That's the problem. After all, this makes multiple declarations for the same name in the same (global) scope - which will throw an error with const.

Instead, use var, use only one declaration in your main file, or only assign to window.APP exclusively.
Or use ES6 modules right away, and let your module bundler/loader deal with exposing them as expected.

The community is divided across tools like Browserify, Webpack, jspm, Grunt and Gulp. You might also hear about Yeoman or Slush. That’s not a problem, it’s just confusing for everyone trying to understand a clear path forward.

1. Package Manager

Package managers simplify installing and updating project dependencies, which are libraries such as: jQuery, Bootstrap, etc - everything that is used on your site and isn't written by you.

Browsing all the library websites, downloading and unpacking the archives, copying files into the projects — all of this is replaced with a few commands in the terminal.

NPM

It stands for: Node JS package manager helps you to manage all the libraries your software relies on. You would define your needs in a file called package.json and run npm install in the command line... then BANG, your packages are downloaded and ready to use. It could be used both for front-end and back-end libraries.

Bower

For front-end package management, the concept is the same with NPM. All your libraries are stored in a file named bower.json and then run bower install in the command line.

Bower is recommended their user to migrate over to npm or yarn. Please be careful

Difference between `Bower` and `NPM`

The biggest difference between Bower and NPM is that NPM does nested dependency tree while Bower requires a flat dependency tree as below.

Yarn

A new package manager for JavaScript published by Facebook recently with some more advantages compared to NPM. And with Yarn, you still can use both NPMand Bower registry to fetch the package. If you've installed a package before, yarn creates a cached copy which facilitates offline package installs.

jspm

JSPM is a package manager for the SystemJS universal module loader, built on top of the dynamic ES6 module loader. It is not an entirely new package manager with its own set of rules, rather it works on top of existing package sources. Out of the box, it works with GitHub and npm. As most of the Bower based packages are based on GitHub, we can install those packages using jspm as well. It has a registry that lists most of the commonly used front-end packages for easier installation.

2. Module Loader/Bundling

Most projects of any scale will have their code split between several files. You can just include each file with an individual <script> tag, however, <script> establishes a new HTTP connection, and for small files – which is a goal of modularity – the time to set up the connection can take significantly longer than transferring the data. While the scripts are downloading, no content can be changed on the page.

The problem of download time can largely be solved by concatenating a group of simple modules into a single file and minifying it.

The performance comes at the expense of flexibility though. If your modules have inter-dependency, this lack of flexibility may be a showstopper.

Computers can do that better than you can, and that is why you should use a tool to automatically bundle everything into a single file.

Then we heard about RequireJS, Browserify, Webpack and SystemJS

RequireJS

It is a JavaScript file and module loader. It is optimized for in-browser use, but it can be used in other JavaScript environments, like Node.

E.g: myModule.js

Browserify

Set out to allow the use of CommonJS formatted modules in the browser. Consequently, Browserify isn’t as much a module loader as a module bundler: Browserify is entirely a build-time tool, producing a bundle of code that can then be loaded client-side.

Start with a build machine that has node & npm installed, and get the package:

npm install -g –save-dev browserify

Write your modules in CommonJS format

And when happy, issue the command to bundle:

Browserify recursively finds all dependencies of entry-point and assembles them into a single file:

Webpack

It bundles all of your static assets, including JavaScript, images, CSS, and more, into a single file. It also enables you to process the files through different types of loaders. You could write your JavaScript with CommonJS or AMD modules syntax. It attacks the build problem in a fundamentally more integrated and opinionated manner. In Browserify you use Gulp/Grunt and a long list of transforms and plugins to get the job done. Webpack offers enough power out of the box that you typically don’t need Grunt or Gulp at all.

Basic usage is beyond simple. Install Webpack like Browserify:

npm install -g –save-dev webpack

And pass the command an entry point and an output file:

webpack ./entry-point.js bundle-name.js

SystemJS

It is a module loader that can import modules at run time in any of the popular formats used today (CommonJS, UMD, AMD, ES6). It is built on top of the ES6 module loader polyfill and is smart enough to detect the format being used and handle it appropriately. SystemJS can also transpile ES6 code (with Babel or Traceur) or other languages such as TypeScript and CoffeeScript using plugins.

Why jspm and SystemJS?

One of the main goals of ES6 modularity is to make it really simple to install and use any Javascript library from anywhere on the Internet (Github, npm, etc.). Only two things are needed:

A single command to install the library

One single line of code to import the library and use it

So with jspm, you can do it.

Install the library with a command: jspm install jquery

Import the library with a single line of code, no need to external reference inside your HTML file.

Then you configure these things within System.config({ ... }) before importing your module. Normally when run jspm init, there will be a file named config.js for this purpose.

To make these scripts run, we need to load system.js and config.js on the HTML page. After that, we will load the display.js file using the SystemJS module loader.

Noted: You can also use npm with Webpack as Angular 2 has applied it. Since jspm was developed to integrate with SystemJS and it works on top of the existing npm source, so your answer is up to you.

3. Task runner

Task runners and build tools are primarily command-line tools. Why we need to use them: In one word: automation. The less work you have to do when performing repetitive tasks like minification, compilation, unit testing, linting which previously cost us a lot of times to do with command line or even manually.

Grunt

You can create automation for your development environment to pre-process codes or create build scripts with a config file and it seems very difficult to handle a complex task. Popular in the last few years.

Every task in Grunt is an array of different plugin configurations, that simply get executed one after another, in a strictly independent, and sequential fashion.

Slush and Yeoman

You can create starter projects with them. For example, you are planning to build a prototype with HTML and SCSS, then instead of manually create some folder like scss, css, img, fonts. You can just install yeoman and run a simple script. Then everything here for you.

I believe commenting out display_errors in php.ini won't work because the default is On. You must set it to 'Off' instead.

How do you make websites with Java?

Also be advised, that while Java is in general very beginner friendly, getting into JavaEE, Servlets, Facelets, Eclipse integration, JSP and getting everything in Tomcat up and running is not. Certainly not the easiest way to build a website and probably way overkill for most things.

On top of that you may need to host your website yourself, because most webspace providers don't provide Servlet Containers. If you just want to check it out for fun, I would try Ruby or Python, which are much more cooler things to fiddle around with. text-align doesn't always work as intended for layout options, it's mainly just for text. (But is often used for form elements too).

Align text in a table header

Your code works, but it uses deprecated methods to do so. You should use the CSS text-align property to do this rather than the align property. Even so, it must be your browser or something else affecting it. Try this demo in Chrome (I had to disable normalize.css to get it to render).

The cleanest way I found to do this is create a child of 'ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar'. In the example, I set the Toolbar's background color to RED and text's color to BLUE.

branch: add a --copy (-c) option to go with --move (-m)

Add the ability to --copy a branch and its reflog and configuration, this uses the same underlying machinery as the --move (-m) option except the reflog and configuration is copied instead of being moved.

This is useful for e.g. copying a topic branch to a new version, e.g. work to work-2 after submitting the work topic to the list, while preserving all the tracking info and other configuration that goes with the branch, and unlike --move keeping the other already-submitted branch around for reference.

Note: when copying a branch, you remain on your current branch.
As Junio C Hamano explains, the initial implementation of this new feature was modifying HEAD, which was not good:

When creating a new branch B by copying the branch A that happens to be the current branch, it also updates HEAD to point at the new branch.
It probably was made this way because "git branch -c A B" piggybacked its implementation on "git branch -m A B",

This does not match the usual expectation.
If I were sitting on a blue chair, and somebody comes and repaints it to red, I would accept ending up sitting on a chair that is now red (I am also OK to stand, instead, as there no longer is my favourite blue chair).

But if somebody creates a new red chair, modelling it after the blue chair I am sitting on, I do not expect to be booted off of the blue chair and ending up on sitting on the new red one.

OwinStartup not firing

For me it was because they are not in the same namespace. After I remove my AppStart from "project.Startup.AppStart" and let they both Startup.cs and Startup.Auth.cs with "project.Startup" namespace, everything was back to work perfectly.

Search the location of the old chromedriver file on your computer and replace it with the new chromedriver file.
Right-click the chromedriver file and click open. Do not double click as Mac will not open it the proper way.
Once the file runs for the first time, you can close it and the update will have taken place.

A completely valid way to select all browsers but IE8 and below is using the :root selector. Since IE versions 8 and below do not support :root, selectors containing it are ignored. This means you could do something like this:

This is still completely valid CSS, but it does cause IE8 and lower to render different styles.

How to use RecyclerView inside NestedScrollView?

I used RecyclerView inside a NestedScrollView and it worked for me. The only gotcha I had to keep in mind was that a NestedScrollView takes only one child view. So in my case I used of LienearLayout viewgroup which was housing my RecyclerView plus a number of other views that I needed.

I experience one issue putting my RecyclerView inside the NestedScrollView. I realized that scrolling the content of my RecyclerView slacked.

I later realized that my RecyclerView was receiving the scrolling event and therefore was conflicting with the scrolling behavior of the NestedScrollView.

So to solve that problem, I had to disable the scroll functionality of my RecyclerView with this method movieListNewRecyclerView.setNestedScrollingEnabled(false);

For a shopping cart situation here's what I recommend. I'm gonna break it down into it's simplest form.

Assuming we start with this(a list view with 2 colums, 2 buttons, and a label): starting

First things first, removing the items, to do that we'll enter our remove button:

You don't have to use decimal like I did, you can use float or int if you don't have decimals. So let's break it down. We use a for loop to total all the items in the column 2(SubItems[1].Text). Add that to a decimal we declared prior to the foreach loop to keep a total. If you want to do tax you can do something like:

return runningTotal * 1.15;

or whatever your tax rate is.

Long and short of it, using this function you can retotal your listview by just calling the function. You can change the labels text like I demo'd prior if that's what you're after.

The old-school (pre-PEP 3119) way to do this is just to raise NotImplementedError in the abstract class when an abstract method is called.

IOCTL Linux device driver

The ioctl function is useful for implementing a device driver to set the configuration on the device. e.g. a printer that has configuration options to check and set the font family, font size etc. ioctl could be used to get the current font as well as set the font to a new one. A user application uses ioctl to send a code to a printer telling it to return the current font or to set the font to a new one.

int ioctl(int fd, int request, ...)

fd is file descriptor, the one returned by open;
request is request code. e.g GETFONT will get the current font from the printer, SETFONT will set the font on the printer;
the third argument is void *. Depending on the second argument, the third may or may not be present, e.g. if the second argument is SETFONT, the third argument can be the font name such as "Arial";

int request is not just a macro. A user application is required to generate a request code and the device driver module to determine which configuration on device must be played with. The application sends the request code using ioctl and then uses the request code in the device driver module to determine which action to perform.

A request code has 4 main parts

    1. A Magic number - 8 bits
    2. A sequence number - 8 bits
    3. Argument type (typically 14 bits), if any.
    4. Direction of data transfer (2 bits).

If the request code is SETFONT to set font on a printer, the direction for data transfer will be from user application to device driver module (The user application sends the font name "Arial" to the printer). If the request code is GETFONT, direction is from printer to the user application.

In order to generate a request code, Linux provides some predefined function-like macros.

1._IO(MAGIC, SEQ_NO) both are 8 bits, 0 to 255, e.g. let us say we want to pause printer. This does not require a data transfer. So we would generate the request code as below

and now use ioctl as

__IOW(MAGIC, SEQ_NO, TYPE) MAGIC and SEQ_NO are the same as above, and TYPE gives the type of the next argument, recall the third argument of ioctl is void *. W in __IOW indicates that the data flow is from user application to driver module. As an example, suppose we want to set the printer font to "Arial".

Kernel space can access user space and hence this works. other two function-like macros are __IOR(MAGIC, SEQ_NO, TYPE) and __IORW(MAGIC, SEQ_NO, TYPE) where the data flow will be from kernel space to user space and both ways respectively.

Using Colormaps to set color of line in matplotlib

I thought it would be beneficial to include what I consider to be a more simple method using numpy's linspace coupled with matplotlib's cm-type object. It's possible that the above solution is for an older version. I am using the python 3.4.3, matplotlib 1.4.3, and numpy 1.9.3., and my solution is as follows.

This results in 1000 uniquely-colored lines that span the entire cm.jet colormap as pictured below. If you run this script you'll find that you can zoom in on the individual lines.

Now say I want my 1000 line colors to just span the greenish portion between lines 400 to 600. I simply change my start and stop values to 0.4 and 0.6 and this results in using only 20% of the cm.jet color map between 0.4 and 0.6.

So in a one line summary you can create a list of rgba colors from a matplotlib.cm colormap accordingly:

That's part of the syntax of the new lambda expressions, to be introduced in Java 8. There are a couple of online tutorials to get the hang of it, here's a link to one. Basically, the -> separates the parameters (left-side) from the implementation (right side).

The general syntax for using lambda expressions is

(Parameters) -> { Body } where the -> separates parameters and lambda expression body.

ORDER BY allows you to sort the result set according to different criteria, such as first sort by name from a-z, then sort by the price highest to lowest.

You can use git add -i to get an interactive version of git add, although that's not exactly what you're after. The simplest thing to do is, after having git added, use git status to see what is staged or not.

Using git add . isn't really recommended unless it's your first commit. It's usually better to explicitly list the files you want staged, so that you don't start tracking unwanted files accidentally (temp files and such).

I was ultimately able to resolve the solution by setting the column type in the flat file connection to be of type "database date [DT_DBDATE]"

Apparently the differences between these date formats are as follow:

DT_DATE A date structure that consists of year, month, day, and hour.

DT_DBDATE A date structure that consists of year, month, and day.

DT_DBTIMESTAMP A timestamp structure that consists of year, month, hour, minute, second, and fraction

By changing the column type to DT_DBDATE the issue was resolved - I attached a Data Viewer and the CYCLE_DATE value was now simply "12/20/2010" without a time component, which apparently resolved the issue.

Use anchors instead:

These make sure that the start and end of the string are matched at the start and end of the regex. (well, technically, you don't need the starting ^ anchor because it's implicit in the .match() method).

Then, check if the regex did in fact match before trying to access its results:

For example, a Bitmap Processing library will provide facilities for loading and manipulating bitmap images, saving you having to write all that code for yourself. Typically a library will only offer one area of functionality (processing images or operating on zip files)

An API (application programming interface) is a term meaning the functions/methods in a library that you can call to ask it to do things for you - the interface to the library.

An SDK (software development kit) is a library or group of libraries (often with extra tool applications, data files and sample code) that aid you in developing code that uses a particular system (e.g. extension code for using features of an operating system (Windows SDK), drawing 3D graphics via a particular system (DirectX SDK), writing add-ins to extend other applications (Office SDK), or writing code to make a device like an Arduino or a mobile phone do what you want). An SDK will still usually have a single focus.

A toolkit is like an SDK - it's a group of tools (and often code libraries) that you can use to make it easier to access a device or system... Though perhaps with more focus on providing tools and applications than on just code libraries.

The reason it's hard to just kill a thread is because the language designers want to avoid the following problem: your thread takes a lock, and then you kill it before it can release it. Now anyone who needs that lock will get stuck.

I had the same issue, I solved this with the following steps:

Install the MySql (DMG) from this link
If the mysql package comes with the file name "mysql-5.7.13...." and "MySql.prefPane" then your life is really easy. Just click on "mysql-5.7.13...." and follow the instructions.
After the installation is done, click on "MySql.prefPane" and checkout "Only for this user" in the popup. We use "MySql.prefPane" to start the mysql server as this is really imp because without this you will end up having errors.
Click on Start MySql Server in the next dialog box.

OR

If you don't see "MySql.prefPane" in the package then follow these steps:
1. Click on package "mysql-5.7.13...." and this will show you one password as soon as installation is done. That password is use to start the connection. You can change it. I will let you know in a while.
2. After installation save the password (this is really important - you'll need it later), open terminal. $ cd /usr/local/mysql/bin/ $ ./mysql -u root -h localhost -p And then type the password from above. This should start mysql>
3. To change the password: $ cd /usr/local/mysql/bin/ $ ./mysqladmin -u root -p password 'new_password' Enter Password: <type new password here> $ ./mysql -u root -h localhost -p ... and log in with the new password.

Pointer vs. Reference

This ultimately ends up being subjective. The discussion thus far is useful, but I don't think there is a correct or decisive answer to this. A lot will depend on style guidelines and your needs at the time.

While there are some different capabilities (whether or not something can be NULL) with a pointer, the largest practical difference for an output parameter is purely syntax. Google's C++ Style Guide (https://google.github.io/styleguide/cppguide.html#Reference_Arguments), for example, mandates only pointers for output parameters, and allows only references that are const. The reasoning is one of readability: something with value syntax should not have pointer semantic meaning. Mockito - NullpointerException when stubbing Method

For me the reason I was getting NPE is that I was using Mockito.any() when mocking primitives. I found that by switching to using the correct variant from mockito gets rid of the errors.

For example, to mock a function that takes a primitive long as parameter, instead of using any(), you should be more specific and replace that with any(Long.class) or Mockito.anyLong().

float and double don't store decimal places. They store binary places: float is (assuming IEEE 754) 24 significant bits (7.22 decimal digits) and double is 53 significant bits (15.95 significant digits).

Converting from double to float will give you the closest possible float, so rounding won't help you. Goining the other way may give you "noise" digits in the decimal representation.

To fully utilize the possibilities of HTML and javascript to make a web application, that is, a web page that acts more like an application and relies heavily on client side rendering, you should consider letting the client maintain all responsibility of managing state and presentation. This will be easier to maintain, and will be more user friendly.

I would recommend you to get more comfortable thinking in a more API centric approach. Rather than having PHP output a pre-rendered view, and use angular for mere DOM manipulation, you should consider having the PHP backend output the data that should be acted upon RESTFully, and have Angular present it.

Using PHP to render the view:

Arrays in java are objects, and all objects are passed by reference. In order to really "copy" an array, instead of creating another name for an array, you have to go and create a new array and copy over all the values.
