Reset CSS display property to default value

According to my understanding to your question, as an example: you had a style at the beginning in style sheet (ex. background-color: red), then using java script you changed it to another style (ex. background-color: green), now you want to reset the style to its original value in style sheet (background-color: red) without mentioning or even knowing its value (ex. element.style.backgroundColor = 'red')...!

If I'm correct, I have a good solution for you which is using another class name for the element:

steps:

  1. set the default styles in style sheet as usual according to your desire.
  2. define a new class name in style sheet and add the new style you want.
  3. when you want to trigger between styles, add the new class name to the element or remove it.

if you want to edit or set a new style, get the element by the new class name and edit the style as desired.

I hope this helps. Regards!

Display a RecyclerView in Fragment

This was asked some time ago now, but based on the answer that @nacho_zona3 provided, and previous experience with fragments, the issue is that the views have not been created by the time you are trying to find them with the findViewById() method in onCreate() to fix this, move the following code:

// 1. get a reference to recyclerView
RecyclerView recyclerView = (RecyclerView) findViewById(R.id.list);

// 2. set layoutManger
recyclerView.setLayoutManager(new LinearLayoutManager(this));

// this is data fro recycler view
ItemData itemsData[] = { new ItemData("Indigo",R.drawable.circle),
        new ItemData("Red",R.drawable.color_ic_launcher),
        new ItemData("Blue",R.drawable.indigo),
        new ItemData("Green",R.drawable.circle),
        new ItemData("Amber",R.drawable.color_ic_launcher),
        new ItemData("Deep Orange",R.drawable.indigo)};

// 3. create an adapter
MyAdapter mAdapter = new MyAdapter(itemsData);
// 4. set adapter
recyclerView.setAdapter(mAdapter);
// 5. set item animator to DefaultAnimator
recyclerView.setItemAnimator(new DefaultItemAnimator());

to your fragment's onCreateView() call. A small amount of refactoring is required because all variables and methods called from this method have to be static. The final code should look like:

 public class ColorsFragment extends Fragment {

     public ColorsFragment() {}

     @Override
     public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
         Bundle savedInstanceState) {

         View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_colors, container, false);
         // 1. get a reference to recyclerView
         RecyclerView recyclerView = (RecyclerView) rootView.findViewById(R.id.list);

         // 2. set layoutManger
         recyclerView.setLayoutManager(new LinearLayoutManager(getActivity()));

         // this is data fro recycler view
         ItemData itemsData[] = {
             new ItemData("Indigo", R.drawable.circle),
                 new ItemData("Red", R.drawable.color_ic_launcher),
                 new ItemData("Blue", R.drawable.indigo),
                 new ItemData("Green", R.drawable.circle),
                 new ItemData("Amber", R.drawable.color_ic_launcher),
                 new ItemData("Deep Orange", R.drawable.indigo)
         };

         // 3. create an adapter
         MyAdapter mAdapter = new MyAdapter(itemsData);
         // 4. set adapter
         recyclerView.setAdapter(mAdapter);
         // 5. set item animator to DefaultAnimator
         recyclerView.setItemAnimator(new DefaultItemAnimator());

         return rootView;
     }
 }

So the main thing here is that anywhere you call findViewById() you will need to use rootView.findViewById()

How can I troubleshoot Python "Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>"

My pycharm ce had the same error, was easy to fix it, if someone has that error, just uninstall and delete the folder, use ctrl+h if you can't find the folder in your documents, install the software again and should work again.

Remember to save the scratches folder before erasing the pycharm folder.

The type or namespace cannot be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I get this error when my project .net framework version does not match the framework version of the DLL I am linking to. In my case, I was getting:

"The type or namespace name 'UserVoice' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?).

UserVoice was .Net 4.0, and my project properties were set to ".Net 4.0 Client Profile". Changing to .Net 4.0 on the project cleared the error. I hope this helps someone.

PHP shorthand for isset()?

Update for PHP 7 (thanks shock_gone_wild)

PHP 7 introduces the so called null coalescing operator which simplifies the below statements to:

$var = $var ?? "default";

Before PHP 7

No, there is no special operator or special syntax for this. However, you could use the ternary operator:

$var = isset($var) ? $var : "default";

Or like this:

isset($var) ?: $var = 'default';

How to get Current Directory?

The question is not clear whether the current working directory is wanted or the path of the directory containing the executable.

Most answers seem to answer the latter.

But for the former, and for the second part of the question of creating the file, the C++17 standard now incorporates the filesystem library which simplifies this a lot:

#include <filesystem>
#include <iostream>

std::filesystem::path cwd = std::filesystem::current_path() / "filename.txt";
std::ofstream file(cwd.string());
file.close();

This fetches the current working directory, adds the filename to the path and creates an empty file. Note that the path object takes care of os dependent path handling, so cwd.string() returns an os dependent path string. Neato.

How to define unidirectional OneToMany relationship in JPA

My bible for JPA work is the Java Persistence wikibook. It has a section on unidirectional OneToMany which explains how to do this with a @JoinColumn annotation. In your case, i think you would want:

@OneToMany
@JoinColumn(name="TXTHEAD_CODE")
private Set<Text> text;

I've used a Set rather than a List, because the data itself is not ordered.

The above is using a defaulted referencedColumnName, unlike the example in the wikibook. If that doesn't work, try an explicit one:

@OneToMany
@JoinColumn(name="TXTHEAD_CODE", referencedColumnName="DATREG_META_CODE")
private Set<Text> text;

How do I refresh the page in ASP.NET? (Let it reload itself by code)

I personally need to ensure the page keeps state, so all the text boxes and other input fields retain their values. by doing meta refresh it's like a new post, IsPostBack is always false so all your controls are in the initialized state again. To retain state put this at the end of your Page_Load(). create a hidden button on the page with an event hooked up, something like butRefresh with event butRefresh_Click(...). This code sets a timer on the page to fire a postback just like a user clicked the refresh button themselves. all state and session is retained. Enjoy! (P.S. you may need to put the directive in the @Page header EnableEventValidation="false" if you receive an error on postback.

//tell the browser to post back again in 5 seconds while keeping state of all controls
ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "refresh", "<script>setTimeout(function(){ " + ClientScript.GetPostBackClientHyperlink(butRefresh, "refresh") + " },5000);</script>");

How do you programmatically set an attribute?

setattr(x, attr, 'magic')

For help on it:

>>> help(setattr)
Help on built-in function setattr in module __builtin__:

setattr(...)
    setattr(object, name, value)

    Set a named attribute on an object; setattr(x, 'y', v) is equivalent to
    ``x.y = v''.

Edit: However, you should note (as pointed out in a comment) that you can't do that to a "pure" instance of object. But it is likely you have a simple subclass of object where it will work fine. I would strongly urge the O.P. to never make instances of object like that.

What Regex would capture everything from ' mark to the end of a line?

In your example I'd go for the following pattern:

'([^\n]+)$

use multiline and global options to match all occurences.

To include the linefeed in the match you could use:

'[^\n]+\n

But this might miss the last line if it has no linefeed.

For a single line, if you don't need to match the linefeed I'd prefer to use:

'[^$]+$

ERROR: Cannot open source file " "

You need to check your project settings, under C++, check include directories and make sure it points to where GameEngine.h resides, the other issue could be that GameEngine.h is not in your source file folder or in any include directory and resides in a different folder relative to your project folder. For instance you have 2 projects ProjectA and ProjectB, if you are including GameEngine.h in some source/header file in ProjectA then to include it properly, assuming that ProjectB is in the same parent folder do this:

include "../ProjectB/GameEngine.h"

This is if you have a structure like this:

Root\ProjectA

Root\ProjectB <- GameEngine.h actually lives here

Should try...catch go inside or outside a loop?

setting up a special stack frame for the try/catch adds additional overhead, but the JVM may be able to detect the fact that you're returning and optimize this away.

depending on the number of iterations, performance difference will likely be negligible.

However i agree with the others that having it outside the loop make the loop body look cleaner.

If there's a chance that you'll ever want to continue on with the processing rather than exit if there an invalid number, then you would want the code to be inside the loop.

Replace preg_replace() e modifier with preg_replace_callback

preg_replace shim with eval support

This is very inadvisable. But if you're not a programmer, or really prefer terrible code, you could use a substitute preg_replace function to keep your /e flag working temporarily.

/**
 * Can be used as a stopgap shim for preg_replace() calls with /e flag.
 * Is likely to fail for more complex string munging expressions. And
 * very obviously won't help with local-scope variable expressions.
 *
 * @license: CC-BY-*.*-comment-must-be-retained
 * @security: Provides `eval` support for replacement patterns. Which
 * poses troubles for user-supplied input when paired with overly
 * generic placeholders. This variant is only slightly stricter than
 * the C implementation, but still susceptible to varexpression, quote
 * breakouts and mundane exploits from unquoted capture placeholders.
 * @url: https://stackoverflow.com/q/15454220
 */
function preg_replace_eval($pattern, $replacement, $subject, $limit=-1) {
    # strip /e flag
    $pattern = preg_replace('/(\W[a-df-z]*)e([a-df-z]*)$/i', '$1$2', $pattern);
    # warn about most blatant misuses at least
    if (preg_match('/\(\.[+*]/', $pattern)) {
        trigger_error("preg_replace_eval(): regex contains (.*) or (.+) placeholders, which easily causes security issues for unconstrained/user input in the replacement expression. Transform your code to use preg_replace_callback() with a sane replacement callback!");
    }
    # run preg_replace with eval-callback
    return preg_replace_callback(
        $pattern,
        function ($matches) use ($replacement) {
            # substitute $1/$2/… with literals from $matches[]
            $repl = preg_replace_callback(
                '/(?<!\\\\)(?:[$]|\\\\)(\d+)/',
                function ($m) use ($matches) {
                    if (!isset($matches[$m[1]])) { trigger_error("No capture group for '$m[0]' eval placeholder"); }
                    return addcslashes($matches[$m[1]], '\"\'\`\$\\\0'); # additionally escapes '$' and backticks
                },
                $replacement
            );
            # run the replacement expression
            return eval("return $repl;");
        },
        $subject,
        $limit
    );
}

In essence, you just include that function in your codebase, and edit preg_replace to preg_replace_eval wherever the /e flag was used.

Pros and cons:

  • Really just tested with a few samples from Stack Overflow.
  • Does only support the easy cases (function calls, not variable lookups).
  • Contains a few more restrictions and advisory notices.
  • Will yield dislocated and less comprehensible errors for expression failures.
  • However is still a usable temporary solution and doesn't complicate a proper transition to preg_replace_callback.
  • And the license comment is just meant to deter people from overusing or spreading this too far.

Replacement code generator

Now this is somewhat redundant. But might help those users who are still overwhelmed with manually restructuring their code to preg_replace_callback. While this is effectively more time consuming, a code generator has less trouble to expand the /e replacement string into an expression. It's a very unremarkable conversion, but likely suffices for the most prevalent examples.

To use this function, edit any broken preg_replace call into preg_replace_eval_replacement and run it once. This will print out the according preg_replace_callback block to be used in its place.

/**
 * Use once to generate a crude preg_replace_callback() substitution. Might often
 * require additional changes in the `return …;` expression. You'll also have to
 * refit the variable names for input/output obviously.
 *
 * >>>  preg_replace_eval_replacement("/\w+/", 'strtopupper("$1")', $ignored);
 */
function preg_replace_eval_replacement($pattern, $replacement, $subjectvar="IGNORED") {
    $pattern = preg_replace('/(\W[a-df-z]*)e([a-df-z]*)$/i', '$1$2', $pattern);
    $replacement = preg_replace_callback('/[\'\"]?(?<!\\\\)(?:[$]|\\\\)(\d+)[\'\"]?/', function ($m) { return "\$m[{$m[1]}]"; }, $replacement);
    $ve = "var_export";
    $bt = debug_backtrace(0, 1)[0];
    print "<pre><code>
    #----------------------------------------------------
    # replace preg_*() call in '$bt[file]' line $bt[line] with:
    #----------------------------------------------------
    \$OUTPUT_VAR = preg_replace_callback(
        {$ve($pattern, TRUE)},
        function (\$m) {
            return {$replacement};
        },
        \$YOUR_INPUT_VARIABLE_GOES_HERE
    )
    #----------------------------------------------------
    </code></pre>\n";
}

Take in mind that mere copy&pasting is not programming. You'll have to adapt the generated code back to your actual input/output variable names, or usage context.

  • Specificially the $OUTPUT = assignment would have to go if the previous preg_replace call was used in an if.
  • It's best to keep temporary variables or the multiline code block structure though.

And the replacement expression may demand more readability improvements or rework.

  • For instance stripslashes() often becomes redundant in literal expressions.
  • Variable-scope lookups require a use or global reference for/within the callback.
  • Unevenly quote-enclosed "-$1-$2" capture references will end up syntactically broken by the plain transformation into "-$m[1]-$m[2].

The code output is merely a starting point. And yes, this would have been more useful as an online tool. This code rewriting approach (edit, run, edit, edit) is somewhat impractical. Yet could be more approachable to those who are accustomed to task-centric coding (more steps, more uncoveries). So this alternative might curb a few more duplicate questions.

Recommended method for escaping HTML in Java

There is a newer version of the Apache Commons Lang library and it uses a different package name (org.apache.commons.lang3). The StringEscapeUtils now has different static methods for escaping different types of documents (http://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-lang/javadocs/api-3.0/index.html). So to escape HTML version 4.0 string:

import static org.apache.commons.lang3.StringEscapeUtils.escapeHtml4;

String output = escapeHtml4("The less than sign (<) and ampersand (&) must be escaped before using them in HTML");

How can I count the number of elements with same class?

I'd like to write explicitly two methods which allow accomplishing this in pure JavaScript:

document.getElementsByClassName('realClasssName').length

Note 1: Argument of this method needs a string with the real class name, without the dot at the begin of this string.

document.querySelectorAll('.realClasssName').length

Note 2: Argument of this method needs a string with the real class name but with the dot at the begin of this string.

Note 3: This method works also with any other CSS selectors, not only with class selector. So it's more universal.

I also write one method, but using two name conventions to solve this problem using jQuery:

jQuery('.realClasssName').length

or

$('.realClasssName').length

Note 4: Here we also have to remember about the dot, before the class name, and we can also use other CSS selectors.

Rollback transaction after @Test

You need to run your test with a Spring context and a transaction manager, e.g.,

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(locations = {"/your-applicationContext.xml"})
@TransactionConfiguration(transactionManager="txMgr")
public class StudentSystemTest {

     @Test
     public void testTransactionalService() {
         // test transactional service
     }

     @Test
     @Transactional
     public void testNonTransactionalService() {
         // test non-transactional service
     }
}

See chapter 3.5.8. Transaction Management of the Spring reference for further details.

Java Webservice Client (Best way)

What is the best approach to do this JAVA?

I would personally NOT use Axis 2, even for client side development only. Here is why I stay away from it:

  1. I don't like its architecture and hate its counter productive deployment model.
  2. I find it to be low quality project.
  3. I don't like its performances (see this benchmark against JAX-WS RI).
  4. It's always a nightmare to setup dependencies (I use Maven and I always have to fight with the gazillion of dependencies) (see #2)
  5. Axis sucked big time and Axis2 isn't better. No, this is not a personal opinion, there is a consensus.
  6. I suffered once, never again.

The only reason Axis is still around is IMO because it's used in Eclipse since ages. Thanks god, this has been fixed in Eclipse Helios and I hope Axis2 will finally die. There are just much better stacks.

I read about SAAJ, looks like that will be more granular level of approach?

To do what?

Is there any other way than using the WSDL2Java tool, to generate the code. Maybe wsimport in another option. What are the pros and cons?

Yes! Prefer a JAX-WS stack like CXF or JAX-WS RI (you might also read about Metro, Metro = JAX-WS RI + WSIT), they are just more elegant, simpler, easier to use. In your case, I would just use JAX-WS RI which is included in Java 6 and thus wsimport.

Can someone send the links for some good tutorials on these topics?

That's another pro, there are plenty of (good quality) tutorials for JAX-WS, see for example:

What are the options we need to use while generating the code using the WSDL2Java?

No options, use wsimport :)

Why I can't access remote Jupyter Notebook server?

Have you configured the jupyter_notebook_config.py file to allow external connections?

By default, Jupyter Notebook only accepts connections from localhost (eg, from the same computer that its running on). By modifying the NotebookApp.allow_origin option from the default ' ' to '*', you allow Jupyter to be accessed externally.

c.NotebookApp.allow_origin = '*' #allow all origins

You'll also need to change the IPs that the notebook will listen on:

c.NotebookApp.ip = '0.0.0.0' # listen on all IPs

How do I make a column unique and index it in a Ruby on Rails migration?

Since this hasn't been mentioned yet but answers the question I had when I found this page, you can also specify that an index should be unique when adding it via t.references or t.belongs_to:

create_table :accounts do |t|
  t.references :user, index: { unique: true } # or t.belongs_to

  # other columns...
end

Differences Between vbLf, vbCrLf & vbCr Constants

The three constants have similar functions nowadays, but different historical origins, and very occasionally you may be required to use one or the other.

You need to think back to the days of old manual typewriters to get the origins of this. There are two distinct actions needed to start a new line of text:

  1. move the typing head back to the left. In practice in a typewriter this is done by moving the roll which carries the paper (the "carriage") all the way back to the right -- the typing head is fixed. This is a carriage return.
  2. move the paper up by the width of one line. This is a line feed.

In computers, these two actions are represented by two different characters - carriage return is CR, ASCII character 13, vbCr; line feed is LF, ASCII character 10, vbLf. In the old days of teletypes and line printers, the printer needed to be sent these two characters -- traditionally in the sequence CRLF -- to start a new line, and so the CRLF combination -- vbCrLf -- became a traditional line ending sequence, in some computing environments.

The problem was, of course, that it made just as much sense to only use one character to mark the line ending, and have the terminal or printer perform both the carriage return and line feed actions automatically. And so before you knew it, we had 3 different valid line endings: LF alone (used in Unix and Macintoshes), CR alone (apparently used in older Mac OSes) and the CRLF combination (used in DOS, and hence in Windows). This in turn led to the complications of DOS / Windows programs having the option of opening files in text mode, where any CRLF pair read from the file was converted to a single CR (and vice versa when writing).

So - to cut a (much too) long story short - there are historical reasons for the existence of the three separate line separators, which are now often irrelevant: and perhaps the best course of action in .NET is to use Environment.NewLine which means someone else has decided for you which to use, and future portability issues should be reduced.

This is an old question, but because the existing answers could be very dangerous, I wanted to leave this answer for future folks who might stumble in here...

The answers based on using an Object as a HashMap are broken and can cause extremely nasty consequences if you use anything other than a String as the key. The problem is that Object properties are coerced to Strings using the .toString method. This can lead to the following nastiness:

function MyObject(name) {
  this.name = name;
};
var key1 = new MyObject("one");
var key2 = new MyObject("two");

var map = {};
map[key1] = 1;
map[key2] = 2;

If you were expecting that Object would behave in the same way as a Java Map here, you would be rather miffed to discover that map only contains one entry with the String key [object Object]:

> JSON.stringify(map);
{"[object Object]": 2}

This is clearly not a replacement for Java's HashMap. Bizarrely, given it's age, Javascript does not currently have a general purpose map object. There is hope on the horizon, though: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Map although a glance at the Browser Compatability table there will show that this isn't ready to used in general purpose web apps yet.

In the meantime, the best you can do is:

  • Deliberately use Strings as keys. I.e. use explicit strings as keys rather than relying on the implicit .toString-ing of the keys you use.
  • Ensure that the objects you are using as keys have a well-defined .toString() method that suits your understanding of uniqueness for these objects.
  • If you cannot/don't want to change the .toString of the key Objects, when storing and retrieving the entries, convert the objects to a string which represents your understanding of uniqueness. E.g. map[toUniqueString(key1)] = 1

Sometimes, though, that is not possible. If you want to map data based on, for example File objects, there is no reliable way to do this because the attributes that the File object exposes are not enough to ensure its uniqueness. (You may have two File objects that represent different files on disk, but there is no way to distinguish between them in JS in the browser). In these cases, unfortunately, all that you can do is refactor your code to eliminate the need for storing these in a may; perhaps, by using an array instead and referencing them exclusively by index.

Set max-height on inner div so scroll bars appear, but not on parent div

This would work just fine, set the height to desired pixel

#inner-right{
            height: 100px;
            overflow:auto;
            }

jQuery class within class selector

is just going to look for a div with class="outer inner", is that correct?

No, '.outer .inner' will look for all elements with the .inner class that also have an element with the .outer class as an ancestor. '.outer.inner' (no space) would give the results you're thinking of.

'.outer > .inner' will look for immediate children of an element with the .outer class for elements with the .inner class.

Both '.outer .inner' and '.outer > .inner' should work for your example, although the selectors are fundamentally different and you should be wary of this.

How to destroy a JavaScript object?

You can't delete objects, they are removed when there are no more references to them. You can delete references with delete.

However, if you have created circular references in your objects you may have to de-couple some things.

Convert time in HH:MM:SS format to seconds only?

No need to explode anything:

$str_time = "23:12:95";

$str_time = preg_replace("/^([\d]{1,2})\:([\d]{2})$/", "00:$1:$2", $str_time);

sscanf($str_time, "%d:%d:%d", $hours, $minutes, $seconds);

$time_seconds = $hours * 3600 + $minutes * 60 + $seconds;

And if you don't want to use regular expressions:

$str_time = "2:50";

sscanf($str_time, "%d:%d:%d", $hours, $minutes, $seconds);

$time_seconds = isset($seconds) ? $hours * 3600 + $minutes * 60 + $seconds : $hours * 60 + $minutes;

Pandas: drop a level from a multi-level column index?

A small trick using sum with level=1(work when level=1 is all unique)

df.sum(level=1,axis=1)
Out[202]:
   b  c
0  1  2
1  3  4

More common solution get_level_values

df.columns=df.columns.get_level_values(1)
df
Out[206]:
   b  c
0  1  2
1  3  4

How would I find the second largest salary from the employee table?

Most of the other answers seem to be db specific.

General SQL query should be as follows:

select
   sal
from
   emp a
where
   N = (
      select
         count(distinct sal)
      from
         emp b
      where
         a.sal <= b.sal
   )
where
   N = any value

and this query should be able to work on any database.

Get and set position with jQuery .offset()

//Get
var p = $("#elementId");
var offset = p.offset();

//set
$("#secondElementId").offset({ top: offset.top, left: offset.left});

Component is part of the declaration of 2 modules

Simple fix,

Go to your app.module.ts file and remove/comment everything that binds with add_event. There is no need of adding components to the App.module.ts which are generated by the ionic cli because it creates a separate module for components called components.module.ts.

It has the needed module component imports

How do I find out what keystore my JVM is using?

Your keystore will be in your JAVA_HOME---> JRE -->lib---> security--> cacerts. You need to check where your JAVA_HOME is configured, possibly one of these places,

  1. Computer--->Advanced --> Environment variables---> JAVA_HOME

  2. Your server startup batch files.

In your import command -keystore cacerts (give full path to the above JRE here instead of just saying cacerts).

Git - Undo pushed commits

You can REVERT (or you can also call it DELETE) the Git Commit BOTH Locally and Remotely if you follow the steps as given below via git command line.

Run the following command to see the commit id that you want to revert

git log --oneline --decorate --graph

You will get like a following screenshot enter image description here

If you also check remote (via Web Interface) then you can see that this would be same as shown below

enter image description here

As per screenshot currently you are on commit id e110322 however you want to revert back to 030bbf6 BOTH LOCALLY and REMOTELY.

Perform the following steps to DELETE/REVERT Commits Locally+Remotely

First Locally Reverting to commit id 030bbf6

git reset --hard 030bbf6

followed by

git clean -f -d

These two commands clean force reset to commit stage 030bbf6 as shown below in snapshot

enter image description here

now if you run git status then you'll see that you are TWO Commits BEHIND from the remote branch as shown below enter image description here

Run following to update your indexes (if there are any updates). It is recommended that you ask all developers not to accept any pull requests on main remote branch.

git fetch --all

Once you are done with it then you are required to Push this commit forcefully by using + symbol in-front of branch as shown below. I have used here as master branch, you can replace it with any

enter image description here Code

git push -u origin +master

now if you see the web interface of remote then commit there should be reverted as well.

How to import image (.svg, .png ) in a React Component

If the images are inside the src/assets folder you can use require with the correct path in the require statement,

var Diamond = require('../../assets/linux_logo.jpg');

 export class ItemCols extends Component {
    render(){
        return (
            <div>
                <section className="one-fourth" id="html">
                    <img src={Diamond} />
                </section>
            </div>
        )
    }
}

How to change the style of alert box?

One option is to use altertify, this gives a nice looking alert box.

Simply include the required libraries from here, and use the following piece of code to display the alert box.

alertify.confirm("This is a confirm dialog.",
  function(){
    alertify.success('Ok');
  },
  function(){
    alertify.error('Cancel');
  });

The output will look like this. To see it in action here is the demo

How do I script a "yes" response for installing programs?

Although this may be more complicated/heavier-weight than you want, one very flexible way to do it is using something like Expect (or one of the derivatives in another programming language).

Expect is a language designed specifically to control text-based applications, which is exactly what you are looking to do. If you end up needing to do something more complicated (like with logic to actually decide what to do/answer next), Expect is the way to go.

How to break out of while loop in Python?

ans=(R)
while True:
    print('Your score is so far '+str(myScore)+'.')
    print("Would you like to roll or quit?")
    ans=input("Roll...")
    if ans=='R':
        R=random.randint(1, 8)
        print("You rolled a "+str(R)+".")
        myScore=R+myScore
    else:
        print("Now I'll see if I can break your score...")
        ans = False
        break

How to merge 2 JSON objects from 2 files using jq?

Since 1.4 this is now possible with the * operator. When given two objects, it will merge them recursively. For example,

jq -s '.[0] * .[1]' file1 file2

Important: Note the -s (--slurp) flag, which puts files in the same array.

Would get you:

{
  "value1": 200,
  "timestamp": 1382461861,
  "value": {
    "aaa": {
      "value1": "v1",
      "value2": "v2",
      "value3": "v3",
      "value4": 4
    },
    "bbb": {
      "value1": "v1",
      "value2": "v2",
      "value3": "v3"
    },
    "ccc": {
      "value1": "v1",
      "value2": "v2"
    },
    "ddd": {
      "value3": "v3",
      "value4": 4
    }
  },
  "status": 200
}

If you also want to get rid of the other keys (like your expected result), one way to do it is this:

jq -s '.[0] * .[1] | {value: .value}' file1 file2

Or the presumably somewhat more efficient (because it doesn't merge any other values):

jq -s '.[0].value * .[1].value | {value: .}' file1 file2

\r\n, \r and \n what is the difference between them?

They are normal symbols as 'a' or '?' or any other. Just (invisible) entries in a string. \r moves cursor to the beginning of the line. \n goes one line down.

As for your replacement, you haven't specified what language you're using, so here's the sketch:

someString.replace("\r\n", "\n").replace("\r", "\n")

What does yield mean in PHP?

simple example

<?php
echo '#start main# ';
function a(){
    echo '{start[';
    for($i=1; $i<=9; $i++)
        yield $i;
    echo ']end} ';
}
foreach(a() as $v)
    echo $v.',';
echo '#end main#';
?>

output

#start main# {start[1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,]end} #end main#

advanced example

<?php
echo '#start main# ';
function a(){
    echo '{start[';
    for($i=1; $i<=9; $i++)
        yield $i;
    echo ']end} ';
}
foreach(a() as $k => $v){
    if($k === 5)
        break;
    echo $k.'=>'.$v.',';
}
echo '#end main#';
?>

output

#start main# {start[0=>1,1=>2,2=>3,3=>4,4=>5,#end main#

How to Customize the time format for Python logging?

From the official documentation regarding the Formatter class:

The constructor takes two optional arguments: a message format string and a date format string.

So change

# create formatter
formatter = logging.Formatter("%(asctime)s;%(levelname)s;%(message)s")

to

# create formatter
formatter = logging.Formatter("%(asctime)s;%(levelname)s;%(message)s",
                              "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S")

What does asterisk * mean in Python?

A single star means that the variable 'a' will be a tuple of extra parameters that were supplied to the function. The double star means the variable 'kw' will be a variable-size dictionary of extra parameters that were supplied with keywords.

Although the actual behavior is spec'd out, it still sometimes can be very non-intuitive. Writing some sample functions and calling them with various parameter styles may help you understand what is allowed and what the results are.

def f0(a)
def f1(*a)
def f2(**a)
def f3(*a, **b)

How to convert text to binary code in JavaScript?

  1. traverse the string
  2. convert every character to their char code
  3. convert the char code to binary
  4. push it into an array and add the left 0s
  5. return a string separated by space

Code:

function textToBin(text) {
  var length = text.length,
      output = [];
  for (var i = 0;i < length; i++) {
    var bin = text[i].charCodeAt().toString(2);
    output.push(Array(8-bin.length+1).join("0") + bin);
  }
  return output.join(" ");
}
textToBin("!a") => "00100001 01100001"

Another way

function textToBin(text) {
  return (
    Array
      .from(text)
      .reduce((acc, char) => acc.concat(char.charCodeAt().toString(2)), [])
      .map(bin => '0'.repeat(8 - bin.length) + bin )
      .join(' ')
  );
}

Should you use rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) or rgba(255, 255, 255, 0) for transparency in CSS?

There are two ways of storing a color with alpha. The first is exactly as you see it, with each component as-is. The second is to use pre-multiplied alpha, where the color values are multiplied by the alpha after converting it to the range 0.0-1.0; this is done to make compositing easier. Ordinarily you shouldn't notice or care which way is implemented by any particular engine, but there are corner cases where you might, for example if you tried to increase the opacity of the color. If you use rgba(0, 0, 0, 0) you are less likely to to see a difference between the two approaches.

How to create Select List for Country and States/province in MVC

Designing You Model:

Public class ModelName
{
    ...// Properties
    public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> ListName { get; set; }
}

Prepare and bind List to Model in Controller :

    public ActionResult Index(ModelName model)
    {
        var items = // Your List of data
        model.ListName = items.Select(x=> new SelectListItem() {
                    Text = x.prop,
                    Value = x.prop2
               });
    }

In You View :

@Html.DropDownListFor(m => Model.prop2,Model.ListName)

Redirection of standard and error output appending to the same log file

Andy gave me some good pointers, but I wanted to do it in an even cleaner way. Not to mention that with the 2>&1 >> method PowerShell complained to me about the log file being accessed by another process, i.e. both stderr and stdout trying to lock the file for access, I guess. So here's how I worked it around.

First let's generate a nice filename, but that's really just for being pedantic:

$name = "sync_common"
$currdate = get-date -f yyyy-MM-dd
$logfile = "c:\scripts\$name\log\$name-$currdate.txt"

And here's where the trick begins:

start-transcript -append -path $logfile

write-output "starting sync"
robocopy /mir /copyall S:\common \\10.0.0.2\common 2>&1 | Write-Output
some_other.exe /exeparams 2>&1 | Write-Output
...
write-output "ending sync"

stop-transcript

With start-transcript and stop-transcript you can redirect ALL output of PowerShell commands to a single file, but it doesn't work correctly with external commands. So let's just redirect all the output of those to the stdout of PS and let transcript do the rest.

In fact, I have no idea why the MS engineers say they haven't fixed this yet "due to the high cost and technical complexities involved" when it can be worked around in such a simple way.

Either way, running every single command with start-process is a huge clutter IMHO, but with this method, all you gotta do is append the 2>&1 | Write-Output code to each line which runs external commands.

PHP: convert spaces in string into %20?

I believe that, if you need to use the %20 variant, you could perhaps use rawurlencode().

How do I use Bash on Windows from the Visual Studio Code integrated terminal?

It depends on whether you have installed Git Bash in the current user only or all users:

If it is installed on all users then put "terminal.integrated.shell.windows": "C:\\Program Files\\Git\\bin\\bash.exe" in your User Settings (Ctrl + Comma).

If it is installed on only the current user then put "terminal.integrated.shell.windows": "C:\\Users\\<name of your user>\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Git\\bin\\bash.exe" in your User Settings (Ctrl + Comma).

If the methods listed above do not work then you should try Christer's solution which says -

If you want the integrated environment you need to point to the sh.exe file inside the bin folder of your Git installation.

So the configuration should say C:\\<my-git-install>\\bin\\sh.exe.

Note: The sh.exe and bash.exe appear completely same to me. There should be no difference between them.

What is the purpose of backbone.js?

Backbone.js is basically an uber-light framework that allows you to structure your Javascript code in an MVC (Model, View, Controller) fashion where...

Model is part of your code that retrieves and populates the data,

View is the HTML representation of this model (views change as models change, etc.)

and optional Controller that in this case allows you to save the state of your Javascript application via a hashbang URL, for example: http://twitter.com/#search?q=backbone.js

Some pros that I discovered with Backbone:

  • No more Javascript Spaghetti: code is organized and broken down into semantically meaningful .js files which are later combined using JAMMIT

  • No more jQuery.data(bla, bla): no need to store data in DOM, store data in models instead

  • event binding just works

  • extremely useful Underscore utility library

  • backbone.js code is well documented and a great read. Opened my eyes to a number of JS code techniques.

Cons:

  • Took me a while to wrap my head around it and figure out how to apply it to my code, but I'm a Javascript newbie.

Here is a set of great tutorials on using Backbone with Rails as the back-end:

CloudEdit: A Backbone.js Tutorial with Rails:

http://www.jamesyu.org/2011/02/09/backbone.js-tutorial-with-rails-part-2/

p.s. There is also this wonderful Collection class that lets you deal with collections of models and mimic nested models, but I don't want to confuse you from the start.

IIS_IUSRS and IUSR permissions in IIS8

@EvilDr You can create an IUSR_[identifier] account within your AD environment and let the particular application pool run under that IUSR_[identifier] account:

"Application pool" > "Advanced Settings" > "Identity" > "Custom account"

Set your website to "Applicaton user (pass-through authentication)" and not "Specific user", in the Advanced Settings.

Now give that IUSR_[identifier] the appropriate NTFS permissions on files and folders, for example: modify on companydata.

Difference between Big-O and Little-O Notation

In general

Asymptotic notation is something you can understand as: how do functions compare when zooming out? (A good way to test this is simply to use a tool like Desmos and play with your mouse wheel). In particular:

  • f(n) ? o(n) means: at some point, the more you zoom out, the more f(n) will be dominated by n (it will progressively diverge from it).
  • g(n) ? T(n) means: at some point, zooming out will not change how g(n) compare to n (if we remove ticks from the axis you couldn't tell the zoom level).

Finally h(n) ? O(n) means that function h can be in either of these two categories. It can either look a lot like n or it could be smaller and smaller than n when n increases. Basically, both f(n) and g(n) are also in O(n).

In computer science

In computer science, people will usually prove that a given algorithm admits both an upper O and a lower bound . When both bounds meet that means that we found an asymptotically optimal algorithm to solve that particular problem.

For example, if we prove that the complexity of an algorithm is both in O(n) and (n) it implies that its complexity is in T(n). That's the definition of T and it more or less translates to "asymptotically equal". Which also means that no algorithm can solve the given problem in o(n). Again, roughly saying "this problem can't be solved in less than n steps".

An upper bound of O(n) simply means that even in the worse case, the algorithm will terminate in at most n steps (ignoring all constant factors, both multiplicative and additive). A lower bound of (n) means on the opposite that we built some examples where the problem solved by this algorithm couldn't be solved in less than n steps (again ignoring multiplicative and additive constants). The number of steps is at most n and at least n so this problem complexity is "exactly n". Instead of saying "ignoring constant multiplicative/additive factor" every time we just write T(n) for short.

"Too many values to unpack" Exception

Most likely there is an error somewhere in the get_profile() call. In your view, before you return the request object, put this line:

request.user.get_profile()

It should raise the error, and give you a more detailed traceback, which you can then use to further debug.

How to see the CREATE VIEW code for a view in PostgreSQL?

These is a little thing to point out.
Using the function pg_get_viewdef or pg_views or information_schema.views you will always get a rewrited version of your original DDL.
The rewited version may or not be the same as your originl DDL script.

If the Rule Manager rewrite your view definition your original DLL will be lost and you will able to read the only the rewrited version of your view definition.
Not all views are rewrited but if you use sub-select or joins probably your views will be rewrited.

Set size on background image with CSS?

Only CSS 3 supports that,

background-size: 200px 50px;

But I would edit the image itself, so that the user needs to load less, and it might look better than a shrunken image without antialiasing.

Google Maps API v2: How to make markers clickable?

All markers in Google Android Maps Api v2 are clickable. You don't need to set any additional properties to your marker. What you need to do - is to register marker click callback to your googleMap and handle click within callback:

public class MarkerDemoActivity extends android.support.v4.app.FragmentActivity
    implements OnMarkerClickListener
{
    private Marker myMarker;

    private void setUpMap()
    {
        .......
        googleMap.setOnMarkerClickListener(this);

        myMarker = googleMap.addMarker(new MarkerOptions()
                    .position(latLng)
                    .title("My Spot")
                    .snippet("This is my spot!")
                    .icon(BitmapDescriptorFactory.defaultMarker(BitmapDescriptorFactory.HUE_AZURE)));
        ......
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onMarkerClick(final Marker marker) {

        if (marker.equals(myMarker))
        {
            //handle click here
        }
    }
}

here is a good guide on google about marker customization

Create a directory if it does not exist and then create the files in that directory as well

This code checks for the existence of the directory first and creates it if not, and creates the file afterwards. Please note that I couldn't verify some of your method calls as I don't have your complete code, so I'm assuming the calls to things like getTimeStamp() and getClassName() will work. You should also do something with the possible IOException that can be thrown when using any of the java.io.* classes - either your function that writes the files should throw this exception (and it be handled elsewhere), or you should do it in the method directly. Also, I assumed that id is of type String - I don't know as your code doesn't explicitly define it. If it is something else like an int, you should probably cast it to a String before using it in the fileName as I have done here.

Also, I replaced your append calls with concat or + as I saw appropriate.

public void writeFile(String value){
    String PATH = "/remote/dir/server/";
    String directoryName = PATH.concat(this.getClassName());
    String fileName = id + getTimeStamp() + ".txt";

    File directory = new File(directoryName);
    if (! directory.exists()){
        directory.mkdir();
        // If you require it to make the entire directory path including parents,
        // use directory.mkdirs(); here instead.
    }

    File file = new File(directoryName + "/" + fileName);
    try{
        FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(file.getAbsoluteFile());
        BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(fw);
        bw.write(value);

You should probably not use bare path names like this if you want to run the code on Microsoft Windows - I'm not sure what it will do with the / in the filenames. For full portability, you should probably use something like File.separator to construct your paths.

Edit: According to a comment by JosefScript below, it's not necessary to test for directory existence. The directory.mkdir() call will return true if it created a directory, and false if it didn't, including the case when the directory already existed.

Entity Framework : How do you refresh the model when the db changes?

I've been working on a project, not too large, that incorporates Entity Framework, about a dozen tables, and about 15 stored procs and functions. After weeks of development, attempting to refresh my tables and stored procs has yielded mixed results as far as successfully updating the model. Sometimes the changes are effective, most times they are not. Simple column changes (changing order, adding, removing, or renaming) sometimes works, most times does not. Visual Studio seems to have more problems with refreshing than just adding new. It also exhibits more problems with stored proc changes not being reflected, especially when columns are added or deleted or renamed. I have not detected any consistent behavior so i can't say "This type of change will always be updated and this type of change will not".

End result, if you want 100% effective solution, delete the EDMX file from the project, "Add new" item to project (ADO.NET Entity Data Model), and make sure you use the same name for the Model Name. This works every time.

Great solutions here, just one more option that taking into consideration handling of null values:

Map<String,Object> map = new HashMap<>();

Map<String,String> stringifiedMap = map.entrySet().stream()
             .filter(m -> m.getKey() != null && m.getValue() !=null)
             .collect(Collectors.toMap(Map.Entry::getKey, e -> (String)e.getValue()));

Creating a blocking Queue<T> in .NET?

That looks very unsafe (very little synchronization); how about something like:

class SizeQueue<T>
{
    private readonly Queue<T> queue = new Queue<T>();
    private readonly int maxSize;
    public SizeQueue(int maxSize) { this.maxSize = maxSize; }

    public void Enqueue(T item)
    {
        lock (queue)
        {
            while (queue.Count >= maxSize)
            {
                Monitor.Wait(queue);
            }
            queue.Enqueue(item);
            if (queue.Count == 1)
            {
                // wake up any blocked dequeue
                Monitor.PulseAll(queue);
            }
        }
    }
    public T Dequeue()
    {
        lock (queue)
        {
            while (queue.Count == 0)
            {
                Monitor.Wait(queue);
            }
            T item = queue.Dequeue();
            if (queue.Count == maxSize - 1)
            {
                // wake up any blocked enqueue
                Monitor.PulseAll(queue);
            }
            return item;
        }
    }
}

(edit)

In reality, you'd want a way to close the queue so that readers start exiting cleanly - perhaps something like a bool flag - if set, an empty queue just returns (rather than blocking):

bool closing;
public void Close()
{
    lock(queue)
    {
        closing = true;
        Monitor.PulseAll(queue);
    }
}
public bool TryDequeue(out T value)
{
    lock (queue)
    {
        while (queue.Count == 0)
        {
            if (closing)
            {
                value = default(T);
                return false;
            }
            Monitor.Wait(queue);
        }
        value = queue.Dequeue();
        if (queue.Count == maxSize - 1)
        {
            // wake up any blocked enqueue
            Monitor.PulseAll(queue);
        }
        return true;
    }
}

Sample database for exercise

You want huge?

Here's a small table: create table foo (id int not null primary key auto_increment, crap char(2000));

insert into foo(crap) values ('');

-- each time you run the next line, the number of rows in foo doubles. insert into foo( crap ) select * from foo;

run it twenty more times, you have over a million rows to play with.

Yes, if he's looking for looks of relations to navigate, this is not the answer. But if by huge he means to test performance and his ability to optimize, this will do it. I did exactly this (and then updated with random values) to test an potential answer I had for another question. (And didn't answer it, because I couldn't come up with better performance than what that asker had.)

Had he asked for "complex", I'd have gien a differnt answer. To me,"huge" implies "lots of rows".

Because you don't need huge to play with tables and relations. Consider a table, by itself, with no nullable columns. How many different kinds of rows can there be? Only one, as all columns must have some value as none can be null.

Every nullable column multiples by two the number of different kinds of rows possible: a row where that column is null, an row where it isn't null.

Now consider the table, not in isolation. Consider a table that is a child table: for every child that has an FK to the parent, that, is a many-to-one, there can be 0, 1 or many children. So we multiply by three times the count we got in the previous step (no rows for zero, one for exactly one, two rows for many). For any grandparent to which the parent is a many, another three.

For many-to-many relations, we can have have no relation, a one-to-one, a one-to-many, many-to-one, or a many-to-many. So for each many-to-many we can reach in a graph from the table, we multiply the rows by nine -- or just like two one-to manys. If the many-to-many also has data, we multiply by the nullability number.

Tables that we can't reach in our graph -- those that we have no direct or indirect FK to, don't multiply the rows in our table.

By recursively multiplying the each table we can reach, we can come up with the number of rows needed to provide one of each "kind", and we need no more than those to test every possible relation in our schema. And we're nowhere near huge.

Nested jQuery.each() - continue/break

The problem here is that while you can return false from within the .each callback, the .each function itself returns the jQuery object. So you have to return a false at both levels to stop the iteration of the loop. Also since there is not way to know if the inner .each found a match or not, we will have to use a shared variable using a closure that gets updated.

Each inner iteration of words refers to the same notFound variable, so we just need to update it when a match is found, and then return it. The outer closure already has a reference to it, so it can break out when needed.

$(sentences).each(function() {
    var s = this;
    var notFound = true;

    $(words).each(function() {
        return (notFound = (s.indexOf(this) == -1));
    });

    return notFound;
});

You can try your example here.

In Python how should I test if a variable is None, True or False

I believe that throwing an exception is a better idea for your situation. An alternative will be the simulation method to return a tuple. The first item will be the status and the second one the result:

result = simulate(open("myfile"))
if not result[0]:
  print "error parsing stream"
else:
  ret= result[1]

How do I lowercase a string in Python?

How to convert string to lowercase in Python?

Is there any way to convert an entire user inputted string from uppercase, or even part uppercase to lowercase?

E.g. Kilometers --> kilometers

The canonical Pythonic way of doing this is

>>> 'Kilometers'.lower()
'kilometers'

However, if the purpose is to do case insensitive matching, you should use case-folding:

>>> 'Kilometers'.casefold()
'kilometers'

Here's why:

>>> "Maße".casefold()
'masse'
>>> "Maße".lower()
'maße'
>>> "MASSE" == "Maße"
False
>>> "MASSE".lower() == "Maße".lower()
False
>>> "MASSE".casefold() == "Maße".casefold()
True

This is a str method in Python 3, but in Python 2, you'll want to look at the PyICU or py2casefold - several answers address this here.

Unicode Python 3

Python 3 handles plain string literals as unicode:

>>> string = '????????'
>>> string
'????????'
>>> string.lower()
'????????'

Python 2, plain string literals are bytes

In Python 2, the below, pasted into a shell, encodes the literal as a string of bytes, using utf-8.

And lower doesn't map any changes that bytes would be aware of, so we get the same string.

>>> string = '????????'
>>> string
'\xd0\x9a\xd0\xb8\xd0\xbb\xd0\xbe\xd0\xbc\xd0\xb5\xd1\x82\xd1\x80'
>>> string.lower()
'\xd0\x9a\xd0\xb8\xd0\xbb\xd0\xbe\xd0\xbc\xd0\xb5\xd1\x82\xd1\x80'
>>> print string.lower()
????????

In scripts, Python will object to non-ascii (as of Python 2.5, and warning in Python 2.4) bytes being in a string with no encoding given, since the intended coding would be ambiguous. For more on that, see the Unicode how-to in the docs and PEP 263

Use Unicode literals, not str literals

So we need a unicode string to handle this conversion, accomplished easily with a unicode string literal, which disambiguates with a u prefix (and note the u prefix also works in Python 3):

>>> unicode_literal = u'????????'
>>> print(unicode_literal.lower())
????????

Note that the bytes are completely different from the str bytes - the escape character is '\u' followed by the 2-byte width, or 16 bit representation of these unicode letters:

>>> unicode_literal
u'\u041a\u0438\u043b\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0440'
>>> unicode_literal.lower()
u'\u043a\u0438\u043b\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0440'

Now if we only have it in the form of a str, we need to convert it to unicode. Python's Unicode type is a universal encoding format that has many advantages relative to most other encodings. We can either use the unicode constructor or str.decode method with the codec to convert the str to unicode:

>>> unicode_from_string = unicode(string, 'utf-8') # "encoding" unicode from string
>>> print(unicode_from_string.lower())
????????
>>> string_to_unicode = string.decode('utf-8')
>>> print(string_to_unicode.lower())
????????
>>> unicode_from_string == string_to_unicode == unicode_literal
True

Both methods convert to the unicode type - and same as the unicode_literal.

Best Practice, use Unicode

It is recommended that you always work with text in Unicode.

Software should only work with Unicode strings internally, converting to a particular encoding on output.

Can encode back when necessary

However, to get the lowercase back in type str, encode the python string to utf-8 again:

>>> print string
????????
>>> string
'\xd0\x9a\xd0\xb8\xd0\xbb\xd0\xbe\xd0\xbc\xd0\xb5\xd1\x82\xd1\x80'
>>> string.decode('utf-8')
u'\u041a\u0438\u043b\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0440'
>>> string.decode('utf-8').lower()
u'\u043a\u0438\u043b\u043e\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0440'
>>> string.decode('utf-8').lower().encode('utf-8')
'\xd0\xba\xd0\xb8\xd0\xbb\xd0\xbe\xd0\xbc\xd0\xb5\xd1\x82\xd1\x80'
>>> print string.decode('utf-8').lower().encode('utf-8')
????????

So in Python 2, Unicode can encode into Python strings, and Python strings can decode into the Unicode type.

How can I add an item to a SelectList in ASP.net MVC

I liked @AshOoO's answer but like @Rajan Rawal I needed to preserve selected item state, if any. So I added my customization to his method AddFirstItem()

public static SelectList AddFirstItem(SelectList origList, SelectListItem firstItem)
{
    List<SelectListItem> newList = origList.ToList();
    newList.Insert(0, firstItem);

    var selectedItem = newList.FirstOrDefault(item => item.Selected);
    var selectedItemValue = String.Empty;
    if (selectedItem != null)
    {
        selectedItemValue = selectedItem.Value;
    }

    return new SelectList(newList, "Value", "Text", selectedItemValue);
}

When should iteritems() be used instead of items()?

As the dictionary documentation for python 2 and python 3 would tell you, in python 2 items returns a list, while iteritems returns a iterator.

In python 3, items returns a view, which is pretty much the same as an iterator.

If you are using python 2, you may want to user iteritems if you are dealing with large dictionaries and all you want to do is iterate over the items (not necessarily copy them to a list)

Ring Buffer in Java

Consider CircularFifoBuffer from Apache Common.Collections. Unlike Queue you don't have to maintain the limited size of underlying collection and wrap it once you hit the limit.

Buffer buf = new CircularFifoBuffer(4);
buf.add("A");
buf.add("B");
buf.add("C");
buf.add("D"); //ABCD
buf.add("E"); //BCDE

CircularFifoBuffer will do this for you because of the following properties:

  • CircularFifoBuffer is a first in first out buffer with a fixed size that replaces its oldest element if full.
  • The removal order of a CircularFifoBuffer is based on the insertion order; elements are removed in the same order in which they were added. The iteration order is the same as the removal order.
  • The add(Object), BoundedFifoBuffer.remove() and BoundedFifoBuffer.get() operations all perform in constant time. All other operations perform in linear time or worse.

However you should consider it's limitations as well - for example, you can't add missing timeseries to this collection because it doens't allow nulls.

NOTE: When using current Common Collections (4.*), you have to use Queue. Like this:

Queue buf = new CircularFifoQueue(4);

How can I save multiple documents concurrently in Mongoose/Node.js?

Use insertMany function to insert many documents. This sends only one operation to the server and Mongoose validates all the documents before hitting the mongo server. By default Mongoose inserts item in the order they exist in the array. If you are ok with not maintaining any order then set ordered:false.

Important - Error handling:

When ordered:true validation and error handling happens in a group means if one fails everything will fail.

When ordered:false validation and error handling happens individually and operation will be continued. Error will be reported back in an array of errors.

How to extract text from a PDF?

One of the comments here used gs on Windows. I had some success with that on Linux/OSX too, with the following syntax:

gs \

 -dNODISPLAY \
 -dSAFER \
 -dDELAYBIND \
 -dWRITESYSTEMDICT \
 -dSIMPLE \
 -f ps2ascii.ps \
 "${input}" \
 -dQUIET \
 -c quit

I used dSIMPLE instead of dCOMPLEX because the latter outputs 1 character per line.

TypeScript error: Type 'void' is not assignable to type 'boolean'

Your code is passing a function as an argument to find. That function takes an element argument (of type Conversation) and returns void (meaning there is no return value). TypeScript describes this as (element: Conversation) => void'

What TypeScript is saying is that the find function doesn't expect to receive a function that takes a Conversation and returns void. It expects a function that takes a Conversations, a number and a Conversation array, and that this function should return a boolean.

So bottom line is that you either need to change your code to pass in the values to find correctly, or else you need to provide an overload to the definition of find in your definition file that accepts a Conversation and returns void.

Filtering collections in C#

If you're using C# 3.0 you can use linq, way better and way more elegant:

List<int> myList = GetListOfIntsFromSomewhere();

// This will filter out the list of ints that are > than 7, Where returns an
// IEnumerable<T> so a call to ToList is required to convert back to a List<T>.
List<int> filteredList = myList.Where( x => x > 7).ToList();

If you can't find the .Where, that means you need to import using System.Linq; at the top of your file.

How can I load webpage content into a div on page load?

With jQuery, it is possible, however not using ajax.

function LoadPage(){
  $.get('http://a_site.com/a_page.html', function(data) {
    $('#siteloader').html(data);
  });
}

And then place onload="LoadPage()" in the body tag.

Although if you follow this route, a php version might be better:

echo htmlspecialchars(file_get_contents("some URL"));

What is the difference between a port and a socket?

A socket is a data I/O mechanism. A port is a contractual concept of a communication protocol. A socket can exist without a port. A port can exist witout a specific socket (e.g. if several sockets are active on the same port, which may be allowed for some protocols).

A port is used to determine which socket the receiver should route the packet to, with many protocols, but it is not always required and the receiving socket selection can be done by other means - a port is entirely a tool used by the protocol handler in the network subsystem. e.g. if a protocol does not use a port, packets can go to all listening sockets or any socket.

How can I create a carriage return in my C# string

Along with Environment.NewLine and the literal \r\n or just \n you may also use a verbatim string in C#. These begin with @ and can have embedded newlines. The only thing to keep in mind is that " needs to be escaped as "". An example:

string s = @"This is a string
that contains embedded new lines,
that will appear when this string is used."

How to print the current time in a Batch-File?

If you use the command

time /T

that will print the time. (without the /T, it will try to set the time)

date /T

is similar for the date.

If cmd's Command Extensions are enabled (they are enabled by default, but in this question they appear to be disabled), then the environment variables %DATE% and %TIME% will expand to the current date and time each time they are expanded. The format used is the same as the DATE and TIME commands.

To see the other dynamic environment variables that exist when Command Extensions are enabled, run set /?.

making matplotlib scatter plots from dataframes in Python's pandas

There is little to be added to Garrett's great answer, but pandas also has a scatter method. Using that, it's as easy as

df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randn(10,2), columns=['col1','col2'])
df['col3'] = np.arange(len(df))**2 * 100 + 100
df.plot.scatter('col1', 'col2', df['col3'])

dpi value of default "large", "medium" and "small" text views android

To put it in another way, can we replicate the appearance of these text views without using the android:textAppearance attribute?

Like biegleux already said:

  • small represents 14sp
  • medium represents 18sp
  • large represents 22sp

If you want to use the small, medium or large value on any text in your Android app, you can just create a dimens.xml file in your values folder and define the text size there with the following 3 lines:

<dimen name="text_size_small">14sp</dimen>
<dimen name="text_size_medium">18sp</dimen>
<dimen name="text_size_large">22sp</dimen>

Here is an example for a TextView with large text from the dimens.xml file:

<TextView
  android:id="@+id/hello_world"
  android:text="hello world"
  android:layout_width="wrap_content"
  android:layout_height="wrap_content"
  android:textSize="@dimen/text_size_large"/>

How to call a function from a string stored in a variable?

I dont know why u have to use that, doesnt sound so good to me at all, but if there are only a small amount of functions, you could use a if/elseif construct. I dont know if a direct solution is possible.

something like $foo = "bar"; $test = "foo"; echo $$test;

should return bar, you can try around but i dont think this will work for functions

Input text dialog Android

Sounds like a good opportunity to use an AlertDialog.

As basic as it seems, Android does not have a built-in dialog to do this (as far as I know). Fortunately, it's just a little extra work on top of creating a standard AlertDialog. You simply need to create an EditText for the user to input data, and set it as the view of the AlertDialog. You can customize the type of input allowed using setInputType, if you need.

If you're able to use a member variable, you can simply set the variable to the value of the EditText, and it will persist after the dialog has dismissed. If you can't use a member variable, you may need to use a listener to send the string value to the right place. (I can edit and elaborate more if this is what you need).

Within your class:

private String m_Text = "";

Within the OnClickListener of your button (or in a function called from there):

AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this);
builder.setTitle("Title");

// Set up the input
final EditText input = new EditText(this);
// Specify the type of input expected; this, for example, sets the input as a password, and will mask the text
input.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_TEXT | InputType.TYPE_TEXT_VARIATION_PASSWORD);
builder.setView(input);

// Set up the buttons
builder.setPositiveButton("OK", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
        m_Text = input.getText().toString();
    }
});
builder.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
        dialog.cancel();
    }
});

builder.show();

What is tail recursion?

Recursion means a function calling itself. For example:

(define (un-ended name)
  (un-ended 'me)
  (print "How can I get here?"))

Tail-Recursion means the recursion that conclude the function:

(define (un-ended name)
  (print "hello")
  (un-ended 'me))

See, the last thing un-ended function (procedure, in Scheme jargon) does is to call itself. Another (more useful) example is:

(define (map lst op)
  (define (helper done left)
    (if (nil? left)
        done
        (helper (cons (op (car left))
                      done)
                (cdr left))))
  (reverse (helper '() lst)))

In the helper procedure, the LAST thing it does if the left is not nil is to call itself (AFTER cons something and cdr something). This is basically how you map a list.

The tail-recursion has a great advantage that the interpreter (or compiler, dependent on the language and vendor) can optimize it, and transform it into something equivalent to a while loop. As matter of fact, in Scheme tradition, most "for" and "while" loop is done in a tail-recursion manner (there is no for and while, as far as I know).

SQL, Postgres OIDs, What are they and why are they useful?

OIDs being phased out

The core team responsible for Postgres is gradually phasing out OIDs.

Postgres 12 removes special behavior of OID columns

The use of OID as an optional system column on your tables is now removed from Postgres 12. You can no longer use:

  • CREATE TABLE … WITH OIDS command
  • default_with_oids (boolean) compatibility setting

The data type OID remains in Postgres 12. You can explicitly create a column of the type OID.

After migrating to Postgres 12, any optionally-defined system column oid will no longer be invisible by default. Performing a SELECT * will now include this column. Note that this extra “surprise” column may break naïvely written SQL code.

From Arraylist to Array

ArrayList<String> a = new ArrayList<String>();
a.add( "test" );
@SuppressWarnings( "unused")
Object[] array = a.toArray();

It depends on what you want to achieve if you need to manipulate the array later it would cost more effort than keeping the string in the ArrayList. You have also random access with an ArrayList by list.get( index );

HTML form input tag name element array with JavaScript

1.) First off, what is the correct terminology for an array created on the end of the name element of an input tag in a form?

"Oftimes Confusing PHPism"

As far as JavaScript is concerned a bunch of form controls with the same name are just a bunch of form controls with the same name, and form controls with names that include square brackets are just form controls with names that include square brackets.

The PHP naming convention for form controls with the same name is sometimes useful (when you have a number of groups of controls so you can do things like this:

<input name="name[1]">
<input name="email[1]">
<input name="sex[1]" type="radio" value="m">
<input name="sex[1]" type="radio" value="f">

<input name="name[2]">
<input name="email[2]">
<input name="sex[2]" type="radio" value="m">
<input name="sex[2]" type="radio" value="f">

) but does confuse some people. Some other languages have adopted the convention since this was originally written, but generally only as an optional feature. For example, via this module for JavaScript.

2.) How do I get the information from that array with JavaScript?

It is still just a matter of getting the property with the same name as the form control from elements. The trick is that since the name of the form controls includes square brackets, you can't use dot notation and have to use square bracket notation just like any other JavaScript property name that includes special characters.

Since you have multiple elements with that name, it will be a collection rather then a single control, so you can loop over it with a standard for loop that makes use of its length property.

var myForm = document.forms.id_of_form;
var myControls = myForm.elements['p_id[]'];
for (var i = 0; i < myControls.length; i++) {
    var aControl = myControls[i];
}

Storing Images in DB - Yea or Nay?

I have worked with many digital storage systems and they all store digital objects on the file system. They tend to use a branch approach, so there will be an archive tree on the file system, often starting with year of entry e.g. 2009, subdirectory will be month e.g. 8 for August, next directory will be day e.g. 11 and sometimes they will use hour as well, the file will then be named with the records persistent ID. Using BLOBS has its advantages and I have heard of it being used often in the IT parts of the chemical industry for storing thousands or millions of photographs and diagrams. It can provide more granular security, a single method of backup, potentially better data integrity and improved inter media searching, Oracle has many features for this within the package they used to call Intermedia (I think it is called something else now). The file system can also have granular security provided through a system such as XACML or another XML type security object. See D Space of Fedora Object Store for examples.

How to use the unsigned Integer in Java 8 and Java 9?

If using a third party library is an option, there is jOOU (a spin off library from jOOQ), which offers wrapper types for unsigned integer numbers in Java. That's not exactly the same thing as having primitive type (and thus byte code) support for unsigned types, but perhaps it's still good enough for your use-case.

import static org.joou.Unsigned.*;

// and then...
UByte    b = ubyte(1);
UShort   s = ushort(1);
UInteger i = uint(1);
ULong    l = ulong(1);

All of these types extend java.lang.Number and can be converted into higher-order primitive types and BigInteger.

(Disclaimer: I work for the company behind these libraries)

How can I pass a file argument to my bash script using a Terminal command in Linux?

you can use getopt to handle parameters in your bash script. there are not many explanations for getopt out there. here is an example:

#!/bin/sh

OPTIONS=$(getopt -o hf:gb -l help,file:,foo,bar -- "$@")

if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
  echo "getopt error"
  exit 1
fi

eval set -- $OPTIONS

  case "$1" in
    -h|--help) HELP=1 ;;
    -f|--file) FILE="$2" ; shift ;;
    -g|--foo)  FOO=1 ;;
    -b|--bar)  BAR=1 ;;
    --)        shift ; break ;;
    *)         echo "unknown option: $1" ; exit 1 ;;
  esac
  shift
done

if [ $# -ne 0 ]; then
  echo "unknown option(s): $@"
  exit 1
fi

echo "help: $HELP"
echo "file: $FILE"
echo "foo: $FOO"
echo "bar: $BAR"

How can I remove an element from a list?

I don't know R at all, but a bit of creative googling led me here: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/05/04/1919.html

The key quote from there:

I do not find explicit documentation for R on how to remove elements from lists, but trial and error tells me

myList[[5]] <- NULL

will remove the 5th element and then "close up" the hole caused by deletion of that element. That suffles the index values, So I have to be careful in dropping elements. I must work from the back of the list to the front.

A response to that post later in the thread states:

For deleting an element of a list, see R FAQ 7.1

And the relevant section of the R FAQ says:

... Do not set x[i] or x[[i]] to NULL, because this will remove the corresponding component from the list.

Which seems to tell you (in a somewhat backwards way) how to remove an element.

Hope that helps, or at least leads you in the right direction.

getElementsByClassName not working

If you want to do it by ClassName you could do:

<script type="text/javascript">
function hideTd(className){
    var elements;

    if (document.getElementsByClassName)
    {
        elements = document.getElementsByClassName(className);
    }
    else
    {
        var elArray = [];
        var tmp = document.getElementsByTagName(elements);
        var regex = new RegExp("(^|\\s)" + className+ "(\\s|$)");
        for ( var i = 0; i < tmp.length; i++ ) {

            if ( regex.test(tmp[i].className) ) {
                elArray.push(tmp[i]);
            }
        }

        elements = elArray;
    }

    for(var i = 0, i < elements.length; i++) {
       if( elements[i].textContent == ''){
          elements[i].style.display = 'none';
       }
    }

  }
</script>

How do I change the font color in an html table?

Something like this, if want to go old-school.

<font color="blue">Sustaining : $60.00 USD - yearly</font>

Though a more modern approach would be to use a css style:

<td style="color:#0000ff">Sustaining : $60.00 USD - yearly</td>

There are of course even more general ways to do it.

  UPDATE BookingRequest
     SET status = 1
   WHERE idRequest = NEW.idRequest;

Understanding the difference between Object.create() and new SomeFunction()

Object creation variants.

Variant 1 : 'new Object()' -> Object constructor without arguments.

var p1 = new Object(); // 'new Object()' create and return empty object -> {}

var p2 = new Object(); // 'new Object()' create and return empty object -> {}

console.log(p1); // empty object -> {}

console.log(p2); // empty object -> {}

// p1 and p2 are pointers to different objects
console.log(p1 === p2); // false

console.log(p1.prototype); // undefined

// empty object which is in fact Object.prototype
console.log(p1.__proto__); // {}

// empty object to which p1.__proto__ points
console.log(Object.prototype); // {}

console.log(p1.__proto__ === Object.prototype); // true

// null, which is in fact Object.prototype.__proto__
console.log(p1.__proto__.__proto__); // null

console.log(Object.prototype.__proto__); // null

enter image description here

Variant 2 : 'new Object(person)' -> Object constructor with argument.

const person = {
    name: 'no name',
    lastName: 'no lastName',
    age: -1
}

// 'new Object(person)' return 'person', which is pointer to the object ->
//  -> { name: 'no name', lastName: 'no lastName', age: -1 }
var p1 = new Object(person);

// 'new Object(person)' return 'person', which is pointer to the object ->
//  -> { name: 'no name', lastName: 'no lastName', age: -1 }
var p2 = new Object(person);

// person, p1 and p2 are pointers to the same object
console.log(p1 === p2); // true
console.log(p1 === person); // true
console.log(p2 === person); // true

p1.name = 'John'; // change 'name' by 'p1'
p2.lastName = 'Doe'; // change 'lastName' by 'p2'
person.age = 25; // change 'age' by 'person'

// when print 'p1', 'p2' and 'person', it's the same result,
// because the object they points is the same
console.log(p1); // { name: 'John', lastName: 'Doe', age: 25 }
console.log(p2); // { name: 'John', lastName: 'Doe', age: 25 }
console.log(person); // { name: 'John', lastName: 'Doe', age: 25 }

enter image description here

Variant 3.1 : 'Object.create(person)'. Use Object.create with simple object 'person'. 'Object.create(person)' will create(and return) new empty object and add property '__proto__' to the same new empty object. This property '__proto__' will point to the object 'person'.

const person = {
        name: 'no name',
        lastName: 'no lastName',
        age: -1,
        getInfo: function getName() {
           return `${this.name} ${this.lastName}, ${this.age}!`;
    }
}

var p1 = Object.create(person);

var p2 = Object.create(person);

// 'p1.__proto__' and 'p2.__proto__' points to
// the same object -> 'person'
// { name: 'no name', lastName: 'no lastName', age: -1, getInfo: [Function: getName] }
console.log(p1.__proto__);
console.log(p2.__proto__);
console.log(p1.__proto__ === p2.__proto__); // true

console.log(person.__proto__); // {}(which is the Object.prototype)

// 'person', 'p1' and 'p2' are different
console.log(p1 === person); // false
console.log(p1 === p2); // false
console.log(p2 === person); // false

// { name: 'no name', lastName: 'no lastName', age: -1, getInfo: [Function: getName] }
console.log(person);

console.log(p1); // empty object - {}

console.log(p2); // empty object - {}

// add properties to object 'p1'
// (properties with the same names like in object 'person')
p1.name = 'John';
p1.lastName = 'Doe';
p1.age = 25;

// add properties to object 'p2'
// (properties with the same names like in object 'person')
p2.name = 'Tom';
p2.lastName = 'Harrison';
p2.age = 38;

// { name: 'no name', lastName: 'no lastName', age: -1, getInfo: [Function: getName] }
console.log(person);

// { name: 'John', lastName: 'Doe', age: 25 }
console.log(p1);

// { name: 'Tom', lastName: 'Harrison', age: 38 }
console.log(p2);

// use by '__proto__'(link from 'p1' to 'person'),
// person's function 'getInfo'
console.log(p1.getInfo()); // John Doe, 25!

// use by '__proto__'(link from 'p2' to 'person'),
// person's function 'getInfo'
console.log(p2.getInfo()); // Tom Harrison, 38!

enter image description here

Variant 3.2 : 'Object.create(Object.prototype)'. Use Object.create with built-in object -> 'Object.prototype'. 'Object.create(Object.prototype)' will create(and return) new empty object and add property '__proto__' to the same new empty object. This property '__proto__' will point to the object 'Object.prototype'.

// 'Object.create(Object.prototype)' :
// 1. create and return empty object -> {}.
// 2. add to 'p1' property '__proto__', which is link to 'Object.prototype'
var p1 = Object.create(Object.prototype);

// 'Object.create(Object.prototype)' :
// 1. create and return empty object -> {}.
// 2. add to 'p2' property '__proto__', which is link to 'Object.prototype'
var p2 = Object.create(Object.prototype);

console.log(p1); // {}

console.log(p2); // {}

console.log(p1 === p2); // false

console.log(p1.prototype); // undefined

console.log(p2.prototype); // undefined

console.log(p1.__proto__ === Object.prototype); // true

console.log(p2.__proto__ === Object.prototype); // true

enter image description here

Variant 4 : 'new SomeFunction()'

// 'this' in constructor-function 'Person'
// represents a new instace,
// that will be created by 'new Person(...)'
// and returned implicitly
function Person(name, lastName, age) {

    this.name = name;
    this.lastName = lastName;
    this.age = age;

    //-----------------------------------------------------------------
    // !--- only for demonstration ---
    // if add function 'getInfo' into
    // constructor-function 'Person',
    // then all instances will have a copy of the function 'getInfo'!
    //
    // this.getInfo: function getInfo() {
    //  return this.name + " " + this.lastName + ", " + this.age + "!";
    // }
    //-----------------------------------------------------------------
}

// 'Person.prototype' is an empty object
// (before add function 'getInfo')
console.log(Person.prototype); // Person {}

// With 'getInfo' added to 'Person.prototype',
// instances by their properties '__proto__',
// will have access to the function 'getInfo'.
// With this approach, instances not need
// a copy of the function 'getInfo' for every instance.
Person.prototype.getInfo = function getInfo() {
    return this.name + " " + this.lastName + ", " + this.age + "!";
}

// after function 'getInfo' is added to 'Person.prototype'
console.log(Person.prototype); // Person { getInfo: [Function: getInfo] }

// create instance 'p1'
var p1 = new Person('John', 'Doe', 25);

// create instance 'p2'
var p2 = new Person('Tom', 'Harrison', 38);

// Person { name: 'John', lastName: 'Doe', age: 25 }
console.log(p1);

// Person { name: 'Tom', lastName: 'Harrison', age: 38 }
console.log(p2);

// 'p1.__proto__' points to 'Person.prototype'
console.log(p1.__proto__); // Person { getInfo: [Function: getInfo] }

// 'p2.__proto__' points to 'Person.prototype'
console.log(p2.__proto__); // Person { getInfo: [Function: getInfo] }

console.log(p1.__proto__ === p2.__proto__); // true

// 'p1' and 'p2' points to different objects(instaces of 'Person')
console.log(p1 === p2); // false

// 'p1' by its property '__proto__' reaches 'Person.prototype.getInfo'
// and use 'getInfo' with 'p1'-instance's data
console.log(p1.getInfo()); // John Doe, 25!

// 'p2' by its property '__proto__' reaches 'Person.prototype.getInfo'
// and use 'getInfo' with 'p2'-instance's data
console.log(p2.getInfo()); // Tom Harrison, 38!

displayname attribute vs display attribute

They both give you the same results but the key difference I see is that you cannot specify a ResourceType in DisplayName attribute. For an example in MVC 2, you had to subclass the DisplayName attribute to provide resource via localization. Display attribute (new in MVC3 and .NET4) supports ResourceType overload as an "out of the box" property.

Fast ceiling of an integer division in C / C++

There's a solution for both positive and negative x but only for positive y with just 1 division and without branches:

int ceil(int x, int y) {
    return x / y + (x % y > 0);

Note, if x is positive then division is towards zero, and we should add 1 if reminder is not zero.

If x is negative then division is towards zero, that's what we need, and we will not add anything because x % y is not positive

Can a relative sitemap url be used in a robots.txt?

Good technical & logical question my dear friend. No in robots.txt file you can't go with relative URL of the sitemap; you need to go with the complete URL of the sitemap.

It's better to go with "sitemap: https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml"

In the above URL after the colon gives space. I also like to support Deepak.

MySQL: Check if the user exists and drop it

Um... Why all the complications and tricks?

Rather then using DROP USER... You can simply delete the user from the mysql.user table (which doesn't throw an error if the user does not exist), and then flush privileges to apply the change.

DELETE FROM mysql.user WHERE User = 'SomeUser' AND Host = 'localhost';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

-- UPDATE --

I was wrong. It's not safe to delete the user like that. You do need to use DROP USER. Since it is possible to have mysql options set to not create users automatically via grants (an option I use), I still wouldn't recommend that trick. Here's a snipet from a stored procedure that works for me:

DECLARE userCount INT DEFAULT 0;
SELECT COUNT(*) INTO userCount FROM mysql.user WHERE User = userName AND Host='localhost';
IF userCount > 0 THEN
    SET @S=CONCAT("DROP USER ", userName, "@localhost" );
    PREPARE stmt FROM @S;
    EXECUTE stmt;
    SELECT CONCAT("DROPPED PRE-EXISTING USER: ", userName, "@localhost" ) as info;
END IF;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

An Authentication object was not found in the SecurityContext - Spring 3.2.2

I encountered the same error while using SpringBoot 2.1.4, along with Spring Security 5 (I believe). After one day of trying everything that Google had to offer, I discovered the cause of error in my case. I had a setup of micro-services, with the Auth server being different from the Resource Server. I had the following lines in my application.yml which prevented 'auto-configuration' despite of having included dependencies spring-boot-starter-security, spring-security-oauth2 and spring-security-jwt. I had included the following in the properties (during development) which caused the error.

spring:
  autoconfigure:
    exclude: org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.security.servlet.SecurityAutoConfiguration

Commenting it out solved it for me.

#spring:
#  autoconfigure:
#    exclude: org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.security.servlet.SecurityAutoConfiguration

Hope, it helps someone.

How can I align text in columns using Console.WriteLine?

Just to add to roya's answer. In c# 6.0 you can now use string interpolation:

Console.WriteLine($"{customer[DisplayPos],10}" +
                  $"{salesFigures[DisplayPos],10}" +
                  $"{feePayable[DisplayPos],10}" +
                  $"{seventyPercentValue,10}" +
                  $"{thirtyPercentValue,10}");

This can actually be one line without all the extra dollars, I just think it makes it a bit easier to read like this.

And you could also use a static import on System.Console, allowing you to do this:

using static System.Console;

WriteLine(/* write stuff */);

Is it possible to declare a variable in Gradle usable in Java?

Here are two ways to pass value from Gradle to use in Java;

Generate Java Constants

android {
    buildTypes {
        debug {
            buildConfigField "int", "FOO", "42"
            buildConfigField "String", "FOO_STRING", "\"foo\""
            buildConfigField "boolean", "LOG", "true"
        }

        release {
            buildConfigField "int", "FOO", "52"
            buildConfigField "String", "FOO_STRING", "\"bar\""
            buildConfigField "boolean", "LOG", "false"
        }
    }
}

You can access them with BuildConfig.FOO

Generate Android resources

android {
    buildTypes {
        debug{
            resValue "string", "app_name", "My App Name Debug"
        }
        release {
            resValue "string", "app_name", "My App Name"
        }
    }
}

You can access them in the usual way with @string/app_name or R.string.app_name

Convert JSON String To C# Object

First you have to include library like:

using System.Runtime.Serialization.Json;

DataContractJsonSerializer desc = new DataContractJsonSerializer(typeof(BlogSite));
string json = "{\"Description\":\"Share knowledge\",\"Name\":\"zahid\"}";

using (var ms = new MemoryStream(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(json)))
{
    BlogSite b = (BlogSite)desc.ReadObject(ms);
    Console.WriteLine(b.Name);
    Console.WriteLine(b.Description);
}

Dynamic SQL - EXEC(@SQL) versus EXEC SP_EXECUTESQL(@SQL)

  1. Declare the variable
  2. Set it by your command and add dynamic parts like use parameter values of sp(here @IsMonday and @IsTuesday are sp params)
  3. execute the command

    declare  @sql varchar (100)
    set @sql ='select * from #td1'

    if (@IsMonday+@IsTuesday !='')
    begin
    set @sql= @sql+' where PickupDay in ('''+@IsMonday+''','''+@IsTuesday+''' )'
    end
    exec( @sql)

RecyclerView onClick

The RecyclerView does not have a OnClickListener and will have to implement it ourselves.

I like to add a OnItemClickListener interface in Adapter with an onClick method invoked when you click on the item view from the ViewHolder. Thus the responsibility of managing the click on an item is outside the ViewHolder and Adapter. Will the activity or fragment which will decide what to do

Add an interface to the listener and the listener object.

public class ItemsAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<ItemsAdapter.ViewHolder> {

  ...

  private static OnItemClickListener onItemClickListener;

  ...

  public static interface OnItemClickListener {
      public void onItemClick(View view, int position);
  }

  ...
}

We capture the click of the root view of the item and when the callback is triggered onClick listener call on the adapter .

public class ItemsAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<ItemsAdapter.ViewHolder> {

  ...

  private static OnItemClickListener onItemClickListener;

  ...

  public static interface OnItemClickListener {
      public void onItemClick(View view, int position);
  }

  ...

  public static class ViewHolder extends RecyclerView.ViewHolder {
      public ImageView imageView;

      public ViewHolder(View itemRootView) {
          super(itemRootView);
          imageView = (ImageView) itemRootView.findViewById(R.id.itemImage);

          itemRootView.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
              @Override
              public void onClick(View view) {
                  int position  = ViewHolder.super.getAdapterPosition();
                  onItemClickListener.onItemClick(view,position);
              }
          });
      }
  }
}

Since the activity or fragment , fragment in our case , we assign a listener to the adapter and the onClick callback we will get the selected item by position and opened a detailed activity of item.

public class ItemsFragment extends Fragment {
    ...
    @Override
    public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
                             Bundle savedInstanceState) {
       ...
        ((ItemsAdapter) adapter).setOnItemClickListener(new ItemsAdapter.OnItemClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemClick(View view, int position) {
                //Do something when an item has been clicked
            }
        });
        ...
    }
...
}

How to check if pytorch is using the GPU?

What's the best way to identify hidden characters in the result of a query in SQL Server (Query Analyzer)?

To find them, you can use this

;WITH cte AS
(
   SELECT 0 AS CharCode
   UNION ALL
   SELECT CharCode + 1 FROM cte WHERE CharCode <31
)
SELECT
   *
FROM
   mytable T
     cross join cte
WHERE
   EXISTS (SELECT *
        FROM mytable Tx
        WHERE Tx.PKCol = T.PKCol
             AND
              Tx.MyField LIKE '%' + CHAR(cte.CharCode) + '%'
         )

Replacing the EXISTS with a JOIN will allow you to REPLACE them, but you'll get multiple rows... I can't think of a way around that...

Android TabLayout Android Design

I had to collect information from various sources to put together a functioning TabLayout. The following is presented as a complete use case that can be modified as needed.

Make sure the module build.gradle file contains a dependency on com.android.support:design.

dependencies {
    compile 'com.android.support:design:23.1.1'
}

In my case, I am creating an About activity in the application with a TabLayout. I added the following section to AndroidMainifest.xml. Setting the parentActivityName allows the home arrow to take the user back to the main activity.

<!-- android:configChanges="orientation|screenSize" makes the activity not reload when the orientation changes. -->
<activity
    android:name=".AboutActivity"
    android:label="@string/about_app"
    android:theme="@style/MyApp.About"
    android:parentActivityName=".MainActivity"
    android:configChanges="orientation|screenSize" >

    <!-- android.support.PARENT_ACTIVITY is necessary for API <= 15. -->
    <meta-data
        android:name="android.support.PARENT_ACTIVITY"
        android:value=".MainActivity" />
</activity>

styles.xml contains the following entries. This app has a white AppBar for the main activity and a blue AppBar for the About activity. We need to set colorPrimaryDark for the About activity so that the status bar above the AppBar is blue.

<style name="MyApp" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar">
    <item name="colorAccent">@color/blue</item>
</style>

<style name="MyApp.About" />

<!-- ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar" makes the text and the icons in the AppBar white. -->
<style name="MyApp.DarkAppBar" parent="ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar" />

<style name="MyApp.AppBarOverlay" parent="ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.ActionBar" />

<style name="MyApp.PopupOverlay" parent="ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />

There is also a styles.xml (v19). It is located at src/main/res/values-v19/styles.xml. This file is only applied if the API of the device is >= 19.

<!-- android:windowTranslucentStatus requires API >= 19. It makes the system status bar transparent.
  When it is specified the root layout should include android:fitsSystemWindows="true".
  colorPrimaryDark goes behind the status bar, which is then darkened by the overlay. -->
<style name="MyApp.About">
    <item name="android:windowTranslucentStatus">true</item>
    <item name="colorPrimaryDark">@color/blue</item>
</style>

AboutActivity.java contains the following code. In my case I have a fixed number of tabs (7) so I could remove all the code dealing with dynamic tabs.

        Toolbar supportAppBar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.about_toolbar);
        setSupportActionBar(supportAppBar);

        // Display the home arrow on supportAppBar.
        final ActionBar appBar = getSupportActionBar();
        assert appBar != null;// This assert removes the incorrect warning in Android Studio on the following line that appBar might be null.
        appBar.setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);

        public Fragment getItem(int tab) {
            return AboutTabFragment.createTab(tab);
        }

}

AboutTabFragment.java is used to populate each tab. In my case, the first tab has a LinearLayout inside of a ScrollView and all the others have a WebView as the root layout.

Export DataTable to Excel with Open Xml SDK in c#

eburgos, I've modified your code slightly because when you have multiple datatables in your dataset it was just overwriting them in the spreadsheet so you were only left with one sheet in the workbook. I basically just moved the part where the workbook is created out of the loop. Here is the updated code.

private void ExportDSToExcel(DataSet ds, string destination)
{
    using (var workbook = SpreadsheetDocument.Create(destination, DocumentFormat.OpenXml.SpreadsheetDocumentType.Workbook))
    {
        var workbookPart = workbook.AddWorkbookPart();
        workbook.WorkbookPart.Workbook = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Workbook();
        workbook.WorkbookPart.Workbook.Sheets = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheets();

        uint sheetId = 1;

        foreach (DataTable table in ds.Tables)
        {
            var sheetPart = workbook.WorkbookPart.AddNewPart<WorksheetPart>();
            var sheetData = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.SheetData();
            sheetPart.Worksheet = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Worksheet(sheetData);

            DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheets sheets = workbook.WorkbookPart.Workbook.GetFirstChild<DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheets>();
            string relationshipId = workbook.WorkbookPart.GetIdOfPart(sheetPart);

            if (sheets.Elements<DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheet>().Count() > 0)
            {
                sheetId =
                    sheets.Elements<DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheet>().Select(s => s.SheetId.Value).Max() + 1;
            }

            DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheet sheet = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Sheet() { Id = relationshipId, SheetId = sheetId, Name = table.TableName };
            sheets.Append(sheet);

            DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Row headerRow = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Row();

            List<String> columns = new List<string>();
            foreach (DataColumn column in table.Columns)
            {
                columns.Add(column.ColumnName);

                DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Cell cell = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Cell();
                cell.DataType = DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.CellValues.String;
                cell.CellValue = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.CellValue(column.ColumnName);
                headerRow.AppendChild(cell);
            }

            sheetData.AppendChild(headerRow);

            foreach (DataRow dsrow in table.Rows)
            {
                DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Row newRow = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Row();
                foreach (String col in columns)
                {
                    DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Cell cell = new DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.Cell();
                    cell.DataType = DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Spreadsheet.CellValues.String;

How can I pull from remote Git repository and override the changes in my local repository?

As an addendum, if you want to reapply your changes on top of the remote, you can also try:

git pull --rebase origin master

If you then want to undo some of your changes (but perhaps not all of them) you can use:

git reset SHA_HASH

Then do some adjustment and recommit.

CSS scale down image to fit in containing div, without specifing original size

I am using this, both smaller and large images:

.product p.image {
text-align: center;
width: 220px;
height: 160px;
overflow: hidden;
}
.product p.image img{
max-width: 100%;
max-height: 100%;
}

How do I break a string in YAML over multiple lines?

To concatenate long lines without whitespace, use double quotes and escape the newlines with backslashes:

key: "Loremipsumdolorsitamet,consecteturadipiscingelit,seddoeiusmodtemp\
  orincididuntutlaboreetdoloremagnaaliqua."

(Thanks @Tobia)

Detect the Enter key in a text input field

Try this to detect the Enter key pressed in a textbox.

$(document).on("keypress", "input", function(e){
    if(e.which == 13){
        alert("Enter key pressed");
    }
});

DEMO

jQuery find() method not working in AngularJS directive

find() - Limited to lookups by tag name you can see more information https://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/function/angular.element

Also you can access by name or id or call please following example:

angular.element(document.querySelector('#txtName')).attr('class', 'error');

maximum value of int

O.K. I neither have rep to comment on previous answer (of Philippe De Muyter) nor raise it's score, hence a new example using his define for SIGNED_MAX trivially extended for unsigned types:

// We can use it to define limits based on actual compiler built-in types also:
#define INT_MAX   SIGNED_MAX(int)
// based on the above, we can extend it for unsigned types also:
#define UNSIGNED_MAX(x) (  (SIGNED_MAX(x)<<1) | 1 ) // We reuse SIGNED_MAX
#define UINT_MAX  UNSIGNED_MAX(unsigned int) // on ARM: 4294967295
// then we can have:
unsigned int width = UINT_MAX;

Unlike using this or that header, here we use the real type from the compiler.

What are the Ruby File.open modes and options?

In Ruby IO module documentation, I suppose.

Mode |  Meaning
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"r" | Read-only, starts at beginning of file (default mode).
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"r+" | Read-write, starts at beginning of file.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"w"  |  Write-only, truncates existing file
     | to zero length or creates a new file for writing.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"w+" | Read-write, truncates existing file to zero length
     | or creates a new file for reading and writing.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"a" | Write-only, starts at end of file if file exists,
     | otherwise creates a new file for writing.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"a+" | Read-write, starts at end of file if file exists,
     | otherwise creates a new file for reading and
     |  writing.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"b" | Binary file mode (may appear with
     | any of the key letters listed above).
     | Suppresses EOL <-> CRLF conversion on Windows. And
     | sets external encoding to ASCII-8BIT unless explicitly
     |  specified.
-----+--------------------------------------------------------
"t" | Text file mode (may appear with
     | any of the key letters listed above except "b").

How to set default value for form field in Symfony2?

A general solution for any case/approach, mainly by using a form without a class or when we need access to any services to set the default value:

// src/Form/Extension/DefaultFormTypeExtension.php

class DefaultFormTypeExtension extends AbstractTypeExtension
{
    public function buildForm(FormBuilderInterface $builder, array $options)
    {
        if (null !== $options['default']) {
            $builder->addEventListener(
                FormEvents::PRE_SET_DATA,
                function (FormEvent $event) use ($options) {
                    if (null === $event->getData()) {
                        $event->setData($options['default']);
                    }
                }
            );
        }
    }

    public function configureOptions(OptionsResolver $resolver)
    {
        $resolver->setDefault('default', null);
    }

    public function getExtendedType()
    {
        return FormType::class;
    }
}

and register the form extension:

app.form_type_extension:
    class: App\Form\Extension\DefaultFormTypeExtension
    tags:
        - { name: form.type_extension, extended_type: Symfony\Component\Form\Extension\Core\Type\FormType }

After that, we can use default option in any form field:

$formBuilder->add('user', null, array('default' => $this->getUser()));
$formBuilder->add('foo', null, array('default' => 'bar'));

How to expand 'select' option width after the user wants to select an option

Place it in a div and give it an id

<div id=myForm>

then create a really really simple css to go with it.

#myForm select {
width:200px; }

#myForm select:focus {
width:auto; }

That's all you need.

How to set default values in Rails?

If you are referring to ActiveRecord objects, you have (more than) two ways of doing this:

1. Use a :default parameter in the DB

E.G.

class AddSsl < ActiveRecord::Migration
  def self.up
    add_column :accounts, :ssl_enabled, :boolean, :default => true
  end

  def self.down
    remove_column :accounts, :ssl_enabled
  end
end

More info here: http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Migration.html

2. Use a callback

E.G. before_validation_on_create

More info here: http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Callbacks.html#M002147

Combining two Series into a DataFrame in pandas

If you are trying to join Series of equal length but their indexes don't match (which is a common scenario), then concatenating them will generate NAs wherever they don't match.

x = pd.Series({'a':1,'b':2,})
y = pd.Series({'d':4,'e':5})
pd.concat([x,y],axis=1)

#Output (I've added column names for clarity)
Index   x    y
a      1.0  NaN
b      2.0  NaN
d      NaN  4.0
e      NaN  5.0

Assuming that you don't care if the indexes match, the solution is to reindex both Series before concatenating them. If drop=False, which is the default, then Pandas will save the old index in a column of the new dataframe (the indexes are dropped here for simplicity).

pd.concat([x.reset_index(drop=True),y.reset_index(drop=True)],axis=1)

#Output (column names added):
Index   x   y
0       1   4
1       2   5

How to view transaction logs in SQL Server 2008

I accidentally deleted a whole bunch of data in the wrong environment and this post was one of the first ones I found.

Because I was simultaneously panicking and searching for a solution, I went for the first thing I saw - ApexSQL Logs, which was $2000 which was an acceptable cost.

However, I've since found out that Toad for Sql Server can generate undo scripts from transaction logs and it is only $655.

Lastly, found an even cheaper option SysToolsGroup Log Analyzer and it is only $300.

Importing from a relative path in Python

The default import method is already "relative", from the PYTHONPATH. The PYTHONPATH is by default, to some system libraries along with the folder of the original source file. If you run with -m to run a module, the current directory gets added to the PYTHONPATH. So if the entry point of your program is inside of Proj, then using import Common.Common should work inside both Server.py and Client.py.

Don't do a relative import. It won't work how you want it to.

How to center absolute div horizontally using CSS?

You need to set left: 0 and right: 0.

This specifies how far to offset the margin edges from the sides of the window.

Like 'top', but specifies how far a box's right margin edge is offset to the [left/right] of the [right/left] edge of the box's containing block.

Source: http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/visuren.html#position-props

Note: The element must have a width smaller than the window or else it will take up the entire width of the window.

If you could use media queries to specify a minimum margin, and then transition to auto for larger screen sizes.

Why does JS code "var a = document.querySelector('a[data-a=1]');" cause error?

Because you need parentheses around the value your looking for. So here : document.querySelector('a[data-a="1"]')

If you don't know in advance the value but is looking for it via variable you can use template literals :

Say we have divs with data-price

<div data-price="99">My okay price</div>
<div data-price="100">My too expensive price</div>

We want to find an element but with the number that someone chose (so we don't know it):

// User chose 99
let chosenNumber = 99
document.querySelector(`[data-price="${chosenNumber}"`]

PHP output showing little black diamonds with a question mark

That can be caused by unicode or other charset mismatch. Try changing charset in your browser, in of the settings the text will look OK. Then it's question of how to convert your database contents to charset you use for displaying. (Which can actually be just adding utf-8 charset statement to your output.)

AngularJS + JQuery : How to get dynamic content working in angularjs

Addition to @jwize's answer

Because angular.element(document).injector() was giving error injector is not defined So, I have created function that you can run after AJAX call or when DOM is changed using jQuery.

  function compileAngularElement( elSelector) {

        var elSelector = (typeof elSelector == 'string') ? elSelector : null ;
            // The new element to be added
        if (elSelector != null ) {
            var $div = $( elSelector );

                // The parent of the new element
                var $target = $("[ng-app]");

              angular.element($target).injector().invoke(['$compile', function ($compile) {
                        var $scope = angular.element($target).scope();
                        $compile($div)($scope);
                        // Finally, refresh the watch expressions in the new element
                        $scope.$apply();
                    }]);
            }

        }

use it by passing just new element's selector. like this

compileAngularElement( '.user' ) ;

Combine two OR-queries with AND in Mongoose

It's probably easiest to create your query object directly as:

  Test.find({
      $and: [
          { $or: [{a: 1}, {b: 1}] },
          { $or: [{c: 1}, {d: 1}] }
      ]
  }, function (err, results) {
      ...
  }

But you can also use the Query#and helper that's available in recent 3.x Mongoose releases:

  Test.find()
      .and([
          { $or: [{a: 1}, {b: 1}] },
          { $or: [{c: 1}, {d: 1}] }
      ])
      .exec(function (err, results) {
          ...
      });

how to make a jquery "$.post" request synchronous

jQuery < 1.8

May I suggest that you use $.ajax() instead of $.post() as it's much more customizable.

If you are calling $.post(), e.g., like this:

$.post( url, data, success, dataType );

You could turn it into its $.ajax() equivalent:

$.ajax({
  type: 'POST',
  url: url,
  data: data,
  success: success,
  dataType: dataType,
  async:false
});

Please note the async:false at the end of the $.ajax() parameter object.

Here you have a full detail of the $.ajax() parameters: jQuery.ajax() – jQuery API Documentation.

jQuery >=1.8 "async:false" deprecation notice

jQuery >=1.8 won't block the UI during the http request, so we have to use a workaround to stop user interaction as long as the request is processed. For example:

  • use a plugin e.g. BlockUI;
  • manually add an overlay before calling $.ajax(), and then remove it when the AJAX .done() callback is called.

Please have a look at this answer for an example.

Private pages for a private Github repo

Many answers are outdated (pre-Microsoft acquisition/free private repos). This one was written after the announcement of free private repos.

Github pages are not available on free private repos for individuals, as shown in the repo settings:

2020 (most basic plan is now "Team"):

upgrade to github team or make this reposiory public to enable Pages

NOTICE

All pages are public, even if you upgrade. Upgrading only enables the Pages feature on private repos, just like it enables other features. The Pages feature is publicly available static web hosting.

Android getResources().getDrawable() deprecated API 22

Just an example of how I fixed the problem in an array to load a listView, hope it helps.

 mItems = new ArrayList<ListViewItem>();
//    Resources resources = getResources();

//    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(resources.getDrawable(R.drawable.az_lgo), getString(R.string.st_az), getString(R.string.all_nums)));
//    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(resources.getDrawable(R.drawable.ca_lgo), getString(R.string.st_ca), getString(R.string.all_nums)));
//    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(resources.getDrawable(R.drawable.co_lgo), getString(R.string.st_co), getString(R.string.all_nums)));
    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(ResourcesCompat.getDrawable(getResources(), R.drawable.az_lgo, null), getString(R.string.st_az), getString(R.string.all_nums)));
    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(ResourcesCompat.getDrawable(getResources(), R.drawable.ca_lgo, null), getString(R.string.st_ca), getString(R.string.all_nums)));
    mItems.add(new ListViewItem(ResourcesCompat.getDrawable(getResources(), R.drawable.co_lgo, null), getString(R.string.st_co), getString(R.string.all_nums)));

how to fix java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException

for ( int i=0 ; i<=list.size() ; i++){
....}

By executing this for loop , the loop will execute with a thrown exception as IndexOutOfBoundException cause, suppose list size is 10 , so when index i will get to 10 i.e when i=10 the exception will be thrown cause index=size, i.e. i=size and as known that Java considers index starting from 0,1,2...etc the expression which Java agrees upon is index < size. So the solution for such exception is to make the statement in loop as i<list.size()

for ( int i=0 ; i<list.size() ; i++){
...}

PHP MySQL Query Where x = $variable

Global variables in header file

Don't initialize variables in headers. Put declaration in header and initialization in one of the c files.

In the header:

extern int i;

In file2.c:

int i=1;

How can I remove all files in my git repo and update/push from my local git repo?

Delete the hidden .git folder (that you can locate within your project folder) and again start the process of creating a git repository using git init command.

Remove rows with all or some NAs (missing values) in data.frame

This will return the rows that have at least ONE non-NA value.

final[rowSums(is.na(final))<length(final),]

This will return the rows that have at least TWO non-NA value.

final[rowSums(is.na(final))<(length(final)-1),]

Python WindowsError: [Error 123] The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect:

As it solved the problem, I put it as an answer.

Don't use single and double quotes, especially when you define a raw string with r in front of it.

The correct call is then

path = r"C:\Apps\CorVu\DATA\Reports\AlliD\Monthly Commission Reports\Output\pdcom1"

or

path = r'C:\Apps\CorVu\DATA\Reports\AlliD\Monthly Commission Reports\Output\pdcom1'

How can I account for period (AM/PM) using strftime?

The Python time.strftime docs say:

When used with the strptime() function, the %p directive only affects the output hour field if the %I directive is used to parse the hour.

Sure enough, changing your %H to %I makes it work.

Where is git.exe located?

If you've downloaded the latest version try looking in the CMD folder. git.exe should be in there and should work. You may have to input it's path manually with File>Settings>Version Control>Git
