Actually, you can save you picture at any place. If you want to save in a public space, so any other application can access, use this code:
storageDir = new File(
Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(
Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES
),
getAlbumName()
);
The picture doesn't go to the album. To do this, you need to call a scan:
private void galleryAddPic() {
Intent mediaScanIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE);
File f = new File(mCurrentPhotoPath);
Uri contentUri = Uri.fromFile(f);
mediaScanIntent.setData(contentUri);
