Convert UTC to local time in Rails 3

Time#localtime will give you the time in the current time zone of the machine running the code:

> moment = Time.now.utc
  => 2011-03-14 15:15:58 UTC
> moment.localtime
  => 2011-03-14 08:15:58 -0700

Update: If you want to conver to specific time zones rather than your own timezone, you're on the right track. However, instead of worrying about EST vs EDT, just pass in the general Eastern Time zone -- it will know based on the day whether it is EDT or EST:

> Time.now.utc.in_time_zone("Eastern Time (US & Canada)")
  => Mon, 14 Mar 2011 11:21:05 EDT -04:00
> (Time.now.utc + 10.months).in_time_zone("Eastern Time (US & Canada)")
  => Sat, 14 Jan 2012 10:21:18 EST -05:00

Is a slash ("/") equivalent to an encoded slash ("%2F") in the path portion of an HTTP URL

From the data you gathered, I would tend to say that encoded "/" in an uri are meant to be seen as "/" again at application/cgi level.

That's to say, that if you're using apache with mod_rewrite for instance, it will not match pattern expecting slashes against URI with encoded slashes in it. However, once the appropriate module/cgi/... is called to handle the request, it's up to it to do the decoding and, for instance, retrieve a parameter including slashes as the first component of the URI.

If your application is then using this data to retrieve a file (whose filename contains a slash), that's probably a bad thing.

To sum up, I find it perfectly normal to see a difference of behaviour in "/" or "%2F" as their interpretation will be done at different levels.

make a phone call click on a button

With permission:

Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL);
callIntent.setData(Uri.parse("tel:9875432100"));
if (ActivityCompat.checkSelfPermission(yourActivity.this,android.Manifest.permission.CALL_PHONE) != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
                if (ActivityCompat.shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale(yourActivity.this,
                        android.Manifest.permission.CALL_PHONE)) {
                } else {
                    ActivityCompat.requestPermissions(yourActivity.this,
                            new String[]{android.Manifest.permission.CALL_PHONE},
                            MY_PERMISSIONS_REQUEST_CALL_PHONE);
                }
            }
startActivity(callIntent);

Where to put the gradle.properties file

Actually there are 3 places where gradle.properties can be placed:

  1. Under gradle user home directory defined by the GRADLE_USER_HOME environment variable, which if not set defaults to USER_HOME/.gradle
  2. The sub-project directory (myProject2 in your case)
  3. The root project directory (under myProject)

Gradle looks for gradle.properties in all these places while giving precedence to properties definition based on the order above. So for example, for a property defined in gradle user home directory (#1) and the sub-project (#2) its value will be taken from gradle user home directory (#1).

You can find more details about it in gradle documentation here.

Javascript - removing undefined fields from an object

Here's a plain javascript (no library required) solution:

function removeUndefinedProps(obj) {
    for (var prop in obj) {
        if (obj.hasOwnProperty(prop) && obj[prop] === undefined) {
            delete obj[prop];
        }
    }
}

Log4j output not displayed in Eclipse console

Makes sure when running junit test cases, you have the log4j.properties or log4j.xml file in your test/resources folder.

How to display list items as columns?

You can do that using CSS3.

What is the correct format to use for Date/Time in an XML file

I always use the ISO 8601 format (e.g. 2008-10-31T15:07:38.6875000-05:00) -- date.ToString("o"). It is the XSD date format as well. That is the preferred format and a Standard Date and Time Format string, although you can use a manual format string if necessary if you don't want the 'T' between the date and time: date.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss");

EDIT: If you are using a generated class from an XSD or Web Service, you can just assign the DateTime instance directly to the class property. If you are writing XML text, then use the above.

Plot bar graph from Pandas DataFrame

To plot just a selection of your columns you can select the columns of interest by passing a list to the subscript operator:

ax = df[['V1','V2']].plot(kind='bar', title ="V comp", figsize=(15, 10), legend=True, fontsize=12)

What you tried was df['V1','V2'] this will raise a KeyError as correctly no column exists with that label, although it looks funny at first you have to consider that your are passing a list hence the double square brackets [[]].

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
ax = df[['V1','V2']].plot(kind='bar', title ="V comp", figsize=(15, 10), legend=True, fontsize=12)
ax.set_xlabel("Hour", fontsize=12)
ax.set_ylabel("V", fontsize=12)
plt.show()

How do I import from Excel to a DataSet using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel?

Have you seen this one? From http://www.aspspider.com/resources/Resource510.aspx:

public DataTable Import(String path)
{
    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook workBook = app.Workbooks.Open(path, 0, true, 5, "", "", true, Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlPlatform.xlWindows, "\t", false, false, 0, true, 1, 0);

    Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet workSheet = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet)workBook.ActiveSheet;

    int index = 0;
    object rowIndex = 2;

    DataTable dt = new DataTable();
    dt.Columns.Add("FirstName");
    dt.Columns.Add("LastName");
    dt.Columns.Add("Mobile");
    dt.Columns.Add("Landline");
    dt.Columns.Add("Email");
    dt.Columns.Add("ID");

    DataRow row;

    while (((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)workSheet.Cells[rowIndex, 1]).Value2 != null)
    {

        row = dt.NewRow();
        row[0] = Convert.ToString(((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)workSheet.Cells[rowIndex, 1]).Value2);

        row[2] = Convert.ToString(((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)workSheet.Cells[rowIndex, 3]).Value2);
        row[3] = Convert.ToString(((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)workSheet.Cells[rowIndex, 4]).Value2);
        row[4] = Convert.ToString(((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)workSheet.Cells[rowIndex, 5]).Value2);
        index++;

Scala how can I count the number of occurrences in a list

If you want to use it like list.count(2) you have to implement it using an Implicit Class.

implicit class Count[T](list: List[T]) {
  def count(n: T): Int = list.count(_ == n)
}

List(1,2,4,2,4,7,3,2,4).count(2)  // returns 3
List(1,2,4,2,4,7,3,2,4).count(5)  // returns 0

Android Min SDK Version vs. Target SDK Version

android:minSdkVersion and android:targetSdkVersion both are Integer value we need to declare in android manifest file but both are having different properties.

android:minSdkVersion: This is minimum required API level to run an android app. If we will install the same app on lower API version the parser error will be appear, and application not support problem will appear.

android:targetSdkVersion: Target sdk version is to set the Target API level of app. if this attribute not declared in manifest, minSdk version will be your TargetSdk Version. This is always true that "app support installation on all higher version of API we declared as TargetSdk Version". To make app limited target we need to declare maxSdkVersion in our manifest file...

How to study design patterns?

Practice practice practice. I think 4 to 5 books is even an excessive reading exercise without some good amount of practising. Best way to do this, I believe, is to start refactoring your current projects using the patterns. Or if you don't have any projects you're actively working on then just do it your own way and then try refactoring to patterns.

You cannot appreciate them fully if you haven't suffered through the problems they solve. And please keep in mind that they are not silver bullets - you don't need to memorize them and push it hard to apply on the fly. My two cents..

How can I start an Activity from a non-Activity class?

Once you have obtained the context in your onTap() you can also do:

Intent myIntent = new Intent(mContext, theNewActivity.class);
mContext.startActivity(myIntent);

DLL References in Visual C++

You need to do a couple of things to use the library:

  1. Make sure that you have both the *.lib and the *.dll from the library you want to use. If you don't have the *.lib, skip #2

  2. Put a reference to the *.lib in the project. Right click the project name in the Solution Explorer and then select Configuration Properties->Linker->Input and put the name of the lib in the Additional Dependencies property.

  3. You have to make sure that VS can find the lib you just added so you have to go to the Tools menu and select Options... Then under Projects and Solutions select VC++ Directories,edit Library Directory option. From within here you can set the directory that contains your new lib by selecting the 'Library Files' in the 'Show Directories For:' drop down box. Just add the path to your lib file in the list of directories. If you dont have a lib you can omit this, but while your here you will also need to set the directory which contains your header files as well under the 'Include Files'. Do it the same way you added the lib.

After doing this you should be good to go and can use your library. If you dont have a lib file you can still use the dll by importing it yourself. During your applications startup you can explicitly load the dll by calling LoadLibrary (see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms684175(VS.85).aspx for more info)

Cheers!

EDIT

Remember to use #include < Foo.h > as opposed to #include "foo.h". The former searches the include path. The latter uses the local project files.

Convert Mongoose docs to json

Late answer but you can also try this when defining your schema.

/**
 * toJSON implementation
 */
schema.options.toJSON = {
    transform: function(doc, ret, options) {
        ret.id = ret._id;
        delete ret._id;
        delete ret.__v;
        return ret;
    }
};

Note that ret is the JSON'ed object, and it's not an instance of the mongoose model. You'll operate on it right on object hashes, without getters/setters.

And then:

Model
    .findById(modelId)
    .exec(function (dbErr, modelDoc){
         if(dbErr) return handleErr(dbErr);

         return res.send(modelDoc.toJSON(), 200);
     });

Edit: Feb 2015

Because I didn't provide a solution to the missing toJSON (or toObject) method(s) I will explain the difference between my usage example and OP's usage example.

OP:

UserModel
    .find({}) // will get all users
    .exec(function(err, users) {
        // supposing that we don't have an error
        // and we had users in our collection,
        // the users variable here is an array
        // of mongoose instances;

        // wrong usage (from OP's example)
        // return res.end(users.toJSON()); // has no method toJSON

        // correct usage
        // to apply the toJSON transformation on instances, you have to
        // iterate through the users array

        var transformedUsers = users.map(function(user) {
            return user.toJSON();
        });

        // finish the request
        res.end(transformedUsers);
    });

My Example:

UserModel
    .findById(someId) // will get a single user
    .exec(function(err, user) {
        // handle the error, if any
        if(err) return handleError(err);

        if(null !== user) {
            // user might be null if no user matched
            // the given id (someId)

            // the toJSON method is available here,
            // since the user variable here is a
            // mongoose model instance
            return res.end(user.toJSON());
        }
    });

Why es6 react component works only with "export default"?

Add { } while importing and exporting: export { ... }; | import { ... } from './Template';

exportimport { ... } from './Template'

export defaultimport ... from './Template'

Here is a working example:

// ExportExample.js
import React from "react";

function DefaultExport() {
  return "This is the default export";
}

function Export1() {
  return "Export without default 1";
}

function Export2() {
  return "Export without default 2";
}

export default DefaultExport;
export { Export1, Export2 };

// App.js
import React from "react";
import DefaultExport, { Export1, Export2 } from "./ExportExample";

export default function App() {
  return (
    <>
      <strong>
        <DefaultExport />
      </strong>
      <br />
      <Export1 />
      <br />
      <Export2 />
    </>
  );
}

Getting rid of \n when using .readlines()

I recently used this to read all the lines from a file:

alist = open('maze.txt').read().split()

or you can use this for that little bit of extra added safety:

with f as open('maze.txt'):
    alist = f.read().split()

It doesn't work with whitespace in-between text in a single line, but it looks like your example file might not have whitespace splitting the values. It is a simple solution and it returns an accurate list of values, and does not add an empty string: '' for every empty line, such as a newline at the end of the file.

jQuery autohide element after 5 seconds

You use setTimeout on you runEffect function :

function runEffect() {
    setTimeout(function(){
        var selectedEffect = 'blind';
        var options = {};
        $("#successMessage").hide(selectedEffect, options, 500)
     }, 5000);
}

jQuery won't parse my JSON from AJAX query

I had this issue and for a bit I used

eval('('+data+')')

to get the data returned in an object. but then later had other issues getting a 'missing ) in parenthetical' error and found out that jQuery has a function specifically for evaluating a string for a json structure:

$.parseJSON(data)

should do the trick. This is in addition to having your json string in the proper format of course..

How to add \newpage in Rmarkdown in a smart way?

You can make the pagebreak conditional on knitting to PDF. This worked for me.

```{r, results='asis', eval=(opts_knit$get('rmarkdown.pandoc.to') == 'latex')}
cat('\\pagebreak')
If you are building a large application with many routes, you should make sure that you are running the route:cache Artisan command during your deployment process:
php artisan route:cache
This command reduces all of your route registrations into a single method call within a cached file, improving the performance of route registration when registering hundreds of routes.
Since this feature uses PHP serialization, you may only cache the routes for applications that exclusively use controller based routes. PHP is not able to serialize Closures.
Laravel 5 clear cache from route, view, config and all cache data from application
I would like to share my experience and solution. when i was working on my laravel e commerce website with gitlab. I was fetching one issue suddenly my view cache with error during development. i did try lot to refresh and something other but i can't see any more change in my view, but at last I did resolve my problem using laravel command so, let's see i added several command for clear cache from view, route, config etc.
Reoptimized class loader:
php artisan optimize
Clear Cache facade value:
php artisan cache:clear
Clear Route cache:
php artisan route:cache
Clear View cache:
php artisan view:clear
Clear Config cache:
php artisan config:cache
How to use Collections.sort() in Java?
Use the method that accepts a Comparator when you want to sort in something other than natural order.
Collections.sort(List, Comparator)
python - find index position in list based of partial string
Your idea to use enumerate() was correct.
indices = []
for i, elem in enumerate(mylist):
    if 'aa' in elem:
        indices.append(i)
Alternatively, as a list comprehension:
indices = [i for i, elem in enumerate(mylist) if 'aa' in elem]
ImportError: No module named sklearn.cross_validation
I guess cross selection is not active anymore. We should use instead model selection. You can write it to run, from sklearn.model_selection import train_test_split
Thats it.
How do I ignore a directory with SVN?
If your project directory is named /Project, and your cache directory is named /Project/Cache, then you need to set a subversion property on /Project. The property name should be "svn:ignore" and the property value should be "Cache".
Refer to this page in the Subversion manual for more on properties.
invalid conversion from 'const char*' to 'char*'
string::c.str() returns a string of type const char * as seen here
A quick fix: try casting printfunc(num,addr,(char *)data.str().c_str());
While the above may work, it is undefined behaviour, and unsafe.
Here's a nicer solution using templates:
char * my_argument = const_cast<char*> ( ...c_str() );
I'd suggest installing something like GNU Utilities for Win32. It has most favourites, including tail.
What are the most common font-sizes for H1-H6 tags
Headings are normally bold-faced; that has been turned off for this demonstration of size correspondence. MSIE and Opera interpret these sizes the same, but note that Gecko browsers and Chrome interpret Heading 6 as 11 pixels instead of 10 pixels/font size 1, and Heading 3 as 19 pixels instead of 18 pixels/font size 4 (though it's difficult to tell the difference even in a direct comparison and impossible in use). It seems Gecko also limits text to no smaller than 10 pixels.
Difference between 'cls' and 'self' in Python classes?
It's used in case of a class method. Check this reference for further details.
EDIT: As clarified by Adrien, it's a convention. You can actually use anything but cls and self are used (PEP8).
Throwing exceptions in a PHP Try Catch block
Just remove the throw from the catch block — change it to an echo or otherwise handle the error.
It's not telling you that objects can only be thrown in the catch block, it's telling you that only objects can be thrown, and the location of the error is in the catch block — there is a difference.
In the catch block you are trying to throw something you just caught — which in this context makes little sense anyway — and the thing you are trying to throw is a string.
A real-world analogy of what you are doing is catching a ball, then trying to throw just the manufacturer's logo somewhere else. You can only throw a whole object, not a property of the object.
Code for a simple JavaScript countdown timer?
Here is another one if anyone needs one for minutes and seconds:
    var mins = 10;  //Set the number of minutes you need
    var secs = mins * 60;
    var currentSeconds = 0;
    var currentMinutes = 0;
    /*
     * setTimeout('Decrement()',1000);
     */
    setTimeout(Decrement,1000);
    function Decrement() {
        currentMinutes = Math.floor(secs / 60);
        currentSeconds = secs % 60;
        if(currentSeconds <= 9) currentSeconds = "0" + currentSeconds;
        secs--;
        document.getElementById("timerText").innerHTML = currentMinutes + ":" + currentSeconds; //Set the element id you need the time put into.
        if(secs !== -1) setTimeout('Decrement()',1000);
    }
how to use "AND", "OR" for RewriteCond on Apache?
After many struggles and to achive a general, flexible and more readable solution, in my case I ended up saving the ORs results into ENV variables and doing the ANDs of those variables.
RewriteCond ...B...
RewriteRule ^ - [E=RESULT_ONE:True]
How do I get SUM function in MySQL to return '0' if no values are found?
Use IFNULL or COALESCE:
SELECT IFNULL(SUM(Column1), 0) AS total FROM...
SELECT COALESCE(SUM(Column1), 0) AS total FROM...
The difference between them is that IFNULL is a MySQL extension that takes two arguments, and COALESCE is a standard SQL function that can take one or more arguments. When you only have two arguments using IFNULL is slightly faster, though here the difference is insignificant since it is only called once.
OperationalError: database is locked
If you get this error while using manage.py shell, one possible reason is that you have a development server running (manage.py runserver) which is locking the database. Stoping the server while using the shell has always fixed the problem for me.
Get a specific bit from byte
Easy. Use a bitwise AND to compare your number with the value 2^bitNumber, which can be cheaply calculated by bit-shifting.
//your black magic
var bit = (b & (1 << bitNumber-1)) != 0;
EDIT: To add a little more detail because there are a lot of similar answers with no explanation:
A bitwise AND compares each number, bit-by-bit, using an AND join to produce a number that is the combination of bits where both the first bit and second bit in that place were set. Here's the logic matrix of AND logic in a "nibble" that shows the operation of a bitwise AND:
  0101
& 0011
  ----
  0001 //Only the last bit is set, because only the last bit of both summands were set
In your case, we compare the number you passed with a number that has only the bit you want to look for set. Let's say you're looking for the fourth bit:
  11010010
& 00001000
  --------
  00000000 //== 0, so the bit is not set
  11011010
& 00001000
  --------
  00001000 //!= 0, so the bit is set
Bit-shifting, to produce the number we want to compare against, is exactly what it sounds like: take the number, represented as a set of bits, and shift those bits left or right by a certain number of places. Because these are binary numbers and so each bit is one greater power-of-two than the one to its right, bit-shifting to the left is equivalent to doubling the number once for each place that is shifted, equivalent to multiplying the number by 2^x. In your example, looking for the fourth bit, we perform:
       1 (2^0) << (4-1) ==        8 (2^3)
00000001       << (4-1) == 00001000
Now you know how it's done, what's going on at the low level, and why it works.
JavaScript - Use variable in string match
You have to use RegExp object if your pattern is string
var xxx = "victoria";
var yyy = "i";
var rgxp = new RegExp(yyy, "g");
alert(xxx.match(rgxp).length);
If pattern is not dynamic string:
var xxx = "victoria";
var yyy = /i/g;
alert(xxx.match(yyy).length);
Convert Python dict into a dataframe
In my case I wanted keys and values of a dict to be columns and values of DataFrame. So the only thing that worked for me was:
data = {'adjust_power': 'y', 'af_policy_r_submix_prio_adjust': '[null]', 'af_rf_info': '[null]', 'bat_ac': '3500', 'bat_capacity': '75'}
columns = list(data.keys())
values = list(data.values())
arr_len = len(values)
pd.DataFrame(np.array(values, dtype=object).reshape(1, arr_len), columns=columns)
jQuery show/hide options from one select drop down, when option on other select dropdown is slected
And in 2016.....I do this (which works in all browsers and does not create "illegal" html).
For the drop-down select that is to show/hide different values add that value as a data attribute.
<select id="animal">
    <option value="1" selected="selected">Dog</option>
    <option value="2">Cat</option>
</select>
<select id="name">
    <option value=""></option>
    <option value="1" data-attribute="1">Rover</option>
    <option value="2" selected="selected" data-attribute="1">Lassie</option>
    <option value="3" data-attribute="1">Spot</option>
    <option value="4" data-attribute="2">Tiger</option>
    <option value="5" data-attribute="2">Fluffy</option>
</select>
Then in your jQuery add a change event to the first drop-down select to filter the second drop-down.
$("#animal").change( function() {
    filterSelectOptions($("#name"), "data-attribute", $(this).val());
});
And the magic part is this little jQuery utility.
function filterSelectOptions(selectElement, attributeName, attributeValue) {
    if (selectElement.data("currentFilter") != attributeValue) {
        selectElement.data("currentFilter", attributeValue);
        var originalHTML = selectElement.data("originalHTML");
        if (originalHTML)
            selectElement.html(originalHTML)
        else {
            var clone = selectElement.clone();
            clone.children("option[selected]").removeAttr("selected");
            selectElement.data("originalHTML", clone.html());
        }
        if (attributeValue) {
            selectElement.children("option:not([" + attributeName + "='" + attributeValue + "'],:not([" + attributeName + "]))").remove();
        }
    }
}
This little gem tracks the current filter, if different it restores the original select (all items) and then removes the filtered items. If the filter item is empty we see all items.
How to generate random number in Bash?
Generate random number in the range of 0 to n (signed 16-bit integer). Result set in $RAND variable. For example:
#!/bin/bash
    local range=${1:-1}
    RAND=`od -t uI -N 4 /dev/urandom | awk '{print $2}'`
    let "RAND=$RAND%($range+1)"
}
n=10
while [ $(( n -=1 )) -ge "0" ]; do
    random 500
Switch on Enum in Java
You definitely can switch on enums. An example posted from the Java tutorials.
public enum Day {
    SUNDAY, MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY,
    THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY
}
public class EnumTest {
    Day day;
    public EnumTest(Day day) {
        this.day = day;
    }
    public void tellItLikeItIs() {
        switch (day) {
            case MONDAY:
                System.out.println("Mondays are bad.");
                break;
            case FRIDAY:
                System.out.println("Fridays are better.");
                break;
            case SATURDAY:
            case SUNDAY:
                System.out.println("Weekends are best.");
                break;
            default:
                System.out.println("Midweek days are so-so.");
                break;
        }
    }
}
        System.out.println("Enter the element that is to be added:");
        myArray = myList.toArray(myArray);
        someFunction(myArray);
        }
    public static void someFunction(String[] strArray)
    {
        System.out.println("in function");
        System.out.println("in function length"+strArray.length );
        System.out.println(Arrays.toString(strArray));
           }
        }
just copy it and past... your code.. it will work.. and then you understand how to pass string array as a parameter ...
Thank you
Converting a string to a date in DB2
Based on your own answer, I'm guessing that your column has data formatted like this:
'DD/MM/YYYY HH:MI:SS'
The actual separators between Day/Month/Year don't matter, nor does anything that comes after the year.
You don't say what version of DB2 you are using or what platform it's running on, so I'm going to assume that it's on Linux, UNIX or Windows.
Almost any recent version of DB2 for Linux/UNIX/Windows (8.2 or later, possibly even older versions), you can do this using the TRANSLATE function:
select
   date(translate('GHIJ-DE-AB',column_with_date,'ABCDEFGHIJ'))
from
   yourtable
With this solution it doesn't matter what comes after the date in your column.
In DB2 9.7, you can also use the TO_DATE function (similar to Oracle's TO_DATE):
date(to_date(column_with_date,'DD-MM-YYYY HH:MI:SS'))
This requires your data match the formatting string; it's easier to understand when looking at it, but not as flexible as the TRANSLATE option.
JavaScript backslash (\) in variables is causing an error
The backslash (\) is an escape character in Javascript (along with a lot of other C-like languages). This means that when Javascript encounters a backslash, it tries to escape the following character. For instance, \n is a newline character (rather than a backslash followed by the letter n).
In order to output a literal backslash, you need to escape it. That means \\ will output a single backslash (and \\\\ will output two, and so on). The reason "aa ///\" doesn't work is because the backslash escapes the " (which will print a literal quote), and thus your string is not properly terminated. Similarly, "aa ///\\\" won't work, because the last backslash again escapes the quote.
Just remember, for each backslash you want to output, you need to give Javascript two.
Change user-agent for Selenium web-driver
To build on Louis's helpful answer...
Setting the User Agent in PhantomJS
from selenium import webdriver
from selenium.webdriver.common.desired_capabilities import DesiredCapabilities
...
caps = DesiredCapabilities.PHANTOMJS
caps["phantomjs.page.settings.userAgent"] = "whatever you want"
driver = webdriver.PhantomJS(desired_capabilities=caps)
The only minor issue is that, unlike for Firefox and Chrome, this does not return your custom setting:
driver.execute_script("return navigator.userAgent")
So, if anyone figures out how to do that in PhantomJS, please edit my answer or add a comment below! Cheers.
SQL grouping by month and year
If I understand correctly. In order to group your results as requested, your Group By clause needs to have the same expression as your select statement.
GROUP BY MONTH(date) + '.' + YEAR(date)
To display the date as "month-date" format change the '.' to '-' The full syntax would be something like this.
SELECT MONTH(date) + '-' + YEAR(date) AS Mjesec, SUM(marketingExpense) AS
SumaMarketing, SUM(revenue) AS SumaZarada
FROM [Order]
WHERE (idCustomer = 1) AND (date BETWEEN '2001-11-3' AND '2011-11-3')
GROUP BY MONTH(date) + '.' + YEAR(date)
How to cache Google map tiles for offline usage?
Unfortunately, I found this link which appears to indicate that we cannot cache these locally, therefore making this question moot.
http://support.google.com/enterprise/doc/gme/terms/maps_purchase_agreement.html
4.4 Cache Restrictions. Customer may not pre-fetch, retrieve, cache, index, or store any Content, or portion of the Services with the exception being Customer may store limited amounts of Content solely to improve the performance of the Customer Implementation due to network latency, and only if Customer does so temporarily, securely, and in a manner that (a) does not permit use of the Content outside of the Services; (b) is session-based only (once the browser is closed, any additional storage is prohibited); (c) does not manipulate or aggregate any Content or portion of the Services; (d) does not prevent Google from accurately tracking Page Views; and (e) does not modify or adjust attribution in any way.
So it appears we cannot use Google map tiles offline, legally.
Implements vs extends: When to use? What's the difference?
I notice you have some C++ questions in your profile. If you understand the concept of multiple-inheritance from C++ (referring to classes that inherit characteristics from more than one other class), Java does not allow this, but it does have keyword interface, which is sort of like a pure virtual class in C++. As mentioned by lots of people, you extend a class (and you can only extend from one), and you implement an interface -- but your class can implement as many interfaces as you like.
Ie, these keywords and the rules governing their use delineate the possibilities for multiple-inheritance in Java (you can only have one super class, but you can implement multiple interfaces).
Escaping ampersand character in SQL string
Instead of
node_name = 'Geometric Vectors \& Matrices'
use
node_name = 'Geometric Vectors ' || chr(38) || ' Matrices'
38 is the ascii code for ampersand, and in this form it will be interpreted as a string, nothing else. I tried it and it worked.
Another way could be using LIKE and an underline instead the '&' character:
node_name LIKE 'Geometric Vectors _ Matrices'
The chance that you'll find some other record too, which is different in only this one character, is quite low.
Arduino Nano - "avrdude: ser_open():system can't open device "\\.\COM1": the system cannot find the file specified"
I was having this same issue this morning. When I checked my Device Manager, it showed COM4 properly, and when I checked in the Arduino IDE COM4 just wasn't an option. Only COM1 was listed.
I tried unplugging and plugging my Arduino in and out a couple more times and eventually COM4 showed up again in the IDE. I didn't have to change any settings.
Hopefully that helps somebody.
TypeError: Missing 1 required positional argument: 'self'
You can call the method like pump.getPumps(). By adding @classmethod decorator on the method. A class method receives the class as the implicit first argument, just like an instance method receives the instance.
class Pump:
def __init__(self):
    print ("init") # never prints
@classmethod
def getPumps(cls):
            # Open database connection
            # some stuff here that never gets executed because of error
So, simply call Pump.getPumps() .
In java, it is termed as static method.
Create parameterized VIEW in SQL Server 2008
in fact there exists one trick:
where
spid = @@spid)
... in sql-query:
select * from view_test
will be the same with
select * from table where id = 2
but using udf is more acceptable
How to create Python egg file
For #4, the closest thing to starting java with a jar file for your app is a new feature in Python 2.6, executable zip files and directories.
python myapp.zip
Where myapp.zip is a zip containing a __main__.py file which is executed as the script file to be executed. Your package dependencies can also be included in the file:
__main__.py
mypackage/__init__.py
mypackage/someliblibfile.py
You can also execute an egg, but the incantation is not as nice:
# Bourn Shell and derivatives (Linux/OSX/Unix)
PYTHONPATH=myapp.egg python -m myapp
rem Windows
set PYTHONPATH=myapp.egg
python -m myapp
This puts the myapp.egg on the Python path and uses the -m argument to run a module. Your myapp.egg will likely look something like:
myapp/__init__.py
myapp/somelibfile.py
And python will run __init__.py (you should check that __file__=='__main__' in your app for command line use).
Egg files are just zip files so you might be able to add __main__.py to your egg with a zip tool and make it executable in python 2.6 and run it like python myapp.egg instead of the above incantation where the PYTHONPATH environment variable is set.
More information on executable zip files including how to make them directly executable with a shebang can be found on Michael Foord's blog post on the subject.
Python OpenCV2 (cv2) wrapper to get image size?
I'm afraid there is no "better" way to get this size, however it's not that much pain.
Of course your code should be safe for both binary/mono images as well as multi-channel ones, but the principal dimensions of the image always come first in the numpy array's shape. If you opt for readability, or don't want to bother typing this, you can wrap it up in a function, and give it a name you like, e.g. cv_size:
import numpy as np
import cv2
# ...
def cv_size(img):
    return tuple(img.shape[1::-1])
If you're on a terminal / ipython, you can also express it with a lambda:
>>> cv_size = lambda img: tuple(img.shape[1::-1])
>>> cv_size(img)
(640, 480)
Writing functions with def is not fun while working interactively.
Edit
Originally I thought that using [:2] was OK, but the numpy shape is (height, width[, depth]), and we need (width, height), as e.g. cv2.resize expects, so - we must use [1::-1]. Even less memorable than [:2]. And who remembers reverse slicing anyway?
How to select element using XPATH syntax on Selenium for Python?
HTML
<div id='a'>
  <div>
    <a class='click'>abc</a>
  </div>
</div>
You could use the XPATH as :
//div[@id='a']//a[@class='click']
output
<a class="click">abc</a>
That said your Python code should be as :
driver.find_element_by_xpath("//div[@id='a']//a[@class='click']")
Immutable vs Mutable types
The simplest answer:
A mutable variable is one whose value may change in place, whereas in an immutable variable change of value will not happen in place. Modifying an immutable variable will rebuild the same variable.
Example:
>>>x = 5
Will create a value 5 referenced by x
x -> 5
>>>y = x
This statement will make y refer to 5 of x
x -------------> 5 <-----------y
>>>x = x + y
As x being an integer (immutable type) has been rebuild.
In the statement, the expression on RHS will result into value 10 and when this is assigned to LHS (x), x will rebuild to 10. So now
x--------->10
y--------->5
redirect COPY of stdout to log file from within bash script itself
Using the accepted answer my script kept returning exceptionally early (right after 'exec > >(tee ...)') leaving the rest of my script running in the background. As I couldn't get that solution to work my way I found another solution/work around to the problem:
# Logging setup
logfile=mylogfile
mkfifo ${logfile}.pipe
tee < ${logfile}.pipe $logfile &
exec &> ${logfile}.pipe
rm ${logfile}.pipe
# Rest of my script
This makes output from script go from the process, through the pipe into the sub background process of 'tee' that logs everything to disc and to original stdout of the script.
Note that 'exec &>' redirects both stdout and stderr, we could redirect them separately if we like, or change to 'exec >' if we just want stdout.
Even thou the pipe is removed from the file system in the beginning of the script it will continue to function until the processes finishes. We just can't reference it using the file name after the rm-line.
Android Studio: Add jar as library?
In Android Studio 2.1 I follow the this way,
Goto app -> src-> main -> assets folder (If not available create it) -> put your JAR files
enter image description here
In your build.gradle add dependency like this,
implementation files('src/main/assets/jsoup.jar')
implementation files('src/main/assets/org-apache-xmlrpc.jar')
implementation files('src/main/assets/org.apache.commons.httpclient.jar')
implementation files('src/main/assets/ws-commons-util-1.0.2.jar')
Sync now. Now your JAR files ready to use.
Want to make Font Awesome icons clickable
In your css add a class:
.fa-clickable {
    cursor:pointer;
    outline:none;
}
Then add the class to the clickable fontawesome icons (also an id so you can differentiate the clicks):
 <i class="fa fa-dribbble fa-4x fa-clickable" id="epd-dribble"></i>
 <i class="fa fa-behance-square fa-4x fa-clickable" id="epd-behance"></i>
 <i class="fa fa-linkedin-square fa-4x fa-clickable" id="epd-linkedin"></i>
 <i class="fa fa-twitter-square fa-4x fa-clickable" id="epd-twitter"></i>
 <i class="fa fa-facebook-square fa-4x fa-clickable" id="epd-facebook"></i>
Then add a handler in your jQuery
$(document).on("click", "i", function(){
    switch (this.id) {
        case "epd-dribble":
            // do stuff
            break;
        // add additional cases
    }
});
Clicking HTML 5 Video element to play, pause video, breaks play button
I had countless issues doing this but finally came up with a solution that works.
Basically the code below is adding a click handler to the video but ignoring all the clicks on the lower part (0.82 is arbitrary but seems to work on all sizes).
    $("video").click(function(e){
        // get click position
        var clickY = (e.pageY - $(this).offset().top);
        var height = parseFloat( $(this).height() );
        // avoids interference with controls
        if(y > 0.82*height) return;
        // toggles play / pause
        this.paused ? this.play() : this.pause();
    });
Can HTTP POST be limitless?
EDIT (2019) This answer is now pretty redundant but there is another answer with more relevant information.
It rather depends on the web server and web browser:
Internet explorer All versions 2GB-1
Mozilla Firefox All versions 2GB-1
IIS 1-5 2GB-1
IIS 6 4GB-1
Although IIS only support 200KB by default, the metabase needs amending to increase this.
http://www.motobit.com/help/scptutl/pa98.htm
The POST method itself does not have any limit on the size of data.
Package structure for a Java project?
Regex how to match an optional character
Use
[A-Z]?
to make the letter optional. {1} is redundant. (Of course you could also write [A-Z]{0,1} which would mean the same, but that's what the ? is there for.)
You could improve your regex to
^([0-9]{5})+\s+([A-Z]?)\s+([A-Z])([0-9]{3})([0-9]{3})([A-Z]{3})([A-Z]{3})\s+([A-Z])[0-9]{3}([0-9]{4})([0-9]{2})([0-9]{2})
And, since in most regex dialects, \d is the same as [0-9]:
^(\d{5})+\s+([A-Z]?)\s+([A-Z])(\d{3})(\d{3})([A-Z]{3})([A-Z]{3})\s+([A-Z])\d{3}(\d{4})(\d{2})(\d{2})
But: do you really need 11 separate capturing groups? And if so, why don't you capture the fourth-to-last group of digits?
Computational complexity of Fibonacci Sequence
There's a very nice discussion of this specific problem over at MIT. On page 5, they make the point that, if you assume that an addition takes one computational unit, the time required to compute Fib(N) is very closely related to the result of Fib(N).
As a result, you can skip directly to the very close approximation of the Fibonacci series:
Fib(N) = (1/sqrt(5)) * 1.618^(N+1) (approximately)
and say, therefore, that the worst case performance of the naive algorithm is
O((1/sqrt(5)) * 1.618^(N+1)) = O(1.618^(N+1))
PS: There is a discussion of the closed form expression of the Nth Fibonacci number over at Wikipedia if you'd like more information.
How to turn on front flash light programmatically in Android?
For this problem you should:
  1. Check whether the flashlight is available or not?
  2. If so then Turn Off/On
  3. If not then you can do whatever, according to your app needs.
For Checking availability of flash in the device:
You can use the following:
 context.getPackageManager().hasSystemFeature(PackageManager.FEATURE_CAMERA_FLASH);
which will return true if a flash is available, false if not.
See:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/pm/PackageManager.html for more information.
For turning on/off flashlight:
I googled out and got this about android.permission.FLASHLIGHT. Android manifests' permission looks promising:
 <!-- Allows access to the flashlight -->
 <permission android:name="android.permission.FLASHLIGHT"
             android:permissionGroup="android.permission-group.HARDWARE_CONTROLS"
             android:protectionLevel="normal"
             android:label="@string/permlab_flashlight"
             android:description="@string/permdesc_flashlight" />
Then make use of Camera and set Camera.Parameters. The main parameter used here is FLASH_MODE_TORCH.
eg.
Code Snippet to turn on camera flashlight.
Camera cam = Camera.open();
Parameters p = cam.getParameters();
p.setFlashMode(Parameters.FLASH_MODE_TORCH);
cam.setParameters(p);
cam.startPreview();
Code snippet to turn off camera led light.
  cam.stopPreview();
  cam.release();
I just found a project that uses this permission. Check quick-settings' src code. here http://code.google.com/p/quick-settings/ (Note: This link is now broken)
For Flashlight directly look http://code.google.com/p/quick-settings/source/browse/trunk/quick-settings/#quick-settings/src/com/bwx/bequick/flashlight (Note: This link is now broken)
MongoDB "root" user
While out of the box, MongoDb has no authentication, you can create the equivalent of a root/superuser by using the "any" roles to a specific user to the admin database.
Something like this:
use admin
db.addUser( { user: "<username>",
          pwd: "<password>",
          roles: [ "userAdminAnyDatabase",
                   "dbAdminAnyDatabase",
                   "readWriteAnyDatabase"
] } )
Update for 2.6+
While there is a new root user in 2.6, you may find that it doesn't meet your needs, as it still has a few limitations:
Provides access to the operations and all the resources of the readWriteAnyDatabase, dbAdminAnyDatabase, userAdminAnyDatabase and clusterAdmin roles combined.
root does not include any access to collections that begin with the system. prefix.
Update for 3.0+
Use db.createUser as db.addUser was removed.
Update for 3.0.7+
root no longer has the limitations stated above.
The root has the validate privilege action on system. collections. Previously, root does not include any access to collections that begin with the system. prefix other than system.indexes and system.namespaces.
How to suppress Pandas Future warning ?
@bdiamante's answer may only partially help you. If you still get a message after you've suppressed warnings, it's because the pandas library itself is printing the message. There's not much you can do about it unless you edit the Pandas source code yourself. Maybe there's an option internally to suppress them, or a way to override things, but I couldn't find one.
For those who need to know why...
Suppose that you want to ensure a clean working environment. At the top of your script, you put pd.reset_option('all'). With Pandas 0.23.4, you get the following:
>>> import pandas as pd
>>> pd.reset_option('all')
html.border has been deprecated, use display.html.border instead
(currently both are identical)
C:\projects\stackoverflow\venv\lib\site-packages\pandas\core\config.py:619: FutureWarning: html.bord
er has been deprecated, use display.html.border instead
(currently both are identical)
  warnings.warn(d.msg, FutureWarning)
: boolean
    use_inf_as_null had been deprecated and will be removed in a future
    version. Use `use_inf_as_na` instead.
C:\projects\stackoverflow\venv\lib\site-packages\pandas\core\config.py:619: FutureWarning:
: boolean
    use_inf_as_null had been deprecated and will be removed in a future
    version. Use `use_inf_as_na` instead.
  warnings.warn(d.msg, FutureWarning)
>>>
Following the @bdiamante's advice, you use the warnings library. Now, true to it's word, the warnings have been removed. However, several pesky messages remain:
>>> import warnings
>>> warnings.simplefilter(action='ignore', category=FutureWarning)
>>> import pandas as pd
>>> pd.reset_option('all')
html.border has been deprecated, use display.html.border instead
(currently both are identical)
: boolean
    use_inf_as_null had been deprecated and will be removed in a future
    version. Use `use_inf_as_na` instead.
>>>
In fact, disabling all warnings produces the same output:
>>> import warnings
>>> warnings.simplefilter(action='ignore', category=Warning)
>>> import pandas as pd
>>> pd.reset_option('all')
html.border has been deprecated, use display.html.border instead
(currently both are identical)
: boolean
    use_inf_as_null had been deprecated and will be removed in a future
    version. Use `use_inf_as_na` instead.
>>>
In the standard library sense, these aren't true warnings. Pandas implements its own warnings system. Running grep -rn on the warning messages shows that the pandas warning system is implemented in core/config_init.py:
$ grep -rn "html.border has been deprecated"
core/config_init.py:207:html.border has been deprecated, use display.html.border instead
Further chasing shows that I don't have time for this. And you probably don't either. Hopefully this saves you from falling down the rabbit hole or perhaps inspires someone to figure out how to truly suppress these messages!
How to join on multiple columns in Pyspark?
An alternative approach would be:
df1 = sqlContext.createDataFrame(
    [(1, "a", 2.0), (2, "b", 3.0), (3, "c", 3.0)],
    ("x1", "x2", "x3"))
df2 = sqlContext.createDataFrame(
    [(1, "f", -1.0), (2, "b", 0.0)], ("x1", "x2", "x4"))
df = df1.join(df2, ['x1','x2'])
df.show()
which outputs:
+---+---+---+---+
| x1| x2| x3| x4|
+---+---+---+---+
|  2|  b|3.0|0.0|
+---+---+---+---+
With the main advantage being that the columns on which the tables are joined are not duplicated in the output, reducing the risk of encountering errors such as org.apache.spark.sql.AnalysisException: Reference 'x1' is ambiguous, could be: x1#50L, x1#57L.
Whenever the columns in the two tables have different names, (let's say in the example above, df2 has the columns y1, y2 and y4), you could use the following syntax:
df = df1.join(df2.withColumnRenamed('y1','x1').withColumnRenamed('y2','x2'), ['x1','x2'])
How to send a Post body in the HttpClient request in Windows Phone 8?
This depends on what content do you have. You need to initialize your requestMessage.Content property with new HttpContent. For example:
...
// Add request body
if (isPostRequest)
{
    requestMessage.Content = new ByteArrayContent(content);
}
...
where content is your encoded content. You also should include correct Content-type header.
UPDATE:
Oh, it can be even nicer (from this answer):
requestMessage.Content = new StringContent("{\"name\":\"John Doe\",\"age\":33}", Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");
Order columns through Bootstrap4
Since column-ordering doesn't work in Bootstrap 4 beta as described in the code provided in the revisited answer above, you would need to use the following (as indicated in the codeply 4 Flexbox order demo - alpha/beta links that were provided in the answer).
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
    <div class="col-3 col-md-6">
        <div class="card card-block">1</div>
    </div>
    <div class="col-6 col-md-12  flex-md-last">
        <div class="card card-block">3</div>
    </div>
    <div class="col-3 col-md-6 ">
        <div class="card card-block">2</div>
    </div>
</div>
Note however that the "Flexbox order demo - beta" goes to an alpha codebase, and changing the codebase to Beta (and running it) results in the divs incorrectly displaying in a single column -- but that looks like a codeply issue since cutting and pasting the code out of codeply works as described.
Actual meaning of 'shell=True' in subprocess
Executing programs through the shell means that all user input passed to the program is interpreted according to the syntax and semantic rules of the invoked shell. At best, this only causes inconvenience to the user, because the user has to obey these rules. For instance, paths containing special shell characters like quotation marks or blanks must be escaped. At worst, it causes security leaks, because the user can execute arbitrary programs.
shell=True is sometimes convenient to make use of specific shell features like word splitting or parameter expansion. However, if such a feature is required, make use of other modules are given to you (e.g. os.path.expandvars() for parameter expansion or shlex for word splitting). This means more work, but avoids other problems.
In short: Avoid shell=True by all means.
Angular HttpPromise: difference between `success`/`error` methods and `then`'s arguments
then:
$http.get('/someURL')
.then(function(response) {
    // success handler
}, function(response) {
    // error handler
})
.then(function(response) {
    // success handler
}, function(response) {
    // error handler
})
.then(function(response) {
    // success handler
}, function(response) {
    // error handler
}).
default value for struct member in C
you can not do it in this way
Use the following instead
typedef struct
{
   int id;
   char* name;
}employee;
employee emp = {
.id = 0,
.name = "none"
};
You can use macro to define and initialize your instances. this will make easiier to you each time you want to define new instance and initialize it.
typedef struct
{
   int id;
   char* name;
}employee;
#define INIT_EMPLOYEE(X) employee X = {.id = 0, .name ="none"}
and in your code when you need to define new instance with employee type, you just call this macro like:
INIT_EMPLOYEE(emp);
For example this is used in the webapp2.Route where you can either use a handler or a string.
I had the same issue which was caused due to crash shutdown of my windows 10. Earlier in the path I had Oracle path ie the path inserted by Oracle at the time of installation of JDK. I removed it and changed the path to the JDK location. This solved the problem.
SQL to LINQ Tool
I know that this isn't what you asked for but LINQPad is a really great tool to teach yourself LINQ (and it's free :o).
When time isn't critical, I have been using it for the last week or so instead or a query window in SQL Server and my LINQ skills are getting better and better.
It's also a nice little code snippet tool. Its only downside is that the free version doesn't have IntelliSense.
Flutter - Wrap text on overflow, like insert ellipsis or fade
There are many answers but Will some more observation it.
1. clip
Clip the overflowing text to fix its container.
SizedBox(
          width: 120.0,
          child: Text(
            "Enter Long Text",
            maxLines: 1,
            overflow: TextOverflow.clip,
            softWrap: false,
            style: TextStyle(color: Colors.black, fontWeight: FontWeight.bold, fontSize: 20.0),
          ),
        ),
Output:
enter image description here
2.fade
Fade the overflowing text to transparent.
SizedBox(
          width: 120.0,
          child: Text(
            "Enter Long Text",
            maxLines: 1,
            overflow: TextOverflow.fade,
            softWrap: false,
            style: TextStyle(color: Colors.black, fontWeight: FontWeight.bold, fontSize: 20.0),
          ),
        ),
Output:
enter image description here
3.ellipsis
Use an ellipsis to indicate that the text has overflowed.
SizedBox(
          width: 120.0,
          child: Text(
            "Enter Long Text",
            maxLines: 1,
            overflow: TextOverflow.ellipsis,
            softWrap: false,
            style: TextStyle(color: Colors.black, fontWeight: FontWeight.bold, fontSize: 20.0),
          ),
        ),
Output:
enter image description here
4.visible
Render overflowing text outside of its container.
SizedBox(
          width: 120.0,
          child: Text(
            "Enter Long Text",
            maxLines: 1,
            overflow: TextOverflow.visible,
            softWrap: false,
            style: TextStyle(color: Colors.black, fontWeight: FontWeight.bold, fontSize: 20.0),
          ),
        ),
Output:
Clear screen in shell
Here's how to make your very own cls or clear command that will work without explicitly calling any function!
We'll take advantage of the fact that the python console calls repr() to display objects on screen. This is especially useful if you have your own customized python shell (with the -i option for example) and you have a pre-loading script for it. This is what you need:
import os
class ScreenCleaner:
    def __repr__(self):
        os.system('cls')  # This actually clears the screen
        return ''  # Because that's what repr() likes
cls = ScreenCleaner()
Use clear instead of cls if you're on linux (in both the os command and the variable name)!
Now if you just write cls or clear in the console - it will clear it! Not even cls() or clear() - just the raw variable. This is because python will call repr(cls) to print it out, which will in turn trigger our __repr__ function.
Let's test it out:
>>> df;sag
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
NameError: name 'df' is not defined
>>> sglknas
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
NameError: name 'sglknas' is not defined
>>> lksnldn
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
NameError: name 'lksnldn' is not defined
>>> cls
And the screen is clear!
To clarify - the code above needs to either be imported in the console like this
from somefile import cls
Or pre load directly with something like:
python -i my_pre_loaded_classes.py
Set the intervals of x-axis using r
You can use axis:
> axis(side=1, at=c(0:23))
That is, something like this:
plot(0:23, d, type='b', axes=FALSE)
axis(side=1, at=c(0:23))
axis(side=2, at=seq(0, 600, by=100))
box()
How to get all files under a specific directory in MATLAB?
I used the code mentioned in this great answer and expanded it to support 2 additional parameters which I needed in my case. The parameters are file extensions to filter on and a flag indicating whether to concatenate the full path to the name of the file or not.
I hope it is clear enough and someone will finds it beneficial.
function fileList = getAllFiles(dirName, fileExtension, appendFullPath)
  dirData = dir([dirName '/' fileExtension]);      %# Get the data for the current directory
  dirWithSubFolders = dir(dirName);
  dirIndex = [dirWithSubFolders.isdir];  %# Find the index for directories
  fileList = {dirData.name}';  %'# Get a list of the files
  if ~isempty(fileList)
    if appendFullPath
      fileList = cellfun(@(x) fullfile(dirName,x),...  %# Prepend path to files
                       fileList,'UniformOutput',false);
    end
  end
  subDirs = {dirWithSubFolders(dirIndex).name};  %# Get a list of the subdirectories
  validIndex = ~ismember(subDirs,{'.','..'});  %# Find index of subdirectories
                                               %#   that are not '.' or '..'
  for iDir = find(validIndex)                  %# Loop over valid subdirectories
    nextDir = fullfile(dirName,subDirs{iDir});    %# Get the subdirectory path
    fileList = [fileList; getAllFiles(nextDir, fileExtension, appendFullPath)];  %# Recursively call getAllFiles
  end
end
Example for running the code:
fileList = getAllFiles(dirName, '*.xml', 0); %#0 is false obviously
How do I get the path of the Python script I am running in?
The accepted solution for this will not work if you are planning to compile your scripts using py2exe. If you're planning to do so, this is the functional equivalent:
os.path.dirname(sys.argv[0])
Py2exe does not provide an __file__ variable. For reference: http://www.py2exe.org/index.cgi/Py2exeEnvironment
Count the number of commits on a Git branch
I like doing git shortlog -s -n --all. Gives you a "leaderboard" style list of names and number of commits.
How to add a hook to the application context initialization event?
I had a single page application on entering URL it was creating a HashMap (used by my webpage) which contained data from multiple databases. I did following things to load everything during server start time-
1- Created ContextListenerClass
public class MyAppContextListener implements ServletContextListener
    @Autowired
    private  MyDataProviderBean myDataProviderBean;
    public MyDataProviderBean getMyDataProviderBean() {
        return MyDataProviderBean;
    }
    public void setMyDataProviderBean(MyDataProviderBean MyDataProviderBean) {
        this.myDataProviderBean = MyDataProviderBean;
    }
    @Override
    public void contextDestroyed(ServletContextEvent arg0) {
        System.out.println("ServletContextListener destroyed");
    }
    @Override
    public void contextInitialized(ServletContextEvent context) {
        System.out.println("ServletContextListener started");
        ServletContext sc = context.getServletContext();
        WebApplicationContext springContext = WebApplicationContextUtils.getWebApplicationContext(sc);
        MyDataProviderBean MyDataProviderBean = (MyDataProviderBean)springContext.getBean("myDataProviderBean");
        Map<String, Object> myDataMap = MyDataProviderBean.getDataMap();
        sc.setAttribute("myMap", myDataMap);
    }
2- Added below entry in web.xml
<listener>
    <listener-class>org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener</listener-class>
</listener>
<listener>
    <listener-class>com.context.listener.MyAppContextListener</listener-class>
</listener>
3- In my Controller Class updated code to first check for Map in servletContext
    @RequestMapping(value = "/index", method = RequestMethod.GET)
        public String index(@ModelAttribute("model") ModelMap model) {
            Map<String, Object> myDataMap = new HashMap<String, Object>();
            if (context != null && context.getAttribute("myMap")!=null)
            {
                myDataMap=(Map<String, Object>)context.getAttribute("myMap");
            }
            else
            {
                myDataMap = myDataProviderBean.getDataMap();
            }
            for (String key : myDataMap.keySet())
            {
                model.addAttribute(key, myDataMap.get(key));
            }
            return "myWebPage";
        }
With this much change when I start my tomcat it loads dataMap during startTime and puts everything in servletContext which is then used by Controller Class to get results from already populated servletContext .
Changing CSS style from ASP.NET code
I find that code gets messy fast when C# code is used to modify CSS values. Perhaps a better approach is for your code to dynamically set the class attribute on the div tag and then store any specific CSS settings in the style sheet.
That might not work for your situation, but its a decent default position if you need to change the style on the fly in server side code.
Uploading Files in ASP.net without using the FileUpload server control
Yes you can achive this by ajax post method. on server side you can use httphandler. So we are not using any server controls as per your requirement.
with ajax you can show the upload progress also.
you will have to read the file as a inputstream.
using (FileStream fs = File.Create("D:\\_Workarea\\" + fileName))
    {
        Byte[] buffer = new Byte[32 * 1024];
        int read = context.Request.GetBufferlessInputStream().Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
        while (read > 0)
        {
            fs.Write(buffer, 0, read);
            read = context.Request.GetBufferlessInputStream().Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
        }
    }
Sample Code
function sendFile(file) {
        debugger;
        $.ajax({
            url: 'handler/FileUploader.ashx?FileName=' + file.name, //server script to process data
            type: 'POST',
            xhr: function () {
                myXhr = $.ajaxSettings.xhr();
                if (myXhr.upload) {
                    myXhr.upload.addEventListener('progress', progressHandlingFunction, false);
                }
                return myXhr;
            },
            success: function (result) {
                //On success if you want to perform some tasks.
            },
            data: file,
            cache: false,
            contentType: false,
            processData: false
        });
        function progressHandlingFunction(e) {
            if (e.lengthComputable) {
                var s = parseInt((e.loaded / e.total) * 100);
                $("#progress" + currFile).text(s + "%");
                $("#progbarWidth" + currFile).width(s + "%");
                if (s == 100) {
                    triggerNextFileUpload();
                }
            }
        }
    }
Switch statement fall-through...should it be allowed?
It may depend on what you consider fallthrough. I'm ok with this sort of thing:
switch (value)
{
  case 0:
    result = ZERO_DIGIT;
    break;
  case 1:
  case 3:
  case 5:
  case 7:
  case 9:
     result = ODD_DIGIT;
     break;
  case 2:
  case 4:
  case 6:
  case 8:
     result = EVEN_DIGIT;
     break;
}
But if you have a case label followed by code that falls through to another case label, I'd pretty much always consider that evil. Perhaps moving the common code to a function and calling from both places would be a better idea.
And please note that I use the C++ FAQ definition of "evil"
Integrating Dropzone.js into existing HTML form with other fields
You can modify the formData by catching the 'sending' event from your dropzone.
dropZone.on('sending', function(data, xhr, formData){
        formData.append('fieldname', 'value');
});
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'ownerDocument' of undefined
The same issue came up for me inside of $elms.each().
Because:
  1. the function you pass to .each(Function) exposes (at least) two arguments; the first being the index and the second being the element in the current element in the list, and
  2. because other similar looping methods give current the element in the array before the index
you may be tempted to do this:
$elms.each((item) => $(item).addClass('wrong'));
When this is what you need:
$elms.each((index, item) => $(item).addClass('wrong'));
Add an object to an Array of a custom class
The array declaration should be:
Car[] garage = new Car[100];
You can also just assign directly:
garage[1] = new Car("Blue");
Find an object in array?
Another way to get access to array.index(of: Any) is by declaring your object
Apply .gitignore on an existing repository already tracking large number of files
I think this is an easy way for adding a .gitignore file to an existing repository.
Prerequisite:
You need a browser to access your github account.
Steps
  1. Create a new file in your required (existing) project and name it .gitignore. You will a get suggestive prompt for .gitignore templates as soon as you name the file as .gitignore. Either use these templates or use gitignore.io to generate the content of your gitignore file.
  2. Commit the changes.
  3. Now clone this repository.
Have fun!
What is the current choice for doing RPC in Python?
XML-RPC is part of the Python standard library:
jQuery Multiple ID selectors
You can use multiple id's the way you wrote:
$('#upload_link, #upload_link2, #upload_link3')
However, that doesn't mean that those ids exist within the DOM when you've executed your code. It also doesn't mean that upload is a legitimate function. It also doesn't mean that upload has been built in a way that allows for multiple elements in a selection.
upload is a custom jQuery plugin, so you'll have to show what's going on with upload for us to be able to help you.
Using jQuery to see if a div has a child with a certain class
There is a hasClass function
How to delete a record in Django models?
There are a couple of ways:
To delete it directly:
SomeModel.objects.filter(id=id).delete()
To delete it from an instance:
instance = SomeModel.objects.get(id=id)
instance.delete()
FFmpeg: How to split video efficiently?
does the later approach save computation time and memory?
There is no big difference between those two examples that you provided. The first example cuts the video sequentially, in 2 steps, while the second example does it at the same time (using threads). No particular speed-up will be noticeable. You can read more about creating multiple outputs with FFmpeg
Further more, what you can use (in recent FFmpeg) is the stream segmenter muxer which can:
output streams to a number of separate files of nearly fixed duration. Output filename pattern can be set in a fashion similar to image2.
How can I remove "\r\n" from a string in C#? Can I use a regular expression?
This splits the string on any combo of new line characters and joins them with a space, assuming you actually do want the space where the new lines would have been.
var oldString = "the quick brown\rfox jumped over\nthe box\r\nand landed on some rocks.";
var newString = string.Join(" ", Regex.Split(oldString, @"(?:\r\n|\n|\r)"));
Console.Write(newString);
// prints:
// the quick brown fox jumped over the box and landed on some rocks.
Last segment of URL in jquery
You can do this with simple paths (w/0) querystrings etc.
Granted probably overly complex and probably not performant, but I wanted to use reduce for the fun of it.
  "/foo/bar/"
    .split(path.sep)
    .filter(x => x !== "")
    .reduce((_, part, i, arr) => {
      if (i == arr.length - 1) return part;
    }, "");
  1. Split the string on path separators.
  2. Filter out empty string path parts (this could happen with trailing slash in path).
  3. Reduce the array of path parts to the last one.
MongoDB: update every document on one field
Regardless of the version, for your example, the <update> is:
{  $set: { lastLookedAt: Date.now() / 1000 }  }
However, depending on your version of MongoDB, the query will look different. Regardless of version, the key is that the empty condition {} will match any document. In the Mongo shell, or with any MongoDB client:
$version >= 3.2:
db.foo.updateMany( {}, <update> )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)
3.2 > $version >= 2.2:
db.foo.update( {}, <update>, { multi: true } )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)
  • {multi: true} is the "update multiple documents" option
$version < 2.2:
db.foo.update( {}, <update>, false, true )
  • {} is the condition (the empty condition matches any document)
  • false is for the "upsert" parameter
  • true is for the "multi" parameter (update multiple records)
Docker and securing passwords
The issue 13490 "Secrets: write-up best practices, do's and don'ts, roadmap" just got a new update in Sept. 2020, from Sebastiaan van Stijn:
Build time secrets are now possible when using buildkit as builder; see the blog post "Build secrets and SSH forwarding in Docker 18.09", Nov. 2018, from Tõnis Tiigi.
The documentation is updated: "Build images with BuildKit"
The RUN --mount option used for secrets will graduate to the default (stable) Dockerfile syntax soon.
That last part is new (Sept. 2020)
New Docker Build secret information
The new --secret flag for docker build allows the user to pass secret information to be used in the Dockerfile for building docker images in a safe way that will not end up stored in the final image.
id is the identifier to pass into the docker build --secret.
This identifier is associated with the RUN --mount identifier to use in the Dockerfile.
Docker does not use the filename of where the secret is kept outside of the Dockerfile, since this may be sensitive information.
dst renames the secret file to a specific file in the Dockerfile RUN command to use.
For example, with a secret piece of information stored in a text file:
$ echo 'WARMACHINEROX' > mysecret.txt
And with a Dockerfile that specifies use of a BuildKit frontend docker/dockerfile:1.0-experimental, the secret can be accessed.
For example:
# syntax = docker/dockerfile:1.0-experimental
FROM alpine
# shows secret from default secret location:
RUN --mount=type=secret,id=mysecret cat /run/secrets/mysecret
# shows secret from custom secret location:
RUN --mount=type=secret,id=mysecret,dst=/foobar cat /foobar
This Dockerfile is only to demonstrate that the secret can be accessed. As you can see the secret printed in the build output. The final image built will not have the secret file:
$ docker build --no-cache --progress=plain --secret id=mysecret,src=mysecret.txt .
...
#8 [2/3] RUN --mount=type=secret,id=mysecret cat /run/secrets/mysecret
System.Threading.Timer in C# it seems to be not working. It runs very fast every 3 second
Is using System.Threading.Timer mandatory?
If not, System.Timers.Timer has handy Start() and Stop() methods (and an AutoReset property you can set to false, so that the Stop() is not needed and you simply call Start() after executing).
Java enum with multiple value types
First, the enum methods shouldn't be in all caps. They are methods just like other methods, with the same naming convention.
Second, what you are doing is not the best possible way to set up your enum. Instead of using an array of values for the values, you should use separate variables for each value. You can then implement the constructor like you would any other class.
Here's how you should do it with all the suggestions above:
public enum States {
    ...
    MASSACHUSETTS("Massachusetts",  "MA",   true),
    MICHIGAN     ("Michigan",       "MI",   false),
    ...; // all 50 of those
    private final String full;
    private final String abbr;
    private final boolean originalColony;
    private States(String full, String abbr, boolean originalColony) {
        this.full = full;
        this.abbr = abbr;
        this.originalColony = originalColony;
    }
    public String getFullName() {
        return full;
    }
    public String getAbbreviatedName() {
        return abbr;
    }
    public boolean isOriginalColony(){
        return originalColony;
    }
}
"Adaptive Server is unavailable or does not exist" error connecting to SQL Server from PHP
I've found an issue happen to be with the Firewall. So, make sure your IP is whitelisted and the firewall does not block your connection. You can check connectivity with:
tsql -H somehost.com -p 1433
In my case, the output was:
Error 20009 (severity 9):
  Unable to connect: Adaptive Server is unavailable or does not exist
  OS error 111, "Connection refused"
extract the date part from DateTime in C#
There is no way to "discard" the time component.
DateTime.Today is the same as:
DateTime d = DateTime.Now.Date;
If you only want to display only the date portion, simply do that - use ToString with the format string you need.
For example, using the standard format string "D" (long date format specifier):
d.ToString("D");
How to perform Join between multiple tables in LINQ lambda
What you've seen is what you get - and it's exactly what you asked for, here:
(ppc, c) => new { productproductcategory = ppc, category = c}
That's a lambda expression returning an anonymous type with those two properties.
In your CategorizedProducts, you just need to go via those properties:
CategorizedProducts catProducts = query.Select(
      m => new {
             ProdId = m.productproductcategory.product.Id,
             CatId = m.category.CatId,
             // other assignments
           });
Android Studio error: "Environment variable does not point to a valid JVM installation"
In response to:
Ok, Same error (The Environment variable JAVA_HOME (with a value of C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_51\bin)) does not point to a
valid JVM instalation). What should I do? – IPconfigrammer Apr 20 '14 at 18:41
      I can give you a last advice of checking your JDK by opening the jvisualvm.exe or installing a program like BlueJ to check whether
your JDK is corrupt or not. – prakhar19 Apr 20 '14 at 18:45
      jvisualvm.exe works otherwise, I'm not sure. Problem Still unsolved –  IPconfigrammer
IPconfigrammer --I've been having the same problems. After trying just about everything on this page, I noticed when Android Studio was telling me it wasn't valid it asked me to install a 64-bit JDK. So, even though my windows is 86-bit, I downloaded the 64-bit JDK and, without changing any environment variables or anything, I've just opened Android Studio for the first time. No more errors. :)
So try the 64-bit instead of the 86-bit.
socket.error: [Errno 48] Address already in use
This commonly happened use case for any developer.
It is better to have it as function in your local system. (So better to keep this script in one of the shell profile like ksh/zsh or bash profile based on the user preference)
function killport {
   kill -9 `lsof -i tcp:"$1" | grep LISTEN | awk '{print $2}'`
}
Usage:
killport port_number
Example:
killport 8080
Set opacity of background image without affecting child elements
#footer ul li {
  position: relative;
  opacity: 0.99;
}
#footer ul li::before {
  content: "";
  position: absolute;
  width: 100%;
  height: 100%;
  z-index: -1;
  background: url(/images/arrow.png) no-repeat 0 50%;
  opacity: 0.5;
}
Hack with opacity .99 (less than 1) creates z-index context so you can not worry about global z-index values. (Try to remove it and see what happens in the next demo where parent wrapper has positive z-index.)
If your element already has z-index, then you don't need this hack.
Demo of this technique.
How can I get browser to prompt to save password?
Simple 2020 aproach
This will automatically enable autocomplete and save password in browsers.
  • autocomplete="on" (form)
  • autocomplete="username" (input, email/username)
  • autocomplete="current-password" (input, password)
<form autocomplete="on">
  <input id="user-text-field" type="email" autocomplete="username"/>
  <input id="password-text-field" type="password" autocomplete="current-password"/>
</form>
Difference between <input type='submit' /> and <button type='submit'>text</button>
In summary :
<input type="submit">
<button type="submit"> Submit </button>
Both by default will visually draw a button that performs the same action (submit the form).
However, it is recommended to use <button type="submit"> because it has better semantics, better ARIA support and it is easier to style.
Loop through checkboxes and count each one checked or unchecked
You can loop through all of the checkboxes by writing $(':checkbox').each(...).
If I understand your question correctly, you're looking for the following code:
var str = "";
$(':checkbox').each(function() {
    str += this.checked ? "1," : "0,";
});
str = str.substr(0, str.length - 1);    //Remove the trailing comma
This code will loop through all of the checkboxes and add either 1, or 0, to a string.
Replace a value in a data frame based on a conditional (`if`) statement
You have created a factor variable in nm so you either need to avoid doing so or add an additional level to the factor attributes. You should also avoid using <- in the arguments to data.frame()
Option 1:
junk <- data.frame(x = rep(LETTERS[1:4], 3), y =letters[1:12], stringsAsFactors=FALSE)
junk$nm[junk$nm == "B"] <- "b"
Option 2:
levels(junk$nm) <- c(levels(junk$nm), "b")
junk$nm[junk$nm == "B"] <- "b"
junk
Convert PEM traditional private key to PKCS8 private key
To convert the private key from PKCS#1 to PKCS#8 with openssl:
# openssl pkcs8 -topk8 -inform PEM -outform PEM -nocrypt -in pkcs1.key -out pkcs8.key
That will work as long as you have the PKCS#1 key in PEM (text format) as described in the question.
How to plot two histograms together in R?
Here's the version like the ggplot2 one I gave only in base R. I copied some from @nullglob.
generate the data
carrots <- rnorm(100000,5,2)
cukes <- rnorm(50000,7,2.5)
You don't need to put it into a data frame like with ggplot2. The drawback of this method is that you have to write out a lot more of the details of the plot. The advantage is that you have control over more details of the plot.
## calculate the density - don't plot yet
densCarrot <- density(carrots)
densCuke <- density(cukes)
## calculate the range of the graph
xlim <- range(densCuke$x,densCarrot$x)
ylim <- range(0,densCuke$y, densCarrot$y)
#pick the colours
carrotCol <- rgb(1,0,0,0.2)
cukeCol <- rgb(0,0,1,0.2)
## plot the carrots and set up most of the plot parameters
plot(densCarrot, xlim = xlim, ylim = ylim, xlab = 'Lengths',
     main = 'Distribution of carrots and cucumbers',
     panel.first = grid())
#put our density plots in
polygon(densCarrot, density = -1, col = carrotCol)
polygon(densCuke, density = -1, col = cukeCol)
## add a legend in the corner
legend('topleft',c('Carrots','Cucumbers'),
       fill = c(carrotCol, cukeCol), bty = 'n',
       border = NA)
What is the difference between single-quoted and double-quoted strings in PHP?
MySql Error: 1364 Field 'display_name' doesn't have default value
I also faced that problem and there are two ways to solve this in laravel.
  1. first one is you can set the default value as null. I will show you an example:
    public function up()
    {
        Schema::create('users', function (Blueprint $table) {
            $table->increments('id');
            $table->string('name');
            $table->string('gender');
            $table->string('slug');
            $table->string('pic')->nullable();
            $table->string('email')->unique();
            $table->string('password');
            $table->rememberToken();
            $table->timestamps();
        });
    }
as the above example, you can set nullable() for that feature. then when you are inserting data MySQL set the default value as null.
  1. second one is in your model set your input field in protected $fillable field. as example:
    protected $fillable = [
        'name', 'email', 'password', 'slug', 'gender','pic'
    ];
I think the second one is fine than the first one and also you can set nullable feature as well as fillable in the same time without a problem.
Why does Node.js' fs.readFile() return a buffer instead of string?
This comes up high on Google, so I'd like to add some contextual information about the original question (emphasis mine):
Why does Node.js' fs.readFile() return a buffer instead of string?
Because files aren't always text
Even if you as the programmer know it: Node has no idea what's in the file you're trying to read. It could be a text file, but it could just as well be a ZIP archive or a JPG image — Node doesn't know.
Because reading text files is tricky
Even if Node knew it were to read a text file, it still would have no idea which character encoding is used (i.e. how the bytes in the file map to human-readable characters), because the character encoding itself is not stored in the file.
There are ways to guess the character encoding of text files with more or less confidence (that's what text editors do when opening a file), but you usually don't want your code to rely on guesses without your explicit instruction.
Buffers to the rescue!
So, because it does not and can not know all these details, Node just reads the file byte for byte, without assuming anything about its contents.
And that's what the returned buffer is: an unopinionated container for raw binary content. How this content should be interpreted is up to you as the developer.
How can I merge two MySQL tables?
It depends on the semantic of the primary key. If it's just autoincrement, then use something like:
insert into table1 (all columns except pk)
select all_columns_except_pk
from table2;
If PK means something, you need to find a way to determine which record should have priority. You could create a select query to find duplicates first (see answer by cpitis). Then eliminate the ones you don't want to keep and use the above insert to add records that remain.
Iterating over dictionaries using 'for' loops
You can check the implementation of CPython's dicttype on GitHub. This is the signature of method that implements the dict iterator:
             PyObject **pvalue, Py_hash_t *phash)
Total Number of Row Resultset getRow Method
The best way to get number of rows from resultset is using count function query for database access and then rs.getInt(1) method to get number of rows. from my code look it:
    String query = "SELECT COUNT() FROM table";
ResultSet rs = new DatabaseConnection().selectData(query);
rs.getInt(1);
this will return int value number of rows fetched from database. Here DatabaseConnection().selectData() is my code for accessing database. I was also stuck here but then solved...
Search and replace a line in a file in Python
I guess something like this should do it. It basically writes the content to a new file and replaces the old file with the new file:
from tempfile import mkstemp
from shutil import move, copymode
from os import fdopen, remove
def replace(file_path, pattern, subst):
    #Create temp file
    fh, abs_path = mkstemp()
    with fdopen(fh,'w') as new_file:
        with open(file_path) as old_file:
            for line in old_file:
                new_file.write(line.replace(pattern, subst))
    #Copy the file permissions from the old file to the new file
    copymode(file_path, abs_path)
    #Remove original file
    remove(file_path)
    #Move new file
    move(abs_path, file_path)
Could not load file or assembly '***.dll' or one of its dependencies
I had the same problem. For me, it was caused by the default settings in the local IIS server on my machine. So the easy way to fix it, was to use the built in Visual Studio development server instead :)
Newer IIS versions on x64 machines have a setting that doesn't allow 32 bit applications to run by default. To enable 32 bit applications in the local IIS, select the relevant application pool in IIS manager, click "Advanced settings", and change "Enable 32-Bit Applications" from False to True
height: calc(100%) not working correctly in CSS
All the parent elements in the hierarchy should have height 100%. Just give max-height:100% to the element and max-height:calc(100% - 90px) to the immediate parent element.
It worked for me on IE also.
How to get the home directory in Python?
I know this is an old thread, but I recently needed this for a large scale project (Python 3.8). It had to work on any mainstream OS, so therefore I went with the solution @Max wrote in the comments.
Code:
import os
print(os.path.expanduser("~"))
Output Windows:
PS C:\Python> & C:/Python38/python.exe c:/Python/test.py
C:\Users\mXXXXX
Output Linux (Ubuntu):
rxxx@xx:/mnt/c/Python$ python3 test.py
/home/rxxx
I also tested it on Python 2.7.17 and that works too.
What happens to C# Dictionary<int, int> lookup if the key does not exist?
You should probably use:
The reason why you can't check for null is that the key here is a value type.
Using the Underscore module with Node.js
As of today (April 30, 2012) you can use Underscore as usual on your Node.js code. Previous comments are right pointing that REPL interface (Node's command line mode) uses the "_" to hold the last result BUT on you are free to use it on your code files and it will work without a problem by doing the standard:
var _ = require('underscore');
PHP class: Global variable as property in class
What I've experienced is that you can't assign your global variable to a class variable directly.
class myClass() {
    public $var = $GLOBALS['variable'];
    public function func() {
         var_dump($this->var);
    }
}
With the code right above, you get an error saying "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '$GLOBALS'"
But if we do something like this,
class myClass() {
    public $var = array();
    public function __construct() {
        $this->var = $GLOBALS['variable'];
    }
    public function func() {
         var_dump($this->var);
    }
}
Our code will work fine.
Where we assign a global variable to a class variable must be inside a function. And I've used constructor function for this.
So, you can access your global variable inside the every function of a class just using $this->var;
