If I understood the question correctly, you can use the slicing notation to keep everything except the last item:

record = record[:-1]

But a better way is to delete the item directly:

del record[-1]

Note 1: Note that using record = record[:-1] does not really remove the last element, but assign the sublist to record. I had this problem and it turned out the issue was that I had named my repository with CamelCase. Bitbucket automatically changes the URL of your repository to be all lower case and that gets sent to Jenkins in the webhook. Jenkins then searches for projects with a matching repository. If you, like me, have CamelCase in your repository URL in your project configuration you will be able to check out code, but the pattern matching on the webhook request will fail.

Just change your repo URL to be all lower case instead of CamelCase and the pattern match should find your project.

Using a subshell substitution to parse the words undoes all the work you are doing to put spaces together.

Try instead:

That also increases parallelism. Using a subshell as in your question forces the entire subshell process to finish before you can start iterating over the answers. Piping to a subshell (as in my answer) lets them work in parallel. This matters only if you have many lines in the file, of course.

The listener supports no services

The database registers its service name(s) with the listener when it starts up. If it is unable to do so then it tries again periodically - so if the listener starts after the database then there can be a delay before the service is recognised.

If the database isn't running, though, nothing will have registered the service, so you shouldn't expect the listener to know about it - lsnrctl status or lsnrctl services won't report a service that isn't registered yet.

You can start the database up without the listener; from the Oracle account and with your ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and PATH set you can do:

If you're expecting it to be running and it isn't, or you try to start it and it won't come up, then that's a whole different scenario - you'd need to look at the error messages, alert log, possibly trace files etc. to see exactly why it won't start, and if you can't figure it out, maybe ask on Database Adminsitrators rather than on Stack Overflow.


If the database can't see +DATA then ASM may not be running; you can see how to start that here; or using srvctl start asm. As the documentation says, make sure you do that from the grid home, not the database home.

Most of the time you need to create a Service to perform something in the background, and your visible Activity simply controls this Service. (I'm sure the Music player works in the same way, so the example in the docs seems a bit misleading.) If that's the case, then your Activity can finish as usual and the Service will still be running.

A simpler approach is to capture the Back button press and call moveTaskToBack(true) as follows:

I believe I figured it out.

In my case, I added [class*="col-"] {padding: 0 7.5px;};.

Then added .row {margin: 0 -7.5px;}.

This works pretty well, except there is 1px margin on both sides. So I just make .row {margin: 0 -7.5px;} to .row {margin: 0 -8.5px;}, then it works perfectly.

I have no idea why there is a 1px margin. Maybe someone can explain it?

(MacOS) I got this issue after getting some malware that was forcing me to use WeKnow as a search engine. To fix this on MacOs I followed these steps

How to convert PDF files to images

The PDF engine used in Google Chrome, called PDFium, is open source under the "BSD 3-clause" license. I believe this allows redistribution when used in a commercial product.

There is a .NET wrapper for it called PdfiumViewer (NuGet) which works well to the extent I have tried it. It is under the Apache license which also allows redistribution.

(Note that this is NOT the same 'wrapper' as https://pdfium.patagames.com/ which requires a commercial license*)

(There is one other PDFium .NET wrapper, PDFiumSharp, but I have not evaluated it.)

In my opinion, so far, this may be the best choice of open-source (free as in beer) PDF libraries to do the job which do not put restrictions on the closed-source / commercial nature of the software utilizing them. I don't think anything else in the answers here satisfy that criteria, to the best of my knowledge.

Generic Interface

Here's one suggestion:

Because of type erasure any class will only be able to implement one of these. This eliminates the redundant method at least.

Visual Studio 2013 License Product Key

I solved this, without having to completely reinstall Visual Studio 2013.

For those who may come across this in the future, the following steps worked for me:

  1. Run the ISO (or vs_professional.exe).
  2. If you get the error below, you need to update the Windows Registry to trick the installer into thinking you still have the base version. If you don't get this error, skip to step 3 "The product version that you are trying to set up is earlier than the version already installed on this computer."

    • Click the link for 'examine the log file' and look near the bottom of the log, for this line: Detected related bundle ... operation: Downgrade

    • open regedit.exe and do an Edit > Find... for that GUID. In my case it was {6dff50d0-3bc3-4a92-b724-bf6d6a99de4f}. This was found in:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{6dff50d0-3bc3-4a92-b724-bf6d6a99de4f}

    • Edit the BundleVersion value and change it to a lower version. I changed mine from 12.0.21005.13 to 12.0.21000.13: BundleVersion for Visual Studio lower the version for BundleVersion

    • Exit the registry

  3. Run the ISO (or vs_professional.exe) again. If it has a repair button like the image below, you can skip to step 4.

    • Otherwise you have to let the installer fix the registry. I did this by "installing" at least one feature, even though I think I already had all features (they were not detected). This took about 20 minutes.
  4. Run the ISO (or vs_professional.exe) again. This time repair should be visible.

  5. Click Repair and let it update your installation and apply its embedded license key. This took about 20 minutes.


Now when you run Visual Studio 2013, it should indicate that a license key was applied, under Help > Register Product:

If you are getting that error , then I can say that your application doesn't have a write permission on some directory.

For example, if you are trying to save the Image from the memory stream to the file system , you may get that error.

Please if you are using XP, make sure to add write permission for the aspnet account on that folder.

If you are using windows server (2003,2008) or Vista, make sure that add write permission for the Network service account.

Cannot Resolve Collation Conflict

The thing about collations is that although the database has its own collation, every table, and every column can have its own collation. If not specified it takes the default of its parent object, but can be different.

When you change collation of the database, it will be the new default for all new tables and columns, but it doesn't change the collation of existing objects inside the database. You have to go and change manually the collation of every table and column.

Luckily there are scripts available on the internet that can do the job. I am not going to recommend any as I haven't tried them but here are few links:

You would want to amend the commit and then do a force push which will update the branch with the PR.

Here's how I recommend you do this:

  1. Close the PR so that whomever is reviewing it doesn't pull it in until you've made your changes.
  2. Do a Soft reset to the commit before your unwanted change (if this is the last commit you can use git reset --soft HEAD^ or if it's a different commit, you would want to replace 'HEAD^' with the commit id)
  3. Discard (or undo) any changes to the file that you didn't intend to update
  4. Make a new commit git commit -a -c ORIG_HEAD
  5. Force Push to your branch
  6. Re-Open Pull Request

The now that your branch has been updated, the Pull Request will include your changes.

If you're just looking for a more concise syntax you can put the for loop on one line:

PostgreSQL: FOREIGN KEY/ON DELETE CASCADE

In my humble experience with postgres 9.6, cascade delete doesn't work in practice for tables that grow above a trivial size.

  • Even worse, while the delete cascade is going on, the tables involved are locked so those tables (and potentially your whole database) is unusable.
  • Still worse, it's hard to get postgres to tell you what it's doing during the delete cascade. If it's taking a long time, which table or tables is making it slow? Perhaps it's somewhere in the pg_stats information? It's hard to tell.

Find out two pieces of information

  • Whats the hostname or IP of the target ssh server
  • What port is the ssh daemon listening on (default is port 22)

$> telnet <hostname or ip> <port>

Assuming the daemon is up and running and listening on that port it should etablish a telnet session. Likely causes:

  • The ssh daemon is not running
  • The host is blocking the target port with its software firewall
  • Some intermediate network device is blocking or filtering the target port
  • The ssh daemon is listening on a non standard port
  • A TCP wrapper is configured and is filtering out your source host

How to install gem from GitHub source?

In case you are using bundler, you need to add something like this to your Gemfile:

What causes javac to issue the "uses unchecked or unsafe operations" warning

I just want to add one example of the kind of unchecked warning I see quite often. If you use classes that implement an interface like Serializable, often you will call methods that return objects of the interface, and not the actual class. If the class being returned must be cast to a type based on generics, you can get this warning.

Here is a brief (and somewhat silly) example to demonstrate:

There is a mySQL bug report from 2004 that still seems to have some validity. It seems that in 4.x, this was fastest:

CREATE TABLE table_name

TRUNCATE table_name was DELETE FROM internally back then, providing no performance gain.

Integer division: How do you produce a double?

I don't like casting primitives, who knows what may happen.

Why do you have an irrational fear of casting primitives? Nothing bad will happen when you cast an int to a double. If you're just not sure of how it works, look it up in the Java Language Specification. Casting an int to double is a widening primitive conversion.

You can get rid of the extra pair of parentheses by casting the denominator instead of the numerator:

double d = num / (double) denom;

To add resources to the classpath for your unit tests, you follow the same pattern as you do for adding resources to the JAR except the directory you place resources in is ${basedir}/src/test/resources. At this point you would have a project directory structure that would look like the following:

As vartec says above, the HTTP spec does not define a limit, however many servers do by default. This means, practically speaking, the lower limit is 8K. For most servers, this limit applies to the sum of the request line and ALL header fields (so keep your cookies short).

It's worth noting that nginx uses the system page size by default, which is 4K on most systems. You can check with this tiny program:

How to check heap usage of a running JVM from the command line?

If you start execution with gc logging turned on you get the info on file. Otherwise 'jmap -heap ' will give you what you want. See the jmap doc page for more.

Please note that jmap should not be used in a production environment unless absolutely needed as the tool halts the application to be able to determine actual heap usage. Usually this is not desired in a production environment.

Where is the documentation for the values() method of Enum?

You can't see this method in javadoc because it's added by the compiler.

Documented in three places :

The compiler automatically adds some special methods when it creates an enum. For example, they have a static values method that returns an array containing all of the values of the enum in the order they are declared. This method is commonly used in combination with the for-each construct to iterate over the values of an enum type.

    (The special implicit values method is mentioned in description of valueOf method)

All the constants of an enum type can be obtained by calling the implicit public static T[] values() method of that type.

The values function simply list all values of the enumeration.

What is the meaning of prepended double colon "::"?

This ensures that resolution occurs from the global namespace, instead of starting at the namespace you're currently in. For instance, if you had two different classes called Configuration as such:

class Configuration; // class 1, in global namespace
namespace MyApp

    function blah()
    {
        // resolves to MyApp::Configuration, class 2
        Configuration::doStuff(...)

Basically, it allows you to traverse up to the global namespace since your name might get clobbered by a new definition inside another namespace, in this case MyApp.
