Error: Node Sass does not yet support your current environment: Windows 64-bit with false

I had the same problem and I solved it as follows:

  1. check the node-sass version used in the current project

  2. go to node-sass release: "https://github.com/sass/node-sass/releases/tag/v@.@.@" (put your node-sass version here)

  3. check the Supported Environment table and see if your Node version exist in it

  4. if it is not, downgrade your node version to the latest version existing in the table

I know it's not the perfect solution but I didn't find anything else in my case.

Creating an iframe with given HTML dynamically

There is an alternative for creating an iframe whose contents are a string of HTML: the srcdoc attribute. This is not supported in older browsers (chief among them: Internet Explorer, and possibly Safari?), but there is a polyfill for this behavior, which you could put in conditional comments for IE, or use something like has.js to conditionally lazy load it.

Removing a non empty directory programmatically in C or C++

If you are using a POSIX compliant OS, you could use nftw() for file tree traversal and remove (removes files or directories). If you are in C++ and your project uses boost, it is not a bad idea to use the Boost.Filesystem as suggested by Manuel.

In the code example below I decided not to traverse symbolic links and mount points (just to avoid a grand removal:) ):

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <ftw.h>

static int rmFiles(const char *pathname, const struct stat *sbuf, int type, struct FTW *ftwb)
{
    if(remove(pathname) < 0)
    {
        perror("ERROR: remove");
        return -1;
    }
    return 0;
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    if (argc != 2)
    {
        fprintf(stderr,"usage: %s path\n",argv[0]);
        exit(1);
    }

    // Delete the directory and its contents by traversing the tree in reverse order, without crossing mount boundaries and symbolic links

    if (nftw(argv[1], rmFiles,10, FTW_DEPTH|FTW_MOUNT|FTW_PHYS) < 0)
    {
        perror("ERROR: ntfw");
        exit(1);
    }

    return 0;
}

Catching nullpointerexception in Java

NullPointerException is a run-time exception which is not recommended to catch it, but instead avoid it:

if(someVariable != null) someVariable.doSomething();
else
{
    // do something else
}

python for increment inner loop

In python, for loops iterate over iterables, instead of incrementing a counter, so you have a couple choices. Using a skip flag like Artsiom recommended is one way to do it. Another option is to make a generator from your range and manually advance it by discarding an element using next().

iGen = (i for i in range(0, 6))
for i in iGen:
    print i
    if not i % 2:
        iGen.next()

But this isn't quite complete because next() might throw a StopIteration if it reaches the end of the range, so you have to add some logic to detect that and break out of the outer loop if that happens.

In the end, I'd probably go with aw4ully's solution with the while loops.

Order a MySQL table by two columns

How to select the first element with a specific attribute using XPath

With help of an online xpath tester I'm writing this answer...
For this:

<table id="t2"><tbody>
<tr><td>123</td><td>other</td></tr>
<tr><td>foo</td><td>columns</td></tr>
<tr><td>bar</td><td>are</td></tr>
<tr><td>xyz</td><td>ignored</td></tr>
</tbody></table>

the following xpath:

id("t2") / tbody / tr / td[1]

outputs:

123
foo
bar
xyz

Since 1 means select all td elements which are the first child of their own direct parent.
But the following xpath:

(id("t2") / tbody / tr / td)[1]

outputs:

123

How can I use "." as the delimiter with String.split() in java

This is definitely not the best way to do this but, I got it done by doing something like following.

String imageName = "my_image.png";
String replace = imageName.replace('.','~');
String[] split = replace.split("~");

System.out.println("Image name : " + split[0]);
System.out.println("Image extension : " + split[1]);

Output,

Image name : my_image
Image extension : png

Convert a video to MP4 (H.264/AAC) with ffmpeg

Software patents led Debian/Ubuntu to disable the H.264 and AAC encoders in ffmpeg. See /usr/share/doc/ffmpeg/README.Debian.gz.

So go install x264, mplayer/mencoder, and Nero's AAC encoder. (Or, if you want to use all Free software, and don't care so much about audio quality, then sudo aptitude install faac.)

I don't remember if the medibuntu package of mencoder includes x264 vid encoding, since I build my own from git x264 and svn mplayer sources. (x264 is very actively developed, with significant quality and speed improvements frequently added.) http://git.videolan.org/?p=x264.git;a=summary

x264 is also packaged, but you should check that it's up to date enough to include weightp with recent bugfixes, and even more recent speed improvements...

Or if you're already willing to convert from .flv, instead of going from the high-quality source the flv was made from, then probably whatever recent version of x264 you can find will be fine.

How can I start an interactive console for Perl?

Perl doesn't have a console but the debugger can be used as one. At a command prompt, type perl -de 1. (The value "1" doesn't matter, it's just a valid statement that does nothing.)

There are also a couple of options for a Perl shell.

For more information read perlfaq3.

Create Setup/MSI installer in Visual Studio 2017

Other answers posted here for this question did not work for me using the latest Visual Studio 2017 Enterprise edition (as of 2018-09-18).

Instead, I used this method:

  1. Close all but one instance of Visual Studio.
  2. In the running instance, access the menu Tools->Extensions and Updates.
  3. In that dialog, choose Online->Visual Studio Marketplace->Tools->Setup & Deployment.
  4. From the list that appears, select Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Installer Projects.

Once installed, close and restart Visual Studio. Go to File->New Project and search for the word Installer. You'll know you have the correct templates installed if you see a list that looks something like this:

Yes, the garbage collector will remove them as well. Might not always be the case with legacy browsers though.

Android EditText delete(backspace) key event

I have found a really simple solution which works with a soft keyboard.

override fun onTextChanged(text: CharSequence?, start: Int, before: Int, count: Int) {
    text?.let {
        if(count < before) {
            Toast.makeText(context, "backspace pressed", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()

Regex lookahead, lookbehind and atomic groups

Grokking lookaround rapidly.
How to distinguish lookahead and lookbehind? Take 2 minutes tour with me:

(?=) - positive lookahead
(?<=) - positive lookbehind

Suppose

    A  B  C #in a line

Now, we ask B, Where are you?
B has two solutions to declare it location:

One, B has A ahead and has C bebind
Two, B is ahead(lookahead) of C and behind (lookhehind) A.

As we can see, the behind and ahead are opposite in the two solutions.
Regex is solution Two.

Continue rebase

> git rebase --continue

handling DATETIME values 0000-00-00 00:00:00 in JDBC

DATE_FORMAT(column name, '%Y-%m-%d %T') as dtime

Use this to avoid the error. It return the date in string format and then you can get it as a string.

resultset.getString("dtime");

This actually does NOT work. Even though you call getString. Internally mysql still tries to convert it to date first.

How to save DataFrame directly to Hive?

you need to have/create a HiveContext

import org.apache.spark.sql.hive.HiveContext;

HiveContext sqlContext = new org.apache.spark.sql.hive.HiveContext(sc.sc());

Then directly save dataframe or select the columns to store as hive table

df is dataframe

df.write().mode("overwrite").saveAsTable("schemaName.tableName");

or

df.select(df.col("col1"),df.col("col2"), df.col("col3")) .write().mode("overwrite").saveAsTable("schemaName.tableName");

or

df.write().mode(SaveMode.Overwrite).saveAsTable("dbName.tableName");

SaveModes are Append/Ignore/Overwrite/ErrorIfExists

I added here the definition for HiveContext from Spark Documentation,

In addition to the basic SQLContext, you can also create a HiveContext, which provides a superset of the functionality provided by the basic SQLContext. Additional features include the ability to write queries using the more complete HiveQL parser, access to Hive UDFs, and the ability to read data from Hive tables. To use a HiveContext, you do not need to have an existing Hive setup, and all of the data sources available to a SQLContext are still available. HiveContext is only packaged separately to avoid including all of Hive’s dependencies in the default Spark build.

on Spark version 1.6.2, using "dbName.tableName" gives this error:

org.apache.spark.sql.AnalysisException: Specifying database name or other qualifiers are not allowed for temporary tables. If the table name has dots (.) in it, please quote the table name with backticks ().`

If statement within Where clause

CASE might help you out:

SELECT t.first_name,
       t.last_name,
       t.employid,
       t.status
  FROM employeetable t
 WHERE t.status = (CASE WHEN status_flag = STATUS_ACTIVE THEN 'A'
                        WHEN status_flag = STATUS_INACTIVE THEN 'T'
                        ELSE null END)
   AND t.business_unit = (CASE WHEN source_flag = SOURCE_FUNCTION THEN 'production'
                               WHEN source_flag = SOURCE_USER THEN 'users'
                               ELSE null END)
   AND t.first_name LIKE firstname
   AND t.last_name LIKE lastname
   AND t.employid LIKE employeeid;

The CASE statement evaluates multiple conditions to produce a single value. So, in the first usage, I check the value of status_flag, returning 'A', 'T' or null depending on what it's value is, and compare that to t.status. I do the same for the business_unit column with a second CASE statement.

How to have Java method return generic list of any type?

You can simply cast to List and then check if every element can be casted to T.

    List<T> values = (List<T>) this.value;
    values.forEach(clazz::cast);
    return values;
}

Bootstrap: How to center align content inside column?

You can do this by adding a div i.e. centerBlock. And give this property in CSS to center the image or any content. Here is the code:

<div class="container">
    <div class="row">
        <div class="col-sm-4 col-md-4 col-lg-4">
            <div class="centerBlock">
                <img class="img-responsive" src="img/some-image.png" title="This image needs to be centered">
            </div>
        </div>
        <div class="col-sm-8 col-md-8 col-lg-8">
            Some content not important at this moment
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

// CSS

.centerBlock {
  display: table;
  margin: auto;
}

How to do error logging in CodeIgniter (PHP)

More oin regards to question part 4 How do you e-mail that error to an email address? The error_log function has email destination too. http://php.net/manual/en/function.error-log.php

Agha, here I found an example that shows a usage. Send errors message via email using error_log()

error_log($this->_errorMsg, 1, ADMIN_MAIL, "Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf8\r\nFrom: ".MAIL_ERR_FROM."\r\nTo: ".ADMIN_MAIL);

How can I resolve the error: "The command [...] exited with code 1"?

The first step is figuring out what the error actually is. In order to do this expand your MsBuild output to be diagnostic. This will reveal the actual command executed and hopefully the full error message as well

  • Tools -> Options
  • Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run
  • Change "MsBuild project build output verbosity" to "Diagnostic".

Solution: Usually, I prefer to do :

git fetch
git rebase origin/dev

Copy values from one column to another in the same table

Short answer for the code in question is:

UPDATE `table` SET test=number

Here table is the table name and it's surrounded by grave accent (aka back-ticks `) as this is MySQL convention to escape keywords (and TABLE is a keyword in that case).

BEWARE, that this is pretty dangerous query which will wipe everything in column test in every row of your table replacing it by the number (regardless of it's value)

It is more common to use WHERE clause to limit your query to only specific set of rows:

UPDATE `products` SET `in_stock` = true WHERE `supplier_id` = 10

Why use Ruby's attr_accessor, attr_reader and attr_writer?

You may use the different accessors to communicate your intent to someone reading your code, and make it easier to write classes which will work correctly no matter how their public API is called.

class Person
  attr_accessor :age
  ...
end

Here, I can see that I may both read and write the age.

class Person
  attr_reader :age
  ...
end

Here, I can see that I may only read the age. Imagine that it is set by the constructor of this class and after that remains constant. If there were a mutator (writer) for age and the class were written assuming that age, once set, does not change, then a bug could result from code calling that mutator.

But what is happening behind the scenes?

If you write:

attr_writer :age

That gets translated into:

def age=(value)
  @age = value
end

If you write:

attr_reader :age

That gets translated into:

def age
  @age
end

If you write:

attr_accessor :age

That gets translated into:

def age=(value)
  @age = value
end

def age
  @age
end

Knowing that, here's another way to think about it: If you did not have the attr_... helpers, and had to write the accessors yourself, would you write any more accessors than your class needed? For example, if age only needed to be read, would you also write a method allowing it to be written?

How to convert an entire MySQL database characterset and collation to UTF-8?

Before proceeding, ensure that you: Have completed a full database backup!

Step 1: Database Level Changes

  • Identifying the Collation and Character set of your database

    SELECT DEFAULT_CHARACTER_SET_NAME, DEFAULT_COLLATION_NAME FROM
    information_schema.SCHEMATA S
    WHERE schema_name = 'your_database_name'
    AND
    (DEFAULT_CHARACTER_SET_NAME != 'utf8'
        OR
     DEFAULT_COLLATION_NAME not like 'utf8%');

  • Fixing the collation for the database

    ALTER DATABASE databasename CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;

Step 2: Table Level Changes

  • Identifying Database Tables with the incorrect character set or collation

    SELECT CONCAT(
    'ALTER TABLE ',  table_name, ' CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;  ',
    'ALTER TABLE ',  table_name, ' CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;  ')
    FROM information_schema.TABLES AS T, information_schema.`COLLATION_CHARACTER_SET_APPLICABILITY` AS C
    WHERE C.collation_name = T.table_collation
    AND T.table_schema = 'your_database_name'
    AND
    (C.CHARACTER_SET_NAME != 'utf8'
        OR
     C.COLLATION_NAME not like 'utf8%')

  • Adjusting table columns' collation and character set

Capture upper sql output and run it. (like following)

ALTER TABLE rma CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;ALTER TABLE rma CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;
ALTER TABLE rma_history CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;ALTER TABLE rma_history CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;
ALTER TABLE rma_products CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;ALTER TABLE rma_products CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

How to make an HTTP request + basic auth in Swift

I had a similar problem trying to POST to MailGun for some automated emails I was implementing in an app.

I was able to get this working properly with a large HTTP response. I put the full path into Keys.plist so that I can upload my code to github and broke out some of the arguments into variables so I can have them programmatically set later down the road.

// Email the FBO with desired information
// Parse our Keys.plist so we can use our path
var keys: NSDictionary?

if let path = NSBundle.mainBundle().pathForResource("Keys", ofType: "plist") {
    keys = NSDictionary(contentsOfFile: path)
}

if let dict = keys {
    // variablize our https path with API key, recipient and message text
    let mailgunAPIPath = dict["mailgunAPIPath"] as? String
    let emailRecipient = "[email protected]"
    let emailMessage = "Testing%20email%20sender%20variables"

    // Create a session and fill it with our request
    let session = NSURLSession.sharedSession()
    let request = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: NSURL(string: mailgunAPIPath! + "from=FBOGo%20Reservation%20%3Cscheduler@<my domain>.com%3E&to=reservations@<my domain>.com&to=\(emailRecipient)&subject=A%20New%20Reservation%21&text=\(emailMessage)")!)

    // POST and report back with any errors and response codes
    request.HTTPMethod = "POST"
    let task = session.dataTaskWithRequest(request, completionHandler: {(data, response, error) in
        if let error = error {
            print(error)
        }

        if let response = response {
            print("url = \(response.URL!)")
            print("response = \(response)")
            let httpResponse = response as! NSHTTPURLResponse
            print("response code = \(httpResponse.statusCode)")
        }
    })
    task.resume()
}

The Mailgun Path is in Keys.plist as a string called mailgunAPIPath with the value:

https://API:key-<my key>@api.mailgun.net/v3/<my domain>.com/messages?

Hope this helps offers a solution to someone trying to avoid using 3rd party code for their POST requests!

The root cause was, our apache server was brought down for deployment. All our third party traffic goes thru apache and we were getting connection reset error because of it being down.

Difference between "git add -A" and "git add ."

I hope this may add some more clarity.

!The syntax is
git add <limiters> <pathspec>
! Aka
git add (nil/-u/-A) (nil/./pathspec)

Limiters may be -u or -A or nil.

Pathspec may be a filepath or dot, '.' to indicate the current directory.

Important background knowledge about how Git 'adds':

  • Invisible files, those prefixed with a dot, (dotfiles) are never automatically recognized by Git. They are never even listed as 'untracked'.
  • Empty folders are never added by Git. They are never even listed as 'untracked'. (A workaround is to add a blank file, possibly invisible, to the tracked files.)
  • Git status will not display subfolder information, that is, untracked files, unless at least one file in that subfolder is tracked. Before such time, Git considers the entire folder out of scope, a la 'empty'. It is empty of tracked items.
  • Specifying a filespec = '.' (dot), or the current directory, is not recursive unless -A is also specified. Dot refers strictly to the current directory - it omits paths found above and below.

Now, given that knowledge, we can apply the answers above.

The limiters are as follows.

  • -u = --update = subset to tracked files => Add = No; Change = Yes; Delete = Yes. => if the item is tracked.
  • -A = --all (no such -a, which gives syntax error) = superset of all untracked/tracked files , unless in Git before 2.0, wherein if the dot filespec is given, then only that particular folder is considered. => if the item is recognized, git add -A will find it and add it.

The pathspec is as follows.

  • In Git before 2.0, for the two limiters (update and all), the new default is to operate on the entire working tree, instead of the current path (Git 1.9 or earlier),
  • However, in v2.0, the operation can be limited to the current path: just add the explicit dot suffix (which is also valid in Git 1.9 or earlier);

git add -A .

git add -u .

In conclusion, my policy is:

  1. Ensure any hunks/files to be added are accounted for in git status.
  2. If any items are missing, due to invisible files/folders, add them separately.
  3. Have a good .gitignore file so that normally only files of interest are untracked and/or unrecognized.
  4. From the top level of the repository, "git add -A" to add all items. This works in all versions of Git.
  5. Remove any desired items from the index if desired.
  6. If there is a big bug, do 'git reset' to clear the index entirely.

How to set label size in Bootstrap

In Bootstrap 3 they do not have separate classes for different styles of labels.

http://getbootstrap.com/components/

However, you can customize bootstrap classes that way. In your css file

.lb-sm {
  font-size: 12px;
}

.lb-md {
  font-size: 16px;
}

.lb-lg {
  font-size: 20px;
}

Alternatively, you can use header tags to change the sizes. For example, here is a medium sized label and a small-sized label

_x000D_
_x000D_
<link href="http://maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"/>_x000D_
<h3>Example heading <span class="label label-default">New</span></h3>_x000D_
<h6>Example heading <span class="label label-default">New</span></h6>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

They might add size classes for labels in future Bootstrap versions.

How to configure Chrome's Java plugin so it uses an existing JDK in the machine

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit and couldn't understand if I can manually enable JRE8 64 bit for Chrome. Turned out that my problem was that Java plugin DLL is 64 bit which wouldn't work in 32 bit Chrome. How can the error 'Client found response content type of 'text/html'.. be interpreted

This is happening because there is an unhandled exception in your Web service, and the .NET runtime is spitting out its HTML yellow screen of death server error/exception dump page, instead of XML.

Since the consumer of your Web service was expecting a text/xml header and instead got text/html, it throws that error.

You should address the cause of your timeouts (perhaps a lengthy SQL query?).

Also, checkout this blog post on Jeff Atwood's blog that explains implementing a global unhandled exception handler and using SOAP exceptions.

How to strip HTML tags from a string in SQL Server?

Edit line thickness of CSS 'underline' attribute

The background-image can also be used to create an underline. This method handles line breaks.

It has to be shifted down via background-position and repeated horizontally. The line width can be adjusted to some degree using background-size (the background is limited to the content box of the element).

Regex to check with starts with http://, https:// or ftp://

If you wanna do it in case-insensitive way, this is better:

System.out.println(test.matches("^(?i)(https?|ftp)://.*$"));

Conditionally formatting cells if their value equals any value of another column

Another simpler solution is to use this formula in the conditional formatting (apply to column A):

=COUNTIF(B:B,A1)

How to get HttpContext.Current in ASP.NET Core?

There is a solution to this if you really need a static access to the current context. In Startup.Configure(….)

app.Use(async (httpContext, next) =>
{
    CallContext.LogicalSetData("CurrentContextKey", httpContext);
    try
    {
        await next();
    }
    finally
    {
        CallContext.FreeNamedDataSlot("CurrentContextKey");
    }
});

And when you need it you can get it with :

HttpContext context = CallContext.LogicalGetData("CurrentContextKey") as HttpContext;

I hope that helps. Keep in mind this workaround is when you don’t have a choice. The best practice is to use de dependency injection.

Difference between Python's Generators and Iterators

iterator is a more general concept: any object whose class has a __next__ method (next in Python 2) and an __iter__ method that does return self.

Every generator is an iterator, but not vice versa. A generator is built by calling a function that has one or more yield expressions (yield statements, in Python 2.5 and earlier), and is an object that meets the previous paragraph's definition of an iterator.

You may want to use a custom iterator, rather than a generator, when you need a class with somewhat complex state-maintaining behavior, or want to expose other methods besides __next__ (and __iter__ and __init__). Most often, a generator (sometimes, for sufficiently simple needs, a generator expression) is sufficient, and it's simpler to code because state maintenance (within reasonable limits) is basically "done for you" by the frame getting suspended and resumed.

For example, a generator such as:

def squares(start, stop):
    for i in range(start, stop):
        yield i * i

generator = squares(a, b)

or the equivalent generator expression (genexp)

generator = (i*i for i in range(a, b))

would take more code to build as a custom iterator:

class Squares(object):
    def __init__(self, start, stop):
       self.start = start
       self.stop = stop
    def __iter__(self): return self
    def __next__(self): # next in Python 2
       if self.start >= self.stop:
           raise StopIteration
       current = self.start * self.start
       self.start += 1
       return current

iterator = Squares(a, b)

But, of course, with class Squares you could easily offer extra methods, i.e.

    def current(self):
       return self.start

if you have any actual need for such extra functionality in your application.

Sharing url link does not show thumbnail image on facebook

Your meta tag should look like this:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://ia.media-imdb.com/rock.jpg"/>

And it has to be placed on the page you want to share (this is unclear in your question).

If you have shared the page before the image (or the meta tag) was present, then it is possible, that facebook has the page in its "memory" without an image. In this case simply enter the URL of your page in the debug tool http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug. After that, the image should be present when the page is shared the next time.

How to filter by string in JSONPath?

Your query looks fine, and your data and query work for me using this JsonPath parser. Also see the example queries on that page for more predicate examples.

The testing tool that you're using seems faulty. Even the examples from the JsonPath site are returning incorrect results:

e.g., given:

              "title": "Sword of Honour",
              "price": 12.99
            },
            { "category": "fiction",
              "author": "Herman Melville",
              "title": "Moby Dick",
              "isbn": "0-553-21311-3",
              "price": 8.99
            },
            { "category": "fiction",
              "author": "J. R. R. Tolkien",
              "title": "The Lord of the Rings",
              "isbn": "0-395-19395-8",
              "price": 22.99
            }

            "color": "red",
            "price": 19.95

    }
}

And the expression: $.store.book[?(@.length-1)].title, the tool returns a list of all titles.

"implements Runnable" vs "extends Thread" in Java

By extending the thread class , the derived class can not extend any other base class because java only allow single inheritance. on the contrary, By implementing the runnable interface the class still extend other base class.

The most significant difference between implementing Runnable and extending Thread is given below :

By extending Thread, derived class itself is a thread object, whereas Implementing Runnable interface it shares the same object to multiple Threads.

How to select first child with jQuery?

Try with: $('.onediv').eq(0)

demo jsBin

From the demo: Other examples of selectors and methods targeting the first LI unside an UL:

.eq() Method: $('li').eq(0)
:eq() selector: $('li:eq(0)')
.first() Method $('li').first()
:first selector: $('li:first')
:first-child selector: $('li:first-child')
:lt() selector:$('li:lt(1)')
:nth-child() selector:$('li:nth-child(1)')

jQ + JS:

Array.slice() Method: $('li').slice(0,1)

you can also use [i] to get the JS HTMLelement index out of the jQuery el. (array) collection like eg:

$('li')[0]

now that you have the JS element representation you have to use JS native methods eg:

$('li')[0].className = 'active'; // Adds class "active" to the first LI in the DOM

or you can (don't - it's bad design) wrap it back into a jQuery object

$( $('li')[0] ).addClass('active'); // Don't. Use .eq() instead

If you're using Bootstrap 3, you can use the embed-responsive class and set the padding bottom as the height divided by the width plus a little extra for toolbars. For example, to display an 8.5 by 11 PDF, use 130% (11/8.5) plus a little extra (20%).

<div class='embed-responsive' style='padding-bottom:150%'>
    <object data='URL.pdf' type='application/pdf' width='100%' height='100%'></object>
</div>

Here's the Bootstrap CSS:

.embed-responsive {
    position: relative;
    display: block;
    height: 0;
    padding: 0;
    overflow: hidden;
}

Flask Value error view function did not return a response

You are not returning a response object from your view my_form_post. The function ends with implicit return None, which Flask does not like.

Make the function my_form_post return an explicit response, for example

return 'OK'

at the end of the function.

How to generate the JPA entity Metamodel?

For eclipselink, only the following dependency is sufficient to generate metamodel. Nothing else is needed.

    <dependency>
        <groupId>org.eclipse.persistence</groupId>
        <artifactId>org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.modelgen.processor</artifactId>
        <version>2.5.1</version>
        <scope>provided</scope>
    </dependency>

get the titles of all open windows

Here’s some code you can use to get a list of all the open windows. Actually, you get a dictionary where each item is a KeyValuePair where the key is the handle (hWnd) of the window and the value is its title. It also finds pop-up windows, such as those created by MessageBox.Show.

using System.Runtime.InteropServices;
using HWND = System.IntPtr;

/// <summary>Contains functionality to get all the open windows.</summary>
public static class OpenWindowGetter
{
  /// <summary>Returns a dictionary that contains the handle and title of all the open windows.</summary>
  /// <returns>A dictionary that contains the handle and title of all the open windows.</returns>
  public static IDictionary<HWND, string> GetOpenWindows()
  {
    HWND shellWindow = GetShellWindow();
    Dictionary<HWND, string> windows = new Dictionary<HWND, string>();

    EnumWindows(delegate(HWND hWnd, int lParam)
    {
      if (hWnd == shellWindow) return true;
      if (!IsWindowVisible(hWnd)) return true;

      int length = GetWindowTextLength(hWnd);
      if (length == 0) return true;

      StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(length);
      GetWindowText(hWnd, builder, length + 1);

      windows[hWnd] = builder.ToString();
      return true;

    }, 0);

    return windows;
  }

  private delegate bool EnumWindowsProc(HWND hWnd, int lParam);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern bool EnumWindows(EnumWindowsProc enumFunc, int lParam);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern int GetWindowText(HWND hWnd, StringBuilder lpString, int nMaxCount);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern int GetWindowTextLength(HWND hWnd);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern bool IsWindowVisible(HWND hWnd);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern IntPtr GetShellWindow();
}

And here’s some code that uses it:

foreach(KeyValuePair<IntPtr, string> window in OpenWindowGetter.GetOpenWindows())
{
  IntPtr handle = window.Key;
  string title = window.Value;

  Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", handle, title);
}

What is an IndexOutOfRangeException / ArgumentOutOfRangeException and how do I fix it?

A side from the very long complete accepted answer there is an important point to make about IndexOutOfRangeException compared with many other exception types, and that is:

Often there is complex program state that maybe difficult to have control over at a particular point in code e.g a DB connection goes down so data for an input cannot be retrieved etc... This kind of issue often results in an Exception of some kind that has to bubble up to a higher level because where it occurs has no way of dealing with it at that point.

IndexOutOfRangeException is generally different in that it in most cases it is pretty trivial to check for at the point where the exception is being raised. Generally this kind of exception get thrown by some code that could very easily deal with the issue at the place it is occurring - just by checking the actual length of the array. You don't want to 'fix' this by handling this exception higher up - but instead by ensuring its not thrown in the first instance - which in most cases is easy to do by checking the array length.

Another way of putting this is that other exceptions can arise due to genuine lack of control over input or program state BUT IndexOutOfRangeException more often than not is simply just pilot (programmer) error.

Skip certain tables with mysqldump

I like Rubo77's solution, I hadn't seen it before I modified Paul's. This one will backup a single database, excluding any tables you don't want. It will then gzip it, and delete any files over 8 days old. I will probably use 2 versions of this that do a full (minus logs table) once a day, and another that just backs up the most important tables that change the most every hour using a couple cron jobs.

#!/bin/sh
PASSWORD=XXXX
HOST=127.0.0.1
USER=root
DATABASE=MyFavoriteDB

now="$(date +'%d_%m_%Y_%H_%M')"
filename="${DATABASE}_db_backup_$now"
backupfolder="/opt/backups/mysql"
DB_FILE="$backupfolder/$filename"
logfile="$backupfolder/"backup_log_"$(date +'%Y_%m')".txt

Structure padding and packing

Data structure alignment is the way data is arranged and accessed in computer memory. It consists of two separate but related issues: data alignment and data structure padding. When a modern computer reads from or writes to a memory address, it will do this in word sized chunks (e.g. 4 byte chunks on a 32-bit system) or larger. Data alignment means putting the data at a memory address equal to some multiple of the word size, which increases the system’s performance due to the way the CPU handles memory. To align the data, it may be necessary to insert some meaningless bytes between the end of the last data structure and the start of the next, which is data structure padding.

  1. In order to align the data in memory, one or more empty bytes (addresses) are inserted (or left empty) between memory addresses which are allocated for other structure members while memory allocation. This concept is called structure padding.
  2. Architecture of a computer processor is such a way that it can read 1 word (4 byte in 32 bit processor) from memory at a time.
  3. To make use of this advantage of processor, data are always aligned as 4 bytes package which leads to insert empty addresses between other member’s address.
  4. Because of this structure padding concept in C, size of the structure is always not same as what we think.

Streaming a video file to an html5 video player with Node.js so that the video controls continue to work?

The Accept Ranges header (the bit in writeHead()) is required for the HTML5 video controls to work.

I think instead of just blindly send the full file, you should first check the Accept Ranges header in the REQUEST, then read in and send just that bit. fs.createReadStream support start, and end option for that.

So I tried an example and it works. The code is not pretty but it is easy to understand. First we process the range header to get the start/end position. Then we use fs.stat to get the size of the file without reading the whole file into memory. Finally, use fs.createReadStream to send the requested part to the client.

var fs = require("fs"),
    http = require("http"),
    url = require("url"),
    path = require("path");

http.createServer(function (req, res) {
  if (req.url != "/movie.mp4") {
    res.writeHead(200, { "Content-Type": "text/html" });
    res.end('<video src="http://localhost:8888/movie.mp4" controls></video>');
  } else {
    var file = path.resolve(__dirname,"movie.mp4");
    fs.stat(file, function(err, stats) {
      if (err) {
        if (err.code === 'ENOENT') {
          // 404 Error if file not found
          return res.sendStatus(404);
        }
      res.end(err);
      }
      var range = req.headers.range;
      if (!range) {
       // 416 Wrong range
       return res.sendStatus(416);
      }
      var positions = range.replace(/bytes=/, "").split("-");
      var start = parseInt(positions[0], 10);
      var total = stats.size;
      var end = positions[1] ? parseInt(positions[1], 10) : total - 1;
      var chunksize = (end - start) + 1;

      res.writeHead(206, {
        "Content-Range": "bytes " + start + "-" + end + "/" + total,
        "Accept-Ranges": "bytes",
        "Content-Length": chunksize,
        "Content-Type": "video/mp4"
      });

      var stream = fs.createReadStream(file, { start: start, end: end })
        .on("open", function() {
          stream.pipe(res);
        }).on("error", function(err) {
          res.end(err);
        });
    });
  }
}).listen(8888);

How to run C program on Mac OS X using Terminal?

To do this:

  1. open terminal

  2. type in the terminal: nano ; which is a text editor available for the terminal. when you do this. something like this would appear.

  3. here you can type in your C program

  4. type in control(^) + x -> which means to exit.

  5. save the file by typing in y to save the file

  6. write the file name; e.g. helloStack.c (don't forget to add .c)

  7. when this appears, type in gcc helloStack.c

  8. then ./a.out: this should give you your result!!

How do I implement IEnumerable<T>

You probably do not want an explicit implementation of IEnumerable<T> (which is what you've shown).

The usual pattern is to use IEnumerable<T>'s GetEnumerator in the explicit implementation of IEnumerable:

class FooCollection : IEnumerable<Foo>, IEnumerable
{
    SomeCollection<Foo> foos;

    // Explicit for IEnumerable because weakly typed collections are Bad
    System.Collections.IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator()
    {
        // uses the strongly typed IEnumerable<T> implementation
        return this.GetEnumerator();
    }

    // Normal implementation for IEnumerable<T>
    IEnumerator<Foo> GetEnumerator()
    {
        foreach (Foo foo in this.foos)
        {
            yield return foo;
            //nb: if SomeCollection is not strongly-typed use a cast:
            // yield return (Foo)foo;
            // Or better yet, switch to an internal collection which is
            // strongly-typed. Such as List<T> or T[], your choice.
        }

        // or, as pointed out: return this.foos.GetEnumerator();
    }
}

How do I update an entity using spring-data-jpa?

Specifically how do I tell spring-data-jpa that users that have the same username and firstname are actually EQUAL and that it is supposed to update the entity. Overriding equals did not work.

For this particular purpose one can introduce a composite key like this:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `test`.`user` (
  `username` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL,
  `firstname` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL,
  `description` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`username`, `firstname`))

Mapping:

@Embeddable
public class UserKey implements Serializable {
    protected String username;
    protected String firstname;

    public UserKey() {}

    public UserKey(String username, String firstname) {
        this.username = username;
        this.firstname = firstname;
    }
    // equals, hashCode
}

Here is how to use it:

@Entity
public class UserEntity implements Serializable {
    @EmbeddedId
    private UserKey primaryKey;

    private String description;

    //...
}

JpaRepository would look like this:

public interface UserEntityRepository extends JpaRepository<UserEntity, UserKey>

Then, you could use the following idiom: accept DTO with user info, extract name and firstname and create UserKey, then create a UserEntity with this composite key and then invoke Spring Data save() which should sort everything out for you.

laravel throwing MethodNotAllowedHttpException

Laravel sometimes does not support {!! Form::open(['url' => 'posts/store']) !!} for security reasons. That's why the error has happened. You can solve this error by simply replacing the below code

{!! Form::open(array('route' => 'posts.store')) !!}

Error Code {!! Form::open(['url' => 'posts/store']) !!}

Correct Code {!! Form::open(array('route' => 'posts.store')) !!}

Codeigniter unset session

answering to your question:

How can I destroy or unset the value of the session?

I can help you by this:

$this->session->unset_userdata('some_name');

and for multiple data you can:

$array_items = array('username' => '', 'email' => '');

$this->session->unset_userdata($array_items);

and to destroy the session:

$this->session->sess_destroy();

Now for the on page change part (on the top of my mind):

you can set the config "anchor_class" of the paginator equal to the classname you want.

after that just check it with jquery onclick for that class which will send a head up to the controller function that will unset the user session.

How to use Macro argument as string literal?

Establish a VPN connection in cmd

Is Powershell an option?

Start Powershell:

powershell

Create the VPN Connection: Add-VpnConnection

Add-VpnConnection [-Name] <string> [-ServerAddress] <string> [-TunnelType <string> {Pptp | L2tp | Sstp | Ikev2 | Automatic}] [-EncryptionLevel <string> {NoEncryption | Optional | Required | Maximum}] [-AuthenticationMethod <string[]> {Pap | Chap | MSChapv2 | Eap}] [-SplitTunneling] [-AllUserConnection] [-L2tpPsk <string>] [-RememberCredential] [-UseWinlogonCredential] [-EapConfigXmlStream <xml>] [-Force] [-PassThru] [-WhatIf] [-Confirm]

Edit VPN connections: Set-VpnConnection

Set-VpnConnection [-Name] <string> [[-ServerAddress] <string>] [-TunnelType <string> {Pptp | L2tp | Sstp | Ikev2 | Automatic}] [-EncryptionLevel <string> {NoEncryption | Optional | Required | Maximum}] [-AuthenticationMethod <string[]> {Pap | Chap | MSChapv2 | Eap}] [-SplitTunneling <bool>] [-AllUserConnection] [-L2tpPsk <string>] [-RememberCredential <bool>] [-UseWinlogonCredential <bool>] [-EapConfigXmlStream <xml>] [-PassThru] [-Force] [-WhatIf] [-Confirm]

Lookup VPN Connections: Get-VpnConnection

Get-VpnConnection [[-Name] <string[]>] [-AllUserConnection]

Connect: rasdial [connectionName]

rasdial connectionname [username [password | \]] [/domain:domain*] [/phone:phonenumber] [/callback:callbacknumber] [/phonebook:phonebookpath] [/prefixsuffix**]

You can manage your VPN connections with the powershell commands above, and simply use the connection name to connect via rasdial.

The results of Get-VpnConnection can be a little verbose. This can be simplified with a simple Select-Object filter:

Get-VpnConnection | Select-Object -Property Name

Meaning of "n:m" and "1:n" in database design

n:m --> if you dont know both n and m it is simply many to many and it is represented by a bridge table between 2 other tables like

   -- This table will hold our phone calls.
CREATE TABLE dbo.PhoneCalls
(
   ID INT IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL,
   CallTime DATETIME NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
   CallerPhoneNumber CHAR(10) NOT NULL
)

-- This table will hold our "tickets" (or cases).
CREATE TABLE dbo.Tickets
(
   ID INT IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL,
   CreatedTime DATETIME NOT NULL DEFAULT GETDATE(),
   Subject VARCHAR(250) NOT NULL,
   Notes VARCHAR(8000) NOT NULL,
   Completed BIT NOT NULL DEFAULT 0
)

this is the bridge table for implementing Mapping between 2 tables

CREATE TABLE dbo.PhoneCalls_Tickets
(
   PhoneCallID INT NOT NULL,
   TicketID INT NOT NULL
)

One to Many (1:n) is simply one table which has a column as primary key and another table which has this column as a foreign key relationship

Kind of like Product and Product Category where one product Category can have Many products

How to pass the values from one jsp page to another jsp without submit button?

I dont exactly know what you want to do.But you cant send data of one form using a submit button of another form.

You could do one thing either use sessions or use hidden fields that has the submit button. You could use javascript/jquery to pass the values from the first form to the hidden fields of the second form.Then you could submit the form.

Or else the easiest you could do is use sessions.

<form>
<input type="text" class="input-text " value="" size="32" name="user_data[firstname]" id="elm_6">
<input type="text" class="input-text " value="" size="32" name="user_data[lastname]" id="elm_7">
</form>

<form action="#">
<input type="text" class="input-text " value="" size="32" name="user_data[b_firstname]" id="elm_14">
<input type="text" class="input-text " value="" size="32" name="user_data[s_firstname]" id="elm_16">

<input type="submit" value="Continue" name="dispatch[checkout.update_steps]">
</form>

$('input[type=submit]').click(function(){
$('#elm_14').val($('#elm_6').val());
$('#elm_16').val($('#elm_7').val());
});

This is the jsfiddle for it http://jsfiddle.net/FPsdy/102/

How can I get href links from HTML using Python?

My answer probably sucks compared to the real gurus out there, but using some simple math, string slicing, find and urllib, this little script will create a list containing link elements. I test google and my output seems right. Hope it helps!

import urllib
test = urllib.urlopen("http://www.google.com").read()
sane = 0
needlestack = []
while sane == 0:
  curpos = test.find("href")
  if curpos >= 0:
    testlen = len(test)
    test = test[curpos:testlen]
    curpos = test.find('"')
    testlen = len(test)
    test = test[curpos+1:testlen]
    curpos = test.find('"')
    needle = test[0:curpos]
    if needle.startswith("http" or "www"):
        needlestack.append(needle)
  else:
    sane = 1
for item in needlestack:
  print item

ActionBarActivity cannot resolve a symbol

Follow the steps mentioned for using support ActionBar in Android Studio(0.4.2) :

Download the Android Support Repository from Android SDK Manager, SDK Manager icon will be available on Android Studio tool bar (or Tools -> Android -> SDK Manager).

enter image description here

After download you will find your Support repository here

$SDK_DIR\extras\android\m2repository\com\android\support\appcompat-v7

Open your main module's build.gradle file and add following dependency for using action bar in lower API level

dependencies {
    compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:+'
}

Sync your project with gradle using the tiny Gradle icon available in toolbar (or Tools -> Android -> Sync Project With Gradle Files).

There is some issue going on with Android Studio 0.4.2 so check this as well if you face any issue while importing classes in code.

Import Google Play Services library in Android Studio

If Required follow the steps as well :

  • Exit Android Studio
  • Delete all the .iml files and files inside .idea folder from your project
  • Relaunch Android Studio and wait till the project synced completely with gradle. If it shows an error in Event Log with import option click on Import Project.

This is bug in Android Studio 0.4.2 and fixed for Android Studio 0.4.3 release.

Removing display of row names from data frame

Spring Boot Adding Http Request Interceptors

WebMvcConfigurerAdapter will be deprecated with Spring 5. From its Javadoc:

@deprecated as of 5.0 {@link WebMvcConfigurer} has default methods (made possible by a Java 8 baseline) and can be implemented directly without the need for this adapter

As stated above, what you should do is implementing WebMvcConfigurer and overriding addInterceptors method.

@Configuration
public class WebMvcConfig implements WebMvcConfigurer {

    @Override
    public void addInterceptors(InterceptorRegistry registry) {
        registry.addInterceptor(new MyCustomInterceptor());
    }
}

How to find the location of the Scheduled Tasks folder

Tasks are saved in filesystem AND registry

Tasks are stored in 3 locations: 1 file system location and 2 registry locations.

File system:

C:\Windows\System32\Tasks

Registry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\Taskcache\Tasks
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\Taskcache\Tree

So, you need to delete a corrupted task in these 3 locations.

What is token-based authentication?

From Auth0.com

Token-Based Authentication, relies on a signed token that is sent to the server on each request.

What are the benefits of using a token-based approach?

  • Cross-domain / CORS: cookies + CORS don't play well across different domains. A token-based approach allows you to make AJAX calls to any server, on any domain because you use an HTTP header to transmit the user information.

  • Stateless (a.k.a. Server side scalability): there is no need to keep a session store, the token is a self-contained entity that conveys all the user information. The rest of the state lives in cookies or local storage on the client side.

  • CDN: you can serve all the assets of your app from a CDN (e.g. javascript, HTML, images, etc.), and your server side is just the API.

  • Decoupling: you are not tied to any particular authentication scheme. The token might be generated anywhere, hence your API can be called from anywhere with a single way of authenticating those calls.

  • Mobile ready: when you start working on a native platform (iOS, Android, Windows 8, etc.) cookies are not ideal when consuming a token-based approach simplifies this a lot.

  • CSRF: since you are not relying on cookies, you don't need to protect against cross site requests (e.g. it would not be possible to sib your site, generate a POST request and re-use the existing authentication cookie because there will be none).

  • Performance: we are not presenting any hard perf benchmarks here, but a network roundtrip (e.g. finding a session on database) is likely to take more time than calculating an HMACSHA256 to validate a token and parsing its contents.

Applying .gitignore to committed files

Follow these steps:

  1. Add path to gitignore file

  2. Run this command

    git rm -r --cached foldername

  3. commit changes as usually.

How to write a SQL DELETE statement with a SELECT statement in the WHERE clause?

in this scenario:

DELETE FROM tableA
WHERE (SELECT q.entitynum
FROM tableA q
INNER JOIN tableB u on (u.qlabel = q.entityrole AND u.fieldnum = q.fieldnum)
WHERE (LENGTH(q.memotext) NOT IN (8,9,10)
OR q.memotext NOT LIKE '%/%/%')
AND (u.FldFormat = 'Date'));

aren't you missing the column you want to compare to? example:

DELETE FROM tableA
WHERE entitynum in (SELECT q.entitynum
FROM tableA q
INNER JOIN tableB u on (u.qlabel = q.entityrole AND u.fieldnum = q.fieldnum)
WHERE (LENGTH(q.memotext) NOT IN (8,9,10)
OR q.memotext NOT LIKE '%/%/%')
AND (u.FldFormat = 'Date'));

I assume it's that column since in your select statement you're selecting from the same table you're wanting to delete from with that column.

Writing List of Strings to Excel CSV File in Python

The csv.writer writerow method takes an iterable as an argument. Your result set has to be a list (rows) of lists (columns).

csvwriter.writerow(row)

Write the row parameter to the writer’s file object, formatted according to the current dialect.

Do either:

import csv
RESULTS = [
    ['apple','cherry','orange','pineapple','strawberry']
]
with open('output.csv','wb') as result_file:
    wr = csv.writer(result_file, dialect='excel')
    wr.writerows(RESULTS)

or:

import csv
RESULT = ['apple','cherry','orange','pineapple','strawberry']
with open('output.csv','wb') as result_file:
    wr = csv.writer(result_file, dialect='excel')
    wr.writerow(RESULT)

Description Box using "onmouseover"

I'd try doing this with jQuery's .hover() event handler system, it makes it easy to show a div with the tooltip when the mouse is over the text, and hide it once it's gone.

Here's a simple example.

HTML:

?<p id="testText">Some Text</p>
<div id="tooltip">Tooltip Hint Text</div>???????????????????????????????????????????

Basic CSS:

?#?tooltip {
display:none;
border:1px solid #F00;
width:150px;
}?

jQuery:

$("#testText").hover(
   function(e){
       $("#tooltip").show();
   },
   function(e){
       $("#tooltip").hide();
  });??????????

How to get equal width of input and select fields

I tried Gaby's answer (+1) above but it only partially solved my problem. Instead I used the following CSS, where content-box was changed to border-box:

input, select {

Using Python Requests: Sessions, Cookies, and POST

I don't know how stubhub's api works, but generally it should look like this:

s = requests.Session()
data = {"login":"my_login", "password":"my_password"}
url = "http://example.net/login"
r = s.post(url, data=data)

Now your session contains cookies provided by login form. To access cookies of this session simply use

s.cookies

Any further actions like another requests will have this cookie

What are .iml files in Android Studio?

They are project files, that hold the module information and meta data.

SQL - select distinct only on one column

A very typical approach to this type of problem is to use row_number():

select t.*
from (select t.*,
             row_number() over (partition by number order by id) as seqnum
      from t
     ) t
where seqnum = 1;

This is more generalizable than using a comparison to the minimum id. For instance, you can get a random row by using order by newid(). You can select 2 rows by using where seqnum <= 2.

Select last N rows from MySQL

SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY id DESC,datechat desc LIMIT 50

If you have a date field that is storing the date(and time) on which the chat was sent or any field that is filled with incrementally(order by DESC) or desinscrementally( order by ASC) data per row put it as second column on which the data should be order.

That's what worked for me!!!! hope it will help!!!!

Hash function that produces short hashes?

You can use any commonly available hash algorithm (eg. SHA-1), which will give you a slightly longer result than what you need. Simply truncate the result to the desired length, which may be good enough.

For example, in Python:

>>> import hashlib
>>> hash = hashlib.sha1("my message".encode("UTF-8")).hexdigest()
>>> hash
'104ab42f1193c336aa2cf08a2c946d5c6fd0fcdb'
>>> hash[:10]
'104ab42f11'

How can I format date by locale in Java?

Yes, using DateFormat.getDateInstance(int style, Locale aLocale) This displays the current date in a locale-specific way.

So, for example:

DateFormat df = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.SHORT, yourLocale);
String formattedDate = df.format(yourDate);

See the docs for the exact meaning of the style parameter (SHORT, MEDIUM, etc)

How to upload multiple files using PHP, jQuery and AJAX

HTML

ASP.NET MVC Html.DropDownList SelectedValue

The code in the previous MVC 3 post does not work but it is a good start. I will fix it. I have tested this code and it works in MVC 3 Razor C# This code uses the ViewModel pattern to populate a property that returns a List<SelectListItem>.

The Model class

public class Product
{
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public decimal Price { get; set; }
}

The ViewModel class

using System.Web.Mvc;

public class ProductListviewModel
{
    public List<SelectListItem> Products { get; set; }
}

The Controller Method

public ViewResult List()
{
    var productList = new List<SelectListItem>();

    foreach (Product p in Products)
    {
        productList.Add(new SelectListItem
        {
            Value = p.ProductId.ToString(),
            Text = "Product: " + p.Name + " " + p.Price.ToString(),
            // To set the selected item use the following code
            // Note: you should not set every item to selected
            Selected = true
        });
    }

    ProductListViewModel productListVM = new ProductListViewModeld();

    productListVM.Products = productList;

    return View(productListVM);
}

The view

@model MvcApp.ViewModels.ProductListViewModel

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.DropDownList("Products", Model.Products)
}

The HTML output will be something like

<select id="Products" name="Products">
    <option value="3">Product: Widget 10.00</option>
    <option value="4">Product: Gadget 5.95</option>
</select>

depending on how you format the output. I hope this helps. The code does work.

Get IP address of visitors using Flask for Python

Proxies can make this a little tricky, make sure to check out ProxyFix (Flask docs) if you are using one. Take a look at request.environ in your particular environment. With nginx I will sometimes do something like this:

from flask import request
request.environ.get('HTTP_X_REAL_IP', request.remote_addr)

When proxies, such as nginx, forward addresses, they typically include the original IP somewhere in the request headers.

Update See the flask-security implementation. Again, review the documentation about ProxyFix before implementing. Your solution may vary based on your particular environment.

How to convert string to boolean in typescript Angular 4

In your scenario, converting a string to a boolean can be done via something like someString === 'true' (as was already answered).

However, let me try to address your main issue: dealing with the local storage.

The local storage only supports strings as values; a good way of using it would thus be to always serialise your data as a string before storing it in the storage, and reversing the process when fetching it.

A possibly decent format for serialising your data in is JSON, since it is very easy to deal with in JavaScript.

The following functions could thus be used to interact with local storage, provided that your data can be serialised into JSON.

function setItemInStorage(key, item) {
  localStorage.setItem(key, JSON.stringify(item));
}

function getItemFromStorage(key) {
  return JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem(key));
}

Your example could then be rewritten as:

setItemInStorage('CheckOutPageReload', [this.btnLoginNumOne, this.btnLoginEdit]);

And:

if (getItemFromStorage('CheckOutPageReload')) {
  const pageLoadParams = getItemFromStorage('CheckOutPageReload');
  this.btnLoginNumOne = pageLoadParams[0];
  this.btnLoginEdit = pageLoadParams[1];
}

Setting an HTML text input box's "default" value. Revert the value when clicking ESC

This esc behavior is IE only by the way. Instead of using jQuery use good old javascript for creating the element and it works.

var element = document.createElement('input');
element.type = 'text';
element.value = 100;
document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(element);

http://jsfiddle.net/gGrf9/

If you want to extend this functionality to other browsers then I would use jQuery's data object to store the default. Then set it when user presses escape.

//store default value for all elements on page. set new default on blur
$('input').each( function() {
    $(this).data('default', $(this).val());
    $(this).blur( function() { $(this).data('default', $(this).val()); });
});

$('input').keyup( function(e) {
    if (e.keyCode == 27) { $(this).val($(this).data('default')); }
});

Reading output of a command into an array in Bash

Here is an example. Imagine that you are going to put the files and directory names (under the current folder) to an array and count its items. The script would be like;

my_array=( `ls` )
my_array_length=${#my_array[@]}
echo $my_array_length

Or, you can iterate over this array by adding the following script:

for element in "${my_array[@]}"
do
   echo "${element}"
done

Please note that this is the core concept and the input is considered to be sanitized before, i.e. removing extra characters, handling empty Strings, and etc. (which is out of the topic of this thread).

Convert String to equivalent Enum value

Hope you realise, java.util.Enumeration is different from the Java 1.5 Enum types.

You can simply use YourEnum.valueOf("String") to get the equivalent enum type.

Thus if your enum is defined as so:

public enum Day {
    SUNDAY, MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY,
    THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY
}

You could do this:

String day = "SUNDAY";

Day dayEnum = Day.valueOf(day);

How to get MAC address of client using PHP?

Here's a possible way to do it:

$string=exec('getmac');
$mac=substr($string, 0, 17);
echo $mac;

Why would I use dirname(__FILE__) in an include or include_once statement?

I might have even a simpler explanation to this question compared to the accepted answer so I'm going to give it a go: Assume this is the structure of the files and directories of a project:

Project root directory:
                       file1.php
                       file3.php
                       dir1/
                            file2.php

(dir1 is a directory and file2.php is inside it)

And this is the content of each of the three files above:

//file1.php:
<?php include "dir1/file2.php"

//file2.php:
<?php include "../file3.php"

//file3.php:
<?php echo "Hello, Test!";

Now run file1.php and try to guess what should happen. You might expect to see "Hello, Test!", however, it won't be shown! What you'll get instead will be an error indicating that the file you have requested(file3.php) does not exist!

The reason is that, inside file1.php when you include file2.php, the content of it is getting copied and then pasted back directly into file1.php which is inside the root directory, thus this part "../file3.php" runs from the root directory and thus goes one directory up the root! (and obviously it won't find the file3.php).

Now, what should we do ?!

Relative paths of course have the problem above, so we have to use absolute paths. However, absolute paths have also one problem. If you (for example) copy the root folder (containing your whole project) and paste it in anywhere else on your computer, the paths will be invalid from that point on! And that'll be a REAL MESS!

So we kind of need paths that are both absolute and dynamic(Each file dynamically finds the absolute path of itself wherever we place it)!

The way we do that is by getting help from PHP, and dirname() is the function to go for, which gives the absolute path to the directory in which a file exists in. And each file name could also be easily accessed using the __FILE__ constant. So dirname(__FILE__) would easily give you the absolute (while dynamic!) path to the file we're typing in the above code. Now move your whole project to a new place, or even a new system, and tada! it works!

So now if we turn the project above to this:

//file1.php:
<?php include(dirname(__FILE__)."/dir1/file2.php");

//file2.php:
<?php include(dirname(__FILE__)."/../file3.php");

//file3.php:
<?php echo "Hello, Test!";

if you run it, you'll see the almighty Hello, Test!! (hopefully, if you've not done anything else wrong).

It's also worth mentioning that from PHP5, a nicer way(with regards to readability and preventing eye boilage!) has been provided by PHP as well which is the constant __DIR__ which does exactly the same thing as dirname(__FILE__)!

Hope that helps.

What is the difference between varchar and nvarchar?

Since SQL Server 2019 varchar columns support UTF-8 encoding.

Thus, from now on, the difference is size.

In a database system that translates to difference in speed.

Less size = Less IO + Less Memory = More speed in general. Read the article above for the numbers.

Go for varchar in UTF8 from now on!

Only if you have big percentage of data with characters in ranges 2048 - 16383 and 16384 – 65535 - you will have to measure

Is it necessary to assign a string to a variable before comparing it to another?

Brian, also worth throwing in here - the others are of course correct that you don't need to declare a string variable. However, next time you want to declare a string you don't need to do the following:

NSString *myString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"SomeText"];

Although the above does work, it provides a retained NSString variable which you will then need to explicitly release after you've finished using it.

Next time you want a string variable you can use the "@" symbol in a much more convenient way:

NSString *myString = @"SomeText";

This will be autoreleased when you've finished with it so you'll avoid memory leaks too...

Hope that helps!

Why is Visual Studio 2010 not able to find/open PDB files?

Then enable Microsoft Symbol Servers in Debug->options and settings->debug->symbols

Defining private module functions in python

For methods: (I am not sure if this exactly what you want)

print_thrice.py

def private(method):
    def methodist(string):
        if __name__ == "__main__":
            method(string)
    return methodist

@private
def private_print3(string):
    print(string * 3)

private_print3("Hello ") # output: Hello Hello Hello

other_file.py

from print_thrice import private_print3
private_print3("Hello From Another File? ") # no output

This is probably not a perfect solution, as you can still "see" and/or "call" the method. Regardless, it doesn't execute.

How to access host port from docker container

You can access the local webserver which is running in your host machine in two ways.

  1. Approach 1 with public IP

    Use host machine public IP address to access webserver in Jenkins docker container.

  2. Approach 2 with the host network

    Use "--net host" to add the Jenkins docker container on the host's network stack. Containers which are deployed on host's stack have entire access to the host interface. You can access local webserver in docker container with a private IP address of the host machine.

Just add class "show" to the collapsing element's class, bootstrap will use js dynamically to remove it to collapse and show

python: creating list from string

If you need to convert some of them to numbers and don't know in advance which ones, some additional code will be needed. Try something like this:

b = []
for x in a:
    temp = []
    items = x.split(",")
    for item in items:
        try:
            n = int(item)
        except ValueError:
            temp.append(item)
        else:
            temp.append(n)
    b.append(temp)

This is longer than the other answers, but it's more versatile.

How can I create a correlation matrix in R?

Have a look at qtlcharts. It allows you to create interactive correlation matrices:

It's more impressive when you correlate more variables, like in the package's vignette: enter image description here

How to allow all Network connection types HTTP and HTTPS in Android (9) Pie?

Easy Way

Add usesCleartextTraffic to AndroidManifest.xml

<application
...
android:usesCleartextTraffic="true"
...>

Indicates whether the app intends to use cleartext network traffic, such as cleartext HTTP. The default value for apps that target API level 27 or lower is "true". Apps that target API level 28 or higher default to "false".

Collapsing Sidebar with Bootstrap

http://getbootstrap.com/examples/offcanvas/

This is the official example, may be better for some. It is under their Experiments examples section, but since it is official, it should be kept up to date with the current bootstrap release.

Looks like they have added an off canvas css file used in their example:

http://getbootstrap.com/examples/offcanvas/offcanvas.css

And some JS code:

$(document).ready(function () {
  $('[data-toggle="offcanvas"]').click(function () {
    $('.row-offcanvas').toggleClass('active')
  });
});

in angularjs how to access the element that triggered the event?

There is a solution using $element in the controller if you don't want to create another directive for this problem:

appControllers.controller('YourCtrl', ['$scope', '$timeout', '$element',
        function($scope, $timeout, $element) {

    $scope.updateTypeahead = function() {
       // ... some logic here
       $timeout(function() {
           $element[0].getElementsByClassName('search-query')[0].focus();
           // if you have unique id you can use $window instead of $element:
           // $window.document.getElementById('searchText').focus();
       });
    }
}]);

And this will work with ng-change:

<input id="searchText" type="text" class="search-query" ng-change="updateTypeahead()" ng-model="searchText" />

Real world use of JMS/message queues?

I have seen JMS used in different commercial and academic projects. JMS can easily come into your picture, whenever you want to have a totally decoupled distributed systems. Generally speaking, when you need to send your request from one node, and someone in your network takes care of it without/with giving the sender any information about the receiver.

In my case, I have used JMS in developing a message-oriented middleware (MOM) in my thesis, where specific types of object-oriented objects are generated in one side as your request, and compiled and executed on the other side as your response.

Add ArrayList to another ArrayList in java

Then you need a ArrayList of ArrayLists:

ArrayList<ArrayList<String>> nodes = new ArrayList<ArrayList<String>>();
ArrayList<String> nodeList = new ArrayList<String>();
nodes.add(nodeList);

Note that NodeList has been changed to nodeList. In Java Naming Conventions variables start with a lower case. Classes start with an upper case.

How can I create a "Please Wait, Loading..." animation using jQuery?

SVG animations are probably a better solution to this problem. You won't need to worry about writing CSS and compared to GIFs, you'll get better resolution and alpha transparency. Some very good SVG loading animations that you can use are here: http://samherbert.net/svg-loaders/

You can also use those animations directly through a service I built: https://svgbox.net/iconset/loaders. It allows you to customize the fill and direct usage (hotlinking) is permitted.

To accomplish what you want to do with jQuery, you probably should have a loading info element hidden and use .show() when you want to show the loader. For eg, this code shows the loader after one second:

_x000D_
_x000D_
setTimeout(function() {
  $("#load").show();
}, 1000)
_x000D_
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.0/jquery.min.js"></script>

<div id="load" style="display:none">
    Please wait...
    <img src="//s.svgbox.net/loaders.svg?fill=maroon&ic=tail-spin"
         style="width:24px">
</div>

Exit a Script On Error

If you want to be able to handle an error instead of blindly exiting, instead of using set -e, use a trap on the ERR pseudo signal.

#!/bin/bash
f () {
    errorCode=$? # save the exit code as the first thing done in the trap function
    echo "error $errorCode"
    echo "the command executing at the time of the error was"
    echo "$BASH_COMMAND"
    echo "on line ${BASH_LINENO[0]}"
    # do some error handling, cleanup, logging, notification
    # $BASH_COMMAND contains the command that was being executed at the time of the trap
    # ${BASH_LINENO[0]} contains the line number in the script of that command
    # exit the script or return to try again, etc.
    exit $errorCode # or use some other value or do return instead
}
trap f ERR
# do some stuff
false # returns 1 so it triggers the trap
# maybe do some other stuff

Other traps can be set to handle other signals, including the usual Unix signals plus the other Bash pseudo signals RETURN and DEBUG.

How to set up devices for VS Code for a Flutter emulator

To select a device you must first start both, android studio and your virtual device. Then visual studio code will display that virtual device as an option.

How to filter a RecyclerView with a SearchView

I recommend modify the solution of @Xaver Kapeller with 2 things below to avoid a problem after you cleared the searched text (the filter didn't work anymore) due to the list back of adapter has smaller size than filter list and the IndexOutOfBoundsException happened. So the code need to modify as below

public void addItem(int position, ExampleModel model) {
    if(position >= mModel.size()) {
        mModel.add(model);
        notifyItemInserted(mModel.size()-1);
    } else {
        mModels.add(position, model);
        notifyItemInserted(position);
    }
}

And modify also in moveItem functionality

public void moveItem(int fromPosition, int toPosition) {
    final ExampleModel model = mModels.remove(fromPosition);
    if(toPosition >= mModels.size()) {
        mModels.add(model);
        notifyItemMoved(fromPosition, mModels.size()-1);
    } else {
        mModels.add(toPosition, model);
        notifyItemMoved(fromPosition, toPosition);
    }
}

Hope that It could help you!

JavaScript - cannot set property of undefined

In javascript almost everything is an object, null and undefined are exception.

Instances of Array is an object. so you can set property of an array, for the same reason,you can't set property of a undefined, because its NOT an object

How to find the type of an object in Go?

I found 3 ways to return a variable's type at runtime:

Using string formatting

func typeof(v interface{}) string {
    return fmt.Sprintf("%T", v)
}

Using reflect package

func typeof(v interface{}) string {
    return reflect.TypeOf(v).String()
}

Using type assertions

func typeof(v interface{}) string {
    switch v.(type) {
    case int:
        return "int"
    case float64:
        return "float64"
    //... etc
    default:
        return "unknown"
    }
}

Every method has a different best use case:

  • string formatting - short and low footprint (not necessary to import reflect package)

  • reflect package - when need more details about the type we have access to the full reflection capabilities

  • type assertions - allows grouping types, for example recognize all int32, int64, uint32, uint64 types as "int"

How to undo last commit

Warning: Don't do this if you've already pushed

You want to do:

git reset HEAD~

If you don't want the changes and blow everything away:

git reset --hard HEAD~

The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character

Very possibly it's getting converted to a modified Base64, where the + and / characters are changed to - and _. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base64#Implementations_and_history

If that's the case, you need to change it back:

string converted = base64String.Replace('-', '+');
converted = converted.Replace('_', '/');

Using JavaMail with TLS

As a small note, it only started to work for me when I changed smtp to smtps in the examples above per samples from javamail (see smtpsend.java, https://github.com/javaee/javamail/releases/download/JAVAMAIL-1_6_2/javamail-samples.zip, option -S).

My resulting code is as follow:

Properties props=new Properties();
props.put("mail.smtps.starttls.enable","true");
// Use the following if you need SSL
props.put("mail.smtps.socketFactory.port", port);
props.put("mail.smtps.socketFactory.class", "javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory");
props.put("mail.smtps.socketFactory.fallback", "false");
props.put("mail.smtps.host", serverList.get(randNum));
Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props);

smtpConnectionPool = new SmtpConnectionPool(
    SmtpConnectionFactories.newSmtpFactory(session));

final ClosableSmtpConnection transport = smtpConnectionPool.borrowObject();
...
transport.sendMessage(message, message.getAllRecipients());

How do I escape ampersands in XML so they are rendered as entities in HTML?

The & character is itself an escape character in XML so the solution is to concatenate it and a Unicode decimal equivalent for & thus ensuring that there are no XML parsing errors. That is, replace the character & with &#038;.

How to decrypt hash stored by bcrypt

You're HASHING, not ENCRYPTING!

What's the difference?

The difference is that hashing is a one way function, where encryption is a two-way function.

So, how do you ascertain that the password is right?

Therefore, when a user submits a password, you don't decrypt your stored hash, instead you perform the same bcrypt operation on the user input and compare the hashes. If they're identical, you accept the authentication.

Should you hash or encrypt passwords?

What you're doing now -- hashing the passwords -- is correct. If you were to simply encrypt passwords, a breach of security of your application could allow a malicious user to trivially learn all user passwords. If you hash (or better, salt and hash) passwords, the user needs to crack passwords (which is computationally expensive on bcrypt) to gain that knowledge.

As your users probably use their passwords in more than one place, this will help to protect them.

angular2: how to copy object into another object

Loadsh is the universal standard library for coping any object deepcopy. It's a recursive algorithm. It's check everything and does copy for the given object. Writing this kind of algorithm will take longer time. It's better to leverage the same.

What is the JSF resource library for and how should it be used?

Actually, all of those examples on the web wherein the common content/file type like "js", "css", "img", etc is been used as library name are misleading.

Real world examples

To start, let's look at how existing JSF implementations like Mojarra and MyFaces and JSF component libraries like PrimeFaces and OmniFaces use it. No one of them use resource libraries this way. They use it (under the covers, by @ResourceDependency or UIViewRoot#addComponentResource()) the following way:

<h:outputScript library="javax.faces" name="jsf.js" />
<h:outputScript library="primefaces" name="jquery/jquery.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces" name="omnifaces.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces" name="fixviewstate.js" />
<h:outputScript library="omnifaces.combined" name="[dynamicname].js" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces" name="primefaces.css" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces-aristo" name="theme.css" />
<h:outputStylesheet library="primefaces-vader" name="theme.css" />

It should become clear that it basically represents the common library/module/theme name where all of those resources commonly belong to.

Easier identifying

This way it's so much easier to specify and distinguish where those resources belong to and/or are coming from. Imagine that you happen to have a primefaces.css resource in your own webapp wherein you're overriding/finetuning some default CSS of PrimeFaces; if PrimeFaces didn't use a library name for its own primefaces.css, then the PrimeFaces own one wouldn't be loaded, but instead the webapp-supplied one, which would break the look'n'feel.

Also, when you're using a custom ResourceHandler, you can also apply more finer grained control over resources coming from a specific library when library is used the right way. If all component libraries would have used "js" for all their JS files, how would the ResourceHandler ever distinguish if it's coming from a specific component library? Examples are OmniFaces CombinedResourceHandler and GraphicResourceHandler; check the createResource() method wherein the library is checked before delegating to next resource handler in chain. This way they know when to create CombinedResource or GraphicResource for the purpose.

Noted should be that RichFaces did it wrong. It didn't use any library at all and homebrewed another resource handling layer over it and it's therefore impossible to programmatically identify RichFaces resources. That's exactly the reason why OmniFaces CombinedResourceHander had to introduce a reflection-based hack in order to get it to work anyway with RichFaces resources.

Your own webapp

Your own webapp does not necessarily need a resource library. You'd best just omit it.

<h:outputStylesheet name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage name="img/logo.png" />

Or, if you really need to have one, you can just give it a more sensible common name, like "default" or some company name.

<h:outputStylesheet library="default" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="default" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="default" name="img/logo.png" />

Or, when the resources are specific to some master Facelets template, you could also give it the name of the template, so that it's easier to relate each other. In other words, it's more for self-documentary purposes. E.g. in a /WEB-INF/templates/layout.xhtml template file:

<h:outputStylesheet library="layout" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="layout" name="js/script.js" />

And a /WEB-INF/templates/admin.xhtml template file:

<h:outputStylesheet library="admin" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="admin" name="js/script.js" />

For a real world example, check the OmniFaces showcase source code.

Or, when you'd like to share the same resources over multiple webapps and have created a "common" project for that based on the same example as in this answer which is in turn embedded as JAR in webapp's /WEB-INF/lib, then also reference it as library (name is free to your choice; component libraries like OmniFaces and PrimeFaces also work that way):

<h:outputStylesheet library="common" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="common" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="common" name="img/logo.png" />

Library versioning

Another main advantage is that you can apply resource library versioning the right way on resources provided by your own webapp (this doesn't work for resources embedded in a JAR). You can create a direct child subfolder in the library folder with a name in the \d+(_\d+)* pattern to denote the resource library version.

WebContent
 |-- resources
 |    `-- default
 |         `-- 1_0
 |              |-- css
 |              |    `-- style.css
 |              |-- img
 |              |    `-- logo.png
 |              `-- js
 |                   `-- script.js
 :

When using this markup:

<h:outputStylesheet library="default" name="css/style.css" />
<h:outputScript library="default" name="js/script.js" />
<h:graphicImage library="default" name="img/logo.png" />

This will generate the following HTML with the library version as v parameter:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/css/style.css.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/js/script.js.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0"></script>
<img src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/img/logo.png.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_0" alt="" />

So, if you have edited/updated some resource, then all you need to do is to copy or rename the version folder into a new value. If you have multiple version folders, then the JSF ResourceHandler will automatically serve the resource from the highest version number, according to numerical ordering rules.

So, when copying/renaming resources/default/1_0/* folder into resources/default/1_1/* like follows:

WebContent
 |-- resources
 |    `-- default
 |         |-- 1_0
 |         |    :
 |         |
 |         `-- 1_1
 |              |-- css
 |              |    `-- style.css
 |              |-- img
 |              |    `-- logo.png
 |              `-- js
 |                   `-- script.js
 :

Then the last markup example would generate the following HTML:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/css/style.css.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/js/script.js.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1"></script>
<img src="/contextname/javax.faces.resource/img/logo.png.xhtml?ln=default&amp;v=1_1" alt="" />

This will force the webbrowser to request the resource straight from the server instead of showing the one with the same name from the cache, when the URL with the changed parameter is been requested for the first time. This way the endusers aren't required to do a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 and so on) when they need to retrieve the updated CSS/JS resource.

Please note that library versioning is not possible for resources enclosed in a JAR file. You'd need a custom ResourceHandler. See also How to use JSF versioning for resources in jar.

If you absolutely need a "plumbing" command (not sure why that's a requirement), you can use rev-list:

$ git rev-list --format=%B --max-count=1 <commit>

If you want to avoid using an extra Class and List<Object> genomes you could simply use a Map.

The data structure translates into Map<String, List<Country>>

String resourceEndpoint = "http://api.geonames.org/countryInfoJSON?username=volodiaL";

Map<String, List<Country>> geonames = restTemplate.getForObject(resourceEndpoint, Map.class);

List<Country> countries = geonames.get("geonames");

SQL multiple column ordering

The other answers lack a concrete example, so here it goes:

Given the following People table:

 FirstName |  LastName   |  YearOfBirth
----------------------------------------
  Thomas   | Alva Edison |   1847
  Benjamin | Franklin    |   1706
  Thomas   | More        |   1478
  Thomas   | Jefferson   |   1826

If you execute the query below:

SELECT * FROM People ORDER BY FirstName DESC, YearOfBirth ASC

The result set will look like this:

 FirstName |  LastName   |  YearOfBirth
----------------------------------------
  Thomas   | More        |   1478
  Thomas   | Jefferson   |   1826
  Thomas   | Alva Edison |   1847
  Benjamin | Franklin    |   1706

How to manually trigger validation with jQuery validate?

That library seems to allow validation for single elements. Just associate a click event to your button and try the following:

$("#myform").validate().element("#i1");

Java check if boolean is null

In Java, null only applies to object references; since boolean is a primitive type, it cannot be assigned null.

It's hard to get context from your example, but I'm guessing that if hideInNav is not in the object returned by getProperties(), the (default value?) you've indicated will be false. I suspect this is the bug that you're seeing, as false is not equal to null, so hideNavigation is getting the empty string?

You might get some better answers with a bit more context to your code sample.

How to execute AngularJS controller function on page load?

When using $routeProvider you can resolve on .state and bootstrap your service. This is to say, you are going to load Controller and View, only after resolve your Service:

ui-routes

 .state('nn', {
        url: "/nn",
        templateUrl: "views/home/n.html",
        controller: 'nnCtrl',
        resolve: {
          initialised: function (ourBootstrapService, $q) {

            var deferred = $q.defer();

            ourBootstrapService.init().then(function(initialised) {
              deferred.resolve(initialised);
            });
            return deferred.promise;
          }
        }
      })

Service

function ourBootstrapService() {

 function init(){
    // this is what we need
 }
}

BigDecimal setScale and round

There is indeed a big difference, which you should keep in mind. setScale really set the scale of your number whereas round does round your number to the specified digits BUT it "starts from the leftmost digit of exact result" as mentioned within the jdk. So regarding your sample the results are the same, but try 0.0034 instead. Here's my note about that on my blog:

Ruby: Easiest Way to Filter Hash Keys?

If you want the remaining hash:

params.delete_if {|k, v| ! k.match(/choice[0-9]+/)}

or if you just want the keys:

params.keys.delete_if {|k| ! k.match(/choice[0-9]+/)}

How can I fix the form size in a C# Windows Forms application and not to let user change its size?

this.MaximumSize = new Size(140, 480);

What does 'git blame' do?

The git blame command annotates lines with information from the revision which last modified the line, and... with Git 2.22 (Q2 2019), will do so faster, because of a performance fix around "git blame", especially in a linear history (which is the norm we should optimize for).

See commit f892014 (02 Apr 2019) by David Kastrup (fedelibre). (Merged by Junio C Hamano -- gitster -- in commit 4d8c4da, 25 Apr 2019)

blame.c: don't drop origin blobs as eagerly

When a parent blob already has chunks queued up for blaming, dropping the blob at the end of one blame step will cause it to get reloaded right away, doubling the amount of I/O and unpacking when processing a linear history.

Keeping such parent blobs in memory seems like a reasonable optimization that should incur additional memory pressure mostly when processing the merges from old branches.

How to parse JSON in Java

quick-json parser is very straightforward, flexible, very fast and customizable. Try it

Installing Pandas on Mac OSX

You need to install newest version of xCode from appStore. It contains the compiler for C(gcc) and C++(g++) for mac. Then you can install pandas without any problem. Use the following commands in terminal:

  1. xcode-select --install

  2. pip3 install pandas

It might take some time as it installs other packages too. Please be patient.

Adding multiple columns AFTER a specific column in MySQL

Try this

ALTER TABLE users
ADD COLUMN `count` SMALLINT(6) NOT NULL AFTER `lastname`,
ADD COLUMN `log` VARCHAR(12) NOT NULL AFTER `count`,
ADD COLUMN `status` INT(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL AFTER `log`;

check the syntax

How to implement a Keyword Search in MySQL?

You can find another simpler option in a thread here: Match Against.. with a more detail help in 11.9.2. Boolean Full-Text Searches

This is just in case someone need a more compact option. This will require to create an Index FULLTEXT in the table, which can be accomplish easily.

Information on how to create Indexes (MySQL): MySQL FULLTEXT Indexing and Searching

In the FULLTEXT Index you can have more than one column listed, the result would be an SQL Statement with an index named search:

SELECT *,MATCH (`column`) AGAINST('+keyword1* +keyword2* +keyword3*') as relevance  FROM `documents`USE INDEX(search) WHERE MATCH (`column`) AGAINST('+keyword1* +keyword2* +keyword3*' IN BOOLEAN MODE) ORDER BY relevance;

I tried with multiple columns, with no luck. Even though multiple columns are allowed in indexes, you still need an index for each column to use with Match/Against Statement.

Depending in your criterias you can use either options.

How to have a default option in Angular.js select box

Only one answer by Srivathsa Harish Venkataramana mentioned track by which is indeed a solution for this!

Here is an example along with Plunker (link below) of how to use track by in select ng-options:

<select ng-model="selectedCity"
        ng-options="city as city.name for city in cities track by city.id">
  <option value="">-- Select City --</option>
</select>

If selectedCity is defined on angular scope, and it has id property with the same value as any id of any city on the cities list, it'll be auto selected on load.

Here is Plunker for this: http://plnkr.co/edit/1EVs7R20pCffewrG0EmI?p=preview

See source documentation for more details: https://code.angularjs.org/1.3.15/docs/api/ng/directive/select

"CSV file does not exist" for a filename with embedded quotes

What works for me is

dataset = pd.read_csv('FBI_CRIME11.csv')

Highlight it and press enter. It also depends on the IDE you are using. I am using Anaconda Spyder or Jupiter.

Setting JDK in Eclipse

Eclipse's compiler can assure that your java sources conform to a given JDK version even if you don't have that version installed. This feature is useful for ensuring backwards compatibility of your code.

Your code will still be compiled and run by the JDK you've selected.

Proper way to exit command line program?

Using control-z suspends the process (see the output from stty -a which lists the key stroke under susp). That leaves it running, but in suspended animation (so it is not using any CPU resources). It can be resumed later.

If you want to stop a program permanently, then any of interrupt (often control-c) or quit (often control-\) will stop the process, the latter producing a core dump (unless you've disabled them). You might also use a HUP or TERM signal (or, if really necessary, the KILL signal, but try the other signals first) sent to the process from another terminal; or you could use control-z to suspend the process and then send the death threat from the current terminal, and then bring the (about to die) process back into the foreground (fg).

Note that all key combinations are subject to change via the stty command or equivalents; the defaults may vary from system to system.

Ruby get object keys as array

Like taro said, keys returns the array of keys of your Hash:

http://ruby-doc.org/core-1.9.3/Hash.html#method-i-keys

You'll find all the different methods available for each class.

If you don't know what you're dealing with:

 puts my_unknown_variable.class.to_s

This will output the class name.
