Flutter: RenderBox was not laid out

I had a similir problem, but in my case, I put a row in the leading of the ListView, and it was consuming all the space, of course. I just had to take the Row out of the leading, and it was solved. I would recommend to check if the problem is a larger widget than its container can have.

Expanded(child:MyListView())

Flutter - The method was called on null

As stated in the above answers, it's always a good practice to initialize the variables, but if you have something which you don't know what value should it takes, and you want to leave it uninitialized so you have to make sure that you are updating it before using it.

For example: Assume we have double _bmi; and you don't know what value should it takes, so you can leave it as it is, but before using it, you have to update its value first like calling a function that calculating BMI like follows:

String calculateBMI (){
_bmi = weight / pow( height/100, 2);
return _bmi.toStringAsFixed(1);}

or whatever, what I mean is, you can leave the variable as it is, but before using it make sure you have initialized it using whatever the method you are using.

How to add image in Flutter

To use image in Flutter. Do these steps.

1. Create a Directory inside assets folder named images. As shown in figure belowenter image description here

2. Put your desired images to images folder.

3. Open pubpsec.yaml file . And add declare your images.Like:--enter image description here

4. Use this images in your code as.

  Card(
            elevation: 10,
              child: Container(
              decoration: BoxDecoration(
                color: Colors.orangeAccent,
              image: DecorationImage(
              image: AssetImage("assets/images/dropbox.png"),
          fit: BoxFit.fitWidth,
          alignment: Alignment.topCenter,
          ),
          ),
          child: Text("$index",style: TextStyle(color: Colors.red,fontSize: 16,fontFamily:'LangerReguler')),
                alignment: Alignment.center,
          ),
          );

How to Set/Update State of StatefulWidget from other StatefulWidget in Flutter?

1.On Child Widget : add parameter Function paramter

class ChildWidget extends StatefulWidget {
  final Function() notifyParent;
  ChildWidget({Key key, @required this.notifyParent}) : super(key: key);
}

2.On Parent Widget : create a Function for the child to callback

refresh() {
  setState(() {});
}

3.On Parent Widget : pass parentFunction to Child Widget

new ChildWidget( notifyParent: refresh );

4.On Child Widget : call the Parent Function

  widget.notifyParent();

How to work with progress indicator in flutter?

        child: Center(child: CupertinoActivityIndicator()));
  }
}

Flutter - Wrap text on overflow, like insert ellipsis or fade

You can use this code snipped to show text with ellipsis

Text(
    "Introduction to Very very very long text",
    maxLines: 1,
    overflow: TextOverflow.ellipsis,
    softWrap: false,
    style: TextStyle(color: Colors.black, fontWeight: FontWeight.bold),
),

Why does C++ code for testing the Collatz conjecture run faster than hand-written assembly?

On a rather unrelated note: more performance hacks!

  • [the first «conjecture» has been finally debunked by @ShreevatsaR; removed]

  • When traversing the sequence, we can only get 3 possible cases in the 2-neighborhood of the current element N (shown first):

    1. [even] [odd]
    2. [odd] [even]
    3. [even] [even]

    To leap past these 2 elements means to compute (N >> 1) + N + 1, ((N << 1) + N + 1) >> 1 and N >> 2, respectively.

    Let`s prove that for both cases (1) and (2) it is possible to use the first formula, (N >> 1) + N + 1.

    Case (1) is obvious. Case (2) implies (N & 1) == 1, so if we assume (without loss of generality) that N is 2-bit long and its bits are ba from most- to least-significant, then a = 1, and the following holds:

    (N << 1) + N + 1:     (N >> 1) + N + 1:

            b10                    b1
             b1                     b
           +  1                   + 1
           ----                   ---
           bBb0                   bBb

    where B = !b. Right-shifting the first result gives us exactly what we want.

    Q.E.D.: (N & 1) == 1 ? (N >> 1) + N + 1 == ((N << 1) + N + 1) >> 1.

    As proven, we can traverse the sequence 2 elements at a time, using a single ternary operation. Another 2× time reduction.

The resulting algorithm looks like this:

uint64_t sequence(uint64_t size, uint64_t *path) {
    uint64_t n, i, c, maxi = 0, maxc = 0;

    for (n = i = (size - 1) | 1; i > 2; n = i -= 2) {
        c = 2;
        while ((n = ((n & 3)? (n >> 1) + n + 1 : (n >> 2))) > 2)
            c += 2;
        if (n == 2)
            c++;
        if (c > maxc) {
            maxi = i;
            maxc = c;
        }
    }
    *path = maxc;
    return maxi;
}

int main() {
    uint64_t maxi, maxc;

    maxi = sequence(1000000, &maxc);
    printf("%llu, %llu\n", maxi, maxc);
    return 0;
}

Here we compare n > 2 because the process may stop at 2 instead of 1 if the total length of the sequence is odd.

Error resolving template "index", template might not exist or might not be accessible by any of the configured Template Resolvers

index.html should be inside templates, as I know. So, your second attempt looks correct.

But, as the error message says, index.html looks like having some errors. E.g. the in the third line, the meta tag should be actually head tag, I think.

GlobalConfiguration.Configure() not present after Web API 2 and .NET 4.5.1 migration

None of these solutions worked for me. I had a tangle of Nuget packages that couldn't update because of circular dependencies on each other.

I would up having to fix this the old-fashioned way. I created a new MVC/web api project and manually copied System.Web.Http and System.Web.Http.WebHost from the new project into the Nuget folders of the exisitng solution. From there I updated the references by, OMG, "browsing" and fixed the problem.

EntityType has no key defined error

I too solved this issue in my own project by solving this particular line in my code. I added the following.

After realizing my mistake I then went and changed it to

[DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)]

This further ensures that the field named "Id" increments in value each time a new row is inserted in the database

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. App pool stops on accessing website

One possible reason this might happen is that you don't have enough disk space in your server machine. You can find more information in event viewer. if such thing happen, just stop the IIS, clean some free disk space and restart the IIS and then start the App Poll. enter image description here

How do I filter an array with AngularJS and use a property of the filtered object as the ng-model attribute?

If you are using ES6 you can:

var sample = [1, 2, 3]

var result = sample.filter(elem => elem !== 2)

/* output */
[1, 3]

Also take notice filter does not update the existing array it will return a new filtered array every time.

Web API Routing - api/{controller}/{action}/{id} "dysfunctions" api/{controller}/{id}

To differentiate the routes, try adding a constraint that id must be numeric:

RouteTable.Routes.MapHttpRoute(
         name: "DefaultApi",
         routeTemplate: "api/{controller}/{id}",
         constraints: new { id = @"\d+" }, // Only matches if "id" is one or more digits.
         defaults: new { id = System.Web.Http.RouteParameter.Optional }
         );

I know this is an oldie, but thought I might add some value. For those of us running Server Core outside of a domain (domain members can just run Server Manager remotely to add/remove features/roles), you have to resort to command lines.

Powershell users can type "Install-WindowsFeature Web-Asp-Net45"

That should be equivalent to using server manager.

Multiple HttpPost method in Web API controller

I think the question has already been answered. I was also looking for something a webApi controller that has same signatured mehtods but different names. I was trying to implement the Calculator as WebApi. Calculator has 4 methods with the same signature but different names.

public class CalculatorController : ApiController
{
    [HttpGet]
    [ActionName("Add")]
    public string Add(int num1 = 1, int num2 = 1, int timeDelay = 1)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000 * timeDelay);
        return string.Format("Add = {0}", num1 + num2);
    }

    [HttpGet]
    [ActionName("Sub")]
    public string Sub(int num1 = 1, int num2 = 1, int timeDelay = 1)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000 * timeDelay);
        return string.Format("Subtract result = {0}", num1 - num2);
    }

    [HttpGet]
    [ActionName("Mul")]
    public string Mul(int num1 = 1, int num2 = 1, int timeDelay = 1)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000 * timeDelay);
        return string.Format("Multiplication result = {0}", num1 * num2);
    }

    [HttpGet]
    [ActionName("Div")]
    public string Div(int num1 = 1, int num2 = 1, int timeDelay = 1)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000 * timeDelay);
        return string.Format("Division result = {0}", num1 / num2);
    }
}

and in the WebApiConfig file you already have

 config.Routes.MapHttpRoute(
            name: "DefaultApi",
            routeTemplate: "api/{controller}/{action}/{id}",
            defaults: new { id = RouteParameter.Optional });

Just set the authentication / authorisation on IIS and you are done!

Hope this helps!

MIME types missing in IIS 7 for ASP.NET - 404.17

There are two reasons you might get this message:

  1. ASP.Net is not configured. For this run from Administrator command %FrameworkDir%\%FrameworkVersion%\aspnet_regiis -i. Read the message carefully. On Windows8/IIS8 it may say that this is no longer supported and you may have to use Turn Windows Features On/Off dialog in Install/Uninstall a Program in Control Panel.
  2. Another reason this may happen is because your App Pool is not configured correctly. For example, you created website for WordPress and you also want to throw in few aspx files in there, WordPress creates app pool that says don't run CLR stuff. To fix this just open up App Pool and enable CLR.

Why am I getting this error Premature end of file?

For those who reached this post for Answer:

This happens mainly because the InputStream the DOM parser is consuming is empty

So in what I ran across, there might be two situations:

  1. The InputStream you passed into the parser has been used and thus emptied.
  2. The File or whatever you created the InputStream from may be an empty file or string or whatever. The emptiness might be the reason caused the problem. So you need to check your source of the InputStream.

Convert list to array in Java

You can use toArray() api as follows,

ArrayList<String> stringList = new ArrayList<String>();
stringList.add("ListItem1");
stringList.add("ListItem2");
String[] stringArray = new String[stringList.size()];
stringArray = stringList.toArray(stringList);

Values from the array are,

for(String value : stringList)
{
    System.out.println(value);
}

Where and how is the _ViewStart.cshtml layout file linked?

From ScottGu's blog:

Starting with the ASP.NET MVC 3 Beta release, you can now add a file called _ViewStart.cshtml (or _ViewStart.vbhtml for VB) underneath the \Views folder of your project:

The _ViewStart file can be used to define common view code that you want to execute at the start of each View’s rendering. For example, we could write code within our _ViewStart.cshtml file to programmatically set the Layout property for each View to be the SiteLayout.cshtml file by default:

Because this code executes at the start of each View, we no longer need to explicitly set the Layout in any of our individual view files (except if we wanted to override the default value above).

Important: Because the _ViewStart.cshtml allows us to write code, we can optionally make our Layout selection logic richer than just a basic property set. For example: we could vary the Layout template that we use depending on what type of device is accessing the site – and have a phone or tablet optimized layout for those devices, and a desktop optimized layout for PCs/Laptops. Or if we were building a CMS system or common shared app that is used across multiple customers we could select different layouts to use depending on the customer (or their role) when accessing the site.

This enables a lot of UI flexibility. It also allows you to more easily write view logic once, and avoid repeating it in multiple places.

Also see this.

In a more general sense this ability of MVC framework to "know" about _Viewstart.cshtml is called "Coding by convention".

Convention over configuration (also known as coding by convention) is a software design paradigm which seeks to decrease the number of decisions that developers need to make, gaining simplicity, but not necessarily losing flexibility. The phrase essentially means a developer only needs to specify unconventional aspects of the application. For example, if there's a class Sale in the model, the corresponding table in the database is called “sales” by default. It is only if one deviates from this convention, such as calling the table “products_sold”, that one needs to write code regarding these names.

Wikipedia

There's no magic to it. Its just been written into the core codebase of the MVC framework and is therefore something that MVC "knows" about. That why you don't find it in the .config files or elsewhere; it's actually in the MVC code. You can however override to alter or null out these conventions.

SSL handshake alert: unrecognized_name error since upgrade to Java 1.7.0

I had the same problem with an Ubuntu Linux server running subversion when accessed via Eclipse.

It has shown that the problem had to do with a warning when Apache (re)started:

... waiting [Mon Jun 30 22:27:11 2014] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts

This has been due to a new entry in ports.conf, where another NameVirtualHost directive was entered alongside the directive in sites-enabled/000-default.

After removing the directive in ports.conf, the problem had vanished (after restarting Apache, naturally)

I had the same problem. The only thing that solved it was merge the content of META-INF/spring.handler and META-INF/spring.schemas of each spring jar file into same file names under my META-INF project.

This two threads explain it better:

Does a valid XML file require an XML declaration?

In XML 1.0, the XML Declaration is optional. See section 2.8 of the XML 1.0 Recommendation, where it says it "should" be used -- which means it is recommended, but not mandatory. In XML 1.1, however, the declaration is mandatory. See section 2.8 of the XML 1.1 Recommendation, where it says "MUST" be used. It even goes on to state that if the declaration is absent, that automatically implies the document is an XML 1.0 document.

Note that in an XML Declaration the encoding and standalone are both optional. Only the version is mandatory. Also, these are not attributes, so if they are present they must be in that order: version, followed by any encoding, followed by any standalone.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16" standalone="yes"?>

If you don't specify the encoding in this way, XML parsers try to guess what encoding is being used. The XML 1.0 Recommendation describes one possible way character encoding can be autodetected. In practice, this is not much of a problem if the input is encoded as UTF-8, UTF-16 or US-ASCII. Autodetection doesn't work when it encounters 8-bit encodings that use characters outside the US-ASCII range (e.g. ISO 8859-1) -- avoid creating these if you can.

The standalone indicates whether the XML document can be correctly processed without the DTD or not. People rarely use it. These days, it is a bad to design an XML format that is missing information without its DTD.

Update:

A "prolog error/invalid utf-8 encoding" error indicates that the actual data the parser found inside the file did not match the encoding that the XML declaration says it is. Or in some cases the data inside the file did not match the autodetected encoding.

Since your file contains a byte-order-mark (BOM) it should be in UTF-16 encoding. I suspect that your declaration says <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> which is obviously incorrect when the file has been changed into UTF-16 by NotePad. The simple solution is to remove the encoding and simply say <?xml version="1.0"?>. You could also edit it to say encoding="UTF-16" but that would be wrong for the original file (which wasn't in UTF-16) or if the file somehow gets changed back to UTF-8 or some other encoding.

Don't bother trying to remove the BOM -- that's not the cause of the problem. Using NotePad or WordPad to edit XML is the real problem!

What is the difference between SAX and DOM?

Well, you are close.

In SAX, events are triggered when the XML is being parsed. When the parser is parsing the XML, and encounters a tag starting (e.g. <something>), then it triggers the tagStarted event (actual name of event might differ). Similarly when the end of the tag is met while parsing (</something>), it triggers tagEnded. Using a SAX parser implies you need to handle these events and make sense of the data returned with each event.

In DOM, there are no events triggered while parsing. The entire XML is parsed and a DOM tree (of the nodes in the XML) is generated and returned. Once parsed, the user can navigate the tree to access the various data previously embedded in the various nodes in the XML.

In general, DOM is easier to use but has an overhead of parsing the entire XML before you can start using it.

ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException when using the ArrayList's iterator

iterating using iterator is not fail-safe for example if you add element to the collection after iterator's creation then it will throw concurrentmodificaionexception. Also it's not thread safe, you have to make it thread safe externally.

So it's better to use for-each structure of for loop. It's atleast fail-safe.

White spaces are required between publicId and systemId

The error message is actually correct if not obvious. It says that your DOCTYPE must have a SYSTEM identifier. I assume yours only has a public identifier.

You'll get the error with (for instance):

<!DOCTYPE persistence PUBLIC
    "http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd">

You won't with:

<!DOCTYPE persistence PUBLIC
    "http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd" "">

Notice "" at the end in the second one -- that's the system identifier. The error message is confusing: it should say that you need a system identifier, not that you need a space between the publicId and the (non-existent) systemId.

By the way, an empty system identifier might not be ideal, but it might be enough to get you moving.

How do I append a node to an existing XML file in java

To append a new data element,just do this...

Document doc = docBuilder.parse(is);
Node root=doc.getFirstChild();
Element newserver=doc.createElement("new_server");
root.appendChild(newserver);

easy.... 'is' is an InputStream object. rest is similar to your code....tried it just now...

How to fix 'android.os.NetworkOnMainThreadException'?

This happens in Android 3.0 and above. From Android 3.0 and above, they have restricted using network operations (functions that access the Internet) from running in the main thread/UI thread (what spawns from your on create and on resume methods in the activity).

This is to encourage using separate threads for network operations. See AsyncTask for more details on how to perform network activities the right way.

Where is the Global.asax.cs file?

It don't create normally; you need to add it by yourself.

After adding Global.asax by

  • Right clicking your website -> Add New Item -> Global Application Class -> Add

You need to add a class

  • Right clicking App_Code -> Add New Item -> Class -> name it Global.cs -> Add

Inherit the newly generated by System.Web.HttpApplication and copy all the method created Global.asax to Global.cs and also add an inherit attribute to the Global.asax file.

Your Global.asax will look like this: -

<%@ Application Language="C#" Inherits="Global" %>

Your Global.cs in App_Code will look like this: -

public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
{
    public Global()
    {
        //
        // TODO: Add constructor logic here
        //
    }

    void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        // Code that runs on application startup

    }
    /// Many other events like begin request...e.t.c, e.t.c
}

An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0xc) was found

Today, I've got a similar error:

Servlet.service() for servlet [remoting] in context with path [/***] threw exception [Request processing failed; nested exception is java.lang.RuntimeException: buildDocument failed.] with root cause org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; lineNumber: 19; columnNumber: 91; An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0xc) was found in the value of attribute "text" and element is "label".

After my first encouter with the error, I had re-typed the entire line by hand, so that there was no way for a special character to creep in, and Notepad++ didn't show any non-printable characters (black on white), nevertheless I got the same error over and over.

When I looked up what I've done different than my predecessors, it turned out it was one additional space just before the closing /> (as I've heard was recommended for older parsers, but it shouldn't make any difference anyway, by the XML standards):

<label text="this label's text" layout="cell 0 0, align left" />

When I removed the space:

<label text="this label's text" layout="cell 0 0, align left"/>

everything worked just fine.

So it's definitely a misleading error message.

Get child Node of another Node, given node name

You should read it recursively, some time ago I had the same question and solve with this code:

public void proccessMenuNodeList(NodeList nl, JMenuBar menubar) {
    for (int i = 0; i < nl.getLength(); i++) {
        proccessMenuNode(nl.item(i), menubar);
    }
}

public void proccessMenuNode(Node n, Container parent) {
    if(!n.getNodeName().equals("menu"))
        return;
    Element element = (Element) n;
    String type = element.getAttribute("type");
    String name = element.getAttribute("name");
    if (type.equals("menu")) {
        NodeList nl = element.getChildNodes();
        JMenu menu = new JMenu(name);

        for (int i = 0; i < nl.getLength(); i++)
            proccessMenuNode(nl.item(i), menu);

        parent.add(menu);
    } else if (type.equals("item")) {
        JMenuItem item = new JMenuItem(name);
        parent.add(item);
    }
}

Probably you can adapt it for your case.

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xef' in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

The actual best answer for this problem depends on your environment, specifically what encoding your terminal expects.

The quickest one-line solution is to encode everything you print to ASCII, which your terminal is almost certain to accept, while discarding characters that you cannot print:

print ch #fails
print ch.encode('ascii', 'ignore')

The better solution is to change your terminal's encoding to utf-8, and encode everything as utf-8 before printing. You should get in the habit of thinking about your unicode encoding EVERY time you print or read a string.

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Content is not allowed in prolog

I had the same issue with spring

MarshallingMessageConverter

and by pre-proccess code.

Mayby someone will need reason: BytesMessage #readBytes - reading bytes.. and i forgot that reading is one direction operation. You can not read twice.

Content is not allowed in Prolog SAXParserException

Check the XML. It is not a valid xml.

Prolog is the first line with xml version info. It ok not to include it in your xml.

This error is thrown when the parser reads an invalid tag at the start of the document. Normally where the prolog resides.

e.g.

  1. Root/><document>
  2. Root<document>

Getting an attribute value in xml element

Below is the code to do it in vtd-xml. It basically queries the XML with the XPath of "/xml/item/@name."

         VTDGen vg = new VTDGen();
         if (!vg.parseFile("input.xml",false)) // turn off namespace
              return;
         VTDNav vn = vg.getNav();
         AutoPilot ap =  new AutoPilot(vn);
         ap.selectXPath("/xml/item/@name");
         int i=0;
         while( (i=ap.evalXPath())!=-1){
              System.out.println(" item name is ===>"+vn.toString(i+1));
         }
   }
}

What problem are you having, specifically?

.NET Global exception handler in console application

What you are trying should work according to the MSDN doc's for .Net 2.0. You could also try a try/catch right in main around your entry point for the console app.

static void Main(string[] args)
{
    try
    {
        // Start Working
    }
    catch (Exception ex)
    {
        // Output/Log Exception
    }
    finally
    {
        // Clean Up If Needed
    }
}

And now your catch will handle anything not caught (in the main thread). It can be graceful and even restart where it was if you want, or you can just let the app die and log the exception. You woul add a finally if you wanted to do any clean up. Each thread will require its own high level exception handling similar to the main.

Edited to clarify the point about threads as pointed out by BlueMonkMN and shown in detail in his answer.

"Content is not allowed in prolog" when parsing perfectly valid XML on GAE

In my instance of the problem, the solution was to replace german umlauts (äöü) with their HTML-equivalents...

Java parsing XML document gives "Content not allowed in prolog." error

You are not providing the correct address for the file. You need to provide an address such as C:/Users/xyz/Desktop/myfile.xml

Global variables in c#.net

I second jdk's answer: any public static member of any class of your application can be considered as a "global variable".

However, do note that this is an ASP.NET application, and as such, it's a multi-threaded context for your global variables. Therefore, you should use some locking mechanism when you update and/or read the data to/from these variables. Otherwise, you might get your data in a corrupted state.

What is the purpose of global.asax in asp.net

Global.asax is the asp.net application file.

It is an optional file that handles events raised by ASP.NET or by HttpModules. Mostly used for application and session start/end events and for global error handling.

When used, it should be in the root of the website.

Parse HTML in Android

Have you tried using Html.fromHtml(source)?

I think that class is pretty liberal with respect to source quality (it uses TagSoup internally, which was designed with real-life, bad HTML in mind). It doesn't support all HTML tags though, but it does come with a handler you can implement to react on tags it doesn't understand.

How to set a Default Route (To an Area) in MVC

Accepted solution to this question is, while correct in summing up how to create a custom view engine, does not answer the question correctly. Issue here is that Pino is incorrectly specifying his default route. Particularly his "area" definition is incorrect. "Area" is checked via DataTokens collection and should be added as such:

var defaultRoute = new Route("",new RouteValueDictionary(){{"controller","Default"},{"action","Index"}},null/*constraints*/,new RouteValueDictionary(){{"area","Admin"}},new MvcRouteHandler());
defaultRoute.DataTokens.Add("Namespaces","MyProject.Web.Admin.Controller");
routes.Add(defaultRoute);

Specified "area" in defaults object will be ignored. Code above creates a default route, which catches on requests to your site's root and then calls Default controller, Index action in Admin area. Please also note "Namespaces" key being added to DataTokens, this is only required if you have multiple controllers with same name. This solution is verified with Mvc2 and Mvc3 .NET 3.5/4.0

"Could not load type [Namespace].Global" causing me grief

If you rebuild or change a project and move over files from an old one, make sure to check the Inherit block of your global. In my case, the former project/solution was named intranet, and I had recreated it as Intranet, but when I moved over the files, it didn't like the lowercase (duh). Just do a general look-through of the names of the files.

Spring schemaLocation fails when there is no internet connection

If you are using eclipse for your development , it helps if you install STS plugin for Eclipse [ from the marketPlace for the specific version of eclipse .

Now When you try to create a new configuration file in a folder(normally resources) inside the project , the options would have a "Spring Folder" and you can choose a "Spring Bean Definition File " option Spring > Spring Bean Configuation File .

With this option selected , when you follow steps , it asks you to select for namespaces and the specific versions :

And so the possibility of having a non-existent jar Or old version can be eliminated .

Would have posted images as well , but my reputation is pretty low.. :(

ASP.NET MVC Custom Error Handling Application_Error Global.asax?

To answer the initial question "how to properly pass routedata to error controller?":

IController errorController = new ErrorController();
errorController.Execute(new RequestContext(new HttpContextWrapper(Context), routeData));

Then in your ErrorController class, implement a function like this:

[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)]
public ViewResult Error(Exception exception)
{
    return View("Error", exception);
}

This pushes the exception into the View. The view page should be declared as follows:

<%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<System.Exception>" %>

And the code to display the error:

<% if(Model != null) { %>  <p><b>Detailed error:</b><br />  <span class="error"><%= Helpers.General.GetErrorMessage((Exception)Model, false) %></span></p> <% } %>

Here is the function that gathers the all exception messages from the exception tree:

    public static string GetErrorMessage(Exception ex, bool includeStackTrace)
    {
        StringBuilder msg = new StringBuilder();
        BuildErrorMessage(ex, ref msg);
        if (includeStackTrace)
        {
            msg.Append("\n");
            msg.Append(ex.StackTrace);
        }
        return msg.ToString();
    }

    private static void BuildErrorMessage(Exception ex, ref StringBuilder msg)
    {
        if (ex != null)
        {
            msg.Append(ex.Message);
            msg.Append("\n");
            if (ex.InnerException != null)
            {
                BuildErrorMessage(ex.InnerException, ref msg);
            }
        }
    }

ASP.NET MVC - Set custom IIdentity or IPrincipal

As an addition to LukeP code for Web Forms users (not MVC) if you want to simplify the access in the code behind of your pages, just add the code below to a base page and derive the base page in all your pages:

Public Overridable Shadows ReadOnly Property User() As CustomPrincipal
    Get
        Return DirectCast(MyBase.User, CustomPrincipal)
    End Get
End Property

So in your code behind you can simply access:

User.FirstName or User.LastName

What I'm missing in a Web Form scenario, is how to obtain the same behaviour in code not tied to the page, for example in httpmodules should I always add a cast in each class or is there a smarter way to obtain this?

Thanks for your answers and thank to LukeP since I used your examples as a base for my custom user (which now has User.Roles, User.Tasks, User.HasPath(int) , User.Settings.Timeout and many other nice things)

Application_Start not firing?

After trying as many of the other answers as were applicable in my situation and having no luck with any of them, I went into the properties for the Web project (the server-side project for a Silverlight app using RIA Services), clicked on the "Web" tab and changed the selected Server from "Local IIS" to "IIS Express". (Note I'm using VS2013.) This solved the problem. Application_Start executes under "IIS Express" but not under "Local IIS". Interesting...

ASP.NET custom error page - Server.GetLastError() is null

A combination of what NailItDown and Victor said. The preferred/easiest way is to use your Global.Asax to store the error and then redirect to your custom error page.

Global.asax:

    void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    // Code that runs when an unhandled error occurs
    Exception ex = Server.GetLastError();
    Application["TheException"] = ex; //store the error for later
    Server.ClearError(); //clear the error so we can continue onwards
    Response.Redirect("~/myErrorPage.aspx"); //direct user to error page
}

In addition, you need to set up your web.config:

  <system.web>
    <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="~/myErrorPage.aspx">
    </customErrors>
  </system.web>

And finally, do whatever you need to with the exception you've stored in your error page:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{

    // ... do stuff ...
    //we caught an exception in our Global.asax, do stuff with it.
    Exception caughtException = (Exception)Application["TheException"];
    //... do stuff ...
}

How do I load an org.w3c.dom.Document from XML in a string?

Just had a similar problem, except i needed a NodeList and not a Document, here's what I came up with. It's mostly the same solution as before, augmented to get the root element down as a NodeList and using erickson's suggestion of using an InputSource instead for character encoding issues.

How do you embed binary data in XML?

You could encode the binary data using base64 and put it into a Base64 element; the below article is a pretty good one on the subject.

Handling Binary Data in XML Documents

Remove empty strings from a list of strings

For a list with a combination of spaces and empty values, use simple list comprehension -

>>> s = ['I', 'am', 'a', '', 'great', ' ', '', '  ', 'person', '!!', 'Do', 'you', 'think', 'its', 'a', '', 'a', '', 'joke', '', ' ', '', '?', '', '', '', '?']

So, you can see, this list has a combination of spaces and null elements. Using the snippet -

>>> d = [x for x in s if x.strip()]
>>> d
>>> d = ['I', 'am', 'a', 'great', 'person', '!!', 'Do', 'you', 'think', 'its', 'a', 'a', 'joke', '?', '?']

How to print multiple variable lines in Java

Suppose we have variable date , month and year then we can write it in the java like this.

int date=15,month=4,year=2016;
System.out.println(date+ "/"+month+"/"+year);

output of this will be like below:

15/4/2016

How can I send an inner <div> to the bottom of its parent <div>?

Here is way to avoid absolute divs and tables if you know parent's height:

<div class="parent">
    <div class="child"> <a href="#">Home</a>
    </div>
</div>

CSS:

.parent {
    line-height:80px;
    border: 1px solid black;
}
.child {
    line-height:normal;
    display: inline-block;
    vertical-align:bottom;
    border: 1px solid red;
}

How do I set the selected item in a comboBox to match my string using C#?

Have you tried the Text property? It works for me.

How to pass a vector to a function?

You're passing in a pointer *random but you're using it like a reference &random

The reference says "This is the address of random"

Show "Open File" Dialog

In Access 2007 you just need to use Application.FileDialog.

Here is the example from the Access documentation:

' Requires reference to Microsoft Office 12.0 Object Library. '
Private Sub cmdFileDialog_Click()
   Dim fDialog As Office.FileDialog
   Dim varFile As Variant

   ' Clear listbox contents. '
   Me.FileList.RowSource = ""

   ' Set up the File Dialog. '
   Set fDialog = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)

   With fDialog

      ' Allow user to make multiple selections in dialog box '
      .AllowMultiSelect = True

      ' Set the title of the dialog box. '
      .Title = "Please select one or more files"

      ' Clear out the current filters, and add our own.'
      .Filters.Clear
      .Filters.Add "Access Databases", "*.MDB"
      .Filters.Add "Access Projects", "*.ADP"
      .Filters.Add "All Files", "*.*"

      ' Show the dialog box. If the .Show method returns True, the '
      ' user picked at least one file. If the .Show method returns '
      ' False, the user clicked Cancel. '
      If .Show = True Then

         'Loop through each file selected and add it to our list box. '
         For Each varFile In .SelectedItems
            Me.FileList.AddItem varFile
         Next

      Else
         MsgBox "You clicked Cancel in the file dialog box."
      End If
   End With
End Sub

As the sample says, just make sure you have a reference to the Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library (under the VBE IDE > Tools > References menu).

What's the best practice for primary keys in tables?

Just an extra comment on something that is often overlooked. Sometimes not using a surrogate key has benefits in the child tables. Let's say we have a design that allows you to run multiple companies within the one database (maybe it's a hosted solution, or whatever).

Let's say we have these tables and columns:

Company:
  CompanyId   (primary key)

CostCenter:
  CompanyId (primary key, foreign key to Company)
  CostCentre  (primary key)

CostElement
  CompanyId (primary key, foreign key to Company)
  CostElement (primary key)

Invoice:
  InvoiceId    (primary key)
  CompanyId (primary key, in foreign key to CostCentre, in foreign key to CostElement)
  CostCentre (in foreign key to CostCentre)
  CostElement (in foreign key to CostElement)

In case that last bit doesn't make sense, Invoice.CompanyId is part of two foreign keys, one to the CostCentre table and one to the CostElement table. The primary key is (InvoiceId, CompanyId).

In this model, it's not possible to screw-up and reference a CostElement from one company and a CostCentre from another company. If a surrogate key was used on the CostElement and CostCentre tables, it would be.

The fewer chances to screw up, the better.

Is it possible to change a UIButtons background color?

Well I'm 99% percent positive that you cannot just go and change the background color of a UIButton. Instead you have to go and change the background images yourself which I think is a pain. I'm amazed that I had to do this.

If I'm wrong or if theres a better way without having to set background images please let me know

[random setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"toggleoff.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
    [random setTitleColor:[UIColor darkTextColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];

[random setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"toggleon.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
    [random setTitleColor:[UIColor whiteColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];

convert a char* to std::string

I would like to mention a new method which uses the user defined literal s. This isn't new, but it will be more common because it was added in the C++14 Standard Library.

Largely superfluous in the general case:

string mystring = "your string here"s;

But it allows you to use auto, also with wide strings:

auto mystring = U"your UTF-32 string here"s;

And here is where it really shines:

string suffix;
cin >> suffix;
string mystring = "mystring"s + suffix;

Call Activity method from adapter

Original:

I understand the current answer but needed a more clear example. Here is an example of what I used with an Adapter(RecyclerView.Adapter) and an Activity.

In your Activity:

This will implement the interface that we have in our Adapter. In this example, it will be called when the user clicks on an item in the RecyclerView.

public class MyActivity extends Activity implements AdapterCallback {

    private MyAdapter myAdapter;

    @Override
    public void onMethodCallback() {
       // do something
    }

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        myAdapter = new MyAdapter(this);
    }
}

In your Adapter:

In the Activity, we initiated our Adapter and passed this as an argument to the constructer. This will initiate our interface for our callback method. You can see that we use our callback method for user clicks.

public class MyAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<MyAdapter.ViewHolder> {

    private AdapterCallback adapterCallback;

    public MyAdapter(Context context) {
        try {
            adapterCallback = ((AdapterCallback) context);
        } catch (ClassCastException e) {
            throw new ClassCastException("Activity must implement AdapterCallback.", e);
        }
    }

    @Override
    public void onBindViewHolder(MyAdapter.ViewHolder viewHolder, int position) {
        // simple example, call interface here
        // not complete
        viewHolder.itemView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View view) {
                try {
                    adapterCallback.onMethodCallback();
                } catch (ClassCastException e) {
                   // do something
                }
            }
        });
    }

    public static interface AdapterCallback {
        void onMethodCallback();
    }
}

How to free memory in Java?

System.gc();

Runs the garbage collector.

Calling the gc method suggests that the Java Virtual Machine expend effort toward recycling unused objects in order to make the memory they currently occupy available for quick reuse. When control returns from the method call, the Java Virtual Machine has made a best effort to reclaim space from all discarded objects.

Not recommended.

Edit: I wrote the original response in 2009. It's now 2015.

Garbage collectors have gotten steadily better in the ~20 years Java's been around. At this point, if you're manually calling the garbage collector, you may want to consider other approaches:

  • If you're forcing GC on a limited number of machines, it may be worth having a load balancer point away from the current machine, waiting for it to finish serving to connected clients, timeout after some period for hanging connections, and then just hard-restart the JVM. This is a terrible solution, but if you're looking at System.gc(), forced-restarts may be a possible stopgap.
  • Consider using a different garbage collector. For example, the (new in the last six years) G1 collector is a low-pause model; it uses more CPU overall, but does it's best to never force a hard-stop on execution. Since server CPUs now almost all have multiple cores, this is A Really Good Tradeoff to have available.
  • Look at your flags tuning memory use. Especially in newer versions of Java, if you don't have that many long-term running objects, consider bumping up the size of newgen in the heap. newgen (young) is where new objects are allocated. For a webserver, everything created for a request is put here, and if this space is too small, Java will spend extra time upgrading the objects to longer-lived memory, where they're more expensive to kill. (If newgen is slightly too small, you're going to pay for it.) For example, in G1:
    • XX:G1NewSizePercent (defaults to 5; probably doesn't matter.)
    • XX:G1MaxNewSizePercent (defaults to 60; probably raise this.)
  • Consider telling the garbage collector you're not okay with a longer pause. This will cause more-frequent GC runs, to allow the system to keep the rest of it's constraints. In G1:
    • XX:MaxGCPauseMillis (defaults to 200.)

What's the best way to get the current URL in Spring MVC?

Instead of using RequestContextHolder directly, you can also use ServletUriComponentsBuilder and its static methods:

  • ServletUriComponentsBuilder.fromCurrentContextPath()
  • ServletUriComponentsBuilder.fromCurrentServletMapping()
  • ServletUriComponentsBuilder.fromCurrentRequestUri()
  • ServletUriComponentsBuilder.fromCurrentRequest()

They use RequestContextHolder under the hood, but provide additional flexibility to build new URLs using the capabilities of UriComponentsBuilder.

Example:

ServletUriComponentsBuilder builder = ServletUriComponentsBuilder.fromCurrentRequestUri();
builder.scheme("https");
builder.replaceQueryParam("someBoolean", false);
URI newUri = builder.build().toUri();

Field 'id' doesn't have a default value?

As a developer it is highly recommended to use STRICT mode because it will allow you to see issues/errors/warnings that may come about instead of just working around it by turning off strict mode. It's also better practice.

Strict mode is a great tool to see messy, sloppy code.

PHP Configuration: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings

I happened to have to set up Apache & PHP on two laptops recently. After much weeping and gnashing of teeth, I noticed in phpinfo's output that (for whatever reason: not paying attention during PHP install, bad installer) Apache expected php.ini to be somewhere where it wasn't.

Two choices:

  1. put it where Apache thinks it should be or
  2. point Apache at the true location of your php.ini

... and restart Apache. Timezone settings should be recognized at that point.

Can I create view with parameter in MySQL?

I previously came up with a different workaround that doesn't use stored procedures, but instead uses a parameter table and some connection_id() magic.

EDIT (Copied up from comments)

create a table that contains a column called connection_id (make it a bigint). Place columns in that table for parameters for the view. Put a primary key on the connection_id. replace into the parameter table and use CONNECTION_ID() to populate the connection_id value. In the view use a cross join to the parameter table and put WHERE param_table.connection_id = CONNECTION_ID(). This will cross join with only one row from the parameter table which is what you want. You can then use the other columns in the where clause for example where orders.order_id = param_table.order_id.

What to gitignore from the .idea folder?

For a couple of years I was a supporter of using a specific .gitignore for IntelliJ with this suggested configuration.

Not anymore.

IntelliJ is updated quite frequently, internal config file specs change more often than I would like and JetBrains flagship excels at auto-configuring itself based on maven/gradle/etc build files.

So my suggestion would be to leave all editor config files out of project and have users configure editor to their liking. Things like code styling can and should be configured at build level; say using Google Code Style or CheckStyle directly on Maven/Gradle/sbt/etc.

This ensures consistency and leaves editor files out of source code that, in my personal opinion, is where they should be.

Setting a global PowerShell variable from a function where the global variable name is a variable passed to the function

I ran across this question while troubleshooting my own code.

So this does NOT work...

$myLogText = ""
function AddLog ($Message)
{
    $myLogText += ($Message)
}
AddLog ("Hello")
Write-Host $myLogText

This APPEARS to work, but only in the PowerShell ISE:

$myLogText = ""
function AddLog ($Message)
{
    $global:myLogText += ($Message)
}
AddLog ("Hello")
Write-Host $myLogText

This is actually what works in both ISE and command line:

$global:myLogText = ""
function AddLog ($Message)
{
    $global:myLogText += ($Message)
}
AddLog ("Hello")
Write-Host $global:myLogText

How to convert int[] to Integer[] in Java?

Rather than write your own code you can use an IntBuffer to wrap the existing int[] without having to copy the data into an Integer array

int[] a = {1,2,3,4};
IntBuffer b = IntBuffer.wrap(a);

IntBuffer implements comparable so you are able to use the code you already have written. Formally maps compare keys such that a.equals(b) is used to say two keys are equal, so two IntBuffers with array 1,2,3 - even if the arrays are in different memory locations - are said to be equal and so will work for your frequency code.

ArrayList<int[]> data = ... // load a dataset`

Map<IntBuffer, Double> frequencies = new HashMap<IntBuffer, Double>();

for(int[] a : data) {

    IntBuffer q = IntBuffer.wrap(a);

    if(frequencies.containsKey(q)) {
        frequencies.put(q, tfs.get(q) + p);
    } else {
        frequencies.put(q, p);
    }

}

Hope that helps

How to access to a child method from the parent in vue.js

Ref and event bus both has issues when your control render is affected by v-if. So, I decided to go with a simpler method.

The idea is using an array as a queue to send methods that needs to be called to the child component. Once the component got mounted, it will process this queue. It watches the queue to execute new methods.

(Borrowing some code from Desmond Lua's answer)

Parent component code:

import ChildComponent from './components/ChildComponent'

new Vue({
  el: '#app',
  data: {
    item: {},
    childMethodsQueue: [],
  },
  template: `
  <div>
     <ChildComponent :item="item" :methods-queue="childMethodsQueue" />
     <button type="submit" @click.prevent="submit">Post</button>
  </div>
  `,
  methods: {
    submit() {
      this.childMethodsQueue.push({name: ChildComponent.methods.save.name, params: {}})
    }
  },
  components: { ChildComponent },
})

This is code for ChildComponent

<template>
 ...
</template>

<script>
export default {
  name: 'ChildComponent',
  props: {
    methodsQueue: { type: Array },
  },
  watch: {
    methodsQueue: function () {
      this.processMethodsQueue()
    },
  },
  mounted() {
    this.processMethodsQueue()
  },
  methods: {
    save() {
        console.log("Child saved...")
    },
    processMethodsQueue() {
      if (!this.methodsQueue) return
      let len = this.methodsQueue.length
      for (let i = 0; i < len; i++) {
        let method = this.methodsQueue.shift()
        this[method.name](method.params)
      }
    },
  },
}
</script>

And there is a lot of room for improvement like moving processMethodsQueue to a mixin...

ASP.NET DateTime Picker

The answer to your question is that Yes there are good free/open source time picker controls that go well with ASP.NET Calendar controls.

ASP.NET calendar controls just write an HTML table.

If you are using HTML5 and .NET Framework 4.5, you can instead use an ASP.NET TextBox control and set the TextMode property to "Date", "Month", "Week", "Time", or "DateTimeLocal" -- or if you your browser doesn't support this, you can set this property to "DateTime". You can then read the Text property to get the date, or time, or month, or week as a string from the TextBox.

If you are using .NET Framework 4.0 or an older version, then you can use HTML5's <input type="[month, week, etc.]">; if your browser doesn't support this, use <input type="datetime">.

If you need the server-side code (written in either C# or Visual Basic) for the information that the user inputs in the date field, then you can try to run the element on the server by writing runat="server" inside the input tag. As with all things ASP, make sure to give this element an ID so you can access it on the server side. Now you can read the Value property to get the input date, time, month, or week as a string.

If you cannot run this element on the server, then you will need a hidden field in addition to the <input type="[date/time/month/week/etc.]". In the submit function (written in JavaScript), set the value of the hidden field to the value of the input type="date", or "time", or "month", or "week" -- then on the server-side code, read the Value property of that hidden field as string too.

Make sure that the hidden field element of the HTML can run on the server.

Python list / sublist selection -1 weirdness

ERROR Error: Uncaught (in promise), Cannot match any routes. URL Segment

When you use routerLink like this, then you need to pass the value of the route it should go to. But when you use routerLink with the property binding syntax, like this: [routerLink], then it should be assigned a name of the property the value of which will be the route it should navigate the user to.

So to fix your issue, replace this routerLink="['/about']" with routerLink="/about" in your HTML.

There were other places where you used property binding syntax when it wasn't really required. I've fixed it and you can simply use the template syntax below:

<nav class="main-nav>
  <ul
    class="main-nav__list"
    ng-sticky
    addClass="main-sticky-link"
    [ngClass]="ref.click ? 'Navbar__ToggleShow' : ''">
    <li class="main-nav__item" routerLinkActive="active">
      <a class="main-nav__link" routerLink="/">Home</a>
    </li>
    <li class="main-nav__item" routerLinkActive="active">
      <a class="main-nav__link" routerLink="/about">About us</a>
    </li>
  </ul>
</nav>

It also needs to know where exactly should it load the template for the Component corresponding to the route it has reached. So for that, don't forget to add a <router-outlet></router-outlet>, either in your template provided above or in a parent component.

There's another issue with your AppRoutingModule. You need to export the RouterModule from there so that it is available to your AppModule when it imports it. To fix that, export it from your AppRoutingModule by adding it to the exports array.

import { NgModule } from '@angular/core';
import { CommonModule } from '@angular/common';
import { RouterModule, Routes } from '@angular/router';
import { MainLayoutComponent } from './layout/main-layout/main-layout.component';
import { AboutComponent } from './components/about/about.component';
import { WhatwedoComponent } from './components/whatwedo/whatwedo.component';
import { FooterComponent } from './components/footer/footer.component';
import { ProjectsComponent } from './components/projects/projects.component';
const routes: Routes = [
  { path: 'about', component: AboutComponent },
  { path: 'what', component: WhatwedoComponent },
  { path: 'contacts', component: FooterComponent },
  { path: 'projects', component: ProjectsComponent},
];

@NgModule({
  imports: [
    CommonModule,
    RouterModule.forRoot(routes),
  ],
  exports: [RouterModule],
  declarations: []
})
export class AppRoutingModule { }

AngularJS : Custom filters and ng-repeat

If you want to run some custom filter logic you can create a function which takes the array element as an argument and returns true or false based on whether it should be in the search results. Then pass it to the filter instruction just like you do with the search object, for example:

JS:

$scope.filterFn = function(car)
{
    // Do some tests

    if(car.carDetails.doors > 2)
    {
        return true; // this will be listed in the results
    }

    return false; // otherwise it won't be within the results
};

HTML:

...
<article data-ng-repeat="result in results | filter:search | filter:filterFn" class="result">
...

As you can see you can chain many filters together, so adding your custom filter function doesn't force you to remove the previous filter using the search object (they will work together seamlessly).

How do I adb pull ALL files of a folder present in SD Card

String comparison technique used by Python

This is a lexicographical ordering. It just puts things in dictionary order.

How to convert interface{} to string?

To expand on what Peter said: Since you are looking to go from interface{} to string, type assertion will lead to headaches since you need to account for multiple incoming types. You'll have to assert each type possible and verify it is that type before using it.

Using fmt.Sprintf (https://golang.org/pkg/fmt/#Sprintf) automatically handles the interface conversion. Since you know your desired output type is always a string, Sprintf will handle whatever type is behind the interface without a bunch of extra code on your behalf.

Remove all occurrences of a value from a list?

No one has posted an optimal answer for time and space complexity, so I thought I would give it a shot. Here is a solution that removes all occurrences of a specific value without creating a new array and at an efficient time complexity. The drawback is that the elements do not maintain order.

Time complexity: O(n)
Additional space complexity: O(1)

def main():
    test_case([1, 2, 3, 4, 2, 2, 3], 2)     # [1, 3, 3, 4]
    test_case([3, 3, 3], 3)                 # []
    test_case([1, 1, 1], 3)                 # [1, 1, 1]

def test_case(test_val, remove_val):
    remove_element_in_place(test_val, remove_val)
    print(test_val)

def remove_element_in_place(my_list, remove_value):
    length_my_list = len(my_list)
    swap_idx = length_my_list - 1

    for idx in range(length_my_list - 1, -1, -1):
        if my_list[idx] == remove_value:
            my_list[idx], my_list[swap_idx] = my_list[swap_idx], my_list[idx]
            swap_idx -= 1

    for pop_idx in range(length_my_list - swap_idx - 1):
        my_list.pop() # O(1) operation

What is a quick way to force CRLF in C# / .NET?

It depends on exactly what the requirements are. In particular, how do you want to handle "\r" on its own? Should that count as a line break or not? As an example, how should "a\n\rb" be treated? Is that one very odd line break, one "\n" break and then a rogue "\r", or two separate linebreaks? If "\r" and "\n" can both be linebreaks on their own, why should "\r\n" not be treated as two linebreaks?

Here's some code which I suspect is reasonably efficient.

using System;
using System.Text;

class LineBreaks
{
    static void Main()
    {
        Test("a\nb");
        Test("a\nb\r\nc");
        Test("a\r\nb\r\nc");
        Test("a\rb\nc");
        Test("a\r");
        Test("a\n");
        Test("a\r\n");
    }

    static void Test(string input)
    {
        string normalized = NormalizeLineBreaks(input);
        string debug = normalized.Replace("\r", "\\r")
                                 .Replace("\n", "\\n");
        Console.WriteLine(debug);
    }

    static string NormalizeLineBreaks(string input)
    {
        // Allow 10% as a rough guess of how much the string may grow.
        // If we're wrong we'll either waste space or have extra copies -
        // it will still work
        StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder((int) (input.Length * 1.1));

        bool lastWasCR = false;

        foreach (char c in input)
        {
            if (lastWasCR)
            {
                lastWasCR = false;
                if (c == '\n')
                {
                    continue; // Already written \r\n
                }
            }
            switch (c)
            {
                case '\r':
                    builder.Append("\r\n");
                    lastWasCR = true;
                    break;
                case '\n':
                    builder.Append("\r\n");
                    break;
                default:
                    builder.Append(c);
                    break;
            }
        }
        return builder.ToString();
    }

Quotation marks inside a string

String name = "\"john\"";

You have to escape the second pair of quotation marks using the \ character in front. It might be worth looking at this link, which explains in some detail.

Other scenario where you set variable:

String name2 = "\""+name+"\"";

Sequence in console:

> String name = "\"john\"";
> name
""john""
> String name2 = "\""+name+"\"";
> name2
"""john"""

How to use the toString method in Java?

Whenever you access an Object (not being a String) in a String context then the toString() is called under the covers by the compiler.

This is why

Map map = new HashMap();
System.out.println("map=" + map);

works, and by overriding the standard toString() from Object in your own classes, you can make your objects useful in String contexts too.

(and consider it a black box! Never, ever use the contents for anything else than presenting to a human)

Errors: "INSERT EXEC statement cannot be nested." and "Cannot use the ROLLBACK statement within an INSERT-EXEC statement." How to solve this?

Declare an output cursor variable to the inner sp :

@c CURSOR VARYING OUTPUT

Then declare a cursor c to the select you want to return. Then open the cursor. Then set the reference:

DECLARE c CURSOR LOCAL FAST_FORWARD READ_ONLY FOR
SELECT ...
OPEN c
SET @c = c

DO NOT close or reallocate.

Now call the inner sp from the outer one supplying a cursor parameter like:

exec sp_abc a,b,c,, @cOUT OUTPUT

Once the inner sp executes, your @cOUT is ready to fetch. Loop and then close and deallocate.

Remove innerHTML from div

Which is the preferred way to concatenate a string in Python?

As @jdi mentions Python documentation suggests to use str.join or io.StringIO for string concatenation. And says that a developer should expect quadratic time from += in a loop, even though there's an optimisation since Python 2.4. As this answer says:

If Python detects that the left argument has no other references, it calls realloc to attempt to avoid a copy by resizing the string in place. This is not something you should ever rely on, because it's an implementation detail and because if realloc ends up needing to move the string frequently, performance degrades to O(n^2) anyway.

I will show an example of real-world code that naively relied on += this optimisation, but it didn't apply. The code below converts an iterable of short strings into bigger chunks to be used in a bulk API.

def test_concat_chunk(seq, split_by):
    result = ['']
    for item in seq:
        if len(result[-1]) + len(item) > split_by:
            result.append('')
        result[-1] += item
    return result

This code can literary run for hours because of quadratic time complexity. Below are alternatives with suggested data structures:

import io

def test_stringio_chunk(seq, split_by):
    def chunk():
        buf = io.StringIO()
        size = 0
        for item in seq:
            if size + len(item) <= split_by:
                size += buf.write(item)
            else:
                yield buf.getvalue()
                buf = io.StringIO()
                size = buf.write(item)
        if size:
            yield buf.getvalue()

    return list(chunk())

def test_join_chunk(seq, split_by):
    def chunk():
        buf = []
        size = 0
        for item in seq:
            if size + len(item) <= split_by:
                buf.append(item)
                size += len(item)
            else:
                yield ''.join(buf)
                buf.clear()
                buf.append(item)
                size = len(item)
        if size:
            yield ''.join(buf)

    return list(chunk())

And a micro-benchmark:

import timeit
import random
import string
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

line = ''.join(random.choices(
    string.ascii_uppercase + string.digits, k=512)) + '\n'
x = []
y_concat = []
y_stringio = []
y_join = []
n = 5
for i in range(1, 11):
    x.append(i)
    seq = [line] * (20 * 2 ** 20 // len(line))
    chunk_size = i * 2 ** 20
    y_concat.append(
        timeit.timeit(lambda: test_concat_chunk(seq, chunk_size), number=n) / n)
    y_stringio.append(
        timeit.timeit(lambda: test_stringio_chunk(seq, chunk_size), number=n) / n)
    y_join.append(
        timeit.timeit(lambda: test_join_chunk(seq, chunk_size), number=n) / n)
plt.plot(x, y_concat)
plt.plot(x, y_stringio)
plt.plot(x, y_join)
plt.legend(['concat', 'stringio', 'join'], loc='upper left')

Generate random numbers uniformly over an entire range

If you want numbers to be uniformly distributed over the range, you should break your range up into a number of equal sections that represent the number of points you need. Then get a random number with a min/max for each section.

As another note, you should probably not use rand() as it's not very good at actually generating random numbers. I don't know what platform you're running on, but there is probably a better function you can call like random().

Putting -moz-available and -webkit-fill-available in one width (css property)

CSS will skip over style declarations it doesn't understand. Mozilla-based browsers will not understand -webkit-prefixed declarations, and WebKit-based browsers will not understand -moz-prefixed declarations.

Because of this, we can simply declare width twice:

elem {
    width: 100%;
    width: -moz-available;          /* WebKit-based browsers will ignore this. */
    width: -webkit-fill-available;  /* Mozilla-based browsers will ignore this. */
    width: fill-available;
}

The width: 100% declared at the start will be used by browsers which ignore both the -moz and -webkit-prefixed declarations or do not support -moz-available or -webkit-fill-available.

How do you replace double quotes with a blank space in Java?

Use String#replace().

To replace them with spaces (as per your question title):

System.out.println("I don't like these \"double\" quotes".replace("\"", " "));

The above can also be done with characters:

System.out.println("I don't like these \"double\" quotes".replace('"', ' '));

To remove them (as per your example):

System.out.println("I don't like these \"double\" quotes".replace("\"", ""));

Unable to negotiate with XX.XXX.XX.XX: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-dss

I want to collaborate a little with the solution for the server side. So, the server is saying it does not support DSA, this is because the openssh client does not activate it by default:

OpenSSH 7.0 and greater similarly disable the ssh-dss (DSA) public key algorithm. It too is weak and we recommend against its use.

So, to fix this this in the server side I should activate other Key algorithms like RSA o ECDSA. I just had this problem with a server in a lan. I suggest the following:

Update the openssh:

yum update openssh-server

Merge new configurations in the sshd_config if there is a sshd_config.rpmnew.

Verify there are hosts keys at /etc/ssh/. If not generate new ones, see man ssh-keygen.

$ ll /etc/ssh/
total 580
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root     553185 Mar  3  2017 moduli
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root       1874 Mar  3  2017 ssh_config
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root       4096 Apr 17 17:56 ssh_config.d
-rw-------. 1 root root       3887 Mar  3  2017 sshd_config
-rw-r-----. 1 root ssh_keys    227 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_ecdsa_key
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root        162 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_ecdsa_key.pub
-rw-r-----. 1 root ssh_keys    387 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_ed25519_key
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root         82 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_ed25519_key.pub
-rw-r-----. 1 root ssh_keys   1675 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_rsa_key
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root        382 Aug 30 15:33 ssh_host_rsa_key.pub

Verify in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config the HostKey configuration. It should allow the configuration of RSA and ECDSA. (If all of them are commented by default it will allow too the RSA, see in man sshd_config the part of HostKey).

# HostKey for protocol version 1
#HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key
# HostKeys for protocol version 2
HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key
#HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key
HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key
HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key

For the client side, create a key for ssh (not a DSA like in the question) by just doing this:

ssh-keygen

After this, because there are more options than ssh-dss(DSA) the client openssh (>=v7) should connect with RSA or better algorithm.

Here another good article.

This is my first question answered, I welcome suggestions :D .

How to test if JSON object is empty in Java

If you're okay with a hack -

obj.toString().equals("{}");

Serializing the object is expensive and moreso for large objects, but it's good to understand that JSON is transparent as a string, and therefore looking at the string representation is something you can always do to solve a problem.

How to test which port MySQL is running on and whether it can be connected to?

Using Mysql client:

Binding Listbox to List<object> in WinForms

Granted, this isn't going to provide you anything truly meaningful unless the objects have properly overriden ToString() (or you're not really working with a generic list of objects and can bind to specific fields):

List<object> objList = new List<object>();

// Fill the list

someListBox.DataSource = objList;

MySQL: Selecting multiple fields into multiple variables in a stored procedure

Git fast forward VS no fast forward merge

When we work on development environment and merge our code to staging/production branch then Git no fast forward can be a better option. Usually when we work in development branch for a single feature we tend to have multiple commits. Tracking changes with multiple commits can be inconvenient later on. If we merge with staging/production branch using Git no fast forward then it will have only 1 commit. Now anytime we want to revert the feature, just revert that commit. Life is easy.

Disable button in jQuery

Use .prop instead (and clean up your selector string):

function disable(i){
    $("#rbutton_"+i).prop("disabled",true);
}

generated HTML:

<button id="rbutton_1" onclick="disable(1)">Click me</button>
<!-- wrap your onclick in quotes -->

But the "best practices" approach is to use JavaScript event binding and this instead:

_x000D_
$('.rbutton').on('click',function() {_x000D_
    $(this).prop("disabled",true);_x000D_
});

Tried to load jQuery after angular as mentioned above. This prevented the error message, but didn't really fix the problem. And jQuery '.find' didn't really work afterwards..

Solution was to fix the missing closing tag.

In php, is 0 treated as empty?

To accept 0 as a value in variable use isset

Check if variable is empty

$var = 0;

if ($var == '') {

junk$nm <- as.factor(junk$nm)

Add button to a layout programmatically

If you just have included a layout file at the beginning of onCreate() inside setContentView and want to get this layout to add new elements programmatically try this:

ViewGroup linearLayout = (ViewGroup) findViewById(R.id.linearLayoutID);

then you can create a new Button for example and just add it:

Button bt = new Button(this);
bt.setText("A Button");
bt.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,
                                    LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT));
linerLayout.addView(bt);

Android: How can I print a variable on eclipse console?

I'm new to Android development and I do this:

1) Create a class:

import android.util.Log;

public final class Debug{
    private Debug (){}

    public static void out (Object msg){
        Log.i ("info", msg.toString ());
    }
}

When you finish the project delete the class.

2) To print a message to the LogCat write:

Debug.out ("something");

3) Create a filter in the LogCat and write "info" in the input "by Log Tag". All your messages will be written here. :)

Tip: Create another filter to filter all errors to debug easily.

ASP.NET jQuery Ajax Calling Code-Behind Method

Firstly, you probably want to add a return false; to the bottom of your Submit() method in JavaScript (so it stops the submit, since you're handling it in AJAX).

You're connecting to the complete event, not the success event - there's a significant difference and that's why your debugging results aren't as expected. Also, I've never made the signature methods match yours, and I've always provided a contentType and dataType. For example:

$.ajax({
        type: "POST",
        url: "Default.aspx/OnSubmit",
        data: dataValue,
        contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
        dataType: 'json',
        error: function (XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
            alert("Request: " + XMLHttpRequest.toString() + "\n\nStatus: " + textStatus + "\n\nError: " + errorThrown);
        },
        success: function (result) {
            alert("We returned: " + result);

SQL Server 2008 - Help writing simple INSERT Trigger

You want to take advantage of the inserted logical table that is available in the context of a trigger. It matches the schema for the table that is being inserted to and includes the row(s) that will be inserted (in an update trigger you have access to the inserted and deleted logical tables which represent the the new and original data respectively.)

So to insert Employee / Department pairs that do not currently exist you might try something like the following.

CREATE TRIGGER trig_Update_Employee
ON [EmployeeResult]
FOR INSERT
AS
Begin
    Insert into Employee (Name, Department)
    Select Distinct i.Name, i.Department
    from Inserted i
    Left Join Employee e

Difference between save and saveAndFlush in Spring data jpa

Depending on the hibernate flush mode that you are using (AUTO is the default) save may or may not write your changes to the DB straight away. When you call saveAndFlush you are enforcing the synchronization of your model state with the DB.

If you use flush mode AUTO and you are using your application to first save and then select the data again, you will not see a difference in bahvior between save() and saveAndFlush() because the select triggers a flush first. See the documention.

Using routes in Express-js

You could also organise them into modules. So it would be something like.

./
controllers
    index.js
    indexController.js
app.js

and then in the indexController.js of the controllers export your controllers.

//indexController.js
module.exports = function(){
//do some set up

var self = {
     indexAction : function (req,res){
       //do your thing
}
return self;
};

then in index.js of controllers dir

exports.indexController = require("./indexController");

and finally in app.js

var controllers = require("./controllers");

app.get("/",controllers.indexController().indexAction);

I think this approach allows for clearer seperation and also you can configure your controllers by passing perhaps a db connection in.

Why does configure say no C compiler found when GCC is installed?

Sometime gcc had created as /usr/bin/gcc32. so please create a ln -s /usr/bin/gcc32 /usr/bin/gcc and then compile that ./configure.

What does mvn install in maven exactly do

The install:install goal is provided by «Apache Maven Install Plugin»:

Apache Maven Install Plugin

The Install Plugin is used during the install phase to add artifact(s) to the local repository. The Install Plugin uses the information in the POM (groupId, artifactId, version) to determine the proper location for the artifact within the local repository.

The local repository is the local cache where all artifacts needed for the build are stored. By default, it is located within the user's home directory (~/.m2/repository) but the location can be configured in ~/.m2/settings.xml using the <localRepository> element.

Apache Maven Install Plugin - Introduction.

Having said that, the exact goal purpose:

install:install is used to automatically install the project's main artifact (the JAR, WAR or EAR), its POM and any attached artifacts (sources, javadoc, etc) produced by a particular project.

Apache Maven Install Plugin - Introduction.

For additional details on the goal, please refer to the Apache Maven Install Plugin - install:install page.

For additional details on the build lifecycle in general and on which place the goal has in the build lifecycle, please refer to the Maven – Introduction to the Build Lifecycle page.

How to change Oracle default data pump directory to import dumpfile?

You can use the following command to update the DATA PUMP DIRECTORY path,

create or replace directory DATA_PUMP_DIR as '/u01/app/oracle/admin/MYDB/dpdump/';

For me data path correction was required as I have restored the my database from production to test environment.

Same command can be used to create a new DATA PUMP DIRECTORY name and path.

How is a CSS "display: table-column" supposed to work?

The CSS table model is based on the HTML table model http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/tables.html

A table is divided into ROWS, and each row contains one or more cells. Cells are children of ROWS, they are NEVER children of columns.

"display: table-column" does NOT provide a mechanism for making columnar layouts (e.g. newspaper pages with multiple columns, where content can flow from one column to the next).

Rather, "table-column" ONLY sets attributes that apply to corresponding cells within the rows of a table. E.g. "The background color of the first cell in each row is green" can be described.

The table itself is always structured the same way it is in HTML.

In HTML (observe that "td"s are inside "tr"s, NOT inside "col"s):

<table ..>
  <col .. />
  <col .. />
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
</table>

Corresponding HTML using CSS table properties (Note that the "column" divs do not contain any contents -- the standard does not allow for contents directly in columns):

_x000D_
_x000D_
.mytable {_x000D_
  display: table;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.myrow {_x000D_
  display: table-row;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.mycell {_x000D_
  display: table-cell;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.column1 {_x000D_
  display: table-column;_x000D_
  background-color: green;_x000D_
}_x000D_
.column2 {_x000D_
  display: table-column;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="mytable">_x000D_
  <div class="column1"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="column2"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow">_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of first cell in row 1</div>_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of second cell in row 1</div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow">_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of first cell in row 2</div>_x000D_
    <div class="mycell">contents of second cell in row 2</div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_

OPTIONAL: both "rows" and "columns" can be styled by assigning multiple classes to each row and cell as follows. This approach gives maximum flexibility in specifying various sets of cells, or individual cells, to be styled:

_x000D_
_x000D_
//Useful css declarations, depending on what you want to affect, include:_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all cells (that have "class=mycell") */_x000D_
.mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* class row1, wherever it is used */_x000D_
.row1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all the cells of row1 (if you've put "class=mycell" on each cell) */_x000D_
.row1 .mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of row1 */_x000D_
.row1 .cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of all rows */_x000D_
.cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* row1 inside class mytable (so can have different tables with different styles) */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* all the cells of row1 of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 .mycell {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of row1 of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .row1 .cell1 {_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
/* cell1 of all rows of a mytable */_x000D_
.mytable .cell1 {_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="mytable">_x000D_
  <div class="column1"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="column2"></div>_x000D_
  <div class="myrow row1">_x000D_
    <div class="mycell cell1">contents of first cell in row 1</div>_x000D_
    <div class="mycell cell2">contents of second cell in row 1</div>_x000D_

</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

In today's flexible designs, which use <div> for multiple purposes, it is wise to put some class on each div, to help refer to it. Here, what used to be <tr> in HTML became class myrow, and <td> became class mycell. This convention is what makes the above CSS selectors useful.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: putting class names on each cell, and using the above multi-class selectors, is better performance than using selectors ending with *, such as .row1 * or even .row1 > *. The reason is that selectors are matched last first, so when matching elements are being sought, .row1 * first does *, which matches all elements, and then checks all the ancestors of each element, to find if any ancestor has class row1. This might be slow in a complex document on a slow device. .row1 > * is better, because only the immediate parent is examined. But it is much better still to immediately eliminate most elements, via .row1 .cell1. (.row1 > .cell1 is an even tighter spec, but it is the first step of the search that makes the biggest difference, so it usually isn't worth the clutter, and the extra thought process as to whether it will always be a direct child, of adding the child selector >.)

The key point to take away re performance is that the last item in a selector should be as specific as possible, and should never be *.

How to detect READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT is enabled?

SELECT is_read_committed_snapshot_on FROM sys.databases
WHERE name= 'YourDatabase'

Return value:

  • 1: READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT option is ON. Read operations under the READ COMMITTED isolation level are based on snapshot scans and do not acquire locks.
  • 0 (default): READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT option is OFF. Read operations under the READ COMMITTED isolation level use Shared (S) locks.

Change UITableView height dynamically

There isn't a system feature to change the height of the table based upon the contents of the tableview. Having said that, it is possible to programmatically change the height of the tableview based upon the contents, specifically based upon the contentSize of the tableview (which is easier than manually calculating the height yourself). A few of the particulars vary depending upon whether you're using the new autolayout that's part of iOS 6, or not.

But assuming you're configuring your table view's underlying model in viewDidLoad, if you want to then adjust the height of the tableview, you can do this in viewDidAppear:

- (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated
{
    [super viewDidAppear:animated];

    [self adjustHeightOfTableview];
}

Likewise, if you ever perform a reloadData (or otherwise add or remove rows) for a tableview, you'd want to make sure that you also manually call adjustHeightOfTableView there, too, e.g.:

- (IBAction)onPressButton:(id)sender
{
    [self buildModel];
    [self.tableView reloadData];

    [self adjustHeightOfTableview];
}

So the question is what should our adjustHeightOfTableview do. Unfortunately, this is a function of whether you use the iOS 6 autolayout or not. You can determine if you have autolayout turned on by opening your storyboard or NIB and go to the "File Inspector" (e.g. press option+command+1 or click on that first tab on the panel on the right):

enter image description here

Let's assume for a second that autolayout was off. In that case, it's quite simple and adjustHeightOfTableview would just adjust the frame of the tableview:

- (void)adjustHeightOfTableview
{
    CGFloat height = self.tableView.contentSize.height;
    CGFloat maxHeight = self.tableView.superview.frame.size.height - self.tableView.frame.origin.y;

    // if the height of the content is greater than the maxHeight of
    // total space on the screen, limit the height to the size of the
    // superview.

    if (height > maxHeight)
        height = maxHeight;

    // now set the frame accordingly

    [UIView animateWithDuration:0.25 animations:^{
        CGRect frame = self.tableView.frame;
        frame.size.height = height;
        self.tableView.frame = frame;

        // if you have other controls that should be resized/moved to accommodate
        // the resized tableview, do that here, too
    }];
}

If your autolayout was on, though, adjustHeightOfTableview would adjust a height constraint for your tableview:

- (void)adjustHeightOfTableview
{
    CGFloat height = self.tableView.contentSize.height;
    CGFloat maxHeight = self.tableView.superview.frame.size.height - self.tableView.frame.origin.y;

    // if the height of the content is greater than the maxHeight of
    // total space on the screen, limit the height to the size of the
    // superview.

    if (height > maxHeight)
        height = maxHeight;

    // now set the height constraint accordingly

    [UIView animateWithDuration:0.25 animations:^{
        self.tableViewHeightConstraint.constant = height;
        [self.view setNeedsUpdateConstraints];
    }];
}

For this latter constraint-based solution to work with autolayout, we must take care of a few things first:

  1. Make sure your tableview has a height constraint by clicking on the center button in the group of buttons here and then choose to add the height constraint:

    add height constraint

  2. Then add an IBOutlet for that constraint:

    add IBOutlet

  3. Make sure you adjust other constraints so they don't conflict if you adjust the size tableview programmatically. In my example, the tableview had a trailing space constraint that locked it to the bottom of the screen, so I had to adjust that constraint so that rather than being locked at a particular size, it could be greater or equal to a value, and with a lower priority, so that the height and top of the tableview would rule the day:

    adjust other constraints

    What you do here with other constraints will depend entirely upon what other controls you have on your screen below the tableview. As always, dealing with constraints is a little awkward, but it definitely works, though the specifics in your situation depend entirely upon what else you have on the scene. But hopefully you get the idea. Bottom line, with autolayout, make sure to adjust your other constraints (if any) to be flexible to account for the changing tableview height.

As you can see, it's much easier to programmatically adjust the height of a tableview if you're not using autolayout, but in case you are, I present both alternatives.

CSS background-image-opacity?

body {
  ' css code that goes in your body'
}

body::after {
  background: url(yourfilename.jpg);
  content: "";
  opacity: 0.6;
  position: fixed;
  top: 0;
  bottom: 0;
  right: 0;
  left: 0;
  z-index: -1;
  width:auto;
  height: 100%;
  }

So to say its the body::after you are looking for. This way the code for your body is not changed or altered only the background where you can make changes where necessary.

AngularJS - Attribute directive input value change

Since this must have an input element as a parent, you could just use

<input type="text" ng-model="foo" ng-change="myOnChangeFunction()">

Alternatively, you could use the ngModelController and add a function to $formatters, which executes functions on input change. See http://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng.directive:ngModel.NgModelController

.directive("myDirective", function() {
  return {
    restrict: 'A',
    require: 'ngModel',
    link: function(scope, element, attr, ngModel) {
      ngModel.$formatters.push(function(value) {
        // Do stuff here, and return the formatted value.
      });
  };
};

Best way to work with dates in Android SQLite

I prefer this. This is not the best way, but a fast solution.

//Building the table includes:
StringBuilder query= new StringBuilder();
query.append("CREATE TABLE "+TABLE_NAME+ " (");

query.append(COLUMN_CREATION_DATE+" DATE)");

//Inserting the data includes this:
SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS");
values.put(COLUMN_CREATION_DATE,dateFormat.format(reactionGame.getCreationDate()));

// Fetching the data includes this:
try {
   java.util.Date creationDate = dateFormat.parse(cursor.getString(0);
   YourObject.setCreationDate(creationDate));
} catch (Exception e) {
   YourObject.setCreationDate(null);

How to remove commits from a pull request

People wouldn't like to see a wrong commit and a revert commit to undo changes of the wrong commit. This pollutes commit history.

Here is a simple way for removing the wrong commit instead of undoing changes with a revert commit.

  1. git checkout my-pull-request-branch

  2. git rebase -i HEAD~n // where n is the number of last commits you want to include in interactive rebase.

  3. Replace pick with drop for commits you want to discard.
  4. Save and exit.
  5. git push --force

Django -- Template tag in {% if %} block

You try this.

I have already tried it in my django template.

It will work fine. Just remove the curly braces pair {{ and }} from {{source}}.

I have also added <table> tag and that's it.

After modification your code will look something like below.

{% for source in sources %}
   <table>
      <tr>
          <td>{{ source }}</td>
          <td>

Android textview usage as label and value

You should implement a Custom List View, such that you define a Layout once and draw it for every row in the list view.

Can anyone explain what JSONP is, in layman terms?

JSONP is a way of getting around the browser's same-origin policy. How? Like this:

enter image description here

The goal here is to make a request to otherdomain.com and alert the name in the response. Normally we'd make an AJAX request:

$.get('otherdomain.com', function (response) {
  var name = response.name;
  alert(name);
});

However, since the request is going out to a different domain, it won't work.

We can make the request using a <script> tag though. Both <script src="otherdomain.com"></script> and $.get('otherdomain.com') will result in the same request being made:

GET otherdomain.com

Q: But if we use the <script> tag, how could we access the response? We need to access it if we want to alert it.

A: Uh, we can't. But here's what we could do - define a function that uses the response, and then tell the server to respond with JavaScript that calls our function with the response as its argument.

Q: But what if the server won't do this for us, and is only willing to return JSON to us?

A: Then we won't be able to use it. JSONP requires the server to cooperate.

Q: Having to use a <script> tag is ugly.

A: Libraries like jQuery make it nicer. Ex:

$.ajax({
    url: "http://otherdomain.com",
    jsonp: "callback",
    dataType: "jsonp",
    success: function( response ) {
        console.log( response );
    }
});

It works by dynamically creating the <script> tag DOM element.

Q: <script> tags only make GET requests - what if we want to make a POST request?

A: Then JSONP won't work for us.

Q: That's ok, I just want to make a GET request. JSONP is awesome and I'm going to go use it - thanks!

A: Actually, it isn't that awesome. It's really just a hack. And it isn't the safest thing to use. Now that CORS is available, you should use it whenever possible.

Regex to validate date format dd/mm/yyyy

I suspect that the following is as accurate as can be expected without knowing when the user's locale switched over from the Julian to the Gregorian calendars.

It accepts either '-', '/', or nothing as separators between year, month, and day, no matter the order.

MMddyyyy:

^(((0[13-9]|1[012])[-/]?(0[1-9]|[12][0-9]|30)|(0[13578]|1[02])[-/]?31|02[-/]?(0[1-9]|1[0-9]|2[0-8]))[-/]?[0-9]{4}|02[-/]?29[-/]?([0-9]{2}(([2468][048]|[02468][48])|[13579][26])|([13579][26]|[02468][048]|0[0-9]|1[0-6])00))$

ddMMyyyy:

^(((0[1-9]|[12][0-9]|30)[-/]?(0[13-9]|1[012])|31[-/]?(0[13578]|1[02])|(0[1-9]|1[0-9]|2[0-8])[-/]?02)[-/]?[0-9]{4}|29[-/]?02[-/]?([0-9]{2}(([2468][048]|[02468][48])|[13579][26])|([13579][26]|[02468][048]|0[0-9]|1[0-6])00))$

yyyyMMdd:

^([0-9]{4}[-/]?((0[13-9]|1[012])[-/]?(0[1-9]|[12][0-9]|30)|(0[13578]|1[02])[-/]?31|02[-/]?(0[1-9]|1[0-9]|2[0-8]))|([0-9]{2}(([2468][048]|[02468][48])|[13579][26])|([13579][26]|[02468][048]|0[0-9]|1[0-6])00)[-/]?02[-/]?29)$

Other than order, these all are accurate to the Julian Calendar (leap year every four years) until 1700, when the Gregorian Calendar diverges from the Julian. It has two issues:

  1. It accepts the year 0000, which doesn't exist in many, but not all, standards. Note that ISO 8601 does accept year 0000 (equivalent to 1 BCE).
  2. It doesn't skip the 10-13 days which were lost when the Gregorian Calendar came into use. This varies by locality though. For example, the Roman Catholic Church skipped 10 days, October 5th through October 14th, 1582, but Greece (the last to switch) skipped February 16th through the 28th of 1923, 13 days, having to take into account the leap years of 1700, 1800, and 1900.

This has been tested against Java's calendar implementation from the year 0001 until the year 9999 with the only discrepancy being the abovementioned 10 days in 1582.

What’s the difference between “{}” and “[]” while declaring a JavaScript array?

When you declare

var a=[];

you are declaring a empty array.

But when you are declaring

var a={};

you are declaring a Object .

Although Array is also Object in Javascript but it is numeric key paired values. Which have all the functionality of object but Added some few method of Array like Push,Splice,Length and so on.

So if you want Some values where you need to use numeric keys use Array. else use object. you can Create object like:

var a={name:"abc",age:"14"};

And can access values like

console.log(a.name);

copy db file with adb pull results in 'permission denied' error

This generic solution should work on all rooted devices:

 adb shell "su -c cat /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db" > contacts2.d

The command connects as shell, then executes cat as root and collects the output into a local file.

In opposite to @guest-418 s solution, one does not have to dig for the user in question.

Plus If you get greedy and want all the db's at once (eg. for backup)

for i in `adb shell "su -c find /data -name '*.db'"`; do
    mkdir -p ".`dirname $i`"
    adb shell "su -c cat $i" > ".$i"
done

This adds a mysteryous question mark to the end of the filename, but it is still readable.

What does the error "arguments imply differing number of rows: x, y" mean?

Your data.frame mat is rectangular (n_rows!= n_cols).

Therefore, you cannot make a data.frame out of the column- and rownames, because each column in a data.frame must be the same length.

Maybe this suffices your needs:

require(reshape2)
mat$id <- rownames(mat)
melt(mat)

Length of string in bash

Here is couple of ways to calculate length of variable :

echo ${#VAR}
echo -n $VAR | wc -m
echo -n $VAR | wc -c
printf $VAR | wc -m
expr length $VAR
expr $VAR : '.*'

and to set the result in another variable just assign above command with back quote into another variable as following:

otherVar=`echo -n $VAR | wc -m`
echo $otherVar

How to Calculate Jump Target Address and Branch Target Address?

I think it would be quite hard to calculate those because the branch target address is determined at run time and that prediction is done in hardware. If you explained the problem a bit more in depth and described what you are trying to do it would be a little easier to help. (:

Add marker to Google Map on Click

  1. First declare the marker:
this.marker = new google.maps.Marker({
   position: new google.maps.LatLng(12.924640523603115,77.61965398949724),
   map: map
});
  1. Call the method to plot the marker on click:
this.placeMarker(coordinates, this.map);
  1. Define the function:
placeMarker(location, map) {
    var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
        position: location,
        map: map
    });
    this.markersArray.push(marker);

Why I can't change directories using "cd"?

You can use . to execute a script in the current shell environment:

. script_name

or alternatively, its more readable but shell specific alias source:

source script_name

This avoids the subshell, and allows any variables or builtins (including cd) to affect the current shell instead.

How do I launch a Git Bash window with particular working directory using a script?

I'm not familiar with Git Bash but assuming that it is a git shell (such as git-sh) residing in /path/to/my/gitshell and your favorite terminal program is called `myterm' you can script the following:

(cd dir1; myterm -e /path/to/my/gitshell) &
(cd dir2; myterm -e /path/to/my/gitshell) &
...

Note that the parameter -e for execution may be named differently with your favorite terminal program.

MVC3 EditorFor readOnly

For those who wonder why you want to use an EditoFor if you don`t want it to be editable, I have an example.

I have this in my Model.

    [DataType(DataType.Date)]
    [DisplayFormat(ApplyFormatInEditMode = true, DataFormatString = "{0: dd/MM/yyyy}")]
    public DateTime issueDate { get; set; }

and when you want to display that format, the only way it works is with an EditorFor, but I have a jquery datepicker for that "input" so it has to be readonly to avoid the users of writting down wrong dates.

To make it work the way I want I put this in the View...

     @Html.EditorFor(m => m.issueDate, new{ @class="inp", @style="width:200px", @MaxLength = "200"})

and this in my ready function...

     $('#issueDate').prop('readOnly', true);

I hope this would be helpful for someone out there. Sorry for my English

How can I get a Unicode character's code?

A more complete, albeit more verbose, way of doing this would be to use the Character.codePointAt method. This will handle 'high surrogate' characters, that cannot be represented by a single integer within the range that a char can represent.

In the example you've given this is not strictly necessary - if the (Unicode) character can fit inside a single (Java) char (such as the registered local variable) then it must fall within the \u0000 to \uffff range, and you won't need to worry about surrogate pairs. But if you're looking at potentially higher code points, from within a String/char array, then calling this method is wise in order to cover the edge cases.

For example, instead of

String input = ...;
char fifthChar = input.charAt(4);
int codePoint = (int)fifthChar;

use

String input = ...;
int codePoint = Character.codePointAt(input, 4);

Not only is this slightly less code in this instance, but it will handle detection of surrogate pairs for you.

JavaScript blob filename without link

window.location.assign did not work for me. it downloads fine but downloads without an extension for a CSV file on Windows platform. The following worked for me.

    var blob = new Blob([csvString], { type: 'text/csv' });
    //window.location.assign(window.URL.createObjectURL(blob));
    var link = window.document.createElement('a');
    link.href = window.URL.createObjectURL(blob);
    // Construct filename dynamically and set to link.download
    link.download = link.href.split('/').pop() + '.' + extension;
    document.body.appendChild(link);
    link.click();
    document.body.removeChild(link);

Angular 2 - Using 'this' inside setTimeout

this.messageSuccess = true;

      this.messageSuccess = false;
 }, 3000);

How can I scroll to a specific location on the page using jquery?

Here is variant of @juraj-blahunka's lightweight approach. This function does not assume the container is the document and only scrolls if the item is out of view. Animation queuing is also disabled to avoid unnecessary bouncing.

$.fn.scrollToView = function () {
    return $.each(this, function () {
        if ($(this).position().top < 0 ||
            $(this).position().top + $(this).height() > $(this).parent().height()) {
            $(this).parent().animate({
                scrollTop: $(this).parent().scrollTop() + $(this).position().top
            }, {
                duration: 300,
                queue: false
            });
        }
    });

How to convert integer into date object python?

I would suggest the following simple approach for conversion:

from datetime import datetime, timedelta
s = "20120213"
# you could also import date instead of datetime and use that.
date = datetime(year=int(s[0:4]), month=int(s[4:6]), day=int(s[6:8]))

For adding/subtracting an arbitary amount of days (seconds work too btw.), you could do the following:

date += timedelta(days=10)
date -= timedelta(days=5)

And convert back using:

s = date.strftime("%Y%m%d")

To convert the integer to a string safely, use:

s = "{0:-08d}".format(i)

This ensures that your string is eight charecters long and left-padded with zeroes, even if the year is smaller than 1000 (negative years could become funny though).

In Oracle, is it possible to INSERT or UPDATE a record through a view?

Views in Oracle may be updateable under specific conditions. It can be tricky, and usually is not advisable.

From the Oracle 10g SQL Reference:

Notes on Updatable Views

An updatable view is one you can use to insert, update, or delete base table rows. You can create a view to be inherently updatable, or you can create an INSTEAD OF trigger on any view to make it updatable.

To learn whether and in what ways the columns of an inherently updatable view can be modified, query the USER_UPDATABLE_COLUMNS data dictionary view. The information displayed by this view is meaningful only for inherently updatable views. For a view to be inherently updatable, the following conditions must be met:

  • Each column in the view must map to a column of a single table. For example, if a view column maps to the output of a TABLE clause (an unnested collection), then the view is not inherently updatable.
  • The view must not contain any of the following constructs:
    • A set operator
    • a DISTINCT operator
    • An aggregate or analytic function
    • A GROUP BY, ORDER BY, MODEL, CONNECT BY, or START WITH clause
    • A collection expression in a SELECT list
    • A subquery in a SELECT list
    • A subquery designated WITH READ ONLY
    • Joins, with some exceptions, as documented in Oracle Database Administrator's Guide

In addition, if an inherently updatable view contains pseudocolumns or expressions, then you cannot update base table rows with an UPDATE statement that refers to any of these pseudocolumns or expressions.

If you want a join view to be updatable, then all of the following conditions must be true:

  • The DML statement must affect only one table underlying the join.
  • For an INSERT statement, the view must not be created WITH CHECK OPTION, and all columns into which values are inserted must come from a key-preserved table. A key-preserved table is one for which every primary key or unique key value in the base table is also unique in the join view.
  • For an UPDATE statement, all columns updated must be extracted from a key-preserved table. If the view was created WITH CHECK OPTION, then join columns and columns taken from tables that are referenced more than once in the view must be shielded from UPDATE.
  • For a DELETE statement, if the join results in more than one key-preserved table, then Oracle Database deletes from the first table named in the FROM clause, whether or not the view was created WITH CHECK OPTION.

Angular Material: mat-select not selecting default

A very simple way to achieve this is using a formControl with a default value, inside a FormGroup (optional) for example. This is an example using an unit selector to an area input:

ts

H_AREA_UNIT = 1;
M_AREA_UNIT = 2;

exampleForm: FormGroup;

this.exampleForm = this.formBuilder.group({
  areaUnit: [this.H_AREA_UNIT],
});

html

<form [formGroup]="exampleForm">
 <mat-form-field>
   <mat-label>Unit</mat-label>
   <mat-select formControlName="areaUnit">
     <mat-option [value]="H_AREA_UNIT">h</mat-option>
     <mat-option [value]="M_AREA_UNIT">m</mat-option>
   </mat-select>
 </mat-form-field>
</form>

What is the effect of encoding an image in base64?

The answer is: It depends.

Although base64-images are larger, there a few conditions where base64 is the better choice.

Size of base64-images

Base64 uses 64 different characters and this is 2^6. So base64 stores 6bit per 8bit character. So the proportion is 6/8 from unconverted data to base64 data. This is no exact calculation, but a rough estimate.

Example:

An 48kb image needs around 64kb as base64 converted image.

Calculation: (48 / 6) * 8 = 64

Simple CLI calculator on Linux systems:

$ cat /dev/urandom|head -c 48000|base64|wc -c
64843

Or using an image:

$ cat my.png|base64|wc -c

Base64-images and websites

This question is much more difficult to answer. Generally speaking, as larger the image as less sense using base64. But consider the following points:

  • A lot of embedded images in an HTML-File or CSS-File can have similar strings. For PNGs you often find repeated "A" chars. Using gzip (sometimes called "deflate"), there might be even a win on size. But it depends on image content.
  • Request overhead of HTTP1.1: Especially with a lot of cookies you can easily have a few kilobytes overhead per request. Embedding base64 images might save bandwith.
  • Do not base64 encode SVG images, because gzip is more effective on XML than on base64.
  • Programming: On dynamically generated images it is easier to deliver them in one request as to coordinate two dependent requests.
  • Deeplinks: If you want to prevent downloading the image, it is a little bit trickier to extract an image from an HTML page.

Python vs Bash - In which kind of tasks each one outruns the other performance-wise?

I'm posting this late answer primarily because Google likes this question.

I believe the issue and context really should be about the workflow, not the tools. The overall philosophy is always "Use the right tool for the job." But before this comes one that many often forget when they get lost in the tools: "Get the job done."

When I have a problem that isn't completely defined, I almost always start with Bash. I have solved some gnarly problems in large Bash scripts that are both readable and maintainable.

But when does the problem start to exceed what Bash should be asked to do? I have some checks I use to give me warnings:

  1. Am I wishing Bash had 2D (or higher) arrays? If yes, it's time to realize that Bash is not a great data processing language.
  2. Am I doing more work preparing data for other utilities than I am actually running those utilities? If yes, time again to realize Bash is not a great data processing language.
  3. Is my script simply getting too large to manage? If yes, it is important to realize that while Bash can import script libraries, it lacks a package system like other languages. It's really a "roll your own" language compared to most others. Then again, it has a enormous amount of functionality built-in (some say too much...)

The list goes on. Bottom-line, when you are working harder to keep your scripts running that you do adding features, it's time to leave Bash.

Let's assume you've decided to move your work to Python. If your Bash scripts are clean, the initial conversion is quite straightforward. There are even several converters / translators that will do the first pass for you.

The next question is: What do you give up moving to Python?

  1. All calls to external utilities must be wrapped in something from the subprocess module (or equivalent). There are multiple ways to do this, and until 3.7 it took some effort to get it right (3.7 improved subprocess.run() to handle all common cases on its own).

  2. Surprisingly, Python has no standard platform-independent non-blocking utility (with timeout) for polling the keyboard (stdin). The Bash read command is an awesome tool for simple user interaction. My most common use is to show a spinner until the user presses a key, while also running a polling function (with each spinner step) to make sure things are still running well. This is a harder problem than it would appear at first, so I often simply make a call to Bash: Expensive, but it does precisely what I need.

  3. If you are developing on an embedded or memory-constrained system, Python's memory footprint can be many times larger than Bash's (depending on the task at hand). Plus, there is almost always an instance of Bash already in memory, which may not be the case for Python.

  4. For scripts that run once and exit quickly, Python's startup time can be much longer than Bash's. But if the script contains significant calculations, Python quickly pulls ahead.

  5. Python has the most comprehensive package system on the planet. When Bash gets even slightly complex, Python probably has a package that makes whole chunks of Bash become a single call. However, finding the right package(s) to use is the biggest and most daunting part of becoming a Pythonista. Fortunately, Google and StackExchange are your friends.

Read all worksheets in an Excel workbook into an R list with data.frames

To read multiple sheets from a workbook, use readxl package as follows:

library(readxl)
library(dplyr)

final_dataFrame <- bind_rows(path_to_workbook %>%
                              excel_sheets() %>%
                              set_names() %>%
                              map(read_excel, path = path_to_workbook))

Here, bind_rows (dplyr) will put all data rows from all sheets into one data frame, and path_to_workbook is the location of your data: "dir/of/the/data/workbook".

Why does this SQL code give error 1066 (Not unique table/alias: 'user')?

Your error is because you have:

     JOIN user ON article.author_id = user.id
LEFT JOIN user ON article.modified_by = user.id

You have two instances of the same table, but the database can't determine which is which. To fix this, you need to use table aliases:

     JOIN USER u ON article.author_id = u.id
LEFT JOIN USER u2 ON article.modified_by = u2.id

It's good habit to always alias your tables, unless you like writing the full table name all the time when you don't have situations like these.

The next issues to address will be:

SELECT article.* , section.title, category.title, user.name, user.name

1) Never use SELECT * - always spell out the columns you want, even if it is the entire table. Read this SO Question to understand why.

2) You'll get ambiguous column errors relating to the user.name columns because again, the database can't tell which table instance to pull data from. Using table aliases fixes the issue:

SELECT article.* , section.title, category.title, u.name, u2.name

Moment JS start and end of given month

const dates = getDatesFromDateRange("2014-05-02", "2018-05-12", "YYYY/MM/DD", 1);
console.log(dates);
// you get the whole from-to date ranges as per parameters
var onlyStartDates = dates.map(dateObj => dateObj["to"]);
console.log(onlyStartDates);
// moreover, if you want only from dates then you can grab by "map" function

function getDatesFromDateRange( startDate, endDate, format, counter ) {
    startDate = moment(startDate, format);
    endDate = moment(endDate, format);

    let dates = [];
    let fromDate = startDate.clone();
    let toDate = fromDate.clone().add(counter, "month").startOf("month").add(-1, "day");
    do {
        dates.push({
            "from": fromDate.format(format),
            "to": ( toDate < endDate ) ? toDate.format(format) : endDate.format(format)
        });
        fromDate = moment(toDate, format).add(1, "day").clone();
        toDate = fromDate.clone().add(counter, "month").startOf("month").add(-1, "day");
    } while ( fromDate < endDate );
    return dates;
}

Please note, .clone() is essential in momentjs else it'll override the value. It seems in your case.

It's more generic, to get bunch of dates that fall between dates.

How to install JSTL? The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jstl/core cannot be resolved

KnockoutJs v2.3.0 : Error You cannot apply bindings multiple times to the same element

If you are reusing an element over and over (A bootstrap modal dialog in my case), then calling ko.applyBindings(el) multiple times will cause this problem.

Instead just do it once like this:

if (!applied) {
    ko.applyBindings(el);
    applied = true;
}

Or like this:

var apply = function (viewModel, containerElement) {
    ko.applyBindings(viewModel, containerElement);
    apply = function() {}; // only allow this function to be called once.
}

PS: This might happen more often to you if you use the mapping plugin and convert your JSON data to observables.

Page vs Window in WPF?

Page Control can be contained in Window Control but vice versa is not possible

You can use Page control within the Window control using NavigationWindow and Frame controls. Window is the root control that must be used to hold/host other controls (e.g. Button) as container. Page is a control which can be hosted in other container controls like NavigationWindow or Frame. Page control has its own goal to serve like other controls (e.g. Button). Page is to create browser like applications. So if you host Page in NavigationWindow, you will get the navigation implementation built-in. Pages are intended for use in Navigation applications (usually with Back and Forward buttons, e.g. Internet Explorer).

WPF provides support for browser style navigation inside standalone application using Page class. User can create multiple pages, navigate between those pages along with data.There are multiple ways available to Navigate through one page to another page.

Best Practice: Software Versioning

Yet another example for the A.B.C approach is the Eclipse Bundle Versioning. Eclipse bundles rather have a fourth segment:

In Eclipse, version numbers are composed of four (4) segments: 3 integers and a string respectively named major.minor.service.qualifier. Each segment captures a different intent:

  • the major segment indicates breakage in the API
  • the minor segment indicates "externally visible" changes
  • the service segment indicates bug fixes and the change of development stream
  • the qualifier segment indicates a particular build

Using FolderBrowserDialog in WPF application

If I'm not mistaken you're looking for the FolderBrowserDialog (hence the naming):

var dialog = new System.Windows.Forms.FolderBrowserDialog();
System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult result = dialog.ShowDialog();

Reducing MongoDB database file size

mongoDB -repair is not recommended in case of sharded cluster.

If using replica set sharded cluster, use compact command, it will rewrites and defragments all data and index files of all collections. syntax:

db.runCommand( { compact : "collection_name" } )

when used with force:true, compact runs on primary of replica set. e.g. db.runCommand ( { command : "collection_name", force : true } )

Other points to consider: -It blocks the operations. so recommended to execute in maintenance window. -If replica sets running on different servers, needs to be execute on each member separately - In case of sharded cluster, compact needs to execute on each shard member separately. Cannot execute against mongos instance.

Android how to convert int to String?

Normal ways would be Integer.toString(i) or String.valueOf(i).

int i = 5;
String strI = String.valueOf(i);

Or

int aInt = 1;
String aString = Integer.toString(aInt);

Difference between object and class in Scala

An object has exactly one instance (you can not call new MyObject). You can have multiple instances of a class.

Object serves the same (and some additional) purposes as the static methods and fields in Java.

The entity type <type> is not part of the model for the current context

The problem may be in the connection string. Ensure your connection string is for SqlClient provider, with no metadata stuff related to EntityFramework.

Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function while using jQuery UI

jQuery(document).ready(function(){
    jQuery('#datetimepicker').datepicker();
})

I don't know your file-structure. I never include local files like this as I use relative URLs from the start rather than having to change everytime I'm ready to use the code, but it's likely one of the files isn't being loaded in. I've included the standard datepicker below using Google CDN's jQuery UI. Does your console log any resources not found?

I think your jQuery is loaded OK, because it's not telling you jQuery is not defined so it's one of your files.

BTW, PHP gets the home URL:

$home="http://" . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].'/';

Check if element is in the list (contains)

A one-liner solution, similar to python, would be (std::set<int> {1, 2, 3, 4}).count(my_var) > 0.

Minimal working example

int my_var = 3;
bool myVarIn = (std::set<int> {1, 2, 3, 4}).count(my_var) > 0;
std::cout << std::boolalpha << myVarIn << std::endl;

prints true or false dependent of the value of my_var.

How to reverse MD5 to get the original string?

Its not possible thats the whole point of hashing. You can however bruteforce by going through all possibilities (using all possible digits characters in every possible order) and hashing them and checking for a collision.

for more information on hashing and MD5 etc see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_hash_function and http://onin.com/hhh/hhhexpl.html

I myself created my own app to do this, its open source you can check the link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jpassrecovery/ and of course the source. Here is the source for easy access it has a basic implementation in the comments:

CSS 3 slide-in from left transition

Use CSS3 2D transform to avoid performance issues (mobile)

A common pitfall is to animate left/top/right/bottom properties instead of using to achieve the same effect. For a variety of reasons, the semantics of transforms make them easier to offload, but left/top/right/bottom are much more difficult.

Is Java "pass-by-reference" or "pass-by-value"?

As many people mentioned it before, Java is always pass-by-value

Here is another example that will help you understand the difference (the classic swap example):

public class Test {
  public static void main(String[] args) {
    Integer a = new Integer(2);
    Integer b = new Integer(3);
    System.out.println("Before: a = " + a + ", b = " + b);
    swap(a,b);
    System.out.println("After: a = " + a + ", b = " + b);
  }

  public static swap(Integer iA, Integer iB) {
    Integer tmp = iA;
    iA = iB;
    iB = tmp;
  }
}

Prints:

Before: a = 2, b = 3
After: a = 2, b = 3

This happens because iA and iB are new local reference variables that have the same value of the passed references (they point to a and b respectively). So, trying to change the references of iA or iB will only change in the local scope and not outside of this method.

How to set table name in dynamic SQL query?

This is the best way to get a schema dynamically and add it to the different tables within a database in order to get other information dynamically

select @sql = 'insert #tables SELECT ''[''+SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id)+''.''+name+'']'' AS SchemaTable FROM sys.tables'

exec (@sql)

of course #tables is a dynamic table in the stored procedure

What are the differences between if, else, and else if?

you can think of the if and else as a pair, that satisfies two actions for one given condition.
ex: if it rains, take an umbrella else go without an umbrella.
there are two actions

  • go with an umbrella
  • go without an umbrella

and both the two actions are bound to one condition, i.e is it raining?

now, consider a scenario where there are multiple conditions and actions, bound together.
ex: if you are hungry and you are not broke, enjoy your meal at kfc, else if you are hungry but you are broke, try to compromise, else if you are not hungry, but you just want to hangout in a cafe, try startbucks, else do anything, just don't ask me about hunger or food. i have got bigger things to worry.
the else if statement to to string together all the actions that falls in between the if and the else conditions.

How to install MySQLdb (Python data access library to MySQL) on Mac OS X?

If you are using 64 bit MySQL, using ARCHFLAGS to specify your cpu architecture while building mysql-python libraries would do the trick:

ARCHFLAGS='-arch x86_64' python setup.py build
ARCHFLAGS='-arch x86_64' python setup.py install

Stop floating divs from wrapping

I had a somewhat similar problem where a bounded area consisted of an image in a float:left block and a non-float text block. The area has a fluid width. The text would, by design, wrap up along the right side of the image. The trouble was, the text began with an <h4> tag, the first word of which is the tiny word "From." As I resized the window to a smaller width, the non-floated text would, for a certain range of widths, leave only the word "From" at the top of the wrap area, the rest of the text having been squeezed below the float block. My solution was to make the first word of the tag bigger, by replacing the space that followed it with this code, <span style="opacity:0;">x</span> . The effect was to make the first word, instead of "From", "FromxNextWord", where the "x", being invisible, looked like a space. Now my first word was big enough not to be abandoned by the rest of the text block.

Should jQuery's $(form).submit(); not trigger onSubmit within the form tag?

I suppose it's reasonable to want this behavior in some cases, but I would argue that code not triggering a form submission should (always) be the default behavior. Suppose you want to catch a form's submission with

$("form").submit(function(e){
    e.preventDefault();
});

and then do some validation on the input. If code could trigger submit handlers, you could never include

$("form").submit()

inside this handler because it would result in an infinite loop (the SAME handler would be called, prevent the submission, validate, and resubmit). You need to be able to manually submit a form inside a submit handler without triggering the same handler.

I realize this doesn't ANSWER the question directly, but there are lots of other answers on this page about how this functionality can be hacked, and I felt that this needed to be pointed out (and it's too long for a comment).

Import an existing git project into GitLab?

git clone --mirror [email protected]:username/repo-name.git

git remote add gitlab ssh://[email protected]/username/repo.git

git push -f --tags gitlab refs/heads/*:refs/heads/*

It is better to do it over ssh, the https might won't work

Run text file as commands in Bash

you can also just run it with a shell, for example:

bash example.txt

sh example.txt

For me following fixed the issue:

  1. npm cache clear
  2. Made sure that NPM & Git proxies are set properly

In this case Git proxy may not be required.

What is the difference between application server and web server?

Both terms are very generic, one containing the other one and vice versa in some cases.

  • Web server: serves content to the web using http protocol.

  • Application server: hosts and exposes business logic and processes.

I think that the main point is that the web server exposes everything through the http protocol, while the application server is not restricted to it.

That said, in many scenarios you will find that the web server is being used to create the front-end of the application server, that is, it exposes a set of web pages that allow the user to interact with the business rules found into the application server.

C:\>cmd /?
Starts a new instance of the Windows XP command interpreter

CMD [/A | /U] [/Q] [/D] [/E:ON | /E:OFF] [/F:ON | /F:OFF] [/V:ON | /V:OFF]
    [[/S] [/C | /K] string]

/C Carries out the command specified by string and then terminates
/K Carries out the command specified by string but remains
/S Modifies the treatment of string after /C or /K (see below)
/Q      Turns echo off
/D Disable execution of AutoRun commands from registry (see below)
/A Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be ANSI
/U Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be
        Unicode
/T:fg Sets the foreground/background colors (see COLOR /? for more info)
/E:ON Enable command extensions (see below)
/E:OFF Disable command extensions (see below)
/F:ON Enable file and directory name completion characters (see below)
/F:OFF Disable file and directory name completion characters (see below)
/V:ON Enable delayed environment variable expansion using ! as the
        delimiter. For example, /V:ON would allow !var! to expand the
        variable var at execution time. The var syntax expands variables
        at input time, which is quite a different thing when inside of a FOR
        loop.
/V:OFF  Disable delayed environment expansion.

Early exit from function?

Using a return will stop the function and return undefined, or the value that you specify with the return command.

function myfunction(){
    if(a=="stop"){
        //return undefined;
        return; /** Or return "Hello" or any other value */
    }
}

hibernate could not get next sequence value

You need to set your @GeneratedId column with strategy GenerationType.IDENTITY instead of GenerationType.AUTO

@Id
@GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)
@Column(name = "JUD_ID")
private Long _judId;

How to add reference to a method parameter in javadoc?

The correct way of referring to a method parameter is like this:

enter image description here

how to get data from selected row from datagridview

To get the cell value, you need to read it directly from DataGridView1 using e.RowIndex and e.ColumnIndex properties.

Eg:

Private Sub DataGridView1_CellContentClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellContentClick
   Dim value As Object = DataGridView1.Rows(e.RowIndex).Cells(e.ColumnIndex).Value

   If IsDBNull(value) Then
      TextBox1.Text = "" ' blank if dbnull values
   Else
      TextBox1.Text = CType(value, String)
   End If
End Sub

Find files and tar them (with spaces)

Big warning on several of the solutions (and your own test) :

When you do : anything | xargs something

xargs will try to fit "as many arguments as possible" after "something", but then you may end up with multiple invocations of "something".

So your attempt: find ... | xargs tar czvf file.tgz may end up overwriting "file.tgz" at each invocation of "tar" by xargs, and you end up with only the last invocation! (the chosen solution uses a GNU -T special parameter to avoid the problem, but not everyone has that GNU tar available)

You could do instead:

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 tar -rvf backup.tar
gzip backup.tar

Proof of the problem on cygwin:

$ mkdir test
$ cd test
$ seq 1 10000 | sed -e "s/^/long_filename_/" | xargs touch
    # create the files
$ seq 1 10000 | sed -e "s/^/long_filename_/" | xargs tar czvf archive.tgz
    # will invoke tar several time as it can'f fit 10000 long filenames into 1
$ tar tzvf archive.tgz | wc -l
60
    # in my own machine, I end up with only the 60 last filenames,
    # as the last invocation of tar by xargs overwrote the previous one(s)

# proper way to invoke tar: with -r (which append to an existing tar file, whereas c would overwrite it)
# caveat: you can't have it compressed (you can't add to a compressed archive)
$ seq 1 10000 | sed -e "s/^/long_filename_/" | xargs tar rvf archive.tar #-r, and without z
$ gzip archive.tar
$ tar tzvf archive.tar.gz | wc -l
10000
  # we have all our files, despite xargs making several invocations of the tar command

Note: that behavior of xargs is a well know diccifulty, and it is also why, when someone wants to do :

find .... | xargs grep "regex"

they intead have to write it:

find ..... | xargs grep "regex" /dev/null

That way, even if the last invocation of grep by xargs appends only 1 filename, grep sees at least 2 filenames (as each time it has: /dev/null, where it won't find anything, and the filename(s) appended by xargs after it) and thus will always display the file names when something maches "regex". Otherwise you may end up with the last results showing matches without a filename in front.

How can I quickly delete a line in VIM starting at the cursor position?

(Edited to include commenter's good additions:)

D or its equivalent d$ will delete the rest of the line and leave you in command mode. C or c$ will delete the rest of the line and put you in insert mode, and new text will be appended to the line.

This is part of vitutor and vimtutor, excellent "reads" for vim beginners.

The most sophisticated way for creating comma-separated Strings from a Collection/Array/List?

I'm not sure how "sophisticated" this is, but it's certainly a bit shorter. It will work with various different types of collection e.g. Set<Integer>, List<String>, etc.

public static final String toSqlList(Collection<?> values) {

    String collectionString = values.toString();

    // Convert the square brackets produced by Collection.toString() to round brackets used by SQL
    return "(" + collectionString.substring(1, collectionString.length() - 1) + ")";
}

Exercise for reader: modify this method so that it correctly handles a null/empty collection :)

iOS for VirtualBox

Additional to the above - the QEMU website has good documentation about setting up an ARM based emulator: http://qemu.weilnetz.de/qemu-doc.html#ARM-System-emulator

NSArray + remove item from array

NSArray is not mutable, that is, you cannot modify it. You should take a look at NSMutableArray. Check out the "Removing Objects" section, you'll find there many functions that allow you to remove items:

[anArray removeObjectAtIndex: index];
[anArray removeObject: item];
[anArray removeLastObject];

How can I put CSS and HTML code in the same file?

Is this what you're looking for? You place you CSS between style tags in the HTML document header. I'm guessing for iPhone it's webkit so it should work.

<html>
<head>
    <style type="text/css">
    .title { color: blue; text-decoration: bold; text-size: 1em; }
    .author { color: gray; }
    </style>
</head>
<body>
    <p>
    <span class="title">La super bonne</span>
    <span class="author">proposée par Jérém</span>
    </p>
</body>
</html>

How do I disable orientation change on Android?

You can simply use like below in the application class if you want only PORTRAIT mode for all activities in your app.

class YourApplicationName : Application() {

override fun onCreate() {
    super.onCreate()

    registerActivityLifecycleCallbacks(object : ActivityLifecycleCallbacks {

        override fun onActivityCreated(activity: Activity, savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
            activity.requestedOrientation = ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT
        }

        override fun onActivityStarted(activity: Activity) {

        }

        override fun onActivityResumed(activity: Activity) {

        }

        override fun onActivityPaused(activity: Activity) {

        }

        override fun onActivityStopped(activity: Activity) {

        }

        override fun onActivitySaveInstanceState(activity: Activity, outState: Bundle) {

        }

        override fun onActivityDestroyed(activity: Activity) {

        }

    })

}

}
