SSH Private Key Permissions using Git GUI or ssh-keygen are too open

Did you copy the key file from another machine?

I just created an id_rsa file on the client machine then pasted the key in I wanted. No permissions issues. Nothing to set. It just worked. It also works if you use PuTTYgen to create the private key.

Possibly some hidden group issue if you're copying it from another machine.

Tested on two Windows 8.1 machines. Using Sublime Text 3 to copy and paste the private key. Using Git Bash (Git-1.9.4-preview20140611).

Android ListView in fragment example

Your Fragment can subclass ListFragment.
And onCreateView() from ListFragment will return a ListView you can then populate.

How to subtract X days from a date using Java calendar?

window.onload vs $(document).ready()

Events

$(document).on('ready', handler) binds to the ready event from jQuery. The handler is called when the DOM is loaded. Assets like images maybe still are missing. It will never be called if the document is ready at the time of binding. jQuery uses the DOMContentLoaded-Event for that, emulating it if not available.

$(document).on('load', handler) is an event that will be fired once all resources are loaded from the server. Images are loaded now. While onload is a raw HTML event, ready is built by jQuery.

Functions

$(document).ready(handler) actually is a promise. The handler will be called immediately if document is ready at the time of calling. Otherwise it binds to the ready-Event.

Before jQuery 1.8, $(document).load(handler) existed as an alias to $(document).on('load',handler).

MySQL ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE for multiple rows insert in single query

Beginning with MySQL 8.0.19 you can use an alias for that row (see reference).

INSERT INTO beautiful (name, age)
    VALUES
    ('Helen', 24),
    ('Katrina', 21),
    ('Samia', 22),
    ('Hui Ling', 25),
    ('Yumie', 29)
    AS new
ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE
    age = new.age
    ...

For earlier versions use the keyword VALUES (see reference, deprecated with MySQL 8.0.20).

INSERT INTO beautiful (name, age)

    ('Helen', 24),
    ('Katrina', 21),
    ('Samia', 22),
    ('Hui Ling', 25),

Get Memory Usage in Android

I use this function to calculate cpu usage. Hope it can help you.

private float readUsage() {
    try {
        RandomAccessFile reader = new RandomAccessFile("/proc/stat", "r");
        String load = reader.readLine();

        String[] toks = load.split(" +"); // Split on one or more spaces

        long idle1 = Long.parseLong(toks[4]);
        long cpu1 = Long.parseLong(toks[2]) + Long.parseLong(toks[3]) + Long.parseLong(toks[5])
              + Long.parseLong(toks[6]) + Long.parseLong(toks[7]) + Long.parseLong(toks[8]);

        try {
            Thread.sleep(360);
        } catch (Exception e) {}

        reader.seek(0);
        load = reader.readLine();
        reader.close();

Read Excel File in Python

The approach I took reads the header information from the first row to determine the indexes of the columns of interest.

You mentioned in the question that you also want the values output to a string. I dynamically build a format string for the output from the FORMAT column list. Rows are appended to the values string separated by a new line char.

The output column order is determined by the order of the column names in the FORMAT list.

In my code below the case of the column name in the FORMAT list is important. In the question above you've got 'Pincode' in your FORMAT list, but 'PinCode' in your excel. This wouldn't work below, it would need to be 'PinCode'.

from xlrd import open_workbook
wb = open_workbook('sample.xls')

FORMAT = ['Arm_id', 'DSPName', 'PinCode']
values = ""

for s in wb.sheets():
    headerRow = s.row(0)
    columnIndex = [x for y in FORMAT for x in range(len(headerRow)) if y == firstRow[x].value]
    formatString = ("%s,"*len(columnIndex))[0:-1] + "\n"

    for row in range(1,s.nrows):
        currentRow = s.row(row)
        currentRowValues = [currentRow[x].value for x in columnIndex]
        values += formatString % tuple(currentRowValues)

print values

For the sample input you gave above this code outputs:

>>> 1.0,JaVAS,282001.0
2.0,JaVAS,282002.0
3.0,JaVAS,282003.0

And because I'm a python noob, props be to: this answer, this answer, this question, this question and this answer.

How can I recognize touch events using jQuery in Safari for iPad? Is it possible?

You can use .on() to capture multiple events and then test for touch on the screen, e.g.:

$('#selector')
.on('touchstart mousedown', function(e){
  e.preventDefault();
  var touch = e.touches[0];
  if(touch){
    // Do some stuff
  }
  else {
    // Do some other stuff
  }
});

Algorithm to generate all possible permutations of a list?

In C, create a single matrix (unsigned char) to quickly and easily access all permutations from 1 to 6. Based on code from https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/heaps-algorithm-for-generating-permutations/.

void swap(unsigned char* a, unsigned char* b)
{
    unsigned char t;

    t = *b;
    *b = *a;
    *a = t;
}

void print_permutations(unsigned char a[], unsigned char n)
{
    // can't rely on sizeof(a[6]) == 6, such as with MSVC 2019
    for (int i = 0; i < n; i++)
    {
        assert(a[i] < n);
        printf("%d ", a[i]);
    }
    printf("\n");
}

// Generating permutation using Heap Algorithm
void generate_permutations(unsigned char (**permutations)[6], unsigned char a[], int size, int n)
{
    // can't rely on sizeof(a[6]) == 6, such as with MSVC 2019
    // if size becomes 1 then prints the obtained permutation
    if (size == 1)
    {
        memcpy(*permutations, a, n);
        *permutations += 1;
    }
    else
    {
        for (int i = 0; i < size; i++)
        {
            generate_permutations(permutations, a, size - 1, n);

            // if size is odd, swap first and last element
            if (size & 1)
                swap(a, a + size - 1);

            // If size is even, swap ith and last element
            else
                swap(a + i, a + size - 1);
        }
    }
}

int main()
{
    unsigned char permutations[720][6]; // easily access all permutations from 1 to 6
    unsigned char suit_length_indexes[] = { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 };
    assert(sizeof(suit_length_indexes) == sizeof(permutations[0]));
    unsigned char(*p)[sizeof(suit_length_indexes)] = permutations;
    generate_permutations(&p, suit_length_indexes, sizeof(suit_length_indexes), sizeof(suit_length_indexes));
    for (int i = 0; i < sizeof(permutations) / sizeof(permutations[0]); i++)
        print_permutations(permutations[i], sizeof(suit_length_indexes));
    return 0;
}

Move seaborn plot legend to a different position?

it seems you can directly call:

g = sns.factorplot("class", "survived", "sex",

                size=6, palette="muted",
               legend_out=False)

Casting string to enum

As an extra, you can take the Enum.Parse answers already provided and put them in an easy-to-use static method in a helper class.

public static T ParseEnum<T>(string value)
{
    return (T)Enum.Parse(typeof(T), value, ignoreCase: true);
}

And use it like so:

{
   Content = ParseEnum<ContentEnum>(fileContentMessage);
};

Especially helpful if you have lots of (different) Enums to parse.

How to send an HTTPS GET Request in C#

Add ?var1=data1&var2=data2 to the end of url to submit values to the page via GET:

using System.Net;
using System.IO;

string url = "https://www.example.com/scriptname.php?var1=hello";

HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();
Stream resStream = response.GetResponseStream();

Prepend line to beginning of a file

Different Idea:

(1) You save the original file as a variable.

(2) You overwrite the original file with new information.

(3) You append the original file in the data below the new information.

Code:

with open(<filename>,'r') as contents:
      save = contents.read()
with open(<filename>,'w') as contents:
      contents.write(< New Information >)
with open(<filename>,'a') as contents:
      contents.write(save)

Java - How do I make a String array with values?

You could do something like this

String[] myStrings = { "One", "Two", "Three" };

or in expression

functionCall(new String[] { "One", "Two", "Three" });

or

String myStrings[];
myStrings = new String[] { "One", "Two", "Three" };

Spring Boot REST service exception handling

By default Spring Boot gives json with error details.

curl -v localhost:8080/greet | json_pp
[...]
< HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
[...]
{
   "timestamp" : 1413313361387,
   "exception" : "org.springframework.web.bind.MissingServletRequestParameterException",
   "status" : 400,
   "error" : "Bad Request",
   "path" : "/greet",
   "message" : "Required String parameter 'name' is not present"
}

It also works for all kind of request mapping errors. Check this article http://www.jayway.com/2014/10/19/spring-boot-error-responses/

If you want to create log it to NoSQL. You can create @ControllerAdvice where you would log it and then re-throw the exception. There is example in documentation https://spring.io/blog/2013/11/01/exception-handling-in-spring-mvc

Setting up foreign keys in phpMyAdmin?

This is a summary of a Wikipedia article. It specifies the different types of relationships you can stipulate in PHPmyadmin. I am putting it here because it is relevant to @Nathan's comment on setting the foreign keys options for "on update/delete" but is too large for a comment - hope it helps.

CASCADE

Whenever rows in the master (referenced) table are deleted (resp. updated), the respective rows of the child (referencing) table with a matching foreign key column will get deleted (resp. updated) as well. This is called a cascade delete (resp. update[2]).

RESTRICT

A value cannot be updated or deleted when a row exists in a foreign key table that references the value in the referenced table. Similarly, a row cannot be deleted as long as there is a reference to it from a foreign key table.

NO ACTION

NO ACTION and RESTRICT are very much alike. The main difference between NO ACTION and RESTRICT is that with NO ACTION the referential integrity check is done after trying to alter the table. RESTRICT does the check before trying to execute the UPDATE or DELETE statement. Both referential actions act the same if the referential integrity check fails: the UPDATE or DELETE statement will result in an error.

SET NULL

The foreign key values in the referencing row are set to NULL when the referenced row is updated or deleted. This is only possible if the respective columns in the referencing table are nullable. Due to the semantics of NULL, a referencing row with NULLs in the foreign key columns does not require a referenced row.

SET DEFAULT

Similar to SET NULL, the foreign key values in the referencing row are set to the column default when the referenced row is updated or deleted.

How to get the last char of a string in PHP?

A string in different languages including C sharp and PHP is also considered an array of characters.

Knowing that in theory array operations should be faster than string ones you could do,

$foo = "bar";

$lastChar = strlen($foo) -1;
echo $foo[$lastChar];

$firstChar = 0;
echo $foo[$firstChar];

However, standard array functions like

count();

will not work on a string.

Benefits of inline functions in C++?

In archaic C and C++, inline is like register: a suggestion (nothing more than a suggestion) to the compiler about a possible optimization.

In modern C++, inline tells the linker that, if multiple definitions (not declarations) are found in different translation units, they are all the same, and the linker can freely keep one and discard all the other ones.

inline is mandatory if a function (no matter how complex or "linear") is defined in a header file, to allow multiple sources to include it without getting a "multiple definition" error by the linker.

Member functions defined inside a class are "inline" by default, as are template functions (in contrast to global functions).

//fileA.h
inline void afunc()
{ std::cout << "this is afunc" << std::endl; }

//file1.cpp
#include "fileA.h"
void acall()
{ afunc(); }

//main.cpp
#include "fileA.h"
void acall();

int main()
{
   afunc();
   acall();
}

//output
this is afunc
this is afunc

Note the inclusion of fileA.h into two .cpp files, resulting in two instances of afunc(). The linker will discard one of them. If no inline is specified, the linker will complain.

Correct way to load a Nib for a UIView subclass

MyViewClass *myViewObject = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"MyViewClassNib" owner:self options:nil] objectAtIndex:0]

I'm using this to initialise the reusable custom views I have.

Note that you can use "firstObject" at the end there, it's a little cleaner. "firstObject" is a handy method for NSArray and NSMutableArray.

Here's a typical example, of loading a xib to use as a table header. In your file YourClass.m

- (UIView *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section {
    return [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"TopArea" owner:self options:nil].firstObject;
}

Normally, in the TopArea.xib, you would click on File Owner and set the file owner to YourClass. Then actually in YourClass.h you would have IBOutlet properties. In TopArea.xib, you can drag controls to those outlets.

Don't forget that in TopArea.xib, you may have to click on the View itself and drag that to some outlet, so you have control of it, if necessary. (A very worthwhile tip is that when you are doing this for table cell rows, you absolutely have to do that - you have to connect the view itself to the relevant property in your code.)

How to install OpenJDK 11 on Windows?

You can use Amazon Corretto. It is free to use multiplatform, production-ready distribution of the OpenJDK. It comes with long-term support that will include performance enhancements and security fixes. Check the installation instructions here.

You can also check Zulu from Azul.

One more thing I like to highlight here is both Amazon Corretto and Zulu are TCK Compliant. You can see the OpenJDK builds comparison here and here.

Original purpose of <input type="hidden">?

basically hidden fields will be more useful and advantages to use with multi step form. we can use hidden fields to pass one step information to next step using hidden and keep it forwarding till the end step.

  1. CSRF tokens.

Cross-site request forgery is a very common website vulnerability. Requiring a secret, user-specific token in all form submissions will prevent CSRF attacks since attack sites cannot guess what the proper token is and any form submissions they perform on the behalf of the user will always fail.

  1. Save state in multi-page forms.

If you need to store what step in a multi-page form the user is currently on, use hidden input fields. The user doesn't need to see this information, so hide it in a hidden input field.

General rule: Use the field to store anything that the user doesn't need to see, but that you want to send to the server on form submission.

How do I find the length (or dimensions, size) of a numpy matrix in python?

shape is a property of both numpy ndarray's and matrices.

A.shape

will return a tuple (m, n), where m is the number of rows, and n is the number of columns.

In fact, the numpy matrix object is built on top of the ndarray object, one of numpy's two fundamental objects (along with a universal function object), so it inherits from ndarray

CSS "color" vs. "font-color"

I know this is an old post but as MisterZimbu stated, the color property is defining the values of other properties, as the border-color and, with CSS3, of currentColor.

currentColor is very handy if you want to use the font color for other elements (as the background or custom checkboxes and radios of inner elements for example).

Example:

How to prevent the "Confirm Form Resubmission" dialog?

It has nothing to do with your form or the values in it. It gets fired by the browser to prevent the user from repeating the same request with the cached data. If you really need to enable the refreshing of the result page, you should redirect the user, either via PHP (header('Location:result.php');) or other server-side language you're using. Meta tag solution should work also to disable the resending on refresh.

Updating a date in Oracle SQL table

Just to add to Alex Poole's answer, here is how you do the date and time:

    TO_DATE('31/DEC/2017 12:59:59', 'dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss')

Reference — What does this symbol mean in PHP?

Syntax Name Description

x != y Inequality true if x is not equal to y
x === y Identity true if x and y have the same key/value pairs
in the same order and of the same types
x !== y Non-identity true if x is not identical to y

x++ Post-increment Returns x, then increments x by one
--x Pre-decrement Decrements x by one, then returns x
x-- Post-decrement Returns x, then decrements x by one
x and y And true if both x and y are true. If x=6, y=3 then
(x < 10 and y > 1) returns true
x && y And true if both x and y are true. If x=6, y=3 then
(x < 10 && y > 1) returns true
x or y Or true if any of x or y are true. If x=6, y=3 then
(x < 10 or y > 10) returns true
x || y Or true if any of x or y are true. If x=6, y=3 then
(x < 3 || y > 1) returns true

Multiline string literal in C#

If you don't want spaces/newlines, string addition seems to work:

var myString = String.Format(
  "hello " +
  "world" +
  " i am {0}" +
  " and I like {1}.",
  animalType,
  animalPreferenceType
);
// hello world i am a pony and I like other ponies.

You can run the above here if you like.

Android overlay a view ontop of everything?

You can use bringToFront:

    View view=findViewById(R.id.btnStartGame);
    view.bringToFront();

Convert string with commas to array

If the string is already in list format, you can use the JSON.parse:

var a = "['a', 'b', 'c']";
a = a.replace(/'/g, '"');
a = JSON.parse(a);

Add JavaScript object to JavaScript object

jsonIssues = [...jsonIssues,{ID:'3',Name:'name 3',Notes:'NOTES 3'}]

C++ getters/setters coding style

Avoid public variables, except for classes that are essentially C-style structs. It's just not a good practice to get into.

Once you've defined the class interface, you might never be able to change it (other than adding to it), because people will build on it and rely on it. Making a variable public means that you need to have that variable, and you need to make sure it has what the user needs.

Now, if you use a getter, you're promising to supply some information, which is currently kept in that variable. If the situation changes, and you'd rather not maintain that variable all the time, you can change the access. If the requirements change (and I've seen some pretty odd requirements changes), and you mostly need the name that's in this variable but sometimes the one in that variable, you can just change the getter. If you made the variable public, you'd be stuck with it.

This won't always happen, but I find it a lot easier just to write a quick getter than to analyze the situation to see if I'd regret making the variable public (and risk being wrong later).

Making member variables private is a good habit to get into. Any shop that has code standards is probably going to forbid making the occasional member variable public, and any shop with code reviews is likely to criticize you for it.

Whenever it really doesn't matter for ease of writing, get into the safer habit.

How to update a record using sequelize for node?

If you're here looking for a way to increment a specific field value in a model...

This worked for me as of [email protected]

What does "./" (dot slash) refer to in terms of an HTML file path location?

You are correct that you can omit it. It's useful only for clarity. There is no functional difference between it being there and not being there.

Remove all child nodes from a parent?

You can use .empty(), like this:

$("#foo").empty();

From the docs:

Remove all child nodes of the set of matched elements from the DOM.

trying to align html button at the center of the my page

For me it worked using flexbox.

Add a css class around the parent div / element with :

.parent {
    display: flex;
}

and for the button use:

.button {
    justify-content: center;
}

You should use a parent div, otherwise the button doesn't 'know' what the middle of the page / element is.

Get viewport/window height in ReactJS

I found a simple combo of QoP and speckledcarp's answer using React Hooks and resizing features, with slightly less lines of code:

const [width, setWidth]   = useState(window.innerWidth);
const [height, setHeight] = useState(window.innerHeight);
const updateDimensions = () => {
    setWidth(window.innerWidth);
    setHeight(window.innerHeight);
}
useEffect(() => {
    window.addEventListener("resize", updateDimensions);
    return () => window.removeEventListener("resize", updateDimensions);
}, []);

Oh yeah make sure that the resize event is in double quotes, not single. That one got me for a bit ;)

How can I use a JavaScript variable as a PHP variable?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago like yours; but I invented a brilliant solution for exchanging variables between PHP and JavaScript. It worked for me well:

  1. Create a hidden form on a HTML page

  2. Create a Textbox or Textarea in that hidden form

  3. After all of your code written in the script, store the final value of your variable in that textbox

  4. Use $_REQUEST['textbox name'] line in your PHP to gain access to value of your JavaScript variable.

I hope this trick works for you.

slf4j: how to log formatted message, object array, exception

In addition to @Ceki 's answer, If you are using logback and setup a config file in your project (usually logback.xml), you can define the log to plot the stack trace as well using

<encoder>
    <pattern>%date |%-5level| [%thread] [%file:%line] - %msg%n%ex{full}</pattern>
</encoder>

the %ex in pattern is what makes the difference

Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal

I'm adding this answer because it solved a related problem that I was having with the same error message.

Problem: I had installed cygwin under Windows and was getting this error: Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal

Resolution: It turns out that I had not installed the openssh client program and utilities. Because of that cygwin was using the Windows implementation of ssh, not the cygwin version. The solution was to install the openssh cygwin package.

Selecting between two dates within a DateTime field - SQL Server

SELECT *
FROM tbl
WHERE myDate BETWEEN #date one# AND #date two#;

SQL: Insert all records from one table to another table without specific the columns

You need to have at least the same number of columns and each column has to be defined in exactly the same way, i.e. a varchar column can't be inserted into an int column.

For bulk transfer, check the documentation for the SQL implementation you're using. There are often tools available to bulk transfer data from one table to another. For SqlServer 2005, for example, you could use the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. Right-click on the database you're trying to move data around in and click Export to access it.

Is there a way to remove unused imports and declarations from Angular 2+?

Edit (as suggested in comments and other people), Visual Studio Code has evolved and provides this functionality in-built as the command "Organize imports", with the following default keyboard shortcuts:

option+Shift+O for Mac

Alt + Shift + O for Windows

Original answer:

I hope this visual studio code extension will suffice your need: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=rbbit.typescript-hero

It provides following features:

  • Add imports of your project or libraries to your current file
  • Add an import for the current name under the cursor
  • Add all missing imports of a file with one command
  • Intellisense that suggests symbols and automatically adds the needed imports "Light bulb feature" that fixes code you wrote
  • Sort and organize your imports (sort and remove unused)
  • Code outline view of your open TS / TSX document
  • All the cool stuff for JavaScript as well! (experimental stage though, better description below.)

For Mac: control+option+o

For Win: Ctrl+Alt+o

Axios get in url works but with second parameter as object it doesn't

axios.get accepts a request config as the second parameter (not query string params).

You can use the params config option to set query string params as follows:

axios.get('/api', {
  params: {
    foo: 'bar'
  }
});

Is there a simple way to delete a list element by value?

Maybe your solutions works with ints, but It Doesnt work for me with dictionarys.

In one hand, remove() has not worked for me. But maybe it works with basic Types. I guess the code bellow is also the way to remove items from objects list.

In the other hand, 'del' has not worked properly either. In my case, using python 3.6: when I try to delete an element from a list in a 'for' bucle with 'del' command, python changes the index in the process and bucle stops prematurely before time. It only works if You delete element by element in reversed order. In this way you dont change the pending elements array index when you are going through it

Then, Im used:

c = len(list)-1
for element in (reversed(list)):
    if condition(element):
        del list[c]
    c -= 1
print(list)

where 'list' is like [{'key1':value1'},{'key2':value2}, {'key3':value3}, ...]

Also You can do more pythonic using enumerate:

for i, element in enumerate(reversed(list)):
    if condition(element):
        del list[(i+1)*-1]
print(list)

How to change the background-color of jumbrotron?

Just remove class full from <html> and add it to <body> tag. Then set style background-color:transparent !important; for the Jumbotron div (as Amit Joki said in his answer).

How to create a custom attribute in C#

The short answer is for creating an attribute in c# you only need to inherit it from Attribute class, Just this :)

But here I'm going to explain attributes in detail:

basically attributes are classes that we can use them for applying our logic to assemblies, classes, methods, properties, fields, ...

In .Net, Microsoft has provided some predefined Attributes like Obsolete or Validation Attributes like ( [Required], [StringLength(100)], [Range(0, 999.99)]), also we have kind of attributes like ActionFilters in asp.net that can be very useful for applying our desired logic to our codes (read this article about action filters if you are passionate to learn it)

one another point, you can apply a kind of configuration on your attribute via AttibuteUsage.

  [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class | AttributeTargets.Struct, AllowMultiple = true)]

When you decorate an attribute class with AttributeUsage you can tell to c# compiler where I'm going to use this attribute: I'm going to use this on classes, on assemblies on properties or on ... and my attribute is allowed to use several times on defined targets(classes, assemblies, properties,...) or not?!

After this definition about attributes I'm going to show you an example: Imagine we want to define a new lesson in university and we want to allow just admins and masters in our university to define a new Lesson, Ok?

namespace ConsoleApp1
{
    /// <summary>
    /// All Roles in our scenario
    /// </summary>
    public enum UniversityRoles
    {
        Admin,
        Master,
        Employee,
        Student
    }

    /// <summary>
    /// This attribute will check the Max Length of Properties/fields
    /// </summary>
    [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class | AttributeTargets.Struct, AllowMultiple = true)]
    public class ValidRoleForAccess : Attribute
    {
        public ValidRoleForAccess(UniversityRoles role)
        {
            Role = role;
        }
        public UniversityRoles Role { get; private set; }

    }

    /// <summary>
    /// we suppose that just admins and masters can define new Lesson
    /// </summary>
    [ValidRoleForAccess(UniversityRoles.Admin)]
    [ValidRoleForAccess(UniversityRoles.Master)]
    public class Lesson
    {
        public Lesson(int id, string name, DateTime startTime, User owner)
        {
            var lessType = typeof(Lesson);
            var validRolesForAccesses = lessType.GetCustomAttributes<ValidRoleForAccess>();

            if (validRolesForAccesses.All(x => x.Role.ToString() != owner.GetType().Name))
            {
                throw new Exception("You are not Allowed to define a new lesson");
            }

            Id = id;
            Name = name;
            StartTime = startTime;
            Owner = owner;
        }
        public int Id { get; private set; }
        public string Name { get; private set; }
        public DateTime StartTime { get; private set; }

        /// <summary>
        /// Owner is some one who define the lesson in university website
        /// </summary>
        public User Owner { get; private set; }

    }

    public abstract class User
    {
        public int Id { get; set; }
        public string Name { get; set; }
        public DateTime DateOfBirth { get; set; }
    }

    public class Master : User
    {
        public DateTime HireDate { get; set; }
        public Decimal Salary { get; set; }
        public string Department { get; set; }
    }

    public class Student : User
    {
        public float GPA { get; set; }
    }

    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {

            #region  exampl1

            var master = new Master()
            {
                Name = "Hamid Hasani",
                Id = 1,
                DateOfBirth = new DateTime(1994, 8, 15),
                Department = "Computer Engineering",
                HireDate = new DateTime(2018, 1, 1),
                Salary = 10000
            };
            var math = new Lesson(1, "Math", DateTime.Today, master);

            #endregion

            #region exampl2
            var student = new Student()
            {
                Name = "Hamid Hasani",
                Id = 1,
                DateOfBirth = new DateTime(1994, 8, 15),
                GPA = 16
            };
            var literature = new Lesson(2, "literature", DateTime.Now.AddDays(7), student);
            #endregion

            ReadLine();
        }
    }

}

In the real world of programming maybe we don't use this approach for using attributes and I said this because of its educational point in using attributes

Creating a new directory in C

I want to write a program that (...) creates the directory and a (...) file inside of it

because this is a very common question, here is the code to create multiple levels of directories and than call fopen. I'm using a gnu extension to print the error message with printf.

void rek_mkdir(char *path) {
    char *sep = strrchr(path, '/');
    if(sep != NULL) {
        *sep = 0;
        rek_mkdir(path);
        *sep = '/';
    }
    if(mkdir(path, 0777) && errno != EEXIST)
        printf("error while trying to create '%s'\n%m\n", path);
}

FILE *fopen_mkdir(char *path, char *mode) {
    char *sep = strrchr(path, '/');
    if(sep) {
        char *path0 = strdup(path);
        path0[ sep - path ] = 0;
        rek_mkdir(path0);
        free(path0);
    }
    return fopen(path,mode);
}

Float right and position absolute doesn't work together

Perhaps you should divide your content like such using floats:

<div style="overflow: auto;">
    <div style="float: left; width: 600px;">
        Here is my content!
    </div>
    <div style="float: right; width: 300px;">
        Here is my sidebar!
    </div>
</div>

Notice the overflow: auto;, this is to ensure that you have some height to your container. Floating things takes them out of the DOM, to ensure that your elements below don't overlap your wandering floats, set a container div to have an overflow: auto (or overflow: hidden) to ensure that floats are accounted for when drawing your height. Check out more information on floats and how to use them here.

How do I include a path to libraries in g++

In your MakeFile or CMakeLists.txt you can set CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS as below:

set(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS} -I/path/to/your/folder")

java : non-static variable cannot be referenced from a static context Error

This is an interesting question, i just want to give another angle by adding a little more info.You can understand why an exception is thrown if you see how static methods operate. These methods can manipulate either static data, local data or data that is sent to it as a parameter.why? because static method can be accessed by any object, from anywhere. So, there can be security issues posed or there can be leaks of information if it can use instance variables.Hence the compiler has to throw such a case out of consideration.

How to set the opacity/alpha of a UIImage?

Set the opacity of its view it is showed in.

UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithName:@"SomeName.png"]];
imageView.alpha = 0.5; //Alpha runs from 0.0 to 1.0

Use this in an animation. You can change the alpha in an animation for an duration.

[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0];
//Set alpha
[UIView commitAnimations];

How to center a subview of UIView

Before we'll begin, let's just remind that origin point is the Upper Left corner CGPoint of a view. An important thing to understand about views and parents.

Lets take a look at this simple code, a view controller that adds to it's view a black square:

class ViewController: UIViewController {

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
        // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib.
        createDummyView()
        super.view.backgroundColor = UIColor.cyanColor();
    }

    func createDummyView(){
        var subView = UIView(frame: CGRect(x: 15, y: 50, width: 50 , height: 50));
        super.view.addSubview(subView);
        view.backgroundColor = UIColor.blackColor()
    }

}

This will create this view: the black rectangle origin and center does fit the same coordinates as it's parent

enter image description here

Now let's try to add subView another SubSubView, and giving subSubview same origin as subView, but make subSubView a child view of subView

We'll add this code:

var subSubView = UIView();
subSubView.frame.origin = subView.frame.origin;
subSubView.frame.size = CGSizeMake(20, 20);
subSubView.backgroundColor = UIColor.purpleColor()
subView.addSubview(subSubView)

And this is the result:

enter image description here

Because of this line:

subSubView.frame.origin = subView.frame.origin;

You expect for the purple rectangle's origin to be same as it's parent (the black rectangle) but it goes under it, and why is that? Because when you add a view to another view, the subView frame "world" is now it's parent BOUND RECTANGLE, if you have a view that it's origin on the main screen is at coords (15,15) for all it's sub views, the upper left corner will be (0,0)

This is why you need to always refer to a parent by it's bound rectangle, which is the "world" of it's subViews, lets fix this line to:

subSubView.frame.origin = subView.bounds.origin;

And see the magic, the subSubview is now located exactly in it's parent origin:

enter image description here

So, you like "ok I only wanted to center my view by my parents view, what's the big deal?" well, it isn't big deal, you just need to "translate" the parent Center point which is taken from it's frame to parent's bounds center by doing this:

subSubView.center = subView.convertPoint(subView.center, fromView: subSubView);

You're actually telling him "take parents view center, and convert it into subSubView world".

And you'll get this result:

enter image description here

HTTP Status 405 - Method Not Allowed Error for Rest API

How can I post data as form data instead of a request payload?

As of AngularJS v1.4.0, there is a built-in $httpParamSerializer service that converts any object to a part of a HTTP request according to the rules that are listed on the docs page.

It can be used like this:

$http.post('http://example.com', $httpParamSerializer(formDataObj)).
    success(function(data){/* response status 200-299 */}).
    error(function(data){/* response status 400-999 */});

Remember that for a correct form post, the Content-Type header must be changed. To do this globally for all POST requests, this code (taken from Albireo's half-answer) can be used:

$http.defaults.headers.post["Content-Type"] = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";

To do this only for the current post, the headers property of the request-object needs to be modified:

var req = {
 method: 'POST',
 url: 'http://example.com',
 headers: {
   'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'
 },
 data: $httpParamSerializer(formDataObj)
};

$http(req);

Array String Declaration

Declare the array size will solve your problem

 String[] title = {
            "Abundance",
            "Anxiety",
            "Bruxism",
            "Discipline",
            "Drug Addiction"
        };
    String urlbase = "http://www.somewhere.com/data/";
    String imgSel = "/logo.png";
    String[] mStrings = new String[title.length];

    for(int i=0;i<title.length;i++) {
        mStrings[i] = urlbase + title[i].toLowerCase() + imgSel;

        System.out.println(mStrings[i]);
    }

Entity Framework VS LINQ to SQL VS ADO.NET with stored procedures?

There is a whole new approach that you may want to consider if what you're after is the power and performance of stored procedures, and the rapid development that tools like Entity Framework provide.

I've taken SQL+ for a test drive on a small project, and it is really something special. You basically add what amounts to comments to your SQL routines, and those comments provide instructions to a code generator, which then builds a really nice object oriented class library based on the actual SQL routine. Kind of like entity framework in reverse.

Input parameters become part of an input object, output parameters and result sets become part of an output object, and a service component provides the method calls.

If you want to use stored procedures, but still want rapid development, you might want to have a look at this stuff.

Spring Boot - Handle to Hibernate SessionFactory

Another way similar to the yglodt's

In application.properties:

spring.jpa.properties.hibernate.current_session_context_class=org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.SpringSessionContext

And in your configuration class:

@Bean
public SessionFactory sessionFactory(HibernateEntityManagerFactory hemf) {
    return hemf.getSessionFactory();
}

Then you can autowire the SessionFactory in your services as usual:

@Autowired
private SessionFactory sessionFactory;

sendUserActionEvent() is null

This has to do with having two buttons with the same ID in two different Activities, sometimes Android Studio can't find, You just have to give your button a new ID and re Build the Project

jQuery send string as POST parameters

I see that they did not understand your question.

Answer is: add "traditional" parameter to your ajax call like this:

$.ajax({
  traditional: true,
  type: "POST",
  url: url,
  data: custom,
  success: ok,
  dataType: "json"
});

And it will work with parameters PASSED AS A STRING.

How to move div vertically down using CSS

I don't see any mention of flexbox in here, so I will illustrate:

HTML

 <div class="wrapper">
   <div class="main">top</div>
   <div class="footer">bottom</div>
 </div>

CSS

 .wrapper {
   display: flex;
   flex-direction: column;
   min-height: 100vh;
  }
 .main {
   flex: 1;
 }
 .footer {
  flex: 0;

What is the difference between FragmentPagerAdapter and FragmentStatePagerAdapter?

Like the docs say, think about it this way. If you were to do an application like a book reader, you will not want to load all the fragments into memory at once. You would like to load and destroy Fragments as the user reads. In this case you will use FragmentStatePagerAdapter. If you are just displaying 3 "tabs" that do not contain a lot of heavy data (like Bitmaps), then FragmentPagerAdapter might suit you well. Also, keep in mind that ViewPager by default will load 3 fragments into memory. The first Adapter you mention might destroy View hierarchy and re load it when needed, the second Adapter only saves the state of the Fragment and completely destroys it, if the user then comes back to that page, the state is retrieved.

How to create a GUID / UUID

I adjusted my own UUID/GUID generator with some extras here.

I'm using the following Kybos random number generator to be a bit more cryptographically sound.

Below is my script with the Mash and Kybos methods from baagoe.com excluded.

//UUID/Guid Generator
// use: UUID.create() or UUID.createSequential()
// convenience:  UUID.empty, UUID.tryParse(string)
(function(w){

  // Johannes Baagøe <[email protected]>, 2010
  //function Mash() {...};

  // From http://baagoe.com/en/RandomMusings/javascript/
  //function Kybos() {...};

  var rnd = Kybos();

  //UUID/GUID Implementation from http://frugalcoder.us/post/2012/01/13/javascript-guid-uuid-generator.aspx
  var UUID = {
    "empty": "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"
    ,"parse": function(input) {

Can you autoplay HTML5 videos on the iPad?

iOS 10 update

The ban on autoplay has been lifted as of iOS 10 - but with some restrictions (e.g. A can be autoplayed if there is no audio track).

To see a full list of these restrictions, see the official docs: https://webkit.org/blog/6784/new-video-policies-for-ios/

iOS 9 and before

As of iOS 6.1, it is no longer possible to auto-play videos on the iPad.

My assumption as to why they've disabled the auto-play feature?

Well, as many device owners have data usage/bandwidth limits on their devices, I think Apple felt that the user themselves should decide when they initiate bandwidth usage.

After a bit of research I found the following extract in the Apple documentation in regard to auto-play on iOS devices to confirm my assumption:

"Apple has made the decision to disable the automatic playing of video on iOS devices, through both script and attribute implementations.

In Safari, on iOS (for all devices, including iPad), where the user may be on a cellular network and be charged per data unit, preload and auto-play are disabled. No data is loaded until the user initiates it." - Apple documentation.

Here is a separate warning featured on the Safari HTML5 Reference page about why embedded media cannot be played in Safari on iOS:

Warning: To prevent unsolicited downloads over cellular networks at the user’s expense, embedded media cannot be played automatically in Safari on iOS—the user always initiates playback. A controller is automatically supplied on iPhone or iPod touch once playback in initiated, but for iPad you must either set the controls attribute or provide a controller using JavaScript.

What this means (in terms of code) is that Javascript's play() and load() methods are inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action (e.g. a click event).

Basically, a user-initiated play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not.

For example, this would play the movie:

<input type="button" value="Play" onclick="document.myMovie.play()">

Whereas the following would do nothing on iOS:

<body onload="document.myMovie.play()">

Laravel - Pass more than one variable to view

This Answer seems to be

bit helpful while declaring the large numbe of variable in the function

Laravel 5.7.*

For Example

public function index()
{
    $activePost = Post::where('status','=','active')->get()->count();

    $inActivePost = Post::where('status','=','inactive')->get()->count();

    $yesterdayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(-1))->get()->count();

    $todayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(0))->get()->count();

    return view('dashboard.index')->with('activePost',$activePost)->with('inActivePost',$inActivePost )->with('yesterdayPostActive',$yesterdayPostActive )->with('todayPostActive',$todayPostActive );
}

When you see the last line of the returns it not looking good

When You Project is Getting Larger its not good

So

public function index()
    {
        $activePost = Post::where('status','=','active')->get()->count();

        $inActivePost = Post::where('status','=','inactive')->get()->count();

        $yesterdayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(-1))->get()->count();

        $todayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(0))->get()->count();

        $viewShareVars = ['activePost','inActivePost','yesterdayPostActive','todayPostActive'];

        return view('dashboard.index',compact($viewShareVars));
    }

As You see all the variables as declared as array of $viewShareVars and Accessed in View

But My Function Becomes very Larger so i have decided to make the line as very simple

public function index()
    {
        $activePost = Post::where('status','=','active')->get()->count();

        $inActivePost = Post::where('status','=','inactive')->get()->count();

        $yesterdayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(-1))->get()->count();

        $todayPostActive = Post::whereDate('created_at', Carbon::now()->addDay(0))->get()->count();

        $viewShareVars = array_keys(get_defined_vars());

        return view('dashboard.index',compact($viewShareVars));
    }

the native php function get_defined_vars() get all the defined variables from the function

and array_keys will grab the variable names

so in your view you can access all the declared variable inside the function

as {{$todayPostActive}}

Difference between @click and v-on:click Vuejs

There is no difference between the two, one is just a shorthand for the second.

The v- prefix serves as a visual cue for identifying Vue-specific attributes in your templates. This is useful when you are using Vue.js to apply dynamic behavior to some existing markup, but can feel verbose for some frequently used directives. At the same time, the need for the v- prefix becomes less important when you are building an SPA where Vue.js manages every template.

<!-- full syntax -->
<a v-on:click="doSomething"></a>
<!-- shorthand -->
<a @click="doSomething"></a>

Javascript - Get Image height

...but... wouldn't it be better to adjust the image size on the server side rather than transmitting the bytes to the browser and doing it there?

When I say adjust the image size, I don't mean set the height and width in the HTML image tag. If you do that, you are still shipping a large number of bytes from server to client. I mean, actually manipulate the image itself server side.

I have .NET C# code here that takes that approach, but there must be a php way to do it too: http://ifdefined.com/www/gallery.html

Also, by doing it server side, that opens up the possibility of doing the adjustment just once and then saving the adjusted image, which would be very fast.

PHP shell_exec() vs exec()

shell_exec returns all of the output stream as a string. exec returns the last line of the output by default, but can provide all output as an array specifed as the second parameter.

NuGet behind a proxy

On Windows Server 2016 Standard, which is what I develop on, I just had to open the Credential Manager Control Panel and clear out the cached proxy settings for Visual Studio which were no longer valid and then restart Visual Studio. The next time I opened the Nuget Package Manager I was prompted for proxy credentials, which got me working again.

Graphviz's executables are not found (Python 3.4)

I had the same issue with Windows 10.

First, I installed graphviz-2.38.0 with the following command without any problem...

install -c anaconda graphviz=2.38.0

Second, I installed pydotplus with the following command without any problem...

install -c conda-forge pydotplus

After that, when I got to my step to visualize my decision tree had the following issue with {InvocationException: GraphViz's executables not found}...

C:\Users\admin\Anaconda3\lib\site-packages\pydotplus\graphviz.py in create(self, prog, format)

Vertically align text within a div

I know it’s totally stupid and you normally really shouldn’t use tables when not creating tables, but:

Table cells can align multiple lines of text vertically centered and even do this by default. So a solution which works quite fine could be something like this:

HTML:

<div class="box">
  <table class="textalignmiddle">
    <tr>
      <td>lorem ipsum ...</td>
    </tr>
  </table>
</div>

CSS (make the table item always fit to the box div):

.box {
  /* For example */
  height: 300px;
}

.textalignmiddle {
  width: 100%;
  height: 100%;
}

Windows equivalent of linux cksum command

In the year 2019, Microsoft offers the following solution for Windows 10. This solution works for SHA256 checksum.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/microsoft.powershell.utility/get-filehash?view=powershell-6

Press the Windows key. Type PowerShell. Select Windows Powershell. Press Enter key. Paste the command

Get-FileHash C:\Users\Donald\Downloads\File-to-be-checked-by-sha256.exe | Format-List

Replace File-to-be-checked-by-sha256.exe by the name of your file to be checked.

Replace the path to your path where the file is. Press Enter key. Powershell shows then the following

Algorithm : SHA256 Hash : 123456789ABCDEFGH1234567890... Path : C:\Users\Donald\Downloads\File-to-be-checked-by-sha256.exe

Best way to style a TextBox in CSS

You can use:

}

Define your common style attributes inside this. and for extra style you can add a class then.

Jquery to open Bootstrap v3 modal of remote url

If using @worldofjr answer in jQuery you are getting error:

e.relatedTarget.data is not a function

you should use:

$('#myModal').on('show.bs.modal', function (e) {
    var loadurl = $(e.relatedTarget).data('load-url');
    $(this).find('.modal-body').load(loadurl);
});

Not that e.relatedTarget if wrapped by $(..)

I was getting the error in latest Bootstrap 3 and after using this method it's working without any problem.

What Java ORM do you prefer, and why?

Hibernate, because it's basically the defacto standard in Java and was one of the driving forces in the creation of the JPA. It's got excellent support in Spring, and almost every Java framework supports it. Finally, GORM is a really cool wrapper around it doing dynamic finders and so on using Groovy.

It's even been ported to .NET (NHibernate) so you can use it there too.

Return the characters after Nth character in a string

Another formula option is to use REPLACE function to replace the first n characters with nothing, e.g. if n = 4

Swift Beta performance: sorting arrays

I decided to take a look at this for fun, and here are the timings that I get:

Swift 4.0.2           :   0.83s (0.74s with `-Ounchecked`)
C++ (Apple LLVM 8.0.0):   0.74s

Swift

// Swift 4.0 code
import Foundation

func doTest() -> Void {
    let arraySize = 10000000
    var randomNumbers = [UInt32]()

    for _ in 0..<arraySize {
        randomNumbers.append(arc4random_uniform(UInt32(arraySize)))
    }

    let start = Date()
    randomNumbers.sort()
    let end = Date()

    print(randomNumbers[0])
    print("Elapsed time: \(end.timeIntervalSince(start))")
}

How to update the value stored in Dictionary in C#?

Command copy exited with code 4 when building - Visual Studio restart solves it

In my case my $(OutDir) was simply ..\..\Build\ i.e. some relative path. And, when I was trying to xcopy as follows xcopy /y "$(OutDir)Proj1.dll" "Anypath\anyfolder\" I was getting the exit code error 4.

What's happening was, this command was getting executed in the $(OutDir) (in my case build folder) itself and not the directory where the csproj file of the project was located (as we would normally expect). Hence, I kept getting File not found error (corresponding to exit code 4).

I couldn't figure this out until I wrote cd in the Post Build events, to print which directory this was getting executed in.

So, to summarize, if we're wishing to copy / xcopy files from the $(OutDir), either use "$(TargetDir)" (which is complete path for output directory) or need not specify any path at all.

Package signatures do not match the previously installed version

Today, I faced the same problem on my Samsung device. In my particular case, the app was NOT showing on the phone but it was INSTALLED, so I could not uninstall/remove it. Thus I had to uninstall the app using the terminal: $ adb uninstall "com.domain.yourapp" My project tree looks like this (partial view):

+-- com
    +-- gluonapplication
        +-- DrawerManager.java
        +-- StartApplication.java
        +-- views
            +-- PrimaryPresenter.java
            +-- PrimaryView.java
            +-- SecondaryPresenter.java
            +-- SecondaryView.java

So for me, the command was: $ adb uninstall com.gluonapplication Once done, I installed the app via terminal:

$ cd /path/to/apk/
$ adb install -t myAwesomeApp.apk  # -t means test install

That is what worked for me. I hope this answer is helpfull.

You need to escape the backslash \:

println yourString.replace("\\", "/")

How do I ignore an error on 'git pull' about my local changes would be overwritten by merge?

If you want to keep production changes on the server, just merge into a new configuration item. The processing method is as follows:

git stash
git pull
git stash pop

Maybe you don't execute all operations. You can know what you can do next.

Is optimisation level -O3 dangerous in g++?

In my somewhat checkered experience, applying -O3 to an entire program almost always makes it slower (relative to -O2), because it turns on aggressive loop unrolling and inlining that make the program no longer fit in the instruction cache. For larger programs, this can also be true for -O2 relative to -Os!

The intended use pattern for -O3 is, after profiling your program, you manually apply it to a small handful of files containing critical inner loops that actually benefit from these aggressive space-for-speed tradeoffs. Newer versions of GCC have a profile-guided optimization mode that can (IIUC) selectively apply the -O3 optimizations to hot functions -- effectively automating this process.

What are the differences between a multidimensional array and an array of arrays in C#?

Simply put multidimensional arrays are similar to a table in DBMS.
Array of Array (jagged array) lets you have each element hold another array of the same type of variable length.

So, if you are sure that the structure of data looks like a table (fixed rows/columns), you can use a multi-dimensional array. Jagged array are fixed elements & each element can hold an array of variable length

E.g. Psuedocode:

int[,] data = new int[2,2];
data[0,0] = 1;
data[0,1] = 2;
data[1,0] = 3;
data[1,1] = 4;

Think of the above as a 2x2 table:

1 | 2
3 | 4
int[][] jagged = new int[3][];
jagged[0] = new int[4] {  1,  2,  3,  4 };
jagged[1] = new int[2] { 11, 12 };
jagged[2] = new int[3] { 21, 22, 23 };

Think of the above as each row having variable number of columns:

 1 |  2 |  3 | 4
11 | 12
21 | 22 | 23

Decrementing for loops

for i in range(10,0,-1):
    print i,

The range() function will include the first value and exclude the second.

Window vs Page vs UserControl for WPF navigation?

Most of all has posted correct answer. I would like to add few links, so that you can refer to them and have clear and better ideas about the same:

Find unused code

As pointed Jeff the tool NDepend can help to find unused methods, fields and types.

To elaborate a bit, NDepend proposes to write Code Rule over LINQ Query (CQLinq). Around 200 default code rules are proposed, 3 of them being dedicated to unused/dead code detection

Basically such a rule to detect unused method for example looks like:

// <Name>Dead Methods</Name>
warnif count > 0
from m in Application.Methods where !m.MethodsCallingMe.Any()
select m

NDepend rule to find unused methods (dead methods)

But this rule is naive and will return trivial false positives. There are many situations where a method is never called yet it is not unused (entry point, class constructor, finaliser...) this is why the 3 default rules are more elaborated:

NDepend integrates in Visual Studio 2017,2015, 2013, 2012, 2010, thus these rules can be checked/browsed/edited right inside the IDE. The tool can also be integrated into your CI process and it can build reports that will show rules violated and culprit code elements. NDepend has also a VS Team Services extension.

If you click these 3 links above toward the source code of these rules, you'll see that the ones concerning types and methods are a bit complex. This is because they detect not only unused types and methods, but also types and methods used only by unused dead types and methods (recursive).

This is static analysis, hence the prefix Potentially in the rule names. If a code element is used only through reflection, these rules might consider it as unused which is not the case.

In addition to using these 3 rules, I'd advise measuring code coverage by tests and striving for having full coverage. Often, you'll see that code that cannot be covered by tests, is actually unused/dead code that can be safely discarded. This is especially useful in complex algorithms where it is not clear if a branch of code is reachable or not.

Disclaimer: I work for NDepend.

delete_all vs destroy_all?

delete_all is a single SQL DELETE statement and nothing more. destroy_all calls destroy() on all matching results of :conditions (if you have one) which could be at least NUM_OF_RESULTS SQL statements.

If you have to do something drastic such as destroy_all() on large dataset, I would probably not do it from the app and handle it manually with care. If the dataset is small enough, you wouldn't hurt as much.

Can't connect to Postgresql on port 5432

You have to edit postgresql.conf file and change line with 'listen_addresses'.

This file you can find in the /etc/postgresql/9.3/main directory.

Default Ubuntu config have allowed only localhost (or 127.0.0.1) interface, which is sufficient for using, when every PostgreSQL client work on the same computer, as PostgreSQL server. If you want connect PostgreSQL server from other computers, you have change this config line in this way:

listen_addresses = '*'

Then you have edit pg_hba.conf file, too. In this file you have set, from which computers you can connect to this server and what method of authentication you can use. Usually you will need similar line:

host    all         all         192.168.1.0/24        md5

Please, read comments in this file...

EDIT:

After the editing postgresql.conf and pg_hba.conf you have to restart postgresql server.

EDIT2: Highlited configuration files.

How to properly set Column Width upon creating Excel file? (Column properties)

I did it this way:

var xlApp = new Excel.Application();
var xlWorkBook = xlApp.Workbooks.Add(System.Reflection.Missing.Value);
var xlWorkSheet = (Excel.Worksheet)xlWorkBook.Worksheets.Item[1];
xlWorkSheet.Columns.AutoFit();

With this way, columns always fit to text width inside cells.

Hope it helps to someone!

What does "@" mean in Windows batch scripts

It means not to output the respective command. Compare the following two batch files:

@echo foo

and

echo foo

The former has only foo as output while the latter prints

H:\Stuff>echo foo
foo

(here, at least). As can be seen the command that is run is visible, too.

echo off will turn this off for the complete batch file. However, the echo off call itself would still be visible. Which is why you see @echo off in the beginning of batch files. Turn off command echoing and don't echo the command turning it off.

Removing that line (or commenting it out) is often a helpful debugging tool in more complex batch files as you can see what is run prior to an error message.

C++11 reverse range-based for-loop

template <typename C>

    C & c_;
    reverse_wrapper(C & c) :  c_(c) {}

    typename C::reverse_iterator begin() {return c_.rbegin();}
    typename C::reverse_iterator end() {return c_.rend(); }
};

template <typename C, size_t N>
struct reverse_wrapper< C[N] >{

    C (&c_)[N];
    reverse_wrapper( C(&c)[N] ) : c_(c) {}

    typename std::reverse_iterator<const C *> begin() { return std::rbegin(c_); }

Provide an image for WhatsApp link sharing

If you want to have a picture next to an url from your website someone shared on WhatsApp, you have to put a metatag on the page where the URL links to, like this:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://unrestrictedstock.com/wp-content/uploads/Unrestricted-Stock-Small.png"/>

HTML input field hint

the best way to give a hint is placeholder like this:

<input.... placeholder="hint".../>

update listview dynamically with adapter

Most people recommend using notifyDataSetChanged(), but I found this link pretty useful. In fact using clear and add you can accomplish the same goal using less memory footprint, and more responsibe app.

For example:

notesListAdapter.clear();
notes = new ArrayList<Note>();
notesListAdapter.add(todayNote);
if (birthdayNote != null) notesListAdapter.add(birthdayNote);

/* no need to refresh, let the adaptor do its job */

Convert string to buffer Node

Note: Just reposting John Zwinck's comment as answer.

One issue might be that you are using a older version of Node (for the moment, I cannot upgrade, codebase struck with v4.3.1). Simple solution here is, using the deprecated way:

new Buffer(bufferStr)

Note #2: This is for people struck in older version, for whom Buffer.from does not work

Converting string format to datetime in mm/dd/yyyy

How do I get length of list of lists in Java?

Java 8

import java.util.Arrays;
import java.util.List;
import java.util.ArrayList;

public class HelloWorld{

     public static void main(String []args){
            List<List<String>> stringListList = new ArrayList<>();
            stringListList.add(Arrays.asList(new String[] {"(0,0)", "(0,1)"} ));
            stringListList.add(Arrays.asList(new String[] {"(1,0)", "(1,1)", "(1,2)"} ));
            stringListList.add(Arrays.asList(new String[] {"(2,0)", "(2,1)"} ));

            int count=stringListList.stream().mapToInt(i -> i.size()).sum();

            System.out.println("stringListList count: "+count);
     }
}

How to encrypt and decrypt String with my passphrase in Java (Pc not mobile platform)?

I just want to add that if you want to somehow store the encrypted byte array as String and then retrieve it and decrypt it (often for obfuscation of database values) you can use this approach:

import java.security.Key;
import javax.crypto.Cipher;
import javax.crypto.spec.SecretKeySpec;
public class StrongAES
{
    public void run()
    {
        try
        {
            String text = "Hello World";
            String key = "Bar12345Bar12345"; // 128 bit key
            // Create key and cipher
            Key aesKey = new SecretKeySpec(key.getBytes(), "AES");
            Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("AES");
            // encrypt the text
            cipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, aesKey);
            byte[] encrypted = cipher.doFinal(text.getBytes());

            StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
            for (byte b: encrypted) {
                sb.append((char)b);
            }

            // the encrypted String
            String enc = sb.toString();
            System.out.println("encrypted:" + enc);

            // now convert the string to byte array
            // for decryption
            byte[] bb = new byte[enc.length()];
            for (int i=0; i<enc.length(); i++) {
                bb[i] = (byte) enc.charAt(i);
            }

            // decrypt the text
            cipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, aesKey);
            String decrypted = new String(cipher.doFinal(bb));
            System.err.println("decrypted:" + decrypted);

        }
        catch(Exception e)
        {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        StrongAES app = new StrongAES();
        app.run();
    }
}

How to save a list to a file and read it as a list type?

I am using pandas.

import pandas as pd
x = pd.Series([1,2,3,4,5])
x.to_excel('temp.xlsx')
y = list(pd.read_excel('temp.xlsx')[0])
print(y)

Use this if you are anyway importing pandas for other computations.

PHP AES encrypt / decrypt

Please use an existing secure PHP encryption library

It's generally a bad idea to write your own cryptography unless you have experience breaking other peoples' cryptography implementations.

None of the examples here authenticate the ciphertext, which leaves them vulnerable to bit-rewriting attacks.

If you can install PECL extensions, libsodium is even better

<?php
// PECL libsodium 0.2.1 and newer

/**
 * Encrypt a message
 *
 * @param string $message - message to encrypt
 * @param string $key - encryption key
 * @return string
 */
function safeEncrypt($message, $key)
{
    $nonce = \Sodium\randombytes_buf(
        \Sodium\CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES
    );

    return base64_encode(
        $nonce.
        \Sodium\crypto_secretbox(
            $message,
            $nonce,
            $key
        )
    );
}

/**
 * Decrypt a message
 *
 * @param string $encrypted - message encrypted with safeEncrypt()
 * @param string $key - encryption key
 * @return string
 */
function safeDecrypt($encrypted, $key)
{
    $decoded = base64_decode($encrypted);
    $nonce = mb_substr($decoded, 0, \Sodium\CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES, '8bit');
    $ciphertext = mb_substr($decoded, \Sodium\CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES, null, '8bit');

    return \Sodium\crypto_secretbox_open(
        $ciphertext,
        $nonce,
        $key
    );
}

Then to test it out:

<?php
// This refers to the previous code block.
require "safeCrypto.php";

// Do this once then store it somehow:
$key = \Sodium\randombytes_buf(\Sodium\CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_KEYBYTES);
$message = 'We are all living in a yellow submarine';

$ciphertext = safeEncrypt($message, $key);
$plaintext = safeDecrypt($ciphertext, $key);

var_dump($ciphertext);
var_dump($plaintext);

This can be used in any situation where you are passing data to the client (e.g. encrypted cookies for sessions without server-side storage, encrypted URL parameters, etc.) with a reasonably high degree of certainty that the end user cannot decipher or reliably tamper with it.

Since libsodium is cross-platform, this also makes it easier to communicate with PHP from, e.g. Java applets or native mobile apps.

Note: If you specifically need to add encrypted cookies powered by libsodium to your app, my employer Paragon Initiative Enterprises is developing a library called Halite that does all of this for you.

Pandas: Looking up the list of sheets in an excel file

Building on @dhwanil_shah 's answer, you do not need to extract the whole file. With zf.open it is possible to read from a zipped file directly.

import xml.etree.ElementTree as ET
import zipfile

def xlsxSheets(f):
    zf = zipfile.ZipFile(f)

    f = zf.open(r'xl/workbook.xml')

    l = f.readline()
    l = f.readline()
    root = ET.fromstring(l)
    sheets=[]
    for c in root.findall('{http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main}sheets/*'):
        sheets.append(c.attrib['name'])
    return sheets

The two consecutive readlines are ugly, but the content is only in the second line of the text. No need to parse the whole file.

This solution seems to be much faster than the read_excel version, and most likely also faster than the full extract version.

Java Generics With a Class & an Interface - Together

You can't do it with "anonymous" type parameters (ie, wildcards that use ?), but you can do it with "named" type parameters. Simply declare the type parameter at method or class level.

import java.util.List;
interface A{}
interface B{}
public class Test<E extends B & A, T extends List<E>> {
    T t;
}

How do you cast a List of supertypes to a List of subtypes?

class MyClass {
  String field;

  MyClass(String field) {
    this.field = field;
  }
}

@Test
public void testTypeCast() {
  List<Object> objectList = Arrays.asList(new MyClass("1"), new MyClass("2"));

  Class<MyClass> clazz = MyClass.class;
  List<MyClass> myClassList = objectList.stream()
      .map(clazz::cast)
      .collect(Collectors.toList());

  assertEquals(objectList.size(), myClassList.size());
  assertEquals(objectList, myClassList);
}

This test shows how to cast List<Object> to List<MyClass>. But you need to take an attention to that objectList must contain instances of the same type as MyClass. And this example can be considered when List<T> is used. For this purpose get field Class<T> clazz in constructor and use it instead of MyClass.class.

If '<selector>' is an Angular component, then verify that it is part of this module

Hope you are having app.module.ts. In your app.module.ts add below line-

 exports: [myComponentComponent],

Like this:

import { NgModule, Renderer } from '@angular/core';
import { HeaderComponent } from './headerComponent/header.component';
import { HeaderMainComponent } from './component';
import { RouterModule } from '@angular/router';

@NgModule({
    declarations: [
        HeaderMainComponent,
        HeaderComponent
    ],
    imports: [
        RouterModule,
    ],
    providers: [],
    bootstrap: [HeaderMainComponent],
    exports: [HeaderComponent],
})
export class HeaderModule { }

How to add data validation to a cell using VBA

Use this one:

Dim ws As Worksheet
Dim range1 As Range, rng As Range
'change Sheet1 to suit
Set ws = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1")

Set range1 = ws.Range("A1:A5")
Set rng = ws.Range("B1")

With rng.Validation
    .Delete 'delete previous validation
    .Add Type:=xlValidateList, AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop, _
        Formula1:="='" & ws.Name & "'!" & range1.Address
End With

Note that when you're using Dim range1, rng As range, only rng has type of Range, but range1 is Variant. That's why I'm using Dim range1 As Range, rng As Range.
About meaning of parameters you can read is MSDN, but in short:

  • Type:=xlValidateList means validation type, in that case you should select value from list
  • AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop specifies the icon used in message boxes displayed during validation. If user enters any value out of list, he/she would get error message.
  • in your original code, Operator:= xlBetween is odd. It can be used only if two formulas are provided for validation.
  • Formula1:="='" & ws.Name & "'!" & range1.Address for list data validation provides address of list with values (in format =Sheet!A1:A5)

Convert DataFrame column type from string to datetime, dd/mm/yyyy format

The easiest way is to use to_datetime:

df['col'] = pd.to_datetime(df['col'])

It also offers a dayfirst argument for European times (but beware this isn't strict).

Here it is in action:

In [11]: pd.to_datetime(pd.Series(['05/23/2005']))
Out[11]:
0   2005-05-23 00:00:00
dtype: datetime64[ns]

You can pass a specific format:

In [12]: pd.to_datetime(pd.Series(['05/23/2005']), format="%m/%d/%Y")
Out[12]:
0   2005-05-23
dtype: datetime64[ns]

JPA eager fetch does not join

Two things occur to me.

First, are you sure you mean ManyToOne for address? That means multiple people will have the same address. If it's edited for one of them, it'll be edited for all of them. Is that your intent? 99% of the time addresses are "private" (in the sense that they belong to only one person).

Secondly, do you have any other eager relationships on the Person entity? If I recall correctly, Hibernate can only handle one eager relationship on an entity but that is possibly outdated information.

I say that because your understanding of how this should work is essentially correct from where I'm sitting.

Best way to work with dates in Android SQLite

  1. As presumed in this comment, I'd always use integers to store dates.
  2. For storing, you could use a utility method

    public static Long persistDate(Date date) {
        if (date != null) {
            return date.getTime();
        }
        return null;
    }

    like so:

    ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
    values.put(COLUMN_NAME, persistDate(entity.getDate()));
    long id = db.insertOrThrow(TABLE_NAME, null, values);

  3. Another utility method takes care of the loading

    public static Date loadDate(Cursor cursor, int index) {
        if (cursor.isNull(index)) {
            return null;
        }
        return new Date(cursor.getLong(index));
    }

    can be used like this:

    entity.setDate(loadDate(cursor, INDEX));

  4. Ordering by date is simple SQL ORDER clause (because we have a numeric column). The following will order descending (that is newest date goes first):

    public static final String QUERY = "SELECT table._id, table.dateCol FROM table ORDER BY table.dateCol DESC";

    //...

        Cursor cursor = rawQuery(QUERY, null);
        cursor.moveToFirst();

        while (!cursor.isAfterLast()) {
            // Process results
        }

Always make sure to store the UTC/GMT time, especially when working with java.util.Calendar and java.text.SimpleDateFormat that use the default (i.e. your device's) time zone. java.util.Date.Date() is safe to use as it creates a UTC value.

Read a XML (from a string) and get some fields - Problems reading XML

I used the System.Xml.Linq.XElement for the purpose. Just check code below for reading the value of first child node of the xml(not the root node).

        string textXml = "<xmlroot><firstchild>value of first child</firstchild>........</xmlroot>";
        XElement xmlroot = XElement.Parse(textXml);

Change event on select with knockout binding, how can I know if it is a real change?

Here is a solution that may help with this strange behaviour. I couldn't find a better solution than place a button to manually trigger the change event.

EDIT: Maybe a custom binding like this could help:

ko.bindingHandlers.changeSelectValue = {

   init: function(element,valueAccessor){

        $(element).change(function(){

            var value = $(element).val();

            if($(element).is(":focus")){

                  //Do whatever you want with the new value
            }

        });

    }
  };

And in your select data-bind attribute add:

changeSelectValue: yourSelectValue

WampServer: php-win.exe The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing

As far as I am aware, the MSVCRxxx.dlls are in %SystemRoot%\System32 (usually C:\Windows\System32).

The xxx refers to the version of the MS Visual C Runtime (hence MSVCR...)

However, the complication seems to be that the xxx version is not the same as the two digits of the year "version".

For example, Visual C Runtime 2013 yields MSVCR120.dll and "...Runtime 2012" yields MSVCR110.dll. And then Microsoft packages these as vcredist_x86.exe or vcredist_x64.exe, seemingly irrespective of the xxx version or the Visual Studio version number (2012, 2013 etc) - confused? You have every right to be!

So, firstly, you need to determine whether you need 32 bit, 64 bit or even both (some PHP distributions apparently do need both), then download the relevant vcredist... for the bits AND for the Visual Studio version. As far as I can tell, the only way to tell which vcredist... you have is to start to install it. Recent versions give an intro screen that quotes the Visual Studio version and the xxx version. I have renamed by vcredists to something like vcredist_x64_2012_V11.exe.

[EDIT] Forgot to add earlier that if you are simply looking to "install" the missing DLL (as opposed to resolve some bigger set of issues), then you probably won't do any harm by simply installing the relevant vcredist for your architecture (32 bit, 64 bit) and "missing" version.

SQlite - Android - Foreign key syntax

You have to define your TASK_CAT column first and then set foreign key on it.

private static final String TASK_TABLE_CREATE = "create table "
        + TASK_TABLE + " ("
        + TASK_ID + " integer primary key autoincrement, "
        + TASK_TITLE + " text not null, "
        + TASK_NOTES + " text not null, "
        + TASK_DATE_TIME + " text not null,"
        + TASK_CAT + " integer,"
        + " FOREIGN KEY ("+TASK_CAT+") REFERENCES "+CAT_TABLE+"("+CAT_ID+"));";

jquery $('.class').each() how many items?

If you are using a version of jQuery that is less than version 1.8 you can use the $('.class').size() which takes zero parameters. See documentation for more information on .size() method.

However if you are using (or plan to upgrade) to 1.8 or greater you can use $('.class').length property. See documentation for more information on .length property.

How to detect orientation change?

I like checking the orientation notification because you can add this feature in any class, no needs to be a view or a view controller. Even in your app delegate.

SWIFT 5:

    //ask the system to start notifying when interface change
    UIDevice.current.beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications()
    //add the observer
    NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(
        self,
        selector: #selector(orientationChanged(notification:)),
        name: UIDevice.orientationDidChangeNotification,
        object: nil)

than caching the notification

    @objc func orientationChanged(notification : NSNotification) {
        //your code there
    }

Since accepted answer is without javascript code, so adding that:

Insert an element at a specific index in a list and return the updated list

Most performance efficient approach

You may also insert the element using the slice indexing in the list. For example:

>>> a = [1, 2, 4]
>>> insert_at = 2 # Index at which you want to insert item

>>> b = a[:]   # Created copy of list "a" as "b".
               # Skip this step if you are ok with modifying the original list

>>> b[insert_at:insert_at] = [3]  # Insert "3" within "b"
>>> b
[1, 2, 3, 4]

For inserting multiple elements together at a given index, all you need to do is to use a list of multiple elements that you want to insert. For example:

>>> a = [1, 2, 4]
>>> insert_at = 2 # Index starting from which multiple elements will be inserted

# List of elements that you want to insert together at "index_at" (above) position
>>> insert_elements = [3, 5, 6]

>>> a[insert_at:insert_at] = insert_elements
>>> a   # [3, 5, 6] are inserted together in `a` starting at index "2"
[1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 4]

To know more about slice indexing, you can refer: Understanding slice notation.

Note: In Python 3.x, difference of performance between slice indexing and list.index(...) is significantly reduced and both are almost equivalent. However, in Python 2.x, this difference is quite noticeable. I have shared performance comparisons later in this answer.

Alternative using list comprehension (but very slow in terms of performance):

As an alternative, it can be achieved using list comprehension with enumerate too. (But please don't do it this way. It is just for illustration):

>>> a = [1, 2, 4]
>>> insert_at = 2

>>> b = [y for i, x in enumerate(a) for y in ((3, x) if i == insert_at else (x, ))]
>>> b
[1, 2, 3, 4]

Performance comparison of all solutions

Here's the timeit comparison of all the answers with list of 1000 elements on Python 3.9.1 and Python 2.7.16. Answers are listed in the order of performance for both the Python versions.

Python 3.9.1

  1. My answer using sliced insertion - Fastest ( 2.25 µsec per loop)

    python3 -m timeit -s "a = list(range(1000))" "b = a[:]; b[500:500] = [3]"
    100000 loops, best of 5: 2.25 µsec per loop

  2. Rushy Panchal's answer with most votes using list.insert(...)- Second (2.33 µsec per loop)

    python3 -m timeit -s "a = list(range(1000))" "b = a[:]; b.insert(500, 3)"

How do I center this form in css?

Another solution (without a wrapper) would be to set the form to display: table, which would make it act like a table so it would have the width of its largest child, and then apply margin: 0 auto to center it.

form {
    display: table;
    margin: 0 auto;
}

Pipe subprocess standard output to a variable

If you are using python 2.7 or later, the easiest way to do this is to use the subprocess.check_output() command. Here is an example:

output = subprocess.check_output('ls')

To also redirect stderr you can use the following:

output = subprocess.check_output('ls', stderr=subprocess.STDOUT)

In the case that you want to pass parameters to the command, you can either use a list or use invoke a shell and use a single string.

output = subprocess.check_output(['ls', '-a'])
output = subprocess.check_output('ls -a', shell=True)

How to create a new file in unix?

The command is lowercase: touch filename.

Keep in mind that touch will only create a new file if it does not exist! Here's some docs for good measure: http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?touch

If you always want an empty file, one way to do so would be to use:

echo "" > filename

How to display the value of the bar on each bar with pyplot.barh()?

I know it's an old thread, but I landed here several times via Google and think no given answer is really satisfying yet. Try using one of the following functions:

EDIT: As I'm getting some likes on this old thread, I wanna share an updated solution as well (basically putting my two previous functions together and automatically deciding whether it's a bar or hbar plot):

def label_bars(ax, bars, text_format, **kwargs):
    """
    Attaches a label on every bar of a regular or horizontal bar chart
    """
    ys = [bar.get_y() for bar in bars]
    y_is_constant = all(y == ys[0] for y in ys) # -> regular bar chart, since all all bars start on the same y level (0)

    if y_is_constant:
        _label_bar(ax, bars, text_format, **kwargs)
    else:
        _label_barh(ax, bars, text_format, **kwargs)

def _label_bar(ax, bars, text_format, **kwargs):
    """
    Attach a text label to each bar displaying its y value
    """
    max_y_value = ax.get_ylim()[1]
    inside_distance = max_y_value * 0.05
    outside_distance = max_y_value * 0.01

    for bar in bars:
        text = text_format.format(bar.get_height())
        text_x = bar.get_x() + bar.get_width() / 2

        is_inside = bar.get_height() >= max_y_value * 0.15
        if is_inside:
            color = "white"
            text_y = bar.get_height() - inside_distance
        else:
            color = "black"
            text_y = bar.get_height() + outside_distance

        ax.text(text_x, text_y, text, ha='center', va='bottom', color=color, **kwargs)

def _label_barh(ax, bars, text_format, **kwargs):
    """
    Attach a text label to each bar displaying its y value
    Note: label always outside. otherwise it's too hard to control as numbers can be very long
    """
    max_x_value = ax.get_xlim()[1]
    distance = max_x_value * 0.0025

    for bar in bars:
        text = text_format.format(bar.get_width())

        text_x = bar.get_width() + distance
        text_y = bar.get_y() + bar.get_height() / 2

        ax.text(text_x, text_y, text, va='center', **kwargs)

Now you can use them for regular bar plots:

fig, ax = plt.subplots((5, 5))
bars = ax.bar(x_pos, values, width=0.5, align="center")
value_format = "{:.1%}" # displaying values as percentage with one fractional digit
label_bars(ax, bars, value_format)

or for horizontal bar plots:

fig, ax = plt.subplots((5, 5))
horizontal_bars = ax.barh(y_pos, values, width=0.5, align="center")
value_format = "{:.1%}" # displaying values as percentage with one fractional digit
label_bars(ax, horizontal_bars, value_format)

How do you turn a Mongoose document into a plain object?

A better way of tackling an issue like this is using doc.toObject() like this

doc.toObject({ getters: true })

other options include:

  • getters: apply all getters (path and virtual getters)
  • virtuals: apply virtual getters (can override getters option)
  • minimize: remove empty objects (defaults to true)
  • transform: a transform function to apply to the resulting document before returning
  • depopulate: depopulate any populated paths, replacing them with their original refs (defaults to false)
  • versionKey: whether to include the version key (defaults to true)

so for example you can say

Model.findOne().exec((err, doc) => {
   if (!err) {
      doc.toObject({ getters: true })
      console.log('doc _id:', doc._id)
   }
})

and now it will work.

For reference, see: http://mongoosejs.com/docs/api.html#document_Document-toObject

Populating Spring @Value during Unit Test

Since Spring 4.1 you could set up property values just in code by using org.springframework.test.context.TestPropertySource annotation on Unit Tests class level. You could use this approach even for injecting properties into dependent bean instances

For example

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(classes = FooTest.Config.class)
@TestPropertySource(properties = {
    "some.bar.value=testValue",
})
public class FooTest {

  @Value("${some.bar.value}")
  String bar;

  @Test
  public void testValueSetup() {
    assertEquals("testValue", bar);
  }

  @Configuration
  static class Config {

    @Bean
    public static PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer propertiesResolver() {
        return new PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer();
    }

  }

}

Note: It's necessary to have instance of org.springframework.context.support.PropertySourcesPlaceholderConfigurer in Spring context

Edit 24-08-2017: If you are using SpringBoot 1.4.0 and later you could initialize tests with @SpringBootTest and @SpringBootConfiguration annotations. More info here

In case of SpringBoot we have following code

@SpringBootTest
@SpringBootConfiguration
@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@TestPropertySource(properties = {
    "some.bar.value=testValue",
})
public class FooTest {

  @Value("${some.bar.value}")
  String bar;

  @Test
  public void testValueSetup() {
    assertEquals("testValue", bar);
  }

}

Easy way to print Perl array? (with a little formatting)

For inspection/debugging check the Data::Printer module. It is meant to do one thing and one thing only:

display Perl variables and objects on screen, properly formatted (to be inspected by a human)

Example usage:

use Data::Printer;
p @array; # no need to pass references

The code above might output something like this (with colors!):

   [
       [0] "a",
       [1] "b",
       [2] undef,
       [3] "c",
   ]

Should I use alias or alias_method?

A point in favor of alias instead of alias_method is that its semantic is recognized by rdoc, leading to neat cross references in the generated documentation, while rdoc completely ignore alias_method.

Animate background image change with jQuery

I had the same problem, after loads of research and Googling, I found the following solution worked best for me! plenty of trial and error went into this one.

--- SOLVED / SOLUTION ---

JS

$(document).ready(function() {
            $("header").delay(5000).queue(function(){
                $(this).css({"background-image":"url(<?php bloginfo('template_url') ?>/img/header-boy-hover.jpg)"});
            });
        });

CSS

header {
    -webkit-transition:all 1s ease-in;
    -moz-transition:all 1s ease-in;
    -o-transition:all 1s ease-in;
    -ms-transition:all 1s ease-in;
    transition:all 1s ease-in;
}

How do I make the method return type generic?

Not possible. How is the Map supposed to know which subclass of Animal it's going to get, given only a String key?

The only way this would be possible is if each Animal accepted only one type of friend (then it could be a parameter of the Animal class), or of the callFriend() method got a type parameter. But it really looks like you're missing the point of inheritance: it's that you can only treat subclasses uniformly when using exclusively the superclass methods.

Move existing, uncommitted work to a new branch in Git

Update 2020 / Git 2.23

Git 2.23 adds the new switch subcommand in an attempt to clear some of the confusion that comes from the overloaded usage of checkout (switching branches, restoring files, detaching HEAD, etc.)

Starting with this version of Git, replace above's command with:

git switch -c <new-branch>

The behavior is identical and remains unchanged.

Before Update 2020 / Git 2.23

Use the following:

git checkout -b <new-branch>

This will leave your current branch as it is, create and checkout a new branch and keep all your changes. You can then stage changes in files to commit with:

git add <files>

and commit to your new branch with:

git commit -m "<Brief description of this commit>"

The changes in the working directory and changes staged in index do not belong to any branch yet. This changes the branch where those modifications would end in.

You don't reset your original branch, it stays as it is. The last commit on <old-branch> will still be the same. Therefore you checkout -b and then commit.

What is output buffering?

ob_start(); // turns on output buffering
$foo->bar(); // all output goes only to buffer
ob_clean(); // delete the contents of the buffer, but remains buffering active
$foo->render(); // output goes to buffer
ob_flush(); // send buffer output
$none = ob_get_contents(); // buffer content is now an empty string
ob_end_clean(); // turn off output buffering

Buffers can be nested, so while one buffer is active, another ob_start() activates a new buffer. So ob_end_flush() and ob_flush() are not really sending the buffer to the output, but to the parent buffer. And only when there is no parent buffer, contents is sent to browser or terminal.

Nicely explained here: https://phpfashion.com/everything-about-output-buffering-in-php

Why doesn't Java support unsigned ints?

The reason IMHO is because they are/were too lazy to implement/correct that mistake. Suggesting that C/C++ programmers does not understand unsigned, structure, union, bit flag... Is just preposterous.

Ether you were talking with a basic/bash/java programmer on the verge of beginning programming a la C, without any real knowledge this language or you are just talking out of your own mind. ;)

when you deal every day on format either from file or hardware you begin to question, what in the hell they were thinking.

A good example here would be trying to use an unsigned byte as a self rotating loop. For those of you who do not understand the last sentence, how on earth you call yourself a programmer.

there I saw 2 exe files studio.exe and studio64.exe. Normally in my start menu was pointing to studio64.exe which alwasys kept on giving me "The enviournmental variable JDK_HOME does not point to valid JVM". So then I clicked studio.exe and it worked :)

I hope this may help someone facing same problem like me

How to get the current time in Python

You can use this function to get the time (unfortunately it doesn't say AM or PM):

def gettime():
    from datetime import datetime
    return ((str(datetime.now())).split(' ')[1]).split('.')[0]

To get the hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds to merge later, you can use these functions:

Hour:

def gethour():
    from datetime import datetime
    return (((str(datetime.now())).split(' ')[1]).split('.')[0]).split(':')[0]

Minute:

def getminute():
    from datetime import datetime
    return (((str(datetime.now())).split(' ')[1]).split('.')[0]).split(':')[1]

Second:

def getsecond():
    from datetime import datetime
    return (((str(datetime.now())).split(' ')[1]).split('.')[0]).split(':')[2]

Millisecond:

def getmillisecond():
    from datetime import datetime
    return (str(datetime.now())).split('.')[1]

Check if object exists in JavaScript

There are a lot of half-truths here, so I thought I make some things clearer.

Actually you can't accurately tell if a variable exists (unless you want to wrap every second line into a try-catch block).

The reason is Javascript has this notorious value of undefined which strikingly doesn't mean that the variable is not defined, or that it doesn't exist undefined !== not defined

var a;
alert(typeof a); // undefined (declared without a value)
alert(typeof b); // undefined (not declared)

So both a variable that exists and another one that doesn't can report you the undefined type.

As for @Kevin's misconception, null == undefined. It is due to type coercion, and it's the main reason why Crockford keeps telling everyone who is unsure of this kind of thing to always use strict equality operator === to test for possibly falsy values. null !== undefined gives you what you might expect. Please also note, that foo != null can be an effective way to check if a variable is neither undefined nor null. Of course you can be explicit, because it may help readability.

If you restrict the question to check if an object exists, typeof o == "object" may be a good idea, except if you don't consider arrays objects, as this will also reported to be the type of object which may leave you a bit confused. Not to mention that typeof null will also give you object which is simply wrong.

The primal area where you really should be careful about typeof, undefined, null, unknown and other misteries are host objects. They can't be trusted. They are free to do almost any dirty thing they want. So be careful with them, check for functionality if you can, because it's the only secure way to use a feature that may not even exist.

How to open a file / browse dialog using javascript?

I know this is an old post, but another simple option is using the INPUT TYPE="FILE" tag according to compatibility most major browser support this feature.

iPhone keyboard, Done button and resignFirstResponder

In Xcode 5.1

Enable Done Button

  • In Attributes Inspector for the UITextField in Storyboard find the field "Return Key" and select "Done"

Hide Keyboard when Done is pressed

  • In Storyboard make your ViewController the delegate for the UITextField
  • Add this method to your ViewController

    -(BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField
    {
        [textField resignFirstResponder];
        return YES;
    }

Hibernate Union alternatives

A view is a better approach but since hql typically returns a List or Set... you can do list_1.addAll(list_2). Totally sucks compared to a union but should work.

Pandas sum by groupby, but exclude certain columns

If you are looking for a more generalized way to apply to many columns, what you can do is to build a list of column names and pass it as the index of the grouped dataframe. In your case, for example:

columns = ['Y'+str(i) for year in range(1967, 2011)]

df.groupby('Country')[columns].agg('sum')
