UIScrollView Scrollable Content Size Ambiguity

The content view is freeform and can has all subviews added to it with their own constraints in relation to the contentView.

SaveFileDialog setting default path and file type?

The SaveFileDialog control won't do any saving at all. All it does is providing you a convenient interface to actually display Windows' default file save dialog.

  1. Set the property InitialDirectory to the drive you'd like it to show some other default. Just think of other computers that might have a different layout. By default windows will save the directory used the last time and present it again.

  2. That is handled outside the control. You'll have to check the dialog's results and then do the saving yourself (e.g. write a text or binary file).

Just as a quick example (there are alternative ways to do it). savefile is a control of type SaveFileDialog

In terms of coding, a bidirectional relationship is more complex to implement because the application is responsible for keeping both sides in synch according to JPA specification 5 (on page 42). Unfortunately the example given in the specification does not give more details, so it does not give an idea of the level of complexity.

When not using a second level cache it is usually not a problem to do not have the relationship methods correctly implemented because the instances get discarded at the end of the transaction.

When using second level cache, if anything gets corrupted because of wrongly implemented relationship handling methods, this means that other transactions will also see the corrupted elements (the second level cache is global).

A correctly implemented bi-directional relationship can make queries and the code simpler, but should not be used if it does not really make sense in terms of business logic.

You can first convert your date strings with pandas.to_datetime, which gives you access to all of the numpy datetime and timedelta facilities. For example:

While division by 1000 won’t come as a surprise to many, doing your own time conversions can get hard to read pretty fast, so it’s a bad habit to get into when you can avoid it.

The Instant class that I am using is part of java.time, the modern Java date and time API. It’s built-in on new Android versions, API level 26 and up. If you are programming for older Android, you may get the backport, see below. If you don’t want to do that, understandably, I’d still use a built-in conversion:

Question: Can I use java.time on Android?

Yes, java.time works nicely on older and newer Android devices. It just requires at least Java 6.

  • In Java 8 and later and on newer Android devices (from API level 26) the modern API comes built-in.
  • In non-Android Java 6 and 7 get the ThreeTen Backport, the backport of the new classes (ThreeTen for JSR 310; see the links at the bottom).
  • On (older) Android use the Android edition of ThreeTen Backport. It’s called ThreeTenABP. And make sure you import the date and time classes from org.threeten.bp with subpackages.

I made a few changes to achieve what I think you're after. First of all I removed the descriptionContainerHor component. Then I set the flexDirection of the vertical views to row and added alignItems: 'center' and justifyContent: 'center'. Since the vertical views are now in fact stacked along the horizontal axis I removed the Ver part from the name.

So now you have a wrapper view that should vertically and horizontally align it's content and stack it along the x-axis. I then simply put two invisible View components on the left and right side of the Text component to do the padding.

Like this:

I found that when I had this issue that I had to delete the application.config file from my solution. I was pulling the code from co-worker's repository whose config file was mapping to their local computer resources (and not my own). In addition to that, I had to create a new virtual directory as explained in the previous answers.

Returning a promise in an async function in TypeScript

When you do new Promise((resolve)... the type inferred was Promise<{}> because you should have used new Promise<number>((resolve).

It is interesting that this issue was only highlighted when the async keyword was added. I would recommend reporting this issue to the TS team on GitHub.

As Mystere Man suggested, getting just a view first and then again making an ajax call again to get the json result is unnecessary in this case. that is 2 calls to the server. I think you can directly return an HTML table of Users in the first call.

We will do this in this way. We will have a strongly typed view which will return the markup of list of users to the browser and this data is being supplied by an action method which we will invoke from our browser using an http request.

If this were for a plugin system, you would use MyClass as a base class and define all the required functions virtual. When someone else tries to pull in these changed commits, the history is different and kaboom.

You can keep track of the current time elapsed in the system(timeElapsed). Assign all processors to a process in the beginning, and execute until the shortest process is done executing. Also, whenever a process starts executing, recored its startTime, when finishes, record its finishTime (both same as timeElapsed). That way you can calculate what you need.

What is the garbage collector in Java?

To put it in the most simple terms that even a non-programmer can understand, when a program processes data it creates intermediate data and storage space (variables, arrays, certain object metadata etc.) for that data.

When these objects are accessed across functions or over a certain size, they are allocated from a central heap. Then when they are no long needed, they need to be cleaned up.

There are some very good articles online about how this works, so I'll just cover the very basic definition.

The GC is basically the function that does this cleanup. To do this is clears table entries that aren't referenced by any active objects, effectively deleting the objects, than copies and compacts the memory. It's a little more complicated than this, but you get the idea.

The big problem is some parts this process often requires the entire Java VM to require to be stopped temporarily to take place, as well as this entire process being very processor and memory bandwidth intensive. The various options as of GCs and tuning options for each one are designed to balance these various issues with the whole GC process.

I had this problem and none of the other answers solved it, although of course the other answers were correct.

In my case, it turned out that the /root directory itself (not e.g. /root/.ssh) had the wrong permissions. I needed:

chown root.root /root
chmod 700 /root

Of course, those permissions should be something like that (maybe chmod 770) regardless. However, it specifically prevented sshd from working, even though /root/.ssh and /root/.ssh/authorized_keys both had correct permissions and owners.

A dictionary doesn't keep an hash of the values, only the keys, so any search over it using a value is going to take at least linear time. Your best bet is to simply iterate over the elements in the dictionary and keep track of the matching keys or switch to a different data structure, perhaps maintain two dictionary mapping key->value and value->List_of_keys. If you do the latter you will trade storage for look up speed. It wouldn't take much to turn @Cybis example into such a data structure.

My personal opinion: Go for Swing together with the NetBeans platform.

If you need advanced components (more than NetBeans offers) you can easily integrate SwingX without problems (or JGoodies) as the NetBeans platform is completely based on Swing.

I would not start a large desktop application (or one that is going to be large) without a good platform that is build upon the underlying UI framework.

The other option is SWT together with the Eclipse RCP, but it's harder (though not impossible) to integrate "pure" Swing components into such an application.

The learning curve is a bit steep for the NetBeans platform (although I guess that's true for Eclipse as well) but there are some good books around which I would highly recommend.

The problem with your query is that when using a GROUP BY clause (which you essentially do by using distinct) you can only use columns that you group by or aggregate functions. This should work however (and doesn't need a join):

In UNIX and Linux, the ability to remove a file is not determined by the access bits of that file. It is determined by the access bits of the directory which contains the file.

Think of it this way -- deleting a file doesn't modify that file. You aren't writing to the file, so why should "w" on the file matter? Deleting a file requires editing the directory that points to the file, so you need "w" on the that directory.

Also, if you do have multiple versions of the same application installed, this uninstaller will cycle through them all at once, which confuses MsiExec.exe, so there's that too.

Node.js Generate html

Node.js does not run in a browser, therefore you will not have a document object available. Actually, you will not even have a DOM tree at all. If you are a bit confused at this point, I encourage you to read more about it before going further.

There are a few methods you can choose from to do what you want.


Method 1: Serving the file directly via HTTP

Because you wrote about opening the file in the browser, why don't you use a framework that will serve the file directly as an HTTP service, instead of having a two-step process? This way, your code will be more dynamic and easily maintainable (not mentioning your HTML always up-to-date).

There are plenty frameworks out there for that :

Because Node is a modular system, you can even put the buildHtml function inside it's own module and simply write adapters to handle the HTML however you like. Something like

You code sample will fail. If obj is null then the obj.ToString() will result in a null reference exception. I'd short cut the process and check for a null obj at the start of your helper function. As to your actual question, what's the type you're checking for null or zero? On String there's a great IsNullOrEmpty function, seems to me this would be a great use of extension methods to implement an IsNullOrZero method on the int? type.

Edit: Remember, the '?' is just compiler sugar for the INullable type, so you could probably take an INullable as the parm and then jsut compare it to null (parm == null) and if not null compare to zero.

JSON can represent a wide variety of data structures -- a JS "object" is roughly like a Python dict (with string keys), a JS "array" roughly like a Python list, and you can nest them as long as the final "leaf" elements are numbers or strings.

CSV can essentially represent only a 2-D table -- optionally with a first row of "headers", i.e., "column names", which can make the table interpretable as a list of dicts, instead of the normal interpretation, a list of lists (again, "leaf" elements can be numbers or strings).

So, in the general case, you can't translate an arbitrary JSON structure to a CSV. In a few special cases you can (array of arrays with no further nesting; arrays of objects which all have exactly the same keys). Which special case, if any, applies to your problem? The details of the solution depend on which special case you do have. Given the astonishing fact that you don't even mention which one applies, I suspect you may not have considered the constraint, neither usable case in fact applies, and your problem is impossible to solve. But please do clarify!

How to send 100,000 emails weekly?

Short answer: While it's technically possible to send 100k e-mails each week yourself, the simplest, easiest and cheapest solution is to outsource this to one of the companies that specialize in it (I did say "cheapest": there's no limit to the amount of development time (and therefore money) that you can sink into this when trying to DIY).

Long answer: If you decide that you absolutely want to do this yourself, prepare for a world of hurt (after all, this is e-mail/e-fail we're talking about). You'll need:

  • e-mail content that is not spam (otherwise you'll run into additional major roadblocks on every step, even legal repercussions)
  • in addition, your content should be easy to distinguish from spam - that may be a bit hard to do in some cases (I heard that a certain pharmaceutical company had to all but abandon e-mail, as their brand names are quite common in spams)
  • a configurable SMTP server of your own, one which won't buckle when you dump 100k e-mails onto it (your ISP's upstream server won't be sufficient here and you'll make the ISP violently unhappy; we used two dedicated boxes)
  • some mail wrapper (e.g. PhpMailer if PHP's your poison of choice; using PHP's mail() is horrible enough by itself)
  • your own sender function to run in a loop, create the mails and pass them to the wrapper (note that you may run into PHP's memory limits if your app has a memory leak; you may need to recycle the sending process periodically, or even better, decouple the "creating e-mails" and "sending e-mails" altogether)

Surprisingly, that was the easy part. The hard part is actually sending it:

  • some servers will ban you when you send too many mails close together, so you need to shuffle and watch your queue (e.g. send one mail to [email protected], then three to other domains, only then another to [email protected])
  • you need to have correct PTR, SPF, DKIM records
  • handling remote server timeouts, misconfigured DNS records and other network pleasantries
  • handling invalid e-mails (and no, regex is the wrong tool for that)
  • handling unsubscriptions (many legitimate newsletters have been reclassified as spam due to many frustrated users who couldn't unsubscribe in one step and instead chose to "mark as spam" - the spam filters do learn, esp. with large e-mail providers)
  • handling bounces and rejects ("no such mailbox [email protected]","mailbox [email protected] full")
  • handling blacklisting and removal from blacklists (Sure, you're not sending spam. Some recipients won't be so sure - with such large list, it will happen sometimes, no matter what precautions you take. Some people (e.g. your not-so-scrupulous competitors) might even go as far to falsely report your mailings as spam - it does happen. On average, it takes weeks to get yourself removed from a blacklist.)

And to top it off, you'll have to manage the legal part of it (various federal, state, and local laws; and even different tangles of laws once you send outside the U.S. (note: you have no way of finding if [email protected] lives in Southwest Elbonia, the country with world's most draconian antispam laws)).

I'm pretty sure I missed a few heads of this hydra - are you still sure you want to do this yourself? If so, there'll be another wave, this time merely the annoying problems inherent in sending an e-mail. (You see, SMTP is a store-and-forward protocol, which means that your e-mail will be shuffled across many SMTP servers around the Internet, in the hope that the next one is a bit closer to the final recipient. Basically, the e-mail is sent to an SMTP server, which puts it into its forward queue; when time comes, it will forward it further to a different SMTP server, until it reaches the SMTP server for the given domain. This forward could happen immediately, or in a few minutes, or hours, or days, or never.) Thus, you'll see the following issues - most of which could happen en route as well as at the destination:

  • the remote SMTP servers don't want to talk to your SMTP server
  • your mails are getting marked as spam (<blink> is not your friend here, nor is <font color=...>)
  • your mails are delivered days, even weeks late (contrary to popular opinion, SMTP is designed to make a best effort to deliver the message sometime in the future - not to deliver it now)
  • your mails are not delivered at all (already sent from e-mail server on hop #4, not sent yet from server on hop #5, the server that currently holds the message crashes, data is lost)
  • your mails are mangled by some braindead server en route (this one is somewhat solvable with base64 encoding, but then the size goes up and the e-mail looks more suspicious)
  • your mails are delivered and the recipients seem not to want them ("I'm sure I didn't sign up for this, I remember exactly what I did a year ago" (of course you do, sir))
  • users with various versions of Microsoft Outlook and its special handling of Internet mail
  • wizard's apprentice mode (a self-reinforcing positive feedback loop - in other words, automated e-mails as replies to automated e-mails as replies to...; you really don't want to be the one to set this off, as you'd anger half the internet at yourself)

and it'll be your job to troubleshoot and solve this (hint: you can't, mostly). The people who run a legit mass-mailing businesses know that in the end you can't solve it, and that they can't solve it either - and they have the reasons well researched, documented and outlined (maybe even as a Powerpoint presentation - complete with sounds and cool transitions - that your bosses can understand), as they've had to explain this a million times before. Plus, for the problems that are actually solvable, they know very well how to solve them.

If, after all this, you are not discouraged and still want to do this, go right ahead: it's even possible that you'll find a better way to do this. Just know that the road ahead won't be easy - sending e-mail is trivial, getting it delivered is hard.

Just supply the IP / hostname of the remote machine in your database connection string, instead of localhost. For example:

Reusing a PreparedStatement multiple times

The loop in your code is only an over-simplified example, right?

It would be better to create the PreparedStatement only once, and re-use it over and over again in the loop.

In situations where that is not possible (because it complicated the program flow too much), it is still beneficial to use a PreparedStatement, even if you use it only once, because the server-side of the work (parsing the SQL and caching the execution plan), will still be reduced.

To address the situation that you want to re-use the Java-side PreparedStatement, some JDBC drivers (such as Oracle) have a caching feature: If you create a PreparedStatement for the same SQL on the same connection, it will give you the same (cached) instance.

About multi-threading: I do not think JDBC connections can be shared across multiple threads (i.e. used concurrently by multiple threads) anyway. Every thread should get his own connection from the pool, use it, and return it to the pool again.

Your analysis is correct. However, it is not tight.

It is not really easy to explain why building a heap is a linear operation, you should better read it.

A great analysis of the algorithm can be seen here.


The main idea is that in the build_heap algorithm the actual heapify cost is not O(log n)for all elements.

When heapify is called, the running time depends on how far an element might move down in tree before the process terminates. In other words, it depends on the height of the element in the heap. In the worst case, the element might go down all the way to the leaf level.

Let us count the work done level by level.

At the bottommost level, there are 2^(h)nodes, but we do not call heapify on any of these, so the work is 0. At the next to level there are 2^(h - 1) nodes, and each might move down by 1 level. At the 3rd level from the bottom, there are 2^(h - 2) nodes, and each might move down by 2 levels.

As you can see not all heapify operations are O(log n), this is why you are getting O(n).

Sure you can simply use two sliders overlaying each other and add a bit of javascript (actually not more than 5 lines) that the selectors are not exceeding the min/max values (like in @Garys) solution.

Smart pointers will clean themselves up after they go out of scope (thereby removing fear of most memory leaks). Shared pointers are smart pointers that keep a count of how many instances of the pointer exist, and only clean up the memory when the count reaches zero. Firstly, you should use randrange(0,1000) or randint(0,999), not randint(0,1000). The upper limit of randint is inclusive.

For efficiently, randint is simply a wrapper of randrange which calls random, so you should just use random. Also, use xrange as the argument to sample, not range.

You could use

[a for a in sample(xrange(1000),1000) for _ in range(10000/1000)]

to generate 10,000 numbers in the range using sample 10 times.

(Of course this won't beat NumPy.)

In CDECL arguments are pushed onto the stack in revers order, the caller clears the stack and result is returned via processor registry (later I will call it "register A"). In STDCALL there is one difference, the caller doeasn't clear the stack, the calle do.

You are asking which one is faster. No one. You should use native calling convention as long as you can. Change convention only if there is no way out, when using external libraries that requires certain convention to be used.

Besides, there are other conventions that compiler may choose as default one i.e. Visual C++ compiler uses FASTCALL which is theoretically faster because of more extensive usage of processor registers.

Usually you must give a proper calling convention signature to callback functions passed to some external library i.e. callback to qsort from C library must be CDECL (if the compiler by default uses other convention then we must mark the callback as CDECL) or various WinAPI callbacks must be STDCALL (whole WinAPI is STDCALL).

Other usual case may be when you are storing pointers to some external functions i.e. to create a pointer to WinAPI function its type definition must be marked with STDCALL.

And below is an example showing how does the compiler do it:

How to select specified node within Xpath node sets by index with Selenium?

This is a FAQ:

//someName[3]

means: all someName elements in the document, that are the third someName child of their parent -- there may be many such elements.

What you want is exactly the 3rd someName element:

(//someName)[3]

Explanation: the [] has a higher precedence (priority) than //. Remember always to put expressions of the type //someName in brackets when you need to specify the Nth node of their selected node-list.
