Getting the IP Address of a Remote Socket Endpoint

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.sockets.socket.remoteendpoint.aspx

You can then call the IPEndPoint..::.Address method to retrieve the remote IPAddress, and the IPEndPoint..::.Port method to retrieve the remote port number.

More from the link (fixed up alot heh):

Socket s;

IPEndPoint remoteIpEndPoint = s.RemoteEndPoint as IPEndPoint;
IPEndPoint localIpEndPoint = s.LocalEndPoint as IPEndPoint;

if (remoteIpEndPoint != null)
{
    // Using the RemoteEndPoint property.
    Console.WriteLine("I am connected to " + remoteIpEndPoint.Address + "on port number " + remoteIpEndPoint.Port);
}

if (localIpEndPoint != null)
{
    // Using the LocalEndPoint property.
    Console.WriteLine("My local IpAddress is :" + localIpEndPoint.Address + "I am connected on port number " + localIpEndPoint.Port);
}

How do I send a file in Android from a mobile device to server using http?

This can be done with a HTTP Post request to the server:

HttpClient http = AndroidHttpClient.newInstance("MyApp");
HttpPost method = new HttpPost("http://url-to-server");

method.setEntity(new FileEntity(new File("path-to-file"), "application/octet-stream"));

HttpResponse response = http.execute(method);

How to get an Array with jQuery, multiple <input> with the same name

Using map:

var values = $("input[id='task']")
              .map(function(){return $(this).val();}).get();

If you change or remove the id (which should be unique), you may also use the selector $("input[name='task\\[\\]']")

Which language uses .pde extension?

Bad news I'm afraid (or maybe great news?) : it isn't C code, it's an example of "Processing" - an open source language aimed at programming images. Take a look here

Looks very cool.

Button Width Match Parent

This is working for me in a self contained widget.

  Widget signinButton() {
    return ButtonTheme(
      minWidth: double.infinity,
      child: new FlatButton(
        onPressed: () {},
        color: Colors.green[400],
        textColor: Colors.white,
        child: Text('Flat Button'),
      ),
    );
  }

// It can then be used in a class that contains a widget tree.

Draw horizontal rule in React Native

If you have a solid background (like white), this could be your solution:

<View style={container}>
  <View style={styles.hr} />
  <Text style={styles.or}>or</Text>
</View>

const styles = StyleSheet.create({
  container: {
    flex: 0,
    backgroundColor: '#FFFFFF',
    width: '100%',
  },
  hr: {
    position: 'relative',
    top: 11,
    borderBottomColor: '#000000',
    borderBottomWidth: 1,
  },
  or: {
    width: 30,
    fontSize: 14,
    textAlign: 'center',
    alignSelf: 'center',
    backgroundColor: '#FFFFFF',
  },
});

How to override trait function and call it from the overridden function?

Using another trait:

trait ATrait {
    function calc($v) {
        return $v+1;
    }
}

class A {
    use ATrait;
}

trait BTrait {
    function calc($v) {
        $v++;
        return parent::calc($v);
    }
}

class B extends A {
    use BTrait;
}

print (new B())->calc(2); // should print 4

How do I connect to a terminal to a serial-to-USB device on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat)?

You will need to set the permissions every time you plug the converter in. I use PuTTY to connect. In order to do so, I have created a little Bash script to sort out the permissions and launch PuTTY:

#!/bin/bash
sudo chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0

putty

P.S. I would never recommend that permissions are set to 777.

How Should I Declare Foreign Key Relationships Using Code First Entity Framework (4.1) in MVC3?

If you have an Order class, adding a property that references another class in your model, for instance Customer should be enough to let EF know there's a relationship in there:

public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }

    // Some other properties

    // Foreign key to customer
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}

You can always set the FK relation explicitly:

public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }

    // Some other properties

    // Foreign key to customer
    [ForeignKey("Customer")]
    public string CustomerID { get; set; }
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}

The ForeignKeyAttribute constructor takes a string as a parameter: if you place it on a foreign key property it represents the name of the associated navigation property. If you place it on the navigation property it represents the name of the associated foreign key.

What this means is, if you where to place the ForeignKeyAttribute on the Customer property, the attribute would take CustomerID in the constructor:

public string CustomerID { get; set; }
[ForeignKey("CustomerID")]
public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }

EDIT based on Latest Code You get that error because of this line:

[ForeignKey("Parent")]
public Patient Patient { get; set; }

EF will look for a property called Parent to use it as the Foreign Key enforcer. You can do 2 things:

1) Remove the ForeignKeyAttribute and replace it with the RequiredAttribute to mark the relation as required:

[Required]
public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }

Decorating a property with the RequiredAttribute also has a nice side effect: The relation in the database is created with ON DELETE CASCADE.

I would also recommend making the property virtual to enable Lazy Loading.

2) Create a property called Parent that will serve as a Foreign Key. In that case it probably makes more sense to call it for instance ParentID (you'll need to change the name in the ForeignKeyAttribute as well):

public int ParentID { get; set; }

In my experience in this case though it works better to have it the other way around:

[ForeignKey("Patient")]
public int ParentID { get; set; }

public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }

How to find specified name and its value in JSON-string from Java?

I agree that Google's Gson is clear and easy to use. But you should create a result class for getting an instance from JSON string. If you can't clarify the result class, use json-simple:

// import static org.hamcrest.CoreMatchers.is;
// import static org.junit.Assert.assertThat;
// import org.json.simple.JSONObject;
// import org.json.simple.JSONValue;
// import org.junit.Test;

@Test
public void json2Object() {
    // given
    String jsonString = "{\"name\" : \"John\",\"age\" : \"20\","
            + "\"address\" : \"some address\","
            + "\"someobject\" : {\"field\" : \"value\"}}";

    // when
    JSONObject object = (JSONObject) JSONValue.parse(jsonString);

    // then
    @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
    Set<String> keySet = object.keySet();
    for (String key : keySet) {
        Object value = object.get(key);
        System.out.printf("%s=%s (%s)\n", key, value, value.getClass()
                .getSimpleName());
    }

    assertThat(object.get("age").toString(), is("20"));
}

Pros and cons of Gson and json-simple is pretty much like pros and cons of user-defined Java Object and Map. The object you define is clear for all fields (name and type), but less flexible than Map.

Return HTML from ASP.NET Web API

Starting with AspNetCore 2.0, it's recommended to use ContentResult instead of the Produce attribute in this case. See: https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc/issues/6657#issuecomment-322586885

This doesn't rely on serialization nor on content negotiation.

[HttpGet]
public ContentResult Index() {
    return new ContentResult {
        ContentType = "text/html",
        StatusCode = (int)HttpStatusCode.OK,
        Content = "<html><body>Hello World</body></html>"
    };
}

How to center icon and text in a android button with width set to "fill parent"

If you use one of custom view's solutions, be careful, because they often fail on long or multiline text. I rewrote some answers, replaced onDraw() and understood that that was a wrong way.

C# MessageBox dialog result

This answer was not working for me so I went on to MSDN. There I found that now the code should look like this:

//var is of MessageBoxResult type
var result = MessageBox.Show(message, caption,
                             MessageBoxButtons.YesNo,
                             MessageBoxIcon.Question);

// If the no button was pressed ...
if (result == DialogResult.No)
{
    ...
}

Hope it helps

Conditional formatting using AND() function

Same issues as others reported - using Excel 2016. Found that when applying conditional formulas against tables; AND, multiplying the conditions, and adding the conditions failed. Had to create the TRUE/FALSE logic myself:

How can I match a string with a regex in Bash?

A Function To Do This

extract () {
  if [ -f $1 ] ; then
      case $1 in
          *.tar.bz2)   tar xvjf $1    ;;
          *.tar.gz)    tar xvzf $1    ;;
          *.bz2)       bunzip2 $1     ;;
          *.rar)       rar x $1       ;;
          *.gz)        gunzip $1      ;;
          *.tar)       tar xvf $1     ;;
          *.tbz2)      tar xvjf $1    ;;
          *.tgz)       tar xvzf $1    ;;
          *.zip)       unzip $1       ;;
          *.Z)         uncompress $1  ;;
          *.7z)        7z x $1        ;;
          *)           echo "don't know '$1'..." ;;
      esac
  else
      echo "'$1' is not a valid file!"
  fi
}

Other Note

In response to Aquarius Power in the comment above, We need to store the regex on a var

The variable BASH_REMATCH is set after you match the expression, and ${BASH_REMATCH[n]} will match the nth group wrapped in parentheses ie in the following ${BASH_REMATCH[1]} = "compressed" and ${BASH_REMATCH[2]} = ".gz"

if [[ "compressed.gz" =~ ^(.*)(\.[a-z]{1,5})$ ]];
then
  echo ${BASH_REMATCH[2]} ;
else
  echo "Not proper format";
fi

(The regex above isn't meant to be a valid one for file naming and extensions, but it works for the example)

Using $_POST to get select option value from HTML

Depends on if the form that the select is contained in has the method set to "get" or "post".

If <form method="get"> then the value of the select will be located in the super global array $_GET['taskOption'].

If <form method="post"> then the value of the select will be located in the super global array $_POST['taskOption'].

To store it into a variable you would:

$option = $_POST['taskOption']

A good place for more information would be the PHP manual: http://php.net/manual/en/tutorial.forms.php

jquery's append not working with svg element?

When you pass a markup string into $, it's parsed as HTML using the browser's innerHTML property on a <div> (or other suitable container for special cases like <tr>). innerHTML can't parse SVG or other non-HTML content, and even if it could it wouldn't be able to tell that <circle> was supposed to be in the SVG namespace.

innerHTML is not available on SVGElement—it is a property of HTMLElement only. Neither is there currently an innerSVG property or other way(*) to parse content into an SVGElement. For this reason you should use DOM-style methods. jQuery doesn't give you easy access to the namespaced methods needed to create SVG elements. Really jQuery isn't designed for use with SVG at all and many operations may fail.

HTML5 promises to let you use <svg> without an xmlns inside a plain HTML (text/html) document in the future. But this is just a parser hack(**), the SVG content will still be SVGElements in the SVG namespace, and not HTMLElements, so you'll not be able to use innerHTML even though they look like part of an HTML document.

However, for today's browsers you must use XHTML (properly served as application/xhtml+xml; save with the .xhtml file extension for local testing) to get SVG to work at all. (It kind of makes sense to anyway; SVG is a properly XML-based standard.) This means you'd have to escape the < symbols inside your script block (or enclose in a CDATA section), and include the XHTML xmlns declaration. example:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head>
</head><body>
    <svg id="s" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"/>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        function makeSVG(tag, attrs) {
            var el= document.createElementNS('http://www.w3.org/2000/svg', tag);
            for (var k in attrs)
                el.setAttribute(k, attrs[k]);
            return el;
        }

        var circle= makeSVG('circle', {cx: 100, cy: 50, r:40, stroke: 'black', 'stroke-width': 2, fill: 'red'});
        document.getElementById('s').appendChild(circle);
        circle.onmousedown= function() {
            alert('hello');
        };
    </script>
</body></html>

*: well, there's DOM Level 3 LS's parseWithContext, but browser support is very poor. Edit to add: however, whilst you can't inject markup into an SVGElement, you could inject a new SVGElement into an HTMLElement using innerHTML, then transfer it to the desired target. It'll likely be a bit slower though:

<script type="text/javascript"><![CDATA[
    function parseSVG(s) {
        var div= document.createElementNS('http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml', 'div');
        div.innerHTML= '<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">'+s+'</svg>';
        var frag= document.createDocumentFragment();
        while (div.firstChild.firstChild)
            frag.appendChild(div.firstChild.firstChild);
        return frag;
    }

    document.getElementById('s').appendChild(parseSVG(
        '<circle cx="100" cy="50" r="40" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" fill="red" onmousedown="alert(\'hello\');"/>'
    ));
]]></script>

**: I hate the way the authors of HTML5 seem to be scared of XML and determined to shoehorn XML-based features into the crufty mess that is HTML. XHTML solved these problems years ago.

ITextSharp insert text to an existing pdf

I found a way to do it (dont know if it is the best but it works)

string oldFile = "oldFile.pdf";
string newFile = "newFile.pdf";

// open the reader
PdfReader reader = new PdfReader(oldFile);
Rectangle size = reader.GetPageSizeWithRotation(1);
Document document = new Document(size);

// open the writer
FileStream fs = new FileStream(newFile, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write);
PdfWriter writer = PdfWriter.GetInstance(document, fs);
document.Open();

// the pdf content
PdfContentByte cb = writer.DirectContent;

// select the font properties
BaseFont bf = BaseFont.CreateFont(BaseFont.HELVETICA, BaseFont.CP1252,BaseFont.NOT_EMBEDDED);
cb.SetColorFill(BaseColor.DARK_GRAY);
cb.SetFontAndSize(bf, 8);

// write the text in the pdf content
cb.BeginText();
string text = "Some random blablablabla...";
// put the alignment and coordinates here
cb.ShowTextAligned(1, text, 520, 640, 0);
cb.EndText();
cb.BeginText();
text = "Other random blabla...";
// put the alignment and coordinates here
cb.ShowTextAligned(2, text, 100, 200, 0);
cb.EndText();

// create the new page and add it to the pdf
PdfImportedPage page = writer.GetImportedPage(reader, 1);
cb.AddTemplate(page, 0, 0);

// close the streams and voilá the file should be changed :)
document.Close();
fs.Close();
writer.Close();
reader.Close();

I hope this can be usefull for someone =) (and post here any errors)

How to undo a git pull?

From https://git-scm.com/docs/git-reset#Documentation/git-reset.txt-Undoamergeorpullinsideadirtyworkingtree

Undo a merge or pull inside a dirty working tree

$ git pull           (1)
Auto-merging nitfol
Merge made by recursive.
 nitfol               |   20 +++++----
 ...
$ git reset --merge ORIG_HEAD      (2)

Even if you may have local modifications in your working tree, you can safely say git pull when you know that the change in the other branch does not overlap with them.

After inspecting the result of the merge, you may find that the change in the other branch is unsatisfactory. Running git reset --hard ORIG_HEAD will let you go back to where you were, but it will discard your local changes, which you do not want. git reset --merge keeps your local changes.

Python function as a function argument?

Sure, that is why python implements the following methods where the first parameter is a function:

  • map(function, iterable, ...) - Apply function to every item of iterable and return a list of the results.
  • filter(function, iterable) - Construct a list from those elements of iterable for which function returns true.
  • reduce(function, iterable[,initializer]) - Apply function of two arguments cumulatively to the items of iterable, from left to right, so as to reduce the iterable to a single value.
  • lambdas

Executing Shell Scripts from the OS X Dock?

On OSX Mavericks:

  1. Create your shell script.
  2. Make your shell script executable:

    chmod +x your-shell-script.sh

  3. Rename your script to have a .app suffix:

    mv your-shell-script.sh your-shell-script.app

  4. Drag the script to the OSX dock.
  5. Rename your script back to a .sh suffix:

    mv your-shell-script.app your-shell-script.sh

  6. Right-click the file in Finder, and click the "Get Info" option.
  7. At the bottom of the window, set the shell script to open with the terminal.

Now when you click on the script in the dock, A terminal window will pop up and execute your script.

Bonus: To get the terminal to close when your script has completed, add exit 0 to the end and change the terminal settings to "close the shell if exited cleanly" like it says to do in this SO answer.

Is it possible to get all arguments of a function as single object inside that function?

You can also convert it to an array if you prefer. If Array generics are available:

var args = Array.slice(arguments)

Otherwise:

var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);

from Mozilla MDN:

You should not slice on arguments because it prevents optimizations in JavaScript engines (V8 for example).

What is trunk, branch and tag in Subversion?

The answer by David Schmitt sums things up very well, but I think it is important to note that, to SVN, the terms 'branch', 'tag', and 'trunk' don't mean anything. These terms are purely semantic and only affect the way we, as users of the system, treat those directories. One could easily name them 'main', 'test', and 'releases.'; As long as everyone using the system understands how to use each section properly, it really doesn't matter what they're called.

How can I load webpage content into a div on page load?

How to get the fields in an Object via reflection?

Here's a quick and dirty method that does what you want in a generic way. You'll need to add exception handling and you'll probably want to cache the BeanInfo types in a weakhashmap.

public Map<String, Object> getNonNullProperties(final Object thingy) {
    final Map<String, Object> nonNullProperties = new TreeMap<String, Object>();
    try {
        final BeanInfo beanInfo = Introspector.getBeanInfo(thingy
                .getClass());
        for (final PropertyDescriptor descriptor : beanInfo
                .getPropertyDescriptors()) {
            try {
                final Object propertyValue = descriptor.getReadMethod()
                        .invoke(thingy);
                if (propertyValue != null) {
                    nonNullProperties.put(descriptor.getName(),
                            propertyValue);
                }
            } catch (final IllegalArgumentException e) {
                // handle this please
            } catch (final IllegalAccessException e) {
                // and this also
            } catch (final InvocationTargetException e) {
                // and this, too
            }
        }
    } catch (final IntrospectionException e) {
        // do something sensible here
    }
    return nonNullProperties;
}

See these references:

Accessing value inside nested dictionaries

No, those are nested dictionaries, so that is the only real way (you could use get() but it's the same thing in essence). However, there is an alternative. Instead of having nested dictionaries, you can use a tuple as a key instead:

tempDict = {("ONE", "TWO", "THREE"): 10}
tempDict["ONE", "TWO", "THREE"]

This does have a disadvantage, there is no (easy and fast) way of getting all of the elements of "TWO" for example, but if that doesn't matter, this could be a good solution.

ServerAliveInterval 60

Launch Failed. Binary not found. CDT on Eclipse Helios

I had this problem for a long while and I couldn't figure out the answer. I had added all the paths, built everything and pretty much followed what everyone on here had suggested, but no luck.

Finally I read the comments and saw that there were some compilation errors that were aborting the procedure before the binaries and exe file was generated.

Bottom line: Do a code review and make sure that there are no errors in your code because sometimes eclipse will not always catch everything.

If you can run a basic hello world but not your code then obviously something is wrong with your code. I learned the hard way.

How to re-render flatlist?

Use the extraData property on your FlatList component.

As the documentation states:

By passing extraData={this.state} to FlatList we make sure FlatList will re-render itself when the state.selected changes. Without setting this prop, FlatList would not know it needs to re-render any items because it is also a PureComponent and the prop comparison will not show any changes.

How to set the width of a RaisedButton in Flutter?

In my case I used margin to be able to change the size:

Container(

     margin: EdgeInsets.all(10),

    // or margin: EdgeInsets.only(left:10, right:10),

        child: RaisedButton(
          padding: EdgeInsets.all(10),

          shape: RoundedRectangleBorder(borderRadius:
BorderRadius.circular(20)),
          onPressed: () {},
          child: Text("Button"),
        ),
      ),

What REALLY happens when you don't free after malloc?

You are correct, memory is automatically freed when the process exits. Some people strive not to do extensive cleanup when the process is terminated, since it will all be relinquished to the operating system. However, while your program is running you should free unused memory. If you don't, you may eventually run out or cause excessive paging if your working set gets too big.

What is going wrong when Visual Studio tells me "xcopy exited with code 4"

As other answers explain, exit code 4 may have many causes.

I noticed a case, where resulting path names exceeded the maximum allowed length (just like here).

I have replaced xcopy by robocopy for the affected post build event; robocopy seems to handle paths slightly different and was able to complete the copy task that xcopy was unable to handle.

How to check whether a variable is a class or not?

Return True if X is class and False if not.

How to pass parameters to the DbContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand method?

Simplified version for Oracle. If you don't want to create OracleParameter

var sql = "Update [User] SET FirstName = :p0 WHERE Id = :p1";
context.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand(sql, firstName, id);

What's the difference between Apache's Mesos and Google's Kubernetes

Mesos and Kubernetes can both be used to manage a cluster of machines and abstract away the hardware.

Mesos, by design, doesn't provide you with a scheduler (to decide where and when to run processes and what to do if the process fails), you can use something like Marathon or Chronos, or write your own.

Kubernetes will do scheduling for you out of the box, and can be used as a scheduler for Mesos (please correct me if I'm wrong here!) which is where you can use them together. Mesos can have multiple schedulers sharing the same cluster, so in theory you could run kubernetes and chronos together on the same hardware.

Super simplistically: if you want control over how your containers are scheduled, go for Mesos, otherwise Kubernetes rocks.

How to symbolicate crash log Xcode?

Apple gives you crash log in .txt format , which is unsymbolicated

**

With the device connected

**

  • Download ".txt" file , change extension to ".crash" enter image description here
    • Open devices and simulators from window tab in Xcode
    • select device and select device logs
    • drag and drop .crash file to the device log window

enter image description here

We will be able to see symbolicated crash logs over there

Please see the link for more details on Symbolicating Crash logs

Jenkins fails when running "service start jenkins"

Before you install Jenkins you should install JDK:

systemctl status jenkins.service

Rename MySQL database

First backup the old database called HRMS and edit the script file with replace the word HRMS to SUNHRM. After this step import the database file to the mysql

ssh script returns 255 error

SSH Very critical issue on Production. SSH-debug1: Exit status 255

I was working with Live Server and lots stuff stuck. I try many things to fix but exact issue of 255 don't figure out.

Even I had resolved issue 100%

Replace my sshd_config file from similar other my debian server

[email protected]:~# cp sshd_config sshd_config.snippetbucket.com.bkp #keep my backup file

[email protected]:~# echo "" > sshd_config

[email protected]:~# nano sshd_config #replaced all content with other exact same server

[email protected]:~# sudo service ssh restart #normally restart server

That's 100% resolve my issue immediate.

#SnippetBucket-Tip: Always take backup of ssh related files, which help on quick restoration.

Note: After apply given changes you need to exit rescue mode and reboot your vps / dedicated server normally, than your ssh connection works.

During rescue mode ssh don't allow user to login as normally. only rescue ssh related login and password works.

how to check if string contains '+' character

You need this instead:

if(s.contains("+"))

contains() method of String class does not take regular expression as a parameter, it takes normal text.

EDIT:

String s = "ddjdjdj+kfkfkf";

if(s.contains("+"))
{
    String parts[] = s.split("\\+");
    System.out.print(parts[0]);
}

OUTPUT:

ddjdjdj

Serial Port (RS -232) Connection in C++

Please take a look here:

1) You can use this with Windows (incl. MinGW) as well as Linux. Alternative you can only use the code as an example.

2) Step-by-step tutorial how to use serial ports on windows

3) You can use this literally on MinGW

Here's some very, very simple code (without any error handling or settings):

#include <windows.h>

/* ... */

// Open serial port
HANDLE serialHandle;

serialHandle = CreateFile("\\\\.\\COM1", GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, 0, 0, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0);

// Do some basic settings
DCB serialParams = { 0 };
serialParams.DCBlength = sizeof(serialParams);

GetCommState(serialHandle, &serialParams);
serialParams.BaudRate = baudrate;
serialParams.ByteSize = byteSize;
serialParams.StopBits = stopBits;
serialParams.Parity = parity;
SetCommState(serialHandle, &serialParams);

// Set timeouts
COMMTIMEOUTS timeout = { 0 };
timeout.ReadIntervalTimeout = 50;
timeout.ReadTotalTimeoutConstant = 50;
timeout.ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 50;
timeout.WriteTotalTimeoutConstant = 50;
timeout.WriteTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 10;

SetCommTimeouts(serialHandle, &timeout);

Now you can use WriteFile() / ReadFile() to write / read bytes. Don't forget to close your connection:

CloseHandle(serialHandle);

VBA Macro to compare all cells of two Excel files

Do NOT loop through all cells!! There is a lot of overhead in communications between worksheets and VBA, for both reading and writing. Looping through all cells will be agonizingly slow. I'm talking hours.

Instead, load an entire sheet at once into a Variant array. In Excel 2003, this takes about 2 seconds (and 250 MB of RAM). Then you can loop through it in no time at all.

In Excel 2007 and later, sheets are about 1000 times larger (1048576 rows × 16384 columns = 17 billion cells, compared to 65536 rows × 256 columns = 17 million in Excel 2003). You will run into an "Out of memory" error if you try to load the whole sheet into a Variant; on my machine I can only load 32 million cells at once. So you have to limit yourself to the range you know has actual data in it, or load the sheet bit by bit, e.g. 30 columns at a time.

Option Explicit

Sub test()

    Dim varSheetA As Variant
    Dim varSheetB As Variant
    Dim strRangeToCheck As String
    Dim iRow As Long
    Dim iCol As Long

    strRangeToCheck = "A1:IV65536"
    ' If you know the data will only be in a smaller range, reduce the size of the ranges above.
    Debug.Print Now
    varSheetA = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range(strRangeToCheck)
    varSheetB = Worksheets("Sheet2").Range(strRangeToCheck) ' or whatever your other sheet is.
    Debug.Print Now

    For iRow = LBound(varSheetA, 1) To UBound(varSheetA, 1)
        For iCol = LBound(varSheetA, 2) To UBound(varSheetA, 2)
            If varSheetA(iRow, iCol) = varSheetB(iRow, iCol) Then
                ' Cells are identical.
                ' Do nothing.
            Else
                ' Cells are different.
                ' Code goes here for whatever it is you want to do.
            End If
        Next iCol
    Next iRow

End Sub

To compare to a sheet in a different workbook, open that workbook and get the sheet as follows:

Set wbkA = Workbooks.Open(filename:="C:\MyBook.xls")
Set varSheetA = wbkA.Worksheets("Sheet1") ' or whatever sheet you need

Is there a method for String conversion to Title Case?

The simplest way of converting any string into a title case, is to use googles package org.apache.commons.lang.WordUtils

System.out.println(WordUtils.capitalizeFully("tHis will BE MY EXAMple"));

Will result this

This Will Be My Example

I'm not sure why its named "capitalizeFully", where in fact the function is not doing a full capital result, but anyways, thats the tool that we need.

Combining two sorted lists in Python

def compareDate(obj1, obj2):
    if obj1.getDate() < obj2.getDate():
        return -1
    elif obj1.getDate() > obj2.getDate():
        return 1
    else:
        return 0

list = list1 + list2
list.sort(compareDate)

Will sort the list in place. Define your own function for comparing two objects, and pass that function into the built in sort function.

Do NOT use bubble sort, it has horrible performance.

Get the date (a day before current time) in Bash

You could do a simple calculation, pimped with an regex, if the chosen date format is 'YYYYMM':

echo $(($(date +"%Y%m") - 1)) | sed -e 's/99$/12/'

In January of 2020 it will return 201912 ;-) But, it's only a workaround, when date does not have calculation options and other dateinterpreter options (e.g. using perl) not available ;-)

Using SQL LOADER in Oracle to import CSV file

Try this

load data infile 'datafile location' into table schema.tablename fields terminated by ',' optionally enclosed by '|' (field1,field2,field3....)

In command prompt:

sqlldr system@databasename/password control='control file location'

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly

I found a different solution to this issue. Apparently my IIS 7 did not have 32bit mode enabled in my Application Pool by default.

To enable 32bit mode, open IIS and select your Application Pool. Mine was named "ASP.NET v4.0".
Right click, go to "Advanced Settings" and change the section named: "Enabled 32-bit Applications" to true.

Restart your web server and try again.

I found the fix from this blog reference: http://darrell.mozingo.net/2009/01/17/running-iis-7-in-32-bit-mode/

Additionally, you can change the settings on Visual Studio. In my case, I went to Tools > Options > Projects and Solutions > Web Projects and checked Use the 64 bit version of IIS Express for web sites and projects - This was on VS Pro 2015. Nothing else fixed it but this.

How to blur background images in Android

This might be a very late reply but I hope it helps someone.

  1. You can use third party libs such as RenderScript/Blurry/etc.
  2. If you do not want to use any third party libs, you can do the below using alpha(setting alpha to 0 means complete blur and 1 means same as existing).

Note(If you are using point 2) : While setting alpha to the background, it will blur the whole layout. To avoid this, create a new xml containing drawable and set alpha here to 0.5 (or value of your wish) and use this drawable name (name of file) as the background.

For example, use it as below (say file name is bgndblur.xml):

<bitmap xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:shape="rectangle"
android:src="@drawable/registerscreenbackground"
android:alpha="0.5">

Use the below in your layout :

<....
 android:background="@drawable/bgndblur">

Hope this helped.

Error: 'int' object is not subscriptable - Python

You need to convert age1 into int first, so it can do the minus. After that turn the result back to string for display:

name1 = raw_input("What's your name? ")

How can I get the source code of a Python function?

If you're strictly defining the function yourself and it's a relatively short definition, a solution without dependencies would be to define the function in a string and assign the eval() of the expression to your function.

E.g.

funcstring = 'lambda x: x> 5'
func = eval(funcstring)

then optionally to attach the original code to the function:

func.source = funcstring

Get Current date in epoch from Unix shell script

Depending on the language you're using it's going to be something simple like

CInt(CDate("1970-1-1") - CDate(Today()))

Ironically enough, yesterday was day 40,000 if you use 1/1/1900 as "day zero" like many computer systems use.

BAT file to map to network drive without running as admin

This .vbs code creates a .bat file with the current mapped network drives. Then, just put the created file into the machine which you want to re-create the mappings and double-click it. It will try to create all mappings using the same drive letters (errors can occur if any letter is in use). This method also can be used as a backup of the current mappings. Save the code bellow as a .vbs file (e.g. Mappings.vbs) and double-click it.

Google Chrome Printing Page Breaks

Actually one detail is missing from the answer that is selected as accepted (from Phil Ross)....

it DOES work in Chrome, and the solution is really silly!!

Both the parent and the element onto which you want to control page-breaking must be declared as:

position: relative

check out this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/petersphilo/QCvA5/5/show/

This is true for:

page-break-before
page-break-after
page-break-inside

However, controlling page-break-inside in Safari does not work (in 5.1.7, at least)

i hope this helps!!!

PS: The question below brought up that fact that recent versions of Chrome no longer respect this, even with the position: relative; trick. However, they do seem to respect:

-webkit-region-break-inside: avoid;

see this fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/petersphilo/QCvA5/23/show

so i guess we have to add that now...

Hope this helps!

How to initialize a list with constructor?

You can initialize it just like any list:

public List<ContactNumber> ContactNumbers { get; set; }

public Human(int id)
{
    Id = id;
    ContactNumbers = new List<ContactNumber>();
}

public Human(int id, string address, string name) :this(id)
{
    Address = address;
    Name = name;
    // no need to initialize the list here since you're
    // already calling the single parameter constructor
}

However, I would even go a step further and make the setter private since you often don't need to set the list, but just access/modify its contents:

public List<ContactNumber> ContactNumbers { get; private set; }

Non-resolvable parent POM using Maven 3.0.3 and relativePath notation

'parent.relativePath' points at wrong local POM @ myGroup:myParentArtifactId:1.0, C:\myProjectDir\parent\pom.xml

This indicates that maven did search locally for the parent pom, but found that it was not the correct pom.

  • Does pom.xml of parentpom correctly define the parent pom as the pom.xml of rootpom?
  • Does rootpom folder contain pom.xml as well as the paretpom folder?

Removing space from dataframe columns in pandas

  • To remove white spaces:

1) To remove white space everywhere:

df.columns = df.columns.str.replace(' ', '')

2) To remove white space at the beginning of string:

df.columns = df.columns.str.lstrip()

3) To remove white space at the end of string:

df.columns = df.columns.str.rstrip()

4) To remove white space at both ends:

df.columns = df.columns.str.strip()
  • To replace white spaces with other characters (underscore for instance):

5) To replace white space everywhere

df.columns = df.columns.str.replace(' ', '_')

6) To replace white space at the beginning:

df.columns = df.columns.str.replace('^ +', '_')

7) To replace white space at the end:

df.columns = df.columns.str.replace(' +$', '_')

8) To replace white space at both ends:

df.columns = df.columns.str.replace('^ +| +$', '_')

All above applies to a specific column as well, assume you have a column named col, then just do:

df[col] = df[col].str.strip()  # or .replace as above

Here is an indented version of the CSS so you can understand better. Note that this does not work, you need to use the single liner SVG from the snippet above instead:

Not sure how portable this is (works on Firefox 31 and Chrome 36), and it is technically an image... but the source is inline and plain text, and it scales infinitely.

@senectus found that it works better on IE if you base64 encode it: https://stackoverflow.com/a/25593531/895245

Getting the index of the returned max or min item using max()/min() on a list

I was also interested in this and compared some of the suggested solutions using perfplot (a pet project of mine).

Turns out that numpy's argmin,

numpy.argmin(x)

is the fastest method for large enough lists, even with the implicit conversion from the input list to a numpy.array.

enter image description here

Code for generating the plot:

import numpy
import operator
import perfplot

def min_enumerate(a):
    return min(enumerate(a), key=lambda x: x[1])[0]

def min_enumerate_itemgetter(a):
    min_index, min_value = min(enumerate(a), key=operator.itemgetter(1))
    return min_index

def getitem(a):
    return min(range(len(a)), key=a.__getitem__)

def np_argmin(a):
    return numpy.argmin(a)

perfplot.show(
    setup=lambda n: numpy.random.rand(n).tolist(),
    kernels=[
        min_enumerate,
        min_enumerate_itemgetter,
        getitem,
        np_argmin,
        ],
    n_range=[2**k for k in range(15)],
    logx=True,
    logy=True,
    )

How to expand and compute log(a + b)?

In general, one doesn't expand out log(a + b); you just deal with it as is. That said, there are occasionally circumstances where it makes sense to use the following identity:

log(a + b) = log(a * (1 + b/a)) = log a + log(1 + b/a)

(In fact, this identity is often used when implementing log in math libraries).

Oracle : how to subtract two dates and get minutes of the result

For those who want to substrat two timestamps (instead of dates), there is a similar solution:

SELECT ( CAST( date2 AS DATE ) - CAST( date1 AS DATE ) ) * 1440 AS minutesInBetween
FROM ...

or

SELECT ( CAST( date2 AS DATE ) - CAST( date1 AS DATE ) ) * 86400 AS secondsInBetween

How do I read an image file using Python?

The word "read" is vague, but here is an example which reads a jpeg file using the Image class, and prints information about it.

from PIL import Image
jpgfile = Image.open("picture.jpg")

print(jpgfile.bits, jpgfile.size, jpgfile.format)

Comparing two arrays & get the values which are not common

Try:

$a1=@(1,2,3,4,5)
$b1=@(1,2,3,4,5,6)
(Compare-Object $a1 $b1).InputObject

Or, you can use:

(Compare-Object $b1 $a1).InputObject

The order doesn't matter.

use Lodash to sort array of object by value

You can use lodash sortBy (https://lodash.com/docs/4.17.4#sortBy).

Your code could be like:

const myArray = [
   {
      "id":25,
      "name":"Anakin Skywalker",
      "createdAt":"2017-04-12T12:48:55.000Z",
      "updatedAt":"2017-04-12T12:48:55.000Z"
   },
   {
      "id":1,
      "name":"Luke Skywalker",
      "createdAt":"2017-04-12T11:25:03.000Z",
      "updatedAt":"2017-04-12T11:25:03.000Z"
   }
]

const myOrderedArray = _.sortBy(myArray, o => o.name)

How to get diff between all files inside 2 folders that are on the web?

Once you have the source trees, e.g.

diff -ENwbur repos1/ repos2/

Even better

diff -ENwbur repos1/ repos2/  | kompare -o -

and have a crack at it in a good gui tool :)

  • -Ewb ignore the bulk of whitespace changes
  • -N detect new files
  • -u unified
  • -r recurse

Facebook login message: "URL Blocked: This redirect failed because the redirect URI is not whitelisted in the app’s Client OAuth Settings."

In my case, I was integrating Facebook login within a Rails app tutorial. I had added http://localhost:3000/adsf to my Valid OAuth Redirect URIs, but the Rails app would open the url as http://0.0.0.0:3000 and would therefore try to redirect to http://0.0.0.0:3000/asdf. After adding http://0.0.0.0:3000/asdf to the Valid OAuth Redirect URIs, or navigating to http://localhost:3000/asdf, it worked as expected.

Converting list to *args when calling function

*args just means that the function takes a number of arguments, generally of the same type.

Why is "forEach not a function" for this object?

Object does not have forEach, it belongs to Array prototype. If you want to iterate through each key-value pair in the object and take the values. You can do this:

Object.keys(a).forEach(function (key){
    console.log(a[key]);
});

Usage note: For an object v = {"cat":"large", "dog": "small", "bird": "tiny"};, Object.keys(v) gives you an array of the keys so you get ["cat","dog","bird"]

How to get element by classname or id

You don't have to add a . in getElementsByClassName, i.e.

var multibutton = angular.element(element.getElementsByClassName("multi-files"));

However, when using angular.element, you do have to use jquery style selectors:

angular.element('.multi-files');

should do the trick.

Also, from this documentation "If jQuery is available, angular.element is an alias for the jQuery function. If jQuery is not available, angular.element delegates to Angular's built-in subset of jQuery, called "jQuery lite" or "jqLite.""

Passing multiple variables to another page in url

Short answer:

This is what you are trying to do but it poses some security and encoding problems so don't do it.

$url = "http://localhost/main.php?email=" . $email_address . "&eventid=" . $event_id;

Long answer:

All variables in querystrings need to be urlencoded to ensure proper transmission. You should never pass a user's personal information in a url because urls are very leaky. Urls end up in log files, browsing histories, referal headers, etc. The list goes on and on.

As for proper url encoding, it can be achieved using either urlencode() or http_build_query(). Either one of these should work:

$url = "http://localhost/main.php?email=" . urlencode($email_address) . "&eventid=" . urlencode($event_id);

or

$vars = array('email' => $email_address, 'event_id' => $event_id);
$querystring = http_build_query($vars);
$url = "http://localhost/main.php?" . $querystring;

Additionally, if $event_id is in your session, you don't actually need to pass it around in order to access it from different pages. Just call session_start() and it should be available.

How to fix the datetime2 out-of-range conversion error using DbContext and SetInitializer?

Based on user @andygjp's answer, its better if you override the base Db.SaveChanges() method and add a function to override any date which does not fall between SqlDateTime.MinValue and SqlDateTime.MaxValue.

Here is the sample code

public class MyDb : DbContext
{
    public override int SaveChanges()
    {
        UpdateDates();
        return base.SaveChanges();
    }

    private void UpdateDates()
    {
        foreach (var change in ChangeTracker.Entries().Where(x => (x.State == EntityState.Added || x.State == EntityState.Modified)))
        {
            var values = change.CurrentValues;
            foreach (var name in values.PropertyNames)
            {
                var value = values[name];
                if (value is DateTime)
                {
                    var date = (DateTime)value;
                    if (date < SqlDateTime.MinValue.Value)
                    {
                        values[name] = SqlDateTime.MinValue.Value;
                    }
                    else if (date > SqlDateTime.MaxValue.Value)
                    {
                        values[name] = SqlDateTime.MaxValue.Value;
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

How to declare a constant map in Golang?

You can create constants in many different ways:

const myString = "hello"
const pi = 3.14 // untyped constant
const life int = 42 // typed constant (can use only with ints)

You can also create a enum constant:

const (
   First = 1
   Second = 2
   Third = 4
)

You can not create constants of maps, arrays and it is written in effective go:

Constants in Go are just that—constant. They are created at compile time, even when defined as locals in functions, and can only be numbers, characters (runes), strings or booleans. Because of the compile-time restriction, the expressions that define them must be constant expressions, evaluatable by the compiler. For instance, 1<<3 is a constant expression, while math.Sin(math.Pi/4) is not because the function call to math.Sin needs to happen at run time.

How to get the path of the batch script in Windows?

%~dp0 will be the directory. Here's some documentation on all of the path modifiers. Fun stuff :-)

To remove the final backslash, you can use the :n,m substring syntax, like so:

SET mypath=%~dp0
echo %mypath:~0,-1%

I don't believe there's a way to combine the %0 syntax with the :~n,m syntax, unfortunately.

Auto code completion on Eclipse

Its simple these are the steps: 1. first go to the following settings Window -> Preferences -> Java -> Editor -> content assist -> advanced 2. there will be two boxes having checkboxes. 3. check everthing in there and click apply. 4. now ofcourse when you'll be coding there will be auto code completion feature automatically.

Sending mail from Python using SMTP

The script I use is quite similar; I post it here as an example of how to use the email.* modules to generate MIME messages; so this script can be easily modified to attach pictures, etc.

I rely on my ISP to add the date time header.

My ISP requires me to use a secure smtp connection to send mail, I rely on the smtplib module (downloadable at http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~db2501/ssmtplib.py)

As in your script, the username and password, (given dummy values below), used to authenticate on the SMTP server, are in plain text in the source. This is a security weakness; but the best alternative depends on how careful you need (want?) to be about protecting these.

What's the Use of '\r' escape sequence?

\r is a carriage return character; it tells your terminal emulator to move the cursor at the start of the line.

The cursor is the position where the next characters will be rendered.

So, printing a \r allows to override the current line of the terminal emulator.

Tom Zych figured why the output of your program is o world while the \r is at the end of the line and you don't print anything after that:

When your program exits, the shell prints the command prompt. The terminal renders it where you left the cursor. Your program leaves the cursor at the start of the line, so the command prompt partly overrides the line you printed. This explains why you seen your command prompt followed by o world.

The online compiler you mention just prints the raw output to the browser. The browser ignores control characters, so the \r has no effect.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carriage_return

Here is a usage example of \r:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>

int main()
{
        char chars[] = {'-', '\\', '|', '/'};
        unsigned int i;

        for (i = 0; ; ++i) {
                printf("%c\r", chars[i % sizeof(chars)]);
                fflush(stdout);
                usleep(200000);
        }

        return 0;
}

It repeatedly prints the characters - \ | / at the same position to give the illusion of a rotating | in the terminal.

The mysqli extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration

I've been searching for hours and no one could help me. I did a simple thing to solve this problem. (WINDOWS 10 x64)

Follow this:

1 - Go to your php_mysqli.dll path (in my case: C:/xampp/php/ext);

2 - Move the php_mysqli.dll to the previous folder (C:/xampp/php);

3 - Open php.ini and search the line: "extension: php_mysqli.dll";

4 - Change to the path where is your file: extension="C:\xampp\php\php_mysqli.dll";

5 - Restart your application (wampp, xampp, etc.) and start Apache Server;

The problem was the path ext/php_mysqli.dll, I've tried changing the line to extension="C:\xampp\php\ext\php_mysqli.dll" but doesn't worked.

Convert unsigned int to signed int C

Pointer arithmetic for void pointer in C

The C standard does not allow void pointer arithmetic. However, GNU C is allowed by considering the size of void is 1.

C11 standard §6.2.5

Paragraph - 19

The void type comprises an empty set of values; it is an incomplete object type that cannot be completed.

Following program is working fine in GCC compiler.

#include<stdio.h>

int main()
{
    int arr[2] = {1, 2};
    void *ptr = &arr;
    ptr = ptr + sizeof(int);
    printf("%d\n", *(int *)ptr);
    return 0;
}

May be other compilers generate an error.

How can I jump to class/method definition in Atom text editor?

For Typescript users, the "atom-typescript" package adds a typescript aware symbols view, you can trigger it with Cmd+R, and it works great to jump to methods-

JOptionPane YES/No Options Confirm Dialog Box Issue

You need to look at the return value of the call to showConfirmDialog. I.E.:

int dialogResult = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog (null, "Would You Like to Save your Previous Note First?","Warning",dialogButton);
if(dialogResult == JOptionPane.YES_OPTION){
  // Saving code here
}

You were testing against dialogButton, which you were using to set the buttons that should be displayed by the dialog, and this variable was never updated - so dialogButton would never have been anything other than JOptionPane.YES_NO_OPTION.

Per the Javadoc for showConfirmDialog:

Returns: an integer indicating the option selected by the user

Make index.html default, but allow index.php to be visited if typed in

Hi,

Well, I have tried the methods mentioned above! it's working yes, but not exactly the way I wanted. I wanted to redirect the default page extension to the main domain with our further action.

Here how I do that...

# Accesible Index Page
<IfModule dir_module>
 DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
 RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.(html|htm|php|php3|php5|shtml|phtml) [NC]
 RewriteRule ^index\.html|htm|php|php3|php5|shtml|phtml$ / [R=301,L]
</IfModule>

The above code simply captures any index.* and redirect it to the main domain.

Thank you

how to print float value upto 2 decimal place without rounding off

i'd suggest shorter and faster approach:

printf("%.2f", ((signed long)(fVal * 100) * 0.01f));

this way you won't overflow int, plus multiplication by 100 shouldn't influence the significand/mantissa itself, because the only thing that really is changing is exponent.

How to remove the focus from a TextBox in WinForms?

A simple solution would be to kill the focus, just create your own class:

public class ViewOnlyTextBox : System.Windows.Forms.TextBox {
    // constants for the message sending
    const int WM_SETFOCUS = 0x0007;
    const int WM_KILLFOCUS = 0x0008;

    protected override void WndProc(ref Message m) {
        if(m.Msg == WM_SETFOCUS) m.Msg = WM_KILLFOCUS;

        base.WndProc (ref m);
    }
}

Attempt to set a non-property-list object as an NSUserDefaults

It seems rather wasteful to me to run through the array and encode the objects into NSData yourself. Your error BC_Person is a non-property-list object is telling you that the framework doesn't know how to serialize your person object.

So all that is needed is to ensure that your person object conforms to NSCoding then you can simply convert your array of custom objects into NSData and store that to defaults. Heres a playground:

Edit: Writing to NSUserDefaults is broken on Xcode 7 so the playground will archive to data and back and print an output. The UserDefaults step is included in case its fixed at a later point

}

//: ### Now lets define a function to convert our array to NSData

func archivePeople(people:[Person]) -> NSData {
    let archivedObject = NSKeyedArchiver.archivedDataWithRootObject(people as NSArray)
    return archivedObject
}

//: ### Create some people

let people = [Person(firstname: "johnny", surname:"appleseed"),Person(firstname: "peter", surname: "mill")]

//: ### Archive our people to NSData

let peopleData = archivePeople(people)

if let unarchivedPeople = NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchiveObjectWithData(peopleData) as? [Person] {
    for person in unarchivedPeople {
        print("\(person.firstname), you have been unarchived")
    }
} else {
    print("Failed to unarchive people")
}

//: ### Lets try use NSUserDefaults
let UserDefaultsPeopleKey = "peoplekey"
func savePeople(people:[Person]) {
    let archivedObject = archivePeople(people)
    let defaults = NSUserDefaults.standardUserDefaults()
    defaults.setObject(archivedObject, forKey: UserDefaultsPeopleKey)
    defaults.synchronize()
}

func retrievePeople() -> [Person]? {
    if let unarchivedObject = NSUserDefaults.standardUserDefaults().objectForKey(UserDefaultsPeopleKey) as? NSData {
        return NSKeyedUnarchiver.unarchiveObjectWithData(unarchivedObject) as? [Person]
    }
    return nil
}

if let retrievedPeople = retrievePeople() {
    for person in retrievedPeople {
        print("\(person.firstname), you have been unarchived")
    }
} else {
    print("Writing to UserDefaults is still broken in playgrounds")
}

And Voila, you have stored an array of custom objects into NSUserDefaults

Folder structure for a Node.js project

It's important to note that there's no consensus on what's the best approach and related frameworks in general do not enforce nor reward certain structures.

I find this to be a frustrating and huge overhead but equally important. It is sort of a downplayed version (but IMO more important) of the style guide issue. I like to point this out because the answer is the same: it doesn't matter what structure you use as long as it's well defined and coherent.

So I'd propose to look for a comprehensive guide that you like and make it clear that the project is based on this.

It's not easy, especially if you're new to this! Expect to spend hours researching. You'll find most guides recommending an MVC-like structure. While several years ago that might have been a solid choice, nowadays that's not necessarily the case. For example here's another approach.

jQuery: How to detect window width on the fly?

Changing a variable doesn't magically execute code within the if-block. Place the common code in a function, then bind the event, and call the function:

$(document).ready(function() {
    // Optimalisation: Store the references outside the event handler:
    var $window = $(window);
    var $pane = $('#pane1');

    function checkWidth() {
        var windowsize = $window.width();
        if (windowsize > 440) {
            //if the window is greater than 440px wide then turn on jScrollPane..
            $pane.jScrollPane({
               scrollbarWidth:15,
               scrollbarMargin:52
            });
        }
    }
    // Execute on load
    checkWidth();
    // Bind event listener
    $(window).resize(checkWidth);
});

What does the Excel range.Rows property really do?

Range.Rows and Range.Columns return essentially the same Range except for the fact that the new Range has a flag which indicates that it represents Rows or Columns. This is necessary for some Excel properties such as Range.Count and Range.Hidden and for some methods such as Range.AutoFit():

  • Range.Rows.Count returns the number of rows in Range.
  • Range.Columns.Count returns the number of columns in Range.
  • Range.Rows.AutoFit() autofits the rows in Range.
  • Range.Columns.AutoFit() autofits the columns in Range.

You might find that Range.EntireRow and Range.EntireColumn are useful, although they still are not exactly what you are looking for. They return all possible columns for EntireRow and all possible rows for EntireColumn for the represented range.

I know this because SpreadsheetGear for .NET comes with .NET APIs which are very similar to Excel's APIs. The SpreadsheetGear API comes with several strongly typed overloads to the IRange indexer including the one you probably wish Excel had:

  • IRange this[int row1, int column1, int row2, int column2];

Codeigniter: does $this->db->last_query(); execute a query?

The query execution happens on all get methods like

$this->db->get('table_name');
$this->db->get_where('table_name',$array);

While last_query contains the last query which was run

$this->db->last_query();

If you want to get query string without execution you will have to do this. Go to system/database/DB_active_rec.php Remove public or protected keyword from these functions

public function _compile_select($select_override = FALSE)
public function _reset_select()

Now you can write query and get it in a variable

$this->db->select('trans_id');
$this->db->from('myTable');
$this->db->where('code','B');
$subQuery = $this->db->_compile_select();

Now reset query so if you want to write another query the object will be cleared.

$this->db->_reset_select();

And the thing is done. Cheers!!! Note : While using this way you must use

$this->db->from('myTable')

instead of

$this->db->get('myTable')

which runs the query.

How do I make the method return type generic?

As you said passing a class would be OK, you could write this:

public <T extends Animal> T callFriend(String name, Class<T> clazz) {
   return (T) friends.get(name);
}

And then use it like this:

jerry.callFriend("spike", Dog.class).bark();
jerry.callFriend("quacker", Duck.class).quack();

Not perfect, but this is pretty much as far as you get with Java generics. There is a way to implement Typesafe Heterogenous Containers (THC) using Super Type Tokens, but that has its own problems again.

There are no exceptions in C. In C the errors are notified by the returned value of the function, the exit value of the process, signals to the process (Program Error Signals (GNU libc)) or the CPU hardware interruption (or other notification error form the CPU if there is)(How processor handles the case of division by zero).

Exceptions are defined in C++ and other languages though. Exception handling in C++ is specified in the C++ standard "S.15 Exception handling", there is no equivalent section in the C standard.

Is there a "theirs" version of "git merge -s ours"?

Why doesn't it exist?

While I mention in "git command for making one branch like another" how to simulate git merge -s theirs, note that Git 2.15 (Q4 2017) is now clearer:

The documentation for '-X<option>' for merges was misleadingly written to suggest that "-s theirs" exists, which is not the case.

See commit c25d98b (25 Sep 2017) by Junio C Hamano (gitster).
(Merged by Junio C Hamano -- gitster -- in commit 4da3e23, 28 Sep 2017)

merge-strategies: avoid implying that "-s theirs" exists

The description of -Xours merge option has a parenthetical note that tells the readers that it is very different from -s ours, which is correct, but the description of -Xtheirs that follows it carelessly says "this is the opposite of ours", giving a false impression that the readers also need to be warned that it is very different from -s theirs, which in reality does not even exist.

-Xtheirs is a strategy option applied to recursive strategy. This means that recursive strategy will still merge anything it can, and will only fall back to "theirs" logic in case of conflicts.

That debate for the pertinence or not of a theirs merge strategy was brought back recently in this Sept. 2017 thread.
It acknowledges older (2008) threads

In short, the previous discussion can be summarized to "we don't want '-s theirs' as it encourages the wrong workflow".

It mentions the alias:

mtheirs = !sh -c 'git merge -s ours --no-commit $1 && git read-tree -m -u $1' -

Yaroslav Halchenko tries to advocate once more for that strategy, but Junio C. Hamano adds:

The reason why ours and theirs are not symmetric is because you are you and not them---the control and ownership of our history and their history is not symmetric.

Once you decide that their history is the mainline, you'd rather want to treat your line of development as a side branch and make a merge in that direction, i.e. the first parent of the resulting merge is a commit on their history and the second parent is the last bad one of your history. So you would end up using "checkout their-history && merge -s ours your-history" to keep the first-parenthood sensible.

And at that point, use of "-s ours" is no longer a workaround for lack of "-s theirs".
It is a proper part of the desired semantics, i.e. from the point of view of the surviving canonical history line, you want to preserve what it did, nullifying what the other line of history did.

Junio adds, as commented by Mike Beaton:

git merge -s ours <their-ref> effectively says 'mark commits made up to <their-ref> on their branch as commits to be permanently ignored';
and this matters because, if you subsequently merge from later states of their branch, their later changes will be brought in without the ignored changes ever being brought in.

Chances are good that having multiple or conflicting version of any of the above could cause unexpected issues like the one in question.

Javascript foreach loop on associative array object

The .length property only tracks properties with numeric indexes (keys). You're using strings for keys.

You can do this:

var arr_jq_TabContents = {}; // no need for an array

arr_jq_TabContents["Main"] = jq_TabContents_Main;
arr_jq_TabContents["Guide"] = jq_TabContents_Guide;
arr_jq_TabContents["Articles"] = jq_TabContents_Articles;
arr_jq_TabContents["Forum"] = jq_TabContents_Forum;

for (var key in arr_jq_TabContents) {
    console.log(arr_jq_TabContents[key]);
}

To be safe, it's a good idea in loops like that to make sure that none of the properties are unexpected results of inheritance:

for (var key in arr_jq_TabContents) {
  if (arr_jq_TabContents.hasOwnProperty(key))
    console.log(arr_jq_TabContents[key]);
}

edit — it's probably a good idea now to note that the Object.keys() function is available on modern browsers and in Node etc. That function returns the "own" keys of an object, as an array:

Object.keys(arr_jq_TabContents).forEach(function(key, index) {
  console.log(this[key]);
}, arr_jq_TabContents);

The callback function passed to .forEach() is called with each key and the key's index in the array returned by Object.keys(). It's also passed the array through which the function is iterating, but that array is not really useful to us; we need the original object. That can be accessed directly by name, but (in my opinion) it's a little nicer to pass it explicitly, which is done by passing a second argument to .forEach() — the original object — which will be bound as this inside the callback. (Just saw that this was noted in a comment below.)

How to get body of a POST in php?

To access the entity body of a POST or PUT request (or any other HTTP method):

$entityBody = file_get_contents('php://input');

Also, the STDIN constant is an already-open stream to php://input, so you can alternatively do:

$entityBody = stream_get_contents(STDIN);

From the PHP manual entry on I/O streamsdocs:

php://input is a read-only stream that allows you to read raw data from the request body. In the case of POST requests, it is preferable to use php://input instead of $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA as it does not depend on special php.ini directives. Moreover, for those cases where $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA is not populated by default, it is a potentially less memory intensive alternative to activating always_populate_raw_post_data. php://input is not available with enctype="multipart/form-data".

Specifically you'll want to note that the php://input stream, regardless of how you access it in a web SAPI, is not seekable. This means that it can only be read once. If you're working in an environment where large HTTP entity bodies are routinely uploaded you may wish to maintain the input in its stream form (rather than buffering it like the first example above).

To maintain the stream resource something like this can be helpful:

<?php

function detectRequestBody() {
    $rawInput = fopen('php://input', 'r');
    $tempStream = fopen('php://temp', 'r+');
    stream_copy_to_stream($rawInput, $tempStream);
    rewind($tempStream);

    return $tempStream;
}

php://temp allows you to manage memory consumption because it will transparently switch to filesystem storage after a certain amount of data is stored (2M by default). This size can be manipulated in the php.ini file or by appending /maxmemory:NN, where NN is the maximum amount of data to keep in memory before using a temporary file, in bytes.

Of course, unless you have a really good reason for seeking on the input stream, you shouldn't need this functionality in a web application. Reading the HTTP request entity body once is usually enough -- don't keep clients waiting all day while your app figures out what to do.

Note that php://input is not available for requests specifying a Content-Type: multipart/form-data header (enctype="multipart/form-data" in HTML forms). This results from PHP already having parsed the form data into the $_POST superglobal.

How to POST the data from a modal form of Bootstrap?

You CAN include a modal within a form. In the Bootstrap documentation it recommends the modal to be a "top level" element, but it still works within a form.

You create a form, and then the modal "save" button will be a button of type="submit" to submit the form from within the modal.

<form asp-action="AddUsersToRole" method="POST" class="mb-3">

    @await Html.PartialAsync("~/Views/Users/_SelectList.cshtml", Model.Users)

    <div class="modal fade" id="role-select-modal" tabindex="-1" role="dialog" aria-labelledby="role-select-modal" aria-hidden="true">
        <div class="modal-dialog" role="document">
            <div class="modal-content">
                <div class="modal-header">
                    <h5 class="modal-title" id="exampleModalLabel">Select a Role</h5>
                </div>
                <div class="modal-body">
                    ...
                </div>
                <div class="modal-footer">
                    <button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary">Add Users to Role</button>
                    <button type="button" class="btn btn-secondary" data-dismiss="modal">Cancel</button>
                </div>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>

</form>

You can post (or GET) your form data to any URL. By default it is the serving page URL, but you can change it by setting the form action. You do not have to use ajax.

Dynamic require in RequireJS, getting "Module name has not been loaded yet for context" error?

Answering to myself. From the RequireJS website:

//THIS WILL FAIL
define(['require'], function (require) {
    var namedModule = require('name');
});

This fails because requirejs needs to be sure to load and execute all dependencies before calling the factory function above. [...] So, either do not pass in the dependency array, or if using the dependency array, list all the dependencies in it.

My solution:

// Modules configuration (modules that will be used as Jade helpers)
define(function () {
    return {
        'moment':   'path/to/moment',
        'filesize': 'path/to/filesize',
        '_':        'path/to/lodash',
        '_s':       'path/to/underscore.string'
    };
});

The loader:

define(['jade', 'lodash', 'config'], function (Jade, _, Config) {
    var deps;

    // Dynamic require
    require(_.values(Config), function () {
        deps = _.object(_.keys(Config), arguments);

        // Use deps...
    });
});

How can I auto increment the C# assembly version via our CI platform (Hudson)?

This is a simpler mechanism. It simply involves the addition of a Windows Batch command task build step before the MSBuild step and the use of a simple find and replace program (FART).

The Batch Step

fart --svn -r AssemblyInfo.cs "[assembly: AssemblyVersion(\"1.0.0.0\")]" "[assembly: AssemblyVersion(\"1.0.%BUILD_NUMBER%.%SVN_REVISION%\")]"
if %ERRORLEVEL%==0 exit /b 1
fart --svn -r AssemblyInfo.cs "[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion(\"1.0.0.0\")]" "[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion(\"1.0.%BUILD_NUMBER%.%SVN_REVISION%\")]"
if %ERRORLEVEL%==0 exit /b 1
exit /b 0

If you are using source control other than svn change the --svn option for the appropriate one for your scm environment.

PHP - define constant inside a class

You can define a class constant in php. But your class constant would be accessible from any object instance as well. This is php's functionality. However, as of php7.1, you can define your class constants with access modifiers (public, private or protected).

A work around would be to define your constant as private or protected and then make them readable via a static function. This function should only return the constant values if called from the static context.

You can also create this static function in your parent class and simply inherit this parent class on all other classes to make it a default functionality.

   void operator delete[](void *dp)         { pnew_delete(dp); }
   void operator delete[](void *dp, Pool*)  { pnew_delete(dp); }
};

// elsewhere...

ClusterPool *cp = new ClusterPool(arg1, arg2, ...);

Obj *new_obj = new (cp) Obj(arg_a, arg_b, ...);

Now you can cluster objects together in a single memory arena, select an allocator which is very fast but does no deallocation, use memory mapping, and any other semantic you wish to impose by choosing the pool and passing it as an argument to an object's placement new operator.

Importing Excel spreadsheet data into another Excel spreadsheet containing VBA

This should get you started: Using VBA in your own Excel workbook, have it prompt the user for the filename of their data file, then just copy that fixed range into your target workbook (that could be either the same workbook as your macro enabled one, or a third workbook). Here's a quick vba example of how that works:

' Get customer workbook...
Dim customerBook As Workbook
Dim filter As String
Dim caption As String
Dim customerFilename As String
Dim customerWorkbook As Workbook
Dim targetWorkbook As Workbook

' make weak assumption that active workbook is the target
Set targetWorkbook = Application.ActiveWorkbook

' get the customer workbook
filter = "Text files (*.xlsx),*.xlsx"
caption = "Please Select an input file "
customerFilename = Application.GetOpenFilename(filter, , caption)

Set customerWorkbook = Application.Workbooks.Open(customerFilename)

' assume range is A1 - C10 in sheet1
' copy data from customer to target workbook
Dim targetSheet As Worksheet
Set targetSheet = targetWorkbook.Worksheets(1)
Dim sourceSheet As Worksheet
Set sourceSheet = customerWorkbook.Worksheets(1)

targetSheet.Range("A1", "C10").Value = sourceSheet.Range("A1", "C10").Value

' Close customer workbook
customerWorkbook.Close

How To Set Up GUI On Amazon EC2 Ubuntu server

So I follow first answer, but my vnc viewer gives me grey screen when I connect to it. And I found this Ask Ubuntu link to solve that.

The only difference with previous answer is you need to install these extra packages:

apt-get install gnome-panel gnome-settings-daemon metacity nautilus gnome-terminal

And use this ~/.vnc/xstartup file:

#!/bin/sh

export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1
unset SESSION_MANAGER
unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &

gnome-panel &
gnome-settings-daemon &
metacity &
nautilus &
gnome-terminal &

Everything else is the same.

Tested on EC2 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

How to delete selected text in the vi editor

When using a terminal like PuTTY, usually mouse clicks and selections are not transmitted to the remote system. So, vi has no idea that you just selected some text. (There are exceptions to this, but in general mouse actions aren't transmitted.)

To delete multiple lines in vi, use something like 5dd to delete 5 lines.

If you're not using Vim, I would strongly recommend doing so. You can use visual selection, where you press V to start a visual block, move the cursor to the other end, and press d to delete (or any other editing command, such as y to copy).

How to hide the soft keyboard from inside a fragment?

Nothing of this worked on API27. I had to add this in the container of the layout, for me it was a ConstraintLayout:

<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout

            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:focusable="true"

            android:focusedByDefault="true">

How to do this using jQuery - document.getElementById("selectlist").value

In some cases of which I can't remember why but $('#selectlist').val() won't always return the correct item value, so I use $('#selectlist option:selected').val() instead.

How to fix homebrew permissions?

If you would like a slightly more targeted approach than the blanket chown -R, you may find this fix-homebrew script useful:

#!/bin/sh

[ -e `which brew` ] || {
    echo Homebrew doesn\'t appear to be installed.
    exit -1
}

BREW_ROOT="`dirname $(dirname $(which brew))`"
BREW_GROUP=admin
BREW_DIRS=".git bin sbin Library Cellar share etc lib opt CONTRIBUTING.md README.md SUPPORTERS.md"

echo "This script will recursively update the group on the following paths"
echo "to the '${BREW_GROUP}' group and make them group writable:"
echo ""

for dir in $BREW_DIRS ; do {
    [ -e "$BREW_ROOT/$dir" ] && echo "    $BREW_ROOT/$dir "
} ; done

echo ""
echo "It will also stash (and clean) any changes that are currently in the homebrew repo, so that you have a fresh blank-slate."
echo ""

read -p 'Press any key to continue or CTRL-C to abort.'

echo "You may be asked below for your login password."
echo ""

# Non-recursively update the root brew path.
echo Updating "$BREW_ROOT" . . .
sudo chgrp "$BREW_GROUP" "$BREW_ROOT"
sudo chmod g+w "$BREW_ROOT"

# Recursively update the other paths.
for dir in $BREW_DIRS ; do {
    [ -e "$BREW_ROOT/$dir" ] && (
        echo Recursively updating "$BREW_ROOT/$dir" . . .
        sudo chmod -R g+w "$BREW_ROOT/$dir"
        sudo chgrp -R "$BREW_GROUP" "$BREW_ROOT/$dir"
    )
} ; done

# Non-distructively move any git crud out of the way
echo Stashing changes in "$BREW_ROOT" . . .
cd $BREW_ROOT
git add .
git stash
git clean -d -f Library

echo Finished.

Instead of doing a chmod to your user, it gives the admin group (to which you presumably belong) write access to the specific directories in /usr/local that homebrew uses. It also tells you exactly what it intends to do before doing it.

How to style components using makeStyles and still have lifecycle methods in Material UI?

I used withStyles instead of makeStyle

EX :

import { withStyles } from '@material-ui/core/styles';
import React, {Component} from "react";

const useStyles = theme => ({
        root: {
           flexGrow: 1,
         },
  });

class App extends Component {
       render() {
                const { classes } = this.props;
                return(
                    <div className={classes.root}>
                       Test
                </div>
                )
          }
}

export default withStyles(useStyles)(App)

  3. Use getsockname to get the local address

Deserialize JSON with Jackson into Polymorphic Types - A Complete Example is giving me a compile error

Whereas @jbarrueta answer is perfect, in the 2.12 version of Jackson was introduced a new long-awaited type for the @JsonTypeInfo annotation, DEDUCTION.

It is useful for the cases when you have no way to change the incoming json or must not do so. I'd still recommend to use use = JsonTypeInfo.Id.NAME, as the new way may throw an exception in complex cases when it has no way to determine which subtype to use.

Now you can simply write

import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonIgnoreProperties;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonSubTypes;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonTypeInfo;

@JsonIgnoreProperties(ignoreUnknown = true)
@JsonTypeInfo(use = JsonTypeInfo.Id.DEDUCTION)
@JsonSubTypes({
    @JsonSubTypes.Type(Dog.class),
    @JsonSubTypes.Type(Cat.class) }
)
public abstract class Animal {

    private String name;

    public String getName() {
        return name;
    }

    public void setName(String name) {
        this.name = name;
    }

}

And it will produce {"name":"ruffus", "breed":"english shepherd"} and {"name":"goya", "favoriteToy":"mice"}

Once again, it's safer to use NAME if some of the fields may be not present, like breed or favoriteToy.

Reading rather large json files in Python

The issue here is that JSON, as a format, is generally parsed in full and then handled in-memory, which for such a large amount of data is clearly problematic.

The solution to this is to work with the data as a stream - reading part of the file, working with it, and then repeating.

The best option appears to be using something like ijson - a module that will work with JSON as a stream, rather than as a block file.

Edit: Also worth a look - kashif's comment about json-streamer and Henrik Heino's comment about bigjson.

Catch error if iframe src fails to load . Error :-"Refused to display 'http://www.google.co.in/' in a frame.."

This is a slight modification to Edens answer - which for me in chrome didn't catch the error. Although you'll still get an error in the console: "Refused to display 'https://www.google.ca/' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'sameorigin'." At least this will catch the error message and then you can deal with it.

 <iframe id="myframe" src="https://google.ca"></iframe>

 <script>
 myframe.onload = function(){
 var that = document.getElementById('myframe');

 try{
    (that.contentWindow||that.contentDocument).location.href;
 }
 catch(err){
    //err:SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin "http://*********" from accessing a cross-origin frame.
    console.log('err:'+err);
}
}
</script>

Linq Syntax - Selecting multiple columns

 var employee = (from res in _db.EMPLOYEEs
 where (res.EMAIL == givenInfo || res.USER_NAME == givenInfo)
 select new {res.EMAIL, res.USERNAME} );

OR you can use

 var employee = (from res in _db.EMPLOYEEs
 where (res.EMAIL == givenInfo || res.USER_NAME == givenInfo)
 select new {email=res.EMAIL, username=res.USERNAME} );

Explanation :

  1. Select employee from the db as res.

  2. Filter the employee details as per the where condition.

  3. Select required fields from the employee object by creating an Anonymous object using new { }

Start an Activity with a parameter

Just add extra data to the Intent you use to call your activity.

In the caller activity :

Intent i = new Intent(this, TheNextActivity.class);
i.putExtra("id", id);
startActivity(i);

Inside the onCreate() of the activity you call :

Bundle b = getIntent().getExtras();
int id = b.getInt("id");

You could also do this if you'd like a simple one-liner:

How to load an ImageView by URL in Android?

I wrote a class to handle this, as it seems to be a recurring need in my various projects:

https://github.com/koush/UrlImageViewHelper

UrlImageViewHelper will fill an ImageView with an image that is found at a URL.

The sample will do a Google Image Search and load/show the results asynchronously.

UrlImageViewHelper will automatically download, save, and cache all the image urls the BitmapDrawables. Duplicate urls will not be loaded into memory twice. Bitmap memory is managed by using a weak reference hash table, so as soon as the image is no longer used by you, it will be garbage collected automatically.

What evaluates to True/False in R?

T and TRUE are True, F and FALSE are False. T and F can be redefined, however, so you should only rely upon TRUE and FALSE. If you compare 0 to FALSE and 1 to TRUE, you will find that they are equal as well, so you might consider them to be True and False as well.

How to get param from url in angular 4?

In angular, They separate it into 2 kind of url.

  1. URL pattern /heroes/:limit. Example: /heroes/20

    • You can get raw value by using route.snapshot.paramMap.get.
    • Subscribe from route.paramMap to get params
  2. URL pattern /heroes. Example: /heroes?limit=20

    • You can get raw value by using route.snapshot.queryParamMap

Difference between Running and Starting a Docker container

daniele3004's answer is already pretty good.

Just a quick and dirty formula for people like me who mixes up run and start from time to time:

docker run [...] = docker pull [...] + docker start [...]

Using setTimeout to delay timing of jQuery actions

.html() only takes a string OR a function as an argument, not both. Try this:

 $("#showDiv").click(function () {
     $('#theDiv').show(1000, function () {
         setTimeout(function () {
             $('#theDiv').html(function () {
                 setTimeout(function () {
                     $('#theDiv').html('Here is some replacement text');
                 }, 0);
                 setTimeout(function () {
                     $('#theDiv').html('More replacement text goes here');
                 }, 2500);
             });
         }, 2500);
     });
 }); //click function ends

Use table row coloring for cells in Bootstrap

With less you can set it up like this;

.table tbody tr {
    &.error > td { background-color: red !important; }
    &.error:hover > td { background-color: yellow !important; }
    &.success > td { background-color: green !important; }
    &.success:hover > td { background-color: yellow !important; }
    ...
}

That did the trick for me.

MySQL match() against() - order by relevance and column?

I have never done so, but it seems like

MATCH (head, head, body) AGAINST ('some words' IN BOOLEAN MODE)

Should give a double weight to matches found in the head.

Just read this comment on the docs page, Thought it might be of value to you:

Posted by Patrick O'Lone on December 9 2002 6:51am

It should be noted in the documentation that IN BOOLEAN MODE will almost always return a relevance of 1.0. In order to get a relevance that is meaningful, you'll need to:

SELECT MATCH('Content') AGAINST ('keyword1 keyword2') as Relevance
FROM table
WHERE MATCH ('Content') AGAINST('+keyword1+keyword2' IN BOOLEAN MODE)
HAVING Relevance > 0.2
ORDER BY Relevance DESC

Notice that you are doing a regular relevance query to obtain relevance factors combined with a WHERE clause that uses BOOLEAN MODE. The BOOLEAN MODE gives you the subset that fulfills the requirements of the BOOLEAN search, the relevance query fulfills the relevance factor, and the HAVING clause (in this case) ensures that the document is relevant to the search (i.e. documents that score less than 0.2 are considered irrelevant). This also allows you to order by relevance.

This may or may not be a bug in the way that IN BOOLEAN MODE operates, although the comments I've read on the mailing list suggest that IN BOOLEAN MODE's relevance ranking is not very complicated, thus lending itself poorly for actually providing relevant documents. BTW - I didn't notice a performance loss for doing this, since it appears MySQL only performs the FULLTEXT search once, even though the two MATCH clauses are different. Use EXPLAIN to prove this.

So it would seem you may not need to worry about calling the fulltext search twice, though you still should "use EXPLAIN to prove this"

How to change text and background color?

    string text = "Hello World. I feel pretty today!";
    len = text.length();
    cout << endl << endl << endl << "\t\t"; // start 3 down, 2 tabs, right

        cout << text[x];
        y++; // add 1 to y, for a new color
        if ( y >254) // There are 255 colors. 255 being white on white. Nothing to see. Bypass it

CSS background-image-opacity?

You can do the faded background with CSS Generated Content

Demo at http://jsfiddle.net/gaby/WktFm/508/

Html

<div class="container">
        contents
</div>

Css

.container{
    position: relative;
    z-index:1;
    overflow:hidden; /*if you want to crop the image*/
}
.container:before{
    z-index:-1;
    position:absolute;
    left:0;
    top:0;
    content: url('path/to/image.ext');
    opacity:0.4;
}

But you cannot modify the opacity as we are not allowed to modify generated content..

You could manipulate it with classes and css events though (but not sure if it fits your needs)

for example

.container:hover:before{
    opacity:1;
}

UPDATE

You can use css transitions to animate the opacity (again through classes)

demo at http://jsfiddle.net/gaby/WktFm/507/

Adding

-webkit-transition: opacity 1s linear;
-o-transition: opacity 1s linear;
-moz-transition: opacity 1s linear;
transition: opacity 1s linear;

to the .container:before rule will make the opacity animate to 1 in one second.

Compatibility

  • FF 5 (maybe 4 also, but do not have it installed.)
  • IE 9 Fails..
  • Webkit based browsers fail (Chrome supports it now v26 - maybe earlier versions too, but just checked with my current build), but they are aware and working on it ( https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23209 )

.. so only the latest FF supports it for the moment.. but a nice idea, no ? :)

How do I check to see if a value is an integer in MySQL?

I have tried using the regular expressions listed above, but they do not work for the following:

SELECT '12 INCHES' REGEXP '^(-|\\+){0,1}([0-9]+\\.[0-9]*|[0-9]*\\.[0-9]+|[0-9]+)$' FROM ...

The above will return 1 (TRUE), meaning the test of the string '12 INCHES' against the regular expression above, returns TRUE. It looks like a number based on the regular expression used above. In this case, because the 12 is at the beginning of the string, the regular expression interprets it as a number.

The following will return the right value (i.e. 0) because the string starts with characters instead of digits

SELECT 'TOP 10' REGEXP '^(-|\\+){0,1}([0-9]+\\.[0-9]*|[0-9]*\\.[0-9]+|[0-9]+)$' FROM ...

The above will return 0 (FALSE) because the beginning of the string is text and not numeric.

However, if you are dealing with strings that have a mix of numbers and letters that begin with a number, you will not get the results you want. REGEXP will interpret the string as a valid number when in fact it is not.

Is there a 'foreach' function in Python 3?

Look at this article. The iterator object nditer from numpy package, introduced in NumPy 1.6, provides many flexible ways to visit all the elements of one or more arrays in a systematic fashion.

Example:

import random
import numpy as np

ptrs = np.int32([[0, 0], [400, 0], [0, 400], [400, 400]])

for ptr in np.nditer(ptrs, op_flags=['readwrite']):
    # apply random shift on 1 for each element of the matrix
    ptr += random.choice([-1, 1])

print(ptrs)

d:\>python nditer.py
[[ -1   1]
 [399  -1]
 [  1 399]
 [399 401]]

What is the use of "assert"?

Watch out for the parentheses. As has been pointed out above, in Python 3, assert is still a statement, so by analogy with print(..), one may extrapolate the same to assert(..) or raise(..) but you shouldn't.

This is important because:

assert(2 + 2 == 5, "Houston we've got a problem")

won't work, unlike

assert 2 + 2 == 5, "Houston we've got a problem"

The reason the first one will not work is that bool( (False, "Houston we've got a problem") ) evaluates to True.

In the statement assert(False), these are just redundant parentheses around False, which evaluate to their contents. But with assert(False,) the parentheses are now a tuple, and a non-empty tuple evaluates to True in a boolean context.

Check if a string is a date value

None of the answers here address checking whether the date is invalid such as February 31. This function addresses that by checking if the returned month is equivalent to the original month and making sure a valid year was presented.

//expected input dd/mm/yyyy or dd.mm.yyyy or dd-mm-yyyy
function isValidDate(s) {
  var separators = ['\\.', '\\-', '\\/'];
  var bits = s.split(new RegExp(separators.join('|'), 'g'));
  var d = new Date(bits[2], bits[1] - 1, bits[0]);
  return d.getFullYear() == bits[2] && d.getMonth() + 1 == bits[1];

How to convert C# nullable int to int

A simple conversion between v1 and v2 is not possible because v1 has a larger domain of values than v2. It's everything v1 can hold plus the null state. To convert you need to explicitly state what value in int will be used to map the null state. The simplest way to do this is the ?? operator

v2 = v1 ?? 0;  // maps null of v1 to 0

This can also be done in long form

int v2;
if (v1.HasValue) {
  v2 = v1.Value;
} else {
  v2 = 0;
}

Read tab-separated file line into array

You're very close:

while IFS=$'\t' read -r -a myArray
do
 echo "${myArray[0]}"
 echo "${myArray[1]}"
 echo "${myArray[2]}"
done < myfile

(The -r tells read that \ isn't special in the input data; the -a myArray tells it to split the input-line into words and store the results in myArray; and the IFS=$'\t' tells it to use only tabs to split words, instead of the regular Bash default of also allowing spaces to split words as well. Note that this approach will treat one or more tabs as the delimiter, so if any field is blank, later fields will be "shifted" into earlier positions in the array. Is that O.K.?)

How do I revert back to an OpenWrt router configuration?

You can run this command for making a factory reset:

killall dropbear uhttpd; sleep 1; mtd -r erase rootfs_data

MySQL Multiple Where Clause

Resize Cross Domain Iframe Height

There is no options in javascript to find the height of a cross domain iframe height but you can done something like this with the help of some server side programming. I used PHP for this example

<code>
    <?php
$output = file_get_contents('http://yourdomain.com');
?>
<div id='iframediv'>
    <?php echo $output; ?>
</div>

<iframe style='display:none' id='iframe' src="http://yourdomain.com" width="100%" marginwidth="0" height="100%" marginheight="0" align="top" scrolling="auto" frameborder="0" hspace="0" vspace="0"> </iframe>

<script>
if(window.attachEvent) {
    window.attachEvent('onload', iframeResizer);
} else {
    if(window.onload) {
        var curronload = window.onload;
        var newonload = function(evt) {
            curronload(evt);
            iframeResizer(evt);
        };
        window.onload = newonload;
    } else {
        window.onload = iframeResizer;
    }
}
   function iframeResizer(){
        var result = document.getElementById("iframediv").offsetHeight;

        document.getElementById("iframe").style.height = result;
        document.getElementById("iframediv").style.display = 'none';
        document.getElementById("iframe").style.display = 'inline';
    }
</script>
</code>
