Programs & Examples On #Jdwp

The Java Debug Wire Protocol (JDWP) is the protocol used for communication between a debugger and the Java virtual machine (VM).

Unable to open debugger port in IntelliJ

I once have this problem too. My solution is to work around this problem by kill the application which is using the port. Here is a article to teach us how to check which application is using which port, find it and kill/close it.

FATAL ERROR in native method: JDWP No transports initialized, jvmtiError=AGENT_ERROR_TRANSPORT_INIT(197)

Encountered this. all I did was to kill all the java process(Task Manager) and run again. It worked!

Android app unable to start activity componentinfo

The question is answered already, but I want add more information about the causes.

Android app unable to start activity componentinfo

This error often comes with appropriate logs. You can read logs and can solve this issue easily.

Here is a sample log. In which you can see clearly ClassCastException. So this issue came because TextView cannot be cast to EditText.

Some Common Mistakes.

1.findViewById() of non existing view

Like when you use findViewById(R.id.button) when button id does not exist in layout XML.

2. Wrong cast.

If you wrong cast some class, then you get this error. Like you cast RelativeLayout to LinearLayout or EditText to TextView.

3. Activity not registered in manifest.xml

If you did not register Activity in manifest.xml then this error comes.

4. findViewById() with declaration at top level

Below code is incorrect. This will create error. Because you should do findViewById() after calling setContentView(). Because an View can be there after it is created.

public class MainActivity extends Activity {

  ImageView mainImage = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageViewMain); //incorrect way

  @Override
  protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
    mainImage = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageViewMain); //correct way
    //...
  }
}

5. Starting abstract Activity class.

When you try to start an Activity which is abstract, you will will get this error. So just remove abstract keyword before activity class name.

6. Using kotlin but kotlin not configured.

If your activity is written in Kotlin and you have not setup kotlin in your app. then you will get error. You can follow simple steps as written in Android Link or Kotlin Link. You can check this answer too.

SOLUTION :-

  1. I was getting the same error as I was opening two eclipse window, so I close one eclipse window and run the app again. You will not get the error.

  2. restart(close and start) the eclipse again if you have open only one eclipse window.

Remote debugging Tomcat with Eclipse

I spent some time on this to get the right information.

So here is the detailed information step by step.

Environment : Windows 7

TomCat version : 7.0

IDE : Eclipse

Configurations to be added for enabling remote debugging with in tomcat is

-Xdebug
-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n

I don't recommend above configuration fro non windows environment. To add the above configuration double click on tomcat server which will be available in server view. Find the below screen shot. enter image description here

Now add the above runtime environment configuration to tomcat. For this check below screenshot.

enter image description here

Now got to Arugments tab in Edit launch configuration properties as show in below screen shot.

enter image description here

GoTo VM arguments section add these lines.

-Xdebug

-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n

enter image description here

Now got to debug button available on eclipse toolbar.

enter image description here

In Debug configurations find "Remote Java Application" and double click on it.enter image description here

In Name field enter any name which you like to.

From project field using browse button select the project which you want to perform remote debug.

The hostname is nothing but the host address. Here i'm working locally so it is "localhost".

Last the Port column the value should be 8000. Apart from Name and Project text fields other two columns Host and port will be filled by eclipse itself if not make you have same values as mentioned. Check Screen shot for info.enter image description here

Now right click on TomcatServer in server console select Add and Remove from context menu. From this dialog you can add the project to server.

Now run the Tomcat sever.

enter image description here

Now run the TomCatDebugConfiguration from Debug Tool.

Last open internal or external browser and run your project. If the execution control reached the break points then the eclipse will prompt for debug perspective.

Running java with JAVA_OPTS env variable has no effect

I don't know of any JVM that actually checks the JAVA_OPTS environment variable. Usually this is used in scripts which launch the JVM and they usually just add it to the java command-line.

The key thing to understand here is that arguments to java that come before the -jar analyse.jar bit will only affect the JVM and won't be passed along to your program. So, modifying the java line in your script to:

java $JAVA_OPTS -jar analyse.jar $*

Should "just work".

Remote debugging a Java application

I'd like to emphasize that order of arguments is important.

For me java -agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=8000 -jar app.jar command opens debugger port,

but java -jar app.jar -agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=8000 command doesn't.

Android - how do I investigate an ANR?

Basic on @Horyun Lee answer, I wrote a small python script to help to investigate ANR from traces.txt.

The ANRs will output as graphics by graphviz if you have installed grapvhviz on your system.

$ ./anr.py --format png ./traces.txt

A png will output like below if there are ANRs detected in file traces.txt. It's more intuitive.

The sample traces.txt file used above was get from here.

Sending XML data using HTTP POST with PHP

Another option would be file_get_contents():

// $xml_str = your xml
// $url = target url

$post_data = array('xml' => $xml_str);
$stream_options = array(
    'http' => array(
        'method'  => 'POST',
        'header'  => 'Content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded' . "\r\n",
        'content' =>  http_build_query($post_data)));

$context  = stream_context_create($stream_options);
$response = file_get_contents($url, null, $context);

When I run `npm install`, it returns with `ERR! code EINTEGRITY` (npm 5.3.0)

Easy and fast fix for me was to npm install the specific package on which it said the sha is wrong. Say your package is called awesome-package.

My solution was:

npm i awesome-package

This updated my sha within the package-lock.json.

What are the differences between git remote prune, git prune, git fetch --prune, etc

I don't blame you for getting frustrated about this. The best way to look at is this. There are potentially three versions of every remote branch:

  1. The actual branch on the remote repository
    (e.g., remote repo at https://example.com/repo.git, refs/heads/master)
  2. Your snapshot of that branch locally (stored under refs/remotes/...)
    (e.g., local repo, refs/remotes/origin/master)
  3. And a local branch that might be tracking the remote branch
    (e.g., local repo, refs/heads/master)

Let's start with git prune. This removes objects that are no longer being referenced, it does not remove references. In your case, you have a local branch. That means there's a ref named random_branch_I_want_deleted that refers to some objects that represent the history of that branch. So, by definition, git prune will not remove random_branch_I_want_deleted. Really, git prune is a way to delete data that has accumulated in Git but is not being referenced by anything. In general, it doesn't affect your view of any branches.

git remote prune origin and git fetch --prune both operate on references under refs/remotes/... (I'll refer to these as remote references). It doesn't affect local branches. The git remote version is useful if you only want to remove remote references under a particular remote. Otherwise, the two do exactly the same thing. So, in short, git remote prune and git fetch --prune operate on number 2 above. For example, if you deleted a branch using the git web GUI and don't want it to show up in your local branch list anymore (git branch -r), then this is the command you should use.

To remove a local branch, you should use git branch -d (or -D if it's not merged anywhere). FWIW, there is no git command to automatically remove the local tracking branches if a remote branch disappears.

How does one remove a Docker image?

For versions 1.13 and higher:

docker image rm [OPTIONS] IMAGE [IMAGE...]

Comparing:

the [OPTIONS] seem to have no difference.

--force , -f Force removal of the image
--no-prune Do not delete untagged parents

From: Introducing Docker 1.13

CLI restructured

In Docker 1.13, we regrouped every command to sit under the logical object it’s interacting with. For example list and start of containers are now subcommands of docker container and history is a subcommand of docker image.

These changes let us clean up the Docker CLI syntax, improve help text and make Docker simpler to use. The old command syntax is still supported, but we encourage everybody to adopt the new syntax.

How to convert string to char array in C++?

Ok, i am shocked that no one really gave a good answer, now my turn. There are two cases;

  1. A constant char array is good enough for you so you go with,

    const char *array = tmp.c_str();

  2. Or you need to modify the char array so constant is not ok, then just go with this

    char *array = &tmp[0];

Both of them are just assignment operations and most of the time that is just what you need, if you really need a new copy then follow other fellows answers.

Python def function: How do you specify the end of the function?

white spaces matter. when block is finished, that's when the function definition is finished.

when function runs, it keeps going until it finishes, or until return or yield statement is encountered. If function finishes without encountering return or yield statements None is returned implicitly.

there is plenty more information in the tutorial.

Filtering DataGridView without changing datasource

I developed a generic statement to apply the filter:

string rowFilter = string.Format("[{0}] = '{1}'", columnName, filterValue);

Additionally, if you want to include multiple values in your filter, you can add the following line for each additional value:

rowFilter += string.Format(" OR [{0}] = '{1}'", columnName, additionalFilterValue);

What's the difference between "app.render" and "res.render" in express.js?

along with these two variants, there is also jade.renderFile which generates html that need not be passed to the client.

usage-

var jade = require('jade');

exports.getJson = getJson;

function getJson(req, res) {
    var html = jade.renderFile('views/test.jade', {some:'json'});
    res.send({message: 'i sent json'});
}

getJson() is available as a route in app.js.

What are good ways to prevent SQL injection?

My answer is quite easy:

Use Entity Framework for communication between C# and your SQL database. That will make parameterized SQL strings that isn't vulnerable to SQL injection.

As a bonus, it's very easy to work with as well.

How Spring Security Filter Chain works

Spring security is a filter based framework, it plants a WALL(HttpFireWall) before your application in terms of proxy filters or spring managed beans. Your request has to pass through multiple filters to reach your API.

Sequence of execution in Spring Security

  1. WebAsyncManagerIntegrationFilter Provides integration between the SecurityContext and Spring Web's WebAsyncManager.

  2. SecurityContextPersistenceFilter This filter will only execute once per request, Populates the SecurityContextHolder with information obtained from the configured SecurityContextRepository prior to the request and stores it back in the repository once the request has completed and clearing the context holder.
    Request is checked for existing session. If new request, SecurityContext will be created else if request has session then existing security-context will be obtained from respository.

  3. HeaderWriterFilter Filter implementation to add headers to the current response.

  4. LogoutFilter If request url is /logout(for default configuration) or if request url mathces RequestMatcher configured in LogoutConfigurer then

    • clears security context.
    • invalidates the session
    • deletes all the cookies with cookie names configured in LogoutConfigurer
    • Redirects to default logout success url / or logout success url configured or invokes logoutSuccessHandler configured.
  5. UsernamePasswordAuthenticationFilter

    • For any request url other than loginProcessingUrl this filter will not process further but filter chain just continues.
    • If requested URL is matches(must be HTTP POST) default /login or matches .loginProcessingUrl() configured in FormLoginConfigurer then UsernamePasswordAuthenticationFilter attempts authentication.
    • default login form parameters are username and password, can be overridden by usernameParameter(String), passwordParameter(String).
    • setting .loginPage() overrides defaults
    • While attempting authentication
      • an Authentication object(UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken or any implementation of Authentication in case of your custom auth filter) is created.
      • and authenticationManager.authenticate(authToken) will be invoked
      • Note that we can configure any number of AuthenticationProvider authenticate method tries all auth providers and checks any of the auth provider supports authToken/authentication object, supporting auth provider will be used for authenticating. and returns Authentication object in case of successful authentication else throws AuthenticationException.
    • If authentication success session will be created and authenticationSuccessHandler will be invoked which redirects to the target url configured(default is /)
    • If authentication failed user becomes un-authenticated user and chain continues.
  6. SecurityContextHolderAwareRequestFilter, if you are using it to install a Spring Security aware HttpServletRequestWrapper into your servlet container

  7. AnonymousAuthenticationFilter Detects if there is no Authentication object in the SecurityContextHolder, if no authentication object found, creates Authentication object (AnonymousAuthenticationToken) with granted authority ROLE_ANONYMOUS. Here AnonymousAuthenticationToken facilitates identifying un-authenticated users subsequent requests.

Debug logs
DEBUG - /app/admin/app-config at position 9 of 12 in additional filter chain; firing Filter: 'AnonymousAuthenticationFilter'
DEBUG - Populated SecurityContextHolder with anonymous token: 'org.springframework.security.authentication.AnonymousAuthenticationToken@aeef7b36: Principal: anonymousUser; Credentials: [PROTECTED]; Authenticated: true; Details: org.springframework.security.web.authentication.WebAuthenticationDetails@b364: RemoteIpAddress: 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1; SessionId: null; Granted Authorities: ROLE_ANONYMOUS'
  1. ExceptionTranslationFilter, to catch any Spring Security exceptions so that either an HTTP error response can be returned or an appropriate AuthenticationEntryPoint can be launched

  2. FilterSecurityInterceptor
    There will be FilterSecurityInterceptor which comes almost last in the filter chain which gets Authentication object from SecurityContext and gets granted authorities list(roles granted) and it will make a decision whether to allow this request to reach the requested resource or not, decision is made by matching with the allowed AntMatchers configured in HttpSecurityConfiguration.

Consider the exceptions 401-UnAuthorized and 403-Forbidden. These decisions will be done at the last in the filter chain

  • Un authenticated user trying to access public resource - Allowed
  • Un authenticated user trying to access secured resource - 401-UnAuthorized
  • Authenticated user trying to access restricted resource(restricted for his role) - 403-Forbidden

Note: User Request flows not only in above mentioned filters, but there are others filters too not shown here.(ConcurrentSessionFilter,RequestCacheAwareFilter,SessionManagementFilter ...)
It will be different when you use your custom auth filter instead of UsernamePasswordAuthenticationFilter.
It will be different if you configure JWT auth filter and omit .formLogin() i.e, UsernamePasswordAuthenticationFilter it will become entirely different case.

Why an interface can not implement another interface?

Conceptually there are the two "domains" classes and interfaces. Inside these domains you are always extending, only a class implements an interface, which is kind of "crossing the border". So basically "extends" for interfaces mirrors the behavior for classes. At least I think this is the logic behind. It seems than not everybody agrees with this kind of logic (I find it a little bit contrived myself), and in fact there is no technical reason to have two different keywords at all.

How to increase Bootstrap Modal Width?

The easiest way can be inline style on modal-dialog div :

<div class="modal" id="myModal">
   <div class="modal-dialog" style="width:1250px;">
      <div class="modal-content">
            ...

Get value from text area

use the val() method:

Mysql error 1452 - Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails

For me, this problem was a little different and super easy to check and solve.

You must ensure BOTH of your tables are InnoDB. If one of the tables, namely the reference table is a MyISAM, the constraint will fail.

    SHOW TABLE STATUS WHERE Name =  't1';

    ALTER TABLE t1 ENGINE=InnoDB;

Java collections convert a string to a list of characters

The most straightforward way is to use a for loop to add elements to a new List:

String abc = "abc";
List<Character> charList = new ArrayList<Character>();

for (char c : abc.toCharArray()) {
  charList.add(c);
}

Similarly, for a Set:

String abc = "abc";
Set<Character> charSet = new HashSet<Character>();

for (char c : abc.toCharArray()) {
  charSet.add(c);
}

Auto refresh page every 30 seconds

Use setInterval instead of setTimeout. Though in this case either will be fine but setTimeout inherently triggers only once setInterval continues indefinitely.

<script language="javascript">
setInterval(function(){
   window.location.reload(1);
}, 30000);
</script>

How to manually install a pypi module without pip/easy_install?

To further explain Sheena's answer, I needed to have setup-tools installed as a dependency of another tool e.g. more-itertools.

Download

Click the Clone or download button and choose your method. I placed these into a dev/py/libs directory in my user home directory. It does not matter where they are saved, because they will not be installed there.

Installing setup-tools

You will need to run the following inside the setup-tools directory.

python bootstrap.py
python setup.py install

General dependencies installation

Now you can navigate to the more-itertools direcotry and install it as normal.

  1. Download the package
  2. Unpackage it if it's an archive
  3. Navigate (cd ...) into the directory containing setup.py
  4. If there are any installation instructions contained in the documentation contained herein, read and follow the instructions OTHERWISE
  5. Type in: python setup.py install

hasNext in Python iterators?

DataTable: Hide the Show Entries dropdown but keep the Search box

$(document).ready( function () {
  $('#example').dataTable( {
    "bInfo": false
  } );
} );

Enable or disable the table information display. This shows information about the data that is currently visible on the page, including information about filtered data if that action is being performed.

Django ManyToMany filter()

another way to do this is by going through the intermediate table. I'd express this within the Django ORM like this:

UserZone = User.zones.through

# for a single zone
users_in_zone = User.objects.filter(
  id__in=UserZone.objects.filter(zone=zone1).values('user'))

# for multiple zones
users_in_zones = User.objects.filter(
  id__in=UserZone.objects.filter(zone__in=[zone1, zone2, zone3]).values('user'))

it would be nice if it didn't need the .values('user') specified, but Django (version 3.0.7) seems to need it.

the above code will end up generating SQL that looks something like:

SELECT * FROM users WHERE id IN (SELECT user_id FROM userzones WHERE zone_id IN (1,2,3))

which is nice because it doesn't have any intermediate joins that could cause duplicate users to be returned

Difference between Select Unique and Select Distinct

select unique is not valid syntax for what you are trying to do

you want to use either select distinct or select distinctrow

And actually, you don't even need distinct/distinctrow in what you are trying to do. You can eliminate duplicates by choosing the appropriate union statement parameters.

the below query by itself will only provide distinct values

select col from table1
union
select col from table2

if you did want duplicates you would have to do

select col from table1
union all
select col from table2

How to fix: "UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte"

Encode converts a unicode object in to a string object. I think you are trying to encode a string object. first convert your result into unicode object and then encode that unicode object into 'utf-8'. for example

    result = yourFunction()
    result.decode().encode('utf-8')

What is the use of BindingResult interface in spring MVC?

Particular example: use a BindingResult object as an argument for a validate method of a Validator inside a Controller.

Then, you can check this object looking for validation errors:

if (bindingResult.hasErrors()) {
    // do something
}

Java program to get the current date without timestamp

The accepted answer by Jesper is correct but now outdated. The java.util.Date and .Calendar classes are notoriously troublesome. Avoid them.

java.time

Instead use the java.time framework, built into Java 8 and later, back-ported to Java 6 & 7 and further adapted to Android.

Table of all date-time types in Java, both modern and legacy.png

If you truly do not care about time-of-day and time zones, use LocalDate in the java.time framework ().

LocalDate localDate = LocalDate.of( 2014 , 5 , 6 );

Today

A time zone is crucial in determining a date. For any given moment, the date varies around the globe by zone. For example, a few minutes after midnight in Paris France is a new day while still “yesterday” in Montréal Québec.

If no time zone is specified, the JVM implicitly applies its current default time zone. That default may change at any moment during runtime(!), so your results may vary. Better to specify your desired/expected time zone explicitly as an argument. If you want to use the JVM’s current default time zone, make your intention clear by calling ZoneId.systemDefault(). If critical, confirm the zone with your user.

Specify a proper time zone name in the format of Continent/Region, such as America/Montreal, Africa/Casablanca, or Pacific/Auckland. Never use the 2-4 letter abbreviation such as EST or IST as they are not true time zones, not standardized, and not even unique(!).

ZoneId z = ZoneId.of( "America/Montreal" ) ;
LocalDate today = LocalDate.now( z ) ;

If you want to use the JVM’s current default time zone, ask for it and pass as an argument. If omitted, the code becomes ambiguous to read in that we do not know for certain if you intended to use the default or if you, like so many programmers, were unaware of the issue.

ZoneId z = ZoneId.systemDefault() ;  // Get JVM’s current default time zone.
LocalDate today = LocalDate.now( z ) ;

Moment

If you care about specific moments, specific points on the timeline, do not use LocalDate. If you care about the date as seen through the wall-clock time used by the people of a certain region, do not use LocalDate.

Be aware that if you have any chance of needing to deal with other time zones or UTC, this is the wrong way to go. Naïve programmers tend to think they do not need time zones when in fact they do.

Strings

Call toString to generate a string in standard ISO 8601 format.

String output = localDate.toString();

2014-05-06

For other formats, search Stack Overflow for DateTimeFormatter class.

Joda-Time

Though now supplanted by java.time, you can use the similar LocalDate class in the Joda-Time library (the inspiration for java.time).

LocalDate localDate = new LocalDate( 2014, 5, 6 );

What is the location of mysql client ".my.cnf" in XAMPP for Windows?

It's usually in your MySQL installation folder like in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\my.ini or C:\xampp\mysql\bin

If it's not there, it's highly possible that you have none, and that MySQL is just loading default values.

You might have to enable hidden Files and Folders to see it. Go to Folder Options: in any folder, go to the top horizontal main text menu >> Tools >> Folder Options. Enable 'View Hidden Files and Folders', and 'View Protected System Files', save & exit

How can I pass a Bitmap object from one activity to another

If the image is too large and you can't save&load it to the storage, you should consider just using a global static reference to the bitmap (inside the receiving activity), which will be reset to null on onDestory, only if "isChangingConfigurations" returns true.

How to preventDefault on anchor tags?

Since you are making a web app why do you need links?

Swap your anchors to buttons!

<button ng-click="do()"></button>

Pass mouse events through absolutely-positioned element

The reason you are not receiving the event is because the absolutely positioned element is not a child of the element you are wanting to "click" (blue div). The cleanest way I can think of is to put the absolute element as a child of the one you want clicked, but I'm assuming you can't do that or you wouldn't have posted this question here :)

Another option would be to register a click event handler for the absolute element and call the click handler for the blue div, causing them both to flash.

Due to the way events bubble up through the DOM I'm not sure there is a simpler answer for you, but I'm very curious if anyone else has any tricks I don't know about!

How do I tell Spring Boot which main class to use for the executable jar?

For those using Gradle (instead of Maven), referencing here:

The main class can also be configured explicitly using the task’s mainClassName property:

bootJar {
    mainClassName = 'com.example.ExampleApplication'
}

Alternatively, the main class name can be configured project-wide using the mainClassName property of the Spring Boot DSL:

springBoot {
    mainClassName = 'com.example.ExampleApplication'
}

MongoDB what are the default user and password?

By default mongodb has no enabled access control, so there is no default user or password.

To enable access control, use either the command line option --auth or security.authorization configuration file setting.

You can use the following procedure or refer to Enabling Auth in the MongoDB docs.

Procedure

  1. Start MongoDB without access control.

    mongod --port 27017 --dbpath /data/db1

  2. Connect to the instance.

    mongo --port 27017

  3. Create the user administrator.

    use admin
    db.createUser(
      {
        user: "myUserAdmin",
        pwd: "abc123",
        roles: [ { role: "userAdminAnyDatabase", db: "admin" } ]
      }
    )

  4. Re-start the MongoDB instance with access control.

    mongod --auth --port 27017 --dbpath /data/db1

  5. Authenticate as the user administrator.

    mongo --port 27017 -u "myUserAdmin" -p "abc123" \
      --authenticationDatabase "admin"

What is the difference between Sessions and Cookies in PHP?

The main difference between a session and a cookie is that session data is stored on the server, whereas cookies store data in the visitor’s browser.

Sessions are more secure than cookies as it is stored in server. Cookie can be turned off from browser.

Data stored in cookie can be stored for months or years, depending on the life span of the cookie. But the data in the session is lost when the web browser is closed.

PhoneGap Eclipse Issue - eglCodecCommon glUtilsParamSize: unknow param errors

How to unmount a busy device

Populating VBA dynamic arrays

Yes, you're looking for the ReDim statement, which dynamically allocates the required amount of space in the array.

The following statement

Dim MyArray()

declares an array without dimensions, so the compiler doesn't know how big it is and can't store anything inside of it.

But you can use the ReDim statement to resize the array:

ReDim MyArray(0 To 3)

And if you need to resize the array while preserving its contents, you can use the Preserve keyword along with the ReDim statement:

ReDim Preserve MyArray(0 To 3)

But do note that both ReDim and particularly ReDim Preserve have a heavy performance cost. Try to avoid doing this over and over in a loop if at all possible; your users will thank you.

However, in the simple example shown in your question (if it's not just a throwaway sample), you don't need ReDim at all. Just declare the array with explicit dimensions:

Dim MyArray(0 To 3)

Linux cmd to search for a class file among jars irrespective of jar path

Use deepgrep and deepfind. On debian-based systems you can install them by:

sudo apt-get install strigi-utils

Both commands search for nested archives as well. In your case the command would look like:

find . -name "*.jar" | xargs -I {} deepfind {} | grep Hello.class

What does the colon (:) operator do?

colon is using in for-each loop, Try this example,

import java.util.*;

class ForEachLoop
{
       public static void main(String args[])
       {`enter code here`
       Integer[] iray={1,2,3,4,5};
       String[] sray={"ENRIQUE IGLESIAS"};
       printME(iray);
       printME(sray);

       }
       public static void printME(Integer[] i)
       {
                  for(Integer x:i)
                  {
                    System.out.println(x);
                  }
       }
       public static void printME(String[] i)
       {
                   for(String x:i)
                   {
                   System.out.println(x);
                   }
       }
}

ArrayList filter

Probably the best way is to use Guava

List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
list.add("How are you");
list.add("How you doing");
list.add("Joe");
list.add("Mike");

Collection<String> filtered = Collections2.filter(list,
    Predicates.containsPattern("How"));
print(filtered);

prints

How are you
How you doing

In case you want to get the filtered collection as a list, you can use this (also from Guava):

List<String> filteredList = Lists.newArrayList(Collections2.filter(
    list, Predicates.containsPattern("How")));

Django model "doesn't declare an explicit app_label"

as a noob using Python3 ,I find it might be an import error instead of a Django error

wrong:

from someModule import someClass

right:

from .someModule import someClass

this happens a few days ago but I really can't reproduce it...I think only people new to Django may encounter this.here's what I remember:

try to register a model in admin.py:

from django.contrib import admin
from user import User
admin.site.register(User)

try to run server, error looks like this

some lines...
File "/path/to/admin.py" ,line 6
tell you there is an import error
some lines...
Model class django.contrib.contenttypes.models.ContentType doesn't declare an explicit app_label

How to drop a list of rows from Pandas dataframe?

To drop rows with indices 1, 2, 4 you can use:

df[~df.index.isin([1, 2, 4])]

The tilde operator ~ negates the result of the method isin. Another option is to drop indices:

df.loc[df.index.drop([1, 2, 4])]

Removing NA in dplyr pipe

I don't think desc takes an na.rm argument... I'm actually surprised it doesn't throw an error when you give it one. If you just want to remove NAs, use na.omit (base) or tidyr::drop_na:

outcome.df %>%
  na.omit() %>%
  group_by(Hospital, State) %>%
  arrange(desc(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  head()

library(tidyr)
outcome.df %>%
  drop_na() %>%
  group_by(Hospital, State) %>%
  arrange(desc(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  head()

If you only want to remove NAs from the HeartAttackDeath column, filter with is.na, or use tidyr::drop_na:

outcome.df %>%
  filter(!is.na(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  group_by(Hospital, State) %>%
  arrange(desc(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  head()

outcome.df %>%
  drop_na(HeartAttackDeath) %>%
  group_by(Hospital, State) %>%
  arrange(desc(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  head()

As pointed out at the dupe, complete.cases can also be used, but it's a bit trickier to put in a chain because it takes a data frame as an argument but returns an index vector. So you could use it like this:

outcome.df %>%
  filter(complete.cases(.)) %>%
  group_by(Hospital, State) %>%
  arrange(desc(HeartAttackDeath)) %>%
  head()

How to manually set REFERER header in Javascript?

Above solution does not work for me , I have tried following and it is working in all browsers.

simply made a fake ajax call, it will make a entry into referer header.

Moment.js with Vuejs

With your code, the vue.js is trying to access the moment() method from its scope.

Hence you should use a method like this:

methods: {
  moment: function () {
    return moment();
  }
},

If you want to pass a date to the moment.js, I suggest to use filters:

filters: {
  moment: function (date) {
    return moment(date).format('MMMM Do YYYY, h:mm:ss a');
  }
}

<span>{{ date | moment }}</span>

How to map to multiple elements with Java 8 streams?

It's an interesting question, because it shows that there are a lot of different approaches to achieve the same result. Below I show three different implementations.

Default methods in Collection Framework: Java 8 added some methods to the collections classes, that are not directly related to the Stream API. Using these methods, you can significantly simplify the implementation of the non-stream implementation:

Collection<DataSet> convert(List<MultiDataPoint> multiDataPoints) {
    Map<String, DataSet> result = new HashMap<>();
    multiDataPoints.forEach(pt ->
        pt.keyToData.forEach((key, value) ->
            result.computeIfAbsent(
                key, k -> new DataSet(k, new ArrayList<>()))
            .dataPoints.add(new DataPoint(pt.timestamp, value))));
    return result.values();
}

Stream API with flatten and intermediate data structure: The following implementation is almost identical to the solution provided by Stuart Marks. In contrast to his solution, the following implementation uses an anonymous inner class as intermediate data structure.

Collection<DataSet> convert(List<MultiDataPoint> multiDataPoints) {
    return multiDataPoints.stream()
        .flatMap(mdp -> mdp.keyToData.entrySet().stream().map(e ->
            new Object() {
                String key = e.getKey();
                DataPoint dataPoint = new DataPoint(mdp.timestamp, e.getValue());
            }))
        .collect(
            collectingAndThen(
                groupingBy(t -> t.key, mapping(t -> t.dataPoint, toList())),
                m -> m.entrySet().stream().map(e -> new DataSet(e.getKey(), e.getValue())).collect(toList())));
}

Stream API with map merging: Instead of flattening the original data structures, you can also create a Map for each MultiDataPoint, and then merge all maps into a single map with a reduce operation. The code is a bit simpler than the above solution:

Collection<DataSet> convert(List<MultiDataPoint> multiDataPoints) {
    return multiDataPoints.stream()
        .map(mdp -> mdp.keyToData.entrySet().stream()
            .collect(toMap(e -> e.getKey(), e -> asList(new DataPoint(mdp.timestamp, e.getValue())))))
        .reduce(new HashMap<>(), mapMerger())
        .entrySet().stream()
        .map(e -> new DataSet(e.getKey(), e.getValue()))
        .collect(toList());
}

You can find an implementation of the map merger within the Collectors class. Unfortunately, it is a bit tricky to access it from the outside. Following is an alternative implementation of the map merger:

<K, V> BinaryOperator<Map<K, List<V>>> mapMerger() {
    return (lhs, rhs) -> {
        Map<K, List<V>> result = new HashMap<>();
        lhs.forEach((key, value) -> result.computeIfAbsent(key, k -> new ArrayList<>()).addAll(value));
        rhs.forEach((key, value) -> result.computeIfAbsent(key, k -> new ArrayList<>()).addAll(value));
        return result;
    };
}

Use CASE statement to check if column exists in table - SQL Server

SELECT *
FROM ...
WHERE EXISTS(SELECT 1
        FROM sys.columns c
        WHERE c.[object_id] = OBJECT_ID('dbo.Tags')
            AND c.name = 'ModifiedByUser'
    )

JQuery Ajax Post results in 500 Internal Server Error

I found this occurred in chrome when I did two ajax queries in the jquery 'on load' handler,

i.e. like $(function() { $.ajax() ... $.ajax() ... });

I avoided it using:

setTimeout(function_to_do_2nd_ajax_request, 1);

it's presumably a chrome and/or jquery bug

How to copy an object in Objective-C

There is also the use of the -> operator for copying. For Example:

-(id)copyWithZone:(NSZone*)zone
{
    MYClass* copy = [MYClass new];
    copy->_property1 = self->_property1;
    ...
    copy->_propertyN = self->_propertyN;
    return copy;
}

The reasoning here is the resulting copied object should reflect the state of the original object. The "." operator could introduce side effects as this one calls getters which in turn may contain logic.

How to find the path of the local git repository when I am possibly in a subdirectory

git rev-parse --show-toplevel

could be enough if executed within a git repo.
From git rev-parse man page:

--show-toplevel

Show the absolute path of the top-level directory.

For older versions (before 1.7.x), the other options are listed in "Is there a way to get the git root directory in one command?":

git rev-parse --git-dir

That would give the path of the .git directory.

The OP mentions:

git rev-parse --show-prefix

which returns the local path under the git repo root. (empty if you are at the git repo root)

Note: for simply checking if one is in a git repo, I find the following command quite expressive:

git rev-parse --is-inside-work-tree

And yes, if you need to check if you are in a .git git-dir folder:

git rev-parse --is-inside-git-dir

How to disable a button when an input is empty?

its simple let us assume you have made an state full class by extending Component which contains following

class DisableButton extends Components
   {

      constructor()
       {
         super();
         // now set the initial state of button enable and disable to be false
          this.state = {isEnable: false }
       }

  // this function checks the length and make button to be enable by updating the state
     handleButtonEnable(event)
       {
         const value = this.target.value;
         if(value.length > 0 )
        {
          // set the state of isEnable to be true to make the button to be enable
          this.setState({isEnable : true})
        }

       }

      // in render you having button and input
     render()
       {
          return (
             <div>
                <input
                   placeholder={"ANY_PLACEHOLDER"}
                   onChange={this.handleChangePassword}

                  />

               <button
               onClick ={this.someFunction}
               disabled = {this.state.isEnable}
              />

             <div/>
            )

       }

   }

Convert java.util.date default format to Timestamp in Java

You can use DateFormat(java.text.*) to parse the date:

DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("EEE MMM dd kk:mm:ss z yyyy", Locale.ENGLISH);
Date d = df.parse("Mon May 27 11:46:15 IST 2013")

You will have to change the locale to match your own (with this you will get 10:46:15). Then you can use the same code you have to convert it to a timestamp.

Introducing FOREIGN KEY constraint may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths - why?

In .NET Core I played with all upper answers - but without any success. I made changes a lot in DB structure and every time added new migration attempting to update-database, but received the same error.

Then I started to remove-migration one by one until Package Manager Console threw me exception:

The migration '20170827183131_***' has already been applied to the database

After that, I added new migration (add-migration) and update-database successfully

So my suggestion would be: clear out all your temp migrations, until your current DB state.

In Gradle, is there a better way to get Environment Variables?

In android gradle 0.4.0 you can just do:

Add padding to HTML text input field

You can provide padding to an input like this:

HTML:

<input type=text id=firstname />

CSS:

input {
    width: 250px;
    padding: 5px;
}

however I would also add:

input {
    width: 250px;
    padding: 5px;
    -webkit-box-sizing: border-box; /* Safari/Chrome, other WebKit */
    -moz-box-sizing: border-box;    /* Firefox, other Gecko */
    box-sizing: border-box;         /* Opera/IE 8+ */
}

Box sizing makes the input width stay at 250px rather than increase to 260px due to the padding.

For reference.

Setting cursor at the end of any text of a textbox

You can set the caret position using TextBox.CaretIndex. If the only thing you need is to set the cursor at the end, you can simply pass the string's length, eg:

txtBox.CaretIndex=txtBox.Text.Length;

You need to set the caret index at the length, not length-1, because this would put the caret before the last character.

How can I list the scheduled jobs running in my database?

The DBA views are restricted. So you won't be able to query them unless you're connected as a DBA or similarly privileged user.

The ALL views show you the information you're allowed to see. Normally that would be jobs you've submitted, unless you have additional privileges.

The privileges you need are defined in the Admin Guide. Find out more.

So, either you need a DBA account or you need to chat with your DBA team about getting access to the information you need.

Can not deserialize instance of java.util.ArrayList out of START_OBJECT token

The problem is the JSON - this cannot, by default, be deserialized into a Collection because it's not actually a JSON Array - that would look like this:

[
    {
        "name": "Test order1",
        "detail": "ahk ks"
    },
    {
        "name": "Test order2",
        "detail": "Fisteku"
    }
]

Since you're not controlling the exact process of deserialization (RestEasy does) - a first option would be to simply inject the JSON as a String and then take control of the deserialization process:

Collection<COrder> readValues = new ObjectMapper().readValue(
    jsonAsString, new TypeReference<Collection<COrder>>() { }
);

You would loose a bit of the convenience of not having to do that yourself, but you would easily sort out the problem.

Another option - if you cannot change the JSON - would be to construct a wrapper to fit the structure of your JSON input - and use that instead of Collection<COrder>.

Hope this helps.

What does "app.run(host='0.0.0.0') " mean in Flask

To answer to your second question. You can just hit the IP address of the machine that your flask app is running, e.g. 192.168.1.100 in a browser on different machine on the same network and you are there. Though, you will not be able to access it if you are on a different network. Firewalls or VLans can cause you problems with reaching your application. If that computer has a public IP, then you can hit that IP from anywhere on the planet and you will be able to reach the app. Usually this might impose some configuration, since most of the public servers are behind some sort of router or firewall.

JavaScript inside an <img title="<a href='#' onClick='alert('Hello World!')>The Link</a>" /> possible?

No, this is, as you say "rubbish code". If it works as should, it is because browsers try to "read the writer's mind" - in other words, they have algorithms to try to make sense of "rubbish code", guess at the probable intent and internally change it into something that actually makes sense.

In other words, your code only works by accident, and probably not in all browsers.

Is this what you're trying to do?

<a href="#" onClick="alert('Hello World!')"><img title="The Link" /></a>

How to make connection to Postgres via Node.js

Slonik is an alternative to answers proposed by Kuberchaun and Vitaly.

Slonik implements safe connection handling; you create a connection pool and connection opening/handling is handled for you.

import {
  createPool,
  sql
} from 'slonik';

const pool = createPool('postgres://user:password@host:port/database');

return pool.connect((connection) => {
  // You are now connected to the database.
  return connection.query(sql`SELECT foo()`);
})
  .then(() => {
    // You are no longer connected to the database.
  });

postgres://user:password@host:port/database is your connection string (or more canonically a connection URI or DSN).

The benefit of this approach is that your script ensures that you never accidentally leave hanging connections.

Other benefits for using Slonik include:

Configure WAMP server to send email

Sendmail wasn't working for me so I used msmtp 1.6.2 w32 and most just followed the instructions at DeveloperSide. Here is a quick rundown of the setup for posterity:

Enabled IMAP access under your Gmail account (the one msmtp is sending emails from)

Enable access for less secure apps. Log into your google account and go here

Edit php.ini, find and change each setting below to reflect the following:

; These are commented out by prefixing a semicolon
;SMTP = localhost
;smtp_port = 25

; Set these paths to where you put your msmtp files.
; I used backslashes in php.ini and it works fine.
; The example in the devside guide uses forwardslashes.
sendmail_path = "C:\wamp64\msmtp\msmtp.exe -d -C C:\wamp64\msmtp\msmtprc.ini -t --read-envelope-from"

mail.log = "C:\wamp64\msmtp\maillog.txt"

Create and edit the file msmtprc.ini in the same directory as your msmtp.exe file as follows, replacing it with your own email and password:

# Default values for all accounts

tls_certcheck off
# I used forward slashes here and it works.

I can't find my git.exe file in my Github folder

The last update for "windows git" did move the git.exe file from the /bin folder to the /cmd folder. So, to use git with IDEs such as webStorm or Android Studio you can use the path :

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\GitHub\PortableGit_<..numbers..>\cmd\git.exe

But if you want to have linux-like commands such as git, ssh, ls, cp under windows powerShell or cmd add to your windows PATH variables :

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\GitHub\PortableGit_<...numbers...>\usr\bin

change <user> and <...numbers...> to your values and reboot!

Also, you will have to update this everytime git updates since it might change the portable folder name. If folder structure changes I will update this post.

Thx @dennisschagt for the comment above! ;)

getApplication() vs. getApplicationContext()

It seems to have to do with context wrapping. Most classes derived from Context are actually a ContextWrapper, which essentially delegates to another context, possibly with changes by the wrapper.

The context is a general abstraction that supports mocking and proxying. Since many contexts are bound to a limited-lifetime object such as an Activity, there needs to be a way to get a longer-lived context, for purposes such as registering for future notifications. That is achieved by Context.getApplicationContext(). A logical implementation is to return the global Application object, but nothing prevents a context implementation from returning a wrapper or proxy with a suitable lifetime instead.

Activities and services are more specifically associated with an Application object. The usefulness of this, I believe, is that you can create and register in the manifest a custom class derived from Application and be certain that Activity.getApplication() or Service.getApplication() will return that specific object of that specific type, which you can cast to your derived Application class and use for whatever custom purpose.

In other words, getApplication() is guaranteed to return an Application object, while getApplicationContext() is free to return a proxy instead.

Get the position of a div/span tag

You can call the method getBoundingClientRect() on a reference to the element. Then you can examine the top, left, right and/or bottom properties...

var offsets = document.getElementById('11a').getBoundingClientRect();
var top = offsets.top;
var left = offsets.left;

If using jQuery, you can use the more succinct code...

var offsets = $('#11a').offset();
var top = offsets.top;
var left = offsets.left;

How do you validate a URL with a regular expression in Python?

note - Lepl is no longer maintained or supported.

RFC 3696 defines "best practices" for URL validation - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3696.html

The latest release of Lepl (a Python parser library) includes an implementation of RFC 3696. You would use it something like:

from lepl.apps.rfc3696 import Email, HttpUrl

# compile the validators (do once at start of program)
valid_email = Email()
valid_http_url = HttpUrl()

# use the validators (as often as you like)
if valid_email(some_email):
    # email is ok
else:
    # email is bad
if valid_http_url(some_url):
    # url is ok
else:
    # url is bad

Although the validators are defined in Lepl, which is a recursive descent parser, they are largely compiled internally to regular expressions. That combines the best of both worlds - a (relatively) easy to read definition that can be checked against RFC 3696 and an efficient implementation. There's a post on my blog showing how this simplifies the parser - http://www.acooke.org/cute/LEPLOptimi0.html

Lepl is available at http://www.acooke.org/lepl and the RFC 3696 module is documented at http://www.acooke.org/lepl/rfc3696.html

This is completely new in this release, so may contain bugs. Please contact me if you have any problems and I will fix them ASAP. Thanks.

How to get a list of installed android applications and pick one to run

If there are multiple launchers in a one package above code has a problem. Eg: on LG Optimus Facebook for LG, MySpace for LG, Twitter for LG contains in a one package name SNS and if you use above SNS will repeat. After hours of research I came with below code. Seems to work well.

        final Intent mainIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN, null);
        mainIntent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER);
        List<ResolveInfo> ril = getPackageManager().queryIntentActivities(mainIntent, 0);
        List<String> componentList = new ArrayList<String>();
        String name = null;

        for (ResolveInfo ri : ril) {
            if (ri.activityInfo != null) {
                Resources res = getPackageManager().getResourcesForApplication(ri.activityInfo.applicationInfo);
                if (ri.activityInfo.labelRes != 0) {
                    name = res.getString(ri.activityInfo.labelRes);
                } else {
                    name = ri.activityInfo.applicationInfo.loadLabel(
                            getPackageManager()).toString();
                }
                componentList.add(name);
            }
        }
        return componentList;

How to add/update child entities when updating a parent entity in EF

There are a few projects out there that make the interaction between the client and the server easier as far as it concerns saving an entire object graph.

Here are two you'd want to look at:

Both the projects above take recognize the disconnected entities when it's returned to the server, detect and save the changes, and return to the client affected data.

How do I line up 3 divs on the same row?

This is easier and gives purpose to the never used unordered/ordered list tags.

In your CSS add:

    li{float: left;} //Sets float left property globally for all li tags.

Then add in your HTML:

    <ul>
         <li>1</li>
         <li>2</li>
         <li>3</li>
    </ul>

Now watch it all line up perfectly! No more arguing over tables vs divs!

Changing the color of a clicked table row using jQuery

jQuery :

$("#data td").toggle(function(){
    $(this).css('background-color','blue')
},function(){
    $(this).css('background-color','ur_default_color')
});

How to change the background color of the options menu?

One thing to note that you guys are over-complicating the problem just like a lot of other posts! All you need to do is create drawable selectors with whatever backgrounds you need and set them to actual items. I just spend two hours trying your solutions (all suggested on this page) and none of them worked. Not to mention that there are tons of errors that essentially slow your performance in those try/catch blocks you have.

Anyways here is a menu xml file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<menu xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:id="@+id/m1"
          android:icon="@drawable/item1_selector"
          />
    <item android:id="@+id/m2"
          android:icon="@drawable/item2_selector"
          />
</menu>

Now in your item1_selector:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable/item_highlighted" />
    <item android:state_selected="true" android:drawable="@drawable/item_highlighted" />
    <item android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@drawable/item_nonhighlighted" />
    <item android:drawable="@drawable/item_nonhighlighted" />
</selector>

REST - HTTP Post Multipart with JSON

If I understand you correctly, you want to compose a multipart request manually from an HTTP/REST console. The multipart format is simple; a brief introduction can be found in the HTML 4.01 spec. You need to come up with a boundary, which is a string not found in the content, let’s say HereGoes. You set request header Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=HereGoes. Then this should be a valid request body:

--HereGoes
Content-Disposition: form-data; name="myJsonString"
Content-Type: application/json

{"foo": "bar"}
--HereGoes
Content-Disposition: form-data; name="photo"
Content-Type: image/jpeg
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

<...JPEG content in base64...>
--HereGoes--

Temporary table names start with # or ## - The first is a local temporary table and the last is a global temporary table.

Here is one of many articles describing the differences between them.

Node.js: Gzip compression?

Although you can gzip using a reverse proxy such as nginx, lighttpd or in varnish. It can be beneficial to have most http optimisations such as gzipping at the application level so that you can have a much granular approach on what asset's to gzip.

I have actually created my own gzip module for expressjs / connect called gzippo https://github.com/tomgco/gzippo although new it does do the job. Plus it uses node-compress instead of spawning the unix gzip command.

FirebaseInstanceIdService is deprecated

Kotlin allows for even simpler code than what's shown in other answers.

To get the new token whenever it's refreshed:

class MyFirebaseMessagingService: FirebaseMessagingService() {

    override fun onNewToken(token: String?) {
        Log.d("FMS_TOKEN", token)
    }
    ...
}

To get the token from anywhere at runtime:

FirebaseInstanceId.getInstance().instanceId.addOnSuccessListener {
    Log.d("FMS_TOKEN", it.token)
}

Why are only a few video games written in Java?

Performance issue is the first reason. When you see the kind of hyper optimized C++ code that are in the Quake engines ( http://www.codemaestro.com/reviews/9 ), you know they're not gonna waste their time with a virtual machine.

Sure there may be some .NET games (which ones ? I'm interested. Are there some really CPU/GPU-intensive ones ?), but I guess it's more because lot of people are experts in MS technologies and followed Microsoft when they launched their new technology.

Oh and cross-platform just isn't in the mind of video games companies. Linux is just around 1% of market, Mac OS a few % more. They definitely think it's not worth dumping Windows-only technologies and librairies such as DirectX.

Git fast forward VS no fast forward merge

The --no-ff option is useful when you want to have a clear notion of your feature branch. So even if in the meantime no commits were made, FF is possible - you still want sometimes to have each commit in the mainline correspond to one feature. So you treat a feature branch with a bunch of commits as a single unit, and merge them as a single unit. It is clear from your history when you do feature branch merging with --no-ff.

If you do not care about such thing - you could probably get away with FF whenever it is possible. Thus you will have more svn-like feeling of workflow.

For example, the author of this article thinks that --no-ff option should be default and his reasoning is close to that I outlined above:

Consider the situation where a series of minor commits on the "feature" branch collectively make up one new feature: If you just do "git merge feature_branch" without --no-ff, "it is impossible to see from the Git history which of the commit objects together have implemented a feature—you would have to manually read all the log messages. Reverting a whole feature (i.e. a group of commits), is a true headache [if --no-ff is not used], whereas it is easily done if the --no-ff flag was used [because it's just one commit]."

Graphic showing how --no-ff groups together all commits from feature branch into one commit on master branch

What are all the user accounts for IIS/ASP.NET and how do they differ?

This is a very good question and sadly many developers don't ask enough questions about IIS/ASP.NET security in the context of being a web developer and setting up IIS. So here goes....

To cover the identities listed:

IIS_IUSRS:

This is analogous to the old IIS6 IIS_WPG group. It's a built-in group with it's security configured such that any member of this group can act as an application pool identity.

IUSR:

This account is analogous to the old IUSR_<MACHINE_NAME> local account that was the default anonymous user for IIS5 and IIS6 websites (i.e. the one configured via the Directory Security tab of a site's properties).

For more information about IIS_IUSRS and IUSR see:

Understanding Built-In User and Group Accounts in IIS 7

DefaultAppPool:

If an application pool is configured to run using the Application Pool Identity feature then a "synthesised" account called IIS AppPool\<pool name> will be created on the fly to used as the pool identity. In this case there will be a synthesised account called IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool created for the life time of the pool. If you delete the pool then this account will no longer exist. When applying permissions to files and folders these must be added using IIS AppPool\<pool name>. You also won't see these pool accounts in your computers User Manager. See the following for more information:

Application Pool Identities

ASP.NET v4.0: -

This will be the Application Pool Identity for the ASP.NET v4.0 Application Pool. See DefaultAppPool above.

NETWORK SERVICE: -

The NETWORK SERVICE account is a built-in identity introduced on Windows 2003. NETWORK SERVICE is a low privileged account under which you can run your application pools and websites. A website running in a Windows 2003 pool can still impersonate the site's anonymous account (IUSR_ or whatever you configured as the anonymous identity).

In ASP.NET prior to Windows 2008 you could have ASP.NET execute requests under the Application Pool account (usually NETWORK SERVICE). Alternatively you could configure ASP.NET to impersonate the site's anonymous account via the <identity impersonate="true" /> setting in web.config file locally (if that setting is locked then it would need to be done by an admin in the machine.config file).

Setting <identity impersonate="true"> is common in shared hosting environments where shared application pools are used (in conjunction with partial trust settings to prevent unwinding of the impersonated account).

In IIS7.x/ASP.NET impersonation control is now configured via the Authentication configuration feature of a site. So you can configure to run as the pool identity, IUSR or a specific custom anonymous account.

LOCAL SERVICE:

The LOCAL SERVICE account is a built-in account used by the service control manager. It has a minimum set of privileges on the local computer. It has a fairly limited scope of use:

LocalService Account

LOCAL SYSTEM:

You didn't ask about this one but I'm adding for completeness. This is a local built-in account. It has fairly extensive privileges and trust. You should never configure a website or application pool to run under this identity.

LocalSystem Account

In Practice:

In practice the preferred approach to securing a website (if the site gets its own application pool - which is the default for a new site in IIS7's MMC) is to run under Application Pool Identity. This means setting the site's Identity in its Application Pool's Advanced Settings to Application Pool Identity:

enter image description here

In the website you should then configure the Authentication feature:

enter image description here

Right click and edit the Anonymous Authentication entry:

enter image description here

Ensure that "Application pool identity" is selected:

enter image description here

When you come to apply file and folder permissions you grant the Application Pool identity whatever rights are required. For example if you are granting the application pool identity for the ASP.NET v4.0 pool permissions then you can either do this via Explorer:

enter image description here

Click the "Check Names" button:

enter image description here

Or you can do this using the ICACLS.EXE utility:

icacls c:\wwwroot\mysite /grant "IIS AppPool\ASP.NET v4.0":(CI)(OI)(M)

...or...if you site's application pool is called BobsCatPicBlogthen:

icacls c:\wwwroot\mysite /grant "IIS AppPool\BobsCatPicBlog":(CI)(OI)(M)

I hope this helps clear things up.

Update:

I just bumped into this excellent answer from 2009 which contains a bunch of useful information, well worth a read:

The difference between the 'Local System' account and the 'Network Service' account?

Creating a JSON Array in node js

Build up a JavaScript data structure with the required information, then turn it into the json string at the end.

Based on what I think you're doing, try something like this:

var result = [];
for (var name in goals) {
  if (goals.hasOwnProperty(name)) {
    result.push({name: name, goals: goals[name]});
  }
}

res.contentType('application/json');
res.send(JSON.stringify(result));

or something along those lines.

EDIT: See Gordon Davisson's solution for a more general answer (i.e. if your filenames contain special characters). This answer is merely a syntax correction.

How can I extract the folder path from file path in Python?

WITH PATHLIB MODULE (UPDATED ANSWER)

One should consider using pathlib for new development. It is in the stdlib for Python3.4, but available on PyPI for earlier versions. This library provides a more object-orented method to manipulate paths <opinion> and is much easier read and program with </opinion>.

>>> import pathlib
>>> existGDBPath = pathlib.Path(r'T:\Data\DBDesign\DBDesign_93_v141b.mdb')
>>> wkspFldr = existGDBPath.parent
>>> print wkspFldr
Path('T:\Data\DBDesign')

WITH OS MODULE

Use the os.path module:

>>> import os
>>> existGDBPath = r'T:\Data\DBDesign\DBDesign_93_v141b.mdb'
>>> wkspFldr = os.path.dirname(existGDBPath)
>>> print wkspFldr
'T:\Data\DBDesign'

You can go ahead and assume that if you need to do some sort of filename manipulation it's already been implemented in os.path. If not, you'll still probably need to use this module as the building block.

How can I change the value of the elements in a vector?

Well, you could always run a transform over the vector:

std::transform(v.begin(), v.end(), v.begin(), [mean](int i) -> int { return i - mean; });

You could always also devise an iterator adapter that returns the result of an operation applied to the dereference of its component iterator when it's dereferenced. Then you could just copy the vector to the output stream:

std::copy(adapter(v.begin(), [mean](int i) -> { return i - mean; }), v.end(), std::ostream_iterator<int>(cout, "\n"));

Or, you could use a for loop...but that's kind of boring.

how to convert object to string in java

toString() is a debug info string. The default implementation returns the class name and the system identity hash. Collections return all elements but arrays not.

Also be aware of NullPointerException creating the log!

In this case a Arrays.toString() may help:

Object temp = data.getParameterValue("request");
String log = temp == null ? "null" : (temp.getClass().isArray() ? Arrays.toString((Object[])temp) : temp.toString());
log.info("end " + temp);

You can also use Arrays.asList():

Object temp = data.getParameterValue("request");
Object log = temp == null ? null : (temp.getClass().isArray() ? Arrays.asList((Object[])temp) : temp);
log.info("end " + temp);

This may result in a ClassCastException for primitive arrays (int[], ...).

How to tell if a connection is dead in python

It depends on what you mean by "dropped". For TCP sockets, if the other end closes the connection either through close() or the process terminating, you'll find out by reading an end of file, or getting a read error, usually the errno being set to whatever 'connection reset by peer' is by your operating system. For python, you'll read a zero length string, or a socket.error will be thrown when you try to read or write from the socket.

How to format an inline code in Confluence?

As of Confluence 4 and above, typing two curly brackets does not work.

You now need to select Monospace font. Highlight the text you want to change and:

Windows: Ctrl + Shift + M

Mac: Command + Shift + M

Alternatively, you can type a backtick (`) and Confluence will format everything until you type another backtick

Alternatively, next to the bold and italic options, you can click the "more" drop down and select Monospace:

Difference between Groovy Binary and Source release?

A source release will be compiled on your own machine while a binary release must match your operating system.

source releases are more common on linux systems because linux systems can dramatically vary in cpu, installed library versions, kernelversions and nearly every linux system has a compiler installed.

binary releases are common on ms-windows systems. most windows machines do not have a compiler installed.

Python Array with String Indices

Even better, try an OrderedDict (assuming you want something like a list). Closer to a list than a regular dict since the keys have an order just like list elements have an order. With a regular dict, the keys have an arbitrary order.

Note that this is available in Python 3 and 2.7. If you want to use with an earlier version of Python you can find installable modules to do that.

Getting fb.me URL

I'm not aware of any way to programmatically create these URLs, but the existing username space (www.facebook.com/something) works on fb.me also (e.g. http://fb.me/facebook )

cpp / c++ get pointer value or depointerize pointer

To get the value of a pointer, just de-reference the pointer.

int *ptr;
int value;
*ptr = 9;

value = *ptr;

value is now 9.

I suggest you read more about pointers, this is their base functionality.

What is the best way to check for Internet connectivity using .NET?

Pinging google.com introduces a DNS resolution dependency. Pinging 8.8.8.8 is fine but Google is several hops away from me. All I need to do is to ping the nearest thing to me that is on the internet.

I can use Ping's TTL feature to ping hop #1, then hop #2, etc, until I get a reply from something that is on a routable address; if that node is on a routable address then it is on the internet. For most of us, hop #1 will be our local gateway/router, and hop #2 will be the first point on the other side of our fibre connection or whatever.

This code works for me, and responds quicker than some of the other suggestions in this thread because it is pinging whatever is nearest to me on the internet.

Can jQuery get all CSS styles associated with an element?

A couple years late, but here is a solution that retrieves both inline styling and external styling:

function css(a) {
    var sheets = document.styleSheets, o = {};
    for (var i in sheets) {
        var rules = sheets[i].rules || sheets[i].cssRules;
        for (var r in rules) {
            if (a.is(rules[r].selectorText)) {
                o = $.extend(o, css2json(rules[r].style), css2json(a.attr('style')));
            }
        }
    }
    return o;
}

function css2json(css) {
    var s = {};
    if (!css) return s;
    if (css instanceof CSSStyleDeclaration) {
        for (var i in css) {
            if ((css[i]).toLowerCase) {
                s[(css[i]).toLowerCase()] = (css[css[i]]);
            }
        }
    } else if (typeof css == "string") {
        css = css.split("; ");
        for (var i in css) {
            var l = css[i].split(": ");
            s[l[0].toLowerCase()] = (l[1]);
        }
    }
    return s;
}

Pass a jQuery object into css() and it will return an object, which you can then plug back into jQuery's $().css(), ex:

var style = css($("#elementToGetAllCSS"));
$("#elementToPutStyleInto").css(style);

How do I create an Android Spinner as a popup?

This is from the Android SDK source code. As you can see you have a special constructor to create a Spinner with the specified mode you wanna use.

Hope it will help you :)

 /**
     * Construct a new spinner with the given context's theme, the supplied attribute set,
     * and default style. <code>mode</code> may be one of {@link #MODE_DIALOG} or
     * {@link #MODE_DROPDOWN} and determines how the user will select choices from the spinner.
     *
     * @param context The Context the view is running in, through which it can
     * access the current theme, resources, etc.
     * @param attrs The attributes of the XML tag that is inflating the view.
     * @param defStyle The default style to apply to this view. If 0, no style
     * will be applied (beyond what is included in the theme). This may
     * either be an attribute resource, whose value will be retrieved
     * from the current theme, or an explicit style resource.
     * @param mode Constant describing how the user will select choices from the spinner.
     *
     * @see #MODE_DIALOG
     * @see #MODE_DROPDOWN
     */
    public Spinner(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, int defStyle, int mode) {
        super(context, attrs, defStyle);

In C++, what is a virtual base class?

I'd like to add to OJ's kind clarifications.

Virtual inheritance doesn't come without a price. Like with all things virtual, you get a performance hit. There is a way around this performance hit that is possibly less elegant.

Instead of breaking the diamond by deriving virtually, you can add another layer to the diamond, to get something like this:

   B
  / \
D11 D12
 |   |
D21 D22
 \   /
  DD

None of the classes inherit virtually, all inherit publicly. Classes D21 and D22 will then hide virtual function f() which is ambiguous for DD, perhaps by declaring the function private. They'd each define a wrapper function, f1() and f2() respectively, each calling class-local (private) f(), thus resolving conflicts. Class DD calls f1() if it wants D11::f() and f2() if it wants D12::f(). If you define the wrappers inline you'll probably get about zero overhead.

Of course, if you can change D11 and D12 then you can do the same trick inside these classes, but often that is not the case.

INSTALL_FAILED_DUPLICATE_PERMISSION... C2D_MESSAGE

None of the above worked for me. My app was working fine in previous than Lollipop. But when I tested it on Lollipop the above error came up. It refused to install. I didn't have any previous versions installed so all the above solutions are invalid in my case. But thanks to this SO solution now it is running fine. Just like most developers I followed Google's misleading tutorial and I added the permissions by copy and paste like this:

<uses-permission android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE" />
<permission android:name="com.google.android.permission.C2D_MESSAGE"
            android:protectionLevel="signature" />

This would work with older versions < Lollipop. So now I changed to:

<uses-permission android:name="com.mycompany.myappname.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE" />
<permission android:name="com.mycompany.myappname.permission.C2D_MESSAGE"
            android:protectionLevel="signature" />

state provider and route provider in angularJS

You shouldn't use both ngRoute and UI-router. Here's a sample code for UI-router:

_x000D_
_x000D_
repoApp.config(function($stateProvider, $urlRouterProvider) {_x000D_
  _x000D_
  $stateProvider_x000D_
    .state('state1', {_x000D_
      url: "/state1",_x000D_
      templateUrl: "partials/state1.html",_x000D_
      controller: 'YourCtrl'_x000D_
    })_x000D_
    _x000D_
    .state('state2', {_x000D_
      url: "/state2",_x000D_
      templateUrl: "partials/state2.html",_x000D_
      controller: 'YourOtherCtrl'_x000D_
    });_x000D_
    $urlRouterProvider.otherwise("/state1");_x000D_
});_x000D_
//etc.
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

You can find a great answer on the difference between these two in this thread: What is the difference between angular-route and angular-ui-router?

You can also consult UI-Router's docs here: https://github.com/angular-ui/ui-router

Could not load file or assembly ... An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format (System.BadImageFormatException)

Shoot! I knew about this problem. I thought I was doing everything right until I accidentally saw 'x86' in the VS output window and that's when I got hold of the cause. Wasted a few mins on it today.

The configuration under 'Publish' window was set to 'x86'; whereas, everywhere else, it was 'x64'.

Please make sure it's in-sync across configuration manager, publish settings, solution configurations, and IIS settings (if that's your web server).

Also, please keep in mind - VS is a 32-bit app and IIS is 64 bit. 32-bit apps are disabled by default in IIS.

Two way sync with rsync

Since the original question also involves a desktop and laptop and example involving music files (hence he's probably using a GUI), I'd also mention one of the best bi-directional, multi-platform, free and open source programs to date: FreeFileSync.

It's GUI based, very fast and intuitive, comes with filtering and many other options, including the ability to remote connect, to view and interactively manage "collisions" (in example, files with similar timestamps) and to switch between bidirectional transfer, mirroring and so on.

Numpy isnan() fails on an array of floats (from pandas dataframe apply)

np.isnan can be applied to NumPy arrays of native dtype (such as np.float64):

In [99]: np.isnan(np.array([np.nan, 0], dtype=np.float64))
Out[99]: array([ True, False], dtype=bool)

but raises TypeError when applied to object arrays:

In [96]: np.isnan(np.array([np.nan, 0], dtype=object))
TypeError: ufunc 'isnan' not supported for the input types, and the inputs could not be safely coerced to any supported types according to the casting rule ''safe''

Since you have Pandas, you could use pd.isnull instead -- it can accept NumPy arrays of object or native dtypes:

In [97]: pd.isnull(np.array([np.nan, 0], dtype=float))
Out[97]: array([ True, False], dtype=bool)

In [98]: pd.isnull(np.array([np.nan, 0], dtype=object))
Out[98]: array([ True, False], dtype=bool)

Note that None is also considered a null value in object arrays.

Date format in the json output using spring boot

Starting from Spring Boot version 1.2.0.RELEASE , there is a property you can add to your application.properties to set a default date format to all of your classes spring.jackson.date-format.

For your date format example, you would add this line to your properties file:

spring.jackson.date-format=yyyy-MM-dd

Reference https://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/docs/1.2.0.RELEASE/reference/html/common-application-properties.html

Create a .csv file with values from a Python list

Jupyter notebook

Let's say that your list name is A

Then you can code the following and you will have it as a csv file (columns only!)

R="\n".join(A)
f = open('Columns.csv','w')
f.write(R)
f.close()

Why is Maven downloading the maven-metadata.xml every time?

I haven't studied yet, when Maven does which look-up, but to get stable and reproducible builds, I strongly recommend not to access Maven Respositories directly but to use a Maven Repository Manager such as Nexus.

Here is the tutorial how to set up your settings file:

http://books.sonatype.com/nexus-book/reference/maven-sect-single-group.html

http://maven.apache.org/repository-management.html

String index out of range: 4

You are using the wrong iteration counter, replace inp.charAt(i) with inp.charAt(j).

Convert a list of objects to an array of one of the object's properties

For everyone who is stuck with .NET 2.0, like me, try the following way (applicable to the example in the OP):

ConfigItemList.ConvertAll<string>(delegate (ConfigItemType ci)
{
   return ci.Name;
}).ToArray();

where ConfigItemList is your list variable.

Get the selected option id with jQuery

Creating runnable JAR with Gradle

As others have noted, in order for a jar file to be executable, the application's entry point must be set in the Main-Class attribute of the manifest file. If the dependency class files are not collocated, then they need to be set in the Class-Path entry of the manifest file.

I have tried all kinds of plugin combinations and what not for the simple task of creating an executable jar and somehow someway, include the dependencies. All plugins seem to be lacking one way or another, but finally I got it like I wanted. No mysterious scripts, not a million different mini files polluting the build directory, a pretty clean build script file, and above all: not a million foreign third party class files merged into my jar archive.

The following is a copy-paste from here for your convenience..

[How-to] create a distribution zip file with dependency jars in subdirectory /lib and add all dependencies to Class-Path entry in the manifest file:

apply plugin: 'java'
apply plugin: 'java-library-distribution'

repositories {
    mavenCentral()
}

dependencies {
    compile 'org.apache.commons:commons-lang3:3.3.2'
}

// Task "distZip" added by plugin "java-library-distribution":
distZip.shouldRunAfter(build)

jar {
    // Keep jar clean:
    exclude 'META-INF/*.SF', 'META-INF/*.DSA', 'META-INF/*.RSA', 'META-INF/*.MF'

    manifest {
        attributes 'Main-Class': 'com.somepackage.MainClass',
                   'Class-Path': configurations.runtime.files.collect { "lib/$it.name" }.join(' ')
    }
    // How-to add class path:
    //     https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22659463/add-classpath-in-manifest-using-gradle
    //     https://gist.github.com/simon04/6865179
}

Hosted as a gist here.

The result can be found in build/distributions and the unzipped contents look like this:

lib/commons-lang3-3.3.2.jar
MyJarFile.jar

Contents of MyJarFile.jar#META-INF/MANIFEST.mf:

Manifest-Version: 1.0
Main-Class: com.somepackage.MainClass
Class-Path: lib/commons-lang3-3.3.2.jar

Permission is only granted to system app

To ignore this error for one instance only, add the tools:ignore="ProtectedPermissions" attribute to your permission declaration. Here is an example:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PRIVILEGED_PHONE_STATE"
    tools:ignore="ProtectedPermissions" />

You have to add tools namespace in the manifest root element

<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"

How to overwrite files with Copy-Item in PowerShell

Replacing values from a column using a condition in R

# reassign depth values under 10 to zero
df$depth[df$depth<10] <- 0

(For the columns that are factors, you can only assign values that are factor levels. If you wanted to assign a value that wasn't currently a factor level, you would need to create the additional level first:

levels(df$species) <- c(levels(df$species), "unknown")
df$species[df$depth<10]  <- "unknown"

Using :focus to style outer div?

Other posters have already explained why the :focus pseudo class is insufficient, but finally there is a CSS-based standard solution.

CSS Selectors Level 4 defines a new pseudo class:

:focus-within

From MDN:

The :focus-within CSS pseudo-class matches any element that the :focus pseudo-class matches or that has a descendant that the :focus pseudo-class matches. (This includes descendants in shadow trees.)

So now with the :focus-within pseudo class - styling the outer div when the textarea gets clicked becomes trivial.

.box:focus-within {
    border: thin solid black;
}

Read Excel sheet in Powershell

This was extremely helpful for me when trying to automate Cisco SIP phone configuration using an Excel spreadsheet as the source. My only issue was when I tried to make an array and populate it using $array | Add-Member ... as I needed to use it later on to generate the config file. Just defining an array and making it the for loop allowed it to store correctly.

$lastCell = 11
$startRow, $model, $mac, $nOF, $ext = 1, 1, 5, 6, 7

$excel = New-Object -ComObject excel.application
$wb = $excel.workbooks.open("H:\Strike Network\Phones\phones.xlsx")
$sh = $wb.Sheets.Item(1)
$endRow = $sh.UsedRange.SpecialCells($lastCell).Row

$phoneData = for ($i=1; $i -le $endRow; $i++)
            {
                $pModel = $sh.Cells.Item($startRow,$model).Value2
                $pMAC = $sh.Cells.Item($startRow,$mac).Value2
                $nameOnPhone = $sh.Cells.Item($startRow,$nOF).Value2
                $extension = $sh.Cells.Item($startRow,$ext).Value2
                New-Object PSObject -Property @{ Model = $pModel; MAC = $pMAC; NameOnPhone = $nameOnPhone; Extension = $extension }
                $startRow++
            }

I used to have no issues adding information to an array with Add-Member but that was back in PSv2/3, and I've been away from it a while. Though the simple solution saved me manually configuring 100+ phones and extensions - which nobody wants to do.

How can a Javascript object refer to values in itself?

Because the statement defining obj hasn't finished, key1 doesn't exist yet. Consider this solution:

var obj = { key1: "it" };
obj.key2 = obj.key1 + ' ' + 'works!';
// obj.key2 is now 'it works!'

1 = false and 0 = true?

It is common for comparison functions to return 0 on "equals", so that they can also return a negative number for "less than" and a positive number for "greater than". strcmp() and memcmp() work like this.

It is, however, idiomatic for zero to be false and nonzero to be true, because this is how the C flow control and logical boolean operators work. So it might be that the return values chosen for this function are fine, but it is the function's name that is in error (it should really just be called compare() or similar).

Force decimal point instead of comma in HTML5 number input (client-side)

Use lang attribut on the input. Locale on my web app fr_FR, lang="en_EN" on the input number and i can use indifferently a comma or a dot. Firefox always display a dot, Chrome display a comma. But both separtor are valid.

Spring RestTemplate - how to enable full debugging/logging of requests/responses?

So many responses here require coding changes and customized classes and it really is not necessary. Gte a debugging proxy such as fiddler and set your java environment to use the proxy on the command line (-Dhttp.proxyHost and -Dhttp.proxyPort) then run fiddler and you can see the requests and responses in their entirety. Also comes with many ancillary advantages such as the ability to tinker with the results and responses before and after they are sent to run experiments before committing to modification of the server.

Last bit of an issue that can come up is if you must use HTTPS, you will need to export the SSL cert from fiddler and import it into the java keystore (cacerts) hint: default java keystore password is usually "changeit".

Why is super.super.method(); not allowed in Java?

If you think you are going to be needing the superclass, you could reference it in a variable for that class. For example:

public class Foo
{
  public int getNumber()
  {
    return 0;
  }
}

public class SuperFoo extends Foo
{
  public static Foo superClass = new Foo();
  public int getNumber()
  {
    return 1;
  }
}

public class UltraFoo extends Foo
{
  public static void main(String[] args)
  {
    System.out.println(new UltraFoo.getNumber());
    System.out.println(new SuperFoo().getNumber());
    System.out.println(new SuperFoo().superClass.getNumber());
  }
  public int getNumber()
  {
    return 2;
  }
}

Should print out:

2
1
0

How do I POST XML data to a webservice with Postman?

Send XML requests with the raw data type, then set the Content-Type to text/xml.

  1. After creating a request, use the dropdown to change the request type to POST.

    Set request type to POST

  2. Open the Body tab and check the data type for raw.

    Setting data type to raw

  3. Open the Content-Type selection box that appears to the right and select either XML (application/xml) or XML (text/xml)

    Selecting content-type text/xml

  4. Enter your raw XML data into the input field below

    Example of XML request in Postman

  5. Click Send to submit your XML Request to the specified server.

    Clicking the Send button

XML Error: There are multiple root elements

You can do it without modifying the XML stream: Tell the XmlReader to not be so picky. Setting the XmlReaderSettings.ConformanceLevel to ConformanceLevel.Fragment will let the parser ignore the fact that there is no root node.

        XmlReaderSettings settings = new XmlReaderSettings();
        settings.ConformanceLevel = ConformanceLevel.Fragment;
        using (XmlReader reader = XmlReader.Create(tr,settings))
        {
             ...
        }

Now you can parse something like this (which is an real time XML stream, where it is impossible to wrap with a node).

Executing JavaScript after X seconds

I believe you are looking for the setTimeout function.

To make your code a little neater, define a separate function for onclick in a <script> block:

function myClick() {
  setTimeout(
    function() {
      document.getElementById('div1').style.display='none';
      document.getElementById('div2').style.display='none';
    }, 5000);
}

then call your function from onclick

onclick="myClick();"

Put text at bottom of div

I think that's better to use flex boxes (compatibility) than the absolute position. Here's example from me in pure css.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.container{_x000D_
  background-color:green;_x000D_
  height:500px;_x000D_

Why does modern Perl avoid UTF-8 by default?

You should enable the unicode strings feature, and this is the default if you use v5.14;

You should not really use unicode identifiers esp. for foreign code via utf8 as they are insecure in perl5, only cperl got that right. See e.g. http://perl11.org/blog/unicode-identifiers.html

Regarding utf8 for your filehandles/streams: You need decide by yourself the encoding of your external data. A library cannot know that, and since not even libc supports utf8, proper utf8 data is rare. There's more wtf8, the windows aberration of utf8 around.

BTW: Moose is not really "Modern Perl", they just hijacked the name. Moose is perfect Larry Wall-style postmodern perl mixed with Bjarne Stroustrup-style everything goes, with an eclectic aberration of proper perl6 syntax, e.g. using strings for variable names, horrible fields syntax, and a very immature naive implementation which is 10x slower than a proper implementation. cperl and perl6 are the true modern perls, where form follows function, and the implementation is reduced and optimized.

How to sort an array based on the length of each element?

If you want to preserve the order of the element with the same length as the original array, use bubble sort.

Input = ["ab","cdc","abcd","de"];

Output  = ["ab","cd","cdc","abcd"]

Function:

function bubbleSort(strArray){
  const arrayLength = Object.keys(strArray).length;
    var swapp;
    var newLen = arrayLength-1;
    var sortedStrArrByLenght=strArray;
    do {
        swapp = false;
        for (var i=0; i < newLen; i++)
        {
            if (sortedStrArrByLenght[i].length > sortedStrArrByLenght[i+1].length)
            {
               var temp = sortedStrArrByLenght[i];
               sortedStrArrByLenght[i] = sortedStrArrByLenght[i+1];
               sortedStrArrByLenght[i+1] = temp;
               swapp = true;
            }
        }
        newLen--;
    } while (swap);
  return sortedStrArrByLenght;
}

Git: add vs push vs commit

I was confused about what 'add' really does. I just read a very enlightening paragraph from the book Git Pro that I'd like to add here, because it clarifies things

“It turns out that Git stages a file exactly as it is when you run the git add command. If you commit now, the version of benchmarks.rb as it was when you last ran the git add command is how it will go into the commit, not the version of the file as it looks in your working directory when you run git commit. If you modify a file after you run git add, you have to run git add again to stage the latest version of the file:”

What port number does SOAP use?

SOAP (communication protocol) for communication between applications. Uses HTTP (port 80) or SMTP ( port 25 or 2525 ), for message negotiation and transmission.

Convert Pandas Series to DateTime in a DataFrame

Some handy script:

hour = df['assess_time'].dt.hour.values[0]

TypeError: 'int' object is not subscriptable

Try this instead:

sumall = summ + sumd + sumy
print "The sum of your numbers is", sumall
sumall = str(sumall) # add this line
sumln = (int(sumall[0])+int(sumall[1]))
print "Your lucky number is", sumln

sumall is a number, and you can't access its digits using the subscript notation (sumall[0], sumall[1]). For that to work, you'll need to transform it back to a string.

AngularJs directive not updating another directive's scope

Just wondering why you are using 2 directives?

It seems like, in this case it would be more straightforward to have a controller as the parent - handle adding the data from your service to its $scope, and pass the model you need from there into your warrantyDirective.

Or for that matter, you could use 0 directives to achieve the same result. (ie. move all functionality out of the separate directives and into a single controller).

It doesn't look like you're doing any explicit DOM transformation here, so in this case, perhaps using 2 directives is overcomplicating things.

Alternatively, have a look at the Angular documentation for directives: http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/directive The very last example at the bottom of the page explains how to wire up dependent directives.

Plotting a list of (x, y) coordinates in python matplotlib

If you want to plot a single line connecting all the points in the list

plt.plot(li[:])

plt.show()

This will plot a line connecting all the pairs in the list as points on a Cartesian plane from the starting of the list to the end. I hope that this is what you wanted.

How to read a Parquet file into Pandas DataFrame?

Aside from pandas, Apache pyarrow also provides way to transform parquet to dataframe

The code is simple, just type:

import pyarrow.parquet as pq

df = pq.read_table(source=your_file_path).to_pandas()

For more information, see the document from Apache pyarrow Reading and Writing Single Files

How to remove the bottom border of a box with CSS

You seem to misunderstand the box model - in CSS you provide points for the top and left and then width and height - these are all that are needed for a box to be placed with exact measurements.

The width property is what your C-D is, but it is also what A-B is. If you omit it, the div will not have a defined width and the width will be defined by its contents.

Update (following the comments on the question:

Add a border-bottom-style: none; to your CSS to remove this style from the bottom only.

Easy way to convert a unicode list to a list containing python strings?

Encode each value in the list to a string:

[x.encode('UTF8') for x in EmployeeList]

You need to pick a valid encoding; don't use str() as that'll use the system default (for Python 2 that's ASCII) which will not encode all possible codepoints in a Unicode value.

UTF-8 is capable of encoding all of the Unicode standard, but any codepoint outside the ASCII range will lead to multiple bytes per character.

However, if all you want to do is test for a specific string, test for a unicode string and Python won't have to auto-encode all values when testing for that:

u'1001' in EmployeeList.values()

Re-ordering columns in pandas dataframe based on column name

The sort method and sorted function allow you to provide a custom function to extract the key used for comparison:

>>> ls = ['Q1.3', 'Q6.1', 'Q1.2']
>>> sorted(ls, key=lambda x: float(x[1:]))
['Q1.2', 'Q1.3', 'Q6.1']

Global variables in Javascript across multiple files

Hi to pass values from one js file to another js file we can use Local storage concept

<body>
<script src="two.js"></script>
<script src="three.js"></script>
<button onclick="myFunction()">Click me</button>
<p id="demo"></p>
</body>

Two.js file

function myFunction() {
var test =localStorage.name;

 alert(test);
}

Three.js File

localStorage.name = 1;

Comments in Android Layout xml

XML comments start with <!-- and end with -->.

For example:

npm install -g less does not work: EACCES: permission denied

Using sudo is not recommended. It may give you permission issue later. While the above works, I am not a fan of changing folders owned by root to be writable for users, although it may only be an issue with multiple users. To work around that, you could use a group, with 'npm users' but that is also more administrative overhead. See here for the options to deal with permissions from the documentation: https://docs.npmjs.com/getting-started/fixing-npm-permissions

I would go for option 2:

To minimize the chance of permissions errors, you can configure npm to use a different directory. In this example, it will be a hidden directory on your home folder.

Make a directory for global installations:

 mkdir ~/.npm-global

Configure npm to use the new directory path:

 npm config set prefix '~/.npm-global'

Open or create a ~/.profile file and add this line:

 export PATH=~/.npm-global/bin:$PATH

Back on the command line, update your system variables:

 source ~/.profile

Test: Download a package globally without using sudo.

npm install -g jshint

If still show permission error run (mac os):

sudo chown -R $USER ~/.npm-global

This works with the default ubuntu install of:

sudo apt-get install nodejs npm

I recommend nvm if you want more flexibility in managing versions: https://github.com/creationix/nvm

On MacOS use brew, it should work without sudo out of the box if you're on a recent npm version. Enjoy :)

Escaping HTML strings with jQuery

If you're escaping for HTML, there are only three that I can think of that would be really necessary:

html.replace(/&/g, "&amp;").replace(/</g, "&lt;").replace(/>/g, "&gt;");

Depending on your use case, you might also need to do things like " to &quot;. If the list got big enough, I'd just use an array:

var escaped = html;
var findReplace = [[/&/g, "&amp;"], [/</g, "&lt;"], [/>/g, "&gt;"], [/"/g, "&quot;"]]
for(var item in findReplace)
    escaped = escaped.replace(findReplace[item][0], findReplace[item][1]);

encodeURIComponent() will only escape it for URLs, not for HTML.

How to fix symbol lookup error: undefined symbol errors in a cluster environment

After two dozens of comments to understand the situation, it was found that the libhdf5.so.7 was actually a symlink (with several levels of indirection) to a file that was not shared between the queued processes and the interactive processes. This means even though the symlink itself lies on a shared filesystem, the contents of the file do not and as a result the process was seeing different versions of the library.

For future reference: other than checking LD_LIBRARY_PATH, it's always a good idea to check a library with nm -D to see if the symbols actually exist. In this case it was found that they do exist in interactive mode but not when run in the queue. A quick md5sum revealed that the files were actually different.

What's the "average" requests per second for a production web application?

OpenStreetMap seems to have 10-20 per second

Wikipedia seems to be 30000 to 70000 per second spread over 300 servers (100 to 200 requests per second per machine, most of which is caches)

Geograph is getting 7000 images per week (1 upload per 95 seconds)

Connect Android to WiFi Enterprise network EAP(PEAP)

Finally, I've defeated my CiSCO EAP-FAST corporate wifi network, and all our Android devices are now able to connect to it.

The walk-around I've performed in order to gain access to this kind of networks from an Android device are easiest than you can imagine.

There's a Wifi Config Editor in the Google Play Store you can use to "activate" the secondary CISCO Protocols when you are setting up a EAP wifi connection.

Its name is Wifi Config Advanced Editor.

  • First, you have to setup your wireless network manually as close as you can to your "official" corporate wifi parameters.

  • Save it.

  • Go to the WCE and edit the parameters of the network you have created in the previous step.

  • There are 3 or 4 series of settings you should activate in order to force the Android device to use them as a way to connect (the main site I think you want to visit is Enterprise Configuration, but don't forget to check all the parameters to change them if needed.
    As a suggestion, even if you have a WPA2 EAP-FAST Cipher, try LEAP in your setup. It worked for me as a charm.

  • When you finished to edit the config, go to the main Android wifi controller, and force to connect to this network.

  • Do not Edit the network again with the Android wifi interface.

I have tested it on Samsung Galaxy 1 and 2, Note mobile devices, and on a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet.
