Which characters are valid/invalid in a JSON key name?

No. Any valid string is a valid key. It can even have " as long as you escape it:

{"The \"meaning\" of life":42}

There is perhaps a chance you'll encounter difficulties loading such values into some languages, which try to associate keys with object field names. I don't know of any such cases, however.

send Content-Type: application/json post with node.js

Best way to select random rows PostgreSQL

A variation of the materialized view "Possible alternative" outlined by Erwin Brandstetter is possible.

Say, for example, that you don't want duplicates in the randomized values that are returned. So you will need to set a boolean value on the primary table containing your (non-randomized) set of values.

Assuming this is the input table:

id_values  id  |   used
           ----+--------
           1   |   FALSE
           2   |   FALSE
           3   |   FALSE
           4   |   FALSE
           5   |   FALSE
           ...

Populate the ID_VALUES table as needed. Then, as described by Erwin, create a materialized view that randomizes the ID_VALUES table once:

CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW id_values_randomized AS
  SELECT id
  FROM id_values
  ORDER BY random();

Note that the materialized view does not contain the used column, because this will quickly become out-of-date. Nor does the view need to contain other columns that may be in the id_values table.

In order to obtain (and "consume") random values, use an UPDATE-RETURNING on id_values, selecting id_values from id_values_randomized with a join, and applying the desired criteria to obtain only relevant possibilities. For example:

UPDATE id_values
SET used = TRUE
WHERE id_values.id IN
  (SELECT i.id
    FROM id_values_randomized r INNER JOIN id_values i ON i.id = r.id
    WHERE (NOT i.used)
    LIMIT 5)
RETURNING id;

Change LIMIT as necessary -- if you only need one random value at a time, change LIMIT to 1.

With the proper indexes on id_values, I believe the UPDATE-RETURNING should execute very quickly with little load. It returns randomized values with one database round-trip. The criteria for "eligible" rows can be as complex as required. New rows can be added to the id_values table at any time, and they will become accessible to the application as soon as the materialized view is refreshed (which can likely be run at an off-peak time). Creation and refresh of the materialized view will be slow, but it only needs to be executed when new id's are added to the id_values table.

Use ffmpeg to add text subtitles

I tried using MP4Box for this task, but it couldn't handle the M4V I was dealing with. I had success embedding the SRT as soft subtitles with ffmpeg with the following command line:

ffmpeg -i input.m4v -i input.srt -vcodec copy -acodec copy -scodec copy -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -y output.mkv

Like you I had to use an MKV output file - I wasn't able to create an M4V file.

How to launch PowerShell (not a script) from the command line

If you go to C:\Windows\system32\Windowspowershell\v1.0 (and C:\Windows\syswow64\Windowspowershell\v1.0 on x64 machines) in Windows Explorer and double-click powershell.exe you will see that it opens PowerShell with a black background. The PowerShell console shows up as blue when opened from the start menu because the console properties for shortcuts to powershell.exe can be set independently from the default properties.

To set the default options, font, colors and layout, open a PowerShell console, type Alt-Space, and select the Defaults menu option.

Running start powershell from cmd.exe should start a new console with your default settings.

Get Root Directory Path of a PHP project

When you say that

$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']

contains this path:

D:/workspace

Then D: is what you are looking for, isn't it? In that case you could explode the string by slashes and return the first one:

$pathInPieces = explode('/', $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']);
echo $pathInPieces[0];

This will output the server's root directory.

Update: When you use the constant DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR instead of the hardcoded slash ('/') this code is also working under Windows.

Update 2: The $_SERVER global variable is not always available. On command line (cli) for example. So you should use __DIR__ instead of $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']. __DIR__ returns the path of the php file itself.

How to pause a YouTube player when hiding the iframe?

Here's a jQuery take on RobW's answer for use hiding /pausing an iframe in a modal window:

    function toggleVideo(state) {
        if(state == 'hide'){
            $('#video-div').modal('hide');
            document.getElementById('video-iframe'+id).contentWindow.postMessage('{"event":"command","func":"pauseVideo","args":""}', '*');

            document.getElementById('video-iframe'+id).contentWindow.postMessage('{"event":"command","func":"playVideo","args":""}', '*');
        }
    }

The html elements referred to are the modal div itself (#video-div) calling the show / hide methods, and the iframe (#video-iframe) which has the video url as is src="" and has the suffix enablejsapi=1? which enables programmatic control of the player (ex. .

OpenCV C++/Obj-C: Detecting a sheet of paper / Square Detection

Unless there is some other requirement not specified, I would simply convert your color image to grayscale and work with that only (no need to work on the 3 channels, the contrast present is too high already). Also, unless there is some specific problem regarding resizing, I would work with a downscaled version of your images, since they are relatively large and the size adds nothing to the problem being solved. Then, finally, your problem is solved with a median filter, some basic morphological tools, and statistics (mostly for the Otsu thresholding, which is already done for you).

Here is what I obtain with your sample image and some other image with a sheet of paper I found around:

enter image description here enter image description here

The median filter is used to remove minor details from the, now grayscale, image. It will possibly remove thin lines inside the whitish paper, which is good because then you will end with tiny connected components which are easy to discard. After the median, apply a morphological gradient (simply dilation - erosion) and binarize the result by Otsu. The morphological gradient is a good method to keep strong edges, it should be used more. Then, since this gradient will increase the contour width, apply a morphological thinning. Now you can discard small components.

At this point, here is what we have with the right image above (before drawing the blue polygon), the left one is not shown because the only remaining component is the one describing the paper:

enter image description here

Given the examples, now the only issue left is distinguishing between components that look like rectangles and others that do not. This is a matter of determining a ratio between the area of the convex hull containing the shape and the area of its bounding box; the ratio 0.7 works fine for these examples. It might be the case that you also need to discard components that are inside the paper, but not in these examples by using this method (nevertheless, doing this step should be very easy especially because it can be done through OpenCV directly).

For reference, here is a sample code in Mathematica:

f = Import["http://thwartedglamour.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/my-coffee-table-1-sa.jpg"]
f = ImageResize[f, ImageDimensions[f][[1]]/4]
g = MedianFilter[ColorConvert[f, "Grayscale"], 2]
h = DeleteSmallComponents[Thinning[
     Binarize[ImageSubtract[Dilation[g, 1], Erosion[g, 1]]]]]
convexvert = ComponentMeasurements[SelectComponents[
     h, {"ConvexArea", "BoundingBoxArea"}, #1 / #2 > 0.7 &],
     "ConvexVertices"][[All, 2]]
(* To visualize the blue polygons above: *)
Show[f, Graphics[{EdgeForm[{Blue, Thick}], RGBColor[0, 0, 1, 0.5],
     Polygon @@ convexvert}]]

If there are more varied situations where the paper's rectangle is not so well defined, or the approach confuses it with other shapes -- these situations could happen due to various reasons, but a common cause is bad image acquisition -- then try combining the pre-processing steps with the work described in the paper "Rectangle Detection based on a Windowed Hough Transform".

What does the "$" sign mean in jQuery or JavaScript?

In jQuery, the $ sign is just an alias to jQuery(), then an alias to a function.

This page reports:

Basic syntax is: $(selector).action()

  • A dollar sign to define jQuery
  • A (selector) to "query (or find)" HTML elements
  • A jQuery action() to be performed on the element(s)

What is the difference between XAMPP or WAMP Server & IIS?

WAMP: acronym for Windows Operating System, Apache(Web server), MySQL Database and PHP Language.

XAMPP: acronym for X (any Operating System), Apache (Web server), MySQL Database, PHP Language and PERL.

XAMPP and WampServer are both free packages of WAMP, with additional applications/tools, put together by different people.

Their differences are in the format/structure of the package, the configurations, and the included management applications.

In short: XAMPP supports more OSes and includes more features

How to mount the android img file under linux?

Another option would be to use the File Explorer in DDMS (Eclipse SDK), you can see the whole file system there and download/upload files to the desired place. That way you don't have to mount and deal with images. Just remember to set your device as USB debuggable (from Developer Tools)

Python: Best way to add to sys.path relative to the current running script

There is a problem with every answer provided that can be summarized as "just add this magical incantation to the beginning of your script. See what you can do with just a line or two of code." They will not work in every possible situation!

For example, one such magical incantation uses __file__. Unfortunately, if you package your script using cx_Freeze or you are using IDLE, this will result in an exception.

Another such magical incantation uses os.getcwd(). This will only work if you are running your script from the command prompt and the directory containing your script is the current working directory (that is you used the cd command to change into the directory prior to running the script). Eh gods! I hope I do not have to explain why this will not work if your Python script is in the PATH somewhere and you ran it by simply typing the name of your script file.

Fortunately, there is a magical incantation that will work in all the cases I have tested. Unfortunately, the magical incantation is more than just a line or two of code.

import inspect
import os
import sys

# Add script directory to sys.path.
# This is complicated due to the fact that __file__ is not always defined.

def GetScriptDirectory():
    if hasattr(GetScriptDirectory, "dir"):
        return GetScriptDirectory.dir
    module_path = ""
    try:
        # The easy way. Just use __file__.
        # Unfortunately, __file__ is not available when cx_Freeze is used or in IDLE.
        module_path = __file__
    except NameError:
        if len(sys.argv) > 0 and len(sys.argv[0]) > 0 and os.path.isabs(sys.argv[0]):
            module_path = sys.argv[0]
        else:
            module_path = os.path.abspath(inspect.getfile(GetScriptDirectory))
            if not os.path.exists(module_path):
                # If cx_Freeze is used the value of the module_path variable at this point is in the following format.
                # {PathToExeFile}\{NameOfPythonSourceFile}. This makes it necessary to strip off the file name to get the correct
                # path.
                module_path = os.path.dirname(module_path)
    GetScriptDirectory.dir = os.path.dirname(module_path)
    return GetScriptDirectory.dir

sys.path.append(os.path.join(GetScriptDirectory(), "lib"))
print(GetScriptDirectory())
print(sys.path)

As you can see, this is no easy task!

How do I capture the output of a script if it is being ran by the task scheduler?

Resolving IP Address from hostname with PowerShell

You can get all the IP addresses with GetHostAddresses like this:

$ips = [System.Net.Dns]::GetHostAddresses("yourhosthere")

You can iterate over them like so:

[System.Net.Dns]::GetHostAddresses("yourhosthere") | foreach {echo $_.IPAddressToString }

A server may have more than one IP, so this will return an array of IPs.

What is the difference between Integer and int in Java?

To optimize the Java code runtime, int primitive type(s) has been added including float, bool etc. but they come along with there wrapper classes so that if needed you can convert and use them as standard Java object along with many utility that comes as their member functions (such as Integer.parseInt("1")).

How to check for Is not Null And Is not Empty string in SQL server?

For some kind of reason my NULL values where of data length 8. That is why none of the abovementioned seemed to work. If you encounter the same problem, use the following code:

SELECT DATALENGTH(COLUMN) as length_column
FROM your_table

--Filter the length of your NULL values (8 is used as example)
WHERE DATALENGTH(COLUMN) > 8

How do I use StringUtils in Java?

java.lang does not contain a class called StringUtils. Several third-party libs do, such as Apache Commons Lang or the Spring framework. Make sure you have the relevant jar in your project classpath and import the correct class.

Need to make a clickable <div> button

Just use an <a> by itself, set it to display: block; and set width and height. Get rid of the <span> and <div>. This is the semantic way to do it. There is no need to wrap things in <divs> (or any element) for layout. That is what CSS is for.

Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/ThinkingStiff/89Enq/

HTML:

<a id="music" href="Music.html">Music I Like</a>

CSS:

    height: 40px;
    line-height: 40px;
    text-decoration: none;
    width: 100px;
    text-align: center;

How does HTTP file upload work?

An HTTP message may have a body of data sent after the header lines. In a response, this is where the requested resource is returned to the client (the most common use of the message body), or perhaps explanatory text if there's an error. In a request, this is where user-entered data or uploaded files are sent to the server.

When is "java.io.IOException:Connection reset by peer" thrown?

java.io.IOException: Connection reset by peer

In my case, the problem was with PUT requests (GET and POST were passing successfully).

Communication went through VPN tunnel and ssh connection. And there was a firewall with default restrictions on PUT requests... PUT requests haven't been passing throughout, to the server...

Problem was solved after exception was added to the firewall for my IP address.

Android Facebook style slide

After a search for several hours, I found Paul Grime's solution probably is the best one. But it has too much functionality in it. So it may be hard to study for beginners. So I would like to provide my implementation which is came from Paul's idea but it is simpler and should be easy to read.

Ruby get object keys as array

Use the keys method: {"apple" => "fruit", "carrot" => "vegetable"}.keys == ["apple", "carrot"]

What do \t and \b do?

No, that's more or less what they're meant to do.

In C (and many other languages), you can insert hard-to-see/type characters using \ notation:

  • \a is alert/bell
  • \b is backspace/rubout
  • \n is newline
  • \r is carriage return (return to left margin)
  • \t is tab

You can also specify the octal value of any character using \0nnn, or the hexadecimal value of any character with \xnn.

  • EG: the ASCII value of _ is octal 137, hex 5f, so it can also be typed \0137 or \x5f, if your keyboard didn't have a _ key or something. This is more useful for control characters like NUL (\0) and ESC (\033)

As someone posted (then deleted their answer before I could +1 it), there are also some less-frequently-used ones:

  • \f is a form feed/new page (eject page from printer)
  • \v is a vertical tab (move down one line, on the same column)

On screens, \f usually works the same as \v, but on some printers/teletypes, it will go all the way to the next form/sheet of paper.

Solution for "Fatal error: Maximum function nesting level of '100' reached, aborting!" in PHP

You could try to wiggle down the nesting by implementing parallel workers (like in cluster computing) instead of increasing the number of nesting function calls.

For example: you define a limited number of slots (eg. 100) and monitor the number of "workers" assigned to each/some of them. If any slots become free, you put the waiting workers "in them".

What's the best way to identify hidden characters in the result of a query in SQL Server (Query Analyzer)?

You can always use the DATALENGTH Function to determine if you have extra white space characters in text fields. This won't make the text visible but will show you where there are extra white space characters.

    SELECT DATALENGTH('MyTextData ') AS BinaryLength, LEN('MyTextData ') AS TextLength

This will produce 11 for BinaryLength and 10 for TextLength.

In a table your SQL would like this:

    SELECT *
    FROM tblA
    WHERE DATALENGTH(MyTextField) > LEN(MyTextField)

This function is usable in all versions of SQL Server beginning with 2005.

How to compare two floating point numbers in Bash?

More conveniently

This can be done more conveniently using Bash's numeric context:

if (( $(echo "$num1 > $num2" |bc -l) )); then
  …
fi

Explanation

Piping through the basic calculator command bc returns either 1 or 0.

The option -l is equivalent to --mathlib; it loads the standard math library.

Enclosing the whole expression between double parenthesis (( )) will translate these values to respectively true or false.

Please, ensure that the bc basic calculator package is installed.

This equally works for floats in scientific format, provided a capital letter E is employed, e.g. num1=3.44E6

Python list of dictionaries search

This looks to me the most pythonic way:

people = [
{'name': "Tom", 'age': 10},
{'name': "Mark", 'age': 5},
{'name': "Pam", 'age': 7}
]

filter(lambda person: person['name'] == 'Pam', people)

result (returned as a list in Python 2):

[{'age': 7, 'name': 'Pam'}]

Note: In Python 3, a filter object is returned. So the python3 solution would be:

list(filter(lambda person: person['name'] == 'Pam', people))

php REQUEST_URI

Since vars passed through url are $_GET vars, you can use filter_input() function:

$id = filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'id', FILTER_SANITIZE_NUMBER_INT);
$othervar = filter_input(INPUT_GET, 'othervar', FILTER_SANITIZE_FULL_SPECIAL_CHARS);

It would store the values of each var and sanitize/validate them too.

Check if a specific tab page is selected (active)

in .Net 4 can use

if (tabControl1.Controls[5] == tabControl1.SelectedTab)
                MessageBox.Show("Tab 5 Is Selected");

OR

if ( tabpage5 == tabControl1.SelectedTab)
         MessageBox.Show("Tab 5 Is Selected");

Stop fixed position at footer

If your elements are glitching this is probably because when you change the position to relative the Y position of the footer increases which tries to send the item back to fixed which creates a loop. You can avoid this by setting two different cases when scrolling up and down. You don't even need to reference the fixed element, just the footer, and window size.

const footer = document.querySelector('footer');
document.addEventListener("scroll", checkScroll);

let prevY = window.scrollY + window.innerHeight;
function checkScroll() {
  let footerTop = getRectTop(footer) + window.scrollY;
  let windowBottomY = window.scrollY + window.innerHeight;
  if (prevY < windowBottomY) { // Scroll Down
    if (windowBottomY > footerTop)
      setScrolledToFooter(true) // using React state. Change class or change style in JS.
  } else { // Scroll Up
    if (windowBottomY <= footerTop)
      setScrolledToFooter(false)
  }
  prevY = windowBottomY
};

function getRectTop(el) {
  var rect = el.getBoundingClientRect();
  return rect.top;
}

and the position of the element in the style object as follows:

position: scrolledToFooter ? 'relative' : 'fixed'

Using port number in Windows host file

You need NGNIX or Apache HTTP server as a proxy server for forwarding http requests to appropriate application -> which listens particular port (or do it with CNAME which provides Hosting company). It is most powerful solution and this is just a really easy way to keep adding new subdomains, or to add new domains automatically when DNS records are pointed at the server.

How to get setuptools and easy_install?

On Ubuntu until python-distribute is something newer than 0.7 I'd recommend:

$ wget https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/raw/bootstrap/ez_setup.py -O - | sudo python

How to copy selected files from Android with adb pull

You can move your files to other folder and then pull whole folder.

adb shell mkdir /sdcard/tmp
adb shell mv /sdcard/mydir/*.jpg /sdcard/tmp # move your jpegs to temporary dir
adb pull /sdcard/tmp/ # pull this directory (be sure to put '/' in the end)
adb shell mv /sdcard/tmp/* /sdcard/mydir/ # move them back
adb shell rmdir /sdcard/tmp # remove temporary directory

Switch to another branch without changing the workspace files

Simplest way to do is as follows:

How to convert URL parameters to a JavaScript object?

This is the simple version, obviously you'll want to add some error checking:

var obj = {};
var pairs = queryString.split('&');
for(i in pairs){
    var split = pairs[i].split('=');
    obj[decodeURIComponent(split[0])] = decodeURIComponent(split[1]);
}

Get href attribute on jQuery

Get content of a DIV using JavaScript

You need to set Div2 to Div1's innerHTML. Also, JavaScript is case sensitive - in your HTML, the id Div2 is DIV2. Also, you should use document, not Document:

var MyDiv1 = document.getElementById('DIV1');
var MyDiv2 = document.getElementById('DIV2');
MyDiv2.innerHTML = MyDiv1.innerHTML;

How to list files in an android directory?

In addition to all the answers above:

If you are on Android 6.0+ (API Level 23+) you have to explicitly ask for permission to access external storage. Simply having

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />

in your manifest won't be enough. You also have actively request the permission in your activity:

//check for permission
if(ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(this,
            Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) == PackageManager.PERMISSION_DENIED){
    //ask for permission
    requestPermissions(new String[]{Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE}, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE_PERMISSION_CODE);
}

How can I see the size of a GitHub repository before cloning it?

If you own the repository, you can find the exact size by opening your Account Settings ? Repositories (https://github.com/settings/repositories), and the repository size is displayed next to its designation.

If you do not own the repository, you can fork it and then check the in the same place.

Note: You might be the owner of the organization that hosts multiple repositories and yet not have a role in a specific repository inside the organization. By default, even if you create a repository in the organization you own, you are not added to the repo and hence not see that repo in settings/repositories. So add yourself in the repository Setting(https://github.com/org-name/repo-name/settings) to see it in https://github.com/settings/repositories

Somewhat hacky: use the download as a zip file option, read the file size indicated and then cancel it.

I do not remember if downloading as a zip ever worked, but in any case, doing so now only downloads the currently selected branch with no history.

There can be only one auto column

The full error message sounds:

ERROR 1075 (42000): Incorrect table definition; there can be only one auto column and it must be defined as a key

So add primary key to the auto_increment field:

CREATE TABLE book (
   id INT AUTO_INCREMENT primary key NOT NULL,
   accepted_terms BIT(1) NOT NULL,
   accepted_privacy BIT(1) NOT NULL
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

sql query with multiple where statements

This..

(
        (meta_key = 'lat' AND meta_value >= '60.23457047672217')
    OR
        (meta_key = 'lat' AND meta_value <= '60.23457047672217')
)

is the same as

(
        (meta_key = 'lat')
)

Adding it all together (the same applies to the long filter) you have this impossible WHERE clause which will give no rows because meta_key cannot be 2 values in one row

WHERE
    (meta_key = 'lat' AND meta_key = 'long' )

You need to review your operators to make sure you get the correct logic

Row was updated or deleted by another transaction (or unsaved-value mapping was incorrect)

This exception is probably caused by optimistic locking (or by a bug in your code). You're probably using it without knowing. And your pseudo-code (which should be replaced by real code to be able to diagnose the problem) is wrong. Hibernate saves all the modifications done to attached entities automatically. You shouldn't ever call update, merge or saveOrUpdate on an attached entity. Just do

Email email = session.get(emailId);
email.setSubject(subject);

No need to call update. Hibernate will flush the changes automatically before committing the transaction.

How to highlight text using javascript

function stylizeHighlightedString() {

    var text = window.getSelection();

    // For diagnostics
    var start = text.anchorOffset;
    var end = text.focusOffset - text.anchorOffset;

    range = window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0);

    var selectionContents = range.extractContents();
    var span = document.createElement("span");

    span.appendChild(selectionContents);

    span.style.backgroundColor = "yellow";
    span.style.color = "black";

    range.insertNode(span);
}

Pass parameter to EventHandler

Timer.Elapsed expects method of specific signature (with arguments object and EventArgs). If you want to use your PlayMusicEvent method with additional argument evaluated during event registration, you can use lambda expression as an adapter:

myTimer.Elapsed += new ElapsedEventHandler((sender, e) => PlayMusicEvent(sender, e, musicNote));

Edit: you can also use shorter version:

myTimer.Elapsed += (sender, e) => PlayMusicEvent(sender, e, musicNote);

How to fix div on scroll

I made a mix of the answers here, took the code of @Julian and ideas from the others, seems clearer to me, this is what's left:

fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/wq2Ej/

jquery

//store the element
var $cache = $('.my-sticky-element');

//store the initial position of the element
var vTop = $cache.offset().top - parseFloat($cache.css('marginTop').replace(/auto/, 0));
  $(window).scroll(function (event) {
    // what the y position of the scroll is
    var y = $(this).scrollTop();

    // whether that's below the form
    if (y >= vTop) {
      // if so, ad the fixed class
      $cache.addClass('stuck');
    } else {
      // otherwise remove it
      $cache.removeClass('stuck');
    }
  });

css:

.my-sticky-element.stuck {
    position:fixed;
    top:0;
    box-shadow:0 2px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, .3);
}

How can I iterate over the elements in Hashmap?

HashMap<Integer,Player> hash = new HashMap<Integer,Player>();
Set keys = hash.keySet();
Iterator itr = keys.iterator();

while(itr.hasNext()){
    Integer key = itr.next();
    Player objPlayer = (Player) hash.get(key);
    System.out.println("The player "+objPlayer.getName()+" has "+objPlayer.getScore()+" points");
}

You can use this code to print all scores in your format.

Using setImageDrawable dynamically to set image in an ImageView

The resource drawable names are not stored as strings, so you'll have to resolve the string into the integer constant generated during the build. You can use the Resources class to resolve the string into that integer.

Resources res = getResources();
int resourceId = res.getIdentifier(
   generatedString, "drawable", getPackageName() );
imageView.setImageResource( resourceId );

This resolves your generated string into the integer that the ImageView can use to load the right image.

Alternately, you can use the id to load the Drawable manually and then set the image using that drawable instead of the resource ID.

Drawable drawable = res.getDrawable( resourceId );
imageView.setImageDrawable( drawable );

How to drop column with constraint?

I got the same:

ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN failed because one or more objects access this column message.

My column had an index which needed to be deleted first. Using sys.indexes did the trick:

DECLARE @sql VARCHAR(max)

SELECT @sql = 'DROP INDEX ' + idx.NAME + ' ON tblName'
FROM sys.indexes idx
INNER JOIN sys.tables tbl ON idx.object_id = tbl.object_id
INNER JOIN sys.index_columns idxCol ON idx.index_id = idxCol.index_id
INNER JOIN sys.columns col ON idxCol.column_id = col.column_id
WHERE idx.type <> 0
    AND tbl.NAME = 'tblName'
    AND col.NAME = 'colName'

EXEC sp_executeSql @sql
GO

ALTER TABLE tblName
DROP COLUMN colName

Any implementation of Ordered Set in Java?

Take a look at the Java standard API doc. Right next to LinkedHashMap, there is a LinkedHashSet. But note that the order in those is the insertion order, not the natural order of the elements. And you can only iterate in that order, not do random access (except by counting iteration steps).

There is also an interface SortedSet implemented by TreeSet and ConcurrentSkipListSet. Both allow iteration in the natural order of their elements or a Comparator, but not random access or insertion order.

For a data structure that has both efficient access by index and can efficiently implement the set criterium, you'd need a skip list, but there is no implementation with that functionality in the Java Standard API, though I am certain it's easy to find one on the internet.

Multiple Forms or Multiple Submits in a Page?

Best practice: one form per product is definitely the way to go.

Benefits:

  • It will save you the hassle of having to parse the data to figure out which product was clicked
  • It will reduce the size of data being posted

In your specific situation

If you only ever intend to have one form element, in this case a submit button, one form for all should work just fine.

My recommendation Do one form per product, and change your markup to something like:

<form method="post" action="">
    <input type="hidden" name="product_id" value="123">
    <button type="submit" name="action" value="add_to_cart">Add to Cart</button>
</form>

This will give you a much cleaner and usable POST. No parsing. And it will allow you to add more parameters in the future (size, color, quantity, etc).

Note: There's no technical benefit to using <button> vs. <input>, but as a programmer I find it cooler to work with action=='add_to_cart' than action=='Add to Cart'. Besides, I hate mixing presentation with logic. If one day you decide that it makes more sense for the button to say "Add" or if you want to use different languages, you could do so freely without having to worry about your back-end code.

How can I get the key value in a JSON object?

When you parse the JSON representation, it'll become a JavaScript array of objects.

Because of this, you can use the .length property of the JavaScript array to see how many elements are contained, and use a for loop to enumerate it.

Why don't Java's +=, -=, *=, /= compound assignment operators require casting?

The main difference is that with a = a + b, there is no typecasting going on, and so the compiler gets angry at you for not typecasting. But with a += b, what it's really doing is typecasting b to a type compatible with a. So if you do

int a=5;
long b=10;
a+=b;
System.out.println(a);

What you're really doing is:

int a=5;
long b=10;
a=a+(int)b;
System.out.println(a);

Reading an image file into bitmap from sdcard, why am I getting a NullPointerException?

try {
    bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(new FileInputStream(f), null, options);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}
image.setImageBitmap(bitmap);

Reading a binary file with python

Read the binary file content like this:

with open(fileName, mode='rb') as file: # b is important -> binary
    fileContent = file.read()

then "unpack" binary data using struct.unpack:

The start bytes: struct.unpack("iiiii", fileContent[:20])

The body: ignore the heading bytes and the trailing byte (= 24); The remaining part forms the body, to know the number of bytes in the body do an integer division by 4; The obtained quotient is multiplied by the string 'i' to create the correct format for the unpack method:

struct.unpack("i" * ((len(fileContent) -24) // 4), fileContent[20:-4])

The end byte: struct.unpack("i", fileContent[-4:])

Passing Objects By Reference or Value in C#

How did you pass object to method?

Are you doing new inside that method for object? If so, you have to use ref in method.

Error message "unreported exception java.io.IOException; must be caught or declared to be thrown"

Exceptions bubble up the stack. If a caller calls a method that throws a checked exception, like IOException, it must also either catch the exception, or itself throw it.

In the case of the first block:

filecontent()
{
    setGUI();
    setRegister();
    showfile();
    setTitle("FileData");
    setVisible(true);
    setSize(300, 300);

    /*
        addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter()
        {
            public void windowClosing(WindowEvent we)
            {
                System.exit(0);
            }
        });
    */
}

You would have to include a try catch block:

filecontent()
{
    setGUI();
    setRegister();
    try {
        showfile();
    }
    catch (IOException e) {
        // Do something here
    }
    setTitle("FileData");
    setVisible(true);
    setSize(300, 300);

    /*
        addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter()
        {
            public void windowClosing(WindowEvent we)
            {
                System.exit(0);
            }
        });
    */
}

In the case of the second:

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
{
    if (ae.getSource() == submit)
    {
        showfile();
    }
}

You cannot throw IOException from this method as its signature is determined by the interface, so you must catch the exception within:

public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
{
    if(ae.getSource()==submit)
    {
        try {
            showfile();
        }
        catch (IOException e) {
            // Do something here
        }
    }
}

Remember, the showFile() method is throwing the exception; that's what the "throws" keyword indicates that the method may throw that exception. If the showFile() method is throwing, then whatever code calls that method must catch, or themselves throw the exception explicitly by including the same throws IOException addition to the method signature, if it's permitted.

If the method is overriding a method signature defined in an interface or superclass that does not also declare that the method may throw that exception, you cannot declare it to throw an exception.

Python's "in" set operator

Yes it can mean so, or it can be a simple iterator. For example: Example as iterator:

a=set(['1','2','3'])
for x in a:
 print ('This set contains the value ' + x)

Similarly as a check:

a=set('ILovePython')
if 'I' in a:
 print ('There is an "I" in here')

edited: edited to include sets rather than lists and strings
