While these are all viable answers, I decided to give my way of checking if local repo is in line with the remote, whithout fetching or pulling. In order to see where my branches are I use simply:

git remote show origin

What it does is return all the current tracked branches and most importantly - the info whether they are up to date, ahead or behind the remote origin ones. After the above command, this is an example of what is returned:

How to measure time taken by a function to execute

If you need to get function execution time on your local development machine, you can either use your browser's profiling tools, or console commands such as console.time() and console.timeEnd().

All modern browsers have JavaScript profilers built-in. These profilers should give the most accurate measurement as you do not have to modify your existing code, which could affect the function's execution time.

To profile your JavaScript:

  • In Chrome, press F12 and select the Profiles tab, then Collect JavaScript CPU Profile.
  • In Firefox, install/open Firebug, and click on the Profile button.
  • In IE 9+, press F12, click on Script or Profiler (depending on your version of IE).

Alternatively, on your development machine, you can add instrumentation to your code with console.time() and console.timeEnd(). These functions, supported in Firefox11+, Chrome2+ and IE11+, report on timers that you start/stop via console.time(). time() takes a user-defined timer name as an argument, and timeEnd() then reports on the execution time since the timer started:

Note that only Firefox returns the elapsed time in the timeEnd() call. The other browsers simply report the result to the developer console: the return value of timeEnd() is undefined.

If you want to get function execution time in the wild, you will have to instrument your code. You have a couple options. You can simply save the start and end times by querying new Date().getTime():

However, the Date object only has millisecond resolution and will be affected by any OS's system clock changes. In modern browsers, there's a better option.

The better option is to use the High Resolution Time, aka window.performance.now(). now() is better than the traditional Date.getTime() in two important ways:

  1. now() is a double with submillisecond resolution that represents the number of milliseconds since the start of the page's navigation. It returns the number of microseconds in the fractional (e.g. a value of 1000.123 is 1 second and 123 microseconds).

  2. now() is monotonically increasing. This is important as Date.getTime() can possibly jump forward or even backward on subsequent calls. Notably, if the OS's system time is updated (e.g. atomic clock synchronization), Date.getTime() is also updated. now() is guaranteed to always be monotonically increasing, so it is not affected by the OS's system time -- it will always be wall-clock time (assuming your wall clock is not atomic...).

now() can be used in almost every place that new Date().getTime(), + new Date andt Date.now() are. The exception is that Date and now() times don't mix, as Date is based on unix-epoch (the number of milliseconds since 1970), while now() is the number of milliseconds since your page navigation started (so it will be much smaller than Date).

Here's an example of how to use now():

now() is supported in Chrome stable, Firefox 15+, and IE10. There are also several polyfills available.

One other option for measuring execution time in the wild is UserTiming. UserTiming behaves similarly to console.time() and console.timeEnd(), but it utilizes the same High Resolution Timestamp that now() uses (so you get a sub-millisecond monotonically increasing clock), and saves the timestamps and durations to the PerformanceTimeline.

UserTiming has the concepts of marks (timestamps) and measures (durations). You can define as many of either as you want, and they're exposed on the PerformanceTimeline.

To save a timestamp, you call mark(startMarkName). To get the duration since your first mark, you simply call measure(measurename, startMarkname). The duration is then saved in the PerformanceTimeline alongside your marks.

As many others have pointed out there is no first value in a dictionary. The sorting in them is arbitrary and you can't count on the sorting being the same every time you access the dictionary. However if you wanted to print the keys there a couple of ways to it:

This method uses tuple assignment to access the key and the value. This handy if you need to access both the key and the value for some reason.

for key in prices.keys():

This will only gives access to the keys as the keys() method implies.

I am not really sure about your question (the meaning of "empty table" etc, or how mappedBy and JoinColumn were not working).

I think you were trying to do a bi-directional relationships.

First, you need to decide which side "owns" the relationship. Hibernate is going to setup the relationship base on that side. For example, assume I make the Post side own the relationship (I am simplifying your example, just to keep things in point), the mapping will look like:

(Wish the syntax is correct. I am writing them just by memory. However the idea should be fine)

You have mentioned mappedBy and JoinColumn is not working. However, I believe this is in fact the correct way. Please tell if this approach is not working for you, and give us a bit more info on the problem. I believe the problem is due to something else.


Edit:

Just a bit extra information on the use of mappedBy as it is usually confusing at first. In mappedBy, we put the "property name" in the opposite side of the bidirectional relationship, not table column name.

The simplest way to get an input box is with the Read-Host cmdlet and -AsSecureString parameter.

value_counts is a Series method rather than a DataFrame method (and you are trying to use it on a DataFrame, clean). You need to perform this on a specific column:

It doesn't usually make sense to perform value_counts on a DataFrame, though I suppose you could apply it to every entry by flattening the underlying values array:

Possible changes:

  • If you want a specific column, you can omit the for loop and simply write freq[3]++ - replace 3 with the column number.

You have to enable Type Name Handling and pass that to the (de)serializer as a settings parameter.

Shorter syntax for casting from a List<X> to a List<Y>?

The direct cast var ListOfY = (List<Y>)ListOfX is not possible because it would require co/contravariance of the List<T> type, and that just can't be guaranteed in every case. Please read on to see the solutions to this casting problem.

While it seems normal to be able to write code like this:

List<Animal> animals = (List<Animal>) mammalList;

because we can guarantee that every mammal will be an animal, this is obviously a mistake:

List<Mammal> mammals = (List<Mammal>) animalList;

since not every animal is a mammal.

However, using C# 3 and above, you can use

IEnumerable<Animal> animals = mammalList.Cast<Animal>();

that eases the casting a little. This is syntactically equivalent to your one-by-one adding code, as it uses an explicit cast to cast each Mammal in the list to an Animal, and will fail if the cast is not successfull.

If you like more control over the casting / conversion process, you could use the ConvertAll method of the List<T> class, which can use a supplied expression to convert the items. It has the added benifit that it returns a List, instead of IEnumerable, so no .ToList() is necessary.

This post is not specifically about __get and __set but rather __call which is the same idea except for method calling. As a rule, I stay away from any type of magic methods that allow for overloading for reasons outlined in the comments and posts HOWEVER, I recently ran into a 3rd-party API that I use which uses a SERVICE and a SUB-SERVICE, example:

The important part of this is that this API has everything the same except the sub-action, in this case doActionOne. The idea is that the developer (myself and others using this class) could call the sub-service by name as opposed to something like:

$myClass->doAction(array('service'=>'doActionOne','args'=>$args));

I could do instead:

 $myClass->doActionOne($args);

To hardcode this would just be a lot of duplication (this example very loosely resembles the code):

Vagrant error : Failed to mount folders in Linux guest

I was running Vagrant with VirtualBox 5.1.X, and had to downgrade to VirtualBox 5.0.40, and install the vbguest plugin to solve this problem.

My steps were:

  • Uninstall VirtualBox 5.1.X
  • Install Vagrant 5.0.40
  • Reboot my machine
  • Run vagrant up for my vagrant. It'll fail.
  • Run vagrant plugin install vagrant-vbguest while my VM is running, to install the vagrant plugin. This manages syncing VirtualBox Guest versions between host and guest.
  • Run vagrant reload to reload my virtual machine
  • Magic!

Git Rebase
theirs is actually the current branch in the case of rebase. So the below set of commands are actually accepting your current branch changes over the remote branch.

About catching ANY exception

Apart from a bare except: clause (which as others have said you shouldn't use), you can simply catch Exception:

You would normally only ever consider doing this at the outermost level of your code if for example you wanted to handle any otherwise uncaught exceptions before terminating.

The advantage of except Exception over the bare except is that there are a few exceptions that it wont catch, most obviously KeyboardInterrupt and SystemExit: if you caught and swallowed those then you could make it hard for anyone to exit your script.

DataGridView - Focus a specific cell

I had a similar problem. I've hidden some columns and afterwards I tried to select the first row. This didn't really work:

datagridview1.Rows[0].Selected = true;

So I tried selecting cell[0,0], but it also didn't work, because this cell was not displayed. Now my final solution is working very well:

datagridview1.SelectionMode = DataGridViewSelectionMode.FullRowSelect;    
datagridview1.CurrentCell = datagridview1.FirstDisplayedCell;

So this selects the complete first row.

Avoid dropdown menu close on click inside

I've got a similar problem recently and tried different ways to solve it with removing the data attribute data-toggle="dropdown" and listening click with event.stopPropagation() calling.

The second way looks more preferable. Also Bootstrap developers use this way. In the source file I found initialization of the dropdown elements:

For me this perfectly triggers slide event on UI Slider :

I found out I made a mistake. There's no need to call toObject() or toJSON() at all. The __proto__ in the question came from jquery, not mongoose. Here's my test:

Missing .map resource?

jQuery recently started using source maps.

For example, let's look at the minified jQuery 2.0.3 file's first few lines.

It's incredibly useful, and will only download if the user opens dev tools.

Solution

Remove the source mapping line, or do nothing. It isn't really a problem.


Side note: your server should return 404, not 500. It could point to a security problem if this happens in production.

Check if a user has scrolled to the bottom

I'm not exactly sure why this has not been posted yet, but as per the documentation from MDN, the simplest way is by using native javascript properties:

element.scrollHeight - element.scrollTop === element.clientHeight

Returns true when you're at the bottom of any scrollable element. So simply using javascript:

Why aren't variable-length arrays part of the C++ standard?

Use std::vector for this. For example:

values.resize(n);

The memory will be allocated on the heap, but this holds only a small performance drawback. Furthermore, it is wise not to allocate large datablocks on the stack, as it is rather limited in size.

You still need to add

Laravel 5.4 ‘cross-env’ Is Not Recognized as an Internal or External Command

There is the same problem in Linux OS. The issue is related on Windows OS, but Homestead is a Ubuntu VM, and the solution posted works strongly good in others SO. I applied the commands sugested by flik, and the problems was solved. I only used the following commands

It is quite handy to code when the number of item to be popped is a run time decision. But it runs with very a bad efficiency and the code is hard to maintain.

I forgot to add my own answer here. I was using Ruby on Rails so it might not be applicable to your projects in PHP or other frameworks. In my case, I was using Carrierwave gem for uploading the images. My solution was to add the following code to the uploader class to fix the EXIF problem before saving the file.

Then you can convert your third variable in a value inside this range and to use it to color your points.

If you don't want to use RegEx (which seems highly unnecessary given your problem), perhaps you should try something like this:

The simpliest way to wrap a function

... is to manually write a wrapper that would call func() inside itself:

The action occurs when you attempt to call an object which is not a function, as with (). For instance, this will produce the error:

I just want to add that there is a way to get what you want, but it will require to use some a third party library (or that you write the platform dependent code yourself).

As far as I'm concerned, the biggest drawback with cin is that you are required to hit Return, and not just any key.

Assuming you had a key-listener you could quite easily write a function that waits for the user to hit any key. However finding a platform independent key listener is no trivial task, and will most likely require you to load parts of a larger library.

I am thinking something along the lines of:

How to add a file to the last commit in git?

If you didn't push the update in remote then the simple solution is remove last local commit using following command: git reset HEAD^. Then add all files and commit again.

HTTP redirect: 301 (permanent) vs. 302 (temporary)

When a search engine spider finds 301 status code in the response header of a webpage, it understands that this webpage no longer exists, it searches for location header in response pick the new URL and replace the indexed URL with the new one and also transfer pagerank.

So search engine refreshes all indexed URL that no longer exist (301 found) with the new URL, this will retain your old webpage traffic, pagerank and divert it to the new one (you will not lose you traffic of old webpage).

Browser: if a browser finds 301 status code then it caches the mapping of the old URL with the new URL, the client/browser will not attempt to request the original location but use the new location from now on unless the cache is cleared.

When a search engine spider finds 302 status for a webpage, it will only redirect temporarily to the new location and crawl both of the pages. The old webpage URL still exists in the search engine database and it always attempts to request the old location and crawl it. The client/browser will still attempt to request the original location.

What are projection and selection?

Projections and Selections are two unary operations in Relational Algebra and has practical applications in RDBMS (relational database management systems).

In practical sense, yes Projection means selecting specific columns (attributes) from a table and Selection means filtering rows (tuples). Also, for a conventional table, Projection and Selection can be termed as vertical and horizontal slicing or filtering.

I had the similar issue showing the error

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors Query execution failed for dataset 'PrintInvoice'.

Solution: 1) The error may be with the dataset in some cases, you can always check if the dataset is populating the exact data you are expecting by going to the dataset properties and choosing 'Query Designer' and try 'Run', If you can successfully able to pull the fields you are expecting, then you can be sure that there isn't any problem with the dataset, which takes us to next solution.

2) Even though the error message says "Query Failed Execution for the dataset", another probable chances are with the datasource connection, make sure you have connected to the correct datasource that has the tables you need and you have permissions to access that datasource.

The Solution
Check the browser console for the Google Maps JavaScript API error: RefererNotAllowedMapError
Underneath the error it should have: "Your site URL to be authorized: https://example.com/".
Use that url for the referrer and add a wildcard * to the end of it (https://example.com/*, in this case).

How do you rename a Git tag?

If it's published, you can't delete it (without risking being tarred and feathered, that is). The 'Git way' is to do:

The sane thing. Just admit you screwed up, and use a different name. Others have already seen one tag-name, and if you keep the same name, you may be in the situation that two people both have "version X", but they actually have different "X"'s. So just call it "X.1" and be done with it.

Alternatively,

The insane thing. You really want to call the new version "X" too, even though others have already seen the old one. So just use git-tag -f again, as if you hadn't already published the old one.

It's so insane because:

Git does not (and it should not) change tags behind users back. So if somebody already got the old tag, doing a git-pull on your tree shouldn't just make them overwrite the old one.

If somebody got a release tag from you, you cannot just change the tag for them by updating your own one. This is a big security issue, in that people MUST be able to trust their tag-names. If you really want to do the insane thing, you need to just fess up to it, and tell people that you messed up.

What is the difference between a cer, pvk, and pfx file?

In Windows platform, these file types are used for certificate information. Normally used for SSL certificate and Public Key Infrastructure (X.509).

  • CER files: CER file is used to store X.509 certificate. Normally used for SSL certification to verify and identify web servers security. The file contains information about certificate owner and public key. A CER file can be in binary (ASN.1 DER) or encoded with Base-64 with header and footer included (PEM), Windows will recognize either of these layout.
  • PVK files: Stands for Private Key. Windows uses PVK files to store private keys for code signing in various Microsoft products. PVK is proprietary format.
  • PFX files Personal Exchange Format, is a PKCS12 file. This contains a variety of cryptographic information, such as certificates, root authority certificates, certificate chains and private keys. It’s cryptographically protected with passwords to keep private keys private and preserve the integrity of the root certificates. The PFX file is also used in various Microsoft products, such as IIS.
