CSS Font "Helvetica Neue"

This font is not standard on all devices. It is installed by default on some Macs, but rarely on PCs and mobile devices.

To use this font on all devices, use a @font-face declaration in your CSS to link to it on your domain if you wish to use it.

@font-face { font-family: Delicious; src: url('Delicious-Roman.otf'); }
@font-face { font-family: Delicious; font-weight: bold; src: url('Delicious-Bold.otf'); }

How do you get the current page number of a ViewPager for Android?

in the latest packages you can also use

vp.getCurrentItem()

or

vp is the viewPager ,

pageListener = new PageListener();
vp.setOnPageChangeListener(pageListener);

you have to put a page change listener for your viewPager. There is no method on viewPager to get the current page.

private int currentPage;

    private static class PageListener extends SimpleOnPageChangeListener{
            public void onPageSelected(int position) {
                Log.i(TAG, "page selected " + position);
                   currentPage = position;
        }
    }

Get the last non-empty cell in a column in Google Sheets

To find the last non-empty cell you can use INDEX and MATCH functions like this:

=DAYS360(A2; INDEX(A:A; MATCH(99^99;A:A; 1)))

I think this is a little bit faster and easier.

Generating Unique Random Numbers in Java

I have come here from another question, which has been duplicate of this question (Generating unique random number in java)

  1. Store 1 to 100 numbers in an Array.

  2. Generate random number between 1 to 100 as position and return array[position-1] to get the value

  3. Once you use a number in array, mark the value as -1 ( No need to maintain another array to check if this number is already used)

  4. If value in array is -1, get the random number again to fetch new location in array.

what is the size of an enum type data in C++?

The size is four bytes because the enum is stored as an int. With only 12 values, you really only need 4 bits, but 32 bit machines process 32 bit quantities more efficiently than smaller quantities.

0 0 0 0  January
0 0 0 1  February
0 0 1 0  March
0 0 1 1  April
0 1 0 0  May
0 1 0 1  June
0 1 1 0  July
0 1 1 1  August
1 0 0 0  September
1 0 0 1  October
1 0 1 0  November
1 0 1 1  December
1 1 0 0  ** unused **
1 1 0 1  ** unused **
1 1 1 0  ** unused **
1 1 1 1  ** unused **

Without enums, you might be tempted to use raw integers to represent the months. That would work and be efficient, but it would make your code hard to read. With enums, you get efficient storage and readability.

MySQL: #1075 - Incorrect table definition; autoincrement vs another key?

You can make the id the primary key, and set member_id to NOT NULL UNIQUE. (Which you've done.) Columns that are NOT NULL UNIQUE can be the target of foreign key references, just like a primary key can. (I'm pretty sure that's true of all SQL platforms.)

At the conceptual level, there's no difference between PRIMARY KEY and NOT NULL UNIQUE. At the physical level, this is a MySQL issue; other SQL platforms will let you use a sequence without making it the primary key.

But if performance is really important, you should think twice about widening your table by four bytes per row for that tiny visual convenience. In addition, if you switch to INNODB in order to enforce foreign key constraints, MySQL will use your primary key in a clustered index. Since you're not using your primary key, I imagine that could hurt performance.

Loop until a specific user input

Your code won't work because you haven't assigned anything to n before you first use it. Try this:

def oracle():
    n = None
    while n != 'Correct':
        # etc...

A more readable approach is to move the test until later and use a break:

def oracle():
    guess = 50

    while True:
        print 'Current number = {0}'.format(guess)
        n = raw_input("lower, higher or stop?: ")
        if n == 'stop':
            break
        # etc...

Also input in Python 2.x reads a line of input and then evaluates it. You want to use raw_input.

Note: In Python 3.x, raw_input has been renamed to input and the old input method no longer exists.

How do I pass a unique_ptr argument to a constructor or a function?

Edit: This answer is wrong, even though, strictly speaking, the code works. I'm only leaving it here because the discussion under it is too useful. This other answer is the best answer given at the time I last edited this: How do I pass a unique_ptr argument to a constructor or a function?

The basic idea of ::std::move is that people who are passing you the unique_ptr should be using it to express the knowledge that they know the unique_ptr they're passing in will lose ownership.

This means you should be using an rvalue reference to a unique_ptr in your methods, not a unique_ptr itself. This won't work anyway because passing in a plain old unique_ptr would require making a copy, and that's explicitly forbidden in the interface for unique_ptr. Interestingly enough, using a named rvalue reference turns it back into an lvalue again, so you need to use ::std::move inside your methods as well.

This means your two methods should look like this:

Base(Base::UPtr &&n) : next(::std::move(n)) {} // Spaces for readability

void setNext(Base::UPtr &&n) { next = ::std::move(n); }

Then people using the methods would do this:

Base::UPtr objptr{ new Base; }
Base::UPtr objptr2{ new Base; }
Base fred(::std::move(objptr)); // objptr now loses ownership
fred.setNext(::std::move(objptr2)); // objptr2 now loses ownership

As you see, the ::std::move expresses that the pointer is going to lose ownership at the point where it's most relevant and helpful to know. If this happened invisibly, it would be very confusing for people using your class to have objptr suddenly lose ownership for no readily apparent reason.

Split string on whitespace in Python

The str.split() method without an argument splits on whitespace:

    Map map = new HashMap();
    map.put("key_1","one");
    map.put("key_2","two");

How to set ObjectId as a data type in mongoose

I was looking for a different answer for the question title, so maybe other people will be too.

To set type as an ObjectId (so you may reference author as the author of book, for example), you may do like:

const Book = mongoose.model('Book', {
  author: {
    type: mongoose.Schema.Types.ObjectId, // here you set the author ID
                                          // from the Author colection,
                                          // so you can reference it
    required: true
  },
  title: {
    type: String,
    required: true
  }
});

Deprecated meaning?

Deprecated means they don't recommend using it, and that it isn't undergoing further development. But it should not work differently than it did in a previous version unless documentation explicitly states that.

  1. Yes, otherwise it wouldn't be called "deprecated"

  2. Unless stated otherwise in docs, it should be the same as before

  3. No, but if there were problems in v1 they aren't about to fix them

Simple way to query connected USB devices info in Python?

I can think of a quick code like this.

Since all USB ports can be accessed via /dev/bus/usb/< bus >/< device >

For the ID generated, even if you unplug the device and reattach it [ could be some other port ]. It will be the same.

import re
import subprocess
device_re = re.compile("Bus\s+(?P<bus>\d+)\s+Device\s+(?P<device>\d+).+ID\s(?P<id>\w+:\w+)\s(?P<tag>.+)$", re.I)
df = subprocess.check_output("lsusb")
devices = []
for i in df.split('\n'):
    if i:
        info = device_re.match(i)
        if info:
            dinfo = info.groupdict()
            dinfo['device'] = '/dev/bus/usb/%s/%s' % (dinfo.pop('bus'), dinfo.pop('device'))
            devices.append(dinfo)
print devices

Sample output here will be:

[
{'device': '/dev/bus/usb/001/009', 'tag': 'Apple, Inc. Optical USB Mouse [Mitsumi]', 'id': '05ac:0304'},
{'device': '/dev/bus/usb/001/001', 'tag': 'Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub', 'id': '1d6b:0002'},
{'device': '/dev/bus/usb/001/002', 'tag': 'Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub', 'id': '8087:0020'},
{'device': '/dev/bus/usb/001/004', 'tag': 'Microdia ', 'id': '0c45:641d'}
]

Code Updated for Python 3

import re

df = subprocess.check_output("lsusb")
devices = []
for i in df.split(b'\n'):
    if i:
        info = device_re.match(i)
        if info:
            dinfo = info.groupdict()
            dinfo['device'] = '/dev/bus/usb/%s/%s' % (dinfo.pop('bus'), dinfo.pop('device'))
            devices.append(dinfo)

How to sort mongodb with pymongo

Why python uses list of tuples instead dict?

In python, you cannot guarantee that the dictionary will be interpreted in the order you declared.

So, in mongo shell you could do .sort({'field1':1,'field2':1}) and the interpreter would sort field1 at first level and field 2 at second level.

If this syntax was used in python, there is a chance of sorting by field2 at first level. With tuple, there is no such risk.

.sort([("field1",pymongo.ASCENDING), ("field2",pymongo.DESCENDING)])

Java using enum with switch statement

Short associative function example:

public String getIcon(TipoNotificacao tipo)
{
    switch (tipo){
        case Comentou : return "fa fa-comments";
        case ConviteEnviou : return "icon-envelope";
        case ConviteAceitou : return "fa fa-bolt";
        default: return "";
    }
}

Like @Dhanushka said, omit the qualifier inside "switch" is the key.

How to connect to Oracle 11g database remotely

Its quite easy on computer a you don't need to do anything just make sure both system are on same network if its not internet access(for this you need static ip). Okay now on computer b go to start menu find configuration under oracle folder click Net Configuration Assistant under that folder when window pop up click Local net configuration option it must be third option.

Now click add and click next in next screen it will ask service name here you need to add oracle global database name of computer A(Normally I use oracle86 for my installation) now click next next screen choose protocol normally its tcp click next in host name enter computer A's name you can found that in my computer properties. Click next don't change port untill you have changed that in Computer A click next and choose test connection now here you can check your connection working or not if the error is username and password not correct then click login credential button and fill correct username and password. If its saying unable to reach computer ot target not found than you must add exception in firewall for 1521 port or just disable firewall on computer A.

How to call function of one php file from another php file and pass parameters to it?

you can write the function in a separate file (say common-functions.php) and include it wherever needed.

function getEmployeeFullName($employeeId) {
// Write code to return full name based on $employeeId
}

You can include common-functions.php in another file as below.

include('common-functions.php');
echo 'Name of first employee is ' . getEmployeeFullName(1);

You can include any number of files to another file. But including comes with a little performance cost. Therefore include only the files which are really required.

How to avoid java.util.ConcurrentModificationException when iterating through and removing elements from an ArrayList

An alternative Java 8 solution using stream:

        theList = theList.stream()
            .filter(element -> !shouldBeRemoved(element))
            .collect(Collectors.toList());

In Java 7 you can use Guava instead:

        theList = FluentIterable.from(theList)
            .filter(new Predicate<String>() {
                @Override
                public boolean apply(String element) {
                    return !shouldBeRemoved(element);
                }
            })
            .toImmutableList();

Note, that the Guava example results in an immutable list which may or may not be what you want.

json and empty array

null is a legal value (and reserved word) in JSON, but some environments do not have a "NULL" object (as opposed to a NULL value) and hence cannot accurately represent the JSON null. So they will sometimes represent it as an empty array.

Whether null is a legal value in that particular element of that particular API is entirely up to the API designer.

XAMPP PORT 80 is Busy / EasyPHP error in Apache configuration file:

Things to be done to free port 80:

  2. check services.msc if web deployment agent service is running
  3. check if IIS is running, stop it.

Once you start apache, you can sign into skype.

move_uploaded_file gives "failed to open stream: Permission denied" error

This is because images and tmp_file_upload are only writable by root user. For upload to work we need to make the owner of those folders same as httpd process owner OR make them globally writable (bad practice).

  1. Check apache process owner: $ps aux | grep httpd. The first column will be the owner typically it will be nobody
  2. Change the owner of images and tmp_file_upload to be become nobody or whatever the owner you found in step 1.

    $sudo chown nobody /var/www/html/mysite/images/

    $sudo chown nobody /var/www/html/mysite/tmp_file_upload/

  3. Chmod images and tmp_file_upload now to be writable by the owner, if needed [Seems you already have this in place]. Mentioned in @Dmitry Teplyakov answer.

    $ sudo chmod -R 0755 /var/www/html/mysite/images/

    $ sudo chmod -R 0755 /var/www/html/mysite/tmp_file_upload/

  4. For more details why this behavior happend, check the manual http://php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.upload-tmp-dir , note that it also talking about open_basedir directive.

PHP Multidimensional Array Searching (Find key by specific value)

For the next visitor coming along: use the recursive array walk; it visits every "leaf" in the multidimensional array. Here's for inspiration:

function getMDArrayValueByKey($a, $k) {
    $r = [];
    array_walk_recursive ($a,
                          function ($item, $key) use ($k, &$r) {if ($key == $k) $r[] = $item;}
                          );
    return $r;
}

Grep characters before and after match?

With gawk , you can use match function:

    x="hey there how are you"
    echo "$x" |awk --re-interval '{match($0,/(.{4})how(.{4})/,a);print a[1],a[2]}'
    ere   are

If you are ok with perl, more flexible solution : Following will print three characters before the pattern followed by actual pattern and then 5 character after the pattern.

echo hey there how are you |perl -lne 'print "$1$2$3" if /(.{3})(there)(.{5})/'
ey there how

This can also be applied to words instead of just characters.Following will print one word before the actual matching string.

echo hey there how are you |perl -lne 'print $1 if /(\w+) there/'
hey

Following will print one word after the pattern:

echo hey there how are you |perl -lne 'print $2 if /(\w+) there (\w+)/'
how

Following will print one word before the pattern , then the actual word and then one word after the pattern:

echo hey there how are you |perl -lne 'print "$1$2$3" if /(\w+)( there )(\w+)/'
hey there how

cannot make a static reference to the non-static field

The static calls to withdraw and deposit are your problem. account.withdraw(balance, 2500); This line can't work , since "balance" is an instance variable of Account. The code doesn't make much sense anyway, wouldn't withdraw/deposit be encapsulated inside the Account object itself? so the withdraw should be more like

public void withdraw(double withdrawAmount)
{
    balance -= withdrawAmount;
}

Of course depending on your problem you could do additional validation here to prevent negative balance etc.

Auto-scaling input[type=text] to width of value?

Using canvas we could calculate the elements width:

function getTextWidth(text, fontSize, fontName) {
  let canvas = document.createElement('canvas');
  let context = canvas.getContext('2d');
  context.font = fontSize + fontName;
  return context.measureText(text).width;
}

and use it on the chosen event:

function onChange(e) {
  let width = getTextWidth(this.value, $(this).css('font-size'),
  $(this).css('font-family'));
  $(this.input).css('width', width);
}

Get the POST request body from HttpServletRequest

If the request body is empty, then it simply means that it's already been consumed beforehand. For example, by a request.getParameter(), getParameterValues() or getParameterMap() call. Just remove the lines doing those calls from your code.

How to make a dropdown readonly using jquery?

Try to make empty string when "keypress up"

The Html is:

<input id="cf_1268591" style="width:60px;line-height:16px;border:1px solid #ccc">

The Jquery is:

$("#cf_1268591").combobox({
  url:"your url",
  valueField:"id",
  textField:"text",
  panelWidth: "350",
  panelHeight: "200",
});

// make after keyup with empty string

var tb = $("#cf_1268591").combobox("textbox");
  tb.bind("keyup",function(e){
  this.value = "";
});

How to return value from Action()?

You can use Func<T, TResult> generic delegate. (See MSDN)

Func<MyType, ReturnType> func = (db) => { return new MyType(); }

Also there are useful generic delegates which considers a return value:

  • Converter<TInput, TOutput> (MSDN)
  • Predicate<TInput> - always return bool (MSDN)

Method:

public MyType SimpleUsing.DoUsing<MyType>(Func<TInput, MyType> myTypeFactory)

Generic delegate:

Func<InputArgumentType, MyType> createInstance = db => return new MyType();

Execute:

MyType myTypeInstance = SimpleUsing.DoUsing(
                            createInstance(new InputArgumentType()));

OR explicitly:

MyType myTypeInstance = SimpleUsing.DoUsing(db => return new MyType());

Java count occurrence of each item in an array

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Arrays;
import java.util.HashMap;
import java.util.List;

public class MultiString {

    public HashMap<String, Integer> countIntem( String[] array ) {

        Arrays.sort(array);
        HashMap<String, Integer> map = new HashMap<String, Integer>();
        Integer count = 0;
        String first = array[0];
        for( int counter = 0; counter < array.length; counter++ ) {
            if(first.hashCode() == array[counter].hashCode()) {
                count = count + 1;
            } else {
                map.put(first, count);
                count = 1;
            }
            first = array[counter];
            map.put(first, count);
        }

        return map;
    }

    /**
     * @param args
     */
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        String[] array = { "name1", "name1", "name2", "name2", "name2",
                "name3", "name1", "name1", "name2", "name2", "name2", "name3" };

        HashMap<String, Integer> countMap = new MultiString().countIntem(array);
        System.out.println(countMap);
    }
}

Gives you O(n) complexity.

Remove last characters from a string in C#. An elegant way?

Use:

public static class StringExtensions
{
    /// <summary>
    /// Cut End. "12".SubstringFromEnd(1) -> "1"
    /// </summary>
    public static string SubstringFromEnd(this string value, int startindex)
    {
        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value)) return value;
        return value.Substring(0, value.Length - startindex);
    }
}

I prefer an extension method here for two reasons:

  1. I can chain it with Substring. Example: f1.Substring(directorypathLength).SubstringFromEnd(1)
  2. Speed.

Horizontal swipe slider with jQuery and touch devices support?

I would also recommend http://cubiq.org/iscroll-4

BUT if you're not digging on that try this plugin

http://www.zackgrossbart.com/hackito/touchslider/

it works very well and defaults to a horizontal slide bar on desktop -- it's not as elegant on desktop as iscroll-4 is, but it works very well on touch devices

GOOD LUCK!

How to access parameters in a RESTful POST method

Your @POST method should be accepting a JSON object instead of a string. Jersey uses JAXB to support marshaling and unmarshaling JSON objects (see the jersey docs for details). Create a class like:

@XmlRootElement
public class MyJaxBean {
    @XmlElement public String param1;
    @XmlElement public String param2;
}

Then your @POST method would look like the following:

@POST @Consumes("application/json")
@Path("/create")
public void create(final MyJaxBean input) {
    System.out.println("param1 = " + input.param1);
    System.out.println("param2 = " + input.param2);
}

This method expects to receive JSON object as the body of the HTTP POST. JAX-RS passes the content body of the HTTP message as an unannotated parameter -- input in this case. The actual message would look something like:

POST /create HTTP/1.1
Content-Type: application/json
Content-Length: 35
Host: www.example.com

{"param1":"hello","param2":"world"}

Using JSON in this way is quite common for obvious reasons. However, if you are generating or consuming it in something other than JavaScript, then you do have to be careful to properly escape the data. In JAX-RS, you would use a MessageBodyReader and MessageBodyWriter to implement this. I believe that Jersey already has implementations for the required types (e.g., Java primitives and JAXB wrapped classes) as well as for JSON. JAX-RS supports a number of other methods for passing data. These don't require the creation of a new class since the data is passed using simple argument passing.

HTML <FORM>

The parameters would be annotated using @FormParam:

@POST
@Path("/create")
public void create(@FormParam("param1") String param1,
                   @FormParam("param2") String param2) {
    ...
}

The browser will encode the form using "application/x-www-form-urlencoded". The JAX-RS runtime will take care of decoding the body and passing it to the method. Here's what you should see on the wire:

POST /create HTTP/1.1
Host: www.example.com
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=UTF-8
Content-Length: 25

param1=hello&param2=world

The content is URL encoded in this case.

If you do not know the names of the FormParam's you can do the following:

@POST @Consumes("application/x-www-form-urlencoded")
@Path("/create")
public void create(final MultivaluedMap<String, String> formParams) {
    ...
}

HTTP Headers

You can using the @HeaderParam annotation if you want to pass parameters via HTTP headers:

@POST
@Path("/create")
public void create(@HeaderParam("param1") String param1,
                   @HeaderParam("param2") String param2) {
    ...
}

Here's what the HTTP message would look like. Note that this POST does not have a body.

POST /create HTTP/1.1
Content-Length: 0
Host: www.example.com
param1: hello
param2: world

I wouldn't use this method for generalized parameter passing. It is really handy if you need to access the value of a particular HTTP header though.

HTTP Query Parameters

This method is primarily used with HTTP GETs but it is equally applicable to POSTs. It uses the @QueryParam annotation.

@POST
@Path("/create")
public void create(@QueryParam("param1") String param1,
                   @QueryParam("param2") String param2) {
    ...
}

Like the previous technique, passing parameters via the query string does not require a message body. Here's the HTTP message:

POST /create?param1=hello&param2=world HTTP/1.1
Content-Length: 0
Host: www.example.com

You do have to be particularly careful to properly encode query parameters on the client side. Using query parameters can be problematic due to URL length restrictions enforced by some proxies as well as problems associated with encoding them.

HTTP Path Parameters

Path parameters are similar to query parameters except that they are embedded in the HTTP resource path. This method seems to be in favor today. There are impacts with respect to HTTP caching since the path is what really defines the HTTP resource. The code looks a little different than the others since the @Path annotation is modified and it uses @PathParam:

@POST
@Path("/create/{param1}/{param2}")
public void create(@PathParam("param1") String param1,
                   @PathParam("param2") String param2) {
    ...
}

The message is similar to the query parameter version except that the names of the parameters are not included anywhere in the message.

POST /create/hello/world HTTP/1.1
Content-Length: 0
Host: www.example.com

This method shares the same encoding woes that the query parameter version. Path segments are encoded differently so you do have to be careful there as well.

As you can see, there are pros and cons to each method. The choice is usually decided by your clients. If you are serving FORM-based HTML pages, then use @FormParam. If your clients are JavaScript+HTML5-based, then you will probably want to use JAXB-based serialization and JSON objects. The MessageBodyReader/Writer implementations should take care of the necessary escaping for you so that is one fewer thing that can go wrong. If your client is Java based but does not have a good XML processor (e.g., Android), then I would probably use FORM encoding since a content body is easier to generate and encode properly than URLs are. Hopefully this mini-wiki entry sheds some light on the various methods that JAX-RS supports.

Note: in the interest of full disclosure, I haven't actually used this feature of Jersey yet. We were tinkering with it since we have a number of JAXB+JAX-RS applications deployed and are moving into the mobile client space. JSON is a much better fit that XML on HTML5 or jQuery-based solutions.

How to set specific window (frame) size in java swing?

Most layout managers work best with a component's preferredSize, and most GUI's are best off allowing the components they contain to set their own preferredSizes based on their content or properties. To use these layout managers to their best advantage, do call pack() on your top level containers such as your JFrames before making them visible as this will tell these managers to do their actions -- to layout their components.

Often when I've needed to play a more direct role in setting the size of one of my components, I'll override getPreferredSize and have it return a Dimension that is larger than the super.preferredSize (or if not then it returns the super's value).

For example, here's a small drag-a-rectangle app that I created for another question on this site:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   private static final int RECT_W = 90;
   private static final int RECT_H = 70;
   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;
   private static final Color DRAW_RECT_COLOR = Color.black;
   private static final Color DRAG_RECT_COLOR = new Color(180, 200, 255);
   private Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(25, 25, RECT_W, RECT_H);
   private boolean dragging = false;
   private int deltaX = 0;
   private int deltaY = 0;

   public MoveRect() {
      MyMouseAdapter myMouseAdapter = new MyMouseAdapter();
      addMouseListener(myMouseAdapter);
      addMouseMotionListener(myMouseAdapter);
   }

   @Override
   protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
      super.paintComponent(g);
      if (rect != null) {
         Color c = dragging ? DRAG_RECT_COLOR : DRAW_RECT_COLOR;
         g.setColor(c);
         Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
         g2.draw(rect);
      }
   }

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

   private class MyMouseAdapter extends MouseAdapter {

      @Override
      public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) {
         Point mousePoint = e.getPoint();
         if (rect.contains(mousePoint)) {
            dragging = true;
            deltaX = rect.x - mousePoint.x;
            deltaY = rect.y - mousePoint.y;
         }
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) {
         dragging = false;
         repaint();
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e) {
         Point p2 = e.getPoint();
         if (dragging) {
            int x = p2.x + deltaX;
            int y = p2.y + deltaY;
            rect = new Rectangle(x, y, RECT_W, RECT_H);
            MoveRect.this.repaint();
         }
      }
   }

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

Note that my main class is a JPanel, and that I override JPanel's getPreferredSize:

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   //.... deleted constants

   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;

   //.... deleted fields and constants

   //... deleted methods and constructors

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

Also note that when I display my GUI, I place it into a JFrame, call pack(); on the JFrame, set its position, and then call setVisible(true); on my JFrame:

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

Trying to SSH into an Amazon Ec2 instance - permission error

The problem is having wrong mod on the file.

Easily solved by executing -

chmod 400 mykey.pem

Taken from Amazon's instructions -

Your key file must not be publicly viewable for SSH to work. Use this command if needed: chmod 400 mykey.pem

400 protects it by making it read only and only for the owner.

Can I run CUDA on Intel's integrated graphics processor?

If you're interested in learning a language which supports massive parallelism better go for OpenCL since you don't have an NVIDIA GPU. You can run OpenCL on Intel CPUs, but at best you can learn to program SIMDs. Optimization on CPU and GPU are different. I really don't think you can use Intel card for GPGPU.

What is the meaning of # in URL and how can I use that?

This is known as the "fragment identifier" and is typically used to identify a portion of an HTML document that sits within a fully qualified URL:

How to search for a string in an arraylist

Nowadays, Java 8 allows for a one-line functional solution that is cleaner, faster, and a whole lot simpler than the accepted solution:

List<String> list = new ArrayList<>();
list.add("behold");
list.add("bend");
list.add("bet");
list.add("bear");
list.add("beat");
list.add("become");
list.add("begin");

List<String> matches = list.stream().filter(it -> it.contains("bea")).collect(Collectors.toList());

System.out.println(matches); // [bear, beat]

And even easier in Kotlin:

val matches = list.filter { it.contains("bea") }

How to call a function in shell Scripting?

You don't specify which shell (there are many), so I am assuming Bourne Shell, that is I think your script starts with:

#!/bin/sh

Please remember to tag future questions with the shell type, as this will help the community answer your question.

You need to define your functions before you call them. Using ():

process_install()
{
    echo "Performing process_install() commands, using arguments [${*}]..."
}

process_exit()
{
    echo "Performing process_exit() commands, using arguments [${*}]..."
}

Then you can call your functions, just as if you were calling any command:

if [ "$choice" = "true" ]
then
    process_install foo bar
elif [ "$choice" = "false" ]
then
    process_exit baz qux

You may also wish to check for invalid choices at this juncture...

else
    echo "Invalid choice [${choice}]..."
fi

See it run with three different values of ${choice}.

Good luck!

Using(Scoop):

scoop install nodejs

Also you can download the Windows Installer directly from the nodejs.org web site

Update a submodule to the latest commit

Enter the submodule directory:

cd projB/projA

Pull the repo from you project A (will not update the git status of your parent, project B):

git pull origin master

Go back to the root directory & check update:

cd ..
git status

If the submodule updated before, it will show something like below:

# Not currently on any branch.
# Changed but not updated:
# (use "git add ..." to update what will be committed)
# (use "git checkout -- ..." to discard changes in working directory)
#
#       modified:   projB/projA (new commits)
#

Then, commit the update:

git add projB/projA
git commit -m "projA submodule updated"

UPDATE

As @paul pointed out, since git 1.8, we can use

git submodule update --remote --merge

to update the submodule to the latest remote commit. It'll be convenient in most cases.

Send JavaScript variable to PHP variable

As Jordan already said you have to post back the javascript variable to your server before the server can handle the value. To do this you can either program a javascript function that submits a form - or you can use ajax / jquery. jQuery.post

Maybe the most easiest approach for you is something like this

function myJavascriptFunction() {
  var javascriptVariable = "John";
  window.location.href = "myphpfile.php?name=" + javascriptVariable;
}

On your myphpfile.php you can use $_GET['name'] after your javascript was executed.

Get mouse wheel events in jQuery?

I got same problem recently where $(window).mousewheel was returning undefined

What I did was $(window).on('mousewheel', function() {});

Further to process it I am using:

function (event) {
    var direction = null,
        key;

    if (event.type === 'mousewheel') {
        if (yourFunctionForGetMouseWheelDirection(event) > 0) {
            direction = 'up';
        } else {
            direction = 'down';
        }
    }
}

Why am I not getting a java.util.ConcurrentModificationException in this example?

Check your code man....

In the main method you are trying to remove the 4th element which is not there and hence the error. In the remove() method you are trying to remove the 3rd element which is there and hence no error.

Jenkins, specifying JAVA_HOME

I was facing the same issue and for me downgrading the JAVA_HOME from jdk12 was not the plausible option like said in the answer. So I did a trial and error experiment and I got the Jenkins running without even downgrading the version of JAVA_HOME.

Steps:

  • open configuration $ sudo vi /etc/init.d/jenkins
  • Comment following line:
 #JAVA=`type -p java`
  • Introduced the line mentioned below. (Note: Insert the specific path of JDK in your machine.)
 JAVA=`type -p /usr/lib/jdk8/bin/java`
  • Reload systemd manager configuration: $ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
  • Start Jenkins service: $ sudo systemctl start jenkins

Find size of Git repository

I think this gives you the total list of all files in the repo history:

git rev-list --objects --all | git cat-file --batch-check="%(objectsize) %(rest)" | cut -d" " -f1 | paste -s -d + - | bc

You can replace --all with a treeish (HEAD, origin/master, etc.) to calculate the size of a branch.

how to calculate binary search complexity

Let's say the iteration in Binary Search terminates after k iterations. At each iteration, the array is divided by half. So let’s say the length of the array at any iteration is n At Iteration 1,

Length of array = n

At Iteration 2,

Length of array = n/2

At Iteration 3,

Length of array = (n/2)/2 = n/22

Therefore, after Iteration k,

Length of array = n/2k

Also, we know that after After k divisions, the length of the array becomes 1 Therefore

Length of array = n/2k = 1
=> n = 2k

Applying log function on both sides:

=> log2 (n) = log2 (2k)
=> log2 (n) = k log2 (2)
As (loga (a) = 1)

Therefore,

As (loga (a) = 1)
k = log2 (n)

Hence the time complexity of Binary Search is

log2 (n)

Prompt for user input in PowerShell

Using parameter binding is definitely the way to go here. Not only is it very quick to write (just add [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)] above your mandatory parameters), but it's also the only option that you won't hate yourself for later.

More below:

[Console]::ReadLine is explicitly forbidden by the FxCop rules for PowerShell. Why? Because it only works in PowerShell.exe, not PowerShell ISE, PowerGUI, etc.

Read-Host is, quite simply, bad form. Read-Host uncontrollably stops the script to prompt the user, which means that you can never have another script that includes the script that uses Read-Host.

You're trying to ask for parameters.

You should use the [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)] attribute, and correct typing, to ask for the parameters.

If you use this on a [SecureString], it will prompt for a password field. If you use this on a Credential type, ([Management.Automation.PSCredential]), the credentials dialog will pop up, if the parameter isn't there. A string will just become a plain old text box. If you add a HelpMessage to the parameter attribute (that is, [Parameter(Mandatory = $true, HelpMessage = 'New User Credentials')]) then it will become help text for the prompt.

How do I convert hh:mm:ss.000 to milliseconds in Excel?

Factorial using Recursion in Java

First you should understand how factorial works.

Lets take 4! as an example.

4! = 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 = 24

Let us simulate the code using the example above:

int fact(int n)
    {
        int result;
       if(n==0 || n==1)
         return 1;

       result = fact(n-1) * n;
       return result;
    }

In most programming language, we have what we call function stack. It is just like a deck of cards, where each card is placed above the other--and each card may be thought of as a function So, passing on method fact:

Stack level 1: fact(4) // n = 4 and is not equal to 1. So we call fact(n-1)*n

Stack level 2: fact(3)

Stack level 3: fact(2)

Stack level 4: fact(1) // now, n = 1. so we return 1 from this function.

returning values...

Stack level 3: 2 * fact(1) = 2 * 1 = 2

Stack level 2: 3 * fact(2) = 3 * 2 = 6

Stack level 1: 4 * fact(3) = 4 * 6 = 24

so we got 24.

Take note of these lines:

result = fact(n-1) * n;
           return result;

or simply:

return fact(n-1) * n;

This calls the function itself. Using 4 as an example,

In sequence according to function stacks..

return fact(3) * 4;
return fact(2) * 3 * 4
return fact(1) * 2 * 3 * 4

Substituting results...

return 1 * 2 * 3 * 4 = return 24

I hope you get the point.

How to resize datagridview control when form resizes

For me, anchoring works only if I set it to all four sides:

Anchoring: Top, Bottom, Left, Right

Setting anchoring just to Left, Bottom moves the whole object when the form is resized in bottom, left side. Setting all four sizes really resizes the object, when parent is resized.

Concatenating Files And Insert New Line In Between Files

You can do:

for f in *.txt; do (cat "${f}"; echo) >> finalfile.txt; done

Make sure the file finalfile.txt does not exist before you run the above command.

If you are allowed to use awk you can do:

awk 'FNR==1{print ""}1' *.txt > finalfile.txt

Two dimensional array in python

We can create multidimensional array dynamically as follows,

Create 2 variables to read x and y from standard input:

 print("Enter the value of x: ")
 x=int(input())

 print("Enter the value of y: ")
 y=int(input())

Create an array of list with initial values filled with 0 or anything using the following code

z=[[0 for row in range(0,x)] for col in range(0,y)]

creates number of rows and columns for your array data.

Read data from standard input:

for i in range(x):
         for j in range(y):
             z[i][j]=input()

Display the Result:

for i in range(x):
         for j in range(y):
             print(z[i][j],end=' ')
         print("\n")

or use another way to display above dynamically created array is,

for row in z:
     print(row)

Mercurial: how to amend the last commit?

Recent versions of Mercurial include the evolve extension which provides the hg amend command. This allows amending a commit without losing the pre-amend history in your version control.

hg amend [OPTION]... [FILE]...

aliases: refresh

combine a changeset with updates and replace it with a new one

Commits a new changeset incorporating both the changes to the given files
and all the changes from the current parent changeset into the repository.

See 'hg commit' for details about committing changes.

If you don't specify -m, the parent's message will be reused.

Behind the scenes, Mercurial first commits the update as a regular child
of the current parent. Then it creates a new commit on the parent's
parents with the updated contents. Then it changes the working copy parent
to this new combined changeset. Finally, the old changeset and its update
are hidden from 'hg log' (unless you use --hidden with log).

See https://www.mercurial-scm.org/doc/evolution/user-guide.html#example-3-amend-a-changeset-with-evolve for a complete description of the evolve extension.

Mocking a class: Mock() or patch()?

I've got a YouTube video on this.

Short answer: Use mock when you're passing in the thing that you want mocked, and patch if you're not. Of the two, mock is strongly preferred because it means you're writing code with proper dependency injection.

Silly example:

# Use a mock to test this.
my_custom_tweeter(twitter_api, sentence):
    sentence.replace('cks','x')   # We're cool and hip.
    twitter_api.send(sentence)

# Use a patch to mock out twitter_api. You have to patch the Twitter() module/class
# and have it return a mock. Much uglier, but sometimes necessary.
my_badly_written_tweeter(sentence):
    twitter_api = Twitter(user="XXX", password="YYY")
    sentence.replace('cks','x')
    twitter_api.send(sentence)

How to override equals method in Java

if age is int you should use == if it is Integer object then you can use equals(). You also need to implement hashcode method if you override equals. Details of the contract is available in the javadoc of Object and also at various pages in web.

What is the most efficient/quickest way to loop through rows in VBA (excel)?

If you are just looping through 10k rows in column A, then dump the row into a variant array and then loop through that.

You can then either add the elements to a new array (while adding rows when needed) and using Transpose() to put the array onto your range in one move, or you can use your iterator variable to track which row you are on and add rows that way.

Dim i As Long
Dim varray As Variant

varray = Range("A2:A" & Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row).Value

For i = 1 To UBound(varray, 1)
    ' do stuff to varray(i, 1)
Next

Here is an example of how you could add rows after evaluating each cell. This example just inserts a row after every row that has the word "foo" in column A. Not that the "+2" is added to the variable i during the insert since we are starting on A2. It would be +1 if we were starting our array with A1.

Sub test()

Dim varray As Variant
Dim i As Long

varray = Range("A2:A10").Value

'must step back or it'll be infinite loop
For i = UBound(varray, 1) To LBound(varray, 1) Step -1
    'do your logic and evaluation here
    If varray(i, 1) = "foo" Then
       'not how to offset the i variable
       Range("A" & i + 2).EntireRow.Insert
    End If
Next

End Sub

How to wait for a process to terminate to execute another process in batch file

This is an updated version of aphoria's Answer.

I Replaced PSLIST and PSEXEC with TASKKILL and TASKLIST`. As they seem to work better, I couldn't get PSLIST to run in Windows 7.

Also replaced Sleep with TIMEOUT.

This Was everything i needed to get the script running well, and all the additions was provided by the great guys who posted the comments.

Also if there is a delay before the .exe starts it might be worth inserting a Timeout before the :loop.

@ECHO OFF

TASKKILL NOTEPAD

START "" "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe"

:LOOP
tasklist | find /i "WORDPAD" >nul 2>&1
IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (
  GOTO CONTINUE
) ELSE (
  ECHO Wordpad is still running
  Timeout /T 5 /Nobreak
  GOTO LOOP
)

:CONTINUE
NOTEPAD

Change span text?

document.getElementById("serverTime").innerHTML = ...;

Take the content of a list and append it to another list

You can simply concatnate two lists, e.g:

list1 = [0, 1]
list2 = [2, 3]
list3 = list1 + list2

print(list3)
>> [0, 1, 2, 3]

Python: Maximum recursion depth exceeded

You can increment the stack depth allowed - with this, deeper recursive calls will be possible, like this:

import sys
sys.setrecursionlimit(10000) # 10000 is an example, try with different values

... But I'd advise you to first try to optimize your code, for instance, using iteration instead of recursion.

What's the console.log() of java?

Use the Android logging utility.

http://developer.android.com/reference/android/util/Log.html

Log has a bunch of static methods for accessing the different log levels. The common thread is that they always accept at least a tag and a log message.

Tags are a way of filtering output in your log messages. You can use them to wade through the thousands of log messages you'll see and find the ones you're specifically looking for.

You use the Log functions in Android by accessing the Log.x objects (where the x method is the log level). For example:

Log.d("MyTagGoesHere", "This is my log message at the debug level here");
Log.e("MyTagGoesHere", "This is my log message at the error level here");

I usually make it a point to make the tag my class name so I know where the log message was generated too. Saves a lot of time later on in the game.

You can see your log messages using the logcat tool for android:

adb logcat

Or by opening the eclipse Logcat view by going to the menu bar

Window->Show View->Other then select the Android menu and the LogCat view

rm: cannot remove: Permission denied

The code says everything:

max@serv$ chmod 777 .

Okay, it doesn't say everything.

In UNIX and Linux, the ability to remove a file is not determined by the access bits of that file. It is determined by the access bits of the directory which contains the file.

Think of it this way -- deleting a file doesn't modify that file. You aren't writing to the file, so why should "w" on the file matter? Deleting a file requires editing the directory that points to the file, so you need "w" on the that directory.

Simple function to sort an array of objects

How about this?

var people = [
{
    name: 'a75',
    item1: false,
    item2: false
},
{
    name: 'z32',
    item1: true,
    item2: false
},
{
    name: 'e77',
    item1: false,
    item2: false
}];

function sort_by_key(array, key)
{
 return array.sort(function(a, b)
 {
  var x = a[key]; var y = b[key];
  return ((x < y) ? -1 : ((x > y) ? 1 : 0));
 });
}

people = sort_by_key(people, 'name');

This allows you to specify the key by which you want to sort the array so that you are not limited to a hard-coded name sort. It will work to sort any array of objects that all share the property which is used as they key. I believe that is what you were looking for?

How to make exe files from a node.js app?

There are a lot of good answers here, but they're not all as straightforward as JXcore.

Once you have JXcore installed on windows, all you have to do is run:

jx package app.js "myAppName" -native

This will produce a .exe file that you can distribute and can be executed without any external dependencies whatsoever (you don't even need JXcore nor Node.js on the system).

Here's the documentation on that functionality: http://jxcore.com/packaging-code-protection/#cat-74

Edit 2018

That project is now dead but it is still hosted here: https://github.com/jxcore/jxcore-release (thanks @Elmue)

Adding minutes to date time in PHP

PHP's DateTime class has a useful modify method which takes in easy-to-understand text.

$dateTime = new DateTime('2011-11-17 05:05');
$dateTime->modify('+5 minutes');

You could also use string interpolation or concatenation to parameterize it:

$dateTime = new DateTime('2011-11-17 05:05');
$minutesToAdd = 5;
$dateTime->modify("+{$minutesToAdd} minutes");
