Using a batch to copy from network drive to C: or D: drive

This might be due to a security check. This thread might help you.

There are two suggestions: one with pushd and one with a registry change. I'd suggest to use the first one...

Sending string via socket (python)

This piece of code is incorrect.

while 1:
    (clientsocket, address) = serversocket.accept()
    print ("connection found!")
    data = clientsocket.recv(1024).decode()
    print (data)
    r='REceieve'
    clientsocket.send(r.encode())

The call on accept() on the serversocket blocks until there's a client connection. When you first connect to the server from the client, it accepts the connection and receives data. However, when it enters the loop again, it is waiting for another connection and thus blocks as there are no other clients that are trying to connect.

That's the reason the recv works correct only the first time. What you should do is find out how you can handle the communication with a client that has been accepted - maybe by creating a new Thread to handle communication with that client and continue accepting new clients in the loop, handling them in the same way.

Tip: If you want to work on creating your own chat application, you should look at a networking engine like Twisted. It will help you understand the whole concept better too.

javascript set cookie with expire time

I use a function to store cookies with a custom expire time in days:

// use it like: writeCookie("mycookie", "1", 30)
// this will set a cookie for 30 days since now
function writeCookie(name,value,days) {
  if (days) {
    var date = new Date();
    date.setTime(date.getTime()+(days*24*60*60*1000));
    var expires = "; expires="+date.toGMTString();
  }
  else var expires = "";
  document.cookie = name+"="+value+expires+"; path=/";
}

SQL Query NOT Between Two Dates

Do you mean that the date range of the selected rows should not lie fully within the specified date range? In which case:

select *
from test_table
where start_date < date '2009-12-15'
or end_date > date '2010-01-02';

(Syntax above is for Oracle, yours may differ slightly).

Faster alternative in Oracle to SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sometable

If you want just a rough estimate, you can extrapolate from a sample:

SELECT COUNT(*) * 100 FROM sometable SAMPLE (1);

For greater speed (but lower accuracy) you can reduce the sample size:

SELECT COUNT(*) * 1000 FROM sometable SAMPLE (0.1);

For even greater speed (but even worse accuracy) you can use block-wise sampling:

SELECT COUNT(*) * 100 FROM sometable SAMPLE BLOCK (1);

GetType used in PowerShell, difference between variables

First of all, you lack parentheses to call GetType. What you see is the MethodInfo describing the GetType method on [DayOfWeek]. To actually call GetType, you should do:

$a.GetType();
$b.GetType();

You should see that $a is a [DayOfWeek], and $b is a custom object generated by the Select-Object cmdlet to capture only the DayOfWeek property of a data object. Hence, it's an object with a DayOfWeek property only:

C:\> $b.DayOfWeek -eq $a
True

T-SQL: Export to new Excel file

Use PowerShell:

$Server = "TestServer"
$Database = "TestDatabase"
$Query = "select * from TestTable"
$FilePath = "C:\OutputFile.csv"

# This will overwrite the file if it already exists.
Invoke-Sqlcmd -Query $Query -Database $Database -ServerInstance $Server | Export-Csv $FilePath

In my usual cases, all I really need is a CSV file that can be read by Excel. However, if you need an actual Excel file, then tack on some code to convert the CSV file to an Excel file. This answer gives a solution for this, but I've not tested it.

You can then write things like \pound_{n = 1}^N and get:

HashSet vs. List performance

The breakeven will depend on the cost of computing the hash. Hash computations can be trivial, or not... :-) There is always the System.Collections.Specialized.HybridDictionary class to help you not have to worry about the breakeven point.

jQuery selector for inputs with square brackets in the name attribute

Per the jQuery documentation, try this:

$('input[inputName\\[\\]=someValue]')

[EDIT] However, I'm not sure that's the right syntax for your selector. You probably want:

$('input[name="inputName[]"][value="someValue"]')

python: How do I know what type of exception occurred?

Your question is: "How can I see exactly what happened in the someFunction() that caused the exception to happen?"

It seems to me that you are not asking about how to handle unforeseen exceptions in production code (as many answers assumed), but how to find out what is causing a particular exception during development.

The easiest way is to use a debugger that can stop where the uncaught exception occurs, preferably not exiting, so that you can inspect the variables. For example, PyDev in the Eclipse open source IDE can do that. To enable that in Eclipse, open the Debug perspective, select Manage Python Exception Breakpoints in the Run menu, and check Suspend on uncaught exceptions.

difference between variables inside and outside of __init__()

classes are like blueprints to create objects. Let's make a metaphor with building a house. You have the blueprint of the house so you can build a house. You can build as many houses as your resources allow.

In this metaphor, the blueprint is the class and the house is the instantiation of the class, creating an object.

The houses have common attributes like having a roof, living room, etc. This is where you init method goes. It constructs the object (house) with the attributes you want.

Lets suppose you have:

`class house:`
`roof = True`
`def __init__(self, color):`
`self.wallcolor = color`

>> create little goldlock's house:

>> goldlock = house() #() invoke's class house, not function

>> goldlock.roof

>> True

all house's have roofs, now let's define goldlock's wall color to white:

>> goldlock.wallcolor = 'white'
>>goldlock.wallcolor
>> 'white'

What's the difference between event.stopPropagation and event.preventDefault?

TL;DR
event.preventDefault()
Prevents the browsers default behaviour (such as opening a link), but does not stop the event from bubbling up the DOM.

event.stopPropagation()
Prevents the event from bubbling up the DOM, but does not stop the browsers default behaviour.

return false;
Usually seen in jQuery code, it Prevents the browsers default behaviour, Prevents the event from bubbling up the DOM, and immediately Returns from any callback.

One should checkout this really nice & easy 4 min read with examples from where the above piece was copied from.

How to download image using requests

There are 2 main ways:

  1. Using .content (simplest/official) (see Zhenyi Zhang's answer):

    import io  # Note: io.BytesIO is StringIO.StringIO on Python2.
    import requests

    r = requests.get('http://lorempixel.com/400/200')
    r.raise_for_status()
    with io.BytesIO(r.content) as f:
        with Image.open(f) as img:
            img.show()

  2. Using .raw (see Martijn Pieters's answer):

    import requests

    r = requests.get('http://lorempixel.com/400/200', stream=True)
    r.raise_for_status()
    r.raw.decode_content = True # Required to decompress gzip/deflate compressed responses.
    with PIL.Image.open(r.raw) as img:
        img.show()
    r.close() # Safety when stream=True ensure the connection is released.

Timing both shows no noticeable difference.

When you created the project, you made the wrong choice of application type. When asked whether your project was a console application or a windows application or a DLL or a static library, you made the wrong chose windows application (wrong choice).

Go back, start over again, go to File -> New -> Project -> Win32 Console Application -> name your app -> click next -> click application settings.

For the application type, make sure Console Application is selected (this step is the vital step).

The main for a windows application is called WinMain, for a DLL is called DllMain, for a .NET application is called Main(cli::array ^), and a static library doesn't have a main. Only in a console app is main called main

Generating Unique Random Numbers in Java

You can use the Collections class.

A utility class called Collections offers different actions that can be performed on a collection like an ArrayList (e.g., search the elements, find the maximum or minimum element, reverse the order of elements, and so on). One of the actions it can perform is to shuffle the elements. The shuffle will randomly move each element to a different position in the list. It does this by using a Random object. This means it's deterministic randomness, but it will do in most situations.

To shuffle the ArrayList, add the Collections import to the top of the program and then use the Shuffle static method. It takes the ArrayList to be shuffled as a parameter:

import java.util.Collections;
import java.util.ArrayList;
public class Lottery {
public static void main(String[] args) {
//define ArrayList to hold Integer objects
ArrayList numbers = new ArrayList();
for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++)
{
numbers.add(i+1);
}
Collections.shuffle(numbers);
System.out.println(numbers);
}
}

Understanding Bootstrap's clearfix class

When a clearfix is used in a parent container, it automatically wraps around all the child elements.

It is usually used after floating elements to clear the float layout.

When float layout is used, it will horizontally align the child elements. Clearfix clears this behaviour.

Example - Bootstrap Panels

In bootstrap, when the class panel is used, there are 3 child types: panel-header, panel-body, panel-footer. All of which have display:block layout but panel-body has a clearfix pre-applied. panel-body is a main container type whereas panel-header & panel-footer isn't intended to be a container, it is just intended to hold some basic text.

If floating elements are added, the parent container does not get wrapped around those elements because the height of floating elements is not inherited by the parent container.

So for panel-header & panel-footer, clearfix is needed to clear the float layout of elements: Clearfix class gives a visual appearance that the height of the parent container has been increased to accommodate all of its child elements.

 <div class="container">
    <div class="panel panel-default">
        <div class="panel-footer">
            <div class="col-xs-6">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button1">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button2">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button3">
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>

    <div class="panel panel-default">
        <div class="panel-footer">
            <div class="col-xs-6">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button1">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button2">
                <input type="button" class="btn btn-primary"   value="Button3">
            </div>

JavaScript: Upload file

Pure JS

You can use fetch optionally with await-try-catch

let photo = document.getElementById("image-file").files[0];
let formData = new FormData();

formData.append("photo", photo);
fetch('/upload/image', {method: "POST", body: formData});

async function SavePhoto(inp)
{
    let user = { name:'john', age:34 };
    let formData = new FormData();
    let photo = inp.files[0];

    formData.append("photo", photo);
    formData.append("user", JSON.stringify(user));

    const ctrl = new AbortController() // timeout
    setTimeout(() => ctrl.abort(), 5000);

    try {
       let r = await fetch('/upload/image',
         {method: "POST", body: formData, signal: ctrl.signal});
       console.log('HTTP response code:',r.status);
    } catch(e) {
       console.log('Huston we have problem...:', e);
    }

let formData = new FormData();

formData.append("photo", photo);

req.send(formData);

    formData.append("user", JSON.stringify(user));
    formData.append("photo", photo);

    xhr.onreadystatechange = state => { console.log(xhr.status); } // err handling
    xhr.timeout = 5000;
    xhr.open("POST", '/upload/image');
    xhr.send(formData);

<small>Because in this example we send request to https://stacksnippets.net/upload/image the response code will be 404 ofcourse...</small>

<br><br>
(the stack overflow snippets, has some problem with error handling - the xhr.status is zero (instead of 404) which is similar to situation when we run script from file on <a href="https://stackoverflow.com/a/10173639/860099">local disc</a> - so I provide also js fiddle version which shows proper http error code <a href="https://jsfiddle.net/Lamik/k6jtq3uh/2/">here</a>)

SUMMARY

  • In server side you can read original file name (and other info) which is automatically included to request by browser in filename formData parameter.
  • You do NOT need to set request header Content-Type to multipart/form-data - this will be set automatically by browser.
  • Instead of /upload/image you can use full address like http://.../upload/image.
  • If you want to send many files in single request use multiple attribute: <input multiple type=... />, and attach all chosen files to formData in similar way (e.g. photo2=...files[2];... formData.append("photo2", photo2);)
  • You can include additional data (json) to request e.g. let user = {name:'john', age:34} in this way: formData.append("user", JSON.stringify(user));
  • You can set timeout: for fetch using AbortController, for old approach by xhr.timeout= milisec
  • This solutions should work on all major browsers.

How to end C++ code

Beyond calling exit(error_code) - which calls atexit handlers, but not RAII destructors, etc. - more and more I am using exceptions.

More and more my main program looks like

int main(int argc, char** argv)
{
    try {
        exit( secondary_main(argc, argv );
    }
    catch(...) {
        // optionally, print something like "unexpected or unknown exception caught by main"
        exit(1);
    }
}

where secondary_main in where all the stuff that was originally is put -- i.e. the original main is renamed secondary_main, and the stub main above is added. This is just a nicety, so that there isn't too much code between the tray and catch in main.

If you want, catch other exception types.
I quite like catching string error types, like std::string or char*, and printing those in the catch handler in main.

Using exceptions like this at least allows RAII destructors to be called, so that they can do cleanup. Which can be pleasant and useful.

Overall, C error handling - exit and signals - and C++ error handling - try/catch/throw exceptions - play together inconsistently at best.

Then, where you detect an error

throw "error message"

or some more specific exception type.

how to remove the bold from a headline?

convert float into varchar in SQL server without scientific notation

There are quite a few answers but none of them was complete enough to accommodate the scenario of converting FLOAT into NVARCHAR, so here we are.

This is what we ended up with:

DECLARE @f1 FLOAT = 4000000
DECLARE @f2 FLOAT = 4000000.43

SELECT TRIM('.' FROM TRIM(' 0' FROM STR(@f1, 30, 2))),
       TRIM('.' FROM TRIM(' 0' FROM STR(@f2, 30, 2)))
SELECT CAST(@f1 AS NVARCHAR),
       CAST(@f2 AS NVARCHAR)

Output:

------------------------------ ------------------------------
4000000                        4000000.43

(1 row affected)

------------------------------ ------------------------------
4e+006                         4e+006

(1 row affected)

In our scenario the FLOAT was a dollar amount to 2 decimal point was sufficient, but you can easily increase it to your needs. In addition, we needed to trim ".00" for round numbers.

Email address validation using ASP.NET MVC data type attributes

I use MVC 3. An example of email address property in one of my classes is:

[Display(Name = "Email address")]
[Required(ErrorMessage = "The email address is required")]
[Email(ErrorMessage = "The email address is not valid")]
public string Email { get; set; }

Remove the Required if the input is optional. No need for regular expressions although I have one which covers all of the options within an email address up to RFC 2822 level (it's very long).

How to redirect the output of an application in background to /dev/null

You use:

yourcommand  > /dev/null 2>&1

If it should run in the Background add an &

yourcommand > /dev/null 2>&1 &

>/dev/null 2>&1 means redirect stdout to /dev/null AND stderr to the place where stdout points at that time

If you want stderr to occur on console and only stdout going to /dev/null you can use:

yourcommand 2>&1 > /dev/null

In this case stderr is redirected to stdout (e.g. your console) and afterwards the original stdout is redirected to /dev/null

If the program should not terminate you can use:

nohup yourcommand &

Without any parameter all output lands in nohup.out

How can I extract a number from a string in JavaScript?

Tried all the combinations cited above with this Code and got it working, was the only one that worked on that string -> (12) 3456-7890

var str="(12) 3456-7890";
str.replace( /\D+/g, '');

Result: "1234567890"

Obs: i know that a string like that will not be on the attr but whatever, the solution is better, because its more complete.

not:first-child selector

You can use your selector with :not like bellow you can use any selector inside the :not()

any_CSS_selector:not(any_other_CSS_selector){
    /*YOUR STYLE*/
}

you can use :not without parent selector as well.

   :not(:nth-child(2)){
        /*YOUR STYLE*/
   }

How to enable php7 module in apache?

I found the solution on the following thread : https://askubuntu.com/questions/760907/upgrade-to-16-04-php7-not-working-in-browser

Im my case not only the php wasn't working but phpmyadmin aswell i did step by step like that

sudo apt install php libapache2-mod-php
sudo apt install php7.0-mbstring
sudo a2dismod mpm_event
sudo a2enmod mpm_prefork
service apache2 restart

And then to:

gksu gedit /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

In the last line I do add Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf

That make a deal with all problems

If it solves your problem, up vote this solution in the original post.

How to join two sets in one line without using "|"

You can just unpack both sets into one like this:

>>> set_1 = {1, 2, 3, 4}
>>> set_2 = {3, 4, 5, 6}
>>> union = {*set_1, *set_2}
>>> union
{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

The * unpacks the set. Unpacking is where an iterable (e.g. a set or list) is represented as every item it yields. This means the above example simplifies to {1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 6} which then simplifies to {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} because the set can only contain unique items.

HTML img scaling

Only set the width or height, and it will scale the other automatically. And yes you can use a percentage.

The first part can be done, but requires JavaScript, so might not work for all users.

Making PHP var_dump() values display one line per value

I've also researched this issue and not found the right answer. This doesn't work for me:

echo '<pre>' . var_dump($variable) . '</pre>';

This will not provide a nice display of the array for me, with line breaks (I'm using Firefox 31.3.0)

However, after some experimentation, this solved the problem (notice the php is closed at first):

... ?> <pre><?php echo var_dump($variable) ?></pre> <?php ...

This solves the problem and displays a nice, easy-to-read array for me on my browser. You see how the tags are not wrapped in PHP; only the echo var_dump part is.

Short answer: No.

The switch statement takes an expression that is only evaluated once. Based on the result, another piece of code is executed.

So what? => String.StartsWith is a function. Together with a given parameter, it is an expression. However, for your case you need to pass a different parameter for each case, so it cannot be evaluated only once.

Long answer #1 has been given by others.

Long answer #2:

Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you might be interested in the Command Pattern/Chain-of-responsibility pattern. Applied to your case, each piece of code would be represented by an implementation of a Command. In addition to the execute method, the command can provide a boolean Accept method, which checks whether the given string starts with the respective parameter.

Advantage: Instead of your hardcoded switch statement, hardcoded StartsWith evaluations and hardcoded strings, you'd have lot more flexibility.

The example you gave in your question would then look like this:

var commandList = new List<Command>() { new MyABCCommand() };

foreach (Command c in commandList)
{
    if (c.Accept(mystring))
    {
        c.Execute(mystring);
        break;
    }
}

class MyABCCommand : Command
{
    override bool Accept(string mystring)
    {
        return mystring.StartsWith("abc");
    }
}

SQL Server: Is it possible to insert into two tables at the same time?

You still need two INSERT statements, but it sounds like you want to get the IDENTITY from the first insert and use it in the second, in which case, you might want to look into OUTPUT or OUTPUT INTO: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms177564.aspx

cannot resolve symbol javafx.application in IntelliJ Idea IDE

As indicated here, JavaFX is no longer included in openjdk.

So check, if you have <Java SDK root>/jre/lib/ext/jfxrt.jar on your classpath under Project Structure -> SDKs -> 1.x -> Classpath? If not, that could be why. Try adding it and see if that fixes your issue, e.g. on Ubuntu, install then openjfx package with sudo apt-get install openjfx.

Can I create links with 'target="_blank"' in Markdown?

Automated for external links only, using GNU sed & make

If one would like to do this systematically for all external links, CSS is no option. However, one could run the following sed command once the (X)HTML has been created from Markdown:

sed -i 's|href="http|target="_blank" href="http|g' index.html

This can be further automated by adding above sed command to a makefile. For details, see GNU make or see how I have done that on my website.

PHP server on local machine?

If you want an all-purpose local development stack for any operating system where you can choose from different PHP, MySQL and Web server versions and are also not afraid of using Docker, you could go for the devilbox.

The devilbox is a modern and highly customisable dockerized PHP stack supporting full LAMP and MEAN and running on all major platforms. The main goal is to easily switch and combine any version required for local development. It supports an unlimited number of projects for which vhosts and DNS records are created automatically. Email catch-all and popular development tools will be at your service as well. Configuration is not necessary, as everything is pre-setup with mass virtual hosting.

Getting it up and running is pretty straight-forward:

# Get the devilbox
$ git clone https://github.com/cytopia/devilbox
$ cd devilbox

# Create docker-compose environment file
$ cp env-example .env

# Edit your configuration
$ vim .env

# Start all containers
$ docker-compose up

Why does Git treat this text file as a binary file?

We had this case where an .html file was seen as binary whenever we tried to make changes in it. Very uncool to not see diffs. To be honest, I didn't checked all the solutions here but what worked for us was the following:

  1. Removed the file (actually moved it to my Desktop) and commited the git deletion. Git says Deleted file with mode 100644 (Regular) Binary file differs
  2. Re-added the file (actually moved it from my Desktop back into the project). Git says New file with mode 100644 (Regular) 1 chunk, 135 insertions, 0 deletions The file is now added as a regular text file

From now on, any changes I made in the file is seen as a regular text diff. You could also squash these commits (1, 2, and 3 being the actual change you make) but I prefer to be able to see in the future what I did. Squashing 1 & 2 will show a binary change.

Map<String, String>, how to print both the "key string" and "value string" together

There are various ways to achieve this. Here are three.

    Map<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
    map.put("key1", "value1");
    map.put("key2", "value2");
    map.put("key3", "value3");

    System.out.println("using entrySet and toString");
    for (Entry<String, String> entry : map.entrySet()) {
        System.out.println(entry);
    }
    System.out.println();

    System.out.println("using entrySet and manual string creation");
    for (Entry<String, String> entry : map.entrySet()) {
        System.out.println(entry.getKey() + "=" + entry.getValue());
    }
    System.out.println();

    System.out.println("using keySet");
    for (String key : map.keySet()) {
        System.out.println(key + "=" + map.get(key));
    }
    System.out.println();

Output

using entrySet and toString
key1=value1
key2=value2
key3=value3

using entrySet and manual string creation
key1=value1
key2=value2
key3=value3

using keySet
key1=value1
key2=value2
key3=value3

What is an idiomatic way of representing enums in Go?

Referring to the answer of jnml, you could prevent new instances of Base type by not exporting the Base type at all (i.e. write it lowercase). If needed, you may make an exportable interface that has a method that returns a base type. This interface could be used in functions from the outside that deal with Bases, i.e.

package a

type base int

const (
    A base = iota
    C
    T
    G
)

type Baser interface {
    Base() base
}

// every base must fulfill the Baser interface
func(b base) Base() base {
    return b
}

func(b base) OtherMethod()  {
}

package main

import "a"

// func from the outside that handles a.base via a.Baser
// since a.base is not exported, only exported bases that are created within package a may be used, like a.A, a.C, a.T. and a.G
func HandleBasers(b a.Baser) {
    base := b.Base()
    base.OtherMethod()
}

// func from the outside that returns a.A or a.C, depending of condition
func AorC(condition bool) a.Baser {
    if condition {
       return a.A
    }
    return a.C
}

Inside the main package a.Baser is effectively like an enum now. Only inside the a package you may define new instances.

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred on server

For those of you who hit this stackoverflow entry because it ranks high for the phrase:

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

In my personal situation with this exact error message, I had turned on python 2.7 thinking I could use some python with my .NET API. I then had that exact error message when I attempted to deploy a vanilla version of the API or MVC from visual studio pro 2013. I was deploying to an azure cloud webapp.

Hope this helps anyone with my same experience. I didn't even think to turn off python until I found this suggestion.

How to send a message to a particular client with socket.io

Here is the full solution for Android Client + Socket IO Server (Lot of code but works). There seems to be lack of support for Android and IOS when it comes to socket io which is a tragedy of sorts.

Basically creating a room name by joining user unique id from mysql or mongo then sorting it (done in Android Client and sent to server). So each pair has a unique but common amongst the pair room name. Then just go about chatting in that room.

For quick refernce how room is created in Android

 // Build The Chat Room
        if (Integer.parseInt(mySqlUserId) < Integer.parseInt(toMySqlUserId)) {
            room = "ic" + mySqlUserId + toMySqlUserId;
        } else {
            room = "ic" + toMySqlUserId + mySqlUserId;
        }

The Full Works

Package Json

"dependencies": {
    "express": "^4.17.1",
    "socket.io": "^2.3.0"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "nodemon": "^2.0.6"
  }

Socket IO Server

app = require('express')()
http = require('http').createServer(app)
io = require('socket.io')(http)

app.get('/', (req, res) => {

    res.send('Chat server is running on port 5000')
})

io.on('connection', (socket) => {

    // console.log('one user connected ' + socket.id);

    // Join Chat Room
    socket.on('join', function(data) {

        console.log('======Joined Room========== ');
        console.log(data);

        // Json Parse String To Access Child Elements
        var messageJson = JSON.parse(data);
        const room = messageJson.room;
        console.log(room);

        socket.join(room);

    });

    // On Receiving Individual Chat Message (ic_message)
    socket.on('ic_message', function(data) {
        console.log('======IC Message========== ');
        console.log(data);

        // Json Parse String To Access Child Elements
        var messageJson = JSON.parse(data);
        const room = messageJson.room;
        const message = messageJson.message;

        console.log(room);
        console.log(message);

        // Sending to all clients in room except sender
        socket.broadcast.to(room).emit('new_msg', {
            msg: message
        });

    });

    socket.on('disconnect', function() {
        console.log('one user disconnected ' + socket.id);
    });

});

http.listen(5000, () => {

    console.log('Node app is running on port 5000')
})

Listview Scroll to the end of the list after updating the list

Supposing you know when the list data has changed, you can manually tell the list to scroll to the bottom by setting the list selection to the last row. Something like:

private void scrollMyListViewToBottom() {
    myListView.post(new Runnable() {
        @Override
        public void run() {
            // Select the last row so it will scroll into view...
            myListView.setSelection(myListAdapter.getCount() - 1);
        }
    });
}

How do you programmatically set an attribute?

setattr(x, attr, 'magic')

For help on it:

>>> help(setattr)
Help on built-in function setattr in module __builtin__:

setattr(...)
    setattr(object, name, value)

    Set a named attribute on an object; setattr(x, 'y', v) is equivalent to
    ``x.y = v''.

Edit: However, you should note (as pointed out in a comment) that you can't do that to a "pure" instance of object. But it is likely you have a simple subclass of object where it will work fine. I would strongly urge the O.P. to never make instances of object like that.

How to get text of an element in Selenium WebDriver, without including child element text?

Unfortunately, Selenium was only built to work with Elements, not Text nodes.

If you try to use a function like get_element_by_xpath to target the text nodes, Selenium will throw an InvalidSelectorException.

One workaround is to grab the relevant HTML with Selenium and then use an HTML parsing library like BeautifulSoup that can handle text nodes more elegantly.

import bs4
from bs4 import BeautifulSoup

inner_html = driver.find_elements_by_css_selector('#a')[0].get_attribute("innerHTML")
inner_soup = BeautifulSoup(inner_html, 'html.parser')

outer_html = driver.find_elements_by_css_selector('#a')[0].get_attribute("outerHTML")
outer_soup = BeautifulSoup(outer_html, 'html.parser')

From there, there are several ways to search for the Text content. You'll have to experiment to see what works best for your use case.

Here's a simple one-liner that may be sufficient:

inner_soup.find(text=True)

If that doesn't work, then you can loop through the element's child nodes with .contents() and check their object type.

BeautifulSoup has four types of elements, and the one that you'll be interested in is the NavigableString type, which is produced by Text nodes. By contrast, Elements will have a type of Tag.

contents = inner_soup.contents

for bs4_object in contents:

    if (type(bs4_object) == bs4.Tag):
        print("This object is an Element.")

    elif (type(bs4_object) == bs4.NavigableString):
        print("This object is a Text node.")

Note that BeautifulSoup doesn't support Xpath expressions. If you need those, then you can use some of the workarounds in this thread.

Java Embedded Databases Comparison

Most things have been said already, but I can just add that I've used HSQL, Derby and Berkely DB in a few of my pet projects and they all worked just fine. So I don't think it really matters much to be honest. One thing worth mentioning is that HSQL saves itself as a text file with SQL statements which is quite good. Makes it really easy for when you are developing to do tests and setup data quickly. Can also do quick edits if needed. Guess you could easily transfer all that to any database if you ever need to change as well :)

How to set background color of a View

You can simple use :

view.setBackgroundColor(Color.rgb(0, 198, 255));

cut or awk command to print first field of first row

You could use the head instead of cat:

head -n1 /etc/*release | awk '{print $1}'

Angular: 'Cannot find a differ supporting object '[object Object]' of type 'object'. NgFor only supports binding to Iterables such as Arrays'

Remember to pipe Observables to async, like *ngFor item of items$ | async, where you are trying to *ngFor item of items$ where items$ is obviously an Observable because you notated it with the $ similar to items$: Observable<IValuePair>, and your assignment may be something like this.items$ = this.someDataService.someMethod<IValuePair>() which returns an Observable of type T.

Adding to this... I believe I have used notation like *ngFor item of (items$ | async)?.someProperty

How to show x and y axes in a MATLAB graph?

Inspired by @Luisa's answer, I made a function, axes0

x = linspace(-2,2,101);
plot(x,2*x.^3-3*x+1);

How to install mcrypt extension in xampp

The recent versions of XAMPP for Windows runs PHP 7.x which are NOT compatible with mbcrypt. If you have a package like Laravel that requires mbcrypt, you will need to install an older version of XAMPP. OR, you can run XAMPP with multiple versions of PHP by downloading a PHP package from Windows.PHP.net, installing it in your XAMPP folder, and configuring php.ini and httpd.conf to use the correct version of PHP for your site.

Allow Google Chrome to use XMLHttpRequest to load a URL from a local file

startup chrome with --disable-web-security

On Windows:

chrome.exe --disable-web-security

On Mac:

open /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/ --args --disable-web-security

This will allow for cross-domain requests.
I'm not aware of if this also works for local files, but let us know !

And mention, this does exactly what you expect, it disables the web security, so be careful with it.

Linux find file names with given string recursively

The find command will take long time because it scans real files in file system.

The quickest way is using locate command, which will give result immediately:

locate "John"

If the command is not found, you need to install mlocate package and run updatedb command first to prepare the search database for the first time.

Get a list of all threads currently running in Java

Get a handle to the root ThreadGroup, like this:

ThreadGroup rootGroup = Thread.currentThread().getThreadGroup();
ThreadGroup parentGroup;
while ((parentGroup = rootGroup.getParent()) != null) {
    rootGroup = parentGroup;
}

Now, call the enumerate() function on the root group repeatedly. The second argument lets you get all threads, recursively:

Thread[] threads = new Thread[rootGroup.activeCount()];
while (rootGroup.enumerate(threads, true ) == threads.length) {
    threads = new Thread[threads.length * 2];
}

Note how we call enumerate() repeatedly until the array is large enough to contain all entries.

How can I validate google reCAPTCHA v2 using javascript/jQuery?

I used HarveyEV's solution but misread it and did it with jQuery validate instead of Bootstrap validator.

  <script src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jquery.validate/1.14.0/jquery.validate.min.js"></script>
  <script>
    $("#contactForm").validate({
      submitHandler: function (form) {
        var response = grecaptcha.getResponse();
        //recaptcha failed validation
        if (response.length == 0) {
          $('#recaptcha-error').show();
          return false;
        }
          //recaptcha passed validation
        else {
          $('#recaptcha-error').hide();
          return true;
        }
      }
    });

How do I center list items inside a UL element?

I had a problem slimier to yours I this quick and its the best solution I have found so far.

What the output looks like

Shows what the output of the code looks like The borders are just to show the spacing and are not needed.

Html:

    <div class="center">
      <ul class="dots">
        <span>
          <li></li>
          <li></li>
          <li></li>
        </span>
      </ul>
    </div>

CSS:

    ul {list-style-type: none;}
    ul li{
        display: inline-block;
        padding: 2px;
        border: 2px solid black;
        border-radius: 5px;}
    .center{
        width: 100%;
        border: 3px solid black;}
    .dots{
        padding: 0px;
        border: 5px solid red;
        text-align: center;}
    span{
        width: 100%;
        border: 5px solid blue;}

Not everything here is needed to center the list items.

You can cut the css down to this to get the same effect:

    ul {list-style-type: none;}
    ul li{display: inline-block;}
    .center{width: 100%;}
    .dots{
        text-align: center;
        padding: 0px;}
    span{width: 100%;}

How to delete a folder with files using Java

Java isn't able to delete folders with data in it. You have to delete all files before deleting the folder.

Use something like:

String[]entries = index.list();
for(String s: entries){
    File currentFile = new File(index.getPath(),s);
    currentFile.delete();
}

Then you should be able to delete the folder by using index.delete() Untested!

Easiest way to copy a table from one database to another?

If your tables are on the same mysql server you can run the following

CREATE TABLE destination_db.my_table SELECT * FROM source_db.my_table;
ALTER TABLE destination_db.my_table ADD PRIMARY KEY (id);
ALTER TABLE destination_db.my_table MODIFY COLUMN id INT AUTO_INCREMENT;

Python xml ElementTree from a string source?

io.StringIO is another option for getting XML into xml.etree.ElementTree:

import io
f = io.StringIO(xmlstring)
tree = ET.parse(f)
root = tree.getroot()

Hovever, it does not affect the XML declaration one would assume to be in tree (although that's needed for ElementTree.write()). See How to write XML declaration using xml.etree.ElementTree.

How do I post button value to PHP?

Change the type to submit and give it a name (and remove the useless onclick and flat out the 90's style uppercased tags/attributes).

<input type="submit" name="foo" value="A" />
<input type="submit" name="foo" value="B" />
...

The value will be available by $_POST['foo'] (if the parent <form> has a method="post").

Angular 2: Can't bind to 'ngModel' since it isn't a known property of 'input'

You need to import @angular/forms dependency to your module.

if you are using npm, install the dependency :

npm install @angular/forms --save

Import it to your module :

import {FormsModule} from '@angular/forms';
@NgModule({
    imports: [.., FormsModule,..],
    declarations: [......],
    bootstrap: [......]
})

And if you are using SystemJs for loading modules

'@angular/forms': 'node_modules/@angular/forms/bundles/forms.umd.js',

Now you can use [(ngModel)] for two ways databinding.

System.Net.WebException HTTP status code

By using the null-conditional operator (?.) you can get the HTTP status code with a single line of code:

 HttpStatusCode? status = (ex.Response as HttpWebResponse)?.StatusCode;

The variable status will contain the HttpStatusCode. When the there is a more general failure like a network error where no HTTP status code is ever sent then status will be null. In that case you can inspect ex.Status to get the WebExceptionStatus.

If you just want a descriptive string to log in case of a failure you can use the null-coalescing operator (??) to get the relevant error:

string status = (ex.Response as HttpWebResponse)?.StatusCode.ToString()
    ?? ex.Status.ToString();

If the exception is thrown as a result of a 404 HTTP status code the string will contain "NotFound". On the other hand, if the server is offline the string will contain "ConnectFailure" and so on.

(And for anybody that wants to know how to get the HTTP substatus code. That is not possible. It is a Microsoft IIS concept that is only logged on the server and never sent to the client.)

Returning first x items from array

array_splice — Remove a portion of the array and replace it with something else:

$input = array(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6);
array_splice($input, 5); // $input is now array(1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

From PHP manual:

array array_splice ( array &$input , int $offset [, int $length = 0 [, mixed $replacement]])

If length is omitted, removes everything from offset to the end of the array. If length is specified and is positive, then that many elements will be removed. If length is specified and is negative then the end of the removed portion will be that many elements from the end of the array. Tip: to remove everything from offset to the end of the array when replacement is also specified, use count($input) for length .

How to replace multiple strings in a file using PowerShell

To get the post by George Howarth working properly with more than one replacement you need to remove the break, assign the output to a variable ($line) and then output the variable:

$lookupTable = @{
    'something1' = 'something1aa'
    'something2' = 'something2bb'
    'something3' = 'something3cc'
    'something4' = 'something4dd'
    'something5' = 'something5dsf'
    'something6' = 'something6dfsfds'
}

$original_file = 'path\filename.abc'
$destination_file =  'path\filename.abc.new'

Get-Content -Path $original_file | ForEach-Object {
    $line = $_

    $lookupTable.GetEnumerator() | ForEach-Object {
        if ($line -match $_.Key)
        {
            $line = $line -replace $_.Key, $_.Value
        }
    }
   $line
} | Set-Content -Path $destination_file

Android button with different background colors

How do I add a submodule to a sub-directory?

I had a similar issue, but had painted myself into a corner with GUI tools.

I had a subproject with a few files in it that I had so far just copied around instead of checking into their own git repo. I created a repo in the subfolder, was able to commit, push, etc just fine. But in the parent repo the subfolder wasn't treated as a submodule, and its files were still being tracked by the parent repo - no good.

To get out of this mess I had to tell Git to stop tracking the subfolder (without deleting the files):

proj> git rm -r --cached ./ui/jslib

Then I had to tell it there was a submodule there (which you can't do if anything there is currently being tracked by git):

proj> git submodule add ./ui/jslib

Update

The ideal way to handle this involves a couple more steps. Ideally, the existing repo is moved out to its own directory, free of any parent git modules, committed and pushed, and then added as a submodule like:

proj> git submodule add [email protected]:user/jslib.git ui/jslib

That will clone the git repo in as a submodule - which involves the standard cloning steps, but also several other more obscure config steps that git takes on your behalf to get that submodule to work. The most important difference is that it places a simple .git file there, instead of a .git directory, which contains a path reference to where the real git dir lives - generally at parent project root .git/modules/jslib.

If you don't do things this way they'll work fine for you, but as soon as you commit and push the parent, and another dev goes to pull that parent, you just made their life a lot harder. It will be very difficult for them to replicate the structure you have on your machine so long as you have a full .git dir in a subfolder of a dir that contains its own .git dir.

So, move, push, git add submodule, is the cleanest option.

add image to uitableview cell

All good answers from others. Here are two ways you can solve this:

  1. Directly from the code where you will have to programmatically control the dimensions of the imageview

    override func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, cellForRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) -> UITableViewCell {
        let cell = tableView.dequeueReusableCell(withIdentifier: "xyz", for: indexPath)
        ...
        cell.imageView!.image = UIImage(named: "xyz") // if retrieving the image from the assets folder
        return cell
    }

  2. From the story board, where you can use the attribute inspector & size inspector in the utility pane to adjust positioning, add constraints and specify dimensions

    • In the storyboard, add an imageView object in to the cell's content view with your desired dimensions and add a tag to the view(imageView) in the attribute inspector. Then do the following in your viewController

      override func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, cellForRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) -> UITableViewCell {
          let cell = tableView.dequeueReusableCell(withIdentifier: "xyz", for: indexPath)
          ...
          let pictureView = cell.viewWithTag(119) as! UIImageView //let's assume the tag is set to 119
          pictureView.image = UIImage(named: "xyz") // if retrieving the image from the assets folder
          return cell
      }

await vs Task.Wait - Deadlock?

Based on what I read from different sources:

An await expression does not block the thread on which it is executing. Instead, it causes the compiler to sign up the rest of the async method as a continuation on the awaited task. Control then returns to the caller of the async method. When the task completes, it invokes its continuation, and execution of the async method resumes where it left off.

To wait for a single task to complete, you can call its Task.Wait method. A call to the Wait method blocks the calling thread until the single class instance has completed execution. The parameterless Wait() method is used to wait unconditionally until a task completes. The task simulates work by calling the Thread.Sleep method to sleep for two seconds.

This article is also a good read.

How can I pass data from Flask to JavaScript in a template?

You can use {{ variable }} anywhere in your template, not just in the HTML part. So this should work:

<html>
<head>
  <script>
    var someJavaScriptVar = '{{ geocode[1] }}';
  </script>
</head>
<body>
  <p>Hello World</p>
  <button onclick="alert('Geocode: {{ geocode[0] }} ' + someJavaScriptVar)" />
</body>
</html>

Think of it as a two-stage process: First, Jinja (the template engine Flask uses) generates your text output. This gets sent to the user who executes the JavaScript he sees. If you want your Flask variable to be available in JavaScript as an array, you have to generate an array definition in your output:

<html>
  <head>
    <script>
      var myGeocode = ['{{ geocode[0] }}', '{{ geocode[1] }}'];
    </script>
  </head>
  <body>
    <p>Hello World</p>
    <button onclick="alert('Geocode: ' + myGeocode[0] + ' ' + myGeocode[1])" />
  </body>
</html>

Jinja also offers more advanced constructs from Python, so you can shorten it to:

<html>
<head>
  <script>
    var myGeocode = [{{ ', '.join(geocode) }}];
  </script>
</head>
<body>
  <p>Hello World</p>
  <button onclick="alert('Geocode: ' + myGeocode[0] + ' ' + myGeocode[1])" />
</body>
</html>

You can also use for loops, if statements and many more, see the Jinja2 documentation for more.

Also, have a look at Ford's answer who points out the tojson filter which is an addition to Jinja2's standard set of filters.

Edit Nov 2018: tojson is now included in Jinja2's standard set of filters.

How can I concatenate two arrays in Java?

Should do the trick. This is assuming String[] first and String[] second

List<String> myList = new ArrayList<String>(Arrays.asList(first));
myList.addAll(new ArrayList<String>(Arrays.asList(second)));
String[] both = myList.toArray(new String[myList.size()]);

apt-get for Cygwin?

You can do this using Cygwin’s setup.exe from Windows command line. Example:

cd C:\cygwin64
setup-x86_64 -q -P wget,tar,gawk,bzip2,subversion,vim

For a more convenient installer, you may want to use the apt-cyg package manager. Its syntax is similar to apt-get, which is a plus. For this, follow the above steps and then use Cygwin Bash for the following steps:

wget rawgit.com/transcode-open/apt-cyg/master/apt-cyg
install apt-cyg /bin

Now that apt-cyg is installed. Here are a few examples of installing some packages:

apt-cyg install nano
apt-cyg install git
apt-cyg install ca-certificates

SQL injection that gets around mysql_real_escape_string()

Consider the following query:

$iId = mysql_real_escape_string("1 OR 1=1");
$sSql = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE id = $iId";

mysql_real_escape_string() will not protect you against this. The fact that you use single quotes (' ') around your variables inside your query is what protects you against this. The following is also an option:

$iId = (int)"1 OR 1=1";
$sSql = "SELECT * FROM table WHERE id = $iId";

Vertical Alignment of text in a table cell

CSS {vertical-align: top;} or html Attribute {valign="top"}

For table vertical-align we have 2 options.

  1. is to use css {vertical-align: top;}
  1. another way is to user attribute "valign" and the property should be "top" {valign="top"}

I Found that removing the references to Entity Framework and installing the latest version of Entity Framework from NuGet fixed the issue. It recreates all the required entries for you during install.

Can I run HTML files directly from GitHub, instead of just viewing their source?

You can do this easily by Modifying Response Headers which can be done with Chrome and Firefox extension like Requestly.

In Chrome and Firefox:

  1. Install Requestly for Chrome and Requestly for Firefox

  2. Add the following Headers Modification Rules:

    enter image description here

    a) Content-Type:

    • Modify
    • Response
    • Header: Content-Type
    • Value: text/html
    • Source Url Matches: /raw\.githubusercontent\.com/.*\.html/

    b) Content-Security-Policy:

    • Modify
    • Response
    • Header: Content-Security-Policy
    • Value: default-src 'none'; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline'; img-src 'self' data:; script-src * 'unsafe-eval';
    • Source Url Matches: /raw\.githubusercontent\.com/.*\.html/

How to check if function exists in JavaScript?

"Press Any Key to Continue" function in C

Use the C Standard Library function getchar() instead as getch() is not a standard function, being provided by Borland TURBO C for MS-DOS/Windows only.

printf("Let the Battle Begin!\n");
printf("Press Any Key to Continue\n");
getchar();

Here, getchar() expects you to press the return key so the printf statement should be press ENTER to continue. Even if you press another key, you still need to press ENTER:

printf("Let the Battle Begin!\n");
printf("Press ENTER key to Continue\n");
getchar();

If you are using Windows then you can use getch()

printf("Let the Battle Begin!\n");
printf("Press Any Key to Continue\n");
getch();
//if you press any character it will continue ,
//but this is not a standard c function.

char ch;
printf("Let the Battle Begin!\n");
printf("Press ENTER key to Continue\n");
//here also if you press any other key will wait till pressing ENTER
scanf("%c",&ch); //works as getchar() but here extra variable is required.

Jquery get input array field

In order to select an element by attribute having a specific characteristic you may create a new selector like in the following snippet using a regex pattern. The usage of regex is intended to make flexible the new selector as much as possible:

_x000D_
_x000D_
jQuery.extend(jQuery.expr[':'], {
    nameMatch: function (ele, idx, selector) {
        var rpStr = (selector[3] || '').replace(/^\/(.*)\/$/, '$1');
        return (new RegExp(rpStr)).test(ele.name);
    }
});

//
// use of selector
//
$('input:nameMatch(/^pages_title\\[\\d\\]$/)').each(function(idx, ele) {
  console.log(ele.outerHTML);
});

Another solution can be based on:

  • [name^=”value”]: selects elements that have the specified attribute with a value beginning exactly with a given string.

  • .filter(): reduce the set of matched elements to those that match the selector or pass the function's test.

  • a regex pattern

var selectedEle = $(':input[name^="pages_title"]').filter(function(idx, ele) {

    // test if the name attribute matches the pattern.....

    return  /^pages_title\[\d\]$/.test(ele.name);
});
selectedEle.each(function(idx, ele) {
    console.log(ele.outerHTML);
});

        try {
            // Encode the string into bytes using utf-8
            byte[] utf8 = str.getBytes("UTF8");

            // Encrypt
            byte[] enc = ecipher.doFinal(utf8);

            // Encode bytes to base64 to get a string
            return new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder().encode(enc);
        } catch (javax.crypto.BadPaddingException e) {
        } catch (IllegalBlockSizeException e) {
        } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
        } catch (java.io.IOException e) {
        }
        return null;
    }

    public String decrypt(String str) {
        try {
            // Decode base64 to get bytes
            byte[] dec = new sun.misc.BASE64Decoder().decodeBuffer(str);

            // Decrypt
            byte[] utf8 = dcipher.doFinal(dec);

            // Decode using utf-8
            return new String(utf8, "UTF8");
        } catch (javax.crypto.BadPaddingException e) {
        } catch (IllegalBlockSizeException e) {
        } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
        } catch (java.io.IOException e) {
        }
        return null;
    }
}

Here's an example that uses the class:

try {
    // Generate a temporary key. In practice, you would save this key.
    // See also Encrypting with DES Using a Pass Phrase.
    SecretKey key = KeyGenerator.getInstance("DES").generateKey();

    // Create encrypter/decrypter class
    DesEncrypter encrypter = new DesEncrypter(key);

    // Encrypt
    String encrypted = encrypter.encrypt("Don't tell anybody!");

    // Decrypt
    String decrypted = encrypter.decrypt(encrypted);
} catch (Exception e) {
}

X-UA-Compatible is set to IE=edge, but it still doesn't stop Compatibility Mode

As it turns out, this has to do with Microsoft's "intelligent" choice to make all intranet sites force to compatibility mode, even if X-UA-Compatible is set to IE=edge.

Make a Bash alias that takes a parameter?

Once i did some fun project and i still use it. It's showing some animation while i copy files via cp command coz cp don't show anything and it's kind of frustrating. So i made this alias

alias cp="~/SCR/spiner cp"

And this is the spiner script

#!/bin/bash

#Set timer
T=$(date +%s)

#Add some color
. ~/SCR/color

#Animation sprites
sprite=( "(* )  ( *)" " (* )( *) " " ( *)(* ) " "( *)  (* )" "(* )  ( *)" )

#Print empty line and hide cursor
printf "\n${COF}"

#Exit function
function bye { printf "${CON}"; [ -e /proc/$pid ] && kill -9 $pid; exit; }; trap bye INT

#Run our command and get its pid
"$@" & pid=$!

#Waiting animation
i=0; while [ -e /proc/$pid ]; do sleep 0.1

    printf "\r${GRN}Please wait... ${YLW}${sprite[$i]}${DEF}"
    ((i++)); [[ $i = ${#sprite[@]} ]] && i=0

done

#Print time and exit
T=$(($(date +%s)-$T))
printf "\n\nTime taken: $(date -u -d @${T} +'%T')\n"

bye

It's look like this

PHP salt and hash SHA256 for login password

According to php.net the Salt option has been deprecated as of PHP 7.0.0, so you should use the salt that is generated by default and is far more simpler

Example for store the password:

$hashPassword = password_hash("password", PASSWORD_BCRYPT);

Example to verify the password:

$passwordCorrect = password_verify("password", $hashPassword);

Add multiple items to a list

Code check:

This is offtopic here but the people over at CodeReview are more than happy to help you.

I strongly suggest you to do so, there are several things that need attention in your code. Likewise I suggest that you do start reading tutorials since there is really no good reason not to do so.

Lists:

As you said yourself: you need a list of items. The way it is now you only store a reference to one item. Lucky there is exactly that to hold a group of related objects: a List.

Lists are very straightforward to use but take a look at the related documentation anyway.

A very simple example to keep multiple bikes in a list:

List<Motorbike> bikes = new List<Motorbike>();

bikes.add(new Bike { make = "Honda", color = "brown" });
bikes.add(new Bike { make = "Vroom", color = "red" });

And to iterate over the list you can use the foreach statement:

foreach(var bike in bikes) {
     Console.WriteLine(bike.make);
}

Value does not fall within the expected range

In case of WSS 3.0 recently I experienced same issue. It was because of column that was accessed from code was not present in the wss list.

Best Free Text Editor Supporting *More Than* 4GB Files?

It's really tough to handle a 4G file as such. I used to handle larger text files, but I never used to load them in to my editor. I mostly used UltraEdit in my previous company, now I use Notepad++, but I would get just those parts which i needed to edit. (Most of the cases, the files never needed an edit).

Why do u want to load such a big file in to an editor? When I handled files of these size, I used GNU Core Utils. The most common operations i performed on those files were head ( to get the top 250k lines etc ), tail, split, sort, shuf, uniq etc. It's really powerful.

There's a lot of things you can do with GNU Core Utils. I would definitely recommend those, instead of a new editor.

Checking if a variable is initialized

There is no way in the C++ language to check whether a variable is initialized or not (although class types with constructors will be initialized automatically).

Instead, what you need to do is provide constructor(s) that initialize your class to a valid state. Static code checkers (and possibly some compilers) can help you find missing variables in constructors. This way you don't have to worry about being in a bogus state and the if checks in your method can go away completely.

Installing SQL Server 2012 - Error: Prior Visual Studio 2010 instances requiring update

TypeError: ufunc 'add' did not contain a loop with signature matching types

You have a numpy array of strings, not floats. This is what is meant by dtype('<U9') -- a little endian encoded unicode string with up to 9 characters.

try:

return sum(np.asarray(listOfEmb, dtype=float)) / float(len(listOfEmb))

However, you don't need numpy here at all. You can really just do:

return sum(float(embedding) for embedding in listOfEmb) / len(listOfEmb)

Or if you're really set on using numpy.

return np.asarray(listOfEmb, dtype=float).mean()

What does Html.HiddenFor do?

onKeyDown event not working on divs in React

You're missing the binding of the method in the constructor. This is how React suggests that you do it:

class Whatever {
  constructor() {
    super();
    this.onKeyPressed = this.onKeyPressed.bind(this);
  }

  onKeyPressed(e) {
    // your code ...
  }

  render() {
    return (<div onKeyDown={this.onKeyPressed} />);
  }
}

There are other ways of doing this, but this will be the most efficient at runtime.

Rotate image with javascript

I think this will work.

    document.getElementById('#image').style.transform = "rotate(90deg)";

Hope this helps. It's work with me.

Replace deprecated preg_replace /e with preg_replace_callback

You can use an anonymous function to pass the matches to your function:

$result = preg_replace_callback(
    "/\{([<>])([a-zA-Z0-9_]*)(\?{0,1})([a-zA-Z0-9_]*)\}(.*)\{\\1\/\\2\}/isU",
    function($m) { return CallFunction($m[1], $m[2], $m[3], $m[4], $m[5]); },
    $result
);

Apart from being faster, this will also properly handle double quotes in your string. Your current code using /e would convert a double quote " into \".

file_put_contents(meta/services.json): failed to open stream: Permission denied

NEVER GIVE IT PERMISSION 777!

go to the directory of the laravel project on your terminal and write:

sudo chown -R your-user:www-data /path/to/your/laravel/project/
sudo find /same/path/ -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \;
sudo find /same/path/ -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \;
sudo chgrp -R www-data storage bootstrap/cache
sudo chmod -R ug+rwx storage bootstrap/cache

This way you're making your user the owner and giving privileges:
1 Execute, 2 Write, 4 Read
1+2+4 = 7 means (rwx)
2+4 = 6 means (rw)
finally, for the storage access, ug+rwx means you're giving the user and group a 7

Facebook Open Graph not clearing cache

I had the same issues using og:image, several attempts to rename the file or clear FB cache did not work either via the facebook debugger or testing via an actual account.

The new facebook guidelines state the image size should be 1200 x 630 or having that aspect ratio, this seems to be wrong, the only thing that worked for me was using an image with square dimensions.

Edit* Afew hours I went back to use 1200 x 630 and it magically worked, it was magical.

I also renamed the files to f*^*kfacebook.jpg, not sure it helped but it felt good.

Python : List of dict, if exists increment a dict value, if not append a new dict

That is a very strange way to organize things. If you stored in a dictionary, this is easy:

# This example should work in any version of Python.
# urls_d will contain URL keys, with counts as values, like: {'http://www.google.fr/' : 1 }
urls_d = {}
for url in list_of_urls:
    if not url in urls_d:
        urls_d[url] = 1
    else:
        urls_d[url] += 1

This code for updating a dictionary of counts is a common "pattern" in Python. It is so common that there is a special data structure, defaultdict, created just to make this even easier:

from collections import defaultdict # available in Python 2.5 and newer

urls_d = defaultdict(int)
for url in list_of_urls:
    urls_d[url] += 1

If you access the defaultdict using a key, and the key is not already in the defaultdict, the key is automatically added with a default value. The defaultdict takes the callable you passed in, and calls it to get the default value. In this case, we passed in class int; when Python calls int() it returns a zero value. So, the first time you reference a URL, its count is initialized to zero, and then you add one to the count.

But a dictionary full of counts is also a common pattern, so Python provides a ready-to-use class: containers.Counter You just create a Counter instance by calling the class, passing in any iterable; it builds a dictionary where the keys are values from the iterable, and the values are counts of how many times the key appeared in the iterable. The above example then becomes:

from collections import Counter # available in Python 2.7 and newer

urls_d = Counter(list_of_urls)

If you really need to do it the way you showed, the easiest and fastest way would be to use any one of these three examples, and then build the one you need.

from collections import defaultdict # available in Python 2.5 and newer

urls_d = defaultdict(int)
for url in list_of_urls:
    urls_d[url] += 1

urls = [{"url": key, "nbr": value} for key, value in urls_d.items()]

If you are using Python 2.7 or newer you can do it in a one-liner:

from collections import Counter

urls = [{"url": key, "nbr": value} for key, value in Counter(list_of_urls).items()]

What is the meaning of "$" sign in JavaScript

That is most likely jQuery code (more precisely, JavaScript using the jQuery library).

The $ represents the jQuery Function, and is actually a shorthand alias for jQuery. (Unlike in most languages, the $ symbol is not reserved, and may be used as a variable name.) It is typically used as a selector (i.e. a function that returns a set of elements found in the DOM).

Displaying one div on top of another

There are many ways to do it, but this is pretty simple and avoids issues with disrupting inline content positioning. You might need to adjust for margins/padding, too.

#backdrop, #curtain {
  height: 100px;
  width: 200px;
}

#curtain {
  position: relative;
  top: -100px;
}

cat, grep and cut - translated to python

In Python, without external dependencies, it is something like this (untested):

with open("filename") as origin:
    for line in origin:
        if not "something" in line:
           continue
        try:
            print line.split('"')[1]
        except IndexError:
            print

Scroll to a specific Element Using html

By using an href attribute inside an anchor tag you can scroll the page to a specific element using a # in front of the elements id name.

Also, here is some jQuery/JS that will accomplish putting variables into a div.

<html>
<body>

Click <a href="#myContent">here</a> to scroll to the myContent section.

<div id="myContent">
...
</div>

<script>
    var myClassName = "foo";

    $(function() {
        $("#myContent").addClass(myClassName);
    });
</script>

</body>

Using DataContractSerializer to serialize, but can't deserialize back

I ended up doing the following and it works.

public static string Serialize(object obj)
{
    using (MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream())
    {
        DataContractSerializer serializer = new DataContractSerializer(obj.GetType());
        serializer.WriteObject(memoryStream, obj);
        return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(memoryStream.ToArray());
    }
}

public static object Deserialize(string xml, Type toType)
{
    using (MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(xml)))
    {
        XmlDictionaryReader reader = XmlDictionaryReader.CreateTextReader(memoryStream, Encoding.UTF8, new XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas(), null);
        DataContractSerializer serializer = new DataContractSerializer(toType);
        return serializer.ReadObject(reader);
    }
}

It seems that the major problem was in the Serialize function when calling stream.GetBuffer(). Calling stream.ToArray() appears to work.

How to add an element to Array and shift indexes?

Jrad solution is good but I don't like that he doesn't use array copy. Internally System.arraycopy() does a native call so you will a get faster results.

public static int[] addPos(int[] a, int index, int num) {
    int[] result = new int[a.length];
    System.arraycopy(a, 0, result, 0, index);
    System.arraycopy(a, index, result, index + 1, a.length - index - 1);
    result[index] = num;
    return result;
}

Adding link a href to an element using css

No. Its not possible to add link through css. But you can use jquery

$('.case').each(function() {
  var link = $(this).html();
  $(this).contents().wrap('<a href="example.com/script.php?id="></a>');
});

ASP.net Getting the error "Access to the path is denied." while trying to upload files to my Windows Server 2008 R2 Web server

Your asp.net account {MACHINE}\ASPNET does not have write access to that location. That is the reason why its failing.

Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity.

Right click on downloading folder Properties > Security Tab > Edit > Add > locations > choose your local machine > click OK > Type ASPNET below "Enter the object name to select" > Click Check Names Check the boxes for the desired access (Full Control). If it will not work for you do the same with Network Service

Now this should show your local {MACHINENAME}\ASPNET account, then you set the write permission to this account.

Otherwise if the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.

Or just use dedicated location for storing files in ASP.NET which is App_Data. To create it right click on your ASP.NET Project (in Visual Studio) Add > Add ASP.NET Folder > App_Data. Then you'll be able to save data to this location:

var path = Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/file.txt");
System.IO.File.WriteAllText(path, "Hello World");

Cookies vs. sessions

Session and Cookie are not a same.

A session is used to store the information from the web pages. Normally web pages don’t have any memories to store these information. But using we can save the necessary information.

But Cookie is used to identifying the users. Using cookie we can store the data’s. It is a small part of data which will store in user web browser. So whenever user browse next time browser send back the cookie data information to server for getting the previous activities.

org.json.simple.JSONArray cannot be cast to org.json.simple.JSONObject

If you want to re-filter the json data you can use following method. Given example is getting all document data from couchdb.

{
    Gson gson = new Gson();
    String resultJson = restTemplate.getForObject(url+"_all_docs?include_docs=true", String.class);
    JSONObject object =  (JSONObject) new JSONParser().parse(resultJson);
    JSONArray rowdata = (JSONArray) object.get("rows");
    List<Object>list=new ArrayList<Object>();
    for(int i=0;i<rowdata.size();i++) {
        JSONObject index = (JSONObject) rowdata.get(i);
        JSONObject data = (JSONObject) index.get("doc");
        list.add(data);
    }
    // convert your list to json
    String devicelist = gson.toJson(list);
    return devicelist;
}

CSS selector for first element with class

For some reason none of the above answers seemed to be addressing the case of the real first and only first child of the parent.

#element_id > .class_name:first-child

All the above answers will fail if you want to apply the style to only the first class child within this code.

<aside id="element_id">
  Content
  <div class="class_name">First content that need to be styled</div>
  <div class="class_name">
    Second content that don't need to be styled
    <div>
      <div>
        <div class="class_name">deep content - no style</div>
        <div class="class_name">deep content - no style</div>
        <div>
          <div class="class_name">deep content - no style</div>
        </div>
      </div>
    </div>
  </div>

How do I format a date in Jinja2?

If you are dealing with a lower level time object (I often just use integers), and don't want to write a custom filter for whatever reason, an approach I use is to pass the strftime function into the template as a variable, where it can be called where you need it.

For example:

import time
context={
    'now':int(time.time()),
    'strftime':time.strftime } # Note there are no brackets () after strftime
                                # This means we are passing in a function,
                                # not the result of a function.

self.response.write(jinja2.render_template('sometemplate.html', **context))

Which can then be used within sometemplate.html:

<html>
    <body>
        <p>The time is {{ strftime('%H:%M%:%S',now) }}, and 5 seconds ago it was {{ strftime('%H:%M%:%S',now-5) }}.
    </body>
</html>

Integration Testing POSTing an entire object to Spring MVC controller

I ran into the same issue a while ago and did solve it by using reflection with some help from Jackson.

First populate a map with all the fields on an Object. Then add those map entries as parameters to the MockHttpServletRequestBuilder.

In this way you can use any Object and you are passing it as request parameters. I'm sure there are other solutions out there but this one worked for us:

    @Test
    public void testFormEdit() throws Exception {
        getMockMvc()
                .perform(
                        addFormParameters(post(servletPath + tableRootUrl + "/" + POST_FORM_EDIT_URL).servletPath(servletPath)
                                .param("entityID", entityId), validEntity)).andDo(print()).andExpect(status().isOk())
                .andExpect(content().contentType(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)).andExpect(content().string(equalTo(entityId)));
    }

    private MockHttpServletRequestBuilder addFormParameters(MockHttpServletRequestBuilder builder, Object object)
            throws IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException, NoSuchMethodException {

        SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat(applicationSettings.getApplicationDateFormat());

        Map<String, ?> propertyValues = getPropertyValues(object, dateFormat);

        for (Entry<String, ?> entry : propertyValues.entrySet()) {
            builder.param(entry.getKey(),
                    Util.prepareDisplayValue(entry.getValue(), applicationSettings.getApplicationDateFormat()));
        }

        return builder;
    }

    private Map<String, ?> getPropertyValues(Object object, DateFormat dateFormat) {
        ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
        mapper.setDateFormat(dateFormat);
        mapper.setSerializationInclusion(JsonInclude.Include.NON_NULL);
        mapper.registerModule(new JodaModule());

        TypeReference<HashMap<String, ?>> typeRef = new TypeReference<HashMap<String, ?>>() {};

        Map<String, ?> returnValues = mapper.convertValue(object, typeRef);

        return returnValues;

    }

Cursor inside cursor

You could also sidestep nested cursor issues, general cursor issues, and global variable issues by avoiding the cursors entirely.

declare @rowid int
declare @rowid2 int
declare @id int
declare @type varchar(10)
declare @rows int
declare @rows2 int
declare @outer table (rowid int identity(1,1), id int, type varchar(100))
declare @inner table (rowid int identity(1,1), clientid int, whatever int)

insert into @outer (id, type)
Select id, type from sometable

select @rows = count(1) from @outer
while (@rows > 0)
Begin
    select top 1 @rowid = rowid, @id  = id, @type = type
    from @outer
    insert into @innner (clientid, whatever )
    select clientid whatever from contacts where contactid = @id
    select @rows2 = count(1) from @inner
    while (@rows2 > 0)
    Begin
        select top 1 /* stuff you want into some variables */
        /* Other statements you want to execute */
        delete from @inner where rowid = @rowid2
        select @rows2 = count(1) from @inner
    End
    delete from @outer where rowid = @rowid
    select @rows = count(1) from @outer

Convert List<DerivedClass> to List<BaseClass>

I've read this whole thread, and I just want to point out what seems like an inconsistency to me.

The compiler prevents you from doing the assignment with Lists:

List<Tiger> myTigersList = new List<Tiger>() { new Tiger(), new Tiger(), new Tiger() };
List<Animal> myAnimalsList = myTigersList;    // Compiler error

But the compiler is perfectly fine with arrays:

Tiger[] myTigersArray = new Tiger[3] { new Tiger(), new Tiger(), new Tiger() };
Animal[] myAnimalsArray = myTigersArray; // No problem

The argument about whether the assignment is known to be safe falls apart here. The assignment I did with the array is not safe. To prove that, if I follow that up with this:

myAnimalsArray[1] = new Giraffe();

I get a runtime exception "ArrayTypeMismatchException". How does one explain this? If the compiler really wants to prevent me from doing something stupid, it should have prevented me from doing the array assignment.

How to grant permission to users for a directory using command line in Windows?

in windows 10 working without "c:>" and ">"

For example:

F = Full Control
/e : Edit permission and kept old permission
/p : Set new permission

cacls "file or folder path" /e /p UserName:F

(also this fixes error 2502 and 2503)

cacls "C:\Windows\Temp" /e /p UserName:F

How to Export-CSV of Active Directory Objects?

csvde -f test.csv

This command will perform a CSV dump of every entry in your Active Directory server. You should be able to see the full DN's of users and groups.

You will have to go through that output file and get rid off the unnecessary content.

What is a wrapper class?

Wrapper class is a class that wrap the another class and provide the abstraction between client and the original class being wrapped.

Interpreting segfault messages

Let's go to the source -- 2.6.32, for example. The message is printed by show_signal_msg() function in arch/x86/mm/fault.c if the show_unhandled_signals sysctl is set.

"error" is not an errno nor a signal number, it's a "page fault error code" -- see definition of enum x86_pf_error_code.

"[7fa44d2f8000+f6f000]" is starting address and size of virtual memory area where offending object was mapped at the time of crash. Value of "ip" should fit in this region. With this info in hand, it should be easy to find offending code in gdb.

What is the best way to know if all the variables in a Class are null?

The best way in my opinion is Reflection as others have recommended. Here's a sample that evaluates each local field for null. If it finds one that is not null, method will return false.

public class User {

    String id = null;
    String name = null;

    public String getId() {
        return id;
    }

    public void setId(String id) {
        this.id = id;
    }

    public String getName() {
        return name;
    }

    public void setName(String name) {
        this.name = name;
    }

    public boolean isNull() {
        Field fields[] = this.getClass().getDeclaredFields();
        for (Field f : fields) {
            try {
                Object value = f.get(this);
                if (value != null) {
                    return false;
                }
            }
            catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
                // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                e.printStackTrace();
            }
            catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
                // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                e.printStackTrace();
            }

        }
        return true;

    }

    public static void main(String args[]) {
        System.out.println(new User().isNull());
    }
}

Select last row in MySQL

Yes, there's an auto_increment in there

If you want the last of all the rows in the table, then this is finally the time where MAX(id) is the right answer! Kind of:

SELECT fields FROM table ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 1;

Chrome hangs after certain amount of data transfered - waiting for available socket

Looks like you are hitting the limit on connections per server. I see you are loading a lot of static files and my advice is to separate them on subdomains and serve them directly with Nginx for example.

  • Create a subdomain called img.yoursite.com and load all your images from there.

  • Create a subdomain called scripts.yourdomain.com and load all your JS and CSS files from there.

  • Create a subdomain called sounds.yoursite.com and load all your MP3s from there... etc..

Nginx has great options for directly serving static files and managing the static files caching.

How to keep :active css style after click a button

I FIGURED IT OUT. SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE NO jQUERY

We're going to to be using a hidden checkbox.
This example includes one "on click - off click 'hover / active' state"

--

To make content itself clickable:

HTML

<input type="checkbox" id="activate-div">
  <label for="activate-div">
   <div class="my-div">
      //MY DIV CONTENT
   </div>
  </label>

CSS

#activate-div{display:none}

.my-div{background-color:#FFF}

#activate-div:checked ~ label
.my-div{background-color:#000}

To make button change content:

HTML

<input type="checkbox" id="activate-div">
   <div class="my-div">
      //MY DIV CONTENT
   </div>

<label for="activate-div">
   //MY BUTTON STUFF
</label>

CSS

#activate-div{display:none}

.my-div{background-color:#FFF}

#activate-div:checked +
.my-div{background-color:#000}

Hope it helps!!

Run automatically program on startup under linux ubuntu

sudo mv /filename /etc/init.d/
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/filename
sudo update-rc.d filename defaults

Script should now start on boot. Note that this method also works with both hard links and symbolic links (ln).

Edit

At this point in the boot process PATH isn't set yet, so it is critical that absolute paths are used throughout. BUT, as pointed out in the comments by Steve HHH, explicitly declaring the full file path (/etc/init.d/filename) for the update-rc.d command is not valid in most versions of Linux. Per the manpage for update-rc.d, the second parameter is a script located in /etc/init.d/*. Updated above code to reflect this.

Another Edit

Also as pointed out in the comments (by Charles Brandt), /filename must be an init style script. A good template was also provided - https://github.com/fhd/init-script-template.

Another link to another article just to avoid possible link rot (although it would be saddening if GitHub died) - http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/442412-managing-linux-daemons-with-init-scripts

yetAnother Edit

As pointed out in the comments (by Russell Yan), This works only on default mode of update-rc.d.

According to manual of update-rc.d, it can run on two modes, "the machines using the legacy mode will have a file /etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering", in which case you have to pass sequence and runlevel configuration through command line arguments.

The equivalent argument set for the above example is

sudo update-rc.d filename start 20 2 3 4 5 . stop 20 0 1 6 .

How do I link object files in C? Fails with "Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64"

Since there's no mention of how to compile a .c file together with a bunch of .o files, and this comment asks for it:

where's the main.c in this answer? :/ if file1.c is the main, how do you link it with other already compiled .o files? – Tom Brito Oct 12 '14 at 19:45

$ gcc main.c lib_obj1.o lib_obj2.o lib_objN.o -o x0rbin

Here, main.c is the C file with the main() function and the object files (*.o) are precompiled. GCC knows how to handle these together, and invokes the linker accordingly and results in a final executable, which in our case is x0rbin.

You will be able to use functions not defined in the main.c but using an extern reference to functions defined in the object files (*.o).

You can also link with .obj or other extensions if the object files have the correct format (such as COFF).

SQLite string contains other string query

While LIKE is suitable for this case, a more general purpose solution is to use instr, which doesn't require characters in the search string to be escaped. Note: instr is available starting from Sqlite 3.7.15.

SELECT *
  FROM TABLE
 WHERE instr(column, 'cats') > 0;

Also, keep in mind that LIKE is case-insensitive, whereas instr is case-sensitive.

Check input value length

You can add a form onsubmit handler, something like:

<form onsubmit="return validate();">

</form>

<script>function validate() {
 // check if input is bigger than 3
 var value = document.getElementById('titleeee').value;
 if (value.length < 3) {
   return false; // keep form from submitting
 }

 // else form is good let it submit, of course you will
 // probably want to alert the user WHAT went wrong.

 return true;
}</script>

mongodb: insert if not exists

I don't think mongodb supports this type of selective upserting. I have the same problem as LeMiz, and using update(criteria, newObj, upsert, multi) doesn't work right when dealing with both a 'created' and 'updated' timestamp. Given the following upsert statement:

update( { "name": "abc" },
        { $set: { "created": "2010-07-14 11:11:11",
                  "updated": "2010-07-14 11:11:11" }},
        true, true )

Scenario #1 - document with 'name' of 'abc' does not exist: New document is created with 'name' = 'abc', 'created' = 2010-07-14 11:11:11, and 'updated' = 2010-07-14 11:11:11.

Scenario #2 - document with 'name' of 'abc' already exists with the following: 'name' = 'abc', 'created' = 2010-07-12 09:09:09, and 'updated' = 2010-07-13 10:10:10. After the upsert, the document would now be the same as the result in scenario #1. There's no way to specify in an upsert which fields be set if inserting, and which fields be left alone if updating.

My solution was to create a unique index on the critera fields, perform an insert, and immediately afterward perform an update just on the 'updated' field.

Stop a gif animation onload, on mouseover start the activation

There is only one way from what I am aware.

Have 2 images, first a jpeg with first frame(or whatever you want) of the gif and the actual gif.

Load the page with the jpeg in place and on mouse over replace the jpeg with the gif. You can preload the gifs if you want or if they are of big size show a loading while the gif is loading and then replace the jpeg with it.

If you whant it to bi linear as in have the gif play on mouse over, stop it on mouse out and then resume play from the frame you stopped, then this cannot be done with javascript+gif combo.

WPF Datagrid Get Selected Cell Value

If SelectionUnit="Cell" try this:

    string cellValue = GetSelectedCellValue();

Where:

    public string GetSelectedCellValue()
    {
        DataGridCellInfo cellInfo = MyDataGrid.SelectedCells[0];
        if (cellInfo == null) return null;

        DataGridBoundColumn column = cellInfo.Column as DataGridBoundColumn;
        if (column == null) return null;

        FrameworkElement element = new FrameworkElement() { DataContext = cellInfo.Item };
        BindingOperations.SetBinding(element, TagProperty, column.Binding);

        return element.Tag.ToString();
    }

Seems like it shouldn't be that complicated, I know...

Edit: This doesn't seem to work on DataGridTemplateColumn type columns. You could also try this if your rows are made up of a custom class and you've assigned a sort member path:

    public string GetSelectedCellValue()
    {
        DataGridCellInfo cells = MyDataGrid.SelectedCells[0];

        YourRowClass item = cells.Item as YourRowClass;
        string columnName = cells.Column.SortMemberPath;

        if (item == null || columnName == null) return null;

        object result = item.GetType().GetProperty(columnName).GetValue(item, null);

        if (result == null) return null;

        return result.ToString();
    }

Generate Json schema from XML schema (XSD)

JSON Schema is not intended to be feature equivalent with XML Schema. There are features in one but not in the other.

In general you can create a mapping from XML to JSON and back again, but that is not the case for XML schema and JSON schema.

That said, if you have mapped a XML file to JSON, it is quite possible to craft an JSON Schema that validates that JSON in nearly the same way that the XSD validates the XML. But it isn't a direct mapping. And it is not possible to guarantee that it will validate the JSON exactly the same as the XSD validates the XML.

For this reason, and unless the two specs are made to be 100% feature compatible, migrating a validation system from XML/XSD to JSON/JSON Schema will require human intervention.

Alternate output format for psql

Also be sure to check out \H, which toggles HTML output on/off. Not necessarily easy to read at the console, but interesting for dumping into a file (see \o) or pasting into an editor/browser window for viewing, especially with multiple rows of relatively complex data.

Executing periodic actions in Python

Here's a simple single threaded sleep based version that drifts, but tries to auto-correct when it detects drift.

NOTE: This will only work if the following 3 reasonable assumptions are met:

  1. The time period is much larger than the execution time of the function being executed
  2. The function being executed takes approximately the same amount of time on each call
  3. The amount of drift between calls is less than a second

-

from datetime import timedelta
from datetime import datetime

def exec_every_n_seconds(n,f):
    first_called=datetime.now()
    f()
    num_calls=1
    drift=timedelta()
    time_period=timedelta(seconds=n)
    while 1:
        time.sleep(n-drift.microseconds/1000000.0)
        current_time = datetime.now()
        f()
        num_calls += 1
        difference = current_time - first_called
        drift = difference - time_period* num_calls
        print "drift=",drift

How to split data into 3 sets (train, validation and test)?

def train_val_test_split(X, y, train_size, val_size, test_size):
    X_train_val, X_test, y_train_val, y_test = train_test_split(X, y, test_size = test_size)
    relative_train_size = train_size / (val_size + train_size)
    X_train, X_val, y_train, y_val = train_test_split(X_train_val, y_train_val,
                                                      train_size = relative_train_size, test_size = 1-relative_train_size)
    return X_train, X_val, X_test, y_train, y_val, y_test

Here we split data 2 times with sklearn's train_test_split

How to change max_allowed_packet size

Many of the answerers spotted the issue and already gave the solution.

I just want to suggest another solution, which is changing the Glogal variable value from within the tool Mysql Workbench. That is ofcourse IF you use Workbench running locally on server (or via SSH connection)

You just connect to your instance and go on menu:

Server -> Options File -> Networking -> max_allowed_packed

You set the desired value and then you need to restart MySql Service.

Difference between Xms and Xmx and XX:MaxPermSize

Java objects reside in an area called the heap, while metadata such as class objects and method objects reside in the permanent generation or Perm Gen area. The permanent generation is not part of the heap.

The heap is created when the JVM starts up and may increase or decrease in size while the application runs. When the heap becomes full, garbage is collected. During the garbage collection objects that are no longer used are cleared, thus making space for new objects.

-Xmssize Specifies the initial heap size.

-Xmxsize Specifies the maximum heap size.

-XX:MaxPermSize=size Sets the maximum permanent generation space size. This option was deprecated in JDK 8, and superseded by the -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize option.

Sizes are expressed in bytes. Append the letter k or K to indicate kilobytes, m or M to indicate megabytes, g or G to indicate gigabytes.

Change collations of all columns of all tables in SQL Server

As I did not find a proper way I wrote a script to do it and I'm sharing it here for those who need it. The script runs through all user tables and collects the columns. If the column type is any char type then it tries to convert it to the given collation.

Columns has to be index and constraint free for this to work.

If someone still has a better solution to this please post it!

How to convert java.util.Date to java.sql.Date?

I was trying the following coding that worked fine.

java.util.Date utilDate = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(utilDate);

'uint32_t' does not name a type

just navigate to /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/bits open stdint-uintn.h and add these lines

typedef __uint8_t uint8_t;
typedef __uint16_t uint16_t;
typedef __uint32_t uint32_t;
typedef __uint64_t uint64_t;

again open stdint-intn.h and add

typedef __int8_t int8_t;
typedef __int16_t int16_t;
typedef __int32_t int32_t;
typedef __int64_t int64_t;

note these lines are already present just copy and add the missing lines cheerss..

How can I force a hard reload in Chrome for Android

Keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+Shift+R work on Android too, you just need a keyboard capable of sending these keys. I used Hacker's Keyboard to send Ctrl+Shift+R, which did a hard reload on my phone.

Axios handling errors

You can go like this: error.response.data
In my case, I got error property from backend. So, I used error.response.data.error

My code:

axios
  .get(`${API_BASE_URL}/students`)
  .then(response => {
     return response.data
  })
  .then(data => {
     console.log(data)
  })
  .catch(error => {
     console.log(error.response.data.error)
  })

Customize the Authorization HTTP header

You can create your own custom auth schemas that use the Authorization: header - for example, this is how OAuth works.

As a general rule, if servers or proxies don't understand the values of standard headers, they will leave them alone and ignore them. It is creating your own header keys that can often produce unexpected results - many proxies will strip headers with names they don't recognise.

Having said that, it is possibly a better idea to use cookies to transmit the token, rather than the Authorization: header, for the simple reason that cookies were explicitly designed to carry custom values, whereas the specification for HTTP's built in auth methods does not really say either way - if you want to see exactly what it does say, have a look here.

The other point about this is that many HTTP client libraries have built-in support for Digest and Basic auth but may make life more difficult when trying to set a raw value in the header field, whereas they will all provide easy support for cookies and will allow more or less any value within them.

JQuery Ajax Post results in 500 Internal Server Error

The JSON data you are passing to the server should have same name as you forming in client side. Ex:

var obj = {  Id: $('#CompanyId').val(),
             Name: $("#CompanyName").val()
            };

$.Ajax(data: obj,
url: "home/InsertCompany".....

If the name is different, ex:

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult InsertCompany(Int32 Id, string WrongName)
{
}

You will get this error.

If you are not passing the data, remove the data attribute from AJAX request.

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request

You have more than one form tags with runat="server" on your template, most probably you have one in your master page, remove one on your aspx page, it is not needed if already have form in master page file which is surrounding your content place holders.

Try to remove that tag:

<form id="formID" runat="server">

and of course closing tag:

</form>

Heroku + node.js error (Web process failed to bind to $PORT within 60 seconds of launch)

A fixed number can't be set for port, heroku assigns it dynamically using process.env.PORT. But you can add them both, like this process.env.PORT || 5000. Heroku will use the first one, and your localhost will use the second one.

You can even add your call back function. Look at the code below

app.listen(process.env.PORT || 5000, function() {
    console.log("Server started.......");
});

Indexes of all occurrences of character in a string

This should print the list of positions without the -1 at the end that Peter Lawrey's solution has had.

int index = word.indexOf(guess);
while (index >= 0) {
    System.out.println(index);
    index = word.indexOf(guess, index + 1);
}

It can also be done as a for loop:

for (int index = word.indexOf(guess);
     index >= 0;
     index = word.indexOf(guess, index + 1))
{
    System.out.println(index);
}

[Note: if guess can be longer than a single character, then it is possible, by analyzing the guess string, to loop through word faster than the above loops do. The benchmark for such an approach is the Boyer-Moore algorithm. However, the conditions that would favor using such an approach do not seem to be present.]

Is there a function in python to split a word into a list?

def count(): list = 'oixfjhibokxnjfklmhjpxesriktglanwekgfvnk'

word_list = []
# dict = {}
for i in range(len(list)):
    word_list.append(list[i])
# word_list1 = sorted(word_list)
for i in range(len(word_list) - 1, 0, -1):
    for j in range(i):
        if word_list[j] > word_list[j + 1]:
            temp = word_list[j]
            word_list[j] = word_list[j + 1]
            word_list[j + 1] = temp
print("final count of arrival of each letter is : \n", dict(map(lambda x: (x, word_list.count(x)), word_list)))

Decompile Python 2.7 .pyc

Ned Batchelder has posted a short script that will unmarshal a .pyc file and disassemble any code objects within, so you'll be able to see the Python bytecode. It looks like with newer versions of Python, you'll need to comment out the lines that set modtime and print it (but don't comment the line that sets moddate).

Turning that back into Python source would be somewhat more difficult, although theoretically possible. I assume all these programs that work for older versions of Python do that.

Difference between jQuery .hide() and .css("display", "none")

Yes there is a difference.

jQuery('#id').css("display","block") will always set the element you want to show as block.

jQuery('#id').show() will et is to what display type it initially was, display: inline for example.

Key Presses in Python

Check This module keyboard with many features.Install it, perhaps with this command:

pip3 install keyboard

Then Use this Code:

import keyboard
keyboard.write('A',delay=0)

If you Want to write 'A' multiple times, Then simply use a loop.
Note:
The key 'A' will be pressed for the whole windows.Means the script is running and you went to browser, the script will start writing there.

How do I recognize "#VALUE!" in Excel spreadsheets?

in EXCEL 2013 i had to use IF function 2 times: 1st to identify error with ISERROR and 2nd to identify the specific type of error by ERROR.TYPE=3 in order to address this type of error. This way you can differentiate between error you want and other types.

RewriteEngine, DirectoryIndex in .htaccess file of CodeIgniter apps

I just changed the .htaccess file contents and as shown in the following links answer. And tried refreshing the page (which didn't work, and couldn't find the request to my controller) it worked.

Then just because of my doubt I undone the changes I did to my .htaccess inside my public_html folder back to original .htaccess content. So it's now as follows (which is originally it was):

DirectoryIndex index.php
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|css|js|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico)
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ./index.php?/$1 [L,QSA]

And now also it works.

Hint: Seems like before the Rewrite Rules haven't been clearly setup within the Server context.

My file structure is as follows:

/
|- gheapp
|    |- application
|    L- system
|
|- public_html
|    |- .htaccess
|    L- index.php

And in the index.php I have set up the following paths to the system and the application:

$system_path = '../gheapp/system';
$application_folder = '../gheapp/application';

Note: by doing so, our application source code becomes hidden to the public at first.

Please, if you guys find anything wrong with my answer, comment and re-correct me!
Hope beginners would find this answer helpful.

Thanks!

How to escape a single quote inside awk

Another option is to pass the single quote as an awk variable:

awk -v q=\' 'BEGIN {FS=" ";} {printf "%s%s%s ", q, $1, q}'

Simpler example with string concatenation:

# Prints 'test me', *including* the single quotes.
$ awk -v q=\' '{print q $0 q }' <<<'test me'
'test me'

How do I use Notepad++ (or other) with msysgit?

git config core.editor "\"C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe\""

Changing text color onclick

A rewrite of the answer by Sarfraz would be something like this, I think:

<script>

    document.getElementById('change').onclick = changeColor;

    function changeColor() {
        document.body.style.color = "purple";
        return false;
    }

</script>

You'd either have to put this script at the bottom of your page, right before the closing body tag, or put the handler assignment in a function called onload - or if you're using jQuery there's the very elegant $(document).ready(function() { ... } );

Note that when you assign event handlers this way, it takes the functionality out of your HTML. Also note you set it equal to the function name -- no (). If you did onclick = myFunc(); the function would actually execute when the handler is being set.

And I'm curious -- you knew enough to script changing the background color, but not the text color? strange:)

Reversing a linked list in Java, recursively

There's code in one reply that spells it out, but you might find it easier to start from the bottom up, by asking and answering tiny questions (this is the approach in The Little Lisper):

  1. What is the reverse of null (the empty list)? null.
  2. What is the reverse of a one element list? the element.
  3. What is the reverse of an n element list? the reverse of the rest of the list followed by the first element.

public ListNode Reverse(ListNode list)
{
    if (list == null) return null; // first question

    if (list.next == null) return list; // second question

    // third question - in Lisp this is easy, but we don't have cons
    // so we grab the second element (which will be the last after we reverse it)

    ListNode secondElem = list.next;

    // bug fix - need to unlink list from the rest or you will get a cycle
    list.next = null;

    // then we reverse everything from the second element on
    ListNode reverseRest = Reverse(secondElem);

    // then we join the two lists
    secondElem.next = list;

    return reverseRest;
}

Calling a function within a Class method?

To call any method of an object instantiated from a class (with statement new), you need to "point" to it. From the outside you just use the resource created by the new statement. Inside any object PHP created by new, saves the same resource into the $this variable. So, inside a class you MUST point to the method by $this. In your class, to call smallTest from inside the class, you must tell PHP which of all the objects created by the new statement you want to execute, just write:

$this->smallTest();

What's the strangest corner case you've seen in C# or .NET?

Interesting - when I first looked at that I assumed it was something the C# compiler was checking for, but even if you emit the IL directly to remove any chance of interference it still happens, which means it really is the newobj op-code that's doing the checking.

var method = new DynamicMethod("Test", null, null);
var il = method.GetILGenerator();

il.Emit(OpCodes.Ldc_I4_0);
il.Emit(OpCodes.Newarr, typeof(char));
il.Emit(OpCodes.Newobj, typeof(string).GetConstructor(new[] { typeof(char[]) }));

il.Emit(OpCodes.Ldc_I4_0);
il.Emit(OpCodes.Newarr, typeof(char));
il.Emit(OpCodes.Newobj, typeof(string).GetConstructor(new[] { typeof(char[]) }));

il.Emit(OpCodes.Call, typeof(object).GetMethod("ReferenceEquals"));
il.Emit(OpCodes.Box, typeof(bool));
il.Emit(OpCodes.Call, typeof(Console).GetMethod("WriteLine", new[] { typeof(object) }));

il.Emit(OpCodes.Ret);

method.Invoke(null, null);

It also equates to true if you check against string.Empty which means this op-code must have special behaviour to intern empty strings.

How to tell if UIViewController's view is visible

The view's window property is non-nil if a view is currently visible, so check the main view in the view controller:

Invoking the view method causes the view to load (if it is not loaded) which is unnecessary and may be undesirable. It would be better to check first to see if it is already loaded. I've added the call to isViewLoaded to avoid this problem.

if (viewController.isViewLoaded && viewController.view.window) {
    // viewController is visible
}

Since iOS9 it has became easier:

if viewController.viewIfLoaded?.window != nil {
    // viewController is visible
}

Or if you have a UINavigationController managing the view controllers, you could check its visibleViewController property instead.

javascript how to create a validation error message without using alert

You need to stop the submission if an error occured:

HTML

<form name ="myform" onsubmit="return validation();">

JS

if (document.myform.username.value == "") {
     document.getElementById('errors').innerHTML="*Please enter a username*";
     return false;
}

How can I compare two time strings in the format HH:MM:SS?

I improved this function from @kamil-p solution. I ignored seconds compare . You can add seconds logic to this function by attention your using.

Work only for "HH:mm" time format.

function compareTime(str1, str2){
    if(str1 === str2){
        return 0;
    }
    var time1 = str1.split(':');
    var time2 = str2.split(':');
    if(eval(time1[0]) > eval(time2[0])){
        return 1;
    } else if(eval(time1[0]) == eval(time2[0]) && eval(time1[1]) > eval(time2[1])) {
        return 1;
    } else {
        return -1;
    }
}

example

alert(compareTime('8:30','11:20'));

Thanks to @kamil-p

Creating an abstract class in Objective-C

No, there is no way to create an abstract class in Objective-C.

You can mock an abstract class - by making the methods/ selectors call doesNotRecognizeSelector: and therefore raise an exception making the class unusable.

For example:

- (id)someMethod:(SomeObject*)blah
{
     [self doesNotRecognizeSelector:_cmd];
     return nil;
}

You can also do this for init.

How to write to Console.Out during execution of an MSTest test

Use the Debug.WriteLine. This will display your message in the Output window immediately. The only restriction is that you must run your test in Debug mode.

[TestMethod]
public void TestMethod1()
{
    Debug.WriteLine("Time {0}", DateTime.Now);
    System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(30000);
    Debug.WriteLine("Time {0}", DateTime.Now);
}

Output

How do I add an integer value with javascript (jquery) to a value that's returning a string?

var month = new Date().getMonth();
var newmon = month + 1;
$('#month').html((newmon < 10 ? '0' : '') + newmon );

I simply fixed your month issue, getMonth array start from 0 to 11.

JFrame background image

The best way to load an image is through the ImageIO API

BufferedImage img = ImageIO.read(new File("/path/to/some/image"));

There are a number of ways you can render an image to the screen.

You could use a JLabel. This is the simplest method if you don't want to modify the image in anyway...

JLabel background = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(img));

Then simply add it to your window as you see fit. If you need to add components to it, then you can simply set the label's layout manager to whatever you need and add your components.

If, however, you need something more sophisticated, need to change the image somehow or want to apply additional effects, you may need to use custom painting.

First cavert: Don't ever paint directly to a top level container (like JFrame). Top level containers aren't double buffered, so you may end up with some flashing between repaints, other objects live on the window, so changing it's paint process is troublesome and can cause other issues and frames have borders which are rendered inside the viewable area of the window...

Instead, create a custom component, extending from something like JPanel. Override it's paintComponent method and render your output to it, for example...

protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
    super.paintComponent(g);
    g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, this);
}

Take a look at Performing Custom Painting and 2D Graphics for more details

fork: retry: Resource temporarily unavailable

Another possibility is too many threads. We just ran into this error message when running a test harness against an app that uses a thread pool. We used

watch -n 5 -d "ps -eL <java_pid> | wc -l"

to watch the ongoing count of Linux native threads running within the given Java process ID. After this hit about 1,000 (for us--YMMV), we started getting the error message you mention.

How to execute function in SQL Server 2008

It looks like there's something else called Afisho_rankimin in your DB so the function is not being created. Try calling your function something else. E.g.

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.Afisho_rankimin1(@emri_rest int)
RETURNS int
AS
   BEGIN
       Declare @rankimi int
       Select @rankimi=dbo.RESTORANTET.Rankimi
       From RESTORANTET
       Where  dbo.RESTORANTET.ID_Rest=@emri_rest
       RETURN @rankimi
  END
  GO

Note that you need to call this only once, not every time you call the function. After that try calling

SELECT dbo.Afisho_rankimin1(5) AS Rankimi
