Regular expression \p{L} and \p{N}

These are Unicode property shortcuts (\p{L} for Unicode letters, \p{N} for Unicode digits). They are supported by .NET, Perl, Java, PCRE, XML, XPath, JGSoft, Ruby (1.9 and higher) and PHP (since 5.1.0)

At any rate, that's a very strange regex. You should not be using alternation when a character class would suffice:

[\p{L}\p{N}_.-]*

How do I use variables in Oracle SQL Developer?

Try this it will work, it's better create a procedure, if procedure is not possible you can use this script.

with param AS(
SELECT 1234 empid
FROM dual)
 SELECT *
  FROM Employees, param
  WHERE EmployeeID = param.empid;
END;

DataTable customers = myDataset.Tables.Add("Customers");

customers.Columns.Add("Name");
customers.Columns.Add("Age");

customers.Rows.Add("Chris", "25");

//Get data
DataTable myCustomers = myDataset.Tables["Customers"];
DataRow currentRow = null;
for (int i = 0; i < myCustomers.Rows.Count; i++)
{
    currentRow = myCustomers.Rows[i];
    listBox1.Items.Add(string.Format("{0} is {1} YEARS OLD", currentRow["Name"], currentRow["Age"]));
}

insert data into database with codeigniter

It will be better for you to write your code like this.

In your Controller Write this code.

    function new_blank_order_summary() {
     $query = $this->sales_model->order_summary_insert();
     if($query) {
        $this->load->view('sales/new_blank_order_summary');
    } else {
        $this->load->view('sales/data_insertion_failed');
    }
  }

and in your Model

function order_summary_insert() {
    $orderLines = trim(xss_clean($this->input->post('orderlines')));
    $customerName = trim(xss_clean($this->input->post('customer')));
    $data = array(
        'OrderLines'=>$orderLines,
        'CustomerName'=>$customerName
    );

    $this->db->insert('Customer_Orders',$data);
    return ($this->db->affected_rows() != 1) ? false : true;
}

Integer value in TextView

If you want it to display on your layout you should

For example:

activity_layout.XML file

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/example_tv"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>

On the activity.java file

    final TextView textView = findViewById(R.id.example_tv);
    textView.setText(Integer.toString(yourNumberHere));

In the first line on the XML file you can see:

android:id="@+id/example_tv"

That's where you get the id to change in the .java file for the findViewById(R.id.example_tv)

Hope I made myself clear, I just went with this explanation because a lot of times people seem to know the ".setText()" method, they just can't change the text in the "UI".

EDIT Since this is a fairly old answer, and Kotlin is the preferred language for Android development, here's its counterpart.

With the same XML layout:

You can either use the findViewbyId() or use Kotlin synthetic properties:

findViewById<TextView>(R.id.example_tv).text = yourNumberHere.toString()

// Or

example_tv?.text = yourNumberHere.toString()

The toString() is from Kotlin's Any object (comparable to the Java Object):

The root of the Kotlin class hierarchy. Every Kotlin class has Any as a superclass.

There are errors here :

var formTag = document.getElementsByTagName("form"), // form tag is an array

The code must change to:

var formTag = document.getElementsByTagName("form");
var selectListItem = $('select');
var makeSelect = document.createElement('select');
makeSelect.setAttribute("id", "groups");

By the way, there is another error at line 129 :

Replace it with:

How can I use a reportviewer control in an asp.net mvc 3 razor view?

I am using ASP.NET MVC3 with SSRS 2008 and I couldn't get @Adrian's to work 100% for me when trying to get reports from a remote server.

Finally, I found that I needed to change the Page_Load method in ViewUserControl1.ascx to look like this:

ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote;
ServerReport serverReport = ReportViewer1.ServerReport;
serverReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri("http://<Server Name>/reportserver");
serverReport.ReportPath = "/My Folder/MyReport";
serverReport.Refresh();

I had been missing the ProcessingMode.Remote.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes)

WordPress overrides PHP's memory limit to 256M, with the assumption that whatever it was set to before is going to be too low to render the dashboard. You can override this by defining WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php:

define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT' , '512M' );

I agree with DanFromGermany, 256M is really a lot of memory for rendering a dashboard page. Changing the memory limit is really putting a bandage on the problem.

What is the scope of variables in JavaScript?

JavaScript have only two type of scope :

  1. Global Scope : Global is nothing but a window level scope.Here, variable present throughout the application.
  2. Functional Scope : Variable declared within a function with var keyword has functional scope.

Whenever a function is called, a variable scope object is created (and included in scope chain) which is followed by variables in JavaScript.

        a = "global";
         function outer(){
              b = "local";
              console.log(a+b); //"globallocal"
         }
outer();

Scope chain -->

  1. Window level - a and outer function are at top level in scope chain.
  2. when outer function called a new variable scope object(and included in scope chain) added with variable b inside it.

Now when a variable a required it first searches for nearest variable scope and if variable is not there than it move's to next object of variable scope chain.which is in this case is window level.

Difference between <span> and <div> with text-align:center;?

Span is considered an in-line element. As such is basically constrains itself to the content within it. It more or less is transparent.

Think of it having the behavior of the 'b' tag.

It can be performed like <span style='font-weight: bold;'>bold text</span>

div is a block element.

Java inner class and static nested class

Inner class and nested static class in Java both are classes declared inside another class, known as top level class in Java. In Java terminology, If you declare a nested class static, it will called nested static class in Java while non static nested class are simply referred as Inner Class.

What is Inner Class in Java?

Any class which is not a top level or declared inside another class is known as nested class and out of those nested classes, class which are declared non static are known as Inner class in Java. there are three kinds of Inner class in Java:

1) Local inner class - is declared inside a code block or method.
2) Anonymous inner class - is a class which doesn't have name to reference and initialized at same place where it gets created.
3) Member inner class - is declared as non static member of outer class.

public class InnerClassTest {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
        //creating local inner class inside method i.e. main()
        class Local {
            public void name() {
                System.out.println("Example of Local class in Java");

            }
        }
        //creating instance of local inner class
        Local local = new Local();
        local.name(); //calling method from local inner class

        //Creating anonymous inner class in Java for implementing thread
        Thread anonymous = new Thread(){
            @Override
            public void run(){
                System.out.println("Anonymous class example in java");
            }
        };
        anonymous.start();

        //example of creating instance of inner class
        InnerClassTest test = new InnerClassTest();
        InnerClassTest.Inner inner = test.new Inner();
        inner.name(); //calling method of inner class
    }

     //Creating Inner class in Java
    private class Inner{
        public void name(){
            System.out.println("Inner class example in java");
        }
    }
}

What is nested static class in Java?

Nested static class is another class which is declared inside a class as member and made static. Nested static class is also declared as member of outer class and can be make private, public or protected like any other member. One of the main benefit of nested static class over inner class is that instance of nested static class is not attached to any enclosing instance of Outer class. You also don't need any instance of Outer class to create instance of nested static class in Java.

1) It can access static data members of outer class including private.
2) Static nested class cannot access non-static (instance) data member or method.

public class NestedStaticExample {
    public static void main(String args[]){
        StaticNested nested = new StaticNested();
        nested.name();
    }
    //static nested class in java
    private static class StaticNested{
        public void name(){
            System.out.println("static nested class example in java");
        }
    }
}

Selecting non-blank cells in Excel with VBA

If you are looking for the last row of a column, use:

Sub SelectFirstColumn()
   SelectEntireColumn (1)
End Sub

Sub SelectSecondColumn()
    SelectEntireColumn (2)
End Sub

Sub SelectEntireColumn(columnNumber)
    Dim LastRow
    Sheets("sheet1").Select
    LastRow = ActiveSheet.Columns(columnNumber).SpecialCells(xlLastCell).Row

    ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(1, columnNumber), Cells(LastRow, columnNumber)).Select
End Sub

Other commands you will need to get familiar with are copy and paste commands:

Sub CopyOneToTwo()
    SelectEntireColumn (1)
    Selection.Copy

    Sheets("sheet1").Select
    ActiveSheet.Range("B1").PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues
End Sub

Finally, you can reference worksheets in other workbooks by using the following syntax:

Dim book2
Set book2 = Workbooks.Open("C:\book2.xls")
book2.Worksheets("sheet1")

Setting environment variables on OS X

/etc/launchd.conf is not used in OS X v10.10 (Yosemite), OS X v10.11 (El Capitan), macOS v10.12 (Sierra), or macOS v10.13 (High Sierra).

From the launchctl man page:

/etc/launchd.conf file is no longer consulted for subcommands to run during early boot time;
this functionality was removed for security considerations.

The method described in this Ask Different answer works for me (after a reboot): applications launched from the Dock or from Spotlight inherit environment variables that I set in ~/Library/LaunchAgents/my.startup.plist. (In my case, I needed to set LANG, to en_US.UTF-8, for a Sublime Text plugin.)

and it solved my problem.

$on and $broadcast in angular

If you want to $broadcast use the $rootScope:

$scope.startScanner = function() {

    $rootScope.$broadcast('scanner-started');
}

And then to receive, use the $scope of your controller:

$scope.$on('scanner-started', function(event, args) {

    // do what you want to do
});

If you want you can pass arguments when you $broadcast:

$rootScope.$broadcast('scanner-started', { any: {} });

And then receive them:

$scope.$on('scanner-started', function(event, args) {

    var anyThing = args.any;
    // do what you want to do
});

Documentation for this inside the Scope docs.

Output of git branch in tree like fashion

The answer below uses git log:

I mentioned a similar approach in 2009 with "Unable to show a Git tree in terminal":

git log --graph --pretty=oneline --abbrev-commit

But the full one I have been using is in "How to display the tag name and branch name using git log --graph" (2011):

git config --global alias.lgb "log --graph --pretty=format:'%Cred%h%Creset -%C(yellow)%d%Creset %s %Cgreen(%cr) %C(bold blue)<%an>%Creset%n' --abbrev-commit --date=relative --branches"

git lgb

Original answer (2010)

git show-branch --list comes close of what you are looking for (with the topo order)

--topo-order

By default, the branches and their commits are shown in reverse chronological order.
This option makes them appear in topological order (i.e., descendant commits are shown before their parents).

But the tool git wtf can help too. Example:

$ git wtf
Local branch: master
[ ] NOT in sync with remote (needs push)
    - Add before-search hook, for shortcuts for custom search queries. [4430d1b] (edwardzyang@...; 7 days ago)
Remote branch: origin/master ([email protected]:sup/mainline.git)
[x] in sync with local

Feature branches:
{ } origin/release-0.8.1 is NOT merged in (1 commit ahead)
    - bump to 0.8.1 [dab43fb] (wmorgan-sup@...; 2 days ago)
[ ] labels-before-subj is NOT merged in (1 commit ahead)
    - put labels before subject in thread index view [790b64d] (marka@...; 4 weeks ago)
{x} origin/enclosed-message-display-tweaks merged in
(x) experiment merged in (only locally)

NOTE: working directory contains modified files

git-wtf shows you:

  • How your branch relates to the remote repo, if it's a tracking branch.
  • How your branch relates to non-feature ("version") branches, if it's a feature branch.
  • How your branch relates to the feature branches, if it's a version branch

How to call multiple JavaScript functions in onclick event?

One addition, for maintainable JavaScript is using a named function.

This is the example of the anonymous function:

var el = document.getElementById('id');

// example using an anonymous function (not recommended):
el.addEventListener('click', function() { alert('hello world'); });
el.addEventListener('click', function() { alert('another event') });

But imagine you have a couple of them attached to that same element and want to remove one of them. It is not possible to remove a single anonymous function from that event listener.

Instead, you can use named functions:

var el = document.getElementById('id');

// create named functions:
function alertFirst() { alert('hello world'); };
function alertSecond() { alert('hello world'); };

// assign functions to the event listeners (recommended):
el.addEventListener('click', alertFirst);
el.addEventListener('click', alertSecond);

// then you could remove either one of the functions using:
el.removeEventListener('click', alertFirst);

This also keeps your code a lot easier to read and maintain. Especially if your function is larger.

UnmodifiableMap (Java Collections) vs ImmutableMap (Google)

Guava Documentation

The JDK provides Collections.unmodifiableXXX methods, but in our opinion, these can be unwieldy and verbose; unpleasant to use everywhere you want to make defensive copies unsafe: the returned collections are only truly immutable if nobody holds a reference to the original collection inefficient: the data structures still have all the overhead of mutable collections, including concurrent modification checks, extra space in hash tables, etc.

Does a foreign key automatically create an index?

A foreign key is a constraint, a relationship between two tables - that has nothing to do with an index per se.

But it is a known fact that it makes a lot of sense to index all the columns that are part of any foreign key relationship, because through a FK-relationship, you'll often need to lookup a relating table and extract certain rows based on a single value or a range of values.

So it makes good sense to index any columns involved in a FK, but a FK per se is not an index.

Check out Kimberly Tripp's excellent article "When did SQL Server stop putting indexes on Foreign Key columns?".

You can use CSS3 to create an effect like that, but then you're only going to see it in modern browsers that support box shadow, unless you use a polyfill like CSS3PIE. So, for example, you could do something like this: http://jsfiddle.net/cany2/

Can iterators be reset in Python?

There's a bug in using .seek(0) as advocated by Alex Martelli and Wilduck above, namely that the next call to .next() will give you a dictionary of your header row in the form of {key1:key1, key2:key2, ...}. The work around is to follow file.seek(0) with a call to reader.next() to get rid of the header row.

So your code would look something like this:

f_in = open('myfile.csv','r')
reader = csv.DictReader(f_in)

for record in reader:
    if some_condition:
        # reset reader to first row of data on 2nd line of file
        f_in.seek(0)
        reader.next()
        continue
    do_something(record)

How to return a resolved promise from an AngularJS Service using $q?

Return your promise , return deferred.promise.
It is the promise API that has the 'then' method.

https://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/service/$q

Calling resolve does not return a promise it only signals the promise that the promise is resolved so it can execute the 'then' logic.

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error) in Bind function

The 500 code would normally indicate an error on the server, not anything with your code. Some thoughts

  • Talk to the server developer for more info. You can't get more info directly.
  • Verify your arguments into the call (values). Look for anything you might think could cause a problem for the server process. The process should not die and should return you a better code, but bugs happen there also.
  • Could be intermittent, like if the server database goes down. May be worth trying at another time.

Click to call html

tl;dr What to do in modern (2018) times? Assume tel: is supported, use it and forget about anything else.

The tel: URI scheme RFC5431 (as well as sms: but also feed:, maps:, youtube: and others) is handled by protocol handlers (as mailto: and http: are).

They're unrelated to HTML5 specification (it has been out there from 90s and documented first time back in 2k with RFC2806) then you can't check for their support using tools as modernizr. A protocol handler may be installed by an application (for example Skype installs a callto: protocol handler with same meaning and behaviour of tel: but it's not a standard), natively supported by browser or installed (with some limitations) by website itself.

What HTML5 added is support for installing custom web based protocol handlers (with registerProtocolHandler() and related functions) simplifying also the check for their support through isProtocolHandlerRegistered() function.

There is some easy ways to determine if there is an handler or not:" How to detect browser's protocol handlers?).

In general what I suggest is:

  1. If you're running on a mobile device then you can safely assume tel: is supported (yes, it's not true for very old devices but IMO you can ignore them).
  2. If JS isn't active then do nothing.
  3. If you're running on desktop browsers then you can use one of the techniques in the linked post to determine if it's supported.
  4. If tel: isn't supported then change links to use callto: and repeat check desctibed in 3.
  5. If tel: and callto: aren't supported (or - in a desktop browser - you can't detect their support) then simply remove that link replacing URL in href with javascript:void(0) and (if number isn't repeated in text span) putting, telephone number in title. Here HTML5 microdata won't help users (just search engines). Note that newer versions of Skype handle both callto: and tel:.

Please note that (at least on latest Windows versions) there is always a - fake - registered protocol handler called App Picker (that annoying window that let you choose with which application you want to open an unknown file). This may vanish your tests so if you don't want to handle Windows environment as a special case you can simplify this process as:

  1. If you're running on a mobile device then assume tel: is supported.
  2. If you're running on desktop then replace tel: with callto:. then drop tel: or leave it as is (assuming there are good chances Skype is installed).

I ran into a merge conflict. How can I abort the merge?

If your git version is >= 1.6.1, you can use git reset --merge.

Also, as @Michael Johnson mentions, if your git version is >= 1.7.4, you can also use git merge --abort.

As always, make sure you have no uncommitted changes before you start a merge.

From the git merge man page

git merge --abort is equivalent to git reset --merge when MERGE_HEAD is present.

MERGE_HEAD is present when a merge is in progress.

Also, regarding uncommitted changes when starting a merge:

If you have changes you don't want to commit before starting a merge, just git stash them before the merge and git stash pop after finishing the merge or aborting it.

What is the correct way to start a mongod service on linux / OS X?

Edit: you should now use brew services start mongodb, as in Gergo's answer...

When you install/upgrade mongodb, brew will tell you what to do:

To have launchd start mongodb at login:

    ln -sfv /usr/local/opt/mongodb/*.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents

Then to load mongodb now:

    launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/homebrew.mxcl.mongodb.plist

Or, if you don't want/need launchctl, you can just run:

    mongod

It works perfectly.

making a paragraph in html contain a text from a file

You'll want to use either JavaScript or a server-side language like PHP, ASP...etc

(supposedly can be done with HTML <embed> tag, which makes sense, but I haven't used, since PHP...etc is so simple/common)

Javascript can work: Here's a link to someone doing something similar via javascript on stackoverflow: How do I load the contents of a text file into a javascript variable?

PHP (as example of server-side language) is the easiest way to go though:

<div><p><?php include('myFile.txt'); ?></p></div>

To use this (if you're unfamiliar with PHP), you can:

1) check if you have php on your server

2) change the file extension of your .html file to .php

3) paste the code from my PHP example somewhere in the body of your newly-renamed PHP file

Generate random numbers following a normal distribution in C/C++

There are many methods to generate Gaussian-distributed numbers from a regular RNG.

The Box-Muller transform is commonly used. It correctly produces values with a normal distribution. The math is easy. You generate two (uniform) random numbers, and by applying an formula to them, you get two normally distributed random numbers. Return one, and save the other for the next request for a random number.

How do I calculate someone's age in Java?

This is an improved version of the one above... considering that you want age to be an 'int'. because sometimes you don't want to fill your program with a bunch of libraries.

public int getAge(Date dateOfBirth) {
    int age = 0;
    Calendar born = Calendar.getInstance();
    Calendar now = Calendar.getInstance();
    if(dateOfBirth!= null) {
        now.setTime(new Date());
        born.setTime(dateOfBirth);
        if(born.after(now)) {
            throw new IllegalArgumentException("Can't be born in the future");
        }
        age = now.get(Calendar.YEAR) - born.get(Calendar.YEAR);
        if(now.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR) < born.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR))  {
            age-=1;
        }
    }
    return age;
}

assert query.first().name == "Welcome to my blog"

What do the different readystates in XMLHttpRequest mean, and how can I use them?

The full list of readyState values is:

State  Description
0 The request is not initialized
1 The request has been set up
2 The request has been sent
3 The request is in process
4      The request is complete

(from https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_ajax_http_response.asp)

In practice you almost never use any of them except for 4.

Some XMLHttpRequest implementations may let you see partially received responses in responseText when readyState==3, but this isn't universally supported and shouldn't be relied upon.

SQL command to display history of queries

You can look at the query cache: http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mysql/article.php/3110171/MySQLs-Query-Cache.htm but it might not give you access to the actual queries and will be very hit-and-miss if it did work (subtle pun intended)

But MySQL Query Browser very likely maintains its own list of queries that it runs, outside of the MySQL engine. You would have to do the same in your app.

Edit: see dan m's comment leading to this: How to show the last queries executed on MySQL? looks sound.

Run class in Jar file

There are two types of JAR files available in Java:

  1. Runnable/Executable jar file which contains manifest file. To run a Runnable jar you can use java -jar fileName.jar or java -jar -classpath abc.jar fileName.jar

  2. Simple jar file that does not contain a manifest file so you simply run your main class by giving its path java -cp ./fileName.jar MainClass

Oracle 'Partition By' and 'Row_Number' keyword

I know this is an old thread but PARTITION is the equiv of GROUP BY not ORDER BY. ORDER BY in this function is . . . ORDER BY. It's just a way to create uniqueness out of redundancy by adding a sequence number. Or you may eliminate the other redundant records by the WHERE clause when referencing the aliased column for the function. However, DISTINCT in the SELECT statement would probably accomplish the same thing in that regard.

C++ Passing Pointer to Function (Howto) + C++ Pointer Manipulation

void Fun(int* Pointer) -- would be called as Fun( &somevariable )

would allow you to manipulate the content of what 'Pointer' points to by dereferencing it inside the Fun function i.e.

*Pointer = 1;

declaring it as above also allows you also to manipulate data beyond what it points to:

int foo[10] = {0};
Fun(foo);

in the function you can then do like *(Pointer + 1) = 12; setting the array's 2nd value.

void Fun(int& Pointer) -- would be called Fun( somevariable )

you can modify what Pointer references to, however in this case you cannot access anything beyond what Pointer references to.

ASP.NET Core 1.0 on IIS error 502.5

I had a similar issue (Asp.Net Core 2.x) that was caused by trying to run a 32-bit asp.net core app in IIS on a 64-bit windows server. The root cause was that the web.config that is auto-generated (if your project does not explicitly include one, which asp.net core projects do not by default) does not contain the full path to the dotnet executable. When you install the hosting bundle on a 64 bit machine it will install the 64 and 32 bit versions of dotnet, but the path will resolve by default to 64 bit and your 32 bit asp.net core app will fail to load. In your browser you may see a 502.5 error and if you look the server event log you might see error code 0x80004005. If you try to run dotnet.exe from a command prompt to load your asp.net core application dll on that server you may see an error like "BadImageFormatException" or "attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format". The fix that worked for me was to add a web.config to my project (and deployment) and in that web.config set the full path to the 32-bit version of dotnet.exe.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
    <location path="." inheritInChildApplications="false">
        <system.webServer>
            <handlers>
                <add name="aspNetCore" path="*" verb="*" modules="AspNetCoreModule" resourceType="Unspecified" />
            </handlers>
            <aspNetCore processPath="C:\Program Files (x86)\dotnet\dotnet.exe" arguments=".\My32BitAspNetCoreApp.dll" stdoutLogEnabled="false" stdoutLogFile=".\logs\stdout" />
       </system.webServer>
   </location>
</configuration>

How do you perform address validation?

For us-based address data my company has used GeoStan. It has bindings for C and Java (and we created a Perl binding). Note that it is a commercial product and isn't cheap. It is quite fast though (~300 addresses per second) and offers features like CASS certification (USPS bulk mail discount), DPV (Delivery point verification) flagging, and LON/LAT geocoding.

There is a Perl module Geo::PostalAddress, but it uses heuristics and doesn't have the other features mentioned for GeoStan.

Edit: some have mentioned 'doing it yourself', if you do decide to do this, a good source of information to start with is the US Census Tiger Data Set, which contains a lot of information about the US including address information.

cannot convert data (type interface {}) to type string: need type assertion

According to the Go specification:

For an expression x of interface type and a type T, the primary expression x.(T) asserts that x is not nil and that the value stored in x is of type T.

A "type assertion" allows you to declare an interface value contains a certain concrete type or that its concrete type satisfies another interface.

In your example, you were asserting data (type interface{}) has the concrete type string. If you are wrong, the program will panic at runtime. You do not need to worry about efficiency, checking just requires comparing two pointer values.

If you were unsure if it was a string or not, you could test using the two return syntax.

str, ok := data.(string)

If data is not a string, ok will be false. It is then common to wrap such a statement into an if statement like so:

if str, ok := data.(string); ok {
    /* act on str */
} else {
    /* not string */
}

Run cmd commands through Java

One way to run a process from a different directory to the working directory of your Java program is to change directory and then run the process in the same command line. You can do this by getting cmd.exe to run a command line such as cd some_directory && some_program.

The following example changes to a different directory and runs dir from there. Admittedly, I could just dir that directory without needing to cd to it, but this is only an example:

import java.io.*;

public class CmdTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        ProcessBuilder builder = new ProcessBuilder(
            "cmd.exe", "/c", "cd \"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\" && dir");
        builder.redirectErrorStream(true);
        Process p = builder.start();
        BufferedReader r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
        String line;
        while (true) {
            line = r.readLine();
            if (line == null) { break; }
            System.out.println(line);
        }
    }
}

Note also that I'm using a ProcessBuilder to run the command. Amongst other things, this allows me to redirect the process's standard error into its standard output, by calling redirectErrorStream(true). Doing so gives me only one stream to read from.

This gives me the following output on my machine:

C:\Users\Luke\StackOverflow>java CmdTest

Raise error in a Bash script

Basic error handling

If your test case runner returns a non-zero code for failed tests, you can simply write:

test_handler test_case_x; test_result=$?
if ((test_result != 0)); then
  printf '%s\n' "Test case x failed" >&2 # write error message to stderr
  exit 1                                  # or exit $test_result
fi

Or even shorter:

if ! test_handler test_case_x; then
  printf '%s\n' "Test case x failed" >&2
  exit 1
fi

Or the shortest:

test_handler test_case_x || { printf '%s\n' "Test case x failed" >&2; exit 1; }

To exit with test_handler's exit code:

test_handler test_case_x || { ec=$?; printf '%s\n' "Test case x failed" >&2; exit $ec; }

Advanced error handling

If you want to take a more comprehensive approach, you can have an error handler:

exit_if_error() {
  local exit_code=$1
  shift
  [[ $exit_code ]] &&               # do nothing if no error code passed
    ((exit_code != 0)) && {         # do nothing if error code is 0
      printf 'ERROR: %s\n' "$@" >&2 # we can use better logging here
      exit "$exit_code" # we could also check to make sure
                                    # error code is numeric when passed
    }
}

then invoke it after running your test case:

run_test_case test_case_x
exit_if_error $? "Test case x failed"

or

run_test_case test_case_x || exit_if_error $? "Test case x failed"

The advantages of having an error handler like exit_if_error are:

  • we can standardize all the error handling logic such as logging, printing a stack trace, notification, doing cleanup etc., in one place
  • by making the error handler get the error code as an argument, we can spare the caller from the clutter of if blocks that test exit codes for errors
  • if we have a signal handler (using trap), we can invoke the error handler from there

Error handling and logging library

Here is a complete implementation of error handling and logging:

<strong> vs. font-weight:bold & <em> vs. font-style:italic

HTML represents meaning; CSS represents appearance. How you mark up text in a document is not determined by how that text appears on screen, but simply what it means. As another example, some other HTML elements, like headings, are styled font-weight: bold by default, but they are marked up using <h1><h6>, not <strong> or <b>.

In HTML5, you use <strong> to indicate important parts of a sentence, for example:

<p><strong>Do not touch.</strong> Contains <strong>hazardous</strong> materials.

And you use <em> to indicate linguistic stress, for example:

<p>A Gentleman: I suppose he does. But there's no point in asking.
<p>A Lady: Why not?
<p>A Gentleman: Because he doesn't row.
<p>A Lady: He doesn't <em>row</em>?
<p>A Gentleman: No. He <em>doesn't</em> row.
<p>A Lady: Ah. I see what you mean.

These elements are semantic elements that just happen to have bold and italic representations by default, but you can style them however you like. For example, in the <em> sample above, you could represent stress emphasis in uppercase instead of italics, but the functional purpose of the <em> element remains the same — to change the context of a sentence by emphasizing specific words or phrases over others:

em {
    font-style: normal;
    text-transform: uppercase;
}

Note that the original answer (below) applied to HTML standards prior to HTML5, in which <strong> and <em> had somewhat different meanings, <b> and <i> were purely presentational and had no semantic meaning whatsoever. Like <strong> and <em> respectively, they have similar presentational defaults but may be styled differently.

You use <strong> and <em> to indicate intense emphasis and normal emphasis respectively.

Or think of it this way: font-weight: bold is closer to <b> than <strong>, and font-style: italic is closer to <i> than <em>. These visual styles are purely visual: tools like screen readers aren't going to understand what bold and italic mean, but some screen readers are able to read <strong> and <em> text in a more emphasized tone.

What is a Sticky Broadcast?

sendStickyBroadcast() performs a sendBroadcast(Intent) known as sticky, i.e. the Intent you are sending stays around after the broadcast is complete, so that others can quickly retrieve that data through the return value of registerReceiver(BroadcastReceiver, IntentFilter). In all other ways, this behaves the same as sendBroadcast(Intent). One example of a sticky broadcast sent via the operating system is ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. When you call registerReceiver() for that action -- even with a null BroadcastReceiver -- you get the Intent that was last broadcast for that action. Hence, you can use this to find the state of the battery without necessarily registering for all future state changes in the battery.

For this test, at least, it looks like sed is slower than the tail approach (27 sec vs ~14 sec).

Principal Component Analysis (PCA) in Python

In addition to all the other answers, here is some code to plot the biplot using sklearn and matplotlib.

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from sklearn import datasets
from sklearn.decomposition import PCA
import pandas as pd
from sklearn.preprocessing import StandardScaler

iris = datasets.load_iris()
X = iris.data
y = iris.target
#In general a good idea is to scale the data
scaler = StandardScaler()
scaler.fit(X)
X=scaler.transform(X)

pca = PCA()
x_new = pca.fit_transform(X)

def myplot(score,coeff,labels=None):
    xs = score[:,0]
    ys = score[:,1]
    n = coeff.shape[0]
    scalex = 1.0/(xs.max() - xs.min())
    scaley = 1.0/(ys.max() - ys.min())
    plt.scatter(xs * scalex,ys * scaley, c = y)
    for i in range(n):
        plt.arrow(0, 0, coeff[i,0], coeff[i,1],color = 'r',alpha = 0.5)
        if labels is None:
            plt.text(coeff[i,0]* 1.15, coeff[i,1] * 1.15, "Var"+str(i+1), color = 'g', ha = 'center', va = 'center')
        else:
            plt.text(coeff[i,0]* 1.15, coeff[i,1] * 1.15, labels[i], color = 'g', ha = 'center', va = 'center')
plt.xlim(-1,1)
plt.ylim(-1,1)
plt.xlabel("PC{}".format(1))
plt.ylabel("PC{}".format(2))
plt.grid()

#Call the function. Use only the 2 PCs.
myplot(x_new[:,0:2],np.transpose(pca.components_[0:2, :]))

Displaying Windows command prompt output and redirecting it to a file

A simple C# console application would do the trick:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.IO;

namespace CopyToFiles
{
    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            var buffer = new char[100];
            var outputs = new List<TextWriter>();

            foreach (var file in args)
                outputs.Add(new StreamWriter(file));

            outputs.Add(Console.Out);

            int bytesRead;
            do
            {
                bytesRead = Console.In.ReadBlock(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
                outputs.ForEach(o => o.Write(buffer, 0, bytesRead));
            } while (bytesRead == buffer.Length);

            outputs.ForEach(o => o.Close());
        }
    }
}

To use this you just pipe the source command into the program and provide the path of any files you want to duplicate the output to. For example:

dir | CopyToFiles files1.txt files2.txt

Will display the results of dir as well as store the results in both files1.txt and files2.txt.

Note that there isn't much (anything!) in the way of error handling above, and supporting multiple files may not actually be required.

relative path in require_once doesn't work

In my case it doesn't work, even with __DIR__ or getcwd() it keeps picking the wrong path, I solved by defining a costant in every file I need with the absolute base path of the project:

if(!defined('THISBASEPATH')){ define('THISBASEPATH', '/mypath/'); }
require_once THISBASEPATH.'cache/crud.php';
/*every other require_once you need*/

I have MAMP with php 5.4.10 and my folder hierarchy is basilar:

q.php
w.php
e.php
r.php
cache/a.php
cache/b.php
setting/a.php
setting/b.php

What is "stdafx.h" used for in Visual Studio?

It's a "precompiled header file" -- any headers you include in stdafx.h are pre-processed to save time during subsequent compilations. You can read more about it here on MSDN.

If you're building a cross-platform application, check "Empty project" when creating your project and Visual Studio won't put any files at all in your project.

How to convert JSON string to array

your string should be in the following format:

$str = '{"action": "create","record": {"type": "n$product","fields": {"n$name": "Bread","n$price": 2.11},"namespaces": { "my.demo": "n" }}}';
$array = json_decode($str, true);

echo "<pre>";
print_r($array);

Output:

Array

jQuery: Check if special characters exists in string

You could also use the whitelist method -

var str = $('#Search').val();
var regex = /[^\w\s]/gi;

if(regex.test(str) == true) {
    alert('Your search string contains illegal characters.');
}

The regex in this example is digits, word characters, underscores (\w) and whitespace (\s). The caret (^) indicates that we are to look for everything that is not in our regex, so look for things that are not word characters, underscores, digits and whitespace.

Best way to integrate Python and JavaScript?

Solving "The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection" InvalidOperationException

By default Entity Framework uses lazy-loading for navigation properties. That's why these properties should be marked as virtual - EF creates proxy class for your entity and overrides navigation properties to allow lazy-loading. E.g. if you have this entity:

public class MemberLoan
{
   public string LoandProviderCode { get; set; }
   public virtual Membership Membership { get; set; }
}

Entity Framework will return proxy inherited from this entity and provide DbContext instance to this proxy in order to allow lazy loading of membership later:

public class MemberLoanProxy : MemberLoan
{
    private CosisEntities db;
    private int membershipId;
    private Membership membership;

    public override Membership Membership
    {
       get
       {
          if (membership == null)
              membership = db.Memberships.Find(membershipId);
          return membership;
       }
       set { membership = value; }
    }
}

So, entity has instance of DbContext which was used for loading entity. That's your problem. You have using block around CosisEntities usage. Which disposes context before entities are returned. When some code later tries to use lazy-loaded navigation property, it fails, because context is disposed at that moment.

To fix this behavior you can use eager loading of navigation properties which you will need later:

IQueryable<MemberLoan> query = db.MemberLoans.Include(m => m.Membership);

That will pre-load all memberships and lazy-loading will not be used. For details see Loading Related Entities article on MSDN.

How to make MySQL handle UTF-8 properly

To change the character set encoding to UTF-8 for the database itself, type the following command at the mysql> prompt. USE ALTER DATABASE.. Replace DBNAME with the database name:

This is a duplicate of this question How to convert an entire MySQL database characterset and collation to UTF-8?

MongoDB Show all contents from all collections

var collections = db.getCollectionNames();
for(var i = 0; i< collections.length; i++){

}

I think this script might get what you want. It prints the name of each collection and then prints its elements in json.

How do I trim whitespace from a string?

def remove_outer_spaces(text, num_of_leading, num_of_trailing):
    text = list(text)
    for i in range(num_of_leading):
        if text[i] == " ":
            text[i] = ""
        else:
            break

    for i in range(1, num_of_trailing+1):
        if text[-i] == " ":
            text[-i] = ""
        else:
            break
    return ''.join(text)

txt1 = "   MY name is     "
print(remove_outer_spaces(txt1, 1, 1))  # result is: "  MY name is    "
print(remove_outer_spaces(txt1, 2, 3))  # result is: " MY name is  "
print(remove_outer_spaces(txt1, 6, 8))  # result is: "MY name is"

Should I use 'has_key()' or 'in' on Python dicts?

in wins hands-down, not just in elegance (and not being deprecated;-) but also in performance, e.g.:

$ python -mtimeit -s'd=dict.fromkeys(range(99))' '12 in d'
10000000 loops, best of 3: 0.0983 usec per loop
$ python -mtimeit -s'd=dict.fromkeys(range(99))' 'd.has_key(12)'
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.21 usec per loop

While the following observation is not always true, you'll notice that usually, in Python, the faster solution is more elegant and Pythonic; that's why -mtimeit is SO helpful -- it's not just about saving a hundred nanoseconds here and there!-)

PowerShell: Format-Table without headers

Another approach is to use ForEach-Object to project individual items to a string and then use the Out-String CmdLet to project the final results to a string or string array:

gci Microsoft.PowerShell.Core\Registry::HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID | foreach { "CID Key {0}" -f $_.Name } | Out-String

#Result: One multi-line string equal to:
@"
CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\2a621c8a-7d4b-4d7b-ad60-a957fd70b0d0
CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\2ec6f5b2-8cdc-461e-9157-ffa84c11ba7d
CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\5da2ceaf-bc35-46e0-aabd-bd826023359b
CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\d13ad82e-d4fb-495f-9b78-01d2946e6426
"@

gci Microsoft.PowerShell.Core\Registry::HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID | foreach { "CID Key {0}" -f $_.Name } | Out-String -Stream

#Result: An array of single line strings equal to:
@(
"CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\2a621c8a-7d4b-4d7b-ad60-a957fd70b0d0",
"CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\2ec6f5b2-8cdc-461e-9157-ffa84c11ba7d",
"CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\5da2ceaf-bc35-46e0-aabd-bd826023359b",
"CID Key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CID\d13ad82e-d4fb-495f-9b78-01d2946e6426")

The benefit of this approach is that you can store the result to a variable and it will NOT have any empty lines.

How to run two jQuery animations simultaneously?

That would run simultaneously yes. what if you wanted to run two animations on the same element simultaneously ?

$(function () {
    $('#first').animate({ width: '200px' }, 200);
    $('#first').animate({ marginTop: '50px' }, 200);
});

This ends up queuing the animations. to get to run them simultaneously you would use only one line.

});

Is there any other way to run two different animation on the same element simultaneously ?

Special Note: 777 is a permission in Unix based system with full read/write/execute permission to owner, group and everyone. In general we give this permission to assets which are not much needed to be hidden from public on a web server. Example: images folder.

How to change the ROOT application?

Ultimate way to change tomcat root application. Tested on Tomcat 7 and 8.

  1. Move to the tomcat webapps directory:

    Example on my machine: ~/stack/apache-tomcat/webapps

  2. Rename, replace or delete ROOT folder. My advice is renaming or create a copy for backup. Example rename ROOT to RENAMED_ROOT:

    mv ROOT RENAMED_ROOT

  3. Move war file with your application to tomcat webapps directory (its a directory where was old ROOT folder, on my machine: ~/stack/apache-tomcat/webapps)

War file must have a name ROOT.war. Rename your aplication if it's need: yourApplicationName.war -> ROOT.war

  1. Restart tomcat. After restart your application will be a root.

I'm getting the "missing a using directive or assembly reference" and no clue what's going wrong

Your using statements appear to be correct.

Are you, perhaps, missing the assembly reference to System.configuration.dll?

Right click the "References" folder in your project and click on "Add Reference..."

Not really, Sorry! But...

Adding begin and end.. with a comment on the begin creates regions which would look like this...bit of hack though!

Otherwise you can only expand and collapse you just can't dictate what should be expanded and collapsed. Not without a third-party tool such as SSMS Tools Pack.

PHP check whether property exists in object or class

To check if the property exists and if it's null too, you can use the function property_exists().

Docs: http://php.net/manual/en/function.property-exists.php

As opposed with isset(), property_exists() returns TRUE even if the property has the value NULL.

bool property_exists ( mixed $class , string $property )

Example:

if (property_exists($testObject, $property)) {
    //do something
}

How to install xgboost in Anaconda Python (Windows platform)?

Anaconda's website addresses this problem here: https://anaconda.org/anaconda/py-xgboost.

conda install -c anaconda py-xgboost

This fixed the problem for me with no problems.

Compare two data.frames to find the rows in data.frame 1 that are not present in data.frame 2

This doesn't answer your question directly, but it will give you the elements that are in common. This can be done with Paul Murrell's package compare:

library(compare)
a1 <- data.frame(a = 1:5, b = letters[1:5])
a2 <- data.frame(a = 1:3, b = letters[1:3])
comparison <- compare(a1,a2,allowAll=TRUE)
comparison$tM
#  a b
#1 1 a
#2 2 b
#3 3 c

The function compare gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of what kind of comparisons are allowed (e.g. changing order of elements of each vector, changing order and names of variables, shortening variables, changing case of strings). From this, you should be able to figure out what was missing from one or the other. For example (this is not very elegant):

difference <-
   data.frame(lapply(1:ncol(a1),function(i)setdiff(a1[,i],comparison$tM[,i])))
colnames(difference) <- colnames(a1)
difference
#  a b
#1 4 d
#2 5 e

How to get a key in a JavaScript object by its value?

I use this function:

Object.prototype.getKey = function(value){
  for(var key in this){
    if(this[key] == value){
      return key;
    }
  }
  return null;
};

Usage:

// ISO 639: 2-letter codes
var languageCodes = {
  DA: 'Danish',
  DE: 'German',
  DZ: 'Bhutani',
  EL: 'Greek',
  EN: 'English',
  EO: 'Esperanto',
  ES: 'Spanish'
};

var key = languageCodes.getKey('Greek');
console.log(key); // EL

How to save a plot into a PDF file without a large margin around

Axes sizing in MATLAB can be a bit tricky sometimes. You are correct to suspect the paper sizing properties as one part of the problem. Another is the automatic margins MATLAB calculates. Fortunately, there are settable axes properties that allow you to circumvent these margins. You can reset the margins to be just big enough for axis labels using a combination of the Position and TightInset properties which are explained here. Try this:

>> h = figure;
>> axes;
>> set(h, 'InvertHardcopy', 'off');
>> saveas(h, 'WithMargins.pdf');

and you'll get a PDF that looks like: MATLAB plot with auto-margins but now do this:

>> tightInset = get(gca, 'TightInset');
>> position(1) = tightInset(1);
>> position(2) = tightInset(2);
>> position(3) = 1 - tightInset(1) - tightInset(3);
>> position(4) = 1 - tightInset(2) - tightInset(4);
>> set(gca, 'Position', position);
>> saveas(h, 'WithoutMargins.pdf');

and you'll get: MATLAB plot with auto-margins removed

Is there a way to get a list of column names in sqlite?

Another way of using pragma:

How to replace a substring of a string

By regex i think this is java, the method replaceAll() returns a new String with the substrings replaced, so try this:

String teste = "abcd=0; efgh=1";

String teste2 = teste.replaceAll("abcd", "dddd");

System.out.println(teste2);

Output:

dddd=0; efgh=1

Interactive shell using Docker Compose

You can do docker-compose exec SERVICE_NAME sh on the command line. The SERVICE_NAME is defined in your docker-compose.yml. For example,

services:
    zookeeper:
        image: wurstmeister/zookeeper
        ports:
          - "2181:2181"

The SERVICE_NAME would be "zookeeper".

Java method: Finding object in array list given a known attribute value

To improve performance of the operation, if you're always going to want to look up objects by some unique identifier, then you might consider using a Map<Integer,Dog>. This will provide constant-time lookup by key. You can still iterate over the objects themselves using the map values().

A quick code fragment to get you started:

// Populate the map
Map<Integer,Dog> dogs = new HashMap<Integer,Dog>();
for( Dog dog : /* dog source */ ) {
    dogs.put( dog.getId(), dog );
}

// Perform a lookup
Dog dog = dogs.get( id );

This will help speed things up a bit if you're performing multiple lookups of the same nature on the list. If you're just doing the one lookup, then you're going to incur the same loop overhead regardless.

How to convert a string to an integer in JavaScript?

In my opinion, no answer covers all edge cases as parsing a float should result in an error.

function parseInteger(value) {
    if(value === '') return NaN;
    const number = Number(value);
    return Number.isInteger(number) ? number : NaN;
}
parseInteger("4")            // 4
parseInteger("5aaa")         // NaN
parseInteger("4.33333")      // NaN
parseInteger("aaa");         // NaN

Rotate axis text in python matplotlib

Try pyplot.setp. I think you could do something like this:

plt.setp(labels, rotation=90)
plt.plot(x, delay)

C++ -- expected primary-expression before ' '

initializing a boolean array in java

Arrays in Java start indexing at 0. So in your example you are referring to an element that is outside the array by one.

It should probably be something like freq[Global.iParameter[2]-1]=false;

You would need to loop through the array to initialize all of it, this line only initializes the last element.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that false is default for booleans in Java, so you might not need to initialize at all.

How can I get the session object if I have the entity-manager?

To be totally exhaustive, things are different if you're using a JPA 1.0 or a JPA 2.0 implementation.

JPA 1.0

With JPA 1.0, you'd have to use EntityManager#getDelegate(). But keep in mind that the result of this method is implementation specific i.e. non portable from application server using Hibernate to the other. For example with JBoss you would do:

org.hibernate.Session session = (Session) manager.getDelegate();

But with GlassFish, you'd have to do:

org.hibernate.Session session = ((org.hibernate.ejb.EntityManagerImpl) em.getDelegate()).getSession();

I agree, that's horrible, and the spec is to blame here (not clear enough).

JPA 2.0

With JPA 2.0, there is a new (and much better) EntityManager#unwrap(Class<T>) method that is to be preferred over EntityManager#getDelegate() for new applications.

So with Hibernate as JPA 2.0 implementation (see 3.15. Native Hibernate API), you would do:

Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);

BULK INSERT with identity (auto-increment) column

My solution is to add the ID field as the LAST field in the table, thus bulk insert ignores it and it gets automatic values. Clean and simple ...

For instance, if inserting into a temp table:

CREATE TABLE #TempTable
(field1 varchar(max), field2 varchar(max), ...
ROW_ID int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL)

Note that the ROW_ID field MUST always be specified as LAST field!

val() vs. text() for textarea

The best way to set/get the value of a textarea is the .val(), .value method.

.text() internally uses the .textContent (or .innerText for IE) method to get the contents of a <textarea>. The following test cases illustrate how text() and .val() relate to each other:

var t = '<textarea>';
console.log($(t).text('test').val());             // Prints test
console.log($(t).val('too').text('test').val());  // Prints too
console.log($(t).val('too').text());              // Prints nothing
console.log($(t).text('test').val('too').val());  // Prints too

console.log($(t).text('test').val('too').text()); // Prints test

The value property, used by .val() always shows the current visible value, whereas text()'s return value can be wrong.

Nested JSON objects - do I have to use arrays for everything?

You have too many redundant nested arrays inside your jSON data, but it is possible to retrieve the information. Though like others have said you might want to clean it up.

        $.each(w, function (index2, x) {
            alert(x.id);
        });
    });

});

Why does the 260 character path length limit exist in Windows?

C non-blocking keyboard input

Here's a function to do this for you. You need termios.h which comes with POSIX systems.

#include <termios.h>
void stdin_set(int cmd)
{
    struct termios t;
    tcgetattr(1,&t);
    switch (cmd) {
    case 1:
            t.c_lflag &= ~ICANON;
            break;
    default:
            t.c_lflag |= ICANON;
            break;
    }
    tcsetattr(1,0,&t);
}

Breaking this down: tcgetattr gets the current terminal information and stores it in t. If cmd is 1, the local input flag in t is set to non-blocking input. Otherwise it is reset. Then tcsetattr changes standard input to t.

If you don't reset standard input at the end of your program you will have problems in your shell.

        }

        AssetFileDescriptor descriptor = getAssets().openFd("beepbeep.mp3");
        m.setDataSource(descriptor.getFileDescriptor(), descriptor.getStartOffset(), descriptor.getLength());
        descriptor.close();

        m.prepare();
        m.setVolume(1f, 1f);
        m.setLooping(true);
        m.start();
    } catch (Exception e) {
        e.printStackTrace();

How do I run a batch script from within a batch script?

You can just invoke the batch script by name, as if you're running on the command line.

So, suppose you have a file bar.bat that says echo This is bar.bat! and you want to call it from a file foo.bat, you can write this in foo.bat:

if "%1"=="blah" bar

Run foo blah from the command line, and you'll see:

C:\>foo blah

C:\>if "blah" == "blah" bar

C:\>echo This is bar.bat!
This is bar.bat!

But beware: When you invoke a batch script from another batch script, the original batch script will stop running. If you want to run the secondary batch script and then return to the previous batch script, you'll have to use the call command. For example:

if "%1"=="blah" call bar
echo That's all for foo.bat!

If you run foo blah on that, you'd see:

C:\>foo blah

C:\>if "blah" == "blah" call bar

C:\>echo This is bar.bat!
This is bar.bat!

C:\>echo That's all for foo.bat!
That's all for foo.bat!

Windows Scheduled task succeeds but returns result 0x1

For Powershell scripts

I have seen this problem multiple times while scheduling Powershell scripts with parameters on multiple Windows servers. The solution has always been to use the -File parameter:

  1. Under "Actions" --> "Program / Script" Type: "Powershell"
  2. Under "Add arguments", instead of just typeing "C:/script/test.ps1" use -File "C:/script/test.ps1"

Happy scheduling!

Postgres where clause compare timestamp

Assuming you actually mean timestamp because there is no datetime in Postgres

Cast the timestamp column to a date, that will remove the time part:

select *
from the_table
where the_timestamp_column::date = date '2015-07-15';

This will return all rows from July, 15th.

Note that the above will not use an index on the_timestamp_column. If performance is critical, you need to either create an index on that expression or use a range condition:

select *
from the_table
where the_timestamp_column >= timestamp '2015-07-15 00:00:00'
  and the_timestamp_column < timestamp '2015-07-16 00:00:00';

Spring can you autowire inside an abstract class?

Normally, Spring should do the autowiring, as long as your abstract class is in the base-package provided for component scan.

See this and this for further reference.

@Service and @Component are both stereotypes that creates beans of the annotated type inside the Spring container. As Spring Docs state,

This annotation serves as a specialization of @Component, allowing for implementation classes to be autodetected through classpath scanning.

What is the difference between Forking and Cloning on GitHub?

  • Forked project is on your online repository (repo).
  • Cloned project is on your local machine (I usually clone after forking the repo).

You can commit on your online repo (or commit on your local repo and then push to your online repo), then send pull request.

Project manager can accept it to get your changes in his main online version.

grep for special characters in Unix

Try vi with the -b option, this will show special end of line characters (I typically use it to see windows line endings in a txt file on a unix OS)

But if you want a scripted solution obviously vi wont work so you can try the -f or -e options with grep and pipe the result into sed or awk. From grep man page:

Matcher Selection -E, --extended-regexp Interpret PATTERN as an extended regular expression (ERE, see below). (-E is specified by POSIX.)

   -F, --fixed-strings
          Interpret PATTERN as a list of fixed strings, separated by newlines, any of which is to be matched. (-F is specified
          by POSIX.)

Oracle "SQL Error: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 1"

I think its related with jdbc.

I have a similar problem (missing param) when I have a where condition like this:

a = :namedparameter and b = :namedparameter

It's ok, When I have like this:

a = :namedparameter and b = :namedparameter2 (the two param has the same value)

So it's a problem with named parameters. I think there is a bug around named parameter handling, it looks like if only the first parameter get the right value, the second is not set by driver classes. Maybe its not a bug, only I don't know something, but anyway I guess that's the reason for the difference between the SQL dev and the sqlplus running for you, because as far as I know SQL developer uses jdbc driver.

PHP: How to use array_filter() to filter array keys?

How to get the current key of an array when using array_filter

Regardless of how I like Vincent's solution for Macek's problem, it doesn't actually use array_filter. If you came here from a search engine you maybe where looking for something like this (PHP >= 5.3):

$array = ['apple' => 'red', 'pear' => 'green'];
reset($array); // Unimportant here, but make sure your array is reset

$apples = array_filter($array, function($color) use ($&array) {
  $key = key($array);
  next($array); // advance array pointer

  return key($array) === 'apple';
}

It passes the array you're filtering as a reference to the callback. As array_filter doesn't conventionally iterate over the array by increasing it's public internal pointer you have to advance it by yourself.

What's important here is that you need to make sure your array is reset, otherwise you might start right in the middle of it.

In PHP >= 5.4 you could make the callback even shorter:

$apples = array_filter($array, function($color) use ($&array) {
  return each($array)['key'] === 'apple';
}

Firebase Permission Denied

Another solution is to actually create or login the user automatically if you already have the credentials handy. Here is how I do it using Plain JS.

function loginToFirebase(callback)
{
    let email = '[email protected]';
    let password = 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxx';
    let config =
    {
        apiKey: "xxx",
        authDomain: "xxxxx.firebaseapp.com",
        projectId: "xxx-xxx",
        databaseURL: "https://xxx-xxx.firebaseio.com",
        storageBucket: "gs://xx-xx.appspot.com",
    };

    if (!firebase.apps.length)
    {
        firebase.initializeApp(config);
    }

    let database = firebase.database();
    let storage = firebase.storage();

Syntax for creating a two-dimensional array in Java

You can create them just the way others have mentioned. One more point to add: You can even create a skewed two-dimensional array with each row, not necessarily having the same number of collumns, like this:

int array[][] = new int[3][];
array[0] = new int[3];
array[1] = new int[2];
array[2] = new int[5];

How to place a div below another div?

what about changing the position: relative on your #content #text div to position: absolute

#content #text {
   position:absolute;
   width:950px;
   height:215px;
   color:red;
}

http://jsfiddle.net/CaZY7/12/

then you can use the css properties left and top to position within the #content div

How do you load custom UITableViewCells from Xib files?

Loading UITableViewCells from XIBs saves a lot of code, but usually results in horrible scrolling speed (actually, it's not the XIB but the excessive use of UIViews that cause this).

Naming Classes - How to avoid calling everything a "<WhatEver>Manager"?

I'd consider the patterns you are using for your system, the naming conventions / cataloguing / grouping of classes of tends to be defined by the pattern used. Personally, I stick to these naming conventions as they are the most likely way for another person to be able to pick up my code and run with it.

For example UserRecordsClerk might be better explained as extending a generic RecordsClerk interface that both UserRecordsClerk and CompanyRecordsClerk implement and then specialise on, meaning one can look at the methods in the interface to see what the its subclasses do / are generally for.

See a book such as Design Patterns for info, it's an excellent book and might help you clear up where you're aiming to be with your code - if you aren't already using it! ;o)

I reckon so long as your pattern is well chosen and used as far as is appropriate, then pretty uninventive straightforward class names should suffice!

how to convert a string to date in mysql?

As was told at MySQL Using a string column with date text as a date field, you can do

SELECT  STR_TO_DATE(yourdatefield, '%m/%d/%Y')
FROM    yourtable

You can also handle these date strings in WHERE clauses. For example

SELECT whatever
  FROM yourtable
 WHERE STR_TO_DATE(yourdatefield, '%m/%d/%Y') > CURDATE() - INTERVAL 7 DAY

You can handle all kinds of date/time layouts this way. Please refer to the format specifiers for the DATE_FORMAT() function to see what you can put into the second parameter of STR_TO_DATE().

JavaScript: Create and destroy class instance through class method

No. JavaScript is automatically garbage collected; the object's memory will be reclaimed only if the GC decides to run and the object is eligible for collection.

Seeing as that will happen automatically as required, what would be the purpose of reclaiming the memory explicitly?

What is the OR operator in an IF statement

In the format for if

if (this OR that)

this and that are expression not values. title == "aaaaa" is a valid expression. Also OR is not a valid construct in C#, you have to use ||.

Moment.js - tomorrow, today and yesterday

Requirements:

  • When the date is further away, use the standard moment().fromNow() functionality.
  • When the date is closer, show "today", "yesterday", "tomorrow", etc.

Solution:

// call this function, passing-in your date
function dateToFromNowDaily( myDate ) {

    // get from-now for this date
    var fromNow = moment( myDate ).fromNow();

    // ensure the date is displayed with today and yesterday
    return moment( myDate ).calendar( null, {
        // when the date is closer, specify custom values
        lastWeek: '[Last] dddd',
        lastDay:  '[Yesterday]',
        sameDay:  '[Today]',
        nextDay:  '[Tomorrow]',
        nextWeek: 'dddd',
        // when the date is further away, use from-now functionality
        sameElse: function () {
            return "[" + fromNow + "]";
        }
    });
}

NB: From version 2.14.0, the formats argument to the calendar function can be a callback, see http://momentjs.com/docs/#/displaying/calendar-time/.

How do I check how many options there are in a dropdown menu?

Get the number of options in a particular select element

How can I find a specific file from a Linux terminal?

Solution: Use unix command find

The find utility recursively descends the directory tree for each path listed, evaluating an expression (composed of the 'primaries' and 'operands') in terms of each file in the tree.

  • You can make the find action be more efficient and smart by controlling it with regular expressions queries, file types, size thresholds, depths dimensions in subtree, groups, ownership, timestamps , modification/creation date and more.
  • In addition you can use operators and combine find requests such as or/not/and etc...

The Traditional Formula would be :

find <path> -flag <valueOfFlag>

Easy Examples

1.Find by Name - Find all package.json from my current location subtree hierarchy.

find . -name "package.json"

2.Find by Name and Type - find all node_modules directories from ALL file system (starting from root hierarchy )

sudo find / -name "node_modules" -type d

Complex Examples:

More Useful examples which can demonstrate the power of flag options and operators:

3.Regex and File Type - Find all javascript controllers variation names (using regex) javascript Files only in my app location.

find /user/dev/app -name "*contoller-*\.js" -type f

-type f means file -name related to regular expression to any variation of controller string and dash with .js at the end

4.Depth - Find all routes patterns directories in app directory no more than 3 dimensions ( app/../../.. only and no more deeper)

find app -name "*route*" -type d -maxdepth 3

-type d means directory -name related to regular expression to any variation of route string -maxdepth making the finder focusing on 3 subtree depth and no more <yourSearchlocation>/depth1/depth2/depth3)

5.File Size , Ownership and OR Operator - Find all files with names 'sample' or 'test' under ownership of root user that greater than 1 Mega and less than 5 Mega.

find . \( -name "test" -or -name "sample" \) -user root -size +1M -size -5M

-size threshold representing the range between more than (+) and less than (-) -user representing the file owner -or operator filters query for both regex matches

6.Empty Files - find all empty directories in file system

find / -type d -empty

7.Time Access, Modification and creation of files - find all files that were created/modified/access in directory in 10 days

# creation (c)
find /test -name "*.groovy" -ctime -10d
# modification (m)
find /test -name "*.java" -mtime -10d
# access (a)
find /test -name "*.js" -atime -10d

8.Modification Size Filter - find all files that were modified exactly between a week ago to 3 weeks ago and less than 500kb and present their sizes as a list

find /test -name "*.java" -mtime -3w -mtime +1w -size -500k | xargs du -h

How to submit a form using Enter key in react.js?

I've built up on @user1032613's answer and on this answer and created a "on press enter click element with querystring" hook. enjoy!

const { useEffect } = require("react");

const useEnterKeyListener = ({ querySelectorToExecuteClick }) => {
    useEffect(() => {
        //https://stackoverflow.com/a/59147255/828184
        const listener = (event) => {
            if (event.code === "Enter" || event.code === "NumpadEnter") {
                handlePressEnter();
            }
        };

        document.addEventListener("keydown", listener);

        return () => {
            document.removeEventListener("keydown", listener);
        };
    }, []);

    const handlePressEnter = () => {
        //https://stackoverflow.com/a/54316368/828184
        const mouseClickEvents = ["mousedown", "click", "mouseup"];
        function simulateMouseClick(element) {
            mouseClickEvents.forEach((mouseEventType) =>
                element.dispatchEvent(
                    new MouseEvent(mouseEventType, {
                        view: window,
                        bubbles: true,
                        cancelable: true,
                        buttons: 1,
                    })
                )
            );
        }

        var element = document.querySelector(querySelectorToExecuteClick);
        simulateMouseClick(element);
    };
};

export default useEnterKeyListener;

This is how you use it:

useEnterKeyListener({
    querySelectorToExecuteClick: "#submitButton",
});

Cannot use string offset as an array in php

I was fighting a similar problem, so documenting here in case useful.

In a __get() method I was using the given argument as a property, as in (simplified example):

function __get($prop) {
     return $this->$prop;
}

...i.e. $obj->fred would access the private/protected fred property of the class.

I found that when I needed to reference an array structure within this property it generated the Cannot use String offset as array error. Here's what I did wrong and how to correct it:

function __get($prop) {
     // this is wrong, generates the error
     return $this->$prop['some key'][0];
}

function __get($prop) {
     // this is correct
     $ref = & $this->$prop;
     return $ref['some key'][0];
}

Explanation: in the wrong example, php is interpreting ['some key'] as a key to $prop (a string), whereas we need it to dereference $prop in place. In Perl you could do this by specifying with {} but I don't think this is possible in PHP.

Unable to find velocity template resources

Great question - I solved my issue today as follows using Ecilpse:

  1. Put your template in the same folder hierarchy as your source code (not in a separate folder hierarchy even if you include it in the build path) as below: Where to put your template file

  2. In your code simply use the following lines of code (assuming you just want the date to be passed as data):

    VelocityEngine ve = new VelocityEngine();
    ve.setProperty(RuntimeConstants.RESOURCE_LOADER, "classpath");
    ve.setProperty("classpath.resource.loader.class", ClasspathResourceLoader.class.getName());
    ve.init();
    VelocityContext context = new VelocityContext();
    context.put("date", getMyTimestampFunction());
    Template t = ve.getTemplate( "templates/email_html_new.vm" );
    StringWriter writer = new StringWriter();
    t.merge( context, writer );

See how first we tell VelocityEngine to look in the classpath. Without this it wouldn't know where to look.

How to have EditText with border in Android Lollipop

Write editTextBackground.xml in drawable folder in resources

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <stroke
        android:width="1dp"
        android:color="@color/borderColor" />
</shape>

don't forget to declare color in resources named borderColor.

and assign this background to the EditText in xml background attribute

<EditText
    android:id="@+id/text"
    android:background="@drawable/editTextBackground"
    />

and it'll set border to EditText.

UPDATE

You can change border of edit text without drawable by using style attribute

style="@style/Widget.AppCompat.EditText"

Get last field using awk substr

Use the fact that awk splits the lines in fields based on a field separator, that you can define. Hence, defining the field separator to / you can say:

awk -F "/" '{print $NF}' input

as NF refers to the number of fields of the current record, printing $NF means printing the last one.

So given a file like this:

/home/parent/child1/child2/child3/filename
/home/parent/child1/child2/filename
/home/parent/child1/filename

This would be the output:

$ awk -F"/" '{print $NF}' file
filename
filename
filename

Better way of getting time in milliseconds in javascript?

I know this is a pretty old thread, but to keep things up to date and more relevant, you can use the more accurate performance.now() functionality to get finer grain timing in javascript.

window.performance = window.performance || {};
performance.now = (function() {
    return performance.now       ||
        performance.mozNow    ||
        performance.msNow     ||
        performance.oNow      ||
        performance.webkitNow ||
        Date.now  /*none found - fallback to browser default */
})();

Progress during large file copy (Copy-Item & Write-Progress?)

I amended the code from stej (which was great, just what i needed!) to use larger buffer, [long] for larger files and used System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch class to track elapsed time and estimate time remaining.

Also added reporting of transfer rate during transfer and outputting overall elapsed time and overall transfer rate.

Using 4MB (4096*1024 bytes) buffer to get better than Win7 native throughput copying from NAS to USB stick on laptop over wifi.

On To-Do list:

  • add error handling (catch)
  • handle get-childitem file list as input
  • nested progress bars when copying multiple files (file x of y, % if total data copied etc)
  • input parameter for buffer size

Feel free to use/improve :-)

Rails 4 - passing variable to partial

Don't use locals in Rails 4.2+

In Rails 4.2 I had to remove the locals part and just use size: 30 instead. Otherwise, it wouldn't pass the local variable correctly.

For example, use this:

<%= render @users, size: 30 %>

What is the maximum length of a URL in different browsers?

WWW FAQs: What is the maximum length of a URL? has its own answer based on empirical testing and research. The short answer is that going over 2048 characters makes Internet Explorer unhappy and thus this is the limit you should use. See the page for a long answer.
