How to run SQL script in MySQL?

I had this error, and tried all the advice i could get to no avail.

Finally, the problem was that my folder had a space in the folder name which appearing as a forward-slash in the folder path, once i found and removed it, it worked fine.

Git push rejected after feature branch rebase

It may or may not be the case that there is only one developer on this branch, that is now (after the rebase) not inline with the origin/feature.

As such I would suggest to use the following sequence:

git rebase master
git checkout -b feature_branch_2
git push origin feature_branch_2

Yeah, new branch, this should solve this without a --force, which I think generally is a major git drawback.

How to run java application by .bat file

Sure, call the java executable.

Mine is C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe, so to run it I would do

Check if MySQL table exists or not

$query = mysqli_query('SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM information_schema.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME IN ("table1","table2","table3") AND TABLE_SCHEMA="yourschema"');
$tablesExists = array();
while( null!==($row=mysqli_fetch_row($query)) ){
    $tablesExists[] = $row[0];

How to find tag with particular text with Beautiful Soup?

This post got me to my answer even though the answer is missing from this post. I felt I should give back.

The challenge here is in the inconsistent behavior of BeautifulSoup.find when searching with and without text.

Note: If you have BeautifulSoup, you can test this locally via:

curl https://gist.githubusercontent.com/RichardBronosky/4060082/raw/test.py | python

Code: https://gist.github.com/4060082

# Taken from https://gist.github.com/4060082
from BeautifulSoup import BeautifulSoup
from urllib2 import urlopen
from pprint import pprint
import re

soup = BeautifulSoup(urlopen('https://gist.githubusercontent.com/RichardBronosky/4060082/raw/test.html').read())
# I'm going to assume that Peter knew that re.compile is meant to cache a computation result for a performance benefit. However, I'm going to do that explicitly here to be very clear.
pattern = re.compile('Fixed text')

# Peter's suggestion here returns a list of what appear to be strings
columns = soup.findAll('td', text=pattern, attrs={'class' : 'pos'})
# ...but it is actually a BeautifulSoup.NavigableString
print type(columns[0])
#>> <class 'BeautifulSoup.NavigableString'>

# you can reach the tag using one of the convenience attributes seen here
pprint(columns[0].__dict__)
#>> {'next': <br />,
#>>  'nextSibling': <br />,
#>>  'parent': <td class="pos">\n
#>>       "Fixed text:"\n
#>>       <br />\n
#>>       <strong>text I am looking for</strong>\n
#>>   </td>,
#>>  'previous': <td class="pos">\n
#>>       "Fixed text:"\n
#>>       <br />\n
#>>       <strong>text I am looking for</strong>\n
#>>   </td>,
#>>  'previousSibling': None}

# I feel that 'parent' is safer to use than 'previous' based on http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/bs4/doc/#method-names
# So, if you want to find the 'text' in the 'strong' element...
pprint([t.parent.find('strong').text for t in soup.findAll('td', text=pattern, attrs={'class' : 'pos'})])
#>> [u'text I am looking for']

# Here is what we have learned:
print soup.find('strong')
#>> <strong>some value</strong>
print soup.find('strong', text='some value')
#>> u'some value'
print soup.find('strong', text='some value').parent
#>> <strong>some value</strong>
print soup.find('strong', text='some value') == soup.find('strong')
#>> False
print soup.find('strong', text='some value') == soup.find('strong').text
#>> True
print soup.find('strong', text='some value').parent == soup.find('strong')
#>> True

Though it is most certainly too late to help the OP, I hope they will make this as the answer since it does satisfy all quandaries around finding by text.

function to return a string in java

In Java, a String is a reference to heap-allocated storage. Returning "ans" only returns the reference so there is no need for stack-allocated storage. In fact, there is no way in Java to allocate objects in stack storage.

I would change to this, though. You don't need "ans" at all.

return String.format("%d:%d", mins, secs);

Invalid default value for 'dateAdded'

CURRENT_TIMESTAMP is version specific and is now allowed for DATETIME columns as of version 5.6.

See MySQL docs.

VBScript How can I Format Date?

For anyone who might still need this in the future. My answer is very similar to qaweb, just a lot less intimidating. There seems to be no cool automatic simple function to formate date in VBS. So you'll have to do it manually. I took the different components of the date and concatenated them together.

Dim timeStamp
timeStamp = Month(Date)&"-"&Day(Date)&"-"&Year(Date)
run = msgbox(timeStamp)

Which will result in 11-22-2019 (depending on the current date)

Color picker utility (color pipette) in Ubuntu

You can install the package gcolor2 for this:

sudo apt-get install gcolor2

Returning from a void function

The only reason to have a return in a void function would be to exit early due to some conditional statement:

void foo(int y)
{
    if(y == 0) return;

    // do stuff with y
}

As unwind said: when the code ends, it ends. No need for an explicit return at the end.

Uncaught Typeerror: cannot read property 'innerHTML' of null

While you should ideally highlight the code which is causing an error and post that within your question, the error is because you are trying to get the inner HTML of the 'status' element:

var idPost=document.getElementById("status").innerHTML;

However the 'status' element does not exist within your HTML - either add the necessary element or change the ID you are trying to locate to point to a valid element.

Oracle client and networking components were not found

Simplest solution: The Oracle client is not installed on the remote server where the SSIS package is being executed.

Slightly less simple solution: The Oracle client is installed on the remote server, but in the wrong bit-count for the SSIS installation. For example, if the 64-bit Oracle client is installed but SSIS is being executed with the 32-bit dtexec executable, SSIS will not be able to find the Oracle client. The solution in this case would be to install the 32-bit Oracle client side-by-side with the 64-bit client.

PHP $_POST not working?

Have you check your php.ini ?
I broken my post method once that I set post_max_size the same with upload_max_filesize.

I think that post_max_size must less than upload_max_filesize.
Tested with PHP 5.3.3 in RHEL 6.0

FYI:
$_POST in php 5.3.5 does not work

PHP Session Destroy on Log Out Button

First give the link of logout.php page in that logout button.In that page make the code which is given below:

Here is the code:

<?php
 session_start();
 session_destroy();
?>

When the session has started, the session for the last/current user has been started, so don't need to declare the username. It will be deleted automatically by the session_destroy method.

Send array with Ajax to PHP script

Encode your data string into JSON.

dataString = ??? ; // array?
var jsonString = JSON.stringify(dataString);
   $.ajax({
        type: "POST",
        url: "script.php",
        data: {data : jsonString},
        cache: false,

        success: function(){
            alert("OK");
        }
    });

In your PHP

$data = json_decode(stripslashes($_POST['data']));

  // here i would like use foreach:

  foreach($data as $d){
     echo $d;
  }

Note

When you send data via POST, it needs to be as a keyvalue pair.

Thus

data: dataString

is wrong. Instead do:

data: {data:dataString}

How can I sort a dictionary by key?

For the way how question is formulated, the most answers here are answering it correctly.

However, considering how the things should be really done, taking to acount decades and decades of computer science, it comes to my total suprise that there is actually only one answer here (from GrantJ user) suggesting usage of sorted associative containers (sortedcontainers) which sorts elements based on key at their insertions point.

That will avoid massive performance impact per each calling of sort(...) (at minimum O(N*log(N)), where N is in number of elements (logically, this applies for all such solutions here which suggest to use the sort(...)). Take to account that for all such solutions, the sort(...) will need to be called every time when colletion needs to be accessed as sorted AFTER it was modified by adding/removing elements ...

How to perform case-insensitive sorting in JavaScript?

This may help if you have struggled to understand:

var array = ["sort", "Me", "alphabetically", "But", "Ignore", "case"];
console.log('Unordered array ---', array, '------------');

array.sort(function(a,b) {
    a = a.toLowerCase();
    b = b.toLowerCase();
    console.log("Compare '" + a + "' and '" + b + "'");

    if( a == b) {
        console.log('Comparison result, 0 --- leave as is ');
        return 0;
    }
    if( a > b) {
        console.log('Comparison result, 1 --- move '+b+' to before '+a+' ');
        return 1;
    }
    console.log('Comparison result, -1 --- move '+a+' to before '+b+' ');
    return -1;

});

console.log('Ordered array ---', array, '------------');

// return logic

/***
If compareFunction(a, b) is less than 0, sort a to a lower index than b, i.e. a comes first.
If compareFunction(a, b) returns 0, leave a and b unchanged with respect to each other, but sorted with respect to all different elements. Note: the ECMAscript standard does not guarantee this behaviour, and thus not all browsers (e.g. Mozilla versions dating back to at least 2003) respect this.
If compareFunction(a, b) is greater than 0, sort b to a lower index than a.

Troubleshooting BadImageFormatException

You can also get this exception when your application target .NET Framework 4.5 (for example) and you have the following app.config :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <startup>
    <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727" />
    <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" />
  </startup>
</configuration>

When trying to launch the debug of the application you will get the BadImageFormatException.

Removing the line declaring the v2.0 version will clear the error.

I had this issue recently when I tried to change the target platform from an old .NET 2.0 project to .NET 4.5.

Knockout validation

Have a look at Knockout-Validation which cleanly setups and uses what's described in the knockout documentation. Under: Live Example 1: Forcing input to be numeric

You can see it live in Fiddle

UPDATE: the fiddle has been updated to use the latest KO 2.0.3 and ko.validation 1.0.2 using the cloudfare CDN urls

To setup ko.validation:

ko.validation.rules.pattern.message = 'Invalid.';

ko.validation.configure({
    registerExtenders: true,
    messagesOnModified: true,
    insertMessages: true,
    parseInputAttributes: true,
    messageTemplate: null
});

To setup validation rules, use extenders. For instance:

var viewModel = {
    firstName: ko.observable().extend({ minLength: 2, maxLength: 10 }),
    lastName: ko.observable().extend({ required: true }),
    emailAddress: ko.observable().extend({  // custom message
        required: { message: 'Please supply your email address.' }
    })
};

Removing multiple keys from a dictionary safely

a solution is using map and filter functions

python 2

d={"a":1,"b":2,"c":3}
l=("a","b","d")
map(d.__delitem__, filter(d.__contains__,l))
print(d)

python 3

d={"a":1,"b":2,"c":3}
l=("a","b","d")
list(map(d.__delitem__, filter(d.__contains__,l)))
print(d)

you get:

{'c': 3}

Mocking member variables of a class using Mockito

I had the same issue where a private value was not set because Mockito does not call super constructors. Here is how I augment mocking with reflection.

First, I created a TestUtils class that contains many helpful utils including these reflection methods. Reflection access is a bit wonky to implement each time. I created these methods to test code on projects that, for one reason or another, had no mocking package and I was not invited to include it.

public class TestUtils {
    // get a static class value
    public static Object reflectValue(Class<?> classToReflect, String fieldNameValueToFetch) {
        try {
            Field reflectField  = reflectField(classToReflect, fieldNameValueToFetch);
            reflectField.setAccessible(true);
            Object reflectValue = reflectField.get(classToReflect);
            return reflectValue;
        } catch (Exception e) {
            fail("Failed to reflect "+fieldNameValueToFetch);
        }
        return null;
    }
    // get an instance value
    public static Object reflectValue(Object objToReflect, String fieldNameValueToFetch) {
        try {
            Field reflectField  = reflectField(objToReflect.getClass(), fieldNameValueToFetch);
            Object reflectValue = reflectField.get(objToReflect);
            return reflectValue;
        } catch (Exception e) {
            fail("Failed to reflect "+fieldNameValueToFetch);
        }
        return null;
    }
    // find a field in the class tree
    public static Field reflectField(Class<?> classToReflect, String fieldNameValueToFetch) {
        try {
            Field reflectField = null;
            Class<?> classForReflect = classToReflect;
            do {
                try {
                    reflectField = classForReflect.getDeclaredField(fieldNameValueToFetch);
                } catch (NoSuchFieldException e) {
                    classForReflect = classForReflect.getSuperclass();
                }
            } while (reflectField==null || classForReflect==null);
            reflectField.setAccessible(true);
            return reflectField;
        } catch (Exception e) {
            fail("Failed to reflect "+fieldNameValueToFetch +" from "+ classToReflect);
        }
        return null;
    }
    // set a value with no setter
    public static void refectSetValue(Object objToReflect, String fieldNameToSet, Object valueToSet) {
        try {
            Field reflectField  = reflectField(objToReflect.getClass(), fieldNameToSet);
            reflectField.set(objToReflect, valueToSet);
        } catch (Exception e) {
            fail("Failed to reflectively set "+ fieldNameToSet +"="+ valueToSet);
        }
    }

}

Then I can test the class with a private variable like this. This is useful for mocking deep in class trees that you have no control as well.

@Test
public void testWithRectiveMock() throws Exception {
    // mock the base class using Mockito
    ClassToMock mock = Mockito.mock(ClassToMock.class);
    TestUtils.refectSetValue(mock, "privateVariable", "newValue");
    // and this does not prevent normal mocking
    Mockito.when(mock.somthingElse()).thenReturn("anotherThing");
    // ... then do your asserts
}

I modified my code from my actual project here, in page. There could be a compile issue or two. I think you get the general idea. Feel free to grab the code and use it if you find it useful.

How to add default signature in Outlook

My solution is to display an empty message first (with default signature!) and insert the intended strHTMLBody into the existing HTMLBody.

If, like PowerUser states, the signature is wiped out while editing HTMLBody you might consider storing the contents of ObjMail.HTMLBody into variable strTemp immediately after ObjMail.Display and add strTemp afterwards but that should not be necessary.

Sub X(strTo as string, strSubject as string, strHTMLBody as string)

   Dim OlApp As Outlook.Application
   Dim ObjMail As Outlook.MailItem

   Set OlApp = Outlook.Application
   Set ObjMail = OlApp.CreateItem(olMailItem)

   ObjMail.To = strTo
   ObjMail.Subject = strSubject
   ObjMail.Display
   'You now have the default signature within ObjMail.HTMLBody.
   'Add this after adding strHTMLBody
   ObjMail.HTMLBody = strHTMLBody & ObjMail.HTMLBody

   'ObjMail.Send 'send immediately or
   'ObjMail.close olSave 'save as draft
   'Set OlApp = Nothing

End sub

From ES2016 you can also use slightly better / easier / more elegant method (case-sensitive):

if (referrer.includes("Ral")) { ... }

if (referrer.toLowerCase().includes(someString.toLowerCase())) { ... }

Here is some comparison of .indexOf() and .includes(): https://dev.to/adroitcoder/includes-vs-indexof-in-javascript

How to call URL action in MVC with javascript function?

Within your onDropDownChange handler, just make a jQuery AJAX call, passing in any data you need to pass up to your URL. You can handle successful and failure calls with the success and error options. In the success option, use the data contained in the data argument to do whatever rendering you need to do. Remember these are asynchronous by default!

function onDropDownChange(e) {
    var url = '/Home/Index/' + e.value;
    $.ajax({
      url: url,
      data: {}, //parameters go here in object literal form
      type: 'GET',
      datatype: 'json',
      success: function(data) { alert('got here with data'); },
      error: function() { alert('something bad happened'); }
    });
}

jQuery's AJAX documentation is here.

Convert LocalDate to LocalDateTime or java.sql.Timestamp

Test if a string contains any of the strings from an array

If you use Java 8 or above, you can rely on the Stream API to do such thing:

public static boolean containsItemFromArray(String inputString, String[] items) {
    // Convert the array of String items as a Stream
    // For each element of the Stream call inputString.contains(element)
    // If you have any match returns true, false otherwise
    return Arrays.stream(items).anyMatch(inputString::contains);
}

Assuming that you have a big array of big String to test you could also launch the search in parallel by calling parallel(), the code would then be:

return Arrays.stream(items).parallel().anyMatch(inputString::contains);

How can I set the focus (and display the keyboard) on my EditText programmatically

Here is how a kotlin extension for showing and hiding the soft keyboard can be made:

fun View.showKeyboard() {
  this.requestFocus()
  val inputMethodManager = context.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE) as InputMethodManager
  inputMethodManager.showSoftInput(this, InputMethodManager.SHOW_IMPLICIT)
}

fun View.hideKeyboard() {
  val inputMethodManager = context.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE) as InputMethodManager
  inputMethodManager.hideSoftInputFromWindow(windowToken, 0)
}

Then you can just do this:

editText.showKeyboard()
// OR
editText.hideKeyboard()

Dump Mongo Collection into JSON format

Here's mine command for reference:

mongoexport --db AppDB --collection files --pretty --out output.json

On Windows 7 (MongoDB 3.4), one has to move the cmd to the place where mongod.exe and mongo.exe file resides => C:\MongoDB\Server\3.4\bin else it won't work saying it does not recongnize mongoexport command.

Cannot connect to repo with TortoiseSVN

SVN is case-sensitive. Make sure that you're spelling it properly. If it got renamed, you can relocate the working folder to the new URL. See https://tortoisesvn.net/docs/release/TortoiseSVN_en/tsvn-dug-relocate.html

mongodb, replicates and error: { "$err" : "not master and slaveOk=false", "code" : 13435 }

You have to set "secondary okay" mode to let the mongo shell know that you're allowing reads from a secondary. This is to protect you and your applications from performing eventually consistent reads by accident. You can do this in the shell with:

rs.secondaryOk()

After that you can query normally from secondaries.

A note about "eventual consistency": under normal circumstances, replica set secondaries have all the same data as primaries within a second or less. Under very high load, data that you've written to the primary may take a while to replicate to the secondaries. This is known as "replica lag", and reading from a lagging secondary is known as an "eventually consistent" read, because, while the newly written data will show up at some point (barring network failures, etc), it may not be immediately available.

Edit: You only need to set secondaryOk when querying from secondaries, and only once per session.

PostgreSQL psql terminal command

psql --pset=format=FORMAT

Great for executing queries from command line, e.g.

psql --pset=format=unaligned -c "select bandanavalue from bandana where bandanakey = 'atlassian.confluence.settings';"

How to get the size of a file in MB (Megabytes)?

You can use FileChannel in Java.

FileChannel has the size() method to determine the size of the file.

    String fileName = "D://words.txt";

    Path filePath = Paths.get(fileName);

    FileChannel fileChannel = FileChannel.open(filePath);
    long fileSize = fileChannel.size();

    System.out.format("The size of the file: %d bytes", fileSize);

Or you can determine the file size using Apache Commons' FileUtils' sizeOf() method. If you are using maven, add this to pom.xml file.

<dependency>
    <groupId>commons-io</groupId>
    <artifactId>commons-io</artifactId>
    <version>2.6</version>
</dependency>

Try the following coding,

    String fileName = "D://words.txt";
    File f = new File(fileName);

    long fileSize = FileUtils.sizeOf(f);

    System.out.format("The size of the file: %d bytes", fileSize);

These methods will output the size in Bytes. So to get the MB size, you need to divide the file size from (1024*1024).

Now you can simply use the if-else conditions since the size is captured in MB.

Include another HTML file in a HTML file

A very old solution I did met my needs back then, but here's how to do it standards-compliant code:

<!--[if IE]>
<object classid="clsid:25336920-03F9-11CF-8FD0-00AA00686F13" data="some.html">
<p>backup content</p>
</object>
<![endif]-->

<!--[if !IE]> <-->
<object type="text/html" data="some.html">
<p>backup content</p>
</object>
<!--> <![endif]-->

COUNT / GROUP BY with active record?

I think you should count the results with FOUND_ROWS() and SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS. You'll need two queries: select, group_by, etc. You'll add a plus select: SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS user_id. After this query run a query: SELECT FOUND_ROWS(). This will return the desired number.

Oracle timestamp data type

Quite simply the number is the precision of the timestamp, the fraction of a second held in the column:

SQL> create table t23
  2  (ts0 timestamp(0)
  3   , ts3 timestamp(3)
  4  , ts6 timestamp(6)
  5  )
  6  /

Table created.

SQL> insert into t23 values (systimestamp, systimestamp, systimestamp)
  2  /

1 row created.

SQL> select * from t23
  2  /

Note that I'm running on Linux so my TIMESTAMP column actually gives me precision to six places i.e. microseconds. This would also be the case on most (all?) flavours of Unix. On Windows the limit is three places i.e. milliseconds. (Is this still true of the most modern flavours of Windows - citation needed).

As might be expected, the documentation covers this. Find out more.

How do I print out the value of this boolean? (Java)

you should just remove the 'boolean' in front of your boolean variable.

Do it like this:

boolean isLeapYear = true;
System.out.println(isLeapYear);

or

boolean isLeapYear = true;
System.out.println(isLeapYear?"yes":"no");

The other thing ist hat you seems not to call the method at all! The method and the variable are both not static, thus, you have to create an instance of your class first. Or you just make both static and than simply call your method directly from your maim method.

Thus there are a couple of mistakes in the code. May be you shoud start with a more simple example and than rework it until it does what you want.

Example:

import java.util.Scanner;

public class booleanfun    {
    static boolean isLeapYear;

    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        System.out.println("Enter a year to determine if it is a leap year or not: ");
        Scanner kboard = new Scanner(System.in);
        int year = kboard.nextInt();
        isLeapYear(year);
    }
    public static boolean isLeapYear(int year) {
        if (year % 4 != 0)
        isLeapYear = false;

        else if ((year % 4 == 0) && (year % 100 == 0))

        isLeapYear = false;

        else if ((year % 4 == 0) && (year % 100 == 0) && (year % 400 == 0))
            isLeapYear = true;

        else
            isLeapYear = false;

        System.out.println(isLeapYear);

        return isLeapYear;
    }
}

How to pass html string to webview on android

To load your data in WebView. Call loadData() method of WebView

How to get form values in Symfony2 controller

If you have extra fields in the form that not defined in Entity , $form->getData() doesn't work , one way could be this :

$request->get("form")["foo"]

Or :

$form->get('foo')->getData();

How to change 1 char in the string?

I suggest you to use StringBuilder class for it and than parse it to string if you need.

System.Text.StringBuilder strBuilder = new System.Text.StringBuilder("valta is the best place in the World");
strBuilder[0] = 'M';
string str=strBuilder.ToString();

You can't change string's characters in this way, because in C# string isn't dynamic and is immutable and it's chars are readonly. For make sure in it try to use methods of string, for example, if you do str.ToLower() it makes new string and your previous string doesn't change.

C# Return Different Types?

If you can make a abstract class for all the possibilities then that is highly recommended:

public Hardware GetAnything()
{
     Computer computer = new Computer();

     return computer;
}

abstract Hardware {

}

class Computer : Hardware {

}

Or an interface:

interface IHardware {

}

class Computer : IHardware {

}

If it can be anything then you could consider using "object" as your return type, because every class derives from object.

public object GetAnything()
{
     Hello hello = new Hello();

     return hello;
}

What precisely does 'Run as administrator' do?

Okay, let's re-iterate...

The actual question (and an excellent one at that)

"What does 'run as admin' do that being a member of the administrators group does not?"

(Answer)1. It allows you to call on administrator rights while under a user session.

Note: The question is wrongly put; one is a command and the other is a group object to apply policies.

Open a command prompt and type runas /?.

This will list all the switches the runas command line can use.

As for the Administrators Group this is based on GPEDIT or SECPOL and whether or not a Domain administrator is present or not or a network is present or not.

Usually these things will apply restrictions on computers that the administrators group is not affected by.

The question should be

What does runas admin do that run as user does not?

OR

What does the Administrator group do that a customized user group can't?

You are mixing apples and oranges.

Python constructors and __init__

Why are constructors indeed called "Constructors" ?

The constructor (named __new__) creates and returns a new instance of the class. So the C.__new__ class method is the constructor for the class C.

The C.__init__ instance method is called on a specific instance, after it is created, to initialise it before being passed back to the caller. So that method is the initialiser for new instances of C.

How are they different from methods in a class?

As stated in the official documentation __init__ is called after the instance is created. Other methods do not receive this treatment.

What is their purpose?

The purpose of the constructor C.__new__ is to define custom behaviour during construction of a new C instance.

The purpose of the initialiser C.__init__ is to define custom initialisation of each instance of C after it is created.

For example Python allows you to do:

class Test(object):
    pass

t = Test()

t.x = 10   # here you're building your object t
print t.x

But if you want every instance of Test to have an attribute x equal to 10, you can put that code inside __init__:

class Test(object):
    def __init__(self):
        self.x = 10

t = Test()
print t.x

Every instance method (a method called on a specific instance of a class) receives the instance as its first argument. That argument is conventionally named self.

Class methods, such as the constructor __new__, instead receive the class as their first argument.

Now, if you want custom values for the x attribute all you have to do is pass that value as argument to __init__:

class Test(object):
    def __init__(self, x):
        self.x = x

t = Test(10)
print t.x
z = Test(20)
print t.x

I hope this will help you clear some doubts, and since you've already received good answers to the other questions I will stop here :)

Difference between .keystore file and .jks file

Ultimately, .keystore and .jks are just file extensions: it's up to you to name your files sensibly. Some application use a keystore file stored in $HOME/.keystore: it's usually implied that it's a JKS file, since JKS is the default keystore type in the Sun/Oracle Java security provider. Not everyone uses the .jks extension for JKS files, because it's implied as the default. I'd recommend using the extension, just to remember which type to specify (if you need).

In Java, the word keystore can have either of the following meanings, depending on the context:

When talking about the file and storage, this is not really a storage facility for key/value pairs (there are plenty or other formats for this). Rather, it's a container to store cryptographic keys and certificates (I believe some of them can also store passwords). Generally, these files are encrypted and password-protected so as not to let this data available to unauthorized parties.

Java uses its KeyStore class and related API to make use of a keystore (whether it's file based or not). JKS is a Java-specific file format, but the API can also be used with other file types, typically PKCS#12. When you want to load a keystore, you must specify its keystore type. The conventional extensions would be:

  • .jks for type "JKS",
  • .p12 or .pfx for type "PKCS12" (the specification name is PKCS#12, but the # is not used in the Java keystore type name).

In addition, BouncyCastle also provides its implementations, in particular BKS (typically using the .bks extension), which is frequently used for Android applications.

Android: Rotate image in imageview by an angle

This is my implementation of RotatableImageView. Usage is very easy: just copy attrs.xml and RotatableImageView.java into your project and add RotatableImageView to your layout. Set desired rotation angle using example:angle parameter.

<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:example="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.example"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content">

    <com.example.views.RotatableImageView
        android:id="@+id/layout_example_image"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:adjustViewBounds="true"
        android:scaleType="fitCenter"
        android:src="@drawable/ic_layout_arrow"
        example:angle="180" />
</FrameLayout>

If you have some problems with displaying image, try change code in RotatableImageView.onDraw() method or use draw() method instead.

Can I change the height of an image in CSS :before/:after pseudo-elements?

Nowadays with flexbox you can greatly simplify your code and only adjust 1 parameter as needed:

.pdflink:after {
    content: url('/images/pdf.png');
    display: inline-flex;
    width: 10px;
}

Now you can just adjust the width of the element and the height will automatically adjust, increase/decrease the width until the height of the element is at the number you need.

How is using OnClickListener interface different via XML and Java code?

Even though you define android:onClick = "DoIt" in XML, you need to make sure your activity (or view context) has public method defined with exact same name and View as parameter. Android wires your definitions with this implementation in activity. At the end, implementation will have same code which you wrote in anonymous inner class. So, in simple words instead of having inner class and listener attachement in activity, you will simply have a public method with implementation code.

How to add two strings as if they were numbers?

If you need to add two strings together which are very large numbers you'll need to evaluate the addition at every string position:

function addStrings(str1, str2){

  str2a = str2.split('').reverse();
  let output = '';
  let longer = Math.max(str1.length, str2.length);
  let carry = false;
  for (let i = 0; i < longer; i++) {
    let result
    if (str1a[i] && str2a[i]) {
      result = parseInt(str1a[i]) + parseInt(str2a[i]);

    } else if (str1a[i] && !str2a[i]) {
      result = parseInt(str1a[i]);

    } else if (!str1a[i] && str2a[i]) {
      result = parseInt(str2a[i]);
    }

        result += 1;
        carry = false;
    }
    if(result >= 10) {
      carry = true;
      output += result.toString()[1];
    }else {
      output += result.toString();
    }
  }
  output = output.split('').reverse().join('');

  if(carry) {
    output = '1' + output;

Copying a local file from Windows to a remote server using scp

I see this post is very old, but in my search for an answer to this very question, I was unable to unearth a solution from the vast internet super highway. I, therefore, hope I can contribute and help someone as they too find themselves stumbling for an answer. This simple, natural question does not seem to be documented anywhere.

On Windows 10 Pro connecting to Windows 10 Pro, both running OpenSSH (Windows version 7.7p1, LibreSSL 2.6.5), I was able to find a solution by trial and error. Though surprisingly simple, it took a while. I found the required syntax to be

BY EXAMPLE INSTEAD OF MORE OBSCURE AND INCOMPLETE TEMPLATES:

Transferring securely from a remote system to your local system:

scp user@remotehost:\D\mySrcCode\ProjectFooBar\somefile.cpp C:\myRepo\ProjectFooBar

or going the other way around:

scp C:\myRepo\ProjectFooBar\somefile.cpp user@remotehost:\D\mySrcCode\ProjectFooBar

I also found that if spaces are in the path, the quotations should begin following the remote host name:

scp user@remotehost:"\D\My Long Folder Name\somefile.cpp" C:\myRepo\SimplerNamerBro

Also, for your particular case, I echo what Cornel says:

On Windows, use backslash, at least at conventional command console.

blur vs focusout -- any real differences?

The documentation for focusout says (emphasis mine):

The focusout event is sent to an element when it, or any element inside of it, loses focus. This is distinct from the blur event in that it supports detecting the loss of focus on descendant elements (in other words, it supports event bubbling).

The same distinction exists between the focusin and focus events.

Why cannot cast Integer to String in java?

You can't cast explicitly anything to a String that isn't a String. You should use either:

"" + myInt;

or:

Integer.toString(myInt);

or:

String.valueOf(myInt);

I prefer the second form, but I think it's personal choice.

Edit OK, here's why I prefer the second form. The first form, when compiled, could instantiate a StringBuffer (in Java 1.4) or a StringBuilder in 1.5; one more thing to be garbage collected. The compiler doesn't optimise this as far as I could tell. The second form also has an analogue, Integer.toString(myInt, radix) that lets you specify whether you want hex, octal, etc. If you want to be consistent in your code (purely aesthetically, I guess) the second form can be used in more places.

Edit 2 I assumed you meant that your integer was an int and not an Integer. If it's already an Integer, just use toString() on it and be done.

Handling onchange event in HTML.DropDownList Razor MVC

The way of dknaack does not work for me, I found this solution as well:

@Html.DropDownList("Chapters", ViewBag.Chapters as SelectList,
                    "Select chapter", new { @onchange = "location = this.value;" })

where

@Html.DropDownList(controlName, ViewBag.property + cast, "Default value", @onchange event)

In the controller you can add:

DbModel db = new DbModel(); //entity model of Entity Framework

ViewBag.Chapters = new SelectList(db.T_Chapter, "Id", "Name");

correct way to use super (argument passing)

As explained in Python's super() considered super, one way is to have class eat the arguments it requires, and pass the rest on. Thus, when the call-chain reaches object, all arguments have been eaten, and object.__init__ will be called without arguments (as it expects). So your code should look like this:

class A(object):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        print "A"
        super(A, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class B(object):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        print "B"
        super(B, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class C(A):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "C","arg=",arg
        super(C, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class D(B):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "D", "arg=",arg
        super(D, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class E(C,D):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "E", "arg=",arg
        super(E, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

print "MRO:", [x.__name__ for x in E.__mro__]
E(10, 20, 30)

Eclipse hangs on loading workbench

Eclipse freezing at startup - before loading workspace very good answer on this post. repeating the answer that worked for me

In your workspace directory perform the following steps:

cd .metadata/.plugins

mv org.eclipse.core.resources org.eclipse.core.resources.bak

Start eclipse. (It should show an error message or an empty workspace because no project is found.)

Close all open editors tabs.

Exit eclipse.

rm -rf org.eclipse.core.resources (Delete the newly created directory.)

mv org.eclipse.core.resources.bak/ org.eclipse.core.resources (Restore the original directory.)

Start eclipse and start working. :-)

What is a good alternative to using an image map generator?

I have found Adobe Dreamweaver to be quite good at that. However, it's not free.

How to remove specific session in asp.net?

A single way to remove sessions is setting it to null;

Session["your_session"] = null;

PHP 5.4 Call-time pass-by-reference - Easy fix available?

PHP and references are somewhat unintuitive. If used appropriately references in the right places can provide large performance improvements or avoid very ugly workarounds and unusual code.

The following will produce an error:

 function f(&$v){$v = true;}
 f(&$v);

 function f($v){$v = true;}
 f(&$v);

None of these have to fail as they could follow the rules below but have no doubt been removed or disabled to prevent a lot of legacy confusion.

If they did work, both involve a redundant conversion to reference and the second also involves a redundant conversion back to a scoped contained variable.

The second one used to be possible allowing a reference to be passed to code that wasn't intended to work with references. This is extremely ugly for maintainability.

This will do nothing:

 function f($v){$v = true;}
 $r = &$v;
 f($r);

More specifically, it turns the reference back into a normal variable as you have not asked for a reference.

This will work:

 function f(&$v){$v = true;}
 f($v);

This sees that you are passing a non-reference but want a reference so turns it into a reference.

What this means is that you can't pass a reference to a function where a reference is not explicitly asked for making it one of the few areas where PHP is strict on passing types or in this case more of a meta type.

If you need more dynamic behaviour this will work:

 function f(&$v){$v = true;}
 $v = array(false,false,false);
 $r = &$v[1];
 f($r);

Here it sees that you want a reference and already have a reference so leaves it alone. It may also chain the reference but I doubt this.

Setting a max height on a table

I had a coworker ask how to do this today, and this is what I came up with. I don't love it but it is a way to do it without js and have headers respected. The main drawback however is you lose some semantics due to not having a true table header anymore.

Basically I wrap a table within a table, and use a div as the scroll container by giving it a max-height. Since I wrap the table in a parent table "colspanning" the fake header rows it appears as if the table respects them, but in reality the child table just has the same number of rows.

One small issue due to the scroll bar taking up space the child table column widths wont match up exactly.

Live Demo

Markup

<table class="table-container">
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>header col 1</td>
            <td>header col 2</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td colspan="2">
                <div class="scroll-container">
                    <table>
                        <tr>
                            <td>entry1</td>
                            <td>entry1</td>
                        </tr>
                       ........ all your entries
                    </table>
                </div>
            </td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

CSS

.table-container {
    border:1px solid #ccc;
    border-radius: 3px;
    width:50%;
}
.table-container table {
    width: 100%;
}
.scroll-container{
    max-height: 150px;
    overflow-y: scroll;
}

Can we rely on String.isEmpty for checking null condition on a String in Java?

No, the String.isEmpty() method looks as following:

public boolean isEmpty() {
    return this.value.length == 0;
}

as you can see it checks the length of the string so you definitely have to check if the string is null before.

What is the difference between display: inline and display: inline-block?

splattne's answer probably covered most of everything so I won't repeat the same thing, but: inline and inline-block behave differently with the direction CSS property.

Within the next snippet you see one two (in order) is rendered, like it does in LTR layouts. I suspect the browser here auto-detected the English part as LTR text and rendered it from left to right.

_x000D_
_x000D_
body {_x000D_
  text-align: right;_x000D_
  direction: rtl;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
h2 {_x000D_
  display: block; /* just being explicit */_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
span {_x000D_
  display: inline;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<h2>_x000D_
  ??? ????? ????_x000D_
  <span>one</span>_x000D_
  <span>two</span>_x000D_
</h2>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

However, if I go ahead and set display to inline-block, the browser appears to respect the direction property and render the elements from right to left in order, so that two one is rendered.

_x000D_
_x000D_
body {_x000D_
  text-align: right;_x000D_
  direction: rtl;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
h2 {_x000D_
  display: block; /* just being explicit */_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
span {_x000D_
  display: inline-block;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<h2>_x000D_
  ??? ????? ????_x000D_
  <span>one</span>_x000D_
  <span>two</span>_x000D_
</h2>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

I don't know if there are any other quirks to this, I only found about this empirically on Chrome.

Right align text in android TextView

In my case, I was using Relative Layout for a emptyString

After struggling on this for an hour. Only this worked for me:

android:layout_toRightOf="@id/welcome"
android:layout_toEndOf="@id/welcome"
android:layout_alignBaseline="@id/welcome"

layout_toRightOf or layout_toEndOf both works, but to support it better, I used both.

To make it more clear:

This was what I was trying to do:

enter image description here

And this was the emulator's output

enter image description here

Layout:

<TextView
    android:id="@+id/welcome"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_marginStart="16dp"
    android:layout_marginTop="16dp"
    android:text="Welcome "
    android:textSize="16sp" />
<TextView
    android:id="@+id/username"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_alignBaseline="@id/welcome"
    android:layout_toRightOf="@id/welcome"
    android:text="@string/emptyString"
    android:textSize="16sp" />

Notice that:

  1. android:layout_width="wrap_content" works
  2. Gravity is not used

How to open new browser window on button click event?

You can use some code like this, you can adjust a height and width as per your need

    protected void button_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        // open a pop up window at the center of the page.
        ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(string), "OPEN_WINDOW", "var Mleft = (screen.width/2)-(760/2);var Mtop = (screen.height/2)-(700/2);window.open( 'your_page.aspx', null, 'height=700,width=760,status=yes,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes,menubar=no,location=no,top=\'+Mtop+\', left=\'+Mleft+\'' );", true);
    }

Calling a Javascript Function from Console

If it's inside a closure, i'm pretty sure you can't.

Otherwise you just do functionName(); and hit return.

TypeError: 'int' object is not subscriptable

If you want to sum the digit of a number, one way to do it is using sum() + a generator expression:

sum(int(i) for i in str(155))

I modified a little your code using sum(), maybe you want to take a look at it:

birthday = raw_input("When is your birthday(mm/dd/yyyy)? ")
summ = sum(int(i) for i in birthday[0:2])
sumd = sum(int(i) for i in birthday[3:5])
sumy = sum(int(i) for i in birthday[6:10])
sumall = summ + sumd + sumy
print "The sum of your numbers is", sumall
sumln = sum(int(c) for c in str(sumall)))
print "Your lucky number is", sumln

How to select a single column with Entity Framework?

I'm a complete noob on Entity but this is how I would do it in theory...

var name = yourDbContext.MyTable.Find(1).Name;

If It's A Primary Key.

-- OR --

var name = yourDbContext.MyTable.SingleOrDefault(mytable => mytable.UserId == 1).Name;

-- OR --

For whole Column:

var names = yourDbContext.MyTable
.Where(mytable => mytable.UserId == 1)
.Select(column => column.Name); //You can '.ToList();' this....

But "oh Geez Rick, What do I know..."
