Programs & Examples On #Nested sets

The nested set model is a particular technique for representing nested sets (also known as trees or hierarchies) in relational databases.

What are the options for storing hierarchical data in a relational database?

If your database supports arrays, you can also implement a lineage column or materialized path as an array of parent ids.

Specifically with Postgres you can then use the set operators to query the hierarchy, and get excellent performance with GIN indices. This makes finding parents, children, and depth pretty trivial in a single query. Updates are pretty manageable as well.

I have a full write up of using arrays for materialized paths if you're curious.

Difference between "move" and "li" in MIPS assembly language

The move instruction copies a value from one register to another. The li instruction loads a specific numeric value into that register.

For the specific case of zero, you can use either the constant zero or the zero register to get that:

move $s0, $zero
li   $s0, 0

There's no register that generates a value other than zero, though, so you'd have to use li if you wanted some other number, like:

li $s0, 12345678

Can I escape html special chars in javascript?

You can encode every character in your string:

function encode(e){return e.replace(/[^]/g,function(e){return"&#"+e.charCodeAt(0)+";"})}

Or just target the main characters to worry about (&, inebreaks, <, >, " and ') like:

_x000D_
_x000D_
function encode(r){_x000D_
return r.replace(/[\x26\x0A\<>'"]/g,function(r){return"&#"+r.charCodeAt(0)+";"})_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
test.value=encode('How to encode\nonly html tags &<>\'" nice & fast!');_x000D_

Default behavior of "git push" without a branch specified

You can control the default behavior by setting push.default in your git config. From the git-config(1) documentation:

push.default

Defines the action git push should take if no refspec is given on the command line, no refspec is configured in the remote, and no refspec is implied by any of the options given on the command line. Possible values are:

  • nothing: do not push anything

  • matching: push all matching branches

    All branches having the same name in both ends are considered to be matching.

    This used to be the default, but not since Git 2.0 (simple is the new default).

  • upstream: push the current branch to its upstream branch (tracking is a deprecated synonym for upstream)

  • current: push the current branch to a branch of the same name

  • simple: (new in Git 1.7.11) like upstream, but refuses to push if the upstream branch's name is different from the local one

    This is the safest option and is well-suited for beginners.

    This mode has become the default in Git 2.0.

The simple, current and upstream modes are for those who want to push out a single branch after finishing work, even when the other branches are not yet ready to be pushed out

Command line examples:

To view the current configuration:

git config --global push.default

To set a new configuration:

git config --global push.default current

What is considered a good response time for a dynamic, personalized web application?

Not only does it depend on what keeps your users happy, but how much development time do you have? What kind of resources can you throw at the problem (software, hardware, and people)?

I don't mind a couple-few second delay for hosted applications if they're doing something "complex". If it's really simple, delays bother me.

Where does Oracle SQL Developer store connections?

How to redirect to another page using PHP

You could use a function similar to:

function redirect($url) {
    ob_start();
    header('Location: '.$url);
    ob_end_flush();
    die();
}

Worth noting, you should always use either ob_flush() or ob_start() at the beginning of your header('location: ...'); functions, and you should always follow them with a die() or exit() function to prevent further code execution.

Here's a more detailed guide than any of the other answers have mentioned: http://www.exchangecore.com/blog/how-redirect-using-php/

This guide includes reasons for using die() / exit() functions in your redirects, as well as when to use ob_flush() vs ob_start(), and some potential errors that the others answers have left out at this point.

Converting SVG to PNG using C#

There is a much easier way using the library http://svg.codeplex.com/ (Newer version @GIT, @NuGet). Here is my code

var byteArray = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(svgFileContents);
using (var stream = new MemoryStream(byteArray))
{
    var svgDocument = SvgDocument.Open(stream);
    var bitmap = svgDocument.Draw();
    bitmap.Save(path, ImageFormat.Png);
}

Buiding Hadoop with Eclipse / Maven - Missing artifact jdk.tools:jdk.tools:jar:1.6

The problem is in the Eclipse Maven support, the related question is here.

Under Eclipse, the java.home variable is set to the JRE that was used to start Eclipse, not the build JRE. The default system JRE from C:\Program Files doesn't include the JDK so tools.jar is not being found.

To fix the issue you need to start Eclipse using the JRE from the JDK by adding something like this to eclipse.ini (before -vmargs!):

-vm
C:/<your_path_to_jdk170>/jre/bin/server/jvm.dll

Then refresh the Maven dependencies (Alt-F5) (Just refreshing the project isn't sufficient).

Android Studio: “Execution failed for task ':app:mergeDebugResources'” if project is created on drive C:

Update your gradle build tools in project level gradle , and it will show you the exact resource that is causing the error.

Debugging PHP Mail() and/or PHPMailer

It looks like the class.phpmailer.php file is corrupt. I would download the latest version and try again.

I've always used phpMailer's SMTP feature:

$mail->IsSMTP();
$mail->Host = "localhost";

And if you need debug info:

$mail->SMTPDebug = 2; // enables SMTP debug information (for testing)
                       // 1 = errors and messages
                       // 2 = messages only

Initializing a list to a known number of elements in Python

Wanting to initalize an array of fixed size is a perfectly acceptable thing to do in any programming language; it isn't like the programmer wants to put a break statement in a while(true) loop. Believe me, especially if the elements are just going to be overwritten and not merely added/subtracted, like is the case of many dynamic programming algorithms, you don't want to mess around with append statements and checking if the element hasn't been initialized yet on the fly (that's a lot of code gents).

object = [0 for x in range(1000)]

This will work for what the programmer is trying to achieve.

css selector to match an element without attribute x

For a more cross-browser solution you could style all inputs the way you want the non-typed, text, and password then another style the overrides that style for radios, checkboxes, etc.

input { border:solid 1px red; }

input[type=radio],
input[type=checkbox],
input[type=submit],
input[type=reset],
input[type=file]
      { border:none; }

- Or -

could whatever part of your code that is generating the non-typed inputs give them a class like .no-type or simply not output at all? Additionally this type of selection could be done with jQuery.

How to determine if a decimal/double is an integer?

If upper and lower bound of Int32 matters:

public bool IsInt32(double value)
{
    return  value >= int.MinValue && value <= int.MaxValue && value == (int)value;
}

BigDecimal setScale and round

One important point that is alluded to but not directly addressed is the difference between "precision" and "scale" and how they are used in the two statements. "precision" is the total number of significant digits in a number. "scale" is the number of digits to the right of the decimal point.

The MathContext constructor only accepts precision and RoundingMode as arguments, and therefore scale is never specified in the first statement.

setScale() obviously accepts scale as an argument, as well as RoundingMode, however precision is never specified in the second statement.

If you move the decimal point one place to the right, the difference will become clear:

// 1.
new BigDecimal("35.3456").round(new MathContext(4, RoundingMode.HALF_UP));
//result = 35.35
// 2.
new BigDecimal("35.3456").setScale(4, RoundingMode.HALF_UP);
// result = 35.3456

How to cache data in a MVC application

I'm referring to TT's post and suggest the following approach:

Reference the System.Web dll in your model and use System.Web.Caching.Cache

public string[] GetNames()
{
    var noms = Cache["names"];
    if(noms == null)
    {
        noms = DB.GetNames();
        Cache["names"] = noms;
    }

    return ((string[])noms);
}

You should not return a value re-read from the cache, since you'll never know if at that specific moment it is still in the cache. Even if you inserted it in the statement before, it might already be gone or has never been added to the cache - you just don't know.

So you add the data read from the database and return it directly, not re-reading from the cache.

ROW_NUMBER() in MySQL

Solutions with cross join and comma won't work if your query has GROUP BY statement. For such cases you can use subselect:

SELECT (@row_number := @row_number + 1) AS rowNumber, res.*
FROM
(
  SELECT SUM(r.amount)
  FROM Results r
  WHERE username = 1
  GROUP BY r.amount
) res
CROSS JOIN (SELECT @row_number := 0) AS dummy

Synchronizing a local Git repository with a remote one

The permanent fix if one wants to create a new branch on the remote to mirror and track your local branch(or, vice-versa) is:

git config --global push.default current

I always configure my local git with this command after I do git clone. Although it can be applied anytime when the local-remote branch "Git fatal: The current branch has no upstream branch" error occurs.

Hope this helps. Much peace. :)

Angularjs checkbox checked by default on load and disables Select list when checked

How to run SQL in shell script

Code

PL_CONNECT_STRING="$DB_USERNAME/$DB_PASSWORD@$DB_SERVICE"

OUTPUT=$(sqlplus -s $PL_CONNECT_STRING <<-END-OF-SQL
           select count(*) from table;
exit;
END-OF-SQL)
echo "COMPLETED GATHER STATS $OUTPUT";

Explanation:

PL_CONNECT_STRING carry database username, password and it service name

sqlplus is used to connect the Database with PL_CONNECT_STRING details

END-OF-SQL tag contain the query which you want to execute

echo is used to print the output of the query

NOTE: You can give multiple Query inside the END-OF-SQL tag, so its useful for batch execution as well

Difference between static memory allocation and dynamic memory allocation

There are three types of allocation — static, automatic, and dynamic.

Static Allocation means, that the memory for your variables is allocated when the program starts. The size is fixed when the program is created. It applies to global variables, file scope variables, and variables qualified with static defined inside functions.

Automatic memory allocation occurs for (non-static) variables defined inside functions, and is usually stored on the stack (though the C standard doesn't mandate that a stack is used). You do not have to reserve extra memory using them, but on the other hand, have also limited control over the lifetime of this memory. E.g: automatic variables in a function are only there until the function finishes.

void func() {
    int i; /* `i` only exists during `func` */
}

Dynamic memory allocation is a bit different. You now control the exact size and the lifetime of these memory locations. If you don't free it, you'll run into memory leaks, which may cause your application to crash, since at some point of time, system cannot allocate more memory.

int* func() {
    int* mem = malloc(1024);
    return mem;
}

int* mem = func(); /* still accessible */

In the upper example, the allocated memory is still valid and accessible, even though the function terminated. When you are done with the memory, you have to free it:

free(mem);

'names' attribute must be the same length as the vector

Depending on what you're doing in the loop, the fact that the %in% operator returns a vector might be an issue; consider a simple example:

c1 <- c("one","two","three","more","more")
c2 <- c("seven","five","three")

if(c1%in%c2) {
    print("hello")
}

then the following warning is issued:

Warning message:
In if (c1 %in% c2) { :
  the condition has length > 1 and only the first element will be used

if something in your if statement is dependent on a specific number of elements, and they don't match, then it is possible to obtain the error you see

Check if an array contains duplicate values

Here's an O(n) solution:

function hasDupes(arr) {
  /* temporary object */
  var uniqOb = {};
  /* create object attribute with name=value in array, this will not keep dupes*/
  for (var i in arr)
    uniqOb[arr[i]] = "";
  /* if object's attributes match array, then no dupes! */
  if (arr.length == Object.keys(uniqOb).length)
    alert('NO dupes');
  else
    alert('HAS dupes');

}
var arr = ["1/1/2016", "1/1/2016", "2/1/2016"];
hasDupes(arr);

How to handle floats and decimal separators with html5 input type number

Use valueAsNumber instead of .val().

input . valueAsNumber [ = value ]

Returns a number representing the form control's value, if applicable; otherwise, returns null.
Can be set, to change the value.
Throws an INVALID_STATE_ERR exception if the control is neither date- or time-based nor numeric.

center MessageBox in parent form

Try this, it's simple enough to justify the time...

This is for Win32 API, written in C. Translate it as you need...

case WM_NOTIFY:{
  HWND X=FindWindow("#32770",NULL);
  if(GetParent(X)==H_frame){int Px,Py,Sx,Sy; RECT R1,R2;
    GetWindowRect(hwnd,&R1); GetWindowRect(X,&R2);
    Sx=R2.right-R2.left,Px=R1.left+(R1.right-R1.left)/2-Sx/2;
    Sy=R2.bottom-R2.top,Py=R1.top+(R1.bottom-R1.top)/2-Sy/2;
    MoveWindow(X,Px,Py,Sx,Sy,1);
  }
} break;

Add that to the WndProc code... You can set position as you like, in this case it just centres over the main program window. It will do this for any messagebox, or file open/save dialog, and likely some other native controls. I'm not sure, but I think you may need to include COMMCTRL or COMMDLG to use this, at least, you will if you want open/save dialogs.

I experimented with looking at the notify codes and hwndFrom of NMHDR, then decided it was just as effective, and far easier, not to. If you really want to be very specific, tell FindWindow to look for a unique caption (title) you give to the window you want it to find.

This fires before the messagebox is drawn onscreen, so if you set a global flag to indicate when action is done by your code, and look for a unique caption, you be sure that actions you take will only occur once (there will likely be multiple notifiers). I haven't explored this in detail, but I managed get CreateWindow to put an edit box on a messagebox dialog. It looked as out of place as a rat's ear grafted onto the spine of a cloned pig, but it works. Doing things this way may be far easier than having to roll your own.

Crow.

EDIT: Small correction to make sure that the right window is handled. Make sure that parent handles agree throughout, and this should work ok. It does for me, even with two instances of the same program...

How to save CSS changes of Styles panel of Chrome Developer Tools?

To answer the last part of your question about any extensions that can save changes, there is hotfix

It allows you to save changes from Chrome Dev Tools directly to GitHub. From there you can set up a post-receive hook on GitHub to automatically update your website.

JAVA_HOME does not point to the JDK

I know this question is old but the accepted answer does not work anymore and since this is the fist link on google search i'll tell how i solved this problem.

for eclipse using ubuntu:

go to Window->Preferences->Ant->Runtime->Select Ant_Home_Entries and click on add external jars then find in file explorer where your jdk is (default is in /usr/lib/jvm/) and in the lib folder of your jdk you will find the tool.jar. select this one and click apply.

try to build your project and things should work!

note: i hadn't used ant for a long time but needed it for ycsb couchbase workload generator (http://www.couchbase.com/wiki/display/couchbase/Load+Generator+Setup) if anyone is/was stuck on this.

How to implement 2D vector array?

We can easily use vector as 2d array. We use resize() method for this purpose. The code below can be helpful to understand this issue.

Code Snippet :

#include<bits/stdc++.h>
using namespace std;

int main()
{
    ios::sync_with_stdio(false);
    int row, col;
    cin>>row>>col;

    vector <vector<int>> v;
    v.resize(col,vector<int>(row));

    //v = {{1,2,3}, {4,5,6}, {7,8,9}};

    /** input from use **/
    for(int i=0; i<row; i++)
    {
       for(int j=0; j<col; j++)
       {
          cin>>v[i][j];
       }
    }

    for(int i=0;i<row; i++)
    {
       for(int j=0;j<col;j++)
       {
          cout<<v[i][j]<<" ";
       }
    }
    return 0;
}

What is secret key for JWT based authentication and how to generate it?

The algorithm (HS256) used to sign the JWT means that the secret is a symmetric key that is known by both the sender and the receiver. It is negotiated and distributed out of band. Hence, if you're the intended recipient of the token, the sender should have provided you with the secret out of band.

If you're the sender, you can use an arbitrary string of bytes as the secret, it can be generated or purposely chosen. You have to make sure that you provide the secret to the intended recipient out of band.

For the record, the 3 elements in the JWT are not base64-encoded but base64url-encoded, which is a variant of base64 encoding that results in a URL-safe value.

How merge two objects array in angularjs?

This works for me :

Trigger a keypress/keydown/keyup event in JS/jQuery?

First of all, I need to say that sample from Sionnach733 worked flawlessly. Some users complain about absent of actual examples. Here is my two cents. I've been working on mouse click simulation when using this site: https://www.youtube.com/tv. You can open any video and try run this code. It performs switch to next video.

function triggerEvent(el, type, keyCode) {
    if ('createEvent' in document) {
            // modern browsers, IE9+
            var e = document.createEvent('HTMLEvents');
            e.keyCode = keyCode;
            e.initEvent(type, false, true);
            el.dispatchEvent(e);
    } else {
        // IE 8
        var e = document.createEventObject();
        e.keyCode = keyCode;
        e.eventType = type;
        el.fireEvent('on'+e.eventType, e);
    }
}

var nextButton = document.getElementsByClassName('icon-player-next')[0];
triggerEvent(nextButton, 'keyup', 13); // simulate mouse/enter key press

True and False for && logic and || Logic table

You probably mean a truth table for the boolean operators, which displays the result of the usual boolean operations (&&, ||). This table is not language-specific, but can be found e.g. here.

A simple jQuery form validation script

you can use jquery validator for that but you need to add jquery.validate.js and jquery.form.js file for that. after including validator file define your validation something like this.

<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#formID").validate({
    rules :{
        "data[User][name]" : {
            required : true
        }
    },
    messages :{
        "data[User][name]" : {
            required : 'Enter username'
        }
    }
    });
});
</script>

You can see required : true same there is many more property like for email you can define email : true for number number : true

Parsing xml using powershell

First step is to load your xml string into an XmlDocument, using powershell's unique ability to cast strings to [xml]

$doc = [xml]@'
<xml>
    <Section name="BackendStatus">
        <BEName BE="crust" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="pizza" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="pie" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="bread" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="Kulcha" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="kulfi" Status="1" />
        <BEName BE="cheese" Status="1" />
    </Section>
</xml>
'@

Powershell makes it really easy to parse xml with the dot notation. This statement will produce a sequence of XmlElements for your BEName elements:

$doc.xml.Section.BEName

Then you can pipe these objects into the where-object cmdlet to filter down the results. You can use ? as a shortcut for where

$doc.xml.Section.BEName | ? { $_.Status -eq 1 }

The expression inside the braces will be evaluated for each XmlElement in the pipeline, and only those that have a Status of 1 will be returned. The $_ operator refers to the current object in the pipeline (an XmlElement).

If you need to do something for every object in your pipeline, you can pipe the objects into the foreach-object cmdlet, which executes a block for every object in the pipeline. % is a shortcut for foreach:

$doc.xml.Section.BEName | ? { $_.Status -eq 1 } | % { $_.BE + " is delicious" }

Powershell is great at this stuff. It's really easy to assemble pipelines of objects, filter pipelines, and do operations on each object in the pipeline.

performSelector may cause a leak because its selector is unknown

As a workaround until the compiler allows overriding the warning, you can use the runtime

objc_msgSend(_controller, NSSelectorFromString(@"someMethod"));

instead of

[_controller performSelector:NSSelectorFromString(@"someMethod")];

You'll have to

#import <objc/message.h>

Boolean operators && and ||

The answer about "short-circuiting" is potentially misleading, but has some truth (see below). In the R/S language, && and || only evaluate the first element in the first argument. All other elements in a vector or list are ignored regardless of the first ones value. Those operators are designed to work with the if (cond) {} else{} construction and to direct program control rather than construct new vectors.. The & and the | operators are designed to work on vectors, so they will be applied "in parallel", so to speak, along the length of the longest argument. Both vectors need to be evaluated before the comparisons are made. If the vectors are not the same length, then recycling of the shorter argument is performed.

When the arguments to && or || are evaluated, there is "short-circuiting" in that if any of the values in succession from left to right are determinative, then evaluations cease and the final value is returned.

> if( print(1) ) {print(2)} else {print(3)}
[1] 1
[1] 2
> if(FALSE && print(1) ) {print(2)} else {print(3)} # `print(1)` not evaluated
[1] 3
> if(TRUE && print(1) ) {print(2)} else {print(3)}
[1] 1
[1] 2
> if(TRUE && !print(1) ) {print(2)} else {print(3)}
[1] 1
[1] 3
> if(FALSE && !print(1) ) {print(2)} else {print(3)}
[1] 3

The advantage of short-circuiting will only appear when the arguments take a long time to evaluate. That will typically occur when the arguments are functions that either process larger objects or have mathematical operations that are more complex.

How to check if an integer is within a range of numbers in PHP?

I created a function to check if times in an array overlap somehow:

    /**
     * Function to check if there are overlapping times in an array of \DateTime objects.
     *
     * @param $ranges
     *
     * @return \DateTime[]|bool
     */
    public function timesOverlap($ranges) {
        foreach ($ranges as $k1 => $t1) {
            foreach ($ranges as $k2 => $t2) {
                if ($k1 != $k2) {

Get User Selected Range

Selection is its own object within VBA. It functions much like a Range object.

Selection and Range do not share all the same properties and methods, though, so for ease of use it might make sense just to create a range and set it equal to the Selection, then you can deal with it programmatically like any other range.

Dim myRange as Range
Set myRange = Selection

What is CMake equivalent of 'configure --prefix=DIR && make all install '?

Regarding Bruce Adams answer:

Your answer creates dangerous confusion. DESTDIR is intended for installs out of the root tree. It allows one to see what would be installed in the root tree if one did not specify DESTDIR. PREFIX is the base directory upon which the real installation is based.

For example, PREFIX=/usr/local indicates that the final destination of a package is /usr/local. Using DESTDIR=$HOME will install the files as if $HOME was the root (/). If, say DESTDIR, was /tmp/destdir, one could see what 'make install' would affect. In that spirit, DESTDIR should never affect the built objects.

A makefile segment to explain it:

install:
    cp program $DESTDIR$PREFIX/bin/program

Programs must assume that PREFIX is the base directory of the final (i.e. production) directory. The possibility of symlinking a program installed in DESTDIR=/something only means that the program does not access files based upon PREFIX as it would simply not work. cat(1) is a program that (in its simplest form) can run from anywhere. Here is an example that won't:

prog.pseudo.in:
    open("@prefix@/share/prog.db")
    ...

prog:
    sed -e "s/@prefix@/$PREFIX/" prog.pseudo.in > prog.pseudo
    compile prog.pseudo

install:
    cp prog $DESTDIR$PREFIX/bin/prog
    cp prog.db $DESTDIR$PREFIX/share/prog.db

If you tried to run prog from elsewhere than $PREFIX/bin/prog, prog.db would never be found as it is not in its expected location.

Finally, /etc/alternatives really does not work this way. There are symlinks to programs installed in the root tree (e.g. vi -> /usr/bin/nvi, vi -> /usr/bin/vim, etc.).

How to parse a CSV file in Bash?

You need to use IFS instead of -d:

while IFS=, read -r col1 col2
do
    echo "I got:$col1|$col2"
done < myfile.csv

Note that for general purpose CSV parsing you should use a specialized tool which can handle quoted fields with internal commas, among other issues that Bash can't handle by itself. Examples of such tools are cvstool and csvkit.

Calculating distance between two points (Latitude, Longitude)

Add jars to a Spark Job - spark-submit

Other configurable Spark option relating to jars and classpath, in case of yarn as deploy mode are as follows
From the spark documentation,

spark.yarn.jars

List of libraries containing Spark code to distribute to YARN containers. By default, Spark on YARN will use Spark jars installed locally, but the Spark jars can also be in a world-readable location on HDFS. This allows YARN to cache it on nodes so that it doesn't need to be distributed each time an application runs. To point to jars on HDFS, for example, set this configuration to hdfs:///some/path. Globs are allowed.

spark.yarn.archive

An archive containing needed Spark jars for distribution to the YARN cache. If set, this configuration replaces spark.yarn.jars and the archive is used in all the application's containers. The archive should contain jar files in its root directory. Like with the previous option, the archive can also be hosted on HDFS to speed up file distribution.

Users can configure this parameter to specify their jars, which inturn gets included in Spark driver's classpath.

How to upload files in asp.net core?

You can add a new property of type IFormFile to your view model

public class CreatePost
{
   public string ImageCaption { set;get; }
   public string ImageDescription { set;get; }
   public IFormFile MyImage { set; get; }
}

and in your GET action method, we will create an object of this view model and send to the view.

public IActionResult Create()
{
   return View(new CreatePost());
}

Now in your Create view which is strongly typed to our view model, have a form tag which has the enctype attribute set to "multipart/form-data"

@model CreatePost
<form asp-action="Create" enctype="multipart/form-data">

    <input asp-for="ImageCaption"/>
    <input asp-for="ImageDescription"/>
    <input asp-for="MyImage"/>

    <input type="submit"/>
</form>

And your HttpPost action to handle the form posting

[HttpPost]
public IActionResult Create(CreatePost model)
{
   var img = model.MyImage;
   var imgCaption = model.ImageCaption;

   //Getting file meta data
   var fileName = Path.GetFileName(model.MyImage.FileName);
   var contentType = model.MyImage.ContentType;

   // do something with the above data
   // to do : return something
}

If you want to upload the file to some directory in your app, you should use IHostingEnvironment to get the webroot path. Here is a working sample.

public class HomeController : Controller
{
    private readonly IHostingEnvironment hostingEnvironment;
    public HomeController(IHostingEnvironment environment)
    {
        hostingEnvironment = environment;
    }
    [HttpPost]
    public IActionResult Create(CreatePost model)
    {
        // do other validations on your model as needed
        if (model.MyImage != null)
        {
            var uniqueFileName = GetUniqueFileName(model.MyImage.FileName);
            var uploads = Path.Combine(hostingEnvironment.WebRootPath, "uploads");
            var filePath = Path.Combine(uploads,uniqueFileName);
            model.MyImage.CopyTo(new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Create));

            //to do : Save uniqueFileName to your db table
        }
        // to do : Return something
        return RedirectToAction("Index","Home");
    }
    private string GetUniqueFileName(string fileName)
    {
        fileName = Path.GetFileName(fileName);
        return  Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(fileName)
                  + "_"
                  + Guid.NewGuid().ToString().Substring(0, 4)
                  + Path.GetExtension(fileName);
    }
}

This will save the file to uploads folder inside wwwwroot directory of your app with a random file name generated using Guids ( to prevent overwriting of files with same name)

Here we are using a very simple GetUniqueName method which will add 4 chars from a guid to the end of the file name to make it somewhat unique. You can update the method to make it more sophisticated as needed.

Should you be storing the full url to the uploaded image in the database ?

No. Do not store the full url to the image in the database. What if tomorrow your business decides to change your company/product name from www.thefacebook.com to www.facebook.com ? Now you have to fix all the urls in the table!

What should you store ?

You should store the unique filename which you generated above(the uniqueFileName varibale we used above) to store the file name. When you want to display the image back, you can use this value (the filename) and build the url to the image.

For example, you can do this in your view.

@{
    var imgFileName = "cats_46df.png";
}
<img src="~/uploads/@imgFileName"  alt="my img"/>

I just hardcoded an image name to imgFileName variable and used that. But you may read the stored file name from your database and set to your view model property and use that. Something like

<img src="~/uploads/@Model.FileName"  alt="my img"/>

Storing the image to table

If you want to save the file as bytearray/varbinary to your database, you may convert the IFormFile object to byte array like this

private byte[] GetByteArrayFromImage(IFormFile file)
{
    using (var target = new MemoryStream())
    {
        file.CopyTo(target);
        return target.ToArray();
    }
}

Now in your http post action method, you can call this method to generate the byte array from IFormFile and use that to save to your table. the below example is trying to save a Post entity object using entity framework.

[HttpPost]
public IActionResult Create(CreatePost model)
{
    //Create an object of your entity class and map property values
    var post=new Post() { ImageCaption = model.ImageCaption };

    if (model.MyImage != null)
    {
       post.Image =  GetByteArrayFromImage(model.MyImage);
    }
    _context.Posts.Add(post);
    _context.SaveChanges();
    return RedirectToAction("Index","Home");
}

What is @ModelAttribute in Spring MVC?

Annotation that binds a method parameter or method return value to a named model attribute, exposed to a web view.

public String add(@ModelAttribute("specified") Model model) {
    ...
}

How to check if a Docker image with a specific tag exist locally?

In case you are trying to search for a docker image from a docker registry, I guess the easiest way to check if a docker image is present is by using the Docker V2 REST API Tags list service

Example:-

curl $CURLOPTS -H "Authorization: Bearer $token" "https://hub.docker.com:4443/v2/your-repo-name/tags/list"

if the above result returns 200Ok with a list of image tags, then we know that image exists

{"name":"your-repo-name","tags":["1.0.0.1533677221","1.0.0.1533740305","1.0.0.1535659921","1.0.0.1535665433","latest"]}

else if you see something like

{"errors":[{"code":"NAME_UNKNOWN","message":"repository name not known to registry","detail":{"name":"your-repo-name"}}]}

then you know for sure that image doesn't exist.

Setting the default ssh key location

man ssh gives me this options would could be useful.

-i identity_file Selects a file from which the identity (private key) for RSA or DSA authentication is read. The default is ~/.ssh/identity for protocol version 1, and ~/.ssh/id_rsa and ~/.ssh/id_dsa for pro- tocol version 2. Identity files may also be specified on a per- host basis in the configuration file. It is possible to have multiple -i options (and multiple identities specified in config- uration files).

So you could create an alias in your bash config with something like

alias ssh="ssh -i /path/to/private_key"

I haven't looked into a ssh configuration file, but like the -i option this too could be aliased

-F configfile Specifies an alternative per-user configuration file. If a configuration file is given on the command line, the system-wide configuration file (/etc/ssh/ssh_config) will be ignored. The default for the per-user configuration file is ~/.ssh/config.

Simulating Key Press C#

Another alternative to simulating a F5 key press would be to simply host the WebBrowser control in the Window Forms application. You use the WebBrowser.Navigate method to load your web page and then use a standard Timer and on each tick of the timer you just re-Navigate to the url which will reload the page.

Absolute vs relative URLs

For every system that support relative URI resolution, both relative and absolute URIs do serve the same goal: referencing. And they can be used interchangeably. So you could decide in each case differently. Technically, they provide the same referencing.

To be precise, with each relative URI there already is an absolute URI. And that's the base-URI that relative URI is resolved against. So a relative URI is actually a feature on top of absolute URIs.

And that's also why with relative URIs you can do more as with an absolute URI alone - this is especially important for static websites which otherwise couldn't be as flexible to maintain as compared to absolute URIs.

These positive effects of relative URI resolution can be exploited for dynamic web-application development as well. The inflexibility absolute URIs do introduce are also easier to cope up with, in a dynamic environment, so for some developers that are unsure about URI resolution and how to properly implement and manage it (not that it's always easy) do often opt into using absolute URIs in a dynamic part of a website as they can introduce other dynamic features (e.g. configuration variable containing the URI prefix) so to work around the inflexibility.

So what is the benefit then in using absolute URIs? Technically there ain't, but one I'd say: Relative URIs are more complex because they need to be resolved against the so called absolute base-URI. Even the resolution is strictly define since years, you might run over a client that has a mistake in URI resolution. As absolute URIs do not need any resolution, using absolute URIs have no risk to run into faulty client behaviour with relative URI resolution. So how high is that risk actually? Well, it's very rare. I only know about one Internet browser that had an issue with relative URI resolution. And that was not generally but only in a very (obscure) case.

Next to the HTTP client (browser) it's perhaps more complex for an author of hypertext documents or code as well. Here the absolute URI has the benefit that it is easier to test, as you can just enter it as-is into your browsers address bar. However, if it's not just your one-hour job, it's most often of more benefit to you to actually understand absolute and relative URI handling so that you can actually exploit the benefits of relative linking.

How can I convert a Unix timestamp to DateTime and vice versa?

A Unix tick is 1 second (if I remember well), and a .NET tick is 100 nanoseconds.

How read Doc or Docx file in java?

Here is the code of ReadDoc/docx.java: This will read a dox/docx file and print its content to the console. you can customize it your way.

        File file = null;
        WordExtractor extractor = null;
        try
        {

            file = new File("c:\\New.doc");
            FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(file.getAbsolutePath());
            HWPFDocument document = new HWPFDocument(fis);
            extractor = new WordExtractor(document);
            String[] fileData = extractor.getParagraphText();
            for (int i = 0; i < fileData.length; i++)
            {
                if (fileData[i] != null)
                    System.out.println(fileData[i]);
            }
        }

            exep.printStackTrace();
        }

How can I do division with variables in a Linux shell?

Why not use let; I find it much easier. Here's an example you may find useful:

start=`date +%s`
# ... do something that takes a while ...
sleep 71

end=`date +%s`
let deltatime=end-start
let hours=deltatime/3600
let minutes=(deltatime/60)%60
let seconds=deltatime%60
printf "Time spent: %d:%02d:%02d\n" $hours $minutes $seconds

Another simple example - calculate number of days since 1970:

let days=$(date +%s)/86400

Bootstrap DatePicker, how to set the start date for tomorrow?

There is no official datepicker for bootstrap; as such, you should explicitly state which one you're using.

If you're using eternicode/bootstrap-datepicker, there's a startDate option. As discussed directly under the Options section in the README:

All options that take a "Date" can handle a Date object; a String formatted according to the given format; or a timedelta relative to today, eg '-1d', '+6m +1y', etc, where valid units are 'd' (day), 'w' (week), 'm' (month), and 'y' (year).

So you would do:

$('#datepicker').datepicker({
    startDate: '+1d'
})

What is the easiest way to push an element to the beginning of the array?

array = ["foo"]
array.unshift "bar"
array
=> ["bar", "foo"]

be warned, it's destructive!

operator << must take exactly one argument

The problem is that you define it inside the class, which

a) means the second argument is implicit (this) and

b) it will not do what you want it do, namely extend std::ostream.

You have to define it as a free function:

class A { /* ... */ };
std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream&, const A& a);

Oracle pl-sql escape character (for a " ' ")

you can use ESCAPE like given example below

The '_' wild card character is used to match exactly one character, while '%' is used to match zero or more occurrences of any characters. These characters can be escaped in SQL.

SELECT name FROM emp WHERE id LIKE '%/_%' ESCAPE '/';

The same works inside PL/SQL:

 if( id like '%/_%' ESCAPE '/' )

This applies only to like patterns, for example in an insert there is no need to escape _ or %, they are used as plain characters anyhow. In arbitrary strings only ' needs to be escaped by ''.

Faking an RS232 Serial Port

I know this is an old post, but in case someone else happens upon this question, one good option is Virtual Serial Port Emulator (VSPE) from Eterlogic It provides an API for creating kernel mode virtual comport devices, i.e. connectors, mappers, splitters etc.
However, some of the advertised capabilities were really not capabilities at all.

EDIT
A much better choice, Eltima. This product is fully baked. Good developer tech support. The product did all it claimed to do. Product options include both desktop applications, as well as software development kits with APIs.

Neither of these products are open source, or free. However, as other posts here have pointed out, there are other options. Here is a list of various serial utilities:

Efficiently convert rows to columns in sql server

This is rather a method than just a single script but gives you much more flexibility.

First of all There are 3 objects:

  1. User defined TABLE type [ColumnActionList] -> holds data as parameter
  2. SP [proc_PivotPrepare] -> prepares our data
  3. SP [proc_PivotExecute] -> execute the script

CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ColumnActionList] AS TABLE ( [ID] [smallint] NOT NULL, [ColumnName] nvarchar NOT NULL, [Action] nchar NOT NULL ); GO

    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[proc_PivotPrepare]
    (
    @DB_Name        nvarchar(128),
    @TableName      nvarchar(128)
    )
    AS
            SELECT @DB_Name = ISNULL(@DB_Name,db_name())
    DECLARE @SQL_Code nvarchar(max)

    DECLARE @MyTab TABLE (ID smallint identity(1,1), [Column_Name] nvarchar(128), [Type] nchar(1), [Set Action SQL] nvarchar(max));

    SELECT @SQL_Code        =   'SELECT [<| SQL_Code |>] = '' '' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '
                                        + 'SELECT ''----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------'' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '
                                        + 'SELECT ''-----| Declare user defined type [ID] / [ColumnName] / [PivotAction] '' '

                                        END

SELECT * FROM ##ALL_Dimentions;
EXECUTE SP_EXECUTESQL @FinalCode;

From executing the first query (by passing source DB and table name) you will get a pre-created execution query for the second SP, all you have to do is define is the column from your source: + Stable + Value (will be used to concentrate values based on that) + Dim (column you want to use to pivot by)

Names and datatypes will be defined automatically!

I cant recommend it for any production environments but does the job for adhoc BI requests.

Add views below toolbar in CoordinatorLayout

I managed to fix this by adding:

android:layout_marginTop="?android:attr/actionBarSize"

to the FrameLayout like so:

 <FrameLayout
        android:id="@+id/content"
        android:layout_marginTop="?android:attr/actionBarSize"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent"
       />

Latex Multiple Linebreaks

Insert some vertical space

blah blah blah \\
\vspace{1cm}

to scale to the font, use ex (the height of a lowercase "x") as the unit, and there are various predefined lengths related to the line spacing available, you might be particularly interested in baselineskip.

What is the difference between HTTP status code 200 (cache) vs status code 304?

This threw me for a long time too. The first thing I'd verify is that you're not reloading the page by clicking the refresh button, that will always issue a conditional request for resources and will return 304s for many of the page elements. Instead go up to the url bar select the page and hit enter as if you had just typed in the same URL again, that will give you a better indicator of what's being cached properly. If your PHP app is holding open many SQL Server connections, then, as you may know, you have a problem with your app's database code. It should be releasing/disposing those connections after use and using connection pooling. Have a look here for a decent article on the topic...

Understanding the results of Execute Explain Plan in Oracle SQL Developer

Here is a reference for using EXPLAIN PLAN with Oracle: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/ex_plan.htm), with specific information about the columns found here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/ex_plan.htm#i18300

Your mention of 'FULL' indicates to me that the query is doing a full-table scan to find your data. This is okay, in certain situations, otherwise an indicator of poor indexing / query writing.

Generally, with explain plans, you want to ensure your query is utilizing keys, thus Oracle can find the data you're looking for with accessing the least number of rows possible. Ultimately, you can sometime only get so far with the architecture of your tables. If the costs remain too high, you may have to think about adjusting the layout of your schema to be more performance based.

Truth value of a Series is ambiguous. Use a.empty, a.bool(), a.item(), a.any() or a.all()

This excellent answer explains very well what is happening and provides a solution. I would like to add another solution that might be suitable in similar cases: using the query method:

result = result.query("(var > 0.25) or (var < -0.25)")

See also http://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/indexing.html#indexing-query.

(Some tests with a dataframe I'm currently working with suggest that this method is a bit slower than using the bitwise operators on series of booleans: 2 ms vs. 870 µs)

A piece of warning: At least one situation where this is not straightforward is when column names happen to be python expressions. I had columns named WT_38hph_IP_2, WT_38hph_input_2 and log2(WT_38hph_IP_2/WT_38hph_input_2) and wanted to perform the following query: "(log2(WT_38hph_IP_2/WT_38hph_input_2) > 1) and (WT_38hph_IP_2 > 20)"

I obtained the following exception cascade:

  • KeyError: 'log2'
  • UndefinedVariableError: name 'log2' is not defined
  • ValueError: "log2" is not a supported function

I guess this happened because the query parser was trying to make something from the first two columns instead of identifying the expression with the name of the third column.

A possible workaround is proposed here.

How to kill a nodejs process in Linux?

Run ps aux | grep nodejs, find the PID of the process you're looking for, then run kill starting with SIGTERM (kill -15 25239). If that doesn't work then use SIGKILL instead, replacing -15 with -9.

How to make Unicode charset in cmd.exe by default?

Save the following into a file with ".reg" suffix:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\%SystemRoot%_system32_cmd.exe]
"CodePage"=dword:0000fde9

Double click this file, and regedit will import it.

It basically sets the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Console\%SystemRoot%_system32_cmd.exe\CodePage to 0xfde9 (65001 in decimal system).

Can I mask an input text in a bat file?

I used Blorgbeard's above solution which is actually great in my opinion. Then I enhanced it as follows:

  1. Google for ansicon
  2. Download zip file and sample text file.
  3. Install (that means copy 2 files into system32)

Use it like this:

@echo off
ansicon -p
set /p pwd=Password:ESC[0;37;47m
echo ESC[0m

This switches the console to gray on gray for your password entry and switches back when you are done. The ESC should actually be an unprintable character, which you can copy over from the downloaded sample text file (appears like a left-arrow in Notepad) into your batch file. You can use the sample text file to find the codes for all color combinations.

If you are not admin of the machine, you will probably be able to install the files in a non-system directory, then you have to append the directory to the PATH in your script before calling the program and using the escape sequences. This could even be the current directory probably, if you need a non-admin distributable package of just a few files.

Show DataFrame as table in iPython Notebook

It seems you can just display both dfs using a comma in between in display. I noticed this on some notebooks on github. This code is from Jake VanderPlas's notebook.

class display(object):
    """Display HTML representation of multiple objects"""
    template = """<div style="float: left; padding: 10px;">
    <p style='font-family:"Courier New", Courier, monospace'>{0}</p>{1}
    </div>"""
    def __init__(self, *args):
        self.args = args

    def _repr_html_(self):
        return '\n'.join(self.template.format(a, eval(a)._repr_html_())
                     for a in self.args)

    def __repr__(self):
        return '\n\n'.join(a + '\n' + repr(eval(a))
                       for a in self.args)

display('df', "df2")

When is the init() function run?

See this picture. :)

import --> const --> var --> init()

  1. If a package imports other packages, the imported packages are initialized first.

  2. Current package's constant initialized then.

  3. Current package's variables are initialized then.

  4. Finally, init() function of current package is called.

A package can have multiple init functions (either in a single file or distributed across multiple files) and they are called in the order in which they are presented to the compiler.

A package will be initialised only once even if it is imported from multiple packages.

Get element type with jQuery

Docker build gives "unable to prepare context: context must be a directory: /Users/tempUser/git/docker/Dockerfile"

It's simple, whenever Docker build is run, docker wants to know, what's the image name, so we need to pass -t : . Now make sure you are in the same directory where you have your Dockerfile and run

docker build -t <image_name>:<version> . Example docker build -t my_apache:latest . assuming you are in the same directory as your Dockerfile otherwise pass -f flag and the Dockerfile.

docker build -t my_apache:latest -f ~/Users/documents/myapache/Dockerfile

Index Error: list index out of range (Python)

Generally it means that you are providing an index for which a list element does not exist.

E.g, if your list was [1, 3, 5, 7], and you asked for the element at index 10, you would be well out of bounds and receive an error, as only elements 0 through 3 exist.

How to pass data between fragments

If you use Roboguice you can use the EventManager in Roboguice to pass data around without using the Activity as an interface. This is quite clean IMO.

If you're not using Roboguice you can use Otto too as a event bus: http://square.github.com/otto/

Update 20150909: You can also use Green Robot Event Bus or even RxJava now too. Depends on your use case.

how to convert object to string in java

Might not be so related to the issue above. However if you are looking for a way to serialize Java object as string, this could come in hand

package pt.iol.security;

import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream;
import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.ObjectInputStream;
import java.io.ObjectOutputStream;
import java.util.zip.GZIPInputStream;
import java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream;
import org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64;

public class ObjectUtil {

    static final Base64 base64 = new Base64();

    public static String serializeObjectToString(Object object) throws IOException {
        try (
                ByteArrayOutputStream arrayOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
                GZIPOutputStream gzipOutputStream = new GZIPOutputStream(arrayOutputStream);
                ObjectOutputStream objectOutputStream = new ObjectOutputStream(gzipOutputStream);) {
            objectOutputStream.writeObject(object);
            objectOutputStream.flush();
            return new String(base64.encode(arrayOutputStream.toByteArray()));
        }
    }

    public static Object deserializeObjectFromString(String objectString) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException {
        try (
                ByteArrayInputStream arrayInputStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(base64.decode(objectString));
                GZIPInputStream gzipInputStream = new GZIPInputStream(arrayInputStream);
                ObjectInputStream objectInputStream = new ObjectInputStream(gzipInputStream)) {
            return objectInputStream.readObject();
        }
    }
}

How to measure time elapsed on Javascript?

var seconds = 0;
setInterval(function () {
  seconds++;
}, 1000);

There you go, now you have a variable counting seconds elapsed. Since I don't know the context, you'll have to decide whether you want to attach that variable to an object or make it global.

Set interval is simply a function that takes a function as it's first parameter and a number of milliseconds to repeat the function as it's second parameter.

You could also solve this by saving and comparing times.

EDIT: This answer will provide very inconsistent results due to things such as the event loop and the way browsers may choose to pause or delay processing when a page is in a background tab. I strongly recommend using the accepted answer.

How to drop SQL default constraint without knowing its name?

Following solution will drop specific default constraint of a column from the table

Declare @Const NVARCHAR(256)

SET @Const = (
              SELECT TOP 1 'ALTER TABLE' + YOUR TABLE NAME +' DROP CONSTRAINT '+name

How to include() all PHP files from a directory?

this is just a modification of Karsten's code

function include_all_php($folder){

Can I use a :before or :after pseudo-element on an input field?

According to a note in the CSS 2.1 spec, the specification “does not fully define the interaction of :before and :after with replaced elements (such as IMG in HTML). This will be defined in more detail in a future specification.” Although input is not really a replaced element any more, the basic situation has not changed: the effect of :before and :after on it in unspecified and generally has no effect.

The solution is to find a different approach to the problem you are trying to address this way. Putting generated content into a text input control would be very misleading: to the user, it would appear to be part of the initial value in the control, but it cannot be modified – so it would appear to be something forced at the start of the control, but yet it would not be submitted as part of form data.

How to download image from url

Try this it worked for me

Write this in your Controller

public class DemoController: Controller

        public async Task<FileStreamResult> GetLogoImage(string logoimage)
        {
            string str = "" ;
            var filePath = Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/" + SubfolderName);//If subfolder exist otherwise leave.
            // DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(filePath);
            string[] filePaths = Directory.GetFiles(@filePath, "*.*");
            foreach (var fileTemp in filePaths)
            {
                  str= fileTemp.ToString();
            }
                return File(new MemoryStream(System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(str)), System.Web.MimeMapping.GetMimeMapping(str), Path.GetFileName(str));

Service located in another namespace

You can achieve this by deploying something at a higher layer than namespaced Services, like the service loadbalancer https://github.com/kubernetes/contrib/tree/master/service-loadbalancer. If you want to restrict it to a single namespace, use "--namespace=ns" argument (it defaults to all namespaces: https://github.com/kubernetes/contrib/blob/master/service-loadbalancer/service_loadbalancer.go#L715). This works well for L7, but is a little messy for L4.

SimpleDateFormat parsing date with 'Z' literal

Java doesn't parse ISO dates correctly.

Similar to McKenzie's answer.

Just fix the Z before parsing.

Code

String string = "2013-03-05T18:05:05.000Z";
String defaultTimezone = TimeZone.getDefault().getID();
Date date = (new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ")).parse(string.replaceAll("Z$", "+0000"));

System.out.println("string: " + string);
System.out.println("defaultTimezone: " + defaultTimezone);
System.out.println("date: " + (new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ")).format(date));

Result

string: 2013-03-05T18:05:05.000Z
defaultTimezone: America/New_York
date: 2013-03-05T13:05:05.000-0500

How do I programmatically get the GUID of an application in .NET 2.0

You should be able to read the GUID attribute of the assembly via reflection. This will get the GUID for the current assembly

Assembly asm = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly();
var attribs = (asm.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(GuidAttribute), true));
Console.WriteLine((attribs[0] as GuidAttribute).Value);

You can replace the GuidAttribute with other attributes as well, if you want to read things like AssemblyTitle, AssemblyVersion, etc.

You can also load another assembly (Assembly.LoadFrom and all) instead of getting the current assembly - if you need to read these attributes of external assemblies (for example, when loading a plugin).

Change font-weight of FontAwesome icons?

Another solution I've used to create lighter fontawesome icons, similar to the webkit-text-stroke approach but more portable, is to set the color of the icon to the same as the background (or transparent) and use text-shadow to create an outline:

.fa-outline-dark-gray {
    color: #fff;
    text-shadow: -1px -1px 0 #999,
            1px -1px 0 #999,
           -1px 1px 0 #999,
            1px 1px 0 #999;
}

It doesn't work in ie <10, but at least it's not restricted to webkit browsers.

Removing object from array in Swift 3

The correct and working one-line solution for deleting a unique object (named "objectToRemove") from an array of these objects (named "array") in Swift 3 is:

if let index = array.enumerated().filter( { $0.element === objectToRemove }).map({ $0.offset }).first {
   array.remove(at: index)
}

DatabaseError: current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block?

This is very strange behavior for me. I'm surprised that no one thought of savepoints. In my code failing query was expected behavior:

from django.db import transaction
@transaction.commit_on_success
def update():
    skipped = 0
    for old_model in OldModel.objects.all():
        try:
            Model.objects.create(
                group_id=old_model.group_uuid,
                file_id=old_model.file_uuid,
            )
        except IntegrityError:
            skipped += 1
    return skipped

I have changed code this way to use savepoints:

from django.db import transaction
@transaction.commit_on_success
def update():
    skipped = 0
    sid = transaction.savepoint()
    for old_model in OldModel.objects.all():
        try:
            Model.objects.create(
                group_id=old_model.group_uuid,
                file_id=old_model.file_uuid,
            )
        except IntegrityError:
            skipped += 1
            transaction.savepoint_rollback(sid)
        else:
            transaction.savepoint_commit(sid)
    return skipped

How to display pie chart data values of each slice in chart.js

Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier - Two GUIDs

MSDN Documentation Here

To add a bit of context to M.Ali's Answer you can convert a string to a uniqueidentifier using the following code

   SELECT CONVERT(uniqueidentifier,'DF215E10-8BD4-4401-B2DC-99BB03135F2E')

If that doesn't work check to make sure you have entered a valid GUID

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token u in JSON at position 0

I had this issue for 2 days, let me show you how I fixed it.

This was how the code looked when I was getting the error:

request.onload = function() {
    // This is where we begin accessing the Json
    let data = JSON.parse(this.response);
    console.log(data)
}

This is what I changed to get the result I wanted:

request.onload = function() {
    // This is where we begin accessing the Json
    let data = JSON.parse(this.responseText);
    console.log(data)
}

So all I really did was change this.response to this.responseText.

Difference between virtual and abstract methods

First of all you should know the difference between a virtual and abstract method.

Abstract Method

  • Abstract Method resides in abstract class and it has no body.
  • Abstract Method must be overridden in non-abstract child class.

Virtual Method

  • Virtual Method can reside in abstract and non-abstract class.
  • It is not necessary to override virtual method in derived but it can be.
  • Virtual method must have body ....can be overridden by "override keyword".....

How is "mvn clean install" different from "mvn install"?

You can call more than one target goal with maven. mvn clean install calls clean first, then install. You have to clean manually, because clean is not a standard target goal and not executed automatically on every install.

clean removes the target folder - it deletes all class files, the java docs, the jars, reports and so on. If you don't clean, then maven will only "do what has to be done", like it won't compile classes when the corresponding source files haven't changed (in brief).

we call it target in ant and goal in maven

how to get GET and POST variables with JQuery?

For GET parameters, you can grab them from document.location.search:

var $_GET = {};

document.location.search.replace(/\??(?:([^=]+)=([^&]*)&?)/g, function () {
    function decode(s) {
        return decodeURIComponent(s.split("+").join(" "));
    }

    $_GET[decode(arguments[1])] = decode(arguments[2]);
});

document.write($_GET["test"]);

For POST parameters, you can serialize the $_POST object in JSON format into a <script> tag:

<script type="text/javascript">
var $_POST = <?php echo json_encode($_POST); ?>;

document.write($_POST["test"]);
</script>

While you're at it (doing things on server side), you might collect the GET parameters on PHP as well:

var $_GET = <?php echo json_encode($_GET); ?>;

Note: You'll need PHP version 5 or higher to use the built-in json_encode function.

Update: Here's a more generic implementation:

function getQueryParams(qs) {
    qs = qs.split("+").join(" ");
    var params = {},
        tokens,
        re = /[?&]?([^=]+)=([^&]*)/g;

    while (tokens = re.exec(qs)) {
        params[decodeURIComponent(tokens[1])]
            = decodeURIComponent(tokens[2]);
    }

    return params;
}

var $_GET = getQueryParams(document.location.search);

How to loop and render elements in React-native?

You would usually use map for that kind of thing.

buttonsListArr = initialArr.map(buttonInfo => (
  <Button ... key={buttonInfo[0]}>{buttonInfo[1]}</Button>
);

(key is a necessary prop whenever you do mapping in React. The key needs to be a unique identifier for the generated component)

As a side, I would use an object instead of an array. I find it looks nicer:

initialArr = [
  {
    id: 1,
    color: "blue",
    text: "text1"
  },
  {
    id: 2,
    color: "red",
    text: "text2"
  },
];

buttonsListArr = initialArr.map(buttonInfo => (
  <Button ... key={buttonInfo.id}>{buttonInfo.text}</Button>
);

Adding a leading zero to some values in column in MySQL

I had similar problem when importing phone number data from excel to mysql database. So a simple trick without the need to identify the length of the phone number (because the length of the phone numbers varied in my data):

UPDATE table SET phone_num = concat('0', phone_num)

I just concated 0 in front of the phone_num.

Selecting a row of pandas series/dataframe by integer index

I would normally go for .loc/.iloc as suggested by Ted, but one may also select a row by tranposing the DataFrame. To stay in the example above, df.T[2] gives you row 2 of df.

size of uint8, uint16 and uint32?

uint8, uint16, uint32, and uint64 are probably Microsoft-specific types.

As of the 1999 standard, C supports standard typedefs with similar meanings, defined in <stdint.h>: uint8_t, uint16_t, uint32_t, and uint64_t. I'll assume that the Microsoft-specific types are defined similarly. Microsoft does support <stdint.h>, at least as of Visual Studio 2010, but older code may use uint8 et al.

The predefined types char, short, int et al have sizes that vary from one C implementation to another. The C standard has certain minimum requirements (char is at least 8 bits, short and int are at least 16, long is at least 32, and each type in that list is at least as wide as the previous type), but permits some flexibility. For example, I've seen systems where int is 16, 32, or 64 bits.

char is almost always exactly 8 bits, but it's permitted to be wider. And plain char may be either signed or unsigned.

uint8_t is required to be an unsigned integer type that's exactly 8 bits wide. It's likely to be a typedef for unsigned char, though it might be a typedef for plain char if plain char happens to be unsigned. If there is no predefined 8-bit unsigned type, then uint8_t will not be defined at all.

Similarly, each uintN_t type is an unsigned type that's exactly N bits wide.

In addition, <stdint.h> defines corresponding signed intN_t types, as well as int_fastN_t and int_leastN_t types that are at least the specified width.

The [u]intN_t types are guaranteed to have no padding bits, so the size of each is exactly N bits. The signed intN_t types are required to use a 2's-complement representation.

Although uint32_t might be the same as unsigned int, for example, you shouldn't assume that. Use unsigned int when you need an unsigned integer type that's at least 16 bits wide, and that's the "natural" size for the current system. Use uint32_t when you need an unsigned integer type that's exactly 32 bits wide.

(And no, uint64 or uint64_t is not the same as double; double is a floating-point type.)

PHP substring extraction. Get the string before the first '/' or the whole string

Use explode()

$arr = explode("/", $string, 2);
$first = $arr[0];

In this case, I'm using the limit parameter to explode so that php won't scan the string any more than what's needed.

Serialize Property as Xml Attribute in Element

Kind of, use the XmlAttribute instead of XmlElement, but it won't look like what you want. It will look like the following:

<SomeModel SomeStringElementName="testData">
</SomeModel>

The only way I can think of to achieve what you want (natively) would be to have properties pointing to objects named SomeStringElementName and SomeInfoElementName where the class contained a single getter named "value". You could take this one step further and use DataContractSerializer so that the wrapper classes can be private. XmlSerializer won't read private properties.

// TODO: make the class generic so that an int or string can be used.
[Serializable]
public class SerializationClass
{
    public SerializationClass(string value)
    {
        this.Value = value;
    }

    [XmlAttribute("value")]
    public string Value { get; }
}

[Serializable]
public class SomeModel
{
    [XmlIgnore]
    public string SomeString { get; set; }

    [XmlIgnore]
    public int SomeInfo { get; set; }

    [XmlElement]
    public SerializationClass SomeStringElementName
    {
        get { return new SerializationClass(this.SomeString); }
    }
}

How to execute an external program from within Node.js?

exec has memory limitation of buffer size of 512k. In this case it is better to use spawn. With spawn one has access to stdout of executed command at run time

var spawn = require('child_process').spawn;
var prc = spawn('java',  ['-jar', '-Xmx512M', '-Dfile.encoding=utf8', 'script/importlistings.jar']);

//noinspection JSUnresolvedFunction
prc.stdout.setEncoding('utf8');
prc.stdout.on('data', function (data) {
    var str = data.toString()
    var lines = str.split(/(\r?\n)/g);
    console.log(lines.join(""));
});

prc.on('close', function (code) {

Or even you can try like

$(".nextbutton").click(function() {
    $('#form1').submit();
});

HtmlSpecialChars equivalent in Javascript?

Worth a read: http://bigdingus.com/2007/12/29/html-escaping-in-javascript/

escapeHTML: (function() {
 var MAP = {
   '&': '&amp;',
   '<': '&lt;',
   '>': '&gt;',
   '"': '&#34;',
   "'": '&#39;'
 };
  var repl = function(c) { return MAP[c]; };
  return function(s) {
    return s.replace(/[&<>'"]/g, repl);
  };
})()

Note: Only run this once. And don't run it on already encoded strings e.g. &amp; becomes &amp;amp;

In PHP, what is a closure and why does it use the "use" identifier?

Until very recent years, PHP has defined its AST and PHP interpreter has isolated the parser from the evaluation part. During the time when the closure is introduced, PHP's parser is highly coupled with the evaluation.

Therefore when the closure was firstly introduced to PHP, the interpreter has no method to know which which variables will be used in the closure, because it is not parsed yet. So user has to pleased the zend engine by explicit import, doing the homework that zend should do.

This is the so-called simple way in PHP.

How to add number of days in postgresql datetime

This will give you the deadline :

select id,
       title,
       created_at + interval '1' day * claim_window as deadline
from projects

Alternatively the function make_interval can be used:

select id,
       title,
       created_at + make_interval(days => claim_window) as deadline
from projects

To get all projects where the deadline is over, use:

select *
from (
  select id,
         created_at + interval '1' day * claim_window as deadline
  from projects
) t
where localtimestamp at time zone 'UTC' > deadline

How can I set the opacity or transparency of a Panel in WinForms?

This does work for me. In below example, Alpha range can be a value between 0 to 255. Previously, I made a mistake by thinking that it must be a value of percentage.

Dim x as integer = 230 Panel1.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(x, Color.Blue)

Fastest way to add an Item to an Array

Case C) is the fastest. Having this as an extension:

Public Module MyExtensions
    <Extension()> _
    Public Sub Add(Of T)(ByRef arr As T(), item As T)
        Array.Resize(arr, arr.Length + 1)
        arr(arr.Length - 1) = item
    End Sub
End Module

Usage:

Dim arr As Integer() = {1, 2, 3}
Dim newItem As Integer = 4
arr.Add(newItem)

' --> duration for adding 100.000 items: 1 msec
' --> duration for adding 100.000.000 items: 1168 msec

Solving sslv3 alert handshake failure when trying to use a client certificate

The solution for me on a CentOS 8 system was checking the System Cryptography Policy by verifying the /etc/crypto-policies/config reads the default value of DEFAULT rather than any other value.

Once changing this value to DEFAULT, run the following command:

/usr/bin/update-crypto-policies --set DEFAULT

Rerun the curl command and it should work.

How line ending conversions work with git core.autocrlf between different operating systems

Did some tests both on linux and windows. I use a test file containing lines ending in LF and also lines ending in CRLF.
File is committed , removed and then checked out. The value of core.autocrlf is set before commit and also before checkout. The result is below.

commit core.autocrlf false, remove, checkout core.autocrlf false: LF=>LF   CRLF=>CRLF
commit core.autocrlf false, remove, checkout core.autocrlf input: LF=>LF   CRLF=>CRLF

commit core.autocrlf input, remove, checkout core.autocrlf false: LF=>LF   CRLF=>LF
commit core.autocrlf input, remove, checkout core.autocrlf input: LF=>LF   CRLF=>LF
commit core.autocrlf input, remove, checkout core.autocrlf true : LF=>CRLF CRLF=>CRLF
commit core.autocrlf true, remove, checkout core.autocrlf false: LF=>LF   CRLF=>LF

commit core.autocrlf true,  remove, checkout core.autocrlf true : LF=>CRLF CRLF=>CRLF

Python Variable Declaration

Okay, first things first.

There is no such thing as "variable declaration" or "variable initialization" in Python.

There is simply what we call "assignment", but should probably just call "naming".

Assignment means "this name on the left-hand side now refers to the result of evaluating the right-hand side, regardless of what it referred to before (if anything)".

foo = 'bar' # the name 'foo' is now a name for the string 'bar'
foo = 2 * 3 # the name 'foo' stops being a name for the string 'bar',
# and starts being a name for the integer 6, resulting from the multiplication

As such, Python's names (a better term than "variables", arguably) don't have associated types; the values do. You can re-apply the same name to anything regardless of its type, but the thing still has behaviour that's dependent upon its type. The name is simply a way to refer to the value (object). This answers your second question: You don't create variables to hold a custom type. You don't create variables to hold any particular type. You don't "create" variables at all. You give names to objects.

Second point: Python follows a very simple rule when it comes to classes, that is actually much more consistent than what languages like Java, C++ and C# do: everything declared inside the class block is part of the class. So, functions (def) written here are methods, i.e. part of the class object (not stored on a per-instance basis), just like in Java, C++ and C#; but other names here are also part of the class. Again, the names are just names, and they don't have associated types, and functions are objects too in Python. Thus:

class Example:
    data = 42
    def method(self): pass

Classes are objects too, in Python.

So now we have created an object named Example, which represents the class of all things that are Examples. This object has two user-supplied attributes (In C++, "members"; in C#, "fields or properties or methods"; in Java, "fields or methods"). One of them is named data, and it stores the integer value 42. The other is named method, and it stores a function object. (There are several more attributes that Python adds automatically.)

These attributes still aren't really part of the object, though. Fundamentally, an object is just a bundle of more names (the attribute names), until you get down to things that can't be divided up any more. Thus, values can be shared between different instances of a class, or even between objects of different classes, if you deliberately set that up.

Let's create an instance:

x = Example()

Now we have a separate object named x, which is an instance of Example. The data and method are not actually part of the object, but we can still look them up via x because of some magic that Python does behind the scenes. When we look up method, in particular, we will instead get a "bound method" (when we call it, x gets passed automatically as the self parameter, which cannot happen if we look up Example.method directly).

What happens when we try to use x.data?

When we examine it, it's looked up in the object first. If it's not found in the object, Python looks in the class.

However, when we assign to x.data, Python will create an attribute on the object. It will not replace the class' attribute.

This allows us to do object initialization. Python will automatically call the class' __init__ method on new instances when they are created, if present. In this method, we can simply assign to attributes to set initial values for that attribute on each object:

class Example:
    name = "Ignored"
    def __init__(self, name):
        self.name = name
    # rest as before

Now we must specify a name when we create an Example, and each instance has its own name. Python will ignore the class attribute Example.name whenever we look up the .name of an instance, because the instance's attribute will be found first.

One last caveat: modification (mutation) and assignment are different things!

In Python, strings are immutable. They cannot be modified. When you do:

a = 'hi '
b = a
a += 'mom'

You do not change the original 'hi ' string. That is impossible in Python. Instead, you create a new string 'hi mom', and cause a to stop being a name for 'hi ', and start being a name for 'hi mom' instead. We made b a name for 'hi ' as well, and after re-applying the a name, b is still a name for 'hi ', because 'hi ' still exists and has not been changed.

But lists can be changed:

a = [1, 2, 3]
b = a
a += [4]

Now b is [1, 2, 3, 4] as well, because we made b a name for the same thing that a named, and then we changed that thing. We did not create a new list for a to name, because Python simply treats += differently for lists.

This matters for objects because if you had a list as a class attribute, and used an instance to modify the list, then the change would be "seen" in all other instances. This is because (a) the data is actually part of the class object, and not any instance object; (b) because you were modifying the list and not doing a simple assignment, you did not create a new instance attribute hiding the class attribute.

set serveroutput on in oracle procedure

Actually, you need to call SET SERVEROUTPUT ON; before the BEGIN call.

Everyone suggested this but offers no advice where to actually place the line:

SET SERVEROUTPUT ON;

BEGIN
    FOR rec in (SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES) LOOP
        DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(rec.EmployeeName);
    ENDLOOP;
END;

Otherwise, you won't see any output.

</#if>
List of motocycles:
<#if motocycles??>
    <#list motocycles as motocycle>${motocycle.owner};</#list>
</#if>

How to read Excel cell having Date with Apache POI?

NOTE: HSSFDateUtil is deprecated

If you know which cell i.e. column position say 0 in each row is going to be a date, you can go for row.getCell(0).getDateCellValue() directly.
http://poi.apache.org/apidocs/org/apache/poi/hssf/usermodel/HSSFCell.html#getDateCellValue()

UPDATE: Here is an example - you can apply this in your switch case code above. I am checking and printing the Numeric as well as Date value. In this case the first column in my sheet has dates, hence I use row.getCell(0).

You can use the if (HSSFDateUtil.isCellDateFormatted .. code block directly in your switch case.

if (row.getCell(0).getCellType() == HSSFCell.CELL_TYPE_NUMERIC)
    System.out.println ("Row No.: " + row.getRowNum ()+ " " +
        row.getCell(0).getNumericCellValue());

    if (HSSFDateUtil.isCellDateFormatted(row.getCell(0))) {
        System.out.println ("Row No.: " + row.getRowNum ()+ " " +
            row.getCell(0).getDateCellValue());
    }
}

Hash table runtime complexity (insert, search and delete)

Depends on the how you implement hashing, in the worst case it can go to O(n), in best case it is 0(1) (generally you can achieve if your DS is not that big easily)

Polynomial time and exponential time

o(n sequre) is polynimal time complexity while o(2^n) is exponential time complexity if p=np when best case , in the worst case p=np not equal becasue when input size n grow so long or input sizer increase so longer its going to worst case and handling so complexity growth rate increase and depend on n size of input when input is small it is polynimal when input size large and large so p=np not equal it means growth rate depend on size of input "N". optimization, sat, clique, and independ set also met in exponential to polynimal.

What's the meaning of System.out.println in Java?

System.out.println();

System is the class

out is a variable in the System class and it is a static and variable type is PrintStream.

Here is the out variable in System class:

public final static PrintStream out = null;

You can see implementation of System here.

println() is a overloaded method in PrintStream class.

PrintStream includes three overloaded printing methods, those are:

  1. print()
  2. println()
  3. printf()

You can see implementation of PrintStream here.

You cannot instantiate System class and it is child class of Object and the Object is the father(superclass) of every classes including classes that you defined.

Here is what the oracle docs says:

public final class System extends Object

The System class contains several useful class fields and methods. It cannot be instantiated.

Among the facilities provided by the System class are standard input, standard output, and error output streams; access to externally defined properties and environment variables; a means of loading files and libraries; and a utility method for quickly copying a portion of an array.

Since: JDK1.0

If you donot know what is meant by instantiate, read this questioh. It is C# question but the concept is same.

Also, What is the difference between an Instance and an Object?

If you donot know what is meant by overload read this quesiotn.

Attaching a Sass/SCSS to HTML docs

You can not "attach" a SASS/SCSS file to an HTML document.

SASS/SCSS is a CSS preprocessor that runs on the server and compiles to CSS code that your browser understands.

There are client-side alternatives to SASS that can be compiled in the browser using javascript such as LESS CSS, though I advise you compile to CSS for production use.

It's as simple as adding 2 lines of code to your HTML file.

<link rel="stylesheet/less" type="text/css" href="styles.less" />
<script src="less.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

CSS class for pointer cursor

I don't have enough reputation to comment on the relevant answers, but to people reading this; adding .btn does not just add the pointer cursor but adds a lot of other styling as well. Which is great if it's a button and you want the bootstap button styling, but in other cases it would mess a lot up for other elements.

The best thing you can do, like Hari Das suggested, and which I also always do, is to add the following css:

.cursor-pointer {
  cursor: pointer;
}

After which you can add it to any element

<div class="cursor-pointer"> .. </div>

Floating point vs integer calculations on modern hardware

Two points to consider -

Modern hardware can overlap instructions, execute them in parallel and reorder them to make best use of the hardware. And also, any significant floating point program is likely to have significant integer work too even if it's only calculating indices into arrays, loop counter etc. so even if you have a slow floating point instruction it may well be running on a separate bit of hardware overlapped with some of the integer work. My point being that even if the floating point instructions are slow that integer ones, your overall program may run faster because it can make use of more of the hardware.

As always, the only way to be sure is to profile your actual program.

Second point is that most CPUs these days have SIMD instructions for floating point that can operate on multiple floating point values all at the same time. For example you can load 4 floats into a single SSE register and the perform 4 multiplications on them all in parallel. If you can rewrite parts of your code to use SSE instructions then it seems likely it will be faster than an integer version. Visual c++ provides compiler intrinsic functions to do this, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/x5c07e2a(v=VS.80).aspx for some information.

Excel formula is only showing the formula rather than the value within the cell in Office 2010

Add an = at the beginning. That makes it a function rather than an entry.

Shell script "for" loop syntax

Well, as I didn't have the seq command installed on my system (Mac OS X v10.6.1 (Snow Leopard)), I ended up using a while loop instead:

max=5
i=1

while [ $max -gt $i ]
do
    (stuff)
done

*Shrugs* Whatever works.

Android Canvas.drawText

It should be noted that the documentation recommends using a Layout rather than Canvas.drawText directly. My full answer about using a StaticLayout is here, but I will provide a summary below.

String text = "This is some text.";

TextPaint textPaint = new TextPaint();
textPaint.setAntiAlias(true);
textPaint.setTextSize(16 * getResources().getDisplayMetrics().density);
textPaint.setColor(0xFF000000);

int width = (int) textPaint.measureText(text);
StaticLayout staticLayout = new StaticLayout(text, textPaint, (int) width, Layout.Alignment.ALIGN_NORMAL, 1.0f, 0, false);
staticLayout.draw(canvas);

Here is a fuller example in the context of a custom view:

enter image description here

public class MyView extends View {

    String mText = "This is some text.";
    TextPaint mTextPaint;
    StaticLayout mStaticLayout;

    // use this constructor if creating MyView programmatically
    public MyView(Context context) {
        super(context);
        initLabelView();
    }

    // this constructor is used when created from xml
    public MyView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
        super(context, attrs);
        initLabelView();
    }

    private void initLabelView() {
        mTextPaint = new TextPaint();
        mTextPaint.setAntiAlias(true);
        mTextPaint.setTextSize(16 * getResources().getDisplayMetrics().density);
        mTextPaint.setColor(0xFF000000);

        // default to a single line of text
        int width = (int) mTextPaint.measureText(mText);
        mStaticLayout = new StaticLayout(mText, mTextPaint, (int) width, Layout.Alignment.ALIGN_NORMAL, 1.0f, 0, false);

        // New API alternate
        //
        // StaticLayout.Builder builder = StaticLayout.Builder.obtain(mText, 0, mText.length(), mTextPaint, width)
        //        .setAlignment(Layout.Alignment.ALIGN_NORMAL)
        //        .setLineSpacing(1, 0) // multiplier, add
        //        .setIncludePad(false);
        // mStaticLayout = builder.build();
    }

    @Override
    protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) {
        // Tell the parent layout how big this view would like to be
        // but still respect any requirements (measure specs) that are passed down.

        // determine the width
        int width;
        int widthMode = MeasureSpec.getMode(widthMeasureSpec);
        int widthRequirement = MeasureSpec.getSize(widthMeasureSpec);
        if (widthMode == MeasureSpec.EXACTLY) {
            width = widthRequirement;
        } else {
            width = mStaticLayout.getWidth() + getPaddingLeft() + getPaddingRight();
            if (widthMode == MeasureSpec.AT_MOST) {
                if (width > widthRequirement) {
                    width = widthRequirement;
                    // too long for a single line so relayout as multiline
                    mStaticLayout = new StaticLayout(mText, mTextPaint, width, Layout.Alignment.ALIGN_NORMAL, 1.0f, 0, false);
                }
            }
        }

        // determine the height
        int height;
        int heightMode = MeasureSpec.getMode(heightMeasureSpec);
        int heightRequirement = MeasureSpec.getSize(heightMeasureSpec);
        if (heightMode == MeasureSpec.EXACTLY) {
            height = heightRequirement;
        } else {
            height = mStaticLayout.getHeight() + getPaddingTop() + getPaddingBottom();
            if (heightMode == MeasureSpec.AT_MOST) {
                height = Math.min(height, heightRequirement);
            }
        }

        // Required call: set width and height
        setMeasuredDimension(width, height);
    }

    @Override
    protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
        super.onDraw(canvas);
        // do as little as possible inside onDraw to improve performance

        // draw the text on the canvas after adjusting for padding
        canvas.save();
        canvas.translate(getPaddingLeft(), getPaddingTop());
        mStaticLayout.draw(canvas);
        canvas.restore();
    }
}

what does this mean ? image/png;base64?

It's an inlined image (png), encoded in base64. It can make a page faster: the browser doesn't have to query the server for the image data separately, saving a round trip.

(It can also make it slower if abused: these resources are not cached, so the bytes are included in each page load.)

Url decode UTF-8 in Python

The data is UTF-8 encoded bytes escaped with URL quoting, so you want to decode, with urllib.parse.unquote(), which handles decoding from percent-encoded data to UTF-8 bytes and then to text, transparently:

from urllib.parse import unquote

url = unquote(url)

Demo:

>>> from urllib.parse import unquote
>>> url = 'example.com?title=%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%8F+%D0%B7%D0%B0%D1%89%D0%B8%D1%82%D0%B0'
>>> unquote(url)
'example.com?title=????????+??????'

The Python 2 equivalent is urllib.unquote(), but this returns a bytestring, so you'd have to decode manually:

from urllib import unquote

url = unquote(url).decode('utf8')

Is JavaScript guaranteed to be single-threaded?

@Bobince is providing a really opaque answer.

Riffing off of Már Örlygsson's answer, Javascript is always single-threaded because of this simple fact: Everything in Javascript is executed along a single timeline.

That is the strict definition of a single-threaded programming language.

How do I pass named parameters with Invoke-Command?

I suspect its a new feature since this post was created - pass parameters to the script block using $Using:var. Then its a simple mater to pass parameters provided the script is already on the machine or in a known network location relative to the machine

Taking the main example it would be:

icm -cn $Env:ComputerName {
    C:\Scripts\ArchiveEventLogs\ver5\ArchiveEventLogs.ps1 -one "uno" -two "dos" -Debug -Clear $Using:Clear
}

How to create a link to a directory

What's the best way to store co-ordinates (longitude/latitude, from Google Maps) in SQL Server?

The way I do it: I store the latitude and longitude and then I have a third column which is a automatic derived geography type of the 1st two columns. The table looks like this:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Geopoint]
(
    [GeopointId] BIGINT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY IDENTITY,
    [Latitude] float NOT NULL,
    [Longitude] float NOT NULL,
    [ts] ROWVERSION NOT NULL,
    [GeographyPoint]  AS ([geography]::STGeomFromText(((('POINT('+CONVERT([varchar](20),[Longitude]))+' ')+CONVERT([varchar](20),[Latitude]))+')',(4326)))
)

This gives you the flexibility of spatial queries on the geoPoint column and you can also retrieve the latitude and longitude values as you need them for display or extracting for csv purposes.

How to remove old Docker containers

You can use docker-helper from the repository https://github.com/kartoza/docker-helpers. After the install, just type drmc.

Run javascript function when user finishes typing instead of on key up?

You guys have heard of closures in javascript ?!

it's very simple and straightforward just compare you current input value with the old value that the setTimeOut function closes over, and voila, you're done.

let timer;
$('#myInput').on('keyup', function() {
  window.clearTimeout(timer);
  // here is the closures javascript magic happens.
  const value = $(this).val();
  timer = setTimeout(() => {
    if(value === $(this).val() && $(this).val()!== ''){
        alert($(this).val());
    }
  }, 500);
})

Gradle - Move a folder from ABC to XYZ

Your task declaration is incorrectly combining the Copy task type and project.copy method, resulting in a task that has nothing to copy and thus never runs. Besides, Copy isn't the right choice for renaming a directory. There is no Gradle API for renaming, but a bit of Groovy code (leveraging Java's File API) will do. Assuming Project1 is the project directory:

task renABCToXYZ {     doLast {         file("ABC").renameTo(file("XYZ"))     } }

Looking at the bigger picture, it's probably better to add the renaming logic (i.e. the doLast task action) to the task that produces ABC.

What's the main difference between int.Parse() and Convert.ToInt32

Have a look in reflector:

int.Parse("32"):

public static int Parse(string s)
{
    return System.Number.ParseInt32(s, NumberStyles.Integer, NumberFormatInfo.CurrentInfo);
}

which is a call to:

internal static unsafe int ParseInt32(string s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info)
{
    byte* stackBuffer = stackalloc byte[1 * 0x72];
    NumberBuffer number = new NumberBuffer(stackBuffer);
    int num = 0;
    StringToNumber(s, style, ref number, info, false);
    if ((style & NumberStyles.AllowHexSpecifier) != NumberStyles.None)
    {
        if (!HexNumberToInt32(ref number, ref num))
        {
            throw new OverflowException(Environment.GetResourceString("Overflow_Int32"));
        }
        return num;
    }
    if (!NumberToInt32(ref number, ref num))
    {
        throw new OverflowException(Environment.GetResourceString("Overflow_Int32"));
    }
    return num;
}

Convert.ToInt32("32"):

public static int ToInt32(string value)
{
    if (value == null)
    {
        return 0;
    }
    return int.Parse(value, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture);
}

As the first (Dave M's) comment says.

C++ - unable to start correctly (0xc0150002)

In my case, Visual Leak Detector I was using to track down memory leaks in Visual Studio 2015 was missing the Microsoft manifest file Microsoft.DTfW.DHL.manifest, see link Building Visual Leak Detector all way down. This file must be in the folder where vld.dll or vld_x64.dll is in your configuration, say C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Leak Detector\bin\Win32, C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Leak Detector\bin\Win64, Debug or x64/Debug.

Running CMD command in PowerShell

To run or convert batch files externally from PowerShell (particularly if you wish to sign all your scheduled task scripts with a certificate) I simply create a PowerShell script, e.g. deletefolders.ps1.

Input the following into the script:

cmd.exe /c "rd /s /q C:\#TEMP\test1"

cmd.exe /c "rd /s /q C:\#TEMP\test2"

cmd.exe /c "rd /s /q C:\#TEMP\test3"

*Each command needs to be put on a new line calling cmd.exe again.

This script can now be signed and run from PowerShell outputting the commands to command prompt / cmd directly.

It is a much safer way than running batch files!

htaccess - How to force the client's browser to clear the cache?

You can not force the browsers to clear the cache.

Your .html file seems to be re-loaded sooner as it expires after 10 days. What you have to do is to update your .html file and move all your files to a new folder such as version-2/ or append a version identifier to each file such as mypicture-2.jpg. Then you reference these new files in your .html file and the browser will load them again because the location changed.

How can I safely create a nested directory?

I would personally recommend that you use os.path.isdir() to test instead of os.path.exists().

>>> os.path.exists('/tmp/dirname')
True
>>> os.path.exists('/tmp/dirname/filename.etc')
True
>>> os.path.isdir('/tmp/dirname/filename.etc')
False
>>> os.path.isdir('/tmp/fakedirname')
False

If you have:

>>> dir = raw_input(":: ")

And a foolish user input:

:: /tmp/dirname/filename.etc

... You're going to end up with a directory named filename.etc when you pass that argument to os.makedirs() if you test with os.path.exists().

How to check whether an object is a date?

Inspired by this answer, this solution works in my case(I needed to check whether the value recieved from API is a date or not):

!isNaN(Date.parse(new Date(YourVariable)))

This way, if it is some random string coming from a client, or any other object, you can find out if it is a Date-like object.
