Programs & Examples On #Identity insert

`IDENTITY_INSERT` is a Sql Server database option which permits values for an identity column on a table to be explicitly specified during an Insert operation.

How to pass a null variable to a SQL Stored Procedure from C#.net code

Use DBNull.Value Better still, make your stored procedure parameters have defaults of NULL. Or use a Nullable<DateTime> parameter if the parameter will sometimes be a valid DateTime object

How to pad zeroes to a string?

When using Python >= 3.6, the cleanest way is to use f-strings with string formatting:

>>> s = f"{1:08}"  # inline with int
>>> s
'00000001'
>>> s = f"{'1':0>8}"  # inline with str
>>> s
'00000001'
>>> n = 1
>>> s = f"{n:08}"  # int variable
>>> s
'00000001'
>>> c = "1"
>>> s = f"{c:0>8}"  # str variable
>>> s
'00000001'

I would prefer formatting with an int, since only then the sign is handled correctly:

>>> f"{-1:08}"
'-0000001'

>>> f"{1:+08}"
'+0000001'

>>> f"{'-1':0>8}"
'000000-1'

enum - getting value of enum on string conversion

You are printing the enum object. Use the .value attribute if you wanted just to print that:

print(D.x.value)

See the Programmatic access to enumeration members and their attributes section:

If you have an enum member and need its name or value:

>>>
>>> member = Color.red
>>> member.name
'red'
>>> member.value
1

You could add a __str__ method to your enum, if all you wanted was to provide a custom string representation:

class D(Enum):
    def __str__(self):
        return str(self.value)

    x = 1
    y = 2

Demo:

>>> from enum import Enum
>>> class D(Enum):
...     def __str__(self):
...         return str(self.value)
...     x = 1
...     y = 2
...
>>> D.x
<D.x: 1>
>>> print(D.x)
1

Specifying and saving a figure with exact size in pixels

Comparison of different approaches

Here is a quick comparison of some of the approaches I've tried with images showing what the give.

Baseline example without trying to set the image dimensions

Just to have a comparison point:

base.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
print('fig.dpi = {}'.format(fig.dpi))
print('fig.get_size_inches() = ' + str(fig.get_size_inches())
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(0., 60., 'Hello', fontdict=dict(size=25))
plt.savefig('base.png', format='png')

run:

./base.py
identify base.png

outputs:

fig.dpi = 100.0
fig.get_size_inches() = [6.4 4.8]
base.png PNG 640x480 640x480+0+0 8-bit sRGB 13064B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

My best approach so far: plt.savefig(dpi=h/fig.get_size_inches()[1] height-only control

I think this is what I'll go with most of the time, as it is simple and scales:

get_size.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

height = int(sys.argv[1])
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(0., 60., 'Hello', fontdict=dict(size=25))
plt.savefig(
    'get_size.png',
    format='png',
    dpi=height/fig.get_size_inches()[1]
)

run:

./get_size.py 431

outputs:

get_size.png PNG 574x431 574x431+0+0 8-bit sRGB 10058B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

and

./get_size.py 1293

outputs:

main.png PNG 1724x1293 1724x1293+0+0 8-bit sRGB 46709B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

I tend to set just the height because I'm usually most concerned about how much vertical space the image is going to take up in the middle of my text.

plt.savefig(bbox_inches='tight' changes image size

I always feel that there is too much white space around images, and tended to add bbox_inches='tight' from: Removing white space around a saved image in matplotlib

However, that works by cropping the image, and you won't get the desired sizes with it.

Instead, this other approach proposed in the same question seems to work well:

plt.tight_layout(pad=1)
plt.savefig(...

which gives the exact desired height for height equals 431:

enter image description here

Fixed height, set_aspect, automatically sized width and small margins

Ermmm, set_aspect messes things up again and prevents plt.tight_layout from actually removing the margins...

Asked at: How to obtain a fixed height in pixels, fixed data x/y aspect ratio and automatically remove remove horizontal whitespace margin in Matplotlib?

plt.savefig(dpi=h/fig.get_size_inches()[1] + width control

If you really need a specific width in addition to height, this seems to work OK:

width.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

h = int(sys.argv[1])
w = int(sys.argv[2])
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
wi, hi = fig.get_size_inches()
fig.set_size_inches(hi*(w/h), hi)
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(0., 60., 'Hello', fontdict=dict(size=25))
plt.savefig(
    'width.png',
    format='png',
    dpi=h/hi
)

run:

./width.py 431 869

output:

width.png PNG 869x431 869x431+0+0 8-bit sRGB 10965B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

and for a small width:

./width.py 431 869

output:

width.png PNG 211x431 211x431+0+0 8-bit sRGB 6949B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

So it does seem that fonts are scaling correctly, we just get some trouble for very small widths with labels getting cut off, e.g. the 100 on the top left.

I managed to work around those with Removing white space around a saved image in matplotlib

plt.tight_layout(pad=1)

which gives:

width.png PNG 211x431 211x431+0+0 8-bit sRGB 7134B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

From this, we also see that tight_layout removes a lot of the empty space at the top of the image, so I just generally always use it.

Fixed magic base height, dpi on fig.set_size_inches and plt.savefig(dpi= scaling

I believe that this is equivalent to the approach mentioned at: https://stackoverflow.com/a/13714720/895245

magic.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

magic_height = 300
w = int(sys.argv[1])
h = int(sys.argv[2])
dpi = 80
fig, ax = plt.subplots(dpi=dpi)
fig.set_size_inches(magic_height*w/(h*dpi), magic_height/dpi)
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(0., 60., 'Hello', fontdict=dict(size=25))
plt.savefig(
    'magic.png',
    format='png',
    dpi=h/magic_height*dpi,
)

run:

./magic.py 431 231

outputs:

magic.png PNG 431x231 431x231+0+0 8-bit sRGB 7923B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

And to see if it scales nicely:

./magic.py 1291 693

outputs:

magic.png PNG 1291x693 1291x693+0+0 8-bit sRGB 25013B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

So we see that this approach also does work well. The only problem I have with it is that you have to set that magic_height parameter or equivalent.

Fixed DPI + set_size_inches

This approach gave a slightly wrong pixel size, and it makes it is hard to scale everything seamlessly.

set_size_inches.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

w = int(sys.argv[1])
h = int(sys.argv[2])
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
fig.set_size_inches(w/fig.dpi, h/fig.dpi)
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(
    0,
    60.,
    'Hello',
    # Keep font size fixed independently of DPI.
    # https://stackoverflow.com/questions/39395616/matplotlib-change-figsize-but-keep-fontsize-constant
    fontdict=dict(size=10*h/fig.dpi),
)
plt.savefig(
    'set_size_inches.png',
    format='png',
)

run:

./set_size_inches.py 431 231

outputs:

set_size_inches.png PNG 430x231 430x231+0+0 8-bit sRGB 8078B 0.000u 0:00.000

so the height is slightly off, and the image:

enter image description here

The pixel sizes are also correct if I make it 3 times larger:

./set_size_inches.py 1291 693

outputs:

set_size_inches.png PNG 1291x693 1291x693+0+0 8-bit sRGB 19798B 0.000u 0:00.000

enter image description here

We understand from this however that for this approach to scale nicely, you need to make every DPI-dependant setting proportional to the size in inches.

In the previous example, we only made the "Hello" text proportional, and it did retain its height between 60 and 80 as we'd expect. But everything for which we didn't do that, looks tiny, including:

  • line width of axes
  • tick labels
  • point markers

SVG

I could not find how to set it for SVG images, my approaches only worked for PNG e.g.:

get_size_svg.py

#!/usr/bin/env python3

import sys

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib as mpl

height = int(sys.argv[1])
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
t = np.arange(-10., 10., 1.)
plt.plot(t, t, '.')
plt.plot(t, t**2, '.')
ax.text(0., 60., 'Hello', fontdict=dict(size=25))
plt.savefig(
    'get_size_svg.svg',
    format='svg',
    dpi=height/fig.get_size_inches()[1]
)

run:

./get_size_svg.py 431

and the generated output contains:

<svg height="345.6pt" version="1.1" viewBox="0 0 460.8 345.6" width="460.8pt"

and identify says:

get_size_svg.svg SVG 614x461 614x461+0+0 8-bit sRGB 17094B 0.000u 0:00.000

and if I open it in Chromium 86 the browser debug tools mouse image hover confirm that height as 460.79.

But of course, since SVG is a vector format, everything should in theory scale, so you can just convert to any fixed sized format without loss of resolution, e.g.:

inkscape -h 431 get_size_svg.svg -b FFF -e get_size_svg.png

gives the exact height:

TODO regenerate image, messed up the upload somehow.

I use Inkscape instead of Imagemagick's convert here because you need to mess with -density as well to get sharp SVG resizes with ImageMagick:

And setting <img height="" on the HTML should also just work for the browser.

Tested on matplotlib==3.2.2.

Setting WPF image source in code

You just missed a little bit.

To get an embedded resource from any assembly, you have to mention the assembly name with your file name as I have mentioned here:

Assembly asm = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly();
Stream iconStream = asm.GetManifestResourceStream(asm.GetName().Name + "." + "Desert.jpg");
BitmapImage bitmap = new BitmapImage();
bitmap.BeginInit();
bitmap.StreamSource = iconStream;
bitmap.EndInit();
image1.Source = bitmap;

Filling a List with all enum values in Java

List<Something> result = new ArrayList<Something>(all);

EnumSet is a Java Collection, as it implements the Set interface:

public interface Set<E> extends Collection<E>

So anything you can do with a Collection you can do with an EnumSet.

Bootstrap 3 Navbar Collapse

I had the same problem today.

Bootstrap 4

It's a native functionality: https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.0/components/navbar/#responsive-behaviors

You have to use .navbar-expand{-sm|-md|-lg|-xl} classes:

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand-md navbar-light bg-light">

Bootstrap 3

@media (max-width: 991px) {
    .navbar-header {
        float: none;
    }
    .navbar-toggle {
        display: block;
    }
    .navbar-collapse {
        border-top: 1px solid transparent;
        box-shadow: inset 0 1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,0.1);
    }
    .navbar-collapse.collapse {
        display: none!important;
    }
    .navbar-nav {
        float: none!important;
        margin: 7.5px -15px;
    }
    .navbar-nav>li {
        float: none;
    }
    .navbar-nav>li>a {
        padding-top: 10px;
        padding-bottom: 10px;
    }
    .navbar-text {
        float: none;
        margin: 15px 0;
    }
    /* since 3.1.0 */
    .navbar-collapse.collapse.in {
        display: block!important;
    }
    .collapsing {
        overflow: hidden!important;
    }
}

Just change 991px by 1199px for md sizes.

Process.start: how to get the output?

  1. It is possible to get the command line shell output of a process as described here : http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/edwinlima/SystemDiagnosticProcess12052005035444AM/SystemDiagnosticProcess.aspx

  2. This depends on mencoder. If it ouputs this status on the command line then yes :)

How can I read an input string of unknown length?

Safer and faster (doubling capacity) version:

  int c;
  size_t len = 0;
  printf("%s", prompt);
  while (EOF != (c = getchar()) && c != '\r' && c != '\n') {
    str[len++] = c;
    if(len == size) str = realloc(str, sizeof(char) * (size *= 2));

Set Font Color, Font Face and Font Size in PHPExcel

I recommend you start reading the documentation (4.6.18. Formatting cells). When applying a lot of formatting it's better to use applyFromArray() According to the documentation this method is also suppose to be faster when you're setting many style properties. There's an annex where you can find all the possible keys for this function.

This will work for you:

$phpExcel = new PHPExcel();

$styleArray = array(
    'font'  => array(
        'bold'  => true,
        'color' => array('rgb' => 'FF0000'),
        'size'  => 15,
        'name'  => 'Verdana'
    ));

$phpExcel->getActiveSheet()->getCell('A1')->setValue('Some text');
$phpExcel->getActiveSheet()->getStyle('A1')->applyFromArray($styleArray);

To apply font style to complete excel document:

 $styleArray = array(
   'font'  => array(
        'bold'  => true,
        'color' => array('rgb' => 'FF0000'),
        'size'  => 15,
        'name'  => 'Verdana'
    ));
 $phpExcel->getDefaultStyle()
    ->applyFromArray($styleArray);

Reading InputStream as UTF-8

Solved my own problem. This line:

BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(url.openStream()));

needs to be:

BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(url.openStream(), "UTF-8"));

or since Java 7:

BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(url.openStream(), StandardCharsets.UTF_8));

Create database from command line

As some of the answers point out, createdb is a command line utility that could be used to create database.

Assuming you have a user named dbuser, the following command could be used to create a database and provide access to dbuser:

createdb -h localhost -p 5432 -U dbuser testdb

Replace localhost with your correct DB host name, 5432 with correct DB port, and testdb with the database name you want to create.

Now psql could be used to connect to this newly created database:

psql -h localhost -p 5432 -U dbuser -d testdb

Tested with createdb and psql versions 9.4.15.

What is the difference between required and ng-required?

I would like to make a addon for tiago's answer:

Suppose you're hiding element using ng-show and adding a required attribute on the same:

<div ng-show="false">
    <input required name="something" ng-model="name"/>
</div>

will throw an error something like :

An invalid form control with name='' is not focusable

This is because you just cannot impose required validation on hidden elements. Using ng-required makes it easier to conditionally apply required validation which is just awesome!!

Freeze the top row for an html table only (Fixed Table Header Scrolling)

Using css zebra styling

Copy paste this example and see the header fixed.

       <style>
       .zebra tr:nth-child(odd){
       background:white;
       color:black;
       }

       .zebra tr:nth-child(even){
       background: grey;
       color:black;
       }

      .zebra tr:nth-child(1) {
       background:black;
       color:yellow;
       position: fixed;
       margin:-30px 0px 0px 0px;
       }
       </style>

   <DIV  id= "stripped_div"

         class= "zebra"
         style = "
            border:solid 1px red;
            height:15px;
            width:200px;
            overflow-x:none;
            overflow-y:scroll;
            padding:30px 0px 0px 0px;"
            >

                <table>
                   <tr >
                       <td>Name:</td>
                       <td>Age:</td>
                   </tr>
                    <tr >
                       <td>Peter</td>
                       <td>10</td>
                   </tr>
                </table>

    </DIV>

Notice the top padding of of 30px in the div leaves space that is utilized by the 1st row of stripped data ie tr:nth-child(1) that is "fixed position" and formatted to a margin of -30px

new DateTime() vs default(DateTime)

The answer is no. Keep in mind that in both cases, mdDate.Kind = DateTimeKind.Unspecified.

Therefore it may be better to do the following:

DateTime myDate = new DateTime(1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, DateTimeKind.Utc);

The myDate.Kind property is readonly, so it cannot be changed after the constructor is called.

How to check if a specific key is present in a hash or not?

In latest Ruby versions Hash instance has a key? method:

{a: 1}.key?(:a)

How do I get the Git commit count?

git shortlog by itself does not address the original question of total number of commits (not grouped by author)

That is true, and git rev-list HEAD --count remains the simplest answer.

However, with Git 2.29 (Q4 2020), "git shortlog"(man) has become more precise.
It has been taught to group commits by the contents of the trailer lines, like "Reviewed-by:", "Coauthored-by:", etc.

See commit 63d24fa, commit 56d5dde, commit 87abb96, commit f17b0b9, commit 47beb37, commit f0939a0, commit 92338c4 (27 Sep 2020), and commit 45d93eb (25 Sep 2020) by Jeff King (peff).
(Merged by Junio C Hamano -- gitster -- in commit 2fa8aac, 04 Oct 2020)

shortlog: allow multiple groups to be specified

Signed-off-by: Jeff King

Now that shortlog supports reading from trailers, it can be useful to combine counts from multiple trailers, or between trailers and authors.
This can be done manually by post-processing the output from multiple runs, but it's non-trivial to make sure that each name/commit pair is counted only once.

This patch teaches shortlog to accept multiple --group options on the command line, and pull data from all of them.

That makes it possible to run:

git shortlog -ns --group=author --group=trailer:co-authored-by

to get a shortlog that counts authors and co-authors equally.

The implementation is mostly straightforward. The "group" enum becomes a bitfield, and the trailer key becomes a list.
I didn't bother implementing the multi-group semantics for reading from stdin. It would be possible to do, but the existing matching code makes it awkward, and I doubt anybody cares.

The duplicate suppression we used for trailers now covers authors and committers as well (though in non-trailer single-group mode we can skip the hash insertion and lookup, since we only see one value per commit).

There is one subtlety: we now care about the case when no group bit is set (in which case we default to showing the author).
The caller in builtin/log.c needs to be adapted to ask explicitly for authors, rather than relying on shortlog_init(). It would be possible with some gymnastics to make this keep working as-is, but it's not worth it for a single caller.

git shortlog now includes in its man page:

--group=<type>

Group commits based on <type>. If no --group option is specified, the default is author. <type> is one of:

  • author, commits are grouped by author
  • committer, commits are grouped by committer (the same as -c)

This is an alias for --group=committer.

git shortlog now also includes in its man page:

If --group is specified multiple times, commits are counted under each value (but again, only once per unique value in that commit). For example, git shortlog --group=author --group=trailer:co-authored-by counts both authors and co-authors.

Triggering a checkbox value changed event in DataGridView

I found a combination of the first two answers gave me what I needed. I used the CurrentCellDirtyStateChanged event and inspected the EditedFormattedValue.

private void dgv_CurrentCellDirtyStateChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   DataGridView dgv = (DataGridView)sender;
   DataGridViewCell cell = dgv.CurrentCell;
   if (cell.RowIndex >= 0 && cell.ColumnIndex == 3) // My checkbox column
     {
        // If checkbox checked, copy value from col 1 to col 2

Is there a MySQL option/feature to track history of changes to records?

Why not simply use bin log files? If the replication is set on the Mysql server, and binlog file format is set to ROW, then all the changes could be captured.

A good python library called noplay can be used. More info here.

Is the order of elements in a JSON list preserved?

Practically speaking, if the keys were of type NaN, the browser will not change the order.

The following script will output "One", "Two", "Three":

var foo={"3":"Three", "1":"One", "2":"Two"};
for(bar in foo) {
    alert(foo[bar]);
}

Whereas the following script will output "Three", "One", "Two":

var foo={"@3":"Three", "@1":"One", "@2":"Two"};
for(bar in foo) {
    alert(foo[bar]);
}

Convert a String representation of a Dictionary to a dictionary?

string = "{'server1':'value','server2':'value'}"

#Now removing { and }
s = string.replace("{" ,"")
finalstring = s.replace("}" , "")

#Splitting the string based on , we get key value pairs
list = finalstring.split(",")

dictionary ={}
for i in list:
    #Get Key Value pairs separately to store in dictionary
    keyvalue = i.split(":")

    #Replacing the single quotes in the leading.
    m= keyvalue[0].strip('\'')
    m = m.replace("\"", "")
    dictionary[m] = keyvalue[1].strip('"\'')

print dictionary

"Failed to install the following Android SDK packages as some licences have not been accepted" error

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g789PvvW4qo really helped me. What had done is open SDK Manager and download any new SDK Platform (dont worry it wont affect your desired api level).

Because with downlaoding any SDK Platforms(API level), you should accept licences. That's the trick worked for me.

Should I use <i> tag for icons instead of <span>?

My guess: Because Twitter sees the need to support legacy browsers, otherwise they would be using the :before / :after pseudo-elements.

Legacy browsers don't support those pseudo-elements I mentioned, so they need to use an actual HTML element for the icons, and since icons don't have an 'exclusive' tag, they just went with the <i> tag, and all browsers support that tag.

They could've certainly used a <span>, just like you are (which is TOTALLY fine), but probably for the reason I mentioned above plus the ones mentioned by Quentin, is also why Bootstrap is using the <i> tag.

It's a bad practice when you use extra markup for styling reasons, that's why pseudo-elements were invented, to separate content from style... but when you see the need to support legacy browsers, sometimes you're forced to do these kind of things.

PS. The fact that icons start with an 'i' and that there's an <i> tag, is completely coincidental.

Pandas sort by group aggregate and column

Here's a more concise approach...

df['a_bsum'] = df.groupby('A')['B'].transform(sum)
df.sort(['a_bsum','C'], ascending=[True, False]).drop('a_bsum', axis=1)

The first line adds a column to the data frame with the groupwise sum. The second line performs the sort and then removes the extra column.

Result:

    A       B           C
5   baz     -2.301539   True
2   baz     -0.528172   False
1   bar     -0.611756   True
4   bar      0.865408   False
3   foo     -1.072969   True
0   foo      1.624345   False

NOTE: sort is deprecated, use sort_values instead

Display only date and no time

You can apply custom date time format using ToString like:

DateTime.Now.Date.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy");

Further reading on DateTime.ToString formats pattern can be found here and here.

Edit: After your question edit, Just like what other suggested you should apply the date format at your view:

model.Returndate = DateTime.Now.Date;

@Html.EditorFor(model => model.Returndate.Date.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy"))

How to automatically import data from uploaded CSV or XLS file into Google Sheets

You can get Google Drive to automatically convert csv files to Google Sheets by appending

?convert=true

to the end of the api url you are calling.

EDIT: Here is the documentation on available parameters: https://developers.google.com/drive/v2/reference/files/insert

Also, while searching for the above link, I found this question has already been answered here:

Calculate a Running Total in SQL Server

I believe a running total can be achieved using the simple INNER JOIN operation below.

SELECT
     ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SomeDate) AS OrderID
    ,rt.*
INTO
    #tmp
FROM
    (
        SELECT 45 AS ID, CAST('01-01-2009' AS DATETIME) AS SomeDate, 3 AS SomeValue
        UNION ALL
        SELECT 23, CAST('01-08-2009' AS DATETIME), 5
        UNION ALL
        SELECT 12, CAST('02-02-2009' AS DATETIME), 0
        UNION ALL
        SELECT 77, CAST('02-14-2009' AS DATETIME), 7
        UNION ALL
        SELECT 39, CAST('02-20-2009' AS DATETIME), 34
        UNION ALL
        SELECT 33, CAST('03-02-2009' AS DATETIME), 6
    ) rt

SELECT
     t1.ID
    ,t1.SomeDate
    ,t1.SomeValue
    ,SUM(t2.SomeValue) AS RunningTotal
FROM
    #tmp t1
    JOIN #tmp t2
        ON t2.OrderID <= t1.OrderID
GROUP BY
     t1.OrderID
    ,t1.ID
    ,t1.SomeDate
    ,t1.SomeValue
ORDER BY
    t1.OrderID

DROP TABLE #tmp

How to make sure docker's time syncs with that of the host?

If you are using boot2docker and ntp doesn't work inside the docker VM (you are behind a proxy which does not forward ntp packets) but your host is time-synced, you can run the following from your host:

docker-machine ssh default "sudo date -u $(date -u +%m%d%H%M%Y)"

This way you are sending your machine's current time (in UTC timezone) as a string to set the docker VM time using date (again in UTC timezone).

NOTE: in Windows, inside a bash shell (from the msys git), use:

docker-machine.exe ssh default "sudo date -u $(date -u +%m%d%H%M%Y)"

Downloading images with node.js

This is an extension to Cezary's answer. If you want to download it to a specific directory, use this. Also, use const instead of var. Its safe this way.

const fs = require('fs');
const request = require('request');
var download = function(uri, filename, callback){
  request.head(uri, function(err, res, body){
    request(uri).pipe(fs.createWriteStream(filename)).on('close', callback);
  });
};

download('https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo3w.png', './images/google.png', function(){
  console.log('done');
});

java.sql.SQLException: - ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded

I faced the same problem (ORA-01000) today. I had a for loop in the try{}, to execute a SELECT statement in an Oracle DB many times, (each time changing a parameter), and in the finally{} I had my code to close Resultset, PreparedStatement and Connection as usual. But as soon as I reached a specific amount of loops (1000) I got the Oracle error about too many open cursors.

Based on the post by Andrew Alcock above, I made changes so that inside the loop, I closed each resultset and each statement after getting the data and before looping again, and that solved the problem.

Additionaly, the exact same problem occured in another loop of Insert Statements, in another Oracle DB (ORA-01000), this time after 300 statements. Again it was solved in the same way, so either the PreparedStatement or the ResultSet or both, count as open cursors until they are closed.

Finish all activities at a time

You can use the following code:

Intent i = new Intent(OldActivity.this, NewActivity.class);

i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK);

startActivity(i);

What is the difference between task and thread?

A task is something you want done.

A thread is one of the many possible workers which performs that task.

In .NET 4.0 terms, a Task represents an asynchronous operation. Thread(s) are used to complete that operation by breaking the work up into chunks and assigning to separate threads.

typeof !== "undefined" vs. != null

if (input == undefined) { ... }

works just fine. It is of course not a null comparison, but I usually find that if I need to distinguish between undefined and null, I actually rather need to distinguish between undefined and just any false value, so

else if (input) { ... }

does it.

If a program redefines undefined it is really braindead anyway.

The only reason I can think of was for IE4 compatibility, it did not understand the undefined keyword (which is not actually a keyword, unfortunately), but of course values could be undefined, so you had to have this:

var undefined;

and the comparison above would work just fine.

In your second example, you probably need double parentheses to make lint happy?

PHP get domain name

To answer your question, these should work as long as:

  • Your HTTP server passes these values along to PHP (I don't know any that don't)
  • You're not accessing the script via command line (CLI)

But, if I remember correctly, these values can be faked to an extent, so it's best not to rely on them.

My personal preference is to set the domain name as an environment variable in the apache2 virtual host:

# Virtual host
setEnv DOMAIN_NAME example.com

And read it in PHP:

// PHP
echo getenv(DOMAIN_NAME);

This, however, isn't applicable in all circumstances.

So .. quickest way is rename site config names ending in ".conf"

other notes on previous comments:

  • IncludeOptional wasn't introduced until apache 2.36 - making change above followed by restart on 2.2 will leave your server down!

  • also, version 2.2 a2ensite can't be hacked as described

as well, since your sites-available file is actually a configuration file, it should be named that way anyway..

In general do not restart services (webservers are one type of service):

  • folks can't find them if they are not running! Think linux not MS Windows..

Servers can run for many years - live update, reload config, etc.

The cloud doesn't mean you have to restart to load a configuration file.

  • When changing configuration of a service use "reload" not "restart".

  • restart stops the service then starts service - if there is a any problem in your change to the config, the service will not restart.

  • reload will give an error but the service never shuts down giving you a chance to fix the config error which could only be bad syntax.

 $url = ($url == '' ) ? $pageURL : $url; // setting a value in $url variable

 $params = 'select comment_count, share_count, like_count from link_stat where url = "'.$url.'"';
 $component = urlencode( $params );

 $fbLIkeAndSahre = json_decode( $this->file_get_content_curl( $url ) );
 $getFbStatus = $fbLIkeAndSahre->data['0'];
 return $getFbStatus->like_count;

preferredStatusBarStyle isn't called

If anyone is using a Navigation Controller and wants all of their navigation controllers to have the black style, you can write an extension to UINavigationController like this in Swift 3 and it will apply to all navigation controllers (instead of assigning it to one controller at a time).

extension UINavigationController {

    override open func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()

        self.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyle.black
    }

Here is one-liner to get absolute path to your Makefile file using shell syntax:

SHELL := /bin/bash
CWD := $(shell cd -P -- '$(shell dirname -- "$0")' && pwd -P)

And here is version without shell based on @0xff answer:

CWD := $(abspath $(patsubst %/,%,$(dir $(abspath $(lastword $(MAKEFILE_LIST))))))

Test it by printing it, like:

cwd:
        @echo $(CWD)

Why ModelState.IsValid always return false in mvc

"ModelState.IsValid" tells you that the model is consumed by the view (i.e. PaymentAdviceEntity) is satisfy all types of validation or not specified in the model properties by DataAnotation.

In this code the view does not bind any model properties. So if you put any DataAnotations or validation in model (i.e. PaymentAdviceEntity). then the validations are not satisfy. say if any properties in model is Name which makes required in model.Then the value of the property remains blank after post.So the model is not valid (i.e. ModelState.IsValid returns false). You need to remove the model level validations.

how to fix EXE4J_JAVA_HOME, No JVM could be found on your system error?

This has to be done during your exe4j configuration. In the fourth step of Exe4j wizard which is Executable Info select> Advanced options select 32-bit or 64-bit. This worked well for me. or else install both JDK tool-kits x64 and x32 in your machine.

How to set cornerRadius for only top-left and top-right corner of a UIView?

There is a super simple way of doing it. I found it on here.

view.clipsToBounds = true
view.layer.cornerRadius = 24
view.layer.maskedCorners = [.layerMinXMinYCorner, .layerMaxXMinYCorner]

It uses the stock cornerRadius property on the CALayer of a view. You just need to define the corners. layerMinXMinYCorner is top left layerMaxXMinYCorner is top right.

How to center align the cells of a UICollectionView?

{

    NSInteger numberOfCells = self.view.frame.size.width / SMEPGiPadViewControllerCellWidth;

how to use "AND", "OR" for RewriteCond on Apache?

Having trouble wrapping my head around this.

Have a rewrite rule with four conditions.
The first three conditions A, B, C are to be AND which is then OR with D

RewriteCond A       true
RewriteCond B       false
RewriteCond C [OR]  true
RewriteCond D       true
RewriteRule ...

But that seems to be an expression of A and B and (C or D) = false (don't rewrite)

How can I get to the desired expression? (A and B and C) or D = true (rewrite)

Preferably without using the additional steps of setting environment variables.

observing interpolated attributes: Use $observe to observe the value changes of attributes that contain interpolation (e.g. src="{{bar}}"). Not only is this very efficient but it's also the only way to easily get the actual value because during the linking phase the interpolation hasn't been evaluated yet and so the value is at this time set to undefined.

How to convert std::string to LPCSTR?

Converting is simple:

std::string myString;

LPCSTR lpMyString = myString.c_str();

One thing to be careful of here is that c_str does not return a copy of myString, but just a pointer to the character string that std::string wraps. If you want/need a copy you'll need to make one yourself using strcpy.

Warning: mysqli_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given in

The problem is your query returned false meaning there was an error in your query. After your query you could do the following:

if (!$result) {
    die(mysqli_error($link));
}

Or you could combine it with your query:

$results = mysqli_query($link, $query) or die(mysqli_error($link));

That will print out your error.

Also... you need to sanitize your input. You can't just take user input and put that into a query. Try this:

$query = "SELECT * FROM shopsy_db WHERE name LIKE '%" . mysqli_real_escape_string($link, $searchTerm) . "%'";

In reply to: Table 'sookehhh_shopsy_db.sookehhh_shopsy_db' doesn't exist

Are you sure the table name is sookehhh_shopsy_db? maybe it's really like users or something.

Can I rollback a transaction I've already committed? (data loss)

No, you can't undo, rollback or reverse a commit.

STOP THE DATABASE!

(Note: if you deleted the data directory off the filesystem, do NOT stop the database. The following advice applies to an accidental commit of a DELETE or similar, not an rm -rf /data/directory scenario).

If this data was important, STOP YOUR DATABASE NOW and do not restart it. Use pg_ctl stop -m immediate so that no checkpoint is run on shutdown.

You cannot roll back a transaction once it has commited. You will need to restore the data from backups, or use point-in-time recovery, which must have been set up before the accident happened.

If you didn't have any PITR / WAL archiving set up and don't have backups, you're in real trouble.

Urgent mitigation

Once your database is stopped, you should make a file system level copy of the whole data directory - the folder that contains base, pg_clog, etc. Copy all of it to a new location. Do not do anything to the copy in the new location, it is your only hope of recovering your data if you do not have backups. Make another copy on some removable storage if you can, and then unplug that storage from the computer. Remember, you need absolutely every part of the data directory, including pg_xlog etc. No part is unimportant.

Exactly how to make the copy depends on which operating system you're running. Where the data dir is depends on which OS you're running and how you installed PostgreSQL.

Ways some data could've survived

If you stop your DB quickly enough you might have a hope of recovering some data from the tables. That's because PostgreSQL uses multi-version concurrency control (MVCC) to manage concurrent access to its storage. Sometimes it will write new versions of the rows you update to the table, leaving the old ones in place but marked as "deleted". After a while autovaccum comes along and marks the rows as free space, so they can be overwritten by a later INSERT or UPDATE. Thus, the old versions of the UPDATEd rows might still be lying around, present but inaccessible.

Additionally, Pg writes in two phases. First data is written to the write-ahead log (WAL). Only once it's been written to the WAL and hit disk, it's then copied to the "heap" (the main tables), possibly overwriting old data that was there. The WAL content is copied to the main heap by the bgwriter and by periodic checkpoints. By default checkpoints happen every 5 minutes. If you manage to stop the database before a checkpoint has happened and stopped it by hard-killing it, pulling the plug on the machine, or using pg_ctl in immediate mode you might've captured the data from before the checkpoint happened, so your old data is more likely to still be in the heap.

Now that you have made a complete file-system-level copy of the data dir you can start your database back up if you really need to; the data will still be gone, but you've done what you can to give yourself some hope of maybe recovering it. Given the choice I'd probably keep the DB shut down just to be safe.

Recovery

You may now need to hire an expert in PostgreSQL's innards to assist you in a data recovery attempt. Be prepared to pay a professional for their time, possibly quite a bit of time.

I posted about this on the Pg mailing list, and ?????? ?????? linked to depesz's post on pg_dirtyread, which looks like just what you want, though it doesn't recover TOASTed data so it's of limited utility. Give it a try, if you're lucky it might work.

See: pg_dirtyread on GitHub.

I've removed what I'd written in this section as it's obsoleted by that tool.

See also PostgreSQL row storage fundamentals

Prevention

See my blog entry Preventing PostgreSQL database corruption.

On a semi-related side-note, if you were using two phase commit you could ROLLBACK PREPARED for a transction that was prepared for commit but not fully commited. That's about the closest you get to rolling back an already-committed transaction, and does not apply to your situation.

Hide/Show components in react native

//when you want to hide
this.setState({opacity: 0})

How to replace text in a column of a Pandas dataframe?

Use the vectorised str method replace:

In [30]:

df['range'] = df['range'].str.replace(',','-')
df
Out[30]:
      range
0    (2-30)
1  (50-290)

EDIT

So if we look at what you tried and why it didn't work:

df['range'].replace(',','-',inplace=True)

from the docs we see this desc:

str or regex: str: string exactly matching to_replace will be replaced with value

So because the str values do not match, no replacement occurs, compare with the following:

In [43]:

df = pd.DataFrame({'range':['(2,30)',',']})
df['range'].replace(',','-', inplace=True)
df['range']
Out[43]:
0    (2,30)
1         -
Name: range, dtype: object

here we get an exact match on the second row and the replacement occurs.

How can I open a popup window with a fixed size using the HREF tag?

I can't comment on Esben Skov Pedersen's answer directly, but using the following notation for links:

<a href="javascript:window.open('http://www.websiteofyourchoice.com');">Click here</a>

In Internet Explorer, the new browser window appears, but the current window navigates to a page which says "[Object]". To avoid this, simple put a "void(0)" behind the JavaScript function.

How to generate a random integer number from within a range

As said before modulo isn't sufficient because it skews the distribution. Heres my code which masks off bits and uses them to ensure the distribution isn't skewed.

static uint32_t randomInRange(uint32_t a,uint32_t b) {
    uint32_t v;
    uint32_t range;
    uint32_t upper;
    uint32_t lower;
    uint32_t mask;

    if(a == b) {
        return a;
    }

    if(a > b) {
        upper = a;
        lower = b;
    } else {
        upper = b;
        lower = a;
    }

    range = upper - lower;

    mask = 0;
    //XXX calculate range with log and mask? nah, too lazy :).
    while(1) {
        if(mask >= range) {
            break;
        }
        mask = (mask << 1) | 1;
    }

    while(1) {
        v = rand() & mask;
        if(v <= range) {
            return lower + v;
        }
    }

}

The following simple code lets you look at the distribution:

int main() {

    unsigned long long int i;

    unsigned int n = 10;
    unsigned int numbers[n];

    for (i = 0; i < n; i++) {
        numbers[i] = 0;
    }

    for (i = 0 ; i < 10000000 ; i++){
        uint32_t rand = random_in_range(0,n - 1);
        if(rand >= n){
            printf("bug: rand out of range %u\n",(unsigned int)rand);
            return 1;
        }
        numbers[rand] += 1;
    }

    for(i = 0; i < n; i++) {
        printf("%u: %u\n",i,numbers[i]);
    }

}

Python: json.loads returns items prefixing with 'u'

The u- prefix just means that you have a Unicode string. When you really use the string, it won't appear in your data. Don't be thrown by the printed output.

For example, try this:

print mail_accounts[0]["i"]

You won't see a u.

React-Native Button style not work

Only learning myself, but wrapping in a View may allow you to add styles around the button.

    }
  },

        title="Cool"
        onPress={() => alert('cool')}
      /></View>
    )
    })

You are right, it is simple. Run (admin password required):

It may be necessary to do this with admin privileges using sudo.

Why are my PowerShell scripts not running?

I was able to bypass this error by invoking PowerShell like this:

powershell -executionpolicy bypass -File .\MYSCRIPT.ps1

That is, I added the -executionpolicy bypass to the way I invoked the script.

This worked on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I am new to PowerShell, so there could be caveats to doing that that I am not aware of.

[Edit 2017-06-26] I have continued to use this technique on other systems including Windows 10 and Windows 2012 R2 without issue.

Here is what I am using now. This keeps me from accidentally running the script by clicking on it. When I run it in the scheduler I add one argument: "scheduler" and that bypasses the prompt.

This also pauses the window at the end so I can see the output of PowerShell.

if NOT "%1" == "scheduler" (
   @echo looks like you started the script by clicking on it.
   @echo press space to continue or control C to exit.
   pause
)

C:
cd \Scripts

powershell -executionpolicy bypass -File .\rundps.ps1

set psexitcode=%errorlevel%

if NOT "%1" == "scheduler" (
   @echo Powershell finished. Press space to exit.
   pause
)

exit /b %psexitcode%

What is better, adjacency lists or adjacency matrices for graph problems in C++?

It depends on the problem.

Adjacency Matrix

  • Uses O(n^2) memory
  • It is fast to lookup and check for presence or absence of a specific edge
    between any two nodes O(1)
  • It is slow to iterate over all edges
  • It is slow to add/delete a node; a complex operation O(n^2)
  • It is fast to add a new edge O(1)

Adjacency List

  • Memory usage depends on the number of edges (not number of nodes),
    which might save a lot of memory if the adjacency matrix is sparse
  • Finding the presence or absence of specific edge between any two nodes
    is slightly slower than with the matrix O(k); where k is the number of neighbors nodes
  • It is fast to iterate over all edges because you can access any node neighbors directly
  • It is fast to add/delete a node; easier than the matrix representation
  • It fast to add a new edge O(1)

                InputMethodManager keyboard=(InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
                keyboard.showSoftInput(ettext,0);
            }
        }
        ,200);
}

To hide:

private void hideSoftKeyboard(EditText ettext){
    InputMethodManager inputMethodManager = (InputMethodManager) getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
    inputMethodManager.hideSoftInputFromWindow(ettext.getWindowToken(), 0);
}

PySpark 2.0 The size or shape of a DataFrame

I think there is not similar function like data.shape in Spark. But I will use len(data.columns) rather than len(data.dtypes)

npm install doesn't create node_modules directory

If you have a package-lock.json file, you may have to delete that file then run npm i. That worked for me

What are XAND and XOR

To add to this, since I was just dealing with it, if you are looking for an "equivalence gate" or a "coincedence gate" as your XAND, what you really have is just "equals".

If you think about it, given XOR from above:

F XOR F = F
F XOR T = T
T XOR F = T
T XOR T = F

And we expect XAND should be:

F XAND F = T
F XAND T = F
T XAND F = F
T XAND T = T

And isn't this exactly the same?

F == F = T
F == T = F
T == F = F
T == T = T

How can I specify a branch/tag when adding a Git submodule?

An example of how I use Git submodules.

  1. Create a new repository
  2. Then clone another repository as a submodule
  3. Then we have that submodule use a tag called V3.1.2
  4. And then we commit.

And that looks a little bit like this:

git init
vi README
git add README
git commit
git submodule add git://github.com/XXXXX/xxx.yyyy.git stm32_std_lib
git status

git submodule init
git submodule update

cd stm32_std_lib/
git reset --hard V3.1.2
cd ..
git commit -a

git submodule status

Maybe it helps (even though I use a tag and not a branch)?

Proper Linq where clauses

The first one will be implemented:

Collection.Where(x => x.Age == 10)
          .Where(x => x.Name == "Fido") // applied to the result of the previous
          .Where(x => x.Fat == true) // applied to the result of the previous

As opposed to the much simpler (and far fasterpresumably faster):

// all in one fell swoop
Collection.Where(x => x.Age == 10 && x.Name == "Fido" && x.Fat == true)

Handling Enter Key in Vue.js

You can also pass events down into child components with something like this:

<CustomComponent
    @keyup.enter="handleKeyUp"
/>

...

<template>
    <div>
        <input
            type="text"
            v-on="$listeners"
        >
    </div>
</template>

<script>
export default {
    name: 'CustomComponent',

    mounted() {
        console.log('listeners', this.$listeners)
    },
}
</script>

That works well if you have a pass-through component and want the listeners to go onto a specific element.

Bash integer comparison

I know this has been answered, but here's mine just because I think case is an under-appreciated tool. (Maybe because people think it is slow, but it's at least as fast as an if, sometimes faster.)

case "$1" in
    0|1) xinput set-prop 12 "Device Enabled" $1 ;;
      *) echo "This script requires a 1 or 0 as first parameter." ;;

How to plot a subset of a data frame in R?

with(dfr[dfr$var3 < 155,], plot(var1, var2)) should do the trick.

Edit regarding multiple conditions:

JavaScript OOP in NodeJS: how?

If you are working on your own, and you want the closest thing to OOP as you would find in Java or C# or C++, see the javascript library, CrxOop. CrxOop provides syntax somewhat familiar to Java developers.

Just be careful, Java's OOP is not the same as that found in Javascript. To get the same behavior as in Java, use CrxOop's classes, not CrxOop's structures, and make sure all your methods are virtual. An example of the syntax is,

crx_registerClass("ExampleClass",
{
    "VERBOSE": 1,

    "public var publicVar": 5,
    "private var privateVar": 7,

    "public virtual function publicVirtualFunction": function(x)
    {
        this.publicVar1 = x;
        console.log("publicVirtualFunction");
    },

    "private virtual function privatePureVirtualFunction": 0,

    "protected virtual final function protectedVirtualFinalFunction": function()
    {
        console.log("protectedVirtualFinalFunction");
    }
});

crx_registerClass("ExampleSubClass",
{
    VERBOSE: 1,
    EXTENDS: "ExampleClass",

    "public var publicVar": 2,

    "private virtual function privatePureVirtualFunction": function(x)
    {
        this.PARENT.CONSTRUCT(pA);
        console.log("ExampleSubClass::privatePureVirtualFunction");
    }
});

var gExampleSubClass = crx_new("ExampleSubClass", 4);

console.log(gExampleSubClass.publicVar);
console.log(gExampleSubClass.CAST("ExampleClass").publicVar);

The code is pure javascript, no transpiling. The example is taken from a number of examples from the official documentation.

C# winforms combobox dynamic autocomplete

This was a major pain to get working. I hit a bunch of dead ends, but the final result is reasonably straight forward. Hopefully it can be of benefit to someone. It may need a little spit and polish that's all.

Note: _addressFinder.CompleteAsync returns a list of KeyValuePairs.

public partial class MyForm : Form
{
    private readonly AddressFinder _addressFinder;
    private readonly AddressSuggestionsUpdatedEventHandler _addressSuggestionsUpdated;

    private delegate void AddressSuggestionsUpdatedEventHandler(object sender, AddressSuggestionsUpdatedEventArgs e);

    public MyForm()
    {
        InitializeComponent();

        _addressFinder = new AddressFinder(new AddressFinderConfigurationProvider());

        _addressSuggestionsUpdated += AddressSuggestions_Updated;

        MyComboBox.DropDownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDown;
        MyComboBox.DisplayMember = "Value";
        MyComboBox.ValueMember = "Key";
    }

    private void MyComboBox_KeyPress(object sender, KeyPressEventArgs e)
    {
        if (char.IsControl(e.KeyChar))
        {
            return;
        }

        }
    }

    private async Task GetAddressSuggestions(string searchString)
    {
        var addressSuggestions = await _addressFinder.CompleteAsync(searchString).ConfigureAwait(false);

        if (_addressSuggestionsUpdated.IsNotNull())
        {
            _addressSuggestionsUpdated.Invoke(this, new AddressSuggestionsUpdatedEventArgs(addressSuggestions));
        }
    }

            var text = ThreadingHelpers.GetText(MyComboBox);

            ThreadingHelpers.ClearItems(MyComboBox);

            foreach (var addressSuggestions in eventArgs.AddressSuggestions)

            ThreadingHelpers.ClearSelection(MyComboBox);
            ThreadingHelpers.SetText(MyComboBox, text);
            ThreadingHelpers.SetSelectionStart(MyComboBox, text.Length);
        }
        catch (Exception ex)

        }
        finally
        {
            ThreadingHelpers.EndUpdate(MyComboBox);
        }
    }

    private class AddressSuggestionsUpdatedEventArgs : EventArgs

ThreadingHelpers is just a set of static methods of the form:

    public static string GetText(ComboBox comboBox)
    {
        if (comboBox.InvokeRequired)
        {
            return (string)comboBox.Invoke(new Func<string>(() => GetText(comboBox)));
        }

        lock (comboBox)
        {
            return comboBox.Text;
        }
    }

    public static void SetText(ComboBox comboBox, string text)
    {
        if (comboBox.InvokeRequired)
        {
            comboBox.Invoke(new Action(() => SetText(comboBox, text)));
            return;
        }

        lock (comboBox)
        {
            comboBox.Text = text;
        }
    }

How to migrate GIT repository from one server to a new one

If you want to move from one origin to another and also keep a backup of your current origin on your local machine you could use these steps:

  1. First locally go to the (git)folder you want to move over
  2. Create the new repository online This step creates a repository where we can push code to

Now in the folder do

git remote get-url origin

The above command gives the current remote origin url, useful to set the origin back to in the last step

git remote set-url origin [email protected]:folder/newrepo.git

The above command sets the remote origin to the new location

git push --set-upstream origin develop

The above command pushes the current active local branch to remote with branchname develop. Of course it preserves all history as with git all history is also pushed.

git remote set-url origin <original old origin>

The above command sets back the remote origin to your current origin: you want this because you are in your existing folder and you probably do not want to mix up your current local folder name with the new folder you are going to create for cloning the repo you just pushed to.

Hope this helps,

Laravel: Error [PDOException]: Could not Find Driver in PostgreSQL

In Windows 8 PC with Laragon 3.4.0 180809, I faced the same issue. It happened in my case because I updated Laragon and it added a new version of PHP. So in laragon/bin/php/ I actually had two directories:

  • php-7.1.20-Win32-VC14-x64
  • php-7.1.7-Win32-VC14-x64

I added 7.1.20 into my PATH variable. But in my Command Console, running php --ini was showing that the path actually was fetching from the older one: php-7.1.7-Win32-VC14-x64. So I deleted the old one (for safety, I put it in Recycle Bin). But Laragon failed to start after that.

So, in laragaon/etc/apache2/mod_php.conf, I changed the path to the latest PHP version. Then restarted Laragon and the issue is resolved.

Launching a website via windows commandline

IE has a setting, located in Tools / Internet options / Advanced / Browsing, called Reuse windows for launching shortcuts, which is checked by default. For IE versions that support tabbed browsing, this option is relevant only when tab browsing is turned off (in fact, IE9 Beta explicitly mentions this). However, since IE6 does not have tabbed browsing, this option does affect opening URLs through the shell (as in your example).

How can I search Git branches for a file or directory?

git log + git branch will find it for you:

% git log --all -- somefile

commit 55d2069a092e07c56a6b4d321509ba7620664c63
Author: Dustin Sallings <[email protected]>
Date:   Tue Dec 16 14:16:22 2008 -0800

    added somefile

% git branch -a --contains 55d2069
  otherbranch

Supports globbing, too:

% git log --all -- '**/my_file.png'

The single quotes are necessary (at least if using the Bash shell) so the shell passes the glob pattern to git unchanged, instead of expanding it (just like with Unix find).

How do you get the length of a list in the JSF expression language?

You can get the length using the following EL:

How to delete file from public folder in laravel 5.1

First, you should go to config/filesystems.php and set 'root' => public_path() like so:

'disks' => [

    'local' => [
        'driver' => 'local',
        'root' => public_path(),
],

Then, you can use Storage::delete($filename);

Convert milliseconds to date (in Excel)

Converting your value in milliseconds to days is simply (MsValue / 86,400,000)

We can get 1/1/1970 as numeric value by DATE(1970,1,1)

= (MsValueCellReference / 86400000) + DATE(1970,1,1)

Using your value of 1271664970687 and formatting it as dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss gives me a date and time of 19/04/2010 08:16:11

How do I find the mime-type of a file with php?

mime_content_type() is deprecated, so you won't be able to count on it working in the future. There is a "fileinfo" PECL extension, but I haven't heard good things about it.

If you are running on a *nix server, you can do the following, which has worked fine for me:

$file = escapeshellarg( $filename );
$mime = shell_exec("file -bi " . $file);
$filename should probably include the absolute path.

Executing <script> injected by innerHTML after AJAX call

This 'just works' for me using jQuery, provided you don't try to append a subset the XHR-returned HTML to the document. (See this bug report showing the problem with jQuery.)

Here is an example showing it working:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

    <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="jquery.1.4.2.js"></script>

        var snippet = "<div><span id='a'>JS did not run<\/span><script type='text/javascript'>" +
        "$('#a').html('Hooray! JS ran!');" +
        "<\/script><\/div>";
        $(function(){
            $('#replaceable').replaceWith($(snippet));
        });
    </script>
</head>

Customize UITableView header section

Going back to the original question (4 years later), rather than rebuilding your own section header, iOS can simply call you (with willDisplayHeaderView:forSection:) right after it's built the default one. For example, I wanted to add a graph button on right edge of section header:

- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willDisplayHeaderView:(UIView *)view forSection:(NSInteger)section {
    UITableViewHeaderFooterView * header = (UITableViewHeaderFooterView *) view;
    if (header.contentView.subviews.count >  0) return; //in case of reuse
    CGFloat rightEdge = CGRectGetMaxX(header.contentView.bounds);
    UIButton * button = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(rightEdge - 44, 0, 44, CGRectGetMaxY(header.contentView.bounds))];
    [button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"graphIcon"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
    [button addTarget:self action:@selector(graphButtonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
    [view addSubview:button];
}

git stash and git pull

When you have changes on your working copy, from command line do:

git stash

This will stash your changes and clear your status report

git pull

This will pull changes from upstream branch. Make sure it says fast-forward in the report. If it doesn't, you are probably doing an unintended merge

git stash pop

This will apply stashed changes back to working copy and remove the changes from stash unless you have conflicts. In the case of conflict, they will stay in stash so you can start over if needed.

if you need to see what is in your stash

git stash list

Unable to load AWS credentials from the /AwsCredentials.properties file on the classpath

If you use the credential file at ~/.aws/credentials and use the default profile as below:

[default]
aws_access_key_id=<your access key>
aws_secret_access_key=<your secret access key>

You do not need to use BasicAWSCredential or AWSCredentialsProvider. The SDK can pick up the credentials from the default profile, just by initializing the client object with the default constructor. Example below:

AmazonEC2Client ec2Client = new AmazonEC2Client();

In addition sometime you would need to initialize the client with the ClientConfiguration to provide proxy settings etc. Example below.

ClientConfiguration clientConfiguration = new ClientConfiguration();
clientConfiguration.setProxyHost("proxyhost");
clientConfiguration.setProxyPort(proxyport);
AmazonEC2Client ec2Client = new AmazonEC2Client(clientConfiguration);

Let C2 to C12 be different numbers which need to be multiplied by a single number (constant). Then type the numbers from C2 to C12.

In D2 type 1 (unity) and in E2 type formula =PRODUCT(C2:C12,CONSTANT). SELECT RIGHT ICON TO APPLY. NOW DRAG E2 THROUGH E12. YOU HAVE DONE IT.

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget - Android

Well I've tried everything I found on the internet and none of them worked. Calling System.gc() only drags down the speed of app. Recycling bitmaps in onDestroy didn't work for me too.

The only thing that works now is to have a static list of all the bitmap so that the bitmaps survive after a restart. And just use the saved bitmaps instead of creating new ones every time the activity if restarted.

In my case the code looks like this:

private static BitmapDrawable currentBGDrawable;

if (new File(uriString).exists()) {
    if (!uriString.equals(currentBGUri)) {
        freeBackground();
        bg = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(uriString);

        currentBGUri = uriString;
        bgDrawable = new BitmapDrawable(bg);
        currentBGDrawable = bgDrawable;
    } else {
        bgDrawable = currentBGDrawable;
    }
}

Add / remove input field dynamically with jQuery

I took the liberty of putting together a jsFiddle illustrating the functionality of building a custom form using jQuery. Here it is...

EDIT: Updated the jsFiddle to include remove buttons for each field.

EDIT: As per the request in the last comment, code from the jsFiddle is below.

EDIT: As per Abhishek's comment, I have updated the jsFiddle (and code below) to cater for scenarios where duplicate field IDs might arise.

HTML:

<fieldset id="buildyourform">
    <legend>Build your own form!</legend>
</fieldset>
<input type="button" value="Preview form" class="add" id="preview" />
<input type="button" value="Add a field" class="add" id="add" />

JavaScript:

$(document).ready(function() {

SQL JOIN - WHERE clause vs. ON clause

On INNER JOINs they are interchangeable, and the optimizer will rearrange them at will.

On OUTER JOINs, they are not necessarily interchangeable, depending on which side of the join they depend on.

I put them in either place depending on the readability.

Sum across multiple columns with dplyr

Using reduce() from purrr is slightly faster than rowSums and definately faster than apply, since you avoid iterating over all the rows and just take advantage of the vectorized operations:

library(purrr)
library(dplyr)
iris %>% mutate(Petal = reduce(select(., starts_with("Petal")), `+`))

See this for timings

Returning value that was passed into a method

Even more useful, if you have multiple parameters you can access any/all of them with:

_mock.Setup(x => x.DoSomething(It.IsAny<string>(),It.IsAny<string>(),It.IsAny<string>())
     .Returns((string a, string b, string c) => string.Concat(a,b,c));

You always need to reference all the arguments, to match the method's signature, even if you're only going to use one of them.

mysqli::mysqli(): (HY000/2002): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket 'MySQL' (2)

When you use just "localhost" the MySQL client library tries to use a Unix domain socket for the connection instead of a TCP/IP connection. The error is telling you that the socket, called MySQL, cannot be used to make the connection, probably because it does not exist (error number 2).

From the MySQL Documentation:

On Unix, MySQL programs treat the host name localhost specially, in a way that is likely different from what you expect compared to other network-based programs. For connections to localhost, MySQL programs attempt to connect to the local server by using a Unix socket file. This occurs even if a --port or -P option is given to specify a port number. To ensure that the client makes a TCP/IP connection to the local server, use --host or -h to specify a host name value of 127.0.0.1, or the IP address or name of the local server. You can also specify the connection protocol explicitly, even for localhost, by using the --protocol=TCP option.

There are a few ways to solve this problem.

  1. You can just use TCP/IP instead of the Unix socket. You would do this by using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost when you connect. The Unix socket might by faster and safer to use, though.
  2. You can change the socket in php.ini: open the MySQL configuration file my.cnf to find where MySQL creates the socket, and set PHP's mysqli.default_socket to that path. On my system it's /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock.
  3. Configure the socket directly in the PHP script when opening the connection. For example:

    $db = new MySQLi('localhost', 'kamil', '***', '', 0,
                                  '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock')

No provider for HttpClient

I found slimier problem. Please import the HttpClientModule in your app.module.ts file as follow:

import { BrowserModule } from '@angular/platform-browser';
import { NgModule } from '@angular/core';

import { AppComponent } from './app.component';
import { HttpClientModule } from '@angular/common/http';

@NgModule({
  declarations: [
    AppComponent
],

imports: [
    BrowserModule,
    HttpClientModule
  ],
  providers: [],
  bootstrap: [AppComponent]
})
export class AppModule { }

how to check for datatype in node js- specifically for integer

You can check your numbers by checking their constructor.

var i = "5";

if( i.constructor !== Number )
{
 console.log('This is not number'));
}

Regular Expressions: Is there an AND operator?

Use a non-consuming regular expression.

The typical (i.e. Perl/Java) notation is:

(?=expr)

This means "match expr but after that continue matching at the original match-point."

You can do as many of these as you want, and this will be an "and." Example:

(?=match this expression)(?=match this too)(?=oh, and this)

You can even add capture groups inside the non-consuming expressions if you need to save some of the data therein.

Adding values to specific DataTable cells

You mean you want to add a new row and only put data in a certain column? Try the following:

var row = dataTable.NewRow();
row[myColumn].Value = "my new value";
dataTable.Add(row);

As it is a data table, though, there will always be data of some kind in every column. It just might be DBNull.Value instead of whatever data type you imagine it would be.

How do I convert a C# List<string[]> to a Javascript array?

For one dimension array

Controller:

using Newtonsoft.Json;
var listOfIds = _dbContext.Countries.Where(x => x.Id == Country.USA).First().Cities.Where(x => x.IsCoveredByCompany).Select(x => x.Id).ToList();
string strArrayForJS = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(listOfIds); //  [1,2,6,7,8,18,25,61,129]
//Now pass it to the view through the model or ViewBag

View:

<script>
    $(function () {
        var myArray = @HTML.Raw(Model.strArrayForJS);
        console.log(myArray); // [1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 18, 25, 61, 129]
        console.log(typeof (myArray)); //object
    });
</script>

How a thread should close itself in Java?

If you're at the top level - or able to cleanly get to the top level - of the thread, then just returning is nice. Throwing an exception isn't as clean, as you need to be able to check that nothing's going to catch the exception and ignore it.

The reason you need to use Thread.currentThread() in order to call interrupt() is that interrupt() is an instance method - you need to call it on the thread you want to interrupt, which in your case happens to be the current thread. Note that the interruption will only be noticed the next time the thread would block (e.g. for IO or for a monitor) anyway - it doesn't mean the exception is thrown immediately.

How do I tokenize a string sentence in NLTK?

As @PavelAnossov answered, the canonical answer, use the word_tokenize function in nltk:

from nltk import word_tokenize
sent = "This is my text, this is a nice way to input text."
word_tokenize(sent)

If your sentence is truly simple enough:

Using the string.punctuation set, remove punctuation then split using the whitespace delimiter:

import string
x = "This is my text, this is a nice way to input text."
y = "".join([i for i in x if not in string.punctuation]).split(" ")
print y

How to add column to numpy array

It can be done like this:

import numpy as np

# create a random matrix:
A = np.random.normal(size=(5,2))

# add a column of zeros to it:
print(np.hstack((A,np.zeros((A.shape[0],1)))))

In general, if A is an m*n matrix, and you need to add a column, you have to create an n*1 matrix of zeros, then use "hstack" to add the matrix of zeros to the right of the matrix A.

Uncaught TypeError: data.push is not a function

Or

data['country'] = 'IN';

Typescript: difference between String and string

TypeScript: String vs string

Argument of type 'String' is not assignable to parameter of type 'string'.

'string' is a primitive, but 'String' is a wrapper object.

Prefer using 'string' when possible.

demo

String Object

// error
class SVGStorageUtils {
  store: object;
  constructor(store: object) {
    this.store = store;
  }
  setData(key: String = ``, data: object) {
    sessionStorage.setItem(key, JSON.stringify(data));
  }
  getData(key: String = ``) {
    const obj = JSON.parse(sessionStorage.getItem(key));
  }
}

string primitive

// ok
class SVGStorageUtils {

  setData(key: string = ``, data: object) {
    sessionStorage.setItem(key, JSON.stringify(data));

JavaScript to scroll long page to DIV

scrollTop (IIRC) is where in the document the top of the page is scrolled to. scrollTo scrolls the page so that the top of the page is where you specify.

What you need here is some Javascript manipulated styles. Say if you wanted the div off-screen and scroll in from the right you would set the left attribute of the div to the width of the page and then decrease it by a set amount every few seconds until it is where you want.

This should point you in the right direction.

Additional: I'm sorry, I thought you wanted a separate div to 'pop out' from somewhere (sort of like this site does sometimes), and not move the entire page to a section. Proper use of anchors would achieve that effect.

Angular 5, HTML, boolean on checkbox is checked

Here is my answer,

In row.model.ts

export interface Row {
   otherProperty : type;
   checked : bool;
   otherProperty : type;
   ...
}

In .html

<tr class="even" *ngFor="let item of rows">
   <input [checked]="item.checked" type="checkbox">
</tr>

In .ts

rows : Row[] = [];

update the rows in component.ts

IF a == true OR b == true statement

check this Twig Reference.

You can do it that simple:

{% if (a or b) %}

How to list all Git tags?

You can list all existing tags git tag or you could filter the list with git tag -l 'v1.1.*', where * acts as a wildcard. It will return a list of tags marked with v1.1.

You will notice that when you call git tag you do not get to see the contents of your annotations. To preview them you must add -n to your command: git tag -n2.

$ git tag -l -n2

v1.0 Release version 1.0

v1.1 Release version 1.1

The command lists all existing tags with maximum 3 lines of their tag message. By default -n only shows the first line. For more info be sure to check this tag related article as well.

Check if element is clickable in Selenium Java

elementToBeClickable is used for checking an element is visible and enabled such that you can click it.

ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable returns WebElement if expected condition is true otherwise it will throw TimeoutException, It never returns null.

So if your using ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable to find an element which will always gives you the clickable element, so no need to check for null condition, you should try as below :-

WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(Scenario1Test.driver, 10);
WebElement element = wait.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.xpath("(//div[@id='brandSlider']/div[1]/div/div/div/img)[50]")));
element.click();

As you are saying element.click() passes both on link and label that's doesn't mean element is not clickable, it means returned element clicked but may be there is no event performs on element by click action.

Note:- I'm suggesting you always try first to find elements by id, name, className and other locator. if you faced some difficulty to find then use cssSelector and always give last priority to xpath locator because it is slower than other locator to locate an element.

Hope it helps you..:)

In Postgresql, force unique on combination of two columns

If, like me, you landed here with:

  • a pre-existing table,
  • to which you need to add a new column, and
  • also need to add a new unique constraint on the new column as well as an old one, AND
  • be able to undo it all (i.e. write a down migration)

Here is what worked for me, utilizing one of the above answers and expanding it:

-- up

ALTER TABLE myoldtable ADD COLUMN newcolumn TEXT;
ALTER TABLE myoldtable ADD CONSTRAINT myoldtable_oldcolumn_newcolumn_key UNIQUE (oldcolumn, newcolumn);

---

ALTER TABLE myoldtable DROP CONSTRAINT myoldtable_oldcolumn_newcolumn_key;
ALTER TABLE myoldtable DROP COLUMN newcolumn;

-- down

Tree data structure in C#

Most trees are formed by the data you are processing.

Say you have a person class that includes details of someone’s parents, would you rather have the tree structure as part of your “domain class”, or use a separate tree class that contained links to your person objects? Think about a simple operation like getting all the grandchildren of a person, should this code be in the person class, or should the user of the person class have to know about a separate tree class?

Another example is a parse tree in a compiler…

What both of these examples show is that the concept of a tree is part of the domain of the data and using a separate general purpose tree at least doubles the number of objects that are created as well as making the API harder to program again.

What we want is a way to reuse the standard tree operations, without having to re-implement them for all trees, while at the same time, not having to use a standard tree class. Boost has tried to solve this type of problem for C++, but I yet to see any effect for .NET get adapted.

How do I parse a string to a float or int?

I am surprised nobody mentioned regex because sometimes string must be prepared and normalized before casting to number

import re
def parseNumber(value, as_int=False):
    try:
        number = float(re.sub('[^.\-\d]', '', value))
        if as_int:
            return int(number + 0.5)
        else:
            return number
    except ValueError:
        return float('nan') # or None if you wish

usage:

parseNumber('13,345')
> 13345.0

parseNumber('- 123 000')
> -123000.0

parseNumber('99999\n')
> 99999.0

and by the way, something to verify you have a number:

import numbers
def is_number(value):
    return isinstance(value, numbers.Number)
    # will work with int, float, long, Decimal

How do I convert a string to enum in TypeScript?

As of Typescript 2.1 string keys in enums are strongly typed. keyof typeof is used to get info about available string keys (1):

enum Color{
    Red, Green
}

let typedColor: Color = Color.Green;
let typedColorString: keyof typeof Color = "Green";

// Error "Black is not assignable ..." (indexing using Color["Black"] will return undefined runtime)
typedColorString = "Black";

// Error "Type 'string' is not assignable ..." (indexing works runtime)
let letColorString = "Red";
typedColorString = letColorString;

// Works fine
typedColorString = "Red";

// Works fine
const constColorString = "Red";
typedColorString = constColorString

// Works fine (thanks @SergeyT)
let letColorString = "Red";
typedColorString = letColorString as keyof typeof Color;

typedColor = Color[typedColorString];

How to specify HTTP error code?

How to compare two JSON have the same properties without order?

Lodash isEqual() method is the best way to compare two JSON object.

This will not consider the order of the keys in object and check for the equality of object. Example

const object1={
name:'ABC',
address:'India'
}

const object2={
address:'India',
name:'ABC'
}

JSON.stringify(object1)===JSON.stringify(object2)
// false

_.isEqual(object1, object2)
//true

Reference-https://lodash.com/docs/#isEqual

If sequence is not going to change than JSON.stringify() will be fast as compared to Lodash isEqual() method

Can we make unsigned byte in Java

As per limitations in Java, unsigned byte is almost impossible in the current data-type format. You can go for some other libraries of another language for what you are implementing and then you can call them using JNI.

How to configure Chrome's Java plugin so it uses an existing JDK in the machine

Starting with Version 42, released April 14, 2015, Chrome blocks all NPAPI plugins, including Java. Until September 2015 there will be a way around this, by going to chrome://flags/#enable-npapi and clicking on Enable. After that, you will have to use the IE tab extension to run the Direct-X version of the Java plugin.

node.js TypeError: path must be absolute or specify root to res.sendFile [failed to parse JSON]

The error is pretty clear, you need to specify an absolute (instead of relative) path and/or set root in the config object for res.sendFile(). Examples:

// assuming index.html is in the same directory as this script

res.sendFile(__dirname + '/index.html');

or specify a root (which is used as the base path for the first argument to res.sendFile():

res.sendFile('index.html', { root: __dirname });

Specifying the root path is more useful when you're passing a user-generated file path which could potentially contain malformed/malicious parts like .. (e.g. ../../../../../../etc/passwd). Setting the root path prevents such malicious paths from being used to access files outside of that base path.

how to declare global variable in SQL Server..?

You can get a similar result by creating scalar-valued functions that return the variable values. Of course, function calls can be expensive if you use them in queries that return a large number of results, but if you're limiting the result-set you should be fine. Here I'm using a database created just to hold these semi-static values, but you can create them on a per-database basis, too. As you can see, there are no input variables, just a well-named function that returns a static value: if you change that value in the function, it will instantly change anywhere it's used (the next time it's called).

USE [globalDatabase]

What is the best Java email address validation method?

Apache Commons is generally known as a solid project. Keep in mind, though, you'll still have to send a verification email to the address if you want to ensure it's a real email, and that the owner wants it used on your site.

EDIT: There was a bug where it was too restrictive on domain, causing it to not accept valid emails from new TLDs.

This bug was resolved on 03/Jan/15 02:48 in commons-validator version 1.4.1

Linq style "For Each"

Using the ToList() extension method is your best option:

someValues.ToList().ForEach(x => list.Add(x + 1));

There is no extension method in the BCL that implements ForEach directly.

Although there's no extension method in the BCL that does this, there is still an option in the System namespace... if you add Reactive Extensions to your project:

using System.Reactive.Linq;

someValues.ToObservable().Subscribe(x => list.Add(x + 1));

This has the same end result as the above use of ToList, but is (in theory) more efficient, because it streams the values directly to the delegate.

Python3 project remove __pycache__ folders and .pyc files

I found the answer myself when I mistyped pyclean as pycclean:

    No command 'pycclean' found, did you mean:
     Command 'py3clean' from package 'python3-minimal' (main)
     Command 'pyclean' from package 'python-minimal' (main)
    pycclean: command not found

Running py3clean . cleaned it up very nicely.

Set background image according to screen resolution

Pure CSS approaches that work very well are discussed here. Two techniques are examined in particular and I personally prefer the second as it not CSS3 dependent, which suits my own needs better.

If most/all of your traffic has a CSS3 capable browser, the first method is quicker and cleaner to implement (copy/pasted by Mr. Zoidberg in another answer here for convenience, though I'd visit the source for further background on why it works).

An alternative method to CSS is to use the JavaScript library jQuery to detect resolution changes and adjust the image size accordingly. This article covers the jQuery technique and provides a live demo.

Supersized is a dedicated JavaScript library designed for static full screen images as well as full sized slideshows.

A good tip for full-screen images is to scale them with a correct ratio beforehand. I normally aim for a size of 1500x1000 when using supersized.js or 1680x1050 for other methods, setting the jpg quality for photographs to between 60-80% resulting in a file size in the region of 100kb or less if possible without compromising quality too much.

I had the same problem. All I did to fix the issue was to modify my htacces file like this:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mywebsite.com [NC]

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mywebsite.com/$1 [L,R=301]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

RewriteRule ^index.php/(.*)$ [L]

Can enums be subclassed to add new elements?

Having had this same problem myself I'd like to post my perspective. I think that there are a couple motivating factors for doing something like this:

  • You want to have some related enum codes, but in different classes. In my case I had a base class with several codes defined in an associated enum. At some later date (today!) I wanted to provide some new functionality to the base class, which also meant new codes for the enum.
  • The derived class would support both the base classes' enum as well as its own. No duplicate enum values! So: how to have an enum for the subclass that includes the enum's of its parent along with its new values.

Using an interface doesn't really cut it: you can accidentally get duplicate enum values. Not desirable.

I ended up just combining the enums: this ensures that there cannot be any duplicate values, at the expense of being less tightly tied to its associated class. But, I figured the duplicate issue was my main concern...

Conditional Count on a field

IIF is not a standard SQL construct, but if it's supported by your database, you can achieve a more elegant statement producing the same result:

SELECT JobId, JobName,

COUNT(IIF (Priority=1, 1, NULL)) AS Priority1,
COUNT(IIF (Priority=2, 1, NULL)) AS Priority2,
COUNT(IIF (Priority=3, 1, NULL)) AS Priority3,
COUNT(IIF (Priority=4, 1, NULL)) AS Priority4,
COUNT(IIF (Priority=5, 1, NULL)) AS Priority5

GROUP BY JobId, JobName

Check if something is (not) in a list in Python

The bug is probably somewhere else in your code, because it should work fine:

>>> 3 not in [2, 3, 4]
False
>>> 3 not in [4, 5, 6]
True

Or with tuples:

>>> (2, 3) not in [(2, 3), (5, 6), (9, 1)]
False
>>> (2, 3) not in [(2, 7), (7, 3), "hi"]
True

android.content.Context.getPackageName()' on a null object reference

The answers to this question helped me find my problem, but my source was different, so hopefully this can shed light on someone finding this page searching for answers to the 'random' context crash:

I had specified a SharedPreferences object, and tried to instantiate it at it's class-level declaration, like so:

public class MyFragment extends FragmentActivity {
    private SharedPreferences sharedPref =
        PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    //...

Referencing this before the onCreate caused the "java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String android.content.Context.getPackageName()' on a null object reference" error for me.

Instantiating the object inside the onCreate() solved my problem, like so:

public class MyFragment extends FragmentActivity {
    private SharedPreferences sharedPref;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        //...
        sharedPref = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);

Hope that helps.

How do I change the color of radio buttons?

I builded another fork of @klewis' code sample to demonstrate some playing with pure css and gradients by using :before/:after pseudo elements and a hidden radio input button.

ExecuteNonQuery doesn't return results

What kind of query do you perform? Using ExecuteNonQuery is intended for UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE queries. As per the documentation:

For UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE statements, the return value is the number of rows affected by the command. When a trigger exists on a table being inserted or updated, the return value includes the number of rows affected by both the insert or update operation and the number of rows affected by the trigger or triggers. For all other types of statements, the return value is -1.

What is the optimal algorithm for the game 2048?

I think I found an algorithm which works quite well, as I often reach scores over 10000, my personal best being around 16000. My solution does not aim at keeping biggest numbers in a corner, but to keep it in the top row.

Please see the code below:

while( !game_over ) {
    move_direction=up;
    if( !move_is_possible(up) ) {
        if( move_is_possible(right) && move_is_possible(left) ){
            if( number_of_empty_cells_after_moves(left,up) > number_of_empty_cells_after_moves(right,up) )
                move_direction = left;
            else
                move_direction = right;
        } else if ( move_is_possible(left) ){
            move_direction = left;
        } else if ( move_is_possible(right) ){
            move_direction = right;
        } else {
            move_direction = down;
        }
    }
    do_move(move_direction);

Vuejs: v-model array in multiple input

You're thinking too DOM, it's a hard as hell habit to break. Vue recommends you approach it data first.

It's kind of hard to tell in your exact situation but I'd probably use a v-for and make an array of finds to push to as I need more.

Here's how I'd set up my instance:

new Vue({
  el: '#app',
  data: {
    finds: []
  },
  methods: {
    addFind: function () {
      this.finds.push({ value: '' });
    }
  }
});

And here's how I'd set up my template:

<div id="app">
  <h1>Finds</h1>
  <div v-for="(find, index) in finds">
    <input v-model="find.value" :key="index">
  </div>
  <button @click="addFind">
    New Find
  </button>
</div>

Although, I'd try to use something besides an index for the key.

Here's a demo of the above: https://jsfiddle.net/crswll/24txy506/9/
