The way to enable to switch from you regular to the root user (AKA “super user”) after authentificating with your Google Computer Engine (GCE) User in the local environment (your Linux server in GCE) is pretty straight forward, in fact it just involves just one command to enable it and another every time to use it:

$ sudo passwd
Enter the new UNIX password: <your new root password>
Retype the new UNIX password: <your new root password>
passwd: password updated successfully

After executing the previous command and once logged with your GCE User you will be able to switch to root anytime by just entering the following command:

$ su
Password: <your newly created root password>
root@intance:/#

As we say in economics “caveat emptor” or buyer be aware: Using the root user is far from a best practice in system’s administration. Using it can be the cause a lot of trouble, from wiping everything in your drives and boot disks without a hiccup to many other nasty stuff that would be laborious to backtrack, troubleshoot and rebuilt. On the other hand, I have never met a SysAdmin that doesn’t think he knows better and root more than he should.

REMEMBER: We humans are programmed in such a way that given enough time at one at some point or another are going to press enter without taking into account that we have escalated to root and I can assure you that it will great source of pain, regret and extra work. PLEASE USE ROOT PRIVILEGES SPARSELY AND WITH EXTREME CARE.

Just because your Android device is in Developer Mode, doesn't mean it has USB debugging enabled!! Go into Settings > Developer options then enable "USB debugging" and then you should see your device. It's a common mistake that's easily overlooked.

Andrew Grant's answer does not help getting a stack trace of the throwing function, at least not with GCC, because a throw statement does not save the current stack trace on its own, and the catch handler won't have access to the stack trace at that point any more.

The only way - using GCC - to solve this is to make sure to generate a stack trace at the point of the throw instruction, and save that with the exception object.

This method requires, of course, that every code that throws an exception uses that particular Exception class.

Update 11 July 2017: For some helpful code, take a look at cahit beyaz's answer, which points to http://stacktrace.sourceforge.net - I haven't used it yet but it looks promising.

This will initialize a 2D vector of rows=row and columns = col with all initial values as 0. No need to initialize and use resize.

Since the vector is initialized with size, you can use "[]" operator as in array to modify the vector.

So, in other words, your middle part of the regex is screwing you up. As it is a "catch-all" kind of group, it will allow any line that does not begin with any of the upper or lower case letters in "Bush". For example, these lines would match your regex:

You either make a negative look-ahead, as suggested earlier, or you simply make two regexes:

Unless you really must implement your own solution, you can use std::minmax_element. This returns a pair of iterators, one to the smallest element and one to the largest.

Using TortoiseGIT: If you have a GIT commit where some file move operations are showing up as load of adds/deletes rather than renames, even though the files only have small changes, then do this:

1. Check in what you have done locally
2. Check in a mini one-line change in a 2nd commit
3. Go to GIT log in tortoise git
4. Select the two commits, right click, and select “merge into one commit”

The new commit will now properly show the file renames… which will help maintain proper file history.

I have copied your code and run it in my local machine its working fine there is no issues.

According to me your browser is not refreshing the file so you can refresh/reload the entire page by pressing CTRL + F5 in windows for mac CMD + R.

Try it if still getting problem then you can test it by using firebug tool for firefox.

For IE8 and Google Chrome you can check it by pressing F12 your developer tool will pop-up and you can see the Html and css.

PsFile does work on remote machines. If my login account already has access to the remote share, I can just enter:

psfile \\remote-share

(replace "remote-share" with the name of your file server) and it will list every opened document on that share, along with who has it open, and the file ID if I want to force the file closed. For me, this is a really long list, but it can be narrowed down by entering part of a path:

psfile \\remote-share I:\\Human_Resources

This is kind of tricky, since in my case this remote share is mounted as Z: on my local machine, but psfile identifies paths as they are defined on the remote file server, which in my case is I: (yours will be different). I just had to comb through the results of my first psfile run to see some of the paths it returned and then run it again with a partial path to narrow down the results.

Optionally, PsFile will let you specify credentials for the remote share if you need to supply them for access.

Lastly, a little known tip: if someone clicks on a file in Windows Explorer and cuts or copies the file with the intent to paste it somewhere else, that act also places a lock on the file.

Before going into Bucketing, we need to understand what Partitioning is. Let us take the below table as an example. Note that I have given only 12 records in the below example for beginner level understanding. In real-time scenarios you might have millions of records.

PARTITIONING

Partitioning is used to obtain performance while querying the data. For example, in the above table, if we write the below sql, it need to scan all the records in the table which reduces the performance and increases the overhead.

To avoid full table scan and to read only the records related to product_id='P1' we can partition (split hive table's files) into multiple files based on the product_id column. By this the hive table's file will be split into two files one with product_id='P1' and other with product_id='P2'. Now when we execute the above query, it will scan only the product_id='P1' file.

Cons : We should be very careful while partitioning. That is, it should not be used for the columns where number of repeating values are very less (especially primary key columns) as it increases the number of partitioned files and increases the overhead for the Name node.

BUCKETING
------------------
Bucketing is used to overcome the cons that I mentioned in the partitioning section. This should be used when there are very few repeating values in a column (example - primary key column). This is similar to the concept of index on primary key column in the RDBMS. In our table, we can take Sales_Id column for bucketing. It will be useful when we need to query the sales_id column.

Below is the syntax for bucketing.

create table sales_table(sales_id int,trans_date date, amount int) 
partitioned by (product_id varchar(10)) Clustered by(Sales_Id) into 3 buckets

Here we will further split the data into few more files on top of partitions.

Since we have specified 3 buckets, it is split into 3 files each for each product_id. It internally uses modulo operator to determine in which bucket each sales_id should be stored. For example, for the product_id='P1', the sales_id=1 will be stored in 000001_0 file (ie, 1%3=1), sales_id=2 will be stored in 000002_0 file (ie, 2%3=2),sales_id=3 will be stored in 000000_0 file (ie, 3%3=0) etc.

To accomodate all three points:

• button
• save the image as a png file
• open up the save, open, close dialog box

The file dialog is a setting in the browser.

For the button/save part assign the following function, boiled down from other answers, to your buttons onclick:

• Set the form's property "Localizable" to true
• Change the form's Language property to the language you want (from a nice drop-down with them all in)
• Translate the controls in that form and move them about if need be (squash those really long full French sentences in!)

What are -moz- and -webkit-?

CSS properties starting with -webkit-, -moz-, -ms- or -o- are called vendor prefixes.

Why do different browsers add different prefixes for the same effect?

A good explanation of vendor prefixes comes from Peter-Paul Koch of QuirksMode:

Originally, the point of vendor prefixes was to allow browser makers to start supporting experimental CSS declarations.

Let's say a W3C working group is discussing a grid declaration (which, incidentally, wouldn't be such a bad idea). Let's furthermore say that some people create a draft specification, but others disagree with some of the details. As we know, this process may take ages.

Let's furthermore say that Microsoft as an experiment decides to implement the proposed grid. At this point in time, Microsoft cannot be certain that the specification will not change. Therefore, instead of adding the grid to its CSS, it adds -ms-grid.

The vendor prefix kind of says "this is the Microsoft interpretation of an ongoing proposal." Thus, if the final definition of the grid is different, Microsoft can add a new CSS property grid without breaking pages that depend on -ms-grid.

UPDATE AS OF THE YEAR 2016

As this post 3 years old, it's important to mention that now most vendors do understand that these prefixes are just creating un-necessary duplicate code and that the situation where you need to specify 3 different CSS rules to get one effect working in all browser is an unwanted one.

As mentioned in this glossary about Mozilla's view on Vendor Prefix on May 3, 2016,

Browser vendors are now trying to get rid of vendor prefix for experimental features. They noticed that Web developers were using them on production Web sites, polluting the global space and making it more difficult for underdogs to perform well.

For example, just a few years ago, to set a rounded corner on a box you had to write:

Finding the right rules for all browsers

As still there's no standard for common CSS rules that work on all browsers, you can use tools like caniuse.com to check support of a rule across all major browsers.

You can also use pleeease.io/play. Pleeease is a Node.js application that easily processes your CSS. It simplifies the use of preprocessors and combines them with best postprocessors. It helps create clean stylesheets, support older browsers and offers better maintainability.

Double quotes (") are for strings, which are sequences of characters. Single quotes (') are for individual characters.

However, the end-of-line is represented by the newline character, which is '\n'.

Note that in both cases, the backslash is not part of the character, but just a way you represent special characters. Using backslashes you can represent various unprintable characters and also characters which would otherwise confuse the compiler.

Have you tried calling knockout's clean node method on your DOM element to dispose of the in memory bound objects?

What the error is telling, is that you can't convert an entire list into an integer. You could get an index from the list and convert that into an integer:

If you're trying to convert a whole list into an integer, you are going to have to convert the list into a string first:

If any old version, that you actively use, will be removed. It can easily be restored with maven (or other tools that manage dependencies).

You can get a log of what is going to be removed without actually removing it by setting dry_run = False. The output will go like this:

This means, that versions 1.16.20 and 1.18.2 of lombok will be removed and 1.18.6 will be left untouched.

There has been some considerable confusion over space reclamation in MongoDB, and some recommended practice are downright dangerous to do in certain deployment types. More details below:

TL;DR repairDatabase attempts to salvage data from a standalone MongoDB deployments that is trying to recover from a disk corruption. If it recovers space, it is purely a side effect. Recovering space should never be the primary consideration of running repairDatabase.

Recover space in a standalone node

WiredTiger: For a standalone node with WiredTiger, running compact will release space to the OS, with one caveat: The compact command on WiredTiger on MongoDB 3.0.x was affected by this bug: SERVER-21833 which was fixed in MongoDB 3.2.3. Prior to this version, compact on WiredTiger could silently fail.

MMAPv1: Due to the way MMAPv1 works, there is no safe and supported method to recover space using the MMAPv1 storage engine. compact in MMAPv1 will defragment the data files, potentially making more space available for new documents, but it will not release space back to the OS.

You may be able to run repairDatabase if you fully understand the consequences of this potentially dangerous command (see below), since repairDatabase essentially rewrites the whole database by discarding corrupt documents. As a side effect, this will create new MMAPv1 data files without any fragmentation on it and release space back to the OS.

For a less adventurous method, running mongodump and mongorestore may be possible as well in an MMAPv1 deployment, subject to the size of your deployment.

Recover space in a replica set

For replica set configurations, the best and the safest method to recover space is to perform an initial sync, for both WiredTiger and MMAPv1.

If you need to recover space from all nodes in the set, you can perform a rolling initial sync. That is, perform initial sync on each of the secondaries, before finally stepping down the primary and perform initial sync on it. Rolling initial sync method is the safest method to perform replica set maintenance, and it also involves no downtime as a bonus.

Please note that the feasibility of doing a rolling initial sync also depends on the size of your deployment. For extremely large deployments, it may not be feasible to do an initial sync, and thus your options are somewhat more limited. If WiredTiger is used, you may be able to take one secondary out of the set, start it as a standalone, run compact on it, and rejoin it to the set.

Regarding repairDatabase

Please don't run repairDatabase on replica set nodes. This is very dangerous, as mentioned in the repairDatabase page and described in more details below.

The name repairDatabase is a bit misleading, since the command doesn't attempt to repair anything. The command was intended to be used when there's disk corruption on a standalone node, which could lead to corrupt documents.

The repairDatabase command could be more accurately described as "salvage database". That is, it recreates the databases by discarding corrupt documents in an attempt to get the database into a state where you can start it and salvage intact document from it.

In MMAPv1 deployments, this rebuilding of the database files releases space to the OS as a side effect. Releasing space to the OS was never the purpose.

Consequences of repairDatabase on a replica set

In a replica set, MongoDB expects all nodes in the set to contain identical data. If you run repairDatabase on a replica set node, there is a chance that the node contains undetected corruption, and repairDatabase will dutifully remove the corrupt documents for you.

Predictably, this makes that node contains a different dataset from the rest of the set. If an update happens to hit that single document, the whole set could crash.

To make matters worse, it is entirely possible that this situation could stay dormant for a long time, only to strike suddenly with no apparent reason.

As said a previous answer, you can run the command

jest -t 'fix-order-test'

If you have an it inside of a describe block, you have to run

jest -t '<describeString> <itString>'

HTML5 has provided new attribute multiple for input element whose type attribute is file. So you can select multiple files and IE9 and previous versions does not support this.

NOTE: be carefull with the name of the input element. when you want to upload multiple file you should use array and not string as the value of the name attribute.

ex:

and if you are using php then you will get the data in $_FILES and use var_dump($_FILES) and see output and do processing Now you can iterate over and do the rest

Simple-read but precise solution would be:

I had the same issue with testing activity in my Android app. I used ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 and MockitoAnnotations.initMocks(this); didn't work. I solved this issue with another class with respectively field. For example:

Note that an ErrorDocument 404 directive can sometimes override these things as well, so if it's not working try commenting out your ErrorDocument directive and see if it works. The above example can be used to ensure a site isn't served from cache by including a subfolder in the path, though the files reside at the root of the server.

I have been having similar issues, and have been looking into the possibility that browsers have limits on how often getCurrentPosition can be called. It seems I can often get a location, but if i refresh the page right away it will time out. If I wait for a bit, I can usually get a location again. This usually happens with FF. In Chrome and Safari, I have not yet noticed getCurrentPosition timing out. Just a thought...

Although I cannot find any documentation to support this, it was a conclusion I came to after much testing. Perhaps someone else has has some info about that?

In IE7/IE8 when Microsoft added Tabs to their browser they broke one thing that will cause havoc with your JS if you are not careful.

Imagine this page layout:

Now in frame "baz" you click a link (no target, loads in the "baz" frame) it works fine.

If the page that gets loaded, lets call it special.html, uses JS to check if "it" has a parent frame named "bar" it will return true (expected).

Now lets say that the special.html page when it loads, checks the parent frame (for existence and its name, and if it is "bar" it reloads itself in the bar frame. e.g.

So far so good. Now comes the bug.

Lets say instead of clicking on the original link like normal, and loading the special.html page in the "baz" frame, you middle-clicked it or chose to open it in a new Tab.

When that new tab loads (with no parent frames at all!) IE will enter an endless loop of page loading! because IE "copies over" the frame structure in JavaScript such that the new tab DOES have a parent, and that parent HAS the name "bar".

The good news, is that checking:

Amiram's answer is correct, but Distinct() as implemented is an N² operation; for each item in the list, the algorithm compares it to all the already processed elements, and returns it if it's unique or ignores it if not. We can do better.

A sorted list can be deduped in linear time; if the current element equals the previous element, ignore it, otherwise return it. Sorting is NlogN, so even having to sort the collection, we get some benefit:

I got this error when trying to create a new Eclipse project inside a newly cloned Git repo folder.

This worked for me:

1) clone the Git repo (in my case it was to a subfolder of the Eclipse default workspace)

2) create the new Eclipse project in the default workspace (one level above the cloned Git repo folder)

3) export the new Eclipse project from the default workspace to the cloned repo directory:

a) right click on project --> Export --> General --> File System
b) select the new Eclipse project
c) set the destination directory to export to (as the Git repo folder)

4) remove the Eclipse project form the workspace (because it's still the one that uses the default workspace)

right click on project and select "Delete"

5) open the exported Eclipse project from inside the Git repo directory

a) File --> Open Project from File System or Archive
b) set the "Import source" folder as the Git repo folder
c) check the project to import (that you just exported there)

The symbol you posted is the placeholder symbol for a broken byte sequence. Basically, it's not a real symbol but an error in your string.

What is the exact byte value of the symbol? Blindly applying utf8_encode is not a good idea, it's better to find out first where the byte(s) came from and what they mean.

I liked the simplest answer provided. However, I didn't like the choppiness of the collapsing. So I combined a solution from this question: How to Use slideDown (or show) function on a table row? to make it a smoother animation when the rows slide up or down. It involves having to wrap the content of each td in a div. This allows it to smoothly animate the collapsing. When the rows are expanded, it will replace the div, with just the content.

If you want buffers to work like tabs, check out the tabline plugin.

That uses a single window, and adds a line on the top to simulate the tabs (just showing the list of buffers). This came out a long time ago when tabs were only supported in GVim but not in the command line vim. Since it is only operating with buffers, everything integrates well with the rest of vim.

You are running the Command Prompt as an admin. You have only defined PYTHON for your user. You need to define it in the bottom "System variables" section.

Also, you should only point the variable to the folder, not directly to the executable.

MySQL Workbench can export recordsets to CSV, and it seems to handle commas in fields very well. The CSV opens up in OpenOffice fine.

If you use Spring-jpa, this is a supplement to the answers and this question. Please correct this if any flaws. I have mainly used three methods to achieve "mapping result Object[] to a pojo" based on what practical need I meet:

1. JPA built in method is enough.

The first two methods would call many in-the-middle handlers, like customized converters. For example, AntiStealing defines a secretKey, before it is persisted, a converter is inserted to encrypt it. This would result in the first 2 methods returning a converted back secretKey which is not what I want. While the method 3 would overcome the converter, and returned secretKey would be the same as it is stored (an encrypted one).

More information needed for a definitive answer, but this code

I recommend you write your real service work in a separate static method (why not, in a console application...just add reference to it), to simplify debugging and clean service code.

It is possible to find the number of columns in a table just by using 3 simple lines of PHP code.

Also WebClient doesn't have timeout property. And that's the problem, because dafault value is 100 seconds and that's too much to indicate if there's no Internet connection.

The Media Source Extensions has been proposed which would allow for Adaptive Bitrate Streaming implementations.

Also the following command works:

Where the select statement can be replaced with any other select statement, which is quite useful for complex inserts with select for example.

Assuming we're talking about internal integer types, there's no possible way one could be faster than the other. They're obviously semantically identical. They both ask the compiler to do precisely the same thing. Only a horribly broken compiler would generate inferior code for one of these.

If there was some platform where < was faster than <= for simple integer types, the compiler should always convert <= to < for constants. Any compiler that didn't would just be a bad compiler (for that platform).

You basically have two options, either define it as a service, or place it on your root scope. I would suggest that you make a service out of it to avoid polluting the root scope. You create a service and make it available in your controller like this:

Cookie-Based Authentication

Cookies based Authentication works normally in these 4 steps-

1. The user provides a username and password in the login form and clicks Log In.
2. After the request is made, the server validate the user on the backend by querying in the database. If the request is valid, it will create a session by using the user information fetched from the database and store them, for each session a unique id called session Id is created ,by default session Id is will be given to client through the Browser.

3. Browser will submit this session Id on each subsequent requests, the session ID is verified against the database, based on this session id website will identify the session belonging to which client and then give access the request.

4. Once a user logs out of the app, the session is destroyed both client-side and server-side.

The Host Header tells the webserver which virtual host to use (if set up). You can even have the same virtual host using several aliases (= domains and wildcard-domains). In this case, you still have the possibility to read that header manually in your web app if you want to provide different behavior based on different domains addressed. This is possible because in your webserver you can (and if I'm not mistaken you must) set up one vhost to be the default host. This default vhost is used whenever the host header does not match any of the configured virtual hosts.

That means: You get it right, although saying "multiple hosts" may be somewhat misleading: The host (the addressed machine) is the same, what really gets resolved to the IP address are different domain names (including subdomains) that are also referred to as hostnames (but not hosts!).

Although not part of the question, a fun fact: This specification led to problems with SSL in early days because the web server has to deliver the certificate that corresponds to the domain the client has addressed. However, in order to know what certificate to use, the webserver should have known the addressed hostname in advance. But because the client sends that information only over the encrypted channel (which means: after the certificate has already been sent), the server had to assume you browsed the default host. That meant one ssl-secured domain per IP address / port-combination.

This has been overcome with Server Name Indication; however, that again breaks some privacy, as the server name is now transferred in plain text again, so every man-in-the-middle would see which hostname you are trying to connect to.

Although the webserver would know the hostname from Server Name Indication, the Host header is not obsolete, because the Server Name Indication information is only used within the TLS handshake. With an unsecured connection, there is no Server Name Indication at all, so the Host header is still valid (and necessary).

Another fun fact: Most webservers (if not all) reject your HTTP request if it does not contain exactly one Host header, even if it could be omitted because there is only the default vhost configured. That means the minimum required information in an http-(get-)request is the first line containing METHOD RESOURCE and PROTOCOL VERSION and at least the Host header, like this:

In the MDN Documentation on the "Host" header they actually phrase it like this:

A Host header field must be sent in all HTTP/1.1 request messages. A 400 (Bad Request) status code will be sent to any HTTP/1.1 request message that lacks a Host header field or contains more than one.

We can prove it mathematically which is something I was missing in the above answers.

It can dramatically help you understand how to calculate any method. I recommend reading it from top to bottom to fully understand how to do it:

1. T(n) = T(n-1) + 1 It means that the time it takes for the method to finish is equal to the same method but with n-1 which is T(n-1) and we now add + 1 because it's the time it takes for the general operations to be completed (except T(n-1)). Now, we are going to find T(n-1) as follow: T(n-1) = T(n-1-1) + 1. It looks like we can now form a function that can give us some sort of repetition so we can fully understand. We will place the right side of T(n-1) = ... instead of T(n-1) inside the method T(n) = ... which will give us: T(n) = T(n-1-1) + 1 + 1 which is T(n) = T(n-2) + 2 or in other words we need to find our missing k: T(n) = T(n-k) + k. The next step is to take n-k and claim that n-k = 1 because at the end of the recursion it will take exactly O(1) when n<=0. From this simple equation we now know that k = n - 1. Let's place k in our final method: T(n) = T(n-k) + k which will give us: T(n) = 1 + n - 1 which is exactly n or O(n).
2. Is the same as 1. You can test it your self and see that you get O(n).
3. T(n) = T(n/5) + 1 as before, the time for this method to finish equals to the time the same method but with n/5 which is why it is bounded to T(n/5). Let's find T(n/5) like in 1: T(n/5) = T(n/5/5) + 1 which is T(n/5) = T(n/5^2) + 1. Let's place T(n/5) inside T(n) for the final calculation: T(n) = T(n/5^k) + k. Again as before, n/5^k = 1 which is n = 5^k which is exactly as asking what in power of 5, will give us n, the answer is log5n = k (log of base 5). Let's place our findings in T(n) = T(n/5^k) + k as follow: T(n) = 1 + logn which is O(logn)
4. T(n) = 2T(n-1) + 1 what we have here is basically the same as before but this time we are invoking the method recursively 2 times thus we multiple it by 2. Let's find T(n-1) = 2T(n-1-1) + 1 which is T(n-1) = 2T(n-2) + 1. Our next place as before, let's place our finding: T(n) = 2(2T(n-2)) + 1 + 1 which is T(n) = 2^2T(n-2) + 2 that gives us T(n) = 2^kT(n-k) + k. Let's find k by claiming that n-k = 1 which is k = n - 1. Let's place k as follow: T(n) = 2^(n-1) + n - 1 which is roughly O(2^n)
5. T(n) = T(n-5) + n + 1 It's almost the same as 4 but now we add n because we have one for loop. Let's find T(n-5) = T(n-5-5) + n + 1 which is T(n-5) = T(n - 2*5) + n + 1. Let's place it: T(n) = T(n-2*5) + n + n + 1 + 1) which is T(n) = T(n-2*5) + 2n + 2) and for the k: T(n) = T(n-k*5) + kn + k) again: n-5k = 1 which is n = 5k + 1 that is roughly n = k. This will give us: T(n) = T(0) + n^2 + n which is roughly O(n^2).

You should be able to use the WildcardFileFilter. Just use System.getProperty("user.dir") to get the working directory. Try this:

This is the solution I used to solve this issue on a project where I was sending the file as attachment in a mail. It will easily avoid the twice fired event even with a smaller timer interval but in my case 1000 was alright since I was happier with missing few changes than with flooding the mailbox with > 1 message per second. At least it works just fine in case several files are changed at the exact same time.

Another solution I've thought of would be to replace the list with a dictionary mapping files to their respective MD5, so you wouldn't have to choose an arbitrary interval since you wouldn't have to delete the entry but update its value, and cancel your stuff if it hasn't changed. It has the downside of having a Dictionary growing in memory as files are monitored and eating more and more memory, but I've read somewhere that the amount of files monitored depends on the FSW's internal buffer, so maybe not that critical. Dunno how MD5 computing time would affect your code's performances either, careful =\

You have a List<string> - so if you want them concatenated, something like

There are a lot of half-truths here, so I thought I make some things clearer.

Actually you can't accurately tell if a variable exists (unless you want to wrap every second line into a try-catch block).

The reason is Javascript has this notorious value of undefined which strikingly doesn't mean that the variable is not defined, or that it doesn't exist undefined !== not defined

So both a variable that exists and another one that doesn't can report you the undefined type.

As for @Kevin's misconception, null == undefined. It is due to type coercion, and it's the main reason why Crockford keeps telling everyone who is unsure of this kind of thing to always use strict equality operator === to test for possibly falsy values. null !== undefined gives you what you might expect. Please also note, that foo != null can be an effective way to check if a variable is neither undefined nor null. Of course you can be explicit, because it may help readability.

If you restrict the question to check if an object exists, typeof o == "object" may be a good idea, except if you don't consider arrays objects, as this will also reported to be the type of object which may leave you a bit confused. The primal area where you really should be careful about typeof, undefined, null, unknown and other misteries are host objects. They can't be trusted. You can register your own handlers with a whatever.axd name in your application's web.config. Unless you have very, very well-behaved data, this is a non-trivial challenge. A naive approach would be to tokenize on whitespace and assume that a three-token result is [first, middle, last] and a two-token result is [first, last], but you're going to have to deal with multi-word surnames (e.g. "Van Buren") and multiple middle names.

is calling the sort function to mutate the list a. In my understanding, this is a modification command. To see the result you have to use print(a).

Using a proxy tool like Charles Proxy really helps make short work of something like what you are asking. Here is what I do, using this SO page as an example (as of July 2015 using Charles version 3.10):

step 6 : save and execute the code

there are four types of strings available in php. They are single quotes ('), double quotes (") and Nowdoc (<<<'EOD') and heredoc(<<<EOD) strings

you can use both single quotes and double quotes inside heredoc string. Variables will be expanded just as double quotes.

nowdoc strings will not expand variables just like single quotes.

The first and foremost condition that needs to be met is that both the parent and iframe should belong to the same origin. Once that is done the child can invoke the parent using window.opener method and the parent can do the same for the child as mentioned above
