jQuery - multiple $(document).ready ...?

It is important to note that each jQuery() call must actually return. If an exception is thrown in one, subsequent (unrelated) calls will never be executed.

This applies regardless of syntax. You can use jQuery(), jQuery(function() {}), $(document).ready(), whatever you like, the behavior is the same. If an early one fails, subsequent blocks will never be run.

This was a problem for me when using 3rd-party libraries. One library was throwing an exception, and subsequent libraries never initialized anything.

Detect whether Office is 32bit or 64bit via the registry

Search the registry for the install path of the office component you are interested in, e.g. for Excel 2010 look in SOFTWARE(Wow6432Node)\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\InstallRoot. It will only be either in the 32-bit registry or the 64-bit registry not both.

ALTER TABLE on dependent column

you can drop the Constraint which is restricting you. If the column has access to other table. suppose a view is accessing the column which you are altering then it wont let you alter the column unless you drop the view. and after making changes you can recreate the view.

How to use && in EL boolean expressions in Facelets?

In addition to the answer of BalusC, use the following Java RegExp to replace && with and:

Search:  (#\{[^\}]*)(&&)([^\}]*\})
Replace: $1and$3

You have run this regular expression replacement multiple times to find all occurences in case you are using >2 literals in your EL expressions. Mind to replace the leading # by $ if your EL expression syntax differs.

jQuery animate scroll

I just use:

_x000D_
_x000D_
$('body').animate({ 'scrollTop': '-=-'+<yourValueScroll>+'px' }, 2000);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Is there a MySQL option/feature to track history of changes to records?

Here is how we solved it

a Users table looked like this

Users
-------------------------------------------------
id | name | address | phone | email | created_on | updated_on

And the business requirement changed and we were in a need to check all previous addresses and phone numbers a user ever had. new schema looks like this

Users (the data that won't change over time)
-------------
id | name

UserData (the data that can change over time and needs to be tracked)
-------------------------------------------------
id | id_user | revision | city | address | phone | email | created_on
 1 |   1     |    0     | NY   | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 2 |   1     |    2     | Tokyo| lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 3 |   1     |    3     | Sdny | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 4 |   2     |    0     | Ankr | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 5 |   2     |    1     | Lond | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20

To find the current address of any user, we search for UserData with revision DESC and LIMIT 1

To get the address of a user between a certain period of time we can use created_on bewteen (date1 , date 2)

ORDER BY the IN value list

Just because it is so difficult to find and it has to be spread: in mySQL this can be done much simpler, but I don't know if it works in other SQL.

SELECT * FROM `comments`
WHERE `comments`.`id` IN ('12','5','3','17')
ORDER BY FIELD(`comments`.`id`,'12','5','3','17')

What is the difference between Double.parseDouble(String) and Double.valueOf(String)?

Double.parseDouble(String) will return a primitive double type. Double.valueOf(String) will return a wrapper object of type Double.

So, for e.g.:

double d = Double.parseDouble("1");

Double d = Double.valueOf("1");

Moreover, valueOf(...) is an overloaded method. It has two variants:

  1. Double valueOf(String s)
  2. Double valueOf(double d)

Whereas parseDouble is a single method with the following signature:

  1. double parseDouble(String s)

Git stash pop- needs merge, unable to refresh index

Python dictionary replace values

You cannot select on specific values (or types of values). You'd either make a reverse index (map numbers back to (lists of) keys) or you have to loop through all values every time.

If you are processing numbers in arbitrary order anyway, you may as well loop through all items:

for key, value in inputdict.items():
    # do something with value
    inputdict[key] = newvalue

otherwise I'd go with the reverse index:

from collections import defaultdict

reverse = defaultdict(list)
for key, value in inputdict.items():
    reverse[value].append(key)

Now you can look up keys by value:

for key in reverse[value]:
    inputdict[key] = newvalue

Using Lato fonts in my css (@font-face)

Well, you're missing the letter 'd' in url("~/fonts/Lato-Bol.ttf"); - but assuming that's not it, I would open up your page with developer tools in Chrome and make sure there's no errors loading any of the files (you would probably see an issue in the JavaScript console, or you can check the Network tab and see if anything is red).

(I don't see anything obviously wrong with the code you have posted above)

Other things to check: 1) Are you including your CSS file in your html above the lines where you are trying to use the font-family style? 2) What do you see in the CSS panel in the developer tools for that div? Is font-family: lato crossed out?

PHP function to generate v4 UUID

From tom, on http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.uniqid.php

$r = unpack('v*', fread(fopen('/dev/random', 'r'),16));
$uuid = sprintf('%04x%04x-%04x-%04x-%04x-%04x%04x%04x',
    $r[1], $r[2], $r[3], $r[4] & 0x0fff | 0x4000,
    $r[5] & 0x3fff | 0x8000, $r[6], $r[7], $r[8])

Delete element in a slice

... is syntax for variadic arguments.

I think it is implemented by the complier using slice ([]Type), just like the function append :

func append(slice []Type, elems ...Type) []Type

when you use "elems" in "append", actually it is a slice([]type). So "a = append(a[:0], a[1:]...)" means "a = append(a[0:0], a[1:])"

a[0:0] is a slice which has nothing

a[1:] is "Hello2 Hello3"

This is how it works

Call to undefined function oci_connect()

Things to Make sure

  1. Whenever you connecting Oracle Database , try to use 32 Bit oracle client libraries, Since XAMP PHP is compiled with 32 Bit(Though you have 64 Bit windows Machine)
  2. Download Oracle Client from Download From here

  3. Paste it in C:\instantclient_12_1

  4. Then Set the path to above in System Environment Variable
  5. Then Go to C:\xampp\php\php.ini and uncomment extension=php_oci8_12c.dll
  6. Then Restart the XAMP and it should work without any Issue.

How to style icon color, size, and shadow of Font Awesome Icons

http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/examples/

<i class="icon-thumbs-up icon-3x main-color"></i>

Here I have defined a global style in my CSS where main-color is a class, in my case it is a light blue hue. I find that using inline styles on Icons with Font Awesome works well, esp in the case when you name your colors semantically, i.e. nav-color if you want a separate color for that, etc.

In this example on their website, and how I have written in my example as well, the newest version of Font Awesome has changed the syntax slightly of adjusting the size.Before it used to be:

icon-xxlarge

where now I have to use:

icon-3x

Of course, this all depends on what version of Font Awesome you have installed on your environment. Hope this helps.

How to convert an OrderedDict into a regular dict in python3

A version that handles nested dictionaries and iterables but does not use the json module. Nested dictionaries become dict, nested iterables become list, everything else is returned unchanged (including dictionary keys and strings/bytes/bytearrays).

def recursive_to_dict(obj):
    try:
        if hasattr(obj, "split"):    # is string-like
            return obj
        elif hasattr(obj, "items"):  # is dict-like
            return {k: recursive_to_dict(v) for k, v in obj.items()}
        else:                        # is iterable
            return [recursive_to_dict(e) for e in obj]
    except TypeError: # return everything else
        return obj

Compare 2 arrays which returns difference

I know this is an old question, but I thought I would share this little trick.

var diff = $(old_array).not(new_array).get();

diff now contains what was in old_array that is not in new_array

How to convert string date to Timestamp in java?

tl;dr

java.sql.Timestamp
.valueOf(                           // Class-method parses SQL-style formatted date-time strings.
    "2007-11-11 12:13:14"
)                                   // Returns a `Timestamp` object.
.toInstant() // Converts from terrible legacy classes to modern *java.time* class.

java.sql.Timestamp.valueOf parses SQL format

If you can use the full four digits for the year, your input string of 2007-11-11 12:13:14 would be in standard SQL format assuming this value is meant to be in UTC time zone.

The java.sql.Timestamp class has a valueOf method to directly parse such strings.

String input = "2007-11-11 12:13:14" ;
java.sql.Timestamp ts = java.sql.Timestamp.valueOf( input ) ;

java.time

In Java 8 and later, the java.time framework makes it easier to verify the results. The j.s.Timestamp class has a nasty habit of implicitly applying your JVM’s current default timestamp when generating a string representation via its toString method. In contrast, the java.time classes by default use the standard ISO 8601 formats.

System.out.println( "Output: " + ts.toInstant().toString() );

Initialize value of 'var' in C# to null

var variables still have a type - and the compiler error message says this type must be established during the declaration.

The specific request (assigning an initial null value) can be done, but I don't recommend it. It doesn't provide an advantage here (as the type must still be specified) and it could be viewed as making the code less readable:

var x = (String)null;

Which is still "type inferred" and equivalent to:

String x = null;

The compiler will not accept var x = null because it doesn't associate the null with any type - not even Object. Using the above approach, var x = (Object)null would "work" although it is of questionable usefulness.

Generally, when I can't use var's type inference correctly then

  1. I am at a place where it's best to declare the variable explicitly; or
  2. I should rewrite the code such that a valid value (with an established type) is assigned during the declaration.

The second approach can be done by moving code into methods or functions.

PowerShell Remoting giving "Access is Denied" error

Running the command prompt or Powershell ISE as an administrator fixed this for me.

Python: One Try Multiple Except

Yes, it is possible.

try:
   ...
except FirstException:
   handle_first_one()

except SecondException:
   handle_second_one()

except (ThirdException, FourthException, FifthException) as e:
   handle_either_of_3rd_4th_or_5th()

except Exception:
   handle_all_other_exceptions()

See: http://docs.python.org/tutorial/errors.html

The "as" keyword is used to assign the error to a variable so that the error can be investigated more thoroughly later on in the code. Also note that the parentheses for the triple exception case are needed in python 3. This page has more info: Catch multiple exceptions in one line (except block)

converting a base 64 string to an image and saving it

In my case it works only with two line of code. Test the below C# code:

String dirPath = "C:\myfolder\";
String imgName = "my_mage_name.bmp";

byte[] imgByteArray = Convert.FromBase64String("your_base64_string");
File.WriteAllBytes(dirPath + imgName, imgByteArray);

That's it. Kindly up vote if you really find this solution works for you. Thanks in advance.

Boolean operators ( &&, -a, ||, -o ) in Bash

-a and -o are the older and/or operators for the test command. && and || are and/or operators for the shell. So (assuming an old shell) in your first case,

[ "$1" = 'yes' ] && [ -r $2.txt ]

The shell is evaluating the and condition. In your second case,

[ "$1" = 'yes' -a $2 -lt 3 ]

The test command (or builtin test) is evaluating the and condition.

Of course in all modern or semi-modern shells, the test command is built in to the shell, so there really isn't any or much difference. In modern shells, the if statement can be written:

[[ $1 == yes && -r $2.txt ]]

Which is more similar to modern programming languages and thus is more readable.

How to Identify Microsoft Edge browser via CSS?

For Internet Explorer

@media all and (-ms-high-contrast: none) {
        .banner-wrapper{
            background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.16)
         }
}

For Edge
@supports (-ms-ime-align:auto) {
    .banner-wrapper{
            background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.16);
         }
}

#pragma pack effect

Note that there are other ways of achieving data consistency that #pragma pack offers (for instance some people use #pragma pack(1) for structures that should be sent across the network). For instance, see the following code and its subsequent output:

#include <stdio.h>

struct a {
    char one;
    char two[2];
    char eight[8];
    char four[4];
};

struct b {
    char one;
    short two;
    long int eight;
    int four;
};

int main(int argc, char** argv) {
    struct a twoa[2] = {};
    struct b twob[2] = {};
    printf("sizeof(struct a): %i, sizeof(struct b): %i\n", sizeof(struct a), sizeof(struct b));
    printf("sizeof(twoa): %i, sizeof(twob): %i\n", sizeof(twoa), sizeof(twob));
}

The output is as follows: sizeof(struct a): 15, sizeof(struct b): 24 sizeof(twoa): 30, sizeof(twob): 48

Notice how the size of struct a is exactly what the byte count is, but struct b has padding added (see this for details on the padding). By doing this as opposed to the #pragma pack you can have control of converting the "wire format" into the appropriate types. For instance, "char two[2]" into a "short int" et cetera.

sql ORDER BY multiple values in specific order?

I found a much cleaner solution for this:

ORDER BY array_position(ARRAY['f', 'p', 'i', 'a']::varchar[], x_field)

Note: array_position needs Postgres v9.5 or higher.

How to run a PowerShell script from a batch file

If you want to run a few scripts, you can use Set-executionpolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted and then reset with Set-executionpolicy -ExecutionPolicy Default.

Note that execution policy is only checked when you start its execution (or so it seems) and so you can run jobs in the background and reset the execution policy immediately.

# Check current setting
Get-ExecutionPolicy

# Disable policy
Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
# Choose [Y]es

Start-Job { cd c:\working\directory\with\script\ ; ./ping_batch.ps1 example.com | tee ping__example.com.txt }
Start-Job { cd c:\working\directory\with\script\ ; ./ping_batch.ps1 google.com  | tee ping__google.com.txt  }

# Can be run immediately
Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Default

How to set xlim and ylim for a subplot in matplotlib

You should use the OO interface to matplotlib, rather than the state machine interface. Almost all of the plt.* function are thin wrappers that basically do gca().*.

plt.subplot returns an axes object. Once you have a reference to the axes object you can plot directly to it, change its limits, etc.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

ax1 = plt.subplot(131)
ax1.scatter([1, 2], [3, 4])
ax1.set_xlim([0, 5])
ax1.set_ylim([0, 5])

ax2 = plt.subplot(132)
ax2.scatter([1, 2],[3, 4])
ax2.set_xlim([0, 5])
ax2.set_ylim([0, 5])

and so on for as many axes as you want.

or better, wrap it all up in a loop:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

DATA_x = ([1, 2],
          [2, 3],
          [3, 4])

DATA_y = DATA_x[::-1]

XLIMS = [[0, 10]] * 3
YLIMS = [[0, 10]] * 3

for j, (x, y, xlim, ylim) in enumerate(zip(DATA_x, DATA_y, XLIMS, YLIMS)):
    ax = plt.subplot(1, 3, j + 1)
    ax.scatter(x, y)
    ax.set_xlim(xlim)
    ax.set_ylim(ylim)

Global variables in Java

If you need to update global property, a simple getter/setter wrapper class can be used as global variable. A typical example is shown below.

public class GlobalHolder {

    private static final GlobalHolder INSTANCE = new GlobalHolder();

    private volatile int globalProperty;

    public static GlobalHolder getInstance() {
        return INSTANCE;
    }

    public int getGlobalProperty() {
        return globalProperty;
    }

    public void setGlobalProperty(int globalProperty) {
        this.globalProperty = globalProperty;
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        GlobalHolder.getInstance().setGlobalProperty(10);
        System.out.println(GlobalHolder.getInstance().getGlobalProperty());
    }
}

Why is there no Char.Empty like String.Empty?

myString = myString.Replace('c'.ToString(), "");

OK, this is not particularly elegant for removing letters, since the .Replace method has an overload that takes string parameters. But this works for removing carriage returns, line feeds, tabs, etc. This example removes tab characters:

myString = myString.Replace('\t'.ToString(), "");

How to compare datetime with only date in SQL Server

Please try this. This query can be used for date comparison

select * from [User] U where convert(varchar(10),U.DateCreated, 120) = '2014-02-07'

PHP Undefined Index

The checking of the presence of the member before assigning it is, in my opinion, quite ugly.

Kohana has a useful function to make selecting parameters simple.

You can make your own like so...

function arrayGet($array, $key, $default = NULL)
{
    return isset($array[$key]) ? $array[$key] : $default;
}

And then do something like...

$page = arrayGet($_GET, 'p', 1);

Magento - Retrieve products with a specific attribute value

To Get TEXT attributes added from admin to front end on product listing page.

Thanks Anita Mourya

I have found there is two methods. Let say product attribute called "na_author" is added from backend as text field.

METHOD 1

on list.phtml

<?php $i=0; foreach ($_productCollection as $_product): ?>

FOR EACH PRODUCT LOAD BY SKU AND GET ATTRIBUTE INSIDE FOREACH

<?php
$product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->loadByAttribute('sku',$_product->getSku());
$author = $product['na_author'];
?>

<?php
if($author!=""){echo "<br /><span class='home_book_author'>By ".$author ."</span>";} else{echo "";}
?>

METHOD 2

Mage/Catalog/Block/Product/List.phtml OVER RIDE and set in 'local folder'

i.e. Copy From

Mage/Catalog/Block/Product/List.phtml

and PASTE TO

app/code/local/Mage/Catalog/Block/Product/List.phtml

change the function by adding 2 lines shown in bold below.

protected function _getProductCollection()
{
       if (is_null($this->_productCollection)) {
           $layer = Mage::getSingleton('catalog/layer');
           /* @var $layer Mage_Catalog_Model_Layer */
           if ($this->getShowRootCategory()) {
               $this->setCategoryId(Mage::app()->getStore()->getRootCategoryId());
           }

           // if this is a product view page
           if (Mage::registry('product')) {
               // get collection of categories this product is associated with
               $categories = Mage::registry('product')->getCategoryCollection()
                   ->setPage(1, 1)
                   ->load();
               // if the product is associated with any category
               if ($categories->count()) {
                   // show products from this category
                   $this->setCategoryId(current($categories->getIterator()));
               }
           }

           $origCategory = null;
           if ($this->getCategoryId()) {
               $category = Mage::getModel('catalog/category')->load($this->getCategoryId());

               if ($category->getId()) {
                   $origCategory = $layer->getCurrentCategory();
                   $layer->setCurrentCategory($category);
               }
           }
           $this->_productCollection = $layer->getProductCollection();

           $this->prepareSortableFieldsByCategory($layer->getCurrentCategory());

           if ($origCategory) {
               $layer->setCurrentCategory($origCategory);
           }
       }
       **//CMI-PK added na_author to filter on product listing page//
       $this->_productCollection->addAttributeToSelect('na_author');**
       return $this->_productCollection;

}

and you will be happy to see it....!!

"SSL certificate verify failed" using pip to install packages

One note on the above answers: it is no longer sufficient to add just pypi.python.org to the trusted-hosts in the case where you are behind an HTTPS-intercepting proxy (we have zScaler).

I currently have the following in my pip.ini:

trusted-host = pypi.python.org pypi.org files.pythonhosted.org

Running pip -v install pkg will give you some hints as to which hosts might need to be added.

In CSS Flexbox, why are there no "justify-items" and "justify-self" properties?

I know this doesn't use flexbox, but for the simple use-case of three items (one at left, one at center, one at right), this can be accomplished easily using display: grid on the parent, grid-area: 1/1/1/1; on the children, and justify-self for positioning of those children.

$result = If ($condition) {"true"} Else {"false"}

Everything else is incidental complexity and thus to be avoided.

For use in or as an expression, not just an assignment, wrap it in $(), thus:

write-host  $(If ($condition) {"true"} Else {"false"})

Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed

Only call time pass-by-reference is removed. So change:

call_user_func($func, &$this, &$client ...

To this:

call_user_func($func, $this, $client ...

&$this should never be needed after PHP4 anyway period.

If you absolutely need $client to be passed by reference, update the function ($func) signature instead (function func(&$client) {)

How to apply Hovering on html area tag?

What I did was to create a canvas element that I then position in front of the image map. Then, whenever an area is moused-over, I call a func that gets the coord string for that shape and the shape-type. If it's a poly I use the coords to draw an outline on the canvas. If it's a rect I draw a rect outline. You could easily add code to deal with circles.

You could also set the opacity of the canvas to less than 100% before filling the poly/rect/circle. You could also change the reliance on a global for the canvas's context - this would mean you could deal with more than 1 image-map on the same page.

How can I debug what is causing a connection refused or a connection time out?

How do format a phone number as a String in Java?

If you really need the right way then you can use Google's recently open sourced libphonenumber

How to get first N elements of a list in C#?

var firstFiveItems = myList.Take(5);

Or to slice:

var secondFiveItems = myList.Skip(5).Take(5);

And of course often it's convenient to get the first five items according to some kind of order:

var firstFiveArrivals = myList.OrderBy(i => i.ArrivalTime).Take(5);

Format numbers in thousands (K) in Excel

Non-Americans take note! If you use Excel with "." as 1000 separator, you need to replace the "," with a "." in the formula, such as:

[>=1000]€ #.##0." K";[<=-1000]-€ #.##0." K";0

The code above will display € 62.123 as "€ 62 K".

jquery live hover

WARNING: There is a significant performance penalty with the live version of hover. It's especially noticeable in a large page on IE8.

I am working on a project where we load multi-level menus with AJAX (we have our reasons :). Anyway, I used the live method for the hover which worked great on Chrome (IE9 did OK, but not great). However, in IE8 It not only slowed down the menus (you had to hover for a couple seconds before it would drop), but everything on the page was painfully slow, including scrolling and even checking simple checkboxes.

Binding the events directly after they loaded resulted in adequate performance.

How to set the allowed url length for a nginx request (error code: 414, uri too large)

For anyone having issues with this on https://forge.laravel.com, I managed to get this to work using a compilation of SO answers;

You will need the sudo password.

sudo nano /etc/nginx/conf.d/uploads.conf

Replace contents with the following;

fastcgi_buffer_size 32k;

client_max_body_size 24M;
client_body_buffer_size 128k;

client_header_buffer_size 5120k;

How to get exit code when using Python subprocess communicate method?

This worked for me. It also prints the output returned by the child process

How to get substring in C

If the task is only copying 4 characters, try for loops. If it's going to be more advanced and you're asking for a function, try strncpy. http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstring/strncpy/

strncpy(sub1, baseString, 4);
strncpy(sub1, baseString+4, 4);
strncpy(sub1, baseString+8, 4);

or

for(int i=0; i<4; i++)
    sub1[i] = baseString[i];
sub1[4] = 0;
for(int i=0; i<4; i++)
    sub2[i] = baseString[i+4];
sub2[4] = 0;
for(int i=0; i<4; i++)
    sub3[i] = baseString[i+8];
sub3[4] = 0;

Prefer strncpy if possible.

Good ways to sort a queryset? - Django

I just wanted to illustrate that the built-in solutions (SQL-only) are not always the best ones. At first I thought that because Django's QuerySet.objects.order_by method accepts multiple arguments, you could easily chain them:

ordered_authors = Author.objects.order_by('-score', 'last_name')[:30]

But, it does not work as you would expect. Case in point, first is a list of presidents sorted by score (selecting top 5 for easier reading):

>>> auths = Author.objects.order_by('-score')[:5]
>>> for x in auths: print x
...
James Monroe (487)
Ulysses Simpson (474)
Harry Truman (471)
Benjamin Harrison (467)
Gerald Rudolph (464)

Using Alex Martelli's solution which accurately provides the top 5 people sorted by last_name:

>>> for x in sorted(auths, key=operator.attrgetter('last_name')): print x
...
Benjamin Harrison (467)
James Monroe (487)
Gerald Rudolph (464)
Ulysses Simpson (474)
Harry Truman (471)

And now the combined order_by call:

>>> myauths = Author.objects.order_by('-score', 'last_name')[:5]
>>> for x in myauths: print x
...
James Monroe (487)
Ulysses Simpson (474)
Harry Truman (471)
Benjamin Harrison (467)
Gerald Rudolph (464)

As you can see it is the same result as the first one, meaning it doesn't work as you would expect.

How to indent a few lines in Markdown markup?

If you're working with bullet points, try this:

<ul>
  <li>Coffee</li>
  <li>Tea

Completely Remove MySQL Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I just had this same issue. It turns out for me, mysql was already installed and working. I just didn't know how to check.

$ ps aux | grep mysql

This will show you if mysql is already running. If it is it should return something like this:

What is the difference between document.location.href and document.location?

document.location is a synonym for window.location that has been deprecated for almost as long as JavaScript has existed. Don't use it.

location is a structured object, with properties corresponding to the parts of the URL. location.href is the whole URL in a single string. Assigning a string to either is defined to cause the same kind of navigation, so take your pick.

I consider writing to location.href = something to be marginally better as it's slightly more explicit about what it's doing. You generally want to avoid just location = something as it looks misleadingly like a variable assignment. window.location = something is fine though.

Getting scroll bar width using JavaScript

this worked for me..

 function getScrollbarWidth() {
    var div = $('<div style="width:50px;height:50px;overflow:hidden;position:absolute;top:-200px;left:-200px;"><div style="height:100px;"></div>');
    $('body').append(div);
    var w1 = $('div', div).innerWidth();
    div.css('overflow-y', 'scroll');
    var w2 = $('div', div).innerWidth();
    $(div).remove();
    return (w1 - w2);
}

How to concatenate two strings to build a complete path

The following script catenates several (relative/absolute) paths (BASEPATH) with a relative path (SUBDIR):

shopt -s extglob
SUBDIR="subdir"
for BASEPATH in '' / base base/ base// /base /base/ /base//; do
  echo "BASEPATH = \"$BASEPATH\" --> ${BASEPATH%%+(/)}${BASEPATH:+/}$SUBDIR"
done

The output of which is:

BASEPATH = "" --> subdir
BASEPATH = "/" --> /subdir
BASEPATH = "base" --> base/subdir
BASEPATH = "base/" --> base/subdir
BASEPATH = "base//" --> base/subdir
BASEPATH = "/base" --> /base/subdir
BASEPATH = "/base/" --> /base/subdir
BASEPATH = "/base//" --> /base/subdir

The shopt -s extglob is only necessary to allow BASEPATH to end on multiple slashes (which is probably nonsense). Without extended globing you can just use:

echo ${BASEPATH%%/}${BASEPATH:+/}$SUBDIR

which would result in the less neat but still working:

BASEPATH = "" --> subdir
BASEPATH = "/" --> /subdir
BASEPATH = "base" --> base/subdir
BASEPATH = "base/" --> base/subdir
BASEPATH = "base//" --> base//subdir
BASEPATH = "/base" --> /base/subdir
BASEPATH = "/base/" --> /base/subdir
BASEPATH = "/base//" --> /base//subdir

How to send Request payload to REST API in java?

The following code works for me.

//escape the double quotes in json string
String payload="{\"jsonrpc\":\"2.0\",\"method\":\"changeDetail\",\"params\":[{\"id\":11376}],\"id\":2}";
String requestUrl="https://git.eclipse.org/r/gerrit/rpc/ChangeDetailService";
sendPostRequest(requestUrl, payload);

method implementation:

public static String sendPostRequest(String requestUrl, String payload) {
    try {
        URL url = new URL(requestUrl);
        HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();

        connection.setDoInput(true);

        connection.setRequestMethod("POST");
        connection.setRequestProperty("Accept", "application/json");
        connection.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/json; charset=UTF-8");
        OutputStreamWriter writer = new OutputStreamWriter(connection.getOutputStream(), "UTF-8");
        writer.write(payload);
        writer.close();
        BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream()));
        StringBuffer jsonString = new StringBuffer();
        String line;
        while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
                jsonString.append(line);
        }
        br.close();
        connection.disconnect();
        return jsonString.toString();
    } catch (Exception e) {
            throw new RuntimeException(e.getMessage());

How to set up file permissions for Laravel?

I have installed laravel on EC2 instance and have spent 3 days to fix the permission error and at last fixed it. So I want to share this experience with other one.

  1. user problem When I logged in ec2 instance, my username is ec2-user and usergroup is ec2-user. And the website works under of httpd user: apache: apache so we should set the permission for apache.

  2. folder and file permission A. folder structure first, you should make sure that you have such folder structure like this under storage

    storage

    • framework
      • cache
      • sessions
      • views
    • logs The folder structure can be different according to the laravel version you use. my laravel version is 5.2 and you could find the appropriate structure according to your version.

B. permission At first, I see the instructions to set 777 under storage to remove file_put_contents: failed to open stream error. So i setup permission 777 to storage chmod -R 777 storage But the error was not fixed. here, you should consider one: who writes files to storage/ sessions and views. That is not ec2-user, but apache. Yes, right. "apache" user writes file (session file, compiled view file) to the session and view folder. So you should give apache to write permission to these folder. By default: SELinux say the /var/www folder should be read-only by the apache deamon.

So for this, we can set the selinux as 0: setenforce 0

This can solve problem temporally, but this makes the mysql not working. so this is not so good solution.

You can set a read-write context to the storage folder with: (remember to setenforce 1 to test it out)

chcon -Rt httpd_sys_content_rw_t storage/

Then your problem will be fixed.

  1. and don't forget this composer update php artisan cache:clear

    These commands will be useful after or before.

    I hope you save your time. Good luck. Hacken

Saving an image in OpenCV

If you use C++, it is best to use C++ interface:

using namespace cv;
// Capture the Image from the webcam
VideoCapture cap(0);

// Get the frame
Mat save_img; cap >> save_img;

if(save_img.empty())
{
  std::cerr << "Something is wrong with the webcam, could not get frame." << std::endl;
}
// Save the frame into a file
imwrite("test.jpg", save_img); // A JPG FILE IS BEING SAVED

Difference between Spring MVC and Struts MVC

Convert hex string to int

It's simply too big for an int (which is 4 bytes and signed).

Use

Long.parseLong("AA0F245C", 16);

Gradle's dependency cache may be corrupt (this sometimes occurs after a network connection timeout.)

Maybe you can run ./gradlew build -s in the terminal, the stacktrace would show you where went wrong.

python: creating list from string

I know this is old but here's a one liner list comprehension:

data = ['word1, 23, 12','word2, 10, 19','word3, 11, 15']

[[int(item) if item.isdigit() else item for item in items.split(', ')] for items in data]

or

[int(item) if item.isdigit() else item for items in data for item in items.split(', ')]

Reading CSV files using C#

CSV can get complicated real fast.

Use something robust and well-tested:
FileHelpers: www.filehelpers.net

The FileHelpers are a free and easy to use .NET library to import/export data from fixed length or delimited records in files, strings or streams.

Checking if a number is an Integer in Java

One example more :)

double a = 1.00

if(floor(a) == a) {
   // a is an integer
} else {
   //a is not an integer.
}

In this example, ceil can be used and have the exact same effect.

Saving a Numpy array as an image

There's opencv for python (documentation here).

import cv2
import numpy as np

img = ... # Your image as a numpy array

cv2.imwrite("filename.png", img)

useful if you need to do more processing other than saving.

Alternative to a goto statement in Java

Try the code below. It works for me.

for (int iTaksa = 1; iTaksa <=8; iTaksa++) { // 'Count 8 Loop is  8 Taksa

    strTaksaStringStar[iCountTaksa] = strTaksaStringCount[iTaksa];

An error occurred while updating the entries. See the inner exception for details

Click "View Detail..." a window will open where you can expand the "Inner Exception" my guess is that when you try to delete the record there is a reference constraint violation. The inner exception will give you more information on that so you can modify your code to remove any references prior to deleting the record.

Sorted array list in Java

You could subclass ArrayList, and call Collections.sort(this) after any element is added - you would need to override two versions of add, and two of addAll, to do this.

Performance would not be as good as a smarter implementation which inserted elements in the right place, but it would do the job. If addition to the list is rare, the cost amortised over all operations on the list should be low.

How can I change from SQL Server Windows mode to mixed mode (SQL Server 2008)?

From MSDN:

To change security authentication mode:

In SQL Server Management Studio Object Explorer, right-click the server, and then click Properties.

On the Security page, under Server authentication, select the new server authentication mode, and then click OK.

In the SQL Server Management Studio dialog box, click OK to acknowledge the requirement to restart SQL Server.

In Object Explorer, right-click your server, and then click Restart. If SQL Server Agent is running, it must also be restarted.

To enable the SA login:

In Object Explorer, expand Security, expand Logins, right-click SA, and then click Properties.

On the General page, you might have to create and confirm a password for the login.

On the Status page, in the Login section, click Enabled, and then click OK.

Can someone explain __all__ in Python?

Linked to, but not explicitly mentioned here, is exactly when __all__ is used. It is a list of strings defining what symbols in a module will be exported when from <module> import * is used on the module.

For example, the following code in a foo.py explicitly exports the symbols bar and baz:

__all__ = ['bar', 'baz']

waz = 5
bar = 10
def baz(): return 'baz'

These symbols can then be imported like so:

from foo import *

print(bar)
print(baz)

# The following will trigger an exception, as "waz" is not exported by the module
print(waz)

If the __all__ above is commented out, this code will then execute to completion, as the default behaviour of import * is to import all symbols that do not begin with an underscore, from the given namespace.

Reference: https://docs.python.org/tutorial/modules.html#importing-from-a-package

NOTE: __all__ affects the from <module> import * behavior only. Members that are not mentioned in __all__ are still accessible from outside the module and can be imported with from <module> import <member>.

How to create a blank/empty column with SELECT query in oracle?

I guess you will get ORA-01741: illegal zero-length identifier if you use the following

SELECT "" AS Contact  FROM Customers;

And if you use the following 2 statements, you will be getting the same null value populated in the column.

SELECT '' AS Contact FROM Customers; OR SELECT null AS Contact FROM Customers;

Corrupted Access .accdb file: "Unrecognized Database Format"

WE had this problem on one machine and not another...the solution is to look in control panel at the VERSION of the Access Database Engine 2007 component. If it is version 12.0.45, you need to run the service pack 3 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=27835

The above link will install version 12.0.66...and this fixes the problem...thought I would post it since I haven't seen this solution on any other forum.

Copying text outside of Vim with set mouse=a enabled

Press shift while selecting with the mouse. This will make mouse selection behave as if mouse=a was not enabled.

Note: this trick also applies to "middle button paste": if you want to paste in vim text that was selected outside, press shift while clicking the middle button. Just make sure that insert mode is activated when you do that (you may also want to :set paste to avoid unexpected effects).

OS X (mac): hold alt/option while selecting (source)

Is there a better way to run a command N times in bash?

If you are OK doing it periodically, you could run the following command to run it every 1 sec indefinitely. You can put other custom checks in place to run it n number of times.

watch -n 1 some_command

If you wish to have visual confirmation of changes, append --differences prior to the ls command.

According to the OSX man page, there's also

The --cumulative option makes highlighting "sticky", presenting a running display of all positions that have ever changed. The -t or --no-title option turns off the header showing the interval, command, and current time at the top of the display, as well as the following blank line.

How to remove empty cells in UITableView?

Using UITableViewController

The solution accepted will change the height of the TableViewCell. To fix that, perform following steps:

  1. Write code snippet given below in ViewDidLoad method.

    tableView.tableFooterView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];

  2. Add following method in the TableViewClass.m file.

    - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
    {
        return (cell height set on storyboard);
    }

That's it. You can build and run your project.

Real world use of JMS/message queues?

I have seen JMS used in different commercial and academic projects. JMS can easily come into your picture, whenever you want to have a totally decoupled distributed systems. Generally speaking, when you need to send your request from one node, and someone in your network takes care of it without/with giving the sender any information about the receiver.

In my case, I have used JMS in developing a message-oriented middleware (MOM) in my thesis, where specific types of object-oriented objects are generated in one side as your request, and compiled and executed on the other side as your response.

In Angular, What is 'pathmatch: full' and what effect does it have?

RouterModule.forRoot([
      { path: 'welcome', component: WelcomeComponent },
      { path: '', redirectTo: 'welcome', pathMatch: 'full' },
      { path: '**', component: 'pageNotFoundComponent' }
    ])

Case 1 pathMatch:'full': In this case, when app is launched on localhost:4200 (or some server) the default page will be welcome screen, since the url will be https://localhost:4200/

If https://localhost:4200/gibberish this will redirect to pageNotFound screen because of path:'**' wildcard

Case 2 pathMatch:'prefix':

If the routes have { path: '', redirectTo: 'welcome', pathMatch: 'prefix' }, now this will never reach the wildcard route since every url would match path:'' defined.

VBA test if cell is in a range

    Dim inters As Range

    Set rng2 = Worksheets("Gen2").Range("K7")
    Set rng1 = ExcludeCell(Worksheets("Gen2").Range("K6:K8"), rng2)

    If (rng2.Parent.name = rng1.Parent.name) Then
        Dim ints As Range
        MsgBox rng1.Address & vbCrLf _
        & rng2.Address & vbCrLf _

        For Each cell In rng1
            MsgBox cell.Address
            Set ints = Application.Intersect(cell, rng2)
            If (Not (ints Is Nothing)) Then
                MsgBox "Yes intersection"
            Else
                MsgBox "No intersection"
            End If
        Next cell
    End If
End Sub

How to use gitignore command in git

git ignore is a convention in git. Setting a file by the name of .gitignore will ignore the files in that directory and deeper directories that match the patterns that the file contains. The most common use is just to have one file like this at the top level. But you can add others deeper in your directory structure to ignore even more patterns or stop ignoring them for that directory and subsequently deeper ones.

Likewise, you can "unignore" certain files in a deeper structure or a specific subset (ie, you ignore *.log but want to still track important.log) by specifying patterns beginning with !. eg:

*.log !important.log

will ignore all log files but will track files named important.log

If you are tracking files you meant to ignore, delete them, add the pattern to you .gitignore file and add all the changes

# delete files that should be ignored, or untrack them with
# git rm --cached <file list or pattern>

# stage all the changes git commit
git add -A

from now on your repository will not have them tracked.

If you would like to clean up your history, you can

# if you want to correct the last 10 commits
git rebase -i --preserve-merges HEAD~10

then mark each commit with e or edit. Save the plan. Now git will replay your history stopping at each commit you marked with e. Here you delete the files you don't want, git add -A and then git rebase --continue until you are done. Your history will be clean. Make sure you tell you coworkers as you will have to force push and they will have to rebase what they didn't push yet.

Can "git pull --all" update all my local branches?

I use the sync subcommand of hub to automate this. I have alias git=hub in my .bash_profile, so the command I type is:

git sync

This updates all local branches that have a matching upstream branch. From the man page:

  • If the local branch is outdated, fast-forward it;
  • If the local branch contains unpushed work, warn about it;
  • If the branch seems merged and its upstream branch was deleted, delete it.

It also handles stashing/unstashing uncommitted changes on the current branch.

I used to use a similar tool called git-up, but it's no longer maintained, and git sync does almost exactly the same thing.

Does static constexpr variable inside a function make sense?

In addition to given answer, it's worth noting that compiler is not required to initialize constexpr variable at compile time, knowing that the difference between constexpr and static constexpr is that to use static constexpr you ensure the variable is initialized only once.

Following code demonstrates how constexpr variable is initialized multiple times (with same value though), while static constexpr is surely initialized only once.

In addition the code compares the advantage of constexpr against const in combination with static.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>
#include <cassert>
#include <sstream>

const short const_short = 0;
constexpr short constexpr_short = 0;

// print only last 3 address value numbers
const short addr_offset = 3;

// This function will print name, value and address for given parameter
void print_properties(std::string ref_name, const short* param, short offset)
{
    // determine initial size of strings
    std::string title = "value \\ address of ";
    const size_t ref_size = ref_name.size();
    const size_t title_size = title.size();
    assert(title_size > ref_size);

    // create title (resize)
    title.append(ref_name);
    title.append(" is ");
    title.append(title_size - ref_size, ' ');

    // extract last 'offset' values from address
    std::stringstream addr;
    addr << param;
    const std::string addr_str = addr.str();
    const size_t addr_size = addr_str.size();
    assert(addr_size - offset > 0);

    // print title / ref value / address at offset
    std::cout << title << *param << " " << addr_str.substr(addr_size - offset) << std::endl;
}

// here we test initialization of const variable (runtime)
void const_value(const short counter)
{
    static short temp = const_short;
    const short const_var = ++temp;
    print_properties("const", &const_var, addr_offset);

    if (counter)
        const_value(counter - 1);
}

// here we test initialization of static variable (runtime)
void static_value(const short counter)
{
    static short temp = const_short;
    static short static_var = ++temp;
    print_properties("static", &static_var, addr_offset);

    if (counter)
        static_value(counter - 1);
}

// here we test initialization of static const variable (runtime)
void static_const_value(const short counter)
{
    static short temp = const_short;
    static const short static_var = ++temp;
    print_properties("static const", &static_var, addr_offset);

    if (counter)
        static_const_value(counter - 1);
}

// here we test initialization of constexpr variable (compile time)
void constexpr_value(const short counter)
{
    constexpr short constexpr_var = constexpr_short;
    print_properties("constexpr", &constexpr_var, addr_offset);

    if (counter)
        constexpr_value(counter - 1);
}

// here we test initialization of static constexpr variable (compile time)
void static_constexpr_value(const short counter)
{
    static constexpr short static_constexpr_var = constexpr_short;
    print_properties("static constexpr", &static_constexpr_var, addr_offset);

    if (counter)
        static_constexpr_value(counter - 1);
}

// final test call this method from main()
void test_static_const()
{
    constexpr short counter = 2;

    const_value(counter);
    std::cout << std::endl;

    static_value(counter);
    std::cout << std::endl;

    static_const_value(counter);
    std::cout << std::endl;

    constexpr_value(counter);
    std::cout << std::endl;

    static_constexpr_value(counter);
    std::cout << std::endl;
}

Possible program output:

value \ address of const is 1 564
value \ address of const is 2 3D4
value \ address of const is 3 244

value \ address of static is 1 C58
value \ address of static is 1 C58
value \ address of static is 1 C58

value \ address of static const is 1 C64
value \ address of static const is 1 C64
value \ address of static const is 1 C64

value \ address of constexpr is 0 564
value \ address of constexpr is 0 3D4
value \ address of constexpr is 0 244

value \ address of static constexpr is 0 EA0
value \ address of static constexpr is 0 EA0
value \ address of static constexpr is 0 EA0

As you can see yourself constexpr is initilized multiple times (address is not the same) while static keyword ensures that initialization is performed only once.

Passing arguments to "make run"

TL;DR don't try to do this

$ make run arg

instead create script:

#! /bin/sh
# rebuild prog if necessary
make prog
# run prog with some arguments
./prog "$@"

and do this:

$ ./buildandrunprog.sh arg

answer to the stated question:

you can use a variable in the recipe

run: prog
    ./prog $(var)

then pass a variable assignment as an argument to make

$ make run var=arg

this will execute ./prog arg.

but beware of pitfalls. i will elaborate about the pitfalls of this method and other methods further down.

answer to the assumed intention behind the question:

the assumption: you want to run prog with some arguments but have it rebuild before running if necessary.

the answer: create a script which rebuilds if necessary then runs prog with args

#! /bin/sh
# rebuild prog if necessary
make prog
# run prog with some arguments
./prog "$@"

this script makes the intention very clear. it uses make to do what it is good for: building. it uses a shell script to do what it is good for: batch processing.

plus you can do whatever else you might need with the full flexibility and expressiveness of a shell script without all the caveats of a makefile.

also the calling syntax is now practically identical:

$ ./buildandrunprog.sh foo "bar baz"

compare to:

$ ./prog foo "bar baz"

contrast to

$ make run var="foo bar\ baz"

background:

make is not designed to pass arguments to a target. all arguments on the command line are interpreted either as a goal (a.k.a. target), as an option, or as a variable assignment.

so if you run this:

$ make run foo --wat var=arg

make will interpret run and foo as goals (targets) to update according to their recipes. --wat as an option for make. and var=arg as a variable assignment.

for more details see: https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Goals.html#Goals

for the terminology see: https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Rule-Introduction.html#Rule-Introduction

about the variable assignment method and why i recommend against it

$ make run var=arg

and the variable in the recipe

run: prog
    ./prog $(var)

this is the most "correct" and straightforward way to pass arguments to a recipe. but while it can be used to run a program with arguments it is certainly not designed to be used that way. see https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Overriding.html#Overriding

in my opinion this has one big disadvantage: what you want to do is run prog with argument arg. but instead of writing:

$ ./prog arg

you are writing:

$ make run var=arg

this gets even more awkward when trying to pass multiple arguments or arguments containing spaces:

$ make run var="foo bar\ baz"
./prog foo bar\ baz
argcount: 2
arg: foo
arg: bar baz

compare to:

$ ./prog foo "bar baz"
argcount: 2
arg: foo
arg: bar baz

for the record this is what my prog looks like:

#! /bin/sh
echo "argcount: $#"
for arg in "$@"; do
  echo "arg: $arg"
done

also note that you should not put $(var) in quotes in the makefile:

run: prog
    ./prog "$(var)"

because then prog will always get just one argument:

$ make run var="foo bar\ baz"
./prog "foo bar\ baz"
argcount: 1
arg: foo bar\ baz

all this is why i recommend against this route.

for completeness here are some other methods to "pass arguments to make run".

method 1:

run: prog
    ./prog $(filter-out $@, $(MAKECMDGOALS))

%:
    @true

super short explanation: filter out current goal from list of goals. create catch all target (%) which does nothing to silently ignore the other goals.

method 2:

ifeq (run, $(firstword $(MAKECMDGOALS)))
  runargs := $(wordlist 2, $(words $(MAKECMDGOALS)), $(MAKECMDGOALS))
  $(eval $(runargs):;@true)
endif

run:
    ./prog $(runargs)

super short explanation: if the target is run then remove the first goal and create do nothing targets for the remaining goals using eval.

both will allow you to write something like this

$ make run arg1 arg2

for deeper explanation study the manual of make: https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/index.html

problems of method 1:

  • arguments that start with a dash will be interpreted by make and not passed as a goal.

    $ make run --foo --bar

    workaround

    $ make run -- --foo --bar

  • arguments with an equal sign will be interpreted by make and not passed

    $ make run foo=bar

    no workaround

  • arguments with spaces is awkward

    $ make run foo "bar\ baz"

    no workaround

  • if an argument happens to be run (equal to the target) it will also be removed

    $ make run foo bar run

    will run ./prog foo bar instead of ./prog foo bar run

    workaround possible with method 2

  • if an argument is a legitimate target it will also be run.

    $ make run foo bar clean

    will run ./prog foo bar clean but also the recipe for the target clean (assuming it exists).

    workaround possible with method 2

  • when you mistype a legitimate target it will be silently ignored because of the catch all target.

    $ make celan

    will just silently ignore celan.

    workaround is to make everything verbose. so you see what happens. but that creates a lot of noise for the legitimate output.

problems of method 2:

  • if an argument has same name as an existing target then make will print a warning that it is being overwritten.

    no workaround that i know of

  • arguments with an equal sign will still be interpreted by make and not passed

    no workaround

  • arguments with spaces is still awkward

    no workaround

  • arguments with space breaks eval trying to create do nothing targets.

    workaround: create the global catch all target doing nothing as above. with the problem as above that it will again silently ignore mistyped legitimate targets.

  • it uses eval to modify the makefile at runtime. how much worse can you go in terms of readability and debugability and the Principle of least astonishment.

    workaround: don't do this!!1 instead write a shell script that runs make and then runs prog.

i have only tested using gnu make. other makes may have different behaviour.

TL;DR don't try to do this

$ make run arg

instead create script:

#! /bin/sh
# rebuild prog if necessary
make prog
# run prog with some arguments
./prog "$@"

and do this:

$ ./buildandrunprog.sh arg

You can either pass this value with javascript or using a data-interval="false" attribute.

How can I get the class name from a C++ object?

Just write simple template:

}

struct A {} a;

void main() {
   std::cout << getClassName(a);
}

Can I run multiple programs in a Docker container?

I had similar requirement of running a LAMP stack, Mongo DB and my own services

Docker is OS based virtualisation, which is why it isolates its container around a running process, hence it requires least one process running in FOREGROUND.

So you provide your own startup script as the entry point, thus your startup script becomes an extended Docker image script, in which you can stack any number of the services as far as AT LEAST ONE FOREGROUND SERVICE IS STARTED, WHICH TOO TOWARDS THE END

So my Docker image file has two line below in the very end:

COPY myStartupScript.sh /usr/local/myscripts/myStartupScript.sh
CMD ["/bin/bash", "/usr/local/myscripts/myStartupScript.sh"]

In my script I run all MySQL, MongoDB, Tomcat etc. In the end I run my Apache as a foreground thread.

source /etc/apache2/envvars
/usr/sbin/apache2 -DFOREGROUND

This enables me to start all my services and keep the container alive with the last service started being in the foreground

Hope it helps

UPDATE: Since I last answered this question, new things have come up like Docker compose, which can help you run each service on its own container, yet bind all of them together as dependencies among those services, try knowing more about docker-compose and use it, it is more elegant way unless your need does not match with it.

best case scenarios pick the first item in lists, worst case ones use nonexistant value.

here are the results:

BenchmarkBelongsToMapWorstCase-4 2000000 787 ns/op BenchmarkBelongsToSwitchWorstCase-4 2000000000 0.35 ns/op BenchmarkBelongsToListWorstCase-4 100000000 14.7 ns/op BenchmarkBelongsToMapBestCase-4 2000000 683 ns/op BenchmarkBelongsToSwitchBestCase-4 100000000 10.6 ns/op BenchmarkBelongsToListBestCase-4 100000000 10.4 ns/op

Switch wins all the way, worst case is surpassingly quicker than best case. Maps are the worst and list is closer to switch.

So the moral is: If you have a static, reasonably small list, switch statement is the way to go.

Is a GUID unique 100% of the time?

The hardest part is not about generating a duplicated Guid.

The hardest part is designed a database to store all of the generated ones to check if it is actually duplicated.

From WIKI:

For example, the number of random version 4 UUIDs which need to be generated in order to have a 50% probability of at least one collision is 2.71 quintillion, computed as follows:

enter image description here

This number is equivalent to generating 1 billion UUIDs per second for about 85 years, and a file containing this many UUIDs, at 16 bytes per UUID, would be about 45 exabytes, many times larger than the largest databases currently in existence, which are on the order of hundreds of petabytes

How to filter data in dataview

Eg:

Datatable newTable =  new DataTable();

            foreach(string s1 in list)
            {
                if (s1 != string.Empty) {
                    dvProducts.RowFilter = "(CODE like '" + serachText + "*') AND (CODE <> '" + s1 + "')";
                    foreach(DataRow dr in dvProducts.ToTable().Rows)
                    {
                       newTable.ImportRow(dr);
                    }
                }
            }
ListView1.DataSource = newTable;
ListView1.DataBind();

Arithmetic overflow error converting numeric to data type numeric

My guess is that you're trying to squeeze a number greater than 99999.99 into your decimal fields. Changing it to (8,3) isn't going to do anything if it's greater than 99999.999 - you need to increase the number of digits before the decimal. You can do this by increasing the precision (which is the total number of digits before and after the decimal). You can leave the scale the same unless you need to alter how many decimal places to store. Try decimal(9,2) or decimal(10,2) or whatever.

You can test this by commenting out the insert #temp and see what numbers the select statement is giving you and see if they are bigger than your column can handle.

dplyr change many data types

You can use the standard evaluation version of mutate_each (which is mutate_each_) to change the column classes:

dat %>% mutate_each_(funs(factor), l1) %>% mutate_each_(funs(as.numeric), l2)

npm WARN package.json: No repository field

As dan_nl stated, you can add a private fake repository in package.json. You don't even need name and version for it:

{
  ...,
  "repository": {
    "private": true
  }
}

Update: This feature is undocumented and might not work. Choose the following option.

Better still: Set the private flag directly. This way npm doesn't ask for a README file either:

{
  "name": ...,
  "description": ...,
  "version": ...,
  "private": true
}

Cannot obtain value of local or argument as it is not available at this instruction pointer, possibly because it has been optimized away

In my case, I was working on a web api project and although the project was set correctly to full debug, I was still seeing this error every time I attached to the IIS process I was trying to debug. Then I realized the publish profile was set to use the Release configuration. So one more place to check is your publish profile if you're using the 'Publish' feature of your dotnet web api project.

Can I start the iPhone simulator without "Build and Run"?

This is an older question, but if you simply want to run the simulator from the Xcode 4.5 UI, you can do: Xcode > Open Developer Tool > iOS Simulator.

Can clearInterval() be called inside setInterval()?

Yes you can. You can even test it:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var i = 0;_x000D_
var timer = setInterval(function() {_x000D_
  console.log(++i);_x000D_
  if (i === 5) clearInterval(timer);_x000D_
  console.log('post-interval'); //this will still run after clearing_x000D_
}, 200);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

In this example, this timer clears when i reaches 5.

What is a typedef enum in Objective-C?

A user defined type that has the possible values of kCircle, kRectangle, or kOblateSpheroid. The values inside the enum (kCircle, etc) are visible outside the enum, though. It's important to keep that in mind (int i = kCircle; is valid, for example).

Alarm Manager Example

Here's an example with Alarm Manager using Kotlin:

class MainActivity : AppCompatActivity() {

    val editText: EditText by bindView(R.id.edit_text)
    val timePicker: TimePicker by bindView(R.id.time_picker)
    val buttonSet: Button by bindView(R.id.button_set)
    val buttonCancel: Button by bindView(R.id.button_cancel)
    val relativeLayout: RelativeLayout by bindView(R.id.activity_main)
    var notificationId = 0

    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main)

        timePicker.setIs24HourView(true)

        val alarmManager = getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE) as AlarmManager

        buttonSet.setOnClickListener {
            if (editText.text.isBlank()) {
                Toast.makeText(applicationContext, "Title is Required!!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
                return@setOnClickListener
            }
            alarmManager.set(
                AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP,
                Calendar.getInstance().apply {

                    set(Calendar.MINUTE, timePicker.minute)
                    set(Calendar.SECOND, 0)
                }.timeInMillis,
                PendingIntent.getBroadcast(

            )
            Toast.makeText(applicationContext, "SET!! ${editText.text}", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
            reset()
        }

        buttonCancel.setOnClickListener {
            alarmManager.cancel(
                PendingIntent.getBroadcast(
                    applicationContext, 0, Intent(applicationContext, AlarmBroadcastReceiver::class.java), 0))
            Toast.makeText(applicationContext, "CANCEL!!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
        }
    }

        }
        editText.setText("")

Switch to selected tab by name in Jquery-UI Tabs

The only practical way to get the zero-based index of your tabs is to step through each of the elements that make the tabset (the LI>A s) and match on their inner text. It can probably be done in a cleaner way, but here's how I did it.

$('#tabs ul li a').each(function(i) {
    if (this.text == 'Two') {$('#reqTab').val(i)}
});

$("#tabs").tabs({
    selected: $('#reqTab').val()
});

You can see that I used a hidden <input id="reqTab"> field in the page to make sure the variable moved from one function to the other.

NOTE: There is a little bit of a gotcha -- selecting tabs after the tabset is activated doesn't seem to work as advertised in jQuery UI 1.8, which is why I used the identified index from my first pass in order to initialize the tabset with the desired tab selected.

How to include scripts located inside the node_modules folder?

I would use the path npm module and then do something like this:

var path = require('path');
app.use('/scripts', express.static(path.join(__dirname, 'node_modules/bootstrap/dist')));

IMPORTANT: we use path.join to make paths joining using system agnostic way, i.e. on windows and unix we have different path separators (/ and )

How to Multi-thread an Operation Within a Loop in Python

Edit 2018-02-06: revision based on this comment

Edit: forgot to mention that this works on Python 2.7.x

There's multiprocesing.pool, and the following sample illustrates how to use one of them:

from multiprocessing.pool import ThreadPool as Pool
# from multiprocessing import Pool

pool_size = 5  # your "parallelness"

# define worker function before a Pool is instantiated
def worker(item):
    try:
        api.my_operation(item)
    except:
        print('error with item')

pool = Pool(pool_size)

for item in items:
    pool.apply_async(worker, (item,))

pool.close()
pool.join()

Now if you indeed identify that your process is CPU bound as @abarnert mentioned, change ThreadPool to the process pool implementation (commented under ThreadPool import). You can find more details here: http://docs.python.org/2/library/multiprocessing.html#using-a-pool-of-workers

reCAPTCHA ERROR: Invalid domain for site key

There is another point must be noted before regenerating keys that resolve 90% issue.

for example your xampp directory is C:\xampp

and htdocs folder is C:\xampp\htdocs

we want to open page called: example-cap.html and page is showing error "invalid domain for site key"

USE YOUR LOCALHOST ADDRESS in browser address like:

localhost/example-cap.html

this will resolve your issue

DONOT USE ADDRESS c:\xampp\htdocs\example-cap.html this will generate error

Ignore .classpath and .project from Git

The git solution for such scenarios is setting SKIP-WORKTREE BIT. Run only the following command:

git update-index --skip-worktree .classpath .gitignore

It is used when you want git to ignore changes of files that are already managed by git and exist on the index. This is a common use case for config files.

Running git rm --cached doesn't work for the scenario mentioned in the question. If I simplify the question, it says:

How to have .classpath and .project on the repo while each one can change it locally and git ignores this change?

As I commented under the accepted answer, the drawback of git rm --cached is that it causes a change in the index, so you need to commit the change and then push it to the remote repository. As a result, .classpath and .project won't be available on the repo while the PO wants them to be there so anyone that clones the repo for the first time, they can use it.

What is SKIP-WORKTREE BIT?

Based on git documentaion:

Skip-worktree bit can be defined in one (long) sentence: When reading an entry, if it is marked as skip-worktree, then Git pretends its working directory version is up to date and read the index version instead. Although this bit looks similar to assume-unchanged bit, its goal is different from assume-unchanged bit’s. Skip-worktree also takes precedence over assume-unchanged bit when both are set.

More details is available here.

python: Appending a dictionary to a list - I see a pointer like behavior

You are correct in that your list contains a reference to the original dictionary.

a.append(b.copy()) should do the trick.

Bear in mind that this makes a shallow copy. An alternative is to use copy.deepcopy(b), which makes a deep copy.

<script> tag vs <script type = 'text/javascript'> tag

In HTML 4, the type attribute is required. In my experience, all browsers will default to text/javascript if it is absent, but that behaviour is not defined anywhere. While you can in theory leave it out and assume it will be interpreted as JavaScript, it's invalid HTML, so why not add it.

In HTML 5, the type attribute is optional and defaults to text/javascript

Use <script type="text/javascript"> or simply <script> (if omitted, the type is the same). Do not use <script language="JavaScript">; the language attribute is deprecated

Execute external program

This is not right. Here's how you should use Runtime.exec(). You might also try its more modern cousin, ProcessBuilder:

Java Runtime.getRuntime().exec() alternatives

Java Best Practices to Prevent Cross Site Scripting

Use both. In fact refer a guide like the OWASP XSS Prevention cheat sheet, on the possible cases for usage of output encoding and input validation.

Input validation helps when you cannot rely on output encoding in certain cases. For instance, you're better off validating inputs appearing in URLs rather than encoding the URLs themselves (Apache will not serve a URL that is url-encoded). Or for that matter, validate inputs that appear in JavaScript expressions.

Ultimately, a simple thumb rule will help - if you do not trust user input enough or if you suspect that certain sources can result in XSS attacks despite output encoding, validate it against a whitelist.

Do take a look at the OWASP ESAPI source code on how the output encoders and input validators are written in a security library.

Adding List<t>.add() another list

List<T>.Add adds a single element. Instead, use List<T>.AddRange to add multiple values.

Additionally, List<T>.AddRange takes an IEnumerable<T>, so you don't need to convert tripDetails into a List<TripDetails>, you can pass it directly, e.g.:

tripDetailsCollection.AddRange(tripDetails);

How to verify static void method has been called with power mockito

If you are mocking the behavior (with something like doNothing()) there should really be no need to call to verify*(). That said, here's my stab at re-writing your test method:

@PrepareForTest({InternalUtils.class})
@RunWith(PowerMockRunner.class)
public class InternalServiceTest { //Note the renaming of the test class.
   public void testProcessOrder() {
        //Variables
        InternalService is = new InternalService();
        Order order = mock(Order.class);

        //Mock Behavior
        when(order.isSuccessful()).thenReturn(true);
        mockStatic(Internalutils.class);
        doNothing().when(InternalUtils.class); //This is the preferred way
                                               //to mock static void methods.
        InternalUtils.sendEmail(anyString(), anyString(), anyString(), anyString());

        //Execute
        is.processOrder(order);

        //Verify
        verifyStatic(InternalUtils.class); //Similar to how you mock static methods
                                           //this is how you verify them.
        InternalUtils.sendEmail(anyString(), anyString(), anyString(), anyString());
   }
}

I grouped into four sections to better highlight what is going on:

1. Variables

I choose to declare any instance variables / method arguments / mock collaborators here. If it is something used in multiple tests, consider making it an instance variable of the test class.

2. Mock Behavior

This is where you define the behavior of all of your mocks. You're setting up return values and expectations here, prior to executing the code under test. Generally speaking, if you set the mock behavior here you wouldn't need to verify the behavior later.

3. Execute

Nothing fancy here; this just kicks off the code being tested. I like to give it its own section to call attention to it.

4. Verify

This is when you call any method starting with verify or assert. After the test is over, you check that the things you wanted to have happen actually did happen. That is the biggest mistake I see with your test method; you attempted to verify the method call before it was ever given a chance to run. Second to that is you never specified which static method you wanted to verify.

Additional Notes

This is mostly personal preference on my part. There is a certain order you need to do things in but within each grouping there is a little wiggle room. This helps me quickly separate out what is happening where.

I also highly recommend going through the examples at the following sites as they are very robust and can help with the majority of the cases you'll need:

Properly escape a double quote in CSV

Not only double quotes, you will be in need for single quote ('), double quote ("), backslash (\) and NUL (the NULL byte).

Use fputcsv() to write, and fgetcsv() to read, which will take care of all.

Rename computer and join to domain in one step with PowerShell

As nobody answer, I try something :

I think I understand why Attent one does not work. It's because joining a computer to a domain is somehow also renaming the computer (the domain name part, enter in the name of the machine).

So do you try to do it in full WMI way, you've got a method in Win32_ComputerSystem class called JoinDomainOrWorkgroup. Doing it on the same level perhaps gives you more chance to make it work.

Is there a "standard" format for command line/shell help text?

Typically, your help output should include:

  • Description of what the app does
  • Usage syntax, which:
    • Uses [options] to indicate where the options go
    • arg_name for a required, singular arg
    • [arg_name] for an optional, singular arg
    • arg_name... for a required arg of which there can be many (this is rare)
    • [arg_name...] for an arg for which any number can be supplied
    • note that arg_name should be a descriptive, short name, in lower, snake case
  • A nicely-formatted list of options, each:
    • having a short description
    • showing the default value, if there is one
    • showing the possible values, if that applies
    • Note that if an option can accept a short form (e.g. -l) or a long form (e.g. --list), include them together on the same line, as their descriptions will be the same
  • Brief indicator of the location of config files or environment variables that might be the source of command line arguments, e.g. GREP_OPTS
  • If there is a man page, indicate as such, otherwise, a brief indicator of where more detailed help can be found

Note further that it's good form to accept both -h and --help to trigger this message and that you should show this message if the user messes up the command-line syntax, e.g. omits a required argument.

SQL Inner join 2 tables with multiple column conditions and update

You need to do

set column_xpto = x.xpto_New
    ,column2 = x.column2New

   inner join table_xptoNew xptoNew ON xpto.bla = xptoNew.Bla
where <clause where>

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

EntityManager.persist() makes an entity persistent whereas EntityManager.flush() actually runs the query on your database.

So, when you call EntityManager.flush(), queries for inserting/updating/deleting associated entities are executed in the database. Any constraint failures (column width, data types, foreign key) will be known at this time.

The concrete behaviour depends on whether flush-mode is AUTO or COMMIT.

get one item from an array of name,value JSON

I don't know anything about jquery so can't help you with that, but as far as Javascript is concerned you have an array of objects, so what you will only be able to access the names & values through each array element. E.g arr[0].name will give you 'k1', arr[1].value will give you 'hi'.

Maybe you want to do something like:

var obj = {};

obj.k1 = "abc";
obj.k2 = "hi";
obj.k3 = "oa";

alert ("obj.k2:" + obj.k2);

Cannot implicitly convert type 'int' to 'short'

Adding two Int16 values result in an Int32 value. You will have to cast it to Int16:

Int16 answer = (Int16) (firstNo + secondNo);

You can avoid this problem by switching all your numbers to Int32.

Links not going back a directory?

There are two type of paths: absolute and relative. This is basically the same for files in your hard disc and directories in a URL.

Absolute paths start with a leading slash. They always point to the same location, no matter where you use them:

  • /pages/en/faqs/faq-page1.html

Relative paths are the rest (all that do not start with slash). The location they point to depends on where you are using them

  • index.html is:
    • /pages/en/faqs/index.html if called from /pages/en/faqs/faq-page1.html
    • /pages/index.html if called from /pages/example.html
    • etc.

There are also two special directory names: . and ..:

  • . means "current directory"
  • .. means "parent directory"

You can use them to build relative paths:

  • ../index.html is /pages/en/index.html if called from /pages/en/faqs/faq-page1.html
  • ../../index.html is /pages/index.html if called from /pages/en/faqs/faq-page1.html

Once you're familiar with the terms, it's easy to understand what it's failing and how to fix it. You have two options:

  • Use absolute paths
  • Fix your relative paths

Ignoring a class property in Entity Framework 4.1 Code First

You can use the NotMapped attribute data annotation to instruct Code-First to exclude a particular property

public class Customer
{
    public int CustomerID { set; get; }
    public string FirstName { set; get; }
    public string LastName{ set; get; }
    [NotMapped]
    public int Age { set; get; }
}

[NotMapped] attribute is included in the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace.

You can alternatively do this with Fluent API overriding OnModelCreating function in your DBContext class:

protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)
{
   modelBuilder.Entity<Customer>().Ignore(t => t.LastName);
   base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder);
}

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh295847(v=vs.103).aspx

The version I checked is EF 4.3, which is the latest stable version available when you use NuGet.

Edit : SEP 2017

Asp.NET Core(2.0)

Data annotation

If you are using asp.net core (2.0 at the time of this writing), The [NotMapped] attribute can be used on the property level.

public class Customer
{
    public int Id { set; get; }
    public string FirstName { set; get; }
    public string LastName { set; get; }
    [NotMapped]
    public int FullName { set; get; }
}

Fluent API

public class SchoolContext : DbContext
{
    public SchoolContext(DbContextOptions<SchoolContext> options) : base(options)
    {
    }
    protected override void OnModelCreating(ModelBuilder modelBuilder)
    {
        modelBuilder.Entity<Customer>().Ignore(t => t.FullName);
        base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder);
    }
    public DbSet<Customer> Customers { get; set; }

I've slightly modified Peter's answer here to create a reusable, non-interactive shell script called git-split.sh:

#!/bin/sh

if [[ $# -ne 2 ]] ; then
  echo "Usage: git-split.sh original copy"
  exit 0
fi

git mv "$1" "$2"
git commit -n -m "Split history $1 to $2 - rename file to target-name"
REV=`git rev-parse HEAD`
git reset --hard HEAD^
git mv "$1" temp
git commit -n -m "Split history $1 to $2 - rename source-file to temp"
git merge $REV
git commit -a -n -m "Split history $1 to $2 - resolve conflict and keep both files"
git mv temp "$1"
git commit -n -m "Split history $1 to $2 - restore name of source-file"

require(vendor/autoload.php): failed to open stream

Proper autoload.php configuration:

A) Quick answer:

Your autoload.php path is wrong. ie. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\vendor\autoload.php To date: you need to change it to: C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\vendor\autoload.php

B) Steps with example: We will take facebook/php-graph-sdk as an example; change to Package Name as needed.

  1. Install composer.exe
  2. Open CMD Prompt. + R + type CMD
  3. Run This command: composer require facebook/graph-sdk
  4. Include path in your PHP page: require_once 'C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\vendor\autoload.php';
  5. Define configuration Secrets and Access Token for your package...etc.
  6. Happy codinig.

C) Further details:

Installing composer on windows will set this default path for your pacakges; you can find them there and include the autoloader path:

C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\vendor

For the same question you asked; the answer was this path for WAMP Server 64 BIT for Windows.

Then simply in your PHP Application change this:

require_once __DIR__ . '/vendor/autoload.php';

To:

require_once 'C:\Users\<Windows User Name>\vendor\autoload.php';

Find your windows username under C:\Users\

Before all this, as pointed before in B) , you need to run this command:

composer require <package name>

for facebook php SDK for example:

composer require facebook/graph-sdk

Thank you for asking this question; appreciated as it helped me fix similar issue and ended writing this simple tutorial.

Connect to SQL Server through PDO using SQL Server Driver

Well that's the best part about PDOs is that it's pretty easy to access any database. Provided you have installed those drivers, you should be able to just do:

$db = new PDO("sqlsrv:Server=YouAddress;Database=YourDatabase", "Username", "Password");

How to merge multiple lists into one list in python?

import itertools
ab = itertools.chain(['it'], ['was'], ['annoying'])
list(ab)

Just another method....

How do I iterate and modify Java Sets?

You could create a mutable wrapper of the primitive int and create a Set of those:

class MutableInteger
{
    private int value;
    public int getValue()
    {
        return value;
    }
    public void setValue(int value)
    {
        this.value = value;
    }
}

class Test
{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        Set<MutableInteger> mySet = new HashSet<MutableInteger>();
        // populate the set
        // ....

        for (MutableInteger integer: mySet)
        {
            integer.setValue(integer.getValue() + 1);
        }
    }
}

Of course if you are using a HashSet you should implement the hash, equals method in your MutableInteger but that's outside the scope of this answer.

Choosing a file in Python with simple Dialog

Convert NSDate to NSString

there are a number of NSDate helpers on the web, I tend to use:

https://github.com/billymeltdown/nsdate-helper/

Readme extract below:

  NSString *displayString = [NSDate stringForDisplayFromDate:date];

This produces the following kinds of output:

‘3:42 AM’ – if the date is after midnight today
‘Tuesday’ – if the date is within the last seven days
‘Mar 1’ – if the date is within the current calendar year
‘Mar 1, 2008’ – else ;-)

How to get the hostname of the docker host from inside a docker container on that host without env vars

I'm adding this because it's not mentioned in any of the other answers. You can give a container a specific hostname at runtime with the -h directive.

docker run -h=my.docker.container.example.com ubuntu:latest

You can use backticks (or whatever equivalent your shell uses) to get the output of hosthame into the -h argument.

docker run -h=`hostname` ubuntu:latest

There is a caveat, the value of hostname will be taken from the host you run the command from, so if you want the hostname of a virtual machine that's running your docker container then using hostname as an argument may not be correct if you are using the host machine to execute docker commands on the virtual machine.

Is there are way to make a child DIV's width wider than the parent DIV using CSS?

Assuming the parent has a fixed width, e.g #page { width: 1000px; } and is centered #page { margin: auto; }, you want the child to fit the width of browser viewport you could simply do:

#page {
    margin: auto;
    width: 1000px;
}

.fullwidth {
    margin-left: calc(500px - 50vw); /* 500px is half of the parent's 1000px */
    width: 100vw;
}

Adding to the classpath on OSX

If your shell is tcsh or csh, you can set it in /etc/profile. Open terminal, "vim /etc/profile" and add the following line:

setenv CLASSPATH (insert your classpath here)

How to use Chrome's network debugger with redirects

Another great solution to debug the Network calls before redirecting to other pages is to select the beforeunload event break point

This way you assure to break the flow right before it redirecting it to another page, this way all network calls, network data and console logs are still there.

This solution is best when you want to check what is the response of the calls

Chrome beforeunload event break point

P.S: You can also use XHR break points if you want to stop right before a specific call or any call (see image example) XHR break point

Multiple arguments to function called by pthread_create()?

The args of print_the_arguments is arguments, so you should use:

struct arg_struct *args = (struct arg_struct *)arguments.

How to cast Object to boolean?

If the object is actually a Boolean instance, then just cast it:

boolean di = (Boolean) someObject;

The explicit cast will do the conversion to Boolean, and then there's the auto-unboxing to the primitive value. Or you can do that explicitly:

boolean di = ((Boolean) someObject).booleanValue();

If someObject doesn't refer to a Boolean value though, what do you want the code to do?

Node.js setting up environment specific configs to be used with everyauth

An elegant way is to use .env file to locally override production settings. No need for command line switches. No need for all those commas and brackets in a config.json file. See my answer here

Example: on my machine the .env file is this:

NODE_ENV=dev
TWITTER_AUTH_TOKEN=something-needed-for-api-calls

My local .env overrides any environment variables. But on the staging or production servers (maybe they're on heroku.com) the environment variables are pre-set to stage NODE_ENV=stage or production NODE_ENV=prod.

Embedding VLC plugin on HTML page

I found this piece of code somewhere in the web. Maybe it helps you and I give you an update so far I accomodated it for the same purpose... Maybe I don't.... who the futt knows... with all the nogodders and dobedders in here :-/

function runVLC(target, stream)
{
var support=true
var addr='rtsp://' + window.location.hostname + stream

}
else{
support=false
error.empty().html('Error: browser not supported!')
error.show()
if (support){
var vlc=document.getElementById('vlc')
if (vlc){
var options=new Array(':network-caching=300') /* set additional vlc--options */
try{ /* error handling */
var id = vlc.playlist.add(addr,'',options)
vlc.playlist.playItem(id)
}
catch (e){

Clear contents of cells in VBA using column reference

The issue is not with the with statement, it is on the Range function, it doesn't accept the absolute cell value.. it should be like Range("A4:B100").. you can refer the following thread for reference..

following code should work.. Convert cells(1,1) into "A1" and vice versa

LastColData = Sheets(WSNAME).Range("A4").End(xlToRight).Column
            LastRowData = Sheets(WSNAME).Range("A4").End(xlDown).Row
            Rng = "A4:" & Sheets(WSNAME).Cells(LastRowData, LastColData).Address(RowAbsolute:=False, ColumnAbsolute:=False)

Dictionary of dictionaries in Python?

dictionary's setdefault is a good way to update an existing dict entry if it's there, or create a new one if it's not all in one go:

Looping style:

# This is our sample data
data = [("Milter", "Miller", 4), ("Milter", "Miler", 4), ("Milter", "Malter", 2)]

# dictionary we want for the result
dictionary = {}

# loop that makes it work
for realName, falseName, position in data:
    dictionary.setdefault(realName, {})[falseName] = position

dictionary now equals:

{'Milter': {'Malter': 2, 'Miler': 4, 'Miller': 4}}

Using msbuild to execute a File System Publish Profile

Actually I merged all your answers to my own solution how to solve the above problem:

  1. I create the pubxml file according my needs
  2. Then I copy all the parameters from pubxml file to my own list of parameters "/p:foo=bar" for msbuild.exe
  3. I throw away the pubxml file

The result is like that:

msbuild /t:restore /t:build /p:WebPublishMethod=FileSystem /p:publishUrl=C:\builds\MyProject\ /p:DeleteExistingFiles=True /p:LastUsedPlatform="Any CPU" /p:Configuration=Release

How can I do a line break (line continuation) in Python?

Put a \ at the end of your line or enclose the statement in parens ( .. ). From IBM:

b = ((i1 < 20) and
     (i2 < 30) and
     (i3 < 40))

or

b = (i1 < 20) and \
    (i2 < 30) and \

React Native Border Radius with background color

Never give borderRadius to your <Text /> always wrap that <Text /> inside your <View /> or in your <TouchableOpacity/>.

borderRadius on <Text /> will work perfectly on Android devices. But on IOS devices it won't work.

So keep this in your practice to wrap your <Text/> inside your <View/> or on <TouchableOpacity/> and then give the borderRadius to that <View /> or <TouchableOpacity /> so that it will work on both Android as well as on IOS devices.

For example:-

<TouchableOpacity style={{borderRadius: 15}}>
   <Text>Button Text</Text>
</TouchableOpacity>

Fetch API request timeout?

Using a promise race solution will leave the request hanging and still consume bandwidth in the background and lower the max allowed concurrent request being made while it's still in process.

Instead use the AbortController to actually abort the request, Here is an example

const controller = new AbortController()

// 5 second timeout:
const timeoutId = setTimeout(() => controller.abort(), 5000)

fetch(url, { signal: controller.signal }).then(response => {
  // completed request before timeout fired

  // If you only wanted to timeout the request, not the response, add:
  // clearTimeout(timeoutId)
})

AbortController can be used for other things as well, not only fetch but for readable/writable streams as well. More newer functions (specially promise based ones) will use this more and more. NodeJS have also implemented AbortController into its streams/filesystem as well. I know web bluetooth are looking into it also. Now it can also be used with addEventListener option and have it stop listening when the signal ends

Java: object to byte[] and byte[] to object converter (for Tokyo Cabinet)

        ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();
        ObjectClass object = objectMapper.readValue(data, ObjectClass.class);

When or Why to use a "SET DEFINE OFF" in Oracle Database

By default, SQL Plus treats '&' as a special character that begins a substitution string. This can cause problems when running scripts that happen to include '&' for other reasons:

SQL> insert into customers (customer_name) values ('Marks & Spencers Ltd');
Enter value for spencers:
old 1: insert into customers (customer_name) values ('Marks & Spencers Ltd')
new 1: insert into customers (customer_name) values ('Marks Ltd')

1 row created.

SQL> select customer_name from customers;

CUSTOMER_NAME
------------------------------
Marks  Ltd

If you know your script includes (or may include) data containing '&' characters, and you do not want the substitution behaviour as above, then use set define off to switch off the behaviour while running the script:

SQL> set define off
SQL> insert into customers (customer_name) values ('Marks & Spencers Ltd');

1 row created.

SQL> select customer_name from customers;

CUSTOMER_NAME
------------------------------
Marks & Spencers Ltd

You might want to add set define on at the end of the script to restore the default behaviour.

make html text input field grow as I type?

Here is an example with only CSS and Content Editable:

jsFiddle Example

CSS

span
{
    border: solid 1px black;
}
div
{
    max-width: 200px;
}

HTML

<div>
    <span contenteditable="true">sdfsd</span>
</div>

Important note regarding contenteditable

Making an HTML element contenteditable lets users paste copied HTML elements inside of this element. This may not be ideal for your use case, so keep that in mind when choosing to use it.

Regex to match words of a certain length

Method 1

Word boundaries would work perfectly here, such as with:

\b\w{3,8}\b
\b\w{2,}
\b\w{,10}\b
\b\w{5}\b

RegEx Demo 1

Java

Some languages such as Java and C++ are double-escape required:

\\b\\w{3,8}\\b
\\b\\w{2,}
\\b\\w{,10}\\b
\\b\\w{5}\\b

PS: \\b\\w{,10}\\b may not work for all languages or flavors.

Test 1

import java.util.regex.Matcher;
import java.util.regex.Pattern;

public class RegularExpression{

    public static void main(String[] args){

        final String regex = "\\b\\w{3,8}\\b";
        final String string = "words with length three to eight";

        final Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(regex, Pattern.MULTILINE);
        final Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(string);

        while (matcher.find()) {
            System.out.println("Full match: " + matcher.group(0));
        }

    }
}

Output 1

Full match: words
Full match: with
Full match: length
Full match: three
Full match: eight

Method 2

Another good-to-know method is to use negative lookarounds:

(?<!\w)\w{3,8}(?!\w)
(?<!\w)\w{2,}
(?<!\w)\w{,10}(?!\w)
(?<!\w)\w{5}(?!\w)

Java

(?<!\\w)\\w{3,8}(?!\\w)
(?<!\\w)\\w{2,}
(?<!\\w)\\w{,10}(?!\\w)
(?<!\\w)\\w{5}(?!\\w)

RegEx Demo 2

Test 2

import java.util.regex.Matcher;
import java.util.regex.Pattern;

public class RegularExpression{

    public static void main(String[] args){

        final String regex = "(?<!\\w)\\w{1,10}(?!\\w)";
        final String string = "words with length three to eight";

        final Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(regex, Pattern.MULTILINE);
        final Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(string);

        while (matcher.find()) {
            System.out.println("Full match: " + matcher.group(0));
        }

    }
}

Output 2

Full match: words
Full match: with
Full match: length
Full match: three
Full match: to
Full match: eight

RegEx Circuit

jex.im visualizes regular expressions:

If you wish to simplify/modify/explore the expression, it's been explained on the top right panel of regex101.com. If you'd like, you can also watch in this link, how it would match against some sample inputs.

How to Diff between local uncommitted changes and origin

If you want to compare files visually you can use:

git difftool

It will start your diff app automatically for each changed file.

PS: If you did not set a diff app, you can do it like in the example below(I use Winmerge):

git config --global merge.tool winmerge
git config --replace --global mergetool.winmerge.cmd "\"C:\Program Files (x86)\WinMerge\WinMergeU.exe\" -e -u -dl \"Base\" -dr \"Mine\" \"$LOCAL\" \"$REMOTE\" \"$MERGED\""
git config --global mergetool.prompt false

gnuplot - adjust size of key/legend

To adjust the length of the samples:

set key samplen X

(default is 4)

To adjust the vertical spacing of the samples:

set key spacing X

(default is 1.25)

and (for completeness), to adjust the fontsize:

set key font "<face>,<size>"

(default depends on the terminal)

And of course, all these can be combined into one line:

set key samplen 2 spacing .5 font ",8"

Note that you can also change the position of the key using set key at <position> or any one of the pre-defined positions (which I'll just defer to help key at this point)

Shift column in pandas dataframe up by one?

shift column gdp up:

df.gdp = df.gdp.shift(-1)

and then remove the last row

Javascript array sort and unique

This is actually very simple. It is much easier to find unique values, if the values are sorted first:

function sort_unique(arr) {
  if (arr.length === 0) return arr;
  arr = arr.sort(function (a, b) { return a*1 - b*1; });
  var ret = [arr[0]];
  for (var i = 1; i < arr.length; i++) { //Start loop at 1: arr[0] can never be a duplicate
    if (arr[i-1] !== arr[i]) {
      ret.push(arr[i]);
    }
  }
  return ret;
}
console.log(sort_unique(['237','124','255','124','366','255']));
//["124", "237", "255", "366"]

Join/Where with LINQ and Lambda

It could be something like

var myvar = from a in context.MyEntity
            join b in context.MyEntity2 on a.key equals b.key
            select new { prop1 = a.prop1, prop2= b.prop1};

Error Running React Native App From Terminal (iOS)

In my case the SDKROOT environment variable was wrong, which referred to an old version of iPhoneOSxx.x.sdk. (Perhaps this would have automatically resolved itself after a reboot?)

You can check by running echo $SDKROOT and verifying that it's a valid path.

I fixed it by updating in .bash_profile:

export SDKROOT=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneOS11.2.sdk

How can I count the rows with data in an Excel sheet?

Try this scenario:

Array = A1:C7. A1-A3 have values, B2-B6 have value and C1, C3 and C6 have values.

To get a count of the number of rows add a column D (you can hide it after formulas are set up) and in D1 put formula =If(Sum(A1:C1)>0,1,0). Copy the formula from D1 through D7 (for others searching who are not excel literate, the numbers in the sum formula will change to the row you are on and this is fine).

Now in C8 make a sum formula that adds up the D column and the answer should be 6. For visually pleasing purposes hide column D.

Jquery Smooth Scroll To DIV - Using ID value from Link

Here is my solution:

<!-- jquery smooth scroll to id's -->
<script>
$(function() {
  $('a[href*=\\#]:not([href=\\#])').click(function() {
    if (location.pathname.replace(/^\//,'') == this.pathname.replace(/^\//,'') && location.hostname == this.hostname) {
      var target = $(this.hash);
      target = target.length ? target : $('[name=' + this.hash.slice(1) +']');
      if (target.length) {
        $('html,body').animate({
          scrollTop: target.offset().top
        }, 500);
        return false;
      }
    }
  });
});
</script>

With just this snippet you can use an unlimited number of hash-links and corresponding ids without having to execute a new script for each.

I already explained how it works in another thread here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/28631803/4566435 (or here's a direct link to my blog post)

For clarifications, let me know. Hope it helps!

How to query all the GraphQL type fields without writing a long query?

Unfortunately what you'd like to do is not possible. GraphQL requires you to be explicit about specifying which fields you would like returned from your query.

How do I modify the URL without reloading the page?

Below is the function to change the URL without reloading the page. It is only supported for HTML5.

How to read if a checkbox is checked in PHP?

You can do it with the short if:

$check_value = isset($_POST['my_checkbox_name']) ? 1 : 0;

or with the new PHP7 Null coalescing operator

$check_value = $_POST['my_checkbox_name'] ?? 0;

Java executors: how to be notified, without blocking, when a task completes?

Use a CountDownLatch.

It's from java.util.concurrent and it's exactly the way to wait for several threads to complete execution before continuing.

In order to achieve the callback effect you're looking after, that does require a little additional extra work. Namely, handling this by yourself in a separate thread which uses the CountDownLatch and does wait on it, then goes on about notifying whatever it is you need to notify. There is no native support for callback, or anything similar to that effect.

EDIT: now that I further understand your question, I think you are reaching too far, unnecessarily. If you take a regular SingleThreadExecutor, give it all the tasks, and it will do the queueing natively.

Embedding Windows Media Player for all browsers

December 2020 :

  • We have now Firefox 83.0 and Chrome 87.0
  • Internet Explorer is dead, it has been replaced by the new Chromium-based Edge 87.0
  • Silverlight is dead
  • Windows XP is dead
  • WMV is not a standard : https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_media.asp

To answer the question :

  • You have to convert your WMV file to another format : MP4, WebM or Ogg video.
  • Then embed it in your page with the HTML 5 <video> element.

I think this question should be closed.

How to get Android application id?

If you are using the new** Gradle build system then getPackageName will oddly return application Id, not package name. So MasterGaurav's answer is correct but he doesn't need to start off with ++

If by application id, you're referring to package name...

See more about the differences here.

** not so new at this point

++ I realize that his answer made perfect sense in 2011

Restart android machine

I think the only way to do this is to run another machine in parallel and use that machine to issue commands to your android box similar to how you would with a phone. If you have issues with the IP changing you can reserve an ip on your router and have the machine grab that one instead of asking the routers DHCP for one. This way you can ping the machine and figure out if it's done rebooting to continue the script.

Service vs IntentService in the Android platform

If someone can show me an example of something that can be done with an IntentService and can not be done with a Service and the other way around.

By definition, that is impossible. IntentService is a subclass of Service, written in Java. Hence, anything an IntentService does, a Service could do, by including the relevant bits of code that IntentService uses.

Starting a service with its own thread is like starting an IntentService. Is it not?

The three primary features of an IntentService are:

  • the background thread

  • the automatic queuing of Intents delivered to onStartCommand(), so if one Intent is being processed by onHandleIntent() on the background thread, other commands queue up waiting their turn

  • the automatic shutdown of the IntentService, via a call to stopSelf(), once the queue is empty

Any and all of that could be implemented by a Service without extending IntentService.
