img tag displays wrong orientation

This problem was driving me crazy too. I was using PHP on my server side so I was not able to use @The Lazy Log(ruby) & @deweydb(python) solutions. However it pointed me to the right direction. I fixed it on the backed using Imagick's getImageOrientation().

<?php
// Note: $image is an Imagick object, not a filename! See example use below.
function autoRotateImage($image) {
    $orientation = $image->getImageOrientation();

    switch($orientation) {
        case imagick::ORIENTATION_BOTTOMRIGHT:
            $image->rotateimage("#000", 180); // rotate 180 degrees
        break;

        case imagick::ORIENTATION_RIGHTTOP:
            $image->rotateimage("#000", 90); // rotate 90 degrees CW
        break;

        case imagick::ORIENTATION_LEFTBOTTOM:
            $image->rotateimage("#000", -90); // rotate 90 degrees CCW
        break;
    }

    // Now that it's auto-rotated, make sure the EXIF data is correct in case the EXIF gets saved with the image!
    $image->setImageOrientation(imagick::ORIENTATION_TOPLEFT);
}
?>

javascript function wait until another function to finish

In my opinion, deferreds/promises (as you have mentionned) is the way to go, rather than using timeouts.

Here is an example I have just written to demonstrate how you could do it using deferreds/promises.

Take some time to play around with deferreds. Once you really understand them, it becomes very easy to perform asynchronous tasks.

Hope this helps!

$(function(){
    function1().done(function(){
        // function1 is done, we can now call function2
        console.log('function1 is done!');

        function2().done(function(){
            //function2 is done
            console.log('function2 is done!');
        });
    });
});

function function1(){
    var dfrd1 = $.Deferred();
    var dfrd2= $.Deferred();

    setTimeout(function(){
        // doing async stuff
        console.log('task 1 in function1 is done!');
        dfrd1.resolve();
    }, 1000);

    setTimeout(function(){
        // doing more async stuff
        console.log('task 2 in function1 is done!');
        dfrd2.resolve();
    }, 750);

    return $.when(dfrd1, dfrd2).done(function(){
        console.log('both tasks in function1 are done');
        // Both asyncs tasks are done
    }).promise();
}

function function2(){
    var dfrd1 = $.Deferred();
    setTimeout(function(){
        // doing async stuff
        console.log('task 1 in function2 is done!');
        dfrd1.resolve();
    }, 2000);
    return dfrd1.promise();
}

How can I find a file/directory that could be anywhere on linux command line?

How to avoid "cannot load such file -- utils/popen" from homebrew on OSX

The problem mainly occurs after updating OS X to El Capitan (OS X 10.11) or macOS Sierra (macOS 10.12).

This is because of file permission issues with El Capitan’s or later macOS's new SIP process. Try changing the permissions for the /usr/local directory:

$ sudo chown -R $(whoami):admin /usr/local

If it still doesn't work, use these steps inside a terminal session and everything will be fine:

cd /usr/local/Library/Homebrew
git reset --hard
git clean -df
brew update

This may be because homebrew is not updated.

Convert Go map to json

It actually tells you what's wrong, but you ignored it because you didn't check the error returned from json.Marshal.

json: unsupported type: map[int]main.Foo

JSON spec doesn't support anything except strings for object keys, while javascript won't be fussy about it, it's still illegal.

You have two options:

1 Use map[string]Foo and convert the index to string (using fmt.Sprint for example):

datas := make(map[string]Foo, N)

for i := 0; i < 10; i++ {
    datas[fmt.Sprint(i)] = Foo{Number: 1, Title: "test"}
}
j, err := json.Marshal(datas)
fmt.Println(string(j), err)

2 Simply just use a slice (javascript array):

datas2 := make([]Foo, N)
for i := 0; i < 10; i++ {
    datas2[i] = Foo{Number: 1, Title: "test"}
}
j, err = json.Marshal(datas2)
fmt.Println(string(j), err)

Can't start Tomcat as Windows Service

  1. Check the apache tomcat catalina log: ../logs/catalina.log
  2. If in the log you find the "port was used" exception, then Check windows used ports and processes with following command: Run cmd netstat -ao it will list all listening ports and corresponding process Id, you can find the port which was used by Tomcat from the configuration file: ../conf/server.xml

pandas dataframe columns scaling with sklearn

df = pd.DataFrame(scale.fit_transform(df.values), columns=df.columns, index=df.index)

This should work without depreciation warnings.

How to print pandas DataFrame without index

Similar to many of the answers above that use df.to_string(index=False), I often find it necessary to extract a single column of values in which case you can specify an individual column with .to_string using the following:

data = pd.DataFrame({'col1': np.random.randint(0, 100, 10),
    'col2': np.random.randint(50, 100, 10),
    'col3': np.random.randint(10, 10000, 10)})

print(data.to_string(columns=['col1'], index=False)

print(data.to_string(columns=['col1', 'col2'], index=False))

Which provides an easy to copy (and index free) output for use pasting elsewhere (Excel). Sample output:

col1  col2
49    62
97    97
87    94
85    61
18    55

PHP mail function doesn't complete sending of e-mail

First of all, you might have too many parameters for the mail() function... You are able to have of maximum of five, mail(to, subject, message, headers, parameters);

As far as the $from variable goes, that should automatically come from your webhost if your using the Linux cPanel. It automatically comes from your cPanel username and IP address.

$name = $_POST['name'];
$email = $_POST['email'];
$message = $_POST['message'];
$from = 'From: yoursite.com';
$to = '[email protected]';
$subject = 'Customer Inquiry';
$body = "From: $name\n E-Mail: $email\n Message:\n $message";

Also make sure you have the correct order of variables in your mail() function.

The mail($to, $subject, $message, etc.) in that order, or else there is a chance of it not working.

When is the init() function run?

A few more tips:

  • There can only be 1 main() function, but there can be many init() functions.
  • You do not need to explicitly call init() or main(), they are called automatically.
  • init() and main() do not accept any parameters and also don't return anything.
  • init() runs before main().
  • If you have many init(), they run in the order they are declared.

How to implement OnFragmentInteractionListener

Answers posted here did not help, but the following link did:

http://developer.android.com/training/basics/fragments/communicating.html

Define an Interface

public class HeadlinesFragment extends ListFragment {
    OnHeadlineSelectedListener mCallback;

    // Container Activity must implement this interface
    public interface OnHeadlineSelectedListener {
        public void onArticleSelected(int position);
    }

    @Override
    public void onAttach(Activity activity) {
        super.onAttach(activity);

        // This makes sure that the container activity has implemented
        // the callback interface. If not, it throws an exception
        try {
            mCallback = (OnHeadlineSelectedListener) activity;
        } catch (ClassCastException e) {
            throw new ClassCastException(activity.toString()
                    + " must implement OnHeadlineSelectedListener");
        }
    }

    ...
}

For example, the following method in the fragment is called when the user clicks on a list item. The fragment uses the callback interface to deliver the event to the parent activity.

@Override
public void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) {
    // Send the event to the host activity
    mCallback.onArticleSelected(position);
}

Implement the Interface

For example, the following activity implements the interface from the above example.

public static class MainActivity extends Activity
        implements HeadlinesFragment.OnHeadlineSelectedListener{
    ...

    public void onArticleSelected(int position) {
        // The user selected the headline of an article from the HeadlinesFragment
        // Do something here to display that article
    }
}

Update for API 23: 8/31/2015

Overrided method onAttach(Activity activity) is now deprecated in android.app.Fragment, code should be upgraded to onAttach(Context context)

@Override
public void onAttach(Context context) {
    super.onAttach(context);
}

@Override
public void onStart() {
    super.onStart();
    try {
        mListener = (OnFragmentInteractionListener) getActivity();
    } catch (ClassCastException e) {
        throw new ClassCastException(getActivity().toString()
                + " must implement OnFragmentInteractionListener");
    }
}

Pause Console in C++ program

Late response, but I think it will help others.

Part of imitating system("pause") is imitating what it asks the user to do: "Press any key to continue . . . " So, we need something that does not wait for simply a return as std::cin.get() would do. Even getch() has its problems when used twice (the second time call has been noticed to skip pausing generally if it's immediately paused again afterwards on the same key press). I think it has to do with the input buffer. System("pause") is usually not recommended, but we still need something to imitate what users might already expect. I prefer getch() because it doesn't echo to the screen, and it works dynamically.

The solution is to do the following using a do-while loop:

void Console::pause()
{
    int ch = 0;

    std::cout << "\nPress any key to continue . . . ";

    do {
        ch = getch();
    } while (ch != 0);

    std::cout << std::endl;
}

Now it waits for the user to press any key. If it's used twice, it waits for the user again instead of skipping.

Loop through childNodes

Couldn't resist to add another method, using childElementCount. It returns the number of child element nodes from a given parent, so you can loop over it.

for(var i=0, len = parent.childElementCount ; i < len; ++i){
    ... do something with parent.children[i]
    }

Custom Listview Adapter with filter Android

You can implement search filter in listview by two ways. 1. using searchview 2. using edittext.

  1. If yo want to use searchview then read here : searchview filter.

  2. If you want to use edittext, read below.

I have taken reference from : listview search filter android

Code snippets to make filter with edittext.

First create model class MovieNames.java:

public class MovieNames {
    private String movieName;

    public MovieNames(String movieName) {
        this.movieName = movieName;
    }

    public String getMovieName() {
        return this.movieName;
    }

}

Create listview_item.xml file :

     <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:padding="10dp">

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/name"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content" />

</RelativeLayout>

Make ListViewAdapter.java class :

    import android.content.Context;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.BaseAdapter;
import android.widget.TextView;

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Locale;

public class ListViewAdapter extends BaseAdapter {

    // Declare Variables

    Context mContext;
    LayoutInflater inflater;
    private ArrayList<MovieNames> arraylist;

    public ListViewAdapter(Context context, ArrayList<MovieNames> arraylist) {
        mContext = context;
        inflater = LayoutInflater.from(mContext);
        this.arraylist = arraylist;

    }

    public class ViewHolder {
        TextView name;
    }

    @Override
    public int getCount() {
        return arraylist.size();
    }

    @Override
    public MovieNames getItem(int position) {
        return arraylist.get(position);
    }

    @Override
    public long getItemId(int position) {
        return position;
    }

    public View getView(final int position, View view, ViewGroup parent) {
        final ViewHolder holder;
        if (view == null) {
            holder = new ViewHolder();
            view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.listview_item, null);
            // Locate the TextViews in listview_item.xml
            holder.name = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.name);
            view.setTag(holder);
        } else {
            holder = (ViewHolder) view.getTag();
        }
        // Set the results into TextViews
        holder.name.setText(arraylist.get(position).getMovieName());
        return view;
    }

}

Prepare activity_main.xml file :

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
    android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
    android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
    android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
    tools:context="com.example.parsaniahardik.searchedit.MainActivity"
    android:orientation="vertical">

    <EditText
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:id="@+id/editText"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
        android:layout_alignParentStart="true"
        android:hint="enter query"
        android:singleLine="true">

        <requestFocus/>
    </EditText>

    <ListView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:id="@+id/listView"
        android:divider="#694fea"
        android:dividerHeight="1dp" />

</LinearLayout>

Finally make MainActivity.java class :

    import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.text.Editable;
import android.text.TextWatcher;
import android.util.Log;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.EditText;
import android.widget.ListView;
import android.widget.SearchView;
import android.widget.Toast;

import java.util.ArrayList;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    private EditText etsearch;
    private ListView list;
    private ListViewAdapter adapter;
    private String[] moviewList;
    public static ArrayList<MovieNames> movieNamesArrayList;
    public static ArrayList<MovieNames> array_sort;
    int textlength = 0;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        // Generate sample data

        moviewList = new String[]{"Xmen", "Titanic", "Captain America",
                "Iron man", "Rocky", "Transporter", "Lord of the rings", "The jungle book",
                "Tarzan","Cars","Shreck"};

        list = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.listView);

        movieNamesArrayList = new ArrayList<>();
        array_sort = new ArrayList<>();

        for (int i = 0; i < moviewList.length; i++) {
            MovieNames movieNames = new MovieNames(moviewList[i]);
            // Binds all strings into an array
            movieNamesArrayList.add(movieNames);
            array_sort.add(movieNames);
        }

        adapter = new ListViewAdapter(this,movieNamesArrayList);
        list.setAdapter(adapter);

        etsearch = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editText);

        list.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
                Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, array_sort.get(position).getMovieName(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
            }
        });

        etsearch.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {

            public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {
            }

            public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {
            }

            public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) {

If it is not pointed to the javac you want to compile with, point it to "/JAVA8_HOME/bin/javac", or which ever java you want to compile with.

Shrinking navigation bar when scrolling down (bootstrap3)

I am using this code for my project

$(window).scroll ( function() {

Pandas - Compute z-score for all columns

Using Scipy's zscore function:

df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randint(100, 200, size=(5, 3)), columns=['A', 'B', 'C'])
df

|    |   A |   B |   C |
|---:|----:|----:|----:|
|  0 | 163 | 163 | 159 |
|  1 | 120 | 153 | 181 |
|  2 | 130 | 199 | 108 |
|  3 | 108 | 188 | 157 |
|  4 | 109 | 171 | 119 |

from scipy.stats import zscore
df.apply(zscore)

|    |         A |         B |         C |
|---:|----------:|----------:|----------:|
|  0 |  1.83447  | -0.708023 |  0.523362 |
|  1 | -0.297482 | -1.30804  |  1.3342   |
|  2 |  0.198321 |  1.45205  | -1.35632  |
|  3 | -0.892446 |  0.792025 |  0.449649 |
|  4 | -0.842866 | -0.228007 | -0.950897 |

If not all the columns of your data frame are numeric, then you can apply the Z-score function only to the numeric columns using the select_dtypes function:

# Note that `select_dtypes` returns a data frame. We are selecting only the columns
numeric_cols = df.select_dtypes(include=[np.number]).columns
df[numeric_cols].apply(zscore)

|    |         A |         B |         C |
|---:|----------:|----------:|----------:|
|  0 |  1.83447  | -0.708023 |  0.523362 |
|  1 | -0.297482 | -1.30804  |  1.3342   |
|  2 |  0.198321 |  1.45205  | -1.35632  |
|  3 | -0.892446 |  0.792025 |  0.449649 |
|  4 | -0.842866 | -0.228007 | -0.950897 |

No function matches the given name and argument types

That error means that a function call is only matched by an existing function if all its arguments are of the same type and passed in same order. So if the next f() function

create function f() returns integer as $$
    select 1;
$$ language sql;

is called as

select f(1);

It will error out with

ERROR: function f(integer) does not exist
LINE 1: select f(1);
               ^
HINT: No function matches the given name and argument types. You might need to add explicit type casts.

because there is no f() function that takes an integer as argument.

So you need to carefully compare what you are passing to the function to what it is expecting. That long list of table columns looks like bad design.

Select a row from html table and send values onclick of a button

In my case $(document).ready(function() was missing. Try this.

$(document).ready(function(){
("#table tr").click(function(){
       $(this).addClass('selected').siblings().removeClass('selected');
       var value=$(this).find('td:first').html();
       alert(value);
    });
    $('.ok').on('click', function(e){
        alert($("#table tr.selected td:first").html());
    });
});

notifyDataSetChanged not working on RecyclerView

In your parseResponse() you are creating a new instance of the BusinessAdapter class, but you aren't actually using it anywhere, so your RecyclerView doesn't know the new instance exists.

You either need to:

  • Call recyclerView.setAdapter(mBusinessAdapter) again to update the RecyclerView's adapter reference to point to your new one
  • Or just remove mBusinessAdapter = new BusinessAdapter(mBusinesses); to continue using the existing adapter. Since you haven't changed the mBusinesses reference, the adapter will still use that array list and should update correctly when you call notifyDataSetChanged().

android download pdf from url then open it with a pdf reader

Hi the problem is in FileDownloader class

 urlConnection.setRequestMethod("GET");
    urlConnection.setDoOutput(true);

You need to remove the above two lines and everything will work fine. Please mark the question as answered if it is working as expected.

Latest solution for the same problem is updated Android PDF Write / Read using Android 9 (API level 28)

Yes, you may use an anchor by specifying the id attribute of an element and then linking to it with a hash.

For example (taken from the W3 specification):

<H2 id="section2">Section Two</H2>
...later in the document
<P>Please refer to <A href="#section2">Section Two</A> above

how to change the default positioning of modal in bootstrap?

To change the Modal position in the viewport you can target the Modal div id, in this example this id is myModal3

Open firewall port on CentOS 7

The top answers here work, but I found something more elegant in Michael Hampton's answer to a related question. The "new" (firewalld-0.3.9-11+) --runtime-to-permanent option to firewall-cmd lets you create runtime rules and test them out before making them permanent:

$ firewall-cmd --zone=<zone> --add-port=2888/tcp
<Test it out>
$ firewall-cmd --runtime-to-permanent

Or to revert the runtime-only changes:

$ firewall-cmd --reload

Also see Antony Nguyen's comment. Apparently firewall-cmd --reload may not work properly in some cases where rules have been removed. In that case, he suggests restarting the firewalld service:

$ systemctl restart firewalld

Maven skip tests

During maven compilation you can skip test execution by adding following plugin in pom.xml

<plugin>
    <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
    <artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
    <version>2.20.1</version>
    <configuration>
         <skipTests>true</skipTests>
    </configuration>
</plugin>

Add resources, config files to your jar using gradle

Move the config files from src/main/java to src/main/resources.

Swift days between two NSDates

easier option would be to create a extension on Date

public extension Date {

        public func daysBetween(_ date: Date) -> Int {

            return components.day!
        }

Could not extract response: no suitable HttpMessageConverter found for response type

Since you return to the client just String and its content type == 'text/plain', there is no any chance for default converters to determine how to convert String response to the FFSampleResponseHttp object.

The simple way to fix it:

  • remove expected-response-type from <int-http:outbound-gateway>
  • add to the replyChannel1 <json-to-object-transformer>

Otherwise you should write your own HttpMessageConverter to convert the String to the appropriate object.

To make it work with MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter (one of default converters) and your expected-response-type, you should send your reply with content type = 'application/json'.

If there is a need, just add <header-enricher> after your <service-activator> and before sending a reply to the <int-http:inbound-gateway>.

So, it's up to you which solution to select, but your current state doesn't work, because of inconsistency with default configuration.

UPDATE

OK. Since you changed your server to return FfSampleResponseHttp object as HTTP response, not String, just add contentType = 'application/json' header before sending the response for the HTTP and MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter will do the stuff for you - your object will be converted to JSON and with correct contentType header.

From client side you should come back to the expected-response-type="com.mycompany.MyChannel.model.FFSampleResponseHttp" and MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter should do the stuff for you again.

Of course you should remove <json-to-object-transformer> from you message flow after <int-http:outbound-gateway>.

C convert floating point to int

double a = 100.3;
printf("%f %d\n", a, (int)(a* 10.0));

Output Cygwin 100.3 1003
Output MinGW: 100.3 1002

Using (int) to convert double to int seems not to be fail-safe

You can find more about that here: Convert double to int?

NPM: npm-cli.js not found when running npm

I encountered the exact same problem today in a Linux server. And the reason is really simple as I didn't do make install after make and tried to directly call the generated npm. Thus the PATH and everything was a mess.

So for me, the solution is just to do make install after make and run the npm under .node/bin/npm.

How to define global variable in Google Apps Script

You might be better off using the Properties Service as you can use these as a kind of persistent global variable.

click 'file > project properties > project properties' to set a key value, or you can use

PropertiesService.getScriptProperties().setProperty('mykey', 'myvalue');

The data can be retrieved with

var myvalue = PropertiesService.getScriptProperties().getProperty('mykey');

SyntaxError: non-default argument follows default argument

As the error message says, non-default argument til should not follow default argument hgt.

Changing order of parameters (function call also be adjusted accordingly) or making hgt non-default parameter will solve your problem.

->

def a(len1, hgt, til, col=0):

UPDATE

Another issue that is hidden by the SyntaxError.

os.system accepts only one string parameter.

def a(len1, hgt, til, col=0):
    system('mode con cols=%s lines=%s' % (len1, hgt))
    system('title %s' % til)
    system('color %s' % col)

ReactJS - Does render get called any time "setState" is called?

Does React re-render all components and sub-components every time setState is called?

By default - yes.

There is a method boolean shouldComponentUpdate(object nextProps, object nextState), each component has this method and it's responsible to determine "should component update (run render function)?" every time you change state or pass new props from parent component.

You can write your own implementation of shouldComponentUpdate method for your component, but default implementation always returns true - meaning always re-run render function.

Quote from official docs http://facebook.github.io/react/docs/component-specs.html#updating-shouldcomponentupdate

By default, shouldComponentUpdate always returns true to prevent subtle bugs when the state is mutated in place, but if you are careful to always treat the state as immutable and to read-only from props and state in render() then you can override shouldComponentUpdate with an implementation that compares the old props and state to their replacements.

Next part of your question:

If so, why? I thought the idea was that React only rendered as little as needed - when the state changed.

There are two steps of what we may call "render":

  1. Virtual DOM renders: when render method is called it returns a new virtual dom structure of the component. As I mentioned before, this render method is called always when you call setState(), because shouldComponentUpdate always returns true by default. So, by default, there is no optimization here in React.

  2. Native DOM renders: React changes real DOM nodes in your browser only if they were changed in the Virtual DOM and as little as needed - this is that great React's feature which optimizes real DOM mutation and makes React fast.

Backup/Restore a dockerized PostgreSQL database

Okay, I've figured this out. Postgresql does not detect changes to the folder /var/lib/postgresql once it's launched, at least not the kind of changes I want it do detect.

The first solution is to start a container with bash instead of starting the postgres server directly, restore the data, and then start the server manually.

The second solution is to use a data container. I didn't get the point of it before, now I do. This data container allows to restore the data before starting the postgres container. Thus, when the postgres server starts, the data are already there.

"break;" out of "if" statement?

As already mentioned that, break-statement works only with switches and loops. Here is another way to achieve what is being asked. I am reproducing https://stackoverflow.com/a/257421/1188057 as nobody else mentioned it. It's just a trick involving the do-while loop.

do {
  // do something
  if (error) {
    break;
  }
  // do something else
  if (error) {
    break;
  }
  // etc..
} while (0);

Though I would prefer the use of goto-statement.

Step out of current function with GDB

You can use the finish command.

finish: Continue running until just after function in the selected stack frame returns. Print the returned value (if any). This command can be abbreviated as fin.

JPA Query selecting only specific columns without using Criteria Query?

Excellent answer! I do have a small addition. Regarding this solution:

TypedQuery<CustomObject> typedQuery = em.createQuery(query , String query = "SELECT NEW CustomObject(i.firstProperty, i.secondProperty) FROM ObjectName i WHERE i.id=100";
TypedQuery<CustomObject> typedQuery = em.createQuery(query , CustomObject.class);
List<CustomObject> results = typedQuery.getResultList();CustomObject.class);

To prevent a class not found error simply insert the full package name. Assuming org.company.directory is the package name of CustomObject:

String query = "SELECT NEW org.company.directory.CustomObject(i.firstProperty, i.secondProperty) FROM ObjectName i WHERE i.id=10";
TypedQuery<CustomObject> typedQuery = em.createQuery(query , CustomObject.class);
List<CustomObject> results = typedQuery.getResultList();

How do I POST urlencoded form data with $http without jQuery?

I think you need to do is to transform your data from object not to JSON string, but to url params.

From Ben Nadel's blog.

By default, the $http service will transform the outgoing request by serializing the data as JSON and then posting it with the content- type, "application/json". When we want to post the value as a FORM post, we need to change the serialization algorithm and post the data with the content-type, "application/x-www-form-urlencoded".

Example from here.

$http({
    method: 'POST',
    url: url,
    headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'},

Java - using System.getProperty("user.dir") to get the home directory

way of getting home directory of current user is

String currentUsersHomeDir = System.getProperty("user.home");

and to append path separator

String otherFolder = currentUsersHomeDir + File.separator + "other";

File.separator

The system-dependent default name-separator character, represented as a string for convenience. This string contains a single character, namely separatorChar.

Python and JSON - TypeError list indices must be integers not str

You can simplify your code down to

url = "http://worldcup.kimonolabs.com/api/players?apikey=xxx"
json_obj = urllib2.urlopen(url).read
player_json_list = json.loads(json_obj)
for player in readable_json_list:
    print player['firstName']

You were trying to access a list element using dictionary syntax. the equivalent of

foo = [1, 2, 3, 4]
foo["1"]

It can be confusing when you have lists of dictionaries and keeping the nesting in order.

How do you stylize a font in Swift?

A great resource is iosfonts.com, which says that the name for that font is HelveticaNeue-UltraLight. So you'd use this code:

label.font = UIFont(name: "HelveticaNeue-UltraLight", size: 30)

If the system can't find the font, it defaults to a 'normal' font - I think it's something like 11-point Helvetica. This can be quite confusing, always check your font names.

What is setContentView(R.layout.main)?

Set the activity content from a layout resource. The resource will be inflated, adding all top-level views to the activity.

  • Activity is basically a empty window
  • SetContentView is used to fill the window with the UI provided from layout file incase of setContentView(R.layout.somae_file).
  • Here layoutfile is inflated to view and added to the Activity context(Window).

You need to put the data before render

Should be like this:

var data = [
  {author: "Pete Hunt", text: "This is one comment"},
  {author: "Jordan Walke", text: "This is *another* comment"}
];

React.render(
  <CommentBox data={data}/>,
  document.getElementById('content')
);

Instead of this:

React.render(
  <CommentBox data={data}/>,
  document.getElementById('content')
);

var data = [
  {author: "Pete Hunt", text: "This is one comment"},
  {author: "Jordan Walke", text: "This is *another* comment"}

How to change the color of text in javafx TextField?

If you are designing your Javafx application using SceneBuilder then use -fx-text-fill(if not available as option then write it in style input box) as style and give the color you want,it will change the text color of your Textfield.

Swift: Convert enum value to String?

Not sure in which Swift version this feature was added, but right now (Swift 2.1) you only need this code:

enum Audience : String {
    case public
    case friends
    case private
}

let audience = Audience.public.rawValue // "public"

When strings are used for raw values, the implicit value for each case is the text of that case’s name.

[...]

enum CompassPoint : String {
    case north, south, east, west
}

In the example above, CompassPoint.south has an implicit raw value of "south", and so on.

You access the raw value of an enumeration case with its rawValue property:

let sunsetDirection = CompassPoint.west.rawValue
// sunsetDirection is "west"

What are 'get' and 'set' in Swift?

variable declares and call like this in a class

class X {
    var x: Int = 3

}
var y = X()
print("value of x is: ", y.x)

//value of x is:  3

now you want to program to make the default value of x more than or equal to 3. Now take the hypothetical case if x is less than 3, your program will fail. so, you want people to either put 3 or more than 3. Swift got it easy for you and it is important to understand this bit-advance way of dating the variable value because they will extensively use in iOS development. Now let's see how get and set will be used here.

class X {
    var _x: Int = 3
    var x: Int {
        get {
            return _x
        }
        set(newVal) {  //set always take 1 argument
            if newVal >= 3 {
             _x = newVal //updating _x with the input value by the user
            print("new value is: ", _x)
            }
            else {
                print("error must be greater than 3")
            }
        }
    }
}
let y = X()
y.x = 1
print(y.x) //error must be greater than 3
y.x = 8 // //new value is: 8

if you still have doubts, just remember, the use of get and set is to update any variable the way we want it to be updated. get and set will give you better control to rule your logic. Powerful tool hence not easily understandable.

What exactly does the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header do?

By default, CORS does not include cookies on cross-origin requests. This is different from other cross-origin techniques such as JSON-P. JSON-P always includes cookies with the request, and this behavior can lead to a class of vulnerabilities called cross-site request forgery, or CSRF.

In order to reduce the chance of CSRF vulnerabilities in CORS, CORS requires both the server and the client to acknowledge that it is ok to include cookies on requests. Doing this makes cookies an active decision, rather than something that happens passively without any control.

The client code must set the withCredentials property on the XMLHttpRequest to true in order to give permission.

However, this header alone is not enough. The server must respond with the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header. Responding with this header to true means that the server allows cookies (or other user credentials) to be included on cross-origin requests.

You also need to make sure your browser isn't blocking third-party cookies if you want cross-origin credentialed requests to work.

Note that regardless of whether you are making same-origin or cross-origin requests, you need to protect your site from CSRF (especially if your request includes cookies).

Changing navigation bar color in Swift

My two cents:

a) setting navigationBar.barTintColor / titleTextAttributes do work in any view (pushed, added..and so on in init..

b) setting appearence does not work everywhere:

  • You can call it on AppDelegate
  • " " 1st level view
  • if You call it again in subsequent pushed views, does MNOT work

SwiftUI note:

a) does not apply (no navigationBar, unless you pass via UIViewControllerRepresentable trick..) b) is valid for SwiftUI: same behaviour.

Multiple -and -or in PowerShell Where-Object statement

By wrapping your comparisons in {} in your first example you are creating ScriptBlocks; so the PowerShell interpreter views it as Where-Object { <ScriptBlock> -and <ScriptBlock> }. Since the -and operator operates on boolean values, PowerShell casts the ScriptBlocks to boolean values. In PowerShell anything that is not empty, zero or null is true. The statement then looks like Where-Object { $true -and $true } which is always true.

Instead of using {}, use parentheses ().

Also you want to use -eq instead of -match since match uses regex and will be true if the pattern is found anywhere in the string (try: 'xlsx' -match 'xls').

Invoke-Command -computername SERVERNAME {
    Get-ChildItem -path E:\dfsroots\datastore2\public |
        Where-Object {($_.extension -eq ".xls" -or $_.extension -eq ".xlk") -and ($_.creationtime -ge "06/01/2014")}
}

A better option is to filter the extensions at the Get-ChildItem command.

Invoke-Command -computername SERVERNAME {
    Get-ChildItem -path E:\dfsroots\datastore2\public\* -Include *.xls, *.xlk |
        Where-Object {$_.creationtime -ge "06/01/2014"}
}

Tomcat - maxThreads vs maxConnections

From Tomcat documentation, For blocking I/O (BIO), the default value of maxConnections is the value of maxThreads unless Executor (thread pool) is used in which case, the value of 'maxThreads' from Executor will be used instead. For Non-blocking IO, it doesn't seem to be dependent on maxThreads.

Python mock multiple return values

You can assign an iterable to side_effect, and the mock will return the next value in the sequence each time it is called:

>>> from unittest.mock import Mock
>>> m = Mock()
>>> m.side_effect = ['foo', 'bar', 'baz']
>>> m()
'foo'
>>> m()
'bar'
>>> m()
'baz'

Quoting the Mock() documentation:

If side_effect is an iterable then each call to the mock will return the next value from the iterable.

How to encode a URL in Swift

URLQueryAllowedCharacterSet should not be used for URL encoding of query parameters because this charset includes &, ?, / etc. which serve as delimiters in a URL query, e.g.

/?paramname=paramvalue&paramname=paramvalue

These characters are allowed in URL queries as a whole but not in parameter values.

RFC 3986 specifically talks about unreserved characters, which are different from allowed:

2.3. Unreserved Characters

Characters that are allowed in a URI but do not have a reserved
purpose are called unreserved. These include uppercase and lowercase letters, decimal digits, hyphen, period, underscore, and tilde.

  unreserved  = ALPHA / DIGIT / "-" / "." / "_" / "~"

Accordingly:

extension String {
    var URLEncoded:String {
        var URLEncoded:String {
    let unreservedChars = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789-._~"
    let unreservedCharsSet: CharacterSet = CharacterSet(charactersIn: unreservedChars)
    let encodedString = self.addingPercentEncoding(withAllowedCharacters: unreservedCharsSet)!
    return encodedString
}
    }
}

The code above doesn't make a call to alphanumericCharacterSet because of the enormous size of the charset it returns (103806 characters). And in view of how many Unicode characters alphanumericCharacterSet allows for, using it for the purpose of URL encoding would be simply erroneous.

Usage:

let URLEncodedString = myString.URLEncoded

addEventListener, "change" and option selection

The problem is that you used the select option, this is where you went wrong. Select signifies that a textbox or textArea has a focus. What you need to do is use change. "Fires when a new choice is made in a select element", also used like blur when moving away from a textbox or textArea.

function start(){
      document.getElementById("activitySelector").addEventListener("change", addActivityItem, false);
      }

function addActivityItem(){
      //option is selected
      alert("yeah");
}

window.addEventListener("load", start, false);

Pass multiple complex objects to a post/put Web API method

Here I found a workaround to pass multiple generic objects (as json) from jquery to a WEB API using JObject, and then cast back to your required specific object type in api controller. This objects provides a concrete type specifically designed for working with JSON.

var combinedObj = {};
combinedObj["obj1"] = [your json object 1];
combinedObj["obj2"] = [your json object 2];

$http({
       method: 'POST',
       url: 'api/PostGenericObjects/',
       data: JSON.stringify(combinedObj)
    }).then(function successCallback(response) {
         // this callback will be called asynchronously
         // when the response is available
         alert("Saved Successfully !!!");
    }, function errorCallback(response) {
         // called asynchronously if an error occurs
         // or server returns response with an error status.
         alert("Error : " + response.data.ExceptionMessage);
});

and then you can get this object in your controller

using Newtonsoft.Json;
using Newtonsoft.Json.Linq;

public [OBJECT] PostGenericObjects(object obj)
    {
        string[] str = GeneralMethods.UnWrapObjects(obj);
        var item1 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType1>(str[0]);
        var item2 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType2>(str[1]);

        return *something*;
    }

I have made a generic function to unwrap the complex object, so there is no limitation of number of objects while sending and unwrapping. We can even send more than two objects

public class GeneralMethods
{
    public static string[] UnWrapObjects(object obj)
    {
        JObject o = JObject.Parse(obj.ToString());

        string[] str = new string[o.Count];

        for (int i = 0; i < o.Count; i++)
        {
            string var = "obj" + (i + 1).ToString();
            str[i] = o[var].ToString();
        }

        return str;
    }

}

I have posted the solution to my blog with a little more description with simpler code to integrate easily.

Pass multiple complex objects to Web API

I hope it would help someone. I would be interested to hear from the experts here regarding the pros and cons of using this methodology.

Using onBlur with JSX and React

There are a few problems here.

1: onBlur expects a callback, and you are calling renderPasswordConfirmError and using the return value, which is null.

2: you need a place to render the error.

3: you need a flag to track "and I validating", which you would set to true on blur. You can set this to false on focus if you want, depending on your desired behavior.

handleBlur: function () {
  this.setState({validating: true});
},
render: function () {
  return <div>
    ...
    <input
        type="password"
        placeholder="Password (confirm)"
        valueLink={this.linkState('password2')}
        onBlur={this.handleBlur}
     />
    ...
    {this.renderPasswordConfirmError()}
  </div>
},
renderPasswordConfirmError: function() {
  if (this.state.validating && this.state.password !== this.state.password2) {
    return (
      <div>
        <label className="error">Please enter the same password again.</label>
      </div>
    );
  }
  return null;
},
