Programs & Examples On #Groovyshell

The term groovyshell refers to both: 1. A command line interactive groovy shell, usually invoked as "groovysh" 2. One of the primary classes (groovy.lang.GroovyShell) in the Groovy language API for dynamically compiling and invoking groovy scripts from their raw source state.

Groovy Shell warning "Could not open/create prefs root node ..."

The problem is that simple console can't edit the registry. No need to edit the registry by hand, just launch the groovysh once with administrative priveleges. All subsequent launches work without error.

get current date and time in groovy?

Date has the time part, so we only need to extract it from Date

I personally prefer the default format parameter of the Date when date and time needs to be separated instead of using the extra SimpleDateFormat

Date date = new Date()
String datePart = date.format("dd/MM/yyyy")
String timePart = date.format("HH:mm:ss")

println "datePart : " + datePart + "\ttimePart : " + timePart

Get request URL in JSP which is forwarded by Servlet

Try this instead:

String scheme = req.getScheme();
String serverName = req.getServerName();
int serverPort = req.getServerPort();
String uri = (String) req.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.request_uri");
String prmstr = (String) req.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.query_string");
String url = scheme + "://" +serverName + ":" + serverPort + uri + "?" + prmstr;

Note: You can't get HREF anchor from your url. Example, if you have url "toc.html#top" then you can get only "toc.html"

Note: req.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.request_uri") work only in JSP. if you run this in controller before JSP then result is null

You can use code for both variant:

public static String getCurrentUrl(HttpServletRequest req) {
    String url = getCurrentUrlWithoutParams(req);
    String prmstr = getCurrentUrlParams(req);
    url += "?" + prmstr;
    return url;
}

public static String getCurrentUrlParams(HttpServletRequest request) {
    return StringUtil.safeString(request.getQueryString());
}

public static String getCurrentUrlWithoutParams(HttpServletRequest request) {
    String uri = (String) request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.request_uri");
    if (uri == null) {
        return request.getRequestURL().toString();
    }
    String scheme = request.getScheme();
    String serverName = request.getServerName();
    int serverPort = request.getServerPort();
    String url = scheme + "://" + serverName + ":" + serverPort + uri;
    return url;
}

No Such Element Exception?

Another situation which issues the same problem, map.entrySet().iterator().next()

If there is no element in the Map object, then the above code will return NoSuchElementException. Make sure to call hasNext() first.

How to print time in format: 2009-08-10 18:17:54.811

trick:

    int time_len = 0, n;
    struct tm *tm_info;
    struct timeval tv;

    gettimeofday(&tv, NULL);
    tm_info = localtime(&tv.tv_sec);
    time_len+=strftime(log_buff, sizeof log_buff, "%y%m%d %H:%M:%S", tm_info);
    time_len+=snprintf(log_buff+time_len,sizeof log_buff-time_len,".%03ld ",tv.tv_usec/1000);

It does exactly that.

using BETWEEN in WHERE condition

Sounds correct but some issues maybe creates executing this query: I would suggest:

Counting array elements in Python

len is a built-in function that calls the given container object's __len__ member function to get the number of elements in the object.

Functions encased with double underscores are usually "special methods" implementing one of the standard interfaces in Python (container, number, etc). Special methods are used via syntactic sugar (object creation, container indexing and slicing, attribute access, built-in functions, etc.).

Using obj.__len__() wouldn't be the correct way of using the special method, but I don't see why the others were modded down so much.

Ranges of floating point datatype in C?

Infinity, NaN and subnormals

These are important caveats that no other answer has mentioned so far.

First read this introduction to IEEE 754 and subnormal numbers: What is a subnormal floating point number?

Then, for single precision floats (32-bit):

  • IEEE 754 says that if the exponent is all ones (0xFF == 255), then it represents either NaN or Infinity.

    This is why the largest non-infinite number has exponent 0xFE == 254 and not 0xFF.

    Then with the bias, it becomes:

    254 - 127 == 127

  • FLT_MIN is the smallest normal number. But there are smaller subnormal ones! Those take up the -127 exponent slot.

All asserts of the following program pass on Ubuntu 18.04 amd64:

#include <assert.h>
#include <float.h>
#include <inttypes.h>
#include <math.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>

float float_from_bytes(
    uint32_t sign,
    uint32_t exponent,
    uint32_t fraction
) {
    uint32_t bytes;
    bytes = 0;
    bytes |= sign;
    bytes <<= 8;
    bytes |= exponent;
    bytes <<= 23;
    bytes |= fraction;
    return *(float*)&bytes;
}

int main(void) {
    /* All 1 exponent and non-0 fraction means NaN.
     * There are of course many possible representations,
     * and some have special semantics such as signalling vs not.
     */
    assert(isnan(float_from_bytes(0, 0xFF, 1)));
    assert(isnan(NAN));
    printf("nan                  = %e\n", NAN);

    /* All 1 exponent and 0 fraction means infinity. */
    assert(INFINITY == float_from_bytes(0, 0xFF, 0));
    assert(isinf(INFINITY));
    printf("infinity             = %e\n", INFINITY);

    /* ANSI C defines FLT_MAX as the largest non-infinite number. */
    assert(FLT_MAX == 0x1.FFFFFEp127f);
    /* Not 0xFF because that is infinite. */
    assert(FLT_MAX == float_from_bytes(0, 0xFE, 0x7FFFFF));
    assert(!isinf(FLT_MAX));
    assert(FLT_MAX < INFINITY);
    printf("largest non infinite = %e\n", FLT_MAX);

    /* ANSI C defines FLT_MIN as the smallest non-subnormal number. */
    assert(FLT_MIN == 0x1.0p-126f);
    assert(FLT_MIN == float_from_bytes(0, 1, 0));
    assert(isnormal(FLT_MIN));
    printf("smallest normal      = %e\n", FLT_MIN);

    /* The smallest non-zero subnormal number. */
    float smallest_subnormal = float_from_bytes(0, 0, 1);
    assert(smallest_subnormal == 0x0.000002p-126f);
    assert(0.0f < smallest_subnormal);
    assert(!isnormal(smallest_subnormal));
    printf("smallest subnormal   = %e\n", smallest_subnormal);

    return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

Compile and run with:

gcc -ggdb3 -O0 -std=c11 -Wall -Wextra -Wpedantic -Werror -o subnormal.out subnormal.c
./subnormal.out

Output:

nan                  = nan
infinity             = inf
largest non infinite = 3.402823e+38
smallest normal      = 1.175494e-38

How do I get the first n characters of a string without checking the size or going out of bounds?

Here's a neat solution:

String upToNCharacters = s.substring(0, Math.min(s.length(), n));

Opinion: while this solution is "neat", I think it is actually less readable than a solution that uses if / else in the obvious way. If the reader hasn't seen this trick, he/she has to think harder to understand the code. IMO, the code's meaning is more obvious in the if / else version. For a cleaner / more readable solution, see @paxdiablo's answer.

how to use getSharedPreferences in android

First get the instance of SharedPreferences using

SharedPreferences userDetails = context.getSharedPreferences("userdetails", MODE_PRIVATE);

Now to save the values in the SharedPreferences

Editor edit = userDetails.edit();
edit.putString("username", username.getText().toString().trim());
edit.putString("password", password.getText().toString().trim());
edit.apply();

Above lines will write username and password to preference

Now to to retrieve saved values from preference, you can follow below lines of code

String userName = userDetails.getString("username", "");
String password = userDetails.getString("password", "");

(NOTE: SAVING PASSWORD IN THE APP IS NOT RECOMMENDED. YOU SHOULD EITHER ENCRYPT THE PASSWORD BEFORE SAVING OR SKIP THE SAVING THE PASSWORD)

How to add items to a spinner in Android?

This code basically reads a JSON array object and convert each row into an option in the spinner that is passed as a parameter:

public ArrayAdapter<String> getArrayAdapterFromArrayListForSpinner(ArrayList<JSONObject> aArrayList, String aField)
{
    ArrayAdapter<String> aArrayAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(context, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item);
    aArrayAdapter.setDropDownViewResource(R.layout.multiline_spinner_dropdown_item); //android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item
    try {
        for (int i = 0; i < aArrayList.size(); i++)
        {
            aArrayAdapter.add(aArrayList.get(i).getString(aField));
        }
    } catch (JSONException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        ShowMessage("Error while reading the JSON list");
    }
    return aArrayAdapter;
}

What is the reason behind "non-static method cannot be referenced from a static context"?

The compiler actually adds an argument to non-static methods. It adds a this pointer/reference. This is also the reason why a static method can not use this, because there is no object.

Setting top and left CSS attributes

div.style yields an object (CSSStyleDeclaration). Since it's an object, you can alternatively use the following:

div.style["top"] = "200px";
div.style["left"] = "200px";

This is useful, for example, if you need to access a "variable" property:

div.style[prop] = "200px";

Create a list with initial capacity in Python

As others have mentioned, the simplest way to preseed a list is with NoneType objects.

That being said, you should understand the way Python lists actually work before deciding this is necessary.

In the CPython implementation of a list, the underlying array is always created with overhead room, in progressively larger sizes ( 4, 8, 16, 25, 35, 46, 58, 72, 88, 106, 126, 148, 173, 201, 233, 269, 309, 354, 405, 462, 526, 598, 679, 771, 874, 990, 1120, etc), so that resizing the list does not happen nearly so often.

Because of this behavior, most list.append() functions are O(1) complexity for appends, only having increased complexity when crossing one of these boundaries, at which point the complexity will be O(n). This behavior is what leads to the minimal increase in execution time in S.Lott's answer.

URL.Action() including route values

outgoing url in mvc generated based on the current routing schema.

because your Information action method require id parameter, and your route collection has id of your current requested url(/Admin/Information/5), id parameter automatically gotten from existing route collection values.

to solve this problem you should use UrlParameter.Optional:

 <a href="@Url.Action("Information", "Admin", new { id = UrlParameter.Optional })">Add an Admin</a>

How do I import global modules in Node? I get "Error: Cannot find module <module>"?

You can use npm link to create a symbolic link to your global package in your projects folder.

Example:

$ npm install -g express
$ cd [local path]/project
$ npm link express

All it does is create a local node_modules folder and then create a symlink express -> [global directory]/node_modules/express which can then be resolved by require('express')

Set a cookie to never expire

I believe that there isn't a way to make a cookie last forever, but you just need to set it to expire far into the future, such as the year 2100.

dictionary update sequence element #0 has length 3; 2 is required

This error raised up because you trying to update dict object by using a wrong sequence (list or tuple) structure.

cash_id.create(cr, uid, lines,context=None) trying to convert lines into dict object:

(0, 0, {
    'name': l.name,
    'date': l.date,
    'amount': l.amount,
    'type': l.type,
    'statement_id': exp.statement_id.id,
    'account_id': l.account_id.id,
    'account_analytic_id': l.analytic_account_id.id,
    'ref': l.ref,
    'note': l.note,
    'company_id': l.company_id.id
})

Remove the second zero from this tuple to properly convert it into a dict object.

To test it your self, try this into python shell:

>>> a={}
>>> a.update(l)

Sublime Text 3, convert spaces to tabs

Here is a solution that will automatically convert to tabs whenever you open a file.

Create this file: .../Packages/User/on_file_load.py:

import sublime
import sublime_plugin

class OnFileLoadEventListener(sublime_plugin.EventListener):

    def on_load_async(self, view):
        view.run_command("unexpand_tabs")

NOTE. It causes the file to be in an unsaved state after opening it, even if no actual space-to-tab conversion took place... maybe some can help with a fix for that...

HTML table with fixed headers and a fixed column?

Working example of link posted by pranav:

http://jsbin.com/nolanole/1/edit?html,js,output

FYI: Tested in IE 6, 7, & 8 (compatibility mode on or off), FF 3 & 3.5, Chrome 2. Not screen-reader-friendly (headers aren't part of content table).

EDIT 5/5/14: moved example to jsBin. This is old, but amazingly still works in current Chrome, IE, and Firefox (though IE and Firefox might require some adjustments to row heights).

Transferring files over SSH

You need to specify both source and destination, and if you want to copy directories you should look at the -r option.

So to recursively copy /home/user/whatever from remote server to your current directory:

scp -pr user@remoteserver:whatever .

JavaScript: Global variables after Ajax requests

AJAX stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. Thus, the post to the server happens out-of-sync with the rest of the function. Try some code like this instead (it just breaks the shorthand $.post out into the longer $.ajax call and adds the async option).

var it_works = false;

$.ajax({
  type: 'POST',
  async: false,
  url: "some_file.php",
  data: "",
  success: function() {it_works = true;}
});

alert(it_works);

Hope this helps!

The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Ntlm'

Maybe you can refer to : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms731364.aspx My solution is to change 2 properties authenticationScheme and proxyAuthenticationScheme to "Ntlm", and then it works.

PS: My environment is as follow - Server side: .net 2.0 ASMX - Client side: .net 4

The differences between initialize, define, declare a variable

Declaration

Declaration, generally, refers to the introduction of a new name in the program. For example, you can declare a new function by describing it's "signature":

void xyz();

or declare an incomplete type:

class klass;
struct ztruct;

and last but not least, to declare an object:

int x;

It is described, in the C++ standard, at §3.1/1 as:

A declaration (Clause 7) may introduce one or more names into a translation unit or redeclare names introduced by previous declarations.

Definition

A definition is a definition of a previously declared name (or it can be both definition and declaration). For example:

int x;
void xyz() {...}
class klass {...};
struct ztruct {...};
enum { x, y, z };

Specifically the C++ standard defines it, at §3.1/1, as:

A declaration is a definition unless it declares a function without specifying the function’s body (8.4), it contains the extern specifier (7.1.1) or a linkage-specification25 (7.5) and neither an initializer nor a function- body, it declares a static data member in a class definition (9.2, 9.4), it is a class name declaration (9.1), it is an opaque-enum-declaration (7.2), it is a template-parameter (14.1), it is a parameter-declaration (8.3.5) in a function declarator that is not the declarator of a function-definition, or it is a typedef declaration (7.1.3), an alias-declaration (7.1.3), a using-declaration (7.3.3), a static_assert-declaration (Clause 7), an attribute- declaration (Clause 7), an empty-declaration (Clause 7), or a using-directive (7.3.4).

Initialization

Initialization refers to the "assignment" of a value, at construction time. For a generic object of type T, it's often in the form:

T x = i;

but in C++ it can be:

T x(i);

or even:

T x {i};

with C++11.

Conclusion

So does it mean definition equals declaration plus initialization?

It depends. On what you are talking about. If you are talking about an object, for example:

int x;

This is a definition without initialization. The following, instead, is a definition with initialization:

int x = 0;

In certain context, it doesn't make sense to talk about "initialization", "definition" and "declaration". If you are talking about a function, for example, initialization does not mean much.

So, the answer is no: definition does not automatically mean declaration plus initialization.

Removing carriage return and new-line from the end of a string in c#

String temp = s.Replace("\r\n","").Trim();

s being the original string. (Note capitals)

Generating HTML email body in C#

Use the System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter class.

StringWriter writer = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter html = new HtmlTextWriter(writer);

html.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.H1);
html.WriteEncodedText("Heading Here");
html.RenderEndTag();
html.WriteEncodedText(String.Format("Dear {0}", userName));
html.WriteBreak();
html.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.P);
html.WriteEncodedText("First part of the email body goes here");
html.RenderEndTag();
html.Flush();

string htmlString = writer.ToString();

For extensive HTML that includes the creation of style attributes HtmlTextWriter is probably the best way to go. However it can be a bit clunky to use and some developers like the markup itself to be easily read but perversly HtmlTextWriter's choices with regard indentation is a bit wierd.

In this example you can also use XmlTextWriter quite effectively:-

writer = new StringWriter();
XmlTextWriter xml = new XmlTextWriter(writer);
xml.Formatting = Formatting.Indented;
xml.WriteElementString("h1", "Heading Here");
xml.WriteString(String.Format("Dear {0}", userName));
xml.WriteStartElement("br");
xml.WriteEndElement();
xml.WriteElementString("p", "First part of the email body goes here");
xml.Flush();

Error after upgrading pip: cannot import name 'main'

I also run into this problem when I wanted to upgrade system pip pip3 from 9.0.1 to 19.2.3.

After running pip3 install --upgrade pip, pip version becomes 19.2.3. But main() has been moved in pip._internal in the latest version, which leaves pip3 broken.

So in file /usr/bin/pip3, replace line 9: from pip import main with from pip._internal import main. The issue will be fixed, works the same for python2-pip. (Tested on Ubuntu 18.04 distribution)

Node: log in a file instead of the console

Another solution not mentioned yet is by hooking the Writable streams in process.stdout and process.stderr. This way you don't need to override all the console functions that output to stdout and stderr. This implementation redirects both stdout and stderr to a log file:

var log_file = require('fs').createWriteStream(__dirname + '/log.txt', {flags : 'w'})

function hook_stream(stream, callback) {
    var old_write = stream.write

    stream.write = (function(write) {
        return function(string, encoding, fd) {
            write.apply(stream, arguments) // comments this line if you don't want output in the console
            callback(string, encoding, fd)
        }
    })(stream.write)

    return function() {
        stream.write = old_write
    }
}

console.log('a')
console.error('b')

var unhook_stdout = hook_stream(process.stdout, function(string, encoding, fd) {
    log_file.write(string, encoding)
})

var unhook_stderr = hook_stream(process.stderr, function(string, encoding, fd) {
    log_file.write(string, encoding)
})

console.log('c')
console.error('d')

unhook_stdout()
unhook_stderr()

console.log('e')
console.error('f')

It should print in the console

a
b
c
d
e
f

and in the log file:

c
d

Disable spell-checking on HTML textfields

The following code snippet disables it for all textarea and input[type=text] elements:

(function () {
    function disableSpellCheck() {
        let selector = 'input[type=text], textarea';
        let textFields = document.querySelectorAll(selector);

        textFields.forEach(
            function (field, _currentIndex, _listObj) {
                field.spellcheck = false;
            }
        );
    }

    disableSpellCheck();
})();

Should black box or white box testing be the emphasis for testers?

White Box Testing equals Software Unit Test. The developer or a development level tester (e.g. another developer) ensures that the code he has written is working properly according to the detailed level requirements before integrating it in the system.

Black Box Testing equals Integration Testing. The tester ensures that the system works according to the requirements on a functional level.

Both test approaches are equally important in my opinion.

A thorough unit test will catch defects in the development stage and not after the software has been integrated into the system. A system level black box test will ensure all software modules behave correctly when integrated together. A unit test in the development stage would not catch these defects since modules are usually developed independent from each other.

Calling constructors in c++ without new

Ideally, a compiler would optimize the second, but it's not required. The first is the best way. However, it's pretty critical to understand the distinction between stack and heap in C++, sine you must manage your own heap memory.

How to copy files between two nodes using ansible

To copy remote-to-remote files you can use the synchronize module with 'delegate_to: source-server' keyword:

- hosts: serverB
  tasks:
   - name: Copy Remote-To-Remote (from serverA to serverB)
     synchronize: src=/copy/from_serverA dest=/copy/to_serverB
     delegate_to: serverA

This playbook can run from your machineC.

Adding a column after another column within SQL

It depends on what database you are using. In MySQL, you would use the "ALTER TABLE" syntax. I don't remember exactly how, but it would go something like this if you wanted to add a column called 'newcol' that was a 200 character varchar:

ALTER TABLE example ADD newCol VARCHAR(200) AFTER otherCol;

if it doesn't work from within php do this in .htaccess it worked for me

<IfModule mod_headers.c>
    Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin http://www.vknyvz.com
    Header set Access-Control-Allow-Credentials true
</IfModule>
  • credentials can be true or false depending on your ajax request params

Efficient iteration with index in Scala

Much worse than traversing twice, it creates an intermediary array of pairs. You can use view. When you do collection.view, you can think of subsequent calls as acting lazily, during the iteration. If you want to get back a proper fully realized collection, you call force at the end. Here that would be useless and costly. So change your code to

for((x,i) <- xs.view.zipWithIndex) println("String #" + i + " is " + x)

ValueError: max() arg is an empty sequence

Since you are always initialising self.listMyData to an empty list in clkFindMost your code will always lead to this error* because after that both unique_names and frequencies are empty iterables, so fix this.

Another thing is that since you're iterating over a set in that method then calculating frequency makes no sense as set contain only unique items, so frequency of each item is always going to be 1.

Lastly dict.get is a method not a list or dictionary so you can't use [] with it:

Correct way is:

if frequencies.get(name):

And Pythonic way is:

if name in frequencies:

The Pythonic way to get the frequency of items is to use collections.Counter:

from collections import Counter #Add this at the top of file.

def clkFindMost(self, parent):

        #self.listMyData = []
        if self.listMyData:
           frequencies = Counter(self.listMyData)
           self.txtResults.Value = max(frequencies, key=frequencies.get)
        else:
           self.txtResults.Value = ''

max() and min() throw such error when an empty iterable is passed to them. You can check the length of v before calling max() on it.

>>> lst = []
>>> max(lst)

    mx = max(lst)

If you are using it with an iterator then you need to consume the iterator first before calling max() on it because boolean value of iterator is always True, so we can't use if on them directly:

>>> it = iter([])
>>> bool(it)
True
>>> lst = list(it)
>>> if lst:
       mx = max(lst)
    else:
      #Handle this here

Good news is starting from Python 3.4 you will be able to specify an optional return value for min() and max() in case of empty iterable.

HTML/CSS Making a textbox with text that is grayed out, and disappears when I click to enter info, how?

nginx upload client_max_body_size issue

Does your upload die at the very end? 99% before crashing? Client body and buffers are key because nginx must buffer incoming data. The body configs (data of the request body) specify how nginx handles the bulk flow of binary data from multi-part-form clients into your app's logic.

The clean setting frees up memory and consumption limits by instructing nginx to store incoming buffer in a file and then clean this file later from disk by deleting it.

Set body_in_file_only to clean and adjust buffers for the client_max_body_size. The original question's config already had sendfile on, increase timeouts too. I use the settings below to fix this, appropriate across your local config, server, & http contexts.

client_body_in_file_only clean;
client_body_buffer_size 32K;

client_max_body_size 300M;

sendfile on;
send_timeout 300s;

Authenticating in PHP using LDAP through Active Directory

I do this simply by passing the user credentials to ldap_bind().

http://php.net/manual/en/function.ldap-bind.php

If the account can bind to LDAP, it's valid; if it can't, it's not. If all you're doing is authentication (not account management), I don't see the need for a library.

How to know that a string starts/ends with a specific string in jQuery?

For startswith, you can use indexOf:

if(str.indexOf('Hello') == 0) {

...

ref

and you can do the maths based on string length to determine 'endswith'.

if(str.lastIndexOf('Hello') == str.length - 'Hello'.length) {

How can I uninstall npm modules in Node.js?

To remove packages in folder node_modules in bulk, you could also remove them from file package.json, save it, and then run npm prune in the terminal.

This will remove those packages, which exist in the file system, but are not used/declared in file package.json.

P.S.: This is particularly useful on Windows, as you may often encounter problems with being unable to delete some files due to the "exceeded path length limit".

Map and filter an array at the same time

You should use Array.reduce for this.

_x000D_
_x000D_
var options = [_x000D_
  { name: 'One', assigned: true }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Two', assigned: false }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Three', assigned: true }, _x000D_
];_x000D_
_x000D_
var reduced = options.reduce(function(filtered, option) {_x000D_
  if (option.assigned) {_x000D_
     var someNewValue = { name: option.name, newProperty: 'Foo' }_x000D_
     filtered.push(someNewValue);_x000D_
  }_x000D_
  return filtered;_x000D_
}, []);_x000D_
_x000D_
document.getElementById('output').innerHTML = JSON.stringify(reduced);
_x000D_
<h1>Only assigned options</h1>_x000D_
<pre id="output"> </pre>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Alternatively, the reducer can be a pure function, like this

var reduced = options.reduce(function(result, option) {
  if (option.assigned) {
    return result.concat({
      name: option.name,
      newProperty: 'Foo'
    });
  }
  return result;
}, []);

Get changes from master into branch in Git

You have a couple options. git rebase master aqonto the branch which will keep the commit names, but DO NOT REBASE if this is a remote branch. You can git merge master aq if you don't care about keeping the commit names. If you want to keep the commit names and it is a remote branch git cherry-pick <commit hash> the commits onto your branch.

Where does Git store files?

In a .git directory in the root of the project. Unlike some other version control systems, notably CVS, there are no additional directories in any of the subdirectories.

Maven is not working in Java 8 when Javadoc tags are incomplete

Since it depends on the version of your JRE which is used to run the maven command you propably dont want to disable DocLint per default in your pom.xml

Hence, from command line you can use the switch -Dadditionalparam=-Xdoclint:none.

Example: mvn clean install -Dadditionalparam=-Xdoclint:none

What is the meaning of polyfills in HTML5?

First off let's clarify what a polyfil is not: A polyfill is not part of the HTML5 Standard. Nor is a polyfill limited to Javascript, even though you often see polyfills being referred to in those contexts.

The term polyfill itself refers to some code that "allows you to have some specific functionality that you expect in current or “modern” browsers to also work in other browsers that do not have the support for that functionality built in. "

Source and example of polyfill here:

http://www.programmerinterview.com/index.php/html5/html5-polyfill/

Cannot deserialize instance of object out of START_ARRAY token in Spring Webservice

Your json contains an array, but you're trying to parse it as an object. This error occurs because objects must start with {.

You have 2 options:

  1. You can get rid of the ShopContainer class and use Shop[] instead

    ShopContainer response  = restTemplate.getForObject(
        url, ShopContainer.class);

    replace with

    Shop[] response  = restTemplate.getForObject(url, Shop[].class);

    and then make your desired object from it.

  2. You can change your server to return an object instead of a list

    return mapper.writerWithDefaultPrettyPrinter().writeValueAsString(list);

    replace with

    return mapper.writerWithDefaultPrettyPrinter().writeValueAsString(
        new ShopContainer(list));

How does ApplicationContextAware work in Spring?

Interface to be implemented by any object that wishes to be notified of the ApplicationContext that it runs in.

above is excerpted from the Spring doc website https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/docs/current/javadoc-api/org/springframework/context/ApplicationContextAware.html.

So, it seemed to be invoked when Spring container has started, if you want to do something at that time.

It just has one method to set the context, so you will get the context and do something to sth now already in context I think.

What to put in a python module docstring?

Think about somebody doing help(yourmodule) at the interactive interpreter's prompt — what do they want to know? (Other methods of extracting and displaying the information are roughly equivalent to help in terms of amount of information). So if you have in x.py:

"""This module does blah blah."""

class Blah(object):
  """This class does blah blah."""

then:

>>> import x; help(x)

shows:

Help on module x:

NAME
    x - This module does blah blah.

FILE
    /tmp/x.py

CLASSES
    __builtin__.object
        Blah

    class Blah(__builtin__.object)
     | This class does blah blah.
     |
     | Data and other attributes defined here:
     |
     |  __dict__ = <dictproxy object>
     | dictionary for instance variables (if defined)
     |
     |  __weakref__ = <attribute '__weakref__' of 'Blah' objects>
     | list of weak references to the object (if defined)

As you see, the detailed information on the classes (and functions too, though I'm not showing one here) is already included from those components' docstrings; the module's own docstring should describe them very summarily (if at all) and rather concentrate on a concise summary of what the module as a whole can do for you, ideally with some doctested examples (just like functions and classes ideally should have doctested examples in their docstrings).

I don't see how metadata such as author name and copyright / license helps the module's user — it can rather go in comments, since it could help somebody considering whether or not to reuse or modify the module.

Yahoo Finance All Currencies quote API Documentation

| ATTENTION !!! |

| SERVICE SUSPENDED BY YAHOO, solution no longer valid. |

Get from Yahoo a JSON or XML that you can parse from a REST query.

You can exchange from any to any currency and even get the date and time of the query using the YQL (Yahoo Query Language).

https://query.yahooapis.com/v1/public/yql?q=select%20*%20from%20csv%20where%20url%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Ffinance.yahoo.com%2Fd%2Fquotes.csv%3Fe%3D.csv%26f%3Dnl1d1t1%26s%3Dusdeur%3DX%22%3B&format=json&callback=

This will bring an example like below:

{
 "query": {
  "count": 1,
  "created": "2016-02-12T07:07:30Z",
  "lang": "en-US",
  "results": {
   "row": {
    "col0": "USD/EUR",
    "col1": "0.8835",
    "col2": "2/12/2016",
    "col3": "7:07am"
   }
  }
 }
}

You can try the console

I think this does not break any Term of Service as it is a 100% yahoo solution.

How do I reformat HTML code using Sublime Text 2?

I created a Package called HTMLBeautify that does a decent job of reformatting HTML. I based it off of a Perl script I found back in 1997—I updated it to work with all the new fangled modern tags. :)

What’s the difference between Response.Write() andResponse.Output.Write()?

Here Response.Write():to display only string and you can not display any other data type values like int,date,etc.Conversion(from one data type to another) is not allowed. whereas Response .Output .Write(): you can display any type of data like int, date ,string etc.,by giving index values.

Here is example:

protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
       Response.Write ("hi good morning!"+"is it right?");//only strings are allowed
       Response.Write("Scott is {0} at {1:d}", "cool", DateTime.Now);//this will give error(conversion is not allowed)
       Response.Output.Write("\nhi goood morning!");//works fine
       Response.Output.Write("Jai is {0} on {1:d}", "cool", DateTime.Now);//here the current date will be converted into string and displayed
    }

Is there a 'foreach' function in Python 3?

Every occurence of "foreach" I've seen (PHP, C#, ...) does basically the same as pythons "for" statement.

These are more or less equivalent:

// PHP:
foreach ($array as $val) {
    print($val);
}

// C#
foreach (String val in array) {
    console.writeline(val);
}

// Python
for val in array:
    print(val)

So, yes, there is a "foreach" in python. It's called "for".

What you're describing is an "array map" function. This could be done with list comprehensions in python:

names = ['tom', 'john', 'simon']

namesCapitalized = [capitalize(n) for n in names]

Java URL encoding of query string parameters

URL url= new URL("http://example.com/query?q=random word £500 bank $");
URI uri = new URI(url.getProtocol(), url.getUserInfo(), IDN.toASCII(url.getHost()), url.getPort(), url.getPath(), url.getQuery(), url.getRef());
String correctEncodedURL=uri.toASCIIString();
System.out.println(correctEncodedURL);

Prints

http://example.com/query?q=random%20word%20%C2%A3500%20bank%20$

What is happening here?

1. Split URL into structural parts. Use java.net.URL for it.

2. Encode each structural part properly!

3. Use IDN.toASCII(putDomainNameHere) to Punycode encode the host name!

4. Use java.net.URI.toASCIIString() to percent-encode, NFC encoded unicode - (better would be NFKC!). For more info see: How to encode properly this URL

In some cases it is advisable to check if the url is already encoded. Also replace '+' encoded spaces with '%20' encoded spaces.

Here are some examples that will also work properly

{
      "in" : "http://???????.com/",
     "out" : "http://xn--mgba3gch31f.com/"
},{
     "in" : "http://www.example.com/?/foo",
     "out" : "http://www.example.com/%E2%80%A5/foo"
},{
     "in" : "http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/first book.pdf",
     "out" : "http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/first%20book.pdf"
}, {
     "in" : "http://example.com/query?q=random word £500 bank $",
     "out" : "http://example.com/query?q=random%20word%20%C2%A3500%20bank%20$"
}

The solution passes around 100 of the testcases provided by Web Plattform Tests.

Need to find a max of three numbers in java

It would help if you provided the error you are seeing. Look at http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/Math.html and you will see that max only returns the max between two numbers, so likely you code is not even compiling.

Solve all your compilation errors first.

Then your homework will consist of finding the max of three numbers by comparing the first two together, and comparing that max result with the third value. You should have enough to find your answer now.

How to figure out the SMTP server host?

generally smtp servers name are smtp.yourdomain.com or mail.yourdomain.com open command prompt try to run following two commands

  1. >ping smtp.yourdomain.com
  2. >ping mail.yourdomain.com

you will most probably get response from any one from the above two commands.and that will be your smtp server

If this doesn't work open your cpanel --> go to your mailing accounts -- > click on configure mail account -- > there somewhere in the page you will get the information about your smtp server

it will be written like this way may be :

Incoming Server:    mail.yourdomain.com
IMAP Port: ---
POP3 Port: ---
Outgoing Server:    mail.yourdomain.com
SMTP Port: ---

Cannot apply indexing with [] to an expression of type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<>

One reason can be that the IEnumerable may contain an unknown number of items. Some implementations produce the list of items as you iterate over it (see yield for samples). That does not work very well with accessing items using an index. which would require you to know that there are at least that many items in the list.

What characters do I need to escape in XML documents?

It depends on the context. For the content, it is < and &, and ]]> (though a string of three instead of one character).

For attribute values, it is <, &, ", and '.

For CDATA, it is ]]>.

How to open a PDF file in an <iframe>?

Using an iframe to "render" a PDF will not work on all browsers; it depends on how the browser handles PDF files. Some browsers (such as Firefox and Chrome) have a built-in PDF rendered which allows them to display the PDF inline where as some older browsers (perhaps older versions of IE attempt to download the file instead).

Instead, I recommend checking out PDFObject which is a Javascript library to embed PDFs in HTML files. It handles browser compatibility pretty well and will most likely work on IE8.

In your HTML, you could set up a div to display the PDFs:

<div id="pdfRenderer"></div>

Then, you can have Javascript code to embed a PDF in that div:

var pdf = new PDFObject({
  url: "https://something.com/HTC_One_XL_User_Guide.pdf",
  id: "pdfRendered",
  pdfOpenParams: {
    view: "FitH"
  }
}).embed("pdfRenderer");

Android ListView in fragment example

Your Fragment can subclass ListFragment.
And onCreateView() from ListFragment will return a ListView you can then populate.

How to get the index with the key in Python dictionary?

No, there is no straightforward way because Python dictionaries do not have a set ordering.

From the documentation:

Keys and values are listed in an arbitrary order which is non-random, varies across Python implementations, and depends on the dictionary’s history of insertions and deletions.

In other words, the 'index' of b depends entirely on what was inserted into and deleted from the mapping before:

>>> map={}
>>> map['b']=1
>>> map
{'b': 1}
>>> map['a']=1
>>> map
{'a': 1, 'b': 1}
>>> map['c']=1
>>> map
{'a': 1, 'c': 1, 'b': 1}

As of Python 2.7, you could use the collections.OrderedDict() type instead, if insertion order is important to your application.

How can I wait for set of asynchronous callback functions?

You can emulate it like this:

  countDownLatch = {
     count: 0,
     check: function() {
         this.count--;
         if (this.count == 0) this.calculate();
     },
     calculate: function() {...}
  };

then each async call does this:

countDownLatch.count++;

while in each asynch call back at the end of the method you add this line:

countDownLatch.check();

In other words, you emulate a count-down-latch functionality.

How to extract a value from a string using regex and a shell?

Yes regex can certainly be used to extract part of a string. Unfortunately different flavours of *nix and different tools use slightly different Regex variants.

This sed command should work on most flavours (Tested on OS/X and Redhat)

echo '12 BBQ ,45 rofl, 89 lol' | sed  's/^.*,\([0-9][0-9]*\).*$/\1/g'

How do I auto-hide placeholder text upon focus using css or jquery?

Besides all of above,I have two ideas.

You can add an element that imitates the palceholder.Then using javascript control the element showing and hiding.

But it is so complex,the other one is using the brother's selector of css.Just like this:

_x000D_

OAuth 2.0 Authorization Header

For those looking for an example of how to pass the OAuth2 authorization (access token) in the header (as opposed to using a request or body parameter), here is how it's done:

Remove space above and below <p> tag HTML

<p> tags have built in padding and margin. You could create a CSS selector combined with some javascript for instances when your <p> is empty. Probably overkill, but it should do what you need it to do.

CSS example: .NoPaddingOrMargin {padding: 0px; margin:0px}

Force Intellij IDEA to reread all maven dependencies

There is also one useful setting that tells IntelliJ to check for new versions of dependencies even if the version numbers didn't change. We had a local maven repository and a snapshot project that was updated a few times but the version numbers stood the same. The problem was that IntelliJ/Maven didn't update this project because of the fixed version number.

To enable checking for a changed dependency although the version number didn't change go to the "Maven Projects" tab, select "Maven settings" and there activate "Always update snapshots".

A html space is showing as %2520 instead of %20

A bit of explaining as to what that %2520 is :

The common space character is encoded as %20 as you noted yourself. The % character is encoded as %25.

The way you get %2520 is when your url already has a %20 in it, and gets urlencoded again, which transforms the %20 to %2520.

Are you (or any framework you might be using) double encoding characters?

Edit: Expanding a bit on this, especially for LOCAL links. Assuming you want to link to the resource C:\my path\my file.html:

  • if you provide a local file path only, the browser is expected to encode and protect all characters given (in the above, you should give it with spaces as shown, since % is a valid filename character and as such it will be encoded) when converting to a proper URL (see next point).
  • if you provide a URL with the file:// protocol, you are basically stating that you have taken all precautions and encoded what needs encoding, the rest should be treated as special characters. In the above example, you should thus provide file:///c:/my%20path/my%20file.html. Aside from fixing slashes, clients should not encode characters here.

NOTES:

  • Slash direction - forward slashes / are used in URLs, reverse slashes \ in Windows paths, but most clients will work with both by converting them to the proper forward slash.
  • In addition, there are 3 slashes after the protocol name, since you are silently referring to the current machine instead of a remote host ( the full unabbreviated path would be file://localhost/c:/my%20path/my%file.html ), but again most clients will work without the host part (ie two slashes only) by assuming you mean the local machine and adding the third slash.

How to check if a MySQL query using the legacy API was successful?

mysql_query function is used for executing mysql query in php. mysql_query returns false if query execution fails.Alternatively you can try using mysql_error() function For e.g

$result=mysql_query($sql)

or

die(mysql_error());

In above code snippet if query execution fails then it will terminate the execution and display mysql error while execution of sql query.

How to easily map c++ enums to strings

If you want to get string representations of MyEnum variables, then templates won't cut it. Template can be specialized on integral values known at compile-time.

However, if that's what you want then try:

#include <iostream>

enum MyEnum { VAL1, VAL2 };

template<MyEnum n> struct StrMyEnum {
    static char const* name() { return "Unknown"; }
};

#define STRENUM(val, str) \
  template<> struct StrMyEnum<val> { \
    static char const* name() { return str; }};

STRENUM(VAL1, "Value 1");
STRENUM(VAL2, "Value 2");

int main() {
  std::cout << StrMyEnum<VAL2>::name();
}

This is verbose, but will catch errors like the one you made in question - your case VAL1 is duplicated.

How to Get True Size of MySQL Database?

If you want to find the size of all MySQL databases, us this command, it will show their respective sizes in megabytes;

SELECT table_schema "database", sum(data_length + index_length)/1024/1024 "size in MB" FROM information_schema.TABLES GROUP BY table_schema;

If you have large databases, you can use the following command to show the result in gigabytes;

SELECT table_schema "database", sum(data_length + index_length)/1024/1024/1024 "size in GB" FROM information_schema.TABLES GROUP BY table_schema;

If you want to show the size of only a specific database, for example YOUR_DATABASE_NAME, you could use the following query;

SELECT table_schema "database", sum(data_length + index_length)/1024/1024/1024 "size in GB" FROM information_schema.TABLES WHERE table_schema='YOUR_DATABASE_NAME' GROUP BY table_schema;

Incrementing in C++ - When to use x++ or ++x?

From cppreference when incrementing iterators:

You should prefer pre-increment operator (++iter) to post-increment operator (iter++) if you are not going to use the old value. Post-increment is generally implemented as follows:

   Iter operator++(int)   {
     Iter tmp(*this); // store the old value in a temporary object
     ++*this;         // call pre-increment
     return tmp;      // return the old value   }

Obviously, it's less efficient than pre-increment.

Pre-increment does not generate the temporary object. This can make a significant difference if your object is expensive to create.

How do I debug jquery AJAX calls?

iPhone: Setting Navigation Bar Title

if you are doing it all by code in the viewDidLoad method of the UIViewController you should only add self.title = @"title text";

something like this:

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];
    self.title = @"title";
}

you could also try self.navigationItem.title = @"title";

also check if your navigationItem is not null and if you have set a custom background to the navigationbar check if the title is set without it.

Understanding the basics of Git and GitHub

  1. What is the difference between Git and GitHub?

    Git is a distributed version control system. It usually runs at the command line of your local machine. It keeps track of your files and modifications to those files in a "repository" (or "repo"), but only when you tell it to do so. (In other words, you decide which files to track and when to take a "snapshot" of any modifications.)

    In contrast, GitHub is a website that allows you to publish your Git repositories online, which can be useful for many reasons (see #3).

  2. Is Git saving every repository locally (in the user's machine) and in GitHub?

    Git is known as a "distributed" (rather than "centralized") version control system because you can run it locally and disconnected from the Internet, and then "push" your changes to a remote system (such as GitHub) whenever you like. Thus, repo changes only appear on GitHub when you manually tell Git to push those changes.

  3. Can you use Git without GitHub? If yes, what would be the benefit for using GitHub?

    Yes, you can use Git without GitHub. Git is the "workhorse" program that actually tracks your changes, whereas GitHub is simply hosting your repositories (and provides additional functionality not available in Git). Here are some of the benefits of using GitHub:

    • It provides a backup of your files.
    • It gives you a visual interface for navigating your repos.
    • It gives other people a way to navigate your repos.
    • It makes repo collaboration easy (e.g., multiple people contributing to the same project).
    • It provides a lightweight issue tracking system.
  4. How does Git compare to a backup system such as Time Machine?

    Git does backup your files, though it gives you much more granular control than a traditional backup system over what and when you backup. Specifically, you "commit" every time you want to take a snapshot of changes, and that commit includes both a description of your changes and the line-by-line details of those changes. This is optimal for source code because you can easily see the change history for any given file at a line-by-line level.

  5. Is this a manual process, in other words if you don't commit you won't have a new version of the changes made?

    Yes, this is a manual process.

  6. If are not collaborating and you are already using a backup system why would you use Git?

    • Git employs a powerful branching system that allows you to work on multiple, independent lines of development simultaneously and then merge those branches together as needed.
    • Git allows you to view the line-by-line differences between different versions of your files, which makes troubleshooting easier.
    • Git forces you to describe each of your commits, which makes it significantly easier to track down a specific previous version of a given file (and potentially revert to that previous version).
    • If you ever need help with your code, having it tracked by Git and hosted on GitHub makes it much easier for someone else to look at your code.

For getting started with Git, I recommend the online book Pro Git as well as GitRef as a handy reference guide. For getting started with GitHub, I like the GitHub's Bootcamp and their GitHub Guides. Finally, I created a short videos series to introduce Git and GitHub to beginners.

Getting IP address of client

As basZero mentioned, X-Forwarded-For should be checked for comma. (Look at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Forwarded-For). The general format of the field is: X-Forwarded-For: clientIP, proxy1, proxy2... and so on. So we will be seeing something like this : X-FORWARDED-FOR: 129.77.168.62, 129.77.63.62.

        smtpClient.Host = "mail.mydomain.com";
        smtpClient.UseDefaultCredentials = false;
        smtpClient.Credentials = basicCredential;

        message.From = fromAddress;
        message.Subject = "your subject";
        // Set IsBodyHtml to true means you can send HTML email.
        message.IsBodyHtml = true;
        message.Body = "<h1>your message body</h1>";
        message.To.Add("[email protected]");

        try
        {
            smtpClient.Send(message);
        }
        catch(Exception ex)
        {
            //Error, could not send the message
            Response.Write(ex.Message);

}

You may use the above code.

How can I pause setInterval() functions?

I know this thread is old, but this could be another solution:

var do_this = null;

function y(){
   // what you wanna do
}

do_this = setInterval(y, 1000);

function y_start(){
    do_this = setInterval(y, 1000);
};
function y_stop(){
    do_this = clearInterval(do_this);

How to log a method's execution time exactly in milliseconds?

NSDate *methodStart = [NSDate date];

/* ... Do whatever you need to do ... */

NSDate *methodFinish = [NSDate date];
NSTimeInterval executionTime = [methodFinish timeIntervalSinceDate:methodStart];
NSLog(@"executionTime = %f", executionTime);

Swift:

let methodStart = NSDate()

/* ... Do whatever you need to do ... */

let methodFinish = NSDate()
let executionTime = methodFinish.timeIntervalSinceDate(methodStart)
print("Execution time: \(executionTime)")

Swift3:

let methodStart = Date()

/* ... Do whatever you need to do ... */

let methodFinish = Date()
let executionTime = methodFinish.timeIntervalSince(methodStart)
print("Execution time: \(executionTime)")

Easy to use and has sub-millisecond precision.

Differences between action and actionListener

As BalusC indicated, the actionListener by default swallows exceptions, but in JSF 2.0 there is a little more to this. Namely, it doesn't just swallows and logs, but actually publishes the exception.

This happens through a call like this:

context.getApplication().publishEvent(context, ExceptionQueuedEvent.class,
    new ExceptionQueuedEventContext(context, exception, source, phaseId)
);

The default listener for this event is the ExceptionHandler which for Mojarra is set to com.sun.faces.context.ExceptionHandlerImpl. This implementation will basically rethrow any exception, except when it concerns an AbortProcessingException, which is logged. ActionListeners wrap the exception that is thrown by the client code in such an AbortProcessingException which explains why these are always logged.

This ExceptionHandler can be replaced however in faces-config.xml with a custom implementation:

<exception-handlerfactory>
   com.foo.myExceptionHandler
</exception-handlerfactory>

Instead of listening globally, a single bean can also listen to these events. The following is a proof of concept of this:

@ManagedBean
@RequestScoped
public class MyBean {

    public void actionMethod(ActionEvent event) {

        FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().subscribeToEvent(ExceptionQueuedEvent.class, new SystemEventListener() {

        @Override
        public void processEvent(SystemEvent event) throws AbortProcessingException {
            ExceptionQueuedEventContext content = (ExceptionQueuedEventContext)event.getSource();
            throw new RuntimeException(content.getException());
        }

        @Override
        public boolean isListenerForSource(Object source) {
            return true;
        }
        });

        throw new RuntimeException("test");
    }

}

(note, this is not how one should normally code listeners, this is only for demonstration purposes!)

Calling this from a Facelet like this:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
    xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core">
    <h:body>
        <h:form>
            <h:commandButton value="test" actionListener="#{myBean.actionMethod}"/>
        </h:form>
    </h:body>
</html>

Will result in an error page being displayed.

How do I convert from a string to an integer in Visual Basic?

You can try these:

Dim valueStr as String = "10"

Dim valueIntConverted as Integer = CInt(valueStr)

Another example:

Dim newValueConverted as Integer = Val("100")

How do I append one string to another in Python?

str1 = "Hello"
str2 = "World"
newstr = " ".join((str1, str2))

That joins str1 and str2 with a space as separators. You can also do "".join(str1, str2, ...). str.join() takes an iterable, so you'd have to put the strings in a list or a tuple.

That's about as efficient as it gets for a builtin method.

TypeError: ufunc 'add' did not contain a loop with signature matching types

You have a numpy array of strings, not floats. This is what is meant by dtype('<U9') -- a little endian encoded unicode string with up to 9 characters.

try:

return sum(np.asarray(listOfEmb, dtype=float)) / float(len(listOfEmb))

However, you don't need numpy here at all. You can really just do:

return sum(float(embedding) for embedding in listOfEmb) / len(listOfEmb)

Or if you're really set on using numpy.

return np.asarray(listOfEmb, dtype=float).mean()

How to convert int[] to Integer[] in Java?

};

wrapper.toArray(mInteger);

How do I truncate a .NET string?

Here is a vb.net solution, mark that the if (although ugly) statement improves performance because we do not need the substring statement when string is already smaller than maxlength... By making it an extention to string it is easy to use...

    Public Function Truncate(String__1 As String, maxlength As Integer) As String
        If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(String__1) AndAlso String__1.Length > maxlength Then
            Return String__1.Substring(0, maxlength)
        Else
            Return String__1
        End If
    End Function

Creating a copy of an object in C#

You could do:

class myClass : ICloneable
{
    public String test;
    public object Clone()
    {
        return this.MemberwiseClone();
    }
}

then you can do

myClass a = new myClass();
myClass b = (myClass)a.Clone();

N.B. MemberwiseClone() Creates a shallow copy of the current System.Object.

Explain the concept of a stack frame in a nutshell

If you understand stack very well then you will understand how memory works in program and if you understand how memory works in program you will understand how function store in program and if you understand how function store in program you will understand how recursive function works and if you understand how recursive function works you will understand how compiler works and if you understand how compiler works your mind will works as compiler and you will debug any program very easily

Let me explain how stack works:

First you have to know how functions are represented in stack :

Heap stores dynamically allocated values.
Stack stores automatic allocation and deletion values.

enter image description here

Let's understand with example :

def hello(x):
    if x==1:
        return "op"
    else:
        u=1
        e=12
        s=hello(x-1)
        e+=1
        print(s)
        print(x)
        u+=1
    return e

hello(4)

Now understand parts of this program :

enter image description here

Now let's see what is stack and what are stack parts:

enter image description here

Allocation of the stack :

Remember one thing: if any function's return condition gets satisfied, no matter it has loaded the local variables or not, it will immediately return from stack with it's stack frame. It means that whenever any recursive function get base condition satisfied and we put a return after base condition, the base condition will not wait to load local variables which are located in the “else” part of program. It will immediately return the current frame from the stack following which the next frame is now in the activation record.

See this in practice:

enter image description here

Deallocation of the block:

So now whenever a function encounters return statement, it delete the current frame from the stack.

While returning from the stack, values will returned in reverse of the original order in which they were allocated in stack.

CSS media query to target only iOS devices

As mentioned above, the short answer is no. But I'm in need of something similar in the app I'm working on now, yet the areas where the CSS needs to be different are limited to very specific areas of a page.

If you're like me and don't need to serve up an entirely different stylesheet, another option would be to detect a device running iOS in the way described in this question's selected answer: Detect if device is iOS

Once you've detected the iOS device you could add a class to the area you're targeting using Javascript (eg. the document.getElementsByTagName("yourElementHere")[0].setAttribute("class", "iOS-device");, jQuery, PHP or whatever, and style that class accordingly using the pre-existing stylesheet.

.iOS-device {
      style-you-want-to-set: yada;
}

Test for array of string type in TypeScript

there is a little problem here because the

if (typeof item !== 'string') {
    return false
}

will not stop the foreach. So the function will return true even if the array does contain none string values.

This seems to wok for me:

function isStringArray(value: any): value is number[] {
  if (Object.prototype.toString.call(value) === '[object Array]') {
     if (value.length < 1) {
       return false;
     } else {
       return value.every((d: any) => typeof d === 'string');
     }
  }
  return false;
}

Proper indentation for Python multiline strings

You probably want to line up with the """

def foo():
    string = """line one
             line two
             line three"""

Since the newlines and spaces are included in the string itself, you will have to postprocess it. If you don't want to do that and you have a whole lot of text, you might want to store it separately in a text file. If a text file does not work well for your application and you don't want to postprocess, I'd probably go with

def foo():
    string = ("this is an "
              "implicitly joined "
              "string")

If you want to postprocess a multiline string to trim out the parts you don't need, you should consider the textwrap module or the technique for postprocessing docstrings presented in PEP 257:

def trim(docstring):
    if not docstring:
        return ''
    # Convert tabs to spaces (following the normal Python rules)
    # and split into a list of lines:
    lines = docstring.expandtabs().splitlines()
    # Determine minimum indentation (first line doesn't count):
    indent = sys.maxint
    for line in lines[1:]:
        stripped = line.lstrip()
        if stripped:
            indent = min(indent, len(line) - len(stripped))
    # Remove indentation (first line is special):
    trimmed = [lines[0].strip()]
    if indent < sys.maxint:
        for line in lines[1:]:
            trimmed.append(line[indent:].rstrip())
    # Strip off trailing and leading blank lines:
    while trimmed and not trimmed[-1]:
        trimmed.pop()
    while trimmed and not trimmed[0]:
        trimmed.pop(0)

What does %~dp0 mean, and how does it work?

%~dp0 expands to current directory path of the running batch file.

To get clear understanding, let's create a batch file in a directory.

C:\script\test.bat

with contents:

@echo off
echo %~dp0

When you run it from command prompt, you will see this result:

C:\script\

Return None if Dictionary key is not available

You could use a dict object's get() method, as others have already suggested. Alternatively, depending on exactly what you're doing, you might be able use a try/except suite like this:

try:
   <to do something with d[key]>
except KeyError:
   <deal with it not being there>

Which is considered to be a very "Pythonic" approach to handling the case.

How to generate .NET 4.0 classes from xsd?

xsd.exe as mentioned by Marc Gravell. The fastest way to get up and running IMO.

Or if you need more flexibility/options :

Pass Javascript Array -> PHP

Here's a function to convert js array or object into a php-compatible array to be sent as http get request parameter:

function obj2url(prefix, obj) {
        var args=new Array();
        if(typeof(obj) == 'object'){
            for(var i in obj)
                args[args.length]=any2url(prefix+'['+encodeURIComponent(i)+']', obj[i]);
        }
        else
            args[args.length]=prefix+'='+encodeURIComponent(obj);
        return args.join('&');
    }

prefix is a parameter name.

EDIT:

var a = {
    one: two,
    three: four
};

alert('/script.php?'+obj2url('a', a));

Will produce

/script.php?a[one]=two&a[three]=four

which will allow you to use $_GET['a'] as an array in script.php. You will need to figure your way into your favorite ajax engine on supplying the url to call script.php from js.

How to change the color of an svg element?

You can try with filter hack:

.colorize-pink {
  filter: brightness(0.5) sepia(1) hue-rotate(-70deg) saturate(5);
}

.colorize-navy {
  filter: brightness(0.2) sepia(1) hue-rotate(180deg) saturate(5);
}

.colorize-blue {
  filter: brightness(0.5) sepia(1) hue-rotate(140deg) saturate(6);
}

Import error: No module name urllib2

As stated in the urllib2 documentation:

The urllib2 module has been split across several modules in Python 3 named urllib.request and urllib.error. The 2to3 tool will automatically adapt imports when converting your sources to Python 3.

So you should instead be saying

from urllib.request import urlopen
html = urlopen("http://www.google.com/").read()
print(html)

Your current, now-edited code sample is incorrect because you are saying urllib.urlopen("http://www.google.com/") instead of just urlopen("http://www.google.com/").

chart.js load totally new data

There is a way to do this without clearing the canvas or starting over, but you have to man handle the creation of the chart so that the data is in the same format for when you update.

Here is how I did it.

    var ctx = document.getElementById("myChart").getContext("2d");
    if (chartExists) {
        for (i=0;i<10;i++){
            myNewChart.scale.xLabels[i]=dbLabels[i];
            myNewChart.datasets[0].bars[i].value=dbOnAir[i];
        }
        myNewChart.update();
      }else{
          console.log('chart doesnt exist');
          myNewChart = new Chart(ctx).Bar(dataNew);
          myNewChart.removeData();
          for (i=0;i<10;i++){
              myNewChart.addData([10],dbLabels[i]);
          }
          for (i=0;i<10;i++){
              myNewChart.datasets[0].bars[i].value=dbOnAir[i];
          }
          myNewChart.update();
          chartExists=true;
        }

I basically scrap the data loaded in at creation, and then reform with the add data method. This means that I can then access all the points. Whenever I have tried to access the data structure that is created by the:

Chart(ctx).Bar(dataNew);

command, I can't access what I need. This means you can change all the data points, in the same way you created them, and also call update() without animating completely from scratch.

Getting year in moment.js

The year() function just retrieves the year component of the underlying Date object, so it returns a number.

Calling format('YYYY') will invoke moment's string formatting functions, which will parse the format string supplied, and build a new string containing the appropriate data. Since you only are passing YYYY, then the result will be a string containing the year.

If all you need is the year, then use the year() function. It will be faster, as there is less work to do.

Do note that while years are the same in this regard, months are not! Calling format('M') will return months in the range 1-12. Calling month() will return months in the range 0-11. This is due to the same behavior of the underlying Date object.

Maven "build path specifies execution environment J2SE-1.5", even though I changed it to 1.7

I was facing the same issue. In pom.xml I have specified maven compiler plugin to pick 1.7 as source and target. Even then when I would import the git project in eclipse it would pick 1.5 as compile version for the project. To be noted that the eclipse has installed runtime set to JDK 1.8

I also checked that none of the .classpath .impl or .project file is checked in git repository.

Solution that worked for me: I simply deleted .classpath files and did a 'maven-update project'. .classpath file was regenerated and it picked up 1.7 as compile version from pom file.

What does "Changes not staged for commit" mean

It's another way of Git telling you:

Hey, I see you made some changes, but keep in mind that when you write pages to my history, those changes won't be in these pages.

Changes to files are not staged if you do not explicitly git add them (and this makes sense).

So when you git commit, those changes won't be added since they are not staged. If you want to commit them, you have to stage them first (ie. git add).

What's the default password of mariadb on fedora?

For me, password = admin, worked. I installed it using pacman, Arch (Manjaro KDE).

NB: MariaDB was already installed, as a dependency of Amarok.

MSVCP140.dll missing

That's probably the C++ runtime library. Since it's a DLL it is not included in your program executable. Your friend can download those libraries from Microsoft.

SOAP Action WSDL

If its a SOAP 1.1 service then you will also need to include a SOAPAction HTTP header field:

Service Reference Error: Failed to generate code for the service reference

I had this problem when trying to update my service reference (The error only shows up when adding a service reference though) but didn't want to remove the assembly reuse checkbox.

What worked for me was the following:

  • Remove referenced assembly that I wanted to re-use
  • Update service reference
  • Keep "Reuse types in specified referenced assemblies"
  • Ignore the errors, it's because the reference is missing!
  • Add reference to assembly again to fix the errors
  • Update service reference again

Voila, now it actually updates and doesn't try to remove all of my generated code anymore.

I was almost ready to give up on the re-use types feature...

EDIT: Also make sure that the build config is AnyCPU or x86, since svcutil is buggy with x64.

To the downvoter: Sorry if it didn't work for you, I don't even know why it worked for me, but it did. I may have done something else that time that fixed the problem, but no way to know now.

How to capitalize the first letter of text in a TextView in an Android Application

I should be able to accomplish this through standard java string manipulation, nothing Android or TextView specific.

Something like:

String upperString = myString.substring(0, 1).toUpperCase() + myString.substring(1).toLowerCase();

Although there are probably a million ways to accomplish this. See String documentation.

EDITED I added the .toLowerCase()

Split output of command by columns using Bash?

I think the simplest way is to use awk. Example:

How to serialize Object to JSON?

The "reference" Java implementation by Sean Leary is here on github. Make sure to have the latest version - different libraries pull in versions buggy old versions from 2009.

Java EE 7 has a JSON API in javax.json, see the Javadoc. From what I can tell, it doesn't have a simple method to marshall any object to JSON, you need to construct a JsonObject or a JsonArray.

import javax.json.*;

JsonObject value = Json.createObjectBuilder()
 .add("firstName", "John")
 .add("lastName", "Smith")
 .add("age", 25)
 .add("address", Json.createObjectBuilder()
     .add("streetAddress", "21 2nd Street")
     .add("city", "New York")
     .add("state", "NY")
     .add("postalCode", "10021"))
 .add("phoneNumber", Json.createArrayBuilder()
     .add(Json.createObjectBuilder()
         .add("type", "home")
         .add("number", "212 555-1234"))
     .add(Json.createObjectBuilder()
         .add("type", "fax")
         .add("number", "646 555-4567")))
 .build();

JsonWriter jsonWriter = Json.createWriter(...);
jsonWriter.writeObject(value);
jsonWriter.close();

But I assume the other libraries like GSON will have adapters to create objects implementing those interfaces.

Using LIKE in an Oracle IN clause

I prefer this

WHERE CASE WHEN my_col LIKE '%val1%' THEN 1
           WHEN my_col LIKE '%val2%' THEN 1
           WHEN my_col LIKE '%val3%' THEN 1
           ELSE 0
           END = 1

I'm not saying it's optimal but it works and it's easily understood. Most of my queries are adhoc used once so performance is generally not an issue for me.

HTTPS using Jersey Client

For Jersey 2 you'd need to modify the code:

        return ClientBuilder.newBuilder()
            .withConfig(config)
            .hostnameVerifier(new TrustAllHostNameVerifier())
            .sslContext(ctx)
            .build();

How to read line by line of a text area HTML tag

This would give you all valid numeric values in lines. You can change the loop to validate, strip out invalid characters, etc - whichever you want.

var lines = [];
$('#my_textarea_selector').val().split("\n").each(function ()
{
    if (parseInt($(this) != 'NaN')
        lines[] = parseInt($(this));
}

Get the generated SQL statement from a SqlCommand object?

You can't, because it does not generate any SQL.

The parameterized query (the one in CommandText) is sent to the SQL Server as the equivalent of a prepared statement. When you execute the command, the parameters and the query text are treated separately. At no point in time a complete SQL string is generated.

You can use SQL Profiler to take a look behind the scenes.

How to set an image as a background for Frame in Swing GUI of java?

This is easily done by replacing the frame's content pane with a JPanel which draws your image:

try {
    final Image backgroundImage = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(new File(...));
    setContentPane(new JPanel(new BorderLayout()) {
        @Override public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
            g.drawImage(backgroundImage, 0, 0, null);
        }
    });
} catch (IOException e) {
    throw new RuntimeException(e);
}

This example also sets the panel's layout to BorderLayout to match the default content pane layout.

(If you have any trouble seeing the image, you might need to call setOpaque(false) on some other components so that you can see through to the background.)

Restricting JTextField input to Integers

Here's one approach that uses a keylistener,but uses the keyChar (instead of the keyCode):

http://edenti.deis.unibo.it/utils/Java-tips/Validating%20numerical%20input%20in%20a%20JTextField.txt

 keyText.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() {
    public void keyTyped(KeyEvent e) {
      char c = e.getKeyChar();
      if (!((c >= '0') && (c <= '9') ||
         (c == KeyEvent.VK_BACK_SPACE) ||
         (c == KeyEvent.VK_DELETE))) {
        getToolkit().beep();
        e.consume();
      }
    }
  });

Another approach (which personally I find almost as over-complicated as Swing's JTree model) is to use Formatted Text Fields:

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/components/formattedtextfield.html

Using a Python subprocess call to invoke a Python script

The subprocess call is a very literal-minded system call. it can be used for any generic process...hence does not know what to do with a Python script automatically.

Try

call ('python somescript.py')

If that doesn't work, you might want to try an absolute path, and/or check permissions on your Python script...the typical fun stuff.

What characters are valid for JavaScript variable names?

Actually, ECMAScript says on page 15: That an identifier may start with a $, an underscore or a UnicodeLetter, and then it goes on (just below that) to specify that a UnicodeLetter can be any character from the unicode catagories, Lo, Ll, Lu, Lt, Lm and Nl. And when you look up those catagories you will see that this opens up a lot more possibilities than just latin letters. Just search for "unicode catagories" in google and you can find them.

Under what circumstances can I call findViewById with an Options Menu / Action Bar item?

I am trying to obtain a handle on one of the views in the Action Bar

I will assume that you mean something established via android:actionLayout in your <item> element of your <menu> resource.

I have tried calling findViewById(R.id.menu_item)

To retrieve the View associated with your android:actionLayout, call findItem() on the Menu to retrieve the MenuItem, then call getActionView() on the MenuItem. This can be done any time after you have inflated the menu resource.

Haskell: Converting Int to String

How to match "anything up until this sequence of characters" in a regular expression?

The $ marks the end of a string, so something like this should work: [[^abc]*]$ where you're looking for anything NOT ENDING in any iteration of abc, but it would have to be at the end

Also if you're using a scripting language with regex (like php or js), they have a search function that stops when it first encounters a pattern (and you can specify start from the left or start from the right, or with php, you can do an implode to mirror the string).

Loop through an array of strings in Bash?

In the same spirit as 4ndrew's answer:

listOfNames="RA
RB
R C
RD"

# To allow for other whitespace in the string:
# 1. add double quotes around the list variable, or
# 2. see the IFS note (under 'Side Notes')

for databaseName in "$listOfNames" # <-- Note: Added "" quotes.
do
  echo "$databaseName"  # (i.e. do action / processing of $databaseName here...)
done

# Outputs
# RA
# RB
# R C
# RD

B. No whitespace in the names:

listOfNames="RA
RB
R C
RD"

for databaseName in $listOfNames # Note: No quotes
do
  echo "$databaseName"  # (i.e. do action / processing of $databaseName here...)
done

# Outputs
# RA
# RB
# R
# C
# RD

Notes

  1. In the second example, using listOfNames="RA RB R C RD" has the same output.

Other ways to bring in data include:

Read from stdin

# line delimited (each databaseName is stored on a line)
while read databaseName
do
  echo "$databaseName"  # i.e. do action / processing of $databaseName here...
done # <<< or_another_input_method_here
  1. the bash IFS "field separator to line" [1] delimiter can be specified in the script to allow other whitespace (i.e. IFS='\n', or for MacOS IFS='\r')
  2. I like the accepted answer also :) -- I've include these snippets as other helpful ways that also answer the question.
  3. Including #!/bin/bash at the top of the script file indicates the execution environment.
  4. It took me months to figure out how to code this simply :)

Other Sources (while read loop)

How do I find an element position in std::vector?

First of all, do you really need to store indices like this? Have you looked into std::map, enabling you to store key => value pairs?

Secondly, if you used iterators instead, you would be able to return std::vector.end() to indicate an invalid result. To convert an iterator to an index you simply use

size_t i = it - myvector.begin();

Getting "unixtime" in Java

Avoid the Date object creation w/ System.currentTimeMillis(). A divide by 1000 gets you to Unix epoch.

As mentioned in a comment, you typically want a primitive long (lower-case-l long) not a boxed object long (capital-L Long) for the unixTime variable's type.

long unixTime = System.currentTimeMillis() / 1000L;

Switch statement fall-through...should it be allowed?

I don't like my switch statements to fall through - it's far too error prone and hard to read. The only exception is when multiple case statements all do exactly the same thing.

If there is some common code that multiple branches of a switch statement want to use, I extract that into a separate common function that can be called in any branch.

How to copy files from host to Docker container?

  1. Get container name or short container id:

    $ docker ps

  2. Get full container id:

Reorder HTML table rows using drag-and-drop

Apparently the question poorly describes the OP's problem, but this question is the top search result for dragging to reorder table rows, so that is what I will answer. I wasn't interested in bringing in jQuery UI for something so simple, so here is a jQuery only solution:

_x000D_

  var tr = $(e.target).closest("TR"),

  if (si == 0) return;
  b.addClass("grabCursor").css("userSelect", "none");
  tr.addClass("grabbed");

  function move(e) {
    if (!drag && Math.abs(e.pageY - sy) < 10) return;
    drag = true;
    tr.siblings().each(function() {
      var s = $(this),
        i = s.index(),
        y = s.offset().top;
      if (i > 0 && e.pageY >= y && e.pageY < y + s.outerHeight()) {
        if (i < tr.index())
          tr.insertAfter(s);
        else
          tr.insertBefore(s);
        return false;

C# winforms combobox dynamic autocomplete

I've found Max Lambertini's answer very helpful, but have modified his HandleTextChanged method as such:

    //I like min length set to 3, to not give too many options
    //after the first character or two the user types
    public Int32 AutoCompleteMinLength {get; set;}

    private void HandleTextChanged() {
        var txt = comboBox.Text;
        if (txt.Length < AutoCompleteMinLength)
            return;

        //The GetMatches method can be whatever you need to filter
        //table rows or some other data source based on the typed text.
        var matches = GetMatches(comboBox.Text.ToUpper());

        if (matches.Count() > 0) {
            //The inside of this if block has been changed to allow
            //users to continue typing after the auto-complete results
            //are found.

            comboBox.Select(txt.Length, 0);
            return;
        }
        else {
            comboBox.DroppedDown = false;
            comboBox.SelectionStart = txt.Length;
        }
    }

How to convert an NSString into an NSNumber

I think NSDecimalNumber will do it:

Example:

NSNumber *theNumber = [NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:[stringVariable text]]];

NSDecimalNumber is a subclass of NSNumber, so implicit casting allowed.

Parse JSON from HttpURLConnection object

In addition, if you wish to parse your object in case of http error (400-5** codes), You can use the following code: (just replace 'getInputStream' with 'getErrorStream':

    BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(
            new InputStreamReader(conn.getErrorStream()));
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
    String line;
    while ((line = rd.readLine()) != null) {
        sb.append(line);
    }
    rd.close();
    return sb.toString();

How to trigger a build only if changes happen on particular set of files

I answered this question in another post:

How to get list of changed files since last build in Jenkins/Hudson

#!/bin/bash

set -e

job_name="whatever"
JOB_URL="http://myserver:8080/job/${job_name}/"
FILTER_PATH="path/to/folder/to/monitor"

python_func="import json, sys
obj = json.loads(sys.stdin.read())
ch_list = obj['changeSet']['items']
_list = [ j['affectedPaths'] for j in ch_list ]
for outer in _list:
  for inner in outer:
    print inner
"

_affected_files=`curl --silent ${JOB_URL}${BUILD_NUMBER}'/api/json' | python -c "$python_func"`

if [ -z "`echo \"$_affected_files\" | grep \"${FILTER_PATH}\"`" ]; then
  echo "[INFO] no changes detected in ${FILTER_PATH}"
  exit 0
else
  echo "[INFO] changed files detected: "
  for a_file in `echo "$_affected_files" | grep "${FILTER_PATH}"`; do
    echo "    $a_file"
  done;
fi;

You can add the check directly to the top of the job's exec shell, and it will exit 0 if no changes are detected... Hence, you can always poll the top level for check-in's to trigger a build.

Why is "using namespace std;" considered bad practice?

I agree with everything Greg wrote, but I'd like to add: It can even get worse than Greg said!

Library Foo 2.0 could introduce a function, Quux(), that is an unambiguously better match for some of your calls to Quux() than the bar::Quux() your code called for years. Then your code still compiles, but it silently calls the wrong function and does god-knows-what. That's about as bad as things can get.

Keep in mind that the std namespace has tons of identifiers, many of which are very common ones (think list, sort, string, iterator, etc.) which are very likely to appear in other code, too.

If you consider this unlikely: There was a question asked here on Stack Overflow where pretty much exactly this happened (wrong function called due to omitted std:: prefix) about half a year after I gave this answer. Here is another, more recent example of such a question. So this is a real problem.

Here's one more data point: Many, many years ago, I also used to find it annoying having to prefix everything from the standard library with std::. Then I worked in a project where it was decided at the start that both using directives and declarations are banned except for function scopes. Guess what? It took most of us very few weeks to get used to writing the prefix, and after a few more weeks most of us even agreed that it actually made the code more readable. There's a reason for that: Whether you like shorter or longer prose is subjective, but the prefixes objectively add clarity to the code. Not only the compiler, but you, too, find it easier to see which identifier is referred to.

In a decade, that project grew to have several million lines of code. Since these discussions come up again and again, I once was curious how often the (allowed) function-scope using actually was used in the project. I grep'd the sources for it and only found one or two dozen places where it was used. To me this indicates that, once tried, developers don't find std:: painful enough to employ using directives even once every 100 kLoC even where it was allowed to be used.

Bottom line: Explicitly prefixing everything doesn't do any harm, takes very little getting used to, and has objective advantages. In particular, it makes the code easier to interpret by the compiler and by human readers — and that should probably be the main goal when writing code.

Initializing C# auto-properties

In the default constructor (and any non-default ones if you have any too of course):

public foo() {
    Bar = "bar";
}

This is no less performant that your original code I believe, since this is what happens behind the scenes anyway.

Converting RGB to grayscale/intensity

What is the source of these values?

The "source" of the coefficients posted are the NTSC specifications which can be seen in Rec601 and Characteristics of Television.

The "ultimate source" are the CIE circa 1931 experiments on human color perception. The spectral response of human vision is not uniform. Experiments led to weighting of tristimulus values based on perception. Our L, M, and S cones1 are sensitive to the light wavelengths we identify as "Red", "Green", and "Blue" (respectively), which is where the tristimulus primary colors are derived.2

The linear light3 spectral weightings for sRGB (and Rec709) are:

Rlin * 0.2126 + Glin * 0.7152 + Blin * 0.0722 = Y

These are specific to the sRGB and Rec709 colorspaces, which are intended to represent computer monitors (sRGB) or HDTV monitors (Rec709), and are detailed in the ITU documents for Rec709 and also BT.2380-2 (10/2018)

FOOTNOTES (1) Cones are the color detecting cells of the eye's retina.
(2) However, the chosen tristimulus wavelengths are NOT at the "peak" of each cone type - instead tristimulus values are chosen such that they stimulate on particular cone type substantially more than another, i.e. separation of stimulus.
(3) You need to linearize your sRGB values before applying the coefficients. I discuss this in another answer here.

Reading a column from CSV file using JAVA

If you are using Java 7+, you may want to use NIO.2, e.g.:

Code:

public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {

    File file = new File("test.csv");

    List<String> lines = Files.readAllLines(file.toPath(),
            StandardCharsets.UTF_8);

    for (String line : lines) {
        String[] array = line.split(",", -1);
        System.out.println(array[0]);
    }

}

Output:

a
1RW
1RW
1RW
1RW
1RW
1RW
1R1W
1R1W
1R1W

Django ManyToMany filter()

Just restating what Tomasz said.

There are many examples of FOO__in=... style filters in the many-to-many and many-to-one tests. Here is syntax for your specific problem:

users_in_1zone = User.objects.filter(zones__id=<id1>)
# same thing but using in
users_in_1zone = User.objects.filter(zones__in=[<id1>])

# filtering on a few zones, by id
users_in_zones = User.objects.filter(zones__in=[<id1>, <id2>, <id3>])
# and by zone object (object gets converted to pk under the covers)
users_in_zones = User.objects.filter(zones__in=[zone1, zone2, zone3])

The double underscore (__) syntax is used all over the place when working with querysets.

C++ - how to find the length of an integer

Best way is to find using log, it works always

How can I avoid running ActiveRecord callbacks?

The most up-voted answer might seem confusing in some cases.

You can use just a simple if check if you would like to skip a callback, like this:

after_save :set_title, if: -> { !new_record? && self.name_changed? }

How should I edit an Entity Framework connection string?

Open .edmx file any text editor change the Schema="your required schema" and also open the app.config/web.config, change the user id and password from the connection string. you are done.

How can I hide select options with JavaScript? (Cross browser)

Here's an option that:

  • Works in all browsers
  • Preserves current selection when filtering
  • Preserves order of items when removing / restoring
  • No dirty hacks / invalid HTML

`

$('select').each(function(){
    var $select = $(this);
    $select.data('options', $select.find('option'));
});

function filter($select, search) {
    var $prev = null;
    var $options = $select.data('options');
    search = search.trim().toLowerCase();
    $options.each(function(){
        var $option = $(this);
        var optionText = $option.text();
        if(search == "" || optionText.indexOf(search) >= 0) {
            if ($option.parent().length) {
                    $prev = $option;
                return;
            }
            if (!$prev) $select.prepend($option);
            else $prev.after($option);
            $prev = $option;
        }
        else {
              $option.remove();
        }
    });
}

How to do a PUT request with curl?

An example PUT following Martin C. Martin's comment:

curl -T filename.txt http://www.example.com/dir/

With -T (same as --upload-file) curl will use PUT for HTTP.

Convert char array to string use C

You can use strcpy but remember to end the array with '\0'

char array[20]; char string[100];

array[0]='1'; array[1]='7'; array[2]='8'; array[3]='.'; array[4]='9'; array[5]='\0';
strcpy(string, array);
printf("%s\n", string);

jquery, find next element by class

You cannot use next() in this scenario, if you look at the documentation it says:
Next() Get the immediately following sibling of each element in the set of matched elements. If a selector is provided, it retrieves the next sibling that matches the selector.

so if the second DIV was in the same TD then you could code:

// Won't work in your case
$(obj).next().filter('.class');

But since it's not, I don't see a point to use next(). You can instead code:

$(obj).parents('table').find('.class')

Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value ... to data type int

I use the latest version of SSMS or sql server management studio. I have a SQL script (in query editor) which has about 100 lines of code. This is error I got in the query:

Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'abcd' to data type int.

Solution - I had seen this kind of error before when I forgot to enclose a number (in varchar column) in single quotes.

As an aside, the error message is misleading. The actual error on line number 70 in the query editor and not line 2 as the error says!

How to Count Duplicates in List with LINQ

Slightly shorter version using methods chain:

var list = new List<string> {"a", "b", "a", "c", "a", "b"};
var q = list.GroupBy(x => x)
            .Select(g => new {Value = g.Key, Count = g.Count()})
            .OrderByDescending(x=>x.Count);

foreach (var x in q)
{
    Console.WriteLine("Value: " + x.Value + " Count: " + x.Count);
}

Swift: Determine iOS Screen size

In Swift 3.0

let screenSize = UIScreen.main.bounds
let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

In older swift: Do something like this:

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds

then you can access the width and height like this:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

if you want 75% of your screen's width you can go:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width * 0.75

Swift 4.0

// Screen width.
public var screenWidth: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.width
}

// Screen height.
public var screenHeight: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.height
}

In Swift 5.0

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.main.bounds

SQLite Query in Android to count rows

If you want to get the count of records then you have to apply the group by on some field or apply the below query.

Like

db.rawQuery("select count(field) as count_record from tablename where field =" + condition, null);
