Python Graph Library

I would like to plug my own graph python library: graph-tool.

It is very fast, since it is implemented in C++ with the Boost Graph Library, and it contains lots of algorithms and extensive documentation.

java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 1

See the link below for information about how to use PreparedStatement. I have also quoted from the link.

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/jdbc/basics/prepared.html

You must supply values in place of the question mark placeholders (if there are any) before you can execute a PreparedStatement object. Do this by calling one of the setter methods defined in the PreparedStatement class. The following statements supply the two question mark placeholders in the PreparedStatement named updateSales:

updateSales.setInt(1, e.getValue().intValue()); updateSales.setString(2, e.getKey());

Compress images on client side before uploading

I read about an experiment here: http://webreflection.blogspot.com/2010/12/100-client-side-image-resizing.html

The theory is that you can use canvas to resize the images on the client before uploading. The prototype example seems to work only in recent browsers, interesting idea though...

However, I’m not sure about using canvas to compress images, but you can certainly resize them.

Visual Studio Code: How to show line endings

AFAIK there is no way to visually see line endings in the editor space, but in the bottom-right corner of the window there is an indicator that says "CLRF" or "LF" which will let you set the line endings for a particular file. Clicking on the text will allow you to change the line endings as well.

Is `shouldOverrideUrlLoading` really deprecated? What can I use instead?

Documenting in detail for future readers:

The short answer is you need to override both the methods. The shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) method is deprecated in API 24 and the shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, WebResourceRequest request) method is added in API 24. If you are targeting older versions of android, you need the former method, and if you are targeting 24 (or later, if someone is reading this in distant future) it's advisable to override the latter method as well.

The below is the skeleton on how you would accomplish this:

class CustomWebViewClient extends WebViewClient {

    @SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
    @Override
    public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
        final Uri uri = Uri.parse(url);
        return handleUri(uri);
    }

    @TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.N)
    @Override
    public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, WebResourceRequest request) {
        final Uri uri = request.getUrl();
        return handleUri(uri);
    }

    private boolean handleUri(final Uri uri) {
        Log.i(TAG, "Uri =" + uri);
        final String host = uri.getHost();
        final String scheme = uri.getScheme();
        // Based on some condition you need to determine if you are going to load the url
        // in your web view itself or in a browser.
        // You can use `host` or `scheme` or any part of the `uri` to decide.
        if (/* any condition */) {
            // Returning false means that you are going to load this url in the webView itself
            return false;
        } else {
            // Returning true means that you need to handle what to do with the url
            // e.g. open web page in a Browser
            final Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri);
            startActivity(intent);
            return true;
        }
    }
}

Just like shouldOverrideUrlLoading, you can come up with a similar approach for shouldInterceptRequest method.

How can I make a div not larger than its contents?

I would just set padding: -whateverYouWantpx;

How to redirect to logon page when session State time out is completed in asp.net mvc

One way is that In case of Session Expire, in every action you have to check its session and if it is null then redirect to Login page.

But this is very hectic method To over come this you need to create your own ActionFilterAttribute which will do this, you just need to add this attribute in every action method.

Here is the Class which overrides ActionFilterAttribute.

public class SessionExpireFilterAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute
    {
        public override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext)
        {
            HttpContext ctx = HttpContext.Current;

            // check if session is supported
            CurrentCustomer objCurrentCustomer = new CurrentCustomer();
            objCurrentCustomer = ((CurrentCustomer)SessionStore.GetSessionValue(SessionStore.Customer));
            if (objCurrentCustomer == null)
            {
                // check if a new session id was generated
                filterContext.Result = new RedirectResult("~/Users/Login");
                return;
            }

            base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext);
        }
    }

Then in action just add this attribute like so:

[SessionExpire]
public ActionResult Index()
{
     return Index();
}

This will do you work.

Vue js error: Component template should contain exactly one root element

if, for any reasons, you don't want to add a wrapper (in my first case it was for <tr/> components), you can use a functionnal component.

Instead of having a single components/MyCompo.vue you will have few files in a components/MyCompo folder :

  • components/MyCompo/index.js
  • components/MyCompo/File.vue
  • components/MyCompo/Avatar.vue

With this structure, the way you call your component won't change.

components/MyCompo/index.js file content :

import File from './File';
import Avatar from './Avatar';

const commonSort=(a,b)=>b-a;

export default {
  functional: true,
  name: 'MyCompo',
  props: [ 'someProp', 'plopProp' ],
  render(createElement, context) {
    return [
        createElement( File, { props: Object.assign({light: true, sort: commonSort},context.props) } ),
        createElement( Avatar, { props: Object.assign({light: false, sort: commonSort},context.props) } )
    ];
  }
};

And if you have some function or data used in both templates, passed them as properties and that's it !

I let you imagine building list of components and so much features with this pattern.

Git branching: master vs. origin/master vs. remotes/origin/master

Take a clone of a remote repository and run git branch -a (to show all the branches git knows about). It will probably look something like this:

* master
  remotes/origin/HEAD -> origin/master
  remotes/origin/master

Here, master is a branch in the local repository. remotes/origin/master is a branch named master on the remote named origin. You can refer to this as either origin/master, as in:

git diff origin/master..master

You can also refer to it as remotes/origin/master:

git diff remotes/origin/master..master

These are just two different ways of referring to the same thing (incidentally, both of these commands mean "show me the changes between the remote master branch and my master branch).

remotes/origin/HEAD is the default branch for the remote named origin. This lets you simply say origin instead of origin/master.

bootstrap 3 - how do I place the brand in the center of the navbar?

I used two classes to achieve this and maintain responsiveness navbar-brand-left and navbar-brand-center. Keep in mind it utilises Sass / Less Bootstrap for line height, otherwise specify a hardcode px / rem height.

Java substring: 'string index out of range'

I"m guessing i'm getting this error because the string is trying to substring a Null value. But wouldn't the ".length() > 0" part eliminate that issue?

No, calling itemdescription.length() when itemdescription is null would not generate a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException, but rather a NullPointerException since you would essentially be trying to call a method on null.

As others have indicated, StringIndexOutOfBoundsException indicates that itemdescription is not at least 38 characters long. You probably want to handle both conditions (I assuming you want to truncate):

final String value;
if (itemdescription == null || itemdescription.length() <= 0) {
    value = "_";
} else if (itemdescription.length() <= 38) {
    value = itemdescription;
} else {
    value = itemdescription.substring(0, 38);
}
pstmt2.setString(3, value);

Might be a good place for a utility function if you do that a lot...

Get exit code of a background process

Another solution is to monitor processes via the proc filesystem (safer than ps/grep combo); when you start a process it has a corresponding folder in /proc/$pid, so the solution could be

#!/bin/bash
....
doSomething &
local pid=$!
while [ -d /proc/$pid ]; do # While directory exists, the process is running
    doSomethingElse
    ....
else # when directory is removed from /proc, process has ended
    wait $pid
    local exit_status=$?
done
....

Now you can use the $exit_status variable however you like.

Checking for the correct number of arguments

#!/bin/sh
if [ "$#" -ne 1 ] || ! [ -d "$1" ]; then
  echo "Usage: $0 DIRECTORY" >&2
  exit 1
fi

Translation: If number of arguments is not (numerically) equal to 1 or the first argument is not a directory, output usage to stderr and exit with a failure status code.

More friendly error reporting:

#!/bin/sh
if [ "$#" -ne 1 ]; then
  echo "Usage: $0 DIRECTORY" >&2
  exit 1
fi
if ! [ -e "$1" ]; then
  echo "$1 not found" >&2
  exit 1
fi
if ! [ -d "$1" ]; then
  echo "$1 not a directory" >&2
  exit 1
fi

How to restart tomcat 6 in ubuntu

if you are using extracted tomcat then,

startup.sh and shutdown.sh are two script located in TOMCAT/bin/ to start and shutdown tomcat, You could use that

if tomcat is installed then

/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start
/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 stop
/etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 restart

Sorting std::map using value

You can't sort a std::map this way, because a the entries in the map are sorted by the key. If you want to sort by value, you need to create a new std::map with swapped key and value.

map<long, double> testMap;
map<double, long> testMap2;

// Insert values from testMap to testMap2
// The values in testMap2 are sorted by the double value

Remember that the double keys need to be unique in testMap2 or use std::multimap.

How do I add images in laravel view?

normaly is better image store in public folder (because it has write permission already that you can use when I upload images to it)

How to get IntPtr from byte[] in C#

Marshal.Copy works but is rather slow. Faster is to copy the bytes in a for loop. Even faster is to cast the byte array to a ulong array, copy as much ulong as fits in the byte array, then copy the possible remaining 7 bytes (the trail that is not 8 bytes aligned). Fastest is to pin the byte array in a fixed statement as proposed above in Tyalis' answer.

Jenkins Host key verification failed

Had same problem, i fix it like that :

reset permission on id_rsa* only for current user no group no other

chmod o-rwx ~/.ssh/id*
chmod G-rwx ~/.ssh/id*

ls -lart ~/.ssh/

-rw-------  1 jenkins nogroup  398 avril  3 09:34 id_rsa.pub
-rw-------  1 jenkins nogroup 1675 avril  3 09:34 id_rsa

And clear ~/.ssh/know_hosts

Now Connect as jenkins

sudo su jenkins

Try the jenkins commands

git ls-remote -h [email protected]:user/project.git HEAD

If no problem appears, now jenkins will be able to connect the repo (for me ^^ at least)

Add Expires headers

You can add them in your htaccess file or vhost configuration.

How to access a dictionary element in a Django template?

Similar to the answer by @russian_spy :

<ul>
{% for choice in choices.items %}
  <li>{{choice.0}} - {{choice.1}}</li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>

This might be suitable for breaking down more complex dictionaries.

how can I Update top 100 records in sql server

Try:

UPDATE Dispatch_Post
SET isSync = 1
WHERE ChallanNo
IN (SELECT TOP 1000 ChallanNo FROM dbo.Dispatch_Post ORDER BY
CreatedDate DESC)

What are NR and FNR and what does "NR==FNR" imply?

In awk, FNR refers to the record number (typically the line number) in the current file and NR refers to the total record number. The operator == is a comparison operator, which returns true when the two surrounding operands are equal.

This means that the condition NR==FNR is only true for the first file, as FNR resets back to 1 for the first line of each file but NR keeps on increasing.

This pattern is typically used to perform actions on only the first file. The next inside the block means any further commands are skipped, so they are only run on files other than the first.

The condition FNR==NR compares the same two operands as NR==FNR, so it behaves in the same way.

Run reg command in cmd (bat file)?

You could also just create a Group Policy Preference and have it create the reg key for you. (no scripting involved)

How to quickly check if folder is empty (.NET)?

If you don't mind leaving pure C# and going for WinApi calls, then you might want to consider the PathIsDirectoryEmpty() function. According to the MSDN, the function:

Returns TRUE if pszPath is an empty directory. Returns FALSE if pszPath is not a directory, or if it contains at least one file other than "." or "..".

That seems to be a function which does exactly what you want, so it is probably well optimised for that task (although I haven't tested that).

To call it from C#, the pinvoke.net site should help you. (Unfortunately, it doesn't describe this certain function yet, but you should be able to find some functions with similar arguments and return type there and use them as the basis for your call. If you look again into the MSDN, it says that the DLL to import from is shlwapi.dll)

What is the default username and password in Tomcat?

Go to "%TOMCAT_FOLDER%/conf/tomcat-users.xml" and configure the following :

<tomcat-users>
    <role rolename="manager-gui"/>
    <role rolename="manager-script"/>
    <role rolename="manager-jmx"/>
    <role rolename="manager-status"/>
    <role rolename="admin"/>
    <user username="admin" password="admin" roles="admin,manager-gui,manager-script"/>
</tomcat-users>

Hence, the username is "admin" and password is "admin"

Converting a SimpleXML Object to an Array

I found this in the PHP manual comments:

 */
function xml2array ( $xmlObject, $out = array () )
{
    foreach ( (array) $xmlObject as $index => $node )
        $out[$index] = ( is_object ( $node ) ) ? xml2array ( $node ) : $node;

    return $out;
}

It could help you. However, if you convert XML to an array you will loose all attributes that might be present, so you cannot go back to XML and get the same XML.

JavaScript Array splice vs slice

splice() changes the original array whereas slice() doesn't but both of them returns array object.

See the examples below:

var array=[1,2,3,4,5];
console.log(array.splice(2));

This will return [3,4,5]. The original array is affected resulting in array being [1,2].

var array=[1,2,3,4,5]
console.log(array.slice(2));

This will return [3,4,5]. The original array is NOT affected with resulting in array being [1,2,3,4,5].

Below is simple fiddle which confirms this:

How to have an auto incrementing version number (Visual Studio)?

Use AssemblyInfo.cs

Create the file in App_Code: and fill out the following or use Google for other attribute/property possibilities.

AssemblyInfo.cs

using System.Reflection;

[assembly: AssemblyDescription("Very useful stuff here.")]
[assembly: AssemblyCompany("companyname")]
[assembly: AssemblyCopyright("Copyright © me 2009")]
[assembly: AssemblyProduct("NeatProduct")]
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.1.*")]

AssemblyVersion being the part you are really after.

Then if you are working on a website, in any aspx page, or control, you can add in the <Page> tag, the following:

CompilerOptions="<folderpath>\App_Code\AssemblyInfo.cs"

(replacing folderpath with appropriate variable of course).

I don't believe you need to add compiler options in any manner for other classes; all the ones in the App_Code should receive the version information when they are compiled.

Hope that helps.

How can I have same rule for two locations in NGINX config?

Both the regex and included files are good methods, and I frequently use those. But another alternative is to use a "named location", which is a useful approach in many situations — especially more complicated ones. The official "If is Evil" page shows essentially the following as a good way to do things:

error_page 418 = @common_location;
location /first/location/ {
    return 418;
}
location /second/location/ {
    return 418;
}
location @common_location {
    # The common configuration...
}

There are advantages and disadvantages to these various approaches. One big advantage to a regex is that you can capture parts of the match and use them to modify the response. Of course, you can usually achieve similar results with the other approaches by either setting a variable in the original block or using map. The downside of the regex approach is that it can get unwieldy if you want to match a variety of locations, plus the low precedence of a regex might just not fit with how you want to match locations — not to mention that there are apparently performance impacts from regexes in some cases.

The main advantage of including files (as far as I can tell) is that it is a little more flexible about exactly what you can include — it doesn't have to be a full location block, for example. But it's also just subjectively a bit clunkier than named locations.

Also note that there is a related solution that you may be able to use in similar situations: nested locations. The idea is that you would start with a very general location, apply some configuration common to several of the possible matches, and then have separate nested locations for the different types of paths that you want to match. For example, it might be useful to do something like this:

location /specialpages/ {
    # some config
    location /specialpages/static/ {
        try_files $uri $uri/ =404;
    }
    location /specialpages/dynamic/ {
        proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1;
    }
}

Using the slash character in Git branch name

It is possible to have hierarchical branch names (branch names with slash). For example in my repository I have such branch(es). One caveat is that you can't have both branch 'foo' and branch 'foo/bar' in repository.

Your problem is not with creating branch with slash in name.

$ git branch foo/bar
error: unable to resolve reference refs/heads/labs/feature: Not a directory
fatal: Failed to lock ref for update: Not a directory

The above error message talks about 'labs/feature' branch, not 'foo/bar' (unless it is a mistake in copy'n'paste, i.e you edited parts of session). What is the result of git branch or git rev-parse --symbolic-full-name HEAD?

What is the opposite of :hover (on mouse leave)?

Making heatmap from pandas DataFrame

For people looking at this today, I would recommend the Seaborn heatmap() as documented here.

The example above would be done as follows:

import numpy as np
from pandas import DataFrame
import seaborn as sns
%matplotlib inline

Index= ['aaa', 'bbb', 'ccc', 'ddd', 'eee']
Cols = ['A', 'B', 'C', 'D']
df = DataFrame(abs(np.random.randn(5, 4)), index=Index, columns=Cols)

sns.heatmap(df, annot=True)

Where %matplotlib is an IPython magic function for those unfamiliar.

Key hash for Android-Facebook app

  • download openSSL for windows in here you can find 64bit and 32bit here

  • extract the downloaded file

  • create folder name openSSL in C drive
  • copy all the extracted items in to openSSL folder (bin,include,lib,openssl.cnf)
  • get android debug keystore, default location will be

C:\Users\username\.android\debug.keystore

  • now get your command prompt and paste this code

keytool -exportcert -alias androiddebugkey -keystore C:\Users\username.android\debug.keystore | "C:\openSSL\bin\openssl" sha1 -binary | "C:\openSSL\bin\openssl" base64

  • hit enter and you will get the 28 digit keycode

Check if at least two out of three booleans are true

The simplest form using ternary operators to solve the problem is:

return a ? (b ? true : c) : (b ? c : false);

You may also want to invest finding a solution by using double negation of the requirement, meaning to say, instead of at least two true values, you need to satisfy the condition at most one false value.

Missing XML comment for publicly visible type or member

There is another way you can suppress these messages without the need for any code change or pragma blocks. Using Visual Studio - Go to project properties > Build > Errors and Warnings > Suppress Warnings - append 1591 to list of warning codes.

git ahead/behind info between master and branch?

You can also use awk to make it a little bit prettier:

git rev-list --left-right --count  origin/develop...feature-branch | awk '{print "Behind "$1" - Ahead "$2""}'

You can even make an alias that always fetches origin first and then compares the branches

commit-diff = !"git fetch &> /dev/null && git rev-list --left-right --count"

HttpServlet cannot be resolved to a type .... is this a bug in eclipse?

I faced the same problem in eclipse with tomcat7 with the error javax.servlet cannot be resolved. If I select the server in targeted runtime mode and build project again, the error get's resolved.

JSLint is suddenly reporting: Use the function form of "use strict"

Include 'use strict'; as the first statement in a wrapping function, so it only affects that function. This prevents problems when concatenating scripts that aren't strict.

See Douglas Crockford's latest blog post Strict Mode Is Coming To Town.

Example from that post:

(function () {
   'use strict';
   // this function is strict...
}());

(function () {
   // but this function is sloppy...
}());

Update: In case you don't want to wrap in immediate function (e.g. it is a node module), then you can disable the warning.

For JSLint (per Zhami):

/*jslint node: true */

For JSHint:

/*jshint strict:false */

or (per Laith Shadeed)

Dialog with transparent background in Android

Make sure R.layout.themechanger has no background color because by default the dialog has a default background color.

You also need to add dialog.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(newColorDrawable(Color.TRANSPARENT));

How can I generate random alphanumeric strings?

I heard LINQ is the new black, so here's my attempt using LINQ:

private static Random random = new Random();
public static string RandomString(int length)
{
    const string chars = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789";
    return new string(Enumerable.Repeat(chars, length)
      .Select(s => s[random.Next(s.Length)]).ToArray());
}

(Note: The use of the Random class makes this unsuitable for anything security related, such as creating passwords or tokens. Use the RNGCryptoServiceProvider class if you need a strong random number generator.)

How to add element to C++ array?

You can use a variable to count places in the array, so when ever you add a new element, you put it in the right place. For example:

int a = 0;
int arr[5] = { };
arr[a] = 6;
a++;

How to generate the "create table" sql statement for an existing table in postgreSQL

My solution is to log in to the postgres db using psql with the -E option as follows:

psql -E -U username -d database

In psql, run the following commands to see the sql that postgres uses to generate
the describe table statement:

-- List all tables in the schema (my example schema name is public)
\dt public.*
-- Choose a table name from above
-- For create table of one public.tablename
\d+ public.tablename

Based on the sql echoed out after running these describe commands, I was able to put together
the following plpgsql function:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION generate_create_table_statement(p_table_name varchar)
  RETURNS text AS
$BODY$
DECLARE
    v_table_ddl   text;
    column_record record;

What are the differences between 'call-template' and 'apply-templates' in XSL?

xsl:apply-templates is usually (but not necessarily) used to process all or a subset of children of the current node with all applicable templates. This supports the recursiveness of XSLT application which is matching the (possible) recursiveness of the processed XML.

xsl:call-template on the other hand is much more like a normal function call. You execute exactly one (named) template, usually with one or more parameters.

So I use xsl:apply-templates if I want to intercept the processing of an interesting node and (usually) inject something into the output stream. A typical (simplified) example would be

<xsl:template match="foo">
  <bar>
    <xsl:apply-templates/>
  </bar>
</xsl:template>

whereas with xsl:call-template I typically solve problems like adding the text of some subnodes together, transforming select nodesets into text or other nodesets and the like - anything you would write a specialized, reusable function for.

Edit:

As an additional remark to your specific question text:

<xsl:call-template name="nodes"/>

This calls a template which is named 'nodes':

    <xsl:template name="nodes">...</xsl:template>

This is a different semantic than:

<xsl:apply-templates select="nodes"/>

...which applies all templates to all children of your current XML node whose name is 'nodes'.

How do I position a div relative to the mouse pointer using jQuery?

There are plenty of examples of using JQuery to retrieve the mouse coordinates, but none fixed my issue.

The Body of my webpage is 1000 pixels wide, and I centre it in the middle of the user's browser window.

body {
    position:absolute;
    width:1000px;
    left: 50%;
    margin-left:-500px;
}

Now, in my JavaScript code, when the user right-clicked on my page, I wanted a div to appear at the mouse position.

Problem is, just using e.pageX value wasn't quite right. It'd work fine if I resized my browser window to be about 1000 pixels wide. Then, the pop div would appear at the correct position.

But if increased the size of my browser window to, say, 1200 pixels wide, then the div would appear about 100 pixels to the right of where the user had clicked.

The solution is to combine e.pageX with the bounding rectangle of the body element. When the user changes the size of their browser window, the "left" value of body element changes, and we need to take this into account:

// Temporary variables to hold the mouse x and y position
var tempX = 0;
var tempY = 0;

jQuery(document).ready(function () {
    $(document).mousemove(function (e) {
        var bodyOffsets = document.body.getBoundingClientRect();
        tempX = e.pageX - bodyOffsets.left;
        tempY = e.pageY;
    });
})

Phew. That took me a while to fix ! I hope this is useful to other developers !

jQuery OR Selector?

Using a comma may not be sufficient if you have multiple jQuery objects that need to be joined.

The .add() method adds the selected elements to the result set:

// classA OR classB
jQuery('.classA').add('.classB');

It's more verbose than '.classA, .classB', but lets you build more complex selectors like the following:

// (classA which has <p> descendant) OR (<div> ancestors of classB)
jQuery('.classA').has('p').add(jQuery('.classB').parents('div'));

HTML/CSS Making a textbox with text that is grayed out, and disappears when I click to enter info, how?

If you're targeting HTML5 only you can use:

<input type="text" id="firstname" placeholder="First Name:" />

For non HTML5 browsers, I would build upon Floern's answer by using jQuery and make the javascript non-obtrusive. I would also use a class to define the blurred properties.

$(document).ready(function () {

    //Set the initial blur (unless its highlighted by default)
    inputBlur($('#Comments'));

    $('#Comments').blur(function () {
        inputBlur(this);
    });
    $('#Comments').focus(function () {
        inputFocus(this);
    });

})

Functions:

function inputFocus(i) {
    if (i.value == i.defaultValue) {
        i.value = "";
        $(i).removeClass("blurredDefaultText");
    }
}
function inputBlur(i) {
    if (i.value == "" || i.value == i.defaultValue) {
        i.value = i.defaultValue;
        $(i).addClass("blurredDefaultText");
    }
}

CSS:

.blurredDefaultText {
    color:#888 !important;
}

Property 'catch' does not exist on type 'Observable<any>'

Warning: This solution is deprecated since Angular 5.5, please refer to Trent's answer below

=====================

Yes, you need to import the operator:

import 'rxjs/add/operator/catch';

Or import Observable this way:

import {Observable} from 'rxjs/Rx';

But in this case, you import all operators.

WPF Application that only has a tray icon

I recently had this same problem. Unfortunately, NotifyIcon is only a Windows.Forms control at the moment, if you want to use it you are going to have to include that part of the framework. I guess that depends how much of a WPF purist you are.

If you want a quick and easy way of getting started check out this WPF NotifyIcon control on the Code Project which does not rely on the WinForms NotifyIcon at all. A more recent version seems to be available on the author's website and as a NuGet package. This seems like the best and cleanest way to me so far.

  • Rich ToolTips rather than text
  • WPF context menus and popups
  • Command support and routed events
  • Flexible data binding

Check it out. It comes with an amazing sample app too, very easy to use, and you can have great looking Windows Live Messenger style WPF popups, tooltips, and context menus. Perfect for displaying an RSS feed, I am using it for a similar purpose.

PHP is_numeric or preg_match 0-9 validation

Not exactly the same.

From the PHP docs of is_numeric:

'42' is numeric
'1337' is numeric
'1e4' is numeric
'not numeric' is NOT numeric
'Array' is NOT numeric
'9.1' is numeric

With your regex you only check for 'basic' numeric values.

Also is_numeric() should be faster.

Should I check in folder "node_modules" to Git when creating a Node.js app on Heroku?

Second Update

The FAQ is not available anymore.

From the documentation of shrinkwrap:

If you wish to lock down the specific bytes included in a package, for example to have 100% confidence in being able to reproduce a deployment or build, then you ought to check your dependencies into source control, or pursue some other mechanism that can verify contents rather than versions.

Shannon and Steven mentioned this before but I think, it should be part of the accepted answer.

Update

The source listed for the below recommendation has been updated. They are no longer recommending the node_modules folder be committed.

Usually, no. Allow npm to resolve dependencies for your packages.

For packages you deploy, such as websites and apps, you should use npm shrinkwrap to lock down your full dependency tree:

https://docs.npmjs.com/cli/shrinkwrap

Original Post

For reference, npm FAQ answers your question clearly:

Check node_modules into git for things you deploy, such as websites and apps. Do not check node_modules into git for libraries and modules intended to be reused. Use npm to manage dependencies in your dev environment, but not in your deployment scripts.

and for some good rationale for this, read Mikeal Rogers' post on this.

What is Dependency Injection?

Dependency Injection is the practice to make decoupled component agnostic from some of their dependencies, this follow the SOLID guideline that say

Dependency inversion principle: one should "depend upon abstractions, not concretions.

The better implementation of Dependency Injection is the Composition Root design pattern, as it's allow your components to be decoupled from the dependency injection container.

I recommand this great article on Composition Root http://blog.ploeh.dk/2011/07/28/CompositionRoot/ written by Mark Seemann

here is essential points from this article:

A Composition Root is a (preferably) unique location in an application where modules are composed together.

...

Only applications should have Composition Roots. Libraries and frameworks shouldn't.

...

A DI Container should only be referenced from the Composition Root. All other modules should have no reference to the container.

The documentation of Di-Ninja, a dependency injection framework, is a very good example to demonstrate how works the principles of Composition Root and Dependency Injection. https://github.com/di-ninja/di-ninja As I know, is the only one DiC in javascript that implement the Composition-Root design pattern.

Image UriSource and Data Binding

You can also simply set the Source attribute rather than using the child elements. To do this your class needs to return the image as a Bitmap Image. Here is an example of one way I've done it

<Image Width="90" Height="90"
       Source="{Binding Path=ImageSource}"
       Margin="0,0,0,5" />

And the class property is simply this

public object ImageSource {
    get {
        BitmapImage image = new BitmapImage();

        try {
            image.BeginInit();
            image.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad;
            image.CreateOptions = BitmapCreateOptions.IgnoreImageCache;
            image.UriSource = new Uri( FullPath, UriKind.Absolute );
            image.EndInit();
        }
        catch{
            return DependencyProperty.UnsetValue;
        }

        return image;
    }
}

I suppose it may be a little more work than the value converter, but it is another option.

Get the current first responder without using a private API

I have a slightly different approach than most. Rather than iterate through the collection of views looking for the one that has isFirstResponder set, I too send a message to nil, but I store the receiver of the message so I can return it and do whatever I wish with it.

import UIKit

private var _foundFirstResponder: UIResponder? = nil

extension UIResponder {

    static var first:UIResponder? {

        // Sending an action to 'nil' implicitly sends it to the first responder
        // where we simply capture it and place it in the _foundFirstResponder variable.
        // As such, the variable will contain the current first responder (if any) immediately after this line executes
        UIApplication.shared.sendAction(#selector(UIResponder.storeFirstResponder(_:)), to: nil, from: nil, for: nil)

        // The following 'defer' statement runs *after* this getter returns,
        // thus releasing any strong reference held by the variable immediately thereafter
        defer {
            _foundFirstResponder = nil
        }

        // Return the found first-responder (if any) back to the caller
        return _foundFirstResponder
    }

    @objc func storeFirstResponder(_ sender: AnyObject) {

        // Capture the recipient of this message (self), which is the first responder
        _foundFirstResponder = self
    }
}

With the above, I can resign the first responder by simply doing this...

UIResponder.first?.resignFirstResponder()

But since my API actually hands back whatever the first responder is, I can do whatever I want with it.

Here's an example that checks if the current first responder is a UITextField with a helpMessage property set, and if so, shows it in a help bubble right next to the control. We call this from a 'Quick Help' button on our screen.

func showQuickHelp(){

    if let textField = UIResponder?.first as? UITextField,
       let helpMessage = textField.helpMessage {

        textField.showHelpBubble(with:helpMessage)
    }
}

The support for the above is defined in an extension on UITextField like so...

extension UITextField {
    var helpMessage:String? { ... }
    func showHelpBubble(with message:String) { ... }
}

Now to support this feature, all we have to do is decide which text fields have help messages and the UI takes care of the rest for us.

Pick any kind of file via an Intent in Android

The other answers are not incorrect. However, now there are more options for opening files. For example, if you want the app to have long term, permanent acess to a file, you can use ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT instead. Refer to the official documentation: Open files using storage access framework. Also refer to this answer.

get keys of json-object in JavaScript

[What you have is just an object, not a "json-object". JSON is a textual notation. What you've quoted is JavaScript code using an array initializer and an object initializer (aka, "object literal syntax").]

If you can rely on having ECMAScript5 features available, you can use the Object.keys function to get an array of the keys (property names) in an object. All modern browsers have Object.keys (including IE9+).

Object.keys(jsonData).forEach(function(key) {
    var value = jsonData[key];
    // ...
});

The rest of this answer was written in 2011. In today's world, A) You don't need to polyfill this unless you need to support IE8 or earlier (!), and B) If you did, you wouldn't do it with a one-off you wrote yourself or grabbed from an SO answer (and probably shouldn't have in 2011, either). You'd use a curated polyfill, possibly from es5-shim or via a transpiler like Babel that can be configured to include polyfills (which may come from es5-shim).

Here's the rest of the answer from 2011:

Note that older browsers won't have it. If not, this is one of the ones you can supply yourself:

if (typeof Object.keys !== "function") {
    (function() {
        var hasOwn = Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty;
        Object.keys = Object_keys;
        function Object_keys(obj) {
            var keys = [], name;
            for (name in obj) {
                if (hasOwn.call(obj, name)) {
                    keys.push(name);
                }
            }
            return keys;
        }
    })();
}

That uses a for..in loop (more info here) to loop through all of the property names the object has, and uses Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty to check that the property is owned directly by the object rather than being inherited.

(I could have done it without the self-executing function, but I prefer my functions to have names, and to be compatible with IE you can't use named function expressions [well, not without great care]. So the self-executing function is there to avoid having the function declaration create a global symbol.)

Oracle row count of table by count(*) vs NUM_ROWS from DBA_TABLES

According to the documentation NUM_ROWS is the "Number of rows in the table", so I can see how this might be confusing. There, however, is a major difference between these two methods.

This query selects the number of rows in MY_TABLE from a system view. This is data that Oracle has previously collected and stored.

select num_rows from all_tables where table_name = 'MY_TABLE'

This query counts the current number of rows in MY_TABLE

select count(*) from my_table

By definition they are difference pieces of data. There are two additional pieces of information you need about NUM_ROWS.

  1. In the documentation there's an asterisk by the column name, which leads to this note:

    Columns marked with an asterisk (*) are populated only if you collect statistics on the table with the ANALYZE statement or the DBMS_STATS package.

    This means that unless you have gathered statistics on the table then this column will not have any data.

  2. Statistics gathered in 11g+ with the default estimate_percent, or with a 100% estimate, will return an accurate number for that point in time. But statistics gathered before 11g, or with a custom estimate_percent less than 100%, uses dynamic sampling and may be incorrect. If you gather 99.999% a single row may be missed, which in turn means that the answer you get is incorrect.

If your table is never updated then it is certainly possible to use ALL_TABLES.NUM_ROWS to find out the number of rows in a table. However, and it's a big however, if any process inserts or deletes rows from your table it will be at best a good approximation and depending on whether your database gathers statistics automatically could be horribly wrong.

Generally speaking, it is always better to actually count the number of rows in the table rather then relying on the system tables.

Disable mouse scroll wheel zoom on embedded Google Maps

Variations on a theme: a simple solution with jQuery, no CSS editing needed.

// make iframe active on click, disable on mouseleave
$('iframe.google_map').each( function(i, iframe) {
    $(iframe).parent().hover( // make inactive on hover
        function() { $(iframe).css('pointer-events', 'none');
    }).click( // activate on click
        function() { $(iframe).css('pointer-events', 'auto');
    }).trigger('mouseover'); // make it inactive by default as well
});

Hover listener is attached to the parent element, so if the current parent is bigger, you can just simply wrap the iframe with a div before the 3rd line.

Hope it'll be useful for somebody.

Why doesn't GCC optimize a*a*a*a*a*a to (a*a*a)*(a*a*a)?

Lambdageek correctly points out that because associativity does not hold for floating-point numbers, the "optimization" of a*a*a*a*a*a to (a*a*a)*(a*a*a) may change the value. This is why it is disallowed by C99 (unless specifically allowed by the user, via compiler flag or pragma). Generally, the assumption is that the programmer wrote what she did for a reason, and the compiler should respect that. If you want (a*a*a)*(a*a*a), write that.

That can be a pain to write, though; why can't the compiler just do [what you consider to be] the right thing when you use pow(a,6)? Because it would be the wrong thing to do. On a platform with a good math library, pow(a,6) is significantly more accurate than either a*a*a*a*a*a or (a*a*a)*(a*a*a). Just to provide some data, I ran a small experiment on my Mac Pro, measuring the worst error in evaluating a^6 for all single-precision floating numbers between [1,2):

worst relative error using    powf(a, 6.f): 5.96e-08
worst relative error using (a*a*a)*(a*a*a): 2.94e-07
worst relative error using a*a*a*a*a*a: 2.58e-07

Using pow instead of a multiplication tree reduces the error bound by a factor of 4. Compilers should not (and generally do not) make "optimizations" that increase error unless licensed to do so by the user (e.g. via -ffast-math).

Note that GCC provides __builtin_powi(x,n) as an alternative to pow( ), which should generate an inline multiplication tree. Use that if you want to trade off accuracy for performance, but do not want to enable fast-math.

multiple where condition codeigniter

it's late for this answer but i think maybe still can help, i try the both methods above, using two where conditions and the method with the array, none of those work for me i did several test and the condition was never getting executed, so i did a workaround, here is my code:

public function validateLogin($email, $password){
        $password = md5($password);
        $this->db->select("userID,email,password");
        $query = $this->db->get_where("users", array("email" => $email));
        $p = $query->row_array();

        if($query->num_rows() == 1 && $password == $p['password']){
            return $query->row();
        }

    }

How to tell Maven to disregard SSL errors (and trusting all certs)?

An alternative that worked for me is to tell Maven to use http: instead of https: when using Maven Central by adding the following to settings.xml:

<settings>
   .
   .
   .
  <mirrors>
    <mirror>
        <id>central-no-ssl</id>
        <name>Central without ssl</name>
        <url>http://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2</url>
        <mirrorOf>central</mirrorOf>
    </mirror>
  </mirrors>
   .
   .
   .
</settings>

Your mileage may vary of course.

How to tell whether a point is to the right or left side of a line

Here's a version, again using the cross product logic, written in Clojure.

(defn is-left? [line point]
  (let [[[x1 y1] [x2 y2]] (sort line)
        [x-pt y-pt] point]
    (> (* (- x2 x1) (- y-pt y1)) (* (- y2 y1) (- x-pt x1)))))

Example usage:

(is-left? [[-3 -1] [3 1]] [0 10])
true

Which is to say that the point (0, 10) is to the left of the line determined by (-3, -1) and (3, 1).

NOTE: This implementation solves a problem that none of the others (so far) does! Order matters when giving the points that determine the line. I.e., it's a "directed line", in a certain sense. So with the above code, this invocation also produces the result of true:

(is-left? [[3 1] [-3 -1]] [0 10])
true

That's because of this snippet of code:

(sort line)

Finally, as with the other cross product based solutions, this solution returns a boolean, and does not give a third result for collinearity. But it will give a result that makes sense, e.g.:

(is-left? [[1 1] [3 1]] [10 1])
false

Online SQL syntax checker conforming to multiple databases

I haven't ever seen such a thing, but there is this dev tool that includes a syntax checker for oracle, mysql, db2, and sql server... http://www.sqlparser.com/index.php

However this seems to be just the library. You'd need to build an app to leverage the parser to do what you want. And the Enterprise edition that includes all of the databases would cost you $450... ouch!

EDIT: And, after saying that - it looks like someone might already have done what you want using that library: http://www.wangz.net/cgi-bin/pp/gsqlparser/sqlpp/sqlformat.tpl

The online tool doesn't automatically check against each DB though, you need to run each manually. Nor can I say how good it is at checking the syntax. That you'd need to investigate yourself.

No, you cannot. Google Plus has been discontinued. Clicking any link for any answer here brings me to this text:

From all of us on the Google+ team,

thank you for making Google+ such a special place.

There is one section that reads that the product is continued for "G Suite," but as of Feb., 2020, the chat and social service listed for G Suite is Hangouts, not Google+.

The format https://plus.google.com/share?url=YOUR_URL_HERE was documented at https://developers.google.com/+/web/share/, but this documentation has since been removed, probably because no part of Google+ continues in development. How can I have two fixed width columns with one flexible column in the center?

Despite setting up dimensions for the columns, they still seem to shrink as the window shrinks.

An initial setting of a flex container is flex-shrink: 1. That's why your columns are shrinking.

It doesn't matter what width you specify (it could be width: 10000px), with flex-shrink the specified width can be ignored and flex items are prevented from overflowing the container.

I'm trying to set up a flexbox with 3 columns where the left and right columns have a fixed width...

You will need to disable shrinking. Here are some options:

.left, .right {
     width: 230px;
     flex-shrink: 0;
 }

OR

.left, .right {
     flex-basis: 230px;
     flex-shrink: 0;
}

OR, as recommended by the spec:

.left, .right {
    flex: 0 0 230px;    /* don't grow, don't shrink, stay fixed at 230px */
}

7.2. Components of Flexibility

Authors are encouraged to control flexibility using the flex shorthand rather than with its longhand properties directly, as the shorthand correctly resets any unspecified components to accommodate common uses.

More details here: What are the differences between flex-basis and width?

An additional thing I need to do is hide the right column based on user interaction, in which case the left column would still keep its fixed width, but the center column would fill the rest of the space.

Try this:

.center { flex: 1; }

This will allow the center column to consume available space, including the space of its siblings when they are removed.

What are the default color values for the Holo theme on Android 4.0?

If you want the default colors of Android ICS, you just have to go to your Android SDK and look for this path: platforms\android-15\data\res\values\colors.xml.

Here you go:

File URL "Not allowed to load local resource" in the Internet Browser

You will have to provide a link to your file that is accessible through the browser, that is for instance:

<a href="http://my.domain.com/Projecten/Protocollen/346/Uitvoeringsoverzicht.xls">

versus

<a href="C:/Projecten/Protocollen/346/Uitvoeringsoverzicht.xls">

If you expose your "Projecten" folder directly to the public, then you may only have to provide the link as such:

<a href="/Projecten/Protocollen/346/Uitvoeringsoverzicht.xls">

But beware, that your files can then be indexed by search engines, can be accessed by anybody having this link, etc.

Unsuccessful append to an empty NumPy array

SO thread 'Multiply two arrays element wise, where one of the arrays has arrays as elements' has an example of constructing an array from arrays. If the subarrays are the same size, numpy makes a 2d array. But if they differ in length, it makes an array with dtype=object, and the subarrays retain their identity.

Following that, you could do something like this:

In [5]: result=np.array([np.zeros((1)),np.zeros((2))])

In [6]: result
Out[6]: array([array([ 0.]), array([ 0.,  0.])], dtype=object)

In [7]: np.append([result[0]],[1,2])
Out[7]: array([ 0.,  1.,  2.])

In [8]: result[0]
Out[8]: array([ 0.])

In [9]: result[0]=np.append([result[0]],[1,2])

In [10]: result
Out[10]: array([array([ 0.,  1.,  2.]), array([ 0.,  0.])], dtype=object)

However, I don't offhand see what advantages this has over a pure Python list or lists. It does not work like a 2d array. For example I have to use result[0][1], not result[0,1]. If the subarrays are all the same length, I have to use np.array(result.tolist()) to produce a 2d array.

Accessing Objects in JSON Array (JavaScript)

You can loop the array with a for loop and the object properties with for-in loops.

for (var i=0; i<result.length; i++)
    for (var name in result[i]) {
        console.log("Item name: "+name);
        console.log("Source: "+result[i][name].sourceUuid);
        console.log("Target: "+result[i][name].targetUuid);
    }

Sleep for milliseconds

Why don't use time.h library? Runs on Windows and POSIX systems:

#include <iostream>
#include <time.h>

using namespace std;

void sleepcp(int milliseconds);

void sleepcp(int milliseconds) // Cross-platform sleep function
{
    clock_t time_end;
    time_end = clock() + milliseconds * CLOCKS_PER_SEC/1000;
    while (clock() < time_end)
    {
    }
}
int main()
{
    cout << "Hi! At the count to 3, I'll die! :)" << endl;
    sleepcp(3000);
    cout << "urrrrggghhhh!" << endl;
}

Corrected code - now CPU stays in IDLE state [2014.05.24]:

#include <iostream>
#ifdef _WIN32
    #include <windows.h>
#else
    #include <unistd.h>
#endif // _WIN32

using namespace std;

void sleepcp(int milliseconds);

void sleepcp(int milliseconds) // Cross-platform sleep function
{
    #ifdef _WIN32
        Sleep(milliseconds);
    #else
        usleep(milliseconds * 1000);
    #endif // _WIN32
}
int main()
{
    cout << "Hi! At the count to 3, I'll die! :)" << endl;
    sleepcp(3000);
    cout << "urrrrggghhhh!" << endl;
}

Deleting all pending tasks in celery / rabbitmq

1. To properly purge the queue of waiting tasks you have to stop all the workers (http://celery.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#i-ve-purged-messages-but-there-are-still-messages-left-in-the-queue):

$ sudo rabbitmqctl stop

or (in case RabbitMQ/message broker is managed by Supervisor):

$ sudo supervisorctl stop all

2. ...and then purge the tasks from a specific queue:

$ cd <source_dir>
$ celery amqp queue.purge <queue name>

3. Start RabbitMQ:

$ sudo rabbitmqctl start

or (in case RabbitMQ is managed by Supervisor):

$ sudo supervisorctl start all

Cannot change version of project facet Dynamic Web Module to 3.0?

For a maven eclipse web project, changing dynamic web module version needs to check three places. If one uses eclipse, and after you have checked the following: 1) web.xml

<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
         xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
         xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
          http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd"
    version="3.0">

2) maven:

<dependency>
      <groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
      <artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
      <version>3.0.1</version>
      <scope>provided</scope> ## ensure you have tomcat 7 not other version
</dependency>

<plugin>
      <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
      <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
      <version>3.0</version>
      <configuration>
            <source>1.7</source> ## at least 6
            <target>1.7</target>
      </configuration>
</plugin>

3) eclipse build path and compiler version is 1.7

you still have an error marker at maven:

cannot change version of project facet dynamic web module to 3.0 one or more constrants have not been satisfied

Then you can: uncheck the dynamic web module, and recheck it. I think it is because .settings of eclipse file is corrupted somehow. About the second tip tomcat which version is a good note.

What is an example of the simplest possible Socket.io example?

i realize this post is several years old now, but sometimes certified newbies such as myself need a working example that is totally stripped down to the absolute most simplest form.

every simple socket.io example i could find involved http.createServer(). but what if you want to include a bit of socket.io magic in an existing webpage? here is the absolute easiest and smallest example i could come up with.

this just returns a string passed from the console UPPERCASED.

app.js

var http = require('http');

var app = http.createServer(function(req, res) {
        console.log('createServer');
});
app.listen(3000);

var io = require('socket.io').listen(app);

io.on('connection', function(socket) {
    io.emit('Server 2 Client Message', 'Welcome!' );

    socket.on('Client 2 Server Message', function(message)      {
        console.log(message);
        io.emit('Server 2 Client Message', message.toUpperCase() );     //upcase it
    });

});

index.html:

<!doctype html>
<html>
    <head>
        <script type='text/javascript' src='http://localhost:3000/socket.io/socket.io.js'></script>
        <script type='text/javascript'>
                var socket = io.connect(':3000');
                 // optionally use io('http://localhost:3000');
                 // but make *SURE* it matches the jScript src
                socket.on ('Server 2 Client Message',
                     function(messageFromServer)       {
                        console.log ('server said: ' + messageFromServer);
                     });

        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <h5>Worlds smallest Socket.io example to uppercase strings</h5>
        <p>
        <a href='#' onClick="javascript:socket.emit('Client 2 Server Message', 'return UPPERCASED in the console');">return UPPERCASED in the console</a>
                <br />
                socket.emit('Client 2 Server Message', 'try cut/paste this command in your console!');
        </p>
    </body>
</html>

to run:

npm init;  // accept defaults
npm  install  socket.io  http  --save ;
node app.js  &

use something like this port test to ensure your port is open.

now browse to http://localhost/index.html and use your browser console to send messages back to the server.

at best guess, when using http.createServer, it changes the following two lines for you:

<script type='text/javascript' src='/socket.io/socket.io.js'></script>
var socket = io();

i hope this very simple example spares my fellow newbies some struggling. and please notice that i stayed away from using "reserved word" looking user-defined variable names for my socket definitions.

How do I print part of a rendered HTML page in JavaScript?

Along the same lines as some of the suggestions you would need to do at least the following:

  • Load some CSS dynamically through JavaScript
  • Craft some print-specific CSS rules
  • Apply your fancy CSS rules through JavaScript

An example CSS could be as simple as this:

@media print {
  body * {
    display:none;
  }

  body .printable {
    display:block;
  }
}

Your JavaScript would then only need to apply the "printable" class to your target div and it will be the only thing visible (as long as there are no other conflicting CSS rules -- a separate exercise) when printing happens.

<script type="text/javascript">
  function divPrint() {
    // Some logic determines which div should be printed...
    // This example uses div3.
    $("#div3").addClass("printable");
    window.print();
  }
</script>

You may want to optionally remove the class from the target after printing has occurred, and / or remove the dynamically-added CSS after printing has occurred.

Below is a full working example, the only difference is that the print CSS is not loaded dynamically. If you want it to really be unobtrusive then you will need to load the CSS dynamically like in this answer.

CSS background-image - What is the correct usage?

Have a look at the respective sitepoint reference pages for background-image and URIs

  2. Both relative and absolute is possible; a relative path is relative to the path of the css file.

How to store a datetime in MySQL with timezone info

MySQL stores DATETIME without timezone information. Let's say you store '2019-01-01 20:00:00' into a DATETIME field, when you retrieve that value you're expected to know what timezone it belongs to.

So in your case, when you store a value into a DATETIME field, make sure it is Tanzania time. Then when you get it out, it will be Tanzania time. Yay!

Now, the hairy question is: When I do an INSERT/UPDATE, how do I make sure the value is Tanzania time? Two cases:

  1. You do INSERT INTO table (dateCreated) VALUES (CURRENT_TIMESTAMP or NOW()).

  2. You do INSERT INTO table (dateCreated) VALUES (?), and specify the current time from your application code.

CASE #1

MySQL will take the current time, let's say that is '2019-01-01 20:00:00' Tanzania time. Then MySQL will convert it to UTC, which comes out to '2019-01-01 17:00:00', and store that value into the field.

So how do you get the Tanzania time, which is '20:00:00', to store into the field? It's not possible. Your code will need to expect UTC time when reading from this field.

CASE #2

It depends on what type of value you pass as ?. If you pass the string '2019-01-01 20:00:00', then good for you, that's exactly what will be stored to the DB. If you pass a Date object of some kind, then it'll depend on how the db driver interprets that Date object, and ultimate what 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss' string it provides to MySQL for storage. The db driver's documentation should tell you.

Weird behavior of the != XPath operator

The problem is that the 'and' is being treated as an 'or'.

No, the problem is that you are using the XPath != operator and you aren't aware of its "weird" semantics.

Solution:

Just replace the any x != y expressions with a not(x = y) expression.

In your specific case:

Replace:

<xsl:when test="$AccountNumber != '12345' and $Balance != '0'">

with:

<xsl:when test="not($AccountNumber = '12345') and not($Balance = '0')">

Explanation:

By definition whenever one of the operands of the != operator is a nodeset, then the result of evaluating this operator is true if there is a node in the node-set, whose value isn't equal to the other operand.

So:

 $someNodeSet != $someValue

generally doesn't produce the same result as:

 not($someNodeSet = $someValue)

The latter (by definition) is true exactly when there isn't a node in $someNodeSet whose string value is equal to $someValue.

Lesson to learn:

Never use the != operator, unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing.

React - How to pass HTML tags in props?

<MyComponent text={<span>This is <strong>not</strong> working.</span>} />

and then in your component you can do prop checking like so:

import React from 'react';
export default class MyComponent extends React.Component {
  static get propTypes() {
    return {
      text: React.PropTypes.object, // if you always want react components
      text: React.PropTypes.any, // if you want both text or react components
    }
  }
}

Make sure you choose only one prop type.

What is the @Html.DisplayFor syntax for?

After looking for an answer for myself for some time, i could find something. in general if we are using it for just one property it appears same even if we do a "View Source" of generated HTML Below is generated HTML for example, when i want to display only Name property for my class

    <td>
    myClassNameProperty
    </td>
   <td>
    myClassNameProperty, This is direct from Item
    </td>

This is the generated HTML from below code

<td>
@Html.DisplayFor(modelItem=>item.Genre.Name)
</td>

<td>
@item.Genre.Name, This is direct from Item
</td>

At the same time now if i want to display all properties in one statement for my class "Genre" in this case, i can use @Html.DisplayFor() to save on my typing, for least

i can write @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem=>item.Genre) in place of writing a separate statement for each property of Genre as below

@item.Genre.Name
@item.Genre.Id
@item.Genre.Description

and so on depending on number of properties.

CSS scrollbar style cross browser

As of IE6 I believe you cannot customize the scroll bar using those properties. The Chris Coyier article linked to above goes into nice detail about the options for webkit proprietary css for customizing the scroll bar.

If you really want a cross browser solution that you can fully customize you're going to have to use some JS. Here is a link to a nice plugin for it called FaceScroll: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex11/facescroll/index.htm

.NET data structures: ArrayList, List, HashTable, Dictionary, SortedList, SortedDictionary -- Speed, memory, and when to use each?

Here are a few general tips for you:

  • You can use foreach on types that implement IEnumerable. IList is essentially an IEnumberable with Count and Item (accessing items using a zero-based index) properties. IDictionary on the other hand means you can access items by any-hashable index.

  • Array, ArrayList and List all implement IList. Dictionary, SortedDictionary, and Hashtable implement IDictionary.

  • If you are using .NET 2.0 or higher, it is recommended that you use generic counterparts of mentioned types.

  • For time and space complexity of various operations on these types, you should consult their documentation.

  • .NET data structures are in System.Collections namespace. There are type libraries such as PowerCollections which offer additional data structures.

  • To get a thorough understanding of data structures, consult resources such as CLRS.

Get all variables sent with POST?

you should be able to access them from $_POST variable:

foreach ($_POST as $param_name => $param_val) {
    echo "Param: $param_name; Value: $param_val<br />\n";
}

Why is the Android emulator so slow? How can we speed up the Android emulator?

For fast testing (<1 second) use buildroid with VirtualBox's first network card set to “host only network” and then run

C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb connect *.*.*.*:5555
connected to *.*.*.*:5555

(^) DOS / bash (v)

# adb connect *.*.*.*:5555
connected to *.*.*.*:5555

where *. *. * .* is the buildroid IP address you get by clicking the buildroid app in buildroid main screen.

Removing items from a list

You can't and shouldn't modify a list while iterating over it. You can solve this by temporarely saving the objects to remove:

List<Object> toRemove = new ArrayList<Object>();
for(Object a: list){
    if(a.getXXX().equalsIgnoreCase("AAA")){
        toRemove.add(a);
    }
}
list.removeAll(toRemove);

Is there any quick way to get the last two characters in a string?

In my case, I wanted the opposite. I wanted to strip off the last 2 characters in my string. This was pretty simple:

String myString = someString.substring(0, someString.length() - 2);

How permission can be checked at runtime without throwing SecurityException?

Like Google documentation:

// Assume thisActivity is the current activity
int permissionCheck = ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(thisActivity, Manifest.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE);

Can I use break to exit multiple nested 'for' loops?

Just to add an explicit answer using lambdas:

  for (int i = 0; i < n1; ++i) {
    [&] {
      for (int j = 0; j < n2; ++j) {
        for (int k = 0; k < n3; ++k) {
          return; // yay we're breaking out of 2 loops here
        }
      }
    }();
  }

Of course this pattern has a certain limitations and obviously C++11 only but I think it's quite useful.

How to detect when an Android app goes to the background and come back to the foreground

i know its a little late but i think all these answers do have some problems while i did it like below and that works perfect.

create a activity life cycle callback like this:

 class ActivityLifeCycle implements ActivityLifecycleCallbacks{

    @Override
    public void onActivityCreated(Activity activity, Bundle savedInstanceState) {

    }

    @Override
    public void onActivityStarted(Activity activity) {

    }

    Activity lastActivity;
    @Override
    public void onActivityResumed(Activity activity) {
        //if (null == lastActivity || (activity != null && activity == lastActivity)) //use this condition instead if you want to be informed also when app has been killed or started for the first time
        if (activity != null && activity == lastActivity)
        {
            Toast.makeText(MyApp.this, "NOW!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
        }

        lastActivity = activity;
    }

    @Override
    public void onActivityPaused(Activity activity) {

    }

    @Override
    public void onActivityStopped(Activity activity) {

    }

    @Override
    public void onActivitySaveInstanceState(Activity activity, Bundle outState) {

    }

    @Override
    public void onActivityDestroyed(Activity activity) {

    }
}

and just register it on your application class like below:

public class MyApp extends Application {

@Override
public void onCreate() {
    super.onCreate();
    registerActivityLifecycleCallbacks(new ActivityLifeCycle());
}

Effect of using sys.path.insert(0, path) and sys.path(append) when loading modules

I'm quite a beginner in Python and I found the answer of Anand was very good but quite complicated to me, so I try to reformulate :

1) insert and append methods are not specific to sys.path and as in other languages they add an item into a list or array and :
* append(item) add item to the end of the list,
* insert(n, item) inserts the item at the nth position in the list (0 at the beginning, 1 after the first element, etc ...).

2) As Anand said, python search the import files in each directory of the path in the order of the path, so :
* If you have no file name collisions, the order of the path has no impact,
* If you look after a function already defined in the path and you use append to add your path, you will not get your function but the predefined one.

But I think that it is better to use append and not insert to not overload the standard behaviour of Python, and use non-ambiguous names for your files and methods.

How to export non-exportable private key from store

This worked for me on Windows Server 2012 - I needed to export a non-exportable certificate to setup another ADFS server and this did the trick. Remember to use the jailbreak instructions above i.e.:

crypto::certificates /export /systemstore:CERT_SYSTEM_STORE_LOCAL_MACHINE

What is the definition of "interface" in object oriented programming

Personally I see an interface like a template. If a interface contains the definition for the methods foo() and bar(), then you know every class which uses this interface has the methods foo() and bar().

What are all the different ways to create an object in Java?

Yes, you can create objects using reflection. For example, String.class.newInstance() will give you a new empty String object.

Run a script in Dockerfile

Add column to SQL query results

why dont you add a "source" column to each of the queries with a static value like

select 'source 2' as Source, column1, column2...
from table2

Correct set of dependencies for using Jackson mapper

Apart from fixing the imports, do a fresh maven clean compile -U. Note the -U option, that brings in new dependencies which sometimes the editor has hard time with. Let the compilation fail due to un-imported classes, but at least you have an option to import them after the maven command.

Just doing Maven->Reimport from Intellij did not work for me.

java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method on a null object reference

Convert int to char in java

My answer is similar to jh314's answer but I'll explain a little deeper.

What you should do in this case is:

int a = 1;
char b = (char)(a + '0');
System.out.println(b);

Here, we used '0' because chars are actually represented by ASCII values. '0' is a char and represented by the value of 48.

We typed (a + '0') and in order to add these up, Java converted '0' to its ASCII value which is 48 and a is 1 so the sum is 49. Then what we did is:

(char)(49)

We casted int to char. ASCII equivalent of 49 is '1'. You can convert any digit to char this way and is smarter and better way than using .toString() method and then subtracting the digit by .charAt() method.

Trim to remove white space

jQuery.trim() capital Q?

or $.trim()

graphing an equation with matplotlib

This is because in line

graph(x**3+2*x-4, range(-10, 11))

x is not defined.

The easiest way is to pass the function you want to plot as a string and use eval to evaluate it as an expression.

So your code with minimal modifications will be

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
def graph(formula, x_range):
    x = np.array(x_range)
    y = eval(formula)
    plt.plot(x, y)
    plt.show()

and you can call it as

graph('x**3+2*x-4', range(-10, 11))

How to load data to hive from HDFS without removing the source file?

from your question I assume that you already have your data in hdfs. So you don't need to LOAD DATA, which moves the files to the default hive location /user/hive/warehouse. You can simply define the table using the externalkeyword, which leaves the files in place, but creates the table definition in the hive metastore. See here: Create Table DDL eg.:

create external table table_name (
  id int,
  myfields string
)
location '/my/location/in/hdfs';

Please note that the format you use might differ from the default (as mentioned by JigneshRawal in the comments). You can use your own delimiter, for example when using Sqoop:

row format delimited fields terminated by ','

Can gcc output C code after preprocessing?

-save-temps

This is another good option to have in mind:

gcc -save-temps -c -o main.o main.c

main.c

#define INC 1

int myfunc(int i) {
    return i + INC;
}

and now, besides the normal output main.o, the current working directory also contains the following files:

  • main.i is the desired prepossessed file containing:

    # 1 "main.c"
    # 1 "<built-in>"
    # 1 "<command-line>"
    # 31 "<command-line>"
    # 1 "/usr/include/stdc-predef.h" 1 3 4
    # 32 "<command-line>" 2
    # 1 "main.c"

    int myfunc(int i) {
        return i + 1;
    }

  • main.s is a bonus :-) and contains the generated assembly:

        .file   "main.c"
        .text
        .globl  myfunc
        .type   myfunc, @function
    myfunc:
    .LFB0:
        .cfi_startproc
        pushq   %rbp
        .cfi_def_cfa_offset 16
        .cfi_offset 6, -16
        movq    %rsp, %rbp
        .cfi_def_cfa_register 6
        movl    %edi, -4(%rbp)
        movl    -4(%rbp), %eax
        addl    $1, %eax
        popq    %rbp
        .cfi_def_cfa 7, 8
        ret
        .cfi_endproc
    .LFE0:
        .size   myfunc, .-myfunc
        .ident  "GCC: (Ubuntu 8.3.0-6ubuntu1) 8.3.0"
        .section    .note.GNU-stack,"",@progbits

If you want to do it for a large number of files, consider using instead:

 -save-temps=obj

which saves the intermediate files to the same directory as the -o object output instead of the current working directory, thus avoiding potential basename conflicts.

The advantage of this option over -E is that it is easy to add it to any build script, without interfering much in the build itself.

Another cool thing about this option is if you add -v:

gcc -save-temps -c -o main.o -v main.c

it actually shows the explicit files being used instead of ugly temporaries under /tmp, so it is easy to know exactly what is going on, which includes the preprocessing / compilation / assembly steps:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/8/cc1 -E -quiet -v -imultiarch x86_64-linux-gnu main.c -mtune=generic -march=x86-64 -fpch-preprocess -fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Wformat-security -o main.i
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/8/cc1 -fpreprocessed main.i -quiet -dumpbase main.c -mtune=generic -march=x86-64 -auxbase-strip main.o -version -fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Wformat-security -o main.s
as -v --64 -o main.o main.s

Tested in Ubuntu 19.04 amd64, GCC 8.3.0.

CMake predefined targets

CMake automatically provides a targets for the preprocessed file:

make help

shows us that we can do:

make main.i

and that target runs:

Preprocessing C source to CMakeFiles/main.dir/main.c.i
/usr/bin/cc    -E /home/ciro/bak/hello/main.c > CMakeFiles/main.dir/main.c.i

so the file can be seen at CMakeFiles/main.dir/main.c.i

Tested on cmake 3.16.1.

How to serialize/deserialize to `Dictionary<int, string>` from custom XML not using XElement?

Based on L.B.'s answer.

Usage:

var serializer = new DictionarySerializer<string, string>();
serializer.Serialize("dictionary.xml", _dictionary);
_dictionary = _titleDictSerializer.Deserialize("dictionary.xml");

Generic class:

public class DictionarySerializer<TKey, TValue>
{
    [XmlType(TypeName = "Item")]
    public class Item
    {
        [XmlAttribute("key")]
        public TKey Key;
        [XmlAttribute("value")]
        public TValue Value;
    }

    private XmlSerializer _serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Item[]), new XmlRootAttribute("Dictionary"));

    public Dictionary<TKey, TValue> Deserialize(string filename)
    {
        using (FileStream stream = new FileStream(filename, FileMode.Open))
        using (XmlReader reader = XmlReader.Create(stream))
        {
            return ((Item[])_serializer.Deserialize(reader)).ToDictionary(p => p.Key, p => p.Value);
        }
    }

    public void Serialize(string filename, Dictionary<TKey, TValue> dictionary)
    {
        using (var writer = new StreamWriter(filename))
        {
            _serializer.Serialize(writer, dictionary.Select(p => new Item() { Key = p.Key, Value = p.Value }).ToArray());
        }
    }
}

jQuery function after .append

Cleanest way is to do it step by step. Use an each funciton to itterate through each element. As soon as that element is appended, pass it to a subsequent function to process that element.

    function processAppended(el){
        //process appended element
    }

    var remove = '<a href="#">remove</a>' ;
    $('li').each(function(){
        $(this).append(remove);
        processAppended(this);
    });?

Remove duplicates from dataframe, based on two columns A,B, keeping row with max value in another column C

You can do it using group by:

c_maxes = df.groupby(['A', 'B']).C.transform(max)
df = df.loc[df.C == c_maxes]

c_maxes is a Series of the maximum values of C in each group but which is of the same length and with the same index as df. If you haven't used .transform then printing c_maxes might be a good idea to see how it works.

Another approach using drop_duplicates would be

df.sort('C').drop_duplicates(subset=['A', 'B'], take_last=True)

Not sure which is more efficient but I guess the first approach as it doesn't involve sorting.

EDIT: From pandas 0.18 up the second solution would be

df.sort_values('C').drop_duplicates(subset=['A', 'B'], keep='last')

or, alternatively,

df.sort_values('C', ascending=False).drop_duplicates(subset=['A', 'B'])

In any case, the groupby solution seems to be significantly more performing:

%timeit -n 10 df.loc[df.groupby(['A', 'B']).C.max == df.C]
10 loops, best of 3: 25.7 ms per loop

%timeit -n 10 df.sort_values('C').drop_duplicates(subset=['A', 'B'], keep='last')
10 loops, best of 3: 101 ms per loop

Remove characters from C# string

Sounds like an ideal application for RegEx -- an engine designed for fast text manipulation. In this case:

Regex.Replace("He\"ll,o Wo'r.ld", "[@,\\.\";'\\\\]", string.Empty)

LINQ Using Max() to select a single row

You can also do:

(from u in table
orderby u.Status descending
select u).Take(1);

Python Save to file

You need to open the file again using open(), but this time passing 'w' to indicate that you want to write to the file. I would also recommend using with to ensure that the file will be closed when you are finished writing to it.

with open('Failed.txt', 'w') as f:
    for ip in [k for k, v in ips.iteritems() if v >=5]:
        f.write(ip)

Naturally you may want to include newlines or other formatting in your output, but the basics are as above.

The same issue with closing your file applies to the reading code. That should look like this:

ips = {}
with open('today','r') as myFile:
    for line in myFile:
        parts = line.split(' ')
        if parts[1] == 'Failure':
            if parts[0] in ips:
                ips[pars[0]] += 1
            else:
                ips[parts[0]] = 0

Selecting specific rows and columns from NumPy array

As Toan suggests, a simple hack would be to just select the rows first, and then select the columns over that.

>>> a[[0,1,3], :]            # Returns the rows you want
array([[ 0,  1,  2,  3],
       [ 4,  5,  6,  7],
       [12, 13, 14, 15]])
>>> a[[0,1,3], :][:, [0,2]]  # Selects the columns you want as well
array([[ 0,  2],
       [ 4,  6],
       [12, 14]])

[Edit] The built-in method: np.ix_

I recently discovered that numpy gives you an in-built one-liner to doing exactly what @Jaime suggested, but without having to use broadcasting syntax (which suffers from lack of readability). From the docs:

Using ix_ one can quickly construct index arrays that will index the cross product. a[np.ix_([1,3],[2,5])] returns the array [[a[1,2] a[1,5]], [a[3,2] a[3,5]]].

So you use it like this:

>>> a = np.arange(20).reshape((5,4))
>>> a[np.ix_([0,1,3], [0,2])]
array([[ 0,  2],
       [ 4,  6],
       [12, 14]])

And the way it works is that it takes care of aligning arrays the way Jaime suggested, so that broadcasting happens properly:

>>> np.ix_([0,1,3], [0,2])
(array([[0],
        [1],
        [3]]), array([[0, 2]]))

Also, as MikeC says in a comment, np.ix_ has the advantage of returning a view, which my first (pre-edit) answer did not. This means you can now assign to the indexed array:

>>> a[np.ix_([0,1,3], [0,2])] = -1
>>> a
array([[-1,  1, -1,  3],
       [-1,  5, -1,  7],
       [ 8,  9, 10, 11],
       [-1, 13, -1, 15],
       [16, 17, 18, 19]])

Duplicate / Copy records in the same MySQL table

I needed this as well; my solution was to use SQLYOG (free version) to export the desired record as SQL (creates an insert).

I then hand edited this to remove the id as this needs to be auto-generated and then copied the insert into SQLYog to execute it. This was painless. I guess plenty of other MySQL GUIs can do this as well.

This provides me with a record I can use for test purposes on a live system.

I now have this insert for reuse as well, as the table is rewritten daily.

How do I calculate someone's age in Java?

The fields birth and effect are both date fields:

Calendar bir = Calendar.getInstance();
bir.setTime(birth);
int birthNm = bir.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR);
int birthYear = bir.get(Calendar.YEAR);
Calendar eff = Calendar.getInstance();
eff.setTime(effect);

This basically a modification of John O's solution without using depreciated methods. I spent a fair amount of time trying to get his code to work in in my code. Maybe this will save others that time.

How to completely remove a dialog on close

This is worked for me

$('<div>We failed</div>')
    .dialog(

            $(this).remove();
        }

PS: I had a somewhat similar problem and the above approach solved it.

Rotating a Vector in 3D Space

If you want to rotate a vector you should construct what is known as a rotation matrix.

Rotation in 2D

Say you want to rotate a vector or a point by ?, then trigonometry states that the new coordinates are

    x' = x cos ? - y sin ?
    y' = x sin ? + y cos ?

To demo this, let's take the cardinal axes X and Y; when we rotate the X-axis 90° counter-clockwise, we should end up with the X-axis transformed into Y-axis. Consider

    Unit vector along X axis = <1, 0>
    x' = 1 cos 90 - 0 sin 90 = 0
    y' = 1 sin 90 + 0 cos 90 = 1
    New coordinates of the vector, <x', y'> = <0, 1>  ?  Y-axis

When you understand this, creating a matrix to do this becomes simple. A matrix is just a mathematical tool to perform this in a comfortable, generalized manner so that various transformations like rotation, scale and translation (moving) can be combined and performed in a single step, using one common method. From linear algebra, to rotate a point or vector in 2D, the matrix to be built is

    |cos ?   -sin ?| |x| = |x cos ? - y sin ?| = |x'|
    |sin ?    cos ?| |y|   |x sin ? + y cos ?|   |y'|

Rotation in 3D

That works in 2D, while in 3D we need to take in to account the third axis. Rotating a vector around the origin (a point) in 2D simply means rotating it around the Z-axis (a line) in 3D; since we're rotating around Z-axis, its coordinate should be kept constant i.e. 0° (rotation happens on the XY plane in 3D). In 3D rotating around the Z-axis would be

    |cos ?   -sin ?   0| |x|   |x cos ? - y sin ?|   |x'|
    |sin ?    cos ?   0| |y| = |x sin ? + y cos ?| = |y'|
    |  0       0      1| |z|   |        z        |   |z'|

around the Y-axis would be

    | cos ?    0   sin ?| |x|   | x cos ? + z sin ?|   |x'|
    |   0      1       0| |y| = |         y        | = |y'|
    |-sin ?    0   cos ?| |z|   |-x sin ? + z cos ?|   |z'|

around the X-axis would be

    |1     0           0| |x|   |        x        |   |x'|
    |0   cos ?    -sin ?| |y| = |y cos ? - z sin ?| = |y'|
    |0   sin ?     cos ?| |z|   |y sin ? + z cos ?|   |z'|

Note 1: axis around which rotation is done has no sine or cosine elements in the matrix.

Note 2: This method of performing rotations follows the Euler angle rotation system, which is simple to teach and easy to grasp. This works perfectly fine for 2D and for simple 3D cases; but when rotation needs to be performed around all three axes at the same time then Euler angles may not be sufficient due to an inherent deficiency in this system which manifests itself as Gimbal lock. People resort to Quaternions in such situations, which is more advanced than this but doesn't suffer from Gimbal locks when used correctly.

I hope this clarifies basic rotation.

Rotation not Revolution

The aforementioned matrices rotate an object at a distance r = v(x² + y²) from the origin along a circle of radius r; lookup polar coordinates to know why. This rotation will be with respect to the world space origin a.k.a revolution. Usually we need to rotate an object around its own frame/pivot and not around the world's i.e. local origin. This can also be seen as a special case where r = 0. Since not all objects are at the world origin, simply rotating using these matrices will not give the desired result of rotating around the object's own frame. You'd first translate (move) the object to world origin (so that the object's origin would align with the world's, thereby making r = 0), perform the rotation with one (or more) of these matrices and then translate it back again to its previous location. The order in which the transforms are applied matters. Combining multiple transforms together is called concatenation or composition.

Composition

I urge you to read about linear and affine transformations and their composition to perform multiple transformations in one shot, before playing with transformations in code. Without understanding the basic maths behind it, debugging transformations would be a nightmare. I found this lecture video to be a very good resource. Another resource is this tutorial on transformations that aims to be intuitive and illustrates the ideas with animation (caveat: authored by me!).

Rotation around Arbitrary Vector

A product of the aforementioned matrices should be enough if you only need rotations around cardinal axes (X, Y or Z) like in the question posted. However, in many situations you might want to rotate around an arbitrary axis/vector. The Rodrigues' formula (a.k.a. axis-angle formula) is a commonly prescribed solution to this problem. However, resort to it only if you’re stuck with just vectors and matrices. If you're using Quaternions, just build a quaternion with the required vector and angle. Quaternions are a superior alternative for storing and manipulating 3D rotations; it's compact and fast e.g. concatenating two rotations in axis-angle representation is fairly expensive, moderate with matrices but cheap in quaternions. Usually all rotation manipulations are done with quaternions and as the last step converted to matrices when uploading to the rendering pipeline. See Understanding Quaternions for a decent primer on quaternions.

Understanding [TCP ACKed unseen segment] [TCP Previous segment not captured]

Another cause of "TCP ACKed Unseen" is the number of packets that may get dropped in a capture. If I run an unfiltered capture for all traffic on a busy interface, I will sometimes see a large number of 'dropped' packets after stopping tshark.

On the last capture I did when I saw this, I had 2893204 packets captured, but once I hit Ctrl-C, I got a 87581 packets dropped message. Thats a 3% loss, so when wireshark opens the capture, its likely to be missing packets and report "unseen" packets.

As I mentioned, I captured a really busy interface with no capture filter, so tshark had to sort all packets, when I use a capture filter to remove some of the noise, I no longer get the error.

Git - How to close commit editor?

Save the file in the editor. If it's Emacs: CTRLX CTRLS to save then CTRLX CTRLC to quit or if it's vi: :wq

Press esc first to get out from editing. (in windows/vi)

Difference between Mutable objects and Immutable objects

Mutable objects have fields that can be changed, immutable objects have no fields that can be changed after the object is created.

A very simple immutable object is a object without any field. (For example a simple Comparator Implementation).

class Mutable{
  private int value;

  public Mutable(int value) {
     this.value = value;
  }

  //getter and setter for value
}

class Immutable {
  private final int value;

  public Immutable(int value) {
     this.value = value;
  }

  //only getter
}

Postman: How to make multiple requests at the same time

I don't know if this question is still relevant, but there is such possibility in Postman now. They added it a few months ago.

All you need is create simple .js file and run it via node.js. It looks like this:

var path = require('path'),
  async = require('async'), //https://www.npmjs.com/package/async
  newman = require('newman'),

  parametersForTestRun = {
    collection: path.join(__dirname, 'postman_collection.json'), // your collection
    environment: path.join(__dirname, 'postman_environment.json'), //your env
  };

parallelCollectionRun = function(done) {
  newman.run(parametersForTestRun, done);
};

// Runs the Postman sample collection thrice, in parallel.
async.parallel([
    parallelCollectionRun,
    parallelCollectionRun,
    parallelCollectionRun
  ],
  function(err, results) {
    err && console.error(err);

    results.forEach(function(result) {
      var failures = result.run.failures;
      console.info(failures.length ? JSON.stringify(failures.failures, null, 2) :
        `${result.collection.name} ran successfully.`);
    });
  });

Then just run this .js file ('node fileName.js' in cmd).

Running an outside program (executable) in Python?

That's the correct usage, but perhaps the spaces in the path name are messing things up for some reason.

You may want to run the program under cmd.exe as well so you can see any output from flow.exe that might be indicating an error.

Align labels in form next to input

You can do something like this:

HTML:

<div class='div'>
<label>Something</label>
<input type='text' class='input'/>
<div>

CSS:

.div{
      margin-bottom: 10px;
      display: grid;
      grid-template-columns: 1fr 4fr;
}

.input{
       width: 50%;
}

Hope this helps ! :)

How do I get the last character of a string using an Excel function?

Looks like the answer above was a little incomplete try the following:-

=RIGHT(A2,(LEN(A2)-(LEN(A2)-1)))

Obviously, this is for cell A2...

What this does is uses a combination of Right and Len - Len is the length of a string and in this case, we want to remove all but one from that... clearly, if you wanted the last two characters you'd change the -1 to -2 etc etc etc.

After the length has been determined and the portion of that which is required - then the Right command will display the information you need.

This works well combined with an IF statement - I use this to find out if the last character of a string of text is a specific character and remove it if it is. See, the example below for stripping out commas from the end of a text string...

=IF(RIGHT(A2,(LEN(A2)-(LEN(A2)-1)))=",",LEFT(A2,(LEN(A2)-1)),A2)
