Programs & Examples On #Nunit

NUnit is an open source unit testing framework for .NET and Silverlight written in C#. It serves the same purpose as JUnit or TestNG does in the Java world, and is one of many in the xUnit family.

Selenium Error - The HTTP request to the remote WebDriver timed out after 60 seconds

In my case the issue was with SendKeys() and Remote Desktop. Posting the workaround I have so far:

I had a Selenium test which would fail when run as part of a Jenkins job on a node hosted in vSphere and administered through RDP. After some troubleshooting it turned out it succeeds if Remote Desktop is connected and focused but fails with the exception if Remote Desktop is disconnected or even minimized.

As a workaround, I logged through vSphere Console instead of RDP and then even after closing vSphere the test didn't fail anymore. This is a workaround but I would have to be careful never to login through RDP and always to administer only through vSphere Console.

HRESULT: 0x80131040: The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference

Just delete the bin folder and then then the project recreates all again and it will be working now .

How to find path of active app.config file?

The first time I realized that the Unit testing project referenced the app.config in that project rather then the app.config associated with my production code project (off course, DOH) I just added a line in the Post Build Event of the Prod project that will copy the app.config to the bin folder of the test project.

Problem solved

I haven't noticed any weird side effects so far, but I am not sure that this is the right solution, but at least it seems to work.

Verifying a specific parameter with Moq

I've been verifying calls in the same manner - I believe it is the right way to do it.

mockSomething.Verify(ms => ms.Method(
    It.IsAny<int>(),
    It.Is<MyObject>(mo => mo.Id == 5 && mo.description == "test")
  ), Times.Once());

If your lambda expression becomes unwieldy, you could create a function that takes MyObject as input and outputs true/false...

mockSomething.Verify(ms => ms.Method(
    It.IsAny<int>(),
    It.Is<MyObject>(mo => MyObjectFunc(mo))
  ), Times.Once());

private bool MyObjectFunc(MyObject myObject)
{
  return myObject.Id == 5 && myObject.description == "test";
}

Also, be aware of a bug with Mock where the error message states that the method was called multiple times when it wasn't called at all. They might have fixed it by now - but if you see that message you might consider verifying that the method was actually called.

EDIT: Here is an example of calling verify multiple times for those scenarios where you want to verify that you call a function for each object in a list (for example).

foreach (var item in myList)
  mockRepository.Verify(mr => mr.Update(
    It.Is<MyObject>(i => i.Id == item.Id && i.LastUpdated == item.LastUpdated),
    Times.Once());

Same approach for setup...

foreach (var item in myList) {
  var stuff = ... // some result specific to the item
  this.mockRepository
    .Setup(mr => mr.GetStuff(item.itemId))
    .Returns(stuff);
}

So each time GetStuff is called for that itemId, it will return stuff specific to that item. Alternatively, you could use a function that takes itemId as input and returns stuff.

this.mockRepository
    .Setup(mr => mr.GetStuff(It.IsAny<int>()))
    .Returns((int id) => SomeFunctionThatReturnsStuff(id));

One other method I saw on a blog some time back (Phil Haack perhaps?) had setup returning from some kind of dequeue object - each time the function was called it would pull an item from a queue.

NUnit vs. MbUnit vs. MSTest vs. xUnit.net

It's not a big deal, it's pretty easy to switch between them. MSTest being integrated isn't a big deal either, just grab testdriven.net.

Like the previous person said pick a mocking framework, my favourite at the moment is Moq.

How do I use Assert.Throws to assert the type of the exception?

I recently ran into the same thing, and suggest this function for MSTest:

public bool AssertThrows(Action action) where T : Exception
{
    try {action();
}
catch(Exception exception)
{
    if (exception.GetType() == typeof(T))
        return true;
}
    return false;
}

Usage:

Assert.IsTrue(AssertThrows<FormatException>(delegate{ newMyMethod(MyParameter); }));

There is more in Assert that a particular exception has occured (Assert.Throws in MSTest).

How can we run a test method with multiple parameters in MSTest?

MSTest does not support that feature, but you can implement your own attribute to achieve that.

Have a look at Enabling parameterized tests in MSTest using PostSharp.

NUnit Unit tests not showing in Test Explorer with Test Adapter installed

Make sure your tests are properly marked with the Test attribute. If all of the tests are marked with only the Explicit attribute, the TestAdapter doesn't recognize the fixture.

How can I run NUnit tests in Visual Studio 2017?

  • You have to choose the processor architecture of unit tests in Visual Studio: menu Test ? Test Settings ? Default processor architecture

  • Test Adapter has to be open to see the tests: (Visual Studio e.g.: menu Test ? Windows ? Test Explorer

Additional information what's going on, you can consider at the Visual Studio 'Output-Window' and choose the dropdown 'Show output from' and set 'Tests'.

How to get current language code with Swift?

Swift 3 & 4 & 4.2 & 5

Locale.current.languageCode does not compile regularly. Because you did not implemented localization for your project.

You have two possible solutions

1) String(Locale.preferredLanguages[0].prefix(2)) It returns phone lang properly.

If you want to get the type en-En, you can use Locale.preferredLanguages[0]

2) Select Project(MyApp)->Project (not Target)-> press + button into Localizations, then add language which you want.

How to convert a String to CharSequence?

CharSequence is an interface and String is its one of the implementations other than StringBuilder, StringBuffer and many other.

So, just as you use InterfaceName i = new ItsImplementation(), you can use CharSequence cs = new String("string") or simply CharSequence cs = "string";

SQL Server: combining multiple rows into one row

I believe for databases which support listagg function, you can do:

select id, issue, customfield, parentkey, listagg(stingvalue, ',') within group (order by id)
from jira.customfieldvalue
where customfield = 12534 and issue = 19602
group by id, issue, customfield, parentkey

Increase max execution time for php

There's probably a limit set in your webserver. Some browsers/proxies will also implement a timeout. Invoking long running processes via an HTTP request is just plain silly. The right way to solve the problem (assuming you can't make the processing any faster) is to use the HTTP request to trigger processing outside of the webserver session group then poll the status via HTTP until you've got a result set.

Improve subplot size/spacing with many subplots in matplotlib

Similar to tight_layout matplotlib now (as of version 2.2) provides constrained_layout. In contrast to tight_layout, which may be called any time in the code for a single optimized layout, constrained_layout is a property, which may be active and will optimze the layout before every drawing step.

Hence it needs to be activated before or during subplot creation, such as figure(constrained_layout=True) or subplots(constrained_layout=True).

Example:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig, axes = plt.subplots(4,4, constrained_layout=True)

plt.show()

enter image description here

constrained_layout may as well be set via rcParams

plt.rcParams['figure.constrained_layout.use'] = True

See the what's new entry and the Constrained Layout Guide

Get a Div Value in JQuery

You could use

jQuery('#gregsButton').click(function() {
    var mb = jQuery('#myDiv').text();
    alert("Value of div is: " + mb);
});

Looks like there may be a conflict with using the $. Remember that the variable 'mb' will not be accessible outside of the event handler. Also, the text() function returns a string, no need to get mb.value.

how to clear localstorage,sessionStorage and cookies in javascript? and then retrieve?

There is no way to retrieve localStorage, sessionStorage or cookie values via javascript in the browser after they've been deleted via javascript.

If what you're really asking is if there is some other way (from outside the browser) to recover that data, that's a different question and the answer will entirely depend upon the specific browser and how it implements the storage of each of those types of data.

For example, Firefox stores cookies as individual files. When a cookie is deleted, its file is deleted. That means that the cookie can no longer be accessed via the browser. But, we know that from outside the browser, using system tools, the contents of deleted files can sometimes be retrieved.

If you wanted to look into this further, you'd have to discover how each browser stores each data type on each platform of interest and then explore if that type of storage has any recovery strategy.

How to change resolution (DPI) of an image?

It's simply a matter of scaling the image width and height up by the correct ratio. Not all images formats support a DPI metatag, and when they do, all they're telling your graphics software to do is divide the image by the ratio supplied.

For example, if you export a 300dpi image from Photoshop to a JPEG, the image will appear to be very large when viewed in your picture viewing software. This is because the DPI information isn't supported in JPEG and is discarded when saved. This means your picture viewer doesn't know what ratio to divide the image by and instead displays the image at at 1:1 ratio.

To get the ratio you need to scale the image by, see the code below. Just remember, this will stretch the image, just like it would in Photoshop. You're essentially quadrupling the size of the image so it's going to stretch and may produce artifacts.

Pseudo code

ratio = 300.0 / 72.0   // 4.167
image.width * ratio
image.height * ratio

How to "log in" to a website using Python's Requests module?

Find out the name of the inputs used on the websites form for usernames <...name=username.../> and passwords <...name=password../> and replace them in the script below. Also replace the URL to point at the desired site to log into.

login.py

#!/usr/bin/env python

import requests
from requests.packages.urllib3.exceptions import InsecureRequestWarning
requests.packages.urllib3.disable_warnings(InsecureRequestWarning)
payload = { 'username': '[email protected]', 'password': 'blahblahsecretpassw0rd' }
url = 'https://website.com/login.html'
requests.post(url, data=payload, verify=False)

The use of disable_warnings(InsecureRequestWarning) will silence any output from the script when trying to log into sites with unverified SSL certificates.

Extra:

To run this script from the command line on a UNIX based system place it in a directory, i.e. home/scripts and add this directory to your path in ~/.bash_profile or a similar file used by the terminal.

# Custom scripts
export CUSTOM_SCRIPTS=home/scripts
export PATH=$CUSTOM_SCRIPTS:$PATH

Then create a link to this python script inside home/scripts/login.py

ln -s ~/home/scripts/login.py ~/home/scripts/login

Close your terminal, start a new one, run login

How can I generate Unix timestamps?

$ date +%s.%N

where (GNU Coreutils 8.24 Date manual)

  • +%s, seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC
  • +%N, nanoseconds (000000000..999999999) since epoch

Example output now 1454000043.704350695. I noticed that BSD manual of date did not include precise explanation about the flag +%s.

Referencing another schema in Mongoose

It sounds like the populate method is what your looking for. First make small change to your post schema:

var postSchema = new Schema({
    name: String,
    postedBy: {type: mongoose.Schema.Types.ObjectId, ref: 'User'},
    dateCreated: Date,
    comments: [{body:"string", by: mongoose.Schema.Types.ObjectId}],
});

Then make your model:

var Post = mongoose.model('Post', postSchema);

Then, when you make your query, you can populate references like this:

Post.findOne({_id: 123})
.populate('postedBy')
.exec(function(err, post) {
    // do stuff with post
});

Swapping two variable value without using third variable

Swapping two numbers using third variable be like this,

int temp;
int a=10;
int b=20;
temp = a;
a = b;
b = temp;
printf ("Value of a", %a);
printf ("Value of b", %b);

Swapping two numbers without using third variable

int a = 10;
int b = 20;
a = a+b;
b = a-b;
a = a-b;
printf ("value of a=", %a);
printf ("value of b=", %b);

TypeError: $(...).modal is not a function with bootstrap Modal

In my experience, most probably its happened with jquery version(using multiple version) conflicts, for sort out the issue we can use a no-conflict method like below.

jQuery.noConflict();
(function( $ ) {
  $(function() {
    // More code using $ as alias to jQuery
    $('button').click(function(){
        $('#modalID').modal('show');
    });
  });
})(jQuery);

Tesseract OCR simple example

Ok. I found the solution here tessnet2 fails to load the Ans given by Adam

Apparently i was using wrong version of tessdata. I was following the the source page instruction intuitively and that caused the problem.

it says

Quick Tessnet2 usage

  1. Download binary here, add a reference of the assembly Tessnet2.dll to your .NET project.

  2. Download language data definition file here and put it in tessdata directory. Tessdata directory and your exe must be in the same directory.

After you download the binary, when you follow the link to download the language file, there are many language files. but none of them are right version. you need to select all version and go to next page for correct version (tesseract-2.00.eng)! They should either update download binary link to version 3 or put the the version 2 language file on the first page. Or at least bold mention the fact that this version issue is a big deal!

Anyway I found it. Thanks everyone.

Checking if a SQL Server login already exists

As a minor addition to this thread, in general you want to avoid using the views that begin with sys.sys* as Microsoft is only including them for backwards compatibility. For your code, you should probably use sys.server_principals. This is assuming you are using SQL 2005 or greater.

how to properly display an iFrame in mobile safari

Yeah, you can't constrain the iframe itself with height and width. You should put a div around it. If you control the content in the iframe, you can put some JS within the iframe content that will tell the parent to scroll the div when the touch event is received.

like this:

The JS:

setTimeout(function () {
var startY = 0;
var startX = 0;
var b = document.body;
b.addEventListener('touchstart', function (event) {
    parent.window.scrollTo(0, 1);
    startY = event.targetTouches[0].pageY;
    startX = event.targetTouches[0].pageX;
});
b.addEventListener('touchmove', function (event) {
    event.preventDefault();
    var posy = event.targetTouches[0].pageY;
    var h = parent.document.getElementById("scroller");
    var sty = h.scrollTop;

    var posx = event.targetTouches[0].pageX;
    var stx = h.scrollLeft;
    h.scrollTop = sty - (posy - startY);
    h.scrollLeft = stx - (posx - startX);
    startY = posy;
    startX = posx;
});
}, 1000);

The HTML:

<div id="scroller" style="height: 400px; width: 100%; overflow: auto;">
<iframe height="100%" id="iframe" scrolling="no" width="100%" id="iframe" src="url" />
</div>

If you don't control the iframe content, you can use an overlay over the iframe in a similar manner, but then you can't interact with the iframe contents other than to scroll it - so you can't, for example, click links in the iframe.

It used to be that you could use two fingers to scroll within an iframe, but that doesn't work anymore.

Update: iOS 6 broke this solution for us. I've been attempting to get a new fix for it, but nothing has worked yet. In addition, it is no longer possible to debug javascript on the device since they introduced Remote Web Inspector, which requires a Mac to use.

How to change language of app when user selects language?

You should either remove android:configChanges="locale" from manifest, which will cause activity to reload, or override onConfigurationChanged method:

@Override
public void onConfigurationChanged(Configuration newConfig) {
super.onConfigurationChanged(newConfig);
    // your code here, you can use newConfig.locale if you need to check the language
    // or just re-set all the labels to desired string resource
}

What is the correct way to free memory in C#

As Brian points out the GC can collect anything that is unreachable including objects that are still in scope and even while instance methods of those objects are still executing. consider the following code:

class foo
{
    static int liveFooInstances;

    public foo()
    {
        Interlocked.Increment(ref foo.liveFooInstances);
    }

    public void TestMethod()
    {
        Console.WriteLine("entering method");
        while (Interlocked.CompareExchange(ref foo.liveFooInstances, 1, 1) == 1)
        {
            Console.WriteLine("running GC.Collect");
            GC.Collect();
            GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers();
        }
        Console.WriteLine("exiting method");
    }

    ~foo()
    {
        Console.WriteLine("in ~foo");
        Interlocked.Decrement(ref foo.liveFooInstances);
    }

}

class Program
{

    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        foo aFoo = new foo();
        aFoo.TestMethod();
        //Console.WriteLine(aFoo.ToString()); // if this line is uncommented TestMethod will never return
    }
}

if run with a debug build, with the debugger attached, or with the specified line uncommented TestMethod will never return. But running without a debugger attached TestMethod will return.

How to Convert UTC Date To Local time Zone in MySql Select Query

In my case, where the timezones are not available on the server, this works great:

SELECT CONVERT_TZ(`date_field`,'+00:00',@@global.time_zone) FROM `table`

Note: global.time_zone uses the server timezone. You have to make sure, that it has the desired timezone!

How to use WinForms progress bar?

Hey there's a useful tutorial on Dot Net pearls: http://www.dotnetperls.com/progressbar

In agreement with Peter, you need to use some amount of threading or the program will just hang, somewhat defeating the purpose.

Example that uses ProgressBar and BackgroundWorker: C#

using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Threading;
using System.Windows.Forms;

namespace WindowsFormsApplication1
{
    public partial class Form1 : Form
    {
        public Form1()
        {
            InitializeComponent();
        }

        private void Form1_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
        {
            // Start the BackgroundWorker.
            backgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync();
        }

        private void backgroundWorker1_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)
        {
            for (int i = 1; i <= 100; i++)
            {
                // Wait 100 milliseconds.
                Thread.Sleep(100);
                // Report progress.
                backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(i);
            }
        }

        private void backgroundWorker1_ProgressChanged(object sender, ProgressChangedEventArgs e)
        {
            // Change the value of the ProgressBar to the BackgroundWorker progress.
            progressBar1.Value = e.ProgressPercentage;
            // Set the text.
            this.Text = e.ProgressPercentage.ToString();
        }
    }
} //closing here

Kubernetes pod gets recreated when deleted

The root cause for the question asked was the deployment/job/replicasets spec attribute strategy->type which defines what should happen when the pod will be destroyed (either implicitly or explicitly). In my case, it was Recreate.

As per @nomad's answer, deleting the deployment/job/replicasets is the simple fix to avoid experimenting with deadly combos before messing up the cluster as a novice user.

Try the following commands to understand the behind the scene actions before jumping into debugging :

kubectl get all -A -o name
kubectl get events -A | grep <pod-name>

Counting the number of occurences of characters in a string

public class StringTest{
public static void main(String[] args){

    String s ="aaabbbbccccccdd";
    String result="";
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(s);

    while(sb.length() != 0){
        int count = 0;
        char test = sb.charAt(0);
        while(sb.indexOf(test+"") != -1){
            sb.deleteCharAt(sb.indexOf(test+""));
            count++;
        }
        //System.out.println(test+" is repeated "+count+" number of times");
        result=result+test+count;
    }
    System.out.println(result);
}
}

Loop through the rows of a particular DataTable

Here's the best way I found:

    For Each row As DataRow In your_table.Rows
        For Each cell As String In row.ItemArray
            'do what you want!
        Next
    Next

count number of rows in a data frame in R based on group

Try using the count function in dplyr:

library(dplyr)
dat1_frame %>%
    count(MONTH.YEAR)

I am not sure how you got MONTH-YEAR as a variable name. My R version does not allow for such a variable name, so I replaced it with MONTH.YEAR.

As a side note, the mistake in your code was that dat1_frame %.% group_by(MONTH-YEAR) without a summarise function returns the original data frame without any modifications. So, you want to use

dat1_frame %>%
    group_by(MONTH.YEAR) %>%
    summarise(count=n())

How to implement Enums in Ruby?

The most idiomatic way to do this is to use symbols. For example, instead of:

enum {
  FOO,
  BAR,
  BAZ
}

myFunc(FOO);

...you can just use symbols:

# You don't actually need to declare these, of course--this is
# just to show you what symbols look like.
:foo
:bar
:baz

my_func(:foo)

This is a bit more open-ended than enums, but it fits well with the Ruby spirit.

Symbols also perform very well. Comparing two symbols for equality, for example, is much faster than comparing two strings.

Effective way to find any file's Encoding

The following codes are my Powershell codes to determinate if some cpp or h or ml files are encodeding with ISO-8859-1(Latin-1) or UTF-8 without BOM, if neither then suppose it to be GB18030. I am a Chinese working in France and MSVC saves as Latin-1 on french computer and saves as GB on Chinese computer so this helps me avoid encoding problem when do source file exchanges between my system and my colleagues.

The way is simple, if all characters are between x00-x7E, ASCII, UTF-8 and Latin-1 are all the same, but if I read a non ASCII file by UTF-8, we will find the special character ? show up, so try to read with Latin-1. In Latin-1, between \x7F and \xAF is empty, while GB uses full between x00-xFF so if I got any between the two, it's not Latin-1

The code is written in PowerShell, but uses .net so it's easy to be translated into C# or F#

$Utf8NoBomEncoding = New-Object System.Text.UTF8Encoding($False)
foreach($i in Get-ChildItem .\ -Recurse -include *.cpp,*.h, *.ml) {
    $openUTF = New-Object System.IO.StreamReader -ArgumentList ($i, [Text.Encoding]::UTF8)
    $contentUTF = $openUTF.ReadToEnd()
    [regex]$regex = '?'
    $c=$regex.Matches($contentUTF).count
    $openUTF.Close()
    if ($c -ne 0) {
        $openLatin1 = New-Object System.IO.StreamReader -ArgumentList ($i, [Text.Encoding]::GetEncoding('ISO-8859-1'))
        $contentLatin1 = $openLatin1.ReadToEnd()
        $openLatin1.Close()
        [regex]$regex = '[\x7F-\xAF]'
        $c=$regex.Matches($contentLatin1).count
        if ($c -eq 0) {
            [System.IO.File]::WriteAllLines($i, $contentLatin1, $Utf8NoBomEncoding)
            $i.FullName
        }
        else {
            $openGB = New-Object System.IO.StreamReader -ArgumentList ($i, [Text.Encoding]::GetEncoding('GB18030'))
            $contentGB = $openGB.ReadToEnd()
            $openGB.Close()
            [System.IO.File]::WriteAllLines($i, $contentGB, $Utf8NoBomEncoding)

Input text dialog Android

If you want some space at left and right of input view, you can add some padding like

private fun showAlertWithTextInputLayout(context: Context) {
    val textInputLayout = TextInputLayout(context)
    textInputLayout.setPadding(
        resources.getDimensionPixelOffset(R.dimen.dp_19), // if you look at android alert_dialog.xml, you will see the message textview have margin 14dp and padding 5dp. This is the reason why I use 19 here
        0,
        resources.getDimensionPixelOffset(R.dimen.dp_19),
        0
    )
    val input = EditText(context)
    textInputLayout.hint = "Email"
    textInputLayout.addView(input)

    val alert = AlertDialog.Builder(context)
        .setTitle("Reset Password")
        .setView(textInputLayout)
        .setMessage("Please enter your email address")
        .setPositiveButton("Submit") { dialog, _ ->
            // do some thing with input.text
            dialog.cancel()
        }
        .setNegativeButton("Cancel") { dialog, _ ->
            dialog.cancel()
        }.create()

    alert.show()
}

How to test an SQL Update statement before running it?

In addition to using a transaction as Imad has said (which should be mandatory anyway) you can also do a sanity check which rows are affected by running a select using the same WHERE clause as the UPDATE.

So if you UPDATE is

UPDATE foo
  SET bar = 42
WHERE col1 = 1
  AND col2 = 'foobar';

The following will show you which rows will be updated:

SELECT *
FROM foo
WHERE col1 = 1
  AND col2 = 'foobar';

Get gateway ip address in android

Install terminal emulator app, then to see routing table run iproute from the command prompt. Does not require root permissions. I don't know how to get the DNS server. There's no /etc/resolv.conf file. You can try nslookup www.google.com and see what it reports for your server, but on my phone it reports 0.0.0.0 which isn't too helpful.

C++, What does the colon after a constructor mean?

As others have said, it's an initialisation list. You can use it for two things:

  1. Calling base class constructors
  2. Initialising member variables before the body of the constructor executes.

For case #1, I assume you understand inheritance (if that's not the case, let me know in the comments). So you are simply calling the constructor of your base class.

For case #2, the question may be asked: "Why not just initialise it in the body of the constructor?" The importance of the initialisation lists is particularly evident for const members. For instance, take a look at this situation, where I want to initialise m_val based on the constructor parameter:

class Demo
{
    Demo(int& val)
     {
         m_val = val;
     }
private:
    const int& m_val;
};

By the C++ specification, this is illegal. We cannot change the value of a const variable in the constructor, because it is marked as const. So you can use the initialisation list:

class Demo
{
    Demo(int& val) : m_val(val)
     {
     }
private:
    const int& m_val;
};

That is the only time that you can change a const member variable. And as Michael noted in the comments section, it is also the only way to initialise a reference that is a class member.

Outside of using it to initialise const member variables, it seems to have been generally accepted as "the way" of initialising variables, so it's clear to other programmers reading your code.

delete vs delete[] operators in C++

When I asked this question, my real question was, "is there a difference between the two? Doesn't the runtime have to keep information about the array size, and so will it not be able to tell which one we mean?" This question does not appear in "related questions", so just to help out those like me, here is the answer to that: "why do we even need the delete[] operator?"

VBA using ubound on a multidimensional array

You need to deal with the optional Rank parameter of UBound.

Dim arr(1 To 4, 1 To 3) As Variant
Debug.Print UBound(arr, 1)  '? returns 4
Debug.Print UBound(arr, 2)  '? returns 3

Is there a simple way to remove multiple spaces in a string?

I have my simple method which I have used in college.

line = "I     have            a       nice    day."

end = 1000
while end != 0:
    line.replace("  ", " ")
    end -= 1

This will replace every double space with a single space and will do it 1000 times. It means you can have 2000 extra spaces and will still work. :)

Setting device orientation in Swift iOS

Two suggestions with @Vivek Parihar's solution :

  1. If we are presenting any viewController we should check nil for “visibleViewController” in navigationController extension

    extension UINavigationController {
    public override func shouldAutorotate() -> Bool {
        var shouldAutorotate = false
        if visibleViewController != nil {
            shouldAutorotate = visibleViewController.shouldAutorotate()
        }
        return shouldAutorotate
    }

    public override func supportedInterfaceOrientations() -> Int {
        return visibleViewController.supportedInterfaceOrientations()
    }
    }

  2. If We are using any action sheet to present and user will rotate upsideDown, Your action sheet will open from top edge of the screen :P, to solve this, we should take Portrait only

    override func shouldAutorotate() -> Bool {
    if (UIDevice.currentDevice().orientation == UIDeviceOrientation.Portrait ||
        UIDevice.currentDevice().orientation == UIDeviceOrientation.Unknown) {
            return true
    }
    else {
        return false
    }

    }

    override func supportedInterfaceOrientations() -> Int {
        return Int(UIInterfaceOrientationMask.Portrait.rawValue)
    }

What are the rules for JavaScript's automatic semicolon insertion (ASI)?

Regarding semicolon insertion and the var statement, beware forgetting the comma when using var but spanning multiple lines. Somebody found this in my code yesterday:

    var srcRecords = src.records
        srcIds = [];

It ran but the effect was that the srcIds declaration/assignment was global because the local declaration with var on the previous line no longer applied as that statement was considered finished due to automatic semi-colon insertion.

VBA Print to PDF and Save with Automatic File Name

Hopefully this is self explanatory enough. Use the comments in the code to help understand what is happening. Pass a single cell to this function. The value of that cell will be the base file name. If the cell contains "AwesomeData" then we will try and create a file in the current users desktop called AwesomeData.pdf. If that already exists then try AwesomeData2.pdf and so on. In your code you could just replace the lines filename = Application..... with filename = GetFileName(Range("A1"))

Function GetFileName(rngNamedCell As Range) As String
    Dim strSaveDirectory As String: strSaveDirectory = ""
    Dim strFileName As String: strFileName = ""
    Dim strTestPath As String: strTestPath = ""
    Dim strFileBaseName As String: strFileBaseName = ""
    Dim strFilePath As String: strFilePath = ""
    Dim intFileCounterIndex As Integer: intFileCounterIndex = 1

    ' Get the users desktop directory.
    strSaveDirectory = Environ("USERPROFILE") & "\Desktop\"
    Debug.Print "Saving to: " & strSaveDirectory

    ' Base file name
    strFileBaseName = Trim(rngNamedCell.Value)
    Debug.Print "File Name will contain: " & strFileBaseName

    ' Loop until we find a free file number
    Do
        If intFileCounterIndex > 1 Then
            ' Build test path base on current counter exists.
            strTestPath = strSaveDirectory & strFileBaseName & Trim(Str(intFileCounterIndex)) & ".pdf"
        Else
            ' Build test path base just on base name to see if it exists.
            strTestPath = strSaveDirectory & strFileBaseName & ".pdf"
        End If

        If (Dir(strTestPath) = "") Then
            ' This file path does not currently exist. Use that.
            strFileName = strTestPath
        Else
            ' Increase the counter as we have not found a free file yet.
            intFileCounterIndex = intFileCounterIndex + 1
        End If

    Loop Until strFileName <> ""

    ' Found useable filename
    Debug.Print "Free file name: " & strFileName
    GetFileName = strFileName

End Function

The debug lines will help you figure out what is happening if you need to step through the code. Remove them as you see fit. I went a little crazy with the variables but it was to make this as clear as possible.

In Action

My cell O1 contained the string "FileName" without the quotes. Used this sub to call my function and it saved a file.

Sub Testing()
    Dim filename As String: filename = GetFileName(Range("o1"))

    ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:N24").ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, _
                                              filename:=filename, _
                                              Quality:=xlQualityStandard, _
                                              IncludeDocProperties:=True, _
                                              IgnorePrintAreas:=False, _
                                              OpenAfterPublish:=False
End Sub

Where is your code located in reference to everything else? Perhaps you need to make a module if you have not already and move your existing code into there.

How can I count the rows with data in an Excel sheet?

You should use the sumif function in Excel:

=SUMIF(A5:C10;"Text_to_find";C5:C10)

This function takes a range like this square A5:C10 then you have some text to find this text can be in A or B then it will add the number from the C-row.

Why should a Java class implement comparable?

OK, but why not just define a compareTo() method without implementing comparable interface. For example a class City defined by its name and temperature and

public int compareTo(City theOther)
{
    if (this.temperature < theOther.temperature)
        return -1;
    else if (this.temperature > theOther.temperature)
        return 1;
    else
        return 0;
}

Should I use alias or alias_method?

A point in favor of alias instead of alias_method is that its semantic is recognized by rdoc, leading to neat cross references in the generated documentation, while rdoc completely ignore alias_method.

Validation to check if password and confirm password are same is not working

I presume you've got validate_required() function from this page: http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_form_validation.asp?

function validate_required(field,alerttxt)
{
with (field)
  {
  if (value==null||value=="")
    {
    alert(alerttxt);return false;
    }
  else
    {
    return true;
    }
  }
}

In this case your last condition will not work as you expect it.

You can replace it with this:

if (password.value != cpassword.value) {
   alert("Your password and confirmation password do not match.");
   cpassword.focus();
   return false;
}

Json.net serialize/deserialize derived types?

Since the question is so popular, it may be useful to add on what to do if you want to control the type property name and its value.

The long way is to write custom JsonConverters to handle (de)serialization by manually checking and setting the type property.

A simpler way is to use JsonSubTypes, which handles all the boilerplate via attributes:

[JsonConverter(typeof(JsonSubtypes), "Sound")]
[JsonSubtypes.KnownSubType(typeof(Dog), "Bark")]
[JsonSubtypes.KnownSubType(typeof(Cat), "Meow")]
public class Animal
{
    public virtual string Sound { get; }
    public string Color { get; set; }
}

public class Dog : Animal
{
    public override string Sound { get; } = "Bark";
    public string Breed { get; set; }
}

public class Cat : Animal
{
    public override string Sound { get; } = "Meow";
    public bool Declawed { get; set; }
}

Can I use VARCHAR as the PRIMARY KEY?

It is ok for sure. With just few hundred of entries, it will be fast.

You can add an unique id as as primary key (int autoincrement) ans set your coupon_code as unique. So if you need to do request in other tables it's better to use int than varchar

Change bundle identifier in Xcode when submitting my first app in IOS

A very simple solution to that is to open the file:

YOURPROJECT.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj

And find for this variable:

PRODUCT_BUNDLE_IDENTIFIER

You'll see something like that:

PRODUCT_BUNDLE_IDENTIFIER = com.YOUR_APP_NAME.SOMETHING;

So, the name on the right is your Bundle Identifier. In my case it works perfectly.

How do MySQL indexes work?

The first thing you must know is that indexes are a way to avoid scanning the full table to obtain the result that you're looking for.

There are different kinds of indexes and they're implemented in the storage layer, so there's no standard between them and they also depend on the storage engine that you're using.

InnoDB and the B+Tree index

For InnoDB, the most common index type is the B+Tree based index, that stores the elements in a sorted order. Also, you don't have to access the real table to get the indexed values, which makes your query return way faster.

The "problem" about this index type is that you have to query for the leftmost value to use the index. So, if your index has two columns, say last_name and first_name, the order that you query these fields matters a lot.

So, given the following table:

CREATE TABLE person (
    last_name VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL,
    first_name VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL,
    INDEX (last_name, first_name)
);

This query would take advantage of the index:

SELECT last_name, first_name FROM person
WHERE last_name = "John" AND first_name LIKE "J%"

But the following one would not

SELECT last_name, first_name FROM person WHERE first_name = "Constantine"

Because you're querying the first_name column first and it's not the leftmost column in the index.

This last example is even worse:

SELECT last_name, first_name FROM person WHERE first_name LIKE "%Constantine"

Because now, you're comparing the rightmost part of the rightmost field in the index.

The hash index

This is a different index type that unfortunately, only the memory backend supports. It's lightning fast but only useful for full lookups, which means that you can't use it for operations like >, < or LIKE.

Since it only works for the memory backend, you probably won't use it very often. The main case I can think of right now is the one that you create a temporary table in the memory with a set of results from another select and perform a lot of other selects in this temporary table using hash indexes.

If you have a big VARCHAR field, you can "emulate" the use of a hash index when using a B-Tree, by creating another column and saving a hash of the big value on it. Let's say you're storing a url in a field and the values are quite big. You could also create an integer field called url_hash and use a hash function like CRC32 or any other hash function to hash the url when inserting it. And then, when you need to query for this value, you can do something like this:

SELECT url FROM url_table WHERE url_hash=CRC32("http://gnu.org");

The problem with the above example is that since the CRC32 function generates a quite small hash, you'll end up with a lot of collisions in the hashed values. If you need exact values, you can fix this problem by doing the following:

SELECT url FROM url_table
WHERE url_hash=CRC32("http://gnu.org") AND url="http://gnu.org";

It's still worth to hash things even if the collision number is high cause you'll only perform the second comparison (the string one) against the repeated hashes.

Unfortunately, using this technique, you still need to hit the table to compare the url field.

Wrap up

Some facts that you may consider every time you want to talk about optimization:

  1. Integer comparison is way faster than string comparison. It can be illustrated with the example about the emulation of the hash index in InnoDB.

  2. Maybe, adding additional steps in a process makes it faster, not slower. It can be illustrated by the fact that you can optimize a SELECT by splitting it into two steps, making the first one store values in a newly created in-memory table, and then execute the heavier queries on this second table.

MySQL has other indexes too, but I think the B+Tree one is the most used ever and the hash one is a good thing to know, but you can find the other ones in the MySQL documentation.

I highly recommend you to read the "High Performance MySQL" book, the answer above was definitely based on its chapter about indexes.

How to test web service using command line curl

In addition to existing answers it is often desired to format the REST output (typically JSON and XML lacks indentation). Try this:

$ curl https://api.twitter.com/1/help/configuration.xml  | xmllint --format -
$ curl https://api.twitter.com/1/help/configuration.json | python -mjson.tool

Tested on Ubuntu 11.0.4/11.10.

Another issue is the desired content type. Twitter uses .xml/.json extension, but more idiomatic REST would require Accept header:

$ curl -H "Accept: application/json"

How do I compile the asm generated by GCC?

Yes, You can use gcc to compile your asm code. Use -c for compilation like this:

gcc -c file.S -o file.o

This will give object code file named file.o. To invoke linker perform following after above command:

gcc file.o -o file

Storyboard doesn't contain a view controller with identifier

Just for future reference:

I'm developing on iOS 6 using Storyboards.

I was having the same issue, but I could not find the "Identifier" field in the inspector. Instead, just set the field named "Storyboard ID" to what you would name the Identifier. This field can be found under the "Show the Identity inspector" tab in the inspector.

[Note - comments below indicate that some people have found that they need to (also?) set the field "Restoration ID" just below the Storyboard ID in the inspector. Clicking on "Use Storyboard ID" does not seem to be enough.]

There's an image below for reference: (in this instance I've named my identifier the same as my class) enter image description here

javascript: optional first argument in function

There is a nice read on Default parameters in ES6 on the MDN website here.
In ES6 you can now do the following:

secondDefaultValue = 'indirectSecondDefaultValue';

function MyObject( param1 = 'firstDefaultValue', param2 = secondDefaultValue ){
    this.first = param1;
    this.second = param2;
}

You can use this also as follows:

var object = new MyObject( undefined, options );

Which will set default value 'firstDefaultValue' for first param1 and your options for second param2.

Creating a REST API using PHP

Trying to write a REST API from scratch is not a simple task. There are many issues to factor and you will need to write a lot of code to process requests and data coming from the caller, authentication, retrieval of data and sending back responses.

Your best bet is to use a framework that already has this functionality ready and tested for you.

Some suggestions are:

Phalcon - REST API building - Easy to use all in one framework with huge performance

Apigility - A one size fits all API handling framework by Zend Technologies

Laravel API Building Tutorial

and many more. Simple searches on Bitbucket/Github will give you a lot of resources to start with.

ionic 2 - Error Could not find an installed version of Gradle either in Android Studio

just install android studio and select your sdk folder as a android studio's sdk default folder and then android studio repair all the damage area and download needed files.

How do I view the Explain Plan in Oracle Sql developer?

EXPLAIN PLAN FOR

In SQL Developer, you don't have to use EXPLAIN PLAN FOR statement. Press F10 or click the Explain Plan icon.

enter image description here

It will be then displayed in the Explain Plan window.

If you are using SQL*Plus then use DBMS_XPLAN.

For example,

SQL> EXPLAIN PLAN FOR
  2  SELECT * FROM DUAL;

Explained.

SQL> SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);

Giving height to table and row in Bootstrap

What worked for me was adding a div around the content. Originally i had this. Css applied to the td had no effect.

        <td>
             @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Message)
        </td>

Then I wrapped the content in a div and the css worked as expected

       <td>
            <div class="largeContent">
                @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Message)
            </div>
        </td>

HTTP response header content disposition for attachments

Problems

The code has the following issues:

  • An Ajax call (<a4j:commandButton .../>) does not work with attachments.
  • Creating the output content must happen first.
  • Displaying the error messages also cannot use Ajax-based a4j tags.

Solution

  1. Change <a4j:commandButton .../> to <h:commandButton .../>.
  2. Update the source code:
    1. Change bw.write( getDomainDocument() ); to bw.write( document );.
    2. Add String document = getDomainDocument(); to the first line of the try/catch.
  3. Change the <a4j:outputPanel.../> (not shown) to <h:messages showDetail="false"/>.

Essentially, remove all the Ajax facilities related to the commandButton. It is still possible to display error messages and leverage the RichFaces UI style.

The easiest way would be to make use of the GROUP_CONCAT group function here..

select
  ordered_item.id as `Id`,
  ordered_item.Item_Name as `ItemName`,
  GROUP_CONCAT(Ordered_Options.Value) as `Options`
from
  ordered_item,
  ordered_options
where
  ordered_item.id=ordered_options.ordered_item_id
group by
  ordered_item.id

Which would output:

Id              ItemName       Options

1               Pizza          Pepperoni,Extra Cheese

2               Stromboli      Extra Cheese

That way you can have as many options as you want without having to modify your query.

Ah, if you see your results getting cropped, you can increase the size limit of GROUP_CONCAT like this:

SET SESSION group_concat_max_len = 8192;

MongoDB: exception in initAndListen: 20 Attempted to create a lock file on a read-only directory: /data/db, terminating

If your system is using SELinux, make sure that you use the right context for the directory you created:

ls -dZ /var/lib/mongo/

and clone the context with:

Trying to get the average of a count resultset

You just can put your query as a subquery:

SELECT avg(count)
  FROM
    (
    SELECT COUNT (*) AS Count
      FROM Table T
     WHERE T.Update_time =
               (SELECT MAX (B.Update_time )
                  FROM Table B
                 WHERE (B.Id = T.Id))
    GROUP BY T.Grouping
    ) as counts

Edit: I think this should be the same:

SELECT count(*) / count(distinct T.Grouping)
  FROM Table T
 WHERE T.Update_time =
           (SELECT MAX (B.Update_time)
              FROM Table B
             WHERE (B.Id = T.Id))

Connect different Windows User in SQL Server Management Studio (2005 or later)

There are many places where someone might want to deploy this kind of scenario, but due to the way integrated authentication works, it is not possible.

As gbn mentioned, integrated authentication uses a special token that corresponds to your Windows identity. There are coding practices called "impersonation" (probably used by the Run As... command) that allow you to effectively perform an activity as another Windows user, but there is not really a way to arbitrarily act as a different user (à la Linux) in Windows applications aside from that.

If you really need to administer multiple servers across several domains, you might consider one of the following:

  1. Set up Domain Trust between your domains so that your account can access computers in the trusting domain
  2. Configure a SQL user (using mixed authentication) across all the servers you need to administer so that you can log in that way; obviously, this might introduce some security issues and create a maintenance nightmare if you have to change all the passwords at some point.

Hopefully this helps!

Truncate all tables in a MySQL database in one command?

We can write a bash script like below

truncate_tables_in_mysql() {
    type mysql >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo "MySQL present." || sudo apt-get install -y mysql-client

    tables=$(mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -P $MYSQL_PORT -u $MYSQL_USER  -p$MYSQL_PASSWORD -e "USE $BACKEND_DATABASE;
SHOW TABLES;")
    tables_list=($tables)

    query_string="USE $BACKEND_DATABASE; SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0;"
    for table in "${tables_list[@]:1}"
    do
        query_string="$query_string TRUNCATE TABLE \`$table\`; "
    done
    query_string="$query_string SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 1;"

    mysql -h 127.0.0.1 -P $MYSQL_PORT -u $MYSQL_USER -p$MYSQL_PASSWORD -e "$query_string"
}

You can replace env variables with your MySQL details. Using one command you can truncate all the tables in a DB.

In [32]: %timeit next(os.walk(os.getcwd()))[1]
132 µs ± 9.34 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 10000 loops each)

Collections.sort with multiple fields

I had the same issue and I needed an algorithm using a config file. In This way you can use multiple fields define by a configuration file (simulate just by a List<String) config)

  public static void test() {
    // Associate your configName with your Comparator
    Map<String, Comparator<DocumentDto>> map = new HashMap<>();
    map.put("id", new IdSort());
    map.put("createUser", new DocumentUserSort());
    map.put("documentType", new DocumentTypeSort());
    /**
      In your config.yml file, you'll have something like
      sortlist:
        - documentType
        - createUser
        - id
    */
    List<String> config = new ArrayList<>();
    config.add("documentType");
    config.add("createUser");
    config.add("id");

    List<Comparator<DocumentDto>> sorts = new ArrayList<>();

    for (String comparator : config) {
        sorts.add(map.get(comparator));
    }

    // Begin creation of the list
    DocumentDto d1 = new DocumentDto();
    d1.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d1.getDocumentType().setCode("A");
    d1.setId(1);
    d1.setCreateUser("Djory");

    DocumentDto d2 = new DocumentDto();
    d2.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d2.getDocumentType().setCode("A");
    d2.setId(2);
    d2.setCreateUser("Alex");

    DocumentDto d3 = new DocumentDto();
    d3.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d3.getDocumentType().setCode("A");
    d3.setId(3);
    d3.setCreateUser("Djory");

    DocumentDto d4 = new DocumentDto();
    d4.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d4.getDocumentType().setCode("A");
    d4.setId(4);
    d4.setCreateUser("Alex");

    DocumentDto d5 = new DocumentDto();
    d5.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d5.getDocumentType().setCode("D");
    d5.setId(5);
    d5.setCreateUser("Djory");

    DocumentDto d6 = new DocumentDto();
    d6.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d6.getDocumentType().setCode("B");
    d6.setId(6);
    d6.setCreateUser("Alex");

    DocumentDto d7 = new DocumentDto();
    d7.setDocumentType(new DocumentTypeDto());
    d7.getDocumentType().setCode("B");
    d7.setId(7);
    d7.setCreateUser("Alex");

    List<DocumentDto> documents = new ArrayList<>();

    documents.add(d1);
    documents.add(d2);
    documents.add(d3);
    documents.add(d4);
    documents.add(d5);
    documents.add(d6);
    documents.add(d7);
    // End creation of the list

    // The Sort
    Stream<DocumentDto> docStream = documents.stream();

    // we need to reverse this list in order to sort by documentType first because stream are pull-based, last sorted() will have the priority
    Collections.reverse(sorts);

    for(Comparator<DocumentDto> entitySort : sorts){
        docStream = docStream.sorted(entitySort);
    }
    documents = docStream.collect(Collectors.toList());
    // documents has been sorted has you configured
    // in case of equality second sort will be used.

    System.out.println(documents);

  }

Comparator objects are really simple.

public class IdSort implements Comparator<DocumentDto> {

    @Override
    public int compare(DocumentDto o1, DocumentDto o2) {
        return o1.getId().compareTo(o2.getId());
    }
}
public class DocumentUserSort implements Comparator<DocumentDto> {

    @Override
    public int compare(DocumentDto o1, DocumentDto o2) {
        return o1.getCreateUser().compareTo(o2.getCreateUser());
    }
}
public class DocumentTypeSort implements Comparator<DocumentDto> {

    @Override
    public int compare(DocumentDto o1, DocumentDto o2) {
        return o1.getDocumentType().getCode().compareTo(o2.getDocumentType().getCode());
    }
}

Conclusion : this method isn't has efficient but you can create generic sort using a file configuration in this way.

How to set a single, main title above all the subplots with Pyplot?

If your subplots also have titles, you may need to adjust the main title size:

How do I monitor all incoming http requests?

Use TcpView to see ports listening and connections. This will not give you the requests though.

In order to see requests, you need reverse of a proxy which I do not know of any such tools.

Use tracing to give you parts of the requests (first 1KB of the request).

Pretty printing XML in Python

If you have xmllint you can spawn a subprocess and use it. xmllint --format <file> pretty-prints its input XML to standard output.

Note that this method uses an program external to python, which makes it sort of a hack.

def pretty_print_xml(xml):
    proc = subprocess.Popen(
        ['xmllint', '--format', '/dev/stdin'],
        stdin=subprocess.PIPE,
        stdout=subprocess.PIPE,
    )
    (output, error_output) = proc.communicate(xml);
    return output

print(pretty_print_xml(data))

How to specify a min but no max decimal using the range data annotation attribute?

You can use custom validation:

    [CustomValidation(typeof(ValidationMethods), "ValidateGreaterOrEqualToZero")]
    public int IntValue { get; set; }

    [CustomValidation(typeof(ValidationMethods), "ValidateGreaterOrEqualToZero")]
    public decimal DecValue { get; set; }

Validation methods type:

public class ValidationMethods
{
    public static ValidationResult ValidateGreaterOrEqualToZero(decimal value, ValidationContext context)
    {
        bool isValid = true;

        if (value < decimal.Zero)
        {
            isValid = false;
        }

        if (isValid)
        {
            return ValidationResult.Success;
        }
        else
        {
            return new ValidationResult(
                string.Format("The field {0} must be greater than or equal to 0.", context.MemberName),
                new List<string>() { context.MemberName });
        }
    }
}

How can I get System variable value in Java?

Use the System.getenv(String) method, passing the name of the variable to read.

How to quickly clear a JavaScript Object?

You can try this. Function below sets all values of object's properties to undefined. Works as well with nested objects.

var clearObjectValues = (objToClear) => {
    Object.keys(objToClear).forEach((param) => {
        if ( (objToClear[param]).toString() === "[object Object]" ) {
            clearObjectValues(objToClear[param]);
        } else {
            objToClear[param] = undefined;
        }
    })
    return objToClear;
};

How to achieve function overloading in C?

In the sense you mean — no, you cannot.

You can declare a va_arg function like

void my_func(char* format, ...);

, but you'll need to pass some kind of information about number of variables and their types in the first argument — like printf() does.

ini_set("memory_limit") in PHP 5.3.3 is not working at all

Here's a list of things that are worth checking:

Is Suhosin installed?

ini_set

  • The format is important ini_set('memory_limit', '512'); // DIDN'T WORK ini_set('memory_limit', '512MB'); // DIDN'T WORK ini_set('memory_limit', '512M'); // OK - 512MB ini_set('memory_limit', 512000000); // OK - 512MB

When an integer is used, the value is measured in bytes. Shorthand notation, as described in this FAQ, may also be used.

http://php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.memory-limit

  • Has php_admin_value been used in .htaccess or virtualhost files?

Sets the value of the specified directive. This can not be used in .htaccess files. Any directive type set with php_admin_value can not be overridden by .htaccess or ini_set(). To clear a previously set value use none as the value.

Can I get Unix's pthread.h to compile in Windows?

As @Ninefingers mentioned, pthreads are unix-only. Posix only, really.

That said, Microsoft does have a library that duplicates pthreads:

HTML-5 date field shows as "mm/dd/yyyy" in Chrome, even when valid date is set

In chrome to set the value you need to do YYYY-MM-DD i guess because this worked : http://jsfiddle.net/HudMe/6/

So to make it work you need to set the date as 2012-10-01

reStructuredText tool support

Salvaging (and extending) the list from an old version of the Wikipedia page:

Documentation

Implementations

Although the reference implementation of reStructuredText is written in Python, there are reStructuredText parsers in other languages too.

Python - Docutils

The main distribution of reStructuredText is the Python Docutils package. It contains several conversion tools:

  • rst2html - from reStructuredText to HTML
  • rst2xml - from reStructuredText to XML
  • rst2latex - from reStructuredText to LaTeX
  • rst2odt - from reStructuredText to ODF Text (word processor) document.
  • rst2s5 - from reStructuredText to S5, a Simple Standards-based Slide Show System
  • rst2man - from reStructuredText to Man page

Haskell - Pandoc

Pandoc is a Haskell library for converting from one markup format to another, and a command-line tool that uses this library. It can read Markdown and (subsets of) reStructuredText, HTML, and LaTeX, and it can write Markdown, reStructuredText, HTML, LaTeX, ConTeXt, PDF, RTF, DocBook XML, OpenDocument XML, ODT, GNU Texinfo, MediaWiki markup, groff man pages, and S5 HTML slide shows.

There is an Pandoc online tool (POT) to try this library. Unfortunately, compared to the reStructuredText online renderer (ROR),

  • POT truncates input rather more shortly. The POT user must render input in chunks that could be rendered whole by the ROR.
  • POT output lacks the helpful error messages displayed by the ROR (and generated by docutils)

Java - JRst

JRst is a Java reStructuredText parser. It can currently output HTML, XHTML, DocBook xdoc and PDF, BUT seems to have serious problems: neither PDF or (X)HTML generation works using the current full download, result pages in (X)HTML are empty and PDF generation fails on IO problems with XSL files (not bundled??). Note that the original JRst has been removed from the website; a fork is found on GitHub.

Scala - Laika

Laika is a new library for transforming markup languages to other output formats. Currently it supports input from Markdown and reStructuredText and produce HTML output. The library is written in Scala but should be also usable from Java.

Perl

PHP

C#/.NET

Nim/C

The Nim compiler features the commands rst2htmland rst2tex which transform reStructuredText files to HTML and TeX files. The standard library provides the following modules (used by the compiler) to handle reStructuredText files programmatically:

  • rst - implements a reStructuredText parser
  • rstast - implements an AST for the reStructuredText parser
  • rstgen - implements a generator of HTML/Latex from reStructuredText

Other 3rd party converters

Most (but not all) of these tools are based on Docutils (see above) and provide conversion to or from formats that might not be supported by the main distribution.

From reStructuredText

  • restview - This pip-installable python package requires docutils, which does the actual rendering. restview's major ease-of-use feature is that, when you save changes to your document(s), it automagically re-renders and re-displays them. restview
    1. starts a small web server
    2. calls docutils to render your document(s) to HTML
    3. calls your device's browser to display the output HTML.
  • rst2pdf - from reStructuredText to PDF
  • rst2odp - from reStructuredText to ODF Presentation
  • rst2beamer - from reStructuredText to LaTeX beamer Presentation class
  • Wikir - from reStructuredText to a Google (and possibly other) Wiki formats
  • rst2qhc - Convert a collection of reStructuredText files into a Qt (toolkit) Help file and (optional) a Qt Help Project file

To reStructuredText

  • xml2rst is an XSLT script to convert Docutils internal XML representation (back) to reStructuredText
  • Pandoc (see above) can also convert from Markdown, HTML and LaTeX to reStructuredText
  • db2rst is a simple and limited DocBook to reStructuredText translator
  • pod2rst - convert .pod files to reStructuredText files

Extensions

Some projects use reStructuredText as a baseline to build on, or provide extra functionality extending the utility of the reStructuredText tools.

Sphinx

The Sphinx documentation generator translates a set of reStructuredText source files into various output formats, automatically producing cross-references, indices etc.

rest2web

rest2web is a simple tool that lets you build your website from a single template (or as many as you want), and keep the contents in reStructuredText.

Pygments

Pygments is a generic syntax highlighter for general use in all kinds of software such as forum systems, Wikis or other applications that need to prettify source code. See Using Pygments in reStructuredText documents.

Free Editors

While any plain text editor is suitable to write reStructuredText documents, some editors have better support than others.

Emacs

The Emacs support via rst-mode comes as part of the Docutils package under /docutils/tools/editors/emacs/rst.el

Vim

The vim-common package for that comes with most GNU/Linux distributions has reStructuredText syntax highlight and indentation support of reStructuredText out of the box:

Jed

There is a rst mode for the Jed programmers editor.

gedit

gedit, the official text editor of the GNOME desktop environment. There is a gedit reStructuredText plugin.

Geany

Geany, a small and lightweight Integrated Development Environment include support for reStructuredText from version 0.12 (October 10, 2007).

Leo

Leo, an outlining editor for programmers, supports reStructuredText via rst-plugin or via "@auto-rst" nodes (it's not well-documented, but @auto-rst nodes allow editing rst files directly, parsing the structure into the Leo outline).

It also provides a way to preview the resulting HTML, in a "viewrendered" pane.

FTE

The FTE Folding Text Editor - a free (licensed under the GNU GPL) text editor for developers. FTE has a mode for reStructuredText support. It provides color highlighting of basic RSTX elements and special menu that provide easy way to insert most popular RSTX elements to a document.

PyK

PyK is a successor of PyEdit and reStInPeace, written in Python with the help of the Qt4 toolkit.

Eclipse

The Eclipse IDE with the ReST Editor plug-in provides support for editing reStructuredText files.

NoTex

NoTex is a browser based (general purpose) text editor, with integrated project management and syntax highlighting. Plus it enables to write books, reports, articles etc. using rST and convert them to LaTex, PDF or HTML. The PDF files are of high publication quality and are produced via Sphinx with the Texlive LaTex suite.

Notepad++

Notepad++ is a general purpose text editor for Windows. It has syntax highlighting for many languages built-in and support for reStructuredText via a user defined language for reStructuredText.

Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio Code is a general purpose text editor for Windows/macOS/Linux. It has syntax highlighting for many languages built-in and supports reStructuredText via an extension from LeXtudio.

Dedicated reStructuredText Editors

Proprietary editors

Sublime Text

Sublime Text is a completely customizable and extensible source code editor available for Windows, OS X, and Linux. Registration is required for long-term use, but all functions are available in the unregistered version, with occasional reminders to purchase a license. Versions 2 and 3 (currently in beta) support reStructuredText syntax highlighting by default, and several plugins are available through the package manager Package Control to provide snippets and code completion, additional syntax highlighting, conversion to/from RST and other formats, and HTML preview in the browser.

BBEdit / TextWrangler

BBEdit (and its free variant TextWrangler) for Mac can syntax-highlight reStructuredText using this codeless language module.

TextMate

TextMate, a proprietary general-purpose GUI text editor for Mac OS X, has a bundle for reStructuredText.

Intype

Intype is a proprietary text editor for Windows, that support reStructuredText out of the box.

E Text Editor

E is a proprietary Text Editor licensed under the "Open Company License". It supports TextMate's bundles, so it should support reStructuredText the same way TextMate does.

PyCharm

PyCharm (and other IntelliJ platform IDEs?) has ReST/Sphinx support (syntax highlighting, autocomplete and preview).instant preview)

Wiki

here are some Wiki programs that support the reStructuredText markup as the native markup syntax, or as an add-on:

MediaWiki

MediaWiki reStructuredText extension allows for reStructuredText markup in MediaWiki surrounded by <rst> and </rst>.

MoinMoin

MoinMoin is an advanced, easy to use and extensible WikiEngine with a large community of users. Said in a few words, it is about collaboration on easily editable web pages.

There is a reStructuredText Parser for MoinMoin.

Trac is an enhanced wiki and issue tracking system for software development projects. There is a reStructuredText Support in Trac.

This Wiki

This Wiki is a Webware for Python Wiki written by Ian Bicking. This wiki uses ReStructuredText for its markup.

rstiki

rstiki is a minimalist single-file personal wiki using reStructuredText syntax (via docutils) inspired by pwyky. It does not support authorship indication, versioning, hierarchy, chrome/framing/templating or styling. It leverages docutils/reStructuredText as the wiki syntax. As such, it's under 200 lines of code, and in a single file. You put it in a directory and it runs.

ikiwiki

Ikiwiki is a wiki compiler. It converts wiki pages into HTML pages suitable for publishing on a website. Ikiwiki stores pages and history in a revision control system such as Subversion or Git. There are many other features, including support for blogging, as well as a large array of plugins. It's reStructuredText plugin, however is somewhat limited and is not recommended as its' main markup language at this time.

Web Services

Sandbox

An Online reStructuredText editor can be used to play with the markup and see the results immediately.

angularjs to output plain text instead of html

<div ng-bind-html="myText"></div> No need to put into html {{}} interpolation tags like you did {{myText}}.

and don't forget to use ngSanitize in module like e.g. var app = angular.module("myApp", ['ngSanitize']);

and add its cdn dependency in index.html page https://cdnjs.com/libraries/angular-sanitize

Check input value length

You can add a form onsubmit handler, something like:

<form onsubmit="return validate();">

</form>

<script>function validate() {
 // check if input is bigger than 3
 var value = document.getElementById('titleeee').value;
 if (value.length < 3) {
   return false; // keep form from submitting
 }

 // else form is good let it submit, of course you will
 // probably want to alert the user WHAT went wrong.

 return true;
}</script>

What order are the Junit @Before/@After called?

If you turn things around, you can declare your base class abstract, and have descendants declare setUp and tearDown methods (without annotations) that are called in the base class' annotated setUp and tearDown methods.

IOCTL Linux device driver

An ioctl, which means "input-output control" is a kind of device-specific system call. There are only a few system calls in Linux (300-400), which are not enough to express all the unique functions devices may have. So a driver can define an ioctl which allows a userspace application to send it orders. However, ioctls are not very flexible and tend to get a bit cluttered (dozens of "magic numbers" which just work... or not), and can also be insecure, as you pass a buffer into the kernel - bad handling can break things easily.

An alternative is the sysfs interface, where you set up a file under /sys/ and read/write that to get information from and to the driver. An example of how to set this up:

static ssize_t mydrvr_version_show(struct device *dev,
        struct device_attribute *attr, char *buf)
{
    return sprintf(buf, "%s\n", DRIVER_RELEASE);
}

static DEVICE_ATTR(version, S_IRUGO, mydrvr_version_show, NULL);

And during driver setup:

device_create_file(dev, &dev_attr_version);

You would then have a file for your device in /sys/, for example, /sys/block/myblk/version for a block driver.

Another method for heavier use is netlink, which is an IPC (inter-process communication) method to talk to your driver over a BSD socket interface. This is used, for example, by the WiFi drivers. You then communicate with it from userspace using the libnl or libnl3 libraries.

Reasons for using the set.seed function

set.seed is a base function that it is able to generate (every time you want) together other functions (rnorm, runif, sample) the same random value.

Below an example without set.seed

> set.seed(NULL)
> rnorm(5)
[1]  1.5982677 -2.2572974  2.3057461  0.5935456  0.1143519
> rnorm(5)
[1]  0.15135371  0.20266228  0.95084266  0.09319339 -1.11049182
> set.seed(NULL)
> runif(5)
[1] 0.05697712 0.31892399 0.92547023 0.88360393 0.90015169

[1] 0.09374559 0.64406494 0.65817582 0.30179009 0.19760375
> set.seed(NULL)
> sample(5)
[1] 5 4 3 1 2
> sample(5)
[1] 2 1 5 4 3

Below an example with set.seed

> set.seed(123)
> rnorm(5)
[1] -0.56047565 -0.23017749  1.55870831  0.07050839  0.12928774
> set.seed(123)
> rnorm(5)

> set.seed(123)
> runif(5)
[1] 0.2875775 0.7883051 0.4089769 0.8830174 0.9404673
> set.seed(123)

What is the point of WORKDIR on Dockerfile?

Before applying WORKDIR. Here the WORKDIR is at the wrong place and is not used wisely.

FROM microsoft/aspnetcore:2
COPY --from=build-env /publish /publish
WORKDIR /publish
ENTRYPOINT ["dotnet", "/publish/api.dll"]

We corrected the above code to put WORKDIR at the right location and optimised the following statements by removing /Publish

FROM microsoft/aspnetcore:2
WORKDIR /publish
COPY --from=build-env /publish .
ENTRYPOINT ["dotnet", "api.dll"]

So it acts like a cd and sets the tone for the upcoming statements.

    let dateFormatterPrint = DateFormatter()
    dateFormatterPrint.dateFormat = "MMM dd yyyy h:mm a"  //"MMM d, h:mm a" for  Sep 12, 2:11 PM
    let datee = dateFormatterGet.date(from: Msg_Date_)

How to check string length and then select substring in Sql Server

To conditionally check the length of the string, use CASE.

SELECT  CASE WHEN LEN(comments) <= 60

        END  As Comments
FROM    myView

adding and removing classes in angularJs using ng-click

you can also do that in a directive, if you want to remove the previous class and add a new class

    .directive('toggleClass', function() {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        link: function(scope, element, attrs) {
            element.bind('click', function() {
                if(element.attr("class") == "glyphicon glyphicon-pencil") {
                    element.removeClass("glyphicon glyphicon-pencil");
                    element.addClass(attrs.toggleClass);
                } else {
                    element.removeClass("glyphicon glyphicon-ok");
                    element.addClass("glyphicon glyphicon-pencil");
                }
            });
        }
    };
});

and in your template:

<i class="glyphicon glyphicon-pencil" toggle-class="glyphicon glyphicon-ok"></i>

Can you do a partial checkout with Subversion?

Sort of. As Bobby says:

svn co file:///.../trunk/foo file:///.../trunk/bar file:///.../trunk/hum

will get the folders, but you will get separate folders from a subversion perspective. You will have to go separate commits and updates on each subfolder.

I don't believe you can checkout a partial tree and then work with the partial tree as a single entity.

If you set "Use regular expressions" flag then \n would be translated. But keep in mind that you would have to modify you search term to be regexp friendly. In your case it should be escaped like this "\~\~\?" (no quotes).

How do I generate a list with a specified increment step?

Executing seq(1, 10, 1) does what 1:10 does. You can change the last parameter of seq, i.e. by, to be the step of whatever size you like.

How can I turn a DataTable to a CSV?

Possibly, most easy way will be to use:

https://github.com/ukushu/DataExporter

especially in case of your data of datatable containing /r/n characters or separator symbol inside of your dataTable cells. Almost all of other answers will not work with such cells.

only you need is to write the following code:

Csv csv = new Csv("\t");//Needed delimiter

var columnNames = dt.Columns.Cast<DataColumn>().
    Select(column => column.ColumnName).ToArray();

csv.AddRow(columnNames);

foreach (DataRow row in dt.Rows)
{
    var fields = row.ItemArray.Select(field => field.ToString()).ToArray;
    csv.AddRow(fields);
}

csv.Save();

Exiting out of a FOR loop in a batch file?

You could simply use echo on and you will see that goto :eof or even exit /b doesn't work as expected.

The code inside of the loop isn't executed anymore, but the loop is expanded for all numbers to the end.
That's why it's so slow.

The only way to exit a FOR /L loop seems to be the variant of exit like the exsample of Wimmel, but this isn't very fast nor useful to access any results from the loop.

This shows 10 expansions, but none of them will be executed

echo on
for /l %%n in (1,1,10) do (
  goto :eof
  echo %%n
)

how to query LIST using linq

Since you haven't given any indication to what you want, here is a link to 101 LINQ samples that use all the different LINQ methods: 101 LINQ Samples

Also, you should really really really change your List into a strongly typed list (List<T>), properly define T, and add instances of T to your list. It will really make the queries much easier since you won't have to cast everything all the time.

Focusable EditText inside ListView

We're trying this on a short list that does not do any view recycling. So far so good.

XML:

<RitalinLayout

    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    >
  <ListView
      android:id="@+id/cart_list"
      android:layout_width="match_parent"
      android:layout_height="match_parent"
      android:scrollbarStyle="outsideOverlay"
      />
</RitalinLayout>

Java:

/**
 * It helps you keep focused.
 *
 * For use as a parent of {@link android.widget.ListView}s that need to use EditText
 * children for inline editing.
 */
public class RitalinLayout extends FrameLayout {
  View sticky;

How to get full width in body element

You should set body and html to position:fixed;, and then set right:, left:, top:, and bottom: to 0;. That way, even if content overflows it will not extend past the limits of the viewport.

For example:

<html>
<body>
    <div id="wrapper"></div>
</body>
</html>

CSS:

html, body, {
    position:fixed;
    top:0;
    bottom:0;
    left:0;
    right:0;
}

Does Python support short-circuiting?

Yep, both and and or operators short-circuit -- see the docs.

Open images? Python

Instead of

Image.open(picture.jpg)
Img.show

You should have

from PIL import Image

#...

img = Image.open('picture.jpg')
img.show()

You should probably also think about an other system to show your messages, because this way it will be a lot of manual work. Look into string substitution (using %s or .format()).

SQL providerName in web.config

System.Data.SqlClient is the .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server. ie .NET library for SQL Server.

I don't know where providerName=SqlServer comes from. Could you be getting this confused with the provider keyword in your connection string? (I know I was :) )

In the web.config you should have the System.Data.SqlClient as the value of the providerName attribute. It is the .NET Framework Data Provider you are using.

<connectionStrings>
   <add
      name="LocalSqlServer"
      connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
   />
</connectionStrings>

How can I explicitly free memory in Python?

As other answers already say, Python can keep from releasing memory to the OS even if it's no longer in use by Python code (so gc.collect() doesn't free anything) especially in a long-running program. Anyway if you're on Linux you can try to release memory by invoking directly the libc function malloc_trim (man page). Something like:

import ctypes
libc = ctypes.CDLL("libc.so.6")
libc.malloc_trim(0)

How to get the path of running java program

You actually do not want to get the path to your main class. According to your example you want to get the current working directory, i.e. directory where your program started. In this case you can just say new File(".").getAbsolutePath()

Get the string within brackets in Python

You could use str.split to do this.

s = "<alpha.Customer[cus_Y4o9qMEZAugtnW] active_card=<alpha.AlphaObject[card]\
 ...>, created=1324336085, description='Customer for My Test App',\
 livemode=False>"
val = s.split('[', 1)[1].split(']')[0]

Then we have:

>>> val
'cus_Y4o9qMEZAugtnW'

PHP passing $_GET in linux command prompt

From this answer on ServerFault:

Use the php-cgi binary instead of just php, and pass the arguments on the command line, like this:

php-cgi -f index.php left=1058 right=1067 class=A language=English

Which puts this in $_GET:

Array
(
    [left] => 1058
    [right] => 1067
    [class] => A
    [language] => English
)

You can also set environment variables that would be set by the web server, like this:

REQUEST_URI='/index.php' SCRIPT_NAME='/index.php' php-cgi -f index.php left=1058 right=1067 class=A language=English

How to copy directories with spaces in the name

There is a bug in robocopy in interpreting the source name. If you include a back slash at the end of the path to describe a folder it keeps including the string for the source into the rest of the line. ie

robocopy "C:\back up\" %destination% /e Nothing here will go to the destination string

robocopy "C:\back up" %destination% /e but this works

I may be wrong but I think both should work!

Go test string contains substring

To compare, there are more options:

import (
    "fmt"
    "regexp"
    "strings"
)

const (
    str    = "something"
    substr = "some"
)

// 1. Contains
res := strings.Contains(str, substr)
fmt.Println(res) // true

// 2. Index: check the index of the first instance of substr in str, or -1 if substr is not present
i := strings.Index(str, substr)
fmt.Println(i) // 0

// 3. Split by substr and check len of the slice, or length is 1 if substr is not present
ss := strings.Split(str, substr)
fmt.Println(len(ss)) // 2

// 4. Check number of non-overlapping instances of substr in str
c := strings.Count(str, substr)
fmt.Println(c) // 1

// 5. RegExp
matched, _ := regexp.MatchString(substr, str)
fmt.Println(matched) // true

// 6. Compiled RegExp
re = regexp.MustCompile(substr)
res = re.MatchString(str)
fmt.Println(res) // true

Change :hover CSS properties with JavaScript

You can use mouse events to control like hover. For example, the following code is making visible when you hover that element.

var foo = document.getElementById("foo");
foo.addEventListener('mouseover',function(){
   foo.style.display="block";
})
foo.addEventListener('mouseleave',function(){
   foo.style.display="none";
})

What happens if you don't commit a transaction to a database (say, SQL Server)?

When you open a transaction nothing gets locked by itself. But if you execute some queries inside that transaction, depending on the isolation level, some rows, tables or pages get locked so it will affect other queries that try to access them from other transactions.

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss") is returning AM time instead of PM time?

Use HH for 24 hour hours format:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")

Or the tt format specifier for the AM/PM part:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss tt")

Take a look at the custom Date and Time format strings documentation.

Abstract methods in Java

Abstract methods means there is no default implementation for it and an implementing class will provide the details.

Essentially, you would have

abstract class AbstractObject {
   public abstract void method();
}

class ImplementingObject extends AbstractObject {
  public void method() {
    doSomething();
  }
}

So, it's exactly as the error states: your abstract method can not have a body.

There's a full tutorial on Oracle's site at: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/IandI/abstract.html

The reason you would do something like this is if multiple objects can share some behavior, but not all behavior.

A very simple example would be shapes:

You can have a generic graphic object, which knows how to reposition itself, but the implementing classes will actually draw themselves.

(This is taken from the site I linked above)

abstract class GraphicObject {
    int x, y;
    ...
    void moveTo(int newX, int newY) {
        ...
    }
    abstract void draw();
    abstract void resize();
}

class Circle extends GraphicObject {
    void draw() {
        ...
    }
    void resize() {
        ...
    }
}
class Rectangle extends GraphicObject {
    void draw() {
        ...
    }
    void resize() {
        ...
    }
}

Copying data from one SQLite database to another

I needed to move data from a sql server compact database to sqlite, so using sql server 2008 you can right click on the table and select 'Script Table To' and then 'Data to Inserts'. Copy the insert statements remove the 'GO' statements and it executed successfully when applied to the sqlite database using the 'DB Browser for Sqlite' app.

Is a DIV inside a TD a bad idea?

No. Not necessarily.

If you need to place a DIV within a TD, be sure you're using the TD properly. If you don't care about tabular-data, and semantics, then you ultimately won't care about DIVs in TDs. I don't think there's a problem though - if you have to do it, you're fine.

According to the HTML Specification

A <div> can be placed where flow content is expected1, which is the <td> content model2.

How can I get date in application run by node.js?

To create a new Date object in node.js, or JavaScript in general, just call it’s initializer

var d = new Date();

var d = new Date(dateString);

var d = new Date(jsonDate);

var d = new Date(year, month, day);

var d = new Date(year, month, day, hour, minute, second, millisecond);

Remember that Date objects can only be instantiated by calling Date or using it as a constructor; unlike other JavaScript object types, Date objects have no literal syntax

add/remove active class for ul list with jquery?

I used this:

$('.nav-list li.active').removeClass('active');
$(this).parent().addClass('active');

Since the active class is in the <li> element and what is clicked is the <a> element, the first line removes .active from all <li> and the second one (again, $(this) represents <a> which is the clicked element) adds .active to the direct parent, which is <li>.

How do I get the SQLSRV extension to work with PHP, since MSSQL is deprecated?

Quoting http://php.net/manual/en/intro.mssql.php:

The MSSQL extension is not available anymore on Windows with PHP 5.3 or later. SQLSRV, an alternative driver for MS SQL is available from Microsoft: » http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/ff657782.aspx.

Once you downloaded that, follow the instructions at this page:

In a nutshell:

Put the driver file in your PHP extension directory.
Modify the php.ini file to include the driver. For example:

extension=php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll

Restart the Web server.

See Also (copied from that page)

The PHP Manual for the SQLSRV extension is located at http://php.net/manual/en/sqlsrv.installation.php and offers the following for Installation:

The SQLSRV extension is enabled by adding appropriate DLL file to your PHP extension directory and the corresponding entry to the php.ini file. The SQLSRV download comes with several driver files. Which driver file you use will depend on 3 factors: the PHP version you are using, whether you are using thread-safe or non-thread-safe PHP, and whether your PHP installation was compiled with the VC6 or VC9 compiler. For example, if you are running PHP 5.3, you are using non-thread-safe PHP, and your PHP installation was compiled with the VC9 compiler, you should use the php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll file. (You should use a non-thread-safe version compiled with the VC9 compiler if you are using IIS as your web server). If you are running PHP 5.2, you are using thread-safe PHP, and your PHP installation was compiled with the VC6 compiler, you should use the php_sqlsrv_52_ts_vc6.dll file.

The drivers can also be used with PDO.

How should we manage jdk8 stream for null values

If you just want to filter null values out of a stream, you can simply use a method reference to java.util.Objects.nonNull(Object). From its documentation:

This method exists to be used as a Predicate, filter(Objects::nonNull)

For example:

List<String> list = Arrays.asList( null, "Foo", null, "Bar", null, null);

list.stream()
    .filter( Objects::nonNull )  // <-- Filter out null values
    .forEach( System.out::println );

This will print:

Foo
Bar

Why does an onclick property set with setAttribute fail to work in IE?

In some cases the examples listed here didn't work out for me in Internet Explorer.

Since you have to set the property with a method like this (without brackets)

HtmlElement.onclick = myMethod;

it won't work if you have to pass an object-name or even parameters. For the Internet Explorer you should create a new object in runtime:

HtmlElement.onclick = new Function('myMethod(' + someParameter + ')');

Works also on other browsers.

"Could not load type [Namespace].Global" causing me grief

I had converted my solution from VS2003 to VS2010 and had had problems converting the web application project.

I experienced the exact same problem and none of the answers worked for me.

What worked for me was:

  • Right Click on the solution and select Configuration Manager
  • Looked at each of the configurations in the 'Active solution configuration' drop down list.
  • Included the web application in the build by ticking the 'Build' check-box.

it would seem that the problems I had during the conversion had removed the web application project from the build for some reason.

Hopefully this answer helps anyone else that has the same problem...

Config Error: This configuration section cannot be used at this path

Browse to “C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config” (you will need administrator rights here) Open applicationHost.config

Note: In IISExpress and Visual Studio 2015 the applicationHost.config is stored in $(solutionDir).vs\config\applicationhost.config

Find the section that showed up in the “config source” part of the error message page. For me this has typically been “modules” or “handlers”

Change the overrideModeDefault attribute to be Allow

So the whole line now looks like:

<section name="modules" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" overrideModeDefault="Allow" />

After saving the file, the page loaded up fine in my browser.

Read a text file using Node.js?

IMHO, fs.readFile() should be avoided because it loads ALL the file in memory and it won't call the callback until all the file has been read.

The easiest way to read a text file is to read it line by line. I recommend a BufferedReader:

new BufferedReader ("file", { encoding: "utf8" })
    .on ("error", function (error){
        console.log ("error: " + error);
    })
    .on ("line", function (line){
        console.log ("line: " + line);
    })
    .on ("end", function (){
        console.log ("EOF");
    })
    .read ();

For complex data structures like .properties or json files you need to use a parser (internally it should also use a buffered reader).

How to check for the type of a template parameter?

std::is_same() is only available since C++11. For pre-C++11 you can use typeid():

template <typename T>
void foo()
{
    if (typeid(T) == typeid(animal)) { /* ... */ }
}

How to link 2 cell of excel sheet?

I Found Solution Of You Question But In Stack Not Allow to Upload Video See the link below it show better explain

How to link two (multiple) workbooks and cells in Excel...

What does <T> denote in C#

It is a generic type parameter, see Generics documentation.

T is not a reserved keyword. T, or any given name, means a type parameter. Check the following method (just as a simple example).

T GetDefault<T>()
{
    return default(T);
}

Note that the return type is T. With this method you can get the default value of any type by calling the method as:

GetDefault<int>(); // 0
GetDefault<string>(); // null
GetDefault<DateTime>(); // 01/01/0001 00:00:00
GetDefault<TimeSpan>(); // 00:00:00

.NET uses generics in collections, ... example:

List<int> integerList = new List<int>();

This way you will have a list that only accepts integers, because the class is instancited with the type T, in this case int, and the method that add elements is written as:

public class List<T> : ...
{
    public void Add(T item);
}

Some more information about generics.

You can limit the scope of the type T.

The following example only allows you to invoke the method with types that are classes:

void Foo<T>(T item) where T: class
{
}

The following example only allows you to invoke the method with types that are Circle or inherit from it.

void Foo<T>(T item) where T: Circle
{
}

And there is new() that says you can create an instance of T if it has a parameterless constructor. In the following example T will be treated as Circle, you get intellisense...

void Foo<T>(T item) where T: Circle, new()
{
    T newCircle = new T();
}

As T is a type parameter, you can get the object Type from it. With the Type you can use reflection...

void Foo<T>(T item) where T: class
{
    Type type = typeof(T);
}

As a more complex example, check the signature of ToDictionary or any other Linq method.

public static Dictionary<TKey, TSource> ToDictionary<TSource, TKey>(this IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, TKey> keySelector);

There isn't a T, however there is TKey and TSource. It is recommended that you always name type parameters with the prefix T as shown above.

You could name TSomethingFoo if you want to.

Rendering a template variable as HTML

You can render a template in your code like so:

from django.template import Context, Template
t = Template('This is your <span>{{ message }}</span>.')

c = Context({'message': 'Your message'})
html = t.render(c)

See the Django docs for further information.

How do I build JSON dynamically in javascript?

First, I think you're calling it the wrong thing. "JSON" stands for "JavaScript Object Notation" - it's just a specification for representing some data in a string that explicitly mimics JavaScript object (and array, string, number and boolean) literals. You're trying to build up a JavaScript object dynamically - so the word you're looking for is "object".

With that pedantry out of the way, I think that you're asking how to set object and array properties.

// make an empty object
var myObject = {};

// set the "list1" property to an array of strings
myObject.list1 = ['1', '2'];

// you can also access properties by string
myObject['list2'] = [];
// accessing arrays is the same, but the keys are numbers
myObject.list2[0] = 'a';
myObject['list2'][1] = 'b';

myObject.list3 = [];
// instead of placing properties at specific indices, you
// can push them on to the end
myObject.list3.push({});
// or unshift them on to the beginning
myObject.list3.unshift({});
myObject.list3[0]['key1'] = 'value1';
myObject.list3[1]['key2'] = 'value2';

myObject.not_a_list = '11';

That code will build up the object that you specified in your question (except that I call it myObject instead of myJSON). For more information on accessing properties, I recommend the Mozilla JavaScript Guide and the book JavaScript: The Good Parts.

How to reset index in a pandas dataframe?

DataFrame.reset_index is what you're looking for. If you don't want it saved as a column, then do:

df = df.reset_index(drop=True)

If you don't want to reassign:

df.reset_index(drop=True, inplace=True)

python replace single backslash with double backslash

Use escape characters: "full\\path\\here", "\\" and "\\\\"

HttpWebRequest using Basic authentication

You can also just add the authorization header yourself.

Just make the name "Authorization" and the value "Basic BASE64({USERNAME:PASSWORD})"

String username = "abc";
String password = "123";
String encoded = System.Convert.ToBase64String(System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding("ISO-8859-1").GetBytes(username + ":" + password));
httpWebRequest.Headers.Add("Authorization", "Basic " + encoded);

Edit

Switched the encoding from UTF-8 to ISO 8859-1 per What encoding should I use for HTTP Basic Authentication? and Jeroen's comment.

How do I name the "row names" column in r

It sounds like you want to convert the rownames to a proper column of the data.frame. eg:

# add the rownames as a proper column
myDF <- cbind(Row.Names = rownames(myDF), myDF)
myDF

#           Row.Names id val vr2
# row_one     row_one  A   1  23
# row_two     row_two  A   2  24
# row_three row_three  B   3  25
# row_four   row_four  C   4  26

If you want to then remove the original rownames:

rownames(myDF) <- NULL
myDF
#   Row.Names id val vr2
# 1   row_one  A   1  23
# 2   row_two  A   2  24
# 3 row_three  B   3  25
# 4  row_four  C   4  26

Alternatively, if all of your data is of the same class (ie, all numeric, or all string), you can convert to Matrix and name the dimnames

myMat <- as.matrix(myDF)
names(dimnames(myMat)) <- c("Names.of.Rows", "")
myMat

# Names.of.Rows id  val vr2
#   row_one   "A" "1" "23"
#   row_two   "A" "2" "24"
#   row_three "B" "3" "25"
#   row_four  "C" "4" "26"

How to get folder path from file path with CMD

For the folder name and drive, you can use:

echo %~dp0

You can get a lot more information using different modifiers:

%~I         - expands %I removing any surrounding quotes (")
%~fI - expands %I to a fully qualified path name
%~dI        - expands %I to a drive letter only
%~pI        - expands %I to a path only
%~nI        - expands %I to a file name only
%~xI        - expands %I to a file extension only
%~sI - expanded path contains short names only
%~aI - expands %I to file attributes of file
%~tI        - expands %I to date/time of file
%~zI - expands %I to size of file

The modifiers can be combined to get compound results:
%~dpI - expands %I to a drive letter and path only
%~nxI - expands %I to a file name and extension only
%~fsI - expands %I to a full path name with short names only

This is a copy paste from the "for /?" command on the prompt. Hope it helps.

into a terminal, you'll get your intended output of the disk usage in GB.

EDIT: or even use just df -h to get it in a standard, human readable format.

Calling onclick on a radiobutton list using javascript

try following solution

HTML:

<div id="variant">
<label><input type="radio" name="toggle" class="radio" value="19,99€"><span>A</span></label>
<label><input type="radio" name="toggle" class="radio" value="<<<"><span>B</span></label>
<label><input type="radio" name="toggle" class="radio" value="xxx"><span>C</span></label>
<p id="price"></p>

JS:

$(document).ready(function () {
       $('.radio').click(function () {
           document.getElementById('price').innerHTML = $(this).val();
       });

   });

Adding asterisk to required fields in Bootstrap 3

Use .form-group.required without the space.

.form-group.required .control-label:after {
  content:"*";
  color:red;
}

Edit:

For the checkbox you can use the pseudo class :not(). You add the required * after each label unless it is a checkbox

.form-group.required:not(.checkbox) .control-label:after,
.form-group.required .text:after { /* change .text in whatever class of the text after the checkbox has */
   content:"*";
   color:red;
}

Note: not tested

You should use the .text class or target it otherwise probably, try this html:

<div class="form-group required">
   <label class="col-md-2 control-label">&#160;</label>
   <div class="col-md-4">
      <div class="checkbox">
         <label class='text'> <!-- use this class -->
            <input class="" id="id_tos" name="tos" required="required" type="checkbox" /> I have read and agree to the Terms of Service
         </label>
      </div>
   </div>
</div>

Ok third edit:

CSS back to what is was

.form-group.required .control-label:after {
   content:"*";
   color:red;
}

HTML:

<div class="form-group required">
   <label class="col-md-2">&#160;</label> <!-- remove class control-label -->
   <div class="col-md-4">
      <div class="checkbox">
         <label class='control-label'> <!-- use this class as the red * will be after control-label -->
            <input class="" id="id_tos" name="tos" required="required" type="checkbox" /> I have read and agree to the Terms of Service
         </label>
      </div>
   </div>
</div>

Case Insensitive String comp in C

As others have stated, there is no portable function that works on all systems. You can partially circumvent this with simple ifdef:

#include <stdio.h>

#ifdef _WIN32
#include <string.h>
#define strcasecmp _stricmp
#else // assuming POSIX or BSD compliant system
#include <strings.h>
#endif

int main() {
    printf("%d", strcasecmp("teSt", "TEst"));
}

How to iterate through a table rows and get the cell values using jQuery

Looping through a table for each row and reading the 1st column value works by using JQuery and DOM logic.

var i = 0;
var t = document.getElementById('flex1');

$("#flex1 tr").each(function() {
    var val1 = $(t.rows[i].cells[0]).text();
    alert(val1) ;
    i++;
});

How to generate a random alpha-numeric string

public static String generateSessionKey(int length){
    String alphabet =
        new String("0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"); // 9

    int n = alphabet.length(); // 10

    String result = new String();
    Random r = new Random(); // 11

    for (int i=0; i<length; i++) // 12
        result = result + alphabet.charAt(r.nextInt(n)); //13

    return result;
}

How do I convert a Django QuerySet into list of dicts?

You can use the values() method on the dict you got from the Django model field you make the queries on and then you can easily access each field by a index value.

Call it like this -

myList = dictOfSomeData.values()
itemNumberThree = myList[2] #If there's a value in that index off course...

How to determine tables size in Oracle

Here is a query, you can run it in SQL Developer (or SQL*Plus):

SELECT DS.TABLESPACE_NAME, SEGMENT_NAME, ROUND(SUM(DS.BYTES) / (1024 * 1024)) AS MB
  FROM DBA_SEGMENTS DS
  WHERE SEGMENT_NAME IN (SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM DBA_TABLES)
 GROUP BY DS.TABLESPACE_NAME,
       SEGMENT_NAME;

How to make a JFrame Modal in Swing java

The only code that have worked for me:

childFrame.setAlwaysOnTop(true);

This code should be called on the main/parent frame before making the child/modal frame visible. Your child/modal frame should also have this code:

parentFrame.setFocusableWindowState(false);
this.mainFrame.setEnabled(false);

How do I count unique visitors to my site?

I have edited the "Best answer" code, though I found a useful thing that was missing. This is will also track the ip of a user if they are using a Proxy or simply if the server has nginx installed as a proxy reverser.

I added this code to his script at the top of the function:

function getRealIpAddr()
{
    if (!empty($_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'])) //check ip from share internet
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'];
    }
    elseif (!empty($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'])) //to check ip is pass from proxy
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'];
    }
    else
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
    }
    return $ip;
}
$adresseip = getRealIpAddr();

Afther that I edited his code.

Find the line that says the following:

// get the user name if it is logged, or the visitors IP (and add the identifier)

    $uvon = isset($_SESSION['nume']) ? $_SESSION['nume'] : $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR']. $vst_id;

and replace it with this:

$uvon = isset($_SESSION['nume']) ? $_SESSION['nume'] : $adresseip. $vst_id;

This will work.

Here is the full code if anything happens:

<?php

function getRealIpAddr()
{
    if (!empty($_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'])) //check ip from share internet
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'];
    }
    elseif (!empty($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'])) //to check ip is pass from proxy
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'];
    }
    else
    {
      $ip=$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
    }
    return $ip;
}
$adresseip = getRealIpAddr();

Haven't tested this on the Sql script yet.

How to get String Array from arrays.xml file

Your XML is not entirely clear, but arrays XML can cause force closes if you make them numbers, and/or put white space in their definition.

Make sure they are defined like No Leading or Trailing Whitespace

Does Java have an exponential operator?

In case if anyone wants to create there own exponential function using recursion, below is for your reference.

public static double power(double value, double p) {
        if (p <= 0)
            return 1;

        return value * power(value, p - 1);
    }
