Programs & Examples On #Manifold

Manifold System is a geographic information system (GIS) software package with support for vector and raster data, spatial SQL, a built-in Internet Map Server (IMS), and general programming. It is built for use exclusively on Windows. Further information on Manifold can be found on the website www.manifold.net.

Javascript isnull

All mentioned solutions are legit but if we're talking about elegance then I'll pitch in with the following example:

//function that checks if an object is null
var isNull = function(obj) {
  return obj == null;
}

if(isNull(results)){
 return 0;
} else {
  return results[1] || 0;
}

Using the isNull function helps the code be more readable.

What is the easiest way to encrypt a password when I save it to the registry?

This is what you would like to do:

OurKey.SetValue("Password", StringEncryptor.EncryptString(textBoxPassword.Text));
OurKey.GetValue("Password", StringEncryptor.DecryptString(textBoxPassword.Text));

You can do that with this the following classes. This class is a generic class is the client endpoint. It enables IOC of various encryption algorithms using Ninject.

public class StringEncryptor
{
    private static IKernel _kernel;

    static StringEncryptor()
    {
        _kernel = new StandardKernel(new EncryptionModule());
    }

    public static string EncryptString(string plainText)
    {
        return _kernel.Get<IStringEncryptor>().EncryptString(plainText);
    }

    public static string DecryptString(string encryptedText)
    {
        return _kernel.Get<IStringEncryptor>().DecryptString(encryptedText);
    }
}

This next class is the ninject class that allows you to inject the various algorithms:

public class EncryptionModule : StandardModule
{
    public override void Load()
    {
        Bind<IStringEncryptor>().To<TripleDESStringEncryptor>();
    }
}

This is the interface that any algorithm needs to implement to encrypt/decrypt strings:

public interface IStringEncryptor
{
    string EncryptString(string plainText);
    string DecryptString(string encryptedText);
}

This is a implementation using the TripleDES algorithm:

public class TripleDESStringEncryptor : IStringEncryptor
{
    private byte[] _key;
    private byte[] _iv;
    private TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider _provider;

    public TripleDESStringEncryptor()
    {
        _key = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes("GSYAHAGCBDUUADIADKOPAAAW");
        _iv = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes("USAZBGAW");
        _provider = new TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider();
    }

    #region IStringEncryptor Members

    public string EncryptString(string plainText)
    {
        return Transform(plainText, _provider.CreateEncryptor(_key, _iv));
    }

    public string DecryptString(string encryptedText)
    {
        return Transform(encryptedText, _provider.CreateDecryptor(_key, _iv));
    }

    #endregion

    private string Transform(string text, ICryptoTransform transform)
    {
        if (text == null)
        {
            return null;
        }
        using (MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream())
        {
            using (CryptoStream cryptoStream = new CryptoStream(stream, transform, CryptoStreamMode.Write))
            {
                byte[] input = Encoding.Default.GetBytes(text);
                cryptoStream.Write(input, 0, input.Length);
                cryptoStream.FlushFinalBlock();

                return Encoding.Default.GetString(stream.ToArray());
            }
        }
    }
}

This Row already belongs to another table error when trying to add rows?

yourTable.ImportRow(dataRow);

It's because the row you're copying doesn't have the same TableName:

For example, try:

Table1.TableName = "Table1";
Table2.TableName = "Table2";

Bootstrap modal appearing under background

I was fixed this by adding style below to DIV tag

style="background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);"

And add custom css

.modal-backdrop {position: relative;}

Convert string to Time

"16:23:01" doesn't match the pattern of "hh:mm:ss tt" - it doesn't have an am/pm designator, and 16 clearly isn't in a 12-hour clock. You're specifying that format in the parsing part, so you need to match the format of the existing data. You want:

DateTime dateTime = DateTime.ParseExact(time, "HH:mm:ss",
                                        CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);

(Note the invariant culture, not the current culture - assuming your input genuinely always uses colons.)

If you want to format it to hh:mm:ss tt, then you need to put that part in the ToString call:

lblClock.Text = date.ToString("hh:mm:ss tt", CultureInfo.CurrentCulture);

Or better yet (IMO) use "whatever the long time pattern is for the culture":

lblClock.Text = date.ToString("T", CultureInfo.CurrentCulture);

Also note that hh is unusual; typically you don't want to 0-left-pad the number for numbers less than 10.

(Also consider using my Noda Time API, which has a LocalTime type - a more appropriate match for just a "time of day".)

Create an ArrayList with multiple object types?

List<Object> list = new ArrayList<>();
          list.add(1);
          list.add("1");

As the return type of ArrayList is object, you can add any type of data to ArrayList but it is not a good practice to use ArrayList because there is unnecessary boxing and unboxing.

How to vertically align a html radio button to it's label?

While I agree tables shouldn't be used for design layouts contrary to popular belief they do pass validation. i.e. the table tag is not deprecated. The best way to align radio buttons is using the vertical align middle CSS with margins adjusted on the input elements.

Stop setInterval

we can easily stop the set interval by calling clear interval

var count = 0 , i = 5;
var vary = function intervalFunc() {
  count++;
      console.log(count);
    console.log('hello boy');
    if (count == 10) {
      clearInterval(this);
    }
}

  setInterval(vary, 1500);

How do I bottom-align grid elements in bootstrap fluid layout

You need to add some style for span6, smthg like that:

.row-fluid .span6 {
  display: table-cell;
  vertical-align: bottom;
  float: none;
}

and this is your fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/sgB3T/

How to convert entire dataframe to numeric while preserving decimals?

How to convert list of numpy arrays into single numpy array?

I checked some of the methods for speed performance and find that there is no difference! The only difference is that using some methods you must carefully check dimension.

Timing:

|------------|----------------|-------------------|
|            | shape (10000)  |  shape (1,10000)  |
|------------|----------------|-------------------|
| np.concat  |    0.18280     |      0.17960      |
|------------|----------------|-------------------|
|  np.stack  |    0.21501     |      0.16465      |
|------------|----------------|-------------------|
| np.vstack  |    0.21501     |      0.17181      |
|------------|----------------|-------------------|
|  np.array  |    0.21656     |      0.16833      |
|------------|----------------|-------------------|

As you can see I tried 2 experiments - using np.random.rand(10000) and np.random.rand(1, 10000) And if we use 2d arrays than np.stack and np.array create additional dimension - result.shape is (1,10000,10000) and (10000,1,10000) so they need additional actions to avoid this.

Code:

from time import perf_counter
from tqdm import tqdm_notebook
import numpy as np
l = []
for i in tqdm_notebook(range(10000)):
    new_np = np.random.rand(10000)
    l.append(new_np)

start = perf_counter()
stack = np.stack(l, axis=0 )
print(f'np.stack: {perf_counter() - start:.5f}')

start = perf_counter()
vstack = np.vstack(l)
print(f'np.vstack: {perf_counter() - start:.5f}')

start = perf_counter()
wrap = np.array(l)
print(f'np.array: {perf_counter() - start:.5f}')

start = perf_counter()
l = [el.reshape(1,-1) for el in l]
conc = np.concatenate(l, axis=0 )
print(f'np.concatenate: {perf_counter() - start:.5f}')

What is the difference between '/' and '//' when used for division?

The answer of the equation is rounded to the next smaller integer or float with .0 as decimal point.

Add primary key to existing table

There is already an primary key in your table. You can't just add primary key,otherwise will cause error. Because there is one primary key for sql table.

First, you have to drop your old primary key.

MySQL:

ALTER TABLE Persion
DROP PRIMARY KEY;

SQL Server / Oracle / MS Access:

ALTER TABLE Persion
DROP CONSTRAINT 'constraint name';

You have to find the constraint name in your table. If you had given constraint name when you created table,you can easily use the constraint name(ex:PK_Persion).

Second,Add primary key.

MySQL / SQL Server / Oracle / MS Access:

ALTER TABLE Persion ADD PRIMARY KEY (PersionId,Pname,PMID);

or the better one below

ALTER TABLE Persion ADD CONSTRAINT PK_Persion PRIMARY KEY (PersionId,Pname,PMID);

This can set constraint name by developer. It's more easily to maintain the table.

I got a little confuse when i have looked all answers. So I research some document to find every detail. Hope this answer can help other SQL beginner.

CSS background opacity with rgba not working in IE 8

I believe this is the best because on this page has a tool to help you generate alpha-transparent background:

"Cross browser alpha transparent background CSS (rgba)" (*now linked to archive.org)

#div {
    background:rgb(255,0,0);
    background: transparent\9;
    background:rgba(255,0,0,0.3);
    filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#4cFF0000,endColorstr=#4cFF0000);
    zoom: 1;

Using awk to print all columns from the nth to the last

Awk examples looks complex here, here is simple Bash shell syntax:

command | while read -a cols; do echo ${cols[@]:1}; done

Where 1 is your nth column counting from 0.

Example

Given this content of file (in.txt):

c1
c1 c2
c1 c2 c3
c1 c2 c3 c4
c1 c2 c3 c4 c5

here is the output:

$ while read -a cols; do echo ${cols[@]:1}; done < in.txt

c2
c2 c3
c2 c3 c4
c2 c3 c4 c5

How can a LEFT OUTER JOIN return more records than exist in the left table?

In response to your postscript, that depends on what you would like.

You are getting (possible) multiple rows for each row in your left table because there are multiple matches for the join condition. If you want your total results to have the same number of rows as there is in the left part of the query you need to make sure your join conditions cause a 1-to-1 match.

Alternatively, depending on what you actually want you can use aggregate functions (if for example you just want a string from the right part you could generate a column that is a comma delimited string of the right side results for that left row.

If you are only looking at 1 or 2 columns from the outer join you might consider using a scalar subquery since you will be guaranteed 1 result.

How to retrieve the dimensions of a view?

As F.X. mentioned, you can use an OnLayoutChangeListener to the view that you want to track itself

view.addOnLayoutChangeListener(new View.OnLayoutChangeListener() {
    @Override
    public void onLayoutChange(View v, int left, int top, int right, int bottom, int oldLeft, int oldTop, int oldRight, int oldBottom) {
        // Make changes
    }
});

You can remove the listener in the callback if you only want the initial layout.

How to check if a value exists in an object using JavaScript

You can use the Array method .some:

var exists = Object.keys(obj).some(function(k) {
    return obj[k] === "test1";
});

Using context in a fragment

to get the context inside the Fragment will be possible using getActivity() :

public Database()
{
    this.context = getActivity();
    DBHelper = new DatabaseHelper(this.context);
}
  • Be careful, to get the Activity associated with the fragment using getActivity(), you can use it but is not recommended it will cause memory leaks.

I think a better aproach must be getting the Activity from the onAttach() method:

@Override
public void onAttach(Activity activity) {
    super.onAttach(activity);
    context = activity;
}

Deleting an object in C++

Your code is indeed using the normal way to create and delete a dynamic object. Yes, it's perfectly normal (and indeed guaranteed by the language standard!) that delete will call the object's destructor, just like new has to invoke the constructor.

If you weren't instantiating Object1 directly but some subclass thereof, I'd remind you that any class intended to be inherited from must have a virtual destructor (so that the correct subclass's destructor can be invoked in cases analogous to this one) -- but if your sample code is indeed representative of your actual code, this cannot be your current problem -- must be something else, maybe in the destructor code you're not showing us, or some heap-corruption in the code you're not showing within that function or the ones it calls...?

BTW, if you're always going to delete the object just before you exit the function which instantiates it, there's no point in making that object dynamic -- just declare it as a local (storage class auto, as is the default) variable of said function!

How can I create a link to a local file on a locally-run web page?

If you are running IIS on your PC you can add the directory that you are trying to reach as a Virtual Directory. To do this you right-click on your Site in ISS and press "Add Virtual Directory". Name the virtual folder. Point the virtual folder to your folder location on your local PC. You also have to supply credentials that has privileges to access the specific folder eg. HOSTNAME\username and password. After that you can access the file in the virtual folder as any other file on your site.

http://sitename.com/virtual_folder_name/filename.fileextension

By the way, this also works with Chrome that otherwise does not accept the file-protocol file://

Hope this helps someone :)

Error:Unable to locate adb within SDK in Android Studio

Finally after several hours of investigation I think I have another solution for everyone having issues with AVD Manager "Unable to locate adb".

I know we have the setting for the SDK in File -> Settings -> Appearance & Behavior -> System Settings -> Android SDK. This it seems is not enough! It appears that Android Studio (at least the new version 4) does not give projects a default SDK, despite the above setting.

So, you also (for each project) need to go to File -> Project Structure -> Project Settings -> Project, and select the Project SDK, which is set to [No SDK] by default.

If there's nothing in the drop-down box, then select New, select Android SDK, and navigate to your Android SDK location (normally C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk on Windows). You will then be able to select the Android API xx Platform. You now should not get this annoying adb error.

Where to get "UTF-8" string literal in Java?

Class org.apache.commons.lang3.CharEncoding.UTF_8 is deprecated after Java 7 introduced java.nio.charset.StandardCharsets

  • @see JRE character encoding names
  • @since 2.1
  • @deprecated Java 7 introduced {@link java.nio.charset.StandardCharsets}, which defines these constants as
  • {@link Charset} objects. Use {@link Charset#name()} to get the string values provided in this class.
  • This class will be removed in a future release.

Faster alternative in Oracle to SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sometable

The fastest way to get a count of a table is exactly what you did. There are no tricks you can do that Oracle doesn't already know about.

There are somethings you have not told us. Namely why do you think think this should be faster?

For example:

  1. Have you at least done an explain plan to see what Oracle is doing?
  2. How many rows are there in this table?
  3. What version of Oracle are you using? 8,9,10,11 ... 7?
  4. Have you ever run database statistics on this table?
  5. Is this a frequently updated table or batch loaded or just static data?
  6. Is this the only slow COUNT(*) you have?
  7. How long does SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Dual take?

I'll admit I wouldn't be happy with 41 seconds but really WHY do you think it should be faster? If you tell us the table has 18 billion rows and is running on the laptop you bought from a garage sale in 2001, 41 seconds is probably not that far outside "good as it will get" unless you get better hardware. However if you say you are on Oracle 9 and you ran statistics last summer well you'll probably get a different suggestions.

How do I import an existing Java keystore (.jks) file into a Java installation?

to load a KeyStore, you'll need to tell it the type of keystore it is (probably jceks), provide an inputstream, and a password. then, you can load it like so:

KeyStore ks  = KeyStore.getInstance(TYPE_OF_KEYSTORE);
ks.load(new FileInputStream(PATH_TO_KEYSTORE), PASSWORD);

this can throw a KeyStoreException, so you can surround in a try block if you like, or re-throw. Keep in mind a keystore can contain multiple keys, so you'll need to look up your key with an alias, here's an example with a symmetric key:

SecretKeyEntry entry = (KeyStore.SecretKeyEntry)ks.getEntry(SOME_ALIAS,new KeyStore.PasswordProtection(SOME_PASSWORD));
SecretKey someKey = entry.getSecretKey();

Last Run Date on a Stored Procedure in SQL Server

This works fine on 2005 (if the plan is in the cache)

       CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(qs.sql_handle) AS qt
WHERE  qt.dbid = DB_ID()
       AND objectid = OBJECT_ID('YourProc')

How to run Unix shell script from Java code?

I think you have answered your own question with

Runtime.getRuntime().exec(myShellScript);

As to whether it is good practice... what are you trying to do with a shell script that you cannot do with Java?

changing the language of error message in required field in html5 contact form

setCustomValidity's purpose is not just to set the validation message, it itself marks the field as invalid. It allows you to write custom validation checks which aren't natively supported.

You have two possible ways to set a custom message, an easy one that does not involve Javascript and one that does.

The easiest way is to simply use the title attribute on the input element - its content is displayed together with the standard browser message.

<input type="text" required title="Lütfen isaretli yerleri doldurunuz" />

enter image description here

If you want only your custom message to be displayed, a bit of Javascript is required. I have provided both examples for you in this fiddle.

Use Toast inside Fragment

When making a toast in fragment do as following:

Toast.makeText(getActivity(),"Message", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();

When class is extending fragment it is necessary to use getActivity() since fragment is a subclass of activity.

Class method decorator with self arguments?

Yes. Instead of passing in the instance attribute at class definition time, check it at runtime:

def check_authorization(f):
    def wrapper(*args):
        print args[0].url
        return f(*args)
    return wrapper

class Client(object):
    def __init__(self, url):
        self.url = url

    @check_authorization
    def get(self):
        print 'get'

>>> Client('http://www.google.com').get()
http://www.google.com
get

The decorator intercepts the method arguments; the first argument is the instance, so it reads the attribute off of that. You can pass in the attribute name as a string to the decorator and use getattr if you don't want to hardcode the attribute name:

def check_authorization(attribute):
    def _check_authorization(f):
        def wrapper(self, *args):
            print getattr(self, attribute)
            return f(self, *args)
        return wrapper
    return _check_authorization

How can I get the full/absolute URL (with domain) in Django?

You can either pass request reverse('view-name', request=request) or enclose reverse() with build_absolute_uri request.build_absolute_uri(reverse('view-name'))

WPF: Create a dialog / prompt

I just add a static method to call it like a MessageBox:

<Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    x:Class="utils.PromptDialog"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    WindowStartupLocation="CenterScreen"
    SizeToContent="WidthAndHeight"
    MinWidth="300"
    MinHeight="100"
    WindowStyle="SingleBorderWindow"
    ResizeMode="CanMinimize">
<StackPanel Margin="5">
    <TextBlock Name="txtQuestion" Margin="5"/>
    <TextBox Name="txtResponse" Margin="5"/>
    <PasswordBox Name="txtPasswordResponse" />
    <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="5" HorizontalAlignment="Right">
        <Button Content="_Ok" IsDefault="True" Margin="5" Name="btnOk" Click="btnOk_Click" />
        <Button Content="_Cancel" IsCancel="True" Margin="5" Name="btnCancel" Click="btnCancel_Click" />
    </StackPanel>
</StackPanel>
</Window>

And the code behind:

public partial class PromptDialog : Window
{
    public enum InputType
    {
        Text,
        Password
    }

    private InputType _inputType = InputType.Text;

    public PromptDialog(string question, string title, string defaultValue = "", InputType inputType = InputType.Text)
    {
        InitializeComponent();
        this.Loaded += new RoutedEventHandler(PromptDialog_Loaded);
        txtQuestion.Text = question;
        Title = title;
        txtResponse.Text = defaultValue;
        _inputType = inputType;
        if (_inputType == InputType.Password)
            txtResponse.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
        else
            txtPasswordResponse.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
    }

    void PromptDialog_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        if (_inputType == InputType.Password)
            txtPasswordResponse.Focus();
        else
            txtResponse.Focus();
    }

    public static string Prompt(string question, string title, string defaultValue = "", InputType inputType = InputType.Text)
    {
        PromptDialog inst = new PromptDialog(question, title, defaultValue, inputType);
        inst.ShowDialog();
        if (inst.DialogResult == true)
            return inst.ResponseText;
        return null;
    }

    public string ResponseText
    {
        get
        {
            if (_inputType == InputType.Password)
                return txtPasswordResponse.Password;
            else
                return txtResponse.Text;
        }
    }

    private void btnOk_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        DialogResult = true;
        Close();
    }

    private void btnCancel_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        Close();
    }
}

So you can call it like:

string repeatPassword = PromptDialog.Prompt("Repeat password", "Password confirm", inputType: PromptDialog.InputType.Password);

How to export collection to CSV in MongoDB?

mongoexport  --help
....
-f [ --fields ] arg     comma separated list of field names e.g. -f name,age
--fieldFile arg file with fields names - 1 per line

You have to manually specify it and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. MongoDB is schemaless; CSV, on the other hand, has a fixed layout for columns. Without knowing what fields are used in different documents it's impossible to output the CSV dump.

If you have a fixed schema perhaps you could retrieve one document, harvest the field names from it with a script and pass it to mongoexport.

Use LINQ to get items in one List<>, that are not in another List<>

If you override the equality of People then you can also use:

peopleList2.Except(peopleList1)

Except should be significantly faster than the Where(...Any) variant since it can put the second list into a hashtable. Where(...Any) has a runtime of O(peopleList1.Count * peopleList2.Count) whereas variants based on HashSet<T> (almost) have a runtime of O(peopleList1.Count + peopleList2.Count).

Except implicitly removes duplicates. That shouldn't affect your case, but might be an issue for similar cases.

Or if you want fast code but don't want to override the equality:

var excludedIDs = new HashSet<int>(peopleList1.Select(p => p.ID));
var result = peopleList2.Where(p => !excludedIDs.Contains(p.ID));

This variant does not remove duplicates.

How to get access to job parameters from ItemReader, in Spring Batch?

Pretty late, but you can also do this by annotating a @BeforeStep method:

@BeforeStep
    public void beforeStep(final StepExecution stepExecution) {
        JobParameters parameters = stepExecution.getJobExecution().getJobParameters();
        //use your parameters
}

"Active Directory Users and Computers" MMC snap-in for Windows 7?

Per Noalt's answer is correct. However, if you want the snap-in mentioned in the title (Users and Computers), you'll also have to run these commands at a command-line afterwards, as an Administrator:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles-AD-DS
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:RemoteServerAdministrationTools-Roles-AD-DS-SnapIns

Note - I had to run these in order for AD Users and Computers to show up, as they were disabled on my computer after the install. This might not be the case for all users.

how to redirect to external url from c# controller

If you are using MVC then it would be more appropriate to use RedirectResult instead of using Response.Redirect.

public ActionResult Index() {
        return new RedirectResult("http://www.website.com");
    }

The ALTER TABLE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint

This happens to me, since I am designing my database, I notice that I change my seed on my main table, now the relational table has no foreign key on the main table.

So I need to truncate both tables, and it now works!

Problems with Android Fragment back stack

Right!!! after much hair pulling I've finally worked out how to make this work properly.

It seems as though fragment [3] is not removed from the view when back is pressed so you have to do it manually!

First of all, dont use replace() but instead use remove and add separately. It seems as though replace() doesnt work properly.

The next part to this is overriding the onKeyDown method and remove the current fragment every time the back button is pressed.

@Override
public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event)
{
    if (keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK)
    {
        if (getSupportFragmentManager().getBackStackEntryCount() == 0)
        {
            this.finish();
            return false;
        }
        else
        {
            getSupportFragmentManager().popBackStack();
            removeCurrentFragment();

            return false;
        }

    }

    return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event);
}

public void removeCurrentFragment()
{
    FragmentTransaction transaction = getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction();

    Fragment currentFrag =  getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.detailFragment);

    String fragName = "NONE";

    if (currentFrag!=null)
        fragName = currentFrag.getClass().getSimpleName();

    if (currentFrag != null)
        transaction.remove(currentFrag);

    transaction.commit();

}

Hope this helps!

Adjust UILabel height depending on the text

sizeWithFont constrainedToSize:lineBreakMode: is the method to use. An example of how to use it is below:

//Calculate the expected size based on the font and linebreak mode of your label
// FLT_MAX here simply means no constraint in height
CGSize maximumLabelSize = CGSizeMake(296, FLT_MAX);

CGSize expectedLabelSize = [yourString sizeWithFont:yourLabel.font constrainedToSize:maximumLabelSize lineBreakMode:yourLabel.lineBreakMode];

//adjust the label the the new height.
CGRect newFrame = yourLabel.frame;
newFrame.size.height = expectedLabelSize.height;
yourLabel.frame = newFrame;

TCP: can two different sockets share a port?

A server socket listens on a single port. All established client connections on that server are associated with that same listening port on the server side of the connection. An established connection is uniquely identified by the combination of client-side and server-side IP/Port pairs. Multiple connections on the same server can share the same server-side IP/Port pair as long as they are associated with different client-side IP/Port pairs, and the server would be able to handle as many clients as available system resources allow it to.

On the client-side, it is common practice for new outbound connections to use a random client-side port, in which case it is possible to run out of available ports if you make a lot of connections in a short amount of time.

TypeError: 'in <string>' requires string as left operand, not int

You simply need to make cab a string:

cab = '6176'

As the error message states, you cannot do <int> in <string>:

>>> 1 in '123'
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: 'in <string>' requires string as left operand, not int
>>>

because integers and strings are two totally different things and Python does not embrace implicit type conversion ("Explicit is better than implicit.").

In fact, Python only allows you to use the in operator with a right operand of type string if the left operand is also of type string:

>>> '1' in '123'  # Works!
True
>>>
>>> [] in '123'
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: 'in <string>' requires string as left operand, not list
>>>
>>> 1.0 in '123'

>>>
>>> {} in '123'

How to retrieve element value of XML using Java?

If your XML is a String, Then you can do the following:

String xml = ""; //Populated XML String....

DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
Document document = builder.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)));
Element rootElement = document.getDocumentElement();

If your XML is in a file, then Document document will be instantiated like this:

Document document = builder.parse(new File("file.xml"));

The document.getDocumentElement() returns you the node that is the document element of the document (in your case <config>).

Once you have a rootElement, you can access the element's attribute (by calling rootElement.getAttribute() method), etc. For more methods on java's org.w3c.dom.Element

More info on java DocumentBuilder & DocumentBuilderFactory. Bear in mind, the example provided creates a XML DOM tree so if you have a huge XML data, the tree can be huge.

Update Here's an example to get "value" of element <requestqueue>

protected String getString(String tagName, Element element) {
        NodeList list = element.getElementsByTagName(tagName);
        if (list != null && list.getLength() > 0) {
            NodeList subList = list.item(0).getChildNodes();

            if (subList != null && subList.getLength() > 0) {
                return subList.item(0).getNodeValue();
            }
        }

        return null;
    }

You can effectively call it as,

String requestQueueName = getString("requestqueue", element);

DateTime2 vs DateTime in SQL Server

Select ValidUntil + 1
from Documents

The above SQL won't work with a DateTime2 field. It returns and error "Operand type clash: datetime2 is incompatible with int"

Adding 1 to get the next day is something developers have been doing with dates for years. Now Microsoft have a super new datetime2 field that cannot handle this simple functionality.

"Let's use this new type that is worse than the old one", I don't think so!

Intellisense

"Register" an .exe so you can run it from any command line in Windows

In order to make it work

You need to modify the value of the environment variable with the name key Path, you can add as many paths as you want separating them with ;. The paths you give to it can't include the name of the executable file.

If you add a path to the variable Path all the excecutable files inside it can be called from cmd or porweshell by writing their name without .exe and these names are not case sensitive.

Here is how to create a system environment variable from a python script:

It is important to run it with administrator privileges in order to make it work. To better understand the code, just read the comments on it.

Tested on Windows 10

import winreg

# Create environment variable for call the program from shell, only works with compiled version
def environment_var(AppPath):

    # Point to the registry key of the system environment variables
    key = winreg.CreateKey(winreg.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, r'System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment')

    def add_var(path):
        # Add the variable
        winreg.SetValueEx(key, 'Path', 0, winreg.REG_SZ, path)
        winreg.CloseKey(key)

    try:
        # Try to get the value of the Path variable
        allPaths = winreg.QueryValueEx(key, 'Path')[0]
    except Exception:
        # Create the Path variable if it doesn't exist
        add_var(path=AppPath)
        return

    # Get all the values of the existing paths
    Path=allPaths.split(';')

    # If the Path is empty, add the application path
    if Path == ['']:
        add_var(path=AppPath)
        return

    # Check if the application path is in the Path variable
    if AppPath not in Path:
        # Add the application path to the Path environment variable and add keep the others existing paths
        add_var(path=AppPath+';'+allPaths)

# Only run this if the module is not imported by another
if __name__ == "__main__":
    # Run the function
    environment_var(AppPath=".")

Semaphore vs. Monitors - what's the difference?

One Line Answer:

Monitor: controls only ONE thread at a time can execute in the monitor. (need to acquire lock to execute the single thread)

Semaphore: a lock that protects a shared resource. (need to acquire the lock to access resource)

Import PEM into Java Key Store

Although this question is pretty old and it has already a-lot answers, I think it is worth to provide an alternative. Using native java classes makes it very verbose to just use pem files and almost forces you wanting to convert the pem files into p12 or jks files as using p12 or jks files are much easier. I want to give anyone who wants an alternative for the already provided answers.

GitHub - SSLContext Kickstart

var keyManager = PemUtils.loadIdentityMaterial("certificate-chain.pem", "private-key.pem");
var trustManager = PemUtils.loadTrustMaterial("some-trusted-certificate.pem");

var sslFactory = SSLFactory.builder()
          .withIdentityMaterial(keyManager)
          .withTrustMaterial(trustManager)
          .build();

var sslContext = sslFactory.getSslContext();

How do I combine two dataframes?

You can also use pd.concat, which is particularly helpful when you are joining more than two dataframes:

bigdata = pd.concat([data1, data2], ignore_index=True, sort=False)

Convert interface{} to int

I am assuming: If you sent the JSON value through browser then any number you sent that will be the type float64 so you cant get the value directly int in golang.

So do the conversion like:

//As that says:
fmt.Fprintf(w, "Type = %v", val) // <--- Type = float64

var iAreaId int = int(val.(float64))

This way you can get exact value what you wanted.

Add Insecure Registry to Docker

Anyone looking to add insecure registry on amazon linux 2: You will have to change the setting under /etc/sysconfig/docker and then restart docker daemon: here's how my /etc/sysconfig/docker looks like

# The max number of open files for the daemon itself, and all
# running containers. The default value of 1048576 mirrors the value
# used by the systemd service unit.
DAEMON_MAXFILES=1048576

# Additional startup options for the Docker daemon, for example:
# OPTIONS="--ip-forward=true --iptables=true"
# By default we limit the number of open files per container
OPTIONS="--default-ulimit nofile=1024:4096 --insecure-registry yourinsecureregistryhostname:port"

# How many seconds the sysvinit script waits for the pidfile to appear
# when starting the daemon.
DAEMON_PIDFILE_TIMEOUT=10

Add CSS to iFrame

Based on solution You've already found How to apply CSS to iframe?:

var cssLink = document.createElement("link")
cssLink.href = "file://path/to/style.css";
cssLink .rel = "stylesheet";
cssLink .type = "text/css";
frames['iframe'].document.body.appendChild(cssLink);

or more jqueryish (from Append a stylesheet to an iframe with jQuery):

var $head = $("iframe").contents().find("head");
$head.append($("<link/>",

How to get the connection String from a database

If you have installed and setup MS SQL Server and Management Studio, go to Visual Studio (Visual Studio not SQL Server Management Studio).

1] In Visual Studio go to Tools -> Connect to Database.

2] Under Server Name Select your Database Server Name (Let the list Populate if its taking time).

3] Under Connect to a Database, Select Select or enter a database name.

4] Select your Database from Dropdown.

5] After selecting Database try Test Connection.

6] If Test Connection Succeeds, Click Ok.

7] In Visual Studio go to View -> Server Explorer.

8] In Server Explorer window, Under Data Connections Select your Database. Right Click your Database -> Click Properties.

9] In Properties window you will see your Connection String.

SessionTimeout: web.xml vs session.maxInactiveInterval()

Now, i'm being told that this will terminate the session (or is it all sessions?) in the 15th minute of use, regardless their activity.

This is wrong. It will just kill the session when the associated client (webbrowser) has not accessed the website for more than 15 minutes. The activity certainly counts, exactly as you initially expected, seeing your attempt to solve this.

The HttpSession#setMaxInactiveInterval() doesn't change much here by the way. It does exactly the same as <session-timeout> in web.xml, with the only difference that you can change/set it programmatically during runtime. The change by the way only affects the current session instance, not globally (else it would have been a static method).

To play around and experience this yourself, try to set <session-timeout> to 1 minute and create a HttpSessionListener like follows:

@WebListener
public class HttpSessionChecker implements HttpSessionListener {

    public void sessionCreated(HttpSessionEvent event) {
        System.out.printf("Session ID %s created at %s%n", event.getSession().getId(), new Date());
    }

    public void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent event) {
        System.out.printf("Session ID %s destroyed at %s%n", event.getSession().getId(), new Date());
    }

}

(if you're not on Servlet 3.0 yet and thus can't use @WebListener, then register in web.xml as follows):

<listener>
    <listener-class>com.example.HttpSessionChecker</listener-class>
</listener>

Note that the servletcontainer won't immediately destroy sessions after exactly the timeout value. It's a background job which runs at certain intervals (e.g. 5~15 minutes depending on load and the servletcontainer make/type). So don't be surprised when you don't see destroyed line in the console immediately after exactly one minute of inactivity. However, when you fire a HTTP request on a timed-out-but-not-destroyed-yet session, it will be destroyed immediately.

How to downgrade php from 7.1.1 to 5.6 in xampp 7.1.1?

I think the most safest downgrade path from PHP7 to PHP5 in Xampp is:

  1. Download a self-packaged version of Xampp with PHP5 from here (as of today this is xampp-win32-5.6.37-0-VC11.zip).

  2. Rename the php folder to php7 in Xampp.

  3. Now copy the php folder from xampp-win32-5.6.37-0-VC11.zip into your Xampp install folder.

  4. Make a backup from .\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-xampp.conf file.

  5. Replace this file from xampp-win32-5.6.37-0-VC11.zip as well.

  6. This way the config files (including php.ini) has settings from the Xampp team.

  • Before any changes, to verify changed Apache configs, you can compare both Xampp release folder at .\xampp\apache\conf with tools like Meld.

  • I should note that please download PHP 5 and 7 Xampp packages released at the same time.

Notify me if I miss something.

How to resolve "Waiting for Debugger" message?

Running Android Studio, I ran into this problem and after trying various remedies restarting Android Studio is what appeared to fix the problem.

Download File Using jQuery

I suggest you use the mousedown event, which is called BEFORE the click event. That way, the browser handles the click event naturally, which avoids any code weirdness:

(function ($) {

    // with this solution, the browser handles the download link naturally (tested in chrome and firefox)
    $(document).ready(function () {

        var url = '/private/downloads/myfile123.pdf';
        $("a").on('mousedown', function () {
            $(this).attr("href", url);
        });

    });
})(jQuery);

Visual Studio: ContextSwitchDeadlock

As Pedro said, you have an issue with the debugger preventing the message pump if you are stepping through code.

But if you are performing a long running operation on the UI thread, then call Application.DoEvents() which explicitly pumps the message queue and then returns control to your current method.

However if you are doing this I would recommend at looking at your design so that you can perform processing off the UI thread so that your UI remains nice and snappy.

How to remove all CSS classes using jQuery/JavaScript?

I like using native js do this, belive it or not!

1.

// remove all items all class
const items = document.querySelectorAll('item');
for (let i = 0; i < items.length; i++) {
    items[i].className = '';
}

2.

// only remove all class of first item
const item1 = document.querySelector('item');
item1.className = '';

jQuery ways

  1. $("#item").removeClass();

  2. $("#item").removeClass("class1 ... classn");

Is there a rule-of-thumb for how to divide a dataset into training and validation sets?

There are two competing concerns: with less training data, your parameter estimates have greater variance. With less testing data, your performance statistic will have greater variance. Broadly speaking you should be concerned with dividing data such that neither variance is too high, which is more to do with the absolute number of instances in each category rather than the percentage.

If you have a total of 100 instances, you're probably stuck with cross validation as no single split is going to give you satisfactory variance in your estimates. If you have 100,000 instances, it doesn't really matter whether you choose an 80:20 split or a 90:10 split (indeed you may choose to use less training data if your method is particularly computationally intensive).

Assuming you have enough data to do proper held-out test data (rather than cross-validation), the following is an instructive way to get a handle on variances:

  1. Split your data into training and testing (80/20 is indeed a good starting point)
  2. Split the training data into training and validation (again, 80/20 is a fair split).
  3. Subsample random selections of your training data, train the classifier with this, and record the performance on the validation set
  4. Try a series of runs with different amounts of training data: randomly sample 20% of it, say, 10 times and observe performance on the validation data, then do the same with 40%, 60%, 80%. You should see both greater performance with more data, but also lower variance across the different random samples
  5. To get a handle on variance due to the size of test data, perform the same procedure in reverse. Train on all of your training data, then randomly sample a percentage of your validation data a number of times, and observe performance. You should now find that the mean performance on small samples of your validation data is roughly the same as the performance on all the validation data, but the variance is much higher with smaller numbers of test samples

How to modify existing XML file with XmlDocument and XmlNode in C#

You need to do something like this:

// instantiate XmlDocument and load XML from file
XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
doc.Load(@"D:\test.xml");

// get a list of nodes - in this case, I'm selecting all <AID> nodes under
// the <GroupAIDs> node - change to suit your needs
XmlNodeList aNodes = doc.SelectNodes("/Equipment/DataCollections/GroupAIDs/AID");

// loop through all AID nodes
foreach (XmlNode aNode in aNodes)
{
   // grab the "id" attribute
   XmlAttribute idAttribute = aNode.Attributes["id"];

   // check if that attribute even exists...
   if (idAttribute != null)
   {
      // if yes - read its current value
      string currentValue = idAttribute.Value;

      // here, you can now decide what to do - for demo purposes,
      // I just set the ID value to a fixed value if it was empty before
      if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(currentValue))
      {
         idAttribute.Value = "515";
      }
   }
}

// save the XmlDocument back to disk
doc.Save(@"D:\test2.xml");

Can you get a Windows (AD) username in PHP?

If you're using Apache on Windows, you can install the mod_auth_sspi from

https://sourceforge.net/projects/mod-auth-sspi/

Instructions are in the INSTALL file, and there is a whoami.php example. (It's just a case of copying the mod_auth_sspi.so file into a folder and adding a line into httpd.conf.)

Once it's installed and the necessary settings are made in httpd.conf to protect the directories you wish, PHP will populate the $_SERVER['REMOTE_USER'] with the user and domain ('USER\DOMAIN') of the authenticated user in IE -- or prompt and authenticate in Firefox before passing it in.

Info is session-based, so single(ish) signon is possible even in Firefox...

What is the difference between HTTP status code 200 (cache) vs status code 304?

For your last question, why ? I'll try to explain with what I know

A brief explanation of those three status codes in layman's terms.

  • 200 - success (browser requests and get file from server)

If caching is enabled in the server

  • 200 (from memory cache) - file found in browser, so browser is not going request from server
  • 304 - browser request a file but it is rejected by server

For some files browser is deciding to request from server and for some it's deciding to read from stored (cached) files. Why is this ? Every files has an expiry date, so

If a file is not expired then the browser will use from cache (200 cache).

If file is expired, browser requests server for a file. Server check file in both places (browser and server). If same file found, server refuses the request. As per protocol browser uses existing file.

look at this nginx configuration

location / {
    add_header Cache-Control must-revalidate;
    expires     60;
    etag on;

    ...
}

Here the expiry is set to 60 seconds, so all static files are cached for 60 seconds. So if u request a file again within 60 seconds browser will read from memory (200 memory). If u request after 60 seconds browser will request server (304).

I assumed that the file is not changed after 60 seconds, in that case you would get 200 (ie, updated file will be fetched from server).

So, if the servers are configured with different expiring and caching headers (policies), the status may differ.

In your case you are using cdn, the main purpose of cdn is high availability and fast delivery. Therefore they use multiple servers. Even though it seems like files are in same directory, cdn might use multiple servers to provide u content, if those servers have different configurations. Then these status can change. Hope it helps.

How to find which version of Oracle is installed on a Linux server (In terminal)

As the user running the Oracle Database one can also try $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory which shows the exact version and patches installed.

For example this is a quick oneliner which should only return the version number:

$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory | awk '/^Oracle Database/ {print $NF}'

AngularJS ui-router login authentication

The solutions posted so far are needlessly complicated, in my opinion. There's a simpler way. The documentation of ui-router says listen to $locationChangeSuccess and use $urlRouter.sync() to check a state transition, halt it, or resume it. But even that actually doesn't work.

However, here are two simple alternatives. Pick one:

Solution 1: listening on $locationChangeSuccess

You can listen to $locationChangeSuccess and you can perform some logic, even asynchronous logic there. Based on that logic, you can let the function return undefined, which will cause the state transition to continue as normal, or you can do $state.go('logInPage'), if the user needs to be authenticated. Here's an example:

angular.module('App', ['ui.router'])

// In the run phase of your Angular application
.run(function($rootScope, user, $state) {

  // Listen to '$locationChangeSuccess', not '$stateChangeStart'
  $rootScope.$on('$locationChangeSuccess', function() {
    user
      .logIn()
      .catch(function() {
        // log-in promise failed. Redirect to log-in page.
        $state.go('logInPage')
      })
  })
})

Keep in mind that this doesn't actually prevent the target state from loading, but it does redirect to the log-in page if the user is unauthorized. That's okay since real protection is on the server, anyway.

Solution 2: using state resolve

In this solution, you use ui-router resolve feature.

You basically reject the promise in resolve if the user is not authenticated and then redirect them to the log-in page.

Here's how it goes:

angular.module('App', ['ui.router'])

.config(
  function($stateProvider) {
    $stateProvider
      .state('logInPage', {
        url: '/logInPage',
        templateUrl: 'sections/logInPage.html',
        controller: 'logInPageCtrl',
      })
      .state('myProtectedContent', {
        url: '/myProtectedContent',
        templateUrl: 'sections/myProtectedContent.html',
        controller: 'myProtectedContentCtrl',
        resolve: { authenticate: authenticate }
      })
      .state('alsoProtectedContent', {
        url: '/alsoProtectedContent',
        templateUrl: 'sections/alsoProtectedContent.html',
        controller: 'alsoProtectedContentCtrl',
        resolve: { authenticate: authenticate }
      })

    function authenticate($q, user, $state, $timeout) {
      if (user.isAuthenticated()) {
        // Resolve the promise successfully
        return $q.when()
      } else {
        // The next bit of code is asynchronously tricky.

        $timeout(function() {
          // This code runs after the authentication promise has been rejected.
          // Go to the log-in page
          $state.go('logInPage')
        })

        // Reject the authentication promise to prevent the state from loading
        return $q.reject()
      }
    }
  }
)

Unlike the first solution, this solution actually prevents the target state from loading.

What is inf and nan?

I use inf/-inf as initial values to find minimum/maximum value of a measurement. Lets say that you measure temperature with a sensor and you want to keep track of minimum/maximum temperature. The sensor might provide a valid temperature or might be broken. Pseudocode:

# initial value of the temperature
t = float('nan')
# initial value of minimum temperature, so any measured temp. will be smaller
t_min = float('inf')
# initial value of maximum temperature, so any measured temp. will be bigger
t_max = float('-inf')
while True:
    # measure temperature, if sensor is broken t is not changed
    t = measure()
    # find new minimum temperature
    t_min = min(t_min, t)
    # find new maximum temperature
    t_max = max(t_max, t)

The above code works because inf/-inf/nan are valid for min/max operation, so there is no need to deal with exceptions.

Get the last inserted row ID (with SQL statement)

You can use:

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('tablename')

to access the latest identity for a perticular table.

e.g. Considering following code:

INSERT INTO dbo.MyTable(columns....) VALUES(..........)

INSERT INTO dbo.YourTable(columns....) VALUES(..........)

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('MyTable')

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('YourTable')

This would yield to correct value for corresponding tables.

It returns the last IDENTITY value produced in a table, regardless of the connection that created the value, and regardless of the scope of the statement that produced the value.

IDENT_CURRENT is not limited by scope and session; it is limited to a specified table. IDENT_CURRENT returns the identity value generated for a specific table in any session and any scope.

How do I get total physical memory size using PowerShell without WMI?

For those coming here from a later day and age and one a working solution:

(Get-WmiObject -class "cim_physicalmemory" | Measure-Object -Property Capacity -Sum).Sum

this will give the total sum of bytes.

$bytes = (Get-WmiObject -class "cim_physicalmemory" | Measure-Object -Property Capacity -Sum).Sum

$kb = $bytes / 1024
$mb = $bytes / 1024 / 1024
$gb = $bytes / 1024 / 1024 / 1024

I tested this up to windows server 2008 (winver 6.0) even there this command seems to work

    System.out.println(text);

    //for int

    int num= scan.nextInt();

    System.out.println(num);
    }

Visually managing MongoDB documents and collections

The real answer is ... No.

So far as I have found there is no reasonable or publicly available Windows MonogoDB client which is really very sad since MongoDB is pretty sweet.

I've thought about throwing together a simple app with WPF on Codeplex ... but I haven't been super motivated.

What would features would you be interested in having? Maybe you can inspire me or others?

For example, do you just want to view DBs / collections & perhaps simple edits (so you don't have to use the shell) or do you require something more complex?

document.all vs. document.getElementById

document.all works in Chrome now (not sure when since), but I've been missing it the last 20 years.... Simply a shorter method name than the clunky document.getElementById. Not sure if it works in Firefox, those guys never had any desire to be compatible with the existing web, always creating new standards instead of embracing the existing web.

Full Screen Theme for AppCompat

Issues arise among before and after versions of Android 4.0 (API level 14).

from here I created my own solution.

@SuppressLint("NewApi")
@Override
protected void onResume()
{
    super.onResume();

    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < 16)
    {
        // Hide the status bar
        getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
        // Hide the action bar
        getSupportActionBar().hide();
    }
    else
    {
        // Hide the status bar
        getWindow().getDecorView().setSystemUiVisibility(View.SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
        / Hide the action bar
        getActionBar().hide();
    }
}

I write this code in onResume() method because if you exit from your app and then you reopen it, the action bar remains active! (and so this fix the problem)

I hope it was helpful ;)

How do I debug error ECONNRESET in Node.js?

Passing data between view controllers

I like the idea of model objects and mock objects based on NSProxy to commit or discard data if what the user selects can be cancelled.

It's easy to pass data around since it's a single object or couple of objects and if you have, let's say, a UINavigationController controller, you can keep the reference to the model inside and all pushed view controllers can access it directly from the navigation controller.

Or run this command from the (*nix) shell of your choice:

git config --global alias.ignore '!sh -c "echo $1 >> .gitignore" -'

You can likewise create a git exclude command by replacing ignore with exclude and .gitignore with .git/info/exclude in the above.

(If you don't already understand the difference between these two files having read the answers here, see this question.)

Elasticsearch : Root mapping definition has unsupported parameters index : not_analyzed

You're almost here, you're just missing a few things:

PUT /test
{
  "mappings": {
    "type_name": {                <--- add the type name
      "properties": { <--- enclose all field definitions in "properties"
        "field1": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field2": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field3": {
          "type": "string",
          "index": "not_analyzed"
        },
        "field4,": {
          "type": "string",
          "analyzer": "autocomplete",

        }
      }
    }
  },
  "settings": {
     ...
  }
}

UPDATE

If your index already exists, you can also modify your mappings like this:

PUT test/_mapping/type_name
{
    "properties": { <--- enclose all field definitions in "properties"
        "field1": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field2": {
          "type": "integer"
        },
        "field3": {
          "type": "string",
          "index": "not_analyzed"
        },
        "field4,": {
          "type": "string",
          "analyzer": "autocomplete",
          "search_analyzer": "standard"
        }
    }
}

UPDATE:

As of ES 7, mapping types have been removed. You can read more details here

how to access iFrame parent page using jquery?

Might be a little late to the game here, but I just discovered this fantastic jQuery plugin https://github.com/mkdynamic/jquery-popupwindow. It basically uses an onUnload callback event, so it basically listens out for the closing of the child window, and will perform any necessary stuff at that point. SO there's really no need to write any JS in the child window to pass back to the parent.

Can you create nested WITH clauses for Common Table Expressions?

I was trying to measure the time between events with the exception of what one entry that has multiple processes between the start and end. I needed this in the context of other single line processes.

I used a select with an inner join as my select statement within the Nth cte. The second cte I needed to extract the start date on X and end date on Y and used 1 as an id value to left join to put them on a single line.

Works for me, hope this helps.

How to convert milliseconds to seconds with precision

Surely you just need:

double seconds = milliseconds / 1000.0;

There's no need to manually do the two parts separately - you just need floating point arithmetic, which the use of 1000.0 (as a double literal) forces. (I'm assuming your milliseconds value is an integer of some form.)

Note that as usual with double, you may not be able to represent the result exactly. Consider using BigDecimal if you want to represent 100ms as 0.1 seconds exactly. (Given that it's a physical quantity, and the 100ms wouldn't be exact in the first place, a double is probably appropriate, but...)

Root user/sudo equivalent in Cygwin?

Based on @mat-khor's answer, I took the syswin su.exe, saved it as manufacture-syswin-su.exe, and wrote this wrapper script. It handles redirection of the command's stdout and stderr, so it can be used in a pipe, etc. Also, the script exits with the status of the given command.

Limitations:

  • The syswin-su options are currently hardcoded to use the current user. Prepending env USERNAME=... to the script invocation overrides it. If other options were needed, the script would have to distinguish between syswin-su and command arguments, e.g. splitting at the first --.
  • If the UAC prompt is cancelled or declined, the script hangs.

SCRIPT

Why would a JavaScript variable start with a dollar sign?

Stevo is right, the meaning and usage of the dollar script sign (in Javascript and the jQuery platform, but not in PHP) is completely semantic. $ is a character that can be used as part of an identifier name. In addition, the dollar sign is perhaps not the most "weird" thing you can encounter in Javascript. Here are some examples of valid identifier names:

var _       = function() { alert("hello from _"); }
var \u0024  = function() { alert("hello from $ defined as u0024"); }
var Ø       = function() { alert("hello from Ø"); }
var $$$$$   = function() { alert("hello from $$$$$"); }

All of the examples above will work.

Try them.

How to preserve aspect ratio when scaling image using one (CSS) dimension in IE6?

I'm glad that worked out, so I guess you had to explicitly set 'auto' on IE6 in order for it to mimic other browsers!

I actually recently found another technique for scaling images, again designed for backgrounds. This technique has some interesting features:

  1. The image aspect ratio is preserved
  2. The image's original size is maintained (that is, it can never shrink only grow)

The markup relies on a wrapper element:

<div id="wrap"><img src="test.png" /></div>

Given the above markup you then use these rules:

#wrap {
  height: 100px;
  width: 100px;
}
#wrap img {
  min-height: 100%;
  min-width: 100%;
}

If you then control the size of wrapper you get the interesting scale effects that I list above.

To be explicit, consider the following base state: A container that is 100x100 and an image that is 10x10. The result is a scaled image of 100x100.

  1. Starting at the base state, the container resized to 20x100, the image stays resized at 100x100.
  2. Starting at the base state, the image is changed to 10x20, the image resizes to 100x200.

So, in other words, the image is always at least as big as the container, but will scale beyond it to maintain it's aspect ratio.

This probably isn't useful for your site, and it doesn't work in IE6. But, it is useful to get a scaled background for your view port or container.

Activity has leaked window that was originally added

This problem arises when trying to show a Dialog after you've exited an Activity.

I just solved this problem just by writing down the following code:

@Override
public void onDestroy(){
    super.onDestroy();
    if ( progressDialog!=null && progressDialog.isShowing() ){
        progressDialog.cancel();
    }
}

Basically, from which class you started progressDialog, override onDestroy method and do this way. It solved "Activity has leaked window" problem.

How to kill a child process by the parent process?

Send a SIGTERM or a SIGKILL to it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIGKILL

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIGTERM

SIGTERM is polite and lets the process clean up before it goes, whereas, SIGKILL is for when it won't listen >:)

Example from the shell (man page: http://unixhelp.ed.ac.uk/CGI/man-cgi?kill )

kill -9 pid

In C, you can do the same thing using the kill syscall:

kill(pid, SIGKILL);

See the following man page: http://linux.die.net/man/2/kill

Checking for a null int value from a Java ResultSet

Just check if the field is null or not using ResultSet#getObject(). Substitute -1 with whatever null-case value you want.

int foo = resultSet.getObject("foo") != null ? resultSet.getInt("foo") : -1;

Or, if you can guarantee that you use the right DB column type so that ResultSet#getObject() really returns an Integer (and thus not Long, Short or Byte), then you can also just typecast it to an Integer.

Integer foo = (Integer) resultSet.getObject("foo");

How to make the python interpreter correctly handle non-ASCII characters in string operations?

Python 2 uses ascii as the default encoding for source files, which means you must specify another encoding at the top of the file to use non-ascii unicode characters in literals. Python 3 uses utf-8 as the default encoding for source files, so this is less of an issue.

See: http://docs.python.org/tutorial/interpreter.html#source-code-encoding

To enable utf-8 source encoding, this would go in one of the top two lines:

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

The above is in the docs, but this also works:

# coding: utf-8

Additional considerations:

  • The source file must be saved using the correct encoding in your text editor as well.

  • In Python 2, the unicode literal must have a u before it, as in s.replace(u"Â ", u"") But in Python 3, just use quotes. In Python 2, you can from __future__ import unicode_literals to obtain the Python 3 behavior, but be aware this affects the entire current module.

  • s.replace(u"Â ", u"") will also fail if s is not a unicode string.

  • string.replace returns a new string and does not edit in place, so make sure you're using the return value as well

How to call a function from a string stored in a variable?

For the sake of completeness, you can also use eval():

$functionName = "foo()";
eval($functionName);

However, call_user_func() is the proper way.

I needed to get both USB and TCPIP working for ADB (don't ask), so I did the following (using directions others have posted from xda-developers)

Using adb shell:

setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555

#Run the adbd daemon *again* instead of doing stop/start, so there

Xcode 4 - "Valid signing identity not found" error on provisioning profiles on a new Macintosh install

I faced this problem this morning when I just opened an old app with a different certificate and allowed its access to the keychain. My other app that was working pretty well, stopped working with this error. I've been pulling out my hair till now, when I simply did this:

Xcode Menu > Preferences > Accounts > THE_APPLE_ID_THAT_YOU_ARE_USING > View Details

In the new window, at the bottom left of the Signing identities press the + button and select iOS Development. It'll re-add the identity, and after that my problem is fixed now and the app is running on the device again.

C#: How would I get the current time into a string?

You can use format strings as well.

string time = DateTime.Now.ToString("hh:mm:ss"); // includes leading zeros
string date = DateTime.Now.ToString("dd/MM/yy"); // includes leading zeros

or some shortcuts if the format works for you

string time = DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString();
string date = DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString();

Either should work.

C# Get/Set Syntax Usage

I do not understand what this is unclear

Properties are members that provide a flexible mechanism to read, write, or compute the values of private fields. Properties can be used as though they are public data members, but they are actually special methods called accessors. This enables data to be accessed easily while still providing the safety and flexibility of methods.

In this example, the class TimePeriod stores a time period. Internally the class stores the time in seconds, but a property called Hours is provided that allows a client to specify a time in hours. The accessors for the Hours property perform the conversion between hours and seconds.

Example

class TimePeriod
{
    private double seconds;

    public double Hours
    {
        get { return seconds / 3600; }
        set { seconds = value * 3600; }
    }
}

class Program
{
    static void Main()
    {
        TimePeriod t = new TimePeriod();

        // Assigning the Hours property causes the 'set' accessor to be called.
        t.Hours = 24;

        // Evaluating the Hours property causes the 'get' accessor to be called.
        System.Console.WriteLine("Time in hours: " + t.Hours);
    }
}

Properties Overview

Properties enable a class to expose a public way of getting and setting values, while hiding implementation or verification code.

A get property accessor is used to return the property value, and a set accessor is used to assign a new value. These accessors can have different access levels.

The value keyword is used to define the value being assigned by the set indexer.

Properties that do not implement a set method are read only.

How to change options of <select> with jQuery?

if we update <select> constantly and we need to save previous value :

var newOptions = {
    'Option 1':'value-1',
    'Option 2':'value-2'
};

var $el = $('#select');
var prevValue = $el.val();
$el.empty();
$.each(newOptions, function(key, value) {
   $el.append($('<option></option>').attr('value', value).text(key));
   if (value === prevValue){
       $el.val(value);
   }
});
$el.trigger('change');

how to get the selected index of a drop down

You can also use :checked for <select> elements

e.g.,

document.querySelector('select option:checked')
document.querySelector('select option:checked').getAttribute('value')

You don't even have to get the index and then reference the element by its sibling index.

Can I install/update WordPress plugins without providing FTP access?

I also recommend the SSH SFTP Updater Support plugin. Just solved all my problems too...especially in regards to getting plugins to delete through the admin. Just install it in the usual way, and the next time you're prompted by WordPress for FTP details, there'll be extra fields for you to copy/paste your private SSH key or upload your PEM file.

Only problem I have is in getting it to remember the key (tried both methods). Don't like the idea of having to find and enter it every time I need to delete a plugin. But at least it's a solid fix for now.

Empty ArrayList equals null

First of all, You can verify this on your own by writing a simple TestCase!

empty Arraylist (with nulls as its items)

Second, If ArrayList is EMPTY that means it is really empty, it cannot have NULL or NON-NULL things as element.

Third,

 List list  = new ArrayList();
    list.add(null);
    System.out.println(list == null)

would print false.

JQuery: if div is visible

You can use .is(':visible')

Selects all elements that are visible.

For example:

if($('#selectDiv').is(':visible')){

Also, you can get the div which is visible by:

$('div:visible').callYourFunction();

Live example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log($('#selectDiv').is(':visible'));_x000D_
console.log($('#visibleDiv').is(':visible'));
_x000D_
#selectDiv {_x000D_
  display: none;  _x000D_
}
_x000D_
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_
<div id="selectDiv"></div>_x000D_
<div id="visibleDiv"></div>

Placing border inside of div and not on its edge

Use pseudo element:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.button {_x000D_
    background: #333;_x000D_
    color: #fff;_x000D_
    float: left;_x000D_
    padding: 20px;_x000D_
    margin: 20px;_x000D_
    position: relative;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.button::after {_x000D_
    content: '';_x000D_
    position: absolute;_x000D_
    top: 0;_x000D_
    right: 0;_x000D_
    bottom: 0;_x000D_
    left: 0;_x000D_
    border: 5px solid #f00;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class='button'>Hello</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Using ::after you are styling the virtual last child of the selected element. content property creates an anonymous replaced element.

We are containing the pseudo element using absolute position relative to the parent. Then you have freedom to have whatever custom background and/or border in the background of your main element.

This approach does not affect placement of the contents of the main element, which is different from using box-sizing: border-box;.

Consider this example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.parent {_x000D_
    width: 200px;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.button {_x000D_
    background: #333;_x000D_
    color: #fff;_x000D_
    padding: 20px;_x000D_
    border: 5px solid #f00;_x000D_
    border-left-width: 20px;_x000D_
    box-sizing: border-box;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class='parent'>_x000D_
    <div class='button'>Hello</div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Here .button width is constrained using the parent element. Setting the border-left-width adjusts the content-box size and thus the position of the text.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.parent {_x000D_
    width: 200px;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.button {_x000D_
    background: #333;_x000D_
    color: #fff;_x000D_
    padding: 20px;_x000D_
    position: relative;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.button::after {_x000D_
    content: '';_x000D_
    position: absolute;_x000D_
    top: 0;_x000D_
    right: 0;_x000D_
    bottom: 0;_x000D_
    left: 0;_x000D_
    border: 5px solid #f00;_x000D_
    border-left-width: 20px;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class='parent'>_x000D_
    <div class='button'>Hello</div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Using the pseudo-element approach does not affect the content-box size.

Depending on the application, approach using a pseudo-element might or might not be a desirable behaviour.

Iterating through a list in reverse order in java

Guava offers Lists#reverse(List) and ImmutableList#reverse(). As in most cases for Guava, the former delegates to the latter if the argument is an ImmutableList, so you can use the former in all cases. These do not create new copies of the list but just "reversed views" of it.

Example

List reversed = ImmutableList.copyOf(myList).reverse();

When to use 'raise NotImplementedError'?

As the documentation states [docs],

In user defined base classes, abstract methods should raise this exception when they require derived classes to override the method, or while the class is being developed to indicate that the real implementation still needs to be added.

how to fix Cannot call sendRedirect() after the response has been committed?

The root cause of IllegalStateException exception is a java servlet is attempting to write to the output stream (response) after the response has been committed.

It is always better to ensure that no content is added to the response after the forward or redirect is done to avoid IllegalStateException. It can be done by including a ‘return’ statement immediately next to the forward or redirect statement.

How to force cp to overwrite without confirmation

As other answers have stated, this could happend if cp is an alias of cp -i.

You can append a \ before the cp command to use it without alias.

Conda: Installing / upgrading directly from github

There's better support for this now through conda-env. You can, for example, now do:

name: sample_env
channels:
dependencies:
   - requests
   - bokeh>=0.10.0
   - pip:
     - "--editable=git+https://github.com/pythonforfacebook/facebook-sdk.git@8c0d34291aaafec00e02eaa71cc2a242790a0fcc#egg=facebook_sdk-master"

It's still calling pip under the covers, but you can now unify your conda and pip package specifications in a single environment.yml file.

If you wanted to update your root environment with this file, you would need to save this to a file (for example, environment.yml), then run the command: conda env update -f environment.yml.

It's more likely that you would want to create a new environment:

conda env create -f environment.yml (changed as supposed in the comments)

Laravel 5 Clear Views Cache

To answer your additional question how disable views caching:

You can do this by automatically delete the files in the folder for each request with the command php artisan view:clear mentioned by DilipGurung. Here is an example Middleware class from https://stackoverflow.com/a/38598434/2311074

<?php
namespace App\Http\Middleware;

use Artisan;
use Closure;

class ClearViewCache
{
    /**
     * Handle an incoming request.
     *
     * @param  \Illuminate\Http\Request  $request
     * @param  \Closure  $next
     * @return mixed
     */
    public function handle($request, Closure $next)
    {
        if (env('APP_DEBUG') || env('APP_ENV') === 'local')
            Artisan::call('view:clear');

        return $next($request);
    }
}

However you may note that Larevel will recompile the files in the /app/storage/views folder whenever the time on the views files is earlier than the time on the PHP blade files for the layout. THus, I cannot really think of a scenario where this would be necessary to do.

JavaScript/JQuery: $(window).resize how to fire AFTER the resize is completed?

Actually, as I know, you can't do some actions exactly when resize is off, simply because you don't know future user's actions. But you can assume the time passed between two resize events, so if you wait a little more than this time and no resize is made, you can call your function.
Idea is that we use setTimeout and it's id in order to save or delete it. For example we know that time between two resize events is 500ms, therefore we will wait 750ms.

Regular expression \p{L} and \p{N}

At any rate, that's a very strange regex. You should not be using alternation when a character class would suffice:

What i suggest is , its better to use post than get. here are some difference between post VS get

Some notes on GET requests:

  1. GET requests can be cached
  2. GET requests remain in the browser history
  3. GET requests can be bookmarked
  4. GET requests should never be used when dealing with sensitive data
  5. GET requests have length restrictions
  6. GET requests should be used only to retrieve data

Some notes on POST requests:

  1. POST requests are never cached
  2. POST requests do not remain in the browser history
  3. POST requests cannot be bookmarked
  4. POST requests have no restrictions on data length

MySQL - Meaning of "PRIMARY KEY", "UNIQUE KEY" and "KEY" when used together while creating a table

Just to add to the other answers, the documentation gives this explanation:

  • KEY is normally a synonym for INDEX. The key attribute PRIMARY KEY can also be specified as just KEY when given in a column definition. This was implemented for compatibility with other database systems.

  • A UNIQUE index creates a constraint such that all values in the index must be distinct. An error occurs if you try to add a new row with a key value that matches an existing row. For all engines, a UNIQUE index permits multiple NULL values for columns that can contain NULL.

  • A PRIMARY KEY is a unique index where all key columns must be defined as NOT NULL. If they are not explicitly declared as NOT NULL, MySQL declares them so implicitly (and silently). A table can have only one PRIMARY KEY. The name of a PRIMARY KEY is always PRIMARY, which thus cannot be used as the name for any other kind of index.

Rails raw SQL example

I want to work with exec_query of the ActiveRecord class, because it returns the mapping of the query transforming into object, so it gets very practical and productive to iterate with the objects when the subject is Raw SQL.

Example:

values = ActiveRecord::Base.connection.exec_query("select * from clients")
p values

and return this complete query:

[{"id": 1, "name": "user 1"}, {"id": 2, "name": "user 2"}, {"id": 3, "name": "user 3"}]

To get only list of values

p values.rows

[[1, "user 1"], [2, "user 2"], [3, "user 3"]]

To get only fields columns

p values.columns

["id", "name"]

How to convert ActiveRecord results into an array of hashes

For current ActiveRecord (4.2.4+) there is a method to_hash on the Result object that returns an array of hashes. You can then map over it and convert to symbolized hashes:

# Get an array of hashes representing the result (column => value):
result.to_hash
# => [{"id" => 1, "title" => "title_1", "body" => "body_1"},
      {"id" => 2, "title" => "title_2", "body" => "body_2"},
      ...
     ]

result.to_hash.map(&:symbolize_keys)
# => [{:id => 1, :title => "title_1", :body => "body_1"},
      {:id => 2, :title => "title_2", :body => "body_2"},
      ...
     ]

See the ActiveRecord::Result docs for more info.

Callback functions in C++

There isn't an explicit concept of a callback function in C++. Callback mechanisms are often implemented via function pointers, functor objects, or callback objects. The programmers have to explicitly design and implement callback functionality.

Edit based on feedback:

In spite of the negative feedback this answer has received, it is not wrong. I'll try to do a better job of explaining where I'm coming from.

C and C++ have everything you need to implement callback functions. The most common and trivial way to implement a callback function is to pass a function pointer as a function argument.

However, callback functions and function pointers are not synonymous. A function pointer is a language mechanism, while a callback function is a semantic concept. Function pointers are not the only way to implement a callback function - you can also use functors and even garden variety virtual functions. What makes a function call a callback is not the mechanism used to identify and call the function, but the context and semantics of the call. Saying something is a callback function implies a greater than normal separation between the calling function and the specific function being called, a looser conceptual coupling between the caller and the callee, with the caller having explicit control over what gets called. It is that fuzzy notion of looser conceptual coupling and caller-driven function selection that makes something a callback function, not the use of a function pointer.

For example, the .NET documentation for IFormatProvider says that "GetFormat is a callback method", even though it is just a run-of-the-mill interface method. I don't think anyone would argue that all virtual method calls are callback functions. What makes GetFormat a callback method is not the mechanics of how it is passed or invoked, but the semantics of the caller picking which object's GetFormat method will be called.

Some languages include features with explicit callback semantics, typically related to events and event handling. For example, C# has the event type with syntax and semantics explicitly designed around the concept of callbacks. Visual Basic has its Handles clause, which explicitly declares a method to be a callback function while abstracting away the concept of delegates or function pointers. In these cases, the semantic concept of a callback is integrated into the language itself.

C and C++, on the other hand, does not embed the semantic concept of callback functions nearly as explicitly. The mechanisms are there, the integrated semantics are not. You can implement callback functions just fine, but to get something more sophisticated which includes explicit callback semantics you have to build it on top of what C++ provides, such as what Qt did with their Signals and Slots.

In a nutshell, C++ has what you need to implement callbacks, often quite easily and trivially using function pointers. What it does not have is keywords and features whose semantics are specific to callbacks, such as raise, emit, Handles, event +=, etc. If you're coming from a language with those types of elements, the native callback support in C++ will feel neutered.

htaccess redirect to https://www

Michals answer worked for me, albeit with one small modification:

Problem:

when you have a single site security certificate, a browser that tries to access your page without https:// www. (or whichever domain your certificate covers) will display an ugly red warning screen before it even gets to receive the redirect to the safe and correct https page.

Solution

First use the redirect to the www (or whichever domain is covered by your certificate) and only then do the https redirect. This will ensure that your users are not confronted with any error because your browser sees a certificate that doesn't cover the current url.

#First rewrite any request to the wrong domain to use the correct one (here www.)
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

#Now, rewrite to HTTPS:
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

How to get std::vector pointer to the raw data?

&something gives you the address of the std::vector object, not the address of the data it holds. &something.begin() gives you the address of the iterator returned by begin() (as the compiler warns, this is not technically allowed because something.begin() is an rvalue expression, so its address cannot be taken).

Assuming the container has at least one element in it, you need to get the address of the initial element of the container, which you can get via

  • &something[0] or &something.front() (the address of the element at index 0), or

  • &*something.begin() (the address of the element pointed to by the iterator returned by begin()).

In C++11, a new member function was added to std::vector: data(). This member function returns the address of the initial element in the container, just like &something.front(). The advantage of this member function is that it is okay to call it even if the container is empty.

Python iterating through object attributes

UPDATED

For python 3, you should use items() instead of iteritems()

PYTHON 2

for attr, value in k.__dict__.iteritems():
        print attr, value

PYTHON 3

for attr, value in k.__dict__.items():
        print(attr, value)

This will print

'names', [a list with names]
'tweet', [a list with tweet]

How to define custom sort function in javascript?

It could be that the plugin is case-sensitive. Try inputting Te instead of te. You can probably have your results setup to not be case-sensitive. This question might help.

For a custom sort function on an Array, you can use any JavaScript function and pass it as parameter to an Array's sort() method like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var array = ['White 023', 'White', 'White flower', 'Teatr'];_x000D_
_x000D_
array.sort(function(x, y) {_x000D_
  if (x < y) {_x000D_
    return -1;_x000D_
  }_x000D_
  if (x > y) {_x000D_
    return 1;_x000D_
  }_x000D_
  return 0;_x000D_
});_x000D_
_x000D_
// Teatr White White 023 White flower_x000D_
document.write(array);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

How can I save application settings in a Windows Forms application?

The ApplicationSettings class doesn't support saving settings to the app.config file. That's very much by design; applications that run with a properly secured user account (think Vista UAC) do not have write access to the program's installation folder.

You can fight the system with the ConfigurationManager class. But the trivial workaround is to go into the Settings designer and change the setting's scope to User. If that causes hardships (say, the setting is relevant to every user), you should put your Options feature in a separate program so you can ask for the privilege elevation prompt. Or forego using a setting.

How to include "zero" / "0" results in COUNT aggregate?

You want an outer join for this (and you need to use person as the "driving" table)

SELECT person.person_id, COUNT(appointment.person_id) AS "number_of_appointments"
FROM person
  LEFT JOIN appointment ON person.person_id = appointment.person_id
GROUP BY person.person_id;

The reason why this is working, is that the outer (left) join will return NULL for those persons that do not have an appointment. The aggregate function count() will not count NULL values and thus you'll get a zero.

If you want to learn more about outer joins, here is a nice tutorial: http://sqlzoo.net/wiki/Using_Null

How to present a modal atop the current view in Swift

The only problem I can see in your code is that you are using CurrentContext instead of OverCurrentContext.

So, replace this:

self.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.CurrentContext
self.navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.CurrentContext

for this:

self.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.OverCurrentContext
self.navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.OverCurrentContext

 var MyComponent = React.createClass({

   render: function() {
    return (
      <OtherComponent
        body={this.body}
      />
    );
   },

   body() {
     return(
       <p>This is <strong>now</strong> working.<p>
     );
   }

});

var OtherComponent = React.createClass({

  propTypes: {
    body: React.PropTypes.func
  },

  render: function() {
     return (
        <section>
          {this.props.body()}
        </section>
     );
  },

});

How can I initialize C++ object member variables in the constructor?

This question is a bit old, but here's another way in C++11 of "doing more work" in the constructor before initialising your member variables:

BigMommaClass::BigMommaClass(int numba1, int numba2)
    : thingOne([](int n1, int n2){return n1+n2;}(numba1,numba2)),
      thingTwo(numba1, numba2) {}

The lambda function above will be invoked and the result passed to thingOnes constructor. You can of course make the lambda as complex as you like.

how to use #ifdef with an OR condition?

OR condition in #ifdef

#if defined LINUX || defined ANDROID
// your code here
#endif /* LINUX || ANDROID */

or-

#if defined(LINUX) || defined(ANDROID)
// your code here
#endif /* LINUX || ANDROID */

Both above are the same, which one you use simply depends on your taste.

P.S.: #ifdef is simply the short form of #if defined, however, does not support complex condition.

Further-

  • AND: #if defined LINUX && defined ANDROID
  • XOR: #if defined LINUX ^ defined ANDROID

typedef struct vs struct definitions

If you use struct without typedef, you'll always have to write

struct mystruct myvar;

It's illegal to write

mystruct myvar;

If you use the typedef you don't need the struct prefix anymore.

Round up value to nearest whole number in SQL UPDATE

Combine round and ceiling to get a proper round up.

select ceiling(round(984.375000), 0)) => 984

while

select round(984.375000, 0) => 984.000000

and

select ceil (984.375000) => 985

Date to milliseconds and back to date in Swift

let dateTimeStamp = NSDate(timeIntervalSince1970:Double(currentTimeInMiliseconds())/1000)  //UTC time  //YOUR currentTimeInMiliseconds METHOD
let dateFormatter = NSDateFormatter()
dateFormatter.timeZone = NSTimeZone.localTimeZone()
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "yyyy-MM-dd"
dateFormatter.dateStyle = NSDateFormatterStyle.FullStyle
dateFormatter.timeStyle = NSDateFormatterStyle.ShortStyle

let strDateSelect = dateFormatter.stringFromDate(dateTimeStamp)
print("Local Time", strDateSelect) //Local time

let dateFormatter2 = NSDateFormatter()
dateFormatter2.timeZone = NSTimeZone(name: "UTC") as NSTimeZone!
dateFormatter2.dateFormat = "yyyy-MM-dd"

let date3 = dateFormatter.dateFromString(strDateSelect)
print("DATE",date3)

Pandas - How to flatten a hierarchical index in columns

A general solution that handles multiple levels and mixed types:

Why does JSON.parse fail with the empty string?

Because '' is not a valid Javascript/JSON object. An empty object would be '{}'

For reference: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/JSON/parse

json.decoder.JSONDecodeError: Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)

json.loads() takes a JSON encoded string, not a filename. You want to use json.load() (no s) instead and pass in an open file object:

with open('/Users/JoshuaHawley/clean1.txt') as jsonfile:
    data = json.load(jsonfile)

The open() command produces a file object that json.load() can then read from, to produce the decoded Python object for you. The with statement ensures that the file is closed again when done.

The alternative is to read the data yourself and then pass it into json.loads().

How can I get LINQ to return the object which has the max value for a given property?

In LINQ you can solve it the following way:

Item itemMax = (from i in items
     let maxId = items.Max(m => m.ID)
     where i.ID == maxId
     select i).FirstOrDefault();
