Accessing private member variables from prototype-defined functions
There is a very simple way to do this
function SharedPrivate(){
var private = "secret";
this.constructor.prototype.getP = function(){return private}
this.constructor.prototype.setP = function(v){ private = v;}
}
var o1 = new SharedPrivate();
var o2 = new SharedPrivate();
console.log(o1.getP()); // secret
console.log(o2.getP()); // secret
o1.setP("Pentax Full Frame K1 is on sale..!");
console.log(o1.getP()); // Pentax Full Frame K1 is on sale..!
console.log(o2.getP()); // Pentax Full Frame K1 is on sale..!
o2.setP("And it's only for $1,795._");
console.log(o1.getP()); // And it's only for $1,795._
JavaScript prototypes are golden.
Oracle sqlldr TRAILING NULLCOLS required, but why?
I had similar issue when I had plenty of extra records in csv file with empty values. If I open csv file in notepad then empty lines looks like this:
,,,,
,,,,
,,,,
,,,,
You can not see those if open in Excel. Please check in Notepad and delete those records
How do I create a transparent Activity on Android?
For dialog activity I use this:
getWindow().getDecorView().setBackgroundResource(android.R.color.transparent);
But you also need to set your main View in the activity to invisible. Otherwise the background will be invisible while all views in it will be visible.
Is it possible to capture a Ctrl+C signal and run a cleanup function, in a "defer" fashion?
Just for the record if somebody needs a way to handle signals on Windows. I had a requirement to handle from prog A calling prog B through os/exec but prog B never was able to terminate gracefully because sending signals through ex. cmd.Process.Signal(syscall.SIGTERM) or other signals are not supported on Windows. The way I handled is by creating a temp file as a signal ex. .signal.term through prog A and prog B needs to check if that file exists on interval base, if file exists it will exit the program and handle a cleanup if needed, I'm sure there are other ways but this did the job.

How to build and use Google TensorFlow C++ api
First, after installing protobuf
and eigen
, you'd like to build Tensorflow:
./configure
bazel build //tensorflow:libtensorflow_cc.so
Then Copy the following include headers and dynamic shared library to /usr/local/lib
and /usr/local/include
:
mkdir /usr/local/include/tf
cp -r bazel-genfiles/ /usr/local/include/tf/
cp -r tensorflow /usr/local/include/tf/
cp -r third_party /usr/local/include/tf/
cp -r bazel-bin/libtensorflow_cc.so /usr/local/lib/
Lastly, compile using an example:
g++ -std=c++11 -o tf_example \
-I/usr/local/include/tf \
-I/usr/local/include/eigen3 \
-g -Wall -D_DEBUG -Wshadow -Wno-sign-compare -w \
-L/usr/local/lib/libtensorflow_cc \
`pkg-config --cflags --libs protobuf` -ltensorflow_cc tf_example.cpp
Detect a finger swipe through JavaScript on the iPhone and Android
You might have an easier time first implementing it with mouse events to prototype.
There are many answers here, including the top, should be used with caution as they do not consider edge cases especially around bounding boxes.
See:
You will need to experiment to catch edge cases and behaviours such as the pointer moving outside of the element before ending.
A swipe is a very basic gesture which is a higher level of interface pointer interaction processing roughly sitting between processing raw events and handwriting recognition.
There's no single exact method for detecting a swipe or a fling though virtually all generally follow a basic principle of detecting a motion across an element with a threshold of distance and speed or velocity. You might simply say that if there is a movement across 65% of the screen size in a given direction within a given time then it is a swipe. Exactly where you draw the line and how you calculate it is up to you.
Some might also look at it from the perspective of momentum in a direction and how far off the screen it has been pushed when the element is released. This is clearer with sticky swipes where the element can be dragged and then on release will either bounce back or fly off the screen as if the elastic broke.
It's probably ideal to try to find a gesture library that you can either port or reuse that's commonly used for consistency. Many of the examples here are excessively simplistic, registering a swipe as the slightest touch in any direction.
Android would be the obvious choice though has the opposite problem, it's overly complex.
Many people appear to have misinterpreted the question as any movement in a direction. A swipe is a broad and relatively brief motion overwhelmingly in a single direction (though may be arced and have certain acceleration properties). A fling is similar though intends to casually propel an item away a fair distance under its own momentum.
The two are sufficiently similar that some libraries might only provide fling or swipe, which can be used interchangeably. On a flat screen it's difficult to truly separate the two gestures and generally speaking people are doing both (swiping the physical screen but flinging the UI element displayed on the screen).
You best option is to not do it yourself. There are already a large number of JavaScript libraries for detecting simple gestures.
How to print number with commas as thousands separators?
from Python version 2.6 you can do this:
def format_builtin(n):
return format(n, ',')
For Python versions < 2.6 and just for your information, here are 2 manual solutions, they turn floats to ints but negative numbers work correctly:
def format_number_using_lists(number):
string = '%d' % number
result_list = list(string)
indexes = range(len(string))
for index in indexes[::-3][1:]:
if result_list[index] != '-':
result_list.insert(index+1, ',')
return ''.join(result_list)
few things to notice here:
- this line: string = '%d' % number beautifully converts a number to a string, it supports negatives and it drops fractions from floats, making them ints;
- this slice indexes[::-3] returns each third item starting from
the end, so I used another slice [1:] to remove the very last item
cuz I don't need a comma after the last number;
- this conditional if l[index] != '-' is being used to support negative numbers, do not insert a comma after the minus sign.
And a more hardcore version:
def format_number_using_generators_and_list_comprehensions(number):
string = '%d' % number
generator = reversed(
[
value+',' if (index!=0 and value!='-' and index%3==0) else value
for index,value in enumerate(reversed(string))
]
)
return ''.join(generator)
Retrieving parameters from a URL
Python 2:
import urlparse
url = 'http://foo.appspot.com/abc?def=ghi'
parsed = urlparse.urlparse(url)
print urlparse.parse_qs(parsed.query)['def']
Python 3:
import urllib.parse as urlparse
from urllib.parse import parse_qs
url = 'http://foo.appspot.com/abc?def=ghi'
parsed = urlparse.urlparse(url)
print(parse_qs(parsed.query)['def'])
parse_qs
returns a list of values, so the above code will print ['ghi']
.
Here's the Python 3 documentation.
MSSQL Error 'The underlying provider failed on Open'
This is common issue only. Even I have faced this issue. On the development machine, configured with Windows authentication, it is worked perfectly:
<add name="ShoppingCartAdminEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.csdl|res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.ssdl|res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=.\SQlExpress;initial catalog=ShoppingCartAdmin;Integrated Security=True;multipleactiveresultsets=True;application name=EntityFramework"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
Once hosted in IIS with the same configuration, I got this error:
The underlying provider failed on Open
It was solved changing connectionString
in the configuration file:
<add name="MyEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.csdl|res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.ssdl|res://*/ShoppingCartAPIModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=MACHINE_Name\SQlExpress;initial catalog=ShoppingCartAdmin;persist security info=True;user id=sa;password=notmyrealpassword;multipleactiveresultsets=True;application name=EntityFramework"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
Other common mistakes could be:
- Database service could be stopped
- Data Source attributes pointing to a local database with Windows authentication and hosted in IIS
- Username and password could be wrong.
angular 2 sort and filter
This is my sort. It will do number sort , string sort and date sort .
import { Pipe , PipeTransform } from "@angular/core";
@Pipe({
name: 'sortPipe'
})
export class SortPipe implements PipeTransform {
transform(array: Array<string>, key: string): Array<string> {
console.log("Entered in pipe******* "+ key);
if(key === undefined || key == '' ){
return array;
}
var arr = key.split("-");
var keyString = arr[0]; // string or column name to sort(name or age or date)
var sortOrder = arr[1]; // asc or desc order
var byVal = 1;
array.sort((a: any, b: any) => {
if(keyString === 'date' ){
let left = Number(new Date(a[keyString]));
let right = Number(new Date(b[keyString]));
return (sortOrder === "asc") ? right - left : left - right;
}
else if(keyString === 'name'){
if(a[keyString] < b[keyString]) {
return (sortOrder === "asc" ) ? -1*byVal : 1*byVal;

} else {
return 0;

}
});
return array;

Cannot instantiate the type List<Product>
List can be instantiated by any class implementing the interface.By this way,Java provides us polymorphic behaviour.See the example below:
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
Instead of instantiating an ArrayList directly,I am using a List to refer to ArrayList object so that we are using only the List interface methods and do not care about its actual implementation.
Examples of classes implementing List are ArrayList,LinkedList,Vector.You probably want to create a List depending upon your requirements.
Example:- a LinkedList is more useful when you hve to do a number of inertion or deletions .Arraylist is more performance intensive as it is backed by a fixed size array and array contents have to be changed by moving or regrowing the array.
Again,using a List we can simply change our object instantiation without changing any code further in your programs.
Suppose we are using ArrayList<String> value = new ArrayList<String>();
we may use a specific method of ArrrayList and out code will not be robust
By using List<String> value = new ArrayList<String>();
we are making sure we are using only List interface methods..and if we want to change it to a LinkedList we simply have to change the code :
List<String> value = new ArrayList<String>();
------ your code uses List interface methods.....
value = new LinkedList<String>();
-----your code still uses List interface methods and we do not have to change anything----
and we dont have to change anything in our code further
By the way a LinkedList also works a Deque which obviously also you cannot instantiate as it is also an interface
How can I programmatically check whether a keyboard is present in iOS app?
This is my solution, it encapsulates everything into a single static method, and you can call it anywhere to check:
+(BOOL)isKeyboardVisible{
static id tokenKeyboardWillShow = nil;
static id tokenKeyboardWillHide = nil;
static BOOL isKbVisible = NO;
@synchronized (self) {
if (tokenKeyboardWillShow == nil){
tokenKeyboardWillShow = [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserverForName:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil queue:[NSOperationQueue mainQueue] usingBlock:^(NSNotification * _Nonnull note) {
@synchronized (self) {
isKbVisible = YES;
}
}];
}
if (tokenKeyboardWillHide == nil){
tokenKeyboardWillHide = [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserverForName:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil queue:[NSOperationQueue mainQueue] usingBlock:^(NSNotification * _Nonnull note) {
@synchronized (self) {
isKbVisible = NO;
}
}];
}
}
return isKbVisible;
}
How do I reset a sequence in Oracle?
This is my approach:
- drop the sequence
- recreate it
Example:
--Drop sequence
DROP SEQUENCE MY_SEQ;
-- Create sequence
create sequence MY_SEQ
minvalue 1
maxvalue 999999999999999999999
start with 1
increment by 1
cache 20;
Execute PHP function with onclick
This is the easiest possible way. If form is posted via post, do php function. Note that if you want to perform function asynchronously (without the need to reload the page), then you'll need AJAX.
<form method="post">
<button name="test">test</button>
</form>
<?php
if(isset($_POST['test'])){
//do php stuff
}
?>
Why is Visual Studio 2010 not able to find/open PDB files?
Had the same problem here but a different solution worked.
First, I tried the following, none of which worked:
Load symbols as suggested by seanlitow
Remove/Add reference to PresentationFramework and PresentationCore
- Restart system
The solution was to undo the last few changes I had made to my code. I had just added a couple radio buttons and event handlers for checked and unchecked events. After removing my recent changes everything compiled. I then added my exact changes back and everything compiled properly. I don't understand why this worked - only thing I can think of is a problem with my VS Solution. Anyway, if none of the other suggestions work, you might try reverting back your most recent changes. NOTE: if you close & re-open Visual Studio your undo history is lost.. so you might try this before you close VS.
What is the best way to dump entire objects to a log in C#?
You could use Visual Studio Immediate Window
Just paste this (change actual
to your object name obviously):
Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.SerializeObject(actual);
It should print object in JSON
You should be able to copy it over textmechanic text tool or notepad++ and replace escaped quotes (\"
) with "
and newlines (\r\n
) with empty space, then remove double quotes ("
) from beginning and end and paste it to jsbeautifier to make it more readable.
UPDATE to OP's comment
public static class Dumper
{
public static void Dump(this object obj)
{
Console.WriteLine(Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.SerializeObject(obj)); // your logger
}
}
this should allow you to dump any object.
Hope this saves you some time.
How can I increase a scrollbar's width using CSS?
If you are talking about the scrollbar that automatically appears on a div
with overflow: scroll
(or auto
), then no, that's still a native scrollbar rendered by the browser using normal OS widgets, and not something that can be styled(*).
Whilst you can replace it with a proxy made out of stylable divs and JavaScript as suggested by Matt, I wouldn't recommend it for the general case. Script-driven scrollbars never quite behave exactly the same as real OS scrollbars, causing usability and accessibility problems.
(*: Except for the IE colouring styles, which I wouldn't really recommend either. Apart from being IE-only, using them forces IE to fall back from using nice scrollbar images from the current Windows theme to ugly old Win95-style scrollbars.)
How to make readonly all inputs in some div in Angular2?
If you meant disable all the inputs in an Angular form at once:
1- Reactive Forms:
myFormGroup.disable() // where myFormGroup is a FormGroup
2- Template driven forms (NgForm):
You should get hold of the NgForm in a NgForm variable (for ex. named myNgForm) then
myNgForm.form.disable() // where form here is an attribute of NgForm
// & of type FormGroup so it accepts the disable() function
In case of NgForm , take care to call the disable method in the right time
To determine when to call it, You can find more details in this Stackoverflow answer
HTML checkbox onclick called in Javascript
Label without an onclick will behave as you would expect. It changes the input. What you relly want is to execute selectAll()
when you click on a label, right?
Then only add select all to the label onclick. Or wrap the input into the the label and assign onclick only for the label
<label for="check_all_1" onclick="selectAll(document.wizard_form, this);">
<input type="checkbox" id="check_all_1" name="check_all_1" title="Select All">
Select All
</label>
Java 8 lambda Void argument
Add a static method inside your functional interface
package example;
interface Action<T, U> {
U execute(T t);
static Action<Void,Void> invoke(Runnable runnable){
return (v) -> {
runnable.run();
return null;
};
}
}
public class Lambda {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Action<Void, Void> a = Action.invoke(() -> System.out.println("Do nothing!"));
Void t = null;
a.execute(t);
}
}
Output
Do nothing!
Oracle 12c Installation failed to access the temporary location
I ran into this error when attempting to install 12c 32x client on Windows 10. "net use \\localhost\c$"
worked, but when I substituted "localhost" the computer's "name" (e.g., \\my-computer\c$
), I got the "System error 53 ...
". Oracle seems to prefer the computer's name.
What fixed it: we temporarily disabled the IPv6 protocol for the computer (our network uses IPv4). How to do this: Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center --> Change adapter settings --> right click on Ethernet Connection --> Properties --> uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) --> OK. That should disable it. After that, \\my-computer\c$
ran successfully in the command prompt. Then the Oracle installer finally completed and we were able to tnsping the database server.
Just to test it out, we re-enabled IPv6 and restarted the computer. \\my-computer\c$
failed in the cmd prompt, but tnsping still functioned correctly.
I hope this helps somebody in the future.
Reading a UTF8 CSV file with Python
Also checkout the answer in this post:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/9347871/1338557
It suggests use of library called ucsv.py. Short and simple replacement for CSV written to address the encoding problem(utf-8) for Python 2.7. Also provides support for csv.DictReader
Edit: Adding sample code that I used:
import ucsv as csv
#Read CSV file containing the right tags to produce
fileObj = open('awol_title_strings.csv', 'rb')
dictReader = csv.DictReader(fileObj, fieldnames = ['titles', 'tags'], delimiter = ',', quotechar = '"')
#Build a dictionary from the CSV file-> {<string>:<tags to produce>}
titleStringsDict = dict()
for row in dictReader:
titleStringsDict.update({unicode(row['titles']):unicode(row['tags'])})
Function to return only alpha-numeric characters from string?
Warning: Note that English is not restricted to just A-Z.
Try this to remove everything except a-z, A-Z and 0-9:
$result = preg_replace("/[^a-zA-Z0-9]+/", "", $s);
If your definition of alphanumeric includes letters in foreign languages and obsolete scripts then you will need to use the Unicode character classes.
Try this to leave only A-Z:
$result = preg_replace("/[^A-Z]+/", "", $s);
The reason for the warning is that words like résumé contains the letter é
that won't be matched by this. If you want to match a specific list of letters adjust the regular expression to include those letters. If you want to match all letters, use the appropriate character classes as mentioned in the comments.
iPhone App Minus App Store?
If you patch /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Info.plist
and then try to debug a application running on the device using a real development provisionen profile from Apple it will probably not work. Symptoms are weird error messages from com.apple.debugserver
and that you can use any bundle identifier without getting a error when building in Xcode. The solution is to restore Info.plist
.
ReactJS: Maximum update depth exceeded error
I know this has plenty of answers but since most of them are old (well, older), none is mentioning approach I grow very fond of really quick. In short:
Use functional components and hooks.
In longer:
Try to use as much functional components instead class ones especially for rendering, AND try to keep them as pure as possible (yes, data is dirty by default I know).
Two bluntly obvious benefits of functional components (there are more):
- Pureness or near pureness makes debugging so much easier
- Functional components remove the need for constructor boiler code
Quick proof for 2nd point - Isn't this absolutely disgusting?
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.toggle= this.toggle.bind(this);
this.state = {
details: false
}
}
If you are using functional components for more then rendering you are gonna need the second part of great duo - hooks. Why are they better then lifecycle methods, what else can they do and much more would take me a lot of space to cover so I recommend you to listen to the man himself: Dan preaching the hooks
In this case you need only two hooks:
A callback hook conveniently named useCallback
. This way you are preventing the binding the function over and over when you re-render.
A state hook, called useState
, for keeping the state despite entire component being function and executing in its entirety (yes, this is possible due to magic of hooks). Within that hook you will store the value of toggle.
If you read to this part you probably wanna see all I have talked about in action and applied to original problem. Here you go:
Demo
For those of you that want only to glance the component and WTF is this about, here you are:
const Item = () => {
// HOOKZ
const [isVisible, setIsVisible] = React.useState('hidden');
const toggle = React.useCallback(() => {
setIsVisible(isVisible === 'visible' ? 'hidden': 'visible');
}, [isVisible, setIsVisible]);
// RENDER
return (
<React.Fragment>
<div style={{visibility: isVisible}}>
PLACEHOLDER MORE INFO
</div>
<button onClick={toggle}>Details</button>
</React.Fragment>
)
};
PS: I wrote this in case many people land here with similar problem. Hopefully, they will like what I have shown here, at least well enough to google it a bit more. This is NOT me saying other answers are wrong, this is me saying that since the time they have been written, there is another way (IMHO, a better one) of dealing with this.
Maven: add a dependency to a jar by relative path
we switched to gradle and this works much better in gradle ;). we just specify a folder we can drop jars into for temporary situations like that. We still have most of our jars defined i the typicaly dependency management section(ie. the same as maven). This is just one more dependency we define.
so basically now we can just drop any jar we want into our lib dir for temporary testing if it is not a in maven repository somewhere.
Parse Json string in C#
Instead of an arraylist or dictionary you can also use a dynamic. Most of the time I use EasyHttp for this, but sure there will by other projects that do the same. An example below:
var http = new HttpClient();
http.Request.Accept = HttpContentTypes.ApplicationJson;
var response = http.Get("url");
var body = response.DynamicBody;
Console.WriteLine("Name {0}", body.AppName.Description);
Console.WriteLine("Name {0}", body.AppName.Value);
On NuGet: EasyHttp
What are the different usecases of PNG vs. GIF vs. JPEG vs. SVG?
You should be aware of a few key factors...
First, there are two types of compression: Lossless and Lossy.
- Lossless means that the image is made smaller, but at no detriment to the quality.
- Lossy means the image is made (even) smaller, but at a detriment to the quality. If you saved an image in a Lossy format over and over, the image quality would get progressively worse and worse.
There are also different colour depths (palettes): Indexed color and Direct color.
- Indexed means that the image can only store a limited number of colours (usually 256), controlled by the author, in something called a Color Map
- Direct means that you can store many thousands of colours that have not been directly chosen by the author
BMP - Lossless / Indexed and Direct
This is an old format. It is Lossless (no image data is lost on save) but there's also little to no compression at all, meaning saving as BMP results in VERY large file sizes. It can have palettes of both Indexed and Direct, but that's a small consolation. The file sizes are so unnecessarily large that nobody ever really uses this format.
Good for: Nothing really. There isn't anything BMP excels at, or isn't done better by other formats.
GIF - Lossless / Indexed only
GIF uses lossless compression, meaning that you can save the image over and over and never lose any data. The file sizes are much smaller than BMP, because good compression is actually used, but it can only store an Indexed palette. This means that for most use cases, there can only be a maximum of 256 different colours in the file. That sounds like quite a small amount, and it is.
GIF images can also be animated and have transparency.
Good for: Logos, line drawings, and other simple images that need to be small. Only really used for websites.
JPEG - Lossy / Direct
JPEGs images were designed to make detailed photographic images as small as possible by removing information that the human eye won't notice. As a result it's a Lossy format, and saving the same file over and over will result in more data being lost over time. It has a palette of thousands of colours and so is great for photographs, but the lossy compression means it's bad for logos and line drawings: Not only will they look fuzzy, but such images will also have a larger file-size compared to GIFs!
Good for: Photographs. Also, gradients.
PNG-8 - Lossless / Indexed
PNG is a newer format, and PNG-8 (the indexed version of PNG) is really a good replacement for GIFs. Sadly, however, it has a few drawbacks: Firstly it cannot support animation like GIF can (well it can, but only Firefox seems to support it, unlike GIF animation which is supported by every browser). Secondly it has some support issues with older browsers like IE6. Thirdly, important software like Photoshop have very poor implementation of the format. (Damn you, Adobe!) PNG-8 can only store 256 colours, like GIFs.
Good for: The main thing that PNG-8 does better than GIFs is having support for Alpha Transparency.
PNG-24 - Lossless / Direct
PNG-24 is a great format that combines Lossless encoding with Direct color (thousands of colours, just like JPEG). It's very much like BMP in that regard, except that PNG actually compresses images, so it results in much smaller files. Unfortunately PNG-24 files will still be bigger than JPEGs (for photos), and GIFs/PNG-8s (for logos and graphics), so you still need to consider if you really want to use one.
Even though PNG-24s allow thousands of colours while having compression, they are not intended to replace JPEG images. A photograph saved as a PNG-24 will likely be at least 5 times larger than a equivalent JPEG image, with very little improvement in visible quality. (Of course, this may be a desirable outcome if you're not concerned about filesize, and want to get the best quality image you can.)
Just like PNG-8, PNG-24 supports alpha-transparency, too.
SVG - Lossless / Vector
A filetype that is currently growing in popularity is SVG, which is different than all the above in that it's a vector file format (the above are all raster). This means that it's actually comprised of lines and curves instead of pixels. When you zoom in on a vector image, you still see a curve or a line. When you zoom in on a raster image, you will see pixels.
For example:
This means SVG is perfect for logos and icons you wish to retain sharpness on Retina screens or at different sizes. It also means a small SVG logo can be used at a much larger (bigger) size without degradation in image quality -- something that would require a separate larger (in terms of filesize) file with raster formats.
SVG file sizes are often tiny, even if they're visually very large, which is great. It's worth bearing in mind, however, that it does depend on the complexity of the shapes used. SVGs require more computing power than raster images because mathematical calculations are involved in drawing the curves and lines. If your logo is especially complicated it could slow down a user's computer, and even have a very large file size. It's important that you simplify your vector shapes as much as possible.
Additionally, SVG files are written in XML, and so can be opened and edited in a text editor(!). This means its values can be manipulated on the fly. For example, you could use JavaScript to change the colour of an SVG icon on a website, much like you would some text (ie. no need for a second image), or even animate them.
In all, they are best for simple flat shapes like logos or graphs.
I hope that helps!
How to Verify if file exist with VB script
There is no built-in functionality in VBS for that, however, you can use the FileSystemObject FileExists function for that :
Option Explicit
DIM fso
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
If (fso.FileExists("C:\Program Files\conf")) Then
WScript.Echo("File exists!")
WScript.Quit()
Else
WScript.Echo("File does not exist!")
End If
WScript.Quit()

Apache won't follow symlinks (403 Forbidden)
Related to this question, I just figured out why my vhost was giving me that 403.
I had tested ALL possibilities on this question and others without luck. It almost drives me mad.
I am setting up a server with releases deployment similar to Capistrano way through symlinks and when I tried to access the DocRoot folder (which is now a symlink to current release folder) it gave me the 403.
My vhost is:
DocumentRoot /var/www/site.com/html
<Directory /var/www/site.com/html>
AllowOverride All

and my main httpd.conf file was (default Apache 2.4 install):
DocumentRoot "/var/www"

It turns out that the main Options definition was taking precedence over my vhosts fiel (for me that is counter intuitive). So I've changed it to:
DocumentRoot "/var/www"
<Directory "/var/www">
Options -Indexes +FollowSymLinks -Includes
(...)
and Eureka! (note the plus sign before FollowSymLinks in MAIN httpd.conf file.
Hope this help some other lost soul.
Hide div by default and show it on click with bootstrap
I realize this question is a bit dated and since it shows up on Google search for similar issue I thought I will expand a little bit more on top of @CowWarrior's answer. I was looking for somewhat similar solution, and after scouring through countless SO question/answers and Bootstrap documentations the solution was pretty simple. Again, this would be using inbuilt Bootstrap collapse
class to show/hide divs and Bootstrap's "Collapse Event".
What I realized is that it is easy to do it using a Bootstrap Accordion, but most of the time even though the functionality required is "somewhat" similar to an Accordion, it's different in a way that one would want to show hide <div>
based on, lets say, menu buttons on a navbar
. Below is a simple solution to this. The anchor tags (<a>
) could be navbar items and based on a collapse event the corresponding div will replace the existing div. It looks slightly sloppy in CodeSnippet, but it is pretty close to achieving the functionality-
All that the JavaScript does is makes all the other <div>
hide using
$(".main-container.collapse").not($(this)).collapse('hide');
when the loaded <div>
is displayed by checking the Collapse event shown.bs.collapse
. Here's the Bootstrap documentation on Collapse Event.
Note: main-container
is just a custom class.
Here it goes-

$(".main-container.collapse").on('shown.bs.collapse', function () { _x000D_

Build error: You must add a reference to System.Runtime
Adding a reference to this System.Runtime.dll assembly fixed the issue:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.5.1\Facades\System.Runtime.dll
Though that file in that explicit path doesn't exist on the build server.
I will post back with more information once I've found some documentation on PCL and these Facades.
Update
Yeah pretty much nothing on facade assemblies on the whole internet.

Why docker container exits immediately
A nice approach would be to start up your processes and services running them in the background and use the wait [n ...]
command at the end of your script. In bash, the wait command forces the current process to:
Wait for each specified process and return its termination status. If n is not given, all currently active child processes are waited for, and the return status is zero.
I got this idea from Sébastien Pujadas' start script for his elk build.
Taking from the original question, your start-all.sh would look something like this...
#!/usr/bin/env bash
/etc/init.d/hadoop-hdfs-namenode start &
/etc/init.d/hadoop-hdfs-datanode start &
/etc/init.d/hadoop-hdfs-secondarynamenode start &
/etc/init.d/hadoop-0.20-mapreduce-tasktracker start &
sudo -u hdfs hadoop fs -chmod 777 /
/etc/init.d/hadoop-0.20-mapreduce-jobtracker start &
wait
How to add a TextView to a LinearLayout dynamically in Android?
If you are using Linearlayout. its params should be "wrap_content" to add dynamic data in your layout xml. if you use match or fill parent then you cannot see the output.
It Should be like this.
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ListView
android:id="@+id/list"
android:layout_width="match_parent"

How do I import a .dmp file into Oracle?
.dmp files are dumps of oracle databases created with the "exp" command. You can import them using the "imp" command.
If you have an oracle client intalled on your machine, you can executed the command
imp help=y
to find out how it works. What will definitely help is knowing from wich schema the data was exported and what the oracle version was.

How to change the session timeout in PHP?
No.
If you don't have access to the php.ini, you can't guarantee that changes would have any effect.
I doubt you need to extend your sessions time though.
It has pretty sensible timeout at the moment and there are no reasons to extend it.

How to select the row with the maximum value in each group
Using dplyr 1.0.2 there are now two ways to do this, one is long hand and the other is using the verb across():
# create data
ID <- c(1,1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3)
Value <- c(2,3,5,2,5,8,17,3,5)
Event <- c(1,1,2,1,2,1,2,2,2)
group <- data.frame(Subject=ID, pt=Value, Event=Event)
Long hand the verb is max() but note the na.rm = TRUE which is useful for examples where there are NAs as in the closed question: Merge rows in a dataframe where the rows are disjoint and contain NAs:
group %>%
group_by(Subject) %>%
summarise(pt = max(pt, na.rm = TRUE),
Event = max(Event, na.rm = TRUE))
This is ok if there are only a few columns but if the table has many columns across() is useful. The examples for this verb are often with summarise(across(start_with... but in this example the columns don't start with the same characters. Either they could be changed or the positions listed:
group %>%
group_by(Subject) %>%
summarise(across(1:ncol(group)-1, max, na.rm = TRUE, .names = "{.col}"))
Note for the verb across() 1 refers to the first column after the first actual column so using ncol(group) won't work as that is too many columns (makes it position 4 rather than 3).
How do I invoke a Java method when given the method name as a string?
The method can be invoked like this. There are also more possibilities (check the reflection api), but this is the simplest one:
import java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException;
import java.lang.reflect.Method;
import org.junit.Assert;
import org.junit.Test;
public class ReflectionTest {
private String methodName = "length";
private String valueObject = "Some object";
@Test
public void testGetMethod() throws SecurityException, NoSuchMethodException, IllegalArgumentException,
IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException {
Method m = valueObject.getClass().getMethod(methodName, new Class[] {});
Object ret = m.invoke(valueObject, new Object[] {});
Assert.assertEquals(11, ret);
}
}
FragmentActivity to Fragment
first of all;
a Fragment
must be inside a FragmentActivity
, that's the first rule,
a FragmentActivity
is quite similar to a standart Activity
that you already know, besides having some Fragment oriented methods
second thing about Fragments, is that there is one important method you MUST call, wich is onCreateView
, where you inflate your layout, think of it as the setContentLayout
here is an example:
@Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { mView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_layout, container, false); return mView; }
and continu your work based on that mView, so to find a View
by id, call mView.findViewById(..);
for the FragmentActivity
part:
the xml part "must" have a FrameLayout
in order to inflate a fragment in it
<FrameLayout android:id="@+id/content_frame" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" > </FrameLayout>
as for the inflation part
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.content_frame, new YOUR_FRAGMENT, "TAG").commit();
begin with these, as there is tons of other stuf you must know about fragments and fragment activities, start of by reading something about it (like life cycle) at the android developer site

How to apply a patch generated with git format-patch?
First you should take a note about difference between git am
and git apply
When you are using git am
you usually wanna to apply many patches. Thus should use:
git am *.patch
or just:
git am
Git will find patches automatically and apply them in order ;-)
UPD
Here you can find how to generate such patches
catch forEach last iteration
const arr= [1, 2, 3]
arr.forEach(function(element){
if(arr[arr.length-1] === element){
console.log("Last Element")

How to call a VbScript from a Batch File without opening an additional command prompt
rem This is the command line version
cscript "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs"
OR
rem This is the windowed version
wscript "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs"
You can also add the option //e:vbscript
to make sure the scripting engine will recognize your script as a vbscript.
Windows/DOS batch files doesn't require escaping \
like *nix.
You can still use "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs"
, but this requires the user has *.vbs
associated to wscript
.
How to know if .keyup() is a character key (jQuery)
I'm not totally satisfied with the other answers given. They've all got some kind of flaw to them.
Using keyPress
with event.which
is unreliable because you can't catch a backspace or a delete (as mentioned by Tarl).
Using keyDown
(as in Niva's and Tarl's answers) is a bit better, but the solution is flawed because it attempts to use event.keyCode
with String.fromCharCode()
(keyCode and charCode are not the same!).
However, what we DO have with the keydown
or keyup
event is the actual key that was pressed (event.key
).
As far as I can tell, any key
with a length of 1 is a character (number or letter) regardless of which language keyboard you're using. Please correct me if that's not true!
Then there's that very long answer from asdf. That might work perfectly, but it seems like overkill.
So here's a simple solution that will catch all characters, backspace, and delete. (Note: either keyup
or keydown
will work here, but keypress
will not)
$("input").keydown(function(event) {
var isWordCharacter = event.key.length === 1;
var isBackspaceOrDelete = event.keyCode === 8 || event.keyCode === 46;
if (isWordCharacter || isBackspaceOrDelete) {
// do something
}
});
How to change package name of Android Project in Eclipse?
I had big trouble with this too.
I renamed the project and the package via refactoring, but it rendered the app useless. I renamed it back to the original and used the Android tools to rename the package and this worked, but my package folder and classes had the old name.
I then refactored the package folder. Now the app wouldn't run. My manifest was a mess. It doubled up my launcher name for example, com.ronguilmet.app/com.ronguilmet.com.class
. I fixed that, and I had to manually edit all activities.
Difference between checkout and export in SVN
Any chance the build process is looking into the subdirectories and including something it shouldn't? BTW, you can do a legal checkout, then remove the .svn and all it contains. That should give you the same as an export. Try compiling that, before and after removing the metadata, as it were.
Is there a way to cache GitHub credentials for pushing commits?
The composer documentation mentions that you can prevent it from using the GitHub API, so that it acts like git clone
:
If you set the no-api
key to true
on a GitHub repository it will clone the repository as it would with any other Git repository instead of using the GitHub API. But unlike using the git
driver directly, composer will still attempt to use GitHub's zip files.
So the section would look like this:
"repositories": [
{
"type": "vcs",
"no-api": true,
"url": "https://github.com/your/repo"
}
],
Keep in mind that the API is there for a reason. So it this should be a method of last resort regarding the increased load on github.com.
Import multiple csv files into pandas and concatenate into one DataFrame
If you want to search recursively (Python 3.5 or above), you can do the following:
from glob import iglob
import pandas as pd
path = r'C:\user\your\path\**\*.csv'
all_rec = iglob(path, recursive=True)
dataframes = (pd.read_csv(f) for f in all_rec)
big_dataframe = pd.concat(dataframes, ignore_index=True)
Note that the three last lines can be expressed in one single line:
df = pd.concat((pd.read_csv(f) for f in iglob(path, recursive=True)), ignore_index=True)
You can find the documentation of **
here. Also, I used iglob
instead of glob
, as it returns an iterator instead of a list.
EDIT: Multiplatform recursive function:
You can wrap the above into a multiplatform function (Linux, Windows, Mac), so you can do:
df = read_df_rec('C:\user\your\path', *.csv)
Here is the function:
from glob import iglob
from os.path import join
import pandas as pd
def read_df_rec(path, fn_regex=r'*.csv'):
return pd.concat((pd.read_csv(f) for f in iglob(
join(path, '**', fn_regex), recursive=True)), ignore_index=True)

inline conditionals in angular.js
If I understood you well I think you have two ways of doing it.
First you could try ngSwitch and the second possible way would be creating you own filter. Probably ngSwitch is the right aproach but if you want to hide or show inline content just using {{}} filter is the way to go.
Here is a fiddle with a simple filter as an example.
<div ng-app="exapleOfFilter">
<div ng-controller="Ctrl">
<input ng-model="greeting" type="greeting">
<br><br>
<h1>{{greeting|isHello}}</h1>
</div>
</div>
angular.module('exapleOfFilter', []).
filter('isHello', function() {
return function(input) {
// conditional you want to apply
if (input === 'hello') {
return input;
}
return '';
}
});
function Ctrl($scope) {
$scope.greeting = 'hello';
}
What is FCM token in Firebase?
Here is simple steps
add this gradle:
dependencies {
compile "com.google.firebase:firebase-messaging:9.0.0"
}
No extra permission are needed in manifest like GCM.
No receiver is needed to manifest like GCM. With FCM, com.google.android.gms.gcm.GcmReceiver
is added automatically.
Migrate your listener service
A service extending InstanceIDListenerService
is now required only if you want to access the FCM token.
This is needed if you want to
- Manage device tokens to send a messages to single device directly, or
Send messages to device group, or
- Send messages to device group, or
- Subscribe devices to topics with the server subscription management API.
Add Service in manifest
<service
android:name=".MyInstanceIDListenerService">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.google.firebase.INSTANCE_ID_EVENT" />
</intent-filter>
</service>
<service
android:name=".MyFirebaseInstanceIDService">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.google.firebase.INSTANCE_ID_EVENT"/>
</intent-filter>
</service>
Change MyInstanceIDListenerService
to extend FirebaseInstanceIdService
, and update code to listen for token updates and get the token whenever a new token is generated.
public class MyInstanceIDListenerService extends FirebaseInstanceIdService {
...
/**
* Called if InstanceID token is updated. This may occur if the security of
* the previous token had been compromised. Note that this is also called
* when the InstanceID token is initially generated, so this is where
* you retrieve the token.
*/
// [START refresh_token]
@Override
public void onTokenRefresh() {
// Get updated InstanceID token.
String refreshedToken = FirebaseInstanceId.getInstance().getToken();
Log.d(TAG, "Refreshed token: " + refreshedToken);
// TODO: Implement this method to send any registration to your app's servers.
sendRegistrationToServer(refreshedToken);
}
}

Do sessions really violate RESTfulness?
Actually, RESTfulness only applies to RESOURCES, as indicated by a Universal Resource Identifier. So to even talk about things like headers, cookies, etc. in regards to REST is not really appropriate. REST can work over any protocol, even though it happens to be routinely done over HTTP.
The main determiner is this: if you send a REST call, which is a URI, then once the call makes it successfully to the server, does that URI return the same content, assuming no transitions have been performed (PUT, POST, DELETE)? This test would exclude errors or authentication requests being returned, because in that case, the request has not yet made it to the server, meaning the servlet or application that will return the document corresponding to the given URI.
Likewise, in the case of a POST or PUT, can you send a given URI/payload, and regardless of how many times you send the message, it will always update the same data, so that subsequent GETs will return a consistent result?
REST is about the application data, not about the low-level information required to get that data transferred about.
In the following blog post, Roy Fielding gave a nice summary of the whole REST idea:
http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/rest-discuss/conversations/topics/5841
"A RESTful system progresses from one steady-state to the
next, and each such steady-state is both a potential start-state
and a potential end-state. I.e., a RESTful system is an unknown
number of components obeying a simple set of rules such that they
are always either at REST or transitioning from one RESTful
state to another RESTful state. Each state can be completely
understood by the representation(s) it contains and the set of
transitions that it provides, with the transitions limited to a
uniform set of actions to be understandable. The system may be
a complex state diagram, but each user agent is only able to see
one state at a time (the current steady-state) and thus each
state is simple and can be analyzed independently. A user, OTOH,
is able to create their own transitions at any time (e.g., enter
a URL, select a bookmark, open an editor, etc.)."
Going to the issue of authentication, whether it is accomplished through cookies or headers, as long as the information isn't part of the URI and POST payload, it really has nothing to do with REST at all. So, in regards to being stateless, we are talking about the application data only.
For example, as the user enters data into a GUI screen, the client is keeping track of what fields have been entered, which have not, any required fields that are missing etc. This is all CLIENT CONTEXT, and should not be sent or tracked by the server. What does get sent to the server is the complete set of fields that need to be modified in the IDENTIFIED resource (by the URI), such that a transition occurs in that resource from one RESTful state to another.
So, the client keeps track of what the user is doing, and only sends logically complete state transitions to the server.
How to align content of a div to the bottom
Here's the flexy way to do it. Of course, it's not supported by IE8, as the user needed 7 years ago. Depending on what you need to support, some of these can be done away with.
Still, it would be nice if there was a way to do this without an outer container, just have the text align itself within it's own self.
#header {
-webkit-box-align: end;
-webkit-align-items: flex-end;
-ms-flex-align: end;
align-items: flex-end;
display: -webkit-box;
display: -webkit-flex;
display: -ms-flexbox;
display: flex;
height: 150px;
}
Onclick function based on element id
you can try these:
document.getElementById("RootNode").onclick = function(){/*do something*/};
or
$('#RootNode').click(function(){/*do something*/});
or
$(document).on("click", "#RootNode", function(){/*do something*/});
There is a point for the first two method which is, it matters where in your page DOM, you should put them, the whole DOM should be loaded, to be able to find the, which is usually it gets solved if you wrap them in a window.onload
or DOMReady
event, like:
//in Vanilla JavaScript
window.addEventListener("load", function(){
document.getElementById("RootNode").onclick = function(){/*do something*/};
});
//for jQuery
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#RootNode').click(function(){/*do something*/});
});
How can I render inline JavaScript with Jade / Pug?
For multi-line content jade normally uses a "|", however:
Tags that accept only text such as
script, style, and textarea do not
need the leading | character
This said, i cannot reproduce the problem you are having. When i paste that code in a jade template, it produces the right output and prompts me with an alert on page-load.
Get model's fields in Django
Another way is add functions to the model and when you want to override the date you can call the function.
class MyModel(models.Model):
name = models.CharField(max_length=256)
created = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True)
modified = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True)
def set_created_date(self, created_date):
field = self._meta.get_field('created')
field.auto_now_add = False
self.created = created_date
def set_modified_date(self, modified_date):
field = self._meta.get_field('modified')
field.auto_now = False
self.modified = modified_date
my_model = MyModel(name='test')
my_model.set_modified_date(new_date)
my_model.set_created_date(new_date)
my_model.save()
How to rollback just one step using rake db:migrate

$Query->whereBetween('password',[14162756,48384486]);

});
}catch (\Exception $error){

Sometimes adding a WCF Service Reference generates an empty reference.cs
If you recently added a collection to your project when this started to occur, the problem may be caused by two collections which have the same CollectionDataContract attribute:
[CollectionDataContract(Name="AItems", ItemName="A")]
public class CollectionA : List<A> { }
[CollectionDataContract(Name="AItems", ItemName="A")] // Wrong
public class CollectionB : List<B> { }
I fixed the error by sweeping through my project and ensuring that every Name and ItemName attribute was unique:
[CollectionDataContract(Name="AItems", ItemName="A")]
public class CollectionA : List<A> { }
[CollectionDataContract(Name="BItems", ItemName="B")] // Corrected
public class CollectionB : List<B> { }
Then I refreshed the service reference and everything worked again.
Fastest way to iterate over all the chars in a String
FIRST UPDATE: Before you try this ever in a production environment (not advised), read this first: http://www.javaspecialists.eu/archive/Issue237.html
Starting from Java 9, the solution as described won't work anymore, because now Java will store strings as byte[] by default.
SECOND UPDATE: As of 2016-10-25, on my AMDx64 8core and source 1.8, there is no difference between using 'charAt' and field access. It appears that the jvm is sufficiently optimized to inline and streamline any 'string.charAt(n)' calls.
THIRD UPDATE: As of 2020-09-07, on my Ryzen 1950-X 16 core and source 1.14, 'charAt1' is 9 times slower than field access and 'charAt2' is 4 times slower than field access. Field access is back as the clear winner. Note than the program will need to use byte[] access for Java 9+ version jvms.
It all depends on the length of the String
being inspected. If, as the question says, it is for long strings, the fastest way to inspect the string is to use reflection to access the backing char[]
of the string.
A fully randomized benchmark with JDK 8 (win32 and win64) on an 64 AMD Phenom II 4 core 955 @ 3.2 GHZ (in both client mode and server mode) with 9 different techniques (see below!) shows that using String.charAt(n)
is the fastest for small strings and that using reflection
to access the String backing array is almost twice as fast for large strings.
THE EXPERIMENT
9 different optimization techniques are tried.
All string contents are randomized
The test are done for string sizes in multiples of two starting with 0,1,2,4,8,16 etc.
The tests are done 1,000 times per string size
The tests are shuffled into random order each time. In other words, the tests are done in random order every time they are done, over 1000 times over.
The entire test suite is done forwards, and backwards, to show the effect of JVM warmup on optimization and times.
The entire suite is done twice, once in -client
mode and the other in -server
mode.
CONCLUSIONS
-client mode (32 bit)
For strings 1 to 256 characters in length, calling string.charAt(i)
wins with an average processing of 13.4 million to 588 million characters per second.
Also, it is overall 5.5% faster (client) and 13.9% (server) like this:
for (int i = 0; i < data.length(); i++) {
if (data.charAt(i) <= ' ') {
doThrow();
}
}
than like this with a local final length variable:
final int len = data.length();
for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) {
if (data.charAt(i) <= ' ') {
doThrow();
}
}
For long strings, 512 to 256K characters length, using reflection to access the String's backing array is fastest. This technique is almost twice as fast as String.charAt(i) (178% faster). The average speed over this range was 1.111 billion characters per second.
The Field must be obtained ahead of time and then it can be re-used in the library on different strings. Interestingly, unlike the code above, with Field access, it is 9% faster to have a local final length variable than to use 'chars.length' in the loop check. Here is how Field access can be setup as fastest:
final Field field = String.class.getDeclaredField("value");
field.setAccessible(true);
try {
final char[] chars = (char[]) field.get(data);
final int len = chars.length;
for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) {
if (chars[i] <= ' ') {
doThrow();
}
}
return len;
} catch (Exception ex) {
throw new RuntimeException(ex);
}
Special comments on -server mode
Field access starting winning after 32 character length strings in server mode on a 64 bit Java machine on my AMD 64 machine. That was not seen until 512 characters length in client mode.
Also worth noting I think, when I was running JDK 8 (32 bit build) in server mode, the overall performance was 7% slower for both large and small strings. This was with build 121 Dec 2013 of JDK 8 early release. So, for now, it seems that 32 bit server mode is slower than 32 bit client mode.
That being said ... it seems the only server mode that is worth invoking is on a 64 bit machine. Otherwise it actually hampers performance.
For 32 bit build running in -server mode
on an AMD64, I can say this:
- String.charAt(i) is the clear winner overall. Although between sizes 8 to 512 characters there were winners among 'new' 'reuse' and 'field'.
- String.charAt(i) is 45% faster in client mode
- Field access is twice as fast for large Strings in client mode.
Also worth saying, String.chars() (Stream and the parallel version) are a bust. Way slower than any other way. The Streams
API is a rather slow way to perform general string operations.
Wish List
Java String could have predicate accepting optimized methods such as contains(predicate), forEach(consumer), forEachWithIndex(consumer). Thus, without the need for the user to know the length or repeat calls to String methods, these could help parsing libraries beep-beep beep
speedup.
Keep dreaming :)
Happy Strings!

Select first row in each GROUP BY group?
Snowflake/Teradata supports QUALIFY
clause which works like HAVING
for windowed functions:
SELECT id, customer, total
FROM PURCHASES
QUALIFY ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY p.customer ORDER BY p.total DESC) = 1
Move the most recent commit(s) to a new branch with Git
1) Create a new branch, which moves all your changes to new_branch.
git checkout -b new_branch
2) Then go back to old branch.
git checkout master
3) Do git rebase
git rebase -i <short-hash-of-B-commit>
4) Then the opened editor contains last 3 commit information.
...
pick <C's hash> C
pick <D's hash> D
pick <E's hash> E
...
5) Change pick
to drop
in all those 3 commits. Then save and close the editor.
...
drop <C's hash> C
drop <D's hash> D
drop <E's hash> E
...
6) Now last 3 commits are removed from current branch (master
). Now push the branch forcefully, with +
sign before branch name.
git push origin +master
Custom Authentication in ASP.Net-Core
I would like to add something to brilliant @AmiNadimi answer for everyone who going implement his solution in .NET Core 3:
First of all, you should change signature of SignIn
method in UserManager
class from:
public async void SignIn(HttpContext httpContext, UserDbModel user, bool isPersistent = false)
to:
public async Task SignIn(HttpContext httpContext, UserDbModel user, bool isPersistent = false)
It's because you should never use async void
, especially if you work with HttpContext
. Source: Microsoft Docs
The last, but not least, your Configure()
method in Startup.cs
should contains app.UseAuthorization
and app.UseAuthentication
in proper order:
if (env.IsDevelopment())
{
app.UseDeveloperExceptionPage();
}
else
{
app.UseExceptionHandler("/Home/Error");
// The default HSTS value is 30 days. You may want to change this for production scenarios, see https://aka.ms/aspnetcore-hsts.
app.UseHsts();
}
app.UseHttpsRedirection();
app.UseStaticFiles();
app.UseAuthentication();
app.UseRouting();
app.UseAuthorization();
app.UseEndpoints(endpoints =>
{
endpoints.MapControllerRoute(
name: "default",
pattern: "{controller=Home}/{action=Index}/{id?}");
});
How do I enable EF migrations for multiple contexts to separate databases?
In addition to what @ckal suggested, it is critical to give each renamed Configuration.cs its own namespace. If you do not, EF will attempt to apply migrations to the wrong context.
Here are the specific steps that work well for me.
If Migrations are messed up and you want to create a new "baseline":
- Delete any existing .cs files in the Migrations folder
- In SSMS, delete the __MigrationHistory system table.
Creating the initial migration:
In Package Manager Console:
Enable-Migrations -EnableAutomaticMigrations -ContextTypeName
NamespaceOfContext.ContextA -ProjectName ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne
-StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject -ConnectionStringName ContextA
In Solution Explorer: Rename Migrations.Configuration.cs to Migrations.ConfigurationA.cs. This should automatically rename the constructor if using Visual Studio. Make sure it does.
Edit ConfigurationA.cs: Change the namespace to NamespaceOfContext.Migrations.MigrationsA
Enable-Migrations -EnableAutomaticMigrations -ContextTypeName
NamespaceOfContext.ContextB -ProjectName ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne
-StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject -ConnectionStringName ContextB
In Solution Explorer: Rename Migrations.Configuration.cs to Migrations.ConfigurationB.cs. Again, make sure the constructor is also renamed appropriately.
Edit ConfigurationB.cs: Change the namespace to NamespaceOfContext.Migrations.MigrationsB
add-migration InitialBSchema -IgnoreChanges -ConfigurationTypeName
ConfigurationB -ProjectName ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne
-StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject -ConnectionStringName ContextB
Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationB -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextB
add-migration InitialSurveySchema -IgnoreChanges -ConfigurationTypeName
ConfigurationA -ProjectName ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName
NameOfMainProject -ConnectionStringName ContextA
Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationA -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextA
Steps to create migration scripts in Package Manager Console:
Run command
Add-Migration MYMIGRATION -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationA -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextA
or -
Add-Migration MYMIGRATION -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationB -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextB
It is OK to re-run this command until changes are applied to the DB.
Either run the scripts against the desired local database, or run Update-Database without -Script to apply locally:
Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationA -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextA
or -
Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigurationB -ProjectName
ProjectContextIsInIfNotMainOne -StartupProjectName NameOfMainProject
-ConnectionStringName ContextB
How to generate XML file dynamically using PHP?
An easily broken way to do this is :
<?php
// Send the headers
header('Content-type: text/xml');
header('Pragma: public');
header('Cache-control: private');
header('Expires: -1');
echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>";
echo '<xml>';
// echo some dynamically generated content here
/*
<track>
<path>song_path</path>
<title>track_number - track_title</title>
</track>
*/
echo '</xml>';
?>
save it as .php
Why aren't python nested functions called closures?
The question has already been answered by aaronasterling
However, someone might be interested in how the variables are stored under the hood.
Before coming to the snippet:
Closures are functions that inherit variables from their enclosing environment. When you pass a function callback as an argument to another function that will do I/O, this callback function will be invoked later, and this function will — almost magically — remember the context in which it was declared, along with all the variables available in that context.
If a function does not use free variables it doesn't form a closure.
If there is another inner level which uses free variables -- all previous levels save the lexical environment ( example at the end )
function attributes func_closure
in python < 3.X or __closure__
in python > 3.X save the free variables.
Every function in python has this closure attributes, but it doesn't save any content if there is no free variables.
example: of closure attributes but no content inside as there is no free variable.
>>> def foo():
... def fii():
... pass
... return fii
...
>>> f = foo()
>>> f.func_closure
>>> 'func_closure' in dir(f)
True
>>>
NB: FREE VARIABLE IS MUST TO CREATE A CLOSURE.
I will explain using the same snippet as above:
>>> def make_printer(msg):
... def printer():
... print msg
... return printer
...
>>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
>>> printer() #Output: Foo!
And all Python functions have a closure attribute so let's examine the enclosing variables associated with a closure function.
Here is the attribute func_closure
for the function printer
>>> 'func_closure' in dir(printer)
True
>>> printer.func_closure
(<cell at 0x108154c90: str object at 0x108151de0>,)
>>>
The closure
attribute returns a tuple of cell objects which contain details of the variables defined in the enclosing scope.
The first element in the func_closure which could be None or a tuple of cells that contain bindings for the function’s free variables and it is read-only.
>>> dir(printer.func_closure[0])
['__class__', '__cmp__', '__delattr__', '__doc__', '__format__', '__getattribute__',
'__hash__', '__init__', '__new__', '__reduce__', '__reduce_ex__', '__repr__',
'__setattr__', '__sizeof__', '__str__', '__subclasshook__', 'cell_contents']
>>>
Here in the above output you can see cell_contents
, let's see what it stores:
>>> printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'Foo!'
>>> type(printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents)
<type 'str'>
>>>
So, when we called the function printer()
, it accesses the value stored inside the cell_contents
. This is how we got the output as 'Foo!'
Again I will explain using the above snippet with some changes:
>>> def make_printer(msg):
... def printer():
... pass
... return printer
...
>>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
>>> printer.func_closure
>>>
In the above snippet, I din't print msg inside the printer function, so it doesn't create any free variable. As there is no free variable, there will be no content inside the closure. Thats exactly what we see above.
Now I will explain another different snippet to clear out everything Free Variable
with Closure
:
>>> def outer(x):
... def intermediate(y):
... free = 'free'
... def inner(z):
... return '%s %s %s %s' % (x, y, free, z)
... return inner
... return intermediate
...
>>> outer('I')('am')('variable')
'I am free variable'
>>>
>>> inter = outer('I')
>>> inter.func_closure
(<cell at 0x10c989130: str object at 0x10c831b98>,)
>>> inter.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'I'
>>> inn = inter('am')
So, we see that a func_closure
property is a tuple of closure cells, we can refer them and their contents explicitly -- a cell has property "cell_contents"
>>> inn.func_closure
(<cell at 0x10c9807c0: str object at 0x10c9b0990>,
<cell at 0x10c980f68: str object at 0x10c9eaf30>,
<cell at 0x10c989130: str object at 0x10c831b98>)
>>> for i in inn.func_closure:
... print i.cell_contents
...
free
am
I
>>>
Here when we called inn
, it will refer all the save free variables so we get I am free variable
>>> inn('variable')
'I am free variable'
>>>
How do I uninstall nodejs installed from pkg (Mac OS X)?
Use npm to uninstall. Just running sudo npm uninstall npm -g
removes all the files.
To get rid of the extraneous stuff like bash pathnames run this (from nicerobot's answer):
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib/node \
/usr/local/lib/node_modules \
/var/db/receipts/org.nodejs.*
Required attribute on multiple checkboxes with the same name?
Sorry, now I've read what you expected better, so I'm updating the answer.
Based on the HTML5 Specs from W3C, nothing is wrong. I created this JSFiddle test and it's behaving correctly based on the specs (for those browsers based on the specs, like Chrome 11 and Firefox 4):

I agree that it isn't very usable (in fact many people have complained about it in the W3C's mailing lists).
But browsers are just following the standard's recommendations, which is correct. The standard is a little misleading, but we can't do anything about it in practice. You can always use JavaScript for form validation, though, like some great jQuery validation plugin.
Another approach would be choosing a polyfill that can make (almost) all browsers interpret form validation rightly.
jQuery: get parent tr for selected radio button
Try this.
You don't need to prefix attribute name by @
in jQuery selector. Use closest()
method to get the closest parent element matching the selector.
$("#MwDataList input[name=selectRadioGroup]:checked").closest('tr');
You can simplify your method like this
function getSelectedRowGuid() {
return GetRowGuid(
$("#MwDataList > input:radio[@name=selectRadioGroup]:checked :parent tr"));
}
closest()
- Gets the first element that matches the selector, beginning at the current element and progressing up through the DOM tree.
As a side note, the ids of the elements should be unique on the page so try to avoid having same ids for radio buttons which I can see in your markup. If you are not going to use the ids then just remove it from the markup.
PHP mail not working for some reason
Check your SMTP settings in your php.ini file. Your host should have some documentation about what credentials to use. Perhaps you can check your error log file, it might have more information available.
changing iframe source with jquery
Using attr() pointing to an external domain may trigger an error like this in Chrome: "Refused to display document because display forbidden by X-Frame-Options". The workaround to this can be to move the whole iframe HTML code into the script (eg. using .html() in jQuery).
Example:
var divMapLoaded = false;
$("#container").scroll(function() {
if ((!divMapLoaded) && ($("#map").position().left <= $("#map").width())) {
$("#map-iframe").html("<iframe id=\"map-iframe\" " +
"width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" " +
"marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" " +
"src=\"http://www.google.it/maps?t=m&cid=0x3e589d98063177ab&ie=UTF8&iwloc=A&brcurrent=5,0,1&ll=41.123115,16.853177&spn=0.005617,0.009943&output=embed\"" +
"></iframe>");
divMapLoaded = true;
}
Generate Json schema from XML schema (XSD)
Disclaimer: I am the author of Jsonix, a powerful open-source XML<->JSON JavaScript mapping library.
Today I've released the new version of the Jsonix Schema Compiler, with the new JSON Schema generation feature.
Let's take the Purchase Order schema for example. Here's a fragment:
<xsd:element name="purchaseOrder" type="PurchaseOrderType"/>
<xsd:complexType name="PurchaseOrderType">
<xsd:sequence>
<xsd:element name="shipTo" type="USAddress"/>
<xsd:element name="billTo" type="USAddress"/>
<xsd:element ref="comment" minOccurs="0"/>
<xsd:element name="items" type="Items"/>
</xsd:sequence>
<xsd:attribute name="orderDate" type="xsd:date"/>
</xsd:complexType>
You can compile this schema using the provided command-line tool:
java -jar jsonix-schema-compiler-full.jar
-generateJsonSchema
-p PO
schemas/purchaseorder.xsd
The compiler generates Jsonix mappings as well the matching JSON Schema.
Here's what the result looks like (edited for brevity):
{
"id":"PurchaseOrder.jsonschema#",
"definitions":{
"PurchaseOrderType":{
"type":"object",
"title":"PurchaseOrderType",
"properties":{
"shipTo":{
"title":"shipTo",
"allOf":[
{
"$ref":"#/definitions/USAddress"
}
]
},
"billTo":{
"title":"billTo",
"allOf":[
{
"$ref":"#/definitions/USAddress"
}
]
}, ...
}
},
"USAddress":{ ... }, ...
},
"anyOf":[
{
"type":"object",
"properties":{
"name":{
"$ref":"http://www.jsonix.org/jsonschemas/w3c/2001/XMLSchema.jsonschema#/definitions/QName"
},
"value":{
"$ref":"#/definitions/PurchaseOrderType"
}
},
"elementName":{
"localPart":"purchaseOrder",
"namespaceURI":""
}
}
]
}
Now this JSON Schema is derived from the original XML Schema. It is not exactly 1:1 transformation, but very very close.
The generated JSON Schema matches the generatd Jsonix mappings. So if you use Jsonix for XML<->JSON conversion, you should be able to validate JSON with the generated JSON Schema. It also contains all the required metadata from the originating XML Schema (like element, attribute and type names).
Disclaimer: At the moment this is a new and experimental feature. There are certain known limitations and missing functionality. But I'm expecting this to manifest and mature very fast.

Trim string in JavaScript?
You can do it using the plain JavaScript:
function trimString(str, maxLen) {
if (str.length <= maxLen) {
return str;
}
var trimmed = str.substr(0, maxLen);
return trimmed.substr(0, trimmed.lastIndexOf(' ')) + '…';
}
// Let's test it
sentenceOne = "too short";
sentencetwo = "more than the max length";
console.log(trimString(sentenceOne, 15));
console.log(trimString(sentencetwo, 15));

</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
</androidx.cardview.widget.CardView>
After that, i called it in Kotlin as follows :-
val builder = AlertDialog.Builder(mContext)
val viewGroup: ViewGroup = findViewById(android.R.id.content)
val dialogView: View =
LayoutInflater.from(mContext).inflate(R.layout.subdomain_bottom_sheet,
viewGroup, false)
val alertDialog: AlertDialog = builder.create()
alertDialog.setView(dialogView,0,0,0,0)
alertDialog.show()
val windowParam = WindowManager.LayoutParams()
windowParam.copyFrom(alertDialog.window!!.attributes)
windowParam.width = AppConstant.getDisplayMetricsWidth(mContext) - 100
windowParam.height = WindowManager.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT
windowParam.gravity = Gravity.CENTER
alertDialog.window!!.attributes = windowParam
alertDialog.window!!.setBackgroundDrawable
(ColorDrawable(Color.TRANSPARENT))
Where last line is very important. Missing that would cause a color(mostly white) to show behind the corners.
How to make <input type="file"/> accept only these types?
The value of the accept
attribute is, as per HTML5 LC, a comma-separated list of items, each of which is a specific media type like image/gif
, or a notation like image/*
that refers to all image
types, or a filename extension like .gif
. IE 10+ and Chrome support all of these, whereas Firefox does not support the extensions. Thus, the safest way is to use media types and notations like image/*
, in this case
<input type="file" name="foo" accept=
"application/msword, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint,
text/plain, application/pdf, image/*">
if I understand the intents correctly. Beware that browsers might not recognize the media type names exactly as specified in the authoritative registry, so some testing is needed.
How do I find the mime-type of a file with php?
I actually got fed up by the lack of standard MIME sniffing methods in PHP. Install fileinfo... Use deprecated functions... Oh these work, but only for images! I got fed up of it, so I did some research and found the WHATWG Mimesniffing spec - I believe this is still a draft spec though.
Anyway, using this specification, I was able to implement a mimesniffer in PHP. Performance is not an issue. In fact on my humble machine, I was able to open and sniff thousands of files before PHP timed out.
Here is the MimeReader class.
require_once("MimeReader.php");
$mime = new MimeReader(<YOUR FILE PATH>);
$mime_type_string = $mime->getType(); // "image/jpeg" etc.

How to create folder with PHP code?
You can create a directory with PHP using the mkdir() function.
mkdir("/path/to/my/dir", 0700);
You can use fopen() to create a file inside that directory with the use of the mode w
.
fopen('myfile.txt', 'w');
w : Open for writing only; place the file pointer at the beginning of the file and truncate the file to zero length. If the file does not exist, attempt to create it.

How to parse the Manifest.mbdb file in an iOS 4.0 iTunes Backup
In iOS 5, the Manifest.mbdx file was eliminated. For the purpose of this article, it was redundant anyway, because the domain and path are in Manifest.mbdb and the ID hash can be generated with SHA1.
Here is my update of galloglass's code so it works with backups of iOS 5 devices. The only changes are elimination of process_mbdx_file() and addition of a few lines in process_mbdb_file().
Tested with backups of an iPhone 4S and an iPad 1, both with plenty of apps and files.

Finding the source code for built-in Python functions?
Since Python is open source you can read the source code.
To find out what file a particular module or function is implemented in you can usually print the __file__
attribute. Alternatively, you may use the inspect
module, see the section Retrieving Source Code in the documentation of inspect
.
For built-in classes and methods this is not so straightforward since inspect.getfile
and inspect.getsource
will return a type error stating that the object is built-in. However, many of the built-in types can be found in the Objects
sub-directory of the Python source trunk. For example, see here for the implementation of the enumerate class or here for the implementation of the list
type.
Scroll to a specific Element Using html
You should mention whether you want it to smoothly scroll or simply jump to an element.
Jumping is easy & can be done just with HTML or Javascript. The simplest is to use anchor's. The limitation is that every element you want to scroll to has to have an id
. A side effect is that #theID
will be appended to the URL
<a href="#scroll">Go to Title</a>
<div>
<h1 id="scroll">Title</h1>
</div>
You can add CSS effects to the target when the link is clicked with the CSS :target
selector.
With some basic JS you can do more, namely the method scrollIntoView()
. Your elements don't need an id, though it is still easier, e.g.
function onLinkClick() {
document.getElementsByTagName('h2')[3].scrollIntoView();
// will scroll to 4th h3 element
}
Finally, if you need smooth scrolling, you should have a look at JS Smooth Scroll or this snippet for jQuery. (NB: there are probably many more).

How to count no of lines in text file and store the value into a variable using batch script?
In the below code, the variable name are SalaryCount
and TaxCount
@ECHO OFF
echo Process started, please wait...
for /f %%C in ('Find /V /C "" ^< "D:\Trial\Salary.txt"') do set SalaryCount=%%C
echo Salary,%SalaryCount%
for /f %%C in ('Find /V /C "" ^< "D:\Trial\Tax.txt"') do set TaxCount=%%C
echo Tax,%TaxCount%
Now if you need to output these values to a csv file, you could use the below code.
@ECHO OFF
cd "D:\CSVOutputPath\"
echo Process started, please wait...
echo FILENAME,FILECOUNT> SUMMARY.csv
for /f %%C in ('Find /V /C "" ^< "D:\Trial\Salary.txt"') do set Count=%%C
echo Salary,%Count%>> SUMMARY.csv
for /f %%C in ('Find /V /C "" ^< "D:\Trial\Tax.txt"') do set Count=%%C
echo Tax,%Count%>> SUMMARY.csv
The >
will overwrite the existing content of the file and the >>
will append the new data to existing data. The CSV will be generated in D:\CSVOutputPath
How does System.out.print() work?
@ikis, firstly as @Devolus said these are not multiple aruements passed to print()
. Indeed all these arguments passed get
concatenated to form a single String. So print()
does not teakes multiple arguements (a. k. a. var-args). Now the concept that remains to discuss is how print()
prints any type of the arguement passed
to it.
To explain this - toString()
is the secret:
System
is a class, with a static field out
, of type PrintStream
. So you're calling the println(Object x)
method of a
PrintStream
.
It is implemented like this:
public void println(Object x) {
String s = String.valueOf(x);
synchronized (this) {
print(s);
newLine();
}
}
As wee see, it's calling the String.valueOf(Object) method. This is implemented as follows:
public static String valueOf(Object obj) {
return (obj == null) ? "null" : obj.toString();
}
And here you see, that toString()
is called.
So whatever is returned from the toString()
method of that class, same gets printed.
And as we know the toString()
is in Object
class and thus inherits a default iplementation from Object.
ex: Remember when we have a class whose toString()
we override and then we pass that ref variable to print
, what do you see printed? - It's what we return from the toString()
.
How to keep environment variables when using sudo
You can also combine the two env_keep
statements in Ahmed Aswani's answer into a single statement like this:
Defaults env_keep += "http_proxy https_proxy"
You should also consider specifying env_keep
for only a single command like this:
Defaults!/bin/[your_command] env_keep += "http_proxy https_proxy"
How to get started with Windows 7 gadgets
Combining and organizing all the current answers into one answer, then adding my own research:
Brief summary of Microsoft gadget development:
What are they written in? Windows Vista/Seven gadgets are developed in a mix of XML, HTML, CSS, and some IE scripting language. It is also possible to use C# with the latest release of Script#.
How are they packaged/deployed? The actual gadgets are stored in *.gadget files, which are simply the text source files listed above compressed into a single zip file.
Useful references for gadget development:
where do I start? Good introductory references to Windows Vista/Seven gadget development:
If you are willing to use offline resources, this book appears to be an excellent resource:
What do I need to know? Some other useful references; not necessarily instructional
Update: Well, this has proven to be a popular answer~ Sharing my own recent experience with Windows 7 gadget development:
Perhaps the easiest way to get started with Windows 7 gadget development is to modify a gadget that has already been developed. I recently did this myself because I wanted a larger clock gadget. Unable to find any, I tinkered with a copy of the standard Windows clock gadget until it was twice as large. I recommend starting with the clock gadget because it is fairly small and well-written. Here is the process I used:
- Locate the gadget you wish to modify. They are located in several different places. Search for folders named *.gadget. Example:
C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\Clock.Gadget\
- Make a copy of this folder (installed gadgets are not wrapped in zip files.)
- Rename some key parts:
- The folder name
- The name inside the gadget.xml file. It looks like:
<name>Clock</name>
This is the name that will be displayed in the "Gadgets Gallery" window.
- Zip up the entire *.gadget directory.
- Change the file extension from "zip" to "gadget" (Probably just need to remove the ".zip" extension.)
- Install your new copy of the gadget by double clicking the new *.gadget file. You can now add your gadget like any other gadget (right click desktop->Gadgets)
- Locate where this gadget is installed (probably to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\
)
- Modify the files in this directory. The gadget is very similar to a web page: HTML, CSS, JS, and image files. The gadget.xml file specifies which file is opened as the "index" page for the gadget.
- After you save the changes, view the results by installing a new instance of the gadget. You can also debug the JavaScript (The rest of that article is pretty informative, too).
Angular 4.3 - HttpClient set params
Just wanted to add that if you want to add several parameters with the same key name for example:
www.test.com/home?id=1&id=2
let params = new HttpParams();
params = params.append(key, value);
Use append, if you use set, it will overwrite the previous value with the same key name.
What underlies this JavaScript idiom: var self = this?
function Person(firstname, lastname) {
this.firstname = firstname;
this.lastname = lastname;
this.getfullname = function () {
return `${this.firstname} ${this.lastname}`;
};
let that = this;
this.sayHi = function() {
console.log(`i am this , ${this.firstname}`);
console.log(`i am that , ${that.firstname}`);
};
}
let thisss = new Person('thatbetty', 'thatzhao');
let thatt = {firstname: 'thisbetty', lastname: 'thiszhao'};
thisss.sayHi.call(thatt);
Adding a slide effect to bootstrap dropdown
If you update to Bootstrap 3 (BS3), they've exposed a lot of Javascript events that are nice to tie your desired functionality into. In BS3, this code will give all of your dropdown menus the animation effect you are looking for:
// Add slideDown animation to Bootstrap dropdown when expanding.
$('.dropdown').on('show.bs.dropdown', function() {
$(this).find('.dropdown-menu').first().stop(true, true).slideDown();
});
// Add slideUp animation to Bootstrap dropdown when collapsing.
$('.dropdown').on('hide.bs.dropdown', function() {
$(this).find('.dropdown-menu').first().stop(true, true).slideUp();
});
You can read about BS3 events here and specifically about the dropdown events here.
Get value of div content using jquery
You can simply use the method text() of jQuery to get all the content of the text contained in the element. The text() method also returns the textual content of the child elements.
HTML Code:
<div id="box">
<p>Lorem ipsum elit sit ut, consectetur adipiscing dolor.</p>
</div>
JQuery Code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("button").click(function(){
var divContent = $('#box').text();
alert(divContent);
});
});
You can see an example here: How to get the text content of an element with jQuery
FTP/SFTP access to an Amazon S3 Bucket
WinSCp now supports S3 protocol
First, make sure your AWS user with S3 access permissions has an “Access key ID” created. You also have to know the “Secret access key”. Access keys are created and managed on Users page of IAM Management Console.
Make sure New site node is selected.
On the New site node, select Amazon S3 protocol.
Enter your AWS user Access key ID and Secret access key
Save your site settings using the Save button.
Login using the Login button.

What is the purpose of the vshost.exe file?
Adding on, you can turn off the creation of vshost files for your Release build configuration and have it enabled for Debug.
Steps
- Project Properties > Debug > Configuration (Release) > Disable the Visual Studio hosting process
- Project Properties > Debug > Configuration (Debug) > Enable the Visual Studio hosting process
Reference
- MSDN How to: Disable the Hosting Process
- MSDN Hosting Process (vshost.exe)
Excerpt from MSDN How to: Disable the Hosting Process
Calls to certain APIs can be affected when the hosting process is enabled. In these cases, it is necessary to disable the hosting process to return the correct results.
To disable the hosting process
- Open an executable project in Visual Studio. Projects that do not produce executables (for example, class library or service projects) do not have this option.
- On the Project menu, click Properties.
- Click the Debug tab.
- Clear the Enable the Visual Studio hosting process check box.
When the hosting process is disabled, several debugging features are unavailable or experience decreased performance. For more information, see Debugging and the Hosting Process.
In general, when the hosting process is disabled:
- The time needed to begin debugging .NET Framework applications increases.
- Design-time expression evaluation is unavailable.
- Partial trust debugging is unavailable.

How to change color of Android ListView separator line?
You can set this value in a layout xml file using android:divider="#FF0000"
. If you are changing the colour/drawable, you have to set/reset the height of the divider too.
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<ListView
android:id="@+id/android:list"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:divider="#FFCC00"
android:dividerHeight="4px"/>
</LinearLayout>
Sending HTTP Post request with SOAP action using org.apache.http
The simplest way to identify what needs to be set on the soap action when invoking WCF service through a java client would to load the wsdl, go to the operation name matching the service. From there pick up the action URI and set it in the soap action header. You are done.
eg: from wsdl
<wsdl:operation name="MyOperation">
<wsdl:input wsaw:Action="http://tempuri.org/IMyService/MyOperation" message="tns:IMyService_MyOperation_InputMessage" />
<wsdl:output wsaw:Action="http://tempuri.org/IMyService/MyServiceResponse" message="tns:IMyService_MyOperation_OutputMessage" />
Now in the java code we should set the soap action as the Action URI.
//The rest of the httpPost object properties have not been shown for brevity
string actionURI='http://tempuri.org/IMyService/MyOperation';
httpPost.setHeader( "SOAPAction", actionURI);
VBScript -- Using error handling
I'm exceptionally new to VBScript, so this may not be considered best practice or there may be a reason it shouldn't be done this that way I'm not yet aware of, but this is the solution I came up with to trim down the amount of error logging code in my main code block.
Dim oConn, connStr
Set oConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
connStr = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=XX;UID=XX;PWD=XX;Databse=XX"
ON ERROR RESUME NEXT
oConn.Open connStr
If err.Number <> 0 Then : showError() : End If
Sub ShowError()
'You could write the error details to the console...
errDetail = "<script>" & _
"console.log('Description: " & err.Description & "');" & _
"console.log('Error number: " & err.Number & "');" & _
"console.log('Error source: " & err.Source & "');" & _
"</script>"
Response.Write(errDetail)
'...you could display the error info directly in the page...
Response.Write("Error Description: " & err.Description)
Response.Write("Error Source: " & err.Source)
Response.Write("Error Number: " & err.Number)
'...or you could execute additional code when an error is thrown...
'Insert error handling code here
err.clear
End Sub
How to convert an Stream into a byte[] in C#?
Stream s;
int len = (int)s.Length;
byte[] b = new byte[len];
int pos = 0;
while((r = s.Read(b, pos, len - pos)) > 0) {
pos += r;
}
A slightly more complicated solution is necesary is s.Length
exceeds Int32.MaxValue
. But if you need to read a stream that large into memory, you might want to think about a different approach to your problem.
Edit: If your stream does not support the Length
property, modify using Earwicker's workaround.
public static class StreamExtensions {
// Credit to Earwicker
public static void CopyStream(this Stream input, Stream output) {
byte[] b = new byte[32768];
int r;
while ((r = input.Read(b, 0, b.Length)) > 0) {
output.Write(b, 0, r);
}
}
}
[...]
Stream s;
MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream();
s.CopyStream(ms);
byte[] b = ms.GetBuffer();
Executing Batch File in C#
It works fine. I tested it like this:
String command = @"C:\Doit.bat";
ProcessInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe", "/c " + command);
// ProcessInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
I commented out turning off the window so I could SEE it run.

Java 8: How do I work with exception throwing methods in streams?
If all you want is to invoke foo
, and you prefer to propagate the exception as is (without wrapping), you can also just use Java's for
loop instead (after turning the Stream into an Iterable with some trickery):
for (A a : (Iterable<A>) as::iterator) {
a.foo();
}
This is, at least, what I do in my JUnit tests, where I don't want to go through the trouble of wrapping my checked exceptions (and in fact prefer my tests to throw the unwrapped original ones)
HTML: how to make 2 tables with different CSS
You need to assign different classes to each table.
Create a class in CSS with the dot '.' operator and write your properties inside each class. For example,
.table1 {
//some properties
}
.table2 {
//Some other properties
}
and use them in your html code.
Simple InputBox function
The simplest way to get an input box is with the Read-Host cmdlet and -AsSecureString parameter.
$us = Read-Host 'Enter Your User Name:' -AsSecureString
$pw = Read-Host 'Enter Your Password:' -AsSecureString
This is especially useful if you are gathering login info like my example above. If you prefer to keep the variables obfuscated as SecureString objects you can convert the variables on the fly like this:
[Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($us))
[Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($pw))
If the info does not need to be secure at all you can convert it to plain text:
$user = [Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($us))
Read-Host and -AsSecureString appear to have been included in all PowerShell versions (1-6) but I do not have PowerShell 1 or 2 to ensure the commands work identically.

Export data from Chrome developer tool
I had same issue for which I came here. With some trials, I figured out for copying multiple pages of chrome data as in the question I zoomed out till I got all the data in one page, that is, without scroll, with very small font size. Now copy and paste that in excel which copies all the records and in normal font.
This is good for few pages of data I think.
prevent iphone default keyboard when focusing an <input>
I asked a similar question here and got a fantastic answer - use the iPhone native datepicker - it's great.
How to turn off iPhone keypad for a specified input field on web page
Synopsis / pseudo-code:
if small screen mobile device
set field type to "date" - e.g. document.getElementById('my_field').type = "date";
// input fields of type "date" invoke the iPhone datepicker.
else
init datepicker - e.g. $("#my_field").datepicker();
The reason for dynamically setting the field type to "date" is that Opera will pop up its own native datepicker otherwise, and I'm assuming you want to show the datepicker consistently on desktop browsers.
Unstage a deleted file in git
From manual page,
git-reset - Reset current HEAD to the specified state
git reset [-q] [<tree-ish>] [--] <paths>...
In the first and second form, copy entries from <tree-ish> to the index.
for example, when we use git reset HEAD~1
it reset our current HEAD to HEAD~1
so when we use git reset 'some-deleted-file-path'
git assume 'some-deleted-file-path' as some commit point and try to reset out current HEAD to there.
And it ends up fail
fatal: ambiguous argument 'some-deleted-file-path': unknown revision or path not in the working tree.
Best way to define private methods for a class in Objective-C
There isn't really a "private method" in Objective-C, if the runtime can work out which implementation to use it will do it. But that's not to say that there aren't methods which aren't part of the documented interface. For those methods I think that a category is fine. Rather than putting the @interface
at the top of the .m file like your point 2, I'd put it into its own .h file. A convention I follow (and have seen elsewhere, I think it's an Apple convention as Xcode now gives automatic support for it) is to name such a file after its class and category with a + separating them, so @interface GLObject (PrivateMethods)
can be found in GLObject+PrivateMethods.h
. The reason for providing the header file is so that you can import it in your unit test classes :-).
By the way, as far as implementing/defining methods near the end of the .m file is concerned, you can do that with a category by implementing the category at the bottom of the .m file:
@implementation GLObject(PrivateMethods)
- (void)secretFeature;
@end
or with a class extension (the thing you call an "empty category"), just define those methods last. Objective-C methods can be defined and used in any order in the implementation, so there's nothing to stop you putting the "private" methods at the end of the file.
Even with class extensions I will often create a separate header (GLObject+Extension.h
) so that I can use those methods if required, mimicking "friend" or "protected" visibility.
Since this answer was originally written, the clang compiler has started doing two passes for Objective-C methods. This means you can avoid declaring your "private" methods completely, and whether they're above or below the calling site they'll be found by the compiler.
What is the default value for enum variable?
It is whatever member of the enumeration represents the value 0
. Specifically, from the documentation:
The default value of an enum E
is the value produced by the expression (E)0
.
As an example, take the following enum:
enum E
{
Foo, Bar, Baz, Quux
}
Without overriding the default values, printing default(E)
returns Foo
since it's the first-occurring element.
However, it is not always the case that 0
of an enum is represented by the first member. For example, if you do this:
enum F
{
// Give each element a custom value
Foo = 1, Bar = 2, Baz = 3, Quux = 0
}
Printing default(F)
will give you Quux
, not Foo
.
If none of the elements in an enum G
correspond to 0
:
enum G
{
Foo = 1, Bar = 2, Baz = 3, Quux = 4
}
default(G)
returns literally 0
, although its type remains as G
(as quoted by the docs above, a cast to the given enum type).

How to copy marked text in notepad++
This is similar to https://superuser.com/questions/477628/export-all-regular-expression-matches-in-textpad-or-notepad-as-a-list.
I hope you are trying to extract :
"Performance"
"Maintenance"
"System Stability"
Here is the way -
Step 1/3: Open Search->Find->Replace Tab , select Regular Expression Radio button. Enter in Find what : (\"[a-zA-Z0-9\s]+\")
and in Replace with : \n\1 and click Replace All buttton.
Step 2/3: After first step your keywords will be in next lines.(as shown in next image). Now go to Mark tab and enter the same regex expression in Find what: Field.
Put check mark on Bookmark Line. Then Click Mark All.
Step 3/3 : Goto Search -> Bookmarks -> Remove unmarked lines.
So you have the final result as below
C++ template typedef
C++11 added alias declarations, which are generalization of typedef
, allowing templates:
template <size_t N>
using Vector = Matrix<N, 1>;
The type Vector<3>
is equivalent to Matrix<3, 1>
.
In C++03, the closest approximation was:
template <size_t N>
struct Vector
{
typedef Matrix<N, 1> type;
};
Here, the type Vector<3>::type
is equivalent to Matrix<3, 1>
.
Access PHP variable in JavaScript
I'm not sure how necessary this is, and it adds a call to getElementById
, but if you're really keen on getting inline JavaScript out of your code, you can pass it as an HTML attribute, namely:
<span class="metadata" id="metadata-size-of-widget" title="<?php echo json_encode($size_of_widget) ?>"></span>
And then in your JavaScript:
var size_of_widget = document.getElementById("metadata-size-of-widget").title;
