Programs & Examples On #Firefox4

Version 4 of the Mozilla Firefox browser. Released on March 22, 2011. This version was supported until June 21, 2011.

HTML5 video won't play in Chrome only

With some help from another person, we figured out it was an issue of ordering the source files within the HTML file. I learned that browsers accept the first usable format, and their seems to be an issue with the .m4v file, so I started with the .mp4, then .webm. Here's the order that works in Safari (even on my iPhone 5), Firefox, and Chrome:

<video width="100%" height="400" poster="assets/img/myVideo.jpg" controls="controls" preload="none">
      <!-- MP4 for Safari, IE9, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows Phone 7 -->
      <source type="video/mp4" src="assets/vid/PhysicsEtoys.mp4" />
      <!-- WebM/VP8 for Firefox4, Opera, and Chrome -->
      <source type="video/webm" src="assets/vid/PhysicsEtoys.webm" />
       <!-- M4V for Apple -->
      <source type="video/mp4" src="assets/vid/PhysicsEtoys.m4v" />
      <!-- Ogg/Vorbis for older Firefox and Opera versions -->
      <source type="video/ogg" src="assets/vid/PhysicsEtoys.ogv" />
      <!-- Subtitles -->
      <track kind="subtitles" src="assets/vid/subtitles.srt" srclang="en" />
      <track kind="subtitles" src="assets/vid/subtitles.vtt" srclang="en" />
      <!-- Flash fallback for non-HTML5 browsers without JavaScript -->
      <object width="100%" height="400" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="flashmediaelement.swf">
          <param name="movie" value="flashmediaelement.swf" />
          <param name="flashvars" value="controls=true&file=assets/vid/PhysicsEtoys.mp4" />
          <!-- Image as a last resort -->
          <img src="assets/img/myVideo.jpg" width="320" height="240" title="No video playback capabilities" />
      </object>
  </video>

Now, I'll have to re-check the encoding on the m4v file (perhaps an issue of Baseline vs Main, High, etc.).

Find the IP address of the client in an SSH session

One thumb up for @Nikhil Katre's answer :

Simplest command to get the last 10 users logged in to the machine is last|head.

To get all the users simply use last command

The one using who or pinky did what is basically asked. But But But they don't give historical sessions info.

Which might also be interesting if you want to know someone who has just logged in and logged out already when you start this checking.

if it is a multiuser system. I recommand add the user account you are looking for:

last | grep $USER | head

EDIT:

In my case, both $SSH_CLIENT and $SSH_CONNECTION do not exist.

HttpClient - A task was cancelled?

in my .net core 3.1 applications I am getting two problem where inner cause was timeout exception. 1, one is i am getting aggregate exception and in it's inner exception was timeout exception 2, other case was Task canceled exception

My solution is

                if (ex.InnerException is TimeoutException)
                {

                }
                else if (ex is TaskCanceledException)
                {
                    if ((ex as TaskCanceledException).CancellationToken == null || (ex as TaskCanceledException).CancellationToken.IsCancellationRequested == false)
                    {
                        ex = new TimeoutException("Timeout occurred");
                    }
                }
                Logger.Fatal(string.Format("Exception at calling {0} :{1}", url, ex.Message), ex);
            }

How to disable XDebug

I had following Problem: Even if I set

xdebug.remote_enable=0

Xdebug-Error-Message-Decoration was shown.

My solution:

How to remove rows with any zero value

You can use filter from dplyr package.

Let's call your data frame df

library(dplyr) df1 <- filter(df, Mac1 > 0, Mac2 > 0, Mac3 > 0, Mac4 > 0)

df1 will have only rows with entries above zero. Hope this helps.

How can I quickly sum all numbers in a file?

I prefer to use R for this:

Why do I have to run "composer dump-autoload" command to make migrations work in laravel?

OK so I think i know the issue you're having.

Basically, because Composer can't see the migration files you are creating, you are having to run the dump-autoload command which won't download anything new, but looks for all of the classes it needs to include again. It just regenerates the list of all classes that need to be included in the project (autoload_classmap.php), and this is why your migration is working after you run that command.

How to fix it (possibly) You need to add some extra information to your composer.json file.

"autoload": {
    "classmap": [
        "PATH TO YOUR MIGRATIONS FOLDER"
    ],
}

You need to add the path to your migrations folder to the classmap array. Then run the following three commands...

php artisan clear-compiled
composer dump-autoload
php artisan optimize

This will clear the current compiled files, update the classes it needs and then write them back out so you don't have to do it again.

Ideally, you execute composer dump-autoload -o , for a faster load of your webpages. The only reason it is not default, is because it takes a bit longer to generate (but is only slightly noticable).

Hope you can manage to get this sorted, as its very annoying indeed :(

MySQL Check if username and password matches in Database

//set vars

mysql_select_db("users") or die("no db :'(");
$query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM $tablename WHERE username='$user'");

$numrows = mysql_num_rows($query);

if ($numrows!=0)
{
//while loop
  while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($query))
  {
    $dbusername = $row['username'];
    $dbpassword = $row['password'];
  }
  else
      die("incorrect username/password!");
}
else
  echo "user does not exist!";
}
else
    die("please enter a username and password!");

Prevent jQuery UI dialog from setting focus to first textbox

I found the following code the jQuery UI dialog function for open.

c([]).add(d.find(".ui-dialog-content :tabbable:first")).add(d.find(".ui-dialog-buttonpane :tabbable:first")).add(d).filter(":first").focus();

You can either workaround the jQuery behaviour or change the behaviour.

tabindex -1 works as a workaround.

contenteditable change events

Consider using MutationObserver. These observers are designed to react to changes in the DOM, and as a performant replacement to Mutation Events.

Pros:

  • Fires when any change occurs, which is difficult to achieve by listening to key events as suggested by other answers. For example, all of these work well: drag & drop, italicizing, copy/cut/paste through context menu.
  • Designed with performance in mind.
  • Simple, straightforward code. It's a lot easier to understand and debug code that listens to one event rather than code that listens to 10 events.
  • Google has an excellent mutation summary library which makes using MutationObservers very easy.

Cons:

  • Requires a very recent version of Firefox (14.0+), Chrome (18+), or IE (11+).
  • New API to understand
  • Not a lot of information available yet on best practices or case studies

Learn more:

  • I wrote a little snippet to compare using MutationObserers to handling a variety of events. I used balupton's code since his answer has the most upvotes.
  • Mozilla has an excellent page on the API
  • Take a look at the MutationSummary library

Pass variable to function in jquery AJAX success callback

Since the settings object is tied to that ajax call, you can simply add in the indexer as a custom property, which you can then access using this in the success callback:

//preloader for images on gallery pages
window.onload = function() {
    var urls = ["./img/party/","./img/wedding/","./img/wedding/tree/"];

    setTimeout(function() {
        for ( var i = 0; i < urls.length; i++ ) {
            $.ajax({
                url: urls[i],
                indexValue: i,
                success: function(data) {
                    image_link(data , this.indexValue);

                    function image_link(data, i) {
                        $(data).find("a:contains(.jpg)").each(function(){
                            console.log(i);
                            new Image().src = urls[i] + $(this).attr("href");
                        });
                    }
                }
            });
        };
    }, 1000);
};

Edit: Adding in an updated JSFiddle example, as they seem to have changed how their ECHO endpoints work: https://jsfiddle.net/djujx97n/26/.

To understand how this works see the "context" field on the ajaxSettings object: http://api.jquery.com/jquery.ajax/, specifically this note:

"The this reference within all callbacks is the object in the context option passed to $.ajax in the settings; if context is not specified, this is a reference to the Ajax settings themselves."

What's the best way to identify hidden characters in the result of a query in SQL Server (Query Analyzer)?

To find them, you can use this

;WITH cte AS
(
   SELECT 0 AS CharCode
   UNION ALL
   SELECT CharCode + 1 FROM cte WHERE CharCode <31
)
SELECT
   *
FROM
   mytable T
     cross join cte
WHERE
   EXISTS (SELECT *
        FROM mytable Tx
        WHERE Tx.PKCol = T.PKCol
             AND
              Tx.MyField LIKE '%' + CHAR(cte.CharCode) + '%'
         )

Replacing the EXISTS with a JOIN will allow you to REPLACE them, but you'll get multiple rows... I can't think of a way around that...

Ruby: kind_of? vs. instance_of? vs. is_a?

It is more Ruby-like to ask objects whether they respond to a method you need or not, using respond_to?. This allows both minimal interface and implementation unaware programming.

It is not always applicable of course, thus there is still a possibility to ask about more conservative understanding of "type", which is class or a base class, using the methods you're asking about.

How to work with complex numbers in C?

To extract the real part of a complex-valued expression z, use the notation as __real__ z. Similarly, use __imag__ attribute on the z to extract the imaginary part.

For example;

__complex__ float z;
float r;
float i;
r = __real__ z;
i = __imag__ z;

r is the real part of the complex number "z" i is the imaginary part of the complex number "z"

How to check if a table exists in a given schema

It depends on what you want to test exactly.

Information schema?

To find "whether the table exists" (no matter who's asking), querying the information schema (information_schema.tables) is incorrect, strictly speaking, because (per documentation):

Only those tables and views are shown that the current user has access to (by way of being the owner or having some privilege).

The query provided by @kong can return FALSE, but the table can still exist. It answers the question:

How to check whether a table (or view) exists, and the current user has access to it?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM information_schema.tables
   WHERE  table_schema = 'schema_name'
   AND    table_name   = 'table_name'
   );

The information schema is mainly useful to stay portable across major versions and across different RDBMS. But the implementation is slow, because Postgres has to use sophisticated views to comply to the standard (information_schema.tables is a rather simple example). And some information (like OIDs) gets lost in translation from the system catalogs - which actually carry all information.

System catalogs

Your question was:

How to check whether a table exists?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_catalog.pg_class c
   JOIN   pg_catalog.pg_namespace n ON n.oid = c.relnamespace
   WHERE  n.nspname = 'schema_name'
   AND    c.relname = 'table_name'
   AND    c.relkind = 'r'    -- only tables
   );

Use the system catalogs pg_class and pg_namespace directly, which is also considerably faster. However, per documentation on pg_class:

The catalog pg_class catalogs tables and most everything else that has columns or is otherwise similar to a table. This includes indexes (but see also pg_index), sequences, views, materialized views, composite types, and TOAST tables;

For this particular question you can also use the system view pg_tables. A bit simpler and more portable across major Postgres versions (which is hardly of concern for this basic query):

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_tables
   WHERE  schemaname = 'schema_name'
   AND    tablename  = 'table_name'
   );

Identifiers have to be unique among all objects mentioned above. If you want to ask:

How to check whether a name for a table or similar object in a given schema is taken?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_catalog.pg_class c
   JOIN   pg_catalog.pg_namespace n ON n.oid = c.relnamespace
   WHERE  n.nspname = 'schema_name'
   AND    c.relname = 'table_name'
   );

Alternative: cast to regclass

SELECT 'schema_name.table_name'::regclass

This raises an exception if the (optionally schema-qualified) table (or other object occupying that name) does not exist.

If you do not schema-qualify the table name, a cast to regclass defaults to the search_path and returns the OID for the first table found - or an exception if the table is in none of the listed schemas. Note that the system schemas pg_catalog and pg_temp (the schema for temporary objects of the current session) are automatically part of the search_path.

You can use that and catch a possible exception in a function. Example:

A query like above avoids possible exceptions and is therefore slightly faster.

to_regclass(rel_name) in Postgres 9.4+

Much simpler now:

SELECT to_regclass('schema_name.table_name');

Same as the cast, but it returns ...

... null rather than throwing an error if the name is not found

Open Excel file for reading with VBA without display

Even though you've got your answer, for those that find this question, it is also possible to open an Excel spreadsheet as a JET data store. Borrowing the connection string from a project I've used it on, it will look kinda like this:

strExcelConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & objFile.Path & ";Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes"""
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [RegistrationList$] ORDER BY DateToRegister DESC"

Note that "RegistrationList" is the name of the tab in the workbook. There are a few tutorials floating around on the web with the particulars of what you can and can't do accessing a sheet this way.

Just thought I'd add. :)

Why can't I enter a string in Scanner(System.in), when calling nextLine()-method?

 s=scan.nextLine();

It returns input was skipped.

so you might use

 s=scan.next();

Python error: AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute

When you import lib, you're importing the package. The only file to get evaluated and run in this case is the 0 byte __init__.py in the lib directory.

If you want access to your function, you can do something like this from lib.mod1 import mod1 and then run the mod12 function like so mod1.mod12().

If you want to be able to access mod1 when you import lib, you need to put an import mod1 inside the __init__.py file inside the lib directory.

C++ Vector of pointers

As far as I understand, you create a Movie class:

class Movie
{
private:
  std::string _title;
  std::string _director;
  int         _year;
  int         _rating;
  std::vector<std::string> actors;
};

and having such class, you create a vector instance:

std::vector<Movie*> movies;

so, you can add any movie to your movies collection. Since you are creating a vector of pointers to movies, do not forget to free the resources allocated by your movie instances OR you could use some smart pointer to deallocate the movies automatically:

std::vector<shared_ptr<Movie>> movies;

Removing Python 3 was the worst thing I did since I recently moved to the world of Linux. It removed Firefox, my launcher and, as I read while trying to fix my problem, it may also remove your desktop and terminal! Finally fixed after a long daytime nightmare. Just don't remove Python 3. Keep it there!

How to handle AssertionError in Python and find out which line or statement it occurred on?

The traceback module and sys.exc_info are overkill for tracking down the source of an exception. That's all in the default traceback. So instead of calling exit(1) just re-raise:

try:
    assert "birthday cake" == "ice cream cake", "Should've asked for pie"
except AssertionError:
    print 'Houston, we have a problem.'
    raise

Which gives the following output that includes the offending statement and line number:

Houston, we have a problem.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/tmp/poop.py", line 2, in <module>
    assert "birthday cake" == "ice cream cake", "Should've asked for pie"
AssertionError: Should've asked for pie

Similarly the logging module makes it easy to log a traceback for any exception (including those which are caught and never re-raised):

import logging

try:
    assert False == True
except AssertionError:
    logging.error("Nothing is real but I can't quit...", exc_info=True)

How can I make the cursor turn to the wait cursor?

My approach would be to make all the calculations in a background worker.

Then change the cursor like this:

this.Cursor = Cursors.Wait;

And in the thread's finish event restore the cursor:

this.Cursor = Cursors.Default;

Note, this can also be done for specific controls, so the cursor will be the hourglass only when the mouse is above them.

I verified permissions but all was good (mongod:mongod). As I'm working on a large project and from a similar issue in our dev environment where we had a script consuming all available disk space, I could see in the error messages that mongod needs at least 3.7Gb free disk space to run..

I checked my own disk space only to see that less than 2Gb was remaining. After moving / erasing some data I can successfully start mongod again.

    "version": "0.1.0",
    "configurations": [
        {
            "name": "Launch localhost with sourcemaps",
            "type": "chrome",
            "request": "launch",
            "url": "http://localhost/mypage.html",
            "webRoot": "${workspaceRoot}/app/files",
            "sourceMaps": true
        },
        {
            "name": "Launch index.html (without sourcemaps)",
            "type": "chrome",
            "request": "launch",
            "file": "${workspaceRoot}/index.html"
        },
    ]
}

You must launch Chrome with remote debugging enabled in order for the extension to attach to it.

  • Windows

Right click the Chrome shortcut, and select properties In the "target" field, append --remote-debugging-port=9222 Or in a command prompt, execute /chrome.exe --remote-debugging-port=9222

  • OS X

In a terminal, execute /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --remote-debugging-port=9222

  • Linux

In a terminal, launch google-chrome --remote-debugging-port=9222

FIFO class in Java

Queues are First In First Out structures. You request is pretty vague, but I am guessing that you need only the basic functionality which usually comes out with Queue structures. You can take a look at how you can implement it here.

With regards to your missing package, it is most likely because you will need to either download or create the package yourself by following that tutorial.

Google Map API v3 — set bounds and center

What is the meaning of "operator bool() const"

operator bool() const
{
    return col != 0;
}

Defines how the class is convertable to a boolean value, the const after the () is used to indicate this method does not mutate (change the members of this class).

You would usually use such operators as follows:

airplaysdk sdkInstance;
if (sdkInstance) {
    std::cout << "Instance is active" << std::endl;
} else {
    std::cout << "Instance is in-active error!" << std::endl;
}

SDK Location not found Android Studio + Gradle

To fix this problem, I had to define the ANDROID_HOME environment variable in the Windows OS.

To do this, I went to the System control panel.
I selected "Advanced system settings" in the left column.
On the "Advanced" tab, I selected "Environment Variables" at the bottom.

Here, I did not have an ANDROID_HOME variable defined. For this case, I selected "New..." and:
1) for "Variable name" I typed ANDROID_HOME,
2) for "Variable value", I typed the path to my SDK folder, e.g. "C:\...\AppData\Local\Android\sdk".

I then closed Android Studio and reopened, and everything worked.

Forms authentication timeout vs sessionState timeout

The difference is that one (Forms timeout) has to do with authenticating the user and the other (Session timeout) has to do with how long cached data is stored on the server. So they are very independent things, so one does not take precedence over the other.

Bootstrap 3 grid with no gap

I always add this style to my Bootstrap LESS / SASS:

.row-no-padding {

  }
}

Then in the HTML you can write:

Set ImageView width and height programmatically?

It may be too late but for the sake of others who have the same problem, to set the height of the ImageView:

imageView.getLayoutParams().height = 20;

Important. If you're setting the height after the layout has already been 'laid out', make sure you also call:

imageView.requestLayout();

JSON datetime between Python and JavaScript

For cross-language projects, I found out that strings containing RfC 3339 dates are the best way to go. An RfC 3339 date looks like this:

  1985-04-12T23:20:50.52Z

I think most of the format is obvious. The only somewhat unusual thing may be the "Z" at the end. It stands for GMT/UTC. You could also add a timezone offset like +02:00 for CEST (Germany in summer). I personally prefer to keep everything in UTC until it is displayed.

For displaying, comparisons and storage you can leave it in string format across all languages. If you need the date for calculations easy to convert it back to a native date object in most language.

So generate the JSON like this:

  json.dump(datetime.now().strftime('%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%SZ'))

Unfortunately, Javascript's Date constructor doesn't accept RfC 3339 strings but there are many parsers available on the Internet.

huTools.hujson tries to handle the most common encoding issues you might come across in Python code including date/datetime objects while handling timezones correctly.

How to Set Focus on Input Field using JQuery

Justin's answer did not work for me (Chromium 18, Firefox 43.0.1). jQuery's .focus() creates visual highlight, but text cursor does not appear in the field (jquery 3.1.0).

Inspired by https://www.sitepoint.com/jqueryhtml5-input-focus-cursor-positions/ , I added autofocus attribute to the input field and voila!

function addfield() {
    n=$('table tr').length;
    $('table').append('<tr><td><input name=field'+n+' autofocus></td><td><input name=value'+n+'></td></tr>');
    $('input[name="aa"'+n+']').focus();
}

Single TextView with multiple colored text

I have done this, try it:

TextView textView=(TextView)findViewById(R.id.yourTextView);//init

//here I am appending two string into my textView with two diff colors.
//I have done from fragment so I used here getActivity(),
//If you are trying it from Activity then pass className.this or this;

textView.append(TextViewUtils.getColoredString(getString(R.string.preString),ContextCompat.getColor(getActivity(),R.color.firstColor)));
textView.append(TextViewUtils.getColoredString(getString(R.string.postString),ContextCompat.getColor(getActivity(),R.color.secondColor)));

Inside your TextViewUtils class add this method:

 /***
 *
 * @param mString this will setup to your textView
 * @param colorId text will fill with this color.
 * @return string with color, it will append to textView.
 */
public static Spannable getColoredString(String mString, int colorId) {
    Spannable spannable = new SpannableString(mString);
    spannable.setSpan(new ForegroundColorSpan(colorId), 0, spannable.length(), Spannable.SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE);
    Log.d(TAG,spannable.toString());
    return spannable;
}

How to inject Javascript in WebBrowser control?

What you want to do is use Page.RegisterStartupScript(key, script) :

See here for more details: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa478975.aspx

What you basically do is build your javascript string, pass it to that method and give it a unique id( in case you try to register it twice on a page.)

HttpServletRequest - how to obtain the referring URL?

As all have mentioned it is

request.getHeader("referer");

I would like to add some more details about security aspect of referer header in contrast with accepted answer. In Open Web Application Security Project(OWASP) cheat sheets, under Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) Prevention Cheat Sheet it mentions about importance of referer header.

More importantly for this recommended Same Origin check, a number of HTTP request headers can't be set by JavaScript because they are on the 'forbidden' headers list. Only the browsers themselves can set values for these headers, making them more trustworthy because not even an XSS vulnerability can be used to modify them.

The Source Origin check recommended here relies on three of these protected headers: Origin, Referer, and Host, making it a pretty strong CSRF defense all on its own.

You can refer Forbidden header list here. User agent(ie:browser) has the full control over these headers not the user.

Warning: mysqli_query() expects at least 2 parameters, 1 given. What?

The issue is that you're not saving the mysqli connection. Change your connect to:

$aVar = mysqli_connect('localhost','tdoylex1_dork','dorkk','tdoylex1_dork');

And then include it in your query:

$query1 = mysqli_query($aVar, "SELECT name1 FROM users
    ORDER BY RAND()
    LIMIT 1");
$aName1 = mysqli_fetch_assoc($query1);
$name1 = $aName1['name1'];

Also don't forget to enclose your connections variables as strings as I have above. This is what's causing the error but you're using the function wrong, mysqli_query returns a query object but to get the data out of this you need to use something like mysqli_fetch_assoc http://php.net/manual/en/mysqli-result.fetch-assoc.php to actually get the data out into a variable as I have above.

Correctly determine if date string is a valid date in that format

You can use DateTime::createFromFormat() for this purpose:

function validateDate($date, $format = 'Y-m-d')
{
    $d = DateTime::createFromFormat($format, $date);
    // The Y ( 4 digits year ) returns TRUE for any integer with any number of digits so changing the comparison from == to === fixes the issue.
    return $d && $d->format($format) === $date;
}

UITableView - scroll to the top

I've encountered an issue calling trying some of the methods on an empty tableView. Here's another option for Swift 4 that handles empty tableviews.

extension UITableView {
  func hasRowAtIndexPath(indexPath: IndexPath) -> Bool {
    return indexPath.section < self.numberOfSections && indexPath.row < self.numberOfRows(inSection: indexPath.section)
  }

  func scrollToTop(animated: Bool) {
    let indexPath = IndexPath(row: 0, section: 0)
    if self.hasRowAtIndexPath(indexPath: indexPath) {
      self.scrollToRow(at: indexPath, at: .top, animated: animated)
    }
  }
}

Usage:

// from yourViewController or yourTableViewController

How can I override the OnBeforeUnload dialog and replace it with my own?

You can detect which button (ok or cancel) pressed by user, because the onunload function called only when the user choise leaveing the page. Althoug in this funcion the possibilities is limited, because the DOM is being collapsed. You can run javascript, but the ajax POST doesn't do anything therefore you can't use this methode for automatic logout. But there is a solution for that. The window.open('logout.php') executed in the onunload funcion, so the user will logged out with a new window opening.

function onunload = (){
    window.open('logout.php');
}

This code called when user leave the page or close the active window and user logged out by 'logout.php'. The new window close immediately when logout php consist of code:

window.close();

How can I maintain fragment state when added to the back stack?

I came across this problem in a Fragment containing a map, which has too many setup details to save/reload. My solution was to basically keep this Fragment active the whole time (similar to what @kaushal mentioned).

Say you have current Fragment A and wants to display Fragment B. Summarizing the consequences:

  • replace() - remove Fragment A and replace it with Fragment B. Fragment A will be recreated once brought to the front again
  • add() - (create and) add a Fragment B and it overlap Fragment A, which is still active in the background
  • remove() - can be used to remove Fragment B and return to A. Fragment B will be recreated when called later on

Hence, if you want to keep both Fragments "saved", just toggle them using hide()/show().

Pros: easy and simple method to keep multiple Fragments running
Cons: you use a lot more memory to keep all of them running. May run into problems, e.g. displaying many large bitmaps

Html.ActionLink as a button or an image, not a link

Call me simplistic, but I just do:

<a href="<%: Url.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") %>">

</a>

And you just take care of the hyperlink highlight. Our users love it :)

How to use WinForms progress bar?

There is Task exists, It is unnesscery using BackgroundWorker, Task is more simple. for example:

ProgressDialog.cs:

   public partial class ProgressDialog : Form
    {
        public System.Windows.Forms.ProgressBar Progressbar { get { return this.progressBar1; } }

        public ProgressDialog()
        {
            InitializeComponent();
        }

        public void RunAsync(Action action)
        {
            Task.Run(action);
        }
    }

Done! Then you can reuse ProgressDialog anywhere:

var progressDialog = new ProgressDialog();
progressDialog.Progressbar.Value = 0;
progressDialog.Progressbar.Maximum = 100;

progressDialog.RunAsync(() =>
{
    for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000)
        this.progressDialog.Progressbar.BeginInvoke((MethodInvoker)(() => {
            this.progressDialog.Progressbar.Value += 1;
        }));
    }
});

progressDialog.ShowDialog();

Default value in Go's method

No, there is no way to specify defaults. I believer this is done on purpose to enhance readability, at the cost of a little more time (and, hopefully, thought) on the writer's end.

I think the proper approach to having a "default" is to have a new function which supplies that default to the more generic function. Having this, your code becomes clearer on your intent. For example:

func SaySomething(say string) {
    // All the complicated bits involved in saying something
}

func SayHello() {
    SaySomething("Hello")
}

With very little effort, I made a function that does a common thing and reused the generic function. You can see this in many libraries, fmt.Println for example just adds a newline to what fmt.Print would otherwise do. When reading someone's code, however, it is clear what they intend to do by the function they call. With default values, I won't know what is supposed to be happening without also going to the function to reference what the default value actually is.

What is thread safe or non-thread safe in PHP?

Apache MPM prefork with modphp is used because it is easy to configure/install. Performance-wise it is fairly inefficient. My preferred way to do the stack, FastCGI/PHP-FPM. That way you can use the much faster MPM Worker. The whole PHP remains non-threaded, but Apache serves threaded (like it should).

So basically, from bottom to top

Linux

Apache + MPM Worker + ModFastCGI (NOT FCGI) |(or)| Cherokee |(or)| Nginx

PHP-FPM + APC

ModFCGI does not correctly support PHP-FPM, or any external FastCGI applications. It only supports non-process managed FastCGI scripts. PHP-FPM is the PHP FastCGI process manager.

How to automate browsing using python?

All answers are old, I recommend and I am a big fan of requests

From homepage:

Python’s standard urllib2 module provides most of the HTTP capabilities you need, but the API is thoroughly broken. It was built for a different time — and a different web. It requires an enormous amount of work (even method overrides) to perform the simplest of tasks.

Things shouldn't be this way. Not in Python.

How can I create a war file of my project in NetBeans?

It's possible that you already have a war file and don't know it - netbeans does most of the work for you and I believe it creates a distributable war file by default. If you created a web project and successfully built it, it will be in the "dist" directory off your project root.

Set QLineEdit to accept only numbers

The Regex Validator

So far, the other answers provide solutions for only a relatively finite number of digits. However, if you're concerned with an arbitrary or a variable number of digits you can use a QRegExpValidator, passing a regex that only accepts digits (as noted by user2962533's comment). Here's a minimal, complete example:

#include <QApplication>
#include <QLineEdit>
#include <QRegExpValidator>

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    QApplication app(argc, argv);

    QLineEdit le;
    le.setValidator(new QRegExpValidator(QRegExp("[0-9]*"), &le));
    le.show();

    return app.exec();
}

The QRegExpValidator has its merits (and that's only an understatement). It allows for a bunch of other useful validations:

QRegExp("[1-9][0-9]*") // leading digit must be 1 to 9 (prevents leading zeroes).
QRegExp("\\d*") // allows matching for unicode digits (e.g. for
                          //    Arabic-Indic numerals such as ???).
QRegExp("[0-9]+") // input must have at least 1 digit.
QRegExp("[0-9]{8,32}") // input must be between 8 to 32 digits (e.g. for some basic
                          //    password/special-code checks).
QRegExp("[0-1]{,4}")      //  matches at most four 0s and 1s.
QRegExp("0x[0-9a-fA-F]") // matches a hexadecimal number with one hex digit.
QRegExp("[0-9]{13}") // matches exactly 13 digits (e.g. perhaps for ISBN?).
QRegExp("[0-9]{1,3}\\.[0-9]{1,3}\\.[0-9]{1,3}\\.[0-9]{1,3}")
                          // matches a format similar to an ip address.
                          // N.B. invalid addresses can still be entered: "999.999.999.999".

More On Line-edit Behaviour

According to documentation:

Note that if there is a validator set on the line edit, the returnPressed()/editingFinished() signals will only be emitted if the validator returns QValidator::Acceptable.

Thus, the line-edit will allow the user to input digits even if the minimum amount has not yet been reached. For example, even if the user hasn't inputted any text against the regex "[0-9]{3,}" (which requires at least 3 digits), the line-edit still allows the user to type input to reach that minimum requirement. However, if the user finishes editing without satsifying the requirement of "at least 3 digits", the input would be invalid; the signals returnPressed() and editingFinished() won't be emitted.

If the regex had a maximum-bound (e.g. "[0-1]{,4}"), then the line-edit will stop any input past 4 characters. Additionally, for character sets (i.e. [0-9], [0-1], [0-9A-F], etc.) the line-edit only allows characters from that particular set to be inputted.

Note that I've only tested this with Qt 5.11 on a macOS, not on other Qt versions or operating systems. But given Qt's cross-platform schema...

...never use a for in loop to enumerate over an array. Never. Use good old for(var i = 0; i<arr.length; i++)

?

It is worth highlighting the section in the Douglas Crockford extract

...The second form should be used with objects...

If you require an associative array ( aka hashtable / dictionary ) where keys are named instead of numerically indexed, you will have to implement this as an object, e.g. var myAssocArray = {key1: "value1", key2: "value2"...};.

In this case myAssocArray.length will come up null (because this object doesn't have a 'length' property), and your i < myAssocArray.length won't get you very far. In addition to providing greater convenience, I would expect associative arrays to offer performance advantages in many situations, as the array keys can be useful properties (i.e. an array member's ID property or name), meaning you don't have to iterate through a lengthy array repeatedly evaluating if statements to find the array entry you're after.

Anyway, thanks also for the explanation of the JSLint error messages, I will use the 'isOwnProperty' check now when interating through my myriad associative arrays!

How to solve Notice: Undefined index: id in C:\xampp\htdocs\invmgt\manufactured_goods\change.php on line 21

if you are getting id from url try

$id = (isset($_GET['id']) ? $_GET['id'] : '');

if getting from form you need to use POST method cause your form has method="post"

 $id = (isset($_POST['id']) ? $_POST['id'] : '');

For php notices use isset() or empty() to check values exist or not or initialize variable first with blank or a value

$id= '';

How to create a windows service from java app

I always just use sc.exe (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192). It should be installed on XP from SP1, and if it's not in your flavor of Vista, you can download load it with the Vista resource kit.

I haven't done anything too complicated with Java, but using either a fully qualified command line argument (x:\java.exe ....) or creating a script with Ant to include depencies and set parameters works fine for me.

Set Session variable using javascript in PHP

In JavaScript:

jQuery('#div_session_write').load('session_write.php?session_name=new_value');

In session_write.php file:

<?

?>

In HTML:

<div id='div_session_write'> </div>

How to split large text file in windows?

Of course there is! Win CMD can do a lot more than just split text files :)

Split a text file into separate files of 'max' lines each:

Split text file (max lines each):
: Initialize
set input=file.txt
set max=10000

set /a line=1 >nul
set /a file=1 >nul
set out=!file!_%input%
set /a max+=1 >nul

echo Number of lines in %input%:
find /c /v "" < %input%

: Split file
for /f "tokens=* delims=[" %i in ('type "%input%" ^| find /v /n ""') do (

if !line!==%max% (
set /a line=1 >nul
set /a file+=1 >nul
set out=!file!_%input%
echo Writing file: !out!
)

REM Write next file
set a=%i
set a=!a:*]=]!
echo:!a:~1!>>out!
set /a line+=1 >nul
)

If above code hangs or crashes, this example code splits files faster (by writing data to intermediate files instead of keeping everything in memory):

eg. To split a file with 7,600 lines into smaller files of maximum 3000 lines.

  1. Generate regexp string/pattern files with set command to be fed to /g flag of findstr

list1.txt

\[[0-9]\]
\[[0-9][0-9]\]
\[[0-9][0-9][0-9]\]
\[[0-2][0-9][0-9][0-9]\]

list2.txt

\[[3-5][0-9][0-9][0-9]\]

list3.txt

\[[6-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]\]

  1. Split the file into smaller files:
type "%input%" | find /v /n "" | findstr /b /r /g:list1.txt > file1.txt
type "%input%" | find /v /n "" | findstr /b /r /g:list2.txt > file2.txt
type "%input%" | find /v /n "" | findstr /b /r /g:list3.txt > file3.txt
  1. remove prefixed line numbers for each file split:
    eg. for the 1st file:
for /f "tokens=* delims=[" %i in ('type "%cd%\file1.txt"') do (
set a=%i
set a=!a:*]=]!
echo:!a:~1!>>file_1.txt)

Notes:
Works with leading whitespace, blank lines & whitespace lines.

Tested on Win 10 x64 CMD, on 4.4GB text file, 5651982 lines.

How to access the request body when POSTing using Node.js and Express?

var express = require('express');
var bodyParser = require('body-parser');
var app = express();
app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({ extended: false }));
app.use(bodyParser.json())

var port = 9000;

app.post('/post/data', function(req, res) {
    console.log('receiving data...');
    console.log('body is ',req.body);
    res.send(req.body);
});

// start the server
app.listen(port);
console.log('Server started! At http://localhost:' + port);

This will help you. I assume you are sending body in json.

Display an image with Python

Your code:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.image as mpimg

What it should be:

plt.imshow(mpimg.imread('MyImage.png'))
File_name = mpimg.imread('FilePath')
plt.imshow(FileName)
plt.show()

you're missing a plt.show() unless you're in Jupyter notebook, other IDE's do not automatically display plots so you have to use plt.show() each time you want to display a plot or made a change to an existing plot in follow up code.

WRONGTYPE Operation against a key holding the wrong kind of value php

I faced this issue when trying to set something to redis. The problem was that I previously used "set" method to set data with a certain key, like

$redis->set('persons', $persons)

Later I decided to change to "hSet" method, and I tried it this way

foreach($persons as $person){
    $redis->hSet('persons', $person->id, $person);
}

Then I got the aforementioned error. So, what I had to do is to go to redis-cli and manually delete "persons" entry with

del persons

It simply couldn't write different data structure under existing key, so I had to delete the entry and hSet then.

What's onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)

As Dhruv Gairola answered, you can save the state of the application by using Bundle savedInstanceState. I am trying to give a very simple example that new learners like me can understand easily.

Suppose, you have a simple fragment with a TextView and a Button. Each time you clicked the button the text changes. Now, change the orientation of you device/emulator and notice that you lost the data (means the changed data after clicking you got) and fragment starts as the first time again. By using Bundle savedInstanceState we can get rid of this. If you take a look into the life cyle of the fragment.Fragment Lifecylce you will get that a method "onSaveInstanceState" is called when the fragment is about to destroyed.

So, we can save the state means the changed text value into that bundle like this

 int counter  = 0;
 @Override
 public void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState) {
    super.onSaveInstanceState(outState);
    outState.putInt("value",counter);
 }

After you make the orientation the "onCreate" method will be called right? so we can just do this

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

    if(savedInstanceState == null){
        //it is the first time the fragment is being called
        counter = 0;
    }else{
        //not the first time so we will check SavedInstanceState bundle
        counter = savedInstanceState.getInt("value",0); //here zero is the default value
    }
}

Now, you won't lose your value after the orientation. The modified value always will be displayed.

JavaScript - Getting HTML form values

Here is an example from W3Schools:

function myFunction() {
    var elements = document.getElementById("myForm").elements;
    var obj ={};
    for(var i = 0 ; i < elements.length ; i++){
        var item = elements.item(i);
        obj[item.name] = item.value;
    }

    document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML = JSON.stringify(obj);
}

The demo can be found here.

Xcode iOS 8 Keyboard types not supported

I too had this problem after updating to the latest Xcode Beta. The settings on the simulator are refreshed, so the laptop (external) keyboard was being detected. If you simply press:

 iOS Simulator -> Hardware -> Keyboard -> Connect Hardware Keyboard

then the software keyboard will be displayed once again.

How to set specific window (frame) size in java swing?

Most layout managers work best with a component's preferredSize, and most GUI's are best off allowing the components they contain to set their own preferredSizes based on their content or properties. To use these layout managers to their best advantage, do call pack() on your top level containers such as your JFrames before making them visible as this will tell these managers to do their actions -- to layout their components.

Often when I've needed to play a more direct role in setting the size of one of my components, I'll override getPreferredSize and have it return a Dimension that is larger than the super.preferredSize (or if not then it returns the super's value).

For example, here's a small drag-a-rectangle app that I created for another question on this site:

import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   private static final int RECT_W = 90;
   private static final int RECT_H = 70;
   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;
   private static final Color DRAW_RECT_COLOR = Color.black;
   private static final Color DRAG_RECT_COLOR = new Color(180, 200, 255);
   private Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(25, 25, RECT_W, RECT_H);
   private boolean dragging = false;
   private int deltaX = 0;
   private int deltaY = 0;

   public MoveRect() {
      MyMouseAdapter myMouseAdapter = new MyMouseAdapter();
      addMouseListener(myMouseAdapter);
      addMouseMotionListener(myMouseAdapter);
   }

   @Override
   protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
      super.paintComponent(g);
      if (rect != null) {
         Color c = dragging ? DRAG_RECT_COLOR : DRAW_RECT_COLOR;
         g.setColor(c);
         Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
         g2.draw(rect);
      }
   }

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

   private class MyMouseAdapter extends MouseAdapter {

      @Override
      public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) {
         Point mousePoint = e.getPoint();
         if (rect.contains(mousePoint)) {
            dragging = true;
            deltaX = rect.x - mousePoint.x;
            deltaY = rect.y - mousePoint.y;
         }
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) {
         dragging = false;
         repaint();
      }

      @Override
      public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e) {
         Point p2 = e.getPoint();
         if (dragging) {
            int x = p2.x + deltaX;
            int y = p2.y + deltaY;
            rect = new Rectangle(x, y, RECT_W, RECT_H);
            MoveRect.this.repaint();
         }
      }
   }

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

Note that my main class is a JPanel, and that I override JPanel's getPreferredSize:

public class MoveRect extends JPanel {
   //.... deleted constants

   private static final int PREF_W = 600;
   private static final int PREF_H = 300;

   //.... deleted fields and constants

   //... deleted methods and constructors

   @Override
   public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
      return new Dimension(PREF_W, PREF_H);
   }

Also note that when I display my GUI, I place it into a JFrame, call pack(); on the JFrame, set its position, and then call setVisible(true); on my JFrame:

   private static void createAndShowGui() {
      MoveRect mainPanel = new MoveRect();

      JFrame frame = new JFrame("MoveRect");
      frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
      frame.getContentPane().add(mainPanel);
      frame.pack();
      frame.setLocationByPlatform(true);
      frame.setVisible(true);
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            createAndShowGui();
         }
      });
   }
}

npm install error - unable to get local issuer certificate

Anyone gets this error when 'npm install' is trying to fetch a package from HTTPS server with a self-signed or invalid certificate.

Quick and insecure solution:

npm config set strict-ssl false

Why this solution is insecure? The above command tells npm to connect and fetch module from server even server do not have valid certificate and server identity is not verified. So if there is a proxy server between npm client and actual server, it provided man in middle attack opportunity to an intruder.

Secure solution:

If any module in your package.json is hosted on a server with self-signed CA certificate then npm is unable to identify that server with an available system CA certificates. So you need to provide CA certificate for server validation with the explicit configuration in .npmrc. In .npmrc you need to provide cafile, please refer more detail about cafile configuration here

cafile=./ca-certs.pem

In ca-certs file, you can add any number of CA certificates(public) that you required to identify servers. The certificate should be in “Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER)(PEM)” format.

For example,

# cat ca-certs.pem
DigiCert Global Root CA
=======================
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
CAUw7C29C79Fv1C5qfPrmAE.....
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5
========================================
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
MIIE0zCCA7ugAwIBAgIQ......
-----END CERTIFICATE-----

Note: once you provide cafile configuration in .npmrc, npm try to identify all server using CA certificate(s) provided in cafile only, it won't check system CA certificate bundles then. If someone wants all well-known public CA authority certificat bundle then can get from here.

One other situation when you get this error:

If you have mentioned Git URL as a dependency in package.json and git is on invalid/self-signed certificate then also npm throws a similar error. You can fix it with following configuration for git client

git config --global http.sslVerify false

Get position/offset of element relative to a parent container?

Sure is easy with pure JS, just do this, work for fixed and animated HTML 5 panels too, i made and try this code and it works for any brower (include IE 8):

<script type="text/javascript">
    function fGetCSSProperty(s, e) {
        try { return s.currentStyle ? s.currentStyle[e] : window.getComputedStyle(s)[e]; }
        catch (x) { return null; }
    }
    function fGetOffSetParent(s) {
        var a = s.offsetParent || document.body;

        while (a && a.tagName && a != document.body && fGetCSSProperty(a, 'position') == 'static')
            a = a.offsetParent;
        return a;
    }
    function GetPosition(s) {
        var b = fGetOffSetParent(s);

        return { Left: (b.offsetLeft + s.offsetLeft), Top: (b.offsetTop + s.offsetTop) };
    }
</script>

WCF vs ASP.NET Web API

The new ASP.NET Web API is a continuation of the previous WCF Web API project (although some of the concepts have changed).

WCF was originally created to enable SOAP-based services. For simpler RESTful or RPCish services (think clients like jQuery) ASP.NET Web API should be good choice.

For us, WCF is used for SOAP and Web API for REST. I wish Web API supported SOAP too. We are not using advanced features of WCF. Here is comparison from MSDN:

enter image description here

ASP.net Web API is all about HTTP and REST based GET,POST,PUT,DELETE with well know ASP.net MVC style of programming and JSON returnable; web API is for all the light weight process and pure HTTP based components. For one to go ahead with WCF even for simple or simplest single web service it will bring all the extra baggage. For light weight simple service for ajax or dynamic calls always WebApi just solves the need. This neatly complements or helps in parallel to the ASP.net MVC.

Check out the podcast : Hanselminutes Podcast 264 - This is not your father's WCF - All about the WebAPI with Glenn Block by Scott Hanselman for more information.

In the scenarios listed below you should go for WCF:

  1. If you need to send data on protocols like TCP, MSMQ or MIME
  2. If the consuming client just knows how to consume SOAP messages

WEB API is a framework for developing RESTful/HTTP services.

There are so many clients that do not understand SOAP like Browsers, HTML5, in those cases WEB APIs are a good choice.

HTTP services header specifies how to secure service, how to cache the information, type of the message body and HTTP body can specify any type of content like HTML not just XML as SOAP services.

Why do I get "Procedure expects parameter '@statement' of type 'ntext/nchar/nvarchar'." when I try to use sp_executesql?

I had missed another tiny detail: I forgot the brackets "(100)" behind NVARCHAR.

how to create a logfile in php?

To write to a log file and make a new one each day, you could use date("j.n.Y") as part of the filename.

//Something to write to txt log
$log  = "User: ".$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'].' - '.date("F j, Y, g:i a").PHP_EOL.
        "Attempt: ".($result[0]['success']=='1'?'Success':'Failed').PHP_EOL.
        "User: ".$username.PHP_EOL.
        "-------------------------".PHP_EOL;
//Save string to log, use FILE_APPEND to append.
file_put_contents('./log_'.date("j.n.Y").'.log', $log, FILE_APPEND);

So you would place that within your hasAccess() method.

public function hasAccess($username,$password){
    $form = array();
    $form['username'] = $username;
    $form['password'] = $password;

    $securityDAO = $this->getDAO('SecurityDAO');
    $result = $securityDAO->hasAccess($form);

    //Write action to txt log
    $log  = "User: ".$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'].' - '.date("F j, Y, g:i a").PHP_EOL.
            "Attempt: ".($result[0]['success']=='1'?'Success':'Failed').PHP_EOL.
            "User: ".$username.PHP_EOL.
            "-------------------------".PHP_EOL;
    //-
    file_put_contents('./log_'.date("j.n.Y").'.txt', $log, FILE_APPEND);

    if($result[0]['success']=='1'){
        $this->Session->add('user_id', $result[0]['id']);
        //$this->Session->add('username', $result[0]['username']);
        //$this->Session->add('roleid', $result[0]['roleid']);
        return $this->status(0,true,'auth.success',$result);
    }else{
        return $this->status(0,false,'auth.failed',$result);
    }
}

Validating a Textbox field for only numeric input.

You may try the TryParse method which allows you to parse a string into an integer and return a boolean result indicating the success or failure of the operation.

int distance;
if (int.TryParse(txtEvDistance.Text, out distance))
{
    // it's a valid integer => you could use the distance variable here
}

How to list the tables in a SQLite database file that was opened with ATTACH?

It appears you need to go through the sqlite_master table, like this:

SELECT * FROM dbname.sqlite_master WHERE type='table';

And then manually go through each table with a SELECT or similar to look at the rows.

The .DUMP and .SCHEMA commands doesn't appear to see the database at all.

AsyncTask Android example

When you are in the worker thread, you can not directly manipulate UI elements on Android.

When you are using AsyncTask please understand the callback methods.

For example:

public class MyAyncTask extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void>{

    @Override
    protected void onPreExecute() {
        // Here you can show progress bar or something on the similar lines.
        // Since you are in a UI thread here.
        super.onPreExecute();
    }

    @Override
    protected void onPostExecute(Void aVoid) {
        super.onPostExecute(aVoid);
        // After completing execution of given task, control will return here.
        // Hence if you want to populate UI elements with fetched data, do it here.
    }

    @Override
    protected void onProgressUpdate(Void... values) {
        super.onProgressUpdate(values);
        // You can track you progress update here
    }

    @Override
    protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) {
        // Here you are in the worker thread and you are not allowed to access UI thread from here.
        // Here you can perform network operations or any heavy operations you want.
        return null;
    }
}

FYI: To access the UI thread from a worker thread, you either use runOnUiThread() method or post method on your view.

For instance:

runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
    textView.setText("something.");
});

or
    yourview.post(new Runnable() {
    yourview.setText("something");
});

This will help you know the things better. Hence in you case, you need to set your textview in the onPostExecute() method.

How do I concatenate two strings in Java?

For exact concatenation operation of two string please use:

In your case use + instead of .

SQL Server 2008 Insert with WHILE LOOP

First of all I'd like to say that I 100% agree with John Saunders that you must avoid loops in SQL in most cases especially in production.

But occasionally as a one time thing to populate a table with a hundred records for testing purposes IMHO it's just OK to indulge yourself to use a loop.

For example in your case to populate your table with records with hospital ids between 16 and 100 and make emails and descriptions distinct you could've used

CREATE PROCEDURE populateHospitals
AS
DECLARE @hid INT;
SET @hid=16;
WHILE @hid < 100
BEGIN
    INSERT hospitals ([Hospital ID], Email, Description)
    VALUES(@hid, 'user' + LTRIM(STR(@hid)) + '@mail.com', 'Sample Description' + LTRIM(STR(@hid)));
    SET @hid = @hid + 1;
END

And result would be

ID   Hospital ID Email            Description
---- ----------- ---------------- ---------------------
1    16          [email protected]  Sample Description16
2    17          [email protected]  Sample Description17
...
84   99          [email protected]  Sample Description99

How to convert NUM to INT in R?

Use as.integer:

set.seed(1)
x <- runif(5, 0, 100)
x
[1] 26.55087 37.21239 57.28534 90.82078 20.16819

as.integer(x)
[1] 26 37 57 90 20

Test for class:

xx <- as.integer(x)
str(xx)
 int [1:5] 26 37 57 90 20

Why can't variables be declared in a switch statement?

The whole switch statement is in the same scope. To get around it, do this:

switch (val)
{
    case VAL:
    {
        // This **will** work
        int newVal = 42;
    }
    break;

    case ANOTHER_VAL:
      ...
    break;
}

Note the brackets.

How can I use mySQL replace() to replace strings in multiple records?

How to validate a credit card number

This works: http://jsfiddle.net/WHKeK/

function validate_creditcardnumber()
{
    var re16digit=/^\d{16}$/
    if (document.myform.CreditCardNumber.value.search(re16digit) == -1)
        alert("Please enter your 16 digit credit card numbers");
    return false;
}

You have a typo. You call the variable re16digit, but in your search you have re10digit.

How to remove all MySQL tables from the command-line without DROP database permissions?

mysql> drop database [database name];
mysql> create database [database name];

Center icon in a div - horizontally and vertically

Here is a way to center content both vertically and horizontally in any situation, which is useful when you do not know the width or height or both:

CSS

#container {
    display: table;
    width: 300px; /* not required, just for example */
    height: 400px; /* not required, just for example */
}

#update {
    display: table-cell;
    vertical-align: middle;
    text-align: center;
}

HTML

<div id="container">
    <a id="update" href="#">
        <i class="icon-refresh"></i>
    </a>
</div>

JSFiddle

Note that the width and height values are just for demonstration here, you can change them to anything you want (or remove them entirely) and it will still work because the vertical centering here is a product of the way the table-cell display property works.

Apply function to each column in a data frame observing each columns existing data type

A solution using retype() from hablar to coerce factors to character or numeric type depending on feasability. I'd use dplyr for applying max to each column.

Code

library(dplyr)
library(hablar)

# Retype() simplifies each columns type, e.g. always removes factors
d <- d %>% retype()

# Check max for each column
d %>% summarise_all(max)

Result

Not the new column types.

     v1 v2       v3 v4
  <dbl> <chr> <dbl> <chr>
1 0.974 j      1.09 J

Data

# Sample data borrowed from @joran
d <- data.frame(v1 = runif(10), v2 = letters[1:10],
                v3 = rnorm(10), v4 = LETTERS[1:10],stringsAsFactors = TRUE)

Default interface methods are only supported starting with Android N

Use this code in your build.gradle

android {
    compileOptions {
        incremental true
        sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_1_8
        targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_1_8
    }
}

What does int argc, char *argv[] mean?

int main();

This is a simple declaration. It cannot take any command line arguments.

int main(int argc, char* argv[]);

This declaration is used when your program must take command-line arguments. When run like such:

myprogram arg1 arg2 arg3

argc, or Argument Count, will be set to 4 (four arguments), and argv, or Argument Vectors, will be populated with string pointers to "myprogram", "arg1", "arg2", and "arg3". The program invocation (myprogram) is included in the arguments!

Alternatively, you could use:

int main(int argc, char** argv);

This is also valid.

There is another parameter you can add:

int main (int argc, char *argv[], char *envp[])

The envp parameter also contains environment variables. Each entry follows this format:

VARIABLENAME=VariableValue

like this:

SHELL=/bin/bash

The environment variables list is null-terminated.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT use any argv or envp values directly in calls to system()! This is a huge security hole as malicious users could set environment variables to command-line commands and (potentially) cause massive damage. In general, just don't use system(). There is almost always a better solution implemented through C libraries.

How to make g++ search for header files in a specific directory?

Headers included with #include <> will be searched in all default directories , but you can also add your own location in the search path with -I command line arg.

I saw your edit you could install your headers in default locations usually

 /usr/local/include
 libdir/gcc/target/version/include
 /usr/target/include
 /usr/include

Confirm with compiler docs though.

Task not serializable: java.io.NotSerializableException when calling function outside closure only on classes not objects

FYI in Spark 2.4 a lot of you will probably encounter this issue. Kryo serialization has gotten better but in many cases you cannot use spark.kryo.unsafe=true or the naive kryo serializer.

For a quick fix try changing the following in your Spark configuration

spark.kryo.unsafe="false"

OR

spark.serializer="org.apache.spark.serializer.JavaSerializer"

I modify custom RDD transformations that I encounter or personally write by using explicit broadcast variables and utilizing the new inbuilt twitter-chill api, converting them from rdd.map(row => to rdd.mapPartitions(partition => { functions.

Example

Old (not-great) Way

val sampleMap = Map("index1" -> 1234, "index2" -> 2345)
val outputRDD = rdd.map(row => {
    val value = sampleMap.get(row._1)
    value
})

Alternative (better) Way

import com.twitter.chill.MeatLocker
val sampleMap = Map("index1" -> 1234, "index2" -> 2345)
val brdSerSampleMap = spark.sparkContext.broadcast(MeatLocker(sampleMap))

rdd.mapPartitions(partition => {
    val deSerSampleMap = brdSerSampleMap.value.get
    partition.map(row => {
        val value = sampleMap.get(row._1)
        value
    }).toIterator
})

This new way will only call the broadcast variable once per partition which is better. You will still need to use Java Serialization if you do not register classes.

Are Git forks actually Git clones?

I think fork is a copy of other repository but with your account modification. for example, if you directly clone other repository locally, the remote object origin is still using the account who you clone from. You can't commit and contribute your code. It is just a pure copy of codes. Otherwise, If you fork a repository, it will clone the repo with the update of your account setting in you github account. And then cloning the repo in the context of your account, you can commit your codes.

pass parameter by link_to ruby on rails

Try:

<%= link_to "Add to cart", {:controller => "car", :action => "add_to_cart", :car => car.id }%>

and then in your controller

@car = Car.find(params[:car])

which, will find in your 'cars' table (as with rails pluralization) in your DB a car with id == to car.id

hope it helps! happy coding

Remove plot axis values

Change the axis_colour to match the background and if you are modifying the background dynamically you will need to update the axis_colour simultaneously. * The shared picture shows the graph/plot example using mock data ()

Parsing JSON from URL

Here is a easy method.

First parse the JSON from url -

public String readJSONFeed(String URL) {
    StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder();
    HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
    HttpGet httpGet = new HttpGet(URL);

    try {

        HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(httpGet);
        StatusLine statusLine = response.getStatusLine();
        int statusCode = statusLine.getStatusCode();

        if (statusCode == 200) {

            HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity();
            InputStream inputStream = entity.getContent();
            BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(
                    new InputStreamReader(inputStream));
            String line;
            while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) {
                stringBuilder.append(line);
            }

            inputStream.close();

        } else {
            Log.d("JSON", "Failed to download file");
        }
    } catch (Exception e) {
        Log.d("readJSONFeed", e.getLocalizedMessage());
    }
    return stringBuilder.toString();
}

Then place a task and then read the desired value from JSON -

private class ReadPlacesFeedTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, String> {
    protected String doInBackground(String... urls) {

        return readJSONFeed(urls[0]);
    }

    protected void onPostExecute(String result) {

        JSONObject json;
        try {
            json = new JSONObject(result);

        ////CREATE A JSON OBJECT////

        JSONObject data = json.getJSONObject("JSON OBJECT NAME");

        ////GET A STRING////

        String title = data.getString("");

        //Similarly you can get other types of data
        //Replace String to the desired data type like int or boolean etc.

        } catch (JSONException e1) {
            e1.printStackTrace();

        }

        //GETTINGS DATA FROM JSON ARRAY//

        try {

            JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject(result);
            JSONArray postalCodesItems = new JSONArray(
                    jsonObject.getString("postalCodes"));

                JSONObject postalCodesItem = postalCodesItems
                        .getJSONObject(1);

        } catch (Exception e) {
            Log.d("ReadPlacesFeedTask", e.getLocalizedMessage());
        }
    }
}

You can then place a task like this -

new ReadPlacesFeedTask()
    .execute("JSON URL");

How can I generate a 6 digit unique number?

Try this using uniqid and hexdec,

echo hexdec(uniqid());

ImportError: No module named 'pygame'

I ran into the error a few days ago! Thankfully, I found the answer.

You see, the problem is that pygame comes in a .whl (wheel) file/package. So, as a result, you have to pip install it.

Pip installing is a very tricky process, so please be careful. The steps are:-

Step1. Go to C:/Python (whatever version you are using)/Scripts. Scroll down. If you see a file named pip.exe, then that means that you are in the right folder. Copy the path.

Step2. In your computer, search for Environment Variables. You should see an option labeled 'Edit the System Environment Variables'. Click on it.

Step3. There, you should see a dialogue box appear. Click 'Environment Variables'. Click on 'Path'. Then, click 'New'. Paste the path that you copies earlier.

Step4. Click 'Ok'.

Step5. Shift + Right Click wherever your pygame is installed. Select 'Open Command Window Here' from the dropdown menu. Type in 'pip install py' then click tab and the full file name should fill in. Then, press Enter, and you're ready to go! Now you shouldn't get the error again!!!

Resize image with javascript canvas (smoothly)

I don't understand why nobody is suggesting createImageBitmap.

createImageBitmap(
    document.getElementById('image'),
    { resizeWidth: 300, resizeHeight: 234, resizeQuality: 'high' }
)
.then(imageBitmap =>
    document.getElementById('canvas').getContext('2d').drawImage(imageBitmap, 0, 0)
);

works beautifully (assuming you set ids for image and canvas).

need to add a class to an element

You can use result.className = 'red';, but you can also use result.classList.add('red');. The .classList.add(str) way is usually easier if you need to add a class in general, and don't want to check if the class is already in the list of classes.

How to check a channel is closed or not without reading it?

In a hacky way it can be done for channels which one attempts to write to by recovering the raised panic. But you cannot check if a read channel is closed without reading from it.

Either you will

  • eventually read the "true" value from it (v <- c)
  • read the "true" value and 'not closed' indicator (v, ok <- c)
  • read a zero value and the 'closed' indicator (v, ok <- c)
  • will block in the channel read forever (v <- c)

Only the last one technically doesn't read from the channel, but that's of little use.

How can I know if a process is running?

Synchronous solution :

void DisplayProcessStatus(Process process)
{
    process.Refresh();  // Important

    if(process.HasExited)
    {
        Console.WriteLine("Exited.");
    }
    else
    {
        Console.WriteLine("Running.");
    }
}

Asynchronous solution:

void RegisterProcessExit(Process process)
{
    // NOTE there will be a race condition with the caller here
    // how to fix it is left as an exercise
    process.Exited += process_Exited;
}

static void process_Exited(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   Console.WriteLine("Process has exited.");
}

Clean out Eclipse workspace metadata

In some cases, I could prevent Eclipse from crashing during startup by deleting a .snap file in your workspace meta-data (.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.snap).

Setting background images in JFrame

There is no built-in method, but there are several ways to do it. The most straightforward way that I can think of at the moment is:

  1. Create a subclass of JComponent.
  2. Override the paintComponent(Graphics g) method to paint the image that you want to display.
  3. Set the content pane of the JFrame to be this subclass.

Some sample code:

class ImagePanel extends JComponent {
    private Image image;
    public ImagePanel(Image image) {
        this.image = image;
    }
    @Override
    protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
        super.paintComponent(g);
        g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this);
    }
}

// elsewhere
BufferedImage myImage = ImageIO.read(...);
JFrame myJFrame = new JFrame("Image pane");
myJFrame.setContentPane(new ImagePanel(myImage));

Note that this code does not handle resizing the image to fit the JFrame, if that's what you wanted.

Different font size of strings in the same TextView

You can get this done using html string and setting the html to Textview using
txtView.setText(Html.fromHtml("Your html string here"));

For example :

txtView.setText(Html.fromHtml("<html><body><font size=5 color=red>Hello </font> World </body><html>"));`

"implements Runnable" vs "extends Thread" in Java

Moral of the story:

Inherit only if you want to override some behavior.

Or rather it should be read as:

Inherit less, interface more.

Python Save to file

In order to write into a file in Python, we need to open it in write w, append a or exclusive creation x mode.

We need to be careful with the w mode, as it will overwrite into the file if it already exists. Due to this, all the previous data are erased.

Writing a string or sequence of bytes (for binary files) is done using the write() method. This method returns the number of characters written to the file.

with open('Failed.py','w',encoding = 'utf-8') as f:
   f.write("Write what you want to write in\n")
   f.write("this file\n\n")

This program will create a new file named Failed.py in the current directory if it does not exist. If it does exist, it is overwritten.

We must include the newline characters ourselves to distinguish the different lines.

check if a std::vector contains a certain object?

See question: How to find an item in a std::vector?

You'll also need to ensure you've implemented a suitable operator==() for your object, if the default one isn't sufficient for a "deep" equality test.

Remove final character from string

What you are trying to do is an extension of string slicing in Python:

Say all strings are of length 10, last char to be removed:

>>> st[:9]
'abcdefghi'

To remove last N characters:

>>> N = 3
>>> st[:-N]
'abcdefg'

On Duplicate Key Update same as insert

Just in case you are able to utilize a scripting language to prepare your SQL queries, you could reuse field=value pairs by using SET instead of (a,b,c) VALUES(a,b,c).

An example with PHP:

$pairs = "a=$a,b=$b,c=$c";
$query = "INSERT INTO $table SET $pairs ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE $pairs";

Example table:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `tester` (
  `a` int(11) NOT NULL,
  `b` varchar(50) NOT NULL,
  `c` text NOT NULL,
  UNIQUE KEY `a` (`a`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1;

How do I convert an integer to string as part of a PostgreSQL query?

You can cast an integer to a string in this way

intval::text

and so in your case

SELECT * FROM table WHERE <some integer>::text = 'string of numbers'

Calling a function of a module by using its name (a string)

locals()["myfunction"]()

or

globals()["myfunction"]()

locals returns a dictionary with a current local symbol table. globals returns a dictionary with global symbol table.

How to create a secure random AES key in Java?

I would use your suggested code, but with a slight simplification:

KeyGenerator keyGen = KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES");
keyGen.init(256); // for example
SecretKey secretKey = keyGen.generateKey();

Let the provider select how it plans to obtain randomness - don't define something that may not be as good as what the provider has already selected.

This code example assumes (as Maarten points out below) that you've configured your java.security file to include your preferred provider at the top of the list. If you want to manually specify the provider, just call KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES", "providerName");.

For a truly secure key, you need to be using a hardware security module (HSM) to generate and protect the key. HSM manufacturers will typically supply a JCE provider that will do all the key generation for you, using the code above.

Spring Boot application.properties value not populating

public class MyBean {

    private final String prop;

    @Autowired
    public MyBean(@Value("${some.prop}") String prop) {
        this.prop = prop;
        System.out.println("================== " + prop + "================== ");
    }
}

Solution that will work but is less testable and slightly less readable

@Component
public class MyBean {

    @Value("${some.prop}")
    private String prop;

    public MyBean() {

    }

    @PostConstruct
    public void init() {
        System.out.println("================== " + prop + "================== ");
    }
}

Also note that is not Spring Boot specific but applies to any Spring application

How to get screen width and height

Try via context.getResources().getDisplayMetrics() if you have a context available.

Regular vs Context Free Grammars

Regular grammar is either right or left linear, whereas context free grammar is basically any combination of terminals and non-terminals. Hence you can see that regular grammar is a subset of context-free grammar.

So for a palindrome for instance, is of the form,

S->ABA
A->something
B->something

You can clearly see that palindromes cannot be expressed in regular grammar since it needs to be either right or left linear and as such cannot have a non-terminal on both side.

Since regular grammars are non-ambiguous, there is only one production rule for a given non-terminal, whereas there can be more than one in the case of a context-free grammar.

The difference between fork(), vfork(), exec() and clone()

  1. fork() - creates a new child process, which is a complete copy of the parent process. Child and parent processes use different virtual address spaces, which is initially populated by the same memory pages. Then, as both processes are executed, the virtual address spaces begin to differ more and more, because the operating system performs a lazy copying of memory pages that are being written by either of these two processes and assigns an independent copies of the modified pages of memory for each process. This technique is called Copy-On-Write (COW).
  2. vfork() - creates a new child process, which is a "quick" copy of the parent process. In contrast to the system call fork(), child and parent processes share the same virtual address space. NOTE! Using the same virtual address space, both the parent and child use the same stack, the stack pointer and the instruction pointer, as in the case of the classic fork()! To prevent unwanted interference between parent and child, which use the same stack, execution of the parent process is frozen until the child will call either exec() (create a new virtual address space and a transition to a different stack) or _exit() (termination of the process execution). vfork() is the optimization of fork() for "fork-and-exec" model. It can be performed 4-5 times faster than the fork(), because unlike the fork() (even with COW kept in the mind), implementation of vfork() system call does not include the creation of a new address space (the allocation and setting up of new page directories).
  3. clone() - creates a new child process. Various parameters of this system call, specify which parts of the parent process must be copied into the child process and which parts will be shared between them. As a result, this system call can be used to create all kinds of execution entities, starting from threads and finishing by completely independent processes. In fact, clone() system call is the base which is used for the implementation of pthread_create() and all the family of the fork() system calls.
  4. exec() - resets all the memory of the process, loads and parses specified executable binary, sets up new stack and passes control to the entry point of the loaded executable. This system call never return control to the caller and serves for loading of a new program to the already existing process. This system call with fork() system call together form a classical UNIX process management model called "fork-and-exec".

"Integer number too large" error message for 600851475143

The java compiler tries to interpret 600851475143 as a constant value of type int by default. This causes an error since 600851475143 can not be represented with an int.

To tell the compiler that you want the number interpretet as a long you have to add either l or L after it. Your number should then look like this 600851475143L.

Since some Fonts make it hard to distinguish "1" and lower case "l" from each other you should always use the upper case "L".

How to set adaptive learning rate for GradientDescentOptimizer?

From tensorflow official docs

global_step = tf.Variable(0, trainable=False)
starter_learning_rate = 0.1
learning_rate = tf.train.exponential_decay(starter_learning_rate, global_step,
                                       100000, 0.96, staircase=True)

# Passing global_step to minimize() will increment it at each step.
learning_step = (
tf.train.GradientDescentOptimizer(learning_rate)
.minimize(...my loss..., global_step=global_step))

XAMPP installation on Win 8.1 with UAC Warning

I don't know if you are still having this problem, but I had the same problem and had a different fix than what was listed in the other answer. I did install XAMPP under C:\xampp\, and my user is an admin, but there was also something else.

I had to manually go give my user full access to the C:\Users\XAMPP\ directory. By default (at least on my machine) Windows did not give my admin user rights to this new user's directory, but this is where XAMPP stores all of it's config files. Once I gave myself full access to this, everything worked perfectly.

Hope this helps!

UPDATE!

In retrospect, I think that I must have accidentally typed in "C:\Users\XAMPP\" as the install folder during the installation process. So I think the most important thing is to make sure that the user you are actually signed into Windows as when you start XAMPP has full access to the folder that it was actually installed to.

Twitter Bootstrap alert message close and open again

I've tried all the methods and the best way for me is to use the built-in bootstrap classes .fade and .in

Example:

<div class="alert alert-danger fade <?php echo ($show) ? 'in' : '' ?>" role="alert">...</div>

Note: In jQuery, addClass('in') to show the alert, removeClass('in') to hide it.

Fun fact: This works for all elements. Not just alerts.

File path to resource in our war/WEB-INF folder?

There's a couple ways of doing this. As long as the WAR file is expanded (a set of files instead of one .war file), you can use this API:

ServletContext context = getContext();
String fullPath = context.getRealPath("/WEB-INF/test/foo.txt");

http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/servletapi/javax/servlet/ServletContext.html#getRealPath(java.lang.String)

That will get you the full system path to the resource you are looking for. However, that won't work if the Servlet Container never expands the WAR file (like Tomcat). What will work is using the ServletContext's getResource methods.

ServletContext context = getContext();
URL resourceUrl = context.getResource("/WEB-INF/test/foo.txt");

or alternatively if you just want the input stream:

InputStream resourceContent = context.getResourceAsStream("/WEB-INF/test/foo.txt");

http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/servletapi/javax/servlet/ServletContext.html#getResource(java.lang.String)

The latter approach will work no matter what Servlet Container you use and where the application is installed. The former approach will only work if the WAR file is unzipped before deployment.

EDIT: The getContext() method is obviously something you would have to implement. JSP pages make it available as the context field. In a servlet you get it from your ServletConfig which is passed into the servlet's init() method. If you store it at that time, you can get your ServletContext any time you want after that.

Compiling simple Hello World program on OS X via command line

Also, you can use an IDE like CLion (JetBrains) or a text editor like Atom, with the gpp-compiler plugin, works like a charm (F5 to compile & execute).

Gradle - Could not find or load main class

In my build.gradle, I resolved this issue by creating a task and then specifying the "mainClassName" as follows:

task(runSimpleXYZProgram, group: 'algorithms', description: 'Description of what your program does', dependsOn: 'classes', type: JavaExec) {
    mainClassName = 'your.entire.package.classContainingYourMainMethod'
}

How can I convert tabs to spaces in every file of a directory?

One can use vim for that:

find -type f \( -name '*.css' -o -name '*.html' -o -name '*.js' -o -name '*.php' \) -execdir vim -c retab -c wq {} \;

As Carpetsmoker stated, it will retab according to your vim settings. And modelines in the files, if any. Also, it will replace tabs not only at the beginning of the lines. Which is not what you generally want. E.g., you might have literals, containing tabs.

What is mutex and semaphore in Java ? What is the main difference?

A mutex is often known as a binary semaphore. Whilst a semaphore can be created with any non-zero count a mutex is conceptually a semeaphore with an upper count of 1.

Bind service to activity in Android

There is a method called unbindService that will take a ServiceConnection which you will have created upon calling bindService. This will allow you to disconnect from the service while still leaving it running.

This may pose a problem when you connect to it again, since you probably don't know whether it's running or not when you start the activity again, so you'll have to consider that in your activity code.

Good luck!

What is a good Hash Function?

What you're saying here is you want to have one that uses has collision resistance. Try using SHA-2. Or try using a (good) block cipher in a one way compression function (never tried that before), like AES in Miyaguchi-Preenel mode. The problem with that is that you need to:

1) have an IV. Try using the first 256 bits of the fractional parts of Khinchin's constant or something like that. 2) have a padding scheme. Easy. Barrow it from a hash like MD5 or SHA-3 (Keccak [pronounced 'ket-chak']). If you don't care about the security (a few others said this), look at FNV or lookup2 by Bob Jenkins (actually I'm the first one who reccomends lookup2) Also try MurmurHash, it's fast (check this: .16 cpb).

BeautifulSoup getText from between <p>, not picking up subsequent paragraphs

This works well for specific articles where the text is all wrapped in <p> tags. Since the web is an ugly place, it's not always the case.

Often, websites will have text scattered all over, wrapped in different types of tags (e.g. maybe in a <span> or a <div>, or an <li>).

To find all text nodes in the DOM, you can use soup.find_all(text=True).

This is going to return some undesired text, like the contents of <script> and <style> tags. You'll need to filter out the text contents of elements you don't want.

blacklist = [
  'style',
  'script',
  # other elements,
]

text_elements = [t for t in soup.find_all(text=True) if t.parent.name not in blacklist]

If you are working with a known set of tags, you can tag the opposite approach:

whitelist = [
  'p'
]

text_elements = [t for t in soup.find_all(text=True) if t.parent.name in whitelist]

Android button onClickListener

easy:

launching activity (onclick handler)

 Intent myIntent = new Intent(CurrentActivity.this, NextActivity.class);
 myIntent.putExtra("key", value); //Optional parameters
 CurrentActivity.this.startActivity(myIntent);

on the new activity:

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
Intent intent = getIntent();
String value = intent.getStringExtra("key"); //if it's a string you stored.

and add your new activity in the AndroidManifest.xml:

<activity android:label="@string/app_name" android:name="NextActivity"/>

"405 method not allowed" in IIS7.5 for "PUT" method

In my case I had relocated Web Deploy to another port, which was also the IIS port (not 80). I didn't realize at first, but even though there were no errors running both under the same port, seems Web Deploy was most likely responding first instead of IIS for some reason, causing this error. I just moved my IIS binding to another port and all is well. ;)

Taking inputs with BufferedReader in Java

You can't read individual integers in a single line separately using BufferedReader as you do using Scannerclass. Although, you can do something like this in regard to your query :

import java.io.*;
class Test
{
   public static void main(String args[])throws IOException
    {
       BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
       int t=Integer.parseInt(br.readLine());
       for(int i=0;i<t;i++)
       {
         String str=br.readLine();
         String num[]=br.readLine().split(" ");
         int num1=Integer.parseInt(num[0]);
         int num2=Integer.parseInt(num[1]);
         //rest of your code
       }
    }
}

I hope this will help you.

DevTools failed to load SourceMap: Could not load content for chrome-extension

Extensions without enough permission on chrome can cause these warnings, for example for React developer tools, check if the following procedure solves your problem:

  1. Right click on the extension icon.

Or

  1. Go to extensions.
  2. Click the three-dot in the row of React developer tool.

Then choose "this can read and write site data". You should see 3 options in the list, pick one that is strict enough based on how much you trust the extension and also satisfies the extensions's needs.

Is there a "do ... until" in Python?

I prefer to use a looping variable, as it tends to read a bit nicer than just "while 1:", and no ugly-looking break statement:

finished = False
while not finished:
    ... do something...
    finished = evaluate_end_condition()
