How do I truncate a .NET string?

Still no Truncate method in 2016 for C# strings. But - Using C# 6.0 Syntax:

public static class StringExtension
{
  public static string Truncate(this string s, int max)
  {
    return s?.Length > max ? s.Substring(0, max) : s ?? throw new ArgumentNullException(s);
  }
}

It works like a charm:

"Truncate me".Truncate(8);
Result: "Truncate"

Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL server error log for potential causes

Root cause: Corrupted user profile of user account used to start database

The main thread here seems to be a corrupted user account profile for the account that is used to start the DB engine. This is the account that was specified for the "SQL Server Database" engine during installation. In the setup event log, it's also indicated by the following entry:

SQLSVCACCOUNT:                 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

According to the link provided by @royki:

The root cause of this issue, in most cases, is that the profile of the user being used for the service account (in my case it was local system) is corrupted.

This would explain why other respondents had success after changing to different accounts:

  • bmjjr suggests changing to "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE"
  • comments to @bmjjr indicate different accounts "I used NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE. That helped too"
  • @Julio Nobre had success with "NT Authority\System "

Fix: reset the corrupt user profile

To fix the user profile that's causing the error, follow the steps listed KB947215.

The main steps from KB947215 are summarized as follows:-

  1. Open regedit
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  3. Navigate to the SID for the corrupted profile

    To find the SID, click on each SID GUID, review the value for the ProfileImagePath value, and see if it's the correct account. For system accounts, there's a different way to know the SID for the account that failed:

The main system account SIDs of interest are:

SID          Name               Also Known As
S-1-5-18     Local System       NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
S-1-5-19     LocalService       NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE
S-1-5-20     NetworkService     NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE

For information on additional SIDs, see Well-known security identifiers in Windows operating systems.

  1. If there are two entries (e.g. with a .bak) at the end for the SID in question, or the SID in question ends in .bak, ensure to follow carefully the steps in the KB947215 article.
  2. Reset the values for RefCount and State to be 0.
  3. Reboot.
  4. Retry the SQL Server installation.

Ternary operator ?: vs if...else

How can I use the HTML5 canvas element in IE?

You can try fxCanvas: https://code.google.com/p/fxcanvas/

It implements almost all Canvas API within flash shim.

rotate image with css

I know this topic is old, but there are no correct answers.

rotation transform rotates the element from its center, so, a wider element will rotate this way:

Applying overflow: hidden hides the longest dimension as you can see here:

So, what I do is some calculations, in my example the picture is 455px width and 111px height and we have to add some margins based on these dimensions:

  • left margin: (width - height)/2
  • top margin: (height - width)/2

in CSS:

margin: calc((455px - 111px)/2) calc((111px - 455px)/2);

System.MissingMethodException: Method not found?

If developing with your own NuGet server, make sure the assembly versions are all the same:

[assembly: AssemblyVersion("0.2.6")]
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("0.2.6")]
[assembly: AssemblyInformationalVersion("0.2.6")]

R - argument is of length zero in if statement

The simplest solution to the problem is to change your for loop statement :

Instead of using

      for (i in **0**:n))

Use

      for (i in **1**:n))

C# : assign data to properties via constructor vs. instantiating

Object initializers are cool because they allow you to set up a class inline. The tradeoff is that your class cannot be immutable. Consider:

public class Album
{
    // Note that we make the setter 'private'
    public string Name { get; private set; }
    public string Artist { get; private set; }
    public int Year { get; private set; }

    public Album(string name, string artist, int year)
    {
        this.Name = name;
        this.Artist = artist;
        this.Year = year;
    }
}

If the class is defined this way, it means that there isn't really an easy way to modify the contents of the class after it has been constructed. Immutability has benefits. When something is immutable, it is MUCH easier to determine that it's correct. After all, if it can't be modified after construction, then there is no way for it to ever be 'wrong' (once you've determined that it's structure is correct). When you create anonymous classes, such as:

new {
    Name = "Some Name",
    Artist = "Some Artist",
    Year = 1994
};

the compiler will automatically create an immutable class (that is, anonymous classes cannot be modified after construction), because immutability is just that useful. Most C++/Java style guides often encourage making members const(C++) or final (Java) for just this reason. Bigger applications are just much easier to verify when there are fewer moving parts.

That all being said, there are situations when you want to be able quickly modify the structure of your class. Let's say I have a tool that I want to set up:

public void Configure(ConfigurationSetup setup);

and I have a class that has a number of members such as:

class ConfigurationSetup {
    public String Name { get; set; }
    public String Location { get; set; }
    public Int32 Size { get; set; }
    public DateTime Time { get; set; }

    // ... and some other configuration stuff...
}

Using object initializer syntax is useful when I want to configure some combination of properties, but not neccesarily all of them at once. For example if I just want to configure the Name and Location, I can just do:

ConfigurationSetup setup = new ConfigurationSetup {
    Name = "Some Name",
    Location = "San Jose"
};

and this allows me to set up some combination without having to define a new constructor for every possibly permutation.

On the whole, I would argue that making your classes immutable will save you a great deal of development time in the long run, but having object initializer syntax makes setting up certain configuration permutations much easier.

Why does 'git commit' not save my changes?

I had a very similar issue with the same error message. "Changes not staged for commit", yet when I do a diff it shows differences. I finally figured out that a while back I had changed a directories case. ex. "PostgeSQL" to "postgresql". As I remember now sometimes git will leave a file or two behind in the old case directory. Then you will commit a new version to the new case.

Thus git doesn't know which one to rely on. So to resolve it, I had to go onto the github's website. Then you're able to view both cases. And you must delete all the files in the incorrect cased directory. Be sure that you have the correct version saved off or in the correct cased directory.

Once you have deleted all the files in the old case directory, that whole directory will disappear. Then do a commit.

At this point you should be able to do a Pull on your local computer and not see the conflicts any more. Thus being able to commit again. :)

syntax for creating a dictionary into another dictionary in python

You can declare a dictionary inside a dictionary by nesting the {} containers:

d = {'dict1': {'foo': 1, 'bar': 2}, 'dict2': {'baz': 3, 'quux': 4}}

And then you can access the elements using the [] syntax:

print d['dict1']           # {'foo': 1, 'bar': 2}
print d['dict1']['foo']    # 1
print d['dict2']['quux']   # 4

Given the above, if you want to add another dictionary to the dictionary, it can be done like so:

d['dict3'] = {'spam': 5, 'ham': 6}

or if you prefer to add items to the internal dictionary one by one:

d['dict4'] = {}
d['dict4']['king'] = 7
d['dict4']['queen'] = 8

PowerShell script to check the status of a URL

You can try this:

function Get-UrlStatusCode([string] $Url)
{
    try
    {
        (Invoke-WebRequest -Uri $Url -UseBasicParsing -DisableKeepAlive).StatusCode
    }
    catch [Net.WebException]
    {
        [int]$_.Exception.Response.StatusCode
    }
}

$statusCode = Get-UrlStatusCode 'httpstat.us/500'

Selenium wait until document is ready

For the people who need to wait for a specific element to show up. (used c#)

public static void WaitForElement(IWebDriver driver, By element)
{
    WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, TimeSpan.FromSeconds(20));
    wait.Until(ExpectedConditions.ElementIsVisible(element));
}

Then if you want to wait for example if an class="error-message" exists in the DOM you simply do:

WaitForElement(driver, By.ClassName("error-message"));

For id, it will then be

WaitForElement(driver, By.Id("yourid"));

Any reason not to use '+' to concatenate two strings?

When working with multiple people, it's sometimes difficult to know exactly what's happening. Using a format string instead of concatenation can avoid one particular annoyance that's happened a whole ton of times to us:

Say, a function requires an argument, and you write it expecting to get a string:

In [1]: def foo(zeta):
   ...:     print 'bar: ' + zeta

In [2]: foo('bang')
bar: bang

So, this function may be used pretty often throughout the code. Your coworkers may know exactly what it does, but not necessarily be fully up-to-speed on the internals, and may not know that the function expects a string. And so they may end up with this:

In [3]: foo(23)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TypeError Traceback (most recent call last)

/home/izkata/<ipython console> in <module>()

/home/izkata/<ipython console> in foo(zeta)

TypeError: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'int' objects

There would be no problem if you just used a format string:

In [1]: def foo(zeta):
   ...:     print 'bar: %s' % zeta
   ...:
   ...:

In [2]: foo('bang')
bar: bang

In [3]: foo(23)
bar: 23

The same is true for all types of objects that define __str__, which may be passed in as well:

In [1]: from datetime import date

In [2]: zeta = date(2012, 4, 15)

In [3]: print 'bar: ' + zeta
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TypeError Traceback (most recent call last)

/home/izkata/<ipython console> in <module>()

TypeError: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'datetime.date' objects

In [4]: print 'bar: %s' % zeta
bar: 2012-04-15

So yes: If you can use a format string do it and take advantage of what Python has to offer.

What's the proper way to "go get" a private repository?

If you've already got git using SSH, this answer by Ammar Bandukwala is a simple workaround:

$ go get uses git internally. The following one liners will make git and consequently $ go get clone your package via SSH.

Github:

$ git config --global url."[email protected]:".insteadOf "https://github.com/"

BitBucket:

$ git config --global url."[email protected]:".insteadOf "https://bitbucket.org/"

Simple two column html layout without using tables

If you want to do it the HTML5 way (this particular code works better for things like blogs, where <article> is used multiple times, once for each blog entry teaser; ultimately, the elements themselves don't matter much, it's the styling and element placement that will get you your desired results):

<style type="text/css">
article {
  float: left;
  width: 500px;
}

aside {
  float: right;
  width: 200px;
}

#wrap {

  margin: 0 auto;
}
</style>

What is a lambda (function)?

In computer programming, lambda is a piece of code (statement, expression or a group of them) which takes some arguments from an external source. It must not always be an anonymous function - we have many ways to implement them.

We have clear separation between expressions, statements and functions, which mathematicians do not have.

The word "function" in programming is also different - we have "function is a series of steps to do" (from Latin "perform"). In math it is something about correlation between variables.

Functional languages are trying to be as similar to math formulas as possible, and their words mean almost the same. But in other programming languages we have it different.

What's the best way to break from nested loops in JavaScript?

Quite simple:

var a = [1, 2, 3];
var b = [4, 5, 6];
var breakCheck1 = false;

for (var i in a) {
    for (var j in b) {
        breakCheck1 = true;
        break;
    }
    if (breakCheck1) break;
}

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (PHP / WAMP)

You might need:

  • In wamp\bin\mysql\mysqlX.X.XX\my.ini find these lines:

    [client] ... port = 3308 ... [wampmysqld64] ... port = 3308

As you see, the port number is 3308. You should :

  • use that port in applications, like WordPress: define('DB_HOST', 'localhost:3308')

or

  • change it globally in wamp\bin\apache\apache2.X.XXX\bin\php.ini change mysqli.default_port = ... to 3308

    }

    public void someMethod() {
        AnotherClass.MyEnum enumExample = AnotherClass.MyEnum.VALUE_A; //...

        switch (enumExample) {
            case VALUE_A: { //<-- error on this line
            //..
            break;
            }
        }
    }
}

putting datepicker() on dynamically created elements - JQuery/JQueryUI

None of the other solutions worked for me. In my app, I'm adding the date range elements to the document using jquery and then applying datepicker to them. So none of the event solutions worked for some reason.

This is what finally worked:

$(document).on('changeDate',"#elementid", function(){
    alert('event fired');
});

Hope this helps someone because this set me back a bit.

Animate visibility modes, GONE and VISIBLE

This is a quite old question, still comments show, that still people have problems, so here is my solution with following additional features:

  • adjust the animation (speed, type, ...)
  • does not need to extend any class
  • in my case, animateLayoutChanges has problems in the new CoordinatorLayout

Function - Example (I have this function in an utility class)

public static void animateViewVisibility(final View view, final int visibility)
{
    // cancel runnning animations and remove and listeners
    view.animate().cancel();
    view.animate().setListener(null);

    // animate making view visible
    if (visibility == View.VISIBLE)
    {
        view.animate().alpha(1f).start();
        view.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
    }
    // animate making view hidden (HIDDEN or INVISIBLE)
    else
    {
        view.animate().setListener(new AnimatorListenerAdapter()
        {
            @Override
            public void onAnimationEnd(Animator animation)
            {
                view.setVisibility(visibility);
            }
        }).alpha(0f).start();
    }
}

Adjust animation

After calling view.animate() you can adjust the animation to whatever you want (set duration, set interpolator and more...). You may as well hide a view by scaling it instead of adjusting it's alpha value, just replace the alpha(...) with scaleX(...) or scaleY(...) in the utility method if you want that

How to Deserialize JSON data?

You can write your own JSON parser and make it more generic based on your requirement. Here is one which served my purpose nicely, hope will help you too.

How to hide form code from view code/inspect element browser?

While I don't think there is a way to fully do this you can take a few measures to stop almost everyone from viewing the HTML.

You can first of all try and stop the inspect menu by doing the following:

I would also suggest using the method that Jonas gave of using his javascript and putting what you don't want people to see in a div with id="element-to-hide" and his given js script to furthermore stop people from inspecting.

I'm pretty sure that it's quite hard to get past that. But then someone can just type view-source:www.exapmle.com and that will show them the source. So you will then probably want to encrypt the HTML(I would advise using a website that gives you an extended security option). There are plenty of good websites that do this for free (eg:http://www.smartgb.com/free_encrypthtml.php) and use extended security which you can't usually unencrypt through HTML un encryptors.

This will basically encrypt your HTML so if you view the source using the method I showed above you will just get encrypted HTML(that is also extremely difficult to unencrypt if you used the extended security option). But you can view the unencrypted HTML through inspecting but we have already blocked that(to a very reasonable extent)

How can I count the number of children?

You can do this using jQuery:

This method gets a list of its children then counts the length of that list, as simple as that.

$("ul").find("*").length;

The find() method traverses DOM downwards along descendants, all the way down to the last descendant.

Note: children() method traverses a single level down the DOM tree.

Using String Format to show decimal up to 2 places or simple integer

If none of the other answers work for you, it may be because you are binding the ContentProperty of a control in the OnLoad function, which means this won't work:

private void UserControl_Load(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
  Bind.SetBindingElement(labelName, String.Format("{0:0.00}", PropertyName), Label.ContentProperty)
}

The solution is simple: there is a ContentStringFormat property in the xaml. So when you create the label do this:

//if you want the decimal places definite
<Label Content="0" Name="labelName" ContentStringFormat="0.00"/>

Or

//if you want the decimal places to be optional
<Label Content="0" Name="labelName" ContentStringFormat="0.##"/>

How to specify a multi-line shell variable?

I would like to give one additional answer, while the other ones will suffice in most cases.

I wanted to write a string over multiple lines, but its contents needed to be single-line.

sql="                       \
SELECT c1, c2               \
from Table1, ${TABLE2}      \
where ...                   \
"

I am sorry if this if a bit off-topic (I did not need this for SQL). However, this post comes up among the first results when searching for multi-line shell variables and an additional answer seemed appropriate.

Mongoose (mongodb) batch insert?

Mongoose 4.4.0 now supports bulk insert

Mongoose 4.4.0 introduces --true-- bulk insert with the model method .insertMany(). It is way faster than looping on .create() or providing it with an array.

Usage:

var rawDocuments = [/* ... */];

Book.insertMany(rawDocuments)
    .then(function(mongooseDocuments) {
         /* ... */
    })
    .catch(function(err) {
        /* Error handling */
    });

Or

Book.insertMany(rawDocuments, function (err, mongooseDocuments) { /* Your callback function... */ });

You can track it on:

Find the most popular element in int[] array

Array elements value should be less than the array length for this one:

public void findCounts(int[] arr, int n) {
    int i = 0;

    while (i < n) {
        if (arr[i] <= 0) {
            i++;
            continue;
        }

        int elementIndex = arr[i] - 1;

        if (arr[elementIndex] > 0) {
            arr[i] = arr[elementIndex];
            arr[elementIndex] = -1;
        }
        else {
            arr[elementIndex]--;
            arr[i] = 0;
            i++;
        }
    }

    Console.WriteLine("Below are counts of all elements");

    for (int j = 0; j < n; j++) {
        Console.WriteLine(j + 1 + "->" + Math.Abs(arr[j]));
    }
}

Time complexity of this will be O(N) and space complexity will be O(1).

Do you actually have the single quotes in your command? I don't think they are necessary. Plus, I think you also need --no-auth-cache and --non-interactive

Here is what I use (no single quotes)

How do I reformat HTML code using Sublime Text 2?

Just a general tip. What I did to auto-tidy up my HTML, was install the package HTML_Tidy, and then add the following keybinding to the default settings (which I use):

{ "keys": ["enter"], "command": "html_tidy" },

this runs HTML Tidy with every enter. There may be drawbacks to this, I'm quite new to Sublime myself, but it seems to do what I want :)

What do 'lazy' and 'greedy' mean in the context of regular expressions?

Greedy will consume as much as possible. From http://www.regular-expressions.info/repeat.html we see the example of trying to match HTML tags with <.+>. Suppose you have the following:

<em>Hello World</em>

You may think that <.+> (. means any non newline character and + means one or more) would only match the <em> and the </em>, when in reality it will be very greedy, and go from the first < to the last >. This means it will match <em>Hello World</em> instead of what you wanted.

Making it lazy (<.+?>) will prevent this. By adding the ? after the +, we tell it to repeat as few times as possible, so the first > it comes across, is where we want to stop the matching.

I'd encourage you to download RegExr, a great tool that will help you explore Regular Expressions - I use it all the time.

'ff'

How do I compare strings in GoLang?

The content inside strings in Golang can be compared using == operator. If the results are not as expected there may be some hidden characters like \n, \r, spaces, etc. So as a general rule of thumb, try removing those using functions provided by strings package in golang.

For Instance, spaces can be removed using strings.TrimSpace function. You can also define a custom function to remove any character you need. strings.TrimFunc function can give you more power.

Mismatch Detected for 'RuntimeLibrary'

(This is already answered in comments, but since it lacks an actual answer, I'm writing this.)

This problem arises in newer versions of Visual C++ (the older versions usually just silently linked the program and it would crash and burn at run time.) It means that some of the libraries you are linking with your program (or even some of the source files inside your program itself) are using different versions of the CRT (the C RunTime library.)

To correct this error, you need to go into your Project Properties (and/or those of the libraries you are using,) then into C/C++, then Code Generation, and check the value of Runtime Library; this should be exactly the same for all the files and libraries you are linking together. (The rules are a little more relaxed for linking with DLLs, but I'm not going to go into the "why" and into more details here.)

There are currently four options for this setting:

  1. Multithreaded Debug
  2. Multithreaded Debug DLL
  3. Multithreaded Release
  4. Multithreaded Release DLL

Your particular problem seems to stem from you linking a library built with "Multithreaded Debug" (i.e. static multithreaded debug CRT) against a program that is being built using the "Multithreaded Debug DLL" setting (i.e. dynamic multithreaded debug CRT.) You should change this setting either in the library, or in your program. For now, I suggest changing this in your program.

Note that since Visual Studio projects use different sets of project settings for debug and release builds (and 32/64-bit builds) you should make sure the settings match in all of these project configurations.

For (some) more information, you can see these (linked from a comment above):

  1. Linker Tools Warning LNK4098 on MSDN
  2. /MD, /ML, /MT, /LD (Use Run-Time Library) on MSDN
  3. Build errors with VC11 Beta - mixing MTd libs with MDd exes fail to link on Bugzilla@Mozilla

UPDATE: (This is in response to a comment that asks for the reason that this much care must be taken.)

If two pieces of code that we are linking together are themselves linking against and using the standard library, then the standard library must be the same for both of them, unless great care is taken about how our two code pieces interact and pass around data. Generally, I would say that for almost all situations just use the exact same version of the standard library runtime (regarding debug/release, threads, and obviously the version of Visual C++, among other things like iterator debugging, etc.)

The most important part of the problem is this: having the same idea about the size of objects on either side of a function call.

Consider for example that the above two pieces of code are called A and B. A is compiled against one version of the standard library, and B against another. In A's view, some random object that a standard function returns to it (e.g. a block of memory or an iterator or a FILE object or whatever) has some specific size and layout (remember that structure layout is determined and fixed at compile time in C/C++.) For any of several reasons, B's idea of the size/layout of the same objects is different (it can be because of additional debug information, natural evolution of data structures over time, etc.)

Now, if A calls the standard library and gets an object back, then passes that object to B, and B touches that object in any way, chances are that B will mess that object up (e.g. write the wrong field, or past the end of it, etc.)

The above isn't the only kind of problems that can happen. Internal global or static objects in the standard library can cause problems too. And there are more obscure classes of problems as well.

All this gets weirder in some aspects when using DLLs (dynamic runtime library) instead of libs (static runtime library.)

This situation can apply to any library used by two pieces of code that work together, but the standard library gets used by most (if not almost all) programs, and that increases the chances of clash.

What I've described is obviously a watered down and simplified version of the actual mess that awaits you if you mix library versions. I hope that it gives you an idea of why you shouldn't do it!

How to read and write excel file

This will write a JTable to a tab separated file that can be easily imported into Excel. This works.

If you save an Excel worksheet as an XML document you could also build the XML file for EXCEL with code. I have done this with word so you do not have to use third-party packages.

This could code have the JTable taken out and then just write a tab separated to any text file and then import into Excel. I hope this helps.

Code:

import java.io.File;
import java.io.FileWriter;
import java.io.IOException;
import javax.swing.JTable;
import javax.swing.table.TableModel;

public class excel {
    String columnNames[] = { "Column 1", "Column 2", "Column 3" };

    // Create some data
    String dataValues[][] =
    {
        { "12", "234", "67" },
        { "-123", "43", "853" },
        { "93", "89.2", "109" },
        { "279", "9033", "3092" }
    };

    JTable table;

    excel() {
        table = new JTable( dataValues, columnNames );
    }

    public void toExcel(JTable table, File file){
        try{
            TableModel model = table.getModel();
            FileWriter excel = new FileWriter(file);

Loop through files in a folder using VBA?

Dir function loses focus easily when I handle and process files from other folders.

I've gotten better results with the component FileSystemObject.

Full example is given here:

Don't forget to set a reference in the Visual Basic Editor to Microsoft Scripting Runtime (by using Tools > References)

Give it a try!

Height of an HTML select box (dropdown)

Confirmed.

The part that drops down is set to either:

  1. The height needed to show all entries, or
  2. The height needed to show x entries (with scrollbars to see remaining), where x is
    • 20 in Firefox & Chrome
    • 30 in IE 6, 7, 8
    • 16 for Opera 10
    • 14 for Opera 11
    • 22 for Safari 4
    • 18 for Safari 5
    • 11 in IE 5.0, 5.5
  3. In IE/Edge, if there are no options, a stupidly high list of 11 blanks entries.

For (3) above you can see the results in this JSFiddle

Android: How to handle right to left swipe gestures

This question was asked many years ago. Now, there is a better solution: SmartSwipe: https://github.com/luckybilly/SmartSwipe

code looks like this:

SmartSwipe.wrap(contentView)
        .addConsumer(new StayConsumer()) //contentView stay while swiping with StayConsumer
        .enableAllDirections() //enable directions as needed
        .addListener(new SimpleSwipeListener() {
            @Override
            public void onSwipeOpened(SmartSwipeWrapper wrapper, SwipeConsumer consumer, int direction) {
                //direction:
                //  1: left
                //  2: right
                //  4: top
                //  8: bottom
            }

Converting a JS object to an array using jQuery

I think you can use for in but checking if the property is not inerithed

myObj= {1:[Array-Data], 2:[Array-Data]}
var arr =[];
for( var i in myObj ) {
    if (myObj.hasOwnProperty(i)){
       arr.push(myObj[i]);
    }
}

EDIT - if you want you could also keep the indexes of your object, but you have to check if they are numeric (and you get undefined values for missing indexes:

function isNumber(n) {
  return !isNaN(parseFloat(n)) && isFinite(n);
}

myObj= {1:[1,2], 2:[3,4]}
var arr =[];
for( var i in myObj ) {
    if (myObj.hasOwnProperty(i)){
        if (isNumber(i)){
            arr[i] = myObj[i];
        }else{
          arr.push(myObj[i]);
        }
    }
}

Plotting power spectrum in python

Numpy has a convenience function, np.fft.fftfreq to compute the frequencies associated with FFT components:

from __future__ import division
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

data = np.random.rand(301) - 0.5
ps = np.abs(np.fft.fft(data))**2

time_step = 1 / 30
freqs = np.fft.fftfreq(data.size, time_step)
idx = np.argsort(freqs)

plt.plot(freqs[idx], ps[idx])

enter image description here

Note that the largest frequency you see in your case is not 30 Hz, but

In [7]: max(freqs)
Out[7]: 14.950166112956811

You never see the sampling frequency in a power spectrum. If you had had an even number of samples, then you would have reached the Nyquist frequency, 15 Hz in your case (although numpy would have calculated it as -15).

How do you Make A Repeat-Until Loop in C++?

When you want to check the condition at the beginning of the loop, simply negate the condition on a standard while loop:

while(!cond) { ... }

If you need it at the end, use a do ... while loop and negate the condition:

do { ... } while(!cond);

__FILE__, __LINE__, and __FUNCTION__ usage in C++

In rare cases, it can be useful to change the line that is given by __LINE__ to something else. I've seen GNU configure does that for some tests to report appropriate line numbers after it inserted some voodoo between lines that do not appear in original source files. For example:

#line 100

Will make the following lines start with __LINE__ 100. You can optionally add a new file-name

#line 100 "file.c"

It's only rarely useful. But if it is needed, there are no alternatives I know of. Actually, instead of the line, a macro can be used too which must result in any of the above two forms. Using the boost preprocessor library, you can increment the current line by 50:

#line BOOST_PP_ADD(__LINE__, 50)

I thought it's useful to mention it since you asked about the usage of __LINE__ and __FILE__. One never gets enough surprises out of C++ :)

Edit: @Jonathan Leffler provides some more good use-cases in the comments:

Messing with #line is very useful for pre-processors that want to keep errors reported in the user's C code in line with the user's source file. Yacc, Lex, and (more at home to me) ESQL/C preprocessors do that.

How to iterate over array of objects in Handlebars?

I had a similar issue I was getting the entire object in this but the value was displaying while doing #each.

Solution: I re-structure my array of object like this:

let list = results.map((item)=>{
    return { name:item.name, author:item.author }
});

and then in template file:

{{#each list}}
    <tr>
        <td>{{name }}</td>
        <td>{{author}}</td>
    </tr>
{{/each}}

MySQL: Curdate() vs Now()

CURDATE() will give current date while NOW() will give full date time.

Run the queries, and you will find out whats the difference between them.

SELECT NOW(); -- You will get 2010-12-09 17:10:18
SELECT CURDATE(); -- You will get 2010-12-09

PHP Composer update "cannot allocate memory" error (using Laravel 4)

A bit old but just in case someone new is looking for a solution, updating your PHP version can fix the issue.

Also you should be committing your composer.lock file and doing a composer install on a production environment which is less resource intensive.

Cross-Origin Request Blocked

You need other headers, not only access-control-allow-origin. If your request have the "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" header, you must copy it into the response headers, If doesn't, you must check the "Origin" header and copy it into the response. If your request doesn't have Access-Control-Allow-Origin not Origin headers, you must return "*".

You can read the complete explanation here: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/cors/#toc-adding-cors-support-to-the-server

and this is the function I'm using to write cross domain headers:

func writeCrossDomainHeaders(w http.ResponseWriter, req *http.Request) {
    // Cross domain headers
    if acrh, ok := req.Header["Access-Control-Request-Headers"]; ok {
        w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Headers", acrh[0])
    }
    w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Credentials", "True")
    if acao, ok := req.Header["Access-Control-Allow-Origin"]; ok {
        w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", acao[0])
    } else {
        if _, oko := req.Header["Origin"]; oko {
            w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", req.Header["Origin"][0])
        } else {
            w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*")
        }
    }
    w.Header().Set("Access-Control-Allow-Methods", "GET, POST, PUT, DELETE")
    w.Header().Set("Connection", "Close")

}

Finding the position of bottom of a div with jquery

Add the outerheight to the top and you have the bottom, relative to the parent element:

var $el = $('#bottom'); //record the elem so you don't crawl the DOM everytime
var bottom = $el.position().top + $el.outerHeight(true); // passing "true" will also include the top and bottom margin

With absolutely positioned elements or when positioning relative to the document, you will need to instead evaluate using offset:

var bottom = $el.offset().top + $el.outerHeight(true);

As pointed out by trnelson this does not work 100% of the time. To use this method for positioned elements, you also must account for offset. For an example see the following code.

var bottom = $el.position().top + $el.offset().top + $el.outerHeight(true);

Thoroughly Understand All Data Types and Structures

For every type and structure, write a series of demo programs that exercise every aspect of the type or data structure. If you do this, it might be worthwhile to blog notes on each one... it might be useful to lots of people!

How to remove last n characters from every element in the R vector

Here is an example of what I would do. I hope it's what you're looking for.

char_array = c("foo_bar","bar_foo","apple","beer")
a = data.frame("data"=char_array,"data2"=1:4)
a$data = substr(a$data,1,nchar(a$data)-3)

a should now contain:

  data data2
1 foo_ 1
2 bar_ 2
3   ap 3
4    b 4

How to set up file permissions for Laravel?

Just to state the obvious for anyone viewing this discussion.... if you give any of your folders 777 permissions, you are allowing ANYONE to read, write and execute any file in that directory.... what this means is you have given ANYONE (any hacker or malicious person in the entire world) permission to upload ANY file, virus or any other file, and THEN execute that file...

IF YOU ARE SETTING YOUR FOLDER PERMISSIONS TO 777 YOU HAVE OPENED YOUR SERVER TO ANYONE THAT CAN FIND THAT DIRECTORY. Clear enough??? :)

There are basically two ways to setup your ownership and permissions. Either you give yourself ownership or you make the webserver the owner of all files.

Webserver as owner (the way most people do it, and the Laravel doc's way):

assuming www-data (it could be something else) is your webserver user.

sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /path/to/your/laravel/root/directory

if you do that, the webserver owns all the files, and is also the group, and you will have some problems uploading files or working with files via FTP, because your FTP client will be logged in as you, not your webserver, so add your user to the webserver user group:

sudo usermod -a -G www-data ubuntu

Of course, this assumes your webserver is running as www-data (the Homestead default), and your user is ubuntu (it's vagrant if you are using Homestead).

Then you set all your directories to 755 and your files to 644... SET file permissions

sudo find /path/to/your/laravel/root/directory -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

SET directory permissions

sudo find /path/to/your/laravel/root/directory -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;

Your user as owner

I prefer to own all the directories and files (it makes working with everything much easier), so, go to your laravel root directory:

cd /var/www/html/laravel >> assuming this is your current root directory
sudo chown -R $USER:www-data .

Then I give both myself and the webserver permissions:

sudo find . -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \;
sudo find . -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \;

Then give the webserver the rights to read and write to storage and cache

Whichever way you set it up, then you need to give read and write permissions to the webserver for storage, cache and any other directories the webserver needs to upload or write too (depending on your situation), so run the commands from bashy above :

sudo chgrp -R www-data storage bootstrap/cache
sudo chmod -R ug+rwx storage bootstrap/cache

Now, you're secure and your website works, AND you can work with the files fairly easily

How do I compare strings in Java?

Yes, == is bad for comparing Strings (any objects really, unless you know they're canonical). == just compares object references. .equals() tests for equality. For Strings, often they'll be the same but as you've discovered, that's not guaranteed always.

Sort Dictionary by keys

Swift 4 & 5

For string keys sorting:

dictionary.keys.sorted(by: {$0.localizedStandardCompare($1) == .orderedAscending})

Example:

var dict : [String : Any] = ["10" : Any, "2" : Any, "20" : Any, "1" : Any]

dictionary.keys.sorted()

["1" : Any, "10" : Any, "2" : Any, "20" : Any]

dictionary.keys.sorted(by: {$0.localizedStandardCompare($1) == .orderedAscending})

["1" : Any, "2" : Any, "10" : Any, "20" : Any]

Windows batch script launch program and exit console

start "" ExeToExecute

method does not work for me in the case of Xilinx xsdk, because as pointed out by @jeb in the comments below it is actaully a bat file.

so what does not work de-facto is

start "" BatToExecute

I am trying to open xsdk like that and it opens a separate cmd that needs to be closed and xsdk can run on its own

Before launching xsdk I run (source) the Env / Paths (with settings64.bat) so that xsdk.bat command gets recognized (simply as xsdk, withoitu the .bat)

what works with .bat

call BatToExecute

How to format a URL to get a file from Amazon S3?

As @stevebot said, do this:

https://<bucket-name>.s3.amazonaws.com/<key>

The one important thing I would like to add is that you either have to make your bucket objects all publicly accessible OR you can add a custom policy to your bucket policy. That custom policy could allow traffic from your network IP range or a different credential.

Permission to write to the SD card

You're right that the SD Card directory is /sdcard but you shouldn't be hard coding it. Instead, make a call to Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() to get the directory:

File sdDir = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory();

If you haven't done so already, you will need to give your app the correct permission to write to the SD Card by adding the line below to your Manifest:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" />

How to insert Records in Database using C# language?

You should form the command with the contents of the textboxes:

sql = "insert into Main (Firt Name, Last Name) values(" + textbox2.Text + "," + textbox3.Text+ ")";

This, of course, provided that you manage to open the connection correctly.

It would be helpful to know what's happening with your current code. If you are getting some error displayed in that message box, it would be great to know what it's saying.

You should also validate the inputs before actually running the command (i.e. make sure they don't contain malicious code...).

How to create temp table using Create statement in SQL Server?

A temporary table can have 3 kinds, the # is the most used. This is a temp table that only exists in the current session. An equivalent of this is @, a declared table variable. This has a little less "functions" (like indexes etc) and is also only used for the current session. The ## is one that is the same as the #, however, the scope is wider, so you can use it within the same session, within other stored procedures.

You can create a temp table in various ways:

declare @table table (id int)
create table #table (id int)
create table ##table (id int)
select * into #table from xyz

scrollable div inside container

The simplest way is as this example:

<div>
   <div style=' height:300px;'>
     SOME LOGO OR CONTENT HERE
   </div>
   <div style='overflow-x: hidden;overflow-y: scroll;'>
      THIS IS SOME TEXT
   </DIV>

You can see the test cases on: https://www.w3schools.com/css/css_overflow.asp

Find out which remote branch a local branch is tracking

Update: Well, it's been several years since I posted this! For my specific purpose of comparing HEAD to upstream, I now use @{u}, which is a shortcut that refers to the HEAD of the upstream tracking branch. (See https://git-scm.com/docs/gitrevisions#gitrevisions-emltbranchnamegtupstreamemegemmasterupstreamememuem ).

Original answer: I've run across this problem as well. I often use multiple remotes in a single repository, and it's easy to forget which one your current branch is tracking against. And sometimes it's handy to know that, such as when you want to look at your local commits via git log remotename/branchname..HEAD.

All this stuff is stored in git config variables, but you don't have to parse the git config output. If you invoke git config followed by the name of a variable, it will just print the value of that variable, no parsing required. With that in mind, here are some commands to get info about your current branch's tracking setup:

LOCAL_BRANCH=`git name-rev --name-only HEAD`
TRACKING_BRANCH=`git config branch.$LOCAL_BRANCH.merge`
TRACKING_REMOTE=`git config branch.$LOCAL_BRANCH.remote`
REMOTE_URL=`git config remote.$TRACKING_REMOTE.url`

In my case, since I'm only interested in finding out the name of my current remote, I do this:

git config branch.`git name-rev --name-only HEAD`.remote

Float right and position absolute doesn't work together

Generally speaking, float is a relative positioning statement, since it specifies the position of the element relative to its parent container (floating to the right or left). This means it's incompatible with the position:absolute property, because position:absolute is an absolute positioning statement. You can either float an element and allow the browser to position it relative to its parent container, or you can specify an absolute position and force the element to appear in a certain position regardless of its parent. If you want an absolutely-positioned element to appear on the right side of the screen, you can use position: absolute; right: 0;, but this will cause the element to always appear on the right edge of the screen regardless of how wide its parent div is (so it won't be "at the right of its parent div").

HTML-encoding lost when attribute read from input field

Picking what escapeHTML() is doing in the prototype.js

Adding this script helps you escapeHTML:

String.prototype.escapeHTML = function() {
    return this.replace(/&/g,'&amp;').replace(/</g,'&lt;').replace(/>/g,'&gt;')
}

now you can call escapeHTML method on strings in your script, like:

var escapedString = "<h1>this is HTML</h1>".escapeHTML();
// gives: "&lt;h1&gt;this is HTML&lt;/h1&gt;"

Hope it helps anyone looking for a simple solution without having to include the entire prototype.js

Java String to JSON conversion

The name is present inside the data. You need to parse a JSON hierarchically to be able to fetch the data properly.

JSONObject jObject  = new JSONObject(output); // json
JSONObject data = jObject.getJSONObject("data"); // get data object
String projectname = data.getString("name"); // get the name from data.

Note: This example uses the org.json.JSONObject class and not org.json.simple.JSONObject.

As "Matthew" mentioned in the comments that he is using org.json.simple.JSONObject, I'm adding my comment details in the answer.

Try to use the org.json.JSONObject instead. But then if you can't change your JSON library, you can refer to this example which uses the same library as yours and check the how to read a json part from it.

Sample from the link provided:

JSONObject jsonObject = (JSONObject) obj;
String name = (String) jsonObject.get("name");

Biggest advantage to using ASP.Net MVC vs web forms

Anyone old enough to remember classic ASP will remember the nightmare of opening a page with code mixed in with html and javascript - even the smallest page was a pain to figure out what the heck it was doing. I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but MVC looks like going back to those bad old days.

When ASP.Net came along it was hailed as the savior, separating code from content and allowing us to have web designers create the html and coders work on the code behind. If we didn't want to use ViewState, we turned it off. If we didn't want to use code behind for some reason, we could place our code inside the html just like classic ASP. If we didn't want to use PostBack we redirected to another page for processing. If we didn't want to use ASP.Net controls we used standard html controls. We could even interrogate the Response object if we didn't want to use ASP.Net runat="server" on our controls.

Now someone in their great wisdom (probably someone who never programmed classic ASP) has decided it's time to go back to the days of mixing code with content and call it "separation of concerns". Sure, you can create cleaner html, but you could with classic ASP. To say "you are not programming correctly if you have too much code inside your view" is like saying "if you wrote well structured and commented code in classic ASP it is far cleaner and better than ASP.NET"

If I wanted to go back to mixing code with content I'd look at developing using PHP which has a far more mature environment for that kind of development. If there are so many problems with ASP.NET then why not fix those issues?

Last but not least the new Razor engine means it is even harder to distinguish between html and code. At least we could look for opening and closing tags i.e. <% and %> in ASP but now the only indication will be the @ symbol.

It might be time to move to PHP and wait another 10 years for someone to separate code from content once again.

How to save python screen output to a text file

What you're asking for isn't impossible, but it's probably not what you actually want.

Instead of trying to save the screen output to a file, just write the output to a file instead of to the screen.

Like this:

with open('outfile.txt', 'w') as outfile:
    print >>outfile, 'Data collected on:', input['header']['timestamp'].date()

Just add that >>outfile into all your print statements, and make sure everything is indented under that with statement.

More generally, it's better to use string formatting rather than magic print commas, which means you can use the write function instead. For example:

outfile.write('Data collected on: {}'.format(input['header']['timestamp'].date()))

But if print is already doing what you want as far as formatting goes, you can stick with it for now.

What if you've got some Python script someone else wrote (or, worse, a compiled C program that you don't have the source to) and can't make this change? Then the answer is to wrap it in another script that captures its output, with the subprocess module. Again, you probably don't want that, but if you do:

output = subprocess.check_output([sys.executable, './otherscript.py'])
with open('outfile.txt', 'wb') as outfile:
    outfile.write(output)

how to Call super constructor in Lombok

If child class has more members, than parent, it could be done not very clean, but short way:

@Data
@RequiredArgsConstructor
@EqualsAndHashCode(callSuper = true)
@ToString(callSuper = true)
public class User extends BaseEntity {
    private @NonNull String fullName;
    private @NonNull String email;
    ...

    public User(Integer id, String fullName, String email, ....) {
        this(fullName, email, ....);
        this.id = id;
    }
}

@Data
@AllArgsConstructor
abstract public class BaseEntity {
   protected Integer id;

   public boolean isNew() {
      return id == null;
   }
}

PHP PDO with foreach and fetch

foreach over a statement is just a syntax sugar for the regular one-way fetch() loop. If you want to loop over your data more than once, select it as a regular array first

$sql = "SELECT * FROM users";
$stm = $dbh->query($sql);
// here you go:
$users = $stm->fetchAll();

foreach ($users as $row) {
    print $row["name"] . "-" . $row["sex"] ."<br/>";
}
echo "<br/>";
foreach ($users as $row) {
    print $row["name"] . "-" . $row["sex"] ."<br/>";
}

Also quit that try..catch thing. Don't use it, but set the proper error reporting for PHP and PDO

What is the minimum I have to do to create an RPM file?

Process of generating RPM from source file:

  1. download source file with.gz extention.
  2. install rpm-build and rpmdevtools from yum install. (rpmbuild folder will be generated...SPECS,SOURCES,RPMS.. folders will should be generated inside the rpmbuild folder).
  3. copy the source code.gz to SOURCES folder.(rpmbuild/SOURCES)
  4. Untar the tar ball by using the following command. go to SOURCES folder :rpmbuild/SOURCES where tar file is present. command: e.g tar -xvzf httpd-2.22.tar.gz httpd-2.22 folder will be generated in the same path.
  5. go to extracted folder and then type below command: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 --with-included-apr --enable-proxy --enable-proxy-balancer --with-mpm=worker --enable-mods-static=all (.configure may vary according to source for which RPM has to built-- i have done for apache HTTPD which needs apr and apr-util dependency package).
  6. run below command once the configure is successful: make
  7. after successfull execution od make command run: checkinstall in tha same folder. (if you dont have checkinstall software please download latest version from site) Also checkinstall software has bug which can be solved by following way::::: locate checkinstallrc and then replace TRANSLATE = 1 to TRANSLATE=0 using vim command. Also check for exclude package: EXCLUDE="/selinux"
  8. checkinstall will ask for option (type R if you want tp build rpm for source file)
  9. Done .rpm file will be built in RPMS folder inside rpmbuild/RPMS file... ALL the BEST ....

Why is my JavaScript function sometimes "not defined"?

I had this function not being recognized as defined in latest Firefox for Linux, though Chromium was dealing fine with it.

What happened in my case was that I had a former SCRIPT block, before the block that defined the function with problem, stated in the following way:

<SCRIPT src="mycode.js"/>

(That is, without the closing tag.)

I had to redeclare this block in the following way.

<SCRIPT src="mycode.js"></SCRIPT>

And then what followed worked fine... weird huh?

How do I run a program with commandline arguments using GDB within a Bash script?

If the --args parameter is not working on your machine (i.e. on Solaris 8), you may start gdb like

gdb -ex "set args <arg 1> <arg 2> ... <arg n>"

And you can combine this with inputting a file to stdin and "running immediatelly":

gdb -ex "set args <arg 1> <arg 2> ... <arg n> < <input file>" -ex "r"

WSDL validator?

If you're using Eclipse, just have your WSDL in a .wsdl file, eclipse will validate it automatically.

From the Doc

The WSDL validator handles validation according to the 4 step process defined above. Steps 1 and 2 are both delegated to Apache Xerces (and XML parser). Step 3 is handled by the WSDL validator and any extension namespace validators (more on extensions below). Step 4 is handled by any declared custom validators (more on this below as well). Each step must pass in order for the next step to run.

Max length UITextField

Swift 3

func textField(_ textField: UITextField, shouldChangeCharactersIn range: NSRange, replacementString string: String) -> Bool {

            let nsString = NSString(string: textField.text!)
            let newText = nsString.replacingCharacters(in: range, with: string)
            return  newText.characters.count <= limitCount
    }

Why use #define instead of a variable

The #define is part of the preprocessor language for C and C++. When they're used in code, the compiler just replaces the #define statement with what ever you want. For example, if you're sick of writing for (int i=0; i<=10; i++) all the time, you can do the following:

#define fori10 for (int i=0; i<=10; i++)

// some code...

fori10 {
    // do stuff to i
}

If you want something more generic, you can create preprocessor macros:

#define fori(x) for (int i=0; i<=x; i++)
// the x will be replaced by what ever is put into the parenthesis, such as
// 20 here
fori(20) {
    // do more stuff to i
}

It's also very useful for conditional compilation (the other major use for #define) if you only want certain code used in some particular build:

// compile the following if debugging is turned on and defined
#ifdef DEBUG
// some code
#endif

Most compilers will allow you to define a macro from the command line (e.g. g++ -DDEBUG something.cpp), but you can also just put a define in your code like so:

#define DEBUG

  2. C++ specific site

  5. C specific site (I don't think it's different from the C++ version though)

Changing the Git remote 'push to' default

Like docs say:

When the command line does not specify where to push with the <repository> argument, branch.*.remote configuration for the current branch is consulted to determine where to push. If the configuration is missing, it defaults to origin.

Printing PDFs from Windows Command Line

Looks like you are missing the printer name, driver, and port - in that order. Your final command should resemble:

AcroRd32.exe /t <file.pdf> <printer_name> <printer_driver> <printer_port>

For example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /t "C:\Folder\File.pdf" "Brother MFC-7820N USB Printer" "Brother MFC-7820N USB Printer" "IP_192.168.10.110"

Note: To find the printer information, right click your printer and choose properties. In my case shown above, the printer name and driver name matched - but your information may differ.

Double precision floating values in Python?

Here is my solution. I first create random numbers with random.uniform, format them in to string with double precision and then convert them back to float. You can adjust the precision by changing '.2f' to '.3f' etc..

import random
from decimal import Decimal

GndSpeedHigh = float(format(Decimal(random.uniform(5, 25)), '.2f'))
GndSpeedLow = float(format(Decimal(random.uniform(2, GndSpeedHigh)), '.2f'))
GndSpeedMean = float(Decimal(format(GndSpeedHigh + GndSpeedLow) / 2, '.2f')))
print(GndSpeedMean)

How to set HTML Auto Indent format on Sublime Text 3?

This is an adaptation of the above answer, but should be more complete.

To be clear, this is to re-introduce previous auto-indent features when HTML files are open in Sublime Text. So when you finish a tag, it automatically indents for the next element.

Windows Users

Go to C:\Program Files\Sublime Text 3\Packages extract HTML.sublime-package as if it is a zip file to a directory.

Response.Headers.Add("Content-Disposition", cd.ToString());

What is a database transaction?

A transaction is a sequence of one or more SQL operations that are treated as a unit.

Specifically, each transaction appears to run in isolation, and furthermore, if the system fails, each transaction is either executed in its entirety or not all.

The concept of transactions is motivated by two completely independent concerns. One has to do with concurrent access to the database by multiple clients, and the other has to do with having a system that is resilient to system failures.

Transaction supports what is known as the ACID properties:

  • A: Atomicity;
  • C: Consistency;
  • I: Isolation;
  • D: Durability.

Open multiple Eclipse workspaces on the Mac

This seems to be the supported native method in OS X:

cd /Applications/eclipse/

open -n Eclipse.app

Be sure to specify the ".app" version (directory); in OS X Mountain Lion erroneously using the symbolic link such as open -n eclipse, might get one GateKeeper stopping access:

"eclipse" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

Even removing the extended attribute com.apple.quarantine does not fix that. Instead, simply using the ".app" version will rely on your previous consent, or prompt you once:

"Eclipse" is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?

Selenium WebDriver.get(url) does not open the URL

@Neeraj

I've resolved this problem, but i'm not sure if you are the same reason.

In general, my problem was caused by some permission issues.

I tried to move my whole project into ~/:

mv xxx/ ~/

and then i change give it the 777 permission:

chmod -R 777 xxx/

I'm not familiar with linux permission so i just do this to make sure i have permission to execute the program.

Even you don't have permission, the selenium program will not prompt you.

So, good luck.

How do I get the Session Object in Spring?

Since you're using Spring, stick with Spring, don't hack it yourself like the other post posits.

The Spring manual says:

You shouldn't interact directly with the HttpSession for security purposes. There is simply no justification for doing so - always use the SecurityContextHolder instead.

The suggested best practice for accessing the session is:

Object principal = SecurityContextHolder.getContext().getAuthentication().getPrincipal();

if (principal instanceof UserDetails) {
  String username = ((UserDetails)principal).getUsername();
} else {
  String username = principal.toString();
}

The key here is that Spring and Spring Security do all sorts of great stuff for you like Session Fixation Prevention. These things assume that you're using the Spring framework as it was designed to be used. So, in your servlet, make it context aware and access the session like the above example.

If you just need to stash some data in the session scope, try creating some session scoped bean like this example and let autowire do its magic. :)

Prevent wrapping of span or div

As mentioned you can use:

overflow: scroll;

If you only want the scroll bar to appear when necessary, you can use the "auto" option:

overflow: auto;

I don't think you should be using the "float" property with "overflow", but I'd have to try out your example first.

Howto? Parameters and LIKE statement SQL

You may have to concatenate the % signs with your parameter, e.g.:

Edit: Actually, that may not make any sense at all. I think I may have misunderstood your problem.

How to apply !important using .css()?

I think I've found a solution. I've made it into a new function:

jQuery.style(name, value, priority);

You can use it to get values with .style('name') just like .css('name'), get the CSSStyleDeclaration with .style(), and also set values, with the ability to specify the priority as 'important'. See this.

Example

var div = $('someDiv');
console.log(div.style('color'));
div.style('color', 'red');
console.log(div.style('color'));
div.style('color', 'blue', 'important');
console.log(div.style('color'));
console.log(div.style().getPropertyPriority('color'));

Example output:

null
red
blue
important

The Function

(function($) {
  if ($.fn.style) {
    return;
  }

  // Escape regex chars with \
  var escape = function(text) {

      }
    } else {
      // Get CSSStyleDeclaration
      return style;
    }
  };
})(jQuery);

See this for examples of how to read and set the CSS values. My issue was that I had already set !important for the width in my CSS to avoid conflicts with other theme CSS, but any changes I made to the width in jQuery would be unaffected since they would be added to the style attribute.

Compatibility

For setting with the priority using the setProperty function, This Article says there is support for IE 9+ and all other browsers. I have tried with IE 8 and it has failed, which is why I built support for it in my functions (see above). It will work on all other browsers using setProperty, but it will need my custom code to work in < IE 9.

How to get first object out from List<Object> using Linq

Try this to get all the list at first, then your desired element (say the First in your case):

var desiredElementCompoundValueList = new List<YourType>();
dic.Values.ToList().ForEach( elem =>
{
   desiredElementCompoundValue.Add(elem.ComponentValue("Dep"));
});
var x = desiredElementCompoundValueList.FirstOrDefault();

To get directly the first element value without a lot of foreach iteration and variable assignment:

var desiredCompoundValue = dic.Values.ToList().Select( elem => elem.CompoundValue("Dep")).FirstOrDefault();

See the difference between the two approaches: in the first one you get the list through a ForEach, then your element. In the second you can get your value in a straight way.

Same result, different computation ;)

AWK: Access captured group from line pattern

This is something I need all the time so I created a bash function for it. It's based on glenn jackman's answer.

Definition

Add this to your .bash_profile etc.

function regex { gawk 'match($0,/'$1'/, ary) {print ary['${2:-'0'}']}'; }

Usage

Capture regex for each line in file

$ cat filename | regex '.*'

Capture 1st regex capture group for each line in file

$ cat filename | regex '(.*)' 1

Nodejs convert string into UTF-8

I'd recommend using the Buffer class:

var someEncodedString = Buffer.from('someString', 'utf-8');

This avoids any unnecessary dependencies that other answers require, since Buffer is included with node.js, and is already defined in the global scope.

Correct way to handle conditional styling in React

Another way, using inline style and the spread operator

style={{
  ...completed ? { textDecoration: completed } : {}
}}

That way be useful in some situations where you want to add a bunch of properties at the same time base on the condition.

"Are you missing an assembly reference?" compile error - Visual Studio

Are you strong-naming your assemblies? In that case it is not a good idea to auto-increment your build number because with every new build number you will also have to update all your references.

How to "git show" a merge commit with combined diff output even when every changed file agrees with one of the parents?

Seems like answered here: https://public-inbox.org/git/[email protected]/

So in a similar way, running

$ git diff --cc $M $M^1 $M^2 $(git merge-base $M^1 $M^2)

should show a combined patch that explains the state at $M relative to the states recorded in its parents and the merge base.

How can I pass a reference to a function, with parameters?

What you are after is called partial function application.

Don't be fooled by those that don't understand the subtle difference between that and currying, they are different.

Partial function application can be used to implement, but is not currying. Here is a quote from a blog post on the difference:

Where partial application takes a function and from it builds a function which takes fewer arguments, currying builds functions which take multiple arguments by composition of functions which each take a single argument.

This has already been answered, see this question for your answer: How can I pre-set arguments in JavaScript function call?

Example:

var fr = partial(f, 1, 2, 3);

// now, when you invoke fr() it will invoke f(1,2,3)
fr();

Again, see that question for the details.

How to use a WSDL

If you want to add wsdl reference in .Net Core project, there is no "Add web reference" option.

To add the wsdl reference go to Solution Explorer, right-click on the References project item and then click on the Add Connected Service option.

enter image description here

Then click 'Microsoft WCF Web Service Reference':

enter image description here

Enter the file path into URI text box and import the WSDL:

enter image description here

It will generate a simple, very basic WCF client and you to use it something like this:

YourServiceClient client = new YourServiceClient();
client.DoSomething();

Checking from shell script if a directory contains files

This may be a really late response but here is a solution that works. This line only recognizes th existance of files! It will not give you a false positive if directories exist.

if find /path/to/check/* -maxdepth 0 -type f | read
  then echo "Files Exist"
fi

Extracting the last n characters from a string in R

Just in case if a range of characters need to be picked:

# For example, to get the date part from the string

substrRightRange <- function(x, m, n){substr(x, nchar(x)-m+1, nchar(x)-m+n)}

value <- "REGNDATE:20170526RN"
substrRightRange(value, 10, 8)

[1] "20170526"

How to write UPDATE SQL with Table alias in SQL Server 2008?

You can always take the CTE, (Common Tabular Expression), approach.

;WITH updateCTE AS
(
    SELECT ID, TITLE
    FROM HOLD_TABLE
    WHERE ID = 101
)

UPDATE updateCTE
SET TITLE = 'TEST';

How to handle a single quote in Oracle SQL

I found the above answer giving an error with Oracle SQL, you also must use square brackets, below;

Result: Paddy O'Reilly

Python: Total sum of a list of numbers with the for loop

Converting Dictionary to List?

 >>> a = {'foo': 'bar', 'baz': 'quux', 'hello': 'world'}
 >>> list(reduce(lambda x, y: x + y, a.items()))
 ['foo', 'bar', 'baz', 'quux', 'hello', 'world']

To explain: a.items() returns a list of tuples. Adding two tuples together makes one tuple containing all elements. Thus the reduction creates one tuple containing all keys and values and then the list(...) makes a list from that.

How to export table data in MySql Workbench to csv?

MySQL Workbench 6.3.6

Export the SELECT result

  • After you run a SELECT: Query > Export Results...

    Query Export Results

Export table data

  • In the Navigator, right click on the table > Table Data Export Wizard

    Table Data Export

  • All columns and rows are included by default, so click on Next.

  • Select File Path, type, Field Separator (by default it is ;, not ,!!!) and click on Next.

    CSV

  • Click Next > Next > Finish and the file is created in the specified location

Function for C++ struct

Yes, a struct is identical to a class except for the default access level (member-wise and inheritance-wise). (and the extra meaning class carries when used with a template)

Every functionality supported by a class is consequently supported by a struct. You'd use methods the same as you'd use them for a class.

struct foo {
  int bar;
  foo() : bar(3) {}   //look, a constructor
  int getBar()
  {
    return bar;
  }
};

foo f;
int y = f.getBar(); // y is 3

How to get directory size in PHP

There are several things you could do to optimise the script - but maximum success would make it IO-bound rather than CPU-bound:

  1. Calculate rtrim($path, '/') outside the loop.
  2. make if ($t<>"." && $t<>"..") the outer test - it doesn't need to stat the path
  3. Calculate rtrim($path, '/') . '/' . $t once per loop - inside 2) and taking 1) into account.
  4. Calculate explode(' ','B KB MB GB TB PB'); once rather than each call?

calculating the difference in months between two dates

If you want the exact number, you can't from just the Timespan, since you need to know which months you're dealing, and whether you're dealing with a leap year, like you said.

Either go for an approximate number, or do some fidgetting with the original DateTimes

How can you change Network settings (IP Address, DNS, WINS, Host Name) with code in C#

A slightly more concise example that builds on top of the other answers here. I leveraged the code generation that is shipped with Visual Studio to remove most of the extra invocation code and replaced it with typed objects instead.

Why can't overriding methods throw exceptions broader than the overridden method?

To understand this let's consider an example where we have a class Mammal which defines readAndGet method which is reading some file, doing some operation on it and returning an instance of class Mammal.

class Mammal {
    public Mammal readAndGet() throws IOException {//read file and return Mammal`s object}
}

Class Human extends class Mammal and overrides readAndGet method to return the instance of Human instead of the instance of Mammal.

class Human extends Mammal {
    @Override
    public Human readAndGet() throws FileNotFoundException {//read file and return Human object}
}

To call readAndGet we will need to handle IOException because its a checked exception and mammal's readAndMethod is throwing it.

Mammal mammal = new Human();
try {
    Mammal obj = mammal.readAndGet();
} catch (IOException ex) {..}

And we know that for compiler mammal.readAndGet() is getting called from the object of class Mammal but at, runtime JVM will resolve mammal.readAndGet() method call to a call from class Human because mammal is holding new Human().

Method readAndMethod from Mammal is throwing IOException and because it is a checked exception compiler will force us to catch it whenever we call readAndGet on mammal

Now suppose readAndGet in Human is throwing any other checked exception e.g. Exception and we know readAndGet will get called from the instance of Human because mammal is holding new Human().

Because for compiler the method is getting called from Mammal, so the compiler will force us to handle only IOException but at runtime we know method will be throwing Exception exception which is not getting handled and our code will break if the method throws the exception.

That's why it is prevented at the compiler level itself and we are not allowed to throw any new or broader checked exception because it will not be handled by JVM at the end.

There are other rules as well which we need to follow while overriding the methods and you can read more on Why We Should Follow Method Overriding Rules to know the reasons.

How do I find the date a video (.AVI .MP4) was actually recorded?

The best way I found of getting the "dateTaken" date for either video or pictures is to use:

 Imports Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell
 Imports Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell.PropertySystem
 Imports System.IO
 Dim picture As ShellObject = ShellObject.FromParsingName(path)
 Dim picture As ShellObject = ShellObject.FromParsingName(path)
 Dim ItemDate=picture.Properties.System.ItemDate

The above code requires the shell api, which is internal to Microsoft, and does not depend on any other external dll.

how to get html content from a webview?

Its Simple to implement Just need javasript methods in your html to get value of html content. As Above your code some changes to be need.

CKEditor instance already exists

Indeed, removing the ".ckeditor" class from your code solves the issue. Most of us followed the jQuery integration example from the ckeditor's documentation:

$('.jquery_ckeditor')
.ckeditor( function() { /* callback code */ }, { skin : 'office2003' } );

and thought "... maybe I can just get rid or the '.jquery_' part".

I've been wasting my time tweaking the callback function (because the {skin:'office2003'} actually worked), while the problem was coming from elsewhere.

I think the documentation should mention that the use of "ckeditor" as a class name is not recommended, because it is a reserved keyword.

Cheers.

Add new value to an existing array in JavaScript

Array is a JavaScript native object, why don't you just try to use the API of it? Knowing API on its own will save you time when you will switch to pure JavaScript or another framework.

There are number of different possibilities, so, use the one which mostly targets your needs.

Creating array with values:

var array = ["value1", "value2", "value3"];

Adding values to the end

var array = [];
array.push("value1");
array.push("value2");
array.push("value3");

Adding values to the begin:

var array = [];
array.unshift("value1");
array.unshift("value2");
array.unshift("value3");

Adding values at some index:

var array = [];
array[index] = "value1";

or by using splice

array.splice(index, 0, "value1", "value2", "value3");

Choose one you need.

Save and load weights in keras

For loading weights, you need to have a model first. It must be:

existingModel.save_weights('weightsfile.h5')
existingModel.load_weights('weightsfile.h5')

If you want to save and load the entire model (this includes the model's configuration, it's weights and the optimizer states for further training):

model.save_model('filename')
model = load_model('filename')

Understanding inplace=True

When trying to make changes to a Pandas dataframe using a function, we use 'inplace=True' if we want to commit the changes to the dataframe. Therefore, the first line in the following code changes the name of the first column in 'df' to 'Grades'. We need to call the database if we want to see the resulting database.

df.rename(columns={0: 'Grades'}, inplace=True)
df

We use 'inplace=False' (this is also the default value) when we don't want to commit the changes but just print the resulting database. So, in effect a copy of the original database with the committed changes is printed without altering the original database.

Just to be more clear, the following codes do the same thing:

#Code 1
df.rename(columns={0: 'Grades'}, inplace=True)
#Code 2
df=df.rename(columns={0: 'Grades'}, inplace=False}

How to wait till the response comes from the $http request, in angularjs?

for people new to this you can also use a callback for example:

In your service:

.factory('DataHandler',function ($http){

   var GetRandomArtists = function(data, callback){
     $http.post(URL, data).success(function (response) {
         callback(response);
      });
   }
})

In your controller:

    DataHandler.GetRandomArtists(3, function(response){
      $scope.data.random_artists = response;
   });

Setting java locale settings

One way to control the locale settings is to set the java system properties user.language and user.region.

Integer value comparison

One more thing to watch out for is if the second value was another Integer object instead of a literal '0', the '==' operator compares the object pointers and will not auto-unbox.

ie:

Integer a = new Integer(0);
Integer b = new Integer(0);
int c = 0;

boolean isSame_EqOperator = (a==b); //false!
boolean isSame_EqMethod = (a.equals(b)); //true
boolean isSame_EqAutoUnbox = ((a==c) && (a.equals(c)); //also true, because of auto-unbox

//Note: for initializing a and b, the Integer constructor
// is called explicitly to avoid integer object caching
// for the purpose of the example.
// Calling it explicitly ensures each integer is created
// as a separate object as intended.

What is an optional value in Swift?

In objective C variables with no value were equal to 'nil'(it was also possible to use 'nil' values same as 0 and false), hence it was possible to use variables in conditional statements (Variables having values are same as 'TRUE' and those with no values were equal to 'FALSE').

Swift provides type safety by providing 'optional value'. i.e. It prevents errors formed from assigning variables of different types.

So in Swift, only booleans can be provided on conditional statements.

var hw = "Hello World"

Here, even-though 'hw' is a string, it can't be used in an if statement like in objective C.

//This is an error

if hw

 {..}

For that it needs to be created as,

var nhw : String? = "Hello World"

//This is correct

if nhw

 {..}

HTML form with multiple "actions"

As @AliK mentioned, this can be done easily by looking at the value of the submit buttons.

When you submit a form, unset variables will evaluate false. If you set both submit buttons to be part of the same form, you can just check and see which button has been set.

HTML:

<form action="handle_user.php" method="POST" />
  <input type="submit" value="Save" name="save" />
  <input type="submit" value="Submit for Approval" name="approve" />
</form>

PHP

if($_POST["save"]) {
  //User hit the save button, handle accordingly
}
//You can do an else, but I prefer a separate statement
if($_POST["approve"]) {
  //User hit the Submit for Approval button, handle accordingly
}

EDIT

If you'd rather not change your PHP setup, try this: http://pastebin.com/j0GUF7MV
This is the JavaScript method @AliK was reffering to.

Failed to load resource: net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE

Try this code to watch for, and report, a possible net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE

I was having this issue as well, using a self-signed certificate, which I have chosen not to save into the Chrome Settings. After accessing the https domain and accepting the certificate, the ajax call works fine. But once that acceptance has timed-out or before it has first been accepted, the jQuery.ajax() call fails silently: the timeout parameter does not seem help and the error() function never gets called.

As such, my code never receives a success() or error() call and therefore hangs. I believe this is a bug in jquery's handling of this error. My solution is to force the error() call after a specified timeout.

This code does assume a jquery ajax call of the form jQuery.ajax({url: required, success: optional, error: optional, others_ajax_params: optional}).

Note: You will likely want to change the function within the setTimeout to integrate best with your UI: rather than calling alert().

const MS_FOR_HTTPS_FAILURE = 5000;
$.orig_ajax = $.ajax;
$.ajax = function(params)
{
  var complete = false;
  var success = params.success;
  var error = params.error;
  params.success = function() {
    if(!complete) {
      complete = true;
      if(success) success.apply(this,arguments);
    }
  }
  params.error = function() {
    if(!complete) {
      complete = true;
      if(error) error.apply(this,arguments);
    }
  }
  setTimeout(function() {
    if(!complete) {
      complete = true;
      alert("Please ensure your self-signed HTTPS certificate has been accepted. "
        + params.url);
      if(params.error)
        params.error( {},
          "Connection failure",
          "Timed out while waiting to connect to remote resource. " +
          "Possibly could not authenticate HTTPS certificate." );
    }
  }, MS_FOR_HTTPS_FAILURE);

  $.orig_ajax(params);
}

How do I detect if Python is running as a 64-bit application?

While it may work on some platforms, be aware that platform.architecture is not always a reliable way to determine whether python is running in 32-bit or 64-bit. In particular, on some OS X multi-architecture builds, the same executable file may be capable of running in either mode, as the example below demonstrates. The quickest safe multi-platform approach is to test sys.maxsize on Python 2.6, 2.7, Python 3.x.

$ arch -i386 /usr/local/bin/python2.7

What’s the best RESTful method to return total number of items in an object?

I prefer using HTTP Headers for this kind of contextual information.

For the total number of elements, I use the X-total-count header.
For links to next, previous page, etc. I use HTTP Link header:
http://www.w3.org/wiki/LinkHeader

Github does it the same way: https://developer.github.com/v3/#pagination

In my opinion, it's cleaner since it can be used also when you return content that doesn't support hyperlinks (i.e binaries, pictures).

set the width of select2 input (through Angular-ui directive)

Setting width to 'resolve' didn't work for me. Instead, i added "width:100%" to my select, and modified the css like this :

.select2-offscreen {position: fixed !important;}

This was the only solution that worked for me (my version is 2.2.1) Your select will take all the available place, it is better than using

class="input-medium"

from bootstrap, because the select is always staying in the container, even after resizing the window (responsive)

Do on-demand Mac OS X cloud services exist, comparable to Amazon's EC2 on-demand instances?

Amazon EC2 cannot offer Mac OS X EC2 instances due to Apple's tight licensing to only allow it to legally run on Apple hardware and the current EC2 infrastructure relies upon virtualized hardware.

Apple Mac image on Amazon EC2?

Can you run OS X on an Amazon EC2 instance?

There are other companies that do provide Mac OS X hosting, presumably on Apple hardware. One example is Go Daddy:

Setting max width for body using Bootstrap

Edit

A better way to do this is:

  1. Create your own less file as a main less file ( like bootstrap.less ).

  2. Import all bootstrap less files you need. (in this case, you just need to Import all responsive less files but responsive-1200px-min.less)

  3. If you need to modify anything in original bootstrap less file, you just need to write your own less to overwrite bootstrap's less code. (Just remember to put your less code/file after @import { /* bootstrap's less file */ };).

Original

I have the same problem. This is how I fixed it.

Find the media query:

@media (max-width:1200px) ...

Remove it. (I mean the whole thing , not just @media (max-width:1200px))

Since the default width of Bootstrap is 940px, you don't need to do anything.

If you want to have your own max-width, just modify the css rule in the media query that matches your desired width.

How do I keep the screen on in my App?

Lots of answers already exist here! I am answering this question with additional and reliable solutions:

Using PowerManager.WakeLock is not so reliable a solution, as the app requires additional permissions.

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" />

Also, if it accidentally remains holding the wake lock, it can leave the screen on.

So, I recommend not using the PowerManager.WakeLock solution. Instead of this, use any of the following solutions:

First:

We can use getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON); in onCreate()

@Override
        protected void onCreate(Bundle icicle) {
            super.onCreate(icicle);
            getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON);
        }

Second:

we can use keepScreenOn

1. implementation using setKeepScreenOn() in java code:

@Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        View v = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.driver_home, null);// or any View (incase generated programmatically )
        v.setKeepScreenOn(true);
        setContentView(v);
       }

Docs http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#setKeepScreenOn(boolean)

2. Adding keepScreenOn to xml layout

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:keepScreenOn="true" >

Docs http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#attr_android%3akeepScreenOn

Notes (some useful points):

  1. It doesn't matter that keepScreenOn should be used on a Main/Root/Parent View. It can be used with any child view and will work the same way it works in a parent view.
  2. The only thing that matters is that the view's visibility must be visible. Otherwise, it will not work!

Change Tomcat Server's timeout in Eclipse

This problem can occur if you have altogether too much stuff being started when the server is started -- or if you are in debug mode and stepping through the initialization sequence. In eclipse, changing the start-timeout by 'opening' the tomcat server entry 'Servers view' tab of the Debug Perspective is convenient. In some situations it is useful to know where this setting is 'really' stored.

Tomcat reads this setting from the element in the element in the servers.xml file. This file is stored in the .metatdata/.plugins/org.eclipse.wst.server.core directory of your eclipse workspace, ie:

//.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.wst.server.core/servers.xml

There are other juicy configuration files for Eclipse plugins in other directories under .metadata/.plugins as well.

Here's an example of the servers.xml file, which is what is changed when you edit the tomcat server configuration through the Eclipse GUI:

Note the 'start-timeout' property that is set to a good long 1200 seconds above.

Detecting EOF in C

EOF is just a macro with a value (usually -1). You have to test something against EOF, such as the result of a getchar() call.

One way to test for the end of a stream is with the feof function.

if (feof(stdin))

Note, that the 'end of stream' state will only be set after a failed read.

In your example you should probably check the return value of scanf and if this indicates that no fields were read, then check for end-of-file.

google chrome extension :: console.log() from background page?

In relation to the original question I'd like to add to the accepted answer by Mohamed Mansour that there is also a way to make this work the other way around:

You can access other extension pages (i.e. options page, popup page) from within the background page/script with the chrome.extension.getViews() call. As described here.

 // overwrite the console object with the right one.
var optionsPage = (  chrome.extension.getViews()
                 &&  (chrome.extension.getViews().length > 1)  )
                ? chrome.extension.getViews()[1] : null;

 // safety precaution.
if (optionsPage) {
  var console = optionsPage.console;
}

Should 'using' directives be inside or outside the namespace?

Another subtlety that I don't believe has been covered by the other answers is for when you have a class and namespace with the same name.

When you have the import inside the namespace then it will find the class. If the import is outside the namespace then the import will be ignored and the class and namespace have to be fully qualified.

//file1.cs
namespace Foo
{
    class Foo
    {
    }
}

//file2.cs
namespace ConsoleApp3
{
    using Foo;
    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            //This will allow you to use the class
            Foo test = new Foo();
        }
    }
}

//file2.cs
using Foo; //Unused and redundant
namespace Bar
{
    class Bar
    {
        Bar()
        {
            Foo.Foo test = new Foo.Foo();
            Foo test = new Foo(); //will give you an error that a namespace is being used like a class.
        }
    }
}

Android, How can I Convert String to Date?

It could be a good idea to be careful with the Locale upon which c.getTime().toString(); depends.

One idea is to store the time in seconds (e.g. UNIX time). As an int you can easily compare it, and then you just convert it to string when displaying it to the user.

How to limit the number of dropzone.js files uploaded?

The problem with the solutions provided is that you can only upload 1 file ever. In my case I needed to upload only 1 file at a time (on click or on drop).

This was my solution..

    Dropzone.options.myDropzone = {
        maxFiles: 2,
        init: function() {
            this.handleFiles = function(files) {
                var file, _i, _len, _results;
                _results = [];
                for (_i = 0, _len = files.length; _i < _len; _i++) {
                    file = files[_i];
                    _results.push(this.addFile(file));
                    // Make sure we don't handle more files than requested
                    if (this.options.maxFiles != null && this.options.maxFiles > 0 && _i >= (this.options.maxFiles - 1)) {
                        break;
                    }
                }
                return _results;
            };
            this._addFilesFromItems = function(items) {
                var entry, item, _i, _len, _results;
                _results = [];
                for (_i = 0, _len = items.length; _i < _len; _i++) {
                    item = items[_i];
                    if ((item.webkitGetAsEntry != null) && (entry = item.webkitGetAsEntry())) {
                        if (entry.isFile) {
                            _results.push(this.addFile(item.getAsFile()));
                        } else if (entry.isDirectory) {
                            _results.push(this._addFilesFromDirectory(entry, entry.name));
                        } else {
                            _results.push(void 0);
                        }
                    } else if (item.getAsFile != null) {
                        if ((item.kind == null) || item.kind === "file") {
                            _results.push(this.addFile(item.getAsFile()));
                        } else {
                            _results.push(void 0);
                        }
                    } else {
                        _results.push(void 0);
                    }
                    // Make sure we don't handle more files than requested
                    if (this.options.maxFiles != null && this.options.maxFiles > 0 && _i >= (this.options.maxFiles - 1)) {
                        break;
                    }
                }
                return _results;
            };
        }
    };

Hope this helps ;)

How do I disable log messages from the Requests library?

In case you came here looking for a way to modify logging of any (possibly deeply nested) module, use logging.Logger.manager.loggerDict to get a dictionary of all of the logger objects. The returned names can then be used as the argument to logging.getLogger:

import requests
import logging
for key in logging.Logger.manager.loggerDict:
    print(key)
# requests.packages.urllib3.connectionpool
# requests.packages.urllib3.util
# requests.packages
# requests.packages.urllib3
# requests.packages.urllib3.util.retry
# PYREADLINE
# requests
# requests.packages.urllib3.poolmanager

logging.getLogger('requests').setLevel(logging.CRITICAL)
# Could also use the dictionary directly:
# logging.Logger.manager.loggerDict['requests'].setLevel(logging.CRITICAL)

Per user136036 in a comment, be aware that this method only shows you the loggers that exist at the time you run the above snippet. If, for example, a module creates a new logger when you instantiate a class, then you must put this snippet after creating the class in order to print its name.

Remove old Fragment from fragment manager

I had the same issue. I came up with a simple solution. Use fragment .replace instead of fragment .add. Replacing fragment doing the same thing as adding fragment and then removing it manually.

getFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(fragment).commit();

instead of

getFragmentManager().beginTransaction().add(fragment).commit();

Date Difference in php on days?

I would recommend to use date->diff function, as in example below:

   $dStart = new DateTime('2012-07-26');
   $dEnd  = new DateTime('2012-08-26');
   $dDiff = $dStart->diff($dEnd);
   echo $dDiff->format('%r%a'); // use for point out relation: smaller/greater
