For a project this size, you should stop writing pure JavaScript and turn to some of the libraries available. I'd recommend jQuery (http://jquery.com/), which allows you to select elements by css-selectors, which I recon should speed up your development quite a bit.

AFAIK, you can't create a File from an assets file because these are stored in the apk, that means there is no path to an assets folder.

But, you can try to create that File using a buffer and the AssetManager (it provides access to an application's raw asset files).

Since version 3.3 of ggplot2, we have access to the convenient after_stat() function.

We can do something similar to @Andrew's answer, but without using the .. syntax:

One comment about your NULL values: they are ignored when you create the vector (i.e. you end up with a vector of length 9, not 11). If you really want to keep track of missing data, you will have to use NA instead (ggplot2 will put NAs at the right end of the plot):

Please note that NA are not treated specially, as it can be misleading. The function will return NA only when no condition is matched. If you put a line with TRUE ~ ..., like I did in my example, the return value will then never be NA.

Therefore, you have to expressively tell case_when to put NA where it belongs by adding a statement like is.na(x$V1) | is.na(x$V3) ~ NA_integer_. Hint: the dplyr::coalesce() function can be really useful here sometimes!

Moreover, please note that NA alone will usually not work, you have to put special NA values : NA_integer_, NA_character_ or NA_real_.

At least try to adhere to the rule of Least Surprise. Users expect to be able to determine the z-order of most applications themselves. You don't know what is most important to them, so if you change anything, you should focus on pushing the other application behind everything rather than promoting your own.

This is of course trickier, since Windows doesn't have a particularly sophisticated window manager. Two approaches suggest themselves:

  1. enumerating top-level windows and checking which process they belong to, dropping their z-order if so. (I'm not sure if there are framework methods for these WinAPI functions.)
  2. Fiddling with child process permissions to prevent it from accessing the desktop... but I wouldn't try this until the othe approach failed, as the child process might end up in a zombie state while requiring user interaction.

I had this problem: My Web API 2 project on .NET 4.7.2 was working as expected, then I changed the project properties to use a Specific Page path under the Web tab. When I ran it every time since, it was giving me a 404 error - it didn't even hit the controller.

Solution: I found the .vs hidden folder in my parent directory of my VS solution file (sometimes the same directory), and deleted it. When I opened my VS solution once more, cleaned it, and rebuilt it with the Rebuild option, it ran again. There was a problem with the cached files created by Visual Studio. When these were deleted, and the solution was rebuilt, the files were recreated.

Also it's worth noting that <img> element (like the other inline elements) sits on its baseline by default. And there would be a 4~5px gap at the bottom of the image.

That vertical gap belongs to the reserved space of descenders like: g j p q y. You could fix the alignment issue by adding vertical-align property to the image with a value other than baseline.

Additionally for a better user experience, you could add transition to the images.

Thus we'll end up with the following:

Didn't Java once have a Pair class?

If you want a pair (not supposedly key-value pair) just to hold two generic data together neither of the solutions above really handy since first (or so called Key) cannot be changed (neither in Apache Commons Lang's Pair nor in AbstractMap.SimpleEntry). They have thier own reasons, but still you may need to be able to change both of the components. Here is a Pair class in which both elements can be set

I have just tried to install that extension on my dev server.

First, make sure that the extension is correctly enabled. Your phpinfo() output doesn't seem complete.

If you do not get that section in your phpinfo(). Make sure that you are using the right version. There are both non-thread-safe and thread-safe versions of the extension.

Finally, check your extension_dir setting. By default it's this: extension_dir = "ext", for most of the time it works fine, but if it doesn't try: extension_dir = "C:\PHP\ext".

You are using the wrong function. mssql_connect() is part of the Mssql extension. You are using microsoft's extension, so use sqlsrv_connect(), for the API for the microsoft driver, look at SQLSRV_Help.chm which should be extracted to your ext directory when you extracted the extension.

This is what worked best for me:

Getting the 'right' path wasn't the problem, adding '../' obviously does that, but after that, the given string isn't usable, because it will just add the '../' at the end. Surrounding it with Path.GetFullPath() will give you the absolute path, making it usable.

Datetime is a datatype.

Timestamp is a method for row versioning. In fact, in sql server 2008 this column type was renamed (i.e. timestamp is deprecated) to rowversion. HTML favicon won't show on google chrome

I've found that (at Chrome 56, OSX) the favicon state appears to be cached for the browser lifetime, so if a favicon isn't being loaded, it won't be until after restarting Chrome. Function prototype declarations and global variable should be in test.h file and you can not initialize global variable in header file.

Just declarations of global variables in Header file no initialization should work.

Form inside a table

A form is not allowed to be a child element of a table, tbody or tr. Attempting to put one there will tend to cause the browser to move the form to it appears after the table (while leaving its contents — table rows, table cells, inputs, etc — behind).

You can have an entire table inside a form. You can have a form inside a table cell. You cannot have part of a table inside a form.

In Germany, we have 5 digit zipcodes. However, those Codes may start with a Zero, so 80337 is a valid zipcode for munic, 01067 is a zipcode of Berlin.

As you see, any German citizen expects the zipcodes to be displayed as a 5 digit code, so 1067 looks strange.

In order to store those data, you could use a VARCHAR(5) or INT(5) ZEROFILL whereas the zerofilled integer has two big advantages:

  2. If you insert 1067, you still get 01067 back

  2. using org.springframework.beans.factory.config.MethodInvokingFactoryBean to invoke a static setter.

In the first option you have a bean with a regular setter but instead setting an instance property you set the static property/field.

Is your server single-threaded? If so, what polling / multiplexing function are you using?

Using select() does not work beyond the hard-coded maximum file descriptor limit set at compile-time, which is hopeless (normally 256, or a few more).

poll() is better but you will end up with the scalability problem with a large number of FDs repopulating the set each time around the loop.

epoll() should work well up to some other limit which you hit.

10k connections should be easy enough to achieve. Use a recent(ish) 2.6 kernel.

How many client machines did you use? Are you sure you didn't hit a client-side limit?

Catch an exception thrown by an async void method

This blog explains your problem neatly Async Best Practices.

The gist of it being you shouldn't use void as return for an async method, unless it's an async event handler, this is bad practice because it doesn't allow exceptions to be caught ;-).

Best practice would be to change the return type to Task. Also, try to code async all the way trough, make every async method call and be called from async methods. Except for a Main method in a console, which can't be async (before C# 7.1).

You will run into deadlocks with GUI and ASP.NET applications if you ignore this best practice. The deadlock occurs because these applications runs on a context that allows only one thread and won't relinquish it to the async thread. This means the GUI waits synchronously for a return, while the async method waits for the context: deadlock.

This behaviour won't happen in a console application, because it runs on context with a thread pool. The async method will return on another thread which will be scheduled. This is why a test console app will work, but the same calls will deadlock in other applications...

1st Reason could be the ending tag of your application's web.xml file which could not have been closed properly.

web.xml might be ending with <web-app>, but must end with </web-app>

Cassandra cqlsh - connection refused

The first and foremost step to diagnose is to check the Cassandra logs.

Find out the process and there will be hints in the command line parameters to tell you where the logs files are.

ps aux | grep cassandra

In my case, it was in default location /etc/cassandra/conf/cassandra.yaml (if you installed the yum package).

Make sure three things are configured and configured the same host/ip.

  1. listen_address - you may leave it blank it will default to hostname/first IP binding with eth0 network card
  2. rpc_address - this is optional, leave blank if you want it to be same as listen_address
  3. seeds - this is a double quoted string of comma-separated list of IP addresses or hostnames. This was default to a hardcoded "127.0.0.1", changing it to the same as list_address and restart of Cassandra service made it work for me.

How can I measure the actual memory usage of an application or process?

With ps or similar tools you will only get the amount of memory pages allocated by that process. This number is correct, but:

  • does not reflect the actual amount of memory used by the application, only the amount of memory reserved for it

  • can be misleading if pages are shared, for example by several threads or by using dynamically linked libraries

If you really want to know what amount of memory your application actually uses, you need to run it within a profiler. For example, Valgrind can give you insights about the amount of memory used, and, more importantly, about possible memory leaks in your program. The heap profiler tool of Valgrind is called 'massif':

Massif is a heap profiler. It performs detailed heap profiling by taking regular snapshots of a program's heap. It produces a graph showing heap usage over time, including information about which parts of the program are responsible for the most memory allocations. The graph is supplemented by a text or HTML file that includes more information for determining where the most memory is being allocated. Massif runs programs about 20x slower than normal.

As explained in the Valgrind documentation, you need to run the program through Valgrind:

valgrind --tool=massif <executable> <arguments>

Massif writes a dump of memory usage snapshots (e.g. massif.out.12345). These provide, (1) a timeline of memory usage, (2) for each snapshot, a record of where in your program memory was allocated. A great graphical tool for analyzing these files is massif-visualizer. But I found ms_print, a simple text-based tool shipped with Valgrind, to be of great help already.

To find memory leaks, use the (default) memcheck tool of valgrind.

Querying data by joining two tables in two database on different servers

You'll need to use sp_addlinkedserver to create a server link. See the reference documentation for usage. Once the server link is established, you'll construct the query as normal, just prefixing the database name with the other server. I.E:

How it works

The -n switch tells sed to not output each line of the file it reads (default behaviour).

The last p after the regular expressions tells it to print lines that match the preceding expression.

The expression '/pattern1/,/pattern2/' will print everything that is between first pattern and second pattern. In this case it will print every line it finds between the string Feb 23 13:55 and the string Feb 23 14:00.

It similar to the ternary operator, but will behave like isset on the lefthand operand instead of just using its boolean value.

If the audio wrapped into the avi is not mp3-format to start with, you may need to specify -acodec mp3 as an additional parameter. Or whatever your mp3 codec is (on Linux systems its probably -acodec libmp3lame). You may also get the same effect, platform-agnostic, by instead specifying -f mp3 to "force" the format to mp3, although not all versions of ffmpeg still support that switch. Your Mileage May Vary.

When to throw an exception?

I agree with japollock way up there--throw an acception when you are uncertain about the outcome of an operation. Calls to APIs, accessing filesystems, database calls, etc. Anytime you are moving past the "boundaries" of your programming languages.

Small improvement to the code from ryyst (who got the most votes) is to not use dynamically allocated decoding table but rather static const precomputed table. This eliminates the use of pointer and initialization of the table, and also avoids memory leakage if one forgets to clean up the decoding table with base64_cleanup() (by the way, in base64_cleanup(), after calling free(decoding_table), one should have decoding_table=NULL, otherwise accidentally calling base64_decode after base64_cleanup() will crash or cause undetermined behavior). Another solution could be to use std::unique_ptr...but I'm satisfied with just having const char[256] on the stack and avoid using pointers alltogether - the code looks cleaner and shorter this way.

are 4 comparators, ie. 4 ways to compare 2 objects, in Ruby.
As, in Ruby, all comparators (and most operators) are actually method-calls, you can change, overwrite, and define the semantics of these comparing methods yourself. However, it is important to understand, when Ruby's internal language constructs use which comparator:

== (value comparison)
Ruby uses :== everywhere to compare the values of 2 objects, eg. Hash-values:

While @Andre is correct that there are issues with pseudo elements and their support, especially in older (IE) browsers, that support is improving all the time.

As for your question of, are there any issues, I'd say I've not really seen any, although the syntax for the pseudo-element can be a bit tricky, especially when first sussing it out. So:

The recurring theme to proposed solutions is that the error is a configuration error. The error can be solved in various different manners (e.g. reconfiguration of the users environment or removal of java executables with fingers-crossed and hope that there exists another fallback java.exe in the users %PATH% and that the fallback java.exe is the correct executable).

The correct solution depends on what you're trying to achieve: "are you trying to downgrade from jdk-8 to jdk-7? Are trying to upgrade to jdk-8? ..."

Reproduction steps

  1. install jdk-7u80-windows-x64.exe

notes:

  • the java.exe executable available in the users %PATH% is installed in C:\Windows\System32

OP's solution https://stackoverflow.com/a/29769311/1423507 is a "fingers-crossed and hope that there exists a fallback java.exe in the users %PATH% and that the fallback executable is correct" approach to the error. Given the reproduction steps, removing the java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe executables from C:\Windows\System32 (only in my case) will result in no longer having any java.exe present in the users %PATH% resulting in the error 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. which is not so much of a solution.

  2. answers https://stackoverflow.com/a/35775493/1423507 and https://stackoverflow.com/a/36516620/1423507 work however you're reverting to using java.exe 1.7 (e.g. update the CurrentVersion registry key's value to match the java.exe version found in the users %PATH%).

  3. make surejava.exe 1.8 is the first found in the users %PATH% (how you do that is irrelevant) i.e.:

    • update the users %PATH% to include C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath first (ensure that the executables in that directory are correct)

It's a great question, but be warned that you're treading in dangerous waters here. When you're deleting code you will have to make sure you're compiling and testing often.

It takes a little while to grok, and after the first 10 minutes I think most developers just say "Screw it!" and delete the app. Once you get a good feel for NDepend, it gives you amazing insight to how your apps are coupled. Check it out: http://www.ndepend.com/. Most importantly, this tool will allow you to view methods which do not have any direct callers. It will also show you the inverse, a complete call tree for any method in the assembly (or even between assemblies).

Whatever tool you choose, it's not a task to take lightly. Especially if you're dealing with public methods on library type assemblies, as you may never know when an app is referencing them.

What are the rules for casting pointers in C?

Casting pointers is usually invalid in C. There are several reasons:

  1. Alignment. It's possible that, due to alignment considerations, the destination pointer type is not able to represent the value of the source pointer type. For example, if int * were inherently 4-byte aligned, casting char * to int * would lose the lower bits.

  2. Aliasing. In general it's forbidden to access an object except via an lvalue of the correct type for the object. There are some exceptions, but unless you understand them very well you don't want to do it. Note that aliasing is only a problem if you actually dereference the pointer (apply the * or -> operators to it, or pass it to a function that will dereference it).

The main notable cases where casting pointers is okay are:

  1. When the destination pointer type points to character type. Pointers to character types are guaranteed to be able to represent any pointer to any type, and successfully round-trip it back to the original type if desired. Pointer to void (void *) is exactly the same as a pointer to a character type except that you're not allowed to dereference it or do arithmetic on it, and it automatically converts to and from other pointer types without needing a cast, so pointers to void are usually preferable over pointers to character types for this purpose.

  2. When the destination pointer type is a pointer to structure type whose members exactly match the initial members of the originally-pointed-to structure type. This is useful for various object-oriented programming techniques in C.

Some other obscure cases are technically okay in terms of the language requirements, but problematic and best avoided.

It has been mentioned in earlier answers that using dependency walker is the way to go, in my case (my application keeps failing with the error code), dependency walker showed a few dll that are NOT relevant!

Finally figured out that I can run profiling by going to "profile" menu and it will run the application and stop at the exact dll that's cause the problem! I found out a 32bit dll was picked because of path and fixed it.

For me the problem was invalid permissions - I was requesting "birthday" instead of "user_birthday". It's a shame the error message isn't at least minimally descriptive - just saying "permissions invalid" rather than ERROR CODE 2 would have saved me so much time.

If you want to serve static files in node.js, you need to use a function. Add the following code to your js file:

app.use(express.static("public"));

Where app is:

const express = require("express");
const app = express();

Then create a folder called public in you project folder. (You could call it something else, this is just good practice but remember to change it from the function as well.)

Then in this file create another folder named css (and/or images file under css if you want to serve static images as well.) then add your css files to this folder.

After you add them change the stylesheet accordingly. For example if it was:

href="cssFileName.css"

and

src="imgName.png"

Make them:

href="css/cssFileName.css"
src="css/images/imgName.png"

  • Delete the view and add an UITableViewCell
